RECALL N140574, CASE #[XXX] ON 2/7/19, MY SON'S CAR GOT STUCK 2 BLOCKS FROM HOME ON A RESIDENTIAL STREET. THE GRAND PRIX WAS DRIVEN THERE TO SEE IF HE COULD BE PUSHED OUT, AND GOT STUCK - ALONG WITH 4 OTHER CARS. WE TRIED TO PUSH THE CAR OUT, BUT IT WOULDN'T MOVE. WE LEFT THE CAR RUNNING WHILE TRYING TO PUSH THE OTHER VEHICLES. WHILE WALKING FROM THE CAR, WE HEARD POPPING SOUNDS, AND SAW A FLAMES UNDER THE HOOD - PASSENGER'S SIDE. MY FRIEND REACHED IN AND SHUT IT OFF. I CALLED THE POLICE. FIRE TRUCKS PUT OUT THE FIRE, AND A TOW TRUCK WAS CALLED TO GET THE CAR OFF THE SNOW ROUTE AND TAKEN TO AN ACCIDENT IMPOUND. THE NEXT DAY, I CALLED GM AND WAS ASSIGNED A CASE. A WEEK LATER, I WAS ASSIGNED A PAC UNIT REP, TO INVESTIGATE MY CASE. I HAVE MANY EMAILS AND PICTURES FOLLOWING MY CASE. GM HAS PROVIDED A LOT OF MISINFORMATION, LACK OF COMMUNICATION, AND NO PROBLEM RESOLVE. THERE WERE ISSUES INVOLVING THE TITLE, BUT I RESOLVED. I HAD TO TAKE THE PICTURES FOR THE INVESTIGATION, EVEN THOUGH I WAS TOLD REPS WOULD BE SENT OVER. I WENT TO A LOCAL DEALERSHIP, WHERE THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT TRIED TO CONTACT THE PAC UNIT. THEY ALSO DID NOT RESPOND TO HIM. AFTER MANY VISITS TO GATEWAY DEALERSHIP AND ASSISTANCE GETTING MY INFORMATION TO SOMEBODY WITH GENERAL MOTORS, IT WAS DETERMINED THE RECALL CAUSED THE FIRE. OIL DRIPPED ON THE MANIFOLD. MY CAR STILL SITS IN THE IMPOUND AT $30 A DAY. I HAVE LEFT NUMEROUS MESSAGES AND EMAILS ASKING FOR UPDATES AND RESOLVE. THE LAST I WAS TOLD IS THAT GM WOULD REPURCHASE MY CAR, AND SEND THE PAPERWORK TO SIGN. THAT WAS 2 WEEKS AGO! THE LOCAL SERVICE REP HAD TO STOP HELPING ME DUE TO A JOB CHANGE, SO I AM LEFT NOT KNOWING WHAT IS HAPPENING. THE PAC AND GM CUSTOMER SERVICE ARE NOT RETURNING CALLS OR RESPONDING. I HAD BARELY HIT A CURB PULLING INTO THE BANK PARKING WHEN MY BRAKE PAD WOULDN'T STOP. AT LESS THAN 7MPH. MY AIR BAGS HAD DEPLOYED LEAVING ME JARRED, AND IN A SHOCK I COULD NOT MOVE. I SAT LOCKED IN TO MY SAFETYBELT UNTIL THE CONSTRUCTION WORKER DOWN ROADPULLED ME OUT TO SAFETY. SUCH A MILS HIT. BLEW MY AIRBAGS.. IN RETURN, DAMAGED MY WINDSHIELD, DASH, AND, STEERING COLUMN. I WAS TURNING INTO A BANK PARKING LOT. CONSIDERED A PRIVATE LOT.

I RAN TO MY WINDOW & SAW FLAMES & BLACK SMOKE ROLLING OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD OF MY CAR. IT HAD EXPLODED & CAUGHT ON FIRE IN LESS THAN 1 MIN AFTER I GOT OUT, SHUT IT OFF, PULLED THE KEYS & WALKED IN MY HOME. FIRE DEPARTMENT & POLICE RESPONDED. I HAVE PICTURES, & FILED A FIRE & POLICE REPORT.

THE CAR RECENTLY HAD AN ENGINE FIRE ABOUT 15 MINUTES AFTER TURNING IT OFF. THE ENTIRE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY TOTALED. IT WAS STATIONARY AND IN A PARKING LOT WHEN THE ISSUE OCCURRED, AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT RUNNING.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER, WHO WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE, BUT DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. ON THANKSGIVING DAY 2014 MY CAR COUGH ON FIRE 10 MINUTES AFTER MY DAUGHTER AND I GOT OUT OF THE CAR. I WALKED INTO A FAMILY MEMBERS HOUSE AND HEARD WHAT SOUNDED LIKE A SHOTGUN GO OFF WITHIN ABOUT 5 TO 10 SECONDS LATER ANOTHER. I WENT OUTSIDE TO SEE WHAT WAS GOING ON TO FIND MY CAR ENGULFED IN FLAMES. WE IMMEDIATELY CALLED 911. THE CAR WAS PARKED NEAR A BUILDING STRUCTURE WITH 4 OR MORE VEHICLES PARKED INSIDE. I QUICKLY TRIED TO REMOVE MY IMPORTANT PROPERTY, POCKETBOOK, AND GRABBED A WATER HOSE TO TRY TO KEEP THE FLAMES AWAY FROM THE STRUCTURE AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. THE ENTIRE FRONT COMPARTMENT, MOTOR MOUNT AND ENGINE MELTED, WAS BURNED TO THE GROUND. THE INSIDE DASH AND FLOORBOARD WAS MELTED WITH LARGE HOLES BURNED IN THEM, AND BOTH FRONT TIRED EXPLODED AND ENTIRELY MELTED AS WELL. I HAD JUST LEFT MY HOUSE WHERE THE CAR COULD HAVE EASILY BEEN PARKED IN MY GARAGE AND SET THE ENTIRE HOUSE ON FIRE. I HAVE TRIED TO STAY IN CONTACT WITH GM FOR ALMOST A YEAR. THEY REFUSED TO RETURN MY PHONE CALLS AFTER THE INITIAL TWO, TELLING ME IT WOULD TAKE A FEW WEEKS, FOR 6 MONTHS. THEY NOW REFUSE TO HELP ME IN ANY WAY. I WILL NEVER PARK A CAR IN AN ATTACHED GARAGE TO MY HOUSE EVER AGAIN IN FEAR OF MY FAMILY'S SAFETY. I RESEARCHED THIS CAR FOR RECALLS TO FIND THAT THERE WERE THOUSANDS OF RECALLS FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM UP UNTIL 2003 MODELS, ALSO TO FIND THAT THIS ISSUE HAD CONTINUED IN THE 2004 MODELS WITH NO RECALLS AND FEAR THE SAFETY OF OTHERS WITH THESE CARS. GM NEEDS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR MISHAPS AND TAKE SAFETY SERIOUSLY.

WITHIN 10 MINUTES OF ARRIVING TO MY PLACE OF WORK, THE PONTIAC CAUGHT FIRE AND THE FIRE COMPLETELY BURNED THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT RESULTING IN A TOTAL LOSS. 10 DAYS AFTER THE FIRE, I RECEIVED GM SAFETY RECALL 14574 INDICATING THE POSSIBILITY OF AN ENGINE COMPARTMENT FIRE. WHEN CONTACTING GM, I AM TOLD THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO FOR ME SINCE THE CAR IS NO LONGER IN MY POSSESSION. THIS IS EXTREMELY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE AND SUPPORT FOR A PROBLEM THEY ARE AWARE OF.

MAILING CHRISTMAS PACKAGES AND STOPPED TO FILL UP WITH GAS. WENT INSIDE TO USE RESTROOM, CAME BACK OUT AND AS I APPROACHED THE CAR, I SMELLED AN UNUSUAL ODOR. GOT IN, STARTED IT, NOTICED SMOKE COMING UP ON OUTSIDE OF WINDOW ON PASSENGER SIDE. SINCE I WAS PARKED NEXT TO THE GAS PUMPS, I ELECTED TO PUT IT IN DRIVE AND PULL FORWARD AWAY FROM PEOPLE AND GAS PUMPS, YELLED AT EMPLOYEES TO CALL FIRE DEPT. AS BY THIS TIME THE SMOKE WAS COMING THROUGH THE VENTS INTO THE INSIDE OF THE CAR. BY THE TIME THE FIREMEN ARRIVED, THE FRONT OF THE CAR WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES (I TOOK 3 PICTURES TO SHOW PROGRESSION OF THE FIRE) THAT WAS SO HOT THAT PARTS WERE MELTING ONTO THE ASPHALT. THE FIREMEN HAD TO USE A CROWBAR TO OPEN THE HOOD TO GET TO THE FIRE. I THINK THAT THE CAR SHOULD HAVE BEEN INCLUDED IN THE RECALL OF THE 2003 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX AS THE FIRE HAPPENED EXACTLY AS OTHERS DESCRIBE - NO PROBLEMS RUNNING, NO INDICATION OF TROUBLE BY WAY OF WARNING LIGHTS. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE RACK AND PINION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. IN ADDITION, DURING RAINY WEATHER, WATER FLOODED THE VEHICLE. THIS WAS ACTUALLY 2ND TIME CAR VEERED OFF FOR NO REASON. FIRST TIME CAR HIT A CURB AND BLEW A TIRE. NO EXPLANATION AS TO WHY THIS HAPPENED, THEN CAR WAS DROVE UNTIL THE SERIOUS HEAD ON CRASH, NOW THAT RECALLS ARE BEING MADE PUBLIC ABOUT IGNITION ISSUES, WE FEEL LIKE THIS CAUSED BOTH WRECKS. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE HEATING AND COOLING SYSTEMS WERE NOT WORKING PROPERLY. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS MAKING A WOBBLING NOISE, AND THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP WHEN THE BRAKE WAS ENGAGED. THE DEALER WAS NOT AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
I HAVE A 2004 GRAND PRIX GTP BOUGHT ABOUT 5 YEARS AGO TAKE A YEAR I BOUGHT IT HAD TO REPLACE HUB ASSEMBLY ON DRIVE SIDE CAR HAS LEAKED WATER IN THE PASSENGER SIDE FLOOR THAT IS CAUSE MY COWL IS BAD CANT FIND ONE THE ABOUT A YEAR TOO LATER HAD TO REPLACE THE HUB ASSEMBLY AND THE HARNESS AGAIN AND NOW MY BREAK IS PULSATING AND NOW ASKED SOMEONE WHY ITS DOING THAT THEY SAID ITS PROBABLY MY HUB ASSEMBLY THEY SHOULD NOT SEE THESES CARS EVERYONE I HAVE TALKED TO HAS HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS OUT OF THIS YEAR MODEL I DON'T HAVE THE TO FIX THIS STUFF WOULD LIKE TO HAVE IT FIXED FOR FREE. *TR

THE CLICKING WAS HEARD WHENEVER THE CONTACT WAS MAKING A LEFT OR RIGHT TURN. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO NOTICED THE FRAME WAS CRACKED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT ABOUT A NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 04V299000 (STRUCTURE:FRAME AND MEMBERS). THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER REGARDING THE RECALL AND THE MANUFACTURER STATED DUE TO THE VIN THE VEHICLE WAS NOT A PART OF THE RECALL. THE CONTACT STATED THE CLICKING NOISE HAD BECOME LOUDER AND MORE CONSISTENT. THE CONTACT MADE AN APPOINTMENT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE THE DEALER. THE FAILURE WAS 130,000.

THIS LEAVE A BLACKISH/GRAYISH SQUARE ON THE WINDSHIELD WHERE CREATES A DRIVING NUISANCE- WHERE THE HUD SHOULD BE. THIS PART FAILURE IS MENTIONED NUMEROUS TIMES ON THE INTERNET, THUS LEAVING THE OWNERS WITH A $600-700 REPAIR IN WHICH THERE ISN'T A NEW PART BUT INSTEAD A REBUILT ONE PUT IN. *TR

AFTER A RAIN, BOTH THE FRONT AND REAR PASSENGER SIDE FLOORS ARE SOAKED WITH WATER. THE RAISED PORTION UNDER THE SEAT REMAINS DRY. THE CEILING AREA AROUND THE MOON ROOF IS COMPLETELY DRY. THE CARPETING LEADING DOWN TO THE FLOOR (CONSOLE COVERING, AREA BELOW THE DOORS, AREA UNDER THE DASH) ARE ALL DRY. ONLY THE LOWEST PORTION OF THE FLOOR IS WET, AND IT IS COMPLETELY SOAKED. IT LEADS ME TO BELIEVE THE WATER ENTERS FROM EITHER AT THE BASE OF THE WINDSHIELD WHERE THE PLASTIC COWL IS SEPARATED FROM THE GLASS, OR IN THE ROOF-BODY SEAM ON TOP OF THE ROOF WHERE THE FORWARD EDGE OF THE ROOF MEETS THE TOP OF THE DOOR JAM. I HAVE NOT TAKEN IT INTO THE DEALER YET, BUT PLAN TO. IN THE MEANTIME, I SHOP-VAC'D THE WATER OUT AS BEST I COULD AND KEEP IT IN THE GARAGE. I'M CONCERNED BECAUSE THERE ARE ELECTRICAL CABLES UNDER THE FRONT CARPET AND THEY ARE WET. *TR

THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE ENTIRE FRAME NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE OIL PAN COULD BARELY BE REMOVED TO PERFORM A STANDARD OIL CHANGE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE LESS THAN 68,000.

IT IS SIMILAR TO A SHIFT IN THE FRAME OR SUSPENSION. HE ALSO STATED THAT IT SOUNDS AS IF THERE ARE LOOSE BOLTS. THE DEALER FOUND THAT THE BOLTS THAT HOLD THE ENGINE TO THE FRAME NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. HIS VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 04V299000 (STRUCTURE:FRAME AND MEMBERS), ALTHOUGH THE FAILURES WERE IDENTICAL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 72,000.

SAME AS ANOTHER PERSON THAT REPORTED THIS RECENTLY. I HAVE A POOL OF WATER IN BOTH THE FRONT AND REAR PASSENGER AREAS AFTER HEAVY RAINS. I'M TAKING THE VEHICLE INTO THE BODY SHOP TOMORROW, BUT IT ALSO APPEARS TO BE THE PLASTIC PIECE COMING AWAY FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE WINDSHIELD, AND AS THE PREVIOUS PERSON THAT REPORTED THIS ALSO STATED, THE GUY AT OUR BODY SHOP SAID HE'S SEEN THIS WITH GRAND PRIX'S ALSO. *JB
HUGE POOL OF WATER ON THE PASSENGER SIDE FLOOR, IN BOTH THE FRONT AND BACK. THE SHOP-VAC CANNOT GET IT ALL UP. CAUSE LOOKS TO BE BLACK HARD PLASTIC MOLDING AT THE BASE OF THE WINDSHIELD HAS LIFTED AWAY FROM THE WINDSHIELD. HEAVY RAINS IN THE LAST FEW DAYS HAS LEAD TO THIS DISCOVERY. LOCAL GM DEALER HAS SAID THEY HAVE SEEN THIS BEFORE. HAVE ADVISED ME NOT TO DRIVE THE CAR UNTIL THEY CAN SEE IT - THAT'S IN TWO DAYS. *TR

AS OF TODAY, I HAVE HAD THIS VEHICLE IN SERVICE EIGHT TIMES FOR STEERING-RELATED DEFECTS, BEGINNING TWO WEEKS FROM THE DATE OF NEW PURCHASE IN JANUARY, 2004. THREE DIFFERENT DEALERS HAVE ALL TOLD ME "IT'S A DESIGN DEFECT...THERE WILL BE A FIX SOON". REPLACED RACK AND PINION TWICE, MIDDLE STEERING SHAFT TWICE, AND RACK/PINION AND ENGINE CRADLE BOLTS SPONTANEOUSLY WORK LOOSE EVERY 3,000-5,000 MILES. NOW VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY. MOST RECENT VISIT TO CENTURY PONTIAC IN TAMPA, THEY ATTEMPTED TO CHARGE ME $75.00 IN ORDER TO APPLY YET ANOTHER TSB REGARDING LOOSE STEERING, STEERING WHEEL BIND, ETC. I HAD TO CALL PONTIAC AND COMPLAIN BITTERLY, THEY THEN WAIVED THE FEE...BUT DID NOT PAY FOR THE RENTAL CAR. THUS FAR, POWER STEERING PUMP HAS FAILED AND BEEN REPLACED, A/C COMPRESSOR HAS FAILED AND BEEN REPLACED, MIDDLE STEERING SHAFT REPLACED TWICE, ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN REPLACED TWICE, AND THERE IS STILL A PERSISTENT "JOLT" THROUGH THE STEERING WHEEL WHENEVER PUTTING CAR INTO GEAR, OR TURNING STEERING WHEEL TO RIGHT, GOING OVER A GUTTER, ETC. ALSO, LOUD "CLUNK" RESULTING IN SEVERE SHUDDER IN FRONT OF VEHICLE. DEALER(S) STATE THERE IS NO FIX. HAVE NEARLY LOST CONTROL OF VEHICLE THREE TIMES DUE TO STEERING SUDDENLY LOOSENING, OR BINDING, WANDERING OFF-CENTER, ETC. DEALER SAYS THERE'S NOTHING MORE THEY CAN DO. 2004 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX - WATER LEAKAGE IN THE FRONT PASSENGER FLOORBOARD VIA THE AIR/HEAT FAN BELT AREA. SOAKING ENTIRE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE FLOORBOARD. I HAVE CONTACTED TWO DIFFERENT LOCAL PONTIAC DEALERSHIPS WHO INFORMED ME THAT THEY HAVE BOTH SEEN SEVERAL 04 GRAND PRIX MODELS COME INTO THEIR DEALERSHIPS WITH THIS PROBLEM. THEY SAID THAT IT WAS POSSIBLY ONE OF TWO THINGS. A PROBLEM WITH THE DEFLECTOR FOR THE FRESH AIR VENT BY THE COWEL OR IT COULD BE THE WATER HOSE LEADING FROM THE SUN ROOF THAT COULD BE CLOGGED. THE FACT THAT WATER IS LEAKING INTO THE INTERIOR OF THE CAR IN THE ARE WHERE THE WATER IS COLLECTING COULD CAUSE A SERIOUS ELECTRICAL SHORT, AS THE AREA THAT THE WATER IS COMING THROUGH THE ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS OF THE VEHICLE. I VIEW THIS IS AS A DEFAULT IN THE DESIGN OF THE VEHICLE AND WOULD LIKE SOMEONE TO LOOK INTO THIS MATTER. I AM AFRAID THAT LEFT UNATTENDED TO THAT THIS COULD CAUSE A FIRE. BOTH DEALERSHIPS HAVE INDICTED THAT BECAUSE MY VEHICLE IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY THAT THIS MATTER WOULD TAKE SEVERAL HOURS TO CORRECT AND ESTIMATED A COST OF APPROXIMATELY $230.00 TO CORRECT THIS MATTER. *NM

AFTER GOING THROUGH AUTOMATIC CAR WASH, NOTICED THAT THE CARPETING ON PASSENGER'S SIDE, BOTH FRONT AND BACK (JUST DEEP CARPETED AREAS, NOT UNDER SEATS) WERE COMPLETELY SATURATED WITH WATER. WATER WAS CLEANED OUT, AND CARPET DRIED. WHEN WE ADVISED DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPT, THEY ADVISED THAT WE SHOULDN'T TAKE THE CAR THROUGH CAR WASH WITH UNDERBODY WASH. OUR CONCERN REGARDLESS OF THIS, IS THAT THIS QUICK TRIP THROUGH THE CAR WASH, CREATED THAT MUCH MOISTURE, MEANING THERE IS A SERIOUS BREACH OF THE BODY INTEGRITY UNDER THE CAR.*JB

DT: THE CONTACT STATED THERE WERE MULTIPLE PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE. EACH OF THESE PROBLEMS WERE INCLUDED IN THE RECALLS 04V287000, 03V331000, 04V299000 AND 05V046000. HOWEVER, THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALLS DUE TO VIN. THE BRAKE PADS HAVE BEEN REPLACED TWICE.

A FEW MONTHS AFTER PURCHASING MY 2004 GRAND PRIX THE BACK PASSANGER DOOR STARTED MAKING A CLICKING SOUND WHEN OPENED AND CLOSED. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS INFORMED THAT THERE IS A PLASTIC PIECE ON THE HINGE THAT WAS BROKEN AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. IT IS NOW A YEAR LATER AND THE SAME DOOR IS MAKING THE SAME CLICKING NOISE. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER, WHO ADVISED ME THAT THE HINGES JUST NEEDED CLEANED (? NEVER HEARD OF THAT BEFORE). I'VE HAD THE CAR BACK FOR A WEEK AND IT'S MAKING THE NOISE AGAIN. GUESS WHO'S WARRANTY JUST EXPIRED?*AK

VEHICLE HAD A DESIGN FLAW IN THE INSTRUMENT PANEL CLEAR PLASTIC COVER. *BF IN DAYLIGHT THERE IS A BRIGHT SEMI CIRCULAR REFLECTION IN EACH CORNER. THE SUN GLARES DIRECTLY OFF THE PLASTIC INTO THE DRIVER'S EYES CAUSING A SUDDEN DISTRACTION.
WE JUST PURCHASED 2004 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX GT 2 HAS A HORRIBLE SEMI-CIRCULAR MIRROR LIKE REFLECTION FROM EACH LOWER CORNER OF THE INSTRUMENT PANEL RIGHT INTO OUR EYES MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO HANDLE THE VEHICLE. IT OCCURS FROM 11AM TO 2 PM FROM THE OVERHEAD SUN. *JB

WHEN I GO OVER BUMPS IN THE ROAD OR TURN THE WHEEL THE VEH MAKES A CLUNKING/KNOCKING SOUND IN THE FLOOR AND SOMETIMES WHEN I TURN THE WHEEL (PARKED OR MOVING) THERE IS A SIMILAR, CLANKING SOUND NEAR THE WHEELS. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEH TO THE DEALERSHIP TO BE CHECK SEVERAL TIMES. THE FIRST FEW TIMES THEY TORE IT DOWN AND TIGHTENED THINGS. THE LAST TIME THEY SAID THEY CONTACTED PONTIAC AND WAS INFORMED THIS WAS HAPPENING ON SEVERAL VEHS AND DO NOT HAVE A FIX.*AK
