I WAS ALERTED TO THIS WHEN I DROVE MY CAR TO A REPAIR GARAGE FOR A SMOG INSPECTION ON 5/4/21. THE AUTO MANUFACTURER HAS NOT MADE ANY EFFORT TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM WITH THE FAULTY AIRBAGS.

I RECENTLY TOOK MY VIBE IN FOR AN AIR BAG RECALL. THEY REPLACED THE PASSAGER SIDE AIR BAG MODULE BUT DID NOTHING WITH THE DRIVERS SIDE. I'VE HAD AN AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT ON FOR SEVERAL MONTHS AND I THOUGHT THIS WOULD ALSO BE FIXED. THEY INFORMED ME IT WASN'T PART OF THE RECALL. WHAT I DON'T UNDERSTAND IF THE PASSAGER SIDE AIR BAGS ARE FAULTY CAN CAN CAUSE BODILY HARM OR EVEN DEATH WHY WOULD THE DRIVERSIDE AIR BAG BE ANY DIFFERENT. I FEEL IT SHOULD HAVE ALSO BEEN REPLACED. PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHY IT WASN'T OR AT LEAST THE WARNING LIGHT FIXED.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT A SECOND AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE SPEEDOMETER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN RAN A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND TOLD THE CONTACT THAT THE SECOND LIGHT WAS THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE AIR BAG LIGHT AND STATED THAT IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. THE TECHNICIAN MADE NO MENTION WHY THE PASSENGER'S SIDE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 160,000.

I HAD A RECALL ON THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG OF MY CAR A FEW YEARS AGO. I HAD IT REPLACED WITH THE SAME, BUT NEWER PART. I THEN RECEIVED ANOTHER NOTIFICATION AND CALLED IN TO GET IT FIXED, BUT NO PARTS WERE AVAILABLE. I RECEIVED TWO OR THREE MORE NOTICES AND CALLED FOR THE FIX, BUT THE PART WAS STILL NOT AVAILABLE. TODAY, ABOUT A YEAR OR SO LATER, I RECEIVED ANOTHER NOTICE, MADE ANOTHER CALL, AND THEY WERE FINALLY ABLE TO ORDER A REPLACEMENT PART. HOWEVER, THEY STILL DON'T KNOW HOW LONG IT WILL TAKE TO COME IN.

THERE HAS BEEN A KNOWN AIRBAG RECALL ON MY 2005 SINCE 08/29/19. TEN MONTHS IS FAR TOO LONG FOR THIS TO GO UNADDRESSED BY GM WHEN IT AFFECTS A MAJOR AIRBAG ON A VEHICLE IMPACTING THE SAFETY OF PASSENGERS. I HAVE GONE MOST OF A YEAR WITHOUT BEING ABLE TO HAVE PASSENGERS IN THE FRONT SEAT OF MY CAR BECAUSE OF THIS RECALL. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THE FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG HAS BEEN RECALLED ON MY CAR THE LAST RECALL WAS IN 2016 AND I HAD THE AIRBAG REPLACED THEN. THIS IS IN REFERENCE TO A RECALL DATED DEC 12,2018 THE MANUFACTURER HAS FAILED TO REMEDY THIS RECALL IN A TIMELY MANNER AND SINCE I CANNOT DRIVE WITH A PASSENGER IN THE FRONT SEAT UNTIL IT IS REMEDIED I AM REPORTING THIS TO NHTSA AS RECOMMENDED ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE. AFTER THE GM DEALERSHIP WORKED ON IT AND REPLACED THE DRIVER AIRBAG ON THE VEHICLE, THE RED AIRBAG LIGHT ON THE TACHOMETER STARTED GLOWING AND HAS GLOWED SINCE. I TOOK IT IN FOR THE 2ND RECALL RECENTLY AND HAS THE PASSENGER AIRBAG REPLACED. THE DEALERSHIP GAVE ME A CODE OF B1811 WHICH MEANS THE AIRBAG WILL NOT GO OFF IN CASE OF AN ACCIDENT.. GM AND THE DEALERSHIP REFUSED TO FIX THE ISSUE. THIS LIGHT WAS TRIGGERED AFTER THE RECALL WAS PERFORMED AT THE DEALERSHIP. WHY WOULDN'T THIS BE COVERED AND FIXED IF DURING THE RECALL? INSTEAD GM AND THEIR DEALERSHIP SAY THAT IT ISN'T UNDER WARRANTY AND THEIR WOULD BE A DIAGNOSTIC CHARGE OF $99 PLUS A COST TO FIX THE ISSUE. SEEMS LIKE A SAFETY ISSUE AND IT WAS CAUSED BY THE RECALL WORK.

I RECEIVED A NOTICE ABOUT THE AIRBAG RECALL IN JULY, AND THE RECOMMENDATION IS "THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT SHOULD NOT BE OCCUPIED". I'VE CALLED EVERYONE, GM, THE LOCAL DEALER, THE VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE, ETC. AND THE ANSWER IS THAT THE PART IS UNAVAILABLE AND IT WILL TAKE 1-3 YEARS TO GET IT. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE, MY CAR IS UNSAFE AND I HAVE NO ALTERNATIVE. I CALLED A SHOP TO SEE IF THEY COULD DISABLE THE AIRBAG FOR ME AND THEY TOLD ME THAT WAS ILLEGAL. WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO? CONTACTING THE GM RECALL LINE, MY CASE NUMBER 71-1508506555 WAS ASSIGNED TO A SENIOR ADVISOR NAMED RUEBEN (866-790-5600 X 58210-88) RUEBEN GAVE ME NO ADDITIONAL INFORMATION AND DID NOT CALL ME BACK AS PROMISED. 8-28 I CALLED THE DEALER AND THEY HAVE 15 INFLATORS IN STOCK. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE THE RECALL PERFORMED. HOWEVER, AT THE DEALERSHIP, MY VIN BROUGHT UP THE DISPOSITION ORDER: "INCOMPLETE. I AM VERY DISTURBED TO BE TOLD THAT, UNTIL THE NECESSARY REPLACEMENT PART IS AVAILABLE, AND WITH ONLY THE ASSURANCE THAT GM (AND PRESUMABLY TOYOTA) IS "WORKING AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE TO CORRECT THIS CONDITION," I SHOULD NOT OPERATE THE CAR WITH THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT OCCUPIED. I FIND IT DISTURBING AND ODD THAT THE PROSCRIPTION ONLY APPLIES TO THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT, EVEN THOUGH THE WARNING INCLUDES THE STATEMENT THAT MALFUNCTION OF THE FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG COULD RESULT IN "METAL FRAGMENTS STRIKING THE VEHICLE OCCUPANTS [INCLUDING, PRESUMABLY, ME] POTENTIALLY RESULTING IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH," I AM ALSO TROUBLED THAT NO ADVICE OR ACCOMMODATION IS MADE FOR THOSE FOR WHOM NOT USING THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT IS NOT AN OPTION, NOR IS THERE PROVISION BY GM/TOYOTA/TAKATA TO PROVIDE A REPLACEMENT CAR UNTIL SUCH TIME AS THE REPLACEMENT PART IS AVAILABLE, OR AT LEAST SOME SORT OF REMUNERATION FOR WHAT IT WILL COST THOSE AFFECTED TO RENT A CAR WHEN THEY MUST USE A FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. AND THERE'S THE SMALL MATTER THAT THE METAL FRAGMENTS COULD STRIKE MORE THAN JUST THE FRONT PASSENGER. THEREFORE, I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT NHTSA IS DOING TO ENSURE THAT PROPER COMPENSATION IS PROVIDED FOR THIS.

I TAKE MY CAR BACK TO MIKE MORGAN BUICK GMC. THEY INFORM ME THE WARNING LIGHT STEMS FROM THE STEERING WHEEL AIRBAG AND THEY ONLY "REPAIRED" OR "TAMPERED" WITH THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG. I WILL HAVE TO PAY $922 TO HAVE IT REPAIRED. I DON'T KNOW IF THEM TAMPERING WITH MY AIRBAGS CAUSED THE LIGHT TO COME ON OR NOT. STOPPED AT RED LIGHT WITH A DODGE RAM 1500 IN FRONT OF ME. I WAS REAR ENDED BY A CAR (TOYOTA RAV 4) GOING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH. I DID TURN MY STEERING WHEEL TO TRY AND GET INTO THE TURN LANE TO AVOID THE COLLISION BUT DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH TIME. THE CAR REAR ENDED ME AND THEN MY CAR WAS PUSHED INTO THE TRUCK IN FRONT OF ME. I WAS WEARING MY SEAT BELT BUT STILL MY FACE WAS INJURED AND MY LEFT LEG HIT THE STEERING COLUMN. I DO REMEMBER FEELING A POINT DURING THE COLLISION THAT I FLEW IN THE AIR - HAVING THE FEELING THAT I WAS FLYING. MY SEAT BELT CAUGHT AND I WAS PUSHED BACK INTO THE SEAT. MY SEAT WAS NOT TOO CLOSE TO THE STEERING WHEEL WHILE I WAS DRIVING. MY AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY AT ALL EVEN THOUGH I WAS REAR ENDED AND THEN PUSHED INTO THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. MY GIRL'S VEHICLE STOPPED ON IT'S OWN SEVERAL TIMES WITH NO WARNING, BUT LATER WOULD RESTART. THE ENGINE JUST KEPT STOPPING SHE WOULD SAY IN VARIOUS TURNS, BUT WITH JIGGLING THE KEY IT WOULD START BACK UP.THE LAST TIME WHILE TURNING LEFT AT A LIGHT THE VEHICLE DIED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE TURN AGAIN. WE TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC AND WAS INFORMED THE ENGINE MUST BE LOCKED AND WE NEED TO SCRAP THE CAR BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT GET IT TO FIRE UP. I BELIEVE IT WAS THE IGNITION SWITCH THAT SOMETIMES MADE CONTACT. I JUST GOT A 4TH NOTICE THAT THE 4TH SET OF AIRBAGS ARE DEFECTIVE. THE CAR IS CRUSHED NOW, BUT IT SEEMS PRETTY LOGICAL THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS FAULTY. I BOUGHT HER A NEW CAR BECAUSE IT KEPT DYING IN TURNS.
