During unrelated work, a mechanic discovered the retaining ring for recall N08 (rear axle pinion nut) was not installed and the pinion nut was loose enough to turn by hand. He stated the recall had either been performed incorrectly or not at all, and that the vehicle was unsafe to drive. The recall shows “completed” in 2013, but the defect is still present. I contacted Stellantis Customer Care, submitted photos, and they confirmed in writing that if the defect still exists, the recall must be performed free of charge regardless of age, mileage, or ownership. I sent the photos of the missing ring, screenshots showing the recall marked completed, and Stellantis’ confirmation to the dealership before having the vehicle towed to verify coverage. The truck was towed to Time Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Portland. My initial contact was [XXX] at that location. However, all recall decisions and communication later came from [XXX] , who works at a different dealership. Over the next month, the dealership repeatedly stalled the recall, saying they were waiting on approval from the district manager and then from the recall department, but no action was ever taken. Despite having Stellantis’ written confirmation and clear photographic evidence of the unresolved defect, the dealership refused to perform the recall. They insisted on treating it as a “warranty” issue and cited reasons such as mileage, age, and not being the original owner—none of which apply to safety recalls. They then stated that teardown and diagnosis “would run $1000,” even though the defect has already been documented by both the mechanic and Stellantis. All communication, including photos, the mechanic’s findings, Stellantis’ confirmation of coverage, and the dealership’s refusal, is available upon request. 2010 Dodge Ram 1500 truck purchased used late May 2025 with 57000 miles. Late August 2025 with 60000 miles rear axle fell off when driving on Freeway at 60 miles per hour. Very serious accident was narrowly avoided as could not steer vehicle.Truck was serviced at dealership for recall of a pinion nut coming loose at 36107 miles in September 2013. Per this recall, the loose pinion nut can cause the axle to fail. The recall maintenance done in September 2013 at 36107 miles only lasted 24000 miles and serious safety issues reoccurred. In my opinion, on my vehicle the recall did not fix the problem. Now I am stuck with a $5000 repair on a vehicle with known recalls and safety issues that was supposedly fixed.Perhaps a second recall should be considered regarding this issue.

Me and my husband were driving down the road to go see a friend and all of a sudden the wheel hub assembly broke in half causing us to have to slam on our brakes and keep from crashing. The wheel almost ended up under our truck making the truck look like it was kachowing like Lightening McQueen from the movie Cars

I was driving to work on [XXX] when my rear end locked up and I slid sideways down [XXX]. I was going slower than normal due to slippery road conditions. The mechanic told me it was the pinion nut that froze up and locked up the gears and snapped the drive shaft. If it had been clear roads the truck probably would have flipped over. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed and determined that the rear axle differential pin retaining bolt had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but was not yet diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The contact owns a 2010 Dodge Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle was jerking as the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where the contact was informed that the oxygen sensors and transmission fluid needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired, however, the contact attempted to replace the oxygen sensors himself. The failure reoccurred and the vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired and the proper oxygen sensors were replaced; however, the contact stated that when he drove over 45 MPH, all warning lights would illuminate on the instrument panel and that an abnormal noise was heard coming from the rear of the vehicle. The vehicle was then taken back to the independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. Additionally, during the repair the contact was informed that the rear differential had loose bolts and would also need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure however the VIN was not available at the time of the call therefore a case could not be opened. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 240,000.

Charging system failure at pcm causing low voltage and battery will not charge causing the vehicle to become disabled. I was on the interstate battery light came Om with system Low voltage code for engine light. The truck shut off and I was left without power steering or brakes. doing 75mph. Voltage regulator is in pcm and pcm needs replaced. Vehicle is still out of commission

The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the rear axle pinion holding the rear drive shaft loosened. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, and the dealer declined to honor the recall repairs due to the age of the vehicle and possible liability issues. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was repaired under recall, but was not correctly fixed. Now the rear differential is totally shot with no warning. My dealer says it will not be covered under recall warranty since I was not the owner at the time of the recall repair.

EXTENSIVE DAMAGE DONE TO TRUCK, $13K OR SO IN PARTS ALONE OR MORE THAN TRUCK VALUE. HAD MY TRUCK SINCE JUNE 2020, JUST NOW INFORMING ME THEY WILL NOT COVER ANY DAMAGES CAUSED BY THE SAFETY RECALL ISSUE (ONLY THE RECALL REPAIRS WHICH IS MINIMAL). DO I HAVE ANY RECOURSE WITH CHRYSLER? ON 8/31/20, WE WERE DRIVING AND HEARD A LOUD SOUND, OUR VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE, FISHTAIL AND THE REAR END LOCKED UP CAUSING US TO COME TO A STOP SIDEWAYS ACROSS 2 LANES OF TRAFFIC JUST MISSING HITTING A PEDISTRIAN. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A MECHANIC WHOM AFTER INSPECTION STATED THERE WAS NO SECUREMENT DEVICE IN PLACE WHICH RESULTED IN THE PINION NUT COMING OUT CAUSING OUR DRIVESHAFT TO FALL OUT AND THE REAR END LOCK UP.

WHEN I WAS COASTING I COULD TELL SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH THE REAR END OF MY VEHICLE. THE TRANSMISSION SHOP I BROUGHT IT TO CONFIRMED THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL BEARINGS HAVE GONE BAD. AT ONLY 115,000 THOUSANDS MILES I THOUGHT THIS WAS A MANUFACTURER ISSUE AND A SAFETY ISSUE. ANYWHERE FROM 10PMH OR FASTER THE GRINDING NOISE CAN BE HEARD.

WHEN I STARTED THE TRUCK MONDAY MORNING AND PUT IT IN DRIVE, IT WENT STRAIGHT INTO FOURTH GEAR. I THOUGHT I HAD ACCIDENTALLY PUT IT IN MANUAL MODE, SO I TURNED IT OFF AND RESTARTED IT. IN THE DRIVE POSITION IT WOULD ONLY OPERATE IN FOURTH GEAR. AFTER A LITTLE RESEARCH I DISCOVERED ITS CALLED LIMP MODE AND IT SEEMS LIKE THE CULPRIT IS THE TRANSMISSION SHIFT SOLENOID, SOMETIMES CALLED THE RANGE SENSOR, PART NUMBER 68353383AB. I HAD TAKEN IT TO A TRANSMISSION SHOP AND THEY TOLD ME THAT?S WHAT THE CULPRIT WAS, BUT IF I WAS GOING TO REPLACE IT I MIGHT AS WELL REBUILD THE TRANSMISSION...$2800. NOT BEING ABLE TO AFFORD THIS, (NOR DID I THINK IT WAS NEEDED), I CALLED ADVANCED AUTO WHO ORDERED A SOLENOID PACK FOR ME, BUT IT WAS THE WRONG ONE, (4800171AA). THAT?S WHEN I CALLED CHRYSLER JEEP DODGE OFF 295 IN JACKSONVILLE FLORIDA. [XXX] GIVE ME THE CORRECT PART NUMBER, LET ME KNOW THAT IT WAS A SPECIAL ORDER, AND THAT THEY WERE ONLY ALLOWED TO ORDER FIVE A WEEK AND IT WOULD TAKE 5 TO 7 DAYS TO COME IN. I SAID THAT SEEMED ODD AND ASKED IF THERE WAS AN ISSUE. HE SAID LET ME LOOK, AND THAT?S WHEN HE TOLD ME THAT THEY WERE FIXING 640 OF THESE A WEEK NATIONWIDE, BUT THERE WAS NO RECALL. HOW IS THAT SO? I WAS LUCKY IN THAT MY ISSUE HAPPENED IN/ON MY OWN DRIVEWAY/STREET WHERE I COULD BACK UP AND FIGURE OUT A PLAN. BUT I HAVE READ WHERE THIS IS HAPPENING TO PEOPLE AS THEY ARE OUT AND ABOUT WITH NO WARNING. DANGEROUS OR NOT, OVER 33,000 REPAIRS IN A YEARS TIME SEEMS TO BE AT RECALL LEVEL. THE PART FROM DODGE IS $460 PLUS ABOUT 7 GALLONS OF TRANSMISSION FLUID AND A TRANSMISSION KIT, SO OVER $500 AND A HOT MESS IF YOU?RE WILLING TO TACKLE IT YOURSELF. ADD 2-4 HOURS SHOP LABOR AT $60-$100/HR PLUS SHOP SUPPLIES AND MOST OF YOUR DAY OR MULTIPLE DAYS (EITHER WAY) IF YOU'RE NOT WILLING OR ABLE TO MAKE THE REPAIR. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO COAST THE VEHICLE ONTO A SAFE AREA AND DISCOVERED THAT THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL SEPARATED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE TO A MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WERE METAL SHAVINGS FOUND IN THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE COMPUTER HEAD UNIT THAT CONTROLLED THE HEATING, RADIO, AND DEFROSTER FAILED. AS A RESULT, THE DEFROSTER DID NOT OPERATE AND THE HEAT ONLY BLEW ONTO THE FLOORBOARD. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN UNKNOWN CHRYSLER DEALER FOR THE COMPUTER HEAD UNIT. THE DEALER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND ADVISED THAT THE COMPUTER HEAD UNIT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THAT THERE WAS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN FOR THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL FAILURE AND A RECALL WAS NOT ISSUED FOR THE FAILURE. A PINION NUT IN THE DRIVETRAIN FAILED DURING NORMAL USE WHILE DRIVING DOWN A HIGHWAY AT 65 MPH, THE MAIN DRIVESHAFT SEPARATED FROM THE TRUCK AND SHEARED HALF OF THE TRANSFER CASE OFF. THE DRIVESHAFT ALSO DESTROYED THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL AND DAMAGED A LARGE ARE OF THE UNDER CARRIAGE. THIS BUT WAS UNDER RECALL AND AN ACCREDITED DEALERSHIP MADE THE INITIAL REPAIR BY REPLACING THE TRANSFER CASE AND DRIVESHAFT. THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL WAS REPAIRED. AFTER THE REPAIRS WERE MADE THE TRUCKS DRIVETRAIN WOULD NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY AND WOULD TRY TO SHIFT ITSELF INTO 4WD INTERMITTENTLY WITHOUT THE TRANSFER CASE SELECTOR BEING MOVED. THE DEALERSHIP WAS UNABLE TO TROUBLESHOOT THE PROBLEM FOR A NUMBER OF WEEKS BUT FINALLY DISCOVERED THE TRANSFER CASE MOTOR WAS BROKEN AND THAT THE INITIAL REPAIR SHOULD HAVE INCLUDED THIS PART AS IT WAS OBVIOUSLY DAMAGED IN THE INCIDENT BUT COULD NOT MAKE THE REPAIR BECAUSE IT WASN'T LISTED ON THE INITIAL REPAIR. FCA REFUSED TO REPLACE THE PART AND WOULD NOT ACCEPT AN APPEAL TO HAVE THE CASE REVIEWED TO INCLUDE THE NEW INFORMATION AS THE AREA MANAGER RESPONSIBLE FOR OUR CLAIM CLOSED IT WITHOUT ALLOWING THE NEW TROUBLESHOOTING RESULTS TO BE CONSIDERED.

DRIVING ABOUT 35 MPH AND A WHIRRING STARTED IN THE REAR END. ONLY HAPPENED WHEN I WAS COASTING, NOT WHEN GAS WAS APPLIED OR BRAKES. AFTER ABOUT 15 MINUTES OF DRIVING AND SEVERAL STOPS THE DRIVE SHAFT FELL OFF. I WAS COASTING DOWN HILL ON A TWO LANE ROAD AS THE NOISE GOT VERY LOUD. FIRST THERE WAS A CLUNK AND OBVIOUSLY SOMETHING WAS DRAGGING UNDERNEATH, WHICH I THOUGHT WAS THE MUFFLER. THERE WAS NO WHERE TO STOP ON THE ROAD SO CONTINUED TO COAST. LESS THAN 5 SECONDS LATER ANOTHER CLUNK AND THEN IT WAS QUIET, PIECE HAD FALLEN OFF. I WAS ABLE TO PULL TO SIDE OF ROAD BUT VEHICLE WAS INOPERABLE. ESTIMATE FROM DEALERSHIP IS TO REPLACE DRIVE SHAFT AND WHOLE REAR END ASSEMBLY, $6200. ONLY EXPLANATION GIVEN WAS THAT A U-JOINT BROKE AND FELL OFF. DRIVE SHAFT FALLING OUT DAMAGED WHOLE REAR END ASSEMBLY.

MY LIGHTS ON THE PASSENGER MIRROR BLINK ALL THE TIME WHILE RUNNING AND OR OPENING THE DOOR. HUBS/CV AXLES HAVE HAD TO REPLACE BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE 3 TIMES EACH NOW. THIS VEHICLE IN NOT USED AND ABUSED. I TAKE CARE OF IT WITH REGULAR MAINTENANCE. I HAVE HEARD FROM OTHERS WHO OWN SAME YEAR MODEL AND HAVE SEEN ONLINE ON FORUMS OTHERS HAVE HAD THESE ISSUES ALSO. IF THE NUT LOOSENS, THE AXLE CAN LOCK UP WITH LITTLE WARNING, RESULTING IN A LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL AND/OR A CRASH". I WAS TOLD BY CHRYSLER RECALL GROUP THAT MY VEHICLE IS NOT ELIGIBLE FOR THE BUYBACK PROGRAM, EVEN THOUGH MY VEHICLE IS THE SAME MODEL YEAR WITH THE SAME RECALLED ISSUE (12V-474) LOOSE PINION NUT AS THOSE ELIGIBLE. IN ADDITION, THERE IS NOW ANOTHER DRIVE TRAIN RECALL FOR WHICH I CANNOT RECEIVE REPAIR DUE TO LACK OF PARTS.

IT HAS SEEMED AS IF THE DIFFERENTIAL LOCKED UP AND JUST SNAPPED AT THE U JOINT. THE VEHICLE APPARENTLY HAD A RECALL FOR THAT PROBLEM AND WAS REPORTED THAT IT WAS TAKEN CARE OF IN NOVEMBER OF 2014. IT SUMMED UP TO A $2700 DAMAGE. WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE USED AND ONLY PUT 1003 MILES ON IT WHEN THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED. THIS VEHICLE WAS CONVERTED INTO A EMERGENCY RESPONSE VEHICLE FOR OUR COMPANY AND WE WERE FORTUNATE ENOUGH THIS DID NOT HAPPEN IN A 911 RESPONSE SETTINGS. SHORTLY AFTER THE SAME NOISE TOOK PLACE. THIS TIME IT IS THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL IS LOCKING UP. HOWEVER, THE DODGE SERVICE CENTER IS SAYING IT IS UNRELATED AND IT IS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. THE BACK-END IS SEIZING - SO THERE IS MORE THAN ONE CRITICAL MECHANICAL ERROR IN THIS VEHICLE. CHRYSLER NEEDS TO BE HELD RESPONSIBLE. THIS TIME I WANT MY VEHICLE ELIGIBLE FOR A BUY-BACK. WHILE DRIVING ON A COUNTRY ROAD, I NOTICED SLIGHT DIFFICULTY IN SHIFTING. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. UPON HAVING THE CODE READ, THE TRANSMISSION SELENOID IS STUCK OPEN. AAFTER RECALL NHTSA 13V-038 HAD BEEN "REPAIRED" IN 2014, THE EXACT DESCRIPTION OF WHAT HAPPENS TO THE VEHICLE HAPPENED 2 YEARS LATER. "THE REAR AXLE PINION NUT ON YOUR VEHICLE MAY LOOSEN DUE TO UNDERSIZED PINION SHAFT SPLINES. A LOOSE PINION NUT COULD CAUSE THE REAR AXLE TO SEIZE OR CAUSE THE DRIVESHAFT TO SEPARATE RESULTING IN A LOSS OF MOTIVE POWER. EITHER SITUATION COULD CAUSE A CRASH WITHOUT WARNING." THE REAR AXLE SEIZED AND THE DRIVESHAFT SEPARATED RESULTING IN A LOSS OF MOTIVE POWER. THE ENTIRE DRIVESHAFT ACTUALLY COMPLETELY FELL OFF OF THE VEHICLE WHILE GETTING ONTO THE FREEWAY. THIS "REPAIR" OBVIOUSLY DID NOT RESOLVE THIS ISSUE.

THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, ON ANOTHER OCCASION WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL WHINING SOUND COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE CARRIER BEARING CAPS FRACTURED, THE LOWER BOLTS SNAPPED FLUSHED WITH THE HOUSING, THE UPPER BOLTS WERE LOOSE, THE RING GEARS WERE WORN; HOWEVER, THE PINION NUT WAS STILL IN PLACE. HUMMING NOISE AND A DIFFERENT SOUND TO BE DETERMINED BY GARAGE TOMORROW 3/9/16 WHEN SLOWING DOWN TO AROUND 5 MPH.

2010 DODGE RAM 1500 HEMI TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEED WHEN INSTANTLY THE GAUGE CLUSTER STARTED ACTING ERRATIC. FIRST THE TIRE PRESSURE DISPLAY SAID THAT DIFFERENT TIRES WERE SHOWING A MULTITUDE OF DIFFERENT PRESSURES THE GAS GAUGE STARTED FLICKERING BETWEEN FULL AND EMPTY AS WELL AS THE STOP WORKING OF THE SPEEDOMETER AND TACHOMETER AIR-CONDITIONED, POWER STEERING AND CONTINUAL WINDSHIELD WIPER ON EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE OFF AT THE SWITCH. RADIO INTERMITTENTLY ON AND OFF AND ABS AND AIRBAG LIGHT ON AND OFF INTERMITTENTLY. ALL FOUR WINDOWS FAIL TO OPERATE AND INTERIOR LIGHTING WILL NOT COME ON. GAUGE FUNCTION FLUCTUATES EVERY COUPLE SECOND.

FRUSTRATED WITH CHRYSLERS RECALL. THEY ARE EITHER DRAGGING THEIR FEET THROUGH THE PROCESS OR THEY ARE INCOMPETENT. AFTER NUMEROUS TIMES OF CONTACTING THEM TO REPAIR REAR AXLE PINION AND THEM NOT HAVING THE PART, I DECIDE TO HAVE THEM BUY BACK MY VEHICLE. EACH TIME I HAVE CALLED THEY GIVE ME DIFFERENT INFORMATION. EACH TIME IT ADDS TWO WEEKS TO THE POINT I CAN TURN THE TRUCK IN FOR A CHECK. IN THE MEANWHILE I AM LEFT TO DRIVE A TRUCK THAT CAN ENDANGER MY 3 YEAR OLD AND NEW BORN. WHEN I CALLED FOR THE THIRD TIME TODAY THEY SAID I HAD TO ACCEPT THE OFFER THEY MADE ME FOR MY VEHICLE. THEN THEY WOULD SEND A LETTER TO ME TO SIGN AND THEN THEY WOULD ASSIGN AN INSPECTOR TO LOOK AT TRUCK. I ASKED WHY WAS THIS NOT TOLD TO ME LAST WEEK WHEN I CALLED. THEY REPLIED WE DIDN'T KNOW THE VALUE OF YOUR TRUCK. I SAID YES YOU DID I PRINTED IT OFF YOUR WEBSITE AND FAX IT TO YOU ON OCTOBER 13, 2015 PER YOUR REQUIREMENTS. THE WHOLE PROCESS HAS BEEN VERY POORLY HANDLED.

SEPT 2013 WHILE DRIVING HOME IN MY 2010 DODGE RAM 1500 TRUCK FROM GLACIER NATIONAL PARK MY TRANSMISSION KICKED OUT OF TOW MODE AND LOCKED INTO 4TH GEAR. MY ENGINE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. I WAS TOWING AN ULTRALITE TRAILER (5K LB) AT THE TIME. THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED AT AN APPROX. 16000 ODOMETER READING. THE OWNER?S MANUAL SAID IT WAS OK TO DRIVE THE TRUCK IN THIS CONDITION AND THE 4TH GEAR ALLOWS YOU TO LIMP HOME. THE DEALER SAID A SOLENOID MALFUNCTIONED AND THEY REPLACED IT. FEB 20, 2015 AT APPROX. 22,800 ODOMETER READING THIS INCIDENT HAPPENED AGAIN. THIS REPAIR LASTED ONLY 6800 MILES AFTER THE REPAIR WAS FIRST MADE. I WAS DRIVING UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS THE TRANSMISSION KICKED OUT AND LOCKED INTO 4TH GEAR AND AGAIN I LIMPED THE TRUCK BACK TO THE DEALER FOR A REPAIR ON THE SAME SOLENOID PROBLEM. SEPT 20TH, 2015, WHILE DRIVING TO LASSAN NAT PARK, THE TRANSMISSION AGAIN KICKED OUT OF TOW MODE AND LOCKED INTO 4TH GEAR. THIS OCCURRED AT 28K MILES OR 6K MILES AFTER THE SECOND REPAIR. I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT TOMORROW TO SEE WHAT THE FIX WILL BE. HOWEVER, THE SYMPTOMS WERE THE SAME: TRUCK SHUDDERED, ENGINE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON, AND TRUCK GOT LOCKED INTO 4TH GEAR. I SEE MANY COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET PERTAINING TO THIS TRANSMISSION ISSUE BUT HAS A SERIOUS REPORT BEEN RECEIVED BY YOUR OFFICE? THERE IS DEFINITELY SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE TRUCK?S TRANSMISSION AND IT DOESN?T APPEAR TO BE JUST MY TRUCK. TO RECAP, MY 2010 DODGE RAM TRANSMISSION SOLENOID FAILED ON 3 OCCASIONS LOCKING THE TRANSMISSION INTO 4TH GEAR. MY TRUCK THOUGH A 2010 MODEL YEAR, HAS ONLY 28000 MILES OF USE. SOLINOID FAILED AT 16000, 22800, AND 28000 MILES. THIS COULD CAUSE A SERIOUS PROBLEM ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE HEADED UP A MOUNTAIN PULLING A TRAILER.

I THEN HEARD LIGHT GRINDING COMING FROM MY FRONT LEFT SIDE OF TRUCK. BEFORE I COULD MAKE IT HOME WITCH WAS ABOUT 10 MILES, THE GRINDING AND LOSS OF STEERING HAD GOT SO BAD THAT I WAS DRIVING 5-10 MILES AN HOUR. BARELY MADE IT HOME. THE NEXT MORNING I DROVE IT TO THE BEST SERVICE SHOP IN TOWN WHICH WAS 1/2 MILE FROM WHERE I LIVED AND IT TOOK THEM A MONTH AND $1700.00 LATER TO REPAIR. FRONT AXLE,FRONT BEARING,CALIPERS, A NEW DISC AND BRAKES,A FRONT NUCKLE AND DRIVE SPINDLE FOR THE 4 WHEEL DRIVE.

DRIVING HOME TODAY IN MY 2010 DODGE RAM 1500, HEARD A HUM WHEN I LET OFF ON THE GAS. AS I MADE A RIGHT TURN TO GET OFF THE ROAD, I HEARD A BUNCH OF RATTLING AND THE TRUCK STOPPED. WHEN I GOT OUT OF THE TRUCK MY DRIVE SHAFT WAS LAYING IN THE LANE NEXT TO ME. I LOOKED UNDER THE TRUCK AND FOUND THE TRANSFER CASE SNAPPED AND LAYING ON THE GROUND UNDER THE TRUCK. A COUPLE OF BYSTANDARD OFFERED TO HELP PUSH THE TRUCK OFF THE ROAD BUT WHEN IT WAS IN NUTRAL IT WOULDN'T MOVE. WHEN THE TOW TRUCK PUT IT UP ON THE FLAT BED THE REAR AXCEL WAS LOCKED UP AND THE TIRES WOULD NOT ROTATE.

MY TRUCK STARTED MAKING SOUND FROM THE REAR AXLE WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON AND OFF THE HIGHWAY. I SLOWED DOWN TO SEE IF IT HAD ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE TRANSMISSION THEN I COULD SENSE THAT THE DRIVE TRAIN WAS SOMEHOW LAGGING WHILE ACCELERATING AND DECELERATING. I DROVE AT ABOUT 40-60 MPH ALL DAY AND DECIDED TO DROP IT OFF AT A DODGE DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE. NEXT DAY, I RECEIVED A CALL FROM THE SERVICE PERSON EXPLAINING THAT MY TRUCK'S DRIVE SHAFT FELL DOWN AS SOON AS HE TOOK IT OUT TO A TEST DRIVE ON INTERSTATE 10. HE TOLD ME THAT THE TRUCK HAD TO BE TOWED BACK TO THE GARAGE WITH THE DRIVE SHAFT GETTING DRAGGED ON THE GROUND. THE DEALERSHIP MANAGER AND I BOTH HAD TO MAKE A NUMEROUS PHONE CALL TO CHRYSLER ABOUT THIS INCIDENT AND THE CHRYSLER REPRESENTATIVE AGREED THAT IT WAS DUE TO A RECALL THAT I HAD NOT HAVE. CHRYSLER REP., AFTER 3 HOURS OF TALKING ON THE PHONE AND WAITING, AGREED TO COMPENSATE FOR THE REPAIR AND THE DEALERSHIP PUT THE DRIVE SHAFT, WHICH HAD BEEN DRAGGED ON THE GROUND FOR 1/4 MILE, BACK TO MY TRUCK WITHOUT REPLACING IT. EVER SINCE THEN, IT HAS BEEN MAKING A VERY ANNOYING "WHINING" SOUND FROM THE REAR AXLE AT LOW SPEED(10-40MPH) UNTIL TODAY. I THOUGHT IT WAS MY MISTAKE TO BUY A CHRYSLER PRODUCT THAT HAD SO MANY RECALLS AND PROBLEMS UNTIL I SAW A NEWSPAPER ARTICLE TALKING ABOUT CHRYSLER'S RECALL INCIDENT. TODAY, I REALIZED THAT THIS INCIDENT I HAD WAS NOT EVEN THE PART OF DODGE RAM'S RECALL. I COULD HAVE GOTTEN INTO A SEVERE ACCIDENT IN THE MIDDLE OF BUSY I10 IN HOUSTON IF I HAD TO DRIVE ANOTHER MILE ON THE DAY BEFORE I DROPPED IT OFF AT THE DEALERSHIP.

WE HAVE HAD THIS TRUCK BACK JUST AFTER WE PURCHASED IT NEW AND THEY PUT A NEW TORQUE CONVERTER IN AND THAT DIDN'T FIX THE VIBRATION. WE HAVE HAD IT BACK SEVERAL TIMES AFTER THAT . WE WERE THEN TOLD THAT WHEN THEY CAME UP WITH A FIX WE WERE BE CONTACTED. ITS STILL VIBRATING AND HAVEN'T HEARD OF ANY FIXES.

REAR AXLE WAS MAKING LOUD NOISES, TURNED OUT I HAD TO REPLACE THE BEARINGS IN THE REAR AXLE. COST ME OVER 1100.00, WAS TOLD ITS VERY STRANGE FOR A TRUCK WITH ONLY 76K MILES TO NEED THIS DONE. I ALSO HAD THE REAR DIFF SERVICED BY A DEALER 6 MONTHS PRIOR WITH NO INDICATION FROM THEM OF ANY ISSUES.

WHILE TRAVELING 40 MPH OR SO, THE REAR AXLE PINION NUT SEPARATED FROM THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL CAUSING THE DRIVE SHAFT TO DROP AND THE REAR WHEELS TO SEIZE. I LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE SKIDDING TO A STOP IN THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN AT BILLY BENDER DODGE IN JANUARY TO PERFORM A KNOWN SAFETY RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE, THEY HAD THE TRUCK FOR A WEEK, AND FORGOT TO MAKE THE FIX EVEN THOUGH THE PARTS WERE ORDERED. I HAVE VIDEO OF THE VEHICLE BEING DRAGGED BY THE TOW TRUCK ONTO THE FLAT BED AS THE REAR WHEELS WOULD NOT SPIN. THIS WAS A FRIGHTENING INCIDENT AND THE BLATANT NEGLECT BY THE DEALER HAS ME OUTRAGED. I FEAR THE REAR DIFF AND THE DRIVE SHAFT ARE DESTROYED. THE SERVICE PEOPLE AT LITHIA DODGE IN SANTA FE SAID THAT BECAUSE IT HAD BEEN INSPECTED IN APRIL IT WAS OK. NOT THE CASE. ALL OF THESE MODELS NEED TO BE RECALLED FOR A COMPLETE NEW REAR END. ON 11-8-14, I TOOK A 2010 DODGE RAM 1500 TRUCK IN FOR ENGINE REPAIRS. THE MECHANIC NOTED BOTH FRONT LOWER BALL JOINTS NEEDED REPLACED. A SEARCH FOR THE NEEDED PARTS REVEALED NO REPLACEMENT PARTS AVAILABLE FOR AT LEAST 30 TO 60 DAYS. FOUR WEEKS LATER ON 12-5-14, A FLUID LEAK WAS NOTED FROM THE FRONT END. IT WAS FOUND THAT THE RIGHT FRONT AXLE SEAL NEEDED REPLACED IMMEDIATELY, DUE TO A HEAVY LEAK.THE NORMAL REPAIR WOULD INVOLVE REPLACING THE LOWER FRONT BALL JOINT TO ENTER THE AXLE TO GET TO THE SEAL. THIS COULD NOT BE DONE SINCE NO LOWER FRONT BALL JOINTS COULD BE FOUND TO COMPLETE THE REPAIR. THE MECHANIC ACCESSED THE AXLE SEAL BY GOING THRU THE TOP OF THE AXLE. THE SEAL WILL AGAIN HAVE TO BE REPLACED WHEN LOWER BALL JOINTS BECOME AVAILABLE, AT A COST OF AN ADDITIONAL $150. THIS SITUATION PRESENTS A RISK TO THE DRIVER AND MOTORING PUBLIC, SINCE THE NECESSARY PARTS CAN NOT BE SOURCED. IT CREATES A RISK THAT THE LUBRICATING FLUID INSIDE THE AXLE WILL LEAK OUT, WHICH COULD RESULT IN THE AXLE "TYING UP," CAUSING THE DRIVER TO LOOSE CONTROL AND CRASH. WE WERE DRIVING OUR 2010 DODGE RAM 1500 ON A COUNTY HIGHWAY WHEN WE HEARD A LOUD WHIRRING NOISE. AS WE APPROACHED A DOWNHILL SECTION AND MY HUSBAND TOOK HIS FOOT OFF THE GAS THE NOISE WENT AWAY, BUT CAME BACK LOUDER AS SOON AS HE PUT HIS FOOT ON THE ACCELERATOR. INSTANTLY THERE WAS A BIG BOOM AND THE REAR END OF THE VEHICLE LOCKED UP, THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE SWERVING WITH THE BACK END JACK KNIFING ON THE ROAD WHILE BOUNCING/BUCKING LIKE MOTION GIVEN THE TIRES FELT AS THOUGH THEY WERE ALSO LOCKED UP. WE COULD FEEL AND HEAR SOMETHING UNDER THE CAR BASHING THE UNDERCARRIAGE. THERE WERE NO ONCOMERS FORTUNATELY AND MY HUSBAND DID MANAGE TO STOP THE VEHICLE JUST SHORT OF THE GUARDRAIL AND GOING OVER THE RAVINE. THE CAR WAS STILL HALF IN THE LANE .. HORIZONTAL TO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. HE TURNED ON THE HAZARDS AND I JUMPED OUT, IT WAS DARK WITH NO LIGHTING ON THE ROAD AND HARD TO SEE UNTIL THE CAR BEHIND US STOPPED TO SEE IF WE WERE OK AND SAID OUR DRIVE SHAFT HAD DISCONNECTED. WE REMOVED OUR 2 YOUNG CHILDREN FROM THEIR CARSEATS, WAITED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND THE MEN TRIED TO MOVE THE TRUCK OUT OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC BUT THE TIRES WERE LOCKED. WE CALLED 911 FOR THE POLICE TO GIVE OUR CHILDREN A SAFER PLACE TO STAY OUT OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC AND TO PROVIDE DIRECTION TO ONCOMING TRAFFIC AS WE HAD A TOW TRUCK COME OUT TO BRING THE CAR TO THE NEARBY DODGE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP LOOKED AT THE CAR, INFORMED US IT WAS PART OF A RECALL BUT THEY DIDN'T HAVE THE PARTS TO FIX IT IN STOCK. THEY DID NOT OFFER AN ALTERNATE VEHICLE TO US AND WE ARE STILL AWAITING WORD ON WHAT IS HAPPENING AT ALMOST A WEEK AFTER THIS INCIDENT TOOK PLACE. THE VEHICLE BECAME UNCONTROLLABLE, BUT BETWEEN THE TWO OF US, WE WERE ABLE TO GET TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD, BUT STILL BLOCKING TRAFFIC IN THE RIGHT LANE. A PARK RANGER CAME BEHIND US, PUT ON HIS FLASHERS TO WARN TRAFFIC BEHIND US & AN INCIDENT RESPONSE TRUCK ALSO CAME. THEY WERE ABLE TO PULL US ABOUT A HALF BLOCK TO A SPOT IN THE ROAD WHERE WE WERE NO LONGER BLOCKING TRAFFIC. A TOW TRUCK CAME & TOOK US 50 MILES TO ELLENSBURG, WA WHERE OUR TRUCK WAS REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY AT UNIVERSITY AUTO CENTER. WE HAD RECEIVED A SAFETY RECALL NOTICE (N08/NHTSA 13V-038) SEVERAL MONTHS PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT, BUT WITH EVERY SERVICE AT OUR LOCAL DODGE DEALER WE WERE TOLD THAT THE PARTS WERE NOT YET AVAILABLE & NOT TO WORRY THAT NO PROBLEMS HAD OCCURRED YET. WE WERE WITHOUT OUR VEHICLE FOR 15 DAYS. IT HAS BEEN REPAIRED, BUT WE ARE NERVOUS ABOUT DRIVING IT. WE HAVE BEEN TOLD BY SEVERAL THAT THE OUTCOME COULD HAVE BEEN WAY MORE SERIOUS INCLUDING FATAL IF WE WERE NOT TOWING OUR BOAT. THE WEIGHT OF THE BOAT HELD US DOWN. WE ARE FAITHFUL DODGE CUSTOMERS, SO WILL BE CONTACTING THEM DIRECT TO RELAY ALL OF THIS INFORMATION TO THEM IN OUR WORDS. IT WAS A VERY SCARY EXPERIENCE & WE FEEL THAT THE CHRYSLER CORPORATION NEEDS TO COMPENSATE US. IN AUGUST WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY, PULLING A BOAT, THE GEARS STARTED FALLING FROM THE REAR END AND THE CONSUMER WAS ALL OVER THE HIGHWAY, AS A RESULT OF THE RECALL NOT BEING PERFORMED. I AM NOW TOLD I CAN NOT PULL ANY TYPE OF TRAILER AND THAT IT MAY BE MANY MONTHS BEFORE CHRYSLER/DODGE WILL HAVE THE PARTS TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM. THE DEALER WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE STATES THAT CHRYSLER IS NOT CONCERNED WITH CORRECTING THIS PROBLEM IN A TIMELY FASHION. I CONTACTED CHRYSLER AND RECEIVED AN ANSWER THAT IT WILL BE MONTHS BEFORE THE PARTS ARE AVAILABLE, "IF THEN." M34 RECALL - WE BROUGHT THE CAR TO DEALER APRIL 2013 AND THEY COULD NOT FIX THE RECALL YET (WE HAVE THIS DOCUMENTED - "AS PER TECH NOT IN EFFECT YET"). ON 8/31 WE WERE ON NORTHERN STATE PARKWAY (EASTBOUND) AROUND 8PM WHEN THE CAR FAILED - VERY LOUD NOISE, LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL, HIT A CURB AND BARELY EXITED THE PARKWAY AT ROUTE 110 EXIT. VEHICLE COULD NOT MOVE AND REALIZED THE DRIVE SHAFT CAME OFF AND A PASSING CAR HIT THE DRIVE SHAFT, SEVERAL CARS HAD TO SWERVE AROUND IT, THE CAR FLUID LEAKING, ETC. WE HAD TO CALL AAA AND ARRANGE A TOW TRUCK ($181.95 PAID UP FRONT), ARRANGE TRANSPORTATION FOR OUR 12 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WHO WAS IN THE CAR AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT AND MY WIFE AND I WERE TRANSPORTED BY THE TOW TRUCK. THIS ORDEAL TOOK 2 HOURS. WE ARRANGED FOR DEALER TO TOW THE CAR ON 9/4 - SMITH HAVEN CHRYSLER JEEP DODGE, SAINT JAMES, NY. THE DEALER HAS INFORMED US THAT CAN REPAIR THE DAMAGE CAUSED BY THE REAR LOCKING UP AND THE DRIVE SHAFT COMING LOSE, BUT THEY DO NOT HAVE THE PART TO FIX THE M34 RECALL. I OPENED CASE #23907979 WITH CHRYSLER 9/5. I AM GETTING CONFLICTING INFORMATION SINCE CHRYSLER REPRESENTATIVE INFORMS ME THAT THE PARTS ARE AVAILABLE CBAKM343AA, CBAKM344AA, CBAKM345AA, CBAKM346AA BUT WILL "TAKE A WHILE" TO GET AND THAT THE DEALER CAN ONLY ORDER/RECIEVE ONE OF THE FOUR PARTS AT A TIME. THIS DOES NOT MAKE SENSE TO ME. HOWEVER, THE SMITH HAVEN DEALER AND NHTSA RECORDS (REFERENCE # 565888) INDICATE THE PARTS TO FIX M34 ARE NOT AVAILABLE. THEREFORE, I AM GETTING CONFLICTING INFORMATION REGARDING THE ABILITY TO ADDRESS THE RECALL WHILE THE DEALER IS IN THE PROCESS OF REPAIRING THE DAMAGES AND RETURNING THE VEHICLE WITH THE RECALL ISSUE UNADDRESSED AND MY FAMILY AND I ARE FACING A REPEAT OF A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS FAILURE AT ANY TIME IN THE FUTURE.

MANUFACTURER ACKNOWLEDGED THE SAFETY RECALL IN JANUARY 2013 AND SENT OUT SAFETY RECALL NOTICES TO ALL CONSUMERS THAT THE RECALL AFFECTS. I HAVE CALLED THE LOCAL DEALERSHIPS NUMEROUS TIMES REGARDING THE RECALL AND THEY SIMPLY SAY THAT THE PARTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE. NINE MONTHS AFTER THE RECALL NOTICE DISTRIBUTION I CONTACTED DODGE CORPORATE TO FIND OUT WHY THE PARTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE AND THEY STATE THAT DODGE HAS FAILED TO SECURE A VENDOR TO SUPPLY THE PRODUCT. THIS CONCERNS ME A GREAT DEAL THAT DODGE PUTS THE CONSUMER IN DANGER BY NOT BEING RESPONSIBLE AND MAKING THE REPAIRS NEEDED. I WAS DRIVING DOWN A MAJOR INTERSTATE HIGHWAY IN A CONSTRUCTION ZONE (DOWN TO 2 LANES, CONCRETE BARRICADES ON EITHER SIDE) WHEN I STARTED HEARING LOUD GRINDING NOISES COMING FROM UNDER MY TRUCK. I COULDN'T PULL OFF THE ROAD BECAUSE THERE WAS NO SHOULDER AND THE NEAREST EXIT WAS AT LEAST A QUARTER MILE AHEAD SO I WAS DRIVING TOWARD THE EXIT WHEN THERE WAS A LOUD POP, LOTS OF SMOKE, AND MY VEHICLE SKIDDED TO A STOP. NEARBY VEHICLES NARROWLY MISSED COLLIDING WITH ME DUE TO THE SMOKE AND THE SUDDEN STOP AND THE FACT THAT MY DRIVE SHAFT HAD COME FLYING OUT BEHIND ME. AS IT TURNS OUT THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL HAD COMPLETELY LOCKED UP (DUE TO N08 REAR AXLE PINION NUT ISSUE) AND THE TORQUE HAD POPPED MY DRIVE SHAFT COMPLETELY LOOSE AND LEFT A MASSIVE CRACK IN MY TRANSFER CASE. I HAD BEEN TO MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP LESS THAN TWO WEEKS BEFORE THE INCIDENT BUT THEY DID NOT PROVIDE THE NECESSARY REPAIRS BECAUSE CHRYSLER HAS STILL NOT MADE THE CORRECT PARTS AVAILABLE. CHRYLER HAS BEEN AWARE OF THIS ISSUE FOR OVER A YEAR BUT STILL DOES NOT HAVE THE CORRECT PARTS AVAILABLE TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM, WHICH RESULTS IN CATASTROPHIC FAILURE AND LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL AT HIGH SPEEDS.

WHILE TRAVELING DOWN A 2 LANE PAVED ROAD AT APPROX. 55 MPH, A HUMMING SOUND COULD BE HEARD FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE UPON RELEASING THE ACCELERATOR. THE HUM INCREASED IN INTENSITY VERY QUICKLY, RESULTING IN A LARGE BANG AND NEAR LOSS OF CONTROL LESS THAN 1 MINUTE AFTER FIRST HEARING THE SOUND. I WOULD LATER LEARN THAT THE REAR-AXLE PINION NUT HAD DETACHED, RESULTING IN THE REAR WHEELS LOCKING AND HAVING THE SIDE-EFFECT OF DROPPING THE DRIVESHAFT ONTO THE GROUND. I HAD JUST GOTTEN OFF OF THE HIGHWAY A FEW MINUTES BEFORE, AND IF THIS HAD HAPPENED 1 MINUTE SOONER OR 1 MINUTE LATER, I WOULD HAVE MOST CERTAINLY LOST CONTROL AT HIGHER SPEEDS AND OTHER VEHICLES WOULD HAVE BEEN INVOLVED, OR IN THE CASE OF HAPPENING 1 MINUTE LATER I WOULD HAVE RE-ENTERED A DENSE HIGH-SPEED TRAFFIC AREA AND THE CHANCES OF INVOLVING OTHER VEHICLES WOULD HAVE RISEN SIGNIFICANTLY. FORTUNATELY, FOR THAT BRIEF STRETCH OF ROAD, I WAS THE ONLY VEHICLE WITHIN A FEW HUNDRED YARDS, GRANTING ME THE ABILITY TO REGAIN CONTROL AND GET OFF THE ROAD AT A SAFE TURN-OFF, THAT HAPPENED TO BE THE ONLY TURN-OFF IN THE AREA. THIS IS FOR TRUCKS WITH A 9.28" REAR AXLE IT STATES THAT THE PINION NUT MAY BE BUILT WITHOUT AN ADHESIVE PATCH ON THE PINION THREADS. THE LACK OF THIS ADHESIVE PATCH COULD ALLOW THE REAR AXLE PINION NUT TO LOOSEN AND/OR THE REAR DRIVESHAFT TO SEPARATE FROM THE REAR AXLE. A LOOSE PINION NUT COULD CAUSE THE REAR AXLE TO SEIZE AND A SEPARATED DRIVESHAFT COULD CAUSE A LOSS OF MOTIVE POWER. EITHER SITUATION COULD CAUSE A CRASH WITHOUT WARNING. WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY, I HEARD A TERRIBLE SOUND OUT OF THE REAR OF MY RAM TRUCK. I TRIED TO STOP MY VEHICLE AS SOON AS I COULD WHILE THE SOUND KEPT ON GETTING EVEN MORE TERRIBLE. WHEN I STOPPED AND LOOKED AT THE BOTTOM OF THE VEHICLE, THE DRIVESHAFT FELL OFF FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE AND OIL SPILLED ON ROAD. THERE WAS NO WARNING OR NO ENGINE LIGHT SIGNAL IN THE VEHICLE ELECTRONICS BEFORE OR AFTER THIS HAPPENED. HAS THE VEHICLE BEEN ON A FREEWAY WITH A SPEEDLIMIT OF 100 KM/HR OR SO, I THINK IT WOULD HAVE BEEN REALLY TOUGH TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE IN THIS BREAK-DOWN AND IT COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A FATAL ACCIDENT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT IN A POSITION TO BE DRIVEN FURTHER AND I HAD TO GET IT TOWED TO A NEAREST CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP IN COQUITLAM, BRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA. IT HAS BEEN DAYS NOW AND I HAVE NOT YET HEARD BACK FROM CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP THAT WHAT IS THE CAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM AND WHAT WILL BE DONE TO FIX THIS ISSUE. GOT RECALL NOTICE N08 REGARDING REAR AXLE PINION NUT ABOUT 4/1. AS OF 6/11 DODGE HAS NO PARTS FOR REPAIR AND NO IDEA WHEN THEY WILL HAVE ANY PARTS. THIS IS 70 DAYS AFTER THEY ISSUED THE RECALL NOTICE AND LONGER SINCE THEY WERE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. MY TRUCK HAS HAD AN EXCESSIVE CLANKING NOISE WHEN PUT IN DRIVE OR WHEN CHANGING FROM DRIVE TO REVERSE THAT I COULD NOT IDENTIFY UNTIL NOW. THE STATED ISSUE IS THAT SPLINES ON THE YOKE OR PINION WERE TO SMALL. THE "FIX" IS A BETTER SEALER/PATCH WHICH DOES NOT SEEM TO BE THE CORRECT SOLUTION. IF THERE IS A MISMATCH BETWEEN SPLINES ON THE YOKE AND PINION CONTINUED FORCE FROM ACCELERATION/DECELERATION WILL CAUSE EXCESSIVE WEAR TO THESE PARTS. DRIVING UP A STEEP MOUNTAIN HIGHWAY WHEN TRUCK LURCHED VIOLENTLY TWICE AND CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF A SWITCHBACK CORNER WITH A HORRIBLE DRAGGING SOUND AND SMOKE EVERYWHERE. THE TRUCK WOULD NOT GO FORWARD OR BACKWARD. OIL AND DRIVELINE PARTS WERE ALL OVER THE HIGHWAY. DENTED THE GAS TANK (POSSIBLY PUT A HOLE IN THE GAS TANK), WE WERE TOLD THE GAS TANK WAS DAMAGED AND NEEDED REPLACED. THE REAR-END PINION NUT CAME LOOSE AND LOCKED UP THE REAR END CAUSING THE DRIVELINE TO FALL OUT ONTO THE HIGHWAY, TORE A HOLE IN THE TRANSFER CASE AND DAMAGED THE GAS TANK. WE WERE SIMPLY LUCKY THERE WERE OTHER MOTORISTS ON SAME HIGHWAY THAT COULD STOP AND HELP US AVOID A MAJOR COLLISION ON THE STEEP, BLIND CORNER/ON THE MOUNTAIN HIGHWAY. DODGE IS GIVING US THE "RUN AROUND" ON GETTING THIS FIXED. THEY FINALLY REPAIRED THE TRUCK, PUTTING THE SAME, BUT NEW FAULTY PART THAT IS IN THE MIDDLE OF A RECALL PROCESS, INTO OUR TRUCK AND WANTING US TO BE HAPPY WITH IT. WE ARE NOT. WHILE DRIVING 70MPH DOWN HWY HEARD A LOUD THUMP UNDER CAR, THEN A LOT OF BANGING UNDER TRUCK, REAR OF TRUCK JUMPED AND BOUNCED A LITTLE. THEN WHILE TRYING TO ACCELERATE AND GET OFF FREEWAY FROM THE FAST LANE HAD NO THROTTLE RESPONSE SO COST ACROSS FOUR LANES TO THE SHOULDER ONCE GOT TO SHOULDER I WENT TO HIT BREAKS BUT REAR END LOCKED UP BEFORE I COULD AND TRUCK CAME TO A SCREECHING HALT. NOW IN LATE MARCH 2013 (OUT OF WARRANTY-MILEAGE), THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL HAS STARTED MAKING A LOUD WHINING NOISE. THE DEALERSHIP HAS DONE A PRELIMINARY DIAGNOSIS OF BEARING FAILURE AND SUGGESTED THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL BE REBUILT. I HAVE FOLLOWED ALL PM'S AND FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE THAT MY REAR DIFFERENTIAL IS FAILING AT 111,000 MILES. OF COURSE THE PARTS FOR RECALL ARE NOT AVAILABLE AND NEITHER CHRYSLER OR THE DEALERSHIP WILL RECOGNIZE THE SUBSEQUENT FAILURES OF THE RECALLED REAR AXLE PINION NUT FAILING. HAD VEHICLE TOWED OVER 50 MILES TO A GARAGE TO HAVE DRIVE SHAFT REINSTALLED, NOTICED A GRINDING SOUND WHILE DRIVING BOTH ON ACCELERATE AND DECELERATE. RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE LATER IN 2012 ABOUT THE REAR AXLE PINION NUT BEING FAULTY. CALLED DEALER AND SET APPOINTMENT TO HAVE RECALL FIXED ALONG WITH A SECOND RECALL FOR A/C BLOWER MOTOR DOOR, TOOK 2 DAYS DOWN TIME AND WHEN I WENT TO PICK UP TRUCK, THE M34 RECALL AS ITS KNOWN WAS NOT ADDRESSED BUT A/C WAS FIXED. I WAS TOLD THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO FIX ANY DAMAGE CAUSED TO THE REAR END FROM THE RECALL WHICH IS THE NOISE IM HEARING BUT UNFORTUNATELY CHRYSLER DOES NOT EVEN HAVE THE PART NOR AN EXPECTED RELEASE DATE FOR THE PART TO BE AVAILABLE AND THAT THEY WOULD REPAIR EVERYTHING AT THE SAME TIME. THE FIRST HAPPENED A FEW WEEKS AGO WHEN AFTER THEY HAD FAILED TO DETECT ANY PROBLEMS WHILE MY TRUCK WAS IN FOR SERVICE AND MY COMPLAINT THAT THE TRANSMISSION AND DIFFERENTIAL WERE NOT WORKING PROPERLY, THE DRIVE SHAFT ACTUALLY FELL OFF THE TRUCK WHILE IT WAS IN MOTION AND THE BOLT HOLDING THE U-JOINT FOR THE DRIVE SHAFT SHOT INTO THE DIFFERENTIAL RESULTING IN THE REAR WHEELS LOCKING UP. I WAS IN THE MIDST OF TRAFFIC WHEN THIS HAPPENED AND 2 CARS SWERVED TO MISS ME. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALER, AND THE REPLACED THE DRIVE SHAFT AND A COUPLE PIECES IN THE DIFFERENTIAL, BUT DIDN'T ADDRESS THE TRANSMISSION ISSUE AND NOW THE DIFFERENTIAL WASN'T WORKING PROPERLY AND MAKING NOISE. AFTER CONTACT DODGE ABOUT IT AGAIN, THEY ARE TELLING ME THAT THE DEALER SAYS THERE'S NOTHING WRONG SO THEY WONT REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION OR THE DIFFERENTIAL EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE BEGAN MAKING A WHINING NOISE IN THE REAR DURING DECELERATION, BOTH FROM SIMPLY LETTING OFF THE ACCELERATOR AND BRAKING. NOISE BEGAN 50 MILES FROM RESIDENCE, AND PROGRESSIVELY BECAME LOUDER ON THE DRIVE HOME. AT ROUGHLY 17 MILES FROM MY CURRENT RESIDENCE, A LOUD NOISE WAS HEARD FOLLOWED BY MORE LOUD RUMBLING AND SMOKE FROM DIFFERENTIAL FLUID SLINGING ONTO THE EXHAUST. I TURNED ON TO A SIDE ROAD AND BEGAN COASTING UNTIL REACHING A SAFE LOCATION TO PULL OVER; HOWEVER, BEFORE STOPPING THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL LOCKED UP CAUSING THE TRUCK TO SKID TO A STOP. UPON EXITING THE VEHICLE, I COULD SEE THE DRIVE SHAFT HANGING ON THE GROUND, IT'S REAR CONNECTING BOLTS SHEARED, AND THE DIFFERENTIAL YOKE WAS MISSING. I COULD SEE THE PINION SHAFT SLOPPILY RESTING IN THE THE DIFFERENTIAL WHERE THE YOKE SHOULD HAVE BEEN. I PAID TO HAVE IT HAULED TO THE LOCAL DODGE DEALERSHIP, WHO INDICATED THEY "DID NOT HAVE A QUALIFIED REAR END TECHNICIAN", AND SAID I'D "HAVE TO HAVE IT TOWED TO ANOTHER ONE AT MY PERSONAL EXPENSE" 50 MILES AWAY. AFTER CONTACTING CHRYSLER, THEY REIMBURSED MY TOWING EXPENSE, AND TOWED IT TO THE OTHER DEALERSHIP. THE SECOND DEALERSHIP SAID THE RING AND PINION WERE BROKEN, AND WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED ALONG WITH THE CARRIER. AFTER WAITING ONE MONTH WITHOUT MY TRUCK, I CONTACTED THEM AND WAS TOLD THE PARTS NECESSARY TO FIX THE VEHICLE WERE ON BACKORDER, AND WOULD NOT BE AVAILABLE FOR 3 MONTHS. I CALLED CHRYSLER TO EXPEDITE THE PARTS, AND THAT AFTERNOON WAS TOLD THE PARTS HAD ARRIVED, AND WOULD BE FIXED IN 2-3 DAYS. AFTER ONE DAY, I WAS TOLD CHRYSLER OKAYED AFTERMARKET PARTS TO EXPEDITE THE REPAIR, BUT WERE FLAWED PREVENTING CORRECT REPAIR. THEY OFFERED TO LET ME HAVE IT BACK, BUT WARNED ME IT WOULD MAKE MORE NOISE THAN BEFORE. I REQUESTED THAT THEY FIX IT RIGHT OR NOT AT ALL. CHRYSLER THEN INDICATED PARTS WOULD NOT BE AVAILABLE FOR 5 MONTHS. *TR

DUE TO THE SPEED, VEHICLE CONTROL WAS DIFFICULT WHILE ATTEMPTING TO STOP. ONCE STOPPED, DRIVE SHAFT YOKE WAS OBVIOUSLY SNAPPED OFF AND PASSENGER SIDE REAR TIRE HAD MELTED RUBBER FROM BEING DRAGGED FOR A FEW HUNDRED FEET WHEN DIFFERENTIAL LOCKED UP. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEAL AND AFTER 2 WEEKS DETERMINATION WAS MADE THAT SOMETHING SEIZED IN THE DIFFERENTIAL AND CAUSED INTERNALS TO BE DESTROYED. UPON HIS INITIAL LEAVING HE HEARD NOTHING SO HE PROCEEDED TO PICK UP THE SPEED TO 55MPH TO CHECK FOR VIBRATION IN A NEUTRAL COAST DOWN. UPON REACHING 45MPH THE DRIVE-SHAFT COMPLETELY SNAPPED AND SEPARATED FROM THE REAR END ASSEMBLY, RESULTING IN THE REAR END COMPLETELY LOCKING UP AND SENDING THE TRUCK SPINNING OUT OF CONTROL AND THE DRIVE SHAFT SWINGING VIOLENTLY UNDERNEATH THE TRUCK UNTIL THE TRUCK CAME TO REST IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION WHEN THE TRUCK WAS TOWED BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP THE TECHNICIAN NOTICED THE RACK AND PINION ASSEMBLY COMPLETELY UNTHREADED ITSELF FROM THE DRIVESHAFT RESULTING IN A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF THE REAR END. AS A RESULT IT COMPLETELY DESTROYED THE GEARS AND COMPONENTS WITHIN THE REAR END HOUSING INCLUDING DEEP GASHES INTO THE HOUSING ITSELF RENDERING IT UNSAFE TO RE-BUILD ON. THEY HAVE YET TO GET IT ON THE RACK TO LOOK AT IT. I DID CRAWL UNDER IT IN THE LOT. DRIVE SHAFT FELL OFF. THE PINION APPARENTLY CAME LOOSE, I CAN SEE IT INSIDE THE DIFFERENTIAL AND ALL THE THREADS ARE PRESENT. THE DRIVE SHAFT IS BEAT ALL UP, YOU CAN SEE WHERE IT HUNG ON THE FRAME WHEN THE TRUCK WENT SIDEWAYS. THE FRONT OF THE DIF LOOKS CRACKED, THE PINION IS INSIDE THE DIF WEDGED AGAINST EVERYTHING. THE TRANS SEAMS TO BE LEAKING FLUID AS WELL, CRACKED????? THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE!!!! FIRST MINE IS NOT THE ONLY RAM THIS HAS HAPPENED TO. I HAVE A 2010 RAM WITH 50K MILES ON IT AND JUST GOT A WAKE UP CALL. WHILE RUNNING WITH RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC, I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE GAS, HEARD A LOUD WHINE, THEN KABLAM!!! THE REAR OF THE TRUCK LOCKED UP AND KICKED ME DEAD SIDEWAYS, LUCKILY I HAD JUST GOTTEN INTO A GAP BETWEEN TRAFFIC. NOTHING LIKE HAVING A FULL SIZE CREW CAB TRUCK SLIDING SIDEWAYS ON AN INTERSTATE IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. I MANAGED TO GET THE TRUCK STRAIGHTENED UP AND AS IT WAS ABOUT TO SLIDE AROUND THE OTHER WAY I HEARD THE REAR END EXPLODE AND THE REAR WHEELS FREED UP AND I GOT OFF THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. KUDOS TO THE DRIVERS BEHIND ME, CARS AND THE 2 18 WHEELERS THAT WERE ABLE TO AVOID T BONING ME AS I WENT ON THIS WONDER RIDE. I CLIMBED OUT THE PASSENGER DOOR AND CALLED MY DEALER, THEY HOOKED ME UP WITH ROADSIDE AND AN HOUR LATER!!! WITH RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC JUST MISSING MY TRUCK BY INCHES, I GOT TO MY DEALER. THEY HAVE YET TO GET IT ON THE RACK TO LOOK AT IT. I DID CRAWL UNDER IT IN THE LOT. DRIVE SHAFT FELL OFF. THE PINION APPARENTLY CAME LOOSE, I CAN SEE IT INSIDE THE DIFFERENTIAL AND ALL THE THREADS ARE PRESENT. THE DRIVE SHAFT IS BEAT ALL UP, YOU CAN SEE WHERE IT HUNG ON THE FRAME WHEN THE TRUCK WENT SIDEWAYS. THE FRONT OF THE DIF LOOKS CRACKED, THE PINION IS INSIDE THE DIF WEDGED AGAINST EVERYTHING. THE TRANS SEAMS TO BE LEAKING FLUID AS WELL, CRACKED????? THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE!!!! FIRST MINE IS NOT THE ONLY RAM THIS HAS HAPPENED TO. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 DODGE RAM. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE REAR TIRES SEIZED AND THE DRIVE SHAFT COMPLETELY DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE LOCAL DEALER TO HAVE THE DRIVE SHAFT REPAIRED. AFTER THE REPAIR THE DRIVE SHAFT DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE A SECOND TIME, WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER FOR A SECOND REPAIR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 33,500.

THE REAR END SEIZED WHICH IN TURN SNAPPED THE DRIVE SHAFT IN HALF. THE DRIVE SHAFT THEN PUNCTURED THE FUEL TANK, AND FLATTENED THE SPARE TIRE. THIS HAPPENED WHILE MAKING A RIGHT HAND TURN ONTO A SIDE STREET, MY SPEED AT THE TIME WAS APROX 15 MPH. IT LIFTED THE REAR OF THE TRUCK OFF THE ROAD AND SLAMMED DOWN TO A STOP. I AM GLAD I WAS NOT ON THE HIGHWAY. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 DODGE RAM 1500. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 75 MPH AND HEARD A LOUD NOISE OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE. SUDDENLY, THE VEHICLE SPUN OUT OF CONTROL 360 DEGREES. THE VEHICLE THEN FISH-TAILED AND CRASHED INTO A CONCRETE BARRIER. THE DRIVE SHAFT FRACTURED AND COMPLETELY DETACHED ONTO THE ROAD. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED OF THE INCIDENT. THERE WERE NO PERSONAL INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 21,495.

DROVE VEHICLE FOR THE FIRST TIME IN WET, SLUSHY SNOW (ON PAVED ROADWAYS) FOR ABOUT 45 MINUTES. SNOW PACKED IN AROUND TRANSMISSION AND TRANSFER CASE CAUSING SHIFTER LINKAGE TO BE PHYSICALLY IMPEDED. COULD NOT PUT VEHICLE IN PARK. ENDED UP STUCK IN REVERSE WITH LEVER IN PARK, CAUSING A SITUATION WHERE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE RESTARTED OR MOVED.
