The contact owns a 2012 Dodge Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled. The contact was able to coast to the side of the road. No warning lights were illuminated. After several attempts, the vehicle restarted. The contact stated that the failure persisted. The contact stated that on a separate occasion, while starting the vehicle, after releasing the key fob, the vehicle stalled. The contact taped the key to the side of the vehicle to start. The contact stated that once the key fob was taped, the windows failed to roll up, the indicators failed to function as intended, the heater and A/C failed to operate as needed, and the hazard lights were inoperable. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 140,000.

The vehicle finally became inoperable at 119,000 miles due to lifter failure. Lifter issues started when the vehicle had about 106,000 miles on it. There were multiple misfire and gas mileage became worse. There was a loud ticking noise coming from the engine as well. Vehicle has been well maintained and only 1 owner, purchased new. With the lifter failure, this caused damage to the camshaft and which led to an excess amount of metal shavings to be spread throughout the engine. The vehicle ultimately had to get a engine replacement because of the excess metal shavings in the engine.

Unknown this truck was not involved in an accident however it came close with steering /brakes the Engine Faulty Wiring Harness caused major issues it wasn’t until recently I saw a video of how to fix the problem you can view these videos online I will say Dodge is Responsible they did have buybacks this too I had No Knowledge of no recalls either however I recently address it to the dealership who sold me this truck the Service Manager told me it’s my issue not theirs they took care of it years ago this is the reason I am sending my complaint I was informed your department will look into this matter to get a resolution on this serious matter thank you. I have some photos the video would not download you can see it if you put 2012 Dodge Ram Engine Faulty Wire issues . Yes I spent $3000 for a mechanic to wire it this should had been fix by Dodge Chrysler not me and it still needs to be fix.

The engine has lifters ticking when cold and a loss of power during operation. The engine hesitates during driving at different times and runs rough. There is no warning before this happens and no warning lights/sensors activated. The truck only has 76k miles on it.

The engine has this ticking sound that has progressively gotten louder and now the engine shakes. My truck has turned off multiple times in traffic at a random and I would presume it’s from a failing engine.

The contact owns a 2012 Ram 1500. The contact stated while the vehicle was stationary at a red light, upon starting to drive and attempting to make a right turn, the vehicle inadvertently lost motive power. The contact was able to immediately restart the vehicle. After restarting the vehicle, the vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 160,000.

Warning light came on suddenly. Vehicle lost power. Smoking out of the tail pipe. Very dangerous for other drivers. Took the vehicle to a mechanic, said I have problems with the lifters, and need to replace the engine. I don’t know why Chrysler doesn’t issue a recall for this issue, it seems to happen often. Thank you very much.

Catalytic converter, sensors, knocking loss of power, bogging , hot and cold engine , was on a road trip back home passing a 18 wheeler and it starts to lose power Boggs down and then takes off , steering wheel was iffy, fumes are stong in and out of truck. Threw my suitcase and dog in floor . I have replaced sensors , knock sensor , coils, sparks plugs - no fix muffler shop said catalytic is not plugged up . Sent me to mechanic said ram / dodge designed these years messed up common problem ,one mechanic telling me new engine parts might fix won’t pass inspection so now it just sits and drys up that’s not right for what it has cost my insurance said there nothing they can help with it only has 84k miles please emission and knock common problem that is mana factory defect surely loss of power in traffic scary please help with insurance and parts , gas I have no money for deep engine problems 84 k should still run like new truck the trip there drove great then I went to start to go back home 2 days later and knocking and wouldn’t drive putting scanner said sensor . This truck was running awesome I like driving . But to malfunction no reason. The codes are not right . need my truck back on the road I live in Texas has to pass emission to get inspection sticker

2012 Dodge Ram 1500 5.7 liter HEMI Completely shut down turned off losing ALL power I was 9n the freeway with my kids that was the first time my power steering doesn't work at all when this happens happens about 8 to 12 times a week and to make things better if I hit a bump truck shuts down also I t'' can be driving along and all my indicator light come on everything starts beeping and my wipers go crazy it's like my truck is possessed it's unbelievably dangerous and a major inconvenience I'm late for work kids late for school

I am experiencing a loud exhaust manifold leak for the third time now in this vehicle. The previous mechanic told me the bolts were broken and this is a known problem with these Rams. I can't afford to keep fixing this issue. This isn't an inexpensive fix. Please help

-Wireless Ignition Node (WIN) malfunctioned while driving and randomly shut the engine off. The component is available for inspection. -The vehicle immediately loses power and power steering. At high speeds or an intersection could cause a crash. -Research online has indicated that these are known to cause issues after a period of time where the contacts wear out. -The vehicle or component has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others. -There were no warning lamps or messages. The only other symptoms of the problem prior was an immediate shutdown of the engine after starting at random instances.

The exhaust manifold bolts have broken off inside the block 3 times in 7 years. I have fixed them every time. Most recently, I was advised by service manager at Lithia Chrysler Dodge that 4 manifold bolts were broken and the repair cost $1490. This is a very common issue that needs a recall.

The vehicle is making a loud clicking noise coming from the engine area. . it gets louder when accelerating. It is unknown to me if it could be manifold issues or camshaft issues. It feels unsafe to drive.

Complete engine failure caused by lifters sticking due to lack of lubrication which is a well known problem with the hemi engines. It occurred in my case at approximately 140,000 kilometres despite being maintained religiously with all oil changes done at 5000 kilometre intervals using synthetic oil. Only fix possible because of the damage was to purchase a new long block at a cost of approximately $8000.

My 2012 Dodge Ram shuts off or stalls for no apparent reason. Sometimes upon starting, while going down the freeway (at freeway speeds), as well as speeds in between, This has happened with my family in the vehicle and even when we are towing our stock trailer with animals inside. This is very scary for all of us and dangerous for all those on the round around us. While we have not been involved in any accidents, its just a matter of time. There is never any warning when this happens and it not only shuts off it looses power to everything. So times it catches its self and restarts, other times we have to manually restart the engine.

Issue is that the exhaust manifold studs/bolts break off in cylinder head(s) on 5.7L Hemi engines causing exhaust leak in engine compartment in which could allow carbon monoxide to be drawn into passenger compartment. I personally replaced all the bolts/ studs along with new gaskets each time. Even once replacing exhaust manifolds only to have this issue continue to happen repeatedly.

Intermittent fault from the TIPM module. When slowing to a stop, or slowing to make a turn, the engine dies without warning resulting in loss of power steering and operability while in traffic. The only indication that the engine has died is the tachometer reads 0 RPM, loss of power steering, and the excelerator becomes inoperable. The radio, headlights, and A/C stay on during this. Coming to a complete stop and putting the truck into park (P) and turning the ignition to OFF and then restarting the truck resolves the problem, but on the highway this is EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. This has been diagnosed as an intermittent fault derived from a faulty TIPM module and involves multiple RAM 1500, 2500, 3500 owners. Various issues of similar nature reported to dealerships and on forums.

Failure of fuel pump relay on above listed 2012 Ram 1500 at 69,999 miles. Current repair requires replacement of entire TIPM module (at a cost of $1,000 to 2,000) as this relay is soldered to the circuit board deep inside the module, making it nearly impossible to cost effectively replace this critical $10.00 part. Of note, the TIPM installed in this vehicle has 10 slots (9 relays installed and 1 open slots) for "replaceable" relays under the cover. Of these replaceable relays at least 2 (blower motor and park lamp) are less critical with one empty slot available. Further a safety recall was issued in December of 2014 (Safety Recall P54/14V530 Fuel Pump Relay) for 2011 models of the Dodge Durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee, but no other models despite that the same or very similar designed TIPM's are used in virtually all Chrysler, Dodge, Ram and Jeep vehicles along with many VW models. If this was a SAFETY ISSUE for select 2011 models, why not the other vehicles using the same or similar TIPM's. Further experience has shown that the Chrysler fix tends to have a high failure rate also. Suggestion: Recall all vehicles with TIPM's which have soldered in Relays, for replacement with a re-designed part which allows for all the relays that can be readily replaced. Further consideration in the design of a new part should include the minimization or elimination of multiple points of failure (is a relay really necessary on a circuit?).

I believe there should be a recall by Dodge on their Dodge 1500 Laramie Longhorn with the 5.7 Hemi engines. It's really the Hemi exhaust manifold that is the problem. I have this ticking noise which hundreds if not thousands of others also have. Copied from the Internet ** (Broken or loose exhaust manifold bolts (this is the most common answer). I've had my truck diagnosed and this is what they say is bad. They will not fix it for no charge. The fix is close to and/or over $1,000. Good reason for the to not admit it's their problem. There should definitely be a Class Action Lawsuit against Dodge. This is a very common problem and because hundreds if not thousands of engines have this issue it should be a RECALL issue. I would hope your organization could do something about this. I don't think it's fair that their mechanical problems they caused are my costly problems. I'll pay for wear and tear and things I've done to my car but they should stand up and take responsibility of their manufactures defects. Please help. [XXX] P.s. Wireless ignition module fails to maintain connection with key fob inserted. Looses power on highway if I hit a bump. Dealer will not address the issue. Door locks are also now not functioning. Am assuming it is the trash TIPM in this 2012 ram 1500 chrysler installed. This whole 2012 ram should be recalled totally unsafe vehicle to have my 5 year old and 5 month old in.

Exiting the freeway the truck vibrated and shut off going 55 mph, no brakes, no power steering going into a curve. I managed to keep it on the road and had it Towed to nearest dealership where they were able to diagnose the problem immediately and I was told that this is a know problem with this truck. $6000 to fix, contacted Ram customer service and a very rude woman put the dealership on the line and berated them for claiming there was an issue while explaining that it is completely normal for an engine to blow at 130k miles regardless of maintenance and as it’s out of warranty they were not responsible. “Normal” for an engine to blow, absolutely ridiculous and someone could have died. There are now 533 cases of this happening and Ram refuses to address it.

Camshaft lobe warn down from, from faulty rocker arm roller (needle bearing) (there is no to very little compression in cylinder 5), apparently engine is lubricated "by splash oil design" and people smarter then me have diagnosed that it is a design flaw.(having to do with the well and the height of the bores that accept the rocker arms) The engine only had 118,000 miles when the engine light came on, resulted in a severe knocking sound and misfiring. I expected a well taken care of motor with regular oil changes would last 200,000 miles. My choices are to rebuild the motor and or replace, both are costly. SEEMS LIKE THIS IS NOT NEW, OTHERS THAT OWN THE SAME 1500 MODEL HAVE ISSUES WITH LIFTS AND CAMSHAFT CAUSING A MISS FIRE, P030SOMETHING (MINES IS P0303). THE SPARK PLUS/ FUEL INJECTORS/ AND COIL PACKS HAVE BEEN CHANGED. OUT OF NOWHERE I GET A CODE WHILE DRIVING OUT OF TOWN. THE TRUCK HAS ALWAYS HAD A RUNNING TICK TO IT. I HAVE MY VECHILE SERVICED BY DODGE THEMSELVES. THEY NEVER STATED IT WAS AN ISSUE. THIS IS A BIG ISSUE IN HEMI 5.7 ENGINES MANUFACTURED AFTER THE REDESIGNED FROM THE MAGNUM PLATFORM.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 RAM 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE FORWARD DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO MISFIRE AND SHUDDER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE COILS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. NO DEALER WAS CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VIN WAS NOT UNDER RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 129,000.

ALONG WITH MANY OTHER PEOPLE WHO OWN THE SAME MODEL OF TRUCK I HAVE EVERYONE HAS SEEMED TO COME ACROSS THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE CAMSHAFT AND LIFTERS CAUSING EVERY CAR PLACE IN MY STATE TO BE OUT OF THE PARTS TO FIX IT. I NOTICED THE TRUCK WAS HAVING A HARD TIME SHIFTING AND ACTING WEIRD SO I BROUGHT IT IN TO GET CODED AND WHEN IT WAS GETTING CODED I WAS TOLD BY THE TECH THAT THE 7TH CYLINDER WAS OUT ALONG WITH ISSUES WITH THE CAMSHAFT AND HE HAS SEEN IT IN AN ALARMING AMOUNT OF TRUCKS. SO MUCH THAT THEY COULDN'T GET HANDS ON THE PARTS TO CORRECT THIS ISSUE. UPON LOOKING ONLINE THIS IS INDEED A HUGE ISSUE IN HEMI 5.7 ENGINES MANUFACTURED AFTER 2010.

AFTER PULLING OVER AS SAFE AS POSSIBLE AND JIGGLING THE IGNITION KEY AND TURNING IGNITION KEY TO START THE VEHICLE THEN IT WILL START AND RUN NORMALLY UNTIL THE NEXT INCIDENT ACCRUES. I HAVE FOUND THAT THE IGNITION ON THESE PARTICULAR VEHICLES GO BAD FOR WHATEVER REASON AND LOSE CONTACT WHICH TURNS THE VEHICLE OFF WHILE DRIVING AT ANYTIME. ON MY VEHICLE IT DOESN'T ACCRUE ALL THE TIME BUT ENOUGH TO MAKE IT VERY UNSAFE. MY VEHICLE JUST TURNED 59,000 MILES AND HAVEN'T HAD ANY ISSUES UNTIL NOW.

WITH THE COLD WEATHER, IT'S NOT CRANKING. I HAD A NEW BATTERY AND STARTER INSTALLED AND IT STILL DOESN'T CRANK UNLESS IT'S IN NEUTRAL AND I PRESS THE FUEL PEDDLE. IF IT SETS FOR TOO LONG IN COLD, I HAVE TO REPEAT THE PROCESS AND NO LONGER AM ABLE TO USE REMOTE START AND SOMETIMES HAVE TO BE JUMPED OFF.

MY 2012 RAM 1500 IS EXPERIENCING ISSUES WITH THE WIN MODULE AND WILL SHUT OFF AT ANY GIVEN TIME. IT WILL SOMETIMES NOT START AND IT HAS DIED ON ME ON THE INTERSTATE RUNNING 55MPH+. THE WIN MODULE HAS BEEN RECALLED ON OTHER MODELS OF CHRYSLER DODGE MODELS BUT NOT THE RAM. IT IS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN BECAUSE OFTEN TIMES I HAVE MY CHILDREN IN THIS VEHICLE AND I LOOSE STEERING WHEN IT SHUTS OFF. I'VE READ IN NUMEROUS FORUMS AND TALKED WITH OTHER WHO ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUE AND HAVE GOTTEN NO WHERE WITH GETTING IT FIXED. RAM 1500S HAVE AN ISSUE WHERE IMPROPER MATERIALS WERE USED IN THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD RESULTING IN BOLTS BREAKING OFF AND CAUSING HAZARDOUS EXHAUST LEAKS. MINE CURRENTLY HAS THE SAME ISSUE AND UPON SEARCHING THE INTERNET, IT IS AN EXTREMELY COMMON PROBLEM THAT SOMEONE NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT. THE LEAK IS DIAGNOSABLE BY A TICKING COMING FROM THE ENGINE BAY AT START UP FROM WHERE THE HEAT SHIELD ON THE MANIFOLD VIBRATE DUE TO THE BROKEN BOLTS, OFTEN CAUSING AN EXHAUST LEAK AT THE SITE OF THE BROKEN BOLT.

VEHICLE HAS 138,358 MILES AND HAS HAD REGULAR MAINTENANCE. HOWEVER, THE CAM SHAFT HAS WORN AND ROCKER ARM HAS BECOME LOOSE AND IS CAUSING CYLINDER 5 TO MISFIRE (P0305). THIS FAILURE HAS CAUSED THE TRUCK TO LOSE POWER WHILE DRIVING ON FREEWAY OR TIMES OF ACCELERATION TO CROSS TRAFFIC OR CLIMB STEEP ROAD GRADES. INITIAL INVESTIGATION BY AUTO MECHANIC STATES THAT CAM SHAFT AND ROCKER ARM NEED REPLACING. ADDITIONAL INVESTIGATION IS NEEDED TO SEE IF VALVLES ARE DETERIORATING AND NEED REPLACING.

IN THE MORNING WHILE STARTING TRUCK NO PROBLEM, ALL OF A SUDDEN WHILE DRIVING ON STREET THE TRUCK JUST TURNED OFF. IT HAD HAPPENED BEFORE ON 3 OTHER OCCASIONS BUT THE FIRST ONE WAS FAR APART THEN THE OTHER 2 IN THE LAST 2 WEEKS. WHEN I GOT ON THE FREEWAY I NOTICED A HAD TO PUSH HARDER ON THE GAS PEDAL TO GAIN SPEED BUT IT FELT LIKE IT WAS HARD TO PRESS ON AND I WASN'T GETTING TO THE SPEED (60MPH) SO I JUST TOOK IT SLOWLY TO GAIN SPEED. THAT LASTED ABOUT A WEEK. THE FOLLOWING WEEK AFTER TRYING TO GAIN SPEED AT ABOUT 45-50 MPH THE TRUCK STARTED SHAKING REALLY BAD SO I LET GO OF THE GAS PEDAL AND TOOK IT SLOW AGAIN. SO I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC TO GET A BASIC TUNE UP SINCE I HAD JUST GOTTEN AN OIL CHANGE HE WOULD JUST DO SPARK PLUGS ON3/5/20 TO SEE IF IT WOULD SOLVE THE PROBLEM. AFTER EXPLAINING TO HIM WHAT IT WAS DOING HE TOLD ME RIGHT AWAY THAT IT'S PROBABLY THE CAMSHAFT AND HYDRAULIC LIFTERS WORN OUT WITH MY TRUCK MILEAGE OF 108,000 IT WAS UNBELIEVABLE BECAUSE I ALWAYS MAKE SURE MY TRUCK IS UP TO DATE WITH EVERYTHING. BY THIS TIME NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAD TURNED ON. SO I DROVE IT ANOTHER WEEK AND HALF WITH THE SAME ISSUES; FINALLY ON 3/16/20 THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TURNED ON AND I TOOK IT TO GET IT CHECKED AT AUTOZONE AND OREILYS AND BOTH COMPUTER FINDING WERE CODE P0385 WHICH IS A MISFIRE ON CYLINDER 5 WHICH IS HYDRAULIC LIFTER, CAMSHAFT, AND POSSIBLE IGNITION COIL GONE BAD. I DECIDED TO NOT USE MY TRUCK UNTIL I TOOK IT TO THE MECHANIC WHICH I DID ON 03/24/20. HIS FINDING WERE THE WORN OUT CAMSHAFT AND HYDRAULIC LIFTER ON CYLINDER 5. I DID SOME RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET AND OF COURSE THERE IS A LOT OF PEOPLE COMPLAINING ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM AND IT STARTS WITH TRUCKS FROM 2011 AND SOME WITH ONLY OF 58,000 MILES. THIS IS VERY COSTLY TO REPAIR WHEN YOU EXPECT A TRUCK TO LAST A LONG TIME ESPECIALLY IF YOU TAKE CARE OF IT.

WHEN THE TRUCK LOST POWER, IT WOULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT, LUCKY THOUGH I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER IN ENOUGH TIME, BEFORE ANOTHER VEHICLE COULD HIT ME. I HAVE READ THAT THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS OF CUSTOMERS HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM AND NO RECALL FROM CHRYSLER. THIS IS MY FIRST DODGE, THIS WILL BE MY LAST DODGE UNLESS I GET COMPENSATION FROM CHRYSLER. I STARTED TO HAVE TROUBLE WITH THE TRUCK AS IT WOULD NOT START IN THE MORNINGS WHEN I WAS TRYING TO GO TO WORK. I REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP AND IT DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. SHORTLY AFTER THAT, MY BATTERY WOULD BE DEAD MOST MORNINGS. I REPLACED THE BATTERY, BUT STILL THE PROBLEMS CONTINUED. THE TRUCK STARTED TO LOSE POWER WHILE I WAS DRIVING SO I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC. HE TOLD ME THAT THE TIPM WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I HAD TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP I PURCHASED IT FROM TO HAVE IT FIXED. I HAVE DRIVEN THE TRUCK LESS THAT 7000 MILES SINCE I PURCHASED IT. AFTER SPEAKING WITH FCA, THEY SAY THAT THEY WON'T DO ANYTHING TO HELP OUT BECAUSE THE TRUCK IS OUT OF WARRANTY. I WANT TO KNOW WHY A RECALL WAS NEVER PUT IN PLACE AND ENACTED BECAUSE I HAVE SEEN THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS FROM PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS. THE LEAK IS COMING FROM THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. A MECHANIC FRIEND OF MINE WHO WORKS AT A SHOP IN GAINESVILLE FL TOLD ME HIS SHOP HAS REPAIRED 125 OF THE SAME TRUCKS IN 2.5 YRS WHO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM IS THE MANIFOLD BOLTS ARE FAILING/BREAKING WHICH CAUSES AN EXHAUST LEAK WHICH IN TURN CAUSES THE MANIFOLD TO WARP. MY TRUCK HAS NOW HAD THE SAME FAILURE AND IS CURRENTLY AT MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP. MY TRUCK WAS IN MOTION ON A CITY STREET. CAMSHAFT AND VALVE LIFTER FAILURES ARE KNOWN ISSUES ON THIS VEHICLE ACROSS MULTIPLE MODEL YEARS. THE MOMENT WHEN THEY MANIFEST CAN CAUSE DRIVER DISTRACTION AT THE LEAST, LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL AT WORST. FCA SHOULD BE COMPELLED TO ISSUE A RECALL TO COVER REPAIRS/REIMBURSE THOSE WHO HAVE SUFFERED VEHICLE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 94,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

I HAD TAKEN MY VEHICLE TO LODI CDJR TO HAVE RECALL WORK PERFORMED. THEY THEN INSPECTED MY VEHICLE AND FOUND BOTH EXHAUST MANIFOLDS WARPED AND STUDS HOLDING THEM TO THE BLOCK BROKEN. THEY RECOMMENDED REPLACEMENT OF MANIFOLDS. I HAD THE WORK PERFORMED AT MY PRIVATE MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THEY SEE THIS REPAIR FREQUENTLY. I LOOKED AT DODGERAMFORUM ONLINE AND SAW THIS DAMAGE TALKED ABOUT A LOT. IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT THE 5.7L HEMI BLOCK IS ALUMINUM AND THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD STEEL, 2 DISSIMILAR METALS. IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT WHERE TEMPERATURES CAN EXCEED 400 DEGREES F AND THEN COOL BACK DOWN, DISSIMILAR METALS EXPAND AND CONTRACT AT DIFFERENT RATES, PUTTING SHEERING FORCE ON THE CONNECTING BOLTS, CAUSING THEM TO BREAK. WHICH MINE DID. THIS REPAIR COST ME $890 AND COULD EASILY HAPPEN AGAIN BECAUSE THE DISSIMILAR METAL SITUATION IS BY DESIGN AND REALLY CANNOT BE CURED. I CALLED A LEMON LAWYER WHO DIRECTED ME TO DODGE'S OWN CUSTOMER SERVICE. I EXPLAINED MY COMPLAINT TO THE DODGE CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE CENTER REPRESENTATIVE (1-800-423-6343) WHO SAID HE WAS FAMILIAR WITH THIS COMPLAINT AND RECOMMENDED THAT I CONTACT YOU. THE CURRENT WARRANTY WILL ONLY COVER A FRACTION OF COST. IF THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE, IT SHOULD BE FIXED INSTEAD OF MAKING THE CONSUMER PAY MORE FOR THE PRODUCT DEFECTS.

THEY EXPAND/CONTRACT AT DIFFERENT RATES CAUSING THE BOLTS TO STRETCH AND EVENTUALLY BREAK OFF CAUSING A MANIFOLD LEAK, WHICH REDUCES PERFORMANCE, DECREASES GAS MILEAGE AND LET'S EXHAUST GASSES ENTER THE ATMOSPHERE WITHOUT GOING THROUGH THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. THIS OCCURRED ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ENGINE ON MY TRUCK AT 65,000 MILES, AND AGAIN ON THE LEFT SIDE AT 78,000 MILES.

STATEMENT OF DEFECTIVE BOLTS WAS THE REASON AND WHEN ASKED TO REPLACE BOTH SIDES OF THE ENGINE WITH THE NEW BOLTS, THE DEALERSHIP STATED THEY WERE GOOD BOLTS. BROUGHT IT TO A AUTO PARTS STORE FOR A QUICK CHECK. P303. ENGINE MISFIRE CYLINDER 3. INITIALLY REPLACED IGNITION COIL, THEN SPARK PLUGS, NO CHANGE IN ISSUE. EACH TIME THE LIGHT CAME ON, I WAS DRIVING ABOVE 50 MPH. TAKEN IT AGAIN TO TWO AUTO PARTS STORES, AND EACH GAVE THE SAME ERROR CODE OF P303. TAKEN IT CAR REPAIR CENTER, THEY DIAGNOSED, ENGINE MISFIRE TOO, BUT ALSO SEEN IN OTHER CYLINDERS. REPLACED ALL IGNITION COILS AND ALL SPARK PLUGS, SAME ISSUE. CLEANED FUEL SYSTEM 2X BELIEVING IT WAS CARBON BUILD UP, STILL CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, SAME ERROR CODE. ADVISED BY SHOP TO CONTACT RAM TRUCKS, NOT THE DEALER TO ASK FOR ASSISTANCE, THEY, THE SHOP, INDICATED THAT THE ISSUE THEY SEE, IS THE CAMS AND LIFTER NOT WORKING, AND IT IS A "KNOWN" ISSUE. CONTACTED RAM TRUCKS, THEY OPENED A CASE AND DIRECTED ME TO TAKE TO A DEALERSHIP TO GET IT DIAGNOSED AS THE FIRST STEP. IN TALKING WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER, HE SAID, THE ENGINE IS MISFIRING AT "IDLE" NOT AT HIGHER SPEEDS. THEY ARE GOING TO WORK ON AN ESTIMATE FOR TWO POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS, ONE BEING THE CAMS/LIFTERS AND THE OTHER WAS SOMETHING ELSE, MY FAULT FOR NOT GETTING THAT OTHER, BUT BELIEVING IT IS THE CAM/LIFTER ISSUE. AT THIS TIME WAITING ON DETERMINATION. BUT UNSURE WHAT HELP, IF ANY, WILL BE OFFERED FOR THIS ISSUE. RESEARCH ON THIS SITE AND OTHERS INDICATE QUITE A LOT OF PROBLEM WITH "TICKING" OR CAMS/LIFTERS.

I NOTICED THAT THE POWER HAD REDUCED, FUEL ECONOMY DROPPED, AND THE ENGINE WAS SHAKING, THE ENTIRE TRUCK WAS SHAKING LIKE A TIRE WAS ABOUT TO BLOW OUT. AFTER EXITING AND FINDING THE NEAR O'REILY, I WAS TOLD TO CHANGE THE SPARK PLUGS,AND IGNITION COIL #5 AS WELL AS THE FUEL INJECTOR. AFTER ALL THAT WAS REPLACED, THE LIGHT WAS STILL ON AND FLASHING THE SAME CODE. I HAD THE TRUCK TOWED TO A NEARBY DEALERSHIP AND AFTER THEIR DIAGNOSTICS TEST WAS COMPLETE, THEY REPORTED BACK WITH REPLACING THE CAMSHAFT! THIS VEHICLE HAS LESS THAN 100,000 MILES AND A 5.7 HEMI. IT WILL ALSO BE A MAJOR OUT OF POCKET EXPENSE DUE TO THE WARRANTY EXPIRING APRIL 2017. IT WILL HAVE TO BE FIXED BEFORE WE PUT IT BACK ON THE ROAD DUE TO THE SAFETY HAZARD AND I HAVE TWO CAR SEATS.

WITH THE REPLACEMENT OF LIFTERS, CAMSHAFT, VALVE SPRINGS, THE MECHANIC SHOP ALSO REPLACED 5 BROKEN EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS (ANOTHER KNOWN PROBLEM WITH 5.7L HEMI ENGINE). $4000 LATER I HAVE A SIGNIFICANT ENGINE OVERHAUL ON AN ENGINE WITH JUST 104,000 MILES THAT WAS JUST OUT OF WARRANTY. 5W20 MOBILE 1 SYNTHETIC OIL USED AT ALL OIL CHANGES AT FACTORY RECOMMENDED INTERVAL, SINCE TRUCK WAS NEW.

UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION I SEE THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM. I CALLED CHRYSLER HEADQUARTERS AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO ABOUT IT. THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE AND NEEDS A RECALL! IT HAS DONE IT SEVERAL MORE TIMES WHILE DRIVING. I HAVE NO OTHER CHOICE BUT TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE DUE TO IT BEING MY ONLY MEANS OF TRANSPORT. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS. TRUCK HAS 84K MILES AND SUDDENLY HAS P0303 CODE FOR MISFIRE. IMMEDIATELY TOOK TO MECHANIC. SO FAR VALVE AND LIFTER HAVE BEEN REPLACED, BUT PROBLEM STILL EXHISTS. MOST LIKELY A WORN DOWN CAM LOBE FROM THE BAD LIFTER, SO NOW IM WITHOUT A VEHICLEFOR AT LEAST 3 WEEKS THAT I STILL OWE 20K ON. I CANT BELIEVE THE PARTS QUALITY AND ENGINEERING ARE SO POOR THAT THIS TRUCK DOESNT EVEN HAVE 90K ON IT. TO TOP IT OFF, THE MANUFACTURER HAS STATED THERE ARE THOUSANDS ON BACK ORDER WHICH TELLS ME THIS IS A VERY VERY COMMON PROBLEM. I HAVE COME ACROSS MANY, MANY COMPLAINTS STATING THEY HAVE THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM WITH SUCH LOW MILES AND IRONICALLY OUR TRUCK IS JUST OUT OF WARRANTY.

DURING 2014/2015 THE 2012 DODGE RAM 1500 WOULD FAIL TO START INTERMITTENTLY ESPECIALLY ON COLDER DAYS. DURING JANUARY OF 2015 THE PROBLEM BECAME MORE COMMON ON A DAILY BASIS AND WOULD TAKE 10-15 TIMES TO START THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKE TO DODGE UNDER WARRANTY FOR REPAIR MULTIPLE TIMES AND ACCORDING TO DODGE THE STARTER WAS REPLACED AND THE VEHICLE WOULD START. AFTER OBTAINING THE VEHICLE FROM THE DODGE REPAIR SHOP THE LEFT HEAD LIGHT BEGAN TO GO ON AND OFF INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS AGAIN TAKING TO THE DODGE SERVICE SHOP FOR REPAIR UNDER WARRANTY. DODGE INDICATED THAT IT WAS A FAULTY TIPM AND THAT IT WAS REPLACED AND THAT THE LEFT HEADLIGHT SHOULD WORK APPROPRIATELY. AFTER OBTAINING THE TRUCK ONCE AGAIN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND RETURNED TO THE DODGE SHOP WHERE THEY INDICATED THAT IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION SENSOR WHICH WAS REPLACED. SEVERAL MONTHS LATER THE DRIVER'S HEADLIGHT BEGAN TO GO ON AND OFF INTERMITTENTLY WHILE DRIVING AND SITTING STILL. THE DODGE WAS RETURNED TO THE DODGE REPAIR SHOP WHO STATED THAT THE PREVIOUS REPAIR WAS DONE UNDER WARRANTY AND SINCE THE VEHICLE IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY THEY WOULD NOT COVER ANY REPAIRS EVEN THOUGHT THEY HAVE A 24 MONTH PART POLICY FOR REPAIRS PAID FOR BY THE CUSTOMER. SUSPECTED TO BE A TIPM ISSUE.

ENGINE IDLE SPIKED AND DROPPED IN RUSH HOUR STOP AND GO TRAFFIC UNTIL THE TRUCK EVENTUALLY STALLED. I PLACED THE TRUCK IN PARK AND TRIED RESTARTING. THE "ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL" LIGHT ILLUMINATED IN THE DASH. I TURNED THE TRUCK OFF AND TRIED RESTARTING. THE STARTER TURNED OVER BUT THE TRUCK ACTED AS IF AN ELEMENT NEEDED FOR COMBUSTION WAS MISSING. I TURNED MY HAZARDS ON--AS TRAFFIC WAS CLEARING AROUND ME. I TRIED STARTING THE TRUCK A DOZEN TIMES BEFORE CALLING 911 (SINCE I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSTATE HWY). I TEXTED A FRIEND WHO SAID TRY STARTING WITH THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL FULLY DEPRESSED--THE TRUCK STARTED, BUT THEN WENT RIGHT BACK TO SPIKING IDLE AND THE ENGINE DIED AGAIN. AT THIS TIME TRAFFIC WAS SPEEDING BY SO FAST ON BOTH SIDES THAT I COULD NOT EXIT THE VEHICLE. STATE PATROL CAME TO PUSH ME TO THE SHOULDER. TRUCK STARTED AGAIN ON THE SHOULDER AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS AND I MANAGED TO MOVE IT ABOUT 50 FEET BEFORE IT DIED AGAIN. HAD TRUCK TOWED TO NEAREST DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY INFORMED ME IT MAY TAKE UP TO 2 WEEKS BEFORE THEY CAN DIAGNOSE MY TRUCK. STILL UNDER WARRANTY. I WAS DRIVING MY SONS 2012 RAM 1500 4X4 CREW CAB WITH LESS THAN 20K ON THE ODOMETER BACK FROM TEXAS TO NORTH CAROLINA. I FELL ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL AND WE RAN INTO A PORTABLE TOW BEHIND HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION SIGN, BOUNCED OFF A GUARD RAIL AND THEN ROLLED SEVERAL TIMES DOWN THE FREEWAY EMBANKMENT ON I-20 IN TUSCALOOSA ALABAMA. NOT ONE OF THE 6 AIRBAGS IN THE VEHICLE DEPLOYED. LUCKILY MY SON AND HIS TWO DAUGHTERS ESCAPED PRACTICALLY INJURY FREE, WITH ONLY MINOR ABRASIONS, HOWEVER I TOOK A BEATING TO THE HEAD AND AM STILL OUT OF WORK 1 MONTH LATER DUE TO HEAD/CONCUSSION INJURY. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 DODGE RAM 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN THE VEHICLE ENGAGED IN ECONOMY OR MULTIPLE DISPLACEMENT MODE, THE VEHICLE WOULD VIOLENTLY VIBRATE FOLLOWED BY A LOUD NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE SOFTWARE NEEDED TO BE UPDATED HOWEVER, AN UPDATE WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE DEALER LATER NOTIFIED THE CONTACT THAT THE VIBRATION WAS A NORMAL FUNCTION OF THE VEHICLE'S DESIGN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 3,000.
