Service Power steering warning message popped up while driving and lost all control of steering in vehicle. Very dangerous situation while moving
Component or system that failed / malfunctioned The brake system (pads, calipers, hydraulic fluid) failed three times in less than 90 days. The right-side tie rod end also separated from the steering assembly. Both components are available for inspection upon request. How safety was put at risk The brakes repeatedly lost all stopping power while driving, with the pedal going to the floor and the reservoir emptying within minutes. On one occasion, the brake pads and caliper fell off the wheel assembly, confirmed by the dealer’s own shop manager. The tie rod failure caused uneven tire wear and a highway blowout, forcing an emergency tow. These issues placed me, my child, and other drivers at risk of a serious crash. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or service center? Yes. Premier Auto (the dealer’s affiliated garage) confirmed and attempted repairs three times. On the third visit, the shop manager (Mike) stated that the brake pads were so low they had fallen off, causing the calipers to overextend and leak. Has the vehicle/component been inspected by others? Yes. Premier Auto inspected and repaired the brakes multiple times. Dobbs Tire & Auto later inspected after the blowout and diagnosed additional electrical issues. Documentation, invoices, and photos are available. Were there warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms? The brake warning light illuminated and the pedal sank to the floor during failures. No prior warning lamps appeared before the tie rod separation or blowout. The failures occurred suddenly while driving.

Have not had any problems until this morning. Started the truck to move it and there was a warning flashing on the instrument cluster of a steering wheel and exclamation point. The power steering is not working at all. I have not been able to bring it to a dealer for diagnostics as it is unsafe to drive and can't afford to tow it at this moment.

I’ve owned the truck for about a month with 0 issues up to this point. I was driving home after work on June 17th 2025, when all of a sudden the service power steering light appeared on my dash and my power steering completely stopped working. It became almost impossible to turn the vehicles steering wheel and I almost ran into a building. After doing some research, this issue is apparently a common problem with this year model of ram pickups.
We recently bought the dodge truck from a dealer in Puyallup Washington and noticed it was hard to steer and pulling to the left and right when Turning. It was a hard pull ! Now we can't even drive the truck at all its hard to steer and there's a red light at the bottom of the cluster with a red circle and a exclamation mark.! We don't want to drive it as my husband says it's the electric power steering.the electronic steering does not work at all. We shouldn't be having this problem . As we only had it 5 mos.i don't know the approximate day but started shortly after we bought the truck. Thank you for reviewing our complaint. We are retired and needed a truck for hauling .

What is especially troubling is that I’ve learned Ram issued recalls for steering issues on 2013–2016 Ram 1500 models—recall campaigns that clearly acknowledge this as a known and recurring problem. However, for reasons unclear to me, my specific VIN does not fall under the existing recall despite showing the same symptoms as vehicles that do. Given the nature of the failure—complete loss of power steering while driving—and the significant cost of repairs quoted to me (over $2,700 for parts and labor), I am requesting a thorough review of my vehicle's eligibility under the known recall campaign or warranty support. I strongly believe this issue reflects a broader systemic defect, not isolated wear and tear. I respectfully ask that Ram take responsibility for this critical safety concern and assist in resolving the issue either through recall expansion, goodwill repair assistance, or another appropriate remedy. Odometer Fraud. The contact purchased a 2013 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while attempting to check the Carfax report, it was discovered that there was a mileage discrepancy. The vehicle was a private sale. At the time of purchase, the mileage was 136,000, and at the time of reviewing the Carfax, it was discovered that the mileage was 220,000.

The ABS, parking brake, and traction light are illuminated constantly when driving the vehicle. The vehicle’s braking system and other functions seem to work fine; however, I have lost the use of my cruise control functions. Unfortunately, the ABS module, which, from research, has been the main culprit that malfunctions, is no longer manufactured. This results in me finding a used ABS module via the internet.
The contact owns a 2013 Ram 1500. The contact stated that the vehicle had experienced a loss of electric power steering functionality. The contact stated that the vehicle later failed to start or unlock. The dealer was contacted and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in an unknown electric power steering recall. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
Steering wheel jerks to center position when making turns and power steering has totally stopped working now

I have a dodge ram and the EPS (Electric power steering) had went out making it impossible to steer the while while I was driving I looked up to see if there is a recall for it and Google said there is a recall for the EPS on my make and model truck but when i look at my recalls it says there is no recalls for my truck
My 2013 Ram 1500 has had issues with the horn not working when the middle of the steering wheel is pushed but sounds when the key fob is used to lock doors. The EVIC control on the steering wheel would also not work. This started in 2018 where the problem was intermittent. This was part of recall R36 where the rubbing of the steering wheel harness on the retainer springs could cause an electrical short and or inadvertent air bag deployment. I took my vehicle to Bill Volz WestchesterDodge, Cortland Manor, NY for the recall on 10-19-15 with 18,205 miles. I feel the work wasn’t done properly because the problem reoccurred in less than 3 years and about 6,000 miles later. The horn and EVIC has not worked in over 7 months. My concern is that I could be driving on a major interstate when my vehicle airbag deploys causing a crash. I contacted Chrysler customer service on 1-13-2025 and spoke to a representative. That person called me back on 1-14-2025 and stated that he referred my case #[XXX] , to a specialist who would contact me in 2-3 business days. As of 2-2-2025 I have not received any response from Chrysler customer service. I need assistance in correcting this safety issue. See attachments. The electric power steering stopped working. The service power steering message appeared on the dash. Unable to turn the steering wheel without great difficulty.
EPS light came on 12-31-24 and has happen before I just don’t remember the date the EPS comes and goes making it hard to drive
Brought this vehicle and drove it for 1 month before power steering went out. I was driving on the interstate at a high speed when the power steering light came on. I was unable to steer the vehicle off the road so I had to stop on the interstate and call a tow truck.
Was driving and steering just locked up. Power steering stopped working and it’s so hard to turn or parallel park. Drove right into this big hill. The dealership wants $4,500 for parts and labor to repair it.
ABS light would come on when driving periodically on and off. for a few months it felt like brakes were locking up, Steering was very difficult and hard like the steering wheel was locked making it difficult to turn the steering wheel. dashboard components would periodically turn off and restart. when driving it would make a grinding noiselike the brakes were locked, this would occur with the abs light on and off. the major incident when driving on the freeway. the speedometer completely failed, the digital and needle both were not working. the abs light and warning came on, i pulled over because the speedometer was not working at all, but i was able to drive. the abs warning kept beeping. i was able to pull off of the highway into a parking lot, and the truck shut off and locked. unable to restart the truck at all.
The door locking system does not work as intended. When locking the doors via the key fob, door mounted button, or putting the vehicle into drive, only the drivers door and tailgate lock. The passengers door, and both rear doors do not lock. This problem has been reproduced numerous times [XXX] ). There seems to be no detection or indicators showing that this issue is occurring. The only way to find out is by visually noticing that the door locks have not engaged, or by physically trying to open the doors. EPS red light came on and lost power to control vehicle. Managed to get to side of road and turned vehicle off for a few minutes and started it up again turned around and it was fine. Turned truck around and drove back home to park it. Got almost home and EPS red light came on again lost power to control vehicle. Had to have it pulled home because trying to control it manually was too hard and too dangerous luckily when it first happened there was no oncoming traffic. I was told there was a recall on my year model truck for faulty EPS but when w called the Dodge house was told there were no recalls for EPS on any year models vehicles.
Service Electronic Braking System, ABS, and traction control lights are all firing. Mechanic diagnosed failed ABS module but Ram dealers in my area (Birmingham, AL) have confirmed the part is not available and can not give me a estimated timeframe for repair. This renders my vehicle unsafe to use while I wait on a part Ram is unable or unwilling to provide. Another mechanic gave me the same story and my limited research shows this has been going on for at least 3 years. Dealerships are taking the few available parts for warranties I assume, leaving local mechanics and older vehicles unable to obtain the necessary parts for safe operation which is unacceptable and creates unnecessary danger.
Was making a turn and my power steering cut out forcing the wheel forward causing me to run off the road, turned truck off and then back on and power steering was working perfectly fine after.. still cuts in an out whenever it wants to
Started my truck this morning and warning light came on the dash showing a steering wheel with an exclamation point beside it with a message saying "Service Power Steering". Also, the steering wheel is VERY hard to turn. It seems that the power steering has failed.
Electrical power steering went bad out of the sudden, and almost lost control of the vehicle. It was so hard to steer. I had to replace that whole EPS racking and pinion. New part was on back order, so my only option was to get a used part.

Electric Power steering failed during turn. Parked on side of road, turned truck off waited about 5 minutes and started truck, power steering was working but went back out after about 1 mile. After getting to work, I tried it again and power steering was working. Checked electrical system, battery and alternator are working correctly.
I lost power assist steering while pulling out of my doctor's parking lot yesterday. Fortunately I was able to get the pickup into an adjacent lot, but with much difficulty. I tried numerous times to turn truck off and back on but still no steering. I had a warning light flashing. I then disconnected the negative battery terminal and reconnected it. Warning light still flashed for a bit then went out and power steering worked. I called the dealer who I bought it from new in 2012. Red River Ram in Heber Springs, AR. I spoke with Shane, the service manager. He said they would not work on it because it is over 10 years old. I told him I was scared to drive it but he said he could not help. So I very cautiously drove home and parked. When I went to put the truck in to the garage again no power steering. The truck has had regular scheduled maintenance, stored inside, and only 104,000 miles.
Failure of all steering wheel controls. with random cruise control suddenly activating ...transmission gear control self activation (will drop into lower gear causing driver to fly forward and vehicle behind to take evasive action). radio changes channels by itself. i found info that lead me to believe it was a clock spring issue. was taken to dealer. they diagnosed it as a steering wheel harness that had all the wires pulled out of the plug..800 to repair a 20 dollar wire harness... next drive after repair. buttons all worked again but radio still changing channels..cruise intermittent..gear dropping by itself still..almost rear ended again..back to dealer just to get told they could not do anything for a couple weeks..they are lucky this was not in inter on ice.... original symptoms could not change the display..stuck on tire pressure screen.. no phone control. no radio control. no cruise control , no gear shift control..but things would change on their own.. back at dealer again for further investigation
After parking my truck for the night, the steering locked up. When I went to start it in the morning, the electric power steering did not work. The code it gave was C2217-00
Reduced braking efficiency, loss of speedometer, loss of cruise control, brake light stays on when not depressing the pedal, electric power steering assist not functioning. Check engine light on, abs light on, traction control light on.
Driving fine with no problems then all of a sudden a bell starts chiming about 6 to 8 times then the steering light comes on and the ABS light comes on in the dash and starts blinking , then I lost power to the steering wheel ,was very hard to steer. I pulled to the side of the road and turned the engine off and waited a few minutes to crank it , every thing went normal and I drove home, but before I got home it did it again but this time it went haywire and the wipers came on and the dash lite up like a Christmas tree. I finally made it home and parked it . I sent off the TIPM unit to get repaired ,fixed but steering is still not wanting to work , will call my mechanic to put it in the shop. I have a truck that I have spent a lot of money fixing one thing after another , have already replaced the motor in 2020 . It seems like this truck is a lemon. Thank you01
Hello, I'm filing a complaint against the Dothan, AL Ram dealership due to recalls that were never performed. I bought the truck on 7/12/2021 from a third party. I noticed this particular Ram had 12 recalls so I took it in to the Dothan, AL Dodge dealership to have them repaired. They had the truck for 2 weeks and nothing was repaired. Nothing at all. I lost 2 back pack blowers because of the faulty tailgate latch. I had to take the tailgate from my 02 Ram off and put it on the 2013. That's just one incident, there are quite a few and I've spent countless amount of money and time fixing this truck because of the recalls that were never performed. I need an Inspector to see this, it's ridiculous. When I took the truck in for the recalls it had 101,000 miles, a cold air intake, and different features. When I got the truck back it had 114000 miles, the cold air intake was gone, the Vin plate was replaced with a sticker and it had different features. The GM convinced me I was hallucinating. I'm a disabled adult and was taken for a fool and discriminated against. I am going to have to find a lawyer.
ABS system has failed and damaged the traction control module. Speedometer does not work and brake lights stay on constantly. Power steering assist does not work. The vehicle has been inspected by the dealer and cannot get the parts to fix these issues.
I purchased the truck used June 2023. Odometer currently 47,700 miles. The service power steering light flashes on the evic screen. The steering will be extremely difficult because it is electrical power steering. The problem started October 9th 2023 and has been intermittent. A mechanic did hook up the scan tool and there were no codes. So, it has gotten to where I will do 3 start cycles, idle foe a few minutes and after the 3rd cycle, no codes and the steering works as it should. Thankfully, it happens before I drive out onto the road. I will drive up and down my street before I venture out onto major highways and expressways. However, what's not to say it will have this issue while I'm driving, especially winter around the corner. I researched 2013 Ram 1500, and apparently other owners have had the same problem or worse. This is my daily driver and only vehicle I have. Quite frankly, I get scared driving my truck now. I stay in the lane closest to the shoulder just in case. Ram/Stellantis need to do a recall on these 2013 Ram 1500. I have owned early model rams and a 2016 challenger, not one problem.
I bought it in 2018 & 1 month later no radio, gps, backup any of the stereo system worked. The only thing that worked was volume. I took it in & they charged me $125 diagnosis & was gonna be over $600 for new system. I never got it fixed. In 2022 with only 122000 miles it had to go in the shop for an engine overhaul because of the problem with missing on 5th cylinder. I have never owned a Dodge Ram before & never will again. I have had nothing but problems with it. I made phone calls & wrote emails & the closest I got to a recall is 2014 was the cutoff year & mine is 2013. I did back into a dumpster because the backup camera doesn’t work in January of 2020. I had insurance with White’s Insurance out of Purdy but I don’t have the paperwork anymore.
Electronic power steering unit failure. EPS Unit. Loss of power assist. Warning light came on Friday Sept 29, 2023 at approximately 1:30pm est. when I entered the vehicle and started the engine. Vehicle had been driven and parked for approximately 10 min before I went back to vehicle and leave that location. Warning light was a large icon of a red steering wheel with a red exclamation mark ❗️ then the screen said, “service power steering “ with the red indicator still remaining on. No other warning lights or symptoms prior to the above information. Vehicle taken to Signature Automotive 2725 Northgate Court Cumming, GA 30041 (770) 889-5959 at 8:00 am 10/4/23 for diagnosis. Service advisor stated that there was internal circuit failure. Throwing all “sorts” of internal codes in the electronic unit. Was unable to have system Reestablish communication. Entire rack and pinion unit needs replacement. Called Dodge dealership at 5855 Ga Highway 400 Cumming, GA 30028-4194 I spoke with parts dept. regarding OEM replacement , etc. Advised me that it would be a week to 10 business days before they could get the part. Even then didn’t guarantee that because of the latest strike happening. Informed me it could take much longer. I was also advised not to drive the vehicle. Due to the fact of steering could lock-up while driving and cause a crash. Putting myself and others at risk! At this time the indicator light is still on. Remains on when vehicle is running. No power assist. Extremely difficult to turn.
Issues with pcm, emc, tps. After 98,000 miles everything started not reading correct and giving false check engine light. I bought truck two years ago and it’s hard to believe dealership didn’t no. 2013 ram trucks need to be pulled off market. Nobody can tell you what’s wrong. The truck starts when it wants to. Hits the gas when it wants to. Them machines say no code no problem. If the code that originally popped up said computer not receiving info. Then of course you can’t read problems.
ABS brake Module was diagnosed by the dealership as having a short. I have random brake failure (no accidents to date), speedometer gauge does not work, odometer does not work, cruise control does not work, parking sensors do not work. Dealership told me that a replacement is not available until March of 2024.

The loss of power steering capabilities is still evident and has been electrically verified. The EPS failure has NOT been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or any other agency.
LIGHTING ON INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER WORKS INTERMITENTLY. WHEN IT CUTS OUT, I CAN NOT SEE THE SPEED NOR ANY WARNING SIGNALS. PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN INSPECTED.NO WARNING SIGNS BEFORE IT GOES BLANK.
All instruments and control of window wipers stopped responding to their switches. Wipers will not turn off, no horn, no working switches on steering wheel, communication to abs system, trailer brakes, data from abs not being received. Dash cluster flashes out for about 10 seconds while driving not knowing if the vehicle is still running while on the highway or freeway. Everything is pointing to the steering wheel clock spring. All replaced but still no controls or horn or ability to run vehicle safely on the roads. Will not pass inspection from this issue.
Backing out of the driveway, the power steering light came on and the power steering completely stopped working. I checked the fuses and they were all functional. This morning, I read an article (published 6 days ago) that other 2013 RAM 1500s have experienced the same issue and that NHTSA is investigating. Please add my truck to the list of those experiencing this issue.
The evic cluster that shows speed and other stuff blinks on and off constantly . I heard many people having this problem . It is very distracting to drive the truck with this blinking non stop it is a safety concern .
Power steering would turn on and off while driving then after 1 day of this there was no power steering at all, no light on the dash until it fully went out, I can see recalls in the past over similar problems and when I called they said it was brought in for a software update and that's it, brought to my own shop and the repair will be a whole new rack, costly and dangerous. When the power steering would turn off and on while driving it would snap the steering wheel back to the center
On 26 July 2023 I was driving on the feeder road on west 610 south in Houston Texas. While making a left turn onto MLK Blvd my power steering quit in the middle of the turn. The service power steering light illuminated and the steering was very difficult. I was able to manhandle it back to the house but upon arrival it was almost impossible to get the truck into the driveway due to the steering being so hard. After finally getting into the driveway I turned the truck off and then on again and the steering seemed normal. I haven’t driven the truck sense. My current mileage is 70368. Luckily I wasn’t on the freeway when this occurred as this was during rush hour traffic. It was already bad enough that the he issue occurred at a traffic light with a dual left turn into three lanes. This is a major safety issue that CDJR should issue a recall for. I have read that there are thousands of other similar complaints for the same issue and was told by the dealer that the parts are on back order. The issue with the steering commands an immediate safety bulletin and a recall as it puts not only the driver and passengers at risk of serious injury or death, it also places the risks on the general public.
Dealer confirmed faulty ABS unit module part #68210719AB on my 2013 Ram 1500 Big Horn. No antilock brake capability, no trailer brakes, no traction control and 4 dashboard warning lights on. Dealer went to order parts in April and FCA says it's on engineering hold until march 2024 at the earliest. I told FCA Ram Customer Care on multiple occasions that the truck in not useable and is a safety hazard. I contacted FCA in June and they wouldn't give me a case number and basically said it is what it is. Dealer can't do anything and has tried everything to find the part. I saw there was a class action lawsuit filed and multiple complaints about this very same issue, most notably with 2017-18 Ram 1500's but mine is a 2013 with same issues and same part #. I can't be expected to not have a vehicle for 11 months at best. Ram Customer care has not been helpful at all.
The electronic power steering suddenly stopped working while I was turning and I almost got in an accident, then the power steering suddenly came back again while I was turning and since it wasnt working I was having to use a lot of force to turn it so when it came back on the steering wheel turned very quickly and I ended up in the ditch. Luckily no one was hurt this could have been very bad. Yes it is available for inspection. The safety of a lot of people were at risk. This is a recall on other 2013-2015 Dodge Ram 1500's, ours however doesnt match the serial numbers of the recalled ones even though it is obviously affected by the same issue. The recall number is VB9/NHTSA 19E-077. The parts have been looked at by a mechanic and they are bad, and very expensive to replace. The electronic dash also stopped working before this so I dont know if there were any warning lights or anything before this happened.
Truck says service electric brake system.
Electronic power steering. My steering will go out while driving and I have to pull over, turn the truck off and turn it back on. The power steering will stop working without any notice and has almost cause FATAL accidents if I were not able to recover in time. Last time I brought the truck in to get looked at i was told nothing was wrong drive safe.... which is impossible now cause my power steering randomly fails on this truck. There is no warning or anything that pops up until it is too late. This happens at any time between 0-85 MPH and if im in a turn or going straight.

The car is not breaking or driving and dangerous at times. Was taken to deer and the abs computer module was the issue. It’s been 4 months every abs module they’ve gotten from the company is programmed wrong. I went through 3. No parts are available nationwide. Hundreds if not thousands of dodge ram truck owners have the same parts issue the abs module stops working and cannot find another. Dodge has done nothing to address the situation the dealers are being forced to go on eBay and junkyards to get these modules - if dodge knows the part is breaking down in 70-80% of its cars after only 30-120k in miles have been put in they should have a recall and capability to manufacture said part.
The airbag light turns on and beeps. The truck is available for inspection. A dealership told us it was the sensors that have gone bad. It is odd that all the sensors would go bad all at one time. Concern is if there is an accident, the air bags will not go off as intended. There is also concern that the airbags could go off while driving. Also it is beeping often while driving and it is distracting. There are no other issues. But we see that there has been recalls in the past over airbag systems on this truck. We are very concerned since the truck carries very precious cargo.

Rack opinion according to Dodge dealership mechanics need replacing. I was told by another professional mechanic that the sway bar and tire rods need to be replaced. Will you all please search for Recalls N complaints. I will have the racken opinion work done because of the Safety issues that are at hand. Revision "N" of the Body Control Module (BCM) is defective and causes the door auto door locks to not lock correctly by either either the key fob or the interior lock buttons. This results in the doors not locking and children can open the doors while driving at any speed. I was driving down the interstate and started to see flames and smoke coming from my hood. I pulled over and was able to put out the fire. The fire department showed up and determined that the fire started from the fuel injector system.
The TIPM failed, & has been failing The vehicle just died in a traffic lane. There were no warnings or ability to avoid any incident that could happen from being stranded in a travel lane. Being stuck in a travel lane is extremely dangerous. The part is not inspectable, Ram seen fit to create an issue with the design of the TIPM that can easily be avoided. The vehicle gives no warning

Electrical Power Steering (EPS) light turned on. Car is not drivable at this time. I understand that there is a known defect with the EPS in this make and model of the year.
The fuel level gauge/sensor has failed 3 times now, making it impossible to know the fuel level when driving. It was repaired in January 2019, and again in July 2019, and failed again in August 2020 and remains broken due to the ridiculously high repair cost. This is a common problem with Ram pickups and should be a recall. When the fuel gauge fails the check engine light comes on and stays on until cleared by a technician. This is a safety hazard because the driver has no way of knowing how much fuel is actually in the tank and could easily end up with the driver being stranded on a busy interstate or in a dangerous situation.

MANY PEOPLE ON THE RAM FORUM REPORT THE SAME ISSUE. IT'S A PROBLEM BECAUSE I CAN'T LOCK THE DOORS AND KEEP MY KIDS INSIDE WITH THE CHILD SAFETY LOCKS ON. INITIAL DIAGNOSES WAS FAILED ALTERNATOR. HOWEVER, ONCE ALTERNATOR WAS REPLACED, SEVERAL OTHER ISSUES AROSE, IMMEDIATELY. THE PDC AND CABLE, BATTERY AS WELL AS WIPER MOTOR, AMONG OTHER ITEMS IN LINE, WERE ALSO DAMAGED. SMOKE INSTANTLY FILLED ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT IT APPEARED THAT VOLTAGE HAD BEEN BACKFED THUS CAUSING EXTENSIVE DAMAGE NOT NOTED EARLIER. THE DEALERSHIP THINKS THAT IF THEY SUBMITT ADDITIONAL REPAIR REQUESTS TO MOPAR, BEYOND ALTERNATOR FAILURE, THAT THIS WILL RESULT IN NON PAYMENT BY MY EXTENDED, LIFETIME WARRANTY PACKAGE I PURCHASED WITH VEHICLE. I HAVE THE DAMAGED PDC BUT WAS NOT ALLOWED TO KEEP OTHER ITEMS. I ALSO HAVE PHOTOS OF ITEMS REPLACED. MY INSURANCE COMPANY STATED THAT THIS PDC ISSUE TO BE A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THIS MAKE AND MODEL. WHEN IT SHUTS OFF, THE SCREEN IN THE MIDDLE COMPLETELY GOES BLACK, THE RPMS AND SPEEDOMETER, AND OTHER GAUGES GO TO ZERO. AFTER A SECOND OR 2, EVERYTHING TURNS BACK ON AS IF I HAD JUST STARTED THE VEHICLE (RAM LOGO POPS UP, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON, OIL TEMP LIGHT IS ON, GAS LIGHT IS LIGHT ON, SEATBELT LIGHT IS ON, ECT). ALL GAUGES THEN GET BACK TO THEIR PREVIOUS READINGS, AS FAR AS I KNOW, JUST BEFORE THE RESET. EACH TIME THIS HAS OCCURRED, I HAVE BEEN TRAVELING ANYWHERE FROM 35-55 MPH ON A STRAIGHT ROAD. THE TURN SIGNALS WERE WORKING INTERMITTINGLY THE LAST TIME THEY WERE USED. ONCE THE RIGHT HAND TURN WAS COMPLETED, AND BEGAN DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, THE DRIVERS STEERING WHEEL AIRBAG DEPLOYED. ONCE THE VEHICLE CONTROL WAS REGAINED IT WAS PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND SHUT OFF. THE AIRBAG LOOKED TO HAVE BURN HOLE IN IT AND THERE WAS THE SMELL SIMILAR TO PLASTIC MELTING. THE KEY WAS TURNED BACK ON AND AT THAT TIME NO TURN SIGNALS WOULD WORK AND THE WIPERS WOULD NOT STOP OPERATING. ALTHOUGH THE AIRBAG DEPLOYED AND DIVERTED ATTENTION WHEN IT WENT OFF, IT DID NOT FULLY INFLATE EITHER. THE DEALERSHIP WAS CONTACTED AND THEY RECOMMENDED FILING A COMPLAINT WITH CHRYSLER. SINCE THE DEALER WAS ONLY A COUPLE MILES AWAY, THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THEM. I CONTACTED CHRYSLER AND FILED A COMPLAINT. THEY ADVISED THAT THE DEALER IS NOT TO TOUCH IT UNTIL AN INVESTIGATOR CONTACTS THEM, AND THAT I WILL BE PROVIDED AN ALTERNATE SOURCE OF TRANSPORTATION. I CONTACTED CHRYSLER AND WAS ADVISED THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO AND IT WAS IN THE HANDS OF A DIFFERENT DEPARTMENT THAT I WAS NOT ALLOWED TO CONTACT. AFTER NUMEROUS REQUESTS TO SPEAK WITH A SUPERVISOR AND THE ALTERNATE DEPARTMENT, I WAS FINALLY CONTACTED BY MR. KON OF SPECIAL INVESTIGATIONS ON AUGUST 15TH. HE ADVISED THAT THERE WILL BE NO TRANSPORTATION PROVIDED UNLESS CHRYSLER DETERMINES THAT THEY ARE AT FAULT FOR THIS. HE WAS ALSO UNABLE TO PROVIDE ANY TIMELINE AS TO WHEN SOMEONE WOULD BE ABLE LOOK AT THE VEHICLE. THE DEALERSHIP IS ALSO TAKING THE APPROACH THAT THEY WILL NOT OFFER A SOURCE OF TRANSPORTATION UNTIL IT IS APPROVED BY CHRYSLER. THE R36 RECALL RELATED TO THIS SAME SYMPTOM WAS REPORTEDLY DONE BY THE DEALER IN THE SPRING OF 2016.

THE EXPLAINED TO FIX IT, THEY WOULD NEED TO SEE IT HAPPEN. I DECIDED TO DRIVE IT. HOWEVER, TODAY I HAVE TO RELY ON OTHER PEOPLE TO DRIVE IT, AND I WORRY NOW ABOUT THERE SAFETY. HE RECOMMENDED THAT IF YOU'VE HAD THIS HAPPEN TO NOTIFY YOUR STATE ATTORNEY GENERAL. I DID, THEY ASK I FILE IT WITH YOU. I'M NOT ANGRY WITH MY DEALER, OTHER THAN THE FACT THEY ASK ME TO NOTIFY CHRYSLER, AND I TOLD THE THEY SHOULD REPRESENT ME AS THEIR CUSTOMER WITH THE COMPANY. I'M 77 YEARS OLD, BEEN DRIVING OVER 60 YEARS. I'VE NEVER HURT ANOTHER PERSON IN A WRECK, BUT THIS PICKUP IS DANGEROUS. TRUCK SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE. THERE WAS A MESSAGE ON THE DASH STATING "WRONG KEY FOB". I WAS A LITTLE UNEASY OF ONLY HAVING ONE KEY ON ME AND FOR THE NEXT SEVERAL MONTHS, ALWAYS HAD A SPARE IGNITION KEY ON ME. WHILE DRIVING LAST WEEK, THE TRUCK SHUT OFF, FLASHED THE WRONG KEY FOB MESSAGE, AND I PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE INTERSTATE. I TRIED USING MY SPARE KEY, AND THE TRUCK STARTED RIGHT UP AND DROVE NORMALLY. THE ORIGINAL KEY I WAS USING NO LONGER WORKS, AND I WILL HAVE TO GO TO THE DEALER TO PURCHASE A NEW ONE. TOOK FIRE DEPARTMENT 3 ATTEMPTS TO EXTINGUISH THE FLAMES. AFTER FLOODING THE INTERIOR AND DASH CAVITY (THROUGH THE HOLE BURNED THROUGH THE DASH) OF THE VEHICLE 2 TIMES, THE FIRE CONTINUED. AT THAT TIME THE FIRE DEPARTMENT DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY AND FLOODED THE INTERIOR AND DASH AREA A 3RD TIME WHICH FINALLY EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. THE ONLY INJURY WAS SMOKE INHALATION AND RESULTING SORE THROAT SUFFERED BY ME, THE ONLY OCCUPANT OF THE VEHICLE. THIS VEHICLE WAS LESS THAN 6 MONTHS OLD AND I HAD NO PRIOR PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE. STEPPED ON GAS PEDAL SEVERAL TIMES THINKING IT WAS STUCK WITH NO EFFECT - RPM REMAINED CONSTANT. THEN PUT BOTH FEET ON BRAKE PEDAL - RPM REMAINED CONSTANT. THEN SHIFTED TRANSMISSION INTO NEUTRAL POSITION. CHECK ETC / RED LIGHTNING BOLT MESSAGE NOW ON IN MESSAGE CENTER LOCATED BETWEEN TACH & SPEEDOMETER. RPM'S NOW AT A CONSTANT 4K WITH VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL AND COASTING. NO PLACE TO TURN OFF WITHOUT BLOCKING TRAFFIC. STOPPED AT LIGHTED INTERSECTION - VEHICLE STILL AT 4K RPM. SHIFTED BACK INTO "DRIVE", TIRES CHIRPED AND TRUCK LUNGED FORWARD STILL AT 4K RPM. PARKED VEHICLE IN SAFE PLACE ADJACENT TO GAS STATION AND SHUT OFF - TRANSMISSION STILL EITHER IN GEAR OR NEUTRAL. ENGINE OFF - SHIFTED INTO "PARK". WAITED 3-4 MINUTES AND ATTEMPTED TO RESTART VEHICLE. ENGINE ICON, ECT ICON AND RED STEERING WHEEL WITH EXPLANATION POINT ICON WHERE ALL ON. VEHICLE CRANKED, BUT ACTED LIKE NO FUEL / SPARK AND WOULD NOT START. VEHICLE TOWED TO DEALERSHIP ON FLATBED. NO WORD BACK FROM DEALER YET. MILEAGE 5,443 - MOSTLY HIGHWAY. NOTE: NO FLOOR MATS JUST FACTORY RUG AND CRUISE CONTROL WAS NOT "ON" OR IN USE IN ANY WAY. ONLY MODIFICATIONS TO VEHICLE ARE THE ADDITION OF A SPRAY BED-LINER AND TOPPER. I WAS BORN AND RAISED AROUND CARS AND HAVE GOOD MECHANICAL ABILITY INCLUDING GROUND-UP RESTORATIONS OF PRE 1970 VEHICLES. I DIDN'T REALLY NOTICE ANY EFFECT TO THE DRIVING CAPABILITY, BUT THIS IS THE FIRST TIME THAT MESSAGE HAS APPEARED AND I NOTICE THAT THERE ARE TWO SIMILAR COMPLAINTS POSTED HERE ABOUT THE SAME MESSAGE. ON AUGUST 26TH I WAS TRAVELING IN MY TRUCK AT ABOUT 58MPH WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ON. AS I ENTERED A 45MPH SPEED ZONE I TAPPED THE BRAKE PEDAL TO DISENGAGE THE CRUISE. THE TRUCK MAINTAINED SPEED SO I PRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL MANY TIMES WITH THE TRUCK NOT SLOWING DOWN. I THEN HAD TO HIT THE BRAKES QUITE HARD TO SLOW DOWN. WHILE DOING THIS I NOTICED A MESSAGE COME UP ON THE INFO SCREEN WHICH READ SERVICE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL. AFTER STOPPING I CHECKED TO SEE IF SOMETHING LIKE A FLOORMAT WAS PRESSING ON THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, WHICH THERE WAS NOT. THIS SAME SITUATION HAPPENED AGAIN ON AUGUST 30TH. I CONTACTED SOUTH LAKE MOTORS, THE LOCAL RAM DEALER TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT FOR SEPT. 4. I TOOK MY TRUCK IN AND THEY FOUND A CODE IN THE COMPUTER, BUT COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. IN THE FOLLOWING 2 WEEKS THE SAME THING HAPPENED TWO MORE TIMES AS I TRIED TO SLOW DOWN FROM A SPEED OF BETWEEN 55 AND 60MPH, EXCEPT I DID NOT HAVE THE CRUISE ON. THEY LOOKED IT OVER AGAIN ON SEPT 19 AND DECIDED TO PUT A NEW ACCELERATOR PEDAL IN IT ON SEPT. 20TH. THE NEXT DAY IT STUCK AGAIN AS I TRIED TO SLOW FOR A TRUCK TURNING IN FRONT OF ME, ALMOST CAUSING ME TO REAR END THAT VEHICLE. SEPT 27TH I TOOK IT BACK IN AND THEY STILL COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. ON OCT 7 I ONCE AGAIN DROPPED MY TRUCK OFF AT THE DEALER AND THEY KEPT IT FOR 5 DAYS TRYING TO DUPLICATE THE ISSUE. THEY COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM. ON OCT 13 WHILE TRAVELING AT 45MPH I LET OFF THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND THE TRUCK MAINTAINED SPEED, I HAD TO SLAM ON THE BRAKES TO SLOW IT DOWN TO NEGOTIATE A CORNER WITHOUT WRECKING. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWO TIME SINCE THEN. ON OCT 21ST I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY INSTALLED A DATA RECORDER TO RECORD THE EVENTS.THE MECHANIC AND OTHER DEALERSHIP EMPLOYEES HAVE TOLD ME THIS TRUCK IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. BACK TO DEALERSHIP AND FIXED IGNITION. 1OCT2013 BACK TO DEALERSHIP FOR SAME IGNITION ISSUE. DEALERSHIP OPENED CASE STAR CASE WITH CHRYSLER. TECHNICIAN FOUND THAT WHEN KEY WAS NOT PUT IN COMPLETELY STRAIGHT IT LOCKS A TUMBLER CAUSING THIS ISSUE. DUPLICATED SAME ISSUE ON 2 NEW DODGE RAM TRUCKS ON THEIR LOT. ENGINEER FROM CHRYSLER ADVISED ACTING AS DESIGNED AND RESOLUTION IS TO RE-EDUCATE CUSTOMER HOW TO INSERT KEY. I (THE CONSUMER) OPENED A CASE WITH CHRYSLER MYSELF ([XXX]AT 800-992-1997 WHICH IS ALSO TIED TO THE DEALERSHIP STAR CASE THEY FILED) TO ESCALATE FOR A BETTER RESOLUTION. BESIDES THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE IS HORRIBLE AT CALL BACKS AND UNABLE TO REACH ANYONE IN MANAGEMENT (I HAVE A DETAILED LIST OF PEOPLE, CALL TIMES, DATES, EMPLOYEE IDS) I ALSO RXD THE SAME RESOLUTION, NO ISSUE FOUND, ACTING AS DESIGNED. I COMPLAINED AND TOOK IN TO THE DEALERSHIP TO BE REPAIRED BUT THE DODGE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE TOLD ME THERE IS NOT A PROBLEM BECAUSE IT WORKS AS DESIGNED. OBVIOUSLY THERE IS A FLAW IN THEIR DESIGN. I RESEARCHED THIS PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET AND MANY PEOPLE HAVE COMPLAINED OF THE SAME THING. THE HORN CONTROL ON THIS PARTICULAR MODEL OPERATES THROUGH THE COMPUTER AND THAT IS WHAT IS SAID TO BE CAUSING THE DELAY. THE DELAYED HORN IN MY VEHICLE HAS NEARLY ALLOWED ACCIDENTS ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS BY CONSEQUENTLY CAUSING A DELAYED RESPONSE FROM THE DRIVERS OF OTHER VEHICLES. ON ABOUT 3JUL13, MY WIFE AND I FOUND OUT THAT THE RUNNING LIGHTS FOR OUR TRAVEL TRAILER WEREN'T WORKING. ALL OTHER LIGHTS WERE WORKING, SO WE CONTINUED DRIVING DURING DAYLIGHT HOURS. ON RETURNING HOME, I FOUND OUT THAT THE TRAILER LIGHTS WORKED WHEN HOOKED UP TO A BATTERY, BUT THERE WAS NO POWER GOING TO THE APPROPRIATE PRONG IN THE WIRING HARNESS EVEN THOUGH THE RUNNING LIGHTS ON THE TRUCK FUNCTIONED. I BROUGHT THE TRUCK BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE A FUSE HAD TO BE REPLACED IN THE TRUCK. THE SERVICE MANAGER THEN TOLD ME HE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH HIS TRUCK IF: - THE TRAILER WAS PLUGGED IN WHEN THE TRUCK WAS STARTED - THE LIGHTS HAD BEEN LEFT ON "AUTO" OR THE RADIO WAS LEFT ON. THIS PRESENTS A SEVERE SAFETY HAZARD IF I'M PULLING A TRAILER AT NIGHT AND FORGET TO TURN MY LIGHTS OFF AUTO OR LEAVE MY RADIO ON PRIOR TO STARTING THE VEHICLE. THE RAM TRUCKS USE A LOGIC CIRCUIT TO CONTROL ALL ELECTRONICS. THE HORN IN THESE VEHICLES ALSO USES THIS LOGIC CIRCUIT, INSTEAD OF USING THE TRADITIONAL DIRECT CONNECT OR RELAY CONFIGURATION THAT MOST CARS/TRUCKS USE. BECAUSE OF THIS LOGIC CIRCUIT, THERE IS AN APPROXIMATE 1 SECOND DELAY BETWEEN THE TIME THE HORN IS DEPRESSED UNTIL THE HORN ACTUALLY SOUNDS. THIS VEHICLE WAS IN FOR SERVICE THIS WEEK AND THE DEALER INDICATES THIS IS NORMAL FOR THIS TRUCK. THIS IS DANGEROUS. BY THE TIME THE HORN SOUNDS, AN ACCIDENT COULD HAVE OCCURRED.
