2014 Ram 1500 lost power-steering while driving
Question 1: Vehicle has experienced a total loss of power steering, a known issue on these trucks that is actively under an NHTSA ODI investigation. This report should be added to ODI investigation number RQ 23-003 as an identical example of the issue. Problem began at around 70,000 miles and gradually became worse until power steering control was completely non functional. Vehicle is available for inspection upon request. Question 2: Vehicle is incredibly difficult to control in turns. Requires a level of strength that the average driver does not possess, and if they do, operation of the vehicle is still extremely physically difficult. Question 3: Problem has been confirmed by multiple independent service centers. Question 4: Component has NOT been inspected by manufacturer, police, insurance representative. Component HAS been inspected by service center technicians and quoted for replacement at over $4,000. Question 5: Warning lamp indicating steering problem is always illuminated in the vehicle. Warning lamp initially appeared during the first failure, which occurred while operating the vehicle at highway speed.
I turned on the highway and power steering gave out and went back ima couple days went out again and have t driven it since
Intermittent power steering loss. Can go for a couple of days and problem reoccurs. Cannot drive vehicle safely anymore. After re-start, power steering returns. Will fail again randomly.
The power steering system failed & is causing safety issues.

My electric rack and pinion went out
Complete steering gear failure while driving. Son was driving truck and "steering wheel" icon warning light came on with loss of power steering. Was able to drive home without power assistance and I checked fuses and such to no avail. Did some online research and found quite a few issues related to steering gear failures. No one was hurt but definitely severe safety issue potential.
Steering wheel locked during a slight left hand curve and drove into the oncoming traffic! Thank God the oncoming traffic was far enough away to stop before hitting me head on! Upon researching this, it appears to be an ongoing issue and owners are forced to buy a complete rack and pinion set up of which are very limited in availability! An electronic EPS with no available electronic board 🤷‍♂️ Ever heard of right to repair but beyond that had oncoming traffic not been aware there could have been a major head on collision with serious injuries or even someone DEAD!
Intermittent loss of power steering due to faulty EPS module. Warning in dash says service power steering. When this happens there is no power assist. Unit had been checked and verified that power, ground, and all other wires are i. Good working order. Problem is within EPS module.
Electric power steering is lost when weather is cold but as soon as the truck warms up the power steering starts to work again
Drove truck to work, was losing power steering intermittently with no dash or warning lights. While operating the vehicle the steering will become so hard that it feels like it could jerk your shoulder off. Steering is fine when driving straight, any turns causes the power steering to intermittently quit working, causing you to have to correct it so hard that you almost overturn the vehicle because the steering gets so tight and then lets loose. This vehicle is not currently safe to be operated. Have since tried to drive the vehicle and only get it backed out of the driveway and experience the same issue. Will have to have it towed. I have had a shop check over the vehicle, they have advised the power steering rack and pinion will need to be changed.
It doesn’t steer at all
All summer my pickup was fine, now that it is getting colder my power steering isn't working anymore. Seems like anything below 32° and my power steering will kick off and stop working. It has almost caused multiple crashes since the vehicle is hard to steer. I got it diagnosed by a dodge dealership, and they told me the internal control board is malfunctioning and needs to be replaced.
Check engine light came on and then turning a corner my power steering turned off. Cause me to run off the road and almost crashed. It yanked me straight off the road. Put a code reader on it and C2200-49 was popping up.
Electronic power steering went out while I was operating the vehicle almost resulting in a wreck. Was intermittent after that, and now won't work at all making the vehicle undrivable.
The contact’s husband owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while her husband was driving 45 MPH, the vehicle lost power steering functionality with the message "Warning Power Steering" displayed. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed, and the contact was informed that the power steering gear was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

Starting to turn left and the power steering stopped working and made me go straight. Took it to dealer and checked out Power steering rack. I had no other option than to order part since this is the only vehicle i have. Immediately after the malfunction on the turn the "Service power steering" warning lamp showed up on dash.
I was driving to work when my steering wheel started to jerk when making a left turn, all of the sudden it became real hard to steer and became difficult to drive.
On September 22, 2025, I was driving my wife to the store in my 2014 Dodge Ram 1500 Tradesman 5.7L Hemi Pickup. I was at a stop light waiting to turn left. When the light turned green, I proceeded to start my left turn, as I entered the intersection there was a tremendous jolt causing the steering wheel to violently jerk out of my hands and making it nearly impossible to turn the steering wheel. After nearly colliding with another vehicle waiting at the light in the opposite direction, it took all my strength to attempt to steer my vehicle since all power steering was gone. I veered my vehicle into a business driveway right at the intersection and was able to stop my vehicle. After I stopped, I noticed a "Hazard Light" flashing on the instrument panel, it was the " Electric Power Steering Fault Warning Light". I have since learned that there is and have been a "Recall" for a Power Steering problem with Ram Trucks in the same Year Range.
The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the steering wheel felt stiff and became difficult to steer in either direction. The “Service Power Steering” warning light was illuminated. An appointment with the dealer was scheduled to inspect the vehicle. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 83,000.

Loss of power steering while driving.
Driving normally about 30mph about 2 minutes into my trip, heard chime and power steering stopped. Got it to the side of the road and re-started engine. Power steering came back. Drove about another 10 minutes and it happened again. Re-started engine and it was fine for the rest of the day.
The EPS system Electric Power Steering failed without warning while in the middle in a turn almost causing an accident and the truck running off the road. Other trucks of this model have problems with the EPS and have been recalled but my truck of the same model is not.
Steering is locking up while driving. Had a diagnostic done and they said the rack and pinion and EPS module needs replaced. According to the internet the RAM 1500s are all having issues and there have been safety recalls on the trucks. Except for the 2014 model year.
Loss of power steering while driving causing loss of control of vehicle.
My son was driving on the freeway and went to change lanes and all of a sudden the power steering system stopped working and he told me after the fact that it locked up and he could not turn the steering wheel so he hit a guard rail and flipped the truck on its side. It caught on fire instantly and he was lucky to be able to get out. A passerby stopped while the truck was on fire and held the passenger door opened for him as he climbed out. If there were any children in the vehicle, they might have not been so lucky! Could have killed my son and anybody else on the road that early morning. Should be a police report. No system failures at the time.
the electric steering. yes it is available to inspect. steering intermittantly fails and very hard to turn. when turning it doesnt wanna turn and almost hit a car and some objects. no the vehicle has not yet been inspected by dealer due to cost of everything. no the vehicle has not been inspected at all yet. no i have not seen any warning lamps or messages in regards to the steering. it just started happening. ive heard and read alot that have had the same issues
The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the ABS warning light illuminated, causing the cruise control mode and the 4WD system to become inoperable. Additionally, the traction control, the brakes, and the check engine warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that while driving and braking or accelerating on a wet road surface, the vehicle was sliding. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the contact was informed that an electronic brake control system part needed to be replaced, but the part had been discontinued. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. Additionally, the contact stated that while driving and turning, the electric power steering was inoperable intermittently, but the vehicle experienced excessive unintended steering efforts while turning the wheel back to center after making a turn. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 68,000.
Mileage: 68,000
Electric Power Steering Loss Entire Power steering and front end rack steering had to be replaced.
The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 MPH and exiting a highway, the contact heard a chime and became aware of the "Service Power Steering" warning light. The contact stated that the steering wheel became difficult to turn. The contact used additional force on the steering wheel to turn the steering wheel to the right and jerked the steering wheel to the center. The contact stopped the vehicle and disconnected the battery terminals to reset the system. The vehicle regained power steering functionality, but almost immediately, the vehicle lost steering assist functionality. The vehicle was driven to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the power steering assist module and the rack and pinion gears had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19E077000 (Steering). The manufacturer was informed of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 260,000.
Mileage: 260,000
The power steering on the vehicle is stiff due to a communication error to the right pinion. At highway speeds the vehicle’s steering wheel lock up resulting in abrasive movements and a loss of control of the vehicle steering. When the vehicle is at a low rate speed, the steering wheel is very hard to turn, which has almost resulted in a number of vehicle collisions. After extension of research, I have became aware there’s a pending lawsuit with no power regarding this issue. It is approximately three to $4000 to replace the power steering rack and pinion. There have been numerous complaint as mentioned in the lawsuit. I believe if this issue is not immediately addressed, and a recall is submitted from Mopar motor vehicle accidents will increase resulting into severe injury threat to the general public.
Steering suddenly stopped working, causing me to have a hard time turning the steering wheel to complete my turn.I have found out that Ram is recalling certain Ram trucks but mine is not included in the recall.
While driving on winding country roads (30mph speed limit) the electronic power steering chimed and lost all assistance. I almost ran into another car/ off the road as steering became extremely difficult. I was able to get the wheel turned and come to a stop.I have never had an issue with the steering before so this was very unexpected. The truck is completely stock, regularly maintained and only has about 150000 miles on it. I was able to pull codes from my scanner C2217-00 Electric Power Steering Internal Failure. The fact that I have driven a truck that had hydraulic power steering fail and had more control is alarming.
The contact owns a 2014 RAM 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the steering wheel failed to turn in the intended direction and became significantly difficult to steer. The power steering failure warning light was illuminated. Additionally, the contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the power steering was operable temporarily, and the failure recurred. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The contact referenced an unknown recall, but the VIN was not included in the unknown recall. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 74,000.

Intermittent Power Steering Faulire
The Electronic Power Steering unit cut out intermittently causing loss of power steering. While the rest of the vehicle operates properly, the loss of power assist makes it difficult to maneuver the vehicle. I took the vehicle to the Ram dealership in Martinsburg, WV. There, the mechanic assessed the gear rack for the power steering needed to be replace at an estimated cost of ~$4,300. The power steering warning light it lit when it is in the failure mode. The symptoms first appeared in May 2025. The vehicles has less that 50,000 miles on it and has never been driven off-road.
Power steering module failed ,loss of steering.part was retained by dealer doing repair. The part has been repaired. The part has not been inspected by anyone other than the dealer doing the repair. The warning light only appeared at time of failure. The incident definitely occurred due to faulty power steering module, this was determined by the repairing dealership.
I was driving my truck and my power steering went out. I had very little steering and almost ran into a cement wall. My steering wheel will barely turn. I got it to a mechanic, and I was told I need an entire new steering rack. Part number 68628858AA. I had zero notification that this was going to happen. It was driving fine. This is almost $4000 to fix. I only have 68,000 miles on my truck. This part needs to be recalled on 2014 Rams. After some research there are several cases of this exact issue. It won't let me download my receipts
After starting truck the Service Power Steering light came on. Can't turn the steering wheel-steering is locked up. It appears Chrysler knows about it and has recalled some 2015 Model Years for this problem, but no recalls for this for the 201 Model Year. This could be a safety hazard if this happens while driving the truck.
Power steering completely went out steering wheel extremely hard to turn.

I started my 2014 Dodge Ram 1500 and began to drive it. Without any prior warnings, my power steering went out. Fortunately, I had not made it to a major road to put any others in danger by not being able to maneuver the vehicle or driving down the highway and possibly wrecking the truck. At this time, I'm currently looking for a mechanic that can assess the damage but was saddened to see how there have been recalls for the electronic power steering system on 2015 and 2016 Dodge Rams but NOT the 2014 when so many others have experienced the same difficulties.
Our power steering has stopped working and there was a recall on Ram 1500 models for this defect but not for the 2014 which has the same steering component. We would like the 2014 model and any model that has the same defective steering to be included. This is a very expensive fix and very dangerous to operate like this
Vehicle is a 2014 Ram 1500 with electric rack and pinion steering. The truck has 96XXX miles on it. When starting the truck the "service power steering" warning comes on in the info center and truck does not have power steering and is very difficult to turn. There have been times that the steering warning lamp is on on startup (different than the "service power steering" warning) and the steering doesn't work . This is a widespread issue with this model of truck. After trouble shooting it has been determined the electronic module is bad and it is $4200.00 to replace at the dealer. There was a limited recall on the 2016 models for the same problem but for a very limited number of trucks. This is an ongoing issue for these trucks. It's not a mater of if they fail it is a matter of when. Most of the reports I have read is that they fail between 60- 100K miles. This is Very dangerous if it fails when driving. Since this has been not recalled the problem doesn't show up on a carfax or any other car reports so you have no idea this is a thing until it happens to you.
LOSS OF STEERING
While driving on the expressway power steering went out. My wife was driving with my granddaughter in the car with her. Looks like there has already been a recall on this year ram 1500 but not my specific VIN? From what i am seeing here it should be included
Power steering quit working while I was driving without warning. I have replaced the battery and tried numerous solutions and they have not resulted in fixing the power steering. Outside of replacing the entire rack, I have run out of options. My fear is that if I had been with my children, driving on a winding road, or otherwise, this error could have cost me thousands of dollars or totaled the vehicle and/or caused innumerable cost of damage to property or other vehicles and people. Without a resolution, the vehicle is rendered inoperable. According to the Mooar website [XXX] ) cost to replace has been estimated to be between $3105.00-$3870.00 before adding the service fees. This is a vehicle that our family of five needs. It is also something that is too costly to repair and we cannot trade it in or sell it for any real value. This issue is a safety concern that should be addressed of the highest concern. Other 2014 Ram 1500’s have been recalled due to concerns regarding the power steering; however, our vehicle was not given a recall. [XXX] ). I feel that this defect is extremely dangerous. Without warning, the power steering will intermittently stop working. Trying the truck off and waiting sometimes solves the issue but that isn’t always the case and expecting customers to drive a vehicle that has a defect that is a hazard, is irresponsible and has already cost our family money that we have needed for other expenses. Thank you for allowing me to contact you and I look forward to hearing from you with a solution to this problem. While driving electric power steering stopped working almost having an incident. The steering gets hard and soft and when turning it has difficulties straightening outright on road. Not sure if this part of the ram recall.
The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while reversing and turning the steering wheel to the left, the steering wheel seized. The contact stated that the power steering warning light illuminated, and the vehicle was towed to the residence. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the rack and pinion had failed, and the electric power steering gear needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 200,000.
Mileage: 200,000
I turn the truck on to leave said place, put the truck in reverse, try to turn steering wheel and it wouldn’t turn. Then a steering wheel light comes on with an ! Exclamation point. I start looking up issues on rack and pinion steering issues for the Vin number. That shows that a lot of people have been having the same issues so I take my truck to the dealership after calling and confirming that there was a recall, and after running their test or whatever now they’re saying that there is no recall so here I am filing report because I need there to be a recall on this. There’s multiple people that I’ve been going through the same issue. I also cannot afford a 4000to $5000 bill to get it fixed.
Power steering went out while driving , took the truck for inspection, noticed that went turn either way power steering motor will do the opposite , very dangerous in my opinion , seen in the news couple head to head collision involving a ram going into the oposite lane on a highway , multiple casualties were reported, that makes me wonder if the power steering was at fault , making the truck turn suddenly , I can only imagine going 70mph and having the issue that my truck is showing , very dangerous, these needs to be look out , millions of trucks out there with the same type of power steering.
The electric power steering is faulty in these vehicles. 2015-2016 year models were recalled for this issue, but 2014's were not included even though they use the same electric steering rack. This repair is $3-4000
Intermittent power steering loss.
The contact owned a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving 45-50 MPH and making a turn on a curvy road, the vehicle lost power steering functionality inadvertently, causing the contact to lose control of the vehicle. The vehicle crashed into a guardrail. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact was able to drive to the residence; however, the power steering failure persisted. The contact went to the emergency room later and was informed that he had sustained multiple sprains and strains on the neck. The insurance company towed the vehicle from the residence and later informed the contact that the vehicle was most likely totaled. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 124,600. The VIN was not available.
Mileage: 124,600
The power steering went out with no warning which could have caused a catastrophic accident with possible death or a deadly accident!
The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact became aware that the electronic power steering was not functioning properly, requiring increased effort to maneuver the vehicle. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the rack and pinion. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V167000 (Steering); but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 156,000.

I literally got in my the truck and the power steering no longer worked no warning lights just no longer worked.
Steering was intermittent for some time now.is completely out
Electric Power Steering goes out intermittently. Common issue with these trucks. I believe the recall needs to be expanded. Doubtful I'll waste money fixing it myself. May just have to shop around for a new GM or Ford since Ram is no longer American owned.
My Electronic Power Steering Rack failed intermittently. After further research, I discovered that other Ram year models between 2013 and 2019 had recalls on the electric assited power steering rack. Unfortunately, my VIN is NOT subject to any of the recalls mentioned above even though some of the parts are the same. I believe that the Rack or it's inner individual parts is defective in it's design and unsafe, as the power steering can fail during operation, causing a loss of control and could result in a crash. The part has now completely failed and the vehicle is parked and not driveable. It is available for inspection here at my residence. I have not had the truck inspected by a Dodge dealer since the VIN is NOT under a steering recall. I am certain that it should be. Driving the vehicle could be dangerous and deadly with this kind of failure.
This problem first surfaced during the fall of 2023. Starting the vehicle having been parked overnight, the electonic power steering on the Ram 1500 failed. This made steering the vehicle especially difficult. Very hard turning. Difficult to maneuver into tight spaces, turns, and parking spots. A right turn into the right lane is almost impossible due to the exaggerated turn radius required without the EPS. The dashboard does show a red urgency light that looks like a steering wheel with exclamation points on the left and right sides. This was the first time the power steering failed. A couple days later the system returned and functioned normally. However, several times since then, particularly during high humidity, rain, or even after certain snow events, the power steering has failed to operate properly. As of this writing, on May 1, 2025, we have been without benefit of the EPS since December 2024. Even though the days are no longer humid and they are getting warmer, the system has not reverted to full operation. In early 2024 a Dodge sales and service garage gave a quote to replace the entire rack and pinion, stating that there was a computer component on there that needed replacing. Calls to two more repairmen and online Internet searches returned the same general price quotes. Online searches into this problem show that there are many other complaints of the same type of malfunction for the Ram 1500 over the past about six years.

My power steering stopped working down the highway at 70 mph. I almost lost control into a ditch.
I was on my way home from work in Texas and after a couple of turns and curves it suddenly just got really hard to steer. I looked down at my cluster in confusion as to what was going on and the steering light was flashing. Luckily for me I decided to take back way home, less traffic. Made it home safely and vehicle hasn't nor is going anywhere untill a solution is avaiable or next step. And truck is available for inspection. This was my first stop to see if issuse was on a recall list. Apparently I'm not the only one affected by this.. 2014 Ram 1500 5.7l hemi 4x4 lonestar 191,000 miles.
The Power steering system on our 2014 Ram is faulty and we were told there is a recall associated with this issue but it does not include our Vin Number. If this is a known issue with the Rams from 2013-2016 why haven't all the models been recalled. As of this time the issue only happens when first starting the truck and then the warning light goes off. We are afraid to drive this vehicle.
My electric power steering rack has failed. The vehicle is very hard to steer and unsafe to drive. I know there was a recent recall affecting 1500 Rams which included my model year of 2014. But my VIN was excluded for some reason. I think the recall should be expanded to include my VIN, as the problem is exactly the same. I have not been in an accident with vehicle - it's just not safe to drive.
The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 40 MPH and making a lane change, the steering wheel became difficult to turn. ABS module failure. Doesn’t allow traction control, ABS, or cruise control to work. Module was diagnosed bad at dealership and Chrysler can’t get a replacement module manufactured. Have already paid for the module in August of last year and still can’t get one.
Parked my truck and service power steering light came on. Took it to the dealer and they confirmed that it is the power steering control module failed internally. I see that there is a common problem with the same issue, I bought this truck and it only has 37,000 miles on it
The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving at 50 MPH, the vehicle became difficult to maneuver. The Electronic Power Steering warning light was illuminated. The electric power steering (EPS) system on my 2014 Ram 1500 has intermittently failed, most recently when transitioning from idle, such as leaving a parking lot, and during deep turns. This marks the third time I've experienced steering-related issues with this truck. Each time the EPS fails, a "Service Power Steering" alert appears, and the steering becomes extremely difficult, posing a serious safety risk, especially in situations requiring precise maneuvering or sudden corrections. A sudden loss of steering control could lead to a collision, potentially resulting in serious injury or death. This issue has been previously repaired twice—once by the original dealer and once under warranty after I purchased the truck, without prior knowledge of the problem. Despite these repairs, the failure has returned, indicating an unresolved or recurring defect. The issue has not yet been diagnosed or confirmed by a dealer or independent mechanic for this latest occurrence. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request.
On or about [XXX], I was traveling on [XXX] in Thomasville GA. As I turned left onto [XXX} The steering wheel suddenly, without notice, locked left a spun right to 12 o'clock,, straight alignment which caused my left risk to to snap and I believe would have been broken if I had not let go of the steering wheel. This caused the vehicle to veer into the left lane slightly across the center lane where oncoming traffic deemed it necessary to veer right to curbside to prevent a collision. Although almost impossible to steer, I managed to turn it around and get it back into my yard which is approximately 800 feet . The steering remained almost impossible to steer after a few checks and then and now it is permanently locked. There were at the time of incident, no warning lights. There after: the service power steering light appears. Thomasville Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram advised that the EPS rack and pinion is the cause and has to be replaced. I contacted Chrysler Customer service and spoke to customer service representative Ian who advised a recall for this issue is forthcoming and he allegedly tried to assist with this repair. However other customer service representatives deny Ian's statement to me and even claim that he does not work there. The claim number he provided to me is case #[XXX]. Steering started getting very tight and wheel not returning properly to center. I actually have to pull the wheel back to go straight. Truck will drift in a lane from right to left however very tight steering makes it hard to correct easily. According to dealership these trucks have a common problem with the electronic rack and pinion and it needs to be replaced.
On 2/20/25 I was driving making a turn it was hard to turn I checked to power steering fluid and it was fine. I checked for any leaks there was none. Then I took it to the mechanic and they said I need a new Steering Gear Assembly ( around $4,000) 🤦‍♀️ I see there are a lot of other people having the same problems with the Ram1500.
The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving approximately 65 MPH and following a curve to the right, the steering wheel was very difficult to turn. The contact stated there was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent but occurred at various speeds while turning to the right or the left. The contact researched online and became aware that there were many reports of intermittent failures of the power steering assist with similar vehicles. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a dealer or to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 161,835.

My power steering has suddenly become intermittent. It works sporadically during a turn. I am receiving no warning signs or codes for this problem. I have read on line that there was a study being done by NHTSA (2003) about a possible recall for this issue. Can you tell me the results of the findings? Has the study been completed?
I was driving in a 55 MPH 2 lane road, when all of sudden the power steering went out. I had to man handle the steering wheel back to my house. It has 122000 miles on it but that should never happen, could of been a real bad outcome. I have checked out everything and have narrowed it down to the EPS system.
Power steering locked up while driving.
I parked my truck which had been having no problems and went to get back in it the next day and the steering wheel light came on in the dash and the steering wheel was locked up. Spoke with a dodge dealership and they said they was aware of the problems unfortunately there was no recall on this and my only option is to buy a whole new steering rack which is not cheap. Truck is available for inspection but there is know way to drive it but does startup and everything else works properly. Just glad this happened while truck was sitting still and not driving down the road.
I have a complete loss of power steering on my vehicle. At first it was intermittent. I could be driving the vehicle and lose power steering. I could have power steering, shut the vehicle off and restart it and have no power steering. Early on when I lost power steering I could put the scanner on which it would indicate code c2217, clear the code and power steering would resume. This no longer works and there is complete power steering loss. I contacted Ram customer service on 12/23/2024 and was given case id 91757632. I contacted them on 1/22/2025 and was given case id 91960594. I was promised that someone would contact me within 24 hours, no response. I then contacted them on 2/3/2025 and was given the same promise with no response. On 2/5/2025 I once again called Ram customer support and asked to speak with a manager. I was told that I would be contacted within 24 to 48 hours which they documented via email, no response. From my research I have learned that the probable cause is a manufacturing defect being a contaminated circuit board. Recall S19 has been issued for 2015/2016 trucks but to date not for mine. I am left with a life threatening vehicle and I cannot even begin to describe the runaround that these representatives have given me.
The power steering motor died. My 2014 RAM 1500 is no longer drivable due to not being able to steer. My truck is currently at the dealership, and it is going to cost $4050 to replace the part. I have 117k miles on the truck and it is almost 10 years old, major components like the power steering should not go out this early in the vehicle's life. I do not see a recall currently opened, but I do see where several people have posted the same issue as me.
Electric Power steering (EPS) Warning lamp came on while driving this 2014 Ram 1500 Crew Cab 4x4 1500 Big Horn and had no power steering! Mechanic states approximately $4k to replace rack and pinion steering. Searching there are thousands of these trucks out there with the same problem. I have checked the Ram "recall" and the S/N on this gear does not match any of those listed. Terrible design and FCA needs to step up to the plate and make this right for Ram Owners before more are injured or worse. Truck will be parked it it not safe to drive and who has four grand laying around to fix these trucks?
My electric power steering stopped working at first it was intermittent only happening randomly but after restarting the vehicle it would work again then it finally stopped working while on the highway I sprained my hand maneuvering the vehicle safely out of the fast moving traffic cannot move the steering wheel it’s hard to do and it is very costly other vehicles just like mine have recalls over this why not mine
On January 27 I started my truck to drive and within minutes the power steering became extremely difficult and impossible to turn . I believe it's the EPS system failure which I have found out is know to fail in the trucks ., There were not any warning messages until it happened.it is available for inspection
The Electronic Power Steering (EPS) module in my 2014 RAM 1500 fails consistently (each time) when the vehicle is started. To date, the EPS module begins working within 10 to 20 minutes of vehicle start-up but does not provide any confidence in it's continued operation. The vehicle has reeently been in for replacement of the EPS module, including the rack and pinion system. When the EPS module is not working, there is no power steering assist, and driving the vehicle puts the driver, other occupants and surrounding vehicles/pedestrians in danger, especially were it to fail unexpectedly during operation. The problem has been confirmed to require replacement of the EPS module at Earnhardt CDJR in Gilbert, Arizona in October 2024. It was confirmed again by an independent service center on January 15, 2025 and has recently been in for repair/replacement. While this particular vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer, there has been a recall of the EPS module for 2013-2019 RAM 1500s, so the problem has been acknowledged by the manufacturer. No warning lamps or messages appeared prior to the failure. Following the initial failure, each time the vehicle is started the "Service Power Steering" warning lamp and message appears. The warning lamp and message turn off when the EPS module begins working.
While driving, the electronic power steering stopped working and caused the steering to lock. Had to take urgent maneuvers to get stopped while not being able to steer. A red power steering warning light popped and flashed on the dash. The truck was turned off and started again and the light and issue went away. Started the truck again the next day, light and power steering light was on again (with steering locked). Turned off, started again and the light is gone and power steering works. Appears to be an electrical or related issue. This has not been taken to the shop as of yet as it happened these past few days. Looking into history and options and found this active NHTSA Action Number: RQ23003 which is an exact match for my experience. We are looking into options for repair but seems the entire rack and pinion will need to be replaced for a non-mechanical, electrical issue. Cost are estimated to be over $3k.
The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the steering wheel seized with the service power steering warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the EPS gear assembly had failed and needed to be replaced. The dealer confirmed that the VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 19E077000 (Steering). The contact was referred to the NHSTA Hotline for assistance. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 162,975.

Power steering failure when temperature drops below freezing.
Power steering failed while driving down road. Turn off and back on and it’s fine then went out after like 5 minutes
The electric power steering failed without notice on 12-12-24. I was driving all day with no incident. I stoped for about 5 minutes and when I restarted my truck the steering wheel was stiff. Received a warning light to service power steering. I had no choice but to drive back home without the power steering working with much difficulty. I then scanned the truck and it gave me fault code C2217 status:MIL/CONFIRMED - Electric Power Steering Module Internal: No Sub Type Information. After disconnecting all connections and confirming there wasn’t no corrosion present, I cleaned all connections to the battery as a precaution and once everything was put back the power steering worked. Everything worked perfectly until 1-3-25 when the power steering went out again with the same fault code. I was able to get the truck home where I reinspected all connections. Once I reconnected everything the power steering worked again. It continued to work until 1-6-25 and has not worked since. Mechanic confirmed that the power steering module failed and the entire rack and pinion assembly needs to be replaced. He also mentioned this is a common issue with these trucks and there was an open investigation on FCA due to it. When the power steering fails it creates a safety risk to everyone on the road due to the fact the truck is extremely difficult the steer and can lead to an accident. The truck is currently available for inspection upon request due to the high cost of repair.
The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at undisclosed speeds, the power steering assist became inoperable. The power steering warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V167000 (STEERING). The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the electric power steering unit needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted. The failure mileage was unknown.
Power steering keeps going in and out while trying to drive. Unsafe when turning when it does not want to turn them all of a sudden will just begin turning. While trying to navigate turns you also have to bring wheel back to straight position your self as the steering wheel will lock and hold your current turning radius
Eps locked out..unable to drive on way to my brothers funeral..Sept 27 2024
Lost all control to the Electronic power steering. There is no power steering at all. Very dangerous to drive.
Loss of power steering. Vehicle is available for inspection upon request. Difficulty steering vehicle at all speeds. The issue has not been confirmed by a service center. The vehicle has not been inspected. There were no warning lamps, messages or symptoms of the problem prior to failure.
Power steering stopped working suddenly. Truck was at the dealership for an oil change and the power steering stopped working. If you would have been on the highway this could be very dangerous especially if you are someone without a lot of arm strength because the steering becomes very difficult.
Electronic power steering has gone out twice. The first time it went as I was leaving a fast food drive through. Warning light came on as it happened. No one except my mechanic has inspected the vehicle but I will have to repair it out of po let until the investigation is complete. I almost had to drive over the curb since steering it was nearly impossible. It has since gone out again. Thankfully in my driveway. I know there is an investigation into this and I would like to be added to the list of complaints and hopefully this ends up being a recall.
Recently, I started having problems with my electric power steering. While driving I would experience sudden loss of power and the power steering service light would start flashing. This happened on multiple occasions without a warning. It also happens at random times so I decided to do some investigating on NHTSA’s website. I saw there was a recall issued for Ram 1500s models between 2013-2016 ( Recall VB9) so I contacted my nearest Chrysler dealer to obtain more information. I was told that my Vin is not related to the recall however, I feel like my vehicle should be included in this recall due to the fact that I am experiencing the same mechanical problems listed on the recall.
The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated that when attempting to make a left turn, the steering wheel spun back to center and then locked. The failure caused the vehicle to move into oncoming traffic. The contact was able to maneuver the steering wheel with an excessive amount of force and drive home. The sudden movement of the steering wheel was so severe it caused the contact to have severe swelling for a few days due to the steering wheel twisting and popping their wrist. There was no medical attention needed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the power steering had failed. The dealer confirmed that it was a known failure for the vehicle. The vehicle had not been repaired The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and opened a claim. The failure mileage was 166,000.

While driving and making a left turn, without any warning, the vehicles electrical power steering rack failed and seized. Once loss of power steering, wheel wanted to stay straight and almost caused accident by nearly colliding with another turning vehicle. In order to avoid collision, I turned the wheel as hard as I could, which resulted in needing new steering linkages as they bent trying to steer with the rack motor seized. Car had to be towed to nearest dealership for a $4,400 repair.
EPS system quit working and no power steering. Code С2217-00. It is available to be inspected. Currently being looked at by Tempe Ram service center in Az. System going out while driving can cause death’s and injury. No issues prior to lights and code and steering wheel stiffening. Also Intermittent cruise control issues with it not wanting to go into and out of cruise. Will not always come out of cruise control when cancelled with button. Previously took in for recall check and dealership said it did not meet recall criteria problem still persists.

My truck has 57,000 miles it's a 2014 ram 1500 and overnight the power steering unit failed. Replacement part from mopar is $2,100. Luckily I wasn't driving when this happened but there were no early signs of failure. Tried to go to work and couldn't drive the vehicle because the electric power steering unit had an internal software failure and is not driveable
Electronic Power Steering suddenly stopped working.
The electrical power steering has failed for seemingly no reason. Multiple people have reported this issue and it’s a very expensive repair
Electric power steering failure. Very common according to internet research and nothing has been done to recall this issue
The Power Steering (All electrical system) is intermittently failing and I believe is a huge safety issue. The dealerships claim my vehicle does not have a recall for such an issue, but when I google it seems to indicate that the Ram 2014 (13-19 models) were part of a recall for a potential issue with the electronic power steering (EPS) circuit card. which could lead to inconsistent steering and potentially a crash.
Hello, I went and got my truck service at a car dealership for rear air bag shock not working properly (4times) ; futhermore, my power steering went out while driving...not knowing the steering is electronic

I was driving the vehicle and all of a sudden lost power steering control and had a steering wheel with explanation point on dashboard. Later found that these 2014 Ram 1500 are notorious for losing the electronic power steering. No recall associated with my VIN number. Cannot get it to dealer or mechanic yet.
I am having an intermittent loss of power to the power steering system while driving, which makes it difficult to maneuver. After further research, the ECM is said to be the culprit.
Powersteering failure and can be inspected upon request When i drove up the road i had my heatead mirror turned on and when i turned on my highbeam i lost my powersteering and almost drove of the road when it was turning. As soon i turn off the heated mirriors the powersteering starts to work again. I can reproduce this failure multiple times and no warning lamps or messages luckely no accident occured

I have had the electronic power steering rack replaced twice. Now Dodge wants to put a 4th rack in a vehicle that only has 65k. I bought it used, but by all means it is a lemon, as it is NOT FIXABLE, and has not been safe to drive for two years. It has spent over 4 months in 3 different shops this year, and is still currently sitting at Dodge.
I was driving down the highway when my steering wheel locked up and a warning light lit up saying “service power steering”. Very scary and dangerous situation to be in during traffic hours and I was stranded for a few hours until a tow truck could come pick me up on the side of the highway. The truck was towed to the dealership and they informed me the problem was the Power steering rack, having to spend thousands since It’s not covered under warranty. As far as who’s inspected it is unknown due to it being at the dealer. There were no signs or symptoms prior to the incident.
Electric Power Steering (EPS) Failure and it is available for inspection. I was traveling 45 MPH in a 45 MPH zone on a curvy two land county road. Truck totally lost all electric power steering assist immediately without warning, when entering a sharp 90 degree turn. I experienced loss of control of truck, but thankfully I reacted properly and hit the brakes and there was no obstacles and other traffic. I ended up all over the road before ending up on shoulder of road. The problem is constant and was diagnosed with trouble code C2217-00 Electric Power Steering Module Internal. Vehicle has not been inspected by mfg, police or insurance or representatives. No warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the immediate failure of EPS. Warning was showing once I got vehicle stopped and looked at the dash. Incident happened on Sunday Sept 29, 2024, approximately 5PM.
The electronic power steering went out causing the steering wheel to stiffen. Thankfully, I was on a road without a lot of traffic. The vehicle was bought new, by me in 2014, and has never had any warning lights or symptoms for this issue, until it happened. It happened in May 2024 and has been sitting since, still with the same issue.

We had our vehicle serviced at the Olathe Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram service center between the dates of May 26, 2024 through June 27th, 2024 on 3 separate occasions due to following. Received truck back on June 17th with a blown air suspension after confirming that the air suspension was filled firm when brought the truck in due to an email received for a recall and when driving the vehicle, the power steering kicked in due to the battery terminal not being secured properly (confirmed by AAA technician). No vehicle lights were turned on during this. Returned truck on June 25th, 2024, received truck on June 26th, 2024 where diesel gas was spewing from my truck sitting idol in my driveway after driving it straight home from the service center. Returned on June 27th, 2024 at 7:00 AM CST after being told by the Dodge technicians that I should've drove the truck to them and that diesel has a burning point of over 1,000 degrees. They towed my truck to the shop after I refused. Received my truck at 2:30 PM EST the same day for my road trip that had been scheduled for 6 months. On July 6th, 2024, when driving my truck 4 of the 5 lug nuts broke off completely in which the tire flew off of my truck and caused a singular car accident and damage to my vehicle. We could've been seriously injured due to where we were on the road. I had additional injury to my lower back during the accident incident. We had the vehicle inspected by the California local police department as well as the licensed technician who confirmed that this was negligence by the service center who serviced my truck less than 2 weeks prior. I am in the process of filing a complaint with the General Attorney due to not receiving any response from Dodge regarding this matter.
The electric power steering quit, lucky I was in driveway. There is a recall for 2013 - 2019 for this problem VB9/NHTSA 19E-077. Took my truck in and the dealer said no recall on my truck. I have the problem this should be fixed under the recall!
The Rack and Pinion module has gone out. The steering on the vehicle completely stopped working while driving the vehicle on the interstate.
Complete loss of electric power steering.
My electric power steering is fixing to cause me to be in a major accident. This should not be happening as I have only had the vehicle two years now. I don't have the funds to fix it and it's my everyday driver. Dodge needs to fix this problem as it is a manufacturing default and it is on them. This has been happening for 19 months now
The electronic power steering (EPS) on my truck failed suddenly. Luckily, I was just in my driveway, but this could have led to a serious safety issue if I had been on the road at speed or pulling a trailer. After researching this I see that there have been some recalls regarding this issue for trucks produced in other years, but nothing for the 2014. It is a costly and potentially deadly issue that needs to be examined.

The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
On 9/6/24 at approx 12 noon, I was driving my 2014 Ram truck at 50 mph and had a total loss of steering control. A "service power steering" warning showed up on the dash, and I pulled off the road into my driveway. It appears that there is a recall for certain Rams: "Equipment Safety Recall VB9 -- Electric Power Steering Gear" but the serial number on my power steering rack is not listed. The number on my power steering rack is "TIC2123C4007". The truck will be taken to a mechanic on Monday 9/9/24 for inspection. The truck may be inspected upon request. I was driving straight when the power steering failed. If I had been in a curve, there is no way I could have controlled the vehicle. There was no indication of a problem before the total loss of power steering.
The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, he became aware that the electronic power steering was not functioning properly, requiring increased effort to maneuver the vehicle. The EPS warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed failures with the steering column assembly and electronic power steering control module. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V167000 (Steering); but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 220,000.

Power steering went out while driving and became real hard to steer luckily was in a straight away
Driving home from work and in a turn warning light came on dash "Service Power Steering" and the steering wheel became stiff and tool strength to control turn causing me to go into the opposite lane as I was turning. No slip I steering or warning before total loss of power steering.
The electronic power steering failed at random and almost caused me to wreck. I had to pay to tow my car home and now am looking at a $3000 repair on something that’s a known problem with these systems

The contact stated that the following day, the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with failed steering gear, and rack and pinion. The contact was informed that the steering gear, and rack and pinion needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was informed that the parts to complete the repair were on backorder. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 89,500.

My son was driving the truck when out of no where the power steering failed and he had to muscle the truck to the side of the road. After doing some research this is a common issue amongst other rams and so I contacted multiple dealerships within the area. Unfortunately they all said the same issue that happens on 2015+ trucks with the same steering system won’t apply to my truck.
While traveling on a highway at a speed of around 55 MPH, I experienced an abrupt and complete failure of the electronic power steering system in my 2014 Ram 1500. The steering wheel became extremely difficult to turn, and I lost the usual responsiveness and control I have come to expect from my vehicle. This sudden loss of steering assistance occurred without any prior warning signs, such as unusual noises, dashboard alerts, or steering resistance. It was a frightening experience that compromised my safety and the safety of others on the road. The failure of the EPS system at such a high speed created an urgent safety hazard. The difficulty in steering made it challenging to maintain lane control and respond effectively to road conditions. This not only increased the risk of a collision but also made the vehicle highly unstable and difficult to maneuver. Had there been a sudden need to change lanes or avoid an obstacle, the consequences could have been dire. In addition to the immediate safety concerns, the situation has been further aggravated by the unavailability of repair parts. After the incident, I promptly contacted several authorized dealerships and repair centers to address the EPS issue. I was informed that the necessary parts for the repair are currently unavailable on a national level. This unavailability of parts has left my vehicle inoperable and has resulted in significant inconvenience and frustration. The inability to procure repair parts not only delays the resolution of this critical issue but also raises questions about the reliability and longevity of the EPS system in this model. It is concerning that a critical component of the steering system, essential for safe vehicle operation, is not readily accessible for repair or replacement.
While driving the power steering stopped working. A red steering wheel light started flashing on the dash.
Was leaving work today and power steering quit working learned about this is a common issue after I finally made it home with no power steering
I entered the off-ramp slightly turning right from the Interstate when all of a sudden the power steering went out and I heard a dinging sound. The steering wheel jerked left and almost sent me over a 30 ft. drop into a lake. I was very fortunate only to do a 180 degree spin with no damage to my truck.Had I not slowed down more than usual due to the rain I would surely be at the bottom of that lake. After coming to a halt and facing oncoming traffic I found the power steering did’nt work at all and doing a 3 point turn is not happening because I have 33 inch mud tires on my truck so I inched my way back and forth until I was able to get back into moving traffic. On my way home with no power steering, the power steering light is constantly flashing and all of a sudden I hear another ding. The gas gauge on the instrument panel is now reading Empty when I filled up that morning and I have a flashing Fuel Sensor Fail warning. This issue with the Power Steering needs to be recalled/fixed immediately. This is ridiculous to see nothing has been done and is still being investigated 1 year later with all of the complaints specifically regarding the power steering are right in front of you.
a grinding sound occurs while turning the vehicle. after checking there appears to be a power steering recall for the same power steering motor - just for other years but not for the 2014 model. apparently once the unit fails the vehicle will be steerable but it will be more difficult. if this is a common problem, as it appears to be, a recall would be welcome.
While driving at 50mph power steering went completely out, could not control truck, had I been on a busy street with traffic there would have been an accident. Dealer (over the phone) said this is common with this truck and the electronic power steering system needs to be replaced. Warning light of (Steering wheel/exclamation mark) SERVICE POWER STEERING.
Driving on the highway, the car loses steering and gets real stiff then over corrects causing vehicle to swerve. It's a know problen for these years and models of the RAM. It's the EPS that fails intermittenly. They said it's vin specific but I strongly disagree. I have no light stating there is an issue on the dashboard. That seems lie a big safety hazard. System doesn't know there's a problem.
Hi, this is regarding your open investigation #RQ23003 so as to add my car to the number of complaints. It happened on 07/20/24 while my wife was on her way back from grocery shopping. On her way out of parking lot, the warning sign showed up and the power steering had failed suddenly. Even though she did not get into an accident, it was very dangerous and nearly impossible for a women to steer out of situation. Currently, the car is immobilized and waiting to be looked at. FYI, this car has only 60000 miles in odometer and immaculately maintained. I hope you look into this issue. Thank you.
When stopping at traffic light steering wheel of 2014 Ram 1500 4 door truck wheel very difficult to turn wheel. Diagnosed at Cutter Dealer in Honolulu, code shows rack and pinion but dealer said no recall on this vehicle.
The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the "Service Power Steering" message was displayed with the power steering assist feature inoperable. Due to the failure, excessive force was needed to steer the vehicle while driving back to the residence. The contact notified the dealer of the failure and was informed that there were no recalls on the VIN. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic where a diagnostic test was performed. The mechanic discovered that the steering rack and pinion was defective and needed to be replaced. Upon investigation, the contact discovered an ongoing investigation NHTSA Action Number: RQ23003 (Steering) which the contact linked to the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 114,000.
Mileage: 114,000
The EPS (Electronic Power Steering) failed suddenly, causing the steering wheel to become extremely difficult to turn. The truck would not turn easily creating an unsafe vehicle while driving. A warning lamp turned on only when the power steering failed. The vehicle has not been driven or inspected since the power steering has failed. The two part numbers on the EPS housing are #P68230030AC & #TIC0684C4049
My steering module sometimes works and sometimes does not. I’ll go from having power steering to steering going completely manually and other times almost locking up. During turns I have almost gone into the ditch if the steering module stopped working mid turn.
Steering was fine, then got very tight while driving. Got home turned off truck and let it sit for a while. When I went to drive it again everything was fine. Now it goes in and out from time to time.
I was on my way to work and all of a sudden I lost all power steering almost causing me to get in a head on collision
Complete failure of electric steering. Vehicle towed to garage for repairs
Electronic Power Steering failure 67000 miles. Ram dealer has confirmed the steering module is no longer working. No inspection other than dealer. Only warning was on failure.
Power steering suddenly went out while driving luckily I wasn't on the freeway or in the middle of turning. I had my young daughters in the truck. Service power steering like came on after I lost all power steering. No recalls but Ram has many complaints for this issue. got quoted as the Ram dealer $3100 for just the parts and another $700 for labor for the rack and pinion. Parts on back order so I will be without my truck for over a week with no other means of transportation. I only have 68,000 miles on this truck. Unbelievable that this isn't a recall and Ram isn't covering it. Someone is gonna get seriously injured. VB9/ NHTSA 19E-007 Electronic Power Steering Gear.
Steering stopped working. There was no accident. Replaced it, but new part still has intermittent steering. No inspection, no warning lights, messages or symptoms before it failed.
Codes c2209-49, c2200-47, u0121, u11bc, u1110, u1412. ABS, traction control, brake and CEL iluminated. No speedometer and no power steering. Codes will not clear. All wheelspeed sensors are operational per scantool in live data mode. Issue not confermed by dealer or independant as the cost is outrageous. And i cannot find a recall to repair issue. These issues i have had since March 2024. Cost for me to repair would be approximately $1200. Safety systems like these should not need a recall they’ve had years to resolve issues with ABS problems. I’m hoping that Mopar sees these issues with other people and has a recall on the problem. My wife won’t even drive the truck.
Electonic Power Steering failed. Unable to steer vehicle. After starting vehicle, steering felt locked. Had vehicle towed to independent service center. Initially did not fail with independent service center however, with second attempt by independent service center, it did fail. Therefore, problem is intermittent. Independent service center's diagnostic test found it to be a recall issue, 19E-077, and we were advised to go to dealership. Vehicle was towed to Firkins dealership. Through dealership and multiple calls to FCA and NHTSA claims no recall advisories and no such recall number found. FYI, we have had two other unrelated recalls that the FCA had no record of. Dealership did tell us they have had 7 of these steering issues in the last year. The EPS warning did appear on dashboard.
The Electric Power Steering failed while I was driving on the highway. I had to drive with a stiff steering wheel all the way home. It was a hazard to me and other drivers on the road. This problem has been reported by multiple other Ram owners. There was a warning signal when the EPS failed.
i was driving down the road and the power steering just went out. No warning at all that this was about to happen. I was VERY lucky I was driving on a straight road. If I was in a turn I would have been off the road without a doubt.
Driving my 2014 Ram 1500 SLT (approx 95000mi) truck home from work and the electronic power steering just stopped working. Had a very difficult time trying to navigate home on the highway. Upon self inspection I determined the power steering rack went bad from water intrusion because of a faulty rubber boot that you cant readily see with a slit in it. And also blew the fuse mounted to the battery. These steering racks are in short supply for some unkown reason, are difficult to find, and ungoldy expensive. I ordered the new parts and did the install myself to save money but it was still $2200+ for someting that should be an absolute safety issue or recall. The electronics are supposedly coated in a water proofing compound. I returned the junk part to the origin of purchase (Rock Auto) to get my petty $75 core charge back. I am only submitting this because I believe it is an extreme safety hazzard on such an important component of a vehicle. After whole replacement with expensive current revisioned parts I now have a functioning vehicle again.
Power steering failed. Luckily it failed while I was driving, had my wife been driving she would not have been able to steer it. Truck is almost impossible to steer with the power assist failed. It is at the dealer now. EPS failure
The power steering intermittently goes out and locks up the steering wheel. Almost wrecked leaving a gas station had to pull over and disconnect battery terminals to reset it and it finally started back working. Drove home and turned the truck off, when I turned it back on it was locked up again with the error flashing on the cluster. It started doing this May 17, 2024. Haven’t drove vehicle since then.
I have experienced power steering loss intermittently in this vehicle for the past two years. It occurs at unexpected times during both local and interstate travel. The unexpected loss of power steering creates problems because the vehicle suddenly becomes very difficult to steer. This has caused several near crashes due to making turns and lane changes.
Complete loss of power steering. The vehicle was driven then shut off. When the vehicle was restarted, there was no power steering. The steering is so hard to turn that the truck is not drivable. This would be a serious safety concern if the steering were to stop functioning while driving.
The steering is hard (like no power steering) when at a slow speed or at start from stop. Steering is not as tight/hard when at a normal speed. The ease of steering changes mid turn.
Electric steering system
Power steering is intermittently not functioning while driving. There is a open recall for other year Ram 1500's with the exact same power steering module and set up. This needs to be recalled before someone else is killed.
The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated that on several occasions while driving at various speeds, the steering wheel became very stiff and failed respond as intended. The vehicle was taken to the residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 92,000.
Mileage: 92,000
STEERING WHEEL SERVICE LIGHT ON CAN NOT STEER WHILE FIRST STARTING FOR 5 MINUTES THEN IT SHUTS OFF
Electric power assist steering failure. I started to notice that the effort to turn the became much more difficult, over the period of two weeks I have noticed the power assist is basically nonexistent. It is a dangerous situation and quite expensive. The truck should be recalled for this issue, and currently has 98,000 miles.
While driving the vehicle the power steering failed making the vehicle very hard to steer. This is a major safety issue. With the inability to steer my life and the lives of the passengers in my vehicle and others on the road were put at risk. This is an ongoing problem that needs to be addressed by RAM.
Vehicle was sitting in garage. Started vehicle and dash warning for power steering illuminated and no power steering is available.
The power steering completely failed. Yes! It is available for inspection! If this had occurred during highway speeds (80 mph here) ... OMG! No, the vehicle is not drivable (no steering) so it has not been inspected by anyone but me. The vehicle was fine the day before. This apparently happened while it was turned off overnight. The red steering wheel with the exclamation point is flashing and it cannot be steered at all.
The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving at approximately 60 MPH, the steering wheel seized. The contact was able to pull to the shoulder of the roadway. The Service Power Steering System warning light was illuminated. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle, and the power steering functionality returned; however, the failure recurred when the contact arrived at the residence. The vehicle was hauled to the local dealer; where it was diagnosed that there was rodent damage on the wiring of the steering rack, and the Power Steering rack needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 125,077.
Mileage: 125,077
Turned on vehicle and had complete loss of power steering. No previous issues of this. Unable to get power steering to reset or return to vehicle.
Power steering assist quit working while on the interstate. The steering wheel was extremely hard to turn and indicator light came on. The light was a red steering wheel with red exclamation next to it. I was able to safely pull over. I shut the truck off and looked to see if any fluid was leaking. Did not see any indication of fluid loss. Restarted the truck and steering worked normal. The same thing happened just as I was entering my driveway. I restarted the vehicle multiple times after that, and the red steering wheel indicator flashes immediately. Power steering has been completely lost. This all happened in the same day. I am very thankful that I was driving in a straight line at the moment of steering loss. I am not sure I would have been to avoid an accident if I were on a turn during that moment.
The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle experienced a loss of power steering assist. The EPS warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the rack and pinion needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 118,000.

Truck's power steering goes out, I have to restart truck a few times for it to work again. Service Power steering comes on when it's not working. It has not gone out while driving but I am fearful that it will.
Started off with intermittent power steering failure which has now led into complete power steering failure
I was driving down the highway and all of a sudden my power steering went out and the truck jerked, nearly causing me to roll the vehicle. I managed to get it wheel straight enough that I did not wreck. Never been more scared in my life. I got off the highway near a local shop and the mechanic says this is an on going problem with the rack and pinions in my make and model year truck.
Intermittent power steering. Works great then all of a sudden have no steering, then a minute later it’s back working. Other times it is very choppy steering.
While entering the on ramp to the Interstate the electronic power steering failed without warning. It was raining and I narrowly avoided crashing. My mechanic inspected the truck and gave an estimate for repairs, saying he's seen this failure in one other similar truck.
The power steering on my 2014 Ram 1500 seems to be not working at times. The steering can be hard to turn at times and is happening more frequently. I did some research and there have been recalls on this issue but not the 2014 model year. I feel this is an accident waiting to happen as i need my vehicle every day and cannot afford the price tag to make this repair. i have seen on social media that many other have this same problem and something needs to be done about it.
Power steering went out on my truck
Power steering failed
The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving 60–65 MPH, the power steering became inoperable. The steering wheel was difficult to turn off the road. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact called the local dealer, and an appointment was scheduled. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V167000 (Steering). The failure mileage was approximately 102,795.
Mileage: 102,795
In 2021, my power steering module failed and was inoperable. The power steering module was replaced and now, less than 3x years and < 20,000 miles the power steering module is failing again. In 2021, the power steering failed instantly, without warning. It was almost impossible to steer the car without 'hanging' on the steering wheel as the steering wheel was 'fighting' the driver's input. In 2024, the power steering is failing intermittently. Sometimes turning the steering wheel is easy and tires are responsive, other times the steering wheel appears to 'catch' and resist/fight the driver and then respond sporadically, making steering difficult to predict.
Electric Power Steering has stopped working. The vehicle is very difficult to turn and return to straight. NO warning lamps or service lights appear.
The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the power steering was inoperable. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle to regain power steering functionality. The vehicle was driven to the residence. The contact who is an independent mechanic, diagnosed the vehicle with a failed EPS rack and pinion. The contact stated that the EPS rack and pinion needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.

I was driving my 2014 ram in a 25 mph residential area, and went to turn right and wound up hitting the curb on the other side of the street because my truck would not make the full turn. I continued to drive and test the left and right turn, and it refused to turn on either side. There were no warning lights, and no codes were found when tested. I am infuriated that this is not considered recall material. It is extremely dangerous to the driver and anyone else in it's path. I am fortunate enough to not have been driving to work at 60mph. I had been loyal to dodge for years, but that is a thing of the past. I am in the process of buying another vehicle at a very inopportune time.
Our truck kept coming up with check engine, ABS and traction control lights. Come to find out, it is the ABS Module Control that needs to be replaced. In doing research, I have found that there have been numerous complaints on this same issue for years. At what point does it become neglect on Dodge? There have been accidents yet they're continuing to ignore this situation and it's allowed???
Steering stopped working and has error code. Tried resetting and such and still not working
My steering wheel felt like it was stuck and had to force it left or right to change lanes on the expressway at 75 miles per hour. The electric power steering rack is no longer working and it will not turn the wheels. It is still on the vehicle at this time. I could have lost all steering on the highway causing a collision. It has not been looked at by a dealer or independent shop yet. There were no lights or warnings before the incident however the next time I was going to drive the truck the steering wheel wouldn't move and I got a "Service Power Steering" message on the dash.
On 1.28.2024 my 2014 Dodge Ram 1500 R/T lost power steering twice making it nearly impossible to safely steer
Approximately two weeks ago I was driving the truck and exiting off the interstate and at the end of the ramp intended to turn left as I had a green light. As I slowed to safely turn I lost all power steering assistance and ended up jumping the curb and leaving the roadway. Thank God I didn’t hit anyone or damage any property. I was able to fight the steering wheel to make it home. I checked the power steering fluid level and condition of fluid for possible contaminants but found no issue. I remember a recall issued for 2015-2016 Rams for power steering failures. I believe the issue is much wider than initially thought. I have not gotten an estimate on the repairs.

Parked vehicle was fine, next day started truck to back out took both hands to turn wheel. Shut , restarted -no difference . Poage dealer Hannibal mo said 2-3 month back order and questionable. Used old part #, got part weeks later $2413.23 part replaced.
My wife and I were leaving my daughters house Christmas Day when I started my 2014 Ram pickup and it felt like a locked steering column was locked. Shut it off and restarted it but it didn’t respond. I had it towed the next day to the dealer that services my vehicle and the steering control module shorted out which meant the whole steering system has to be replaced at a cost of $3700.00. Plus 3 weeks to get the part. The only good thing is we weren’t driving when it happened. As it turns out no recalls for what I consider a very dangerous condition with absolutely no prior warning. Researched and found out it’s happened to many others while they were driving, but no deaths so Ram doesn’t consider it recall worthy, so how many consumers have to die or get seriously hurt? It has 26540 miles!
Was driving one day while towing a trailer and all of a sudden while making a left turn the power steering went out which caused me to hit an embarkment and damage the front bumper area of my vehicle. My safety was put at risk because of the damage it caused and how difficult the steering became all of a sudden without warning or anything. There weren't any warning prior to the power steering going out, but as soon as it went out a symbol appeared on the dashboard. This was the first time that I have ever seen that symbol. Vehicle hasn't been inspected by anybody other than myself. Checked for recalls and saw that my 2014 wasn't included.
The electronic power steering system started to fail on its own. There was no real reason for this problem. There is full power to system and no blown fuses. It is a gamble as to when the system decides when it wants to work.
Electronic power steering was intermittently failing, but is now fully inoperable. Steering is hard and the electronic power steering light is flashing on the dash.
The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving at 50–60 MPH, the steering wheel seized. The contact depressed the brake pedal and slowly drove into the ditch. There were no warning lights illuminated. There were no reported injuries. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the vehicle was not under recall. The failure mileage was approximately 121,000.

My electric steering went out while driving almost causing an accident and the whole unit has to be replaced and it’s around $2900. I’m filing a complaint because I notice online I’m not the only one having this issue that millions of people have had this problem and no recall for my truck to fix this issue. I just had an engine and going to have the power steering put in when it comes in. I had to replace the motor due to the lifters and the mds tearing up my motor. Thank you, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
I was driving truck and was taking a right turn and the steering locked up and I almost smashed into car. I stopped truck and backed up and put onto drive and it took all my strength to turn the wheel to the right. Had truck towed and found out that the electronic steering went bad. This problem needs to be looked at because someone is going to get hurt or killed if the steering goes out at higher speeds
While driving during a cold spell. Power steering just went out while negotiating a curve. With the sudden loss of power steering vehicle was partially pulled from the roadway. After stopping and regrouping noticed there is red steering wheel warning light on the cluster. In warm weather there is no issue seems. Only happens in colder weather.

your letter says I can review my report but couldn't find it NHTSA JD#11531515 SO On JULY 7th I started up my truck put it in reverse and had no power steering shut it off and restart still the same could not turn the wheel. I checked the internet someone said check the 2 fuses by battery they were good. had towed on Monday 7-10-23 to Fayetteville dodge they checked it out said I needed a new elect. power rack. they ordered and it took 3 weeks at a total cost $5172.23 out of my pocket. I have pict. of old rack numbers P68230029AA TIC1713C5058 made in LUNGT AN TAIWAN 04301477146714 & 77053805480546 also all paper from dealer with numbers of new rack 68536637AB GEAR RACK and PINION THANK YOU FOR THE WORK YOU DO
While driving on a busy winding surface street, as I was accelerating from a stop at a traffic light, I received an audible notification chime, accompanied by a red power steering warning light, and a message in the message center to "Service Power Steering." My steering wheel immediately became exceptionally difficult/heavy to turn. I was able to overpower the resistance and maintain vehicle control, but needed to drive much slower than posted speed limits and the flow of traffic to maintain directional control. I was able to drive to a safe location and stop. This is the first instance of this occurring in my vehicle. After stopping, I was able to inspect all fuses and electrical connections and verified that they were all in working order. I am grateful that this occurred while I was driving, and not my wife or daughter, and that it did not occur at a high rate of speed. Otherwise, the situation could have turned disastrous. After one day of leaving the vehicle alone, I started it, and the steering worked normally. However, within a few moments, the same indications repeated, including the chime, warning lights, and high resistance to turning the wheel. I am taking the vehicle into a service center within days.
Power steering is failing. Only doing it intermittently as of now flashing red steering wheel appears for a minute when it first started and goes away and steering is restored took it to dealer and the parts seem to be not readily available and quoted me 3000+ dollars for parts And $1100 for labor and said the whole power steering rack has to be replaced. Could go out completely soon and dealer part not available or aftermarket
Power steering does not work . Red steering wheel symbol on dash board. scan for codes has code c212a-84 sytem voltage .Code c2217-00 Ekectric poer steering module internal shorted. There Are to many parts on order for Ram truck no to know there are problems .THank you
I was driving at 45mph, and the steering wheel locked completed it was extremely dangerous and I almost crash. I am wondering if there any recall. Pissed costumer.
mild crash! my Ram 1500 pickup trucks can lose power-steering with no warning. I could NOT turn!
Power steering wheel it not working extremely difficult to steer!
Could not drive back home, it got extremely dangerous when it locked it. my steering wheel does not steer. there are lights on my dashboard. EPS AND ENGINE
Purchased this vehicle new in 2014- after driving it today for about 20 miles it was parked for about two hours at work when I went to leave I noticed that my power steering wasn't working & a message came up on the dash board "Service Power Steering"- Never experienced this problem before or had any warning that something was wrong. Vehicle was almost impossible to turn, fortunately I was only about six miles from home. Very Scary
I was driving 60mph and my power steering wheel stop working and a light on dashboard from steering power wheel came on, I could not steer, it was really difficult and dangerous to drive though traffic it was almost impossible to turn the vehicle. I am reading a recall for my car This recall applies to 2013-2019 Ram 1500 trucks equipped with electronic power steering (EPS). Some EPS gear assemblies may have been built with a contaminated circuit card assembly that may short circuit. A short in the control circuit components may result in an intermittent loss of power steering assist.
The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The vehicle contact stated while starting the vehicle, the power steering warning light illuminated and the vehicle lost power steering functionality. The contact stated that upon restarting the vehicle later in the day, the power steering was operable. The contact stated that the failure had been recurring increasingly. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the electric power steering (EPS) gear needed to be replaced, and the contact was informed that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19E077000 (Steering); however, the part was not available. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 78,500.
Mileage: 78,500
While parking, the steering locked up. I was unable to turn the steering wheel or the wheels. A mechanic later confirmed the electronic power steering rack and pinion component failed.
The Power Steering went out on my 2014 RAM 1500 at approximately 98,000 miles. The first time this happened, while I was driving at low speeds, the steering wheel would intermittently lock up. I couldn't turn the steering wheel, intermittently. I brought the truck to the RAM dealer for repair. They replaced my Rack & Pinion for $4,000. The second time this happened, slightly less than 1,000 miles after the Rack & Pinion replacement, I couldn't turn the steering wheel at all. Fortunately, I was on my driveway. I had the truck towed to the RAM dealer for warranty repair. If I had been driving and the steering completely locked up, it could have been fatal.
Steering is not safely operable at all You cannot steal the vehicle if you lose your power steering which is electronically controlled some of these units were recalled and they're used on several thousand trucks with this electrical system and you can't get the parts because there's so many being repaired. It's a very expensive part and if steering goes out while you're towing a camper or my case a tractor it could be very dangerous you could put your family at risk and your life at risk and others at risk. This is an ongoing problem with these trucks and it should be addressed and has been somewhat by the manufacturer for just a couple of years for some kind of contamination but it needs to be included on all these models from 13 to 19 if you study you'll see that there is several thousand trucks with steering issues that completely with no notice stop working. It's a very dangerous situation and I think they should recall it and replace it I did have to order a part it's $2,000 plus labor The dealer ship cannot get the part I had to get it from another supplier.
Driving in town, received a "Service Power Steering" light and message, lost power steering. Very difficult to steer afterwards.
On Saturday Sept. 23, 2023 I was driving about 25-30 MPH and the power steering went out. I took the truck to the dealership immediately that day for diagnostics. They said the Power steering rack failed (part #68628858AA) and the part is not available. They said it is on backorder until January 2024 or possibly longer. I picked up the truck that Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2023 to sit in the drive until further notice. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. My safety and others were put at risk when driving and the power steering went out without notice. I was unable to steer the vehicle in a timely manner, or if I needed to swerve quickly would not have been able to do that. As of right now the vehicle has only been inspected by the dealership. Prior to the steering going out, There was also ABS brake warning light which I had looked at by an independent service center on Aug. 17th, 2023 who determined that I needed a new ABS brake module replace (part #68228991AD).
Second time in 1 year my power steering has stopped working without warning. Hopefully it will start working again out of nowhere like last time but no guarantee. Luckily I have strong arms but someone older or compromised would not be able to drive this truck. This was a recall however my 2014 was not included in it which is ridiculous because it definitely has the electrical issue stated in the recall pertaining to this issue. Please address as this can be very dangerous for people.
Truck has hardly ever been driven,, at 2,602mi smelled plastic burning for about 5 seconds when first cranked up,, this happened 2 different times, then no power steering,, warning light came on ,, been PARKED,, after researching the problem of CONTAMINATION OF THE EPS MODULE,, called MY RAM DEALER won't give me an app. for 2 months to check it out,, THEY KNOW WHAT IT IS,, TY RAM
Our power steering comes and goes without warning. We did have zubek Tawas motors look at it , they say need to replace the steering assembly cost $2500, as the power steering pump is intragateed and not a solo unit, we researched and saw that we are not the only one having this problem
Steering intermittently stops working, especially when navigating turns. The steering gets stuck in the turned position. Definitely very dangerous. If I hadn't slammed on the brakes, I would have been in the woods. The power steering warning light came on, but went off when vehicle was restarted. Yet the problem persists.
Electronic Power Steering failure. Lost while driving.
The vehicle power steering stopped working without warning making the vehicle very difficult to steer if at all steerable. The power steering warning light on the dash came on at the same time the issue began. This made the vehicle very dangerous to drive. Luckily I was driving on a straight and not in the middle of a curve or it would have been difficult to stay in the lane I was in. I have tried to get a service advisor at the dealership close to my home and have left messages but have not been contacted nor do they return my calls.
EPS Rack and pinion failure, While driving home my steering lost all power steering, luckily I was abilie to keep it on the road and slow down to pull off the road way if i were at highway speeds I don't believe i would have been able to keep from having an accident where i had to have it towed back to my house because it was undrivable and im glad my wife was not driving at the time because she would not have been abilie to safe it from have an accident. the truck is Available for inspection YES Mine and my Family safety was both put at risk do to almost have an accident running off the road The truck has not been inspected There where NO warning lights or other messages, the only appeared after the Near accident a small red steering wheel flash on the dash and a EPS Steering message in the display.
Loss of power steering randomly while driving and very hard to turn vehicle. Very dangerous and risks safety of myself and others because steering wheel locks up and does not want to turn while driving. I don’t feel safe driving it like this. Local shop said it is the electric power steering issue. No warning lights.
The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving approximately 25 MPH, the vehicle lost power steering functionality, requiring excessive force while maneuvering the vehicle. The contact stated that a red steering symbol with an exclamation point was displayed on the instrument cluster. The vehicle had now become inoperable. The contact had not taken the vehicle to the dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.
Mileage: 120,000
I have a intermittent loss of power steering causing the vehicle to be very difficult to turn. Doesn’t feel safe to drive the vehicle. I checked the number on powersteering gear and it doesn’t match the numbers listed on the equipment safety recall vb9 put out by fca. The symptoms are identical to the one listed in the current safety recall.
Rolled over a small pothole, my speed was 3-5 mp. I lost steering. I had a mechanic checked the system, it had a c2217 code. Which is an internal steering module
While driving the steering all of a sudden became almost impossible to turn. Upon pulling vehicle over an shutting down and restarting the truck, it was ok, but then did the same thing the next day, then an entire week there after intermittently. I have taken it locally to be looked at by the RAM dealer near me. Laurel Chrysler RAM in Johnstown Pennsylvania. I do not feel safe driving this vehicle.
My wife has been complaining that the steering gets stiff and unresponsive sometimes.
The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the steering wheel became stiff and difficult to maneuver. The contact stated that the vehicle inadvertently decelerated while the accelerator pedal was depressed. The power steering assist warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the steering rack and pinion failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to parts not being available. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 63,000.
Mileage: 63,000
The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated that after restarting the vehicle, the message “Power Steering Failure” was displayed, and the steering wheel was very difficult to turn in either direction. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the steering rack was faulty and needed to be replaced; however, the parts needed to repair the vehicle were on backorder. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 74,650.
Mileage: 74,650
The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving 40 MPH and driving to the left, the vehicle lost power steering functionality. The power steering assist fault message was displayed. The contact manually steered the vehicle using excessive force. The contact drove to a location and was able to pull over and restart the vehicle however, the failure persisted. The following day while pulling out of the driveway, the failure recurred after several minutes. The contact called the Mopar Hotline and was informed that the VIN was not included in the NHTSA Campaign Number: 10148569 (Steering) and 10149005 (Steering). The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 144,000.
Mileage: 144,000
For the past year or so, the power steering will cut out requiring significantly increased effort. This seems to be random and comes and goes. Recently it has become more frequent including today when I was turning at an intersection, This appears to be an issue with this generation of Ram trucks so I felt I should report it.
Without warning power steering goes in and out. Sometimes it works just fine other times it has happened while driving on the highway. Sometimes will start with power steering already not working.
Was driving to gym and power steering rack that everyone else is having issues with went out while driving. I was able to muscle my truck off the highway and into the parking lot of the gym. From there it was towed to a auto repair shop and quoted almost $4,000 to fix. I was able to get the part and fix it for $2,700. The part only was $2,435. We need paid back from Mopar. This is not right so many people are having the same issue. Thank you.
Power Steering Failed all of a sudden while riding around 40mph. put myself and others in danger. Unable to turn without puttting alot of strength into it. No warning lamps or messages about power steering.
I am currently experiencing intermittent power steering failure, my 2014 Ram 1500 only has about 80k miles on the clock as I barely drive it. About 3 months ago I noticed heavy/slow steering, not totally failure, but more stiff than usual. About a month following that, I noticed intermittent steering loss, luckily I noticed the problem early and was able to respond accordingly. However, due to the steering being intermittent, it is unsafe to continue using the vehicle for the time being as there is no way to know when it will cut in and out meaning the vehicle can act unpredictably. Thankfully I have another vehicle to use, but looking at the repairs, it would probably cost me close to 2000 dollars and I would rather not pay for something that expensive unnecessarily.
While driving, the power steering stop functioning. There was no accident however, it functioning properly in traffic.
Truck with under 60k miles. Experienced intermitent to full power steering loss. Truck would get really hard to steer at all speeds, especially in banking curves. Would also oversteer while making 90° turns, like it had a sticky steering wheel - that did not want to return to position. My mechanic said the electronic power steering was shot and since it was a part of the rack and pinion, the entire rack needed replaced. Turns out the part is recalled on 15'-19' models, but not my '14. Although it seems to be a known issue. Dodge said to me and my mechinic seperately, that due to scarcity the part was not available, and if it was it would be $2,500 for the part alone. Dodge corporate told me that it needed to be looked at by one of their service centers. The local dodge svc center told me, that unless I showed that I did prior work at the dealership, Dodge would do nothing for me, not to waste my time or $$ on a 2nd diag. A third shop was able to find a remanufatured rack and pinion and installed it for $1880.96...and still I worry the issue will arise again. The reman part has a 3yr warranty - a part, I am told should have lasted the life of the vehicle. Although the repair was done the past couple of weeks, I have no idea if the shop disposed of it or not. The part put me at risk as it would all of a sudden stop working, while driving. The problem was reproduced and identified by 2 serperate independent service centers. No lights came on my dash. While it could have, it did not cause accident or injury, but it did put my work truck out of commision for a while.
While driving the steering completely failed and the vehicle was extremely hard to turn. I managed to slow the vehicle without incident and drove the vehicle very slowly home. I see there is an investigation into this and I'd like to add my testimony.
The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving 20 MPH, the vehicle lost power steering functionality and the steering wheel became firm. The contact was able to drive to the residence and shifted to park(P). The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle, and the check engine and steering warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 115,000.
Mileage: 115,000
Driving down the the highway of Creedmoor Road in Raleigh, NC, I had a sudden loss of power steering and hit a guard rail. Luckily, the only damage was to the front bumper. I took the vehicle into my local garage and they said that the power steering is Electronically controlled by the Rack and Pinion and that it had failed. The parts are nearly $3,000. My truck only has 80k miles on it. Looking throughout various forums, it seems that this is happening to many others as well with various amounts of miles. Until right now, my truck still has no power steering and is undriveable. The part is not available for purchase. This is a very dangerous situation. Had it been my wife driving, she would not have been able to control the steering as the v8 weighing on the front wheels makes it difficult to turn at all.
intermittent power stering loss. steering light on dash would come on and power steering would stop working. Had to manhandle the steering. Thank goodness no accident.7 Dealer replaced gear rack. 8/1/2023 Cost $3600. to have power stering replaced.
Driving through Vermont from New Hampshire ,we took a winding road to get off the highway and going through a corner the trucks power steering locked up and i had to slow down and muscle it to the side of the road, scared the hell out of me. We went back to the highway, straight roads to get back home. It is at a dealer waiting for the parts, it has cost me a new battery so far, was checked the day before at Valvoline 13.5 volts. I am not liking the $ 4,000.00 + figure to fix it.
The power steering went out while I was driving on the highway At posted speed limit. I was unable to freely steer and navigating through traffic became extremely dangerous. I’ve taken it to two mechanics and they said the rack and pinion needs to be replaced due to the component being part of the steering mechanism. No warning lights came on prior to me driving. The warning light came on while I was driving as soon as the powering steering went out.
When I start the engine, the steering wheel icon comes on. It says service power steering. There's no power to turn the steering wheel. After the engine runs and I turn off the engine and start it again, the icon doesn't come on and I now have steering power. This happened 3 times. I currently have the truck in the shop to be serviced. The amount is $4500. I need to know if this is a recall issue. I don't have this amount to spend on this concern. Althea Smith
Power steering failure. Electronic power steering rack failed while driving. Caused vehicle to go off road. Was able to avoid hitting anything but was only lucky.
My truck has 87,000 miles. 1st my engine went out last month because of a known engine issue that Dodge is not owning up to on Hemi engines. 3 weeks later after replacing the engine my Power steering went out as I was driving causing it to be very hard to drive. These are both known issues with these trucks that recalls should in place for. I have spent close to $14,000 in one month fixing these issues Dodge should be paying for on a truck with only 87,000 miles.
Complete loss of steering assist (electric power steering). A large number of vehicles experienced the same issue, but the dealer advised that there was not a factory recall. There were so many failures that aftermarket rebuilds were not available, as only hard parts were replaced during rebuilding. Circuit board failures were not repairable. I paid a RAM dealer over $4200 for repairs, and had to wait 2 months for parts, because so many had previously failed. I would like to see NTSB force a recall, and I would like to recover my repair cost, as the RAM factory is clearly responsible.
Loss of powersteering assist on start up. Also loss of steering assist while driving down the road. Has even had no power assist when ambient temp under 32 F degrees out side.
While on vacation in Canada, power steering went out. It came back once for less than a mile and went out again. I was told the remanufactured parts were on back order. Once I got the truck back to Missouri I was quoted $3440 for the part. I found it online from a dealer in McKinney Texas and repaired it myself for $1878. Several times as we limped the truck back to Missouri, my friend would have to help turn the wheel as we pulled into and out of tight turns.....going through towns, gas stations, etc. I do my own work on all my vehicles, so it was never looked at by my dealer. I ordered the parts from a Dodge dealer in McKinney Texas and repaired it myself. I had read people were having issues with intermittent steering. This was the first time for me. We pulled into the lodge, in Canada, to get a bag of ice. When my friend returned to the truck, I actually thought it had shut off because I couldn't turn the steering wheel to leave. Got it to the cabin and checked the fuse at the battery and all the wiring down to the EPS. Unhooked the battery and made sure all the connections were clean and when we put it back together the steering came back. Shut the truck off and later on when we went to leave the steering was out of it again.
The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving 20 MPH, the steering wheel became stiff. No warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to drive to an independent mechanic. The independent mechanic was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The dealer had been made aware of the failure and the contact was informed that the vehicle was not included in a recall. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 130,200.

Steering assist light on dash blinks for two to three minutes at engine start. Steering wheel locked up. After a few minutes light goes out, steering works fine. This occurs every start up since fall 2022. Larry Miller dodge Tucson confirmed.
My power steering suddenly stopped working while driving. Turned truck off and back on. Power steering was back. Started truck up the next day and power steering is completely off. I've read this is a consistent issue with 2014 ram 1500 trucks. Please get this fixed. It's extremely dangerous while driving
The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated while parking the vehicle, the contact became aware that the power steering had failed. Additionally, the power steering warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who was unable to repair the vehicle. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer, who informed the contact that the power steering module had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Action Number: RQ23003 (Steering). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 104,000.
Mileage: 104,000
At speeds over 65 mph the truck vibrates violently. We have had it to 3 different repairs places, new tire’s balanced, new front parts and it still vibrates.
Steering Rack Failure. Started inttermittenly then became undriveable.
Power Steering went out while exiting on high way. Steering went out and it was extremely hard to exit going 65mph. I have called every to find a new power steering and they are on back order.
Power Steering seems to go in and out. This results in a loss of control of the vehicle.
Electric Power steering rack failed unexpectedly. Drove the truck to work in the morning and it was fine. Went to leave for home at the end of the day and it wasn't working. Dealer said it was bad and needed replaced and wanted $4000 to repair. The next day it suddenly started working, pulling out of parking spot at work, and almost hit a car next to me.
The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving approximately 55 MPH and towing a light RV trailer, the power steering failed. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact pulled off the road and turned off and restarted the vehicle; however, the vehicle failed to regain steering functionality. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent. The contact had taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 118,000.

Steering locked up and had to replace Steering Rack. Found out many models have had same issue with SAME PART. This should also have been part of any recall due to the nature and severity of this failure. Part was hard to find due to the nature of this issue and many have been replaced This issue could have caused a severe if not deadly accident if component would have failed while driving
On two occasions the power steering stopped working and I had to physically control the truck and control the direction it was headed. The first time I was headed home and had to muscle the steering to get home. The second time as I was headed up the driveway to leave to go to the doctor's office the steering got hard to move so I parked the truck and took my other vehicle. When the power steering stops working a warning light displays on the control panel. I found on the internet that this issue is a known issue by the manufacture since at least 2021. It states that the EPS (electric power steering) module is at fault. I found out today that the module is located inside the rack and pinion. It is now July 17, 2023, and this problem caught me completely by surprise. I am currently trying to locate a rack and pinion for my vehicle with an estimated date of August 7, 2023 See below from vehiclehistory.com: What are some of the 2014 dodge Ram 1500 power steering problems? 5219 6 Top Answer Nick B. January 19, 2021 The 2014 Ram 1500 has electric power steering, so luckily You'll avoid all the issues with power steering fluid leaks, power steering pump failure, and air in the fluid. However, it comes with a whole host of new issues, which can manifest more suddenly and catastrophically (at speed). On the other hand, it seems as if these issues happen less commonly, so it's a fair trade off in the minds of many. Typically, if You're going to see a failure, it's going to be the EPS module. It's possible that You'll have intermittent power steering loss, but it commonly happens all at once -- which can really be quite dangerous if You're traveling at highway speeds. Some drivers report this failure at high mileage, but an unsettling number have reported it at 50,000 or fewer.
The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while the vehicle was in reverse, the steering wheel became stiff, making it almost impossible to steer the vehicle. The power steering fault warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the electric power steering unit needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 26,220.

First i baught my truck new with 50 miles on it ..... in 2014 to date it has 26, 226 miles on it. [ 1 ] the elect. power steering has failed .. i checked the two fuses at positive battery post they are [ ok ] and yes it is available for inspection. [ 2 ] you can not turn the steering wheel when truck is runnung. [ 3 ] no this just happened Saturday 7/ 8/ 2023 will call Dodge Dealer monday [ 4 ] can't drive to have somebody to look at it. [ 5 ] i went to my DR. on 7/7/2023 with no problems, parked my truck that day, when i went to get a lottery ticket on Saturday started truck put in reverse and couldn't turn the wheel i shut off truck and restarted but still the same and on dash clucter showes a steering wheel and a question mark this is the first time it happened and no worning. what do i do thank you
Electronic steering failed. Would not engage. Would not reset. While there is a recall on certain vehicles, mine VIN show 0 recall incomplete. This is a known safety issue and I am having to pay out of pocket $4100.00
While driving, all the sudden the power steering went out and a Service Power Steering Warning Light came on. The steering became almost impossible to steer and I'm a big guy. This almost caused me to run the truck off the road but thankfully I was just making a turn after stopping at a stop sign and entering onto another street. Had there been a vehicle coming down the road, I would not have been able to avoid the collision. This was an extremely dangerous situation and thankfully I didn't have my wife and kid in the car and there wasn't any oncoming traffic. When I searched online, it appears that this is an ongoing issue and there haven't been any recalls. Something needs to be done as I feel unsafe and this is my primary driver.
"service power steering" indication on dash at cold weather startup. I have experienced this for a few years now. It seems wholly related to cold temperatures, as fault does not happen during warm weather. Truck is totally unable to be steered when in this fault condition. Seems to be a very common complaint with these EPS systems since the first year they were introduced in the Ram in 2013.
The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving 50 MPH, the steering wheel became firm. The contact stated that the steering wheel seized with the power steering assist warning light illuminated. The contact pulled over on the side of the road and turned off and restarted the vehicle and the vehicle operated as designed. The dealer was contacted but offered no assistance. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the vehicle was out of warranty. No assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 142,000.

I was driving on a busy congested road. I was traveling 55 mph. As I was driving, a warning light came on to service the power steering (this had not happened previously and I had no warning). I realized then that my steering wheel had seized and became immobile. Using tremendous force I was able to get the truck through traffic and to the side of the road. I was unable to control the truck normally. I had to navigate across two other lanes of traffic to get the truck to a safe position. It required a great deal of strength on the steering wheel to move the truck at all. Fortunately the road I was on was straight. If there had been any curve I would have definitely been in an accident and could have seriously injured myself or others. This car has been looked at by an independent mechanic and the problem verified. He has advised that there is no manufacturer part or aftermarket part available for this issue. Additionally the manufacturer has advised there is no fix. This car is currently not driveable and in my driveway available for inspection.
The electric steering would intermittently fail while driving causing the steering to become very hard to control. It was a hazard at high speeds which could lead to a crash if not corrected. This same issue has been recalled on later year models of this truck, but the 2014 doesn't have a recall.
When turning in either direction the steering wheel will get stiff. Due to the steering becoming extremely difficult, I had to have the vehicle towed as I could not control it and put my kids at risk. The truck is at the dealership getting checked out, The service advisor did see the issue when taking it for a test drive. There was no warning or indicator that there was an issue on the dashboard.
Intermittent power steering failure. So far i get a warning of failure on vehicle start up and its very obviously a problem as the steering wheel is extremely difficult to move. The trouble code is not one that is saved, so diagnostics are problematic. I myself have not had a failure on the road, but i know its happened. FCA is aware of this potentially very dangerous problem and issued a recall VB9 but excluded a great number of vehicles. I cannot trust this truck any longer and hope To get the recall expanded. It should not be difficult to imagine the potential for catastrophe here.

INTERSECTION,I PROCEEDED TO TURN LEFT, THE WHEEL TURNED TO THE RIGHT AND LOCKED i STRUIGGLED TO CONTROLD THE VEHICLE, DESPERATELY TRYING NOT TO HIT A MAN CROSSING THE STREET IN A WHEELCHAIR. i LOST CONTROL, JUMPED A CURVE AND HIT A LIGHT POLE. MY FACE HIT THE STEERING WHEEL. FOUR OF MY TEETH WERE KNOCKED LOOSE. IHAD TO HAVE THEM PULL DUE TO AN INFECTION. MY HEAD AND NECK WAS JERKED AROUND TWICE. I WAS IN SHOCK & TERRIFIED I DROVE HOME CALLED MY SON, HE IMMEDIATELY CAME TO DRIVE THE TRUCK TO MY HOME, I MANAGED. MY DENTIST PULLED THREE TEETH AND THEN ONE MORE BECAUSE THEY BECAME INFECTED. THIS STEERING PROBLEM WAS NOT NORMAL., NO FLUID LOSS, N0 WARNING. MY TRUCK HAD BEEN IN THE SHOP 4-6 WEEKS PRIOR A COMPLETE DIAGNOSIS WAS CONDUCTED. THERE WAS NO INDICATION THAT THIS WAS AN ISSUE, HAD I TURN TO THE RIGHT I WOULD HAVE CAUSED A MAJOR ACCIDENT ON THE FREEWAY. INSTEAD OF GOING HOME THAT NIGHT i WAS GOING TO SEE MY 6 YEAR OLD GRANDDAUGHTER. MY INSURANCE COMPANY TOLD ME TO PLACE IN THE SHIOP. AFTER THE REPAIRS THEY SAID THEY WOULD NOT COVER THE $5,000 REPAIR BECAUSE THEY DISCOVERED IT WAS A WEAR AND TEAR. THIS IS FALSE. I CALLED FCA they informed me that my warranty was out. I telephoned them several times to inform them this was not a warranty issue. The same issue for the recall, reoccurred. it wasn't unit I informed them of my injury, then they informed me they would send someone to investigate. They sent their Engineering Analysis associates/Bosch Automotive Services Solutions to exam the repaired vehicle. It was at that point they read the report from Lithia Dodge Ram, the dealer my deceased husband purchased this death trap and examined it, but they could not find no evidence of a manufacturing issue, no evidence of power steering, electrical nor the throttle. Well, this is a problem because my invoice I was given and I was advised the report code stated it was electrical steering rack, a manufacturer problem THOUSANDS COMPLAINED. #ACCOUNTABILITY!
Electric steering goes out without warning. Could start working at any time later. Definitely a hazard to drive. Took it in for repair and of course it was working and had no code.
Steering in the truck has been getting more and more difficult (like I'm losing power steering). No visual defects visible but upon further online research, there have been numerous cases of this, resulting in steering lock-up, potentially causing an accident.
Power steering went out while driving. EPS module needs to be replaced
Electronic power steering gear went out. Verified at Ram dealership. This did not happen while driving down the road thank God. In driveway so no injuries caused from incident. This over $3,000 Repair should be covered under recall VB9/ NHTSA 19E-077????? Have dealership invoice for paid in full proof.
When driving the Power Steering Failure warning comes on and you have to fight the wheel to steer the truck. Sometimes you can turn the vehicle off and then start it again and the warning will go off and steering is back to normal. Unpredictable as to when it is going to happen. Happened 4 times and ended up having it towed to the dealership for diagnostics. I called FCA on 8-18-2022 and they said there was a recall on 2013-2019 Ram 1500 trucks (Recall VB9) but that my vehicle was not identified as being a part of that recall. Luckily I was able to stop vehicle before an accident happened and before anyone was hurt.
Electronic Power Steering Failure My wife was driving on 70 miles per hour on the interstate when all of a sudden the red EPS light came on the dash and caused her to struggle to drive and run off the road. An automotive mechanic confirmed the EPS system needs to be replaced.
The contact's daughter owns a 2014 Dodge Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving at 55 MPH with her children sitting in the front passenger and rear passenger seats, the vehicle in front of her stopped inadvertently. The contact's daughter depressed the brake pedal and attempted to quickly veer to the side of the road to prevent her vehicle from crashing into the vehicle in front of her. However, the steering wheel locked and the vehicle crashed into the rear end of the vehicle in front of her. The air bags failed to deploy. The message "Malfunctioning Steering" was displayed. The bumper and front grill of the vehicle detached. The contact's daughter sustained bruises and soreness all over the body. The contact was unsure whether his grandchildren sustained injuries. The passenger of the other vehicle did not sustain injuries. A police report was filed. The contact's daughter was taken to the hospital with the assistance of emergency units. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard. The vehicle was then towed to the contact's residence. An unknown Dodge dealer was notified of the vehicle but provided no assistance. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened. The contact was awaiting a call back from the manufacturer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000. The VIN was not available.
Mileage: 100,000
The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65 MPH and hauling a 30-foot-long travel trailer, the power steering malfunctioned, causing the steering wheel to become difficult to turn in either direction. During the failure, the service power steering message was displayed. The driver was able to maneuver the vehicle to the shoulder and stopped the vehicle. After turning off and restarting the vehicle, the vehicle operated as normal. However, five days later the failure recurred as a permanent failure. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer who diagnosed that the electronic power steering gear and rack and pinion had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 47,000.
Mileage: 47,000
The rack and pinion which is electronic failed and caused me to crash because it could not steer. There are 1500 plus other vehicles waiting for the same part. Which you can't get a new one because they are on back order. But with that many vehicles waiting for the same part it should be a recall on them.
Power Steering went out.
Recall VB9/NHTSA 19E-077. Recall is similar to problems with my 2014 Dodge Ram pickup with regard to the electric power steering module over heating code C2210 - And C2217. Causing the electric power steering to fail. Models 1500 Dodge Ram 2013-2019 Are included in the recall. my electronic power steering has been built with a contaminated circuit card assembly also but doesn’t show on my particular Vin number. An has yet to be added to the recall list. After a diagnostic from the dealership at dodge they found the issue to be identified as identical to open recall noted above. Vehicle was in for diagnostic today at the dealership.
Service Power Steering warning came on and there was no ability to move the wheel without a great deal of effort. I needed to make an appointment and couldn't even get out of the driveway due to the lack of power steering and turn radius. Major issue for us as the truck is rendered useless during cooler days up to 80 degrees F. This is a vehicle that I do not feel safe in, let alone put our infant in a "very safe vehicle" to drop off or pick up from daycare where the steering wheel feels locked up.
The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. While driving approximately at 70 MPH, the contact stated that following a highway turn to the right the steering wheel felt loose. The contact used the steering wheel lever downward and felt that the steering wheel was still loose. The contact used the steering wheel adjusting lever again to lift the steering wheel back up when the entire steering came off in the contact's hands. The contact stated he did not notice any warning lights being illuminated. The contact advised that the vehicle crossed two lanes of traffic barely avoiding a collision. The contact stated that he was able to safely stop the vehicle before crashing into the highway barrier wall on the left. The contact said he felt great fear and suffered a panic attack due to the failure. Medical attention was not sought and he was able to reattach the steering wheel back onto the column. The contact stated he drove the vehicle to his residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.
Mileage: 120,000
EPS went out at 115,000. Dodge is not making the part so it's impossible to get fixed. Also as I did research I noticed many complaint that EPS went out on others with much lower mileage, yet out of warranty, and there is no recall. Apparently there is or 2015 and 2016 for the same issue
Suspension is air ride and is defected. It stops working and makes the truck bounce with any disturbance/bump on the road. Truck sways from side to side. Have had to replace the front axles/joints and the front end alignment. The mechanic stated that something was welded (that shouldn't have been) probably was caused because of the suspension. Every now and again the warning message "service suspension" comes on but not every time it happens. I haven't had the money to have it inspected because I put a lot down on the vehicle and to have the front end repaired. Our insurance wouldn't cover the claim.
Electronic Power Steering Module causing intermittent power steering loss. Making it difficult to steer.
2014 RAM 1500. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO DEFECTIVE CLOCK SPRING STEERING COLUMN CONTROL MODULE (SCCM).
When the truck is started the service shifter light comes on and will not let you shift the truck out of park. Then when driving down the road the light will come on and the truck will automatically shift in park and you can’t do anything but coast of the road to stop. It’s extremely hard to turn the steering to get off the road. This was fixed once at a dodge dealership and they said it was fixed and clearly it is not. This has happened to many trucks. I feel this need attention and fixed for the safety of others.
Driving when the power steering quit working. Extremely hard to steer , luckily I was in a low traffic area. Could have been catastrophic. A warning lamp that looked like a steering wheel and exclamation point appeared after the fact. Very dangerous and a hazard
The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving 35 MPH, the vehicle started drifting to the right into the opposite lane. The contact manually steered the vehicle to keep the vehicle centered in the lane. The contact pulled over and inspected the vehicle but found no failure with the vehicle. The vehicle was restarted and driven to the residence. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic however, the mechanic was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
Mileage: 100,000
Power steering is intermittent. Works fine in heat and doesn’t work in cold weather until vehicle has been running for at least 30min. After warm up I turn the vehicle off then back on and it works again. Dealership quoted me a total of $3300 to replace the rack and pinion.
The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated that upon approaching a right-hand curve at 35 MPH, the steering wheel locked up as the power steering warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact stated that he was forced to slam on the brakes to avoid oncoming traffic that was approaching. Due to the failure, the contact had a friend tow the vehicle to his home. The contact stated that upon the start of the vehicle, the failure persisted and the steering wheel would not turn as needed. The dealer nor the manufacturer have yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was 107,767.
Mileage: 107,767
Electric power steering went out while driving, it is very difficult to turn, this causes a increased chance of a accident as it is difficult to maneuver quickly if necessary to avoid an accident.
Electronic Power Steering (EPS) went out while driving truck, could not steer truck, had to pull off side of the road while driving. Very dangerous. Turned off truck and restarted been working since. Had the whole family with me in the truck.
The Ram has electric steering. Mine will turn off and on intermittently. When in a curve, it can cause you to have light pressure to high pressure to low pressure on the wheel. Have had two incidences where I could have hit others or went off the road in a curve.
The Air Suspension System on my 2014 Dodge Ram 1500 4 X4 has stalled or has currently frozen and this makes it extremely difficult to steer the vehicle. Even at low speeds 25-45 mph it leaves the pavement when crossing the slightest pavement imperfections. The Highways of Louisiana and Texas are filled with imperfections and it is a horrifying experience to drive this vehicle in this condition. I have taken it to several different respected mechanics, and many are the most recommended and it's always the same. "Dodge needs to have their butts kicked for putting this system in a small truck such as this." They warns me, 'it will only grow worse as the truck gets older.' When driving on the Interstate (I-20) in Louisiana and Texas the truck leaves the ground whenever I pass over a dip, bump or a bridge. This is scary when I am driving along beside an 18 Wheeler. Crossing Railroad Tracks is so distressing and uncomfortable needless to say, It feels like the truck is falling apart. I am afraid for my own safety, but I must drive the 35 miles one way to work five days a week. I have replaced the pump, but now the pump is pumping, but it appears to be something else. The local Dealerships have a reputation of ripping people off, and when I call to inquire or complain I only get a Salesmen who can help by assisting me to trade it in. At this point, with vehicle prices skyrocketing I just this dealership should sale vehicles worth the money they get. Dodge really needs to fix this problem. I have looked on YouTube and noticed this is a very common problem, and in every video the owners are stating how dangerous these vehicles are when the system goes out. It is life threatening to simple drive this vehicle to work in order to make a living to support my family.
Electric power steering gets very stiff when making left or right turns. No warning lights. There was a recall for this problem but my VIN was not included.
The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated that the power steering was working intermittently. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer where it was diagnosed with an internal short in the internal unit. The vehicle was not repaired. Teenage son driving 75 mph on a bridge when steering suddenly went out causing the truck to swerve into another lane. With much effort he was able to pull steering wheel back into his lane but almost hit another vehicle in the process. Our vin is not included in the recall - this needs to be remedied immediately before someone is seriously hurt or killed. The truck has not been inspected or repaired, it can not be driven safely. There were not warning lamps or messages or symptoms prior.
The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated that the steering wheel failed. The contact stated that when attempting to turn the steering wheel, the steering had to be turned with force to be able to complete the turn. The contact stated that there was no warning light before during or after the failure occurred. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the electronic rack and pinion needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 19E077000 (Steering). The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 55,000.

The contact's husband owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the steering wheel locked as the steering wheel symbol warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. Due to the failure, the contact had the vehicle towed to an independent mechanic where it was kept for a week but not repaired. The contact then had the vehicle towed to a dealer where it remained in their possession for repairs to other recalls on the vehicle. The contact was notified by the dealer that the rack and pinion was the cause of the steering failure; however, there were no recalls on the vehicle for the rack and pinion. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and they also informed her that there were no recalls on the vehicle for the rack and pinion. The contact was informed that she would receive a call back from the manufacturer but had not yet received the call back. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 71,000.

WHEN DRIVING AT A LOW SPEED THE POWER STEERING ASSIST SHUT OFF. THE RED LIGHT WITH THE POWER STEERING SYMBOL AND ! CAME ON. I PULLED OVER AND TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE AND RESTARTED THE ENGINE AND IT WAS WORKING AGAIN, U TIL I CAME TO A LOW SPEED. CHECKED THE FUSE #78 AND IT LOOKED OK, PLUGGED IT BACK IN AND NO ISSUE FOR 3 & 1/2 DAYS , UNTIL THIS MORNING. THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE ON RAM 1500 YRS 2013 to 2019, BUT MY VIN DOES NOT REGISTER FOR THE RECALL. THIS STARTED MONDAY EVENING.
Turned ignition to on, installed seat belt. Turned ignition to start, dash icons lit up and went out except a new one. Put in drive and had no power steering. Backed up, turned off ignition. restarted engine with power steering working. Drove vehicle. Next day, no power steering. This time would not reset. Researched problem on computer, finding others having same problem. Checked fuses finding relating ones good, and no power steering pump. Will consult a mechanical solution.
The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the power steering assist failed to operate as designed without warning. The contact stated that excessive force was needed to steer the vehicle once the failure had occurred. The contact stated that the power steering assist would return while driving the vehicle. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 124,000.

Steering column whining noise problem for the last two years that dealership could not pinpoint, finally blossomed into an extremely dangerous random intermittent loss of power steering at any speed on a truck with only 73000 miles. As with many, many cases related to RAM trucks and their electronic power steering problems that have surfaced, my situation is the same as many who are finding that although a recall has been issued on certain vin numbers and serial numbers pertaining to the rack and pinion and electronic gear associated with some models, that my numbers are not on the list, therefore replacement costs are somewhere in the range of $2800-$3800. It seems unfathomable that the same wide-spread problem can exist with the same exact rack and pinion system on so many trucks, but Chrysler refuses to acknowledge all but a fraction of the vehicles that are currently on the road posing extremely potentially dangerous and fatal outcomes. Recall VB9 needs to be revised as an immediate no-cost replacement of all these faulty steering mechanisms.
Was driving home from church with my children in the truck when the dash lights flashes. It said battery power saver mode and then Service Electronic Power Steering. And then I started to drift towards the ditch. Was able to pull my truck off the road but it could’ve been an accident. I called my husband and he came to look at it. He happened to be at O’Reilley’s when I called him so he picked up some things and came to figure it out. After learning their is no steering fluid and doing some online research he checked the fuses. Put his code reader on it and no codes. Turn the truck back on the light was gone and steering was fine. We decided he would follow me home. Drove 12 miles and had no steering again. My truck has 98,000 miles on it. I’ve already had the rear main seal/ exhaust manifold redone (dealer warranty), entire rear including calipers, brakes, ball joints, wheel bearings, and tie rods redone (dealer warranty), and the rear brakes including calipers out of my own pocket Twice!! I’ve only had the truck for two years. Plus a few other miscellaneous electronic issues for my electrical ports, radio and dash lights, Traction Control, heated seats, and Electronic Braking System.
Drove my vehicle and then parked for one hour. Got back in and started it. Indicator light flashing for the steering wheel. I realized I could not turn my wheel. The power steering was out. I turned the vehicle on and off several times, and it "reset" itself and the indicator light was no longer flashing or lit up. Steering seemed fine as before. I drove it to the local Dodge dealership (Safford Dodge in Salisbury, MD) to see if they could check it out; mechanic came out and said it was electric power steering, he had seen this before, and it was unsafe to drive it any further. I felt uncomfortable driving it back home or to any other garage, as it was subject to going in and out. They are currently repairing the "power steering gear rack," at a cost of $2500. I am thankful this did not go out while I was driving- I would have been unable to turn the wheel and could have caused a serious accident to my vehicle and/or others. I looked this up online and found over 100 similar complaints involving power steering issues in Dodge Rams. I am currently at approx 74,400 miles and have not previously had any issue with my power steering prior to Monday. I am available to be contacted any time. I do not yet have any paperwork from the dealership regarding the repair as it is still there, but I can scan it and send it to the appropriate person once I get something from them.
Sudden loss of electric power steering assist without warning or symptoms. Loss of power assist made steering extremely difficult. Vehicle is in an independent repair shop for an inspection and repair cost estimate. There was no warning or symptoms. Failure was SUDDEN.

THE TRUCK HAS LOSS OF POWER STEERING OCCASIONALLY AT LOW SPEEDS. THERE WAS SAFETY RECALL FOR THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING AND I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT THEY WILL NOT FIX THE PROBLEM UNDER THE SAFETY RECALL BECAUSE THIS VIN NUMBER IS NOT ON THE NHTSA SAFETY RECALL LIST. I NEED THIS FIXED. THIS IS A DEFECTIVE PART INSTALLED FROM THE MANUFACTURER AND THEY KNOW THAT THE EPS IS FAULTY. REFERENCE NUMBER RC-VB9-19. SAFETY RECALL NUMBER VB9/NHTSA 19E-077 ELECTRIC POWER STEERING, CHRYSLER : ALL MODLES
I was driving at high speed on the expressway and my electrical power steering quit working. I ran off the road and into the ditch because the truck was too hard to control without the power steering. I could have crashed into someone or injured myself. This is a very dangerous situation to be in if you are driving at any speed. If my wife had been driving it could have been fatal. Additionally, the repairs were over $3500. I will be selling this truck as it is too dangerous for anyone to drive. Sincerely, [XXX] INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

Parked the truck and went into the grocery store, came back out and started the truck. Then I noticed the steering wheel with an exclamation caution ⚠️ light was on and had no power steering. Drove 5 minutes to my house and parked it. This could have been fatal if I was driving and the power steering had went out then. It's time to get this item recalled before someone looses their life!
2014 Dodge ram 1500. Consumer writes in regards to power steering failure. *LD THE CONSUMER STATED THE POWER STEERING FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE CONSUMER BELIEVED THE FAILURE SHOULD BE A SAFETY RECALL.
The vehicle was being driven home from work, when the truck went into battery saver mode and the power steering stopped working. I was moving forward and the steering became almost impossible to control. I am 6'2 and in good shape, so I manhandled the steering to control the vehicle, and I got the vehicle to turn, barely missing 2 parked cars. If I wasnt strong enough to turn the wheels, there would have been damage to property and parked cars. The only light to come on was "battery saver mode" on the Driver info screen. Problem was a faulty battery, but in same hand, there should be a better system in the steering if the power fails in the vehicle. This problem happened in Canada, but there is much better response to dealing with issues from this organization in the USA.
While operating my 2014 ram 1500 with approximately 76000 miles the power steering went out unexpectedly and without warning. There were no dash lights or indications of any problems with the steering system. Power steering was lost immediately Making it very difficult to steer and negotiate turns. I feel if this would have happened in the process of negotiating a turn it most likely would have resulted in a crash. I have not had the issue inspected or serviced at this time and no crash occurred.
STEERING WHEEL STICKS ON BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT TURNS . SPOKE TO MY MECHANIC HE ADVISED THERE IS A KNOWN ISSUE ON RAM TRUCKS WITH THE ELECTRONICS ON THE POWER STEERING . HE TOLD US THERE ARE MULTIPLE RECALLS ON THIS ISSUE BETWEEN 2013 AND 2020. I CALLED CHRYSLER AND ALL THEY WOULD TELL ME IS MY VIN IS NOT UNDER THE RECALL . TOLD ME TO FIX MY TRUCK AND IF IT FALLS UNDER THE RECALL AT ANY TIME THEY WILL REIMBURSE ME . I DON'T 2800 DOLLARS TO PAY FOR IT ..

RECENTLY, WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY, THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT CAME ON UPON STARTING THE VEHICLE. THE STEERING WHEEL WAS LOCKED UP AND VERY DIFFICULT TO MOVE. RESTARTING THE VEHICLE DID NOT IMPROVE THE PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP THAT LOOKED UP THE VIN AND STATED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS COVERED UNDER 'EQUIPMENT SAFETY RECALL VB9/NHTSA 19E-077 ELECTRIC POWER STEERING GEAR.' POWER STEERING WENT COMPLETELY OUT ON MY 2014 DODGE RAM 1500. IT LOCKED UP ON ME AND ALMOST CAUSED A CRASH. FORTUNATELY I WAS ABLE TO AVOID THAT. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY DODGE HAS NO RECALL ON THIS AS THE MORE I READ ABOUT IT, IT WAS COMMON ISSUE ON 2013,2014 AND 2015"S MODEL YEAR. TO ME THIS IS A DEFINITE SAFETY ISSUE. WHEN IT LOCKS UP YOU CANNOT STEER THE VEHICLE.

I GOT INTO MY TRUCK TO LEAVE FROM WORK. WHEN I STARTED THE ENGINE, THE "BATTERY VOLTAGE LOW" WARNING INSTANTLY CAME ON. JUST A FEW SECONDS LATER, THE "SERVICE POWER STEERING" WARNING CAME ON AS WELL. AT THIS TIME THE RADIO SHUT OFF. MY TRUCK THEN SAID: "BATTERY SAVER MODE" WAS ON, AND THE RADIO CAME BACK ON. THE POWER STEERING WAS COMPLETELY OFF/NOT WORKING, SO I WAS VERY GRATEFUL THAT I WAS SITTING IN THE PARKING LOT AND NOT DRIVING WHILE THIS HAPPENED AS IT COULD'VE CAUSED A MAJOR ACCIDENT! I LIMPED ALONG SLOWLY WITH MY FLASHERS ON, TO AN AUTOZONE TO HAVE THEM CHECK MY BATTERY. THEY WERE VERY BUSY, SO EVEN THOUGH MY BATTERY WAS LESS THAN A YEAR OLD, I SIMPLY BOUGHT A BRAND NEW ONE TO SEE IF IT FIXED THE PROBLEM WITH BOTH THE BATTERY (WHICH SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN A PROBLEM AT ALL) BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY, THE POWER STEERING FAILURE. THANKFULLY, I HAD A NEARLY STRAIGHT SHOT TO GET HOME, BUT IT WAS VERY HARD TO STEER THE TRUCK, AND I'M A BIG GUY, SO FOR THE AVERAGE PERSON, THEY WOULD HAVE MOST LIKELY HAD TO CALL A TOW TRUCK. I HAVE STARTED IT UP EVERY DAY SINCE THEN WHICH WAS 5 DAYS AGO, AND I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO POWER STEERING AT ALL. THIS SHOULD NEVER HAPPEN ON A VEHICLE...NEVER. AND I HAD ZERO PROBLEMS WITH IT, SO WHY WOULD IT JUST FAIL FOR NO APPARENT REASON? THERE MUST BE A RECALL FOR THIS; PLEASE ADVISE. THANK YOU.

IT STARTED DOING THIS ALL ON ITS OWN ONE DAY. A MESSAGE APPEARS THAT SAYS SERVICE EPS. I HAVE READ AND THIS SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE, BUT FOR SOME REASON THERE IS NO RECOLL ON IT. AND THE DEALER WANTS TO CHARGE ME OVER $3,000 TO FIX THIS. CAN SOME ONE HELP ME WITH THIS.

AFTER RETURNING HOME FROM A BRIEF TRIP APPROXIMATELY 20 MI I CAME HOME, I THEN LEFT MY HOUSE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 3 MI WHEN I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY INTERSECTION, AS I STARTED TO GO THROUGH THE INTERSECTION MY TRUCK SUDDENLY DIED I WAS ABLE TO COAST THROUGH THE INTERSECTION, WITH NO POWER STEERING AND NO ASSISTED POWER BRAKES, USING A LOT OF FORCE I WAS ABLE TO BRING THE TRUCK TO A COMPLETE STOP, ON THE EDGE OF A BUSY ROAD WHILE I WAITED FOR HELP TO ARRIVE. I CALLED A TOW TRUCK AND HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A LOCAL DEALERSHIP, THEY TOLD ME A PART THAT WAS CALLED A TONE WHEEL HAD FAILED. AFTER DOING A BIT OF ONLINE SEARCHING I SEE THAT THIS IS A FAIRLY COMMON PROBLEM AMONGST THESE RAM ECO-DIESELS. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION I FIND THAT CERTAIN ECO-DIESELS RANGING FROM 2014 TO 2018 WERE BEING RECALLED FOR THIS PART BUT MY PARTICULAR 2014 IS NOT INCLUDED THE PART IS A WHEEL THAT A SENSOR LOOKS AT AND TIMES THE FUEL SYSTEM WITH THE OTHER ENGINE COMPONENTS FOR COMBUSTION WHEN THIS SENSOR DOESN'T SEE THE WHEEL IT DOES NOT KNOW WHERE THE REST OF THE ENGINE IS IN ITS CYCLE CAUSING IT TO SHUT OFF IMMEDIATELY GIVING IT NO POWER TO PROPEL ITSELF TO A SAFE SPOT. THE RECALL W58 AS IT'S KNOWN IN FCA RAM TRUCKS SHOULD FIX THIS ISSUE WITH A SIMPLE PROGRAM CHANGE WHEREAS THE DEALER WANTS TO REPLACE THE PART WITH A EXACT REPLACEMENT WHICH WILL LIKELY HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM THE NEXT TIME WE MAY NOT BE SO LUCKY. MY FEAR IS THAT IF MY WIFE OR MY TEEN AGE SON WOULD BE DRIVING IT, THEY MAY NOT HAVE HAD THE STRENGTH TO STEER IT AND STOP IN A SAFE PLACE I BELIEVE I WAS LUCKY. AS I UNDERSTAND IT THE RECALL IS A SIMPLE PROGRAM CHANGE AND ELIMINATES THE DEFECTIVE TONE WHEEL SYSTEM IN QUESTION . I BELIEVE THE RECALL SHOULD APPLY TO MY TRUCK AND PROVES THAT THEY KNOW THAT THEY HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THIS SYSTEM.

I WAS DRIVING MY TRUCK AND ALL OF SUDDEN MY STEERING LOCKED UP AND A RED STEERING WHEEL ICON WITH A FLASHING EXCLAMATION POINT WAS ON THE DASH BOARD. I WAS UNABLE TO TURN MY STEERING WHEEL. WHEN I RESTARTED MY TRUCK IT WENT AWAY. THE NEXT DAY IT DID IT AGAIN. NOW AFTER ABOUT A 2 WEEKS IT THE ICON WILL NOT GO AWAY I CAN NOT TURN MY STEERING WHEEL AT ALL. WHEN I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP THEY WEREN'T AWARE OF ANY ISSUES SO I CALLED CHRYSLER AND THEY SAID THAT A RECALL WASN'T AVAILABLE FOR THE BUILD DATE OF MY TRUCK. BUT I'VE SEEN RECALLS FOR TRUCKS BEFORE AND AFTER MY TRUCK. MY TRUCK HAS BEEN PARKED FOR ABOUT 3 WEEKS BECAUSE THE REPAIR PRICE IS ABOUT $2,400 DOLLARS.

THE AIR SUSPENSION HAS NOT BEEN WORKING PROPERLY FOR WELL OVER A YEAR NOW IT INTERMITTENTLY GOES DOWN TO THE BUMP STOPS AND COULD CAUSE A SERIOUS INJURY TO PERSONS IN OTHER VEHICLES PLUS MY OWN BECAUSE ANY BUMP THAT YOUR HIT CAUSE THE TRUCK TO BOUNCED LOSING TRACTION WITH THE ROAD AND THAT EVEN MEANS WHEN SLOWING DOWN THE TRACTION CONTROL ABS BRICKS IN AND CAUSE THE WHEELS TO NOT LOCK UP ,, ALSO THE TRUCK CAN'T HOLD THE LOAD IF AND IN THE BED CUSSING UNSAFE HANDLING AROUND CORNERS AND THREW TRAFFIC

I WAS DRIVING MY TRUCK DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT ABOUT 70 MPH WHEN A ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE TRUCK JUST STOPPED WORKING. IT COMPLETELY STALLED, IT WAS DIFFICULT TO STEER, BUT LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER SAFELY. I LOOKED UP THE WARNING LIGHT AND IT SAID IT HAD TO DO WITH THE CRANK SHAFT SENSOR. THE TRUCK WOULD NOT TURN OVER AND I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED. MY TRUCK HAS NOW BEEN SITTING AT A DODGE DEALERSHIP FOR 2 MONTHS AND THEY ARE SAYING IT WILL BE ANOTHER MONTH UNTIL THEY MIGHT GET THE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR IN NEEDED TO FIX IT. HERE IS THE THING, DODGE IS WELL AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. A PROBLEM THAT IS SO WIDE SPREAD THEY LITERALLY DO NOT HAVE ANYMORE PARTS TO FIX IT. THEY HAVE A RECALL FOR IT FOR VEHICLES MANUFACTURED IN THE US WITH A WORK AROUND UNTIL THEY GET PARTS MADE BUT BECAUSE MY TRUCK WAS MANUFACTURED IN CANADA THEY REFUSE TO PUT MY VIN IN WITH THE RECALL SO THEY CAN USE THE WORK AROUND. I HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH DODGE AND HAVE GOTTEN NO WHERE. I HAVE ANOTHER RECALL THAT HAS NOT BEEN FIXED AND THEY SAY CANNOT BE FIXED UNTIL THEY GET THE CRANKSHAFT FIXED. THIS OTHER RECALL THEY HAVE KNOWN ABOUT FOR OVER A YEAR AND THEY WOULD TELL ME TO TAKE IT ON THE HIGHWAY AND DRIVE IT. NOW THEY ARE TELLING ME WHAT A FIRE HAZARD THIS RECALL IS.

THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHTS OR MAINTANCE WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASH. I WAS ACCELERATING WHEN ALL OF THIS HAPPENED AND LET OFF ONCE THE TRUCK REFUSED TO RESPOND. THERE WAS NO ISSUE PRIOR TO THIS AT ANY TIME. ABSOLUTELY NO ABILITY TO STEER VEHICLE. FORTUNATELY, I WAS NOT DRIVING WHEN THIS OCCURRED. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN FOR MY FAMILY AND MYSELF . I DO NOT UNDERSTAND HOW THE RECALL FOR THE 2015-2016 RAM DOES NOT INCLUDE 2014. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY AN ISSUE WITH EARLIER YEAR MODELS. THE ESTIMATE TO REPAIR THIS MALFUNCTION WAS $2400 ! DODGE NEEDS TO STEP UP AND TAKE CARE OF THEIR CUSTOMERS COMPLAINTS! NO WAY CAN A RECALLED PART ON NEWER MODELS NOT BE ISSUED FOR ALL MODELS CONTAINING THE EQUIPMENT?!? SINCE DAY ONE OF BUYING THIS VEHICLE IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN IN THE SHOP FOR AIR SUSPENSION PROBLEMS SOMETIMES FOR A FEW WEEKS AT A TIME. SEEMS LIKE NO ONE KNOWS HOW TO DIAG THE SYSTEM BECAUSE IT WAS ALWAYS DARTS THROWN AND NO PROBLEMS EVER FIXED, THEY HAVE REPLACED AIRBAGS, COMPRESSOR, CHARGED THE SYSTEM, REPROGRAMMED/CALIBRATED THE SYSTEM AND WHO KNOWS HOW MANY FUSES! IVE GOTTEN AIR SUSPENSION CODES LEFT AND RIGHT WITH COMPRESSOR TEMP CODES... THE MAIN CONCERN IS THE WAY THIS VEHICLE DRIVES WHEN IT FALLS ON BUMP STOPS AND CHANGES THE CAMBER OF THE TIRES ( HAS RUINED A BRAND NEW SET OF TIRES DUE TO INSIDE TIRE WEAR ON BOTH FRONT ) TIRES ARE SCREECHING WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, BOUNCES WHILE TURNING AND HITTING SMALL BUMPS... WELL THAT JUST MAKES YOU FEEL LIKE YOU GOT IN A CRASH WHEN IT THROWS YOU AROUND OUT OF SEAT! THATS EVEN AT LOWER SPEEDS AROUND 40-45 MPH! I ABSOLUTELY FEAR FOR MY LIFE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE AND AT FREEWAY SPEEDS ITS JUST PLAYING WITH THE DEVIL. ITS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED BY THIS HORRIBLE AIR SUSPENSION SYSTEM! THE PROBLEM IS NO ONE SEEMS TO CARE... WELL UNLESS IT WAS THEIR FAMILY MEMBER.THE SYSTEM WAS DESIGNED TO FAIL WHEN THEY PUT A COMPRESSOR BEHIND THE RIGHT REAR WHEEL THAT FLINGS WATER, SNOW, SALT AND EVERYTHING ELSE ON THE ROAD RIGHT AT IT AND PUT SOME THIN COVER OVER IT AND SAY IT " PROTECTS " IT! I SURE HOPE THEY DO SOMETHING BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED, BECAUSE ITS NOT FAIR TO ME OR ANY OTHER PERSON TO HAVE TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE AND KNOW EVERYDAY WHEN GOING TO WORK THAT IT COULD BE MY LAST OR SOMEONES ELSE'S LAST! IVE GIVEN DEALERS SHOT AFTER SHOT YEAR AFTER YEAR, BUT SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS ASAP

WHILE DRIVING THE 2014 RAM 1500 THE VEHICLE HAS LOST POWER NUMEROUS TIMES. THIS IS AN INTERMITTENT ISSUE AND I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO DUPLICATE ON THE SPOT. THIS MEANS THAT THE LOSE OF POWER CAN HAPPEN AT ANY GIVEN TIME. THIS LOSE OF POWER WILL RESULT IN LOSING STEERING AND SOMETIMES BRAKING, SINCE ALL ARE CONTROLLED BY ELECTRONICS. THESE OCCURRENCES HAVE HAPPENED WHILE NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS; ROLLING UP WINDOWS, TURNING ON BRIGHT LIGHTS, AND JUST DRIVING.

I HAVE A 2014 RAM WITH AROUND 48K MILES. BACK IN FEBRUARY WHILE DRIVING I LOST STEERING. LUCKILY, I WAS ABLE TO GET OUT OF THE WAY OF A ONCOMING VEHICLE. I HAD MY TRUCK TOWED DUE TO THE SAFETY ISSUE OF NOT BEING ABLE TO STEER INTO MY NORMAL SERVICE DEALER. THEY REPLACED THE ALTERNATOR STATING THAT WAS THE ISSUE THAT MADE THE TRUCK LOSE STEERING. SINCE THEN I HAVE TAKEN THE TRUCK BACK A FEW TIMES WITH STEERING ISSUES AND THEY ARE NOT ABLE TO 'DUPLICATE' THE ISSUE SO CANNOT FIX IT. THIS PAST FRIDAY 11/15/2019 I WENT TO LEAVE MY HOUSE AND ONCE AGAIN WHILE I WAS DRIVING THE TRUCK IT LOST STEERING AND THIS TIME POWER DROPPED. I AGAIN HAD IT TOWED INTO THE SERVICE DEALER ON 11/18/2019. TODAY 11/22/2019 THEY STATED THAT AGAIN THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE ISSUE. THEY DID FIND ERROR CODES ABOUT VOLTAGE BUT HOWEVER STATED THAT THE COMPUTER 'FIXED ITSELF' AND CANNOT FIX THE STEERING ISSUES. WITH ALL THIS I LOVE MY TRUCK, HOWEVER WITH THE WITH THE SAFETY OF MYSELF, MY FAMILY, AND OTHERS ON THE ROAD IN MIND DRIVING THIS TRUCK WHILE THE STEERING CAN POSSIBLY GO OUT AT ANY TIME IS NOT A GOOD IDEA BY ANY MEANS.

I HAD TO HAVE THE TRUCK TOWED TO PUEBLO DODGE & SERVICE ADVISOR LESLIE LATER NOTIFIED ME OF A $2,300 COST TO REPAIR THE RACK & PINION TO GET THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING WORKING AGAIN. I HAVE LEARNED THAT MANY OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM WITH THEIR 2014 RAM 1500 P/U'S IN EVEN MORE HAZARDOUS CONDITIONS ON THE ROAD/STREET. IT HAS ABOUT 46,000 MILES ON IT. I AM TOLD THAT THERE IS NO RECOURSE BY THE CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SVC REP ERNESHA BUT SHE WILL FILE MY COMPLAINT. IT WILL NOT GO ANY FURTHER THAN THAT AS SHE SAYS IT IS NOT WORTHY AND OUT OF THE ORIGINAL WARRANTY. LESLIE SAYS IT IS NOT PART OF THE 100,000 MILE DRIVE TRAIN WARRANTY. I WAS CONSIDERING PURCHASING A NEW RAM TRUCK AS WELL BUT ABSOLUTELY WILL NOT BASED ON THIS EXPERIENCE AS I WILL APPARENTLY HAVE TO PAY AT LEAST $2,300 TO REPAIR A HAZARDOUS DEFECT IN A RELATIVELY NEW VEHICLE IN EXCELLENT CONDITION OTHERWISE. I AM OBVIOUSLY VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THIS COMPANY AND SITUATION.

MINE IS A 2014, THERE WAS A 2018 IN FOR THE SAME PROBLEM WHEN I WENT TO THE DEALER. DEALER HAD ALSO HAD 4 OTHER TRUCKS (SAME MODEL) IN THE SHOP WITHIN THE LAST FEW WEEKS AND THE PART WAS ON BACKORDER. DEALER HAD NO INFORMATION ON A RECALL BUT IF THIS IS HAPPENING IN 2018 MODELS AND THE DEALER HAS THEM IN TO BE WORKED ON IN LARGE NUMBERS THIS CLEARLY SAYS THERE IS SOMETHING GOING ON. WHILE DRIVING THIS WEEK THE POWER STEERING RANDOMLY FAILS CAUSING THE WHEEL TO SNAP TO ONE SIDE, AT FREEWAY SPEED THIS COULD BE FETAL. I HAVE READ FORUMS OF SEVERAL OTHERS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE IN THE PAST AND IT COSTING $2,000-4,000+ TO REPLACE THE ESP (ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING). PART IS NOT FIXABLE WITHOUT REPLACEMENT AND UNDER 100K MILES SHOULD NOT BE HAVING THIS ISSUE. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS IF THIS WOULD'VE HAPPENED AT FREEWAY SPEED, I HAD THE FIRST OCCURRENCE WHILE TURNING A CORNER AT APPROX 25MPH NEARLY SENDING ME OFF THE ROAD. TAKING AN EXIT AND MAKING A RIGHT HAND TURN I HAD TO USE ALL OF MY EFFORT TO TURN AND STRAIGHTEN BACK OUT. FELT LIKE THE WHEEL WAS GOING TO LOCK UP. MAKING TURNS THE REST OF THE WAY BACK HOME WAS VERY DIFFICULT. THE EPS SYSTEM WILL TURN BACK ON WHEN THE WHEELS ARE ABOUT 3/4 OF THE WAY TURNED, AND TURN BACK OFF MAKING THE TURN VERY DIFFICULT THEN BRIEFLY EASY. DURING COLD WEATHER IN MINNESOTA, THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING FAILED TO RESPOND CAUSING MY TRUCK TO GO INTO THE DITCH.
Mileage: 89,800
THE FACTORY "AIR RIDE" SUSPENSION FAILS IN COLD WEATHER. THE AIR BAGS COMPLETELY DEFLATE, LEAVING THE VEHICLE WITH NO SUSPENSION. LOSING ALL SUSPENSION ABILITY WHILE DRIVING IS A SERIOUS RISK TO LIFE. ENCOUNTERING SMALL POTHOLES OR ICY ROADS WITHOUT SUSPENSION INCREASES THE LIKELIHOOD OF WRECKS. THE LOWERING OF THE SUSPENSION CHANGES THE STEERING GEOMETRY REQUIRED TO PROPERLY STEER A VEHICLE ON THE ROADS. CAMBER, CASTER, AND TOE OF THE STEERING GEOMETRY ARE NEGATIVELY EFFECTED AND WILL RESULT IN INCREASED LIKELIHOOD OF WRECKS. I TOOK MY VEHICLE INTO THE LOCAL DODGE DEALERSHIPS IN ALASKA AND THEY ACKNOWLEDGE THE AIR RIDE SUSPENSION DOES NOT FUNCTION HERE BUT CANNOT MAKE REPAIRS. I CALLED DODGE CORPORATE LINE AND THEY ASK ME TO TAKE IT BACK TO THE SAME DEALERSHIPS THAT INFORM ME THAT THERE IS NO FIX. PLEASE ISSUE A RECALL ON THE RAM 1500 AIR RIDE SUSPENSION AS THIS IS A SERIOUS RISK TO LIFE ALLOWING THESE VEHICLES TO OPERATE IN COLD CLIMATES.

I HAVE NOTIFICATIONS OF THESE VARIOUS RECALLS AND HAVE TRIED TO GET THESE CORRECTED OR AT LEAST CHECKED OUT AT THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED MY TRUCK. FIRST I WAS TOLD THAT APPOINTMENTS WERE NOW REQUIRED. THEN I WAS ADVISED THAT 1ST COME/1ST SERVED WAS NOW REQUIRED AND FULL SCHEDULES ARE USUAL. NOW I RECEIVED ANOTHER NOTIFICATION. I CARE FOR MY RAM, BUT MY TIME IS ALSO IMPORTANT.

THE DELEARSHIP COULDN'T CLEAR MESSAGE NOW SAYING WHOLE PART RAC AND PIN NEED TO BE FIXED. THE TRUCK WAS RUNNING FINE NO ISSUES ALL OF SUDDEN GOT MESSAGE AND COULDN'T TURN STEERING WHEEL. I READ SIMILAR COMPLAINTS FROM 2015 RAM 1500 PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF THERE IS A RECALL ON THE 2014 MODEL. I WOULD UPLOAD DOCS. BUT THE DEALER HAS MY TRUCK.

POWER STEERING FAILURE - IN MOTION - ON A CITY STREET - WHILE TURNING. VEHICLE IS OUT OF INITIAL WARRANTY (STILL UNDER 100K MILE) - BUT A MAJOR COMPONENT SUCH AS POWER STEERING SHOULD NOT BE FAILING AT 83,828 ODOMETER MILES. THE ENTIRE GEAR RACK HAS TO BE REPLACED AND THE TOTAL BILL WAS $2735.85. CUSTOMER SERVICE HAS YET TO PROVIDE ANY DETAILS EXPLAINING MANUFACTURER LIFE EXPECTANCY OF THE PART. THIS VEHICLE IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION AND WELL CARED FOR - THUS THE SUBSEQUENT PHONE CALLS TO BUY MY VEHICLE FROM THE DODGE DEALERSHIP. YET, THERE IS NO ACKNOWLEDGEMENT THAT THIS PART SHOULD NOT BE FAILING AT THIS EARLY MILEAGE OR THAT THEY WILL HELP ME. THERE WAS A WIRING HARNESS ISSUE WITH THIS SAME VEHICLE THAT WAS RESOLVED UNDER WARRANTY AT APPROX 30K MILES. MY VEHICLE IS PAID FOR.

ONE MORNING IN DECEMBER OF 2017, I STARTED MY PARKED TRUCK IN THE DRIVEWAY OF MY HOME AND THE ELECTRIC STEERING STOPPED WORKING PROPERLY AT 38,000 MILES. WHETHER YOU ARE GOING FORWARD OR IN REVERSE, THE STEERING IS VERY HARD TO TURN. YOU MUST SLOW DOWN TO 10 MPH OR LESS TO BE ABLE TO TURN STEERING WHEEL AND MAINTAIN YOUR LANE. OTHERWISE YOUR TURNS WILL BE TO WIDE AND CROSS OVER INTO OPPOSING LANE OF TRAFFIC.
Mileage: 38,000
YESTERDAY WHILE ROUNDING CORNER ON HIGHWAY VEHICLE STEERING WHEEL SUDDENLY DID NOT WANT TO TURN FELT LIKE IT WAS BINDING UP. HAD TO USE BOTH HANDS PULLING HARD ON WHEEL TO MAKE CORNER AND THEN THE WHEEL DID NOT CENTER ON ITS OWN. I WENT OUT OF MY LANE OF TRAFFIC FORTUNATELY NO ONE WAS IN THE OTHER LANE. STEERING RETURNED TO NORMAL FOR.A FEW MINUTES THEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN ON EXIT RAMP. IT HAS HAPPENED ON AND OFF MULTIPLE TIMES. THERE IS NO WARNING BEFORE IT HAPPENS AND ELECTRIC ASSIST WARNING LIGHT HAS NEVER ACTIVATED WHEN THIS HAS OCCURRED. I AM CURRENTLY AT LOCAL REPAIR SHOP HAVING THE TRUCK LOOKED AT. IN THE PAST I OWNED A TOYOTA PICKUP WITHOUT POWER STEERING AND THIS IS 20 TIMES MORE DIFFICULT TO CONTROL WHEN LOSING THE ELECTRIC ASSIST. THIS HAPPENS ON THE HIGHWAY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AS WELL AS ON CITY STREETS. IF CAN HAPPEN ON JUST GENTLE BENDS IN THE ROADWAY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS OR LOW SPEED TURNS. THE STEERING IS JUST AS DIFFICULT TO MOVE NO MATTER THE SPEED WHEN IT OCCURS. STEERING WHEEL FEELS LIKE IT'S STUCK BUT WILL MOVE WITH A LOT OF FORCE FROM BOTH HANDS. I ALMOST HIT THE CURB AT LOW SPEED ON THE WAY TO THE REPAIR SHOP THIS MORNING.

IN EARLY 2018 I STARTED TO NOTICE THAT THE STEERING ON MY TRUCK WOULD "GUM UP". AS YOU STARTED TO MAKE A TURN THE STEERING WOULD BE FINE BUT THEN AS YOU CONTINUED THROUGH THE TURN IT WOULD TAKE MORE EFFORT TO TURN THE WHEEL. IT NEVER COMPLETELY LOCKED UP BUT THEN GO BACK TO NORMAL. TO ME IT SEEMED THAT THE POWER STEERING PUMP WAS FAILING OR LOW ON FLUID. WHEN I CHECKED I FOUND THAT THERE IS NO PUMP BUT AN ELECTRONIC MOTOR ASSIST FOR THE STEERING. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR REGULAR SERVICE AND THEY CHECKED IT OUT BUT SAID THAT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE MY COMPLAINT. I TRIED TO INVESTIGATE WHEN IT WOULD HAPPEN BUT THERE WAS NO COMMON THING. ON APRIL 14TH I WAS DRIVING ON AN INTERSTATE HIGHWAY AND NOTICED THAT EVEN WHILE TRACKING IN A STRAIGHT LINE THE TRUCK STEERING WOULD GUM UP . AS LONG AS I THINK ABOUT IT I DON'T WORRY BUT I AM AFRAID THAT IT WILL FAIL COMPLETELY. I TOOK IT DIRECTLY TO THE DEALER AND THEY HAD NO ONE TO LOOK AT IT. I TOOK IT BACK TO DEALER ON THE 17TH BUT AGAIN I COULD FEEL IT GOING BUT NOTHING WHILE I HAD THE MECHANIC IN THE TRUCK. SOMETIMES I CAN FEEL IT WHILE STATIONARY AND JUST TURNING THE WHEEL. I HAVE NOTICED THAT IT GOES AWAY ON RAINY DAYS. ALMOST LIKE THE STEERING IS GETTING LUBRICATED BUT ONCE THE WEATHER IS DRY FOR A FEW DAYS THE GUMMY FEELING COMES BACK. THE DEALER DID SAY THAT THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING UNIT DID NOT LOOK LIKE IT WAS LEAKING BUT WHEN I WAS UNDERNEATH THE TRUCK I SAW THAT THE RUBBER BOOTS ON BOTH SIDES OF THE UNIT APPEARED TO BE STAINED (SEE PIX)

THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING FAILED ON THE TRUCK AT 60,000 MILES. THERE WAS NO POWER STEERING ON THE TRUCK. IT WAS DETERMINED THE CONTROL MODULE FAILED BUT WAS NOT REPLACEABLE BY ITSELF SINCE THE ENTIRE STEERING RACK UNIT IS SEALED SO I HAD TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE RACK. THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN SEEN IN OTHER MODEL YEARS OF THIS TRUCK AND RAM ACTUALLY ISSUED A RECALL ON ONLY 440 2016 MODELS UNDER RECALL S19 AND NHTSA CAMPAIGN 16V167000. THIS IS A FAULTY DESIGN AND CAN OBVIOUSLY BE VERY DANGEROUS LOSING POWER STEERING WHILE DRIVING. POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE IS FAILING INTERMITTENTLY IN COLD TEMPERATURES. SO FAR, THE FAILURES HAVE ALL BEEN ON STARTUP, BUT IT IS GETTING PROGRESSIVELY WORSE. THE MODULE HAS FAILED 8 TIMES NOW, RENDERING THE POWER STEERING NON-FUNCTIONAL. THE RAM DEALERSHIP HAS VERIFIED THE COMPUTER SYSTEM CODE INDICATING THE FAILURE. THE TRUCK HAS 32,000 MILES AND RAM IS REFUSING TO REPLACE IT UNDER WARRANTY. THEY INSIST THAT IT MUST FAIL COMPLETELY BEFORE THEY WILL REPLACE IT. THIS IS CLEARLY A DEFECTIVE PART, AND IT IS CLEARLY A SAFETY ISSUE. RAM CUSTOMER SERVICE HAS ACKNOWLEDGED THAT IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND THAT THEY ARE POTENTIALLY ENDANGERING LIVES, AND YET THEY REFUSE TO DO THE WARRANTY WORK. I SEE OTHER REPORTS HERE OF THESE UNITS FAILING WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION, CAUSING A CRASH. FOR RAM TO INSIST THAT IT FAILS COMPLETELY MEANS THEY ARE RISKING A CRASH TO SAVE A FEW DOLLARS ON WARRANTY WORK. I DON'T KNOW HOW THAT CAN EVEN BE LEGAL.

WHILE DRIVING MY VEHICLE ON A LIMITED ACCESS HIGHWAY THE STEERING WHEEL SUDDENLY PULLED VIOLENTLY TO THE RIGHT. I WAS DRIVING IN THE RIGHT HAND LANE AND THE VEHICLE MADE A EXTREME TURN TO THE RIGHT STRIKING THE GUARDRAIL. THE VEHICLE THEN REBOUNDED OFF THE RAILING CAUSING THE REAR BUMPER TO STRIKE THE RAILING. THE VEHICLE THEN REBOUNDED INTO THE DRIVING LANES BEFORE I COULD REGAIN CONTROL. I THEN PULLED THE VEHICLE ONTO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROADWAY TO SURVEY DAMAGE. AT THAT TIME I NOTICED THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL FAULT LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED ON THE DASH. SINCE THIS WAS A ONE VEHICLE ACCIDENT WITH NO INJURIES I DID NOT CONTACT EMERGENCY SERVICES. AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT I WAS DRIVING 60 MPH. THE POSTED SPEED LIMIT ON THE ROADWAY. WHILE DRIVING TO WORK ON A SMOOTH STRAIGHT ROAD, THE EMERGENCY INFORMATION SCREEN IN MY GAUGE CLUSTER STARTED FLASHING AND STATED "SERVICE POWER STEERING" "SERVICE ELECTRONIC BRAKE SYSTEM" "SERVICE ELECTRONIC BRAKE CONTROLLER" "SERVICE TRANSMISSION" IT ALSO STATED TO NOT SHIFT TO PARK AS SHIFTING MAY BECOME INOPERABLE ONCE STOPPED. MY POWER STEERING WAS GONE, MY GAS PEDAL WAS INOPERABLE AND BRAKING WAS VERY WEAK. I HAD TO MUSCLE THE TRUCK TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND SLOWLY COME TO A STOP AND SHIFTED INTO PARK. I TURNED THE KEY FOB TO OFF AND LET IT SIT FOR A FEW MINUTES. WHEN I TRIED TO RESTART THE VEHICLE IT WOULD NOT EVEN ATTEMPT TO TURN OVER. NOW, MY KEY FOB WAS ALSO STUCK IN THE IGNITION AND WOULD NOT TURN TO THE OFF POSITION TO REMOVE THE KEY. I CALLED CHRYSLER ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE AND SAT ON HOLD FOR 55 MINUTES BEFORE THE FIRST PERSON ANSWERED THE PHONE. AFTER 10-15 MIN WE HAD A TOW TRUCK SET UP BUT THAT WOULDN'T BE THERE FOR ANOTHER 75 MINUTES. SO FROM THE TIME I CALLED TO WHEN THE TOW TRUCK ACTUALLY ARRIVED IT WAS ALMOST 2.5 HOURS! GOOD THING IT WASN'T THE MIDDLE OF WINTER. THEY REPLACED THE IGNITION MODULE. THAT WASN'T THE PROBLEM. THEN THEY THOUGHT IT WAS THE BCM. THAT DIDN'T WORK AS THEY NOW "ONLY HAVE COMMUNICATION WITH HALF OF THE VEHICLE". I'M STILL NOT SURE WHAT THAT MEANS BUT THAT'S WHERE WE ARE AT DAY 7. I DO NOT WANT THIS VEHICLE BACK. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING IT IF THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT HAS NO IDEA HOW TO PROPERLY FIX IT OR EVEN KNOW IF THEY HAVE PROPERLY FIXED IT WITH THEIR GUESS AND CHECK METHODS. IF I HAD BEEN TRAVELING AT HIGHER SPEEDS OR PULLING A TRAILER WHEN THIS HAPPENED, THE OUTCOME COULD HAVE BEEN DISASTEROUS! OR EVEN WORSE IF MY WIFE HAD BEEN DRIVING IN 4WD AND LOST POWER STEERING THERE IS NO WAY SHE COULD HAVE PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER SAFELY. HUGE SAFETY CONCERN THAT I WANT NO PART OF. THIS IS ON TOP OF THE 5+ RECALLS.

I CALL ON TUESDAY SEPT.8, 2015 AND AM TOLD THEY HAD TO ORDER AND WILL BE REPLACING THE RACK AND PINION SET UP IN THE STEERING . I HAVE BROUGHT MY TRUCK BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP DUE TO A RATTLE IN MY STEERING WHEEL. THE RATTLE OCCURS WHEN TRAVELING FROM A STANDSTILL UP TO 30 MILES PER HOUR. THE DEALER WAS MADE AWARE OF THIS SITUATION THE WEEK THAT THE BOUGHT THE TRUCK. IT HAS BEEN BROUGHT BACK 5 TIMES, AND EACH TIME THEY ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH MY STEERING SYSTEM. THEY STATED THAT THEY COULD HEAR THE RATTLE, AND WOULD FIX IT. THE FIRST 3 TIMES IT WAS BROUGHT TO THE DEALER, THEY SENT ME AWAY STATING THAT THEY CORRECTED THE ISSUE. ONCE I GOT BACK HOME, AND ENCOUNTERED BUMPY ROADS, THE RATTLE WAS STILL THERE. THE FOLLOWING 2 TIMES IT WAS AT THE DEALERSHIP, THEY SENT ME AWAY STATING THAT THEY WOULD NOT WORK ON MY VEHICLE ANY FURTHER BECAUSE THEY DID NOT KNOW WHAT WAS CAUSING THE RATTLE. THEY HAVE RESEATED BOTH THE PASSENGER SIDE AND DRIVERS SIDE AIR BAGS, THEY TIGHTENED A WIRE HARNESS ON MY STEERING COLUMN, THEN THEY REPLACED MY STEERING COLUMN COUPLING, AND FINALLY THEY REPLACED THE ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN. THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THEY ARE TRYING TO FIX. THEY STATED TO ME THAT THE KNOW THERE IS AN ISSUE, BUT DO NOT KNOW WHAT IS CAUSING IT. THIS ISSUE COULD VERY WELL BE A SAFETY ISSUE, AS IT HAS TO DO WITH MY STEERING SYSTEM. MY VEHICLE HAS 5000 MILES ON IT, AND HAS BEEN BACK TO THE DEALER SHIP 5 TIMES. I HAVE OWNED THE VEHICLE FOR 5 MONTHS.

TRAVELING WEST ON I-4, ORLANDO, FL BETWEEN SAND LAKE ROAD AND EXIT TO 528E AT 1:25 PM IN LEFT HAND LANE. I LOST CONTROL FOR THAT INSTANT AND MY TRUCK STRUCK THE VEHICLE TO MY LEFT IN THE REAR BY THE TAIL LIGHTS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. I WAS ABLE TO REGAIN CONTROL OF MY TRUCK AND PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AS DID THE OTHER VEHICLE. MY COMPLAINT CENTERS ON WHY THE TRUCK SUDDENLY ACCELERATED; WHAT WAS THE "THUMP" THAT I FELT; IS THERE A PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION (NEW DESIGN FOR 2014) AND THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL; WHAT WOULD CAUSE THIS SUDDEN ACCELERATION? HAVE THERE BEEN OTHER COMPLAINTS OF THIS NATURE ON THIS OR OTHER CHRYSLER MODELS? PLEASE RESPOND ASAP.

EACH TIME CARL BURGER DODGE SAYS THAT MY TRUCK DOESNT "CODE" AND THEY CANT RECREATE THE ISSUE. I PROVIDED THEM WITH VIDEO'S OF WHAT HAPPENS THAT I FOUND ON YOUTUBE AND THATS WHEN THEY STARTED A "STAR" CASE WITH CHRYSLER MAIN. MY CHRYSLER CUSTOMER CARE ASSISTANCE ADMITS THERE IS AN ISSUE SAYING "THE TECH'S ARE WORKING ON IT" BUT THEN SAYS THE BEST THEY CAN DO IS "GIVE ME 3 FREE YEARS OF OIL CHANGES". TODAY IS JULY 10, 2015. THE VEHICLE IS 2014 DODGE RAM 1500 CREW CAB PICKUP PURCHASE NEW. ON THE STEERING WHEEL WHERE THE HORN AND AIRBAG ARE LOCATED THE SEAM CRACKED OR SEPARATED STARTING JUST BELOW THE LETTER "S" STAMPED ON IT FOR SRS AIRBAGS AND IF YOU ARE SITTING IN THE DRIVERS SEAT AND LOOKING AT THE WHEEL THE CRACK OR SEPARATION CONTINUES FROM THAT POINT AND RUNS STRAIGHT TO THE RIGHT AND UP TO THE END OF THE COVER FOR THE SRS AIRBAG IN THE STEERING WHEEL. WHEN THE HORN IS PRESSED THE CASING WHICH IS CRACKED OR SEPARATED SCRATCHES YOU OR YOUR FINGERS GET STUCK OR CAUGHT INSIDE THE OPENING. THE DEALER STATED THAT BECAUSE THE MILEAGE IS OVER THE 3 YEAR 36000 MILE WARRANTY IT WOULD NOT BE COVERED. HOWEVER, IF WE AGREED TO HAVE ADDITIONAL MAINTENANCE DONE TODAY UNRELATED TO THE FREE OIL CHANGE THEY WOULD COVER THE COST TO REPAIR THE DEFECT. PLEASE NOTE THE DEALER CONFIRMED IT WAS A MANUFACTURED DEFECT. I CONTACTED CHRYSLER AND FILED A COMPLAINT WITH THEM.

I HAVE AN ALIGNMENT ISSUE WITH VEHICLE THAT IS CAUSING FEATHERING OF RIGHT FRONT TIRE THAT HAS NOT/CANNOT BE CORRECTED BY ALIGNMENT IN TWO ATTEMPTS TO DATE. DEALING WITH MANUFACTURER CUSTOMER CARE, MY ASSIGNED CASE NUMBER IS 26625890. MANUFACTURER HAS NOW SUGGESTED A ROAD FORCE BALANCE OF ALL FOUR TIRES, AFTER TWO ALIGNMENTS HAVE FAILED TO CORRECT FEATHERING PROBLEM. HAVE MONITORED HEAT BUILDUP ON THAT TIRE IN RELATION TO THE OTHER THREE AND FIND HEAT BUILDUP EXCEEDS 110 DEGREES ABOVE OTHER THREE. HAVE ALSO DISCOVERED THREE OTHER TRUCKS OF SAME MANUFACTURER, MODEL THAT ARE EXHIBITING SAME PROBLEM, ONE OWNER ALSO HAS OPEN CASE WITH CUSTOMER CARE AS WELL, HIS CASE NUMBER IS 26745473. WE BOTH SEEM TO BE GETTING NOTHING BUT LIP SERVICE FROM DEALERS AND NOT MUCH MORE FROM MANUFACTURER, WITH NO SINCERE EFFORT TO GET TO ROOT CAUSE OF PROBLEM. I BELIEVE THAT THIS CONDITION EXTENDS TO MORE TRUCKS THAN MINE, AND WARRANTS FURTHER INVESTIGATION. IT APPEARS BASED ON MY DEALINGS WITH MANUFACTURER AND DEALERS THAT THEY ARE NOT ONLY UNABLE TO CORRECT PROBLEM, I THINK THEY ARE UNAWARE THAT A PROBLEM EVEN EXISTS. MY CONCERN ON THIS ISSUE IS SAFETY RELATED, HAVING A FEAR OF A CATASTROPHIC TIRE FAILURE, DUE TO HEAT AND TIRE PRESSURE BUILD UP, AS WELL AS FEATHERING AS INDICATION OF A SUSPENSION PROBLEM. THIS ISSUE CAUSING ABNORMAL FORCES BEING APPLIED TO RIGHT FRONT TIRE. I HAVE ALL ALIGNMENT RECORDS AND DEALER SERVICE ORDERS AVAILABLE FOR YOUR REVIEW. I HAVE CONTACTED YOU IN COMPLIANCE WITH MANUFACTURER RECOMMENDATIONS FOUND IN LEMON LAW AND OWNERS BOOKLETS PROVIDED BY MANUFACTURER.
