Power steering fails as the “ Service Power Steering” & the steering wheel with exclamation mark lights up. It’s most common during temperatures of 70 degrees or less. Power steering comes back after engine is warmed up for approximately 5 minutes before needing to drive it.
Electric Power Steering has stopped working completely. A service Power steering warning has popped up on the dashboard.
The contact owns a 2016 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while attempting to make a left turn, the vehicle lost power steering functionality. The message "Service Power Steering Unit" was displayed. The contact stated that the failure had occurred on two different occasions. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed and determined that the steering rack and pinion needed to be replaced. No further information was available. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 200,000.

The contact owns a 2016 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while in reverse (R) and moving at approximately 4 MPH, the steering wheel had frozen, and he was not able to turn the wheel. The contact stated that he had crashed into his other vehicle. The contact stated that the front end of the other vehicle was not damaged; however, the vehicle he was driving in had damage to the bumper and tailgate. The contact stated that the traction warning light had illuminated after the crash. The contact stated that his insurance company had the vehicle towed to a collision shop. The contact was advised by the collision shop that, before he could get the collision damage repaired, the power steering failure needed to be repaired. The contact stated that he had the vehicle towed to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the power steering assist had failed, and he needed to take the vehicle to a dealer. The contact had the vehicle towed to a dealer, however, the vehicle was not yet diagnosed and was not repaired. The contact had researched online and related the failure to an open NHTSA Action Number: RQ23003 (Steering). The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 88,000.

Steering wheel locks up when cold
Service power steering light comes on and steering wheel doesn’t move when car is cold. Turn car off and restart and is fine with no lights.
I was attempting to make a left hand turn when my power steering failed. Continued to be out for several more minutes of driving and then it restored itself. Has not been a problem while driving the vehicle today.
Power steering seems to have a defect. There have been other Dodge Rams affected by a power steering recall. When we called our local Dodge service provider they stated that our VIN was not affected by this recall, but there is definitely something wrong with our power steering. It’s very difficult to turn the vehicle and doesn’t seem safe to drive.
Loss of steering, good this I parked and back up and loss power
The contact owns a 2016 Ram 1500. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked, the contact attempted to drive to exit the residence, and the vehicle became difficult to maneuver. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle remained at the residence. A dealer was contacted; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed. The contact researched and was became aware of an unknown recall; however, the VIN was not under recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

I was getting ready to leave for work and was unable to because my steering wheel was completely locked up. Red steering wheel light flashing and message saying service power steering. The issue seems to fall under the recall on a limited number of RAM 1500s for the faulty EPS system, however mine was not included in that recall for some reason. I’m thankful I never left my driveway and it didn’t happen while driving because that would put myself and others in danger or even worse my children in danger as they ride in this truck with me on a daily basis. Chrysler needs to make this right and recall and fix the issue with the steering. I have read through countless complaints of the same issue.
I have a 2016 ram 1500 with 25,000 miles on it. the electronic steering went out on me and almost caused me to wreck into other traffic. they do have some 2016 ram trucks that have recalls on contaminated steering issues but mine did not qualify. after doing research it seems many other owners are in the same situation with the steering going out for no reason. I took the truck to the dealer and had recalls done to it but the steering was not on my trucks recall list. The issue is a danger and could have caused a really bad highway accident due to the steering going out. I think this issue needs to be told before more highway accidents or fatalities happen before this issue is addressed. Thanks
On [XXX] the power steering icon on my dash turned on. I was parked at post office and had to call tow truck as I could not turn the wheel. I was fortunate that I was not driving as a week prior I was driving from Morro Bay to Bakersfield, I currently am dealing with tennis elbow and it would have been impossible to steer if it failed while driving. The truck is currently at my local dealership and they have verified that it needs a replacement EPS rack to resolve the issue. I was on my way home from work, stopped at the local post office and my traction control light flashed for a few minutes. I arrived at local post office, turned truck off and when I returned to my vehicle to turn on the red light signaling that power steering had failed. There was no warning light until the steering will lock up and then the light will come on. Which is a life safety hazard because we went into on coming traffic because there was no steering ability. When we turn the truck off the steering will come back. But we lost control of the steering once again. Now the truck has no power steering at all. There is power to the system but continues to fail on the steering system because the light only comes on after the problem. This has happened to well maintained vehicle.. thanks in advance
This is the third complaint I have filed. Now the steering is stiff and makes noise. A mechanic advised that the issue is the ABS module. Dealers still say the ABS module is still unavailable. NHTSA needs to order a recall based on uncertain dependability of steering. Owners are presuming that trucks with faulty modules are safe to operate until NHTSB orders a recall.
The contact owns a 2016 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while his wife was driving approximately 65 MPH and driving over a bump in the road, the steering wheel seized while going around a corner. The driver was able to avoid a crash and moved over safely. There was an alarm activated inside the vehicle. The message to check the power steering was displayed. After waiting approximately 5-10 minutes, the message disappeared. The contact linked the failure NHTSA Action Number: RQ23003 (Steering). The contact called the local dealer and was provided with the cost for a diagnostic test and an estimate for the repair. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 148,000.

About a week ago I was headed to work and I noticed that the steering was HARD (no grinding or otherwise noticeable noises), like trying to lift bricks every time you make a slight turn. Obviously a pwoer steering issue (I think!)... After a few minutes though it went back to normal. After three days it came back. Today its 95 degrees outside, circuit board inside the eps couldn't take the heat so it completely stopped working
Steering Sensor leading to ABS malfunctioning. Including Instrument dash lights ...Parking Break, Anti Skid, and ABS. Traction control does not work. Cruise does not work....All fuses are good. Cannot clear Dash lights.
Power steering failure. Luckily for us, the failure happened while still in our driveway, so no accident or collision occurred. We had warning messages for ESC, hill start assist, and several other systems, but nothing for EPS (electric power steering). The dealership was able to repair the problem by replacing the steering rack and two associated wiring harnesses. The mechanic noted water and a lot of corrosion in the wiring connector on the steering rack. This vehicle has only had normal water exposure (rain and puddles on the road).
Transmission won't shift out of second gear, and a code showed up U0402 in order for it to shift gear you have to disconnected the battery cable wait a few minutes then connect the battery back this will reset the computer then it will shift gear, while driving at 45 the truck suddenly stop making it feel like the transmission was about to fall out Now the EPS system while driving the steering wheel lock up, when I took it to dealership it sat in the shop about 45 minutes to and hour and they said ok you ready to go don't give me a copy of what was supposed to be done
I was driving my 2016 ram 1500 on the highway when my steering gave out due to a faulty electronic power steering rack. I lost control of the vehicle and it almost ended in an accident. I had my family in my vehicle. This is completely unacceptable. I talked to Chrysler about this issue and they said it does not fall under the recall. Although I believe it should due to the rack going bad because of water getting in due to a faulty seal.
This vehicle has a faulty ABS module that Ram doesn't make the part for. The part 68292756AA been shown on backorder for over 1yr. After chatting with a Ram customer service agent I found out this part has been discontinued and was advised that I try an aftermarket part. Guess what ? The aftermarket part is not compatible with the program download. 😡This is unacceptable. There seems there is forums after forums with people in the same predicament. This issue really needs to be investigated .
The contact owns a 2016 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at 65 MPH, the vehicle lost power steering functionality. No warning lights were illuminated. The contact was able to continue driving; however, the vehicle vibrated abnormally. The contact attempted to veer to the right or left, and the vehicle became difficult to maneuver. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the steering unit had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. Upon further investigation, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V167000 (STEERING); however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the recall had expired. The vehicle remained at the residence unrepaired. The approximate failure mileage was 194,000.

The power steering goes out and make it very hard to drive
I drove through standing water in a parking lot and a few minutes later the steering got funny.the next day it was no power steering, then the steering completely locked up could not turn steering wheel at all.
I believe my truck should be included in recall s19/nhtsa 16v 167: I turned on my truck , and the EPS warning light came on. The truck lost all power steering. The next day it worked. Then after idling in a parking lot, I tried to drive and the column had a shake. Then the power steering went completely out
Truck EPS failed while driving creating a dangerous situation but turck falls outside of NHTSA 16V-167 recall.
Power steering assist quit working while driving. It appears to be an electrical problem because it works when restarting engine before it goes out again. There are no apparent mechanical issues with it.
We were driving down the interstate and my truck went into limp mode. This almost caused an accident. We were able to get off the road and into a parking lot but the whole truck locked up. The dash started saying "Service Throttle Positioning System" and the gear shift locked into park. The truck got stuck in first gear and I was able to get out of the way before we were rear ended. We had the truck towed to a truck shop and the codes had gone away. They drove it and while they were testing it it did the same thing to them. Based on research this part was on recall on the Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.0L Eco Diesel for causing this same issue with the crank shaft tone wheel (reluctor wheel) but to this date there has been none on my truck. We are now out $3400 for the repair with Stellantis knowing they have had issues with this part on the other models with the same engine.
I am having trouble with the electronic power steering. The power steering goes in and out, making it difficult to turn the steering wheel, making myself feel at risk while in traffic. The problem has not been confirmed yet by a dealer for my specific VIN.
Intermittent steering issues, loss of power steering, hard to steer vehicle.
The steering is difficult as though the power steering is gone at low speeds. My battery died and after disconnecting it and replacing the battery, the power steering was fine for a few days. It then went back to not working and hasn’t worked since. Steering the truck around turns through a city is difficult when power steering isn’t available. No warning lights or check engine lights have been illuminated.
About 2 months ago, the power steering assist stopped working and has been intermittent since. As I drove it to the dealership, I splashed into a puddle and the power steering returned. The dealership ran a check and found the code C2128 but said they could not replicate the problem. They found the PSA module cover was rusty. They wanted to charge $3,500 to replace the module as well as $2,300 to repair both front struts. I took my truck back (power steering inoperable) and researched parts, repair shops and recalls. There is a recall for PSA failure of the year of my vehicle though my truck is not included. I seem to have all the same issues as reported in the NHTSA recall. The power steering is presently still intermittent (wet weather seems to effect it) and feels generally unsafe as it fails and returns without warning. No other symptoms or indications before, during or after failure(s).
While driving My Dodge Ram 1500 on the freeway at 65 MPH the steering wheel locked up and I had no control over my vehicle. The vehicle put everyone on the freeway in danger, including myself. Each time this happened the engine light and the light for the traction control system came on. This has happened multiple times and each time I have reported it to the dealership, they say they can not help me unless it happens while they are driving it. Please address this before someone gets hurt because of my steering column locking up.
The electronic power steering rack went out making steering very difficult and upon doing research discovered there is a recall for this exact problem but by the recall doesn't include my VIN number
The contact owns a 2016 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving 55 MPH, the vehicle lost power steering functionality with the power steering warning light illuminated. The contact continued to drive the vehicle however, the steering wheel became extremely stiff. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed, and the contact was advised that the steering unit had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 56,000.

Saturday [XXX], around noon, I was driving my family and my electronic power steering went out. The steering wheel became to stiff during a turn into a voting station, and I almost ran over a curb hitting pedestrians. I turned off the vehicle and restarted it and a red power steering indicated lamp lit on the dashboard, and the vehicle was difficult to steer. The mechanic I called recommended I check NHTSA Saftey Recalls, and found this for 2016 Ram Trucks: ":16V-167 / S19 Recall Summary The power steering system may stop functioning because of a short circuit in the electric power steering (EPS) control circuit board. This would increase risk of a crash." However, me VIN is not covered in the recall. I called RAM to let them know and opened a case, and they recommended I report this to NHTSA . I was not able to get the truck to a RAM dealer, but the mechanic I took it to said that the electronics have failed and the entire steering assembly needs to be replaced... I was driving my Ram 1500 when all of a sudden my steering wheel locked in place and I could not control my steering wheel. This was a bit frightening as I did not know what had happened. I was able to bring my truck back home and called a mechanic, the mechanic told me it is a rack and pinion issue with my truck and after investigation we found there was a recall on a few of these Rams surprisingly when looking it up it shows “no unrepaired recalls” I find it hard to believe and really frustrating as this could’ve caused a really bad accident had even cost me my life.
- Power Steering Failed - Was driving highway speed - Suddenly steering wheel stiffened/locked - Dashboard warning light cam on and audible alert stating "Service Power Steering" Truck was able to be guided manually (very difficult - inexperienced driver or individual with less strength would not be able to turn steering wheel ) - not yet - This happened Sunday [XXX] - Truck is currently in the drive at my residence. - Warning lamp and audible alert - At time of incident - I did notice the steering was a little wonky 2 - 3 days prior. (Believed to be tie-rod/Ball joint etc.) Had called local garage to set up inspection (Due in May) to check front end. Below it request (how fast were we traveling) I mention this because, On Saturday evening [XXX] Between [XXX] and [XXX] We were traveling highway speeds 65 - 70 (Flow of traffic) in low visibility (Dark/Rainy) If this has occurred during that period there likely would be "Additional Details" to provide in the below. I have electronic steering in my 2016 dodge ram it is failing when driving the truck has under 100,000 miles on it. It just happened all at once while driving to work one morning.
Power Steering issues that have been known for multiple Dodge Ram 1500 Trucks but apparently not my specific Truck? I have contacted multiple shops to get quotes to fix this problem. It has been known to be a problem for multiple Ram 1500 Trucks including my year but for whatever reason my truck is not listed as under this recall? There was absolutely nothing wrong with my vehicle and my vehicle has been very well maintained with all records in hand. Out of nowhere getting in my truck the steering does not work. No accidents or any damage, just random failure to the power steering. This caused my family and I to barely be able to steer my truck onto the main road from our house and back to the home safely. It was very random as this was the first and only time this occurred. Curious as to why my vehicle is not covered under the recall that is listed for all other Dodge Ram 1500 Trucks for the same issues? This is not a normal thing to have fail.
The power steering keeps going out and coming back
Power steering fails intermittently while driving. Been told it the EPSboard but I'm not part of the recall for some reason
Was driving and the power steering went out, cannot turn the steering wheel causing extreme danger to my family in the car and others driving as I could not turn to get off the road. Huge Hazard.
Steering rack went out around 70k miles
My power steering assist failed. This put my life and my kids lives at risk, as well as anyone else on the rroad.
The contact owns a 2016 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 10 MPH, the steering wheel seized. Electronic power steering control has starting to glitch, bind, lock, and restrict turning. Occasionally it will be extremely rigid from one side and then it will proceed to be extremely loose and normal to another side. Varying at different times, and occurs randomly. Sometime it will lock in place while driving and other times it will be completely normal altogether.
My 2016 Ram 1500 is having all of the problems that the S19 Electric Power Steering Recall states will happen when it's failing and is greatly affecting the steering when I drive it . At times it's all I can do to steer it . I first ran my Vin for recalls and it showed None. I've reported it to the FCA and questioned them as to why my 2016 Ram was not included in this recall when it's clearly doing everything that it says in the recall, The ladies response when I asked if I was going to have to be in an accident and get injured or killed, was that she wasn't saying that in so many words but yes . I want something done about this because I shouldn't have to pay for a repair that is clearly in a recall for the 2016 year Ram 1500 which is what mine is. They are welcomed to look at my truck anytime and I'm going to have it taken to the dealership so I can have documentation of the problem .
The contact owns a 2016 Ram 1500. The contact stated that when the vehicle was started, the power steering warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the EPS system needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was then towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the EPS system needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 220,000.

The electric power steering system failed while I was driving. I was travelling at approximately 20mph the first time it stopped working and had just finished a turn onto a residential street. The dash said "service power steering" and the check engine light came on. I pulled the vehicle over, turned it off, then turned it on again and the power steering started working again but the check engine light was still on. Later that day, the check engine light turned itself off. I was driving on the freeway later that day and lost the power steering again travelling approximately 55mph. The vehicle became nearly impossible to steer and put myself and others on the road around me at risk due to the speed I was travelling and lack of control I had when the steering went out. Fortunately I was able to pull over and restart the vehicle and regain power steering to get my vehicle home. I have not taken the vehicle to a dealer yet.
1. I believe my power steering is not working properly. I can feel it. 2. I believe it is getting worse and I could get into an accident. 3. No 4. No 5. No. I just feel it getting hard to steer.
EPS went out while driving. No warning lights
The contact owns a 2016 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving at approximately 35 MPH, the vehicle became difficult to maneuver. The failure occurred on several occasions. The contact stated that the Electronic Power Steering (EPS) warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken back to the residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 11,238.

Partial loss of power steering while driving.
While driving almost complete loss of steering. Very hard to turn. After a battery reset, it corrected, but very short lived. I was able to get the vehicle home, but has been undriveable since. Now there is absolutely no steering at all, the rack and pinion is completely locked. The only warning light is the "service power steering" light on the dash, no codes in the computer. Through research, I found that there is a known issue with the computer board on the rack and pinion which is known to cause this problem. The only solution is to replace the rack and pinion with a new one. There is already a recall for vehicles that predate mine, but mine is not included. I have just ordered a new rack and pinion and am having it replaced, but there is a significant core charge, so I will not be keeping the old one.
I lost power steering and hard to steer. I looked at fuses and f78 looked to be good. I made an appointment with Dodge dealer and when I was going to bring it steering worked. Now I need to wait to see if this issue happens again and this is dangerous while driving. There should be a recall on Module that causes this. I’ve read where this is common. We shouldn’t have to drive a vehicle with a known problem as you all are investigating this issue. Thank you!
I am having continuous problems with electric power steering! I’ve taken truck to local dealership! Hights dodge! Madison Maine! Had it inspected while under warranty! Was told no issues with it they claimed they cleaned the connections and claimed that it was working with no issues!! As soon as I left the dealership it started acting up again! The steering wheel will actually get stopped and extremely hard to turn! Almost caused several accidents! The power steering is always intermittent! But dealership says there’s nothing wrong with it! This problem could have been resolved while it was still under extended warranty! They chose not to do anything! Now it’s out of warranty I’m expected to pay for repairs now! For the same problem that I reported and had looked at by dealership! This vehicle has only 88k on it the power steering should work!! Vehicle shows no codes! Does not indicate any issues! Try to drive it and it’s like trying to steer a truck from the 50’s with no power steering! I’ve talked with many people with same vehicle they all report same issue with electric power steering not functioning properly!! It will end up causing injuries or death when the power steering decides it doesn’t want to work!!! Accidents will happen no doubt!!’
Power steering quits working while driving.
Power steering (EPS) warning flashes when the temperature drops below 32 degrees. Wheels immediately become difficult to turn.
Power steering completely went out, without warning, while driving 55 mph. No prior warning - all of a sudden a red light came on with exclamation point saying the power steering must be serviced. Incredibly difficult to steer / drive it to a certified Dodge dealership. A quick inspection found the problem to be: Electric power steering gear unit must be replaced. Estimated price quote for MOPAR replacement part and labor is $3000+
On [XXX] my power steering system completely froze in sub-0 temperatures. The wheels were unable to steer right or left. After idling for some time, it unfroze resulting in a grinding noise and very stiff steering. This has continued where the steering freezes in cold temperatures and continues to grind. The vehicle was brought to Main Motor in Johnstown NY (dealer) to inspect this and they determined that the Steering Rack (which includes the EPS) had failed- mainly the steering gear. The truck has 88,000 miles. This is a sealed, unserviceable system and should not fail at this point. The dealer price for a replacement part was $3010 plus labor. As the truck had been out of warranty for a month, I brought it to an independent shop for confirmation and they will be completing the repair. These steering systems are a known issue, I spoke to the consumer complaint department at Ram and through the dealer. Neither wanted to rectify the situation at their own cost. Steering issues with power steering not working properly.
Intermittently failure of my power steering. Fluid is full, all components appear fine when inspected by mechanic. Upon further research discovered could be an issue with the circuit board. Unable to drive my truck due to the lack of power steering causing a major potential safety issue.
There’s numerous reports with the same year , make, and model regarding power steering issues and Dodge doesn’t seem to do anything regarding it . My power steering is out and it’s a huge safety issue because it went out on me while driving on the freeway and it’s happend to thousands of more Drivers as well from what I’m reading
The power steering goes in and out intermittently, while making aturn the power steering went out making it difficult to steer, i crossed the double yellow line stopping just short of the curb. if there was a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction i definitely would of collided. it was 5 am and traffic was slow. it appears this is a known problem for RAM trucks . And there appears to be a NHTSA investigation open.
The power steering quit the steering was very different to use and make turns. There is a steering wheel icon in red and message that says to service power steering. I took into dealer after a day they got the code to reset I drove home and the code came back on and I lost power steering again and the steering icon is back on. The dealer says you will have to replace the power steering module which doesn’t seam right if they can temporarily get it to clear
I am experiencing the loss of Power Steering I have the Electronic Power Steering issue that a lot of people are having. I have been to 2 mechanics and one being the dealer that says the power steering is faulty and its the same issue that a lot of others are having but Ram tells me that my truck is just out of the recall dates by a couple months and there is nothing they can do they say so I am reaching out to try and get help with this as it is the same issues on the recal
The truck lost all steering capability - the RAM dealership said it needs a complete steering electric power steering system replacement, totaling over $4,000.
The contact owns a 2016 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at 20–25 MPH, the steering became inoperable. The contact was unable to control the vehicle and crashed into the curb, and the passenger side tire popped. The driver continued to drive and parked. The contact changed the tire, and upon starting the vehicle, the tire and traction control warning lights illuminated. The contact noticed the passenger side fender and rim were scraped from the cement. The contact stated that the failure was due to NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V167000 (Steering). There were no reported injuries, airbag deployment, or police report filed. The contact called the local dealer, who scheduled an appointment. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

I was driving the truck and went to make a turn and suddenly the power steering went. It was very difficult to drive and was a definite hazard to myself and others. I took the truck to the dealer where they in turn said there was not a problem with the power steering. I have included the document given to me by the dealership. Upon my own investigation the power steering has defaulted many other drivers as well. This should be a recall. I then disconnected the battery and reconnected it two days later and the power steering returned. Withing the next few days the power steering went again. This is an electrical power steering and needs to be investigated asap. Yor help in greatly appreciated. My steering wheel only turns violently to the right (I have a video that will not upload). My husband almost broke his thumb when it happened. Thankfully no one was injured. However, we were about to leave on a 1200-mile trip when this happened. This problem will not go away. Ram has refused to even look at the truck even though there is a recall on this in 1500 Ram trucks including diesels like mine, but not my vin#. There was absolutely no warning before this happened. We are grateful we were not on the highway when this happened, or I would not be able to write this to you today. I called Ram customer service on 11/6 and disconnected right when they were giving me the case number. I called back on 11/7 to get the case number and was informed that the last person never created one. She created 2 case numbers for me, 1 to look at the vehicle as this is a major safety issue and another one for my rental car expense and told me I would be contacted in 4 business days. On the 4th day I called customer support back and they told me to tow it to a local dodge dealership and confirmed which one to send it to that was close. I called to have it towed there and called customer service back to let them know and the women told me that they denied my claim on 11/8 and in addition she informed me that she also had me tow it to a non-authorized dealer. I was never notified and why did they have me tow my vehicle to a dealer if they never planned on looking at the vehicle. Also, they let me eat this cost and the cost to tow it out of there. I need my truck back and I can no longer afford the rental car in addition to $3800 (right now) to fix the truck so I am having "My Mechanic" (name of shop) fix this issue and I am paying out of pocket. However, they can only find an OEM part and I am afraid that this part may end up being faulty as well.
ABS module on the vehicle has failed. Took it to be diagnosed and was told the code was that there was an internal component failure and the module would need to be replaced as it is a common issue. Intermittent service power steering message while driving and power steering stops working making vehicle has to maneuver at low speeds. Power steering returns after the vehicle is shut off and restarted. Have not been able to be reproduced for dealer to diagnose.
There is a problem with the rackin pin power steering. My vehicle steering wheel will just stop turning without a struggle and then kick back in.
I purchased a new 2016 Dodge ram 1500 truck. I recently experienced severe steering issues which resulted and may not being able to control the steering. I had to tow the vehicle to the dealer who told me it would cost approximately $3,500 to have the electric power steering module replaced. Luckily, my steering issues occurred when I was at home and pulling into my garage. I had just gotten back from a trip and was on the interstate. If this issue had occurred on the interstate I hate to think of the problems that could have occurred. I believe that Chrysler should recall these vehicles that have the electronic steering issues or at least pay for the repairs.
The contact owns a 2016 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 15 - 20 MPH and attempting to make a left turn, the steering wheel required excessive force to maneuver. The contact was able to coast to a stop and coasted into a nearby parking lot, using excessive force to maneuver the steering wheel. A certified mechanic confirmed the vehicle was safe to drive. The vehicle was taken to another certified mechanic who was unable to determine the cause of the failure and was referred to the dealer. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who was unable to diagnose the vehicle, however, did suggest it may be a software failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 100,000.

Electronic power steering failure, trucks were recalled in 2015 through 2016. However, my trucks EPS part number is not on the recall list. I tried bringing it to Dodge and they wanted over $3000 to repair. Dodge also told me they could not guarantee me. This would fix the power steering, turn off the power steering light in the dash, and no guarantees could be made that replacing the steering column for $3800 would repair the problem! There have been over 2 million recalls on these vehicles for a failure of EPS! Total loss of control of steering, without the assist, it is almost impossible to turn the wheel of the truck, and failure while driving would surely kill the driver and everyone around them! The fact Dodge wasn’t forced to recall these vehicles is absolutely horrifying! The fact, the highway safety control does not force dodge to recall all of these vehicles is completely unacceptable! If my truck is not fixed, I will be filing a class action suit against everyone involved! $50,000 for a truck with no power steering and electric issues, and the highway safety control does nothing to hold Dodge accountable! Please call me at [XXX] if there’s any questions! If I don’t get a response, I will be reaching out to an attorney! 10/3/2024: 2016 Ram 1500 suddenly lost power steering ability while driving (55 mph), and a red steering wheel icon with an exclamation point warning light came on. We were able to safely get off the road to a parking lot. After the vehicle sat for several hours, no warning light and drove fine. The next day (10/4/24) it happened again, but thankfully it happened in our driveway. It took significant force to turn the wheel, especially when making sharp turns. It was extremely difficult to safely control the truck. I am not sure that an inexperienced driver or someone with physical limitations such as weak upper body strength would have been able to safely control or turn the vehicle. The vehicle has not been inspected by the dealer yet, but it will be soon. We have not driven the vehicle since 10/4/2024 due to this significant safety concern. We are currently contacting our insurance company for assistance with towing to a dealership. There were no warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms prior to the failure.
My power steering is randomly going out. To reset I can pull the electrical cable off the battery and reinstall.
The contact owns a 2016 Ram 1500. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle, the vehicle lost power steering functionality, and the steering wheel became difficult to turn in either direction. During the failure, the message "Service Power Steering" was displayed. The contact used a code reader to diagnose a low voltage failure to the electronic power steering module. The vehicle was later towed to the local dealer. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The contact was informed that the VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V167000 (Steering). The contact stated that the vehicle had experienced the failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was 85,000.

I have very low mileage 34,510 (2016 1500 RAM BIg Horn) on this truck & started to have power steering problems. Without notice the power steering was giving me problems & thought it was something else. Today the same problem came about but I stopped, power steering was almost NONE, had to pull over to the side of the road, turned off truck to reset problem, steering was still tuff but slowly changed ma bit. Drove few miles & afterward getting back into truck it started all over again, steering became difficult to turn & warning light came on/off. I almost crashed/hit another vehicle due to being unable to turn vehicle away. Although I took vehicle 40 days ago for an oil change, dealer did not give any notice on vehicle form of any problems, even thou I had experienced issues before hand. Will contact dealer since its a Pre-Certified purchase.
Power steering completely failed luckily in a parking lot . We took it to the local Dodge dealer and they confirmed the (EPS) electronic power steering module had failed. The entire rack has to be replaced. Some but not all 2105-16 Ram truck had a recall for this exact thing but mine is not one. Now with this same failure i would really like for somebody to take a second look to make sure mine should or shouldn't have been included on this list
When driving I lost steering and received dashboard alarm with service power steering. Turned the truck off, when I turned it back on the steering was working. A week later I lost steering again while driving.
Power steering locked up while driving. Upon investigation discovered EPS had went out and found there was a current recall on the vehicle but not my specific Vin.
I was driving the truck when the light came on for EBS (Electronic Braking System) and the steering wheel locked up then the truck dash read a warning stating "Service Power Steering". Through my research on Kelly Blue Book this is a common problem with this year make and model of Ram 1500 pickups yet mine doesn't have this as a specific recall. I also have an issue with the exhaust manifold bolts rattling loose separating the exhaust manifold separating from the rear of the engine block at the head. My father owns a 2014 Ram 1500 and had that same issue with his exhaust manifold and I know 3 other gentlemen that had the issue with the exhaust manifold I was wondering seeing as these are common problems with this generation of Ram 1500's if I could have these 3 issues put out as recalls on my specific Ram 1500 because with these common problems I feel like I shouldn't have to come out of pocket to pay for them. Please consider my complaint. Thank you.

Drove it to town. When I got back in to go home, the steering was very hard to use.
While turning left out of the school parking lot, the steering wheel locked and prevented any further steering ability while actively driving at approximately 15 miles per hour. The power steering light on the console flashed immediately prior to the event but stayed on while the truck was in motion and then finally stopped. After leaving the truck at rest and turned off for approximately 15 minutes , we were able to unlock the steering wheel and drive the vehicle home. This issue has occurred no less than 5 times in the past year, although previously the steering locked for just a few seconds.

Steering wheel locked up and the dealership stated many of these trucks have this problem, with the rack and pinion system. The part is on back order for 2 months, I would say that is a red flag. This could've been very serious.
electronic powering steering module internal code c2217-00. driving down the road and the power steering stopped working. the issue keeps occuring it will work and then go out. No leaks at the steering rack all connections at rack to are good. electronic info of the module all within normal range. nothing seemed to cause this other than possiblity of a failing eps module or need of recalibration/update.
Power steering stopped working
The electric power steering is increasing making a louder sound over the last several months. No trouble lights on dash. I have detected some steering resistance and has me concerned of failure. My VIN number doesn't qualify for the steering recall. Hoping that steering failure doesn't occur while driving vehicle and that adding this report to NTSB will help broaden the recall to include this vehicle. Inspection of vehicle is available.

While driving, dash board alert notice of shifter requiring service appeared. Message states not to take gear out of "D" until reaching desired location or may not be able to use "D" again. Later Engine, power steering, air suspension, anti skid alerts began to appear is sequence. Cruise control and other electrical feature will not work during alert. Last anywhere between 5 and 30 or more minutes. Happened 2 days ago while on vacation road trip to Gulf. In Gulf shores now. Now I get an email from dealer about purchasing car insurance repair plan. Seems odd on the timing. Please help. Vehicle will restart and go into gears. Power steering may not work for up to five minutes. Have to stop and restart. Sporadic operation. Suspect tactics by dealer repair database to get customers to buy repair insurance or get vehicle into shop/trade for new vehicle. Please help. Do not know if recent CDK hack involves my dealer.
Intermittent and random loss of electric power steering. Fuse coming off of positive battery terminal for power steering is good, and when power steering is working it functions without issue. Without sign or warning service power steering icon will flash on the dash, resulting in complete loss of power steering. This has been happening for 3 days now, and the power steering system has come back and gone back down countless times at random.
2016 Ram 1500 sports with 68k miles power steering failed randomly after never having problem. Was out on a fishing trip in Alaska and was packing up to leave and started the truck and the service power steering come on!Tried turning vehicle off and on but nothing worked and I didn’t have good service so it took me a while to contact family! I’m aware of a previous recall for this model/year but to be at 68k miles and leaving me stranded is terrible will be contacting dealership soon

I was driving truck to doctors office and the steering wheel would not turn , I slammed the brakes and barely missed a disabled women in the parking lot. A red light started flashing on the dash saying service power steering. Towed to mechanic with scan tool and said it needs a complete power steering rack. The truck only has 37,181 miles on it and is garaged since I had it. The dealer quoted 3400 dollars for repair. Called Chrysler customer service, and they said normal wear and tear. I told them I almost ran over someone and they didn't seem to care.
While driving my 2016 Dodge RAM 1500 at between 25 and 30 MPH on the street behind [XXX] my steeling wheel locked up - or loss of power steering could not turn the vehicle to the left or right. Also a large emergency light and what looked to be like a steering wheel light flashed on my dash. I stopped turned off the truck where I was and turned on the emergency flashers. Uncertain of what happened I got out of the vehicle to see if something was leaking or if I might have lost a belt. Seeing no issues i got back into the truck and started it again. The steering returned so I drove straight home. I contacted the local Ram dealer service department and they had not heard of this issue. So i google it and found that this was an issue with the 2015 2016 1500 RAM i reached out to Stellantiis and was informed to have the truck towed to the RAM dealer to have the truck evaluated. Which i did I was informed by the dealer that it was the electric steering module was defective I reached out to Ram customer service and they said it did not fall within the VIN numbers for the issue. I have the part saved if needed and I have a video of the dash on the day of the incident but can not upload it. My electric power steering quits all of the sudden while I'm driving. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. This is a big concern for me considering I have a wife and child who drive with a lot.
1. The vehicle has steering issues and is no longer drive able. Steering difficulty began in mid to late August 2023. The steering is now impossible to use and vehicle to l is rendered inoperable. 2. Since purchasing the vehicle I have noticed the transmission is having issues shifting gears. The rpm will be high at speeds of 40-60mph, and the vehicle will only shift to a different gear if I take my foot off the gas pedal for an extended period of time. I had auto mechanic troubleshoot and repair what he thought was a dirty or faulty sensor. Issue continues.

Initially while driving the steering wheel would intermittently become stiff. Noticed some difficulty backing into the carport. Yesterday, while driving, the steering wheel became stiff. When going around curves the vehicle would veer off road or into the oncoming lane. Making turns left or right was extremely difficult as there was no steering assist. NHTSA knew about the problem back in 2016, why not inspect all potential threats to life; not just 440 vehicles when a safety risk was known to exist? NHTSA Recall No. : 16V-1
Losing power steering when I'm driving.
EPS or Universal intermediate steering shaft related issue. Hard steering past 20deg
When driving and making turns, steering wheel will lock up and sometimes try and jerk the in the opposite direction as if to try and straighten itself. “Service Power Steering” warning will pop up on screen for a brief moment and go away. This problem has almost become predictable, happening with a harder turn or when at speed. Never happens when sitting still, rolling steering wheel back and forth. And it happens every day, not just a single incident.
The power steering completely stopped working. I originally noticed it was acting differently a few days prior. At that point, it was still working but, steering was ackward. The best way I can think of to describe it, is the steering wheel moved in the positions of seconds on a clock. Similar to a stepper motor. Luckily I was not driving when the complete failure happened. There would be no way to steer effectively. Today I went out for lunch, and the steering was locked up. When I tried to turn the wheel a load buzzing noise seemed to be coming from behind the steering wheel. It is currently at an auto shop but, I may move it to a dodge dealer to have a record of the problem, being there is an ongoing investigation with the NHTSA. The service power steering warning light came on after the total failure. It did not show up when it started acting up. I could possibly make it available for inspection if needed but, I need to get it back in action as soon as possible. Being I have no other vehicle.
The electronic power steering (EPS) module failed and the vehicle lost all power steering making it unsafe to drive the vehicle. The issue was confirmed after being brought to a Ram dealership to be inspected, the inspection for the vehicle confirmed an "Active" code for C2217. I was told by the dealership that the EPS Module had failed and needed to be replaced, and that the ENTIRE Rack and Pinion MUST be replaced.
Power Steering System Failure Complete Engine Failure Complete Lack of Power Check Engine Light came on March 19, 2024 and the Engine failed within 5 min of it coming on.
While driving at approximately 35 mph, the electric steering just quit working. There was a message on the dashboard that said something like "power steering fault, service needed" I was able to steer the truck with extreme difficulty into a parking lot. Called a tow truck which took 2 hours to arrive. At the time the truck arrived the power steering started functioning again. I had tried starting up the truck multiple times before the tow truck arrived with no luck in getting the electric steering working again. It just magically "fixed" itself. I feel I can't let my wife drive the truck since there would be no way she would have the strength to steer it should the truck loose steering again.
The power steering suddenly and entirely ceased to function with no prior warning whatsoever. Prior to that sudden failure there had never been anything wrong with the power steering or the steering function itself. There were no prior warning lights to the failure. Luckily the failure occurred while pulling out of a parking space at 1 mile per hour. The vehicle could then be steered only with great effort. We had the car towed to a dodge dealer and they said the rack and pinion unit needed replacement. I read online that the NHTSA opened on August 4, 2023 an investigation RQ 23-003 into this exact problem that I experienced. This ODI Resume/Investigation report indicates that this sudden or intermittent power steering failure applies to approximately 1.1 million vehicles of 2013-2016 Ram 1500s.
The contact owns a 2016 Ram 1500. The contact stated that upon the start of the vehicle, the steering wheel independently steered to the left and seized in place. The contact stated that steering wheel icon started to flash on the instrument panel with the "Power Steering Service" and "Service Power Steering" messages displayed. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where a diagnostic test was performed. The dealer determined that the Electric Power Steering (EPS) control circuit board had caused a short which resulted in the loss of power steering assist. The contact was then notified of NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V167000 (Steering) however, the vehicle was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 130,900.

Turning left out of my neighborhood, the truck veered right instead. I lost control and ran up into a yard. Mechanic diagnosed rack and pinion. There is a recall but MOPAR States my VIN isn't affected. I beg to differ as we almost lost our lives.
I am submitting this report to bring attention to an ongoing issue with the power steering system in my truck, which appears to be under investigation. Notably, a similar problem led to a recall for the same vehicle in the previous year, prompting me to contribute additional information. The problem manifests as intermittent loss of power steering, resulting in increased steering difficulty while driving, accompanied by a power steering warning indicator on the instrument panel. This issue first occurred approximately 8 months ago, at intervals of about once a month, given my limited vehicle usage (estimated at 200-300 miles per occurrence). In the past two weeks, there have been 3-4 instances of this occurring. I turn the truck off and back on and everything works normally. Within the last week something new that presented is that when the wheel is turned sharp to the left or right, the steering wheel would violently jump back the opposite direction. I am willing to make the vehicle available for inspection upon request. While the safety risks associated with this malfunction are numerous, the primary concern is the potential loss of steering ability at any speed, posing a significant risk of accidents resulting in severe injury or death. I have not sought professional servicing for the vehicle due to the intermittent nature of the problem, and as of now, the affected component has not undergone inspection. As previously noted above the power steering warning indicator consistently displays on my instrument panel during these occurrences until the truck is turned off and then back on. This occurs at any speed.
Starting in late winter of 2021, I began to experience several momentary instances of loss of power steering and steering fault messages in the cluster, the steering wheel was nearly impossible to move. In January of 2022, I brought the vehicle to Chrysler/Ram dealership for service of the intermittent power steering. At that time my 2016 Ram 1500 Crew Cab 4x2 had 17,000 miles of use. Dealership stated the fault was a dirty EPS connection. After service, the vehicle operated normally until nearly one year later(January 2023) when the power steering completely failed(steering fault warning on cluster) while on the interstate sixty miles from home. It was dark and raining that evening and I was forced to wrestle the vehicle home as I had no means of calling for help. It was stressful and incredibly unsafe. The first appointment available on January of 2023, I returned my truck to a Chrysler/Ram dealership for service. The dealership service department indicated that only a complete replacement of the EPS module/rack and pinion steering assembly would correct the issue. I addressed the 2016 steering recall for Ram 1500s several times with the service department , but was told that the recall did not affect my truck nor was it related to my current problem with the truck. At this time my 2016 Ram 1500 had only 20820 miles.

I will be driving and all of a sudden my steering gets really hard. Then it’s good for a little bit and does it again
2016 Ram 1500 steering failure. When my truck had around 50,000 miles, the steering wheel became near impossible to turn. Vehicle was towed to Dodge Dealership and was still under warranty and was told it was the steering box that failed. Repair was made by dealership. Truck now has around 130,000, and today, luckily while pulling into work, steering wheel locked up again while driving it and the service power steering lights started flashing. This is the 2nd time the steering in my vehicle has failed.
While driving on a highway my power steering stopped working. There is a recall for 2015-2016 Ram 1500 for power steering failure. The recall states, vehicles manufactured in January of 2015 through September of 2015 may be effected. This truck was manufactured in September of 2015. Manufacture says this is not there problem. The fact this vehicle has no power steering greatly increases the risk of myself, my family and of every other motorist on the road, especially during snowing and icy months.
My truck has the electronic steering with just over 130k miles, for some reason the electronic steering will just stop working, but no warning lights come on to the dash. When I take it to have it check it works fine. Then it will quit working again. I've read where thier is a recall on them but the dodge dealership says my truck isn't one of them.
The contact owns a 2016 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving in a parking lot, the vehicle lost power steering functionality. There was no warning light illuminated. Intermittent loss of powersteering around turns almost causing vehicle to go off road or head on into oncoming traffic
The steering in the truck has gotten a lot more difficult all of a sudden. It is still drivable for now but some turns require additional force. This just happened and as such has not been taken to a garage or dealership. I have contacted FCA to see if the repairs may be covered under the recall for the EPS module if that is what this turns out to be. There were no warning lamps etc. It just got a lot harder to turn yesterday (06/02/2024)

POWER STEERING FAILURE THIS TRUCK I BELIEVE WAS MANUFACTURED 12/2015 AND I DO NOT BELIEVE IT WAS RECALLED ORIGINALLY FOR THIS PROBLEM BUT IT HAS FAILED
Several days ago, I started to notice on my 2016 Dodge Ram 1500 (Outdoorsman edition - 5.7L Hemi V8 Engine) that my power steering is working intermittently. At first I thought I was hitting potholes or bumps in the road when turning, but the problem is getting progressively worse. My wife was very scared last night 2/1/2024 when driving the truck because she stated she was having a hard time steering. Driving the truck this morning, I noticed again and more frequently, that the power steering on the truck is working intermittently. Of course, I did what we all do, I Google searched this issue, and saw the NHTSA was doing an investigation on these issues for the 2016 series of Ram trucks, so I thought I would report this issue with my truck to the agency. The truck routinely visits automotive shops and service stations, and nobody has stated there are any issues with the electric power steering system.
Power Steering suddenly partially went out while driving.
Power steering went out at highway speeds. Truck was almost impossible to steer. Not yet currently at shop as of 1/25/24 Message said to service power steering immediately.
The below issue is my 2016’s problem, only thing is my truck has a build date of 5/2016. I’ve replaced this two times already, “it’s very expensive” to which I now have a fractured one yet again. I NEED A PERMANENT FIX FOR THIS ISSUE PLEASE. It’s my daily driver, hwy driven. ********Below recall noted******** ***16V-301 / S32 Recall Summary The front axle half shafts may fracture and separate from the vehicle. Dealers will replace both front half shafts free of charge to resolve the concern. Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2016 RAM 1500 trucks manufactured February 19, 2016, to March 3, 2016.
I have had 3 incidents with lose of power steering in the last two months
Power steering has become very stiff when turning while in motion, almost impossible to turn steering wheel when parked. Vehicle is parked due to safety and long wait for repair from Dodge dealer. Pickup is sole vehicle for household, rental not covered by dealership or insurance until deemed undrivable by dealer (per both dealer and insurance company).
My electric power steering keeps going in and out of not working. Does not matter speed one minute it will be extremely stiff and next just fine. I noticed there is a recall for this type of vehicle and issue and my truck was manufactured in August of 2015 which is in the timeline of the recall.
My 2016 RAM 1500 has been experiencing intermittent electric power steering. system failures, causing vehicle control failure when I try to turn left or right. When I disconnect the car battery, the electric power steering system temporarily works again, but then shows the same symptoms again. I haven't had any accidents with the vehicle, but I've been avoiding taking long trips due to the insecurity of the malfunction of the electric power steering.
Electric power steering assist failure periodically. Steering hard to turn at times regardless of speed. Issues come and go without warning. No failure lamps or MIL light. Dodge dealer has NOT been informed as of yet. Failure started on October of 2023. During failure charging voltage drops as well.
The contact owns a 2016 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving 25–35 MPH, the vehicle lost power steering functionality. The contact was able to drive the vehicle to the residence. The contact stated that an unknown warning light was illuminated after the failure. The contact called the local dealer and was informed that a diagnostic test was needed; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that failure was related to NHTSA Action Number: RQ23003(Steering). The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

I believe my electronic power steering is malfunctioning. There are no indicator lights on the dash but the power steering is difficult to steer. It began intermittently but now is difficult to turn the wheel at all times. My 2016 ram now has approximately 102,000 miles on it. At this point I am unable to use the vehicle because of the loss of power steering.
I’ve been experiencing a loss of power steering in colder temperatures. Nearly impossible to drive.
Power steering issue. Truck suddenly very hard to steer, especially at low speeds
The contact owns a 2016 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle experienced a loss of power steering assist. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic; however, no error codes were retrieved. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Action Number: RQ23003 (Steering). The failure mileage was approximately 73,000.

Loss of power steering making it hard to steer at low speeds. Power steering on and off intermittently making steering to feel jerky.
Power steering failed without warning which rendered the vehicle immobile.
The electric power steering system went out while driving. The truck had been checked for codes that day which indicated a possible need to replace the egr valve but nothing about power steering. I was in a parking lot and was able to pull into a space but was unable to get home.
Im loosing complete steering capabilty on my truck, it’s scary to drive it. I want to know if my truck its one of the one with the posible steering circuit board contamination. almost got into a wreck.
My electronic power steering stopped working without warning. It is only happening when it’s cooler outside. When the weather is warm it hasn’t been an issue. Now that it’s fall it’s happened again. The first time it happened I shut off the truck and restarted it and it was fine for about a month. But now today the problem hasn’t resolved by restarting it. The dash now indicates “service power steering”. The vehicle is not driveable without power steering.
Vehicle will lose all power steering without warning, and in a pattern that I cannot predict. First time it happened I was towing a trailer through the mountains and was in the middle of a curve, nearly causing me to wreck. It then went away after turning the truck off, however it is continuously happening at random moments now and it’s to the point I’ve had to park the truck because of the liability. I have not had it inspected by a shop yet, but will have it done in the near future.
Approximately 6 months ago vehicle started to experience intermittent loss of power steering. Problem would come and go without warning, In the past 60 days problem is no longer intermittent and steering is difficult at all times while driving or parked. Problem seems consistent with that NHTSA Campaign ID Number 16V167000 / Manufactures campaign Number S19.
The contact owns a 2016 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at slow speeds, the steering wheel became firm and difficult to maneuver. No warning lights was illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. An undisclosed dealer was notified of the failure and an appointment was scheduled. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact referenced NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V167000 (Steering) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacture was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 75,000.

As i was driving the gage cluster went blank and immediately the power steering went out on the vehicle. Very difficult to turn.
electrical power steering keeps turning on causing stiffness at at the wheel. it also causes the vehicle to pull to hard to the right even after alignment. vehicle has been taken to dealership and was quoted over $4000 for parts due to "faulty grounding at motherboard"
Power steering will fail intermittently, sometimes for days at a time. Steering becomes difficult at all speeds and failure occurs without warning. Attached is a deposit receipt for 25% of a ram dealer quoted $2,500 steering rack repair for this issue.
The power steering on my 2016 Ram failed and I was unable to move the steering wheel at all. The truck only has 45,000 miles on it! The safety of myself and others were put at risk because I had zero control over my steering wheel since I couldn’t move it. I took it to the Ram dealership to have it looked at. I had to have the entire steering system replaced (steering rack, etc). The dealership had no idea why this happened. They have never seen this issue before and they attributed the issue to a ‘faulty system’. The fix cost me $4500! I contacted MOPAR to see if they’d make this right and they blew me off since my specific Ram does not have a recall currently even though other Rams have had recalls for this exact issue. There weren’t any warning lights until the steering wheel quite moving.
Over the past months, we've been hearing what could best be described as a grinding noise from the steering, heard on any light nudge of the steering wheel, at speeds of about 35MPH and up, intensifying at higher speeds. While the sound is rather faint, it is our impression that over time it's been intensifying. We inspected the wheel hubs, which seem to be fine. We therefore believe it's quite likely the noise is coming from the steering rack (our model is equipped with an electric power assist steering). Searching online in an effort to learn if anyone else has been having similar issues, we found out that there's an ongoing investigation of steering issues related to RAM 1500 that includes 2016 models. We therefore decided to report our issue here.
The contact owns a 2016 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at at 25 MPH, the steering wheel tightened without warning. The contact used excessive force to untighten the steering wheel; the power steering assist returned to normal operation. The contact replaced the ball joints, inner tie rods, and several other parts in the vehicle after the failure. A year after the initial failure, the contact stated that while driving at 50 MPH, the same failure occurred again without warning. Due to the failure, the contact hit a a curb and damaged the front end of the vehicle. The air bag did not deploy; the contact was not injured. A police report was not filed. The vehicle was towed to his home where it remained in his possession. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V167000 (Steering); however, the manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed him that there were no recalls on the vehicle. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 76,000.

Complete loss of power steering. Occasional steering lock and takes a forceful pressure on the steering wheel to allow movement. Service power steering light is flashing on the dash with DTC's indicating module is bad. Loud grinding can be heard when turning left.
The power steering intermittently goes out. It may work for a few seconds then stop working. Even turning the steering wheel you can feel it come and go. Dodge dealer informed me there are no recalls and I would be charged ??
The power steering in my 2016 ram pick up truck has started to go intermittently on and off. Sometimes it feels like it’s catching on some thing when it goes out and then it comes right back on. Other times it is completely inoperable. This occurs for a couple days at a time and then the power steering will work for a period of 1 to 2 weeks before acting up again. I have also noticed a squeaking sound when turning the wheel to the right every now and then. I did take the truck in to the dealership however, on the day that I did, the power steering was working correctly, therefore, they were unable to diagnose anything. They stated that the power steering was working as it should. because of how random the power steering goes out, it is near impossible for me to get it to the dealership in time for them to properly diagnose. I did notice that your organization has opened an investigation into an issue at sounds very similar to the one that I’m having. because of how random the power steering goes out, it is near impossible for me to get it to the dealership in time for them to properly diagnose. I did notice that your organization has opened an investigation on August 5, into a issue at sounds very similar to the one that I’m having . Please let me know if you need any more information. Thank you.
Power steering system failed with 108500 miles. Unable to turn wheel back to center without fighting it. Almost caused me to crash twice.
Power steering failed intermittently several times while driving . I've been told the electronic steering rack failed and needs replaced but the garage is still trying to find the proper rack so repairs haven't been made yet .

The Traction control flashed immediately before the wreck so my assumption is there was a traction lock malfunction. The road was wet due to rain. My husband was driving 55 mph when the truck's steering locked and we ended up in the right side ditch where we hit an electric power pole. My husband had several fractured ribs. My right lower arm was broken, required surgery and a week long stay in the hospital. They put a rod with screws into my arm. The truck was totally destroyed according to our insurance company.
I lost my power steering 8/22. I drove a while without it. The steering did not freeze up. I had to wait several months for the part to come in. A non-dealer mechanic repaired the steering. I am reporting this after reading about others who had the same problem.
The electronic steering in this truck seemed to have malfunctioned in December 2022. The truck had approximately 60,000 miles on the odometer. It seems that the power steering is failing to assist with steering efforts, making it more difficult to safely steer the truck. The steering wheel does not return to center on its own, takes more effort to move the wheel, and at some degrees of the steering wheel, seems to not work at all. Sometimes the steering wheel seems to "skip" as well, depending on the position. It happened randomly but the only difference was after a big snow storm. The truck did not travel through deep snow but the roads were wet from clean up/salt. The only things that seem to maybe help are wiggling the plug on the ESC or getting a car wash - but then it still does not go back to normal, just seems like its getting a tad bit more power. But then it goes back to failing to assist. It is described just like the recall that is out there for these trucks, but my VIN does not fall under the recall, even though the symptoms are the exact same. The dealership and Ram Cares have been no help in this either. I have tried a few things including replacing the battery, fuses, steering components - everything rather than replacing the whole rack and ESC. Nothing seems to help.
The contact owns a 2016 Ram 1500. The contact stated while reversing, the steering wheel became firm with the "Steering Failure" message displayed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who informed the contact that the electric power steering module needed to be replaced. A recall was made for manufacture dates ending in 9-2015. My truck is 10-15 and exhibits the same loss of power steering at low speed as this recall. Chrysler advises me to take it to the dealer and pay out of my pocket for their, obvious, defective build.I have seen numeroys complaints regarding vehicles outside the stated MD of this recall
The vehicle is starting to lose power steering function. The vehicle is at 102,000 miles. This is happening any time I turn my wheel. This is a very hazardous safety issue. This issue has not been seen by any other professionals. It just started happening a couple weeks ago. I called the dealership and they said my Vin was not part of the Dodge Ram 1500 year 2015 -2016 recall. I called the manufacturer and they told me it could be a recall soon. But until then I'm to get it looked at and get it fixed. If the recall is a thing soon they will reimburse me my money.
Steering stopped working while driving. Previous year had a recall for this issue and my truck was not included. This is an ongoing problem and the part needed to fix it is unavailable.

Truck speed by itself with cruise control set to 57 mph. Driving down road and was slowing down to turn and wheel wouldn’t turn without a lot of force.
My truck was fine up until last week and the service steering assembly light came on , and was only on briefly , and then here on Monday, I'm driving on the highway and all of a sudden all my lights start flickering , and No Bus was triggered , I was able to get it back to town and brought it to my local dodge dealer , that has confirmed that the electric steering rack has malfunctioned due to a short on the internal module. So we're wondering if it's potentially a recall for this sort of thing doesn't happen from what they know and I'm told. And as a side note I put my location in Alaska HOWEVER! I'm actually located in alberta Canada and this was the only way ronget my form submitted and everything canadian brings me to nhtsa. Thank you.
The contact owns a 2016 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the steering wheel became firm without warning. The contact used excessive force to steer the vehicle. Overtime, the failure became more frequent with an abnormal, clicking noise coming from the steering column. The dealer nor the manufacturer were notified of the failure. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V167000 (Steering) which he linked to the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 116,000.

At about 75,000 miles, the BRAKE, ABS and Traction Control lights on my dash came on intermittently. Shortly thereafter, they said on indefinitely. I have had diagnostics run and the shop confirmed that the Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) and/or ABS Control Module has failed. I was told by the Dodge dealership that this is a known issue with Ram trucks of this generation and they have replaced countless HCUs/ABS Control Modules. These failures cause the ABS system to no longer function. It also disables cruise control. I understand NHTSA has already opened an investigation into a similar issue with heavy duty 2017-2018 Ram trucks, but this problem is common among 2016 models AND 1500 (not just the 2500 or 3500). I have encountered innumerable people online with this exact same problem. The dealership wants $2,000.00 for the repair.
I was driving vehicle and my power steering stopped working. My steering wheel is stiff and extremely hard to move left and right. I’m in shock this happen as the vehicle was moving.
Electric power steering stopped working while parked at a stop light. No previous indication that it was going to go out. No dash indicators. Had to drive home with no power steering with my family in the vehicle. No accident caused. Took the vehicle to a dealer where they informed we needed a new pack and pinion. Ordered one through the dealership and waited 4 months for one before having to move out of state. Got to new state and contacted a dealer who also said they are still on back order and do not know when they will be available. This is a primary vehicle of ours and to not get be able to get ahold of a part because everyone else seems to be having the same problem is very frustrating and inconvenient and a cause of concern. We cannot drive our vehicle without it being unsafe. We have now been out of a vehicle for over a year. 10 months of that year, not being able to get ahold of a new part because they are out of stock. If the part isn’t even available for easy repair and people have to wait months in order to receive one because they are in such high demand, that’s a obvious fault of the manufacturer on the part and needs to be covered as a recall. I cannot sell my vehicle for a reasonable price because of the issue, I cannot trade in my vehicle for a reasonable price because of the issue and I cannot fix the issue because the part is not available. All at which is not my fault. Our vehicle had approximately 90k miles on it when it went out.
My EPS is cutting out intermittently Driving some time power steering is there and some times not looked it up on line and other vehicle from same year and manufacturer have the same problem and they have been recalled but for some reason not others
Shortly after starting my 2016 Ram 1500 4x4 truck on January 27 2023 I was beginning to leaving my driveway and accelerate down the road when I noticed a check steering warning light displayed on my dash. Then I noticed my steering was quickly beginning to fail just a few meters from my driveway. I noticed I had very limited steering so I decided to return the vehicle back to my driveway. There was a high pitch winding and grinding sound every time I tried to correct the steering wheel to the left or right. I barely managed to return home into my driveway where I parked it for the tow truck. After doing some research I discovered there was a safety recall May 12, 2016 on the Electric Power Steering (EPS) unit. S19 / NHTSA 16V-167 Electric Power Steering which applies to certain 2015 and 2016 model year 1500 series RAM trucks. I have scheduled an appointment to tow my truck to Bayview Chrylser dealership in Sarnia Ontario to replace the Rack and Pinion / Electric Power Steering (EPS) unit . I feel this is an extremely serious safety concern on all 2015/2016 Trucks and these vehicles should be recalled to have this part inspected and replaced by Chrysler free of charge ASAP before lives are lost! I was on the highway the day before and I consider myself very lucky this incident didn't happen at that moment where I would have had no time to react on the faster moving highway. This loss of steering control could have easily resulted in a crash or a fatality. PLEASE address the steering fault before it's too late. I look forward to hearing from a representative from Chrysler to discuss a future recall on these affected trucks. A Very concerned Dodge Truck owner
Driving 40 mph and suddenly motor died warnings for throttle and other flashing but coming around a curve was difficult to steer and stopped on curve and had to be pushed out of the way tried to start to no avail and had it towed to a local dealership where they determined it was a common problem with the tone wheel/ reluctor plate that apparently delaminates and loses part of a magnet on the outside which apparently they is a warranty expressly for this problem for 2014-2018 ram 1500 3.0 eco diesels which I’m being told by the dealership that chrysler says my vehicle is not covered ? Why I don’t understand.

2016 Ram 1500 4x4 5.7 Hemi....ABS, Traction Control, BRAKE lights are all on. Had the DTS codes scanned and told the ABS Module is Bad (Internal Failure) as well as the HCU unit. Happened with approx. 24,000 miles but out of 36 month warranty. Well documented issue with these vehicles yet FCA will not recall nor help with repair. To make matters worse, the ABS module (part #68295368AC) is not currently available at all and there is no ETA either. Says part is discontinued on many Mopar parts websites. I, like who knows how many hundreds of others, are driving around with no ABS, Traction Control and also cruise control is automatically disabled. Also, the other day my Speedometer stopped working and I also lost power steering. This is a MAJOR safety issue and should have at least been covered by the powertrain warranty so at least I would not be liable for the approx $1800+ repair cost. The fact that the ABS Module is not even available is very worrisome at the very least. I have no choice but to drive my truck in this manner hoping I don't get into an accident due to failing brakes!!! I hope someone in your agency takes the time to review and research this issue and make FCA/Chrysler liable for repair of this major safety issue.
The truck lost steering power and I was able to stop without wrecking but I have no control of the steering at all
Steering is getting hard, worse at low speeds, electric power steering

Loss of power steering almost impossible to turn the vehicle. I found this out at highway speed of 70 mph with no warning lights or indicators on the dash h.u.d. Even with certified pre-owned warranty and under 80,000 miles not covered under warranty and spoke with dealership and ram customer care and have been told even though they are aware of the common issue I’m stuck with the bill and they basically don’t stand behind their product.
The contact called on behalf of his son who owns a 2016 Ram 1500. The contact stated while his son was was driving approximately 55 MPH and making a turn, the steering wheel became difficult to turn. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer who diagnosed the vehicle with electric power steering assist failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V167000 (Steering). The approximate failure mileage was 89,000.
Mileage: 89,000
Power steering stopped working during operation causing for a Safety issue. Diagnosis is the Electronic Power Steering Control Module, requiring replacement of rack and pinion assembly. Recall 16V167000 from RAM acknowledges this exact issue for 2015-2016 RAM 1500's manufactured between Jan. 22, 2015 and Sep. 13, 2015. HOWEVER, even though my vehicle (VIN: [XXX]) meets these exact identifiers with a Mfg. Date of 9/10/2015 falling into the specified group, RAM is not including my VIN in the recall order. This leaves me paying out of pocket for a known manufacturer defect, rather than being covered by the recall. If this is RAM's position and unwilling to help, while this is my 7th RAM it will also be my last. INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
Steering wheel or suspension.. I had truck aligned plus 4 new tires and still I can’t drive it straight. The back tires are trying to come around and it pushes me sideways toward on coming traffic so I can’t drive at all. Please help. It sounds like a current recall but my vin isn’t included. He very dangerous to drive it at all
I can’t steer the vehicle even after new tires, alignment , lots of play in steering wheel and it goes where it wants. I can not drive it anywhere
The electric power steering assist is not working on my 2016 ram 1500 and there is a recall on certain 2015-2016 rams on this issue where the circuit board was contaminated which caused the failure (recall S19) I contacted Ram on this and they told me that my truck is not one of them as it was made in 2015 before they put in the faulty circuit boards. My truck is doing exactly what the recall says happened to the other trucks and how can Ram be absolutely sure my truck did not get one of the bad circuit boards. It was made in 2015 and is a 2016 edition which is what the recall covered. It may be Vin specific but as my truck has the same exact symptoms, I feel this recall should be expanded. The vehicle has not been checked yet but I am told that there are no open recalls on my truck so I feel they will charge me whether it should be recalled or not. there are no warning lamps on . In closing I believe that if my truck has the same symptoms as the recall then the board should be replaced no charge by Ram as it was in the "Vin specific models"
THE POWER STEERING STARTED COMING AND GOING IN LATE OCTOBER 2021. IN LATE JANUARY FIRST OF FEBUARY IT COMPLETELY WENT OUT/STOPPED WORKING. TOOK IT IN TO LOCAL DODGE DEALER, AND THEY DIAGNOSED THAT YES THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING HAD FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I WAS ADVISED OF THE REPLACEMENT COST AND OK'D THE REPAIR AND PART WAS ORDERED. TODATE THE PART HAS NOT ARRIVED (1000 ACROSS NATION ORDERED BUT 18 SHIPPED IN LAST FOUR MONTHS LAST ADVISED) CALLED AND SPOKE TO DODGE AND FILED COMPLAINT 041322, BECAUSE, I'VE RECEIVED NO ANSWERS NO RESPONSE FROM DODGE/CHRYSLER SINCE. THIS PROBLEM IS NOT NEW TO THE MODEL YEAR OF THIS TRUCK. DODGE/CHRYSLER REFUSES TO ADDRESS AVAILABILTY OF PART OR ISSUE RECALL ON THE TOTAL NUMBER OF VEHICLES INVOLVED. THERE IS A RECALL THAT IVE FOUND ONLINE BUT DOES NOT ADDRESS MY VEHICLE THAT HAS LESS THAN 37000 MILES. THE DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN HELPFUL. I OWN AND HAVE OWNED SEVERAL DODGE/ CHRYSLER PRODUCTS AND JUST VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THE MANUFACTURER.
The contact owns a 2016 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving approximately 45 MPH, he attempted to change from the left lane to the right however, the steering wheel did not respond. The contact applied more force to the right and the steering turned in the opposite direction. The contact stated that a red steering wheel warning light was illuminated. The contact stopped in the middle of the roadway due to the loss of steering functionality. The contact had the vehicle towed to his residence. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a dealer or independent mechanic. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 124,000.

I noticed about 2 weeks ago that my steering was becoming difficult. I brushed it off at first, but certain cold mornings, it is becoming harder to steer. My steering wheel also requires force to turn it straight after engaging in a turn, it does not assist. I took it to a National Tire and Battery and they confirmed that my Ram 1500 needs a new rack and pinion. They also informed me that no where around has any in stock, or even know if/when they’ll get one. So I am stuck driving a truck where I could lose my steering at any moment. I believe my truck should be a part of 16V-167 recall.
Truck vibrates between speeds of 60 and 70 mph. Put new tires on and it made no difference.
While Driving and power steering quit.
My power steering failed. It stopped working while I was driving on a straight road at approximately 45MPH. The wheel was very hard to turn. The power steering did not start working again until I was able to stop the vehicle, shut it off and re-start it. I had the dealer look at it and they can not replicate it, and can not find any coded to tell what has happened. The dealer and FCA have said there is nothing they can do at this time. This is not a problem that I want to wait to happen again as it is extremely dangerous.
On Tuesday January 4th 2022 I was driving my vehicle on interstate 10 at approximately 75 mph, as I was driving my vehicle lost all power and shut off leaving me with no brakes or power steering, I coasted to the off ramp. At which time I was coming up on an intersection where I attempted to apply my brakes to prevent me from rear ending several vehicles. My brakes did not engage properly my steering very stiff and hard to turn, I barley made it around the vehicles in front of me. I then coasted as far as the vehicle would go not being able to stop, leaving me in an active intersection right on the off ramp. I have contacted the manufacturer in regards to recall W58 which is the crankshaft position sensor and tone wheel which 85% of these trucks where recalled for. I was dismissed and told they would not speak with me again. After this I believe it is to my best interest to file a safety report with you guys!
Hello, The safety problem is while driving the truck the fuel gauge needle drops to empty intermittently and a warning light flashes. Now not knowing how much fuel is in the tank is dangerous because running out of fuel especially on the highway will stall the engine followed by loss of brakes and steering. The dealer said its an electrical fuel sender resistor card inside the fuel tank that is shorting out, that alone scares me. Searching online I found out it's a common problem among 2016 Ram trucks. I will not let my family drive this truck until the electrical problem is fixed. Thanks for reading!
The Power Steering on my 2016 Ram 1500 is starting to act up. The Power Steering is tight when driving my vehicle especially when changing lanes, turning, and parking. I see that there was a recall for the 2015-2016 Ram trucks for Contamination on the electric power steering control circuit board. When I look for recalls on my vehicle there are none listed but my truck is showing all the same signs as this recall states. I have had my vehicle checked out by a licensed mechanic and he also stated that my truck is having the same issues that were listed in the recall. What can I do to have my vehicle repaired under the recall?
Intermittent half steering power loss, ( I figured it was a weather related) followed by complete loss of power steering over time.
ELECTRIC POWER STEERING UNIT LOSS/FAILURE WHILE VEHICHLE IN MOTION. NO WARNING PRIOR TO FAILURE.
The electronic power steering rack went out without any warning
While driving the power steering stops working and it becomes difficult to steer. This only lasts for a few seconds then it begins to work again. I started noticing this a couple of weeks ago but it is getting worse the more I drive it. I am concerned that it is becoming a safety concern.
The contact owns a 2016 Ram 1500. The contact stated while operating the vehicle, the power steering malfunctioned, and the steering wheel was very difficult to turn in either direction. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer was notified of the failure, but the manufacturer was not yet contacted. The contact was informed that the vehicle was not included in the NHTSA campaign number 16V167000 (Steering). The contact indicated that the vehicle had experienced the same failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was 28,000.

I lost power steering while driving. The dealership said I need a new steering rack. Previous recall for this problem , same year as my truck, is said not to fall under the recall.
Power steering, Was driving down the road, when the steering wheel was jersey out of my hand. After pulling over, the power steering indication on dash appeared. I turn of vehical and restarted, steering worked fine. Same incident happened multiple time a few days later as driving down the road. The steering would not be responsive and then work. Now the power steering is out and has not return functional. The vehical has not been inspected as I am afraid to drive to shop and it has almost caused multiple accidents.
While driving my 2016 Ram out of the clear blue I experienced power steering loss when rounding a curve at approximately 40 mph. I thought for sure I was going to collide with the vehicle in the opposite lane but with a hard tug to the right I managed to escape the unthinkable. Not really knowing what just happened and no warning lights illuminated I very cautiously continued my drive to work kinda moving the steering gently left to right to see if it would do it again. From time to time I could feel what seemed to be resistance against the direction I was turning the steering wheel. When I arrived to work I Immediately opened the hood expecting to see a problem with the power steering pump but didn’t see one. I then took it to my mechanic and he informed me that it has electronic steering and suggested I take it to the dealership. I then googled this issue and found it’s a much bigger problem in that Chrysler had a recall for the same problem in 2015-2016...the same period in which my truck was built but not included. Chrysler needs to stand behind what they build and fix this problem before someone gets killed. Myself and anyone else who owns a 2015-2016 Ram truck and has experienced this problem should have Chrysler remedy this under recall 16v167000.
While driving, electric power steering was lost and 'Service Power Steering' warning showed on dash. Steering immediately became difficult which made keeping the truck in the correct lane difficult. When I got home, I disconnected the two electrical connectors to the electric power steering control module, reconnected the two connectors and power steering was restored.
When driving this Ram 1500 with electrically assisted steering it sometimes becomes almost impossible to steer when making a turn. problem is intermittent. i feel this is a safety issue in that i could possibly turn into oncoming traffic which can cause a catastrophic accident putting myself and other occupants at risk.
I INTERMITTENTLY LOOSE ALL POWER STEERING AND STRUGGLE TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. THERE IS A RECALL ON THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR MY MODEL AND YEAR TRUCK BUT ONLY FOR VERY SPECIFIED MANUFACTURED DATES, APPARENTLY MY TRUCKS WAS MADE EITHER BEFORE OR AFTER THESE DATES. ALTHOUGH FROM WHAT I'VE READ, MY TRUCK HAS SAME SYMPTOMS AS TRUCKS WHICH WERE MANUFACTURED IN THOSE SPECIFIC DATES. THE LOSE OF POWER STEERING HAPPENS AT LOW SPEEDS, HIGH WAY SPEEDS, COUNTRY ROADS AND CITY ROADS. WITH THE COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER STEERING AT RANDOM TIMES, I HAVE BEEN IN DANGEROUS SITUATIONS ON THE ROAD WHILE TRUCK THE TRUCK.

I CURRENTLY HAVE MY 2016 RAM LARAMIE IN THE SHOP IN NEED OF A REPAIR TO THE POWER STEERING. WHEN TURNING AND ACCELERATING THE POWER STEERING LOCKS UP AND THE VEHICLE LURCHES. THE DEALERSHIP INITIALLY DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS CONCURRENT WITH RECALL 16V167000 (NHTSA RECALL 16V-167), BUT THEN LATER DETERMINED THAT THE VIN OF MY VEHICLE DID NOT MEET THE SPECIFICATIONS. THIS ISSUE OCCURRED OUT OF THE BLUE ON MY VEHICLE, AND MAKES IT UNDRIVEABLE. THE REPAIR QUOTE IS UPWARDS OF $2600. IT STANDS TO REASON THAT THE 16V-167 RECALL EXTENDS BEYOND THE INITIAL SCOPE OF WHAT WAS ORIGINALLY DOCUMENTED, AND THE MANUFACTURER AND DEALER ARE JUMPING ON THIS LOOPHOLE. I HAVE NO CHOICE TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE, BUT AM IN HOPES THAT AN ADJUSTMENT TO THE 16V-167 RECALL WILL BE MADE AT A FURTHER DATE WHICH MAY PROVIDE ME REIMBURSEMENT FROM THE MANUFACTURER. I HAVE BEEN HAVING ISSUES WITH MY POWER STEERING SINCE FEBRUARY 2020. WHEN I CALLED THE LOCAL DEALER TO REPORT THIS I WAS TOLD THAT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL. THE RECALL STATES THE VEHICLES ELECTRIC POWER STEERING CONTROL CIRCUIT BOARD IS CAUSING A SHORT WHICH IS RESULTING IN A LOSS OF THE POWER STEERING ASSIST DUE TO THE MANUFACTURERS DEFECT. MY VEHICLE FALLS UNDER THE SAME YEAR OF THE VEHICLES BEING RECALLED. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO AN AUTOMOTIVE SHOP TO GET IT DIAGNOSED SINCE MY POWER STEERING LIGHT IS ON AND THE POWER STEERING CONTINUES TO NOT WORK AND THEY TOLD ME IT IS THE POWERING STEERING RACK THAT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED PLUS THE CIRCUIT BOARD. THEY TOLD ME THIS IS THE EXACT RECALL THAT IS OUT THERE NOW AND MY VEHICLE SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN THAT NEEDS TO BE TAKEN CARE OF AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. I HAVE ALREADY CALLED DODGE CORPORATE AND FILED A COMPLAINT AND HAVE A CASE NUMBER ASSIGNED (#77899413). NOW THE DEALERS DON'T WANT TO WANT TO ACCEPT THE VEHICLE TO DIAGNOSE IT BECAUSE "THIS IS GOING TO BE DUMPED IN THEIR LAPS" THIS WAS EXACTLY WHAT A SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME WHEN I CALLED THE DEALER TODAY. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY MATTER THAT NEEDS TO BE TAKE CARE OF ASAP. I HAVE 4 CHILDREN I AM DRIVING AROUND IN THIS VEHICLE WHICH CLEARLY SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL. I AM HOPING TO HEAR BACK FROM SOMEONE ASAP AS I HAVE ALREADY BEEN DEALING WITH THIS SAFETY SINCE FEBRUARY WAITING FOR AN OFFICIAL RECALL NOTICE. IF THIS IS NOT TAKEN CARE OF IN A TIMELY MANNER I WILL BE FORCED TO INCLUDE MY ATTORNEY AND MAKE THIS A LEGAL ISSUE ON TOP OF A SAFETY ISSUE.

THIS 2016 3.0L ECO DIESEL IS A DEATH TRAP AFTER FCA REPROGRAMED THE SOFTWARE 2 MONTHS AGO. 2-4 SECOND HESITATION WHEN YOU PRESS ON THE GAS. THE TRUCK JUST SITS THERE AND DOES NOT MOVE. IN TWO MONTHS I HAVE HAD 3 CLOSE CALLS PULLING INTO TRAFFIC. EXTREMELY SCARY WHEN YOU HIT THE GAS AND NOTHING HAPPENS AND A CAR IS COMING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT YOU AT 55 MPH AND YOU'RE SECONDS FROM GETTING T-BONED. IT'S JUST A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE PEOPLE START DYING IN THIS DEATH TRAP. THE DIESEL HAD MANY PROBLEMS BEFORE THEY REPROGRAMED IT. SINCE NEW THE TRUCK HAS GONE INTO LIMP MODE 4 TIMES WHERE THE ENGINE LIGHTS COME ON AND THE MOTOR SHUTS DOWN TO ABOUT 10 MPG. LAST TIME I ALMOST GOT KILLED ON THE FREEWAY WHEN THIS HAPPENED. YOU'RE STUCK ON THE HIGHWAY GOING 5-10 MPH TRYING TO GET OFF THE HIGHWAY WHEN CARS ARE FLYING PAST YOU AT 70 MPH. THESE 3.0L DODGE ECO DIESELS ARE VERY, VERY, VERY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. AFTER THE REPROGRAMING FROM FCA THEY HAVE A VERY DANGEROUS TURBO LAG TIME. FCA HAS DONE NOTHING TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEM. THE REPROGRAMING OF THE SOFTWARE MADE THEM WORSE AND MORE DANGEROUS. BECAUSE OF THE WAY THEY DESIGNED THIS ECO DIESEL, IT IS PRONE TO CATCH FIRE. ON MY TRUCK I HAD A FIRE UNDER THE HOOD AND A HOLE MELTED THROUGH THE INTAKE MANIFOLD. LUCKILY, THE TRUCK DID NOT BURST INTO FLAMES BUT IT WAS IN THE DEALERSHIP FOR ALMOST 3 WEEKS BEING REPAIRED. THIS TRUCK IS VERY DANGEROUS AND THE TRUCK NEEDS TO BE RECALLED AND IF FCA CAN'T FIX THEM, THEY NEED TO BUY THEM BACK AND GET THESE DEATH TRAPS OFF THE ROAD. SORRY, I CAN'T DESCRIBE JUST A SINGLE SPECIFIC INSTANCE, IT'S DANGEROUS EVERY TIME YOU GET BEHIND THE WHEEL. I WOULD LIKE TO MEET WITH THE PRESIDENT OF FCA AND HAVE HIM TAKE MY TRUCK FOR A DRIVE WITH HIS FAMILY IN IT AND THEN GIVE HIS OPINION AS TO THE QUALITY OF THIS ENGINE. I DO NOT ALLOW MY WIFE TO DRIVE THIS TRUCK AS IT'S A DEATH TRAP.

MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN BROUGHT TO A LOCAL MECHANIC SHOP AS WELL AS THE DEALER AND BOTH INFORMED ME THE SAME THING. MY EPS (ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING) NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. WHICH IS RECALL # 'S19'. VEHICLES OF THE SAME MAKE AND YEAR ARE BEING RECALLED FOR THE SAME ISSUE.

SAFETY RECALL H46 MY 2003 DODGE RAM WAS IDENTIFIED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC THAT THE STEERING LINKAGE IS CLOSE TO FAILURE AND RECOMMENDED I HAVE THE DEALER DO THE RECALL. I CALLED AUTO NATION IN DENVER AREA AND WAS TOLD THERE IS A NATIONWIDE SHORTAGE OF PARTS. THEY QUOTED NOVEMBER 2019 OR DECEMBER20 19 TO GET THE PARTS? SO I AM SUPPOSED TO DRIVE A KNOWN DEFECTIVE TRUCK FOR 2 MONTHS? IN THE DAY AND AGE OF OVERNIGHTING PARTS I DON'T THINK THIS IS AN ACCEPTABLE TIME FRAME?

I PURCHASED A 2016 RAM 1500 IN MAY 2019 WITH APPROXIMATELY 25K MILES ON IT. A FEW DAYS AFTER PURCHASING I NOTICED A VIBRATION COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE TRUCK THAT'S CAUSES THE WHOLE BED TO SHAKE AROUND 65+ MPH. TOOK THE TRUCK TO A LOCAL SHOP AND THE MECHANIC POINTED OUT TO ME THE DRIVESHAFT WAS WOBBLING A LITTLE WHEN HE HAD THE TRUCK ON THE LIFT. TOOK THE TRUCK TO TWO DIFFERENT DODGE DEALERS ABOUT THE ISSUE, THE FIRST DEALER TOLD ME THEY COULDN'T REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. SO I WENT ON A TEST DRIVE WITH THEM AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE NOTICED THE VIBRATION I WAS COMPLAINING ABOUT. LONG STORY SHORT THEY TOLD ME MY TIRES(ONLY 25,000 MILES) WERE BAD AND I SHOULD REPLACE THEM, GET AN ALIGNMENT AND THE PROBLEM WOULD BE SOLVED. SO I DID JUST THAT AND THE VIBRATION OF THE WHOLE BED WAS STILL THERE, THEY REBALANCED THE TIRES AND THE VIBRATION WAS STILL PRESENT. AFTER GOING TO THIS DEALER FOR THE THIRD TIME THEY BASICALLY TOLD ME THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT TO BECAUSE THEY CHECKED EVERYTHING INCLUDING THE DRIVESHAFT AND NOTHING WAS WRONG AT ALL. A COUPLE WEEKS LATER I GO TO ANOTHER DODGE DEALER ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE, AND IT'S THE SAME RESPONSE "WE CAN'T REPLICATE THE PROBLEM". I TEST DRIVE WITH THE SHOP MANAGER AND ALL OF A SUDDEN HE NOTICES THE VIBRATION AND TELLS ME TO LEAVE THE TRUCK WITH HIM A COUPLE DAYS WHILE HE TROUBLESHOOTS IT. TWO DAYS LATER HE CALLS AND TELLS ME THAT ONE OF MY BACK RIMS IS BENT AND THAT'S WHAT'S CAUSING THE VIBRATION. I REPLACE THE RIM, GET ALL FOUR TIRES BALANCED AGAIN FOR THE THIRD TIME AND THE VIBRATION IS STILL THERE.

STEERING WHEEL POPPING NOISE WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL LEFT OR RIGHT WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE LEFT, THERE IS A INTERMITTENT POPPING NOISE BEHIND THE DASHBOARD AROUND THE STEERING COLUMN . AT TIMES I CAN FEEL VIBRATION OF THE POP BEING TRANSFERRED UP THE STEERING COLUMN TO THE STEERING WHEEL AND INTO MY HANDS. THIS POPPING NOISE STARTED A MONTH AND A HALF AGO AND IS PROGRESSIVELY GETTING WORSE, MORE FREQUENT, AND HAS MIGRATED WHEN I TURN THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE RIGHT AS WELL. THIS POPPING NOISE HAPPENS WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. ON CITY STREETS. IT HAS ALREADY BEEN TO THE SELLING DEALER THREE TIMES AND THEY WON'T LOOK AT IT AGAIN UNTIL A CHRYSLER TECH REP IS AVAILABLE. THEY DON'T KNOW WHEN THAT WILL BE. I HAVE ALSO CONTACTED CHRYSLER AND THEY ALSO DON'T KNOW WHEN A CHRYSLER TECH REP WILL BE AVAILABLE.
