2019 ram 1500 bighorn Power steering is going out intermittently while driving without notice or indication that it's going to happen, and it's throws power steering service light. The behavior matches exactly to the confirmed recall from Dodge "Safety Recall VB8 / NHTSA 19V812 Electric Power Steering Gear", I'm unclear why this vehicle VIN was not part of the recall as the recall description matches exactly in behavior, make, model and year of the truck. It's poses a safety risk to myself and drivers around me when losing control of steering unexpectedly.

My power steering went out when driving on the highway. I had it towed to the dealership and was told the power steering rack fried and it would be almost $5 to fix. Taxes LINE C CONCERN: Power steering warning pops up on dash at startup and I have no power steering. The light goes away after a minute or two and the steering comes back. The truck sat for five days and this issue started on my first startup after (6/19/24). The battery hasnt been changed or jumped POTENTIAL CAUSE: Confirmed customer concern. Found DTC U0131 -00 - Lost Communication With Power Steering Control Module "A" and the EPS module is completely unresponsive. Removed connectors to the power steering rack and found that the main power and ground has been hot and has melted the connector and is full of corrosion. The power steering rack has internally shorted causing these issues. The steering rack needs replaced and the connector is not serviceable and the harness must be replaced.

I have a faulty steering column in my truck that needs to be replaced. This is not normal wear and tear. The truck only has 60k miles on it and is still under warranty till 1/17/26. The steering column is supposed to last the Life of the truck. I brought the truck to dealership (nye) to diagnose the cause of the bad steering column. But instead they tell me they cant tell me the cause of the faulty steering column. Instead I recieve a quote to pay to replace it. I have called and even emailed the manager as he is suppose to be cerified to diagnose the cause or to give his professional opinion but I get no call back or even reply to my emails. This was in an accident before but the insurance says this is not caused by the accident. Id like to mention the airbags didn't deploy when the truck drove into the telephone pole. This is unsafe to drive and needs to be addressed.

Intermittent short discovered in the electric power steering (EPS) system. I took the vehicle to the dealership to perform diagnostic testing and the dealership confirmed the issue is a short-circuit within the EPS system. This issue has already been covered in a separate NHTSA recall (19E-077) however my VIN was not included. Amplifying information for this being a prevalent issue includes backorders from the OEM for replacement EPS systems, as well as multiple other sources online claiming to have similar issues.

Power steering. Steering warning light (Steering service required) comes on randomly for a second or two and then goes away. Making steering and controlling the vehicle very difficult. Several trips to repair shops that run a diagnostics computer scams come up with nothing. Mechanics have check for shorts but say nothing looks out of the normal. This make model and year has had 197 vehicles recalled for what I believe to be this issue. Has been happening for the past couple of weeks

Safety Complaint – Power Steering Failure on 2019 RAM 1500 Big Horn 4x4 Not Covered by Recall VB8 To Whom It May Concern, I am submitting this complaint regarding a recurring safety issue with my 2019 Dodge RAM 1500 Big Horn 4x4. The vehicle experiences intermittent power steering loss, particularly during colder temperatures. This issue matches the symptoms described in Safety Recall VB8 / NHTSA 19V-812, which affects certain 2019 RAM 1500 vehicles due to contamination in the EPS gear. However, my VIN is not currently included in the recall, despite the alignment in model, year, and issue. I have already incurred diagnostic costs and have a follow-up appointment scheduled at a RAM dealership to further investigate the issue. I am requesting that NHTSA: - Review my case and consider expanding the scope of Recall VB8 to include additional affected VINs - Investigate whether similar complaints have been filed for vehicles outside the current recall range - Ensure Chrysler/RAM is addressing this issue consistently and fairly across all impacted vehicles Thank you for your attention to this matter. I am happy to provide additional documentation upon request. Sporadically losing power steering, EPS on this 2019 RAM 1500 Classic. I noticed it sporadically at lower speeds and its now become more and more. EPS control box item number is TIC1999B5492 . I know there as a recall on 2019 RAM 1500 for power steering, EPS issues but my Vin number [XXX] seems to be having the same power steering issues now as described in the recall. So Im wondering if the recall needs to be extended to a wider range of VIN numbers. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The steering wheel get hard to without warning and is very difficult to steer. EPS GEAR, Rack and Pinion defect. While driving at highway speeds the steering wheels get hard and impossible to steer.

I was driving my truck down the road and the power steering went out. I pulled over in a parking lot and turned the truck off. I waited about 5 minutes and restarted the truck; the power steering came back. I proceeded to head home, and the power steering locked up and the truck would not turn at all. I was in a residential area and was able to stop as far right on the road as I could. I again turned the truck off and waited about 5 minutes and restarted the truck. The power steering worked for me to get the truck home. I took the truck to a Dodge dealership and was quoted $4100 for parts and labor. I feel that the research that I have done warrants the dealership to repair the truck. There are safety recalls for my make, year, and model, just not my Vin.

- I like to report that my Ram 1500 Classic has been having issues with steering since March 2025. I had around at that time 78k miles on the truck give or take. I took the truck to the dealership where I purchased it (Brown Daub Easton PA). They claimed that everything I told them about the Truck was perfectly fine and they had multiple people test drive the truck with no issues. I explained that the steering would be very hard to execute a turn left or right and at times it would even feel like it "skipped" in the steering. I can tell I have slightly new wheels at the time of this issue. The only thing they noted was my rear passenger tire tread was a little more worn compared to the other three. I took the Truck home very disappointed and the problem actually seem like it went away for a few days. Then the problem began to show again and the turning aspect is becoming more difficult. Recently while driving on the interstate my steering was affected just changing lanes at 65 mph where the need to use both hands was troublesome. The truck itself had jolt where I never encountered. - - I believe that driving this truck is very dangerous and taken it to the dealership where I have a warranty appears to be impossible to identify the root issue. - I have only taken it to the dealership once and its scheduled to go back to the home dealership on the 12th of this month for another check. -There are no warning lamps/messages. Problem recently started in March 2025 at or above 78k miles. - I believe that the issue could be related to the power steering motor or the Electronic power steering noted on this site. The examples or causes fall very close to the same feeling I get while driving this vehicle. This is my first experience where I have noticed a loss of power steering in driving 28 years of driving various pick up trucks be my own, military grade trucks, and work trucks. Thank you.

Jun 4, 2025 Crash

I just got off the highway where I was driving 65mph. I was drive down the road with a passenger making a right hand turn. In the middle of the turn the power steering stopped working and I proceeded to go straight. I was able to stop before crashing into a wall. I couldn’t only imagine the pannic of losing power steering at 65mph on a high way. The dealer said I need a $3,000 rack and Pinion. All over the internet it shows the 2019 ram was built with a faulty power steering and a lot were recalled. I don’t see how the recall didn’t make it to my vehicle but it almost caused a huge accident.

May 15, 2025

Power Steering Failed at startup of vehicle and starts and stops working randomly while driving. It does tell you to service the power steering system when it is not working. I have not had it inspected by a dealer yet.

May 15, 2025

as of 3/25/2025, Started having sudden intermittent power steering loss along with, 'service power steering' code. I haven't been able to use the truck due to being unsafe. I am on call all month and will have to tow it to dealership afterwards. I see that there was a recall way back in 2019. It's nice that you want to know if a dealership can confirm the problem. So far, when I tack this trjck or my last truck in they can't seem to figure it out until the warranty expires.

I am filing a formal complaint regarding a critical safety defect in my 2019 Ram eTorque, which posed a severe risk to my pregnant wife while she was driving. The vehicle’s battery unexpectedly failed, resulting in a complete loss of power steering and all safety functions, creating a hazardous situation in the middle of the roadway that could have led to a serious accident. This defect is not isolated. My truck has been at the repair shop for over two months, as the necessary replacement part is on backorder due to over 3,000 reported vehicles affected by the same issue. The widespread nature of this defect and the unavailability of parts amplify the risk of injury or fatality to drivers and passengers. I urge the Safety Advisory Board to investigate this defect urgently, focusing on the significant safety implications and the high number of affected vehicles. Immediate action is needed to prevent potential harm.

While driving the freeway at 70 mph, the truck flashed a message to service shifter. Windshield wipers starting going on their own, all messages popped up on dashboard, and the vehicle started gradually slowing down posing a safety issue. Speedometer was going from 0-50 mph back and forth and steering wheel was hard to maneuver. I was able to get off the freeway and into the frontage safely. However, turning the vehicle was a hassle and even more so when I tried to drive in to a parking lot to get to a safer area since the truck wouldn’t respond to the gas pedal nor would the steering wheel cooperate. If I wanted to turn it left it jerked on its own to the right. Vehicle shut off on its own and wouldn’t power back on after that. Tow truck had to be called and was told this was a cause of rfh by rear window(shortage caused by leak on third brake light) this happened after it being repaired. Truck was in shop for over two weeks. Today I’m being told it is the rack and pinion system causing this shortage and issue. Awaiting repair quote for that

On multiple occasions after 10-15 minutes of driving at various speeds, while turning either way, or while driving straight, a “Power Steering Unavailable” warning comes on the dash and steering stiffens and becomes almost immovable. Very similar to NHTSA Recall Number: 19V-016. On one occasion PS faulted while starting into a curve at 50 mph. Steering wheel hardened and nearly caused vehicle to straighten out the curve with me, my wife, and my [XXX] daughter inside. After researching it seems this is wide spread issue that RAM has not addressed passed previous recall. Dealer was called to check for recall but is not covered under current recall. I will be bring it to dealership as soon as possible to officially confirm the issue. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Had my truck in for service and they found a cracked right front CV axle and carrier joint. I was told that this is a safety issue and could lead to uncontrolled steering, but then was told by two different dealers that the part is on national backorder with no time frame for availability. I was also told that this is a common issue and other RAM1500 models have had warranty repair or recalls, but none seems to be available for mine.

I Have only had this truck for 2 months. I was driving and making a turn and the electrical power steering stopped working and the steering wheel locked. I almost crashed and drove into a ditch with my whole family in the truck. Including a [XXX]. I had to slam on the breaks and barely able to keep the truck from crashing. Dashboard said " Power Steering unavailable Service Required". I turned off the truck and restarted it to see if it would fix the issue. It did not. I drove the rest of the way home going slow with the hazard lights on. Steering wheel needed to be muscled for it to make the smallest turn. I had to drive over curbs because it would have been impossible to make some of the turns needed to get home. I called Ram and reposted the incident. They did not care because my vin is not listed for the recall and that the recall is "VIN specific". I do not understand this. VIN specific means each truck would be custom made and all different. Why is my family's life being risked and not being taken seriously. Once home, I have not been back in the truck. I turned it on the next day and the alert is gone and the wheel moves again. A family of 5 is now at risk. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The power steering on my 2019 Ram pickup keeps going off so that i am forced to muscle the steering wheel when making turns. I filed a claim on this previously but never heard back from you. It takes quite a bit of strength to manuever the truck without power steering and this is quite unsafe in my opinion; for example, I do not allow my wife or daughter to drive the truck with this dangerous situation. I also took my vehicle into the local dealer for repair of this issue. They told me I had a weak battery with "low codes" and charged me $400 for a new battery. They told me they could not find anything else to report. Very frustrating!!!! While driving my steering wheel will stick left or right while turning and the power steering is intermittently working. This is a major problem with 2019 ram 1500s. While turning there is also a horrible sound outside the vehicle and it sounds like there is sand being ground up in the steering wheel. This problem makes my vehicle unsafe to drive as i dont know if i will be able to steer or if my steering wheel is going to completely lock up.

The power steering says it's "unavailable" and "needs servicing" when cold starting the vehicle at tempuratures lower than 45 degrees fahrenheit. I purchased the vehicle used and owned it for one day when this error occured. My safety was put at risk because when the error went away and I drove down the road, the error returned and the steering wheel locked up when I was driving, could've caused a nasty accident if the timing was worse. The problem is reproduced when the vehicle is cold started at tempuratures of 45 degrees fahrenheit or lower. The EPS component is currently being inspected by the used car dealership. The warning message only appeared as the power steering malfunctioned, there was no prior warning to the power steering failing, making the vehicle extremely unsafe to drive as their is complete uncertaintly when the power steering will shut off.

Power steering failed while driving on highway. “Power steering unavailable” warning illuminated on dash, accompanied by immediate complete loss of power steering. Turning without it is extremely difficult in this vehicle, and if was not traveling on a straight road, likely would have caused a wreck. After a quick online search, it does not appear that this is uncommon in the 2019-2024 Rams. The dealer invoice, to replace the entire Electronic Power steering rack is attached. They have indicated that the problem is with the electronics in the rack/module.

Power steering intermittent failure. Doesn’t appear to be related to truck use: it happens when truck is first turned on, happens while driving. The gauge screen turns red, says “Power Steering Unavailable,” and power steering is lost. Power steering dash light turns on. Power steering is lost, sometimes for a second, sometimes for longer. This happens at idle, as well as driving various speeds (20 mph-60 mph). It happens while driving straight and in turns. Thankfully it has only gone out on slow-speed turns so far. It resets when truck is turned off, but will fail a few seconds after turning on. There is a recall for this exact problem. The recall manufacture window ends one month before the manufacture date of our truck. We have contacted a service representative at a dealership and they refused to fix the problem under the recall for that specific problem because our truck’s VIN is one month beyond the recall window. Is there even the slightest possibility that a faulty rack/wiring affected by this recall was installed on the vehicle. The recall date must be expanded. A sudden loss of power steering while driving may have serious consequences, including loss of life.

I purchased my 2019 Ram 1500 in Sept 2018. I have had continuous steering issues since the day of purchase and each time I've complained over the past years nothing has been done by the dealer to address my problem. When the truck is warmed up and you're driving over 50 mph there's a "catch" or spot that seems to have a rough spot when steering to the left. It's fine when turning right, only when turning left does it occur. It's progressively getting worse and as the truck now has over 36,000 miles, (43,00 at time or writing this) the dealers are not interested in looking into my issues. I have made at least 5 or 6 complaints over the years and each time have been told they'll look into and get back to me. I feel now it's reached the point where it's not all that safe to drive or that the system could completely fail. How do I get Ram to get serious and address this issue. I know there's been time lapses on my part but as an 87 year old, time gets by me.

My truck is turning hard and is an issue driving. There are recalls for the same year and online states it has recalls for rams manufactured before 10-2018 and my truck was manufactured on 7-2018. I’m being told there is no recall. Why if dodge has an issue with power steering with those models like mine is my issue not covered . This is a major safety issue and is obviously related. I also had an issue with a recall with my back window leaking right after I bought this and again the vin number had no recall but was obviously an issue for these models for the year and make. Dodge needs to do better the steering issue could put someone’s life at risk not just my own!

Oct 10, 2024

I got in my truck and once i turned it on a warning message popped up on the dash board saying power steering unavailable and gave me a red steering wheel sign. I put the truck in drive and the steering wheel did not move it was as if the truck was off. Its a huge safety risk because what if this happens while I am driving the vehicle and I lose power steering. Or if I have an emergency I cant drive my vehicle.

Oct 4, 2024

Heated steering wheel failed. Components and/or wiring melted. This was discovered about 5 months ago and it took that long to get replacement parts because they were on back order. This is a common issue in RAM trucks. If you google you can find the issue in many different articles and Forums, yet no recall on it. Fix is over $1400. It believe the fix is changing a clock spring if it isn't already melted. Mine was melted. This is a long standing RAM issue with back ordered parts. It should be looked at as a recall. It's not a safety issue per say, but seems like a manufacturing defect that is very costly to the customer if they don't have extended warranty.

Electronic power steering has failed with no previous warning signs. I was driving down the road on the highway when the power steering warning light came on all of a sudden and staring was extremely difficult. Power steering temporarily began working again, but within 10 minutes further down the road it went off again, making it very difficult to turn this truck during any turns.

On Friday August 2nd. 2024 approximately 11am I was driving my 2019 ram 1500 laramie. At about 28 mph my truck lost power steering. Message in my dashboard says Power steering unavailable. The steering was very hard, harder when the engine is not running. I pulled over and waited 10mns and restarted the truck and everything went well. And I drove off it happened again within 10mns or 5mi. Same thing pulled over waited 5mns and restarted the truck and the message is gone and truck drove like normal. It happened 3 times within 15mi of driving. Take it to the dealership and they confirm my steering wheel rack electric module has failed and quoted my $3500 for repair.

Was driving 40mph when my power steering failed, came up with a warning message: “Power Steering Unavailable Service Required,” then the engine shut off WHILE STILL DRIVING. I had two of my kids with me in the truck. Fortunately I was able to coast through a green light and muscle the powerless truck into a parking lot. Waited for about 15 min and the truck started back up with no check engine lights. The risk of crash or injury is huge - I’m extremely thankful this didn’t happen on a highway or while towing my travel trailer. My truck is useless until the dealer takes a look. My fear is that the dealer won’t be able to replicate the fault when I have the truck towed in. This is the second of two times this has happened in 2 days. The first was in the driveway with the exact same symptoms.

Loss of power steering.

Jun 5, 2024

Driving the vehicle and out of no where the power steer failed and the steering wheel locked up. Had 3 young children in the car with me and was blocking traffic due to being unable to drive the vehicle. The dealer inspected the vehicle and said it would need a new power steering rack and that he has never heard of this problem before when it’s all over the internet. The part is not available and it will be a minimum of 30 days with no estimated date. Vehicle has only 62,500 miles and has never been involved in any crash. This issue put my children at risk with no indication it would happen.

I do not drive aggressive nor has this vehicle been used to haul anything heavy. It has 81000 miles on it. Dodge dealership says the electric power steering module has a fault and needs to be replaced but says the module can't be replaced without replacing full rack and pinion steering as well as module for $3000.

In 2023 i replaced the electric power steering box after it seized up while I was driving. I have seen several recalls on this issue for every other year but 2019. The exact same issue exists in my truck. I spent $3500 to replace what should be a recall based on every other recall for this electric power steering that has occurred. The wheel locked in place and prevented me from even moving it from where it was. I was stranded in the middle of Tennessee on a road trip, while living in Arizona. This should absolutely be looked into. Truck was taken to Bristol, TN Dodge dealer. Friendship Chrysler Jeep Dodge.

While driving at low speed in city street, the Sterring wheel became very hard, and error display showed failure, stoped at red ligth and turned truck of on, problema got worse, was not able to drive, with many errors called dealership as I was 2 blocks away, came and helped take truck to dealership and after eview they stated that the issue was battery and all programing lost. 2 months after problem happen again this time only the steering became hard, problem was on off for a pair of days, taken to deaershipl and they advised that the issue was the Pinon and rack assembly(gear) but stated that warranty was out, I find this irresponsible as there was a recall for same year but limited to 200 cars, recall 19V 812, the problem I have is the same, this is a risk since you lose direction control.with out any warning, Dodge should be responsible for this and actually assure that they have fixed the issue with this component, I do not feel secure and repair has a very high cost about 4k dolars

The power steering spontaneously failed today, 4/2/2024, without any warning. I then received a message, "power steering unavailable service required" and the corresponding warning light illuminated. I have called the dealership and explained the issue, but they have not returned my call. I later started the vehicle and everything "appeared" normal. After attempting to drive again, after a short way the power steering failed again. It becomes extremely difficult to turn the steering wheel when this happens. The spontaneous nature and lack of warning of this critical driving component has a high likelihood of causing an accident. It is impossible to properly maneuver the truck in this state. It takes great strength to even maneuver the steering wheel a small amount without the power steering. This can be detrimental if it occurs under the wrong circumstances. My truck is extremely well maintained and serviced regularly. I only have 41k miles on the vehicle.

The 4wd has never worked in my 2019 Ram 1500. I bought the truck in November of the same year, I tried to engage the 4wd with the snow that year and it would not engage. Notification showed service 4wd, I took it to a ram dealer in South Carolina where I worked out of town they had it for two days and they informed me they didn't know what was wrong with it. I then took it to the dealer at home they kept it overnight and installed a new actuator. It engaged the first time and then back to service 4wd. This time was different it stayed in neutral, I turned the emergency brake on and turned the truck off. The dial tried to return to park but couldn't so with the truck off and Ebrake applied I had to have a tow service pick it up and take to the dealer. I then scheduled an appointment with the dealer I purchased it from and they said they updated the software and it was working. I tried to engage the 4wd in the parking lot and it still showed service light. They kept the truck for two days and said a gear in the transfer case was bad and I had to pay $1,000 to fix it. But the same year truck has a recall for the same issue I'm having. I declined the service due to an active recall. About a week later the power steering wasn't working right. When I was doing highway speed and would turn left it was like I had to fight it back into the lane, but only while turning left. I then took it to a mechanic and he said the truck was clearly over steering from the wear marks and that the R&P looked good no leaks but it may be the rack. So I looked at the active recalls and sure enough there is an active recall for the same year truck for electronic power steering and the transfer case but when entering my VIN it says my truck has zero recalls? I really hope something can be done I've lost my job due to cardiac arrest and used my 401k to pay the lein off just to have all these issues. Thank you

The backup camera started getting very foggy, overly sensitive to lights at night making it very blurry. I bought an aftermarket camera as a direct OEM replacement which works fine, however the onboard Uconnect 12" display will not allow me to turn back on the backup guidance lines over the video for the aftermarket camera on the display. I put the original camera back on, sometimes it has a horrible picture, sometimes just a fog and rarely good quality but either way the guidance lines do show clearly even when the camera's image is horrible. I put the aftermarket camera back on and it would not display or allow me to turn on the reverse backup guidance lines. Did they build in a feature that doesn't allow aftermarket part to be used in the software? From my understanding that would be illegal.

I have been experiancing power steering failure on my 2019 Ram 1500 (21,000 miles) vehicle at random times since the end of November 2022. On 12/13/22 it was dropped at a Dodge dealership in Queens NY where they had my vehicle for seven days and I was told it was because of my battery and they installed and charged me for a new one. That was some help but it did not resolve the problem completly and it continued to happen all though less frequently and with time it progressively got worse. On Febuary 14, 2023 I droppped the vehicle at a Dodge dealership in Nanuet NY and there diagnosis was the steering box needed replacement at a cost of $3600.00. The vehicle was brought back to the Queens dealership (this is the area where I work and is more convienant for me) and the steering box was replaced to NO AVAIL, the problem still exists. To say the least I am putting myself and other motorist on the road in EXTREME danger because when that electronic steering goes out it is near impossible to steer this vehicle and I have no other options to get to and from work. So $4000. plus and no one can resolve this issue and I reached out to Chrysler Corporate and they are basicly telling me to bring it back to the dealership for help, which I have done on three occasions and I have gotten NO WHERE.

Nov 22, 2023 Crash

My truck got hit in the front right, including the front right wheel that had a fairly high impact, alloy wheel is bent in one section (see attached photo). After that impact I was not able to steer or apply the breaks. The steering wheel would not move either direction no mater how much force I applied. On top of that, the brake pedal was rock solid and no matter how much force I applied, I could not get the truck to slow down. So I was a passenger and had no control over the truck. We ended up hitting a car parked on the right side of the road (front right wheel was deformed and kept pulling us to the right instead of going straight). After the truck was towed, the people in the tow yard started the truck up and were able to drive it and use the steering and the brakes. So the problem I experienced after the initial hit was not permanent. Is it too much to expect the steering and the brakes to work after a hit to the front right wheel?

Electrical system failed. A new battery was installed 1 month ago and on 10/28/23, I went to start the truck and it hesitated but started up then I lost power and it would not start again. I had it jumped and the service auto start/stop light, check engine and battery light came on. I pulled out from work and the engine hesitated. After proceeding over an overpass, I went to make a left hand turn onto the highway and a message came up indicating the power steering system had failed, the emergency brake came on and I again experienced a loss of power. I was able to get it to the side of the road on the on ramp where it shut down completely and had to be towed. Due to the loss of power steering, I was almost hit by an oncoming vehicle headed in the opposite direction. The engine also hesitated after starting, the RPM's were spiking to 4K every few seconds and it was producing a clicking sound before my initial departure. The vehicle was towed to Moyer Ram in Lebanon, PA pending an evaluation. In the past, this vehicle was in the shop 4 times for almost getting me in an accident as the vehicle would lose speed and the RPM's would spike and slow the vehicle down to less than 30 miles per hour. This happened several times and despite a dispute pursuant to the lemon laws and multiple videos showing what was happening, they ruled against replacing the vehicle. At one point on a local interstate, while traveling over 65mph's, it was like it slipped into neutral, I lost speed rapidly and was almost rear ended by a tractor trailer. I still have that problem 1-2 times/month but they will do nothing about it and the mechanic couldn't replicate the problem while the dealer had it. Bottom line is I do not feel safe in this vehicle and it's an accident waiting to happen.

Oct 1, 2023

While driving down the highway i received a message in my dash that my power steering was no longer available. I was in a slight curve (not too bad). The steering was instantly hard to move the wheel. It was not too alarming. Then the warning went away and the power steering resumed immediately. Then the pressure that i was using was too much and my truck started swerving until i could regain control of it. Now the power steering is going in and out almost every time i drive it. While the whole thing is dangerous the most worrisome part is the fact that the power steering returns when i am turning causing a jerk to the vehicle depending on what curve i am in at the time.

Jul 15, 2023

The power steering on my 2019 Ram 1500 stopped working while driving on Interstate Hwy 94 in Wisconsin in heavy holiday traffic on Friday, June 30, 2023. The steering wheel vibrated, I heard a warning sound, and a warning message came up that indicated the power steering needed servicing; there was immediate loss of the power steering; this all happened in 2-3 seconds. It was only because I was strong enough that I was able to exit the Interstate and return to my home about 90 miles away. Had my wife or another person with not as much strength been driving, they would not have been able to manage the situation. It is a definite safety issue.
The next time I entered the vehicle a day or two later to have it inspected, it was working again. But, again, on Saturday, July 8, 2023, the same issue occurred on Wisconsin State Hwy 29, after driving approximately 80 miles. My wife was with me this time so she witnessed the event. We pulled into a truck stop to eat. When we returned to the vehicle, it was working again. On Tuesday, July 11, 2023, we had the vehicle inspected by Chilson’s Corner Motors of Cadott, Wisconsin. They determined that the gear rack and pinion system needed to be replaced. The cost was estimated to be $2500. They indicated (and we verified) that the VIN# was not included in the 2019 Rams that were recalled for this issue. After checking other possibilities to correct the issue, we called Chilson’s to order the Gear rack and pinion for the vehicle. Interestingly enough, they did not know how long it would take to receive the part as there was a back order on these parts.

My power steering stopped working when I was driving on a highway. My safety was put at risk when suddenly it was very difficult and almost impossible to control the direction of travel of my truck. The problem was confirmed by Tomball Dodge in Tomball, Texas. The gear-rack and pinion was inspected by Tomball Dodge and they determined that it needed to be replaced. The charge for the repair was approximately $4,000.00 which included a mandatory wheel alignment. I received various warning lamps and messages in November of 2022 when the mileage was a little over 14,000 but if I turned off the engine and restarted it there would be no message or warning lamp on the dash. I called Auto Nation where I purchased the truck to try and make an appointment and they advised they were extremely busy and it would take at least 5-7 days to diagnose the problem. They said it sounded like a software issue and was not anything requiring immediate attention.

On Jan 2nd 2023 I just left the grocery store with my youngest daughter and heading home. While on the freeway my 2019 Ram 1500 Laramie stopped accelerating even with my foot on the gas and my head lights shut off and dash lights were flickering and I lost complete power while making it to the next exit barely able to turn the wheel since no power steering was available and we made it about half way up the ramp and stalled completely. Yes I said up the off ramp and check the date it was SNOWING! WITH MY CHILD IN THE TRUCK. No power, no hazard lights NOTHING to keep us from getting hit. I was able to get it jumped went bought a AGM battery and by the time I drove back home which is about 2 miles the new BATTERY WAS DEAD. Bring it to the dealership after checking (voltages and that the battery can be and hold charge my OBD read only power drain with the battery and Engine dash lights illuminated. Can charge the battery and I would get about 45-60 min of driving because the battery wasn't being charged). I tell them it's the exact description of campaign (V87) 1. System unable to charge battery. 2. Losing power to everything. (Which could have killed us). 3. Only the battery and Engine lights are illuminated. This point to the MGU not working properly. However dealer ship told me it's not even close to that so I excuse them and asked them to repeat that and they said it was the 48v battery that went bad while quoting me $3,700.00 for the repair indicating it was out of warranty. With the age of these batteries die this soon on the E-torque systems that means EVERYONE WILL BE SPENDING AN AVERAGE OF $6,000-$9,000 EXTRA ON THE 48V BATTERY You need to do whats right and have this recalled immediately before someone has to die or worse a child dies.

We bought this truck used around September of last year and it took a couple of months to start having issues. First, when we would turn the truck on and it would crank, we would hear an occasional knock in the rear end. Like something being reemed out. Recently, one two separate occasions, two separate days, we were going to town and all of a sudden the A/C stopped working and extremely hot air started blowing through the vents and we couldn't turn it off or anything. The knobs to turn off the AC didn't turn it off. The only solution was to pull over on the side of the road and kill the truck and then crank it again. I can only imagine if someone else has this truck and a baby or even elderly was sitting in the vehicle and it changed over like this, it would've suffocated them within minutes, the heat was hotter than heat on a vehicle ever thought about being. Also, our backup camera has had moisture in it after a rain and throws up green lines across the screen. It also has had electrical issues, the radio and whole display will sometimes cut off when the brake pedal is pressed. The radio sometimes cuts off on its own or won't turn off when the button is pushed and sometimes this causes distraction to the driver. There has been a rattle in the steering wheel since we have gotten it. Of course, we have taken it to the dealer from where we bought it because we paid for an extended warranty but they can never find an issue because it doesn't do it while in their presence, even though we have pictures of the malfunction. Also, recently we have noticed that the truck doesn't want to take the gas. It will click off the gas probably 3 or 4 times before we can get the truck filled.

Bought 2019 RAM used in March 2020, had 22,500 miles. One morning the radio display began flickering and jumping around to different screens or settings as if someone was controlling it or logged into the control unit. This happened a few times. I videoed some of this going on with my phone. Then called the dealer. They said they would need it to happen while at the shop to determine the problem. Of course it stopped before I made it to the dealer. Dealer looked into it but could not determine an issue or problem. However it appeared to be fixed after that visit. There have be occasions that I’ve had problems starting the truck. It’s almost as if the truck does not sync with key. After removing key, open and shut door or flipping key over, turn key it cranks. January 10, while at work, everything was working fine on truck that morning. After driving 2.5 hrs, I stopped and got out of truck for 5 minutes. Once back at truck, cranked it and began driving off the power steering failed to work. Popped the hood, examined to see if I could find problem but no luck. Carried truck to local mechanic Jan 11. They saw several codes but wasn’t sure of problem. So he cleared all codes and rechecked. Couldn’t find quick easy fix. Then I made appointment with dealer. Dealer said the steering rack and pinion needs replaced but there isn’t a recall on my truck. However I’m seeing a lot of articles about this same issue with 2019 RAM. Also have a co-worker with a RAM that experiences the same odd electrical issues on his RAM. Would like some help to connect the ongoing problems with RAM electrical problems and fix it for all RAM owners. Have videos of radio issues while it’s jumping around but I could not upload in section below. It only allows photos.

The power steering light came on, then the steering wheel began to move in a short abruption manner. Afterwards it was difficult to turn while driving and impossible while in park or at a stop. Vehicle was built in Oct 17, 2018 which there was a recall on other trucks but not this one. Once I went to the dealership and was informed that in fact it was not on the recall, I left. On the way home the steering wheel began the abrupt movement again while I was driving, I lost control of the vehicle for about 5-10 seconds swerving all over the road putting myself and everyone around me at risk. Once I gained full control it went back to normal, steering wheel had full range of motion with no needed of excessive force. “Lost Communication With Power Steering Control Module "A"-” was what was presented as the issue at the dealership.

My power steering is not functioning properly. I have to let my truck warm up for an extended amount of time otherwise it doesn't function. There is a malfunction indicator light that comes in and tells me the power steering needs serviced. Sometimes, even after 30 minutes of warming up, it still doesn't work. I have had it cut out and stop working while I'm driving and been forced to drive it without the power steering working. There is no indication when it will cut on or shut off. It has abruptly started working in the middle of driving and nearly caused me to be in several accidents and almost caused me to run off the road twice. This is a known issue by the manufacturer for the same year, make and model as mine, but for some reason I'm told my vehicle is not included in the recall. This is the only vehicle my family has at the moment and this is dangerous and scary. My vehicle should be included in the recall. I cannot afford this repair on my own right now.

"Stuck" feeling consistently reproduced while at highway speeds making left bend, left lane change, or slight left turn. Problem consistently occurs between 10 and 11 o'clock angle. Problem occurs occasionally with right bends, lane changes, and turns. Problem was experienced immediately at purchase of the vehicle (34K miles) but not fixed until 47k miles. Safety Concern: Problem occurs at high speeds and jerking the steering wheel to correct for the "stick" could lead to overcorrection or slippage, especially in poor weather conditions. Unsafe in dense traffic. Dealer: Dealer identified the issue with the rack and pinion. Dealer said "found rack to have internal fault replaced and set toe cn". Dealer mentioned there was an electrical short in the rack and pinion causing the "stick". Inspection: No inspection made by anyone other than the dealership.

The contact owns a 2019 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving 80 MPH, a flashing warning light appeared on the instrument panel and the vehicle lost power steering functionality. The vehicle was restarted, and the power steering functionality returned. The contact then stated while driving 20 MPH, several unknown warning lights appeared on the instrument panel and the vehicle stalled. The contact waited 5 minutes before restarting the vehicle. The contact stated that the check engine warning light remained illuminated, and the gear shifter failed to move out of park(P). The contact waited for several minutes and was able to drive the vehicle; however, the vehicle lost power steering functionality again. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V020000 (Steering). The dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure, and both confirmed that there were no recalls on the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.

While driving, the truck lost power steering and the EPS light came on.

Dec 3, 2022

When driving the truck at times the steering sticks to the left when making a left turn. The steering sticks around the 9-11 o'clock position on the steering wheel and will not return to center unless you turn the wheel yourself. You can feel the sticking when you bump the wheel toward 12 o'clock to return to center. It is definitely a safety issue and makes me extremely nervous while it is occurring. What if it will not allow me to correct the turning at some point it will cause an accident. I've had it at the garage and they said they could not reproduce the sticking when they were driving it. It does not occur at all times typically only happens after driving the truck for a little while >30 minutes or so. I purchased the truck in April 2022 and it has been occurring off and on since.

Went for routine maintenance and was told a front axle shaft retainer clip had failed allowing axle to move away from differential. This was at the Dodge RAM dealer. Car is a 2019. I called to speak to Dodge representative and was told this was a recall issue but not for my VIN. I find it hard to believe that this failure on a 3 year old truck would not be due to a similar issue.

Nov 11, 2022

I was pulling out of my work parking lot and right as soon as I’m trying to make the turn out of the parking lot my steering wheel would not turn. Thank God I was still in the parking lot, but I was not able to move my steering wheel at all, the dealer said that it was a full painting rack failure in the steering column itself along with the power steering. I have to get my whole fuse and everything replaced, including the whole front end pin rack.

Nov 8, 2022

My vehicle is experiencing electrical issues that cause major systems to stop working while driving. This includes internal messaging screens, blind spot warning and various other systems failing. The most serious of which is the electronic power steering. It went out several times while driving and I nearly lost control of the vehicle. The first time it happened I was traveling and had to take the vehicle to a non dealer repair shop where they replaced the alternator. This initially appeared to resolve the issue but ultimately the problem returned with a few days. FCA has been unable to determine the cause and my truck remains at a local dealership.

Oct 22, 2022

I had a failed 48v battery for the etourque system so the 12v battery was no longer being charged. I had a dispute with the dealer so I picked up the truck and began to drive home. As the generator/alternator for the etourque system was not able to charge the 48v and 12v batteries due to the 48v battery fault, the engine and all systems were running on whatever charge was left in the 12v battery. When the battery began to completely discharge, systems began to fail/go offline. Though the engine was still running as I tried to find a safe spot to pull off the road, the electric power steering failed. Unlike a traditional hydraulic power steering system failure where the wheel can be turned easily at speed and with effort at minimal speed, I was almost unable to turn the wheel at all at over 30 miles per hour. I had to pull as hard as I could to turn at a limited radius until I barely made it to a safe location off the road. The electric power steering system makes it nearly impossible to turn the steering wheel if it loses power. I am a large male and someone weaker or smaller may not have been able to turn the wheel at all.

Three weeks ago, my electrical power steering failed in a parking lot. This locked up the steering wheel going 10 mph. After this, the steering wheel was extremely difficult to move and almost resulted in a collision. I then restarted my truck and the issue went away; however, my steeirng wheel continued to drift and not maintain a straight direction. Two weeks later, roughly 700 miles, the same issue happened again. This time, however, I was travelling roughly 65 mph when the steering failed. A warning popped up on the dashboard only after the steering system failed. This was extremely dangerous because had I not been on a straight road this would have certainly caused my vehicle to crash. This issue was confirmed yesterday by my local Ram dealership. They told me and quoted me that I need to have my "Electric Power Steering Module (Rack)" replaced. The vehicle has not been inspected by Mopar or the FCA, but I did talk to the FCA on the phone--they refused to help. The warning light appeared both times during steering failure, but after the steeirng had already failed--no advance notice.

When traveling at low speeds when turning right the power steering feels like it is going to go out. I noticed that there have been recalls on the 2019 Ram 1500 due to power steering problems. I believe there is something wrong with my vehicle and should be included with the other 2019 Ram 1500's that were recalled for power steering failure. I'm voicing my concern because it is probably only a matter of time before I have a major issue with the power steering.

I was driving on I-75 at approximately 73 mph when my instrument panel lights blinked and then turned off. My vehicle lost all power, I turned the steering wheel about 5-10 degrees to the right and my steering wheel locked. I could not press the brake pedal because it was stuck. I was able to get on the side of the highway where vehicle stopped. Hazard lights did not work, I could not unlock doors, start, or stop the car. When the tow truck came, they checked the battery and it had good voltage. The truck was towed to Feldman Ram dealership since 16 June 2022. I am being told that Mechanics are having difficulty figuring out the problem to this day.

Jun 15, 2022

- There's a malfunction with the rack and pinion resulting in the steering wheel to get stuck in a position while traveling at highway speeds. When making a lane change or a left bend at speeds above 45mph, the steering wheel is sticking at about 20-30 degrees from the top. This results in jolting to overcorrect the steering and get the steering components unstuck. - The component is available for inspection upon request. - The problem is currently being looked at by the dealer, but I have not sought for them to reproduce the problem. - No official inspection has been performed, yet. - No.

Jun 4, 2022

My steering wheel, at high speeds of 60+ mph, would "stick" when turning left, at approximately the 11 to 10 o-clock positions. This stickiness meant the wheel would not return back to center when releasing left turn pressure on its own. It would actually require small amount of force back the other way in which it would "pop" out of the sticky position, causing some very unsafe and scary jerk of the wheels. Both my wife and I experienced it every time the truck was driven on the freeway until we parked the truck due to it being unsafe to drive. I sent the vehicle to the local RAM dealership and they diagnosed it to be an entire "steering rack failure" that would need to be replaced at my cost because the factory warranty time period of 36 months ended, though the mileage period did NOT end as the truck only has 32,000 miles on it. There were no warning lamps or indicators and the truck is 100% stock with no modifications to the wheels, suspension, or drivetrain. The price quoted (not yet the final price) was $4,200.

Driving home from work , as I slowed to turn on to the road that takes me home , I lost power steering, for a brief second I thought I was gonna crash into a on coming vehicle. It then came back and I was able to regain control. The power steering in getting increasingly worse and is happening all the time .there are no service lights displayed, but I am nervous to drive the vehicle. I have taken it to the dealership where the truck was purchased but they have directed me to an actual ram dealership, they said it will be covered under my manufacturer's warranty being that it only has 26,000 miles . This issue is becoming increasingly problematic and stressful since this is the only vehicle I have to drive . I work 1 hour away from home and I am becoming scared to drive it but have no alternative to get to and from work .

Power steering went out. Night of 4/7 I got a notice on the dash saying service power steering as I parked my truck. Morning of 4/8 I went out to take my truck to the dealership to have it looked at and power steering was completely gone. There is an open recall for the exact year model of my make and model however mine is not listed under the recall. After speaking with a Ram customer care rep they advised I reach out here and make an incident report as this may possibly fall under the recall however it was possibly a mistake made given my vehicle is somehow not covered.

my power steering doesn't work properly on my 2019 Ram 1500 classic. when i drive it goes in and out of power steering. i see there is a recall for FCA US has decided that a defect, which relates to motor vehicle safety, exists in certain Electric Power Steering (EPS) gears intended for use on 2013 – 2019 Model Year (DS) Ram 1500 pickup trucks. Some EPS gear assemblies may have been built with a contaminated circuit card assembly that may short circuit. A short in the control circuit components may result in an intermittent loss of power steering assist which may cause an inconsistent steering effort, especially during lower speed maneuvers. Inconsistent steering effort can cause a vehicle crash without prior warning but both FCA and Duluth dodge refuse to inspected the vehicle because they say its not part of the recall.... but it was manufactured in 11/18 which falls into the time period

Vehicle makes a noise similar to the antilock braking sound when making right turns. Ram does not have a fix for the issue. The issue is happening more frequently.

Nov 2, 2021

On October 27, 2021 I was pulling into a parking lot at extremely low speed and upon turning heard a pop noise and felt a minimal jolt in the steering wheel. Letter in the day as I was leaving I turned right to come home and had the same experience. The next morning same thing at slow speed turning either left or right. Made appointment at dealer for first available date which was November 1, 2021. I received this from the dealer service team: Concern Critical Customer States There’S A Popping In The Front End Wall Turning Issue TEST DRIVE AND INSPECT FRONT SUSPENSION - PASSENGER FRONT SWAY BAR LINK WORN/SEPARATED DRIVER SIDE ALSO SHOWING SIGNS OF FAILING NEEDS BOTH REPLACED AND ALIGHNMENT Recommendation REPLACE SWAY BAR LINKS AND ALIGNMENT with an almost $1,300.00 repair bill. I was told this was not covered by my 5 year 60,000 mile warranty and that parts were back ordered and expected not until 11/24/2021. I started researching and located multiple forums that stated this was a known issue. I also spoke to a mechanic that stated this was not normal on a vehicle with under 60,000 miles. I was also told that if it separates it could cause an accident and possibly result in injury or death. My question is why has a recall not been made with this being a known issue. This vehicle I purchased new from this same dealer and had never been off road. I don’t understand the integrity of the design for a vehicle that is four wheel drive and should be built to perform off-road having this issue with no off road activity ever taking place. Could you please take a look into this since I was made aware that if I didn’t pay this large amount for the repair it could be a safety issue? Thanks for your review and looking into this matter.

Steering control While driving higher then 40 MPH the steering stick both right and left when going around a bend. This has caused 2 oversteering events with out accidents or injuries. This will be much more dangerous during inclement weather, especially snow. The dealer or service has not been contacted as of yet, nor have the parts been inspected. No working lamps were illuminated. This vehicle is a Certified Preowned that was purchased out of state. The problem was noted during the ride home after picking up then vehicle. Originally I thought it was the tires, it was not.

When making right and left turns at slow speeds, I hear a buzzing noise and vibration in the steering wheel. I also feel a slight clunk when shifting between 2nd and 3rd gear. I'm afraid if I keep driving with this issue, this may cause a possible lost of steering/control.

Sep 8, 2021

When turning left at speeds over 40 mph the steering sticks or loses power assist when coming out of the turn. Turning to the right is unaffected and works normally. Been to the dealer with this complaint twice, each time they said there was no fault code and they could not find a problem. Driving at highway speeds in traffic can be very scary, anyone that drives this truck and is not aware of this steering issue could result in a wreck.

Aug 23, 2021

This truck makes a grinding or rubbing sensation when turning and when turning and breaking. The sensation comes from the steering column and vibrates through the steering wheel. It is audible as well. Obviously, this is a concern not only for me any my occupants, but for others on the road way as well as I do not know what is causing this rubbing or grinding. This vehicle has been checked out by my dealer and they do not know what is wrong with it, although they were able to experience the problem for themselves. They also informed me that this is a known issue and that Chrysler is aware of the problem as there are many other trucks like mine with this defect. This issue started very sporadically and has continually gotten worse.

When turning the steering wheel right I felt a resistance and a grinding/rubbing in the steering system. This has happened several times to both me and my spouse. We have taken it to the dealer, and were told it could not be duplicated. The issue first happened when the truck was less than 6 months old, and just happened again today for maybe the 10th time at just over 2 years and 35,000 miles.

While slowing down from 45mph on a flat level road (over a bridge) prior to making a turn the outer passenger tie rod end completely decoupled from the hub's backing plate. I almost completely lost steering. Had another vehicle been in the area, or had the incident happened a second or two earlier there could have been a crash or even a fatality. I was able to torque steer the vehicle around the turn and bring it to a stop on the adjacent street. I couldn't locate the tie rod nut - so I don't know where it came off. The vehicle was flat bedded to the dealer last night. There were not any warning signs that this part was about to fail before it did. The dealer claims that it only needs an outer tie rod and an alignment.

JUST OVER 23,600MI OF GENERALLY ON-ROAD USE, THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING (EPS) FAILED ON A TRAIL IN THE SNOW, NEARLY SENDING THE TRUCK TRUCK UNCONTROLLED INTO AN EMBANKMENT. THE EPS HAD FIRST LOCKED UP DURING A 3-POINT TURN - THE STEERING FEEL WAS AS IF THE STEERING LOCK SNAPPED 'ON', NOT ALLOWING THE WHEEL TO RETURN TO CENTER AFTER BEING TURNED (TO THE RIGHT). NO ERROR LIGHTS WERE SEEN, SO I CHALKED IT UP TO A FLUKE. THIS THEN HAPPENED A FEW MORE TIMES ON THE SAME DAY, AT UNEVEN INTERVALS UNTIL THE EPS FAILURE WITHOUT NOTICE. WHEN THE EPS FAILED, A LOUD WHINING / GRINDING SOUND WAS EMITTED FROM THE STEERING AREA AT THE SLIGHTEST ROTATION OF THE STEERING WHEEL. WITH THE TRUCK OFF, THE STEERING RACK MADE A DEEPER 'THUNK WHEN THE WHEEL WAS ROTATED MANUALLY AND AT THAT POINT, THE EPS STAYED OFF, ALLOWING NON-EPS STEERING TO RECOVER THE TRUCK. I SHUT THE TRUCK OFF STARTED IT AGAIN AND EVERYTHING SEEMED FINE. I WAS 3 HOURS FROM HOME SINCE EVERYTHING SEEMED FINE AFTER DRIVING ANOTHER 30 MILES OR SO I HEADED DOWN THE MOUNTIN TO GO HOME. HEADING DOWN HILL ON A VERY CURVY ROAD I LOST ALL POWER STEERING ON A CORNER AND IT TOOK EVERYTHING I HAD TO KEEP IT ON THE ROAD AND AVOID DRIVING OFF THE SIDE OF A MOUNTAIN. EXXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND SCARY. I WAS ABLE TO LIMP THE TRUCK HOME FROM THERE DRIVING AT SLOW SPEEDS TO BE ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL. I AM DRIVING A 2019 RAM 1500 BIGHORN.

THIS ISSUE STARTED SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASE AND HAS CONTINUED TO WORSEN OVER TIME. 1ST PROBLEM....STEERING COLUMN RATTLES LOUDLY IN-BETWEEN 45 AND 60 MPH AND AT SPEEDS BELOW 10MPH. TRUCKS FRONT END GRINDS WHEN MAKING SLOW SPEED RIGHT HAND TURNS. ALSO TRUCK LURCHES, GRINDS AND RATTLES THE ENTIRE FRONT END SLOWING DOWN OR BACKING UP AT SLOW SPEEDS....THIS HAPPENS WHEN BRAKES ARE NOT BEING APPLIED. SOMETIMES WHEN I DRIVE THE TRUCK THE STEERING WHEEL STAYS OFF CENTER TO THE RIGHT AND PULLS VERY HARD TO THE RIGHT. CHRYSLER SAYS IT POSSIBLE THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING RACK BUT THEY DONT HAVE A FIX. GETS WORSE ALMOST EVERY DAY. 2ND PROBLEM....I HAVE NOTICED THE TRUCK HAS MARKS WHERE THE KNUCKLE AND THE LOWER CONTROL ARM ARE HITTING EACH OTHER. I UNDERSTAND THE NEED FOR STEERING STOPS BUT THESE ARE NOT STEERING STOP HITS. THESE PARTS ARE STRUCTURAL PARTS OF THE TRUCK THAT ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO HIT. BOTH SIDES ARE DOING THIS AND I DO NOT FEEL THE TRUCK IS SAFE WITH THIS ISSUE AND IT HAS CAUSED STRESSED AREAS ON THE FRONT END OF THE TRUCK. THIS COULD CAUSE PARTS TO FAIL AND HAVE SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES AT ANY SPEED THE TRUCK IS GOING IF THEY DECIDE TO FAIL. MY TRUCK HAS BEEN TO THE DEALERSHIP 4 TIMES AND WAS JUST DROPPED OFF AGAIN TODAY. THEY SAID THEY MAY HAVE TO REPLACE THE PARTS THAT ARE HITTING...BUT THEY ARE THE SAME PARTS AND IT WILL DO THE SAME EXACT THING AGAIN. THEY GAVE ME A 2019 RAM TO DRIVE AS A LOANER AND THIS TRUCK DOESNT HAVE THE AIR SUSPENSION LIKE MINE DOES. I INSPECTED UNDER THE TRUCK AND FOUND THE SAME EXACT ISSUE ON THIS TRUCK. I BELIEVE CHRYSLER HAS A SERIOUS ISSUE WITH THESE TRUCKS THAT STARTED WITH THE DESIGN AND THEY ARE NOT TAKING CARE OF THE ISSUE. I HAVE A $62,000 DOLLAR TRUCK I DO NOT FEEL IS SAFE AND I AM NOT GETTING ANSWERS TO CORRECT THESE ISSUES. THE DATE BELOW IS ESTIMATED WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP THE FIRST TIME. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH NO RESOLVE FROM CHRYSLER

TRUCK WAS IN MOTION ON A CITY STREET AT 40MPH. APPROACHED A STOP LIGHT AND THE WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD STARTED GOING OFF (ALL OF THEM). THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS WENT ON AND OFF BY THEMSELVES, BLINKS DIDN'T WORK, HAZARDS DIDN'T WORK, THE RPM AND MPH GAUGES KEPT GOING UP AND DOWN. THE BRAKES DIDN'T WORK SO I HAD TO USE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP. PULLED INTO A PARKING LOT, SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF, WAITED 5 MINUTES AND STARTED IT UP AGAIN. SAME THING HAPPENED. SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF AND WAITED 10 MINUTES, STARTED IT BACK UP AND THIS TIME ONLY THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I MADE IT HOME 2 MILES DOWN THE ROAD. STEERING STICKS IN THE 11 O'CLOCK POSITION IN LEFT CURVES OF 30 DEGREES AT SPEEDS OF 30 MPH OR MORE. THE FASTER THE SPEED THE MORE PRONOUNCED THE STICK. THIS IS THE STICKING PROBLEM REPORTED BY MANY IN THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING, NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH THE GROUND ISSUE TOTAL POWER LOSS. THE PROBLEM WAS ORIGINALLY CORRECTED AT 1879 MILES BY THE DEALER REPLACING THE RACK AND PINION ASSEMBLY. PROBLEM REAPPEARED OVER THE WEEKEND 7/24/2019 AT 35,200 MILES. I'LL BE TAKING IT TO THE DEALER THIS WEEK. IT IS OBVIOUS THAT THERE IS SOMETHING AMISS IN RAM'S RACK AND PINION ASSEMBLIES. THIS PROBLEM COULD DEFINITELY RESULT IN THE DEATH OR INJURY OF THE OCCUPANTS OF THE VEHICLE OR THE OCCUPANT'S OF OTHER VEHICLES. I FIND REFERENCES ON RAM FORUMS ABOUT THIS ISSUE AS FAR BACK AS FALL OF 2018, THE SAME AS MY ORIGINAL PROBLEM. I AM HIGHLY SURPRISED THAT RAM HASN'T FOUND AN ANSWER FOR THIS PROBLEM.

TRUCK WAS TOWED TO DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE. WAS TOLD THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE--LOOSE GROUND WIRE IN FRONT DRIVER FENDER AREA. WAS TOLD ISSUE WAS FIXED. PICKED UP TRUCK. WITHIN WEEKS, LOSS OF POWER STEERING RECURRED WHILE DRIVING AT 35-40 MPH, THEN ABRUPTLY RESUMED IN ABOUT A MINUTE. AGAIN, OVERCORRECTION AT THIS POINT COULD HAVE RESULTED IN SERIOUS CRASH. WHEN TURNING THE WHEEL TO THE RIGHT FOR A CURVE IN THE ROAD, THE STEERING WHEEL CENTERS CORRECTLY, AS ALL VEHICLES WOULD THAT ARE ALIGNED PROPERLY. HOWEVER, A LEFT HAND CURVE AT JUST ABOUT ANY SPEED, HAS A CATCH IN IT. IT WILL WANT TO CONTINUE TURNING LEFT EVEN AFTER I'M OUT OF THE CURVE. IT'S AS IF THERE'S A HIGH SPOT IN A ROUND GEAR OR A TIGHT COG IN A GEAR. I HAVE TO PUT PRESSURE ON THE WHEEL TO PULL IT BACK. I'VE HAD THE ALIGNMENT CHECKED. I MENTIONED SOMETHING TO THE DEALER AFTER FIRST NOTICING IT, AND HE SUGGESTED THE BUTTON THAT WILL PULL BACK THE WHEEL WHEN THE TRUCK WANDERS OUT OF THE LANE. AFTER TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH, FOR 10 TO 20 MINUTES THE STEERING WILL STICK AT AROUND THE 1100 TO 1000 O'CLOCK POSITION DURING LEFT HAND TURNS ON INTERSTATES. IF LEFT ALONE THE STEERING WILL NOT REALIGN AT THE 12 O'CLOCK POSITION AND VEHICLE WILL CONTINUE TO VEER LEFT . YOU MUST MANUALLY STEER RIGHT PAST A NOTICEABLE DETENT IN THE STEERING PATH TO RETURN THE WHEEL TO CORRECT POSITION. THE LONGER YOU DRIVE THE MORE NOTICEABLE THE STICKING BECOMES AND MORE FORCE IS REQUIRED TO BRING THE WHEEL BACK TO CENTER. AS THE FORCE REQUIREMENT INCREASES THE INCREASE OF OVERCORRECTIONS OCCURS. THIS IS QUICKLY BECOMING VERY DANGEROUS. OF NOTE IS THE FACT THIS WILL NOT OCCUR BELOW HIGHWAY SPEEDS EVEN AFTER TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS FOR 20 MINUTES. ONCE YOU GO BELOW 60 THE MALFUNCTION WILL NOT DUPLICATE. THIS VEHICLE HAS HAD ALL REQUIRED RECALL REPAIRS FOR GROUND CABLE PRIOR TO PURCHASE. WHILE MY 2019 RAM 1500 IS IN MOTION, IT HAS A PULL / DRIFT TO THE RIGHT. THE PULL / DRIFT TO THE RIGHT OCCURS WHEN LIGHTLY HOLDING THE STEERING WHEEL OR MOMENTARILY LETTING GO OF THE STEERING WHEEL. THE PULL / DRIFT TO THE RIGHT OCCURS ON ALL TYPES OF ROAD SURFACES. THE GRADE OF THE ROAD DOES IMPACT THE PULL / DRIFT AS IT IS EXAGGERATED WITH A STEEPER RIGHTWARD GRADE, HOWEVER IT WILL DRIVE STRAIGHT IF THE ROAD HAS A SLIGHT LEFTWARD GRADE. WITH A MILD RIGHTWARD GRADE, I HAVE TO PUT A LITTLE LEFTWARD PRESSURE ON THE STEERING WHEEL TO KEEP IT FROM VEERING RIGHT. THIS OCCURS AT SPEEDS OF 10 TO 80MPH ON CITY STREETS AND HIGHWAYS. IF THE DRIVER GETS DISTRACTED FOR A MOMENT, THE VEHICLE WILL UNINTENTIONALLY CHANGE LANES OR PULL THE VEHICLE OFF THE ROAD. I HAVE HAD IT SERVICED AND THE ALIGNMENT CHECKED 4 TIMES AT CORWIN CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM IN FARGO, ND AND THEY TELL ME THE ALIGNMENT IS WITHIN SPEC AND THERE IS NOTHING ELSE THEY CAN DO. TIRE PRESSURE IS EQUAL IN ALL FOUR TIRES. THE SERVICE MANAGER STATES A RIGHTWARD PULL IS CHARACTERISTIC OF NEW VEHICLES. I DO NOT BELIEVE MY VEHICLE, NOR ANY ANYONE ELSE'S, SHOULD BE PULLING TO THE RIGHT AND POTENTIALLY CAUSING A MOTOR VEHICLE CRASH. THE TRUCK SHOULD DRIVE STRAIGHT WITH THE EXCEPTION OF OUTSIDE INFLUENCES SUCH AS STEEP ROAD GRADES, HIGH CROSS WINDS, ETC.

ITS ENTERTAINMENT AND IVE HAD IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP MENY TIMES. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND MAY LOSE CONTROL BY OVERCOMPENSATING FOR IT. PURCHASED TRUCK IN DEC 2018. ABOUT A MONTH IN AROUND 2000 MILES STARTED EXPERIENCING THE STEERING WHEEL STICKING AROUND THE 11:00 POSITION AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. I DRIVE 1500 TO 2000 MILES A MONTH AND AFRAID I AM GOING TO OVERCORRECT ESPECIALLY IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. SPOKE WITH DEALERSHIP AND THEY DO NOT HAVE A SOLUTION FOR THE PROBLEM. HAD THE RECALL TAKEN CARE OF ON THE BATTERY CABLE AND THIS DID NOT CORRECT THE ISSUE EITHER. FEELS LIKE A PROBLEM IN THE STEERING LINKAGE. I HAVE ALSO STARTED NOTICING WHICH FEELS LIKE THE TRUCK IS STARTING TO FLOAT SIDE TO SIDE AND AM HAVING TO CORRECT TO KEEP IT IN THE LANE. THIS TRUCK DOES NOT HAVE LANE ASSIST ON IT SO THAT COULD NOT BE THE PROBLEM.

STEERING STICKS WHEN TURNING LEFT ON CURVY ROADS AND THE TRUCK FEELS LIKE ITS STRADDLING A HUMP, THIS HAPPENS WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS FROM 5 TO 40 MILES AN HOUR SO FAR. I JUST PICKED THE TRUCK UP BRAND NEW FROM THE DEALER, I WILL BE CONTACTING DEALER TO SEE IF I CAN GET SERVICE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, I LOOKED UP THIS PROBLEM ON THE WEB, AND FOUND A FEW OTHERS ON RAM FORUM .COM WITH THE SAME PROBLEM, AFTER SEVERAL VISITS TO THE DEALER THE DEALER REPLACED THE STEERING RACK WHICH SEEMED TO RESOLVE THERE PROBLEM. THE STEERING SEEMS TO STICK WHILE IN A SLIGHT LEFT TURN AND DOESN'T WANT TO RETURN TO CENTER, UNLESS I APPLY MORE PRESSURE TO TURN BACK TO STRAIGHT. ALSO THE TRUCK FEELS A LITTLE WOBBLY, AND LIKE ITS STRADDLING A HUMP IN THE ROAD, TURNS TO THE RIGHT ARE FINE IT HAS NO PROBLEM GOING RIGHT JUST LEFT.*DT CONSUMER STATE THE ANSWER TO DID IT TAKE FORCE TO RETURN THE WHEEL BACK TO CENTER IS NOT MUCH FORCE, MAYBE A POUND OR TWO OF FORCE. PURCHASED 2019 RAM 1500 AROUND 9/8/2018 ONE WEEK AFTER HAVING IT THE STEERING WHEEL STARTED STICKING ONLY WHEN TURNING TO THE LEFT AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. SINCE THEN THE PROBLEM HAS GREATLY INCREASED. THIS DOES IT AS STATED ON SWEEPING TURNS ON THE INTERSTATE OR HIGHWAY SPEEDS ONLY. I HAVE TO JERK THE STEERING WHEEL BACK TO THE RIGHT IN A HARD MOTION TO GET THE TRUCK GOING BACK STRAIGHT AFTER THESE TURNS. THIS IS SCARY AND CAUSES THE TRUCK TO SWAY AT SUCH SPEEDS. THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE STEERING HOWEVER THIS DID NOT CORRECT THE ISSUE. IT IS CURRENTLY IN ITS 4TH TRIP TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR 9 MONTHS WITHOUT BEING CORRECTED. AFTER ~ 1000 MILES THE STEERING WHEEL DOES NOT RE-CENTER WHILE MAKING LEFT TURNS - EITHER ON EXIT/ENTRY RAMPS (BROAD SLOW TURNS) OR HARD LEFT TURNS. STEERING FIGHTS YOU TO BRING WHEEL AND TRUCK BACK TO CENTER. THIS HAPPENS AFTER DRIVING FOR AT LEAST 30 FOR 40 MINUTES AND IS ONLY FOR LEFT TURNS. IT DOES NOT HAPPEN FOR RIGHT TURNS. HAPPENS AFTER AND DURING HIGHWAY DRIVING. WHEN TURNING RIGHT, THE TURN HAPPENS AND THEN THE WHEELS NATURALLY RE-CENTER. THIS IS HARD TO DESCRIBE AND A SHORT TEST DRIVE DOES NOT PRODUCE THE PROBLEM. IT HAS TO BE DRIVEN FOR AT LEAST 30 MINUTES MOSTLY AT HIGHWAY SPEED. THIS IS HAPPENING FREQUENTLY..

VEHICLE STEERING STICKS DURING LEFT TURNS AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. AFTER VEHICLE HAS BEEN DRIVEN FOR APPROX 1 HOUR, DURING LEFT TURNS AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, 65+ MPH, THE STEERING WILL HOLD AT APPROXIMATELY THE 10 O'CLOCK POSITION RESULTING IN UNPREDICTABLE AND UNSAFE DRIVING CONDITIONS. DUE TO THE REQUIREMENT OF HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND APPROX 1 HR DRIVE TIME, DEALERSHIPS WON'T TAKE THE EFFORT TO BE ABLE TO REPLICATE THIS SAFETY ISSUE. WITHOUT REPLICATION BOTH THE DEALERSHIP AND RAM CUSTOMER SERVICE CONSIDER IT A NON ISSUE. THIS ISSUE IS NOT RELATED TO THE GROUND RECALL ALREADY ISSUED FOR THE 2019 RAMS. THIS SAFETY ISSUE IS ALSO REPORTED BY NUMEROUS OTHER 2019 RAM OWNERS IN ONLINE FORUMS. EFFORTS TO GET THIS ISSUE RESOLVED THROUGH THE DEALERSHIP AND RAM CUSTOMER SUPPORT HAVE BEEN UNSATISFACTORY. THIS IS NOT A MINOR PROBLEM AND COULD RESULT IN SERIOUS DAMAGE OR LOSS OF LIFE ON THE ROAD. JUST BECAUSE A PROBLEM CANNOT BE REPLICATED IN A SHORT TEST DRIVE DOES NOT EQUATE TO THEIR NOT BEING A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN ON THESE VEHICLES.*DT CONSUMER HAD THE RECALL PERFORMED AND THE STEERING PROBLEM IS STILL PRESENT. WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL STICKS YOU HAVE TO APPLY SOME EXTRA FORCE TO GET IT TO RETURN TO CENTER AS WELL AS SOMETIMES IT WILL HOLD MOMENTARILY AND JERK BACK ON ITS OWN. THE CONCERN IS THE UNPREDICTABILITY OF IT AND THE POTENTIAL OVER/UNDER STEER AT HIGHER SPEEDS. ONCE THE PROBLEM PRESENTS ITSELF AFTER LONGER PERIODS OF DRIVING IT WILL ALSO THEN DO IT OCCASIONALLY AT SLOWER SPEEDS AS WELL. THERE HAVE NOT BEEN ANY CHIMES OR MESSAGES THAT APPEAR ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. IT HAS BEEN IN TO SERVICE BUT THEY HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO REPLICATE. UNFORTUNATELY THIS ISSUE HAS ONLY APPEARED DURING LONGER ROAD TRIPS AT INTERSTATE SPEEDS WITH LONG LEFT TURNS SO IT IS UNLIKELY A DEALER WOULD BE ABLE TO REPLICATE IT ON A SHORT TEST DRIVE. I KNOW FROM THE FORUMS THAT PEOPLE WITH SIMILAR ISSUES HAVE HAD IT RESOLVED WITH THE REPLACEMENT OF THE STEERING RACK. *JB
