Dec 20, 2025

My 2020 Ram 1500 exhaust manifold leak often causes a loud ticking noise, especially on startup, due to broken bolts or a cracked manifold.

Dec 4, 2025

Smoke leaks into cabin when heat is on. Possibly coolant/heating core. I saw many complaints for the same issue on the internet and figured i would make an official complaint

After hearing a grinding noise coming from the engine, I took the vehicle (2020 RAM 1500 w/5.7L eTorque) to the dealer. It's been waiting for a replacement MGU (Motor Generator Unit) for over 3 weeks but I'm told it might take months to get a replacement part. Fortunately, I discovered this before having a breakdown on a busy highway or up in the mountains. Had that occured, I most certainly would have lost the ability to steer the truck and braking would have been diminished. I'm hoping this manufacturing defect is elevated to safety recall status in the hope of preventing future loss of life.

Nov 11, 2025

The e-Torque motor generator unit is failing, rendering the truck unsafe to drive. Catastrophic failure of this unit while in operation would likely cause loss of control. Signs of failure primarily have been increasing noise in the unit common to bearing failure. The component was inspected by an independent service center and confirmed to need immediate replacement. The part is currently unavailable from any source, and the manufacturer reports a back order with no known date of availability.

Nov 6, 2025

The etorque generator stopped working, I can’t find the part in any dealership since it’s back ordered with no release date on more than 10,000 parts according to all the dealerships

I leased this vehicle, brand new. I bought out the lease just over a year ago. The truck has under 113,000 miles. I drove the vehicle to New York for a trip. The motor started, knocking, ticking real bad so I pulled into the shop (Monroe) they looked at the engine and said it's blown. They was no waring/check engine light never came on. Gauges were fine (digital). It cost me 16 grand to put a new motor in and dodge will not cover it. The mechanic also stated, he sees these engine blown (V6) all the time in my RAM and in the Durango's.

ABS module needs replaced. It was recalled in all trucks except for this year model. It is currently on back order and I have been waiting for the part for almost a year! All emergency lights in the dash are on all the time and now when I am driving, the accelerator goes completely dead. It happens randomly and has happened multiple times now. The dealership has accessed this and stated that the ABS module will fix the problem. This is very dangerous and needs to be looked into. Why can’t they fix my truck?

Oct 21, 2025

The mgu/generator went out and left me stranded due to battery failure. I had no steering or power brakes. Everything electrical failed. Have been waiting for new mgu for 2 months.

I took my 2020 Ram 1500 EcoDiese to a Chrysler-Dodge-Ram dealership on 9/23/25 for the High Pressure Fuel Pump (HPFP) safety recall. I was told a part had to be ordered to complete the recall and gave me a rental vehicle. After a few days I contacted the dealership about my repair. They said the wrong part was ordered and the new one was in route. After about a week, I called the dealership again and I was told "the truck won't start and they were working with Stellantis to figure out why." Several more days passed, I called again, they stated that after the new pump was installed and the truck was started it "blew a rod," but they had fixed it, test drove it, and it would be ready for pick up the next day. I picked up the truck on 10/16/25 and drove less than 50 miles (first trip home from the dealership.) While traveling at highway speed on interstate 77 at night, the truck suddenly lost all engine power, a “throttle” warning message appeared, I noticed a strong odor of burnt oil, and I was only able to get from the left passing lane across to the right truck lane, only getting 2 tires on the shoulder (see pic). The truck would not start again, it just made a click-click-click sound. I jumped out of the truck as there was a truck in that lane coming toward me and ran into the woods to escape. I and the truck were nearly struck by traffic. This was a life-threatening situation. Luckily, a Courtesy Patrol saw me and blocked the lane with road flares. Eventually the truck was towed (had to be dragged on to the flatbed). At that time I noticed engine oil was splashed all over the underside of truck. It was towed to the same dealership. This catastrophic failure occurred hours after I was told it was safe to drive. This incident placed my life and the lives of other motorists at extreme risk. A recall intended to improve safety appears to have introduced a new, severe safety hazard. The truck has been at the dealership since 10/17/25 and I have not been updated since.

The contact owns a 2020 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended while depressing the accelerator pedal. No warning lights were illuminated. In addition, the contact stated that there was an abnormal sound coming from the engine. The contact was unable to pull over to the side of the road. While the vehicle was still on the road, the contact shifted to park(P) and then back to drive(D), and the vehicle returned to normal functionality. However, the contact stated that the failure had occurred six times. The contact stated that on a separate occasion, while driving at an undisclosed speed, there was an abnormal sound coming from the engine. In addition, the contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the gear knob independently shifted gears. The contact stated that the gear knob was in drive(D) and then independently shifted to park(P). It was unknown if any warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. Most recently, after reversing out of the driveway and then driving forward, the front passenger’s side mirror independently moved inwards. The failure obstructed the driver's visibility and prevented the driver from safely operating the vehicle. The contact pulled over to the side of the road and manually pulled the front passenger’s side mirror outward. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 62,000.

The tensioner pulley seized up causing the serpentine belt to break and taking the MGU E Torque Alternator out. We have learned that there are no MGU parts available and we are one of 4000 waiting with no ETA available. You can’t buy a used one as they can not be reprogrammed to a different truck.

Sep 24, 2025

I purchased a brand new 2020 Ram 1500 with 5.7-liter hemi ETORQUE engine in 2020. The vehicle had been making a squealing noise since before 40k miles. Dealership was unable to identify issue on numerous occasions. On 4/8/2024, with vehicle mileage at 74k miles, the noise worsened to a point where the vehicle was not drivable. They identified the "Alternator" (MGU) to the etorque needed to be replaced. The part was on back order and did not arrive until 6/24/2025. At which the dealership replaced the part and expedited the return of the vehicle without proper assurance that the replaced part, fixed the vehicles problem. Less than 375 miles later, a system battery saver came up on the dash. Turning off all electronics in the vehicle including but not limited to A/C and radio. Temps were more than 100 at this time. Within less than 550 miles, the vehicle lost all power and shut off while in the middle of an interstate. I lost my power steering and luckily was able to move onto a narrow shoulder but was left in a very dangerous situation with my family on the side of a high-speed interstate, awaiting a tow truck for hours, without rear end protection. There were a lot of close calls and no urgency from RamCare Stellantis. I was told that the vehicle can only be seen by a certified ram technician. The only certified Ram Dealership that was willing to help was more than 30 minutes away, where the vehicle still sits today. Now the vehicle has been at a dealership since that break down on 7/3/2025. Awaiting another back ordered part, with no estimated eta. This time it is awaiting a 48V Power Pack, related to 8yr/80k mile warranty. I am having to pay out of pocket for a rental, while still paying on a car loan and insurance on a vehicle I have not been able to use since April. Customer service has been horrific handling my case. Leaving myself with no certainty that I will ever see my vehicle again or if the long awaited back ordered part will in fact fix the issue.

My 2020 Ram 1500 etorque had a major breakdown. My husband was driving down the highway in a construction zone when he lost power steering, power brakes and then the vehicle totally shut down. He had to steer it to the side of the highway, barely making it. We had the vehicle towed to the dealership who ran diagnostics on it and told us the Mechanical Generator Unit (MGU) needed to be replaced. The major issue: the MGU could not be found anywhere in the US. They wasn't able to order / backorder from anywhere. They said it could take months or longer to get the part. We couldn't go indefinitely without our truck so the dealer recommended we trade it in. That was our only option so that was what we were forced to do. We did not want another vehicle!! Ours was paid off.

2020 RAM 1500 with a bad MGU (Motor-Generator Unit). Dealer says they have 2 trucks already waiting on the same part since January. There is a massive backlog and Chrysler is not offering anything on when this will be available. It's on an "engineering hold". It will eventually fail in these trucks and render them inoperable. Waiting 8-9 months for a part should never be an option in any scenario. This is also covered under the Federal Emissions Warranty.

Generator/altenator. MGU system. Vehicle was hard to crank at store. After it cranked it seemed fine until I went to pull into traffic. Then it completely died In the middle of the road where I was nearly t boned by a garbage truck. All power was gone. No lights, no radio not a thing worked. After 10 minutes waiting in my wife, it cranked. I was driving home and it started smelling something burning like rubber in the cab. Apparently it was the battery in the back seat over heating. It never crunk again and is now in the shop after being towed. MGU failure and burnt batteries. On back order for months is what I am hearing.

Aug 15, 2025

RAM has a bad design on MGU's, new ones and old ones are failing, whining, causing engine spudder and no movement at times. Can't purchase one because RAM has them on "Engineering HOLD". Therefore they no they have an issue, not offer a replacement. I have been advised if they become available I'm looking at $2,000 for an alternator. That is insane.

The contact's mother owns a 2020 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, there was an abnormal knocking sound coming from the vehicle, and the on/off switch and battery low level warning lights were illuminated. The contact drove the vehicle to a nearby parking lot. The contact stated the engine seized while driving at 5 MPH. The contact stated that the failure was due to a failed motor generator unit. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with a failed motor generator unit. The contact was informed that the motor generator unit needed to be replaced. The vehicle was being repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failur,e and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 95,000.

Failure of the Motor Generator Unit (MGU). This part is available for inspection and review. The failure of this component can result in complete immobilization of the vehicle which poses a significant safety risk for users and pedestrians alike. The problem has been a wide-spread issue for the Ram 1500 series. This issue was acknowledged by Ram and Stelantis. Ram has reviewed my MGU and confirmed that the component is faulty. The only warning was a whining noise and then the vehicle became completely incapacitated.

Aug 1, 2025

I own a 2020 RAM 1500 Big Horn 4WD with the 5.7L HEMI eTorque system. The vehicle began making a whining noise while running. A certified diagnosis confirmed the failure of the engine generator unit, part number 68623194AB, which is required to keep the eTorque system functional. This part has been on nationwide backorder for an extended period with no estimated time of arrival from Mopar or the dealership. The vehicle is currently undriveable and unsafe, and I have not been given a timeline or support for alternative transportation. The unavailability of this critical hybrid powertrain component has made my vehicle unusable for weeks, and I’ve seen numerous reports from other RAM owners experiencing the same issue with no resolution. There is a serious risk to safety and reliability if this continues to be ignored. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this widespread part shortage and potential manufacturer defect. There should be a recall or mandated parts response for affected vehicles if the manufacturer cannot supply replacement components for a core electrical system.

The contact owns a 2020 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving 60 MPH, the message "Service High Pressure Fuel Pump" was displayed. The check engine warning light was illuminated, and the vehicle lost motive power. The contact was able to pull over to the right side of the roadway. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle, and the vehicle operated as intended. The contact stated that the vehicle was previously repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V767000 (Fuel System, Gasoline, Engine); however, the repair failed to fix the vehicle. The failure reoccurred after the recall repair. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 35,000.

I am writing to report a serious and dangerous issue with my 2020 Ram 1500. The vehicle has been randomly shutting off while I am driving, often accompanied by a strange acceleration or revving sound just before the engine dies. This has occurred multiple times without warning, creating an extremely unsafe driving situation. The issue happens at random and cannot be easily reproduced on demand, which I understand may make it difficult to diagnose. However, it is important to emphasize that this is a major safety risk that could easily result in a crash or injury.

Jun 20, 2025

Cracked exhaust manifold. I know of three people, besides myself, with the 2020 Ram with 5.7 literally Hemi that have had cracked exhaust manifold. Mopar has a technical service bulletin, but the cost to repair is on me.

Jun 2, 2025

My truck would engage the emergency braking without any objects near. Battery needed to be replaced due to not charging. The etorque is making noise and vibrating.

May 19, 2025

The contact owns a 2020 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving 65-70 MPH and towing a trailer, the traction control engaged, and the vehicle went into LIMP Mode. The Police had aided with getting the vehicle off the roadway. The traction control and engine warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, and two unknown local dealers were unable to determine the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The brake control was previously replaced. The manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to the dealer and the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 2,500.

Sitting in traffic, truck started overheating. Gauge was jumping all over. Truck had to be turned off

May 11, 2025

Exhaust manifold is ticking after only hitting 47k miles. Of course the warranty has been out for a month now. The dealership won’t cover it quoting me $3,200 to replace both of them.

Apr 27, 2025

Due to the recall Z96/NHTSA 22V-767 my fuel pump failed in 2023, causing my check engine light to come on due to a fuel injector warning. The dealership replaced the fuel pump, but nothing else was replaced or checked. In April 2025, my check engine light came back on for a #4 Glow Plug issue. The truck at this point had 56k miles on it, and was out of warranty. I took it to a local mechanic, who found the glow plug had shrapnel on it, causing it to fail. He believes it is due to the high pressure fuel pump failure the previous year, releasing debris into the fuel system. This is a safety issue due to the loss of engine power, and if multiple cylinders are affected could cause the vehicle to go limp.

So I am driving on the freeway 70mph and I get a message on my dash that says service shifter then every single light on the dash came on and started to make a beeping noise. I pulled over on the side of the freeway and then all the lights dissappear except check engine. I continued to drive to next exit and this time all lights came on again and truck appeared to be shutting off and turning back on while driving, steering wheel got hard to move all while all lights turning on, on dash. I have taken to shop 3 times first time they told me it was battery so I purchased battery and diagnostic fee for 600. Still continued to have issues even after replacing battery. Then they tell me they don't know what's causing this issue and the truck hasn't been fixed. I'll let the truck sit a few days and check engine light is gone and it will drive normal until the issues pops up again. I just don't know what to do about issue and have lost hope nobody seems to know what's causing thr issue. I have videos of this happening multiple times and I show to shops and they are just im awe and can't figure out what is happening. This happened to me yesterday 4/25/25 and while driving the truck started to show all lights on dash and immediately put itself into park while I was driving about 20 mph. Turned the truck off and started it back on again and got the service shifter message and drove home slowly and truck sat in driveway. I've taken in the truck multiple times and nobody seems to know what is causing the issue and I'm tired of spending money things they believe it to be. Any help would be greatly appreciated as we are starting to lose hope on this vehicle and are thinking about letting get repossessed as it's not useful to us if it can't be fixed

The contact owns a 2020 Ram 1500. The contact stated while stopped at a traffic light, there was an abnormal rattling sound coming from the engine. The contact pulled over to the right side and attempted to restart the vehicle; however, the vehicle failed to respond. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to Town and Country Garage. A dealer was contacted. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the engine had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 61,000.

Driving down the road, my auto start stop failure light appeared on dash, followed by a check engine light and a battery light. Tried to pull over on the side of the road when I lost all electrical components including power steering, ac, radio etc. the truck slammed itself into park abruptly and turned itself off. I was stranded on the side of the road and nearly got hit by passing cars several times as I was in a curve in the road. After further investigation it has been determined that the bearings inside of the generator (part number: 68623194AB) went out. The part needed to fix the truck is not being made by the supplier and I have been nearly 2 months and counting paying for a truck to sit and look pretty as the truck is completely unusable. One dealership told me this part was on back order for over Five thousand customers.

The contact owns a 2020 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving 25 MPH, the vehicle shut off; however, the vehicle kept running for several more feet. The contact attempted to bring the vehicle to a stop. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the residence. While the vehicle was at the residence and turned off, the alarm sounded. The vehicle was then towed to a dealer, but it was not yet diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 77,000. The VIN was not available.

The 48V Belt Starter Generator failed on my 2020 Ram 1500 with the 5.7L eTorque system. It caused my truck to stall in the middle of a busy intersection at a red light. The battery drained fast, and I couldn’t move the truck out of the way. I was stuck in a dangerous spot cars were coming around a turn at 45–55 mph, and since my hazard lights started dying too, I had to get out in the rain and wave people away so they wouldn’t hit me. I was honestly afraid for my life. I ended up calling 911 and my insurance to get towed out of there. Before it happened, I saw a battery warning and something about the battery system. A mechanic and a dealer confirmed the issue was the 48V generator. I started calling around for the part, and every dealer I spoke with told me it’s on national backorder. One told me there were over 2,600 people already waiting for it, another said over 3,000 are on the list and no one has any idea when they’ll get them. There are a lot of people dealing with this, and it’s not just an inconvenience it’s dangerous. This part failing leaves people stranded in traffic, sometimes without power or lights. Something needs to be done. A recall would be the right thing.

1. Safety Issue 1: Cracked Exhaust Manifold & Exhaust Leak Description: Loud knocking noise on startup, strong exhaust fumes entering cabin. Dealer Diagnosis: Both exhaust manifolds cracked, multiple broken bolts. Risk: Potential carbon monoxide poisoning, engine damage, and fire hazard. Dealer Response: Refused repair, quoted $3,500. No assistance from Chrysler. Pattern Failure: Online forums show many owners with identical issues—clearly a manufacturing defect. 2. Safety Issue 2: Dashboard Delamination & Toxic Fumes Description: Dashboard surface peeling, strong chemical odor in cabin. Risk: Toxic off-gassing causes headaches/nausea; peeling material obstructs visibility. Pattern Failure: Widespread reports for this model/year—faulty adhesive is to blame. Manufacturer Negligence: Chrysler and dealerships are aware but refuse responsibility, blaming "wear and tear." Exhaust leaks and toxic interiors are unacceptable safety hazards—yet no recall exists. Request to NHTSA: Investigate these defects for potential recall. Force Chrysler to acknowledge and repair affected vehicles. Urgency: Driving this vehicle is a health risk. NHTSA must act before more are harmed.

The Alternator Generator (MGU) failed and I was driving on the road when it happened causing the electronics to start going dark one after the other then dark screen and lost power steering. Thank God I was close to the side of the road and rolled out of traffic's way. The truck was towed to the mechanic who confirmed it is the MGU. The problem is that this part is on back order with no ETA. So I have a 2020 RAM Laramie with 39,000 miles only sitting in the shop. If this happened on the highway, an accident would have been guaranteed. I was simply lucky.

Around 86,000 miles, a metallic like noise that one would associate with a worn bearing began within what i determine to be the E-torque MGU. Subtle at first, but you could tell something wasn't the same with the sounds you hear within the engine. Between then and my current 88,800 miles, the metallic sounds has gotten more aggressive, which is logical to assume that might happen if a bearing part is wearing down. Just today, 3/21/2025, an uncomfortable rattle sound and visible vibration of the MGU unit appeared suddenly, making me uncomfortable to drive the vehicle any further without immediate repair for fear of risking un-necessary damage to other critical engine componenets.

My 2020 Ram 1500 5.7L e-Torque started making a noise. I then received a "Battery" indicator Light, then received an "Engine" indicator light. I was losing voltage on my battery. The truck is now at the Dealership. The alternator has failed (87k miles). No one has the part. It's been on back order since November 2024. Online research indicates that over 3000 are on back order. I can't even place an order with Mopar (Genuine Ram Parts Supplier). I'm also told that the repair will be $2300 - seems like a lot for an alternator that you can't get that can be replace in about an hour.

Jan 27, 2025 Fire

The DPF got so hot in a matter of a few miles (8 minutes driving) it blew a hole in it, and melted all the wiring under the truck, caused the engine to stop, automatically locking all the doors (thank God my child and husband had stopped and were out) before this happened.

I noticed an oil leak under the truck a few weeks after getting the oil changed at the dealership. I took it back and had them investigate. They advised me I needed to replace the oil filter housing assembly, to the tune of $1,000. As I did research i found d this this is a widespread common problem and is known. Faulty design of a plastic part. For this to be such a common issue and poor design (that could cause catastrophic engone failure resulting in accidents or fires) and not to be recalled and or covered is insane. It's such a known issue that aftermarket parts makers have made a version that is all aluminum to prevent the issue. RAM should be paying for the repair, not me.

complete engine failure driving on hiway in 65mpr traffic.. it was a sudden total stop no power no control. after 30 sec. or so i pushed restart button stepped on gas, no error code was shown but restarted. we were almost rearended as busy traffic going that speed. this has happened twice before. after taken to a chrysler dealership on DEC.30 ,2024 and a diagnostic run they could find no issue so we were given no answer. they could not offer any other advice. this situation could be a lethal issue. we could have been in a horrible accident. we would appreciate anything you could do for us. we are affraid to drive this and only 50thousand miles on this truck, which we bought new. We are not mechanics and only can think this is a electrical failure. Please help us. we think another vehickle should be given us. This is a 2020 ECO diesel 30L engine 1500 Dodge Ram 4X4

Power Distribution Center/Relay box failure. Contacts in box melted for ASD Relay. Incident occurred while driving on the highway at 65mph. Vehicle without warning had power loss in accelerator, and started downshifting gears. Dash immediately said “park and restart required.” Attempting to start engine, vehicle would crank/no start. After several attempts, vehicle restarted and resumed normal driving until “park and restart required” happened again. After vehicle shut down multiple times on highway, I was able to make it home and diagnose problem. I checked the fuses and relays on the PDC and found ASD relay intact with no burn or scorch marks on contacts. However, the socket is missing contacts within the pdc. I reproduced said problem by moving the ASD relay with vehicle running. There are no warning lamps, messages, or codes to show any kind of failure.

While driving at highway speed (~65-70 mph), the engine shut off unexpectedly (without any warning/bucking). There were no errors displayed on the dashboard. Center screen stated to place vehicle in park before starting. The multimedia console, AC, all other electronic systems in the cab were operating as normal. The truck did not start back up for some time (10-15 mins). The dealer states that there were no codes present in the vehicle's onboard diagnostic system (OBD) that indicate any issues or that the vehicle stalled. This has happened 3 times in less than a month. The truck has about 76,000 miles. It is a 2020 Ram 1500 with 5.7L V8 HEMI MDS VVT eTorque Engine.

The manifold bolts on the Ram 1500 pickups will break causing the manifolds to leak. This happens around 50-60k in mileage.

Oct 30, 2024

Both exhaust manifolds are cracked. There is a bulletin on some 5.7 Hemi but not mine. Both have to be replaced. The vehicle is at Central Florida Chrysler Dodge Jeep in Orlando. The engine was making a ticking noise. Not sure where it was coming from.

Manifold leaking which could affect the components around possibly causing the engine to completely shut down. Is the the dodge dealership now. Apparently there are no recalls at this time. We do have an extended warranty on the vehicle thank goodness. All maintenance is up to date on this vehicle. The vehicle is at the dealership now and parts will not be in until October 24. It is not driveable at this time.

Oct 20, 2024

Driver and passenger manifolds Have cracked now 3 times on the passenger side and 1 time in the drivers side. Inhale had the last passenger side replaced under warranty and now they will not honor the warranty on the replaced manifold.

Upon purchase brand new in 2020 with in a week a cylinder had to be replaced. Since then this truck has been in the shop for almost a year in total over the past 2.5 years. The recalled high pressure fuel pump went out at around 60k miles, this incident almost resulted in a major accident in the middle of the night as the power loss to the engine and brakes left me free rolling down the road into a stop light 4 way. When sent for repairs they had to replace the pump 6-7 times before they could give it back to me as well as the entire fuel system. The check engine light came on as I drive off and they had to replace the pump and other parts for the 8th time and kept it for another month. A couple months later the alternator went out and battery shorted on the freeway. And after that repair a few months later the alternator flooded with oil on the freeway in the middle of nowhere and the trucks dash lit up with electrical failure and check engine lights. This time the truck was repaired in 3 weeks and after 100 miles the engine blew completely on the freeway, I never made it home with the truck. They’ve had the truck at the dealership for 2 months the now and are quoting for a complete engine replacement at 72k miles on the eco diesel engine. This truck is a faulty piece of machinery and should not have ever been on the road. They can’t run the teuck for any testing as the engine will run away at max rpm when started.

Component Failure: Around 45,000 miles, my vehicle equipped with the 5.7L HEMI E-torque V8 had both exhaust manifolds cracked with large exhaust leaks pre-catalytic convertor Safety Risk: My vehicle equipped with the 5.7L HEMI E-torque V8 was idling in a parking lot for around 1 hour while I waited inside the vehicle. Cold ambient temperature with windows up and heater on. I noted having a slight headache and started smelling what seemed to be pre-catalytic convertor exhaust fumes (rich fuel smell). I stepped out of the vehicle and smelled the exhaust at the rear of the vehicle, which did not match. I attributed the smell to a nearby vehicle. One week later, the same event occurred with no other vehicles parked around me. The exhaust leak was large enough to pull exhaust fumes into the cabin through the HVAC system. High risk of carbon monoxide poisoning if the vehicle was to sit long enough, risking both myself and my child's safety while we sat in the vehicle. Problem Reproduced: Yes, brought the vehicle CJDR dealer who diagnosed the vehicle with "both exhaust manifolds cracked" and replaced both exhaust manifolds under warranty. Has component been inspected: Unknown. Parts were removed from vehicle as covered under warranty at dealer and replaced with new parts. Any Warnings: No warning lights on dashboard or DTCs for catalytic convertor performance, lean/rich banks, or other exhaust/emissions related. Exhaust seemed slightly louder on cold start. Smelling of unburnt/pre-cat exhaust fumes that prompted dealer visit.

I have a 2020 Dodge Ram that has 75,000 miles on it. It has already broke down requiring a new transmission ( Jan of 2023 at 61,349 miles) and on [XXX] at 83,000 miles I, again, broke down and found it to be a valve spring. I have inquired as to the frequency of these occurrences in other Rams and a was told neither one of these occurrences should have happened. I jumped the hoops of the warranty and have put out almost $1,000 for the warranty company to "inspect" the engine, valve spring & tranny items that I should not have had to deal with in the first place. At first, the warranty company was willing to discuss possible retribution of some sort given the rarity of the break downs that occurred. I had a caseworker and now I cannot get anyone on the phone to even discuss this with any longer. Always being told "In a meeting", "Not available". With my last call being today and told SOMEONE was going to call. I have received emails noting "it is being investigated" and also told someone would reach out. NOW I have developed anxiety over this truck as, I travel. I'm terrified that I will be stuck in the middle of no where in the middle of the night. Both occurrences happened at night while alone! I am a [XXX]! Perhaps that's why ? I have been without a vehicle since that time and even the auto repair place had a very hard time in getting warranty company to pay. Truck is home now but now Im afraid to drive it anywhere. This was my dream truck and Im heartbroken at the total disrespect that has occurred for my safety and for anyone else who has had to go through this - I do have invoices but it wouldn't let me download them. I can send them via email. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The exhaust flange bolts are prematurely rusting and breaking on the Exhaust system. This is a truck that has less than 30,000 miles and less than 4 years old. This is a common problem but seems to me RAM is using sub par materials in there bolts and they are failing at an earlier than expected time. These parts should be good for at least 80,000 100,000 Miles. These parts should be covered and a recall should be issued for these bolts as they are failing and braking prematurely. Creating a safety hazard as if the exhaust flange bolts break the pipe would hit the ground and create a safety and or accident hazard.

Exhaust manifold bolts snapping at low milage causing exhaust to possibly leak into the cabin. Most people are getting manifolds resurfaced and replacing the bolt's. If you replace manifold with new, it will warp again and break bolts again. Apparently the manifolds were not “Stress Relieved” in the manufacturing process. Lots of people are complaining and Ram dealers are saying it happens a lot. Cost to fix is approx. $1,000.

Exhaust Manifolds have cracked twice on the right and once on the left side in the first 45K miles of the vehicles life. Both times replaced under warranty, there appears to be a design defect here that should be resolved. Leaking exhaust manifold in California will violate CARB emission standards.

Both exhaust manifolds cracked creating an exhaust allowing exhaust gases/fumes into the vehicles cabin causing an obvious safety issue. No warnings lights of any sort, the components were inspected by the dealership and confirmed that they were cracked. The start/stop feature on the truck has been malfunctioning and the light has repeatedly came on. The truck has stalled on me while driving on two different occasions. I was in the middle of driving on a busy road and also a highway and the truck stalled on me which could of caused any vehicle to the side of me, or behind me to hit my vehicle causing an accident especially when I have both my kids in the car. The dealer allegedly fixed the problem but clearly it is NOT fixed. The problem has been diagnosed by the dealer at their establishment. They say nothing shows the truck stalling in the computer but I have proof. The truck shook, the start/stop light came on along with the check engine light and then stalled out on me both times. I opened a case with ram care and they dont seem to be of any help nor is the dealer. The dealer refused both times to check the “e-torque” battery that controls the start/stop feature for any failures or malfunctions and gave the excuse that theirs nothing indicating its the battery yet that battery specifically controls that feature. Ram has also recalled 131k trucks and wranglers for stalling. Ive brought the truck to them 2 times this month alone and they refuse to check that battery which 2 other dealers said was the problem. I would of brought it to the other 2 dealers but ram care advised to bring it to the dealer where I purchased the truck from. This is seriously unreal and if something happens or my kids get hurt due to an accident this is gonna be a major lawsuit. I need your help.

Since the vehicle was purchased new in 2020, the check engine light has come on and the service throttle body message has been displayed 12 times. It only happens when I am towing a 5,500 pound travel trailer. When the anomalies happens, I loose engine power. Say I am traveling at 65 MPH. When the anomalies happens and the CEL and warning messages appear, my speed drops to 32 MPH. Most Interstate freeway systems have a 45 MPH lower limit. I am forced to quickly pull over to the emergency lane to avoid a crash situation. If I shut off the engine and restart it, my power comes back but the CEL is still on. The selling dealership has tried to fix this several times. The engine code that is always present is a P00AF (turbo boost control “A” module performance, I think over boost) and at one time a P0299 (turbo under boost). The latter occurred after I heard a loud “whoosh” . The turbo air hose blew off. So far the Dealer has flash programmed the engine control module, replace the turbo hose and lastly replaced the turbo itself. Not all of the anomalies have been documented by the dealer, as I am always traveling around the country when it happens and have called dealers in the city nearest me at the time and have gotten every excuse as to why they cannot look as it now. I am almost always able to resume my travels by shutting off and restarting the engine. When I arrive back home and take it in to be looked at, I’m told there is no codes and no history of a code. It can be several thousand miles after the anomalies when the dealer finally gets to look at it. FCA (Chrysler corp) is aware of the situation and has opened 4 cases for my concern. Case # 77583210 which they immediately closed, # 78338328, #79796818 and just on 06-9-2023 case # 86383024. The vehicle now has 21,726 miles on it and most of them are towing miles. The vehicle specifications state this vehicle can tow 12,000 lbs. I bought this vehicle for vacations and towing. THIS VEHICLE IS UNSAFE!

My vehicle is a 2020 Ram/1500 BIG HORN/LONESTAR (with 5.7L HEMI - V8) My VIN is - [XXX] The Engine system failed/malfunctioned while driving on the highway. (It is currently available for inspection upon request.) I will however be taking the vehicle in for an engine rebuild and reinstall on or around May 30th, 2023. My safety and the safety of others was put great risk when my engine sputtered and vehicle rapidly slowed down on the freeway, during rush hour traffic; nearly causing rear end collision. Check Engine warning lamp came on and started flashing at the time of the failure, this was first time it happened. My vehicle was diagnosed from a mechanic/technician at Milosch's Palace Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in Lake Orion, Michigan. The technician said that the engine failed due to issue with Cylinder #7 and will need to be replaced - at a cost of nearly $11,000. I did find a licensed repair facility that will do a complete engine removal, overhaul and rebuild including a 24 Month Warranty. According to the gentleman at the repair facility, this is a common issue, and they are on working rotation, repairing 12-15 HEMI Engines at any time due to this common failure. 5.7L HEMI Valve Train issues have been documented over and over; this is a known issue for many years. There have been several cases where HEMI engine owners have filed lawsuits against automobile manufacturer, alleging defects or performance issues with their engines. In some cases, these lawsuits have been successful in securing damages for the owners. I could provide you with some general examples. 2020 RAM 1500 HEMI Broken manifold bolts had fixed with 34,000 miles now the truck has 40,000 and DO NOT BOTHER CALLING MOPAR. they can care less. said i needed to take to dealer and then call back to see what they can do so I asked the rep how many ram owners have yall helped when they took the truck into a dealer for diagnostic out of warranty? No response- shocker there. I stated that mopar knows about this ongoing issue for years and will not do anything about it . Only to be told that I have to take the truck to a dealer. Where they want to charge a fortune. Something needs to be done about this.

Manifolds. This is an ongoing problem with ram owners. They blow at early mileage and progressively get worse until the fumes are in the cab. This can be extremely dangerous and could cause unconsciousness or even death if it’s bad enough. If someone where to become unconscious behind the wheel, it could put many people at danger.

November of 2022 I took my truck to the lithium dealership in Reno NV for an exhaust leak they reported back to me that they replaced the manifold passenger side. two weeks later exhaust leak returned they informed me that it was a lifter tick and there was no exhaust leak this was at 51,000 miles. The problem got worse I took it back to them twice with both times I'm telling me it was a lifter tick, but I could smell exhaust in the cab of the vehicle. Now that the truck is out of warranty it's 61,000 miles the exhaust leak got so bad I took it to a different dealership where they have found both exhaust manifolds were leaking and now that it's out of warranty the extended warranty has taken over. but with that said now I am without a car because the extended warranty does not cover loaner cars. the manifolds are both on national back order. the sad part about this is the lithium dealership said they replaced the exhaust manifold and they did not according to the Carson dodge dealership the manifolds were never changed. Apparently this is a known problem with these vehicles and the parts are on national back order. I just find it very disgusting that a dealership would kick the can down the road just so they didn't have to replace the exhaust manifolds or give me a rental car while my truck was sitting there so now I have my truck in the dealership with no ETA on when I'll get it back I'm having to rent a car on my own and still make a truck payments. Don't know if this is a common practice with Ram/Chrysler but this is a despicable way to do business. The second problem is the power steering assist stops working while I'm driving that is also at the dealership waiting for parts that are on national back order.

This occurred twice under normal operating conditions. Started to proceed when light turned green RPMs went to 6000 and the gas pedal became mush no power, had to put truck back in neutral and then drive. That fixed the problem. This also occurred why driving on highway at 70MPH,applied gas and the RPMS went to 6000 pedal became mush basically lost power then put in neutral then drive again and the problem was fixed.

I was driving my car west on Sunnyside Ave just before Se 132nd ave at approximately 40 MPH. My truck then abruptly turned off and I lost all power. I coasted safely into the left turn lane and kept the brake on. The truck was completely unresponsive to restarting and there was no function of the start button. There was power in the battery but the engine and dash computer were non functioning. The truck needed to be towed to the dealership where it is located currently at Ron Tonkin Dodge/ram/keep service center at 16800 SE McLoughlin Blvd, Milwaukie, OR 97267. Currently no diagnosis as of 1136 on Friday January 20th.

I was making a right turn after being stopped at a light and made it approximately 100 feet before the vehicle just shut off. I was able to steer to the side of the street, stop, and restart the vehicle. I didn’t hear or see anything abnormal but it all happened so far. The dealer is looking at it now (in the next 5-7 days). This is a real safety concern.

When accelerating from a stop the truck loses power and fails to respond. The engine is working but the transmission fails to engage and the truck just coasts until all-of-a-sudden it jerks back into motion. The vehicle will also lunge forward when coming to a stop as if the transmission catches and decides to accelerate momentarily. This is a serious safety issue when pulling out into traffic and has almost caused me to be involved in two accidents.

The Ram 1500 has a exhaust manifold leak, drives side. Loud noise at start up then quiets down after warming up. The repair parts are on a national backorder. I fear there is a possiblity of fire under the hood (25 years as a firefighter). The truck is parked waiting on a call from the dealer for parts.

Took truck into dealer for 15,000 mile service. Dealer installed software update covered by recall notice. Truck was running like Swiss watch when taken to dealer. Less than 200 miles after retaking possession and in the middle of nowhere, 2 plus miles North of Tonopah Nevada the engine quit leaving us stranded in 106 heat. Policeman took us back to Tonopah after seeing us stranded. Truck taken by flatbed trailer next day to dealer in Fernley, Nevada. It has now been 10 weeks and dealer has not been able to identify problem and get truck engine operating. RAM customer service has spewed nothing but platitudes and refused to buy back truck or render assistance to hard working dealer that will fix engine.

My truck randomly stalls. Sometimes from a stopping position, sometimes at slow speeds. I have taken it to the dealership and they keep saying they can not replicate the problem and they know nothing about this issue despite the fact if you google it, you will see forums full of people having the same issues and the dealerships giving them the same runaround. Today, I almost got broadsided because it completely died when I was pulling out. The other truck had to lock up their brakes and swerve to avoid hitting me in the drivers side which would have caused a major injury to myself. This truck is not safe to drive, yet the dealership keeps telling me their is nothing they can do and I am forced to continue to drive it. I know several people have reported this to your agency also, yet their still is no recall.

Feb 14, 2022

At a speed of 45mph, my truck completely shut down. No power on anything. I was able to pull off the road and come to a stop; power brakes and steering were not operable. Once stopped, the truck would not start. "Push to Start" indicator on dash did come on, but the brake pedal was stiff and the push to start button did nothing. Got out of the truck, exterior door lock button was inoperable and both key fobs did nothing. Had to have the vehicle towed.

Pushed accelerator after a stop sign, heard a pop and immediately lost power and the check engine light came on. Coasted to a parking lot nearby and parked. Discovered the transmission cooling line disconnected spontaneously causing a catastrophic failure. Transmission fluid exploded all over the engine manifold and underneath the vehicle. Smoking ensues. Extremely dangerous to me as I had to power to the vehicle. If traveling on an interstate going highway speeds likely would have been put a great risk personally and to other drivers. Problem confirmed at the dealership after towing. Thought the connection was not made secure at the factory. Only indication after failure of component.

Operating the vehicle at 35mph on a standard city street in Tucson, Az - River Rd. The vehicle flashes a system failure warning and then shuts off all power to the truck. This results in the transmission being thrown back into park and the driver having zero control over the vehicle. There are multiple online reports of this being fairly common on 2020/2021 Dodge Rams. The vehicle is being returned to the dealer, even if it is a minor issue it is a huge safety issue. I had zero control over the vehicle once the warning flashed. The abrupt loss of power and being thrown into a skid with no control is terrifying. Luckily there was no traffic. It is being returned and according to the dealership it will be investigated. Prior to that brief safety warning the truck had operated perfectly fine with no issues all day long with over 200miles logged for the day.

On September 14, 2021 I was leaving work, started truck and backed out of parking spot. I had drove off and upon making a left turn the truck went into a stall, screen flashed "place vehicle in park before starting" and then immediately came back on, I did not come to full stop or have to hit the "start" button. I continued driving and the issue has not happened since. The vehicle had over 1/2 tank of gas (89), temperature was in the 90's (Florida) and has no engine modifications. This was concerning for a new vehicle so I looked further into this and discovered that has been happening quite a bit with this particular version of this truck (eTorque). If the vehicle had fully stalled while pulling into traffic, it could be very dangerous. The most troubling aspect is that no engine code or warning light came on regarding the issue. I'm not sure how a late model vehicle with this amount of technology can almost stall and leave no details of what caused the problem and alert the driver.

Vehicle engine shuts off unexpectedly while in operation. Can happen in any condition: idling, accelerating, cruising or coasting. If at a slow speed (less than 5mph) vehicle activates emergency breaking then shifts itself into park. Can happen WITH or WITHOUT “Auto Start/Stop” being activated (fuel saver). When emergency breaking enacted, I’ve almost been rear-ended by trailing car. This issue has been reported on driver forums.

VEHICLE HAS CONSISTENT THROTTLE INPUT RESPONSE LAG. WHEN APPLYING THROTTLE FROM A STANDSTILL THERE IS A 1 TO 1.5 SECOND LAG BEFORE THE ENGINE REVS. THE SAME LAG OCCURS WHEN BUT CAN LAST UP TO 3 SECONDS WHEN ATTEMPTING TO INCREASE ACCELERATION FROM ANY GIVEN ROLLING SPEED. THIS IS INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS AS IT MAKES THE SIMPLE AND FREQUENT CHALLENGE OF CROSSING AN INTERSECTION AND/OR OVERCOMING SLOWER TRAFFIC IMPOSSIBLY DIFFICULT TO ACCOMPLISH SAFELY AND WITHOUT DRAMA/STRESS. DELAYS IN RESPONSE CAUSE THE DRIVERS TO SECOND GUESS THEIR DECISIONS AND ACTIONS. THE RESULT WILL EITHER BE TO LIFT OFF OF THE THROTTLE (AT WHICH POINT THE VEHICLE MAY DECIDE TO ACCELERATE PARTIALLY) OR TO TAKE THEIR EYES OFF OF THE ROAD/TRAFFIC AND CHECK THE INSTRUMENT PANEL (AT WHICH POINT THE VEHICLE MAY THEN DECIDE TO ACCELERATE). IF THERE IS ONCOMING TRAFFIC, PEDESTRIANS OR OTHER OBSTACLES, THIS CAN RESULT IN A MAJOR ACCIDENT, INJURY AND/OR DEATH.

ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS IN THE PAST WEEK, THE THROTTLE PEDAL IN THIS GEN 3 ECODIESEL ENGINE HAS FAILED TO RESPOND UPON PRESSING IT TO MAKE A TURN AFTER DRIVING THE TRUCK FOR A FEW MINUTES.
