My 2023 Ram 1500 TRX has recurring safety-related failures of the infotainment system affecting both Uconnect 5 (12” screen) and earlier Uconnect 4 units. These issues are widespread in 2021–2024 Ram TRX and Ram 1500 models and began for my truck after forced over-the-air updates. The primary defect is black-screen failures while driving. When the screen goes black or freezes, the truck loses all functions controlled through the display, including HVAC/defrost, backup camera, vehicle settings, seat controls, and performance gauges. This creates an immediate safety hazard: I cannot adjust climate/defrost, cannot see the required rear-view camera when shifting to reverse, and cannot access key vehicle information. In my TRX I have experienced screen freezing, inability to access the rear view camera, audio skipping issues, and various pages missing that were previously available. This is not an isolated incident related to my truck as I have seen reports of many other owners sharing issues that started after OTA updates including: • Black screens, freezes, and reboots • Loss of HVAC control and dual-zone functions • Backup camera not displaying • Vehicle/Apps tabs failing to open • Uconnect error messages • Smaller, harder-to-read gauges after updates • Wireless CarPlay/Android Auto failures • No option to decline or roll back OTA updates These failures distract the driver, remove access to federally required equipment (rear camera), and eliminate visibility and climate controls that directly affect safe operation. The system becomes unpredictable and unstable despite the vehicle being in motion. Because this affects essential safety-related controls and visibility, I believe this is a safety defect in Ram/Stellantis Uconnect 4 and Uconnect 5 systems. I request NHTSA open a defect investigation and require Ram to correct these failures.

While driving, the vehicle experienced a sudden loss of electrical voltage. Multiple warning messages appeared, and several vehicle systems disabled while the vehicle was in motion. Power and safety features malfunctioned, and the parking brake engaged unexpectedly. The vehicle became unsafe to operate while driving. The failure required towing and a battery replacement to restore drivability. The battery failure occurred as part of an active charging system malfunction, not a no-start condition. This event created a serious safety risk to the driver and others on the roadway due to loss of vehicle control and disabled safety systems

The contact owns a 2023 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 6 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power, and the parking brake unexpectedly engaged. The contact manually disengaged the parking brake. The contact was able to restart the vehicle; however, a message to “Shift to Park” was displayed, and the low-battery and low-voltage warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that the failure persisted after restarting the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but was not diagnosed. The mechanic informed the contact that the battery had not failed but that the vehicle was experiencing voltage errors. The contact was informed that the battery did not need to be replaced, and no repairs were performed. The vehicle was then taken to a dealer, but was not diagnosed; however, the dealer retrieved DTC: P032F. The dealer informed the contact that the failure could not be duplicated, but advised the contact that the battery was failing. The exact cause of the battery failure could not be determined. The dealer replaced the battery. The vehicle was later taken to another dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact was informed that the failure could not be duplicated and that the cause of the battery failure could not be identified. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 7,000.

Ram released a software update to the Uconnect system, and it has disabled navigation, drive mode, and rear camera. This has been nonfunctional now since April so about eight months and they are saying they’re not releasing any new software updates at this time to fix it. I’ve taken it to the dealer and they also cannot fix until there’s a software update from RAM.

My 2023 Ram 1500 TRX has recurring safety-related failures of the infotainment system affecting the Uconnect 5 (12” screen). These issues are widespread in 2021–2024 Ram TRX and Ram 1500 models and began or worsened after forced over-the-air updates. The primary defect is black-screen failures while driving and loud screeching noises coming from the radio. The loud screeching noise causes you to immediately pull the vehicle over to turn off the truck or manually reset the radio. Owners across multiple years consistently report: • Black screens, freezes, and reboots • Loss of HVAC control and dual-zone functions • Backup camera not displaying • Vehicle/Apps tabs failing to open • Uconnect error messages • Smaller, harder-to-read gauges after updates • Wireless CarPlay/Android Auto failures • No option to decline or roll back OTA updates These failures distract the driver, remove access to federally required equipment (rear camera), and eliminate visibility and climate controls that directly affect safe operation. On approximately September 2024, after a few months of purchasing my vehicle new, the manufacturer installed battery died. This required me to jump it every time I needed to start it over the course of a week. A local dealership replaced it under warranty, though I noticed when I was driving the parasitic drain on the battery would continue. This repair was done through the Berlin City CDJR dealership located in Gorham, New Hampshire. I suspect if I drove long enough, critical systems would not function correctly while driving due to the battery dying. Today, I noticed the same issue arising. The battery died again, presumably from the same parasitic drain, and voltage was sitting around 10 amps. I would approximate that, over the past six months, the hybrid system has not been functioning as normal when I first purchased the vehicle. The trucks display notes why/when auto/start stop doesnt work. Over the past few months it displays that the battery is charging so auto/stop start is disabled, no matter how far/long I drive. It’s concerning to think what may happen if the hybrid system connected to the truck dies. The first time the regular battery died the display noted low voltage. For this most recent incident, it did not.

Nov 12, 2025

As I was driving, my battery light ignited the voltage on my battery continuously went down. I stopped at a stop sign. The engine shut off car completely stopped. Lights were working on dashboard and display screen, but vehicle would not start jumped vehicle as soon as cables were taken off vehicle battery went dead again then all of a sudden it started up again but something is still not right.

Oct 23, 2025

The electrical and battery system on my 2023 Ram 1500 Big Horn has repeatedly malfunctioned, causing a severe parasitic battery drain that leaves the vehicle completely inoperable. The problem began in Fall 2024 and has been reproduced and confirmed by the dealer multiple times. Despite numerous repair attempts, the underlying issue has not been resolved. The truck has been at the dealership continuously since October 2024, and technicians have been unable to determine or fix the root cause. The vehicle experiences total battery failure within hours or days of sitting idle, even after multiple new batteries and modules were installed. The faulty electrical component/system is available for inspection at the dealership. This ongoing electrical drain presents a serious safety risk, as the truck can lose all power unpredictably, preventing it from starting or responding to electronic controls. Before complete failure, the truck would display warning lights, low-voltage messages, and random electrical faults, including systems shutting off unexpectedly. The issue has been inspected and documented by the dealership under an open case with Ram Customer Care, yet no resolution has been achieved. I have been without my vehicle for nearly five months, and the same problem has persisted for almost a year.

Oct 22, 2025

I have taken my truck in to the dealership twice already for the same issue and they are telling me they cannot find the issue. My truck would not start, so I replaced the battery. Noticed that the voltage would drop after driving it about 20 miles or so. Normal range is 13.5V. Starting the truck, it starts out at 13.5V but after about 20 miles or so, the voltage would drop to 12.5V. Dealership could not find out why. Engine light is not on but the voltage drops every single time I drive. I bought it with 11 miles on it in June of 2023 and didn't have this issue until September of 2025. The truck only had about 37,400 miles on it when it started messing up. I am scared/worried that the truck will just stop while driving. I have read many forums and stories about many others are having this issue too. The Motor Generator Unit (MGU) malfunctioning. There are recalls for 2019-2022 MGU but not for 2023 or later.

Sep 22, 2025

I have been trying to get the turn signal recall fixed on my truck for the past year. After I make a left turn, the turn signal only turns off about 1/2 of the time. The first 4 times I spoke to them both in person and over the phone, they said they were waiting on the part. When I spoke to them last week, the parts guy said he had the part, but I would have to pay for it since the system showed the recall had been fixed. No one has ever even worked on the turn signal, other than to test it, which was at the end of 2024.

The contact owns a 2023 Ram 1500. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle and shifting into reverse(R), the rear-view camera failed to display an image. Additionally, the contact stated that the instrument cluster failed to display pertinent information. The contact stated that occasionally, only the A/C and heating controls and a section of the GPS map were displayed. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the dealer requested that the vehicle be left for three days for additional diagnostic tests. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 17,000.

experienced the exact same failure mode as Ram Recall 24V-729 and my truck and model year fall into the affected vehicle models however my VIN # was not included in the recall. My blinkers do not work as exactly described in 24V-729 and Ram refuses to take financial responsibility of this known issue and make me pay for this safety concern especially when its a known safety recall this year and model truck.

Jun 30, 2025

Driving down the freeway, with no previous issues at 80MPH. Next thing the truck stalls and won't restart. Vehicle jumped and runs when connected stops immediately once unjumped. Replaced battery at 51,000 miles and vehicle runs fine. Concern is the alternator is not strong enough to power the vehicle if the battery dies for mysterious reasons.

Jun 16, 2025

The Connected Services system in my 2023 Ram TRX regularly displays large, full-screen alerts for emergency vehicles, tow trucks, and lane closures — often when there is no actual hazard present. These alerts are extremely distracting and dangerous. They: Block the entire screen, hiding navigation, camera, and HVAC controls and leaving the screen black until the user interacts with it multiple times to put it back on navigation. Require multiple presses to clear, forcing interaction while driving. Often reactivate within seconds, creating a loop of screen interference. Have triggered during merging, construction zones, heavy traffic, and when passing emergency vehicles or tow trucks, where focus is critical and lives are at risk. Occur falsely 80%+ of the time — no hazard is nearby. Cannot be disabled, according to Stellantis. These alerts violate basic safety interface principles by forcing unnecessary, repeated interaction in active driving conditions, forcing distracted driving. The system is overly aggressive, not user-configurable, and poses a significant distraction risk. Numerous owners on Ram forums have reported similar experiences, including repeated false triggers in the same areas. I am requesting NHTSA investigate this system. Stellantis should be required to: Offer a toggle to disable or limit alert pop-ups. Redesign the alerts to be non-obstructive and passive, or limit them to actual verified hazards. Until addressed, this is a serious safety issue affecting many drivers. I have video evidence of the issue occurring that I can provide.

Tailgate unlatched one its own when I was backing up. It dropped and struck another vehicles bumper. Tailgate is smashed now. I was watching the back up camera and the tailgate was closed. It electronically opened itself and dropped down with me doing anything.

I have a 2023 Dodge Ram 1500 with a 12” Uconnect/ infotainment/ telematics system. The system only works for a minute possibly 2 minutes if I am lucky. The whole system shuts off which takes away my bluetooth capabilities, backup camera, all sound systems. My ability to access all safety features on my vehicle. For the not so safety problems, the heat and cooling is just a guessing game. I have no access to use the heated seat or steering wheel features in a brand new vehicle (I lived where it gets -40 degrees fahrenheit when I got this truck.) It also does not allow my cluster gauge to show time, or temperature. This truck has been in and out of the dealership to be worked on for this specific problem more than 3 times. They have replaced the whole system 4 times and replaced a ton of other parts and pieces, and running many diagnostics on it. It has now been at the dealership for over 30 days with no success.

The screen was replaced twice still doesnt work. Suspension was replaced twice

Apr 5, 2025

3 times in the last month, my 2023 Ram with only 25000 miles has stalled while I have been driving. The situation was I was in a line of traffic and rolling forward at approximately 5-10 miles per hour when the truck died, auto shifted into park and set the emergency brake. I then immediately hit the start button again and got a low battery voltage warning. I turned the car completely off and on again, then was able to move and continue with the flow of traffic with no faults. I took the truck to the dealership to have it diagnosed and they found that the truck logged a code P032F, which is associated with vehicles stalling. However, they stated they were unable to replicate it and there wasn't a fix currently available. I have also not been able to replicate it and it seems to happen completely at random. My safety and the safety of others was definitely a factor as I was stranded in traffic without the ability to move my vehicle. If I had not responded quickly, it could have caused an accident. Prior to this there were no symptoms of failure, and the truck drives completely normal until the event occurs.

The vehicle has always had an issue with turn signal canceling the left hand turn probably fails 30/40% of the time. There was a recall on this but requires a diagnostic to be performed. This has been completed twice and didn’t fail, but service writer and tech both witnessed it not working during driving test. Problem is StarParts won’t send parts to dealer because it passes their diagnostic. After complaints to dealer now StarParts wants to run test a third time the dealer and I agree the outcome will be the same. I sent email to StarParts regional manager (Benton Kuchefskil) twice and he refuses to respond. Basically the issue is they confirm it does not function properly but they won’t repair it because it passes their diagnostics. I have been trying to get this repaired since December

The contact owns a 2023 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at 45 MPH, the check engine warning light illuminated, followed immediately by the battery warning light. The contact stated that the instrument panel illuminated and the message "Low Voltage 11.3V" was displayed. The contact drove the vehicle to an independent mechanic and was instructed to return home and immediately call the manufacturer for assistance. The manufacturer was notified of the issue, and a local dealer was notified. The contact was informed to tow the vehicle to the dealer. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and the contact was informed that the alternator had failed and needed to be replaced. The contact was later informed that the part needed to repair the vehicle was on backorder. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and suggested a reimbursement for a rental vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 14,818.

When stopped at a red light, vehicle shut off and emergency parking brake engaged. Safety was not necessarily put at risk but other cars had to pass me as I tried to figure out the issue. Dealer cannot reproduce the issue as it's happened only twice in one year. The only warning that came on the instrument cluster was "parking brake engaged".

Dec 16, 2024

While coming to a stop, the truck died and immediately set the emergency brakes. I was stopped about 300ft. from stop sign with cars stopped behind me. With the cars behind me honking, I waved them around. Released the brake and restarted the truck. Took the truck to the dealer and they could not reproduce the incident, and it threw no codes. This could be a huge safety concern if it were to happen in traffic.

Dec 2, 2024

I was approaching a 4 way stop when the engine lost power and shutoff. The vehicle auto shifted to park before i was able to come to a complete stop and the steering wheel locked up. I was the only passenger, all doors were closed and i was the only vehicle at the intersection. I was able to powerback on and continue on my way, but i have lost all trust in the vehicle and will be taking it in to the dealership tomorrow morning.

Nov 25, 2024

On 19 November 2024, immediately after dealer performed an oil change and accomplished recall 24V-653 and 24V729, on drive home vehicle engine shut off at a red light as normal (auto start/stop), but did not auto re-start. Had to power cycle in order to move truck. On 20 November 2024, vehicle engine shut off at a red light as normal (auto start/stop), but this time the SafeHold system engaged the parking brake and shifted the truck into park. The parking brake warning lamp illuminated. Truck would not move until the SafeHold system was manually bypassed. Surrounding traffic became impatient and took unnecessary risks to go around my truck that would not move. Immediately took truck to dealer for diagnosis and repair. On 22 November 2024, picked up truck from dealer with problem not repeatable, no repair performed. On 24 November 2024, exact same problem happened (vehicle engine shut off at a red light as normal (auto start/stop), SafeHold system engaged the parking brake and shifted the truck into park. The parking brake warning lamp illuminated. Truck would not move until the SafeHold system was manually bypassed). Surrounding traffic became impatient and took unnecessary risks to go around my truck that would not move

Nov 4, 2024

When I was driving on a very busy road, the emergency/ parking brake immediately turned on while the truck was returning back in motion, which made the car come to a complete stop. I had to manually turn off the parking brake, even though I was not the one to turn it on in the first place. This could have put the people behind me in serious danger, as they could have hit me and then been seriously injured. The problem was brought to the attention of the manufacturer, and they had just asked me if I had turned on the brake with my knee. After being met with an apology, I was asked to bring the truck into the servicer the following morning. There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and they only appeared after this had happened.

Aug 13, 2024

I was in downtown Atlanta traffic, moving around 10 miles per hour. The truck suddenly shut off and applied the parking brake. Once restarted the battery light was displayed on the dash. This has happened approximately 10-12 times in the last year. I was lucky this one did not result in an accident. Please help in getting Ram to realize there is a problem. Thank you!

Jul 28, 2024 Crash

Check engine light blinks on and off intermittently, vehicle shakes and feels as if it’s going to stall. From time to time when going to accelerate I pulled out on a main roads and the vehicle lost all power my kids and I flew forward. While idling at a red light, the vehicle started to shake as if it was going to stall and jerked forward and hit the car in front of me. I brought this to the attention of the dealer. I purchased it from and They stated they cannot find any issues. I have pictures and videos of the check engine light coming on in intermittently. I also called when it lost power, pulling into the intersection. This all should be recorded with Jerry Ulm dealer in Tampa.

Jul 26, 2024

Vehicle loses power, then shifts to park and applies the parking brake. This has happened several times in different driving scenarios. Once this happens, the battery fault light appears on the dashboard.

Jul 23, 2024

The contact owns a 2023 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving 55 MPH on the highway, the "Push to Start" message was displayed on the instrument panel. The contact stated that the Forward Collision Avoidance: Automatic Emergency Braking warning light illuminated, and the vehicle lost motive power and stalled. The vehicle was not drivable and was towed to a dealer. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle with fuel pump and fuel pump regulator failure. The fuel pump was replaced. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 7,900.

Mileage: 7,900

Jul 22, 2024

The contact owns a 2023 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while attempting to proceed from a RED traffic light, while driving approximately 4 MPH, the automatic parking brake engaged, and the vehicle stalled. The low voltage warning light was illuminated. Due to the failure, the vehicle was towed to the dealer. The contact stated that the dealer failed to provide a diagnostic result for the failure. The contact stated that almost a year later the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 13,000.

Jul 22, 2024

Electrical system stops charging, and stalls out the whole truck causing the truck to die in the middle of road and shift into park.

Jul 22, 2024

Four times the truck has powered down while driving - all were when slowing to turn. No prior warning lights or out-of-spec conditions - battery level reading normal prior to shutdown. Truck shut down the engine automatically. Restarting the truck prompted the battery light but no check-engine light. Emergency brake auto-deployed, stopping the car. In all cases I was stopped in traffic (most recently while crossing a highway), but no accidents. Truck is currently at dealership for diagnostics - preliminary code investigation appears related to the auto-start system causing the engine to shut down. Per dealer, they require input from RAM engineering.

Jun 13, 2024

Truck stalls and immediately goes into park and throwing trucks parking brake on. While driving on the road and in traffic.

Jun 4, 2024

Left turn signal does not disengage. Brights flash randomly.

May 17, 2024

Truck stalled suddenly, indicating a flashing message of electrical error of stability assistant. Truck restarted with a yellow engine light on, but would not allow dial to shift into drive. Automatic correct transmission would pull it back into park. Turned engine on and off several times. Once responsive to Drive option, attempted to leave congested traffic area. Moving for 5 minutes now at 35 mph with emergency lights, Truck stalls again. Engine can be restarted but will not hold in Drive. RAM 1500 is new, owned for 4 weeks now.

Mar 23, 2024

While driving and slowing for a traffic light, my 2023 Ram 1500 Limited 4X4 began to immediately slow, and I observed the gear selector engage from drive to park, back to drive and back to park, and engaging the emergency brake. The vehicle ceased operating. I was able to engage the emergency flashers and restart the vehicle. All of this occurred while in traffic. This is the second occurrence. The vehicle has approximately 4000 miles. The first time this occurred I took the vehicle to the dealer. They dealer indicated there was no codes found indicating any trouble of this sort. It was unloaded and driven one mile to a parking lot, parked, and turned off. After skiing the keys were not found so the truck could not be started and five passengers were stranded in Vail. Eventually the keys were found on the kitchen counter in Eagle. The vehicle ran over 25 miles without the key or warning that the key was not in the truck. Had this been a wilderness snowshoe trip without cell coverage, the results could have been deadly. It was a rental vehicle and the products [XXX] and [XXX] drive do not allow driving without the key. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

There is a loud humming/tumbling sound when decelerating at lower roms. It is very loud, obnoxious, and distracting. It was so loud that I couldn’t hear an emergency vehicle coming up behind me to get over. I have found 100’s of complaints on forums with the same issue with the 5th gen rams. Regional mechanic said it is normal operating for the vehicle, dealership mechanic said this is not normal.

Incident #1: July 29 2023 Truck was purchased at 16 miles on the odometer and approximately at 160 miles the check engine light came on. The truck was coming to a stop when in sputtered, and the check engine light came on a few seconds after. The truck was drivable and was driven a few miles to my home. The truck was driven a few days later and the electrons on the truck such as the radio started to turn off, followed by a battery warning. I went to pull the truck over immediately as the engine was sputtering. I attempted a jump start of the truck and it ran for a few minutes then shut off. The truck battery was charged and put on a tow truck and sent to the dealership. They replaced the MGU "Motor Generator Unit" after which the issue appeared to have been resolved. The battery charge read between 13.8 - 14.2v and right in the middle of the battery charge indicator. Incident #2 August 15th 2023 The truck was parked at the Reno Airport, and when my flight was canceled, I decided to instead drive to San Francisco. The truck was parked in the sun for about 4 hours before it was driven again. I started driving and a few minutes later, was coming to a red light, started to apply the brakes, there was the same feeling of engine stalling when coming to a stop. The engine didn't stall, and no Check Engine light illuminated. I started the 25 mile uphill drive from Reno to Truckee, and noticed that the battery charge was slowly dropping down to 13v, then 12.8v, then to 12.7v when I got to Truckee. I pulled the truck over, restarted it and the voltage slowly climbed up to 13v and I resumed the drive. I started the climb to the Donner summit over i-80, and noticed the battery charge indicator dropping slowly. Approximately 65 miles later then charge was reading 12.4v and the low battery indicator light came on. I pulled the truck over to avoid it from stalling out like it did during the first incident.

Accelerating from a stop, turning hard right, engine shut off without warning. Vehicle steering seemed unaffected, emergency brake engaged without warning, dash read “apply brake and push start button”- the standard start up message upon entering when parked and engine off. No other indicator lights. Vehicle restarted by applying break and pushing start button. Vehicle lurched mildly when starting engine. Happened approximately 1435, temp around 95 F, daily driver vehicle, driven that am without issue. The remainder of the 10 minute drive, the battery indicator light would come on with a chime. Indicator would remain on around 10-20 seconds and turn off. Battery warning light came off and on at least 8 times within 10 minutes. Vehicle ran without issue aside from battery warning light. Parked for 9 hours and drove home without incident or warning lights.
