Check engine light came on end of November 2025 and stayed on. Immediately I took the truck to two different independent mechanics. They both said it was a problem with the turbocharger but I never received a recall regarding this. They both said I could still drive it and that it would not leave me stranded. The last recall done was the 67A a year ago. There are currently no recalls for my particular vehicle through the NHTSA. The truck is currently having the very expensive turbocharger replaced by one of the independent mechanics. Why wasn't I alerted to this problem?
The contact owns a 2014 Ram 2500. The contact stated while driving 45 MPH, the vehicle started to jerk, slipped into neutral, with the RPM being raised abnormally. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact pulled over to the side of the road and continued driving the vehicle very slowly. The vehicle was taken to a local AutoZone to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that 5th and 6th gears were in incorrect gear ratio. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 177,038.

I was contacted to complete a recall on my truck, (67A), which I had performed by the local dealer. The recall notice also said "If you have already experienced this condition and previously paid for a repair, you may be eligible to receive a reimbursement." I spoke to an individual and followed the instructions to submit a claim. With no response, I tried to get a status; to confirm proper items were received electronically. I was told, they were received and the claim was denied? No reason or justification. I tried many times and was disconnected after asking to speak with a manager/supervisor.
I recently received a letter in the mail from FCA US LLC, about an emissions recall (Emissions Recall VB6 or 67A) on this 2014 ram. The recall covered many emissions components including the diesel exhaust fluid components. The recall letter also said that if I had replaced or repaired any of these components in the past, I may be eligible for a reimbursement. I had previously had to replace my Diesel Exhaust Fluid Pump back in 2021 and turned in the receipt for the work, but the claim has been denied. I just wanted to reach out to see if there was anything that done to help possibly get the reimbursement.
Upon starting the trucks engine, putting the transmission in gear (either Reverse or Drive), at idle engine speed (approx 700-800 rpm) or very low (near idle speed) the trucks engine starts to surge from idle then drops down to 500 rpms with a voltage drop (5V) too. It will do this a couple of times and then the trucks engine dies (engine stops) while in gear and no codes are shown on the CEL or saved in the vehicle control module. When I put the transmission in Park, the trucks engine restarts without a problem. But when I go to Drive or Reverse gear it then will do it again. The truck sounds like the engine brake is being applied causing the engine to lug/bog down. The torque converter has been inspected and replaced. The fuel pump/lifter has been replaced. The batteries have been replaced. The fuel filters have been serviced; the crank case breather has been serviced. The emissions controls equipment (EGR valve) have been serviced/cleaned. Knowing that my trucks engine can cut out/die at anytime at low rpms, poses a safety hazard. Knowing that the truck can do this without a code being throw feels unsafe.
After the vehicle sits at night and then started in the morning the engine has a ticking sound. ( cold start ticking) Then when I was on the hiway the vehicles motor locked up.
RAM has Turbocharger/actuator high failure rate. I have had 2 turbo failures in under 80,000 miles. When I lost the turbo I loose the exhaust brakes. This is very dangerous when towing and coming down a mountain road. This could lead to vehicle damage and loss of life. IN FACT: RAM on the 2015 model year only, issued a warranty extension for Turbo failures. This is serious safety concern due to NO exhaust brakes or no acceleration when needed to avoid a collision.
There is a ticking noise from the 6.4L Hemi that is in this truck. I took it into the dealer and I was told that it was normal. Recently The ticking got so loud that it sounds like the lifters or a rod that will shoot through the engine compartment and injure or kill someone.
Ecm needs updated
on the 6.7L cummins diesel engines, as part of the cold start system, there is a bolt in the intake plenum that can come loose and eventually break off getting sucked into the #6 cylinder. when this happens, there will be catastrophic failure of the engine. This boltis barely visible looking from the top driver side of engine, a sure sign of this problem is the preheater wire connected to the intake plenum will seem loose and you can wiggle it. This is not repairable from the exterior of plenum and must be torn down for repair or replacement. If this problem is not noticed, eventual total failure of the diesel engine will happen, not maybe, but will potentially destroy the engine. numerous reports in the repair field have identified this problem and it needs to be addressed ASAP .... respectfully request that RAM/Cummins be contacted and at a minimum, a TSB be initiated so RAM owners can have this area inspected before total failure occurs
The heater in my pickup was not working correctly on the driver's side, so I took it into a shop to have the engine coolant flushed ($150). Within a few weeks, I had a check engine light appear and discovered the thermostat had failed ($350). I had this replaced. Still no heat. It was discovered that my heater core was plugged, could not be flushed, and the sediment from the coolant breaking down caused the failure in the thermostat, the heater core, and had plugged the EGR cooler ($3459 repair). Eide Chrysler informed me they had had a number of these issues occur this winter alone on Ram trucks from this vintage and mentioned Chrysler had changed coolant beginning with Ram model year 2013, and that said coolant was routinely failing between 60-100K miles. Chrysler stated they would not stand behind the repairs since the original warranty had expired. I am the original owner of this pickup, keep it in a heated garage, very seldom tow, and I follow the maintenance schedules. Chrysler's own maintenance schedule states the coolant should be flushed at the earlier of 10 years or 150,000 miles. This truck is 8 years old with 93,000 miles on it. While towing a moderately loaded trailer, the cooling fan on the engine turned on. It appears the fan shroud got sucked into the fan causing pieces of the shroud to get thrown into the radiator, which in turn destroyed the radiator and leaked all the coolant onto the ground. A quick google search shows this seems to be an extremely common issue with these trucks. It seems that the design of the shroud is poor and should be remedied by the manufacturer. With such a sudden failure this left me stranded just over the top of a hill in the middle of the road with no safe place to pull over, creating a serious hazard.
THE ENGINE HAS A EXHAUST LEAK AT THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD. AFTER A FEW MINUTES THE LEAK WILL STOP. YOU SHUT OFF THE TRUCK EVEN FOR A FEW MINUTES THEN START IT AGAIN THE LEAK COMES BACK. IT LEAKS EXHAUST INTO THE CAB WHEN IT IS LEAKING. I TOOK MY TRUCK TO MY LOCAL DEALER THEY GAVE A ESTIMATE FOR REPAIRS($610.00) THE DEALER TOLLED MY THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM. I CALL CHRYSLER CUSTOMER CENTER THEY TOLLED ME THAT THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO TO HELP ME. CAN YOU PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS THANK YOU

THE CONTACT HAD TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO NORTHWEST JEEP CHRYSLER DODGE RAM (10600 SW CANYON RD, BEAVERTON, OR 97005) ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS WHERE THE TRANSMISSION MOUNT AND TRANSMISSION WERE REPLACED. DESPITE THE REPAIRS, THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND REMAINED IN THE POSSESSION OF THE DEALER. WELL THE RESPONSE I'M GETTING FROM THEM IS THAT IT IS THE VGT TURBO ACTUATOR FAILING. AND UPON DOING RESEARCH FOR THIS PART FAILING IN OTHER PEOPLE'S CUMMINS 6.7 ENGINES, IT'S VERY COMMON AT OR BELOW 100K. IF THIS PART OF THE ENGINE IS THIS BIG OF A FAIL POINT OF THE TURBO IT SHOULD BE RECALLED AND FIXED SO THESE TURBOS HAVE A MUCH LONGER LIFE

STARTED UP MY TRUCK TO GO TO TOWN, ENGINE CAME ON ABOUT 5 MIN IN THE DRIVE SO I TOOK IT STRAIGHT TO O'REILLYS WHERE THEY DID THE SCAN AND THE COMPUTER SAID MISFIRE IN CYLINDER 3. SO WE CHANGED THE SPARK PLUGS AND TOOK IT BACK TO RESET THE LIGHT, STARTED IT BACK UP AND LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN WITH SAME EXPLANATION. SO WE PARKED THE VEHICLE UNTIL WE COULD FIND WHAT WAS GOING ON, TALKED TO A MECHANIC AND HE SAID PROBABLY THE CAM/LIFTER PROBLEM, HE LOOKED AT THE VEHICLE SEEN I HAD A DROPPED VALVE SEAT(VERY ODD FOR JUST STARTING UP A VEHICLE) SO WE CALLED DODGE AND THEY INSISTED THEY HAD TO DIAGNOSIS IT SO WE PAID A TOWING COMPANY TO HAUL IT TO THEM. DODGE CALLED ME BACK AND SAID DROPPED VALVE SEAT BUT ALSO CAM/LIFTERS NEED REPLACED. I DONT SEE HOW DODGE CAN JUST SAY IT'S ON YOU TO FIX WITH THIS MANY VEHICLE OWNERS ALL HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS IS EXPENSIVE FIXES BUT NOT ONLY THAT I HAVE A TRUCK WITH A LOAN PAYMENT THAT I CANNOT DRIVE TILL IT'S FIXED.

TRUCKS COOLANT OVERHEATED,LOST STEERING/BRAKES WHILE TRAVELING ON INTERSTATE HIGHWAY. DROVE FOR ABOUT 17 MILES AND PARKED AT A STORE. WITHIN 5 MINUTES OF PARKING THE TRUCK, WHITE SMOKE COULD BE SEEN COMING FROM THE HOOD ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. AS I APPROACHED THE TRUCK FLAMES CAME OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD IN THE SAME AREA. GRABBED A FIRE EXTINGUISHER AND RETURNED WITHIN ONE MINUTE TO FIND ENTIRE ENGINE COMPARTMENT IN FLAMES. UNABLE TO OPEN THE HOOD SO THE FIRE EXTINGUISHER WAS NOT MUCH GOOD. FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED WITHIN 5 MINUTES BUT IT WAS TOO LATE. INSURANCE COMPANY TOOK POSSESSION OF THE TRUCK AND TOTALED IT. UNKNOWN IF IT WAS EVER DETERMINED WHAT CAUSED THE FIRE. *BF UPDATED 7/26/18*JB

WE HAD A WATER PUMP FAILURE WHERE THE WATER PUMP FROZE UP AND BROKE THE SERPENTINE BELT AT EXIT 234 ON I-15 IN MONTANA. IT WAS A FRIDAY RIGHT AFTER LUNCH AND WE WERE TOWING OUR 5TH WHEEL TRAILER. THE DEALER IN HELENA COULDN'T PROVIDE SERVICE SO WE WERE TOWED TO A INDIVIDUALS REPAIR SHOP IN CRAIG, MT. AFTER A WATER PUMP, BELT AND A NEW STARTER, WE WERE ON THE ROAD MONDAY. CHRYSLER OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL.

ENGINE HAD SMALL TICKING NOISE WHEN PURCHASED AND AFTER 14000 MILES BEGAN TO KNOCK AND NOW DEALER IS SAYING THE ENGINE IS A TOTAL LOSS AND NO PROBLEM OF THEIRS. EVERYTHING THAT I HAVE LOOKED UP ON THIS ISSUE REFERS THAT THE ENGINE HAS WRIST PIN ISSUES. MY COMPLAINT REFERENCE NUMBER WITH RAM CUSTOMER CARE IS 32326037. THIS IS REALLY A ISSUE FOR ME AND MY FAMILY KNOWING THAT WE HAVE BEEN DEDICATED DODGE RAM CONSUMERS FOR OVER 30 YEARS OWNING OVER 16 VEHICLES. I WAS TOLD THAT THEY WOULD NOT PUT $8000.00 IN A $14000.00 PICKUP, I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE FROM A FIVE STAR DEALERSHIP FOR $24000.00 ONE YEAR AGO AND STILL OWE $14000.00 ON THE VEHICLE. SO AT THIS POINT THE TRUCK IS A TOTAL LOSS FOR ME AND MY FAMILY.
2014 RAM 6.4 HEMI WRIST PIN FAILURE - 2ND TIME IN 11 MONTHS ENGINE KNOCKING WITH ENGINE NEEDING REPLACEMENT 2ND TIME IN 11 MONTHS REFER TO CHRYSLER CASE #31935958 AND #29708254 WITH 25,000 MILES IN JUNE OF 2016 AND 50,000 MILES IN JUNE OF 2017. BOTH TIMES ON VACATION PULLING A 8,500# 5TH WHEEL ON MOUNTAIN ROADS. CONCERNED OF ENGINE FAILURE ON STEEP MOUNTAIN SLOPES CAUSING A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AND POSSIBLE LOSING CONTROL OF VEHICLE AND CRASHING. 6.4 HEMI APPARENTLY HAS A MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT N REGARDS TO ENGINE WRIST PINS, WHICH CHRYSLER REFUSES TO ADDRESS OF CORRECT. BOTH TIMES NOTICED ENGINE KNOCKING TRUCK WAS MOVING ON HIGHWAY PULLING A 5TH WHEEL TRAILER.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE EMISSION SYSTEM, THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER, AND GASKETS WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. IN OCTOBER 2016 WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE ENGINE FAN ASSEMBLY, THE POWER STEERING, AND THE POWER BRAKE FAILED. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE HAD NOT BEEN DETERMINED. EXAMPLES OF WHEN THIS SITUATION FREQUENTLY OCCURS ARE: MERGING ON AN EXPRESSWAY, LEAVING A STOP SIGN OR TRAFFIC SIGNAL, TURNING LEFT THROUGH ONCOMING TRAFFIC AND BUSY STOP AND GO TRAFFIC. IT ALWAYS HAPPENS IN THESE SITUATIONS AND I FEEL IT IS QUITE DANGEROUS. WHEN THE TRUCK WAS NEW, I LEFT A STOP SIGN, HAD TO LET OFF THE THROTTLE AND THEN GET BACK ON IT AND THE TRUCK SIMPLY WOULDN'T MOVE. I HAD TO COAST OFF ONTO THE SHOULDER AND THEN TAKE OFF FROM A DEAD STOP. IT HAS NOT DONE IT THAT BAD SINCE, BUT IT IS STILL THERE AND A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN.
I HAVE A 2014 RAM 2500. WHEN AT A STOP WITH THE DEFROST ON AND THE VEHICLE IS REGENING I GET THE DIESEL EXHAUST SMELL. I UNDERSTAND WHILE DEFROST IS ON, IT IS PULLING IN FRESH AIR. I TOOK IT TO DODGE AND THEY CAN NOT FORCE REGEN THE TRUCK. SO I TOOK IT TO ANOTHER SHOP, AFTER PUTTING OVER 300 MILES ON THE TRUCK. WHILE MAKING CIRCLES AROUND THE DEALER TO TRY AND GET IT TO ACT UP. THE OTHER SHOP DID A DESOOT. INSTANTLY YOU GET THE SMELL IN THE TRUCK. THEY KEPT THE TRUCK OVER NIGHT AND SMOKED THE FULL EXHAUST SYSTEM. FOUND A MINOR LEAK AT THE TAIL PIPE CLAMP. THEY WHERE UNABLE TO FIND ANY OTHER LEAKS. TOOK IT BACK TO DODGE AND THEY DID A DESOOT ALSO AND NOTICED THE SMELL. THE SMELL WAS NOT AS STRONG AS IT HAS BEEN FOR ME AND MY FAMILY. A DESOOT IS NOT A FULL REGEN CYCLE. SO I WOULD IMAGINE THE SMELL WILL NOT BE AS STRONG. DODGE WAS UNABLE TO FIND ANY LEAKS BUT ACKNOWLEDGES THE SMELL. DODGE WAS GOING TO REPLACE THE EGR AND CHRYSLER CARE CALLED THEM AND TOLD THEM NO. THAT THE SMELL IS NORMAL AND THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. CHRYSLER CARE THEN TOLD THEM IF CUSTOMER SMELLS THE FUMES JUST TURN OFF THE DEFROSTER. I HAVE DRIVEN MANY CHEVY'S AND FORDS FOR WORK PURPOSES AND NEVER HAVE I SMELLED EXHAUST DURING REGEN. THE ENGINEER THAT STOPPED ALL WORK ON MY TRUCK ALSO STATED IT IS JUST PHYSICS. WHEN IN REGEN MODE AND YOU COME TO A STOP THERE IS NO PRESSURE FORCING THE ADDITIONAL BACK PRESSURE OUT. SO I MANAGED TO SAVE UP AND PURCHASE MY FIRST NEW $65,000 TRUCK JUST TO POISON MY FAMILY WITH EXHAUST FUMES.

THERE WAS NO CHANGE IN RPM, NO CHANGE IN ACCELERATION, OR SPEED FOR AN ESTIMATED 3 SECONDS. THE TRUCK THEN SLOWLY ACCELERATED AND I NARROWLY MISSED BEING T-BONED BY ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THIS UNSAFE CONDITION WILL ALSO HAPPEN DURING HIGHWAY SPEEDS AFTER RETURNING THE PEDAL TO THE IDLE POSITION AND THEN ACCELERATING TO PASS TRAFFIC OR ENTER ANOTHER LANE. I HAVE LOST 10-20MPH AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WITH MY FOOT FULLY DEPRESSING THE PEDAL. THERE SEEMS TO BE A TOTAL DISCONNECT AT TIMES BETWEEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL POSITION AND ENGINE RPM'S/POWER. I WOULD ESTIMATE THE OCCURRENCE OF THIS ISSUE AT 10-15% OF ACCELERATOR INPUTS. THE TRUCK NOW HAS JUST OVER 9,000 MILES AND THIS HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES, SOME NEARLY CAUSING AN ACCIDENT.

ON 8/24 I PUT THE VEHICLE INTO DRIVE AND THE RPMS IMMEDIATELY CLIMBED AND THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED COMPLETELY ON ITS OWN. I WAS NOT PUSHING THE ACCELERATOR WHATSOEVER. I WAS ABLE TO SLOW THE VEHICLE DOWN, BUT IT WAS DIFFICULT TO DO AND STRAINED THE BRAKES. IMMEDIATELY AFTER I LET OFF THE BRAKES THE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY ACCELERATED AGAIN COMPLETELY ON ITS OWN. WITHIN 7 OR 8 SECOND THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING 50 MPH AND WAS ACCELERATING AT FULL SPEED--COMPLETELY ON ITS OWN. I SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES TO STOP AT A RED LIGHT AND WAS ALMOST UNABLE TO STOP. WHILE STOPPED AT THE RED LIGHT THE VEHICLE WAS STILL LUNGING FORWARD AS THE RPMS REMAINED HIGH.WHEN I LEFT OFF THE ACCELERATOR, THE VEHICLE TOOK OFF ON ITS OWN AGAIN. AT THIS POINT I WAS EXTREMELY CONCERNED AS I WAS NOT SURE IF I WOULD BE ABLE TO STOP IT AGAIN. A MESSAGE APPEARED ON THE SCREEN THAT SAID "SERVICE ELECTRONIC SPEED CONTROL." I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE AGAIN AND I COULD SMELL THE BRAKES WHEN I TURNED IT OFF THIS TIME BECAUSE OF THE STRAIN TRYING TO STOP THE VEHICLE. OBVIOUSLY, I AM NOT DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT THIS TIME. MY SON WAS IN THE TRUCK AND WE COULD HAVE BEEN EASILY KILLED OR KILLED SOMEONE ELSE. EITHER GOING FROM A DEAD STOP OR WHILE IN TRAFFIC AND APPLYING THE PEDAL TO INCREASE SPEED, THE ENGINE "STALLS" FOR A FEW SECONDS AND THEN RE-GAINS IT NORMAL SPEED. PULLING MY TRAVEL TRAILER AND ATTEMPTING TO PASS A VEHICLE, THE ENGINE STALLED CAUSING ME TO APPLY THE BRAKES AND FALL BACK IN BEHIND THE VEHICLE I WAS ATTEMPTING TO PASS. ENGINE STALLS WHEN NOT TOWING AND WHEN TOWING. MANY CLOSE CALLS FROM BEING HIT DUE TO TRUCK SLOWING DOWN. I VIEW THIS AS OTHERS DO ~ DEAD PEDAL. THIS IS A MAJOR ISSUE THAT THE DEALER FAILS TO UNDERSTAND OR DOESN'T BELIEVE YOU. A FEW MORE TRIPS TO THE DEALER WITH THIS PROBLEM AND I AM GOING TO GO WITH THE "LEMON LAW." *TR

THIS IS REGARDING THE 6.7L CUMMINS ENGINE. THROTTLE LAG FROM A DEAD STOP SUCH AS MERGING INTO TRAFFIC OR CROSSING A ROAD IS DANGEROUS. THIS LAG COULD VERY WELL CAUSE ME TO GET REAR ENDED OR BROAD SIDED. THERE IS ALSO VERY SIGNIFICANT LAG AFTER THE GAS PEDAL HAS BEEN RELEASED AND THEN PRESSED ONCE AGAIN. AN EXAMPLE IS WHEN SLOWING DOWN WHEN APPROACHING A SLOWER CAR AND THEN CHANGING LANES AND PRESSING AND ACCELERATING TO GO AROUND THE VEHICLE. *JS
