The brake system and steering system are affected. Both are subject to open safety recalls that have not been fully resolved. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. Unresolved brake and steering issues pose a serious safety risk, particularly when driving with my family. A failure or malfunction of either system could result in reduced stopping ability or loss of steering control, increasing the risk of an accident. Due to these unresolved safety concerns, I do not feel safe operating the vehicle. The issues are associated with acknowledged manufacturer recalls. However, my local dealership/manufacturing has failed to adequately respond or complete the necessary repairs, despite multiple attempts to address the problems. The vehicle has been presented to the dealership for recall-related concerns. No inspections by police or insurance representatives have occurred to date. Manufacturer involvement has been limited to customer service communications, without resolution. Symptoms include ongoing brake and steering concerns that prompted recall notifications. These issues have persisted despite recall availability and were present prior to my most recent attempts to obtain service. No effective corrective action has been completed.
With the vehicle running, regardless of bein parked or in motion, if I turn the steering wheel either Left or Right, the steering wheel kicks back against the direction the wheel is being turned. Having to fight the steering wheel while driving makes it dangerous while driving at highway speeds around corners, curves, etc. Took it into the dealership and they did verified the issue, their report states " Scanned vehicle pulling no relatable DTC's"... "performed further inspection of steering column and steering components with no visual external concerns" The dealership believes it is an internal part within the steering gear box, referencing an "internal check valve" but would have to replace that part and test again with the total cost bein $3486.96 !!! and still may not fix the issue which is internal to the steering components.
The Brake Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) covered under Safety Recall C4B has been unavailable for several years, leaving my 2018 Ram 2500 with ongoing ABS, traction control, and electronic stability control malfunctions. This defect has already caused an actual accident. In January 2024, during snow conditions, the ABS and traction control failed while I was braking in my driveway. The truck slid uncontrollably and struck a tree, causing over $10,000 in damage that had to be repaired through my insurance. This incident occurred specifically because the brake and stability systems did not function properly. The issue continues to create serious safety risks, especially in winter. The warning lights for ABS and traction control are on constantly, accompanied by continuous dinging that is extremely distracting and stressful to drive with. The truck loses stability on snow or ice, braking distance is increased, and the vehicle behaves unpredictably. I am now driving again in snow and ice this winter, and I am genuinely afraid this defect will cause another accident. Despite this being an acknowledged safety recall, every dealership I contact says the replacement HCU part is still “not available” for my vehicle. This has been confirmed repeatedly by multiple dealerships and by the manufacturer’s recall hotline. I have attempted to get this recall repaired for several years with no success. Because the recall remedy is unavailable, the vehicle remains unsafe to operate, yet I have no alternative transportation and must drive it daily. I also cannot sell or trade the truck, which has caused significant financial harm. I am requesting NHTSA assistance because the recall remedy has not been provided within a reasonable timeframe, the vehicle remains unsafe, and the defect has already contributed to a crash.
Please add this to complaint number: 11702732 This is a supplemental complaint regarding the same safety issue I previously reported involving Safety Recall C4B on my 2018 Ram 2500 - complaint # 11702732 In addition to the safety concerns and the prior accident I described in my original complaint, the unresolved recall has also caused significant financial harm. I still owe approximately $15,100 on the vehicle and must make a $515 monthly payment. Because the recall remedy has been unavailable for years, I cannot legally sell or trade the vehicle, even though it should have substantial equity. The truck’s resale value has dropped due to the open safety recall with no remedy, leaving me financially stuck with an unsafe vehicle I cannot get rid of and a high payment that I currently cannot afford due to job loss. The unresolved recall continues to put me in danger during winter driving, and the lack of remedy has created both a safety crisis and a serious financial hardship. Please attach this information to my previous complaint for the same VIN.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated that the steering wheel was loose, causing the vehicle to wobble while driving over a minor bumpy road surface. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was inspected, and the dealer determined that the welds of the nut to the adjuster sleeve were fractured. The contact stated that the vehicle was previously repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V021000 (Steering); however, the failure persisted. Additionally, the contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V896000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the ABS and the traction control warning lights were illuminated, causing the cruise control mode to become inoperable. Additionally, the vehicle made a beeping sound. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed, and determined that the brake HCU needed to be replaced. The local dealer was contacted and informed the contact that there would be a cost for the part to be replaced with the same part under recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 45,000.
Mileage: 45,000

Recall C4B/NHTSA 24V-896 Hydraulic Control Unit ABS. Continual tripping of the ABS warning resulting in loss of ABS, Cruise Control, Traction Control. Each trip give a warning and chiming resulting in nonstop alarms, noise and loss of the above features. It has been a year since the recall, over two years since the first class action and still no remedy to this safety issue. It is time for the NHTSA to sue and obtain a consent order from FCA similar to earlier FCA consent orders to repurchase these vehicles as they are currently unsafe to drive, there is no remedy in sight, and the resale value has plummeted as a result of this recall and lack of remedy.
RECALL V06/NHTSA 19V-021. I BOUGHT MY 2018 2500 RAM NEW IN 2019. ON 10-10-25 I PUT MY FIRST SET OF TIRES ON IT 37369 MILES. AFTER INSTALL OF TIRES. I WANTED AN ALIGNMENT.TECH TOOK TRUCK TO ALLIGNMENT RACK AND PULLED IT OFF REAL FAST. SALES REP TOLD ME THEY COULD NOT DO THE ALIGNMENT BECAUSE THE DRAG LINK WAS WELDED. I SHOWED HIM THE QR CODE IN MY OWNERS MANUAL WHICH HE SCANNED AND SAID THEY DONT WELD ON STEERING COMPONENTS AND TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER. I DID FELDMAN DODGE RAM AND ASKED THE REP. IF RAM WOULD REPLACE IT?? A MECHANIC WAS IN THE SERVICE AREA AND SAID THEY ONLY CUT ALIGN AND REWELD THEM AND THAT WOULD BE ADDITIONAL LABOR.THATS WHAT THEY DID. MY CONCERN IS HOW MANY TIMES CAN THE ADJUSTMENT SLEEVE AND NUTS BE CUT GROUND AND REWELDED BEFORE THE DRAG LINK FAILS AND SOMEONE IS HURT OR KILLED?? HOPE NOT ONCE. RAM CUSTOMER SERVICE SEEMS TO BE BASED IN INDIA NOW AND ARE FIRM NO REPLACMENT OR EVEN REIMBURSMENT FOR ADDITIONAL LABOR.PLEASE ADVISE, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Truck was "repaired" under Recall V06. Drag link/track bar was welded in place, which was supposed to be a temporary fix until parts became available to replace the bad drag link. In Mar of this year, I had the ball joints replaced. Upon repair, my steering wheel was cocked to the left in order to drive straight. Brought the truck back to have that repaired. Service center told me that because the part had been welded, they would have to break the weld, center the steering wheel, and reweld the part. That took place but did not fix the problem. My truck still turns right when the steering wheel is level. I have since been caught between Ram Customer Care and the dealership with each telling me the other needs to "do something" and both referring me to the other for assistance. I have attached photos of the work done and a copy of the recall. The weld job done on my truck is horrible, if not unsafe. But, I have to drive my truck. I think Ram is taking advantage of the good faith the Administration has shown them by allowing them to decide whether to make the replacement of the part. It should be mandatory. Probably thousands of Ram trucks in a similar situation on America's roads. The welded adjustment sleeve makes a proper alignment of the steering wheel impossible. The alignment is designed to be adjusted. Finally, I noted that the dealership violated the "do not sell" of the recall. I bought the truck in March 2019, without the recall call work done - unbeknownst to me. They did not take the recall seriously.
My truck would not start. I found that I could shift the vehicle into gear without the key in the ignition or foot on the brake. It appeared that the truck would not start because it could not tell when it was in park. I had to be towed to a dealership, who discovered that the Shift Interlock Solenoid had failed. There is a previous recall for the same year, make and model of my truck, but did not include my VIN. I feel that this is the same issue for which the recall was issued and mine should be included. I incurred a $640 repair bill.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V896000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The ABS and other unknown warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, who related the failure to the recall; however, parts were not yet available. The vehicle was taken to another local dealer, Sterling Heights Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram (40111 Van Dyke Ave, Sterling Heights, MI 48313) for a second opinion. The contact was informed that the drag link needed to be replaced and a front-end alignment was required, and the drag link needed to be unwelded from a prior recall repair. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was not repaired under the recall on the VIN. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 125,000.
Mileage: 125,000
While towing a heavy load of approx. 16,000 Lbs. uphill steep grade during 100 degree temperature at low travel speed but high engine RPM a load boom came from the engine compartment. Upon inspection the fan shroud had made contact to the fan and caused severe damaged to the cooling system rendering the vehicle disabled until repairs could be made. This occurred about 30,000 miles ago however the current fan shroud has also failed under normal use. If the failed shroud damages the serpentine belt steering and breaking will be jeopardized which could lead to an accident!
afety Recall V06 / NHTSA 19V-021 Drag Link - January 25, 2019 This so called fix is abhorrent! It calls for welding an adjustable part of the steering linkage rendering it non- adjustable when having the front end aligned in the future. Not to mention the effect of welding, potentially causing a problem with the integrity of the metal. The correct fix for this SAFETY issue is to REPLACE this steering linkage component (which is an option). No do a weld job on the steering linkage of all things! I am appalled that NHTSA approved such a thing. PLEASE revisit this issue and do the right thing. Require Chrysler (FCA US LLC) to REPLACE this defective part with the proper part. Note.... Chrysler is not welding the nuts on the drag links on trucks coming off the assembly line! They are coming off with proper, safe, adjustable drag links!
I am filing this complaint due to a GREAT safety concern with my vehicle. I am a law enforcement officer as well as a firefighter. I was notified that there was a safety recall on my vehicle. The recall was for the hydraulic control unit ("HCU"). One of the risks of said recall is the loss of ABS/ESC/Traction control may cause a vehicle crash without prior warning. After being notified about said recall, I notified several Ram Service locations in my area as well as the surrounding areas of where I reside. Each and every one of the service personnel or advisors I spoke with told me “there is not a remedy for the recall as of yet due to parts not being available.” When asked what I needed to do at that point, I was told to continue to drive my vehicle. Each dealership I spoke with stated they did not offer loaner vehicles, and did not know when parts would be available to fix said recall. That brings me to my complaint. On the morning of January 21, 2025 at approximately 05:47, I was driving my daughter to school then I was going to go to work there after. When I left my residence, I approached a stop sign to make a right turn. When I made the right turn, my front driver’s side wheel, locked up and pulled the vehicle hard to the left causing me to nearly strike a sheriff patrol officer and crash into a nearby residence. My daughter and I are severely shaken by this incident, and it could have been tremendously worse than it was. The Ram service departments should not be encouraging anyone to continue driving the vehicle models with this recall. It nearly killed my daughter and I. We have never experienced anything like this. This vehicle is not, and it has not been safe for operations for my family. Due to this incident I no longer have a drivable vehicle, and I still have to make the payments on said vehicle. I have looked into this problem and have found out there are two class action lawsuits in different states due to this problem. This is not a new issue.
A previous recall led to a temporary fix of the steering linkage. This temporary fix was to weld the steering linkage. I can no longer have a wheel alignment done. This causes an increased safety risk. I am constantly subjected to tire blowouts and vehicle handling whether vehicle pull, unsafe vibrations and/or general instability of vehicle. As of this moment FCA US has yet fixed the problem. There is a part that fixes this problem but FCA won’t pay for the part to put on vehicle. There needs to be a recall forcing FCA to permanently fix the existing issue rather than place a bandaid on it.
I am getting a warning saying to service the anti lock brakes and the traction control. I have had this same issue before and paid the dealership to fix it. Also when the warning appears the cruise control shuts off. I am concerned about the loss of control of the vehicle.
When driving around a bend in the road regardless of left or right bend, once the steering wheel is turned between 45-90 degrees, the steering wheel moves back and forth from left to right on its own. Also when sitting still, with the vehicle running, if you turn the steering wheel in either direction between 45-90 degrees there is "play" in the steering wheel of approx 10% without moving the actual tires. There has been no modifications or accidents to the vehicle.
I received the recall notice V06, for the Drag Link, I purchase 4 new tires and took the truck in to have the repairs done, the dealership informed me that I also needed upper and lower ball joints both sides and front end alignment, I had them preform all that they said it needed. I took the truck back because I noticed excessive tire were and they told me that the Drag link needs replaced, the alignment redone and that I would have to pay for it
CONSTANT & iNTERMITTENT system notification (Dash lights and chime tones) of required ABS serving, Traction Control failure, and DISCONNECT of Speed Control system. The problem has been on going for past 15,000 miles. NOTE: Took vehicle to RAM Dealer in Kerrville Texas and they determined no problems despite dashboard messages and lights. Dealer states that they are NOT aware of ANY issues with ABS and Traction Control on any of the 2018 RAM 2500 vehicles.
ABS MODULE HCU MODULE Has failed, cruise control doesn't work, Dinging is non stop, Everytime I hit a bump it goes on and off
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated that prior to owning the vehicle, the vehicle was serviced under NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V021000 (Steering). The remedy for the recall called for the dealer to check the steering linkage jam nut tightness, replacing the drag link assembly, or welding the nut to the adjuster sleeve. The contact recently took the vehicle to an independent mechanic for a wheel alignment and was informed that the alignment could not be performed due to the welding of the drag link. The contact was informed that the drag link would have to be cut to perform the wheel alignment. The vehicle was then taken to a dealer where it was recommended that the drag link be replaced; however, the manufacturer refused to cover the cost of the repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 108,000.

2 months ago my truck started making a “whirling noise” whenever I would turn the steering wheel. There was no change in the ability to steer at all. The service manager informed me it was a “Hydro-booster” issue and was in no way dangerous or would create a danger until an opportunity for service and parts were available. He informed me this was not a warrenty issue and I would have to either leave my truck for “weeks” while part was removed and sent in for inspection or accept noise until I wanted to foot bill for repair of over $1K. I elected to drive with noise until I could save up money and be without my work truck. Recently, driving my truck down the highway and hit a pot hole which created an “out of alighnment” in my steering. Upon arriving home the steering wheel was up to 180 degrees out of snych with steering. As I was backing into driveway and going over the driveway curb I heard a loud “clunking” noise in which my steering wheel then had absolutly no connection with the front tires. I was able to free-spin the column. I had it towed to dealership. Talking to Service Manager, he said it sounds like 2 retaining nuts loosened up to the point of falling off and steering linkage dislodged. Why is there no retaining/ locking pin on these bolting parts to prevent complete separation. I could have been still traveling down the highway when this happened. I feel this should be repaired as a Warranty and I not be charged for this repair.
The ABS and traction control has a fault that’s turns off the abs system. It’s been troubleshot to the HCU pump. There are several ram trucks with this issue. Fault code is. C0020-01 ABS pump motor control
ABS and Stability unit has failed, vehicle has 26160 miles . Dealer and manufacturer know of defect and refuses to provide any fix. This is a serious safety problem, and vehicle is unable to be used .
Failed parts . #1 abs module #2 steering box & intermediate shaft #3 balljoints .available anytime for inspection? # 1 risk brakes locking up or soft pedal #2 steering wheel back and forth to stay on highway #3 knuckle fall off failed balljoint all causing an accident.. all independent shop for all components. Dealer for steering ?? Abs traction lights
The ABS pump has failed for the second time, my vehicle has less than 80000 miles on it. The first replacement was covered under factory warranty. I have researched this issue and have found this to be a common issue and at this time the factory is not issuing a recall. Dodge/Ram is well aware of this issue and the repair should be covered as a factory defect.
I purchased 4 new tires and wanted a front end alignment. There was an issue with drag link so the fox was Chrysler to weld draglink now that has been done before I purchased truck I can’t do alignment. Dealership said should be covered but have to wait until they hear from Chrysler. Going in 5 weeks still haven’t heard back I have called numerous times!
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated while driving at approximately 40 MPH, the ABS warning light illuminated with an audible chime. The contact stated that the failure had been intermittent but had become a recurring failure while driving at various speeds. The contact stated that when the ABS warning light illuminated with the cruise control engaged, the vehicle would revert to manual mode and turn off the cruise control. Additionally, the cruise control could not be re-engaged. The contact also stated that when the ABS warning light was illuminated, the brake pedal would feel soft or "mushy" while depressed. Additionally, the contact stated that while making a tight turn to either to the right or left, the steering wheel felt loose. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the ABS Control Module needed to be replaced. The steering wheel failure had not been diagnosed. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000. The VIN was not available.
Mileage: 110,000
Driving home from work, ABS and traction control light and warning started to go on and off nonstop every 2 seconds or so. No bumps on the road or excessive turning just a straight highway.. will contact dealer today for any recalls but I don’t see any open.
The Traction Control and ABS/EBS sensors have failed on my truck. The dealer states that I need an HCU and ABS module in-order to correct the problem, however because the vehicle was made in Mexico the replacement parts are not available.
Ive purchased this truck from the dealer with the remedy Recall 19V-021 back in 2019. my front right tire went bald after 3000 miles. driven. I purchased new tires and got an alignment. the Auto shop told me the could only adjust the to there best ability due to the welded nut on one of the parts on the steering parts. I went for a 600 mile trip and right as i got on the highway the front right tire blew out. I either need the drag link replaced or a better remedy the front right tire is wearing faster then the other three.
2018 Dodge Ram 2500 with Cummins turbo diesel. When driving, the dash warning light for the ABS and the Traction Control System intermittently come in and spontaneously reset. If the cruise control is on and set, it turns off without driver input. Dodge dealer states that the hydraulic control unit needs to be replaced, but they have been on back order for over a year.
Abs and traction control indicator lamps have an intermittent flash and alarm that alert at random times. This is dangerous as this not only disables the cruise control but the traction control is then disabled as well as the abs system causing brakes to lock up. Mopar and ram refuse to fix the issue and it costs consumers $1200 for parts and labor that may or not fix the issue. This is reported in many forum pages as well with all having the same complaints and stuck with the repair or not due to unreasonable cost associated with a possible fix. This should be an immediate recall as it is a safety concern even more so than an airbag issue. I cannot fathom a government agency responsible for safety to not mandate this as a recall.
Dodge had a recall on the drag link. Their remedy was to weld the jam nuts. This causes issues when you need to get an alignment. My truck currently needs an alignment and the steering wheel recentered and no shops are willing to complete it. This causes a huge safety risk while driving and pulling my trailer. The remedy should be for dodge to replace the part as they know it is faulty and unsafe. I would like them to replace the drag link with the new updated part and return my truck to a safe vehicle for my family and I to drive.
Vehicle has 62953 miles. Ram service dept says the vehicle needs new engine, pcm, hydro boost assembly, hydraulic control unit, shifter assembly. They repaired the drag link in 2019. This did not solve issue. The tires were being worn rapidly. Ram said they would replace the drag link. Vehicle is drivable but not safe.
Have taken the vehicle into Dodge / Ram Dealership twice within 90 days and steering issue remains an issue. I have been charged over $2000 for replacement parts and labor to include a new Drag Link. Was driving on the highway on 12 March at 1430, when truck began to drift to the right almost striking another vehicle. Vehicle has been a local Dodge Dealership and they have left me leave 2x putting my family, other drivers and myself at risk.
The Service Electronic Braking and Service Traction Control comes on intermittently while operating the vehicle. I have had it fixed once under warranty. It is not a safe vehicle to operate without traction control and abs.
ABS system failed at 6000 miles. Dealership replaced the brake system I was told. AT 37000 miles just out of the basic warranty it has failed again. Dealership can not do the repairs due to the fact there is not enough replacement parts because of all the trucks are failing in this matter. ABS/TRACTION control failure. I have been waiting four months and told maybe March now. Dealership has been in contact and doing everything possible. Its just so many trucks are failing. I am almost ready to sell it at a loss. I purchased this truck to haul my RV which I don't dare too. Also they welded my steering linkage on a recall and now I can not align my steering with new tires. I am just amazed with this repair on a heavy duty four wheel drive as well. They did not inform me on this cheap repair. Something a kid would do and not tell his dad. Also the cruise control is now not working while there is a abs failure. 6000 miles on first failure of brakes. Truck has now 42000 on it. Im afraid of driving this truck anyplace with traffic. This truck will kill someone with this issue.
Repair to recall v06 to fix drag link was improperly performed by ram certified dealer, resulting in a drag link that is impossible to adjust. This prevents the alignment from being corrected, creating unsafe steering conditions.
On 10/07/2022, I took the vehicle VIN number in reference for tire change at FIRESTONE Auto Care (440 S. Main St., Wichita, KS 67202-3720 - [316] 265-6659]). I also requested, wheels alignment and wheels/tire balance, and brake inspection. Upon those inspections, the technicians pointed out an IMPORTANT issue as follows: "IMPORTANT: This vehicle may be subject to a recall involving the toe adjuster. Search the internet for 'recall number 19V-021' for the latest information Under no circumstances should a weld from a recall repair be removed for any reason, including to perform an alignment. Removing the weld would remove a safety recall remedy that is currently in place., which would cause a serious vehicle safety issue. To adjust toe on a vehicle with a welded drag link in the WinToe procedure, choose 'select steering type' on the second tier of 'k-keys. Then, select the 'one tie rod' option. For more information, please reference TSB 19-001-19." The vehicle in reference has been mostly serviced at Davis-Moore (7675 E. Kellogg, Wichita, KS 67207 [316] 618-2268). This is the first time I took this vehicle to FIRESTONE who pointed out the above information. Please, let me know if this is a safety issue and, if it is, please take the necessary steps to enforce a solution to that issue. Thank you.
The truck recently started displaying "Service Antilock Brake System" periodically on the information panel. Sometimes it comes on periodically while driving, sometimes only once, sometimes every minute or so and sometimes does not come on at all. We have not had this inspected but looking online appears to be a common problem in these trucks that should be considered a recall. Truck only has 50K miles when this started but this appears to start as soon as 3K miles on some other trucks. This should be a recall as the ABS system is a safety feature that should not be malfunctioning. A second issue that started shortly before this one is the steering wheel shakes when making turns and going over bumps. The truck was serviced for the drag link recall and this started shortly after that and is getting worse with time. Not sure if related to the ABS problem since they started pretty close together or if this is related to the 4WD as it shakes when turning similar to when the 4WD is selected but in this case it is not. This is also a safety issue as you could lose steering.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated while her husband was driving approximately 25 MPH the steering wheel lost functionality, the vehicle veered to the left off of the roadway. The vehicle collided with a reinforced cinder block wall on the driver's side front end, the hood impacted first and was crushed with additional damage to the undercarriage. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The airbags did not deploy. The husband was transported from the scene by ambulance to a hospital. The husband received cuts to left side of head and left side of face, additionally the contact had minor cuts to the left side of her face and bruised left forearm. The police were on scene and an incident report was written. The vehicle was towed to a towing lot and later towed to a collision repair center. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number 19V021000 (Steering). The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 37,000.

We were involved in a single car crash, it’s been over a month and it’s still under investigation. The steering link was still intact. Is there another reason that would have caused us to loose control of the steering and crash?
Steering dang link , steering gear box has my steering throwing me all over the road . It's getting bad to almost causing wrecks and suspension is very bad . This has been getting really bad to the point of calling a lawyer
My husband was driving a "gsa work truck" when the steering linkage apparently broke. After running the vin, it shows there is a unrepaired recall. After someone contacted management in regards to the unrepaired recall, an employee named kirt flowers claims that the recall was fixed, but the dealership failed to put it in the system. (Highly unlikely!) Even if that was true, the "repair" failed. Either way, someone could have been killed!
Regarding the Safety Recall V06 / NHTSA 19V-021 Drag Link. This issue regarding the jam nuts on the drag link needs to be remedied. It calls for welding an adjustable part of the steering linkage rendering it non- adjustable when having the front end aligned in the future. Not to mention the effect of welding, potentially causing a problem with the integrity of the metal. The correct fix for this SAFETY issue is to REPLACE this steering linkage component, the entire Drag Link! And NOT a weld job on the steering linkage of all things!
Drag link even welded on is throwing my steering off bad. It’s not safe and they should just put an aftermarket or better drag link on.
TRUCK SLIDES AFTER BEING PARKED . IT HAS SLID ANYWHERE FROM 1 FOOT WHILE I STOOD THERE WATCHING. TO SEVERAL FEET WHERE I HAD TO JUMP BACK INTO THE TRUCK TO STOP IT. AND OVER 14 ONE NIGHT FROM THE TIME I PARKED TO WHEN I CAME OUT THE NEXT MORNING. DOES NOT FULLY ACCELERATE THRU A TURN.,TOUGH TO TURNS SOMETIMES. IN SAME TURNS

THE DRAG LINK ON ABOUT 795,000 OF THE ABOVE VEHICLES MAY HAVE BEEN BUILT WITH AN OUTBOARD STEERING LINKAGE JAM NUT THAT COULD LOOSEN ALLOWING ONE END OF THE DRAG LINK TO SEPARATE FROM THE ADJUSTER SLEEVE. A DRAG LINK SEPARATION CAN RESULT IN A LOSS OF DIRECTIONAL STEERING CONTROL, WHICH CAN CAUSE A VEHICLE CRASH WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING.

I PURCHASED THE TRUCKS USED FROM A DEALERSHIP RICK HENDRICK IN FAYETTEVILLE, NC. IN MARCH OF 2019. IT ONLY HAD 20,000 MILES ON IT. ISSUE ONE WAS THEY SOLD IT TO ME WITH PARTS THAT VOID WARRANTY PER CHRYSLER AND THIS WAS NOT DISCLOSED UP FRONT. MAIN PROBLEM I HAD TO THREATEN TO SUE IN ORDER TO GET MONEY BACK TO GET TIRES WITH THE CORRECT CLASS RATING AS I COULD NOT TOW WITH IT. NEXT ISSUE WAS THEY WOULD NOT WARRANTY BAD WHEEL BEARING OR BREAKS AT 37000 MILES WHICH PER THEM WAS DUE TO A LIFT KIT. THERE IS NO LIFT KIT ON THE TRUCK BUT SOMEONE INSTALL A LEVELING KIT. DODGE ALSO PERFORMED A WARRANTY RECALL ON THE TRUCK AFTER IT WAS PURCHASE WHICH IS THE D TRUCK DRAG LINK. IT HAS SINCE COME UNDONE AND THERE IS NO CORRECT FIX FOR THIS OR SOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM. NO ONE ELSE WILL TOUCH THE ISSUE OR RESOLVE IT WHEN CHECKING ALIGNMENT. NOW MY STEERING WHEEL IS WAY OFF BY ROUGHLY 30 DEGREE FROM CENTER AND THE TRUCK IS HARD TO DRIVE ON HIGHWAY. I HAVE TAKEN IT IN TO HAVE DODGE REDO THIS WORK AND NOW THEY REFUSE TO DO IT AND WANT ME TO GO FOR A WEEK WITHOUT MY TRUCK WHICH I CAN NOT DO WHILE THEY INVESTIGATE AND FIGURE OUR WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE. CURRENTLY THEY ARE NOT OFFERING ME ANOTHER VEHICLE TO DRIVE. I'VE TAKEN THE TRUCK TO OTHER AUTO REPAIR PLACE AND NO ONE WILL WORK ON THIS DUE TO RECALL. DODGE HAS TO DO THIS AND MAKE IT RIGHT ITS NOT MY FAULT AND THE TRUCK IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE BUT I HAVE NO CHOICE AS I HAVE NOTHING ELSE TO DRIVE FOR WORK. IN SHORT THE STEERING IS VERY LOSE AND IF THIS D LINK COMES ANY LOSER IT COULD CAUSE THE TRUCK TO CRASH AND ME TO LOSE CONTROL WITH OUT ME DOING ANYTHING BUT DRIVING NORMAL ON HIGHWAY. PLEASE HELP WHAT CHRYSLER AND DODGE ARE DOING TO BE IS WRONG. I JUST WANT MY TRUCK TO WORK RIGHT ITS ONLY A 2018 AND I HAVE PAID GOOD MONEY FOR EVERYTHING TO GET CORRECT AND IT STILL IS NOT. YOU CAN PULL EVERYTHING ON TRUCK IN CAR FACT REPORTS.

APPARENTLY RAM WELDED THE JAM NUTS TO THE ADJUSTER SLEEVE ON MY NEW 2018 RAM 2500 HD PRIOR TO ME TAKING DELIVERY OF THE VEHICLE LAST YEAR. AFTER INSTALLING NEW TIRES, I ATTEMPTED TO HAVE MY TRUCK ALIGNED BUT WAS TOLD BY MY MECHANIC THAT HE WAS NOT WILLING TO ALIGN THE TRUCK DUE TO THE WELDS ON THE DRAG LINK ASSEMBLY. I WAS FORCED TO PURCHASED AN UPDATED DRAG LINK ASSEMBLY FROM RAM TO ALLOW MY TRUCK TO BE ALIGNED, BUT MY REIMBURSEMENT REQUEST TO FCA HAS BEEN DENIED BECAUSE THEY FEEL THE WELDS WERE SUFFICIENT TO REPAIR THE DEFECT OUTLINED IN THEIR V06 RECALL. THE SAFETY OF MY FAMILY SHOULDN'T REST ON TWO BOOGER WELDS THAT WERE NOT PERFORMED BY A CERTIFIED WELDER AND FCA SHOULD BE LIABLE FOR THE COST OF THE PROPER REPLACEMENT PARTS.

I AM HAVING ISSUES WITH MY DRAG LINK LOOSENING WHILE DRIVING. A RECALL WAS ISSUED HOWEVER THE SOLUTION TO MITIGATE THIS IS WELDING THE JAM NUTS. THIS DOES NOT ALLOW ME TO REALIGN THE TRUCK PROPERLY. I HAVE ATTEMPTED TO CONTACT FCA DOZENS OF TIMES AND HAVE PROMISED A CASE MANAGER WOULD CALL ME BACK TO RECTIFY THIS BUT THEY HAVE FAILED TO REACH OUT. THIS HAS BEEN ONGOING FOR TWO MONTHS NOW AND POSES A SERIOUS SAFETY RISK TO MY VEHICLE AND MY FAMILY.

TRUCK HAS A VERY EVIDENT AERATION NOISE EVERY TIME STEERING WHEEL IS TURNED AT ANY TIME. TRUCKS POWER STEERING FLUID HAS FALLEN BELOW MINIMUM THREE TIMES IN THE VEHICLES LIFE. TRUCK IS AT 27,000 MILES. ISSUE BEGAN AROUND 15,000 MILES. BUBBLES IN POWER STEERING RESERVOIR. POWER STEERING PUMP SMELLS LIKE IT'S BURNING UP. POWER STEERING PUMP AND HYDRO BOOST ARE FAILING AND HAS AIRFLOW PASSING THROUGH A SYSTEM THAT CONSTANTLY NEEDS TO BE LUBRICATED BY POWER STEERING FLUID. PUMP AND HYDROBOOST WILL FAIL PREMATURELY BEFORE THEIR LIFE EXPECTANCIES. I HAVE BROUGHT MY VEHICLE INTO THREE DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS, TWICE AT ROCKWALL DODGE, TWICE AS DALLAS DODGE, ONCE AT HUFFINES DODGE. DEALERSHIPS CLAIM NOTHING IS WRONG WITH VEHICLE, THE POWER STEERING PUMP ON THIS PARTICULAR MODEL IS MORE AUDIBLE THAN OTHERS, ALSO THERE IS SUPPOSED TO BE SOME AIR CREATED IN POWER STEERING SYSTEM. DEALERSHIP SERVICE ADVISOR STATED, 'FOR ALL I KNOW, YOU COULD BE SYPHONING THE FLUID OUT OF THE RESERVOIR AND CLAIMING IT'S LOW' EACH DEALERSHIP SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG, BUT HAS FAILED TO EXPLAIN TO ME WHERE MY FLUID IS GOING, WHY I'M LOSING BRAKING POWER, HAVING COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER STEERING, OR WHY MY TRUCK IS VERY AUDIBLY MAKING AN AERATION NOISE. VEHICLE HAS BEEN OUT OF SERVICE FOR 15 PLUS DAYS. DEALERSHIPS ONLY LOOK TO SEE PHYSICAL LEAKS, SEE NOTHING, AND SAY IT'S FINE AND SEND ME OUT THE DOOR. I'VE BEEN THROUGH THE LEMON LAW PROCESS. THIS RECALL ALLOWED THE MANUFACTURER TO WELD AN ADJUSTABLE COMPONENT RENDERING IT NON-ADJUSTABLE. THIS STEERING LINK SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPLACED, NOT COMPROMISED. FUTURE ALIGNMENT ADJUSTMENTS MAY NOT BE MADE WITHOUT POSSIBLE DAMAGE FROM REMOVING THE WELDS WHICH WILL LIKELY CAUSE DAMAGE AND WEAKEN THE COMPONENTS.
THE DRAG LINK RECALL IS TO WELD THE DRAG LINK THUS MAKING IT UNUSABLE TO GET A FRONT END ALIGNMENT AND ALSO CHANGING PROPERTIES OF THE METAL BY WELDING IT AND POSSIBLY MAKING IT WEEK AND PRONE TO A FAILURE.

FCA COMPLETED A SUB-PAR REPAIR ON A DEFECT RELATED TO THEIR RECALL NOTICE V06. THIS 'REPAIR' WAS COMPLETED ON MY NEW 2018 RAM 2500 POWER WAGON PRIOR TO ME TAKING DELIVERY OF THE VEHICLE (I AM THE 1ST OWNER). THE 'REPAIR' RELEGATES WHAT IS DESIGNED AND REQUIRED TO BE AN ADJUSTABLE STEERING DRAG LINK INTO A FIXED, NON-ADJUSTABLE COMPONENT BY WELDING THE JAM NUTS TO THE ADJUSTING SLEEVE. BY DOING SO, FUTURE STEERING ALIGNMENTS WILL REQUIRE ADDITIONAL TIME AND EXPENSE TO THE CUSTOMER BECAUSE FCA WANTS TO SAVE A FEW DOLLARS INSTEAD OF PROPERLY REPAIRING THE VEHICLE AS PART OF THE V06 RECALL CAMPAIGN. FCA REDESIGNED THIS COMPONENT FOR THE 2019+ MODELS AND THE NEWLY DESIGNED COMPONENT IS FULLY COMPATIBLE WITH PRIOR MODEL YEARS. I HAVE PURCHASED THE REDESIGNED COMPONENT AT MY OWN EXPENSE BECAUSE I DO NOT FEEL SAFE WITH AN ADJUSTABLE PART THAT WAS WELDED BY A NON-CERTIFIED WELDER AND WASN'T DESIGNED TO BE WELDED. THE MATERIALS ARE DISSIMILAR AND ANY WELD WILL BE SUBJECT TO FAILURE UNLESS CAREFUL CONSIDERATION WAS GIVEN TO THE AMPERAGE AND FILLER MATERIAL BEING USED TO COMPLETE THE WELD.

I HAVE THE VERY SAME ISSUE THAT HAS BEEN PREVIOUSLY EXPRESSED ON MAY 20TH, 2019. I HAD MY SERVICE DONE ON THE MAY 20TH, ONLY TO BE TOLD ABOUT THE 'SPOT WELD' WHEN I PICKED UP THE TRUCK, AFTER THE REPAIR WAS DONE. I TOO AGREE WITH THIS DESCRIPTION THE FRUSTRATIONS, ISSUES AND CONCERNS. THIS IS NOT AN ACCEPTABLE FIX, ESPECIALLY OF A NEW VEHICLE. I RECENTLY RECURVED A RECALL (V06) ON MY NEW RAM 2500. THIS RECALL REQUIRED THE JAM NUTS ON THE ADJUSTER SLEEVE PORTION OF THE DRAG LINK TO BE WELDED IN PLACE. THIS AFFECTS THE SERVICEABILITY OF THE VEHICLE IN THAT IF AN ALIGNMENT IS REQUIRED THE STEERING WHEEL WILL BE OFF CENTER BECAUSE THE COMPONENT THAT IS DESIGNED FOR THIS ADJUSTMENT HAS BEEN RENDERED USELESS BECAUSE OF THE RECALL PROCEDURE. I QUESTIONED THE SERVICE REP WHEN I HAD THE RECALL PERFORMED IF THIS WAS A TEMPORARY FIX UNTIL A PROPERLY REDESIGNED COMPONENT WAS AVAILABLE. HIS ANSWER WAS THAT TO HIS KNOWLEDGE WELDING THE JAM NUTS WAS THE PERMANENT FIX. I FEEL THIS REPAIR IS UNACCEPTABLE AS A PERMANENT FIX AS IT RENDERS A COMPONENT OF THE STEERING SYSTEM THAT WAS DESIGNED TO BE ADJUSTABLE USELESS, THUS MAKING ROUTINE MAINTENANCE IMPOSSIBLE.

RAM ISSUED A RECALL TO WELD THE ADJUSTMENT NUT ON THE DRAG LINK. THIS IS NOT THE PROPER WAY TO FIX THE PROBLEM. MY TRUCK HAS BEEN TO TWO DIFFERENT DEALERS AND WELDED THREE TIMES. THE PROBLEM IS STILL NOT FIXED.
THE FCA HAS ISSUED A V06 RECALL FOR THE DRAG LINK ON MY VEHICLE. AS STATED IN THE RECALL, THE OUTBOARD STEERING LINKAGE JAM NUT MAY LOOSEN, ALLOWING ONE END OF THE DRAG LINK TO SEPARATE. I CHECKED MY TRUCK AND ONE JAM NUT WAS LOOSE. ACCORDING TO THE RECALL, IF THE TORQUE VALUES MEET REQUIREMENT, THE NUTS WILL BE WELDED TO THE ADJUSTER SLEEVE. IF THE TORQUE VALUES DO NOT MEET REQUIREMENT, THE DRAG LINK ASSEMBLY WILL BE REPLACED. I THEN CALLED MY DEALER AND HE CONFIRMED THAT THEY COULD NOT WELD IT. UNFORTUNATELY, HE ALSO STATED THAT NO REPLACEMENT PARTS WERE CURRENTLY AVAILABLE. SO WHERE DOES THAT LEAVE ME? I EMAILED THE FCA CEO AND EVENTUALLY WAS TOLD THAT I NEEDED TO DRIVE THE TRUCK TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. I WAS APPALLED THAT I WAS SUPPOSE TO DRIVE THE TRUCK WITH A LOOSE DRAG LINK AND THAT THEY COULDN'T DO ANYTHING ELSE TO HELP ME UNTIL I DID SO. I EVEN SENT THEM PICTURES OF THE LOOSE DRAG LINK, YET THEY WILL TAKE NO ACTION. I DO NOT WANT TO PUT MY LIFE, OR THE LIVES OF FAMILY MEMBERS AT RISK TO DRIVE THE TRUCK IN TO BE TOLD THE SAME THING I WAS OVER THE PHONE. SOME PEOPLE HAVE POSTED ONLINE THAT THEY HAVE BEEN REIMBURSED FOR AN AFTERMARKET DRAG LINK OR THE DEALER HAS REPLACED THE DRAG LINK WITH A NEWER VERSION. I'M HOPING TO HAVE ONE OR THE OTHER DONE.

THE FCA RECALL V06 CONCERNING DRAG LINK SEPARATION PRESCRIBES A SPOT WELD REPAIR THAT I FEEL WILL EVENTUALLY FAIL BECAUSE OF FUTURE ALIGNMENT SERVICE. SPOT WELDING THE JAM NUTS TO THE ADJUSTER SLEEVE WORKS ONLY UNTIL THE NUT AND ADJUSTMENT SLEEVE ARE SEPARATED WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN FOR A FUTURE ALIGNMENT. I CALLED DODGE WITH THIS CONCERN, AND THEY PUT ME IN CONTACT WITH THE LOCAL DEALER WHO SAID IF THE ADJUSTER NEEDED TO BE MOVED WITH FUTURE ALIGNMENTS THEY WOULD GRIND THE WELD OFF, MAKE THE ADJUSTMENT, THEN WELD THE NUTS BACK TO THE ADJUSTMENT SLEEVE. THIS WILL WORK IF THE OWNER USES ONLY THE DODGE DEALER FOR ALIGNMENT. MANY ALIGNMENTS ARE DONE AT TIRE STORES, AND A VARIETY OF OTHER SERVICE FACILITIES WHO WILL NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS REPAIR. THE WELD MIGHT BREAK WHEN THE TECHNICIAN COUNTER WRENCHES THE JAM NUT AND ADJUSTMENT SLEEVE, OR GRINDS IT OFF TO ALIGN THE TRUCK. WITH OUT KNOWING ABOUT THIS RECALL THE TECH MIGHT MAKE ADJUSTMENTS AND TURN THE JAM NUT BACK ON THE SLEEVE; RETURNING THE TRUCK TO IT'S PRE RECALL CONDITION. THIS IS NOT A COMPLAINT ABOUT THE DEALER, OR FCA. I'M CONCERNED THAT MOST OWNERS WILL BE UNAWARE THAT AFTER A COMMON ALIGNMENT THE V06 RECALL MIGHT NEED TO BE REDONE. MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN SPOT WELDED AND THE RECALL IS DONE.

I WAS RECENTLY NOTIFIED OF SAFETY RECALL V06 / NHTSA 19V-021 DRAG LINK FOR MY 2018 RAM 2500. I'M WRITING TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THE PROPOSED REPAIR: "...THE (JAM) NUTS WILL BE WELDED TO THE ADJUSTER SLEEVE." THIS SOLUTION APPEARS TO SIMPLY MASK THE PROBLEM OF THE ADJUSTER SLEEVE'S THREADS BEING STRIPPED OUT AND THE DRAG LINK BECOMING SEPARATED FROM THE VEHICLE'S STEERING CONTROLS, AND QUITE POSSIBLY WITHOUT WARNING. AS THE SUBJECT COMPONENT IS RELATED TO MANEUVERING LARGE VEHICLES THAT OFTEN CARRY OR PULL LARGE LOADS, AND THUS VITAL FOR PUBLIC SAFETY, I FEEL STRONGLY THAT FIAT CHRYSLER AUTOMOBILES SHOULD PROVIDE A MUCH HIGHER QUALITY SOLUTION TO THIS ISSUE. FURTHER, THIS COMPONENT IS DESIGNED TO BE AN ADJUSTABLE COMPONENT, ADJUSTMENTS WOULD NO LONGER BE POSSIBLE AFTER THE NUT(S) IS WELDED TO THE ADJUSTER SLEEVE; THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE AS THE NUT/PART WOULD HAVE TO BE CUT OFF WITH A GRINDER OR METAL SAW (WHICH WOULD DAMAGE THESE PARTS) THE NEXT TIME THE STEERING NEEDS TO BE ADJUSTED. ULTIMATELY, I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THE PROPOSED "REPAIR" AS THERE ARE KNOWN ALTERNATIVES THAT WOULD PROPERLY CORRECT THIS ISSUE.
THE RECENT RAM 2500 RECALL NUMBER V06/NHTSA RECALL NUMBER 19V-021 REMEDY/REPAIR, HAS ME VERY, VERY, VERY UPSET AS A CONSUMER. IF I MAY BE SO BOLD, THE ENGINEER(S) THAT DEVISED THE REPAIR METHOD FOR THOSE TRUCKS EFFECTED, REALLY DIDN'T THINK THINGS THROUGH FROM A CONSUMER PERSPECTIVE. THE WELDING OF THE JAM NUTS ON THE LEFT/RIGHT DRAG LINKS, MEANS THAT PART OF THE OVERALL STEERING GEOMETRY ADJUSTMENTS, HAS BEEN MINIMIZED AS IT APPLIES TO TOE AND STEERING WHEEL ALIGNMENT ADJUSTMENTS. THE REPAIR IS A CHEAP, JURY RIGGED TEMPORARY REPAIR THAT CLEARLY IS A COSTS SAVINGS MEASURE. EVERY CUSTOMER THAT HAS HAD THIS REPAIR, WILL REQUIRE THE PURCHASE OF A NEW SET OF DRAG LINKS IN THE FUTURE. MY VEHICLE (2018 RAM 2500 POWER WAGON) IS BUILT FOR EXTREME OFF-ROADING, AND I CAN GUARANTEE YOU AND DODGE/FIAT/RAM THAT I NEED THE ABILITY TO MAKE ADJUSTMENTS' THIS IS AN UNEXPECTED ACT ON THE BEHALF OF FIAT' I REALLY DO WANT AN ANSWER BACK ABOUT HOW THIS IS GOING TO BE ADDRESSED' MY ANSWER IS SIMPLE; MAKE SURE THE CURRENT INVENTORY OF REPLACEMENT DRAG LINKS, DO NOT HAVE THE SAME SUB-STANDARD BUILD AS THE CURRENT LINKS, AND' RATHER THAT WELD THE JAM NUTS, JUST REPLACE THE DRAG LINKS WITH UPDATED ONES'
