I own a 2018 Ram 2500 equipped with the 6.7L Cummins diesel engine that I purchased brand new in Iowa. For approximately the last four to five years, my vehicle has displayed persistent warnings including “Service Electronic Braking System,” ABS warning light, and traction control warnings, accompanied by constant audible alerts. As a result, multiple braking safety systems are disabled, including anti-lock braking, stability control, traction control, and cruise control. For several years I contacted Ram dealerships and the manufacturer regarding this issue and was repeatedly told that repair parts were unavailable. During this time, widespread reports of identical failures were being discussed on owner forums and among dealerships. A federal safety recall was eventually issued for the ABS control module, and I received my official recall notification letter approximately one year ago. Despite the recall being active, the manufacturer and local dealerships continue to state that no replacement parts are available and that there is no estimated timeline for when a remedy will be provided. As of today, my vehicle remains unrepaired and continues to operate with disabled braking safety systems and constant warning alarms. This is a heavy-duty truck that is regularly operated in Iowa, where inclement weather conditions including snow, ice, and heavy rain are common. I am concerned about the safety risk posed by operating a vehicle with compromised braking and stability systems and the lack of any available remedy after more than a year under an active safety recall. I am submitting this complaint to document the ongoing safety defect, the prolonged lack of remedy, and the manufacturer’s inability to provide a timeline for repair of this federally recalled braking system.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V896000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic); however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated that the ABS and Traction Control warning lights were illuminated. While attempting to use the cruise control, the system failed to activate. The dealer was contacted. The manufacturer was made aware of the issues and confirmed that the remedy was not yet available. The failure mileage was approximately 118,000.

Recall/Campaign: Ram/Stellantis C4B Problem: “Dealer says remedy/parts are not available / cannot schedule recall repair.” This has been a problem since 2023. Have not had ABS for years or 4x4 and i live in a snow environment. My breaks and rotors are trash from not having ABS.
My 2018 RAM 2500 has had an ABS system recall since Nov 2024. My truck has had a problem with the ABS since 2019. I do not have anit-lock brakes or cruise control as a result of this failure to be able to resolve the problem. Over a year since the recall, and still no parts available. How long is the NHTSA going to let RAM get away with this?? Maybe after some has an accident or hurts someone they will respond. I have been a RAM owner since 1989 since the first CUMMINS engine was put in their 2500's. I'm VERY disappointed in RAM, and the NHTSA for not resolving this.
I am the owner of a 2018 RAM 2500 that is subject to NHTSA safety recall 24V-896 (manufacturer recall C4B), involving a potential failure of the Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) affecting ABS, electronic stability control, and traction control systems. This recall has been active for over one year on my vehicle. Despite repeated contact with authorized RAM dealerships and the manufacturer, I have been informed that no repair remedy or replacement parts are available, and no timeline has been provided for when the recall can be completed. This is a brake-related safety recall, and the continued inability to repair the vehicle creates an ongoing safety risk. The manufacturer has not provided an interim remedy, loaner vehicle, or alternative solution. I am filing this complaint to document that the recall remains unresolved due to parts unavailability and to request NHTSA review of the extended delay in providing a safety remedy.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated that the ABS warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the traction control was unavailable and was not in service, and the cruise control was not available. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V896000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The local dealer was contacted and provided a cost for the repair. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and opened a case, but no additional correspondence was received. The failure mileage was approximately 36,500.

Early 2024 and it continues today, I randomly get an alert about my braking system needing checked but then the message will go away and everything works fine. I finally took it to Keer Automotive dealership in New Lexington OH in March 2024 to see what was going on and they advised there was an issue with the ABS module and the part wasn't available but they were expecting it in May 2024 and it would cost about $1800 for the repair. They put me on their list to contact when they received the parts. Around November 2024, I received a recall notice. To date, I am still waiting on the part. I continue to follow up with Keer but they have no answers. In the meantime, I am stuck with a $65,000 truck that has a faulty braking unit. It is my mode of transportation and with winter upon us once again I am faced with winter weather driving and not knowing if my brakes will work properly. This puts me and anyone riding with me at extreme risk of an accident as well as anyone around me that could be impacted should an accident occur.
Stellantis and RAM companies have had Manufacturer Recall NumberC4B NHTSA Recall Number24V-896 Recall Status: Recall Incomplete, remedy not yet available This has been well over a year and I have lost the use of my Truck for loading my Truck Camper for the entire year due to their lack of resources allocated to fix this issue. I have had the Traction control light /ABS Service light associated with the HCU electric pump motor fail on this recall since June of 2024 and it is due to defective parts that do not last as this was the second HCU/Electric pump motor in the truck from the Manufacturer and installed serviced by my local RAM dealer dealer( first one failed at 11,500 miles approximately. my truck has 23,000 miles on it currently as and when the repair part(s) come into stock, it will be the 3rd unit installed. This time on waiting for upgraded parts to be installed under the Recall/Warranty is unacceptable and is not "TIMELY" at all. Additionally if this light comes on during driving with cruise control on it will shut off cruise control and can cause an accident from the deceleration.
I have a 2018 ram 2500 purchase from the dealership within the same week of purchase magically the ABS system failed driving down the highway in the middle of winter time kicking out cruise control and traction control causing me to almost crash on the highway and get hit by a semi Not only have I had the truck for almost 2 years unable to drive it I believe the dealership should never been able to sell me this vehicle with the known problems and what they already failing ABS system making me unaware of the issue Yes and the brake system not working in the truck sitting has caused other failures in the vehicle now a transmission shop told me the ABS failure affecting other parts of the truck caused the transmission brain to not work correctly and my warranty could not fix the transmission is corrected and fixed so I have those problems now that can't be fixed until the ABS systems fixed and there's no parts available still so my warranty is going to expire before the break system can get fixed Before it went out on me there were no lights I purchased it from the dealership so obviously they had cleared out the failure and lights to make the vehicle sale because the ABS light came on during test drive and I was told that was a new feature to remind you to check brake pad for wear and tear
Traction Control and ABS not working properly. ABS light on dashboard is on called dealer several times and am told that the parts are unavailable. However, they said if I want to pay for the parts they could fix it. We called mopar and were told that the parts are available and can even be purchased on [XXX] . Called and explained this to the dealer and they said they had 1 in stock and made an appointment. Then received a call that they didnt know if they could get the parts - seems like if I want to pay out of pocket they will fix it. I would like to know if I lose my brakes or have an accident because of this safety issue who will be responsible?? 24v896-unit has been coding for months, dealership or chrysler have no fix in site. this is a safety hazard and I need my unit for daily driver and have been without for more than 3 months with no solution. I need them to replace this unit with a new unit or buy it back for the price of what it would cost me to get a new one. I need to have a truck to use if they are not going to repair it. I need this now.
abs and traction lights stay on. cruise control does not work. recall is 24V-896 and parts are still not available after almost a year.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated that while driving at undisclosed speeds, the traction control and cruise control failed to operate as needed. The alert for the ABS was inoperable. The contact stated that several unknown warning lights were illuminated on the instrument cluster. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V896000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with a failed HCU, and the pump and the control unit were replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. The manufacturer was contacted on two occasions and informed that there was no time frame for the repair. The failure mileage was approximately 72,205.

RECALL ISSUED NOV 2024. PARTS STILL NOT AVAILABLE FROM MANUFACTURER BUT CAN ORDER THEM ONLINE FROM THIRD PARTY. ABS AND STABILITY CONTRPL LIGHT STAY ON CONTINUOUSLY, ALSO PREVENTS 4WD FROM WORKING AND CRUISE CONTROL. THIS IS A DAILY DRIVER FOR WORK AND IS A 7 YEAR OLD VEHICLE. WHY CAN WE NOT GET THIS FIXED. CANT GET A RESPONSE FROM MANUFACTURER.
Recall C4B/NHTSA 24V-896 Hydraulic Control Unit ABS. Continual tripping of the ABS warning resulting in loss of ABS, Cruise Control, Traction Control. Each trip give a warning and chiming resulting in nonstop alarms, noise and loss of the above features. It has been a year since the recall, over two years since the first class action and still no remedy to this safety issue. It is time for the NHTSA to sue and obtain a consent order from FCA similar to earlier FCA consent orders to repurchase these vehicles as they are currently unsafe to drive, there is no remedy in sight, and the resale value has plummeted as a result of this recall and lack of remedy.
Since the recall was announced, my truck has experienced constant ABS and traction control alarms, including an unending beeping warning chime that makes the vehicle unpleasant and unsafe to drive. My local Ram dealer confirms that the repair parts (HCU/ABS module) are not available and that there is no estimated time frame for replacement. This situation has now persisted for months, leaving me with: •A continuously beeping alarm while driving or idling, •A loss of confidence in braking and safety systems, •And a significant loss in resale value, since I cannot sell or trade the vehicle while this open safety recall remains unresolved. Impact This recall defect has made my vehicle effectively undriveable and unsellable. I have made multiple attempts to have it repaired, but the dealer and Stellantis representatives continue to tell me that parts remain on national backorder. As a result, I am deprived of the safe and normal use of my property. Under 49 U.S.C. § 30120, a manufacturer must provide a free and timely remedy for a safety defect. The ongoing delay and the lack of any interim solution (such as a loaner or disabling the alarm) clearly violate the spirit of this requirement and constitute a constructive deprivation of use. Requested Action I respectfully request that Stellantis: 1.Provide a functional remedy immediately (replacement HCU or equivalent). 2.If parts are still unavailable, provide a loaner vehicle, temporary compensation, or buyback option until the repair can be made. 3.Confirm in writing the expected date when replacement parts will be available for my VIN. I am filing a concurrent complaint with NHTSA to document this safety-related hardship and ongoing loss of vehicle use and value. Documentation Available upon request: •Copy of dealer service report indicating unavailable parts. •Photographs/videos showing active ABS and traction control alarms. •Records of my prior attempts to schedule service.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V896000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic); however, the part for the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, a warning chime sounded, followed by the "Service ABS" message being displayed on the instrument panel. Due to the failure, the cruise control feature failed to operate as needed. The dealer was notified of the failure and confirmed that the part for the repair was unavailable. The contact was then informed that the vehicle could be serviced out-of-pocket and that the contact could file a reimbursement claim once the parts for the recall repair became available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 109,000.

The ABS system continuously dings and the cruise control will not work and shuts itself off due to recalled defective part. Waiting for new recall part!!!!!!! Why was a recall issued with no part to fix??? Make them get their act together. This is dangerous and maddening to listen to constant bell ringing in the vehicle. Not to mention the possibility of an accident. This vehicle is my daily driver. I need the vehicle to be operational and safe.
Recall 24V-896, cannot be repaired, no repair timeline in site, vehicle is coding and dealership has confirmed code. Driving cruise will turn off and braking system becomes difficult and unstable. Warning systems come one. Dealership attempted to repair but manufacture advised they were not allowed to do so because it would not be permanent. Dealership has advised to park unit and contact Chrysler for buyback. We have called Chrysler customer care daily for 3 weeks with no success and no end in sight. The will not provide daily driver solution, vehicle replacement or repair fix. This is part of our daily driver to and from work and to and from farm to carry trailer with cattle. It is unsafe without proper braking system functioning and dealership has confirmed this and advised us to not operate. Chrysler has also advised us to not operate since it has coded but has offered no options. Dealership confirmed code on or about 8/22/2025

My HCU has failed and now I don't have anti-lock braking, electronic stability control, traction control, or cruise control. I have contacted Mopar and two Ram dealers in my area but they just tell me there is no remedy. This has been going on since December of 2024.
Brakes went out abs/traction control/tpms lights on. Brake pedal goes to floor 50% of the time. Have to downshift and use engine brake to stop.
Vehicle is subject to safety recall for malfunctioning HCU. Frequent illumination of Anti-Lock Break and Traction Control Warning Lights with accompanying Chime and loss of Cruise Control function. When illuminated, vehicle rear wheels will slip and braking is degraded. Illumination of Warning Lights and chime very distracting. FCA initially estimated repair parts available first quarter of 2025. This has passed and no updates are available from manufacturer. This is an unsafe condition.and I request NHTSA intercede on behalf of the 300,000+ owners affected and seek clarification from manufacturer on when they plan on honoring this recall.
Logging a second complaint for the brake hydraulic control unit that is already recognized by FCA as a defect that needs to be replaced. I am two years into this failed unit and continue to be told by the dealer and manufacturer's customer service that the replacement part is not available and they do not have a delivery date for this part. In the last two years I have had (4) near collisions as a result of no anti-lock brakes and no traction control. Additionally the cruise control is not active when this part fails and as a long-distance driver this is fatiguing. The contant dinging of the warning light and bell is extremely irritating. The reference number for FCA's recall is C4B/NHTSA 24V-896.
ABS INTERMITTENTLY ALARMS VERY FREQUENTLY AND CAUSES THE CRUISE CONTROL TO DROP OUT. I ASSUME THE ABS IS USELESS AND THIS TAKING PLACE. I’M TOLD THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM.
HCU has failed on my truck back in July of 2024 it was impossible to find a replacement part got a recall letter on November had abs track control, and cruise control loss repeated dinging sounds to service ABS and electronic brakes and most recently you can hear the brake pads slightly rubbing on rotors and can feel a little bit of resistance while driving down the road
Truck will not shift and drops out of drive leaving you helpless
August of 2023 I had my service electronic braking system, abs, and traction control light come on. Dealer diagnosed as bad hcu. As of today 2-4-25 I am still waiting on parts with no answer as to when parts will be available for the repair.
I am filing this complaint due to a GREAT safety concern with my vehicle. I am a law enforcement officer as well as a firefighter. I was notified that there was a safety recall on my vehicle. The recall was for the hydraulic control unit ("HCU"). One of the risks of said recall is the loss of ABS/ESC/Traction control may cause a vehicle crash without prior warning. After being notified about said recall, I notified several Ram Service locations in my area as well as the surrounding areas of where I reside. Each and every one of the service personnel or advisors I spoke with told me “there is not a remedy for the recall as of yet due to parts not being available.” When asked what I needed to do at that point, I was told to continue to drive my vehicle. Each dealership I spoke with stated they did not offer loaner vehicles, and did not know when parts would be available to fix said recall. That brings me to my complaint. On the morning of January 21, 2025 at approximately 05:47, I was driving my daughter to school then I was going to go to work there after. When I left my residence, I approached a stop sign to make a right turn. When I made the right turn, my front driver’s side wheel, locked up and pulled the vehicle hard to the left causing me to nearly strike a sheriff patrol officer and crash into a nearby residence. My daughter and I are severely shaken by this incident, and it could have been tremendously worse than it was. The Ram service departments should not be encouraging anyone to continue driving the vehicle models with this recall. It nearly killed my daughter and I. We have never experienced anything like this. This vehicle is not, and it has not been safe for operations for my family. Due to this incident I no longer have a drivable vehicle, and I still have to make the payments on said vehicle. I have looked into this problem and have found out there are two class action lawsuits in different states due to this problem. This is not a new issue.
I'VE BEEN OPERATING MY TRUCK SEVERAL TIMES NOW WHERE THE CRUISE CONTROL HAS WENT OFF OR DISENGAGED WHILE DRIVING, CAUSING A SLIGHT PANIC FROM NOT KNOWING WHAT WAS GOING ON IN THAT MOMENT. THIS HAS ALSO HAPPENED WHILE TOWING, WHICH MADE THINGS EVEN WORSE. MY CRUISE CONTROL IS NO LONGER WORKING AND NOW I AM DEALING WITH THE RECALL WHERE THERE IS A "REMEDY NOT YET AVAILABLE". THIS WOULD BE RECALL MANUFACTURER NUMBER C4B AND NHTSA RECALL NUMBER 24V-896. I BELIEVE THIS RECALL TO BE TIED IN WITH MY CRUISE CONTROL ISSUE. NOW I HAVE A TRUCK THAT I HAVE NO OTHER OPTION THAN TO OPERATE AS MY DAILY DRIVER; WITH NO CRUISE CONTROL, ABS/ECS/TRACTION CONRTOL. I'VE CONTACTED SEVERAL DEALERS TO SEE IF THEY HAD ANY INSIGHT AND I HAVE BEEN GIVEN THE SAME ANSWER ABOUT THERE NOT BEING A 'REMEDY'. I WANT IT TO BE KNOWN FOR LEGAL PURPOSES THAT I DO NOT FEEL SAFE OPERATING MY TRUCK AT THIS TIME BUT AGAIN I HAVE NO OTHER VEHICLE AT THIS TIME TO OPERATE. I HAVE AGAIN REQUESTED ASSISTANCE FROM SEVERAL DEALERS WHO HAV BEEN UNABLE TO HELP ME WITH THE RECALL LISTED ABOVE.
Hydraulic brake unit failure. yes part is still available for inspection as it is still n the vehicle. I was driving to work at 21:30 hours on 1/1/2025 on a snow covered road. I gently applied the brakes and my truck went into a spin. I was going 25 mph. the abs unit failed and there was no pulsating in the brake pedal and rear brakes locked up sending the truck into an uncontrollable spin. my front left driver side of the vehicle then struck the jersey barrier and vehicle did continue to spin and then struck passenger rear side of the vehicle on the jersey barrier. currently has $17k in damages to the vehicle. I was not injured at the time but currently experiencing lower back pain. there was no lights or warnings on dash until immediately after the collision. I had the ABS HBU replaced a few months back and was told the new unit was part of the old stock and would most likely fail. which it did. unfortunately i am one of the people in this world who could not afford to not drive my vehicle as the truck was $70k new and i still am currently driving it due to not being able to afford to replace it of park it and rent a vehicle. The HBU has been a known issue in these trucks for the passed year and they just issued a recall on 12/08/2024. this problem was first noticed on 05/08/2024. was taken to dealer shortly afterward and was told that these are known to fail and currently no remedy to the issue. as of 01/07/2025 there is still no remedy or time on when parts are available for replacement.
My abs control warning goes on and off and will not allow me to use cruise control and is constantly beeping at me.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated while driving 72 MPH with the cruise control set, the contact slammed on the brake pedal due to approaching a crash in the roadway and the front tires locked. The contact noticed that the front tires were worn down on 16 inches of the tire. The vehicle was vibrating while driving. The contact replaced the front passenger’s side tire. The cruise control was turning on and off independently. The ABS warning light was illuminated and making an abnormal dinging sound. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V896000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
Mileage: 90,000
My truck has 85000 miles on it. I have now experienced the ABS and traction control warning lights. They come on and off intermittently. The cruise control does not work when these lights are on. With all the complaints, its time Ram issues a fix under a recall.
My brakes locked up due to the abs pump not working.
Abs/hcu on the braking system has failed twice in the 3 years I've owned this truck.
The abs module has gave me issues and now has gone completely out causing no brakes and while it was having intermittent issues causes no cruise control and causes transmission issues which is another thing the transmission has went out again after this is the 3rd time replacing at around 10k everytime
in 2022 the abs and traction control lights began to come on together, leading to loss of ABS and traction control in addition to not being able to use the cruise control. Vehicle was taken to the dealer to be serviced and they stated they would replace the HCU but would not replace the ABS module as they would only address one thing at a time. The problem continues to persist with the constant alarm ding and loss of abs and traction control as the lights continue to flash on the dash. This is a safety issue as you don't know when you'll have abs or traction control and if it happens while driving with the cruise control on, it abruptly shuts down the cruise control.
The warning lights for my ABS and traction control come on and off while driving normal driving conditions. Every time they flash it also has an audible ding that is very distracting. If I am using the cruise control when this happens the cruise control will turn off. The ABS system does not work when the lights come on. I am afraid I will be unable to stop. I took it to a local dealer and they confirmed that the HCU unit is defective and needs to be replaced at a price of $1300.
While driving the service ABS System/ Traction control dash warning message appears on the screen & chimes at the same time. The cruise control then shuts off. At first it was intermittent then it was almost all the time. With winter coming soon the ABS/Traction control will be much needed. After going online, it seems like this is a common problem with 2017-2018 Rams. After going to a Ram dealer in my area they replaced the HCU/ABS pump. I feel that if this is a common problem it should be addressed with a recall to avoid potential vehicle control problems
Warning lights for ABS and traction control coming on with message to 'Service Electronic Braking System'. During this time the ABS does not work and cruise control stops working. Being a 2500 vehicle, it is commonly used for towing trailers as it has a towing capacity up to ~16K lbs. Suddenly not having ABS and traction control is dangerous. In July 2024 I was driving from Phoenix, AZ to East Texas with a ~10K lbs trailer and this issue suddenly started popping up. This is the first time I experienced this with this vehicle. I understand there is a known issue with the hydraulic control unit and the ABS modules for 2017-2018 2500 & 3500 models yet there has been no recall on these vehicles.
The ABS dash light and traction control light started coming on about a year ago. the light is intermittent with a ding sound. Some days it comes on non stop, sometimes it doesn’t come on at all. cruise control does not work, and “park rear” button is not able to get out of the off mode.
Driving on interstate highway with cruise control engaged. Experienced rapid deceleration as cruise control disengaged without driver input. Received anti-lock braking error / service electronic braking system error. Was very dangerous situation to have occur unexpectedly and could have easily resulted in rear end collision or loss of control of vehicle. Received no warning prior to this failure. Issue has been sporadic but occurring more frequently. Vehicle has less effective braking in adverse road conditions. Never know when the anti lock brake system will be functional. A bump or vibration in the road can cause it to engage or disengage. Ram dealer service dept indicates Hydraulic Control Unit needs to be replaced. Looking online, I see this is an exceptionally common occurence in same year/make vehicles. So much so that the replacement part is backordered for months.
It's clear that my abs module is bad but it consists of three components. Mopar online doesn't have any components available to fix the problem. And the Dealer is selling the components separately and telling you which one they will sell you first and also at a higher price than what's available to you online
ABS/traction control warning lights and alarm intermittently on and off during driving, speed control does not work during the alarm cycle. ABS not working when warning comes on
While driving the PU with my camper in tow, the ABS and Service electronic bakes system warning were displayed on my dash. Then they went out. This process repeated several times over the next 3-4 minutes. Then the warning lights came on and stayed on. It remained that way until I parked on the side of the road and turned off the vehicle. I checked the undercarriage for any signs of any visible damage to the braking system. None was readily identifiable. Upon restarting the vehicle, all warning lights were extinguished. I proceeded to the campgrounds with out further warnings on this system. The next day, with out the camper in tow, the warning lights were again active flashing on and off for a period of about 3-4 minutes before they again came on and stayed on. This process repeated itself as I would turn off the vehicle and then restart it. Upon parking for the evening they were still on. When I started again the next day, they were off.
ABS and TRACTION CONTROL warning lights appear and disappear. Timing of warning lights have no discernable pattern. Vehicle has had no collisions and only 120,000 miles. Vehicle will be going in for inspection at garage.
Abs module failure causing cruise control shutdowns and potentially causing an accident as well as transmission issues. Yes it’s been confirmed by an independent shop . Not by any others. No warning before just straight failure. Vehicle is available currently for inspection if wanted
Thai dang ABS going out in these trucks. And still no fix. Went out when going down the high way. Kicked out Cruze co trip 4 we and all sensors. Almost died this is crap that nothing is being done to fix this and get a part that fixes this for the customers that bought these trucks. I have a 50k truck I can’t drive. Have not driven it’s in almost a year now. SOMETHINGS NEEDS DONE
My ABS light came on and then shortly later I noticed that my stability control system was disabled and its warning light came on. I also lost the ability to use my cruise control. Took vehicle to the dealer and they determined that the ABS Control unit needed to be replaced. They trouble shot the issue and replaced the ABS Hydraulic Control unit. This repair is for the same recall as 85B for Ram 1500's.
Continually getting ABS warning and "Service electronic brake system soon" warning. Electronic Stability Control suddenly shuts off without warning to include cruise control if engaged. ABS and ESC lights remain on most of the time with constant chiming. This is a widely known problem. Recall just came out for later model years but not these.
The ABS warning light and alarm come on while driving. Loss of ABS and cruise control, near rear end collision by following vehicles on the freeway while using cruise control. Ram knows they have a problem with 2017 and 2018 2500 pickups. Why no recall? Safety problem!
Abs light and traction control warning light constantly coming on and off while driving and a warning sound playing every time the lights come on in the dash, which is very annoying and frustrating. The truck is under 30 000 miles and unfortunately is out of warranty. I don’t drive this truck very much and having this kind of problems with it is totally unacceptable.
Vehicle will display Service Electronic braking system randomly throughout driving the vehicle. The cruise control is not available when the code shows up. Also, the ABS and Traction Control lights pop up. The problem will shortly go away when I press the brakes all the way.
Vehicle has a control module failure causing the ABS, Traction Control, Cruise Control and other braking systems to intermittently turn off and on. The vehicle has been brought in for this issue and we have been told they are unable to get parts to replace the module at this time. This has been an ongoing issue for multiple years, with the failure occurring at a higher percentage of time the vehicle is driven now.
I bought my 2018 Ram Truck in 2019 new from a dealership. the first sign of a problem started at about 25,000 mi. It started sending tones with the message "Service Electronic Braking System" and "Service Antilock Brake System". It would toggle between these two messages and sound warning tones while the truck is in operation. The first shop I took it to replaced my carburetor. That was not it. I then took to a Diagnostic Shop and the message from the computer read: ABS pump motor control general electrical failure. On the dash it also shows the icon for slippery road conditions. Looking on the internet i realized that this is affecting 2017's and 2018's. There are a lot, maybe all of them being affected by this potentially dangerous malfunction.
Driving on cruise control the Anti-Lock brake light came on causing the cruise control to turn off at highway speeds. The anti-lock brake system, cruise control and traction control all quit working. Warning light went out and then all started working again. Very intermittent problem at first then started getting more frequent. After research I found it is a known problem on 2017 and 2018 ram pickups. The parts to fix it are revisions from the original and known bad but no service bulletins or recalls. There has been a recall for 2019 and later but Ram is not addressing the earlier problems.
Brake module malfunction kicks out cruise control and dings constantly. Seems to be a recall for other years but this year is missing?
Two issues with my truck. #1. The ABS HCU was replaced under warranty once. I am now at 75k miles and it is doing the same thing again. Difference is I'm having to pay for it. #2. The Clock Springs has been replaced once already and now needs it again. I paid the first time and am now having to pay again!!! Absolutely not acceptable!!!
ABS pump motor control and anti-lock brake hydraulic unit is out again. first time replaced at dealer on 12/27/2019 second time8/10/2022 and now ABS light flashing again for about 3 weeks now with code c0020-01. This should be a recall it is very dangerous to be hauling heavy equipment with this reoccurring problem approximately every 20,000 miles or so.
Code C0020-01 appears and ABS service light appears - the vehicle is equipped with a defective and dangerous hydraulic control unit (HCU) module and anti-lock braking system (ABS) module. Anti-lock braking, traction control and speed (cruise) control are inoperable. Causing a safety concern
The Service Anti-lock Braking System warning lights and audio alarms come on almost constantly at times along with the cruise control failing, a common problem I understand which Dodge Ram has to be aware of. This truck has only 7000 miles on it!
Abs module failure. Traction control failure Stability control failure. Module replaced by dealer once under warranty and failed a little over a year later. Dealer would not replace defective unit stating it was out of warranty.
My abs system is not working the ETC is not working was told this is because of the abs pump and abs computer. Most safety components related to brakes not working. There are over a thousand complaints to Chrysler about these trucks and still no recall. Please help.
The "Service Electronic Braking System" warning comes on and off intermittently with an annoying "DING" while driving. It never stays on and always just comes on, DING, and goes away but repeatedly. It will eventually go away after driving a bit but then comes back unexpectedly. This also disables the Cruise Control. There are tons of complaints throughout the RAM forums and I see a lot of complaints filed here on NHTSA. The dealer is obviously very aware of the problem as the replacement parts are not available except for months of waiting, if at all. The dealership has not only stated the part is a long lead item and on back-order but it will be $1200 to $1600 for replacement and that part may fail as well!
The abs control module and HCU are faulty . No parts have been available for a fix. I have now been driving a truck in the north with no ABS , 4 wheel drive, cruise control or traction control. This truck is a hazard to everyone on the road but with no parts it’s hard to fix it. I only have one vehicle. Tons of people have the same issue and nothing is being done. Ram won’t do anything, stallantis wont do anything. It’s just crazy
2018 Dodge 2500 w 75K miles. "Service ABS" and "Service Electronic Braking System" warning lights coming on intermittently for appx last 1.5K miles. When this happens, it disengages the cruise control when set, or keeps it from being engaged when unset . Noted yesterday that Braking performance is now lessened- slightly increased stopping distance noted when pulling an appx 3K lb trailer (no trailer brakes), which i regularly tow. Brake fluid levels good, brake shoes/calipers/rotors in very good shape.
Getting the Service Electronic Brake System, Traction Control, and Anti-lock Brake System. First noticed these alarms a couple years ago but they cleared by themselves. Sometime this 2024 Spring, around 70k miles these alarms started again. This time the alarms are nuisance going on and off multiple time a minute all by itself. Cruise control won’t work when alarms are on. When I checked forums, seems like there is a problem with these modules. The supply of the parts is a problem also. I ordered the parts from Mopar and after I paid for the parts and received an order number. The next day Mopar cancelled my order tell me to go to the dealer. Seems like Mopar is monopolizing these parts.
17427 miles 68143491aa control anti-lock brake system replaced 68347098ab module anti-lock brake system replaced code found c0021-01 replacement of the hcu and module. 12/30/2019 At 80,460 mi same code and information appeared again. 12/23/2022 No ABS brakes /no speed control continues currently 111,400 miles an indicator lights stay on.
C0020-01-ABS PUMP MOTOR CONTROL - GENERAL ELECTRICAL FAILURE
Abs light and traction control light continue to turn on and when they light up my cruise control stops working
My 2018 Ram 2500 has Service Electronic Breaking System and Service Antilock break System, along with the traction control light coming on and off intermittently and will stay on for days the cut off and back on and off. I had a close call when a vehicle slammed on breaks in front of me (who knows why, it could have been a small child in the road) as I pressed the break pedal my breaks locked up and almost slid into the opposite lane. Thankfully the condition where dry and I had just put new tires on the truck. I took the truck to the Ram dealership in Jacksonville NC, and was told the ABS/HCU PUMP HAS INTERNAL FAULT AND PUMP MOTOR FAILURE. The part was on national backorder with no ETA and have been asking for updates for what seems like over a year and the same answer; under investigation and still on back order.... my family and I are on a nerve racking (due to dinging and flashing lights on the dash) road trip from GA to NE. I almost forgot to mention we are unable to use the cruise control functions due to the ABS/HCU/Traction control issues.. I understand there may be a class action lawsuit for this year make and model... What will it take to get an actual recall on these issues? Serious injuries, death? This should fall under the Lemon Law Act. [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The systems in question are the ABS and Traction Control Systems on my 2018 Ram 2500 6.7L 4x4 Heavy Duty. This vehicle has had issues from the beginning with these systems as the first repair took place at 10,640 miles at the dealership it was purchased from. This took care of the codes/lights for a short period and was covered under warranty but the same issue persisted not too long after mileage-wise. The next time this issue occurred was when the truck had 22,628 miles, the brake fluid was flushed in an attempt to correct the ABS light but was unsuccessful. The truck was then brought to another repair shop to correct the same issue again where the ABS Hydraulic Module, ABS Control Module, and the brake fluid were replaced at 23,702 miles at the sole cost of the owner. As of early July 2024, at 45,000 miles the lights have again started intermittently coming on stating there is an issue with both the ABS and Traction Control Systems and must be serviced. After reading through multiple forums and speaking to other owners, this seems to be a common occurrence and needs to be looked into by the NHTSA due to major safety concerns. Although there were no accidents or police reports in this case, this malfunction poses a major safety hazard for the driver, passengers, and others on the road if a recall is not issued. There should be no reason a $60,000+ heavy duty premium truck consistently has these issues with no accountability and/or repercussions held to the FCA group. My personal concern is for my family as this is our primary vehicle and living where we commonly have inclement weather, if the ABS and Traction Control Systems fail randomly during a storm, this has a high potential to cause major injury or death to both our family and other drivers on the road. Not to mention the potential cost of collision damage to the vehicle(s) and/or other person's property.
ABS Pump failure: First occurrence July 18 2022. Mileage 24268 ABS pump replace under warranty by dealership. Second occurrence: July 23 2024 Mileage 45907 ABS pump not replaced as of yet, parts out of warranty by one week. OEM warranty out by 25 months. I am the original owner and this vehicle has been gently used and not abused. The ABS pump failure, two occasions, of a part which should be have a life expectance of 100,000 miles, minimum.. Two failures at less than 50K miles in my mind is not acceptable, especially with a safety related part. From the research I have done, additionally talking with other owners and dealership technicians, this is a common problem especially with the 2017 - 2018 year model vehicles. Something should be done to rectify this issue.
Anti lock brake module repetitively fails. First one replaced 7/2021 with 51,xxx miles. Second failed 7/2024 with 69,000 miles. Loses ABS system, cruise control, electronics affect electronic throttle and stabilitrack.
The hydraulic control unit (HCU) and the anti-lock braking system (ABS) module, not sure which one. They will only work intermittently or not at all; this causes the warning lights/chime to come on/off or just stay on. During this action the vehicle has no ABS or traction control, this is the Third time my vehicle has needing this part serviced with out-of-pocket cost as well as wait times for the part to actually arrive at the dealership.
ON AND OFF SERVICE ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL INDICATORS.
Abs system failed and had to brake hard causing the wheels to lock up and lose control of the truck ,lost speedometer, brake lights, 4x4,cc,trailer brakes
July 11, 2024 Message alert appeared indash with instructions to service ABS system. This vehicle experienced the exact same issue in April of 2022 and was taken to the dealer(Patterson Dodge-Tyler,TX) for repair, where the ABS Module was replaced. The replacement was not covered by the warranty.
The service electronic brake system warning light and chime along with the traction control and ABS warning lights and the cruise control fails to work. This occurs frequently. The code is C0020-01 ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) Pump Motor ControlGeneral Electrical Failure I believe.
ABS hydraulic pump failure, confirmed by Ram dealer. ABS light coming on and off affecting cruise control. Warning on dash says service ABS system. Truck only has 14350 miles No brake failures as of yet
Twice while going up a hill in the rain I was changing lanes and the cruise cut out causing the vehicle to slow down rapidly and kick out in the back. The cruise abruptly stops when the “service electronic braking system” and “service abs” lights and dinging come on. Apparently this also stops the traction control from working. Looking on the internet and forums, this is a very common issue. In fact, there is safety recalls on later model Rams with the same issue on the same parts. Why not the models that this started with?
The truck's warning lights indicate ABS module, HCU module, and cruise control failure. The trailer brake controller, ASB system, and cruise control does not function. The truck's warning lights and chime have been going on and off for over 2 years.
[XXX]. Location : somewhere in rural Pennsylvania. Incident ahead of me in heavy traffic. Applied brakes, more forcefully than usual. Immediately warning lights and audible alarm appeared on dash. “Service ABS system” . Was located in very rural area , no safe place to exit highway. At next exit , pulled off , brakes appeared to be functioning as normal. But dash warning lights proclaimed no ABS system and no traction control. Also lost function of cruise control and trailer brake control.. cautiously proceeded to destination. Relative had code reader - revealed code C0020-01 ABS Pump Motor Control. Investigation on internet revealed this is a very common problem among Ram 2500 trucks. Very expensive and not covered under warranty. I believe the NHTSA has received numerous reports from other Ram owners as to this problem. This situation is very unsafe with the loss of these very important safety features. Ram has refused to address this issue. I’m reporting this today in hopes that this agency dedicated to Safety will address this in a very timely manner. abs light and traction control light would come on intermittently while driving then stayed on causing cruise control to not work. been happening for over a year
Hydraulic cont module/ abs module is constantly going in and out causing the abs/traction control to be disabled and non functional cruise control. Highly unsafe when towing heavy like I do most of the time.
Vehicle keeps getting ABS control valve general power fault. Code scanned is C002001. Indications in vehicle are 1. Cruise control suddenly disengages if in use. 2. Instrument warnings of "ABS Control Failure" and "Electronic Braking System Failure" continue flashing for 10 seconds or sometimes constantly. Keeps happening to me on long trips away from home. Never locally. Gives the driver no idea if system is safe to drive or not. RAM forums on line are full of these complaints. I believe a recall is in order.
2018 Ram 2500 diesel truck, ABS braking system was intermittent and now has stopped working all together affecting the cruise control and the ability to stop without locking up the brakes all together. This has started a couple of years ago and the dealer said everyone is having the problem and parts are hard to get.
Purchased vehicle new. ABS and TC lights presented on dash intermittent. Cruise control inoperative when lights on. Had issue under warranty and had components replaced to resolve issue and now happening again. Afraid to have family in vehicle with inoperative safety systems.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated while driving 60 MPH with the Cruise Control feature activated, the Cruise Control feature deactivated independently, and the ABS warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the ABS control module. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer, who confirmed the diagnosis. The vehicle was not repaired because the part was not available. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
Service anti-lock brakes and service eclectic brake message and lights for ABS and Traction control lights flash on and off at random time for no reason. When this happens the cruise control also stops working.
Randomly my abs, traction control and service ebs light came on driving down road. Currently don't have abs, cruise control or traction control. Know problem that won't get recalled with ram. Faulty hcu and abs module..
ABS and traction lights have started staying on and when on the cruise system does not work
Abs light comes on all the time and cruise control goes out and go 50 miles and the abs and brake service lights comes on 67 times
ABS system went out in my truck, according to the internet you have getting LOTS of complaints about this issue, anything happening?
ON 3/21/2024 while traveling HCU/ABS Control module failed prompting intermittent dash lights and disabling ABS/TCS and Cruise Control. This was the first time this occurred and came without warning creating a very dangerous situation. As a result, hile traveling down the interstate during a rain event the truck lost traction at high speed (65mph in 70mph zone). This was instantaneous under medium throttle when the ABS/HCU ABS module suddenly disengaged allowing wheel spin on wet pavement. This caused the truck to briefly turn sideways on the freeway until intervened by myself the driver. This could have been very dangerous as there were numerous other vehicles in lanes on either side. No collision resulted. The vehicle has good tires and is in good condition outside of this failure. Upon investigation, I have found this to be very common on these trucks yrs 17-18. When I called the manufacturer they stated they are back ordered as it is a common failure and frequently require replacement.
Abs comes and goes most of the time it doesn’t work had the issue for over a year when it’s not working no cruise control. I had rydell deal ship look at it and said it’s either the module or the pump.
Started experiencing the ABS and Traction Control lights coming on, sometimes momentarily and very intermittently, sometimes (but less frequently) coming on for long periods of time. The frequency of these events has been increasing. A scan of the vehicle indicates I am receiving these this code... C0020-01 - ABS Pump Motor Control - General Electrical Failure This seems to be a very common complaint on my truck's make, model, and year. The result is I lose cruise control functionality, four-wheel drive, and seemingly the use of anti-lock breaks and traction control. It is very irritating as the warning lights and alarms often go on-off many times a minute, often going on for hours.
Starting at about 28,000 miles the ABS & Traction Control lights would come on, Disabling the Anti-lock braking system. During slick road conditions the truck would often skid when braking, especially when towing. The anti-lock brakes didn't work. This also triggered the check Engine light, Disabling the Cruise Control. All of this would occur randomly and often with no pattern. Prior to reaching 36,000 miles on the odometer, I went to Andy Mohr Chrysler Dodge Jeep for diagnostics. Service Department reported a code for internal ABS Module Failure. I then returned to the Dealership at 39,249 miles on [XXX] for recall on drag link replacement in steering and for repair of traction control system. Steering system was repaired but parts were on national back-order for ABS Repair. They delivered truck on [XXX] but kept repair order open with no charge at that time. Received call from dealership saying parts had arrived for ABS system for repair on [XXX]. Repairs were completed and I picked truck up on [XXX]. The invoice total was $1862.27, as they had charged for the steering recall also. After a month of back and forth with the service department and then speaking to the General Manager, they refunded $187.31 on 3/4/2024 meaning the ABS repair was $1674.96. I'm still unsure if that is the correct amount. Repair order # [XXX]. Truck is now working properly when braking. When taking off initially with the truck sometimes within the first 30 seconds of moving there is two yellow lights that come on the dash, while the center text window displays service brake system. The stored MIL code is C0020-01. Also when going over bumps in the road the message will also return. Sometimes it stays on, and I do not have the ability to use cruise control. One time I was driving on the freeway and the surface was wet, as it had been raining. I needed to slow down rapidly because there was a sudden change in traffic. I went to hit the brakes and the truck had locked up the wheels, and then after the same lights and text were displayed.
The ABS/EBS errors lights comes on and cruise control won't work. Did some research online seems like a common problem. Hoping to see a recall by Ram.
The anti-lock braking system, traction control and speed control system continue to flash on and off. While driving here in Huntsville, Alabama it snowed and my braking system failed causing me to nearly crash.
My 2018 RAM 2500 has 30,176 miles on it. Two years ago the HCU and module controlling the ABS system failed and was replaced. When the system fails numerous lights and warning chimes activate and the cruise control stops working. The system has failed again and the dealer tells me it will take 45+ days to get the parts necessary to repair the ABS system. After researching online I discovered an open class action lawsuit against FCA for this problem. I also discovered that this is a common problem with 2500 and 3500 RAM trucks after reading owner forum sites but so far no recall has been issued by NTHSA. This is a major safety issue for owners and needs to be fixed.
The ABS controller on my truck has gone out for the second time. where do i take it to get RAM to fix this issue this? i paid out of pocket for this repair the first time. please advise.
My ABS and Traction Control lights go on and off while driving. It happens at different times and all different speeds.
Loss of power/turbo. I was hauling a heavy load when I had a loss of turbo power on highway. Causing my truck to loose mph up a hill and almost getting struck by a semi vdd into my trailer. Check engine light is on and turbo don’t kick on anymore. I haven’t had the money to fix the problem but I’m certain it’s the turbo/turbo actuator.
My truck has right at 80,000 miles. Every so often I get two dash lights. One is ABS service and anti skid warning. They randomly show up. They pop up very quickly then go away. But it happens non stop. I have done some research and it seems that there is thousands of people with the same truck and year model with this same issue. I went to the dealer in Seguin, Tx and they told me that there was really nothing I could do to fix the issue, unless I wanted to wait eight months. But the new part rarely last. They flat out told me to not follow any one too close because hard braking could fail without anti skid working properly. RAM needs to make this right. I can’t believe that there has been this many people complain about a serious safety concern and nothing has been done.
The Antilock and Tracktion controll lights come on and off with a chime while driving. It also disables my Cruse Controll when it goes off.
Over the last several months my 2018 Ram 2500 is experiencing intermittent service abs traction control system issue. The lights on the dashboard will go on and off and it will "ding" when it does. I am very concerned from a safety stand point as I know this system is supposed to help with braking in an emergency and assist with keeping the vehicle under control in adverse road conditions. The truck only has 35,700 miles on it now. I have taken it to the dealership and they are not able to read any trouble codes. Thank you for any assistance with getting this corrected. Ram needs to recall this issue as I have done some research and have found this to be a very common problem with this year make and model vehicle.
The vehicle has lost all antilock brakes Lights on dash warn there is a issue with vehicle safety capabilities. The trailer brakes will not activate. Dealer says common issues with 2017 2018 and cannot fix due to parts not available for a year. People are putting their lives in danger operating this truck with this issue. I have had work on this problem before costing thousands of dollars. I can't belive you let them effectively shun safety and lives.
The ABS light continuously comes on and off, especially when hitting a bump or going down a gravel road. Traction control light and ABS light will come on and off which ultimately causes a lack of control when roads are icy or wet. It's especially dangerous while in tow.
Service abs system and traction control
The abs system failed and caused the cruise control to not function as well as the trailer brakes not operating. It has been inspected by a certified ram dealership in Corscanna, Tx and confirmed that the abs system is out. The abs warning lights comes on and off, on a 30 mile trip it will come on and off 15 or 20 times. This started in May of 2023 on a planned trip of 330 miles pulling a 10,000 pound Rv. The Ram dealer told me the parts would be in in August of 2023, and then in Oct of 2023 and then Jan of 2024, and now April 2024. The dealer tells me it will cost $1600.00 to repair it. I have warranty but no one can get the parts. Thanks
Service Antilock Brake System Service Electronic Braking System Illuminated warning lamps. Impacts Braking and cruise control. Started 10/2022, and appears to trigger randomly and frequently.
1 abs warning light and buzzer come on every 2 mile which is a distraction 2 if warning does stay off for 5 miles and speed control is set will work but when warning goes off speed control kicks off causing traffic flow problems almost got hit from rear got honked at and finger 3 been waiting for over a year for part dealer says it is not available 4 called dodge ram phone number for complaints got nowhere
The truck flashes service antilock brake system, service eletronic brake system. It cancels the cruise control on truck. On several occassions it shuts off cruise while on the interstate. You have to react very quickly to avoid having an accident. A couple of times its happened while pulling a travel trailer and nearly got rear ended by semi truck. Thats really scarey. It started about 8 months ago. Have contacted dealer and was told by service department that they know of about 2000 trucks has same issue. The parts are out of stock and back ordered. I think this is a real safty issue. Dont know what to do about this.
Hcu, hydraulic control unit, no abs, no traction control, no cruise, no 4x4 and emergency brake light on won’t go off and part is not available been waiting for over a year and a half
abs lite comes on. service electronic braking system message. cruise will not work when fault is active. second time for this. fixed first time under warranty. truck only has 60k miles.
The anti lock brake system has failed on my 2018 Ram 2500. This has been confirmed by the dealer as well as an independent shop. First case was hauling a trailer full of wood, a car pulled out in front of me, I slammed the brake and the anti skid failed, brakes locked up. The only reason I didn’t completely lose control is my trailer brakes worked and stopped the swerve. Since that day the ABS light has been intermittent and is becoming more consistent. Because the light is intermittent the other symptoms are intermittent to include cruise control and the most critical; traction control. This problem caused me to lose control on black ice in Hastings MI about a month ago and swerve into oncoming traffic. No accident resulted. This is a known problem on this truck and there is a technical service bulletin published as well as a class action law suit. Because of this myself, as well as other owners, are reluctant to pay thousands to fix it because we are awaiting action from your office to drive a recall. I recommend action to implement a recall before someone is killed due to this faulty system. ABS light is illuminated as well as Service Anti Lock Brake System Message. Systems lost are anti lock brakes, traction control, cruise control.
Abs/traction control lights keep pooping up on the dash. The dealer has changed the abs module and it didn’t last long. The truck has 28k miles. It definitely can cause an accident because I haul heavy loads a lot. If the abs brakes doesn’t work correctly I will crash into another vehicle. And it dings/ beeps every time I push the brakes or every time I hit a bump or something. I hope Ram can come up with a recall to fix this issue soon. The contact stated he fixed the ABS issue on the 2018 Ram 2500.
ABS and Traction Control light on . This cancels out cruise control also. Vehicle was repaired at 23562 miles and is out again at 32000 miles. I have been on dealers waiting list for over a month. The part used for the repair must have been defective also. W11aiting time for the repair is entirely too long. Antilock brakes are a safety concern and should be quickly fixed.
The truck developed a warning light for ABS / Stabilitrak needing to be serviced. Ram dealership replaced an ABS Pump, but the issue came right back. They are now saying it needs a new control module at great expense, but that they are unavailable currently. Delivery on the part has been pushed back continuously over the last 12 months, still no parts. This issue causes a regular intermittent digging and warning light in the cab, disables ABS, disables Stability Control, Disables Traction Control, and Disables Speed Control (Cruise Control). This issue has been ongoing for 8+ months at this time with no developments from Ram and the vehicle in an unsafe and compromised condition.
Service anti lock braking system and electronic brake system code constantly coming on. This is an apparent safety issue that Dodge needs to resolve. After much research, I’ve discovered that there are many, many complaints of 2018 Ram truck owners having the same problems. Thanks for all your assistance.
Electronic Braking system failure affecting the ABS system, Traction control, and cruise control. It puts the safety of everyone in the vehicle and on the road at risk because the ABS and cruise control will fail causing an unexpected adverse conditional that can lead to an accident. This is a known problem for RAM and their is no fix at this time other than making the customer pay out of pocket for the broken parts to be replaced with the same parts that will fail shortly after. There needs to be a recall and a permanent fix from RAM
Service Antilock Braking System and Service Electronic Brake System will begin to constantly flash on the dash. It would display the ABS light and the Traction Control light. At this time it would also turn off cruise control while traveling down the highway. I purchased the truck with 62,000 miles on it on 12/28/2023 and the issue occurred on the way home and ever since. Since I was not aware of this issue, the truck slowed down and I was almost hit. I had to pull off the road to figure out what was going on.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the ABS and traction control warning lights activated along with an audible alarm. The contact stated that during the failure, the cruise control feature was inoperable. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 42,500.
Mileage: 42,500
ABS and traction control warning lights intermittently. Loss of cruise control. This appears to be a known problem with an expensive repair.
Service electronic brake systems, service anti-lock brakes. replaced under warranty and now the light comes on intermittently. Obvious problem with the Ram trucks
Antilock braking and traction control system failed. I was driving on a snow/ice covered road and hit the brakes with no anti lock control and truck slid in road side ditch. Truck has not been repaired. This is a known problem that Dodge is well aware of. This could have caused serious injury or death under alternate driving situation or heavy traffic. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
ABS and Traction control lights keep going on and off, this still continues and it looks like Ram knows this is a safety issue. Dealers have no parts for repairs
The ABS and traction control has a fault that’s turns off the abs system. It’s been troubleshot to the HCU pump. There are several ram trucks with this issue. Fault code is. C0020-01 ABS pump motor control
Constantly throwing ABS code and electronic braking system code, and then, turning off the alerts on dashboard. Many complaints of 2018 models were found online and a class action lawsuit.
ABS Brake system failure. Multiple reports of ‘17-‘18 yr models with exact problems.
My truck has an intermittent ABS light along with a traction control light and a message displaying Service antilock brake system and service electronic brake system. these lights also sometimes stay on until the next ignition cycle or even several ignition cycles. it also disables the cruise control as well causing an extreme loss of speed on the highway especially when traveling up steep grades. there were no issues leading to the cause of the lights to come on to my knowledge and i have not visited any sort of dealership or service center regarding this issue nor do i have the time or funds to correct this issue at this time.
The Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and the Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) issue is present on my vehicle. The problem is intermittent and occurrences cannot be predicted, duration fault varies, sometimes repeatedly cycling fault/no fault/fault etc. When the fault occurs cruise control is either canceled (if active) or not available. Occurs at varios speeds. Please refer to NHTSA's open investigation (NHTSA Action Number: PE22012).
ABS and Stability unit has failed, vehicle has 26160 miles . Dealer and manufacturer know of defect and refuses to provide any fix. This is a serious safety problem, and vehicle is unable to be used .
Hcu system failed now trucks and system is messed up, can’t use cruise control and nervous too drive the truck for safety reasons. Dealer says it could be months for a new system
The ABS module is defective on my truck which controls the antilock brakes, Anti slip function, and the cruise control. Dealer ship has diagnosed problem and ordered parts but the parts have been on back order for quite sometime with no ETA from RAM when parts will be available. My dealer ship says they currently are wating on 25 parts for different vehicles with same problem.
ABS/Traction Control warning alarm constantly going off, and affecting cruise control.
I'm just reporting the failure of my HRU as many RAM owners have experienced. The dealer ship replaced the part with the new model. When this fails it happened at highway speeds disabling the cruise control while towing a trailer. Becuase of busy traffic and under heavy weight when the truck fell on its face. I was almost rear-ended due to the sudden loss of speed. Very dangerous when towing.
The abs light blinks and sounder beeps on and off intermittently while driving and the cruise control does not stay functioning when this occurs.
The "Check Antilock Brake" message appears on the dashboard. The vehicle has been inspected by a mechanic who confirmed that it is either the supplementary brake fluid pump, or the brake pump control unit. Because of the intermittent nature of the problem, the manufacturer requires replacement of both expensive parts, as they do not know the exact problem. Because of the issue, the following vehicle features do not function: * anti-lock brake system * electronic stability control / traction control * cruise control * the holding of the rear brake on a hill until the operator accelerates (important in a standard transmission truck used for towing)
Originally I started feeling like my brakes weren't stopping as well as they had been. The pedal seemed to feel soft and have further travel than normal. I recently had my brakes inspected by a certified mechanic, so I was confident it wasn't the actual brake pads, rotors, or calipers. After a day of this I started getting intermittent ABS system and traction control lights. About a day or two later the lights became more frequent until they eventually stayed on. During that time I was out of town while pulling my fifth wheel camper, so I wasn't in a good position to get the truck to a mechanic. Needless to say I felt my situation was becoming unsafe. Once I returned home I got the truck in to my mechanic and his troubleshooting led to a faulty ABS module and Hydraulic Control Unit. This was a very expensive repair. Once I was told what the diagnosis was I started to research this issue online. This is when I discovered that others were having this same issue and that the NHTSA had already opened up an investigation into this.
Abs light and traction control light will flash and beep intermittently when driving have researched a lot of people have the same issue newer models have been recalled for the same problem.
The ABS and Traction Control lights flash and ding on/off intermittently. Sometimes the lights on the dashboard come on as soon as I leave the driveway and sometimes it takes several miles. But once they flash on and ding on the dashboard, the lights flash on and off intermittently for seemingly no reason at all. I am not sure if this is due to an electrical issue, a hydraulic control unit issue, or something else, but something is not right, making the lights and dashboard flash/ding a lot.
The ABS and Traction control lamp keep flashing on and off intermittently. When those warning lights are not lit up, I can use the truck normally. However when they do light up cruise control no longer functions. I have not tested if ABS or Traction Control is not functioning, but I am not going to take a chance. This endangered my family, and surrounding drivers as I was towing our trailer on the freeway and had set the cruise control. In the middle of the drive, the warning lights came on, and the cruise control turned off by itself. At the time we were climbing up a grade, so the truck slowed down rapidly. The Semi-Truck behind almost crashed into me as I tried to determine if I had an engine failure, and deciding if I had to pull over. They honked at me repeatedly. I determined that it was not an engine failure and I could increase speed. By then the truck was below 30 mph. I may have caused more catastrophic issues behind me but, I could not see past the 5th truck behind me. My wife was screaming at me to pull over, and was upset that the vehicle was not working. It works, but the brakes are not dependable for ABS, and cruise control is not dependable. I drove the vehicle several times since and the issue keeps occurring. I have not taken it to a dealership, and do not drive the vehicle anymore at this point. The vehicle has not been inspected as that would require driving it to be inspected. The ABS and Traction Control warning lamps started to illuminate around November of 2022. That was the only indication that something was wrong. I was going to take it to the dealership but it is out of warranty. It drives fine otherwise when the lamp is lit, and it does goes on and off with a dinging sound, but I could not tell that anything was not working. It was not until the incident with the cruise control that I realized it impacted the ability for the cruise control, and that it would turn it off when I am using it. It is completely random.
ABS electronic braking system failure.
While driving with cruise control activated the Service ABS light came on and made an audible ding and the cruise control deactivated resulting in a loss of speed traveling along an interstate highway. This has happened several times, and no time frame to get fixed.
Traction control and abs warning lights flash on and off intermittently also cruise control not working when this happens. It is sporadic
The truck randomly started flashing service electrical anti skid braking system. It will go on and off randomly and other times stay on all the time. It will not allow cruise control to work and I’m guess my ABS will not work either if I need it. I bought the truck with 132K miles on it and the light starting coming on at 134K miles. I don’t want to possibly injury others or myself is the ABS does not work. I took it to the dealership and the light went out and they couldn’t see any codes. The light is back and almost always on. Going to take it back to the dealership. To see if they know what is wrong since this is a known issue with most Ram trucks.
Twice the ABS hydraulic control unit has become faulty and no unavailability of parts. The “issued warning” from Chrysler corp is be weary as the truck no longer has cruise control, 4 wheel drive, and a warning light and audible alarm that comes and goes to on/off every two to three seconds causing an immense amount of mental irritation while driving. This vehicle has been looked at twice by dealerships have diagnosed and also charged me every time to hook up to their diagnoses (around 200$). I have called RAM cares who is nothing more the a shell of the company to appear as though they care but of are little to no help. So recap, I have a ($60,000) truck that is the equivalent of a base model s10 ($15,000)(basic model truck) because one part has made it impossible to use the truck in its fully designed capacity. No four wheel drive, no cruise control, and a dinging and flashing light that happens every 2 seconds and a message that say service electronic braking system. I would upload a video but you can literally google “HCU ram 2500 problem” and a slew of videos will pop up. Maybe someone at either this organization or Chrysler will actually care and start holding people responsible for this problem and issuing a [XXX] fix. ABS light and traction control warning on dash. Truck has been in shop previously for the same issue. This causes my truck to lose cruise control at highway speeds and to not have traction control capabilities when driving on wet roads. I will be taking the truck back in to the shop this week as this is occurring at all times and does not stop dinging.
Had brake module replaced under warranty at the dealer and less than 10k miles later it’s doing the exact same thing again. Abs is not working, alarm constantly chiming while driving and abs and electronic brake malfunction lights coming on in the dash. Truck still has less than 48,000 miles on it cause I’m scared for my family’s safety so we just don’t drive it anymore. Is a shame we have a truck we can’t use that we have paid for for this long and still can’t use due to a safety concern that the dealer won’t repair again cause the time limit has expired on the parts warranty.
Service abs system immediately popped up on information screen, also abs and traction control lights all at the same time. This disengages cruise control and removes digital speed reading. Almost got tailgated.
The ABS and HCU are bad in my vehicle. It appears to be a widespread issue with this year model. A recall should be issued by the manufacturer to correct this safety issue. I recently collided with a barrier wall because my ABS system was not functional.
During normal operation the ABS, Traction control and electronic braking system warning lights came on. Now when i am driving the Service electronic braking system lights will come on and off intermittently. Some times if i hit a bump it will come on briefly. My cruise control does not work and from what I've read my 4 wheel drive may not work. I live in the snow belt and use this truck as primary transportation as well as plowing snow and for our business. Im told this can be a brake module. I only have 40000 miles on my 2018 ram big horn. should not be having these safety problems.
While normal driving of my 2018 Ram 2500, I began to get random audible warnings, service anti-lock brake and service traction control system dash lights. The lights would flicker on and off and warning chime would 'bing" numerous times. This caused the cruise control to shut off while doing 65mph. Some drives I would get nothing, others would be a solid 5 minutes of flashing and chiming. Scan tool identified the C0020-01 DTC. ABS pump motor control general electrical failure. Appointment was made at local RAM dealer and I was told that the parts are unavailable and on national backorder. I am now uncertain driving the truck as I do not know if the brakes could go out randomly or fail completely. Upon researching this fault, it seems to be a very common issue with the 2018 Ram trucks.
Anti-lock brake / traction control lights come with audible chime. Message reads service anti-lock brakes and service electronic brakes. Problem is intermittent with light coming on for a duration then going out and clearing message center. At times, the warning lights turn on and off rapidly giving multiple audible tones. Activation of light causes deactivation of cruise control. At highway speeds - rapid deceleration occurs. Unknown if the anti-lock brake or traction control will function while light is on. This will be the second time this issue has occurred. First time repair was covered under warranty for same issue. Diagnostic’s performed at authorized Ram dealer (10/27/2023) (Approx. 48500 mile's) indicates issue with Anti-lock brake control and Anti-lock brake module. Remedy - replace defective parts with: 68143491AB Control: Anti-Lock Brake 68347098AB Module: Anti-lock brake Total cost to repair: 1478.25 Dealer states that no factory warranty on this repair. Parts not available until February 21st 2024
ABS Control Module causing ABS light to come on, consistent audio warning, and disengages Cruise Control function. Currently being diagnosed by Dodge dealer the ABS Module and Hydraulic Control Units failing internally. Initially it was very seldom, and now is constant.
Service ABS light comes off and on sporadically. This is a known problem through out the country and needs to be addressed by a recall.
ABS light and traction control light comes on all the time and when lights comes on curse control stop working, by lights coming on all the times don't feel safe to drive truck.
The hydraulic control unit for the antilock braking system failed, causing a repeated dinging and loss of all antilock, breaking traction control, and cruise control capabilities. Dealership quotes parts are almost a year out, and I will be stuck driving the vehicle in an unsafe manner until it is repaired.
Intermittent ABS and traction control lights. Service lights come on and go off when braking or driving over bumps. Code C0020 - ABS Pump Motor Control General Electric Failure. Issue is so random I haven’t taken the truck to a service center.
I keep getting warning lights for ABS problems. Saw there was recalls for the 2019-2022 and saw there was a class action law suit for the 2018 models.
The truck started intermittently throwing code for C0020-01 (service Antilock Brake system). I will intermittently lose ABS/Cruise/trailer brakes, and being the primary vehicle in our family, the truck has become unsafe to transport my wife and 7 months old child. I've aware the HCU/ABS module both need replaced, but some of these parts aren't available from the dealer, and it will be multiple thousand dollars to repair IF they ever get the parts in. This is a known, very dangerous, safety issue that FCA need to address.
Continued failure of hydraulic control unit (HCU) and Anti-lock brake system (ABS) module causing fluctuations in brakes at times (have to press harder on brakes) and lights go on and off, sometimes staying on for lengthy periods (usually on highway) or while driving and disables the cruise control. Second time in just under 3 years (fixed in Nov 2020 and reported to dealer Sept 2023), same issue on parts both time, fix identified as faulty HCU and ABS module as dealer identified issue and placed order for parts (5 month backorder to Feb 2024 as apparently very common issue with these trucks). The issue is both the change in brake sensitivity due to this part failure and the sudden cancellation of cruise control, the braking impacts the braking performance and cruise control drop out causing sudden drop in speed on highways.
ABS service warning and Traction control light shows intrmittently and disapears Planning to take to dealer
The ABS pump has failed for the second time, my vehicle has less than 80000 miles on it. The first replacement was covered under factory warranty. I have researched this issue and have found this to be a common issue and at this time the factory is not issuing a recall. Dodge/Ram is well aware of this issue and the repair should be covered as a factory defect.
Whenever it rains or is high humidity, my dashboard lights up and repeatedly chimes with ABS lights and Electronic Braking System error. The error repeats itself on and off again every few seconds. It is a dangerous distraction of error messages. Since it is raining, all traction control and ABS systems deactivate themselves with this error. I spun out this morning due to the error. It is absolutely dangerous. This is the EXACT error that occurred on my previous Ram. This is a dangerous faulty hydraulic control unit (and ABS system). Upon a little research, I found tens of thousands of posts of owners being stranded or driving without ABS / traction control due to this malfunction. This is deadly and needs to be recalled. RAM is aware of this issue but has not issued a recall. It is raining today, and my RAM will not have traction control or ABS. This is unacceptable. This is affecting tens of thousands of owners. With upwards of $1,600 for a repair. Yet, the part can create a fault AGAIN within weeks or months. DANGEROUS.
Hydralic control unit is bad causing on dash safety alert for service electronic brake system alert and anti lock brake system alert. When towing will not have brakes to assist in stopping tow vehicle. The alarm constantly going off distract your attention from the road. Upon going to the dealer for repairs I was told they are on national back order and may not be available until after the 1st of the year. It apparently a widespread issue with all 2017 and 2018 Ram 2500s. I am unable to tow my 38' 5th wheel camper for fear I will lose my brakes on the tow vehicle putting myself and others at risk. The anti lock brakes not functioning properly could result in losing control of the vehicle when road conditions are wet or slippery. This loss of traction put me and other motorist at risk. Ram know there is a problem with the HCU. My understanding is they have had to completely re-engineer the part and as such has created an availability problem for anyone owning these vehicles. There are several blogs and forums online describing this as well as a class action suit initiated by the state of California. Would appreciate you looking into this matter and getting Ram to do the right thing. Thank You
I am experiencing intermittent warning by dash red light, warning dings & digital warning. Check brake system. The issue seems to be increasing in frequency as the last time I used the vehicle-it dinged every few miles. I understand that the ABS & TSC systems are inactive when warning displays. I called my local dealer to have vehicle inspected/ repaired and was told to come in for diagnosis but the parts for suspected failure are not currently available. I am in an area with rain expected for several days and am concerned with driving under these conditions.
The ABS control pump motor is malfunctioning causing loss of the anti lock braking, four wheel drive, and cruise control. The dealerships have no ability to get parts to repair and they have been on back order indefinitely.
IN 2020 MY ABS CLONTROL MODULE FAILED AT ABOUT 20000 MILES. I HAD IT REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY WITH NO ISSUES. IN MAY OF THIS YEAR (2023) IT STARTED FLASHING ON AND OFF WHILE DRIVING AGAIN. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME IT NEEDED REPLACING AGAIN BUT THEY DO NOT HAVE AND CANNOT GET THE PART. IT HAS GOTTEN WORSE AND WORSE. I CAN TELL IT IS AFFECTING MY BRAKES ALONG WITH I CANNOT USE MY CRUISE CONTROL. I HAVE BEEN BACK MULTIPLE TIMES TO CHECK WITH THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY TELL ME THE PART IS BACK ORDERED. LAST TIME I WAS THERE IN SEPTEMBER THEY TOLD ME IT WOULD BE FEBRUARY OF NEXT YEAR AND THAT IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER POWER TRAIN WARRANTY SO I WILL HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR SOMETHING THEY HAVE ALREADY REPLACED ONCE FOR SAME ISSUE.. THE BRAKE LIGHT, TRACTION CONTROL LAMP, AND ABS LAMP ALL FLASH ON AND OFF CONSTANTLY WHILE DRIVING
My Anti Lock Brakes, Traction control and power steering have gone out repeatedly on this vehicle. The ABS pump HCU unit has failed at 8,433 miles. The same thing failed again at 12,924 miles. As of this complaint the same thing has failed again at 20,000 miles. I have not had it repaired because Ram will not guarantee the new part they put in is not defective, like the original part and the 2 other replacement ABS pump they installed which have failed. I don't drive my this truck that much because without the abs for which the break system on the truck was designed for I feel like it is a danger to myself and others.
My abs brake light goes on and off cruise control just stops in the middle of the highway. I was almost hit by an eight wheeler while commuting because of it. I loose traction driving on wet roads. I have taken it to the dealership more than twice to fix the problem. So solution in sight.
Anti Lock brake system and service electronic brake system message keeps going on & off every 30 seconds & will shut down cruise control if it is engaged. Happened in 10/11/2021 & now 10/8/ 2023.
This is the second complaint filed for the same issue. Tracking number 11441949. I understand there is an investigation open for this issue. PE 22-012. Opened 11/28/22. My truck was repaired under warranty December of 2021 It has failed again in September of 2023. after less than 2 years and 20,000 miles. The ABS/Traction control system as well as cruise control unexpectedly without warning stops working. Since I use my truck to tow heavy trailers this is not a very good scenario. The alarm and warning on the dash at times repeatedly and randomly sounds while driving. When this occurs I have no ABS function, or hill decent control. The Hydraulic Control Unit Part #68143491aa is the part that failed and was replaced under warranty. It has since been obsoleted by Ram and replaced by a different part #. Was this because they knew they had a problem? At any rate, I am left to pay to have this fixed again and worry about when it might fail the next time.
the abs module and the hydraulic pump have a issue that turns on the abs and light and turns off the cruise control and reverts to non abs braking due to faulty module and pump assembly that was changed already and now the wont cover this under any warrenty known faulty part
ABS and Traction control light come on intermittently causing cruise control to kick out and not work. Also causes an alarm to ding over and over. This is a known problem with the Ram HD for this year.
ABS/Trac lights ding constantly with the dash displaying "service electronic stability" or something along those lines. ABS system becomes inoperable as well as kicking your cruise control off. Very unsafe and parts are not available for repair as well as Ram not taking recall action up to this point.
2018 Ram 2500. Trouble code for service electronic brake system, traction control deactivation, cruise control deactivation, ABS deactivation occurs at all speeds and all surfaces intermittently and the trouble code will activate and deactivate for up to approximately 45 minutes continuously . Ram certified dealership service departments in 2 states have declared it a known issue, have stated there is a TSB for repair but parts are unavailable with no ETA. Vehicle is under warranty but no remedy except to wait for parts which I have done for almost 1 year. Several other colleagues have the same issue which makes me concerned that probably 1 in every 3 2018 Ram 2500s are or will become safety concerns. It would be my intention to sell this unsafe vehicle as it is a primary means of transportation for my school aged children but no dealership will entertain a trade or severally reduces the trade in amount due to an issue that I can’t even through a factory warranty still being active have resolved. I have no other recourse at this time other than to advocate for individuals to sign up for the class action lawsuit against FCA which covers this exact issue which will hopefully force FCA to fix these unsafe vehicles before deaths or serious injury occur. Any help your organization could be would be appreciated as this is a glaring safety issue known by the manufacturer and these vehicles are used for towing.
ABS / TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT ON IN THE DASH. CRUISE CONTROL INOP. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE, IN FACT 2019-2022 TRUCK HAD A RECALL ISSUED. RAM NEEDS TO ADDRESS THIS SAFETY ISSUE
The abs and traction control light are flashing on and off SEVERAL times especially when on a rough road. It kicks my cruise off and sometimes stays on which locks the diff and disengages any ABS functions resulting in the loss of braking performance and capability.
I have a 2018 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup truck and my ABS engine light came on back in February 2023 indicating that I have a problem with my braking and traction control system. It was because of the Hydraulic Control Module was bad. I Contacted a Factory Chrysler Parts supplier to obtain a new part to have it replaced but they were on backorder until June. In June I contacted them again and was told they were on back order until October 2023. I just contacted them again 9/27/23 and now I am being told the part is on back order until February 2024. This will be a full year causing me to drive without the ABS or Traction control not working, as well as not having cruise control. Doing a search on the internet there are a lot of others having the same issue which is bad enough but when you can't even get the replacement part for over a year on a piece of safety equipment for your vehicle . This is more then a safety issue.
ABS HCU/and pump failure. Truck dies. no Brakes
My 2018 Ram 2500 has an intermittent ABS/ Service Electronic Braking System light. If I am using the cruise control when this light, comes on the cruise control turns off and the vehicle slows in front of moving traffic. I seem to also loose traction control which is dangerous when towing heavy loads.
I am receiving an alert in my truck that states, "Service Antilock Brake System." The emergency warning sound and lights on the dash/display appear constantly. This also affects the "Speed Control" as it kicks off the cruise control when the emergency warning sound and lights come on the dash. I have taken the vehicle to a RAM Dealership who diagnosed the issue, but was advised that parts are on backorder, which is unacceptable as this can be a very dangerous and potentially costly situation. I believe that NHTSA should look into this and provide a recall on the vehicle and expedite the process to getting, not only my vehicle, but others around the country fixed in a timely manner.
ABS module has gone out 3 times since I bought the truck new. Without the ABS system working properly the stopping distance could be reduced. Dealer has acknowledged the problem, saying they had a bad batch of parts but that seems to be incorrect. Looks to be a bad design with the number of these problems on these year model trucks. The dealer has already replaced the part twice and it’s gone out again, less than a year later. Warning lamp, message, and audio alarm cycle on and off intermittent but constant through a drive.
A few months after I bought this vehicle I started getting abs and traction control lights intermittently. Fast forward a year and it has progressed. Now while I’m driving every few seconds I get and audible chime and lights on the dash. This is constant and extremely irritating and distracting. It is also unsafe. I’m constantly driving which no ABS, no traction control and no cruise control. Ram obviously know this is an issue due to lawsuits filed against them and they have done nothing to fix the issue. You cannot buy a new part to fix it because they are “reengineering” the part. It was originally supposed to be ready to ship in august 2023. Here we are in September and they have pushed the date back to February 2024. Leaving all customer drying a 2017-2018 Ram 2500 with an unsafe vehicle and no option to fix it. We also can not trade the vehicle in as the dash lights up and chimes and no dealer wants an unsafe truck that cannot be fixed. A recall is expect at the very least
first evidence of a problem had to deal with the accelerator pedal A new pedal was installed. .The engine would start but only idle, truck would not move when put into drive .It had to be towed .Then it was something about a door sensor .It was replaced .Then the brake fluid problem started. It used 2 full quarts with no drips on the floor . Now I am told that the brake booster / hydraulic system Is the problem. This truck Has only 31,000 miles ,Not driven in the winter and looks like new . I am now afraid of the safety issues associated with plowing into another vehicle in a panic stop , The truck has been in the dealer (Jeff Wyler ,Canal Winchester, Ohio ) for nearly 8 weeks . It has been promised last Friday then Tues, then Thursday. Today is Friday and the service advisor (Jay or Joey) are not returning my calls. Please let know what I should expect . The ABS light came on and went off intermittently, which also disabled the cruise control when the light was on. Eventually the light stayed on. Most recently the start button quit working properly. We have had it at the dealership twice with no results. We have talked to the dealership many times and been getting the run around. The latest was today and was told the parts are back ordered until 2024. They have not given us any paperwork because we do not have to pay. We also have and had the radio (main computer) replaced a couple of times and the screen still blinks randomly.
ABS and Electric Braking System - multiple failures.. 1st time system failed at around 24k miles, was reported and fixed under warranty, 2nd time same system failures at around 76k, same errors and same results.. will have to be repaired under owners costs.. Seems this is a 'known issue with a NTSB" but Ram still not owning the issue.. This part plays a huge role in the safety controls of the truck.. They are designed and built to pull heavy loads and the braking and traction controls play a huge role in the safety traveling of these vehicles..
ABS/traction control failure. This also disabled cruise control causing rapid deceleration at set highway speed. Getting repeating chime and check ABS and traction control warning messages. ABS module and HCU were replaced under warranty at under 11,000 miles for same symptoms. Truck now has just over 45000 and read ABS codes indicate that part has failed again. Part seems to be backordered or unavailable from dealers.
ABS/traction control sensor issue. I believe it to be a faulty sensor or sensor connection issue which is causing my service brake light to chime and light up at every bump in the road. While driving even just a short distance my service brake light/alert chime goes on and off sometimes every 2-3 seconds and while driving on the freeway my cruise control disengages every time the brake warning pops up. Upon researching this issue I've found thousands of Dodge Ram owners complaining of the exact same issues and dealerships are suggesting they know nothing about this problem.
ABS , traction lights are on and cruise control , ABS and traction control doesn’t work. Safety issue. I understand that there is a recall on 2019 , 2020 models and wondering why the 2018 ram 2500 are not included in the recall .seems like a common problem says the dealership.
ABS module or HCU bad. Anti lock brakes not working. Cruise control not working. 4WD not working. Caused issue driving with a load when ABS did not engage and almost rear ended another vehicle.
C0020-01. Electronic Braking System and stability control system continually go in and out of alarm kicking the truck out of cruise control suddenly. This was repaired once under warranty by replacing the hydraulic control unit at 40,000 miles and it is now doing the same thing again at 90,000 miles. This is a significant safety issue as it prevents the use of cruise control and turns off the stability control system on the truck. The parts to repair the system are not available due to them being in “Engineering Review” until 2024. The only guidance from Ram was to continue driving the vehicle until parts become available.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the ABS and stability control warning lights illuminated and flashed on and off. There was an abnormal dinging sound heard. The cruise control became inoperable. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who stated that the vehicle had displayed DTC Code: C0020-01. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.
Mileage: 60,000
Similar to the 2019 & newer Ram HD recall for the ABS electronic control module, my 2018 Ram 2500 has the same issue. It was recently diagnosed at the dealer in August 2023, but due to the abundance of impacted trucks, the dealer estimates that replacement parts will not be available until at least February 2024. While I wait for the repair I have no ABS, traction control, stability control, or cruise control. I drive the truck approximately 750 to 1,000 miles per week and have a 3,000 mile vacation planned in October. This translates to driving the truck approximately 15,000 to 20,000 miles without the above noted safety features. I believe my truck should be added to the recall, and RAM needs to step up and provide faster repairs.
For the third time in 37000 miles the abs system including ABS system and electronic brake system has failed. This has been repaired around 15000 miles and recently at 35000 and it went out again at 37000 miles. Didn't last 2500 miles after last repair. When this happens trailer brakes quit functioning and cruise control also quits working as well as every few minutes the system gives you a continuous warning chime. From checki9ng a few web sites this seems to be an on going problem on the 2018 trucks mostly but a few 17s. Last info I have is parts are not avail for repairs until at least 2/24 and then only maybe. The truck is unsafe to drive especially when towing a larger trailer. This needs to be made a recall for safety concerns. I had to trade off my truck due to how I use it and no expectation for a repair time or date.
Antilock Brake and Traction control warning lights alert with dashboard message intermittently notifying to "service electronic brake system" and "service antilock brakes". Warnings come and go and may stay off for several days. When in warning mode, cruise control is de-activated; either shutting off, if set, or not allowing use. Dealer repaired by replacing pump control module (part#68143491AB) at a total cost of $683.19 for parts and labor. Odometer mileage at time of event was approximately 76,600 miles. Dealer indicated that this was a very common problem. Truck should be recalled and repaired at manufacturer's expense.
ABS TRACTION CONTROL BRAKING ISSUES AND DANGER. ONLY HAS 24K MILES GARAGE KEPT
Vehicle started displaying “Service Electronic Braking System” and “Service Anti-Lock Brakes” intermittently and rapidly, during normal driving. Problem appears at random, and when it happens, the cruise control cuts out causing loss of speed. Truck shows code C0020-01 with an ABS code reader, meaning that either the Hydraulic Control Unit or Anti Lock Brake Module (or both) require replacement. Upon researching repair, I have found that this is a very common problem with these trucks, and that there is a possible NHTSA investigation into this, as Ram is very aware of the problem (as evidenced by their responses on forums discussing this problem) but has not issued a recall.
Service electronic braking system light comes on intermittently every 1-5 minutes while driving. Also, a light indicating issues with the traction control system comes on. ABS system seems to be failing or indicating failure almost constantly. Cruise control is disabled during these times. I've read this is a common problem with these vehicles. There really needs to be a recall issued for this. Is my truck safe to drive if the braking system functionality is in question? Not really.
My ABS and Traction control lights activated visually and with audible alarms. I brought it to the dealer. It only has 23,000 miles on it with a manufacturer extended warranty. The dealer told me that the ABS pump motor control as well as the HCU has failed and need to be replaced. They also told me that the parts are not going to be available until the EARLIEST February of 2024. The vehicle is not safe to drive without these safety systems working especially towing. They told me the parts are under Engineering review. They suggested I park the vehicle until parts are available. NOT ACCEPTABLE!!! I have looked at owner forums and this issue is common and needs to be addressed by NHTSA and the vehicles recalled due to safety.
My ABS / Electronic Stability control warning lights keep coming on intermittently and also sometimes staying on for hours at a time. I cannot use my cruise and my ABS will not work with these problems making this a very dangerous truck to drive. I have read that there are many other trucks with this issue. More specficially the 2017-2018 Ram 2500's. I believe there should be a recall for these parts as this is a intergral function in these HD trucks.
ABS and Traction Control warning lights on dash, go off and come back on. Truck was in cruise control with exhaust brake on and tow/haul mode engaged. ABS/Traction control light flashed on, truck dropped out of cruise control, exhaust brake came on car following the truck almost collided with my rear bumper. This is a dangerous situation, it is also affecting the cruise control. The dash board ABS and Traction control light cycle on and off, however this last few days they have been on more than they are off. This needs to be fixed at no charge by RAM trucks.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated that the Service Brakes message was displayed and deactivated the cruise control and caused the stability and traction control systems to fail to operate as needed. The failure wase self-corrected; however, the failure recurred shortly afterwards. The failure persisted. The vehicle had not been taken to the dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 78,000.
Mileage: 78,000
Faults for the ABS (anti-lock brake system) and EBS (electronic braking system) have been coming on intermittently for a couple months. Now the faults are permanently on indicating the ABS and EBS needs serviced. The fault code is c0020-01which indicates the known malfunction involving the anti lock brake system module and anti lock brake system control. While these faults are present the cruise control also doesn’t work. This is a well documented and known issue with certain model years Ram 2500 and 3500. My truck had approximately 57,000 miles when the faults began.
ABS and Tracton control
ABS failed, cruise control and traction control are inop as a result. The risk is loss of ABS when traveling, especially on wet or snow and ice covered roads. It has not been inspected by a mechanic. The failure light is on in the dash cluster and I have clearly lost traction control and cruise control. This began on July 31, 2023.
The abs pump and module are bad and there is no replacement parts available through ram. The truck only has 32k miles. They say the parts are on back order. The truck has no abs function nor does it have vehicle traction control. This should be a recall as it’s happening to thousands of trucks. This is a blatant safety violation. Yet the new trucks are still being built with these parts that are somehow not available.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN US 19/27. THE ROAD WAS WET AND A DEER RAN OUT IN FROUNT OF ME. WHEN I APPLIED BRAKES MY TIRES LOCKED UP AND I SKIDDED OF THE ROAD. MY ABS LIGHT STAYS ON AND EVERY TIME I TAKE TO THE DEALER TO HAVE IT FIXED THEY TELL ME THEY CAN NOT GET PARTS. THE TRUCK HAS BEEN DOING THIS SINCE I FIRST BOUGHT IT. AT FIRST IT WAS INTERMITTEN BUT NOW THE ABS LIGHT STAYS
My 2018 Ram 2500 6.4l is experiencing intermittent ABS, traction control, electric braking warnings on the dash which affects cruise control once alarm is active. This issue seems to be globally.
Consistent warning stating, "Service Anti-Lock Braking System" and "Service Traction Control System" from the vehicle. While this warning is indicated by dinging tones, text displaying in the vehicle information screen, and lights lit on the dashboard, the ABS, Traction Control, and Cruise Control Systems do not function. This is a severe safety risk as if this occurs while driving your cruise control immediately shuts off and if driving in slick conditions you no longer have anti-lock brakes, nor traction control. This is apparently a known issue of Fiat Chrysler on the 2017-2018 model year vehicles where the HCU (Hydraulic Control Unit) needs to be replaced which will remedy this issue. The parts however seem to be in very short supply and not all vehicle mechanics can make the repairs as I am being told you need specific software to reset the system once the HCU has been replaced. This is estimated to cost between $1200-1800 to have repaired. I have reached out to Chrysler Cares and they advised me to take my vehicle to my local dealer for repair and advised there is no warranty, nor recall in place to cover these costs.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds with the cruise control activated, the cruise control erroneously deactivated causing the speed to be reduced. During the failure, the ABS and traction control warning lights illuminated. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer was contacted regarding the failure. The manufacturer was not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 101,000.
Mileage: 101,000
ABS light turned on on the dash. Next a warning that the park sense, ABS, four wheel drive, and Cruise were disabled. Had Diagnostics run and found that the vehicle ABS is logging C0020-01 and C0020-16. Case number S2005000004 from STAR showing this to be a known issue. Contacted every dealership within 100 mile range and the needed part of an ABS HCU is unavailable until at least February 2024. Contacted Stellantis Customer care and they will not assist unless the vehicle receives an official diagnostic from a dealership that will cost me at least $150 and they will not assist with replacing the part or even supplying the part so there was no gain from having the diagnostic officially done at a RAM dealership. Well known issue per every dealership and many online forums. No assistance from RAM/Stellantis at all.
ABS / Traction Control turns on and off intermittently without warning when this happens the cruise control turns off creating sudden loss of speed control
Vehicle: 2018 Ram 2500, mileage 35171. Beginning in April 2023 the ABS and Traction control dash lights would intermittently flash while sounding an alarm. The message on the dash states "Service Anti-lock Braking System" and "Service Electronic Braking System." This creates the issue of losing ABS and traction control while disabling cruise control. As time progressed it would become more frequent and would more prominent during extremely humid or rainy weather. First call to dealership was told "We can only diagnose IF the vehicle is demonstrating the issue." At that time I indicated to the service tech that there are numerous national forums with the exact same issue. Truck was brought to dealership for official diagnosis: $179.00 diagnosis fee; $411.70 Labor to remove and replace HCM; $262.00 HCU (Part # 68143491AA); 447.50 labor to remove and replace ABS Module; and $388.00 ABS Module (Part # 68347098AB). Service tech advised me that all parts are on back order and I could possibly be without the truck until mid/end of August. This is an issue the manufacturer should be obligated to correct.
Hello, I have been having issues with my 2018 Ram 2500. The Service Traction Control and ABS lights on the dash have been flashing on and off constantly. Along with no Cruise Control when this happens. This has been going on now for about 3500 miles. I am still driving the vehicle due to being my only work truck. I have been doing some research along with talking to the Ram Service Departments and have noticed that this is a very large safety problem that is highly known about that is not being taken care of. Even the service manager I had spoken with is amazed that this has not been a recall. This should most definitely be a recall and should be taken care of before more people get injured or killed.
ABS & Traction Control warning off/on on irregular basis Turns off cruise control each time the warning lights activate
I have a 2018 Ram 2500 I has second abs module failure and dealer still has failed to get my truck fix. the abs failure been failed back in 12/25/2022. with abs failure cruise control is lost also.
The anti-lock braking system will fail intermittently which disengages the cruise control and traction control system as well as cause an audible chime. When this occurs, it may happen once or many times over the course of a few minutes, stop, start again, or stop altogether to reoccur a few days later. The issue appears to be the ABS control/hydraulic control unit issue others report. Loss of anti-lock brakes is a concern in itself; however, trucks in the class of a Ram 2500 are regularly leveraged as tow vehicles. Losing anti-lock brakes and traction control while towing increases risk significantly. In addition, losing cruise control coupled with simultaneous warning lights and chimes creates a significant distraction for the driver which under difficult driving conditions may prove dangerous.
Ebs light comes on and I lose traction control and cruise control. Happens more often when humid and/or raining . When I use brakes when warning Iight is on brakes lock up -especially in the wet
This is the second time the antilock brake control module has failed and this truck has less than 75k miles on it. The warning lights constantly come on and off and if I needed to brake I am not sure that my antilock brake system would work.
My vehicle has intermittent ABS/Traction Control/Service Anti-Lock Brake warnings. Upon trip to the dealership they notified me that I had codes for active wheel speed sensor and a stored Anti-lock Brake Module fault. Upon repair of the Wheel Speed Sensor, I had a reoccurring fault of the same and all ABS/Traction Control/ Service Anti-Lock Brake warnings and the same wheel speed sensor fault. They informed me that they could not order the ABS Pump Module as it was on engineering hold because of an investigation by NHTSA. Please make these people recall the ABS systems on these vehicles as when I look for information it is happening to hundreds if not thousands of trucks. My truck has 125,000 miles on it and has been WELL kept, and Mopar/FCA will not even sell us the parts to make our vehicles safe again. Currently due to the fault I have no cruise control, no four wheel drive, no parking sensors, and NO ABS OR TRACTION CONTROL. Seriously dangerous. Thank you.
Consistent and predictive Failure of Anti-lock brake control module (68143491-AA /68143491-AB) in 2018 Ram 2500/3500 Trucks. Nationwide shortage of OEM Replacement Parts leading dealers to hoard exclusively for customers for whom repairs are to be made. Extremely difficult to find a dealer willing to sell brake control module, if they have one in stock, to anyone. Instead, dealers recognize there is up to a 6 month waiting period for restocking and therefore taking advantage of those who chose to utilize independent mechanics. Dodge/Ram is acutely aware of shortage, as well as failure of part and has chosen to not warranty or conduct a voluntary recall. Every Ram mechanic and parts office I spoke with acknowledge EVERY 2018 Ram 2500/3500 will fail. The subject vehicle had under 31,000 miles. During failure, the vehicle loses its' anti-lock functions, traction control, defeats cruise control, dash continually lights up with error message 'SERVICE ELECTRONIC BRAKING SYSTEM' then 'SERVICE ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM' while simultaneously and constantly generating an audible warning over and over again during the operation of the vehicle. Price gouging for part, if you can find a dealer that 1) has the part in stock, and 2) willing to sell the part can run between $180.26 - $525.02 (MSRP $262.00). Part is in use for year models 2012-2018. I personally paid $525.02 (and grateful a dealer sold the part to me over the objections of the parts manager), drove 4 hours to obtain, plus install.
6 months ago, the ABS brakes and stability control warning lights started to randomly light up on the dashboard. Sometimes I would not see a repeat of this for a week or more. The warning lights started to appear more frequently, and now are on all the time. When on, the cruise control does not operate. I took it to a Ram dealer near me, and the service department confirmed it is a defective ABS pump, known as the HCU module. They then informed me that Chrysler has no inventory of this part! I asked how long to get one, and was told some people have been waiting for over a year! The part, # 68143491AB, appears to be readily available online from a multitude of vendors. My truck has only 34,000 miles on it, and no ABS, no Stability control, and no cruise control is a safety issue! Please HELP!
ABS light on when braking had to apply full force , truck would not stop for about 20 feet was moving slowly so no accident.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle, the ABS, Traction Control and Cruise Control warning lights remained illuminated. The contact stated that since the failure had occurred, the brakes failed to immediately respond while depressing the brake pedal. The contact stated that the brake pedal felt spongy. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The local dealer was not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 39,000.
Mileage: 39,000
ABS Hydraulic Control Unit C0020-01 ABS Pump Motor Control Has been in for repair once and diagnositc 2nd time. Awaiting parts. Anti-Lock Brake System Warning Light, Traction Control Warning Light, Service Electronic Brake System Message - Continuous Lit and Intermittent Chime
2018 Dodge Ram 2500 with Cummins turbo diesel. When driving, the dash warning light for the ABS and the Traction Control System intermittently come in and spontaneously reset. If the cruise control is on and set, it turns off without driver input. Dodge dealer states that the hydraulic control unit needs to be replaced, but they have been on back order for over a year.
Braking power was diminished. ABS and Traction Control lights illuminated on dashboard and did not go out.
Abs and traction control indicator lamps have an intermittent flash and alarm that alert at random times. This is dangerous as this not only disables the cruise control but the traction control is then disabled as well as the abs system causing brakes to lock up. Mopar and ram refuse to fix the issue and it costs consumers $1200 for parts and labor that may or not fix the issue. This is reported in many forum pages as well with all having the same complaints and stuck with the repair or not due to unreasonable cost associated with a possible fix. This should be an immediate recall as it is a safety concern even more so than an airbag issue. I cannot fathom a government agency responsible for safety to not mandate this as a recall.
2018 RAM 2500 ABS module failure in 9/22. Dealer diagnosed & said part was on back order until 12/22. I have called the dealership multiple times checking on availability of the replacement part & each time I am told a different ship date with the current ship date a year out from the start of the problem. RAM seems to be unconcerned their product is endangering their customers with ABS failures which, unless I'm mistaken is a required feature on vehicles. The warning lights & "chimes" are constantly going off which is a distraction for the safe operation of this motor vehicle. The fact this is a know issue & the "fix" in my case is a year out is unacceptable. This component(s) have already been replaced by a recall & now failed is not acceptable. Through online searches, this is a known problem that has drug out too long & posing a risk to the drivers & passengers of these trucks & the traveling public that shares the road with these trucks.
For about 8 months, our 2018 Dodge Ram 2500 has had interment ABS and HCU warning lights and the notification to "Service electronic braking system" followed by "Service antilock brake system". This may occur for a period of hours or seconds and disables our trucks ABS, traction control, cruise control and other systems. When checked, the truck has no stored fault codes. When this first occurred, I went to the dealer where the truck was purchased and inquired about replacement ABS and HCU modules and was informed that none were available. After subsequent visits and internet research, I found TSB#C0020-01, "ABS Pump Motor", that directs replacement of the ABS/HCU modules, and directs that the replacement parts will be provided by a "STAR system". We have had three incidents that we narrowly avoided accidents, two due to the intermittent ABS failure and one due to sudden loss of traction control while pulling our trailer. It has also noted that a Class Action Lawsuit has resulted from this same issue.
Service ABS system message turns on and off continuously while driving. When the warning is active ABS is disabled. Also when the warning activates it will disable cruise control suddenly. It continues to turn on and off. Dealership diagnosed it as ABS control module. They state there are no parts to replace it with at this point in time and no ETA on when a part will be manufactured. They also stated they believe it should be a recall item as 2019-2022 models had similar issues and was recall issue. Non working ABS and sudden cut off of cruise control is a safety concern. Significant research on my part shows this is a very common issue with these vehicles. This happens without fail every time the vehicle is driven.
ABS & Traction light flickers and stays on. Brakes have pulsed. This is very dangerous for my family and myself. Ram wants to charge me $$ for a manufacturing defect that they are all to aware of. This not fare.
HCU / ABS module issues. Truck while driving has no cruise control my lights stay illuminated all the time, truck only has 57,000 miles and already repaired all 4 abs wheel speed censors, spent countless hours visibly checking all wires and fuses make sure no defects there. This could be a very dangerous and life threatening situation and I would think it's only right for Dodge Ram to recall the 2017-2018 for this ABS issue.
The Anti-Lock Brake control module along with the Hydraulic control unit is failing. At any rate of speed, the traction control light and the ABS light comes on and off repeatedly. When this happens, the cruise control disengages which has cause the truck to slow down rapidly in heavy traffic causing other drivers to almost rear end my pregnant wife, 3 year old son and I. I had my local ram dealer pull the Diagnostic Trouble Codes and confirmed that the parts stated above, were in fact failing. The messages that pop up on the instrument cluster are “Service Anti-Lock Brake system” and “Service Electronic Brake System”. I can not have this component inspected as it is a daily driver and is the only vehicle we have currently.
The ABS, traction control, cruise control and 4x4 no longer function. It started intermittently and now is constant. The vehicle is available for inspection. After a hard stop the abs won’t engage and I lost traction of the truck. There are two warning lamps that are on at all times (abs and traction control). It has been ongoing for almost 1 year and 10,000 miles or so.
Driving down the highway with the cruise control set and all of a sudden the cruise control stops working and my dash is dinging with service ABS system and service Electronic Brake System. The truck had 78,500 miles when this first happened. Now it does it intermittently while driving down the road. I notice there’s no recalls and it sound like a large problem. Haven’t taken it to a dealer yet.
At 36,000 miles have been told I need to replace ABS pump control general electrical failure. Also replace ABS module. Parts are not available and are on backorder. I pull a 25 foot camper and this issue is causing concern with vehicle stopping. Apparently is a big problem as parts are not available and dealers that have part will not release parts so my truck can be fixed.
About every 10 to 15 seconds an alarm sounds and warning sign blinks on dash with message to service anti-braking system and traction control. If cruise control was engaged it disengages and sometimes will not reset until engine is turned off and restarted. Vehicle seems to have braking issues, especially on wet pavement. Brake pads have been checked and are ok. Vehicle odometer has 34102 miles on it. .
ABS module system has been replaced twice .. needs to be replaced again per Dodge tech. No parts available. Unsafe to drive vehicle with no power brakes This is not unique to my truck. various individuals having same problem with same model Electrical Instrument cluster with display has been replaced and currently working.
While applying the breaks the vehicle will deactivate ABS and force the vehicle to slide without control. ABS will turn off and on without warning. While using cruse control abs will deactivate and cause cruse control to stop working, causing the vehicle to slow unexpectedly. This has happed while towing a goose neck trailer causing additional pressure on vehicle when sudden loss of cruise control and abs.
The ABS, Service Electronic Brakes, and traction control warning alert constantly goes on and off while driving, deactivating cruise control as well. It does it all speeds, in all gears, including on the highway, at 70, in traffic. This is especially problematic in the rain, as I don't know if the ABS will work or not. The alert goes on, resets and goes off, then goes on, then resets, constantly. Sometimes for the duration of the trip, sometimes once or twice. This has been happening since September 2022, for eight months now. The anti-lock brakes or electronic brake system MAY NOT WORK; The problem has been confirmed by an independent service center; The vehicle has not been inspected outside the independent service center; No warning lamps or other symptoms prior to this failure.
INTERMITTENT FAILURE OF ABS/HCU RESULTING IN NO ABS, CRUISE CONTROL, OR TRACTION CONTROL. UNABLE TO FIND THE PART IN QUESTION, DEALERS WANTING NEARLY $2000 FOR REPAIR ON UNACCEPTABLE TIMELINE. UNABLE TO HAUL SIGNIFICANT LOADS WITH TRUCK (I.E. CAMPER OR EQUIPMENT/TRAILERS). DOING RESEARCH I FOUND THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS TRUCK AND NO RECALL WAS EVER ISSUED. HCU PARTS ARE NOW RESTRICTED AND EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE IF ONE DOES MANAGE TO FIND ONE. CLASS ACTION LAWSUITS INITIATED AGAINST CHRYSLER IN CALIFORNIA. THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN KNOWN ABOUT FOR YEARS NOW AND SHOULD BE MADE KNOWN TO ANYONE THINKING OF BUYING A RAM. I LOVE THE TRUCK BUT IT IS UNSAFE AND INCREDIBLY DIFFICULT TO REPAIR AT THIS TIME CAUSING SIGNIFICANT HEADACHES FOR MY FAMILY.
ABS lights flashing on dash, intermittent at times, sometimes all the time. Deactivates cruise and traction control. Dangerous when hauling loads. Sudden loss of cruise almost caused an accident.
Intermittent ABS, EBS and traction control issues causing spurious warnings and loss of cruse control. The alerts are distracting to the driver, loss of ebs/abs represents safety issues while traveling, as does the loss of traction control and cruse control. Dealer has diagnosed the issue to the respective abs/ebs controllers but reports no parts in inventory and no due date for when they will be available. Formally request NHTSA force a recall to require the mfg to correct the issue expeditiously.
There has not been an accident. Hopefully it won't come to that! This needs to be addressed
The vehicle experiences intermittent fault displays for "electronic brake service" and "ABS Service". This causes the vehicle to suddenly come out of cruise control and slow dramatically. This causes the vehicles ABS safety function to be inoperative reducing the overall braking capability and increasing the safe stopping distance This causes traction and stability controls to be disabled further degrading the built in safety features This was diagnosed several months ago by the dealership as an ABS hydraulic pump problem with no parts availability. The lack of parts has been an issue for months and has rendered my vehicle inoperative. The dealer said this was a common problem and that they had multiple Ram trucks with the same problem. I also checked online and found multiple reports of the same issue across the brand and across the country. This is a significant and costly repair >$800 for a part which is clearly underdesigned for the applicaiton with poor or little reliability.
The ABS light is on, states it needs to be fixed, we were told by our mechanic that this is a known issue. HCU unit fail and throws service ABS light. Cruise control does not work due to this issue. This started last November and are waiting for parts for the repairs. The truck only had around 74,000 miles when this started. Our repairs are going to be over $1200 to fix. This is crazy, Ram should be recalling these trucks and paying for the repairs.
ABS and HCU are in need of replacement parts. Because no replacement parts are available, I have no choice but to drive a Truck with questionable Breaking System, putting me, my family and others at risk, since the brake system is what stops my Truck when I need it to stop or slow down. I use this to tow the family travel trailer as well. This is also very important when brakes are needed to function safely. I have taken the Truck to my dealer of purchase. They completed a diagnostic test and also reproduced and confirmed the problem. The vehicle has been inspected by the manufacturer's dealership Service Dept. The Truck's "ABS SERVICE BRAKE SYSTEM" warning lights and warning tones alerted me of service needed back in November 2022, with just over 36,000 miles. I made an appointment and the dealership serviced my truck in January 2023. Since no parts are available for the repair, I had no option but to pay a diagnostic's fee to have my vehicle released to me, still in need of repairs. The warning lights and signals continue to go off repeatedly whenever I drive my Truck, letting me know that there is a SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE FIXED!
HCU antilock traction control unit, warning lights on.
ABS system and Cruise Control cut out on my truck constantly when I’m driving. My brakes have locked up while I was driving in the rain almost causing me to wreck. I’ve seen other people having issues with this and their HCU units in these year trucks. Ram refuses to help me.
ABS and traction control failed causing me to lose control on an icy road. I was able to regain control without hitting anything or having an accident but now I get an intermittent ABS control module service warning. When this appears the antilock brakes, the cruise control and traction control do not work. Once the light goes off all systems return to normal operation. It is intermittent and unpredictable. Parts are on National back order, I do not think replacing all of these parts is the issue. As dealers like to do… they just replace the whole system without identifying what the issue is. I do not think I should have to pay for replacing parts that are working properly. FCA needs to recall all of these systems and replace them at their expense!
ABS & Traction Light flicker on & off randomly at no specific duraction. I cannot predict when lamps will come on, also cruise control is disabled when lamps light up. I understand this has been an on-going issue for Ram.
Dec 1, 2022, Service dept. at Local RAM dealer in Binghamton, NY, diagnosed and concluded that the vehicle requires a new abs hydraulic control unit. PN: 68143491AB was ordered (Order # 1201BP) At that time, Parts were listed as being on Backorder and unavailable until mid January, 2023. ?? Mid January 2023, Part still unavailable, New estimate of part availability was mid March 2023. ??? Mid March 2023, I'm now being told parts will not be available until mid August 2023 ??? At this point, it will be over 9 months to correct this issue.
ABS module and traction control starting going off while driving. I took the car to the dealer but refused to fix it despite being under warranty at the time. The ABS and traction control lights go on/off suddenly and my cruise control shuts down and I loose ABS braking which is CRITICAL. this can cause an accident and I am not the only one with this issue. 2019+ Rams have already been recalled for the same issue. I need to get fixed ASAP, I HAVE CHILDREN IN THE CAR WITH ME! Issue keeps getting worse and lights come on more and more frequent, so most of my driving is without proper brakes.
The ABS module has to be replaced!
Service lights for ABS and traction control systems constantly going on and off during vehicle use, these system failures disable cruise control systems. Truck is at dealer and they have said it needs new hydraulic control unit and ABS parts totaling over $2000 in parts alone, without an idea of when the parts will be available. This seems to be a common failure as I have read many posts of other Ram owners with the same issues.
1) Brake Anti-Lock Control Unit (Three times. (9/17/19 (5000 miles), 11/12/21 (21,527 Miles), 3/20/23, 33,000 miles). 2) Traction Control fails, Anti-Lock Brake System fails, and Speed control if engaged kicks off! All which could lead to ineffective braking, loss of control and inadvertent speed control disengagement. 3) Yes. Cameron JCDR dealership, Cameron, Texas, Mac Haik JCDR dealership, Temple, Texas. 4) Not at this time. A case has been started through Ram. Case # 85736004 5) Yes. All messages appeared at various times prior to me getting the vehicle to the dealerships for maintenance.
Abs braking system has been flashing and traction control light flashing. My left front wheel started grinding and smoking out of the blue when driving today. No problems with brakes before that. Cruise control doesn’t work. And four wheel drive service light is flashing again!! The four wheel drive sensor was replaced once already a couple years ago.
Was driving vehicle on a rock road, when rounding a slight curve in the road, the antilock brake system light and the traction control lights both illuminated at the same time. The rear end of the truck began to slide due to having light pressure on the brakes and I was pulling my fifth wheel camper. Fortunately there were no injuries or damage to the truck or the camper. I washed off the mud when I got back to a hard surface area that had a car wash available and continued on my journey. Approximately 30 more miles later on the same trip both warning lights came on again. I immediately pulled over to read the message warning that was up on the dash to see if I could continue with my journey or not. After reading the message on the display in the truck, I decided it would be safer not to continue with my journey with that truck due to the safety issues and possibility of injury or death to me and my passengers, or another vehicle that I may encounter either head on or from behind. I had a friend of mine bring his fifth wheel truck to pick up my camper and return it back to my home. I had to cancel my camping trip for that week, which cost me approximately $400 out of pocket and then I had to pay my friend gas money to bring my vehicle home for me. I placed a call to the dealership nearest me and they advised me it would be $1,000 to begin any sort of diagnostic procedure on the I have now been driving the vehicle only unladened with any sort of extra payload, the light will come on and go off and come on and go off multiple times some days no times other days. I am retired, and a long-term covid patient, I do not have the financial resources to take a vehicle to a dealership to have them charge me absorbent amount of money when this clearly should be a safety recall on this vehicle. I have lost use of the vehicle for the intended purpose of telling my camper and boat, the manufacturer needs to be advised of this and give everybody repairs to make it safe to use.
2018 Ram 2500 6.7L Cummins. While driving, at any speed, “Service ABS” and/or “Service Electronic Braking System” flashes rapidly and intermittently on gauge cluster display. During this, the “Traction Control Fail” icon displays. Additionally, the cruise control will automatically disengage (creating a safety issue through increased risk of being rear ended while at highway speeds) and the warning chime activates constantly leading to distraction while driving. The truck is essentially undriveable. It is incumbent on the manufacturer to remedy this problem. It’s a shame I cannot use this truck more than a few miles at a time. How am I to stop with my family of 6 inside the truck, towing a 10,000 lbs trailer on a rainy day at interstate speeds without functioning ABS? This is a serious design flaw and I encourage NHTSA to continue their investigation into Ram’s process for remedy as soon as practical. Strongly recommend mandatory recall.
abs trailer brakes traction control works on and off
There seems to be a huge ongoing problem with ABS pumps and control modules for this model vehicle. I can find pages and pages of issues online for the same truck. The 'service brakes' warning comes on and off intermittently and I managed to replicate the fault after several months long enough to get it diagnosed. I am told the following parts are the issue: 68347098 - AB MODULE AN 08035030 68143491- AB CONTROL A 08035030 I got the truck diagnosed in January but was initially told Mid March for the parts and now am being told August - which would mean no functioning ABS on my vehicle for 8 months! And no guarantee the delivery date won't creep again. This is unacceptable for a safety critical component and clearly shows a fundamental flaw with the parts as they can't seem to make them faster than they are failing. I can find many reports of these happening from as early as 14,000 miles and with the replacement parts also failing.
ABS traction control warning comes on intermittently. This causes cruse control to disengage intermittently, and causes braking and traction to be compromised at times
A warning light comes on that there is a failure with the anti lock brakes and electronic braking system. The cruise control will also fail to work. When the roads where wet the other day, i was sliding to avoid hitting deer that began crossing the road. It took longer to stop than it should have. I'm concerned that living in Michigan with the inclement weather, it may cause a accident that could have been avoided. The vehicle was checked by a mechanic who said the control was going out. The incident started some last summer (I only have 22,000 miles on my truck) but it is intermittent.
Abs/traction control lights come on and disconnects the cruise control dangerously wen pulling a trailer, code is c0020-01 this is a very common issue with these trucks parts unavailable, I’ve talk to many other owners with same issues please address the problem before someone gets hurt thanks.
Driving along freeway to visit family, cruise control engaged, travelling 65 mph, when all of a sudden several messages flashed on the dash to "check electronic braking system", and traction control disengaged light and service light came on as Cruise control shut off. after a few seconds lights went out and system returned to normal. Repeated several times on way back home (3 hr drive) and had randomly happened since almost every time I drive the truck. Had similar situation a year after I bought the vehicle, 11/2020 @6600 miles, local dealer replaced HCU. This can potentially leave me without Traction control and ABS when I need them and could cause an Accident. I'm waiting for dealer to get other parts in for a covered warranty repair, (Been waiting since Nov 2022), and have them fix both, again, but it renders my truck useless- dangerous to drive until then.
My vehicle has 45347 miles. It started throwing "Service Electronic Braking system " and "Service Antilock Brake system" messages intermittently. While driving on highway, truck would abruptly throw these messages and turn off ABS, EBS and also cruise control. It appears to be a very common safety issue with 2018 RAM 2500. I took my vehicle to the dealer but he couldn't read the codes because they were off and didn't come on. This is a safety issue for driving a one ton pickup truck and especially if driven in wet conditions.
ABS / HCU System Failed. My safety was directly impacted. I was driving 70MPH on the expressway and had a SUDDEN deceleration, which nearly caused a rear-impact collision. Various warnings and lights on the dash lit up with "Service Electronic Braking System". When the ABS / HCU system has an issue, it deactivates the cruise control, ABS System, traction control, and parking detection system. The dealer is able to verify the issue. I have taken the truck to the dealer, who is reporting a part shortage and multi-month backorder for the part. This is a huge safety issue, and could have killed me and my children. This should become an immediate recall since it directly impacts the safety features of the vehicle as well as the cruise control system, which may suddenly deactivate and cause sudden deceleration. Various warning lamps display. BRAKE, ABS, Traction CONTROL.
The Service ABS light come on, around 32,390 miles just out of the 3 year/36,000 mile warranty! The cruse control no longer works! The traction control light is on with the ABS light! Beeps on and off and on and on very annoying!!! Had the truck scanned by my local Mechanic. ANTILOCK BRAKES C0020-01 ABS PUMP MOTOR CONTROL-GENERAL ELECTRIC FAILURE-STORED. The truck is available upon request.
The abs module and hydraulic control unit has failed. This means that my safty and others on the road is put at risk because during heavy breaking you can loose control of the vehicle due to the truck anti break system does not work. Also the traction control does not work which also will cause you to loose control.
The service brake system and service antilock brake system light came on. This light comes on quite often and shuts off intermittently. The pick-up no-longer has anti-lock brakes, traction control, or stability control. When light is on cruise will not work which if it set and light comes on it will shut-off and cause vehicle to drop speed which could cause an accident. Last time I drove it it felt like the brakes were spongy or not really engaging, which almost cause me to go through stop sign on to a highway. I have not had a chance to take it in to get checked yet, and the parts to repair I believe are back ordered.
Brake ABS and traction control system is malfunctioning due to failed ABS Hydraulic Control Unit as diagnosed by Ram dealership. Malfunctioning includes illuminated warning lights for ABS and electronic braking system. Malfunction also effects use of cruise control system. Vehicle is available for inspection upon request. Safety is at risk due to unknown effects on use of ABS system. Problem has been diagnosed and confirmed by dealer. Warning lamps have been intermittently illuminated for several weeks.
2018 RAM 2500, both the hydraulic control unit and the anti-lock brake system module had to be replaced with only 46,000 miles. I would get a warning to "Service Electronic Breaking System while going highway speed with the cruise control on. Once I receive the warning, it would disengage the cruise control without any notice. That is very scary and dangerous.
ABS system failed at 6000 miles. Dealership replaced the brake system I was told. AT 37000 miles just out of the basic warranty it has failed again. Dealership can not do the repairs due to the fact there is not enough replacement parts because of all the trucks are failing in this matter. ABS/TRACTION control failure. I have been waiting four months and told maybe March now. Dealership has been in contact and doing everything possible. Its just so many trucks are failing. I am almost ready to sell it at a loss. I purchased this truck to haul my RV which I don't dare too. Also they welded my steering linkage on a recall and now I can not align my steering with new tires. I am just amazed with this repair on a heavy duty four wheel drive as well. They did not inform me on this cheap repair. Something a kid would do and not tell his dad. Also the cruise control is now not working while there is a abs failure. 6000 miles on first failure of brakes. Truck has now 42000 on it. Im afraid of driving this truck anyplace with traffic. This truck will kill someone with this issue.
ABS and stability control fails and warning lights activate intermittently 11/11/22 (47,290 miles) The cruise control disengaged without notice when the faulty modules light up. Under a heavy load this caused severe speed reduction and momentary loss of vehicle control Reported to dealer.(Rothrock motor sales) It is a know issue with thousands of suspect ram 2500's Parts are not available due to demand. This is an intermittent fault with the Stability control and/or hydraulic control module. Both parts or one part faults the other creating a hazard for all drivers Dealer was made aware of issue and states parts are back ordered months out if at all available causing customers to drive the trucks with unsafe braking due to no other means of transportation This is a well know defect being ignored by Chrysler/Ram
At 36,100 miles I started getting ABS light warning flashing intermittently on my dash. I took it to a mechanic who told me it needed a ABS module and/or a controller device replacement but these parts have been on back order for the last four months (says RAM). It looks as if many, many people are having this same problem with this vehicle. This problem resigns the vehicle as inoperable since it involves a braking component that is obviously a safety issue. This is my only vehicle so I MUST drive it at times which makes me very nervous.
Beginning at almost exactly 28000 miles, this truck intermittently shows a warning for a fault with the “electronic braking system” and the “antilock braking system” where there are multiple warning lights and tones, and the ABS, traction control and cruise control becomes inoperative. This has increased in frequency and occurs in any conditions at random intervals. Recently it has come on and off as many as 20 times in a 12 mile trip. I am aware of a current NHTSA investigation into these vehicles as well as a class action lawsuit against Stellantis. I have reported the condition to my dealer who advised it is not covered under warranty and no parts are available to repair it.
Anytime while driving the truck waring lights on the dashboard will come on intermittently. The ABS and traction control light will come on, and on the display screen two different messages will appear along with alarm sound constantly dinging. One message says (Service Electronic Braking System) the other says (Service Antilock Brake System). If driving with the cruise control on when those lights and messages appear the cruise will stop working. This problem is intermittent it comes and goes, but usually very often. The truck is out of warranty with 41000 miles on it and this has been happening since Sept. of 2022. I had it diagnosed by an independent garage and had two trouble codes (C0020-01 ABS Pump Motor Control General Electrical Failure) and (C0020-16 ABS Pump Motor Control Circuit Voltage Below Threshold). The truck still seems to stop normally, but I feel very unsafe driving it. The ABS Hydraulic Control unit is unavailable from the dealer. As of today Jan.-18 2023 they are saying it will not be available until March-15 2023. This is most definitely a safety issue on the truck which should be recalled. The dealer says the parts problem is a supplier issue. I believe the manufacturer knows these are defective and is trying to avoid recall.
I have a 2018 Ram 2500 Diesel and throughout the past 24 months I have been receiving intermittent ABS and Traction Control lights while driving. Recently (3 days ago), the lights have come back, are staying on, and the screen displayed the words "Perform Service". I attached my diagnostic tool and the Code captured is: C0020 Status: MIL/Confirmed - ABS Pump Motor Control - General Electric Failure.
2018 Ram 2500 with 18,900 miles. While driving at various speeds, the ABS and traction control warning lights illuminated with an audible chime. The brakes would slip upon depression of the brake pedal while the warning lights are illuminated. ABS control module/traction control is intermittently failing. There is no antilock braking or traction control on wet/icy conditions.
C0020-01 code began coming in and out immediatly following a service at my local Ram dealer. I returned to the dealer after the warning lamps and messages all came in around ten times within a mile of picking my truck up from them. The dealer used a device to clear the messages, but the alarms returned again after I left. There are multiple warning lamps and messages that remain in as a result of this: service anti-lock braking system, ABS warning lamp, traction control lamp, and a loss of cruise control functionality. While the constant "dinging" sound and loss of cruise control on a truck with less than 20K miles is disappointing, I am concerned whether or not these warnings are indication of a serious safety hazard to my family and/or those we are on the highway with. My truck is available for inspection. The issue was confirmed by my local dealer who cleared the alarms when they first came in.
Abs, stability control and cruise control are not working as they should. Dash is constantly displaying a warning error about the brakes and stability control.
During the month of July 2021 I would get a message to service the antilock brakes. At 16400 miles I took the truck to the dealer any they replaced the Control Anti-lock brake system and Module. Part numbers 68143491AA & 68347098AB. As of this week with 24400 miles on the truck I am getting the same intermittent message. The the message comes up with shuts down cruise control, makes a chime noise and turns on dash lights. The message will come up stopped to moving at any speed.
ABS and Traction Control warning lights flash on and off constantly and there is a warning tone that beeps non-stop on my 2018 Ram 2500. When these warnings appear, the ABS System and the Traction Control are disabled along with the cruise control. This has happened twice already, and my truck only has 4000 miles on it. The first time was in October 2021 when the truck had under 3000 miles on it. The dealership replaced the ABS pump which fixed the problem temporarily. In August 2022 the same problem appeared, and the same warning lights came on. At this time the truck had around 4000 miles on it. I took the truck in for service in October 2022 and even though the truck was out of warranty, I still had an extended warranty contract. This time I was told it was the ABS Control Module and that the part was on backorder for 3 months or more and that since they could not get the part I was not covered by the extended warranty and was charged a $175.00 diagnostic fee, but that if they were able to get the part that I would have been covered by the warranty. All the dealership was able to do was reset the code which lasted for about 20 minutes before the problem started again. It is now December 28, 2022, and I have had to drive around for the last 6 months with the dashboard flashing and the truck constantly beeping and with the ABS, Traction Control and Cruise Control disabled. I have seen hundreds of complaints regarding the same problem and yet Dodge has not issued a recall regarding this issue. It's beyond comprehension that my truck has had the same problem twice and it only has 4000 miles on it and now Dodge is telling everybody that the part is not available until next year, and so everybody that has this same problem has to drive their truck around with flashing warning lights on the dashboard and a constant dinging tone which gets very distracting and annoying, and on top of that their ABS and Traction Control is disabled. This was my first and last Dodge.
In July 2022, the esc/abs dash lights as well as the ‘service electronic brake/service ABS’ warning began intermittently flashing with resultant loss of traction control and ABS including cruise control. It would continue to activate/deactivate numerous times over the next couple of months. The dealer has identified the hydraulic control module as defective requiring complete replacement of the HCU and ABS system. Online search shows this to be a common known problem along with well over 100 complaints filed with the NHTSA regarding model years 2017-2018. Interestingly, there is a recall for this very problem for the same truck series years 2019-2022 for the same part. There are over 2500 orders for this part and my dealer is not allowed to place an order until mid February because of the backlog endangering my life to use my only vehicle that can be used in the snow this winter. Dodge is clearly not supporting its customer base with providing a known defective part replacement in a reasonable time frame forcing those that don’t have an alternative vehicle to risk their lives and those on the road around them by driving a 7000 pound vehicle that can lose control and not be able to stop given that we are now in the middle of winter.
Service electronic brake system and service antilock brake system comes on intermittently which disables traction , cruise and antilock brake control systems when it happens, very dangerous in slippery weather
Lost braking power. Anti-Lock brakes quit working. Lost cruise control. Unable to use anti-lock brakes. Brakes locked when stopping. Flashing dash alarm saying service ABS/Electronic Braking System. All occurring without reason, just randomly. This puts my safety and the safety of others at risk as the brakes lock up when depressed at times as well as loss of braking power.
Brakes seem to be intermittent. Check Electric Brake warning comes on every time you start the truck and has shutdown the ABS and cruise control options. This is a very big problem if you research it on the internet on Ram and Mopar forums.
Intermittent failure of the electronic braking system. Audible Warning tone and indication "Service Electronic Braking System" followed by "Service antilock braking system" experienced intermittently. The multiple warnings automatically disabled the antilock brakes, stability control, and cruise control as well as producing annoying audible tone. This failure originally began occurring in August 2020 and was taken to the local Ram dealer in September 2020 when it was diagnosed as a defective 68143491aa hydraulic control unit module. After a three week lead time, the module was replaced under warranty with 12116 miles on the vehicle and the problem disappeared. Two years later in July 2022, the same warnings began intermittently with the same disabling safety issues at 24000 miles. On 10/19/2022, the Ram dealer diagnosed the problem as "Abs Control Module 68143491aa Has Internal Short. Part Is On Backorder With No Eta". I have repeatedly checked on the status of the part with the Ram dealer resulting in the same "Backorder with No ETA" response. In November 2022, I filed a formal complaint with Ram Cares. They have provided the same response "Unplanned resource requirement resulting in supply disruption. No firm ETA to provide at this time. Working to improve". This failure is a safety issue, not just an inconvenience and annoyance. My Ram 2500 is periodically used to haul a 10000lb trailer. The sudden loss of cruise control, stability control , and antilock brakes could cause and accident resulting in property damage and injury or death.
Service Electronic Braking System and Service ABS system lights are flashing intermittently and the ABS and traction control lights are on. Dealer has indicated the hydraulic control unit is bad and needs replaced but they no longer manufacture that part and there are no aftermarket offerings so vehicle cannot be repaired until parts are located. In the meantime these vehicles affected have no anti-lock brakes and the cruise control randomly shuts off if the ABS light flashes while cruise is enabled.
ABS Hydraulic Control Unit and Electronic Control Unit Failure. ABS MIL and Traction MIL began turning ON and OFF intermittently during daily driving, sometimes turning ON and OFF over 50 times during a 20-mile drive. Lights up the dash and sounds a beep to inform the driver, while displaying a message on the dashboard screen. Again, this occurs every time the alarm activates. No dealership was able to get me in for an appointment when the issue first began. Took into the dealership today for diagnosis. The technician immediately knew the problem when I said the ABS light was blinking randomly and noted that he has seen this with all 2018 RAM 2500s. The first safety issue is regarding the loss of situational awareness while driving caused by distracting alarm systems. The second safety issue is that ABS WILL NOT work if the alarm is active, effectively setting up the driver to be placed into a dangerous situation during inclement weather conditions where ABS might mean life or death during a hard braking situation. The ABS system is only covered under a basic warranty with Dodge (3yr or 36K). The ABS system failed around 36K, but due to dealership waitlists, I was not able to be seen until 41K. The cost for total ABS HCU and control unit replacement is around $1500.
39,125 miles - 2018 RAM 2500 6.4L (purchased new in 2019), intermittent ABS / traction control light and alarm dinging! Dealership diagnosed it as the ABS / hydraulic control unit with code C0020-07. Many reports of this same issue can be found online from RAM owners having this exact issue, most are just out of the warranty. Low or backorder status of the replacement parts also suggests an issue. ABS function and cruise control are disabled when the error occurs and no way to know when or how long the issue and alarm dinging will last. This is a major safety problem that should be a recall.
The electronic brake light and ABS warning goes off intermittent and with hitting bumps. When this happens the cruise control shuts off. This leads me to believe that the antilock brakes and and will malfunction in a panic stop. This is a repeat issue, dealership has replaced the HCU and ABS modules twice within a three year window.
The abs and traction control light is on and chimes non stop and my cruise control will not work when the abs and traction control is defective. It needs the abs pump replaced as do many of these trucks. The next issue is the computer sceen is delaminated and is wanting you to adjust the time and chimes non stop, so it will not allow you to turn on your defrosters so you can see the road. This truck is so unsafe it now just sits in my barn while I drive my 2005 ram with 210000 mile on it! The repair cost is around 5000,00 for a truck with 48,000 miles on it! All safty issues!
Service Electronic Braking system and Service ABS braking system messages with accompanying chimes occur every 2-3 seconds while driving. This turns off the traction control and abs as well as the speed control. Diagnosis reveals abs control module and hydraulic brake control unit needs to be replaced. Vehicle only has 60,000 miles. Parts are discontinued according to dealer site.

ABS Electronic Brake System warning. "Service Antilock Brake System" warning as well as "Service ABS System" warning. Warnings are intermittent. It is available for inspection. Traction control light is on and braking seems difficult. I have not taken to a dealer because of prohibitive costs. This vehicle has not been inspected as it is a very common problem for this model truck. The problem has been intermittent for the past year or approximately 5000 miles driven (with only a total of 48,000 miles on the vehicle.
I have been having intermittent ABS/traction control lights flashing on my dash. When I hooked my truck up to my DTC code reader, it says I have a C0020-21 stored. ABS pump motorcontrol - general electrical failure. I have noticed thousands of complaints on various websites about the same issue. My truck only has 38,000 miles on it. This must be a defective part.....I called and asked my local dealership about this and they said its a very common issue. I believe it is a safety issue because it reduces the trucks ability to stop quickly, it may cause my truck to swerve in an emergency stop situation, and if this happens while the cruise control is on it turns the cruise control off unexpectedly. This happened to me in a bad rainstorm and caused my truck to swerve into the next lane over. I asked the dealer when they could get to repairing it and thy told me it would be months before they could repair it and it would cost approximately 1,800 dollars. They told me to just keep driving it with the error codes active. This is ridiculous. This part needs to be recalled because it affects thousands of vehicles and it is unsafe. My vehicle is available for inspection.
Driving the ABS and Traction Control light comes on randomly, when on neither the ABS or Traction Control work when light is on. Cruise control is also not working when light comes on. Took Ram to dealer, they tested and stated a failure of ABS Module, took over a month to get in as they are in demand. Dealer stated this is a common issue and parts are backordered. ABS Module was replaced and system is still not working. This is a safety concern as no ABS and Traction control make the vehicle unsafe to operate. I do have the old ABS module on hand after dealer replaced old one. Dealer is trying their best, but always have one or two on lot with issue. Stopping and handling are hazardous when system goes out.
While driving and sometimes sitting still, the Service Antilock Brake System warning will flash on and off rapidly. Then go off. When this happens cruse control stops working. Antilock brake functions no longer work. And traction control no longer works. I found this out while driving on snow and ice covered roads recently. I was stopping at an intersection, and the ABS system started to work then turned off and my tires locked up, causing me to slide into the intersection. Fortunately no one else was at the intersection. Online forums show a great number of low mileage Ram trucks like mine with this issue. Seems to be a failure of the motors on the hydraulic control unit.
Constant warning to service electronic braking system kicks out cruise control. According to ram this is a known problem with related module
Abs and tc lights come on and ding randomly, freedom service told me it’s a hydraulic pump and causes a safety issue it also knocks cruise control off when it happens. The dealership said they have changed many so I am sure ram is aware of this issue.
the service abs and service traction control come on if i hit any bump on the road, seems to be a common problem with this vehicle model.
I HAVE A 2018 RAM 2500 WITH 24320 MILES ON IT. THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT/ ABS/EBS SERVICE LIGHTS COME ON WHEN DRIVING. THE SPEED CONTROL GOES OFF. I HAVE SEEN ON THE RAM FORUM THAT THIS IS COMMON ON THIS AND THE 2017 YEARS TOO. MY QUESTION IS IF THERE ARE SEVERAL 100 PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. WHY HAVE YOU NOT ISSUED A RECALL. THIS WILL GET SOMEON KILLED IF THEY ARE NOT CAREFUL.
