THOUGHT IT MAY BE MUD COMING OUT OF WHEELS CAUSING A BALANCE PROBLEM. CONTINUED TRIP. DROVE ABOUT 130 MILES. WENT OVER SMALL BUMPS AND FRONT END STARTED VIOLENTLY SHAKING.HAD TO STOP ON SIDE OF ROAD. CAME HOME AND RESEARCHED PROBLEM. FOUND OTHERS HAVE SAME PROBLEM REFERRED TO AS "DEATH WOBBLE" THIS COULD CAUSE PROBLEMS IF IN HEAVY TRAFFIC OR IF PULLING A TRAILER. WHILE MY DEALERSHIP HAS TAKEN CARE OF MY 3 ISSUES HERE, I WANT TO LET FOLKS KNOW: FRONT END STEERING. 2 YRS AFTER PURCHASE, I STARTED TO HAVE FRONT END STEERING SHIMMY. THE FIRST TIME, THE TIE ROD BECAME LOOSE, AND WAS REPLACED BY THE DEALERSHIP. 2ND TIME, I WAS BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY, (LOOSE SAND) AND THE TIE ROD END LITERALLY SNAPPED IN 2, RENDERING THE STEERING USELESS. READING THE LADIES STORY ABOUT HER HUSBAND BEING TICKETED FOR FALLING ASLEEP WHEN I HAVE HAD IT HAPPEN TO MY TRUCK I THOUGHT I NEEDED TO SPEAK OUT. DRIVE LINE ISSUE: THE SUPPORT BEARING ON THE DRIVE SHAFT, WENT WHILE DRIVING WITH OUT NOTICE. LUCKILY I WAS DRIVING DOWN MY DRIVE WAY WHICH IS ABOUT 500 FEET LONG AND WASN'T GOING BUT ABOUT 15 MPH. IT HAD TO BE TOWED IN AND WAS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. I LOVE MY TRUCK AND CURRENTLY HAVE 136K MILES ON IT. THE FUEL MILEAGE WASN'T IMPRESSIVE BUT MINOR MODS HAVE BROUGHT IT CLOSER TO 20 MPG WHEN EMPTY. I THINK I STILL HAVE PICTURES OF BOTH THE SNAPPED TIE ROD AND WHEN IT WAS WORE OUT. LUCKILY I WASN'T GOING FAST WHEN THE SNAP HAPPENED, BUT THE SAND SHOULDN'T HAVE TORQUED THE TIE ROD SO HARD TO SNAP IT WHEN BACKING OUT OF THE DRIVE WAY.

WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM WORK ONE EVENING MY TRUCK STARTED MAKING THE MOST AWFUL GRINDING SOUND COMING FROM THE FRONT PASSENGER TIRE. THEN MY ABS LIGHT AND SERV 4WD LIGHT CAME ON THE DASH. A FEW SECONDS LATER THE TUCKED BOBBLED AND WEAVED AND I COULD NO LONGER STEER IT. WHEN I GOT OUT TO LOOK AT THE PROBLEM THE WHEEL ITSELF WAS RESTING ON THE HUB ASSEMBLY. PREVIOUS TO THIS I'VE HAD TO REPLACE FRONT END PARTS LIKE CRAZY. NEW BALL JOINTS AND I JOINTS ANNUALLY. BRAKES TWICE A YEAR, AND IT WILL EAT UP TIRES ON THE FRONT. ALSO THE TRUCK WILL NOT STAY ALIGNED. I'VE CONTACTED CHRYSLER AND FIRST THEY WERE VERY HELPFUL, BUT THEN THEY STARTED TO GIVE ME THE RUN AROUND. I'VE HAD TO HAVE THEIR TIE ROD END RECALL FIXED SEVERAL TIMES AS WELL.

FOR THE STEERING, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND THE BRAKES. IN 18MOS MY TRUCK WAS IN THE SHOP 6 TIMES, FOR REPAIRS {UNACCEPTABLE}. WE WERE DRIVING ON A ARTERIAL ST AT ABOUT 35, WHEN I HEARD A SNAP. WE SUDDENLY WENT INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC WHERE WE SIDESWIPED A SM SUV. WENT THRU TWO FENCES AND CRASHED INTO A HUGE SHOP TRAVELING ABOUT 210 YARDS. MY HUSBAND WAS CITED FOR NEG 2. HE STATED HE CAME TO IN THE SHOP, THE OFFICER REPORTED HE FEEL ASLEEP. MY VEHICLE WAS A TOTAL LOSS. THE AUTO SOURCE FROM THE INS. FOR THE PAYOFF , HAD A LIST OF RECALLS FOR MY VEHICLE ONE OF THEM WAS FOR THE TIE-ROD. WE RECALLED SEEING THE TRUCKS TIE-ROD HAD BEEN BROKEN AT THE SCENE. SO I TRIED TO GET MY INS TO INVESTIGATE. THEY SAID HIS TICKET WAS WHAT THEY HAD TO USE FOR DECIDING FAULT .SO I CONTACTED CHRYSLER THEY WOULDN'T TALK TO ME THEY GAVE ME A CARE NO AND SAID AN INVESTIGATOR WOULD COME IN 5 DAYS, HE CAME AND GOT ALL THE PICTS THEY WANTED DOWNLOADED THE BRAIN HISTORY ,EVERYTHING THEY COULD WANT. THEN TOLD ME HE COULD ONLY GIVE THIS INFO TO CHRYSLER, DENYING ME ANY OF IT. LATER CHRYSLER INFORMED ME BY LETTER THAT THE TIE-ROD FAILURE AGE WAS FROM THE ACCIDENT NOT THE CAUSE OF IT. I ASK IF THE WOULD CONSIDER THE WORK ORDERS THAT LYTHIA HAD GAVE ME {THAT CLEARLY STATES THEY WERE BEYOND SPECIFICATION, NEVER WARNING ME OF THE DANGERS} AND THE PICTS. I TOOK. I COULDN'T AFFORD TO FAX THEM AND THEY REFUSED ME AN EMAIL ADDRESS TO SEND THEM. THAT EVIDENCE WAS NOT CONSIDERED. THEY HAVE NOT SETTLED THIS WITH ME ONLY REFUSED THEIR LIABILITY. IT WAS REPORTED TO ME BY GRADY AMBULANCE IN ATLANTA GEORGIA THAT THEIR RAM 3500 AMBULANCES, YEARS 2010 THRU 2013, WERE EXPERIENCING COMPLETE LOSS OF STEERING DUE TO THE FRACTURING OF THE DRAG LINK TO PITMAN ARM BALL JOINT DURING LOW SPEED HIGH TURN ANGLE PARKING LOT MANEUVERS. ELEVEN VIN'S WERE SENT TO ME, WHICH RANGED BETWEEN 2010-2013 MODEL YEARS, AND MILEAGE RANGING FROM APPROXIMATELY 80K -140K MILES. IT WAS REPORTED AND VERIFIED THROUGH WARRANTY THAT SOME OF THESE 11 VEHICLES HAD RECALL 13V-529 PERFORMED FOR THE TIE ROD PRIOR TO THE DRAG LINK BALL JOINT FRACTURING, AND SOME OF THE 11 VEHICLES DID NOT HAVE 13V-529 CAMPAIGN PERFORMED PRIOR TO THE DRAG LINK BALL JOINT FRACTURING. THE REPLACEMENT OF THE DRAG LINK "END" WHERE THE BALL JOINT WAS FRACTURING WAS NOT PART OF RECALL CAMPAIGN 13V-529 SO GRADY WAS PURCHASING THE DRAG LINK END SERVICE PARTS FROM LOCAL DEALERSHIPS AND REPLACING AT THEIR OWN EXPENSE. I RECEIVED 3 OF THE DRAG LINK ENDS, SHIPPED FROM ATLANTA TO MY OFFICE AT FCA US LLC IN AUBURN HILLS. I NOTIFIED MY MANAGEMENT OF THIS AND GAVE 2 OF THE 3 DRAG LINK ENDS WITH FRACTURED STUDS TO THE MATERIALS LAB FOR QUICK ANALYSIS. ALL 3 DRAG LINK ENDS AND BALL JOINTS APPEARED VISUALLY TO HAVE EXACTLY EXACTLY THE SAME FAILURE MODE, WHICH AT FIRST GLANCE WAS A FATIGUE FRACTURE (2 PC SEPARATION) THROUGH THE SHANK OF THE BALL STUD. FCA MATERIALSL LAB CONFIRMED FATIGUE WAS ROOT CAUSE. ALL MATERIAL SPECIFICATIONS WERE WITHIN SPEC. NO EVIDENCE OF BALL JOINT OVERARTICULATION WAS APPARENT.

I FILED A CLAIM WITH FCA REGARDING THE ABILITY TO SURRENDER MY VEHICLE UNDER THE CONSENT ORDER REACHED WITH FCA IN JULY 2015 . I SUBMITTED MY CLAIM WITH THEM ON 10/1/2015. I BEEN GIVEN NOTHING BUT A RUN AROUND. I NOTIFIED FCA ON 9/04/2015 REGARDING MY DESIRE TO BE APART OF THE RECALL PROCESS. I HAVE SUBMITTED ALL DOCUMENTS REQUESTED. WHICH I BOUGHT A REPLACEMENT VEHICLE BECAUSE THE REPRESENTATIVE THAT I SPOKE WITH ON 10/1/2015 STATED THAT I SHOULD NOT DRIVE MY VEHICLE MY DODGE RAM IF I AM CONCERNED WITH MY PERSONNEL SAFETY, IS NOW IS PRESENTING ISSUES WITH ME REGARDING THE RECALL PROCESS AS WELL AS WITH THE 2 VEHICLES I PURCHASED ON 10/4/2015. I LOST THE USE OF THE ADDITIONAL INCENTIVE THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE OFFERED. I HAVE HAD TWO RECALLS FROM CHRYSLER ON THIS TRUCK AND THEY HAVE FAILED TO PROVIDE THE NECESSARY PARTS TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR. THE FIRST RECALL WAS N49 FROM NOV. 6TH 2013. YES, THAT'S 2013, OVER TWO TEARS AGO. THIS IS TO REPAIR A STEERING COMPONENT THAT COULD FAIL AND CAUSE LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. I ALSO HAVE A RECALL P65 FROM OCT. 7TH 2014. THIS IS TO REPAIR A FUEL COMPONENT THAT COULD FAIL AND CAUSE A FIRE IN THE VEHICLE. BOTH OF THESE ITEMS PRESENT SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUES TO THE OPERATORS AND PASSENGERS OF THE VEHICLE. PLEASE HELP ME TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE WITH THE UNRESPONSIVE AUTO MANUFACTURER.

I HAVE THE ORIGINAL TIRES ON IT STILL. I DON'T OFF ROAD NOR DO I USE IT FOR COMMERCIAL USE. IN NOV 2011, WITH 19K MILES, I HAD THE LEFT TIE ROD REPLACED AS THE BALL JOINT PART WORE OUT AND WAS HANGING. THEN I GOT THE NOTICE IN DEC 13 OF THIS NEW TIE ROD ISSUE, I THOUGHT IT TO BE ONE IN THE SAME. I DEPARTED MY HOUSE FOR WORK. WITH NO NOTICE, AS I WAS BACKED OUT A DIRT DRIVEWAY, I HEARD A POP, IT SOUNDED LIKE SOMETHING WAS DRAGGING. I STOPPED, LOOKING UNDER THE FRONT AND BACK THINKING I HAD PICKED UP SOMETHING, THERE WAS NOTHING. AS I TRIED TO MOVE FORWARD, THE SCRAPING SOUND APPEARED AGAIN, I STOPPED, LOOKED UP UNDER THE FRONT END FINDING THE DRAG LINK HANGING ABOUT 8 INCHES OFF THE TIE ROD END. I CALLED THE DODGE CONTACT NUMBER IN THE BOOK. THIS WAS 340 AM.. I EXPLAINED WHAT HAPPENED AND HE STATED THAT HE WOULD BUILD A JOB ORDER FOR IT. I CONTACTED THE DEALER,(8 AM) HE ASKED ME TO LOOK AT THE DRAG LINK AND SEE WHAT TYPE OF STABILIZER SYSTEM I HAD MOUNTED ON IT. I HAD 2 U BOLT CONNECTORS ABOUT HALF MASS OF THE DRAG LINK. THE DEALERSHIP THEN STATED THAT KNOWING THAT, I NEEDED TO HAVE THE DRAG LINK REPLACED, AND THAT IT WOULD BE COVERED UNDER THIS RECALL. HE THEN STATED THAT AS IT WAS MOUNTED, THE STABILIZER DIDN'T ALLOW THE DRAG LINK TO ROTATE PROPERLY CAUSING UNDUE STRESS ON THE TIE ROD END JOINT. I WAS THEN TOLD THAT THE DEALERSHIP HAD INSPECTED 15 TRUCKS SO FAR AND ALL 15 NEEDED THESE PARTS REPLACED, BUT DODGE STILL DIDN'T' HAVE THE REPLACEMENT PARTS AVAILABLE AND WOULDN'T BE UNTIL AROUND THE 14TH OF APRIL 14. MIND YOU THIS RECALL WAS PUT OUT IN DEC 2013 4 MONTHS AGO.... STILL AS OF TODAY WITH NO PARTS CURRENTLY AVAILABLE.. I WANTED TO TALK TO A SUPERVISOR, SHE SAID THEIR OFFICE DOESN'T WORK LIKE THAT..... ON JUNE 11, 2013 I WAS BACKING INTO MY GARAGE WHEN I LOST MY STEERING CAPABILITY FOR MY VEHICLE. I EXITED MY VEHICLE TO TRY AND DETERMINE WHAT MAY HAVE CAUSED THIS. I NOTICED THE TIE ROD ON THE DRIVERS SIDE HANGING DOWN TO THE GROUND. I HAD MY VEHICLE TOWED TO THE NEAREST DODGE DEALER(ZIMMERMAN'S ENTERPRISES) IN SUNBURY PA. THE TIE ROD REPLACEMENT WAS COVERED UNDER A SAFETY RECALL AND WAS REPLACED THE FOLLOWING DAY. DUE TO THE TIE ROD BEING BAD IT CAUSED MY DRIVERS SIDE FRONT TIRE TO BECOME CUPPED AND DAMAGED. I ASKED THE SALES MANAGE AT ZIMMERMAN'S DODGE ABOUT THE FAULTY TIRE AND HE TOLD HE TO JUST ROTATE IT TO THE REAR. THE FOUR TIRES ON MY TRUCK WERE PURCHASED IN FEBRUARY. ALL FOUR TIRES WERE ROTATED IN MAY AFTER APPROX. 5,000 MILES. THE TIRE THAT WAS WORN OUT BECAUSE OF THE FAULTY TIE ROD WOULD NOT PASS INSPECTION WHEN I QUESTIONED MY MECHANIC. I DECIDED TO KEEP GOING STRAIGHT INSTEAD OF TURNING LEFT SO I STRAIGHTENED THE TRUCK OUT AND PROCEEDED FORWARD ABOUT 50 YARDS DOWN AT A STOP SIGN I SAW AN EMPTY ON THE LEFT AND PROCEEDED TO TURN TOWARDS IT. THE POP I HAD HEARD EARLIER WAS THE ACTUALLY THE DRIVER SIDE TIE ROD SNAPPING AND WHILE TURNING LEFT IT CAUGHT THE SIDEWALL OF THE TIRE AND LOCKED UP THE STEERING ARM AND BENT THE TRAILING ARM. VEHICLE BEGAN MAKING A HISSING NOISE IN THE AREA UNDER THE DASHBOARD ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. WHILE THE ENGINE SPEED WAS MAINTAINED ABOVE 1500 THERE ARE NO NOTICED DRIVABILITY ISSUES. WHEN THE BRAKE IS DEPRESSED OR THE STEERING WHEEL TURNED THE HISSING CEASED. HISSING INDEPENDENT OF ENGINE SPEED. WHILE DRIVING AT ABOUT 35 MPH THE VEHICLE'S POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES FAILED WHILE ENTERING A TURN. TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT I WAS SURPRISINGLY REQUIRED TO USE EXCESSIVE FORCE TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL WHILE STOMPING THE BRAKE TO SLOW THE VEHICLE. THE CAUSE IS A SMALL PLASTIC INSERT IN THE HYDRO ASSIST HOSE THAT BREAKS LOOSE AND THEN MOVES ALONG THE HOSE UNTIL IT GETS PRESSED INTO A 90 DEGREE ANGLE CUTTING OFF OR REDUCING THE FLUID FLOW. *TR

UPON HITTING A BUMP, HUMP, OR HOLE IN THE PAVEMENT WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS THE STEERING WHEEL BEGINS TO VIBRATE AND MOVE SIDE TO SIDE UNEXPECTEDLY; THE FRONT END OF THE TRUCK SHAKES AND BOUNCES VIOLENTLY UNTIL SPEED REDUCES TO NEAR STOP. BRAKES AND STEERING ARE NEAR INEFFECTIVE UNTIL THE VIOLENT SHAKING STOPS. IT FEELS AS IF THE WHOLE FRONT END IS ABOUT TO BREAK LOOSE FROM THE VEHICLE, AND DRIVER CONTROL IS SEVERELY COMPROMISED. THIS HAS HAPPENED 8-10 TIMES IN TWO YEARS OF OWNERSHIP. IT IS ALWAYS UNEXPECTED WITH NO WARNING. I HAVE BECOME VERY UNEASY ABOUT ROAD TRIPS IN THIS VEHICLE. AFTER ACCELERATING ON AN INTERSTATE HIGHWAY ON-RAMP, THE VEHICLE WENT OVER SOME BUMPS THEN STARTED SHAKING VIOLENTLY AT ABOUT 45 MPH. THERE WAS A COMPLETE LOSS OF STEERING AS THE TRUCK VIBRATED AND SHOOK ACROSS LANES, BUT I WAS ABLE TO SOMEHOW AVOID COLLISIONS WITH OTHER VEHICLES AND SAFELY PULL OFF THE HIGHWAY. AFTER STOPPING AND FINDING NOTHING WRONG, THE VEHICLE WAS SLOWLY ACCELERATED TO INTERSTATE SPEED AND DRIVEN ANOTHER 300 MILES TO DESTINATION WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. A FEW DAYS LATER, A TUCSON DODGE DEALER INSPECTED THE TRUCK AND FOUND TWO ISSUES. FIRST, THE FRONT STEERING DAMPER WAS FOUND TO BE DEFECTIVE AND WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. THE SECOND ITEM, AN IMBALANCED FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE WHEEL, WAS FOUND AND CORRECTED. THE PROBLEM HAS NOT RECURRED, BUT I AM EXTREMELY NERVOUS ABOUT THE EVENT REPEATING ITSELF, PARTICULARLY IF IT HAPPENS WHEN PULLING A 5TH WHEEL TRAILER. I AM NOT CONFIDENT THAT THE VIOLENT SHAKING OF THE VEHICLE AND LOSS OF STEERING WAS CAUSED BY A DEFECTIVE STEERING DAMPENER AND A SLIGHTLY OUT-OF-BALANCE FRONT WHEEL. THIS PROBLEM, AN APPARENTLY SOMEWHAT WIDESPREAD OCCURRENCE AMONG DODGE TRUCKS, HAS BEEN WIDELY REPORTED AS THE "DEATH WOBBLE" THROUGHOUT THE PAST 8 YEARS OR SO.
