2018 RAM 3500 Electrical System Problems

My vehicle is included in safety recall 24V-896 for a defective HCU (Hydraulic Control Unit). I have contacted the dealership multiple times, but the replacement part is never available. This recall affects critical safety systems including ABS and Electronic Stability Control. Despite being a safety recall, there is no estimated timeline for repair due to part unavailability. I am concerned about driving a vehicle with an unresolved safety defect. The manufacturer has been unable to provide the recall repair for an extended period.

Recall C4B with known issue and known remedy but “no parts available.” Contacted RAM and with no parts they have no solution. You can rent an auto out of pocket and possibly be reimbursed. No option for buyback or solution. Recall came out 12/5/2024.

After stopping at the local dealer monthly concerning this safety recall I am told every time that the part is not available. I am left driving this truck in an unsafe state and am concerned for public safety as well as my own. No assistance is ever offered and there is no eta on when to expect the needed parts. This is a known issue that a safety recall has been issued for but RAM is taking no action to correct.

The Hydraulic brake control has been a recall with no replacement part available for over 2 years and this causes many safety functions to not work properly including trailer braking. They have made parts for a 2500 model but neglected to fix the 3500, 4500 and 5500 models. They will fix it with another faulty sensor and still expect owner to pay a 1700 repair bill even though it’s a recall. It’s ridiculous on the time this is taking.

My HCU has failed I had a car pull into my lane on the freeway and my truck and fifth wheel slid for a long period of time. After the close call I contacted the dealership and they said they have no parts to fix the recall. I also contacted the FCA customer care 1 800 853 1403. After many calls and lost calls the Indian man told me it was totally safe to drive my truck he has no clue what a fifth wheel trailer is. I now have a 12400 mile truck i only use to pull my trailer sitting in limbo waiting to be repaired. Seems like when the truck goes through all the chimes and flashing lights I lose my cruise control and trailer brake function how is this safe?

The contact owns a 2018 Ram 3500. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V896000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The contact stated there was an abnormal dinging sound coming from the vehicle while driving. The ABS warning light was illuminated. The traction control symbol was displayed. The service ABS message was displayed. The contact stated that the ParkSense rear sensor message was displayed. The local dealer was contacted, but was unable to repair the vehicle due to parts unavailability. The contact called other local dealers, Huffines Chrysler Jeep Dodge RAM Lewisville (1024 S Stemmons Fwy, Lewisville, TX 75067( and Klement Chrysler Jeep Dodge RAM (3520 US-287, Decatur, TX 76234), but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was called, but there was no answer. The approximate failure mileage was 65,000.

Stellantis is unable to provide a timey remedy for NHTSA Recall Number24V-896. The hydraulic control unit ("HCU") is susceptible to failure or malfunction which may result in a reduction or change of Anti-Lock Brake System ("ABS")/Electronic Stability Control ("ESC") /Traction Control performance. A failing HCU will initially result in the intermittent loss of ABS/Traction control progressing to permanent loss. The loss of ABS/ESC/Traction control may cause a vehicle crash without prior warning. Driving the vehicle is a safety risk to me and the public. The vehicle is garaged at an authorized dealership since 2/13/25 and has resulted in a loss of income totaling $40,000 as the truck was used for transporting heavy loads. Additionally, I have paid $9,000 towards the monthly truck note and insurance for a vehicle that I cannot drive. Stellantis has not provided an adequate solution, and they are ill-equipped to be a manufacturer of vehicles in the United States. Stellantis is actively misrepresenting safety information to the public without any regard for the public’s safety. Out of an abundance of caution, I filed Better Business Bureau complaint case #[XXX] on [XXX] with the Detroit and Eastern Michigan office after Stellantis advised me that the 2018 Ram 3500 was safe to drive even though the recall was not repaired. Stellantis’ response can be viewed by the public at the Better Business Bureau of Detroit and Eastern Michigan’s website. It reads as follows: “We issued this recall out of our commitment to your safety and recommend that you complete the repair as soon as the remedy becomes available. However, please rest assured that you can continue driving your vehicle safely in the meantime." They made 5.5 billion in profit in 2024 and they won't deal fairly regarding a rental vehicle. On 7/17 they told me they would reimburse up to $60 then 8 days later they said up to $50. When I submitted my rental receipts they said their system is down. The stereo malfunctioned on several occasions, I have taken it to the dealer and had a new stereo put in. My safety was at risk because the radio started jumping from station to station and calling people in my contact list. All of these increased concerns and my driving was impacted. This made it impossible to drive safely due to this issue. I had to pull over each time and disconnect my Bluetooth and unplug my phone for hands free driving. This issue caused a very unsafe and distracted event. Yes this has been confirmed. It has not been inspected by the police; this is a huge issue with these trucks there are several complaints that have been turned in. There were no warnings. The radio would work fine and then start going off on a tangent, there is no way to even turn off the radio to prevent this from happening. This needs to be covered by Dodge Ram, this issue is unsafe and could cause an accident.

On May 3, 2025, while driving my 2018 RAM 2500 with approximately 46,000 miles, the check engine light came on and the engine immediately experienced a significant loss of power. The vehicle entered a limp mode condition, drastically reducing speed and acceleration. I was forced to pull into a nearby business as the truck could not maintain safe highway speeds, creating a traffic hazard and contributing to congestion. The vehicle was diagnosed by a repair facility as having a failed turbo actuator, a critical component in regulating turbo boost and engine power delivery. After researching this issue, I have found numerous similar complaints and reports from other RAM truck owners on various owner forums and websites, indicating this may be a recurring and potentially widespread defect in these vehicles. Given that this failure occurred at relatively low mileage, caused a hazardous driving condition, and seems to be a commonly reported problem, I believe this issue warrants investigation by NHTSA for potential safety risks and manufacturer accountability. No injuries or property damage occurred, but the incident posed a significant safety risk to myself and other drivers.

On March 3rd, This dealership replaced the stop sale safety recall on our Commercial vehicle (C4B) with a part that was not created for our truck. This resulted in hydraulic brake fluid spewing out of the HCU all over significant areas under the hood, including the ABS Module and wiring. Upon realizing the HCU was spewing hydraulic brake fluid, we brought the truck back on March 7th, and again, the dealership replaced the HCU with the incorrect part (but assuring us it was the actual part for this specific recall) and Sam (service advisor) told us they would also be replacing the ABS Module and the wiring associated, as the ABS module had also been recently replaced and was still covered under warranty. When we received the car back, Sam (service advisor) explained that they would like the truck back at a later date to replace the wiring - that they have already replaced the ABS module so we will still see the ABS light, but only because the wiring needs to be redone.  We picked up our truck on Friday March 8th, and when my fiancé began his route on [XXX] with his trailer attached, he made it about 20 miles before his truck completely shut down mid-drive while on a busy road- forcing him to have to coast over a 4 lane roadway and into a ditch avoiding collision of oncoming traffic with his trailer and equipment attached. We discovered that the mechanics had fraudulently replaced our HCU with another trucks HCU and had to force the recall through Mopar's reimbursement process, as it was rejected multiple times because the remedy is not currently available therefore unable to be completed. Constant service electronic braking system and service ABS warning lights, loss of all traction control. It started as a intermittent loss of of these systems and now it is a total loss. There is nothing I can do to make it go away or function correctly. I took it to the dealer to talk about the recall and asked if I could go ahead and pay to have the replacement parts installed and they told me everything was unavailable. This problem has been going on for over two months. It is unsafe, now I don't have any ABS or traction control in the middle of the winter, this is the worst possible time this could happen. How can there not be a alternative solution? Someone is going to crash and get killed.

HI, My 2018 RAM 3500, had had a Anti-lock brake control module light on and off about a hundred times a day for the past year, I just spoke to the Ram Service manager at Leith Ram in Wendel NC and she told me that Ram has no fix for this part, and it has been on backorder for over 2.5 years, you can have total brake failure with this part being defective, how has the NTSB not stepped in and put some pressure on them to get this fixed, there are hundreds of thousands of trucks out there with this problem. Why is it being allowed to continue for years and years without a solution??

The service electronic braking system and service abs system continues to ding and pop up on screen. Cruise control will not work either.

ABS-Hydraulic Control Unit failure, pump motor control electrical failure. Confirmed/ Diagnosed by dealer. Messages on dash info screen: "service electronic braking system", "ABS failure", warning lights : Traction Control and ABS failure. Safety risk when warning message appears: ABS, Traction Control and Cruise Control are non- functional.

The service antilock brake system is constantly going off and the dealer says there is nothing they can do and no parts are available. We took it in and they ran a diagnostic and said they didnt know why and will not help us.

ABS and Electric Brake failure. Second time this has been fixed. Once at roughly 30,000 miles and now again at 48,000 miles. Paperwork from dealer on both failures is “Internal Pump Failure EL001, Replace HCU. Replace old part SKU with new version…68143491AB” I entered a similar claim with you on this the first time it failed. It seems Chrysler Dodge Ram knows there is an issue based on them using an updated part this time vs last time. Also lots of internet chat forums talking about this issue. Since this is ABS / electric brakes I would think it would be a relatively serious safety concern on their part and with NHTSA. Why is there no recall on this yet? Aside from the obvious of preventing potential fatalities the cost of these pump failures is over $1,000 each time it happens. Thanks in advance for your help

Service Electronic Braking Service and Service ABS/TRACTION CONTROL. This is intermittent. When it happens Cruise control, 4 wheel drive and abs doesn't work. Happens when I'm towing my camper or not. Trailer brakes won't work when this happens. Hundreds, maybe thousands of complaints about this on Ram forums. This problem occurs no matter what the speed is. It even happens while sitting still.

Service abs/ service electronic brake system/ traction control alarm flashing on/off intermittently with no specific times or conditions. This first happened in may 2024 on a 6 hour road trip. Occasionally I can take it on a short trip and it may not flash the message during that trip and at other times it is constantly going on and off. I have not had this looked at by the dealer. I have read the codes using my personal scanner and it shows C0020-01 (Active) ABS Pump Motor Control- General Electrical Failure. I do not drive this vehicle daily and I can not relate it to wear and tear because the vehicle only has 23,900 miles on it.

Abs and traction control malfunction. Yes,it’s it available for inspection. I feel that it’s not safe for my wife and I to drive while doing this. No it has not been confirmed by the dealer or service center. No it has not been inspected by police or insurance representatives. No there were not warning and starts at 150k miles have 158962miles on it now

On my 2018 RAM 3500 Duel rear wheel truck the ABS Pump Motor Control Unit is throwing a common code and warning lights intermittently that other year models have (C0020-01). This code has been confirmed by my dealer several times and this truck does not fall under any recalls for the ABS systems. I pull a 40 camper with this truck and with out the ABS and Traction control it could be very dangerous to myself and and others. I have spoken to FCA and they only told me that my VIN does not fall under any more recall then what has already been done. I do not know what needs to get done to have FCA fix this problem or release parts to get it fixed.

Intermittent chime and warning that anti lock brake needs servicing. Cruise control does not work when notice is displayed and chiming. warning comes and goes randomly After researching this problem it appears that this is a regular problem on this year ram truck I will report and take to the dealer if problem remains.

Intermittent issues with the cruise control system and the ABS electronic braking system. The lights will flash on and off and the beeping is constant. If beating on the side of steering wheel will allow you to turn cruise control, then the ABS system will be okay for unknown reasons it will start flashing again and cancel the cruise control and the system will start flashing check the ABS electronic braking systems.

The ABS system failure and traction control lights came on and have been coming on intermittently. This failure has caused the vehicle not to retain cruise control and brake and stability control being reduced or potentially off could result in an accident. Upon research, this is a very common and costly issue not covered by warranty work, this seems to be something Ram should fix as it is a safety issue.

ABS service light comes on and off - this seems to be a chronic problem

Radio and back camera intermittent since I bought it new. Dealership changed it out several times and told me they are just bad radios and just wait until a recall is issued.

We receive a ABS/ECS, electronic brake control warning intermittently. This also makes the cruise control shutoff. We had the ABS control module replaced once at roughly 12000 miles under warranty but it now is giving the same warnings and the truck currently has 22000 miles on it. My dealer stated this was a known issue and stated it’s fairly common on my model truck

I have a 2018 RAM 3500 with ONLY 20,000 miles on it. ABS and HUC critical parts are faulty, and I have no way to even purchase one until a recal is issued. Class Action Says 2017-2018 Ram 2500, 3500 Equipped with Defective Anti-Lock Braking Systems. No current part that resolves this issue. Ram 2500 and 3500 pickups are unsafe because they’re equipped with defective hydraulic control units (HCUs) and anti-lock braking systems (ABS). RAM knows about it and has ALL the modules on engineering hold. These parts have not been available for almost a year. No antilock brakes. No traction control. No cruise control. 4X4 four wheel drive system is locked out and cant be engaged after this warning occurs. Here's what they are telling customers who have filed with them about this. I can’t haul anything or use cruse control. Error lights keep popping up sporadically with dinging sounds, driving me crazy. It is "Service Electronic Brake System" with continuous ABS and STC fault warnings. This truck is dangerous to drive, a recall is a NO BRAINER!!!! I am writing for three reasons. 1. You need to get our dealer the parts now so we may have a safe vehicle, or 2. replace this truck with a new one if you cant repair ours ASAP, and 3. To make sure I have this all documented in case of any serious accident where you will have to assume all liability and responsibility if this occurs due to your lack of ability to repair this safety system.

ABS braking system, electronic braking system warning light and signal is coming on every few seconds when driving. This renders the cruise control to shut off when it comes on. There are numerous safety issues with this coming on and off not to mention it is annoying as…..well let me just leave it there. Have talked to dealers (2) and have been told that dodge has a fix but the parts are still on back order. I have been having this issue for about 6 to 7 months and it is making the truck undrivable for any distance at all due to the nuisance alarm every mile or so.

ABS system - flashes on and off dash, ABS has been inspected by dealership. Dealership said, could replace ABS but it could very likely have the same issue due to part malfunction. This malfunction causes- no cruise control, no traction control, sounding and lighting up on dash constantly.

I have been receiving an error for my electronic braking systems and ABS since July of 2023. I have been to various dealerships to have it fixed and have been told it is on a "galactic back order" - words from Dodge to the service advisors. I have attempted several times to contact Customer Care at Dodge over many months. My cases have been closed without resolution and with false promises of management will reach out to assist me. All I need is the 2 parts to be replaced so that I can use my cruise control and not have the constant dinging of the warning for the ABS and EBS. It has been very annoying and if there is such a large back order with others having this same issue, how come there is not a recall? It is the braking system.

Bought from a dealership a couple months ago (JAN 2024). Immediately started blinking electronic ABS error. Took in to get serviced, and now maintenance department is stating a replacement HCU and additional service will cost around $3.5k on a vehicle that has around 68k miles.

Service and systems and service electronics brake system warnings at approx 50000 miles. Dealer is saying it is an HCU failure

At 9,040 miles, display reads “Service Antilock Brake System” along with warning lights for abs and traction control and a loud dinging. It goes off, then back on multiple times until serviced when the dealership replaced the faulty HCU Sept. 2020 under warranty. Diagnostic code C0020-01 ABS pump motor general electrical failure 2023 the problem comes back but nothing done. 2024 after much research, found the newer replacement HCU had just been revised in April with a new part number. At 25,837 miles back to the dealership for another replacement, this time paying out of pocket, over $300 for part and over $600 for labor. It’s only been a short time but so far, no warning about a faulty abs. I do have the old part if inspection is necessary. There is an FCA service bulletin out #S2005000004; NHTSA #10181550 It says if the HCU doesn’t fix the problem, replace the ECU, but that is not available and no ETA. Lucky to get the HCU because that is a very limited part. This is a safety issue because not only does the ABS and traction control go out but you also lose cruise control and 4wd while driving. There should be a recall with all the complaints. Not sure what good a recall would do if parts aren’t available anyway. Telling someone who just spent a fortune on buying this truck not to drive it because of this, is not an option.

The known issue that Ram refuses to is plaguing my truck. ABS and Traction Control lights come on. This shuts off the cruise control as well as makes braking difficult. It is very dangerous. This is a ticking time bomb. Vehicle has under 50k miles on it. 2017 and 2018 have been known to have faulty ECU Module and HCU. Loss of brakes momentarily occurred on [XXX]. For over 3 months the ABS Brake warning, the anti skid control and the cruise has not worked in my truck. I have had it to two different dealers, and opened a case with Ram. Case#89336043. They told me part is not available and has not been for the past year. Just drive my truck like it is??? I dont really know what options i have at this point. Please help!

Abs/traction control light. Dealer says it needs a new abs module and pump. It’s too new to have these issues, dealer states that it is not a recall and I would have to pay out of pocket ($1600) for the repairs. This is not safe at all. I live in indiana and doesn’t like stopping when the road is snow covered. Ram/chrysler needs to have this recalled immediately. This is very dangerous!!

Getting the "Service Electronic Brake System" alarm. Had this when it was under warranty and it was "Fixed". I am now getting this same error again. ABS, traction control and cruise control are all disabled when this warning occurs.

The ABS light and traction control light comes on intermittently, from my understanding this controls the stopping power of the truck. I have no traction control when I am pulling my camper. The lights will go off and then come back on own their own, even when the truck is sitting still with nothing hooked to it.

Intermittent flashing and dinging for ABS system. Message in dash says “Service Antilock Brake System”. Has been diagnosed and confirmed by credited service shop. The problem occurred around 80 thousand miles, a year or so ago.

Very distracting and makes me unsure of failure of system .Codes and stored messages clear and repeat. Cannot go to dealer every day to have codes read that don’t exist. Parts not available at dealer. How is this fixed?

3 yrs ago, took to dealership for light for electronic brake module, was told that the part was on backorder. Picked up truck and was told that they would let us know when part came in, have called and spoken to at least 11 different service reps and a managers (Dodge as well) over the last 3 years. They close the tickets after a certain amount of time and you have to explain yourself over and over and get the same answer, the part is on national backorder. Our warranty expired 10/2023, there is still no recall on our truck but other truck have a recall. I have tried and called the 1-800 number to get help with this matter and still we have a vehicle that we may cause injury to us or others. Please help!

Abs electronic brake light issue,brakes spongy and feels like it’s lost braking power.

Service Electronic Brake System Warning. This warning started coming on sporadically. When the warning appears in my dash, I will lose abs function, traction control, and cruise control. This appears to be a common problem with this year Ram truck. The fix is an abs module, and or, a hcu module.

The Anti-Lock Brake & Electronic Braking System error caused the internal Trailer Brake system to shut off trailer brakes just like it shuts off the cruise control when warnings come up on the dashboard. The incident happened Aug 28, 2023 while following my son and my wife in a vehicle ahead of me. I had to change lanes to try to avoid something that suddenly came across in front of my vehicle. I applied the brakes and then the trailer acted like it didn't have any brakes fell over & was totaled. If this was in traffic someone could have been killed. The "Check Anti-Lock Brake System" & "Check Electronic Brake System" warnings started coming up intermittently as I drove my RAM 3500 Diesel truck starting sometime around July 2023. I drove to the local RAM dealer and told them about the problem. They acted like they had never heard of this problem and proceeded to check the error code and then stated they had never heard of this error before. They said they would check with RAM engineering on what needed to be done. They then said there were other similar RAM trucks with the same issue & that the parts were on back order. I finally got an appointment for the dealer to check my truck after sending an email to the Service Supervisor. After they checked my truck on August 16, 2023 they said that my truck needed a new Anti-Lock Brake Control Module. I had seen that many others on the internet blogs had stated that both the Anti-Lock Brake Control Module and the Hydraulic Control Module (HCM) needed to be replaced. I was then told by the service person that the Anti-Lock Brake Control Module would not be available for months (until sometime in December) and the Hydraulic Control Module (HCU) had no date of availability. They also checked with the RAM technicians at the dealership about safety driving the truck and towing a trailer until the part came in. They told me that only the Anti-Lock Brakes may not work so it would be safe to continue to drive it and tow a trailer.

Traction control and abs lights have been coming on randomly while driving over the past several years. Seems worse and more frequent in cold temperatures. Scanner reads code C0020. Cruise control suddenly shuts off when this happens causing a safety hazard especially to those traveling behind. Dash lights and constant chimes are very distracting while driving. No abs makes winter driving more dangerous as well. Seems to be a common problem with this vehicle. There should be a recall issued to fix this.

Service electronic brake system, & service hydraulic brake system warning lights intermittently display on dash. Disables both of those safety features as well as cruise control. These are very important safety features especially when hauling a load!

ABS and traction control warning lights intermittently come on. Has been repaired twice by local dealership by replacing the two computer modules/pumps responsible for ABS system. Cruise control disengages when this happens. When this happens at highway speeds while pulling a heavy trailer in traffic it's a very dangerous situation and needs to be corrected by manufacturer.

My 2018 Dodge Ram with 7175 miles on it has a continuous service anti lock brake and service electric brake light go on and off.Cruise control inoperable as it shuts off when the warning lights go on and off.Dealer did a $160.00 diagnostic on the system that I had to pay for only to tell me the hydraulic control unit needs to be replaced at a total cost of $825.00 that I am responsible for.Additionally,the part is “controlled” by the manufacturer and they are allotted one unit per week.No time frame when the vehicle will be repaired.This is a safety issue especially when the constant “chime “ goes off which is very distracting.I haul a camping trailer with this Ram 3500 duelly four door diesel four wheel drive and the braking is questionable.

My ABS and Traction Control components in my 2018 1-ton Ram are intermittently setting codes with the ECU, leading to loss of ABS, Traction Control, and inability to use my cruise control. I am concerned that I have a loss in braking performance without those components operating as designed. I have brought my truck to the local Ram dealer only to be told that the module will not be available for install until Feb of 2024 after an upgraded unit is made available to the dealers. I feel that this should be a recall, as a quick internet search shows multiple owners of the same vehicle are also affected. Purchased this truck specifically to tow 14000 lb fifth wheel camper. Two months ago warning chime and “service electronic brake system, Service antilock brakes and Traction Control” caution lights repeatedly activate. I am concerned about towing in this condition if operating on rain slick roads and winter weather. Also the constant chime is a serious distraction. Truck is currently at the dealership for repair. 25000 on the odometer. Truck is out of warranty. These failed safety systems endanger mine and my family’s lives, as well as other motorist and the public.

ABS and Electric Brake System warning lights are on and off intermittently. These symptoms have been reported by many other owners due to defected part installation from the manufactor based on my internet research.

Anti-Lock Braking system and Electronic Braking system, service system warning come on and off randomly all the time. When this happens, cruise control does not work. Had it replaced at the dealership once and It started doing the same thing. Took it back and they said they didn’t know what was wrong with it And that they didn’t want me thinking they didn’t want to do warranty work. The warnings were coming on and off more frequent. Abs light and traction control light comes on and off all day long. Brakes will lock up if you’re using cruise control when the abs and traction control light come on. Both lights come on at the same time. The parts needed for this issue is on back order.

my 2018 Ram 3500 had less than 36,000 miles when the anti-lock brake system and service electronic brake system alarms began randomly flashing. this happens now every few seconds and so speed/cruise control no longer functions, also anti-lock and skid prevention has failed. Dealers have 3 month back order on the Hydraulic Control Unit, leaving owners the choice of operating an unsafe vehicle, or parking it for months.

Truck gets a service electronic braking check engine light and disables traction control as well as the cruise control. The braking becomes disabled at random times. Taken the unit to the dealership just to be told the part has been backordered for over 2 years and that they cannot sell me the HBU to repair it. They said they could remove the unit and have it shipped off to be remanufactured but my truck will be inop for min 2 weeks. Was told the part I needed 68143491AB

ABS and traction lights come on intermittently with the brakes feeling different.Diagnostic shows code C0020-01 which is apparently a very common issue with 2018 Rams.Dealer told me today(10-25-23) no part’s available at the earliest will be Feb. of 2024.This truck has 81000 miles on it and is my daily driver.I would hope Ram steps up and fixes problems at NO CHARGE for everyone effected.

Dashboard ABS and Traction Control Lights come on intermittently with message to service breaking system. The lights are accompanied by loud audio alarms. The audio alarms usually cycle through a minimum of three times; sometime five. The dashboard ABS and Traction lights reset by themselves. Scanner codes identify an electrical problem with the ABS HCU and/or hydraulic pump. Dealership maintenance and service departments advise new parts are not available but to check back frequently for supply updates. If/when repair parts become available, this repair will be the second time I have endured this problem. Also, I have been able to reset the above dashboard alerts and audio alarms without the aid of Bidirectional scanner by cycling my windows down and up. So, I’m not sure if I have an ABS/TC problem or a wiring problem.

The ABS Brake control module malfunctioned causing several electrical issues. Fortunately the vehicle was able to function. RAM Service center noted a wait time of over 3 months. When I brought the vehicle to another Service center looking to see if the part was available, I was told to make an appointment and they charged me $90 to tell me what I told them. Uggg.

ABS and traction control lights come on intermittently and a chime sound occurs. When this happens cruise control stops working. Getting a “Service Electronic Braking System” message and “Service Antilock Brake System” message. Had to wait three weeks to get an appointment for dealer to troubleshoot. Dealer said it has code C0020-01 logged. Dealer says the Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) has an internal failure that is shorting out the ABS pump control. Dealer stated that part will not be available until February or March of 2024 if not later for repairs. Dealer verbally said to either park the vehicle until part is available or drive it knowing that the ABS braking system may not work properly in case of emergency stop. Dealer said there is no recall for this problem but they are aware of many vehicles with it. I feel there needs to be an immediate recall issued for this problem as it is endangering the public.

My 2018 3500 Dully with 34,000 miles started having an issue with the ABS, Traction Control and Eletronic Brack control systems. While driving the truck on a trip, the Traction Control, and ABS lights started coming on intermittently and the check Eletronic Brack control came on at the same time and it too flashed intermittently. Also, while this is happening, the cruise control does not work. Took the truck to the dealer, parts are not available until February of 2024. Five months from now. They recommend two parts be replaced, Anti-lock brake system, part number 68347098AB and Control Anti-Lock Brake System Part 68143491AB. I'm being told it will cost around $2,000 for the repairs. The 5-year 100,000 drive train is within the warranty period; however, this is not covered by RAM. For such an expensive truck, I find it disturbing that in the event of such failure It was advised to take the truck into the dealer as soon as possible because the truck with an ABS issue is not drivable and the dealer says its ok to drive it even though all the systems lights are flashing intermittently.

ABS and HCU modules are not operating properly. Resulting in no abs and no cruise control.

Since purchasing this truck brand new in 2018 we have had nothing but problems with this vehicle. Dodge Ram failed us every time. They failed to work with the dealer and ignored every attempt to find solutions. It started with vehicle loosing power on very dangerous locations a specially freeway located in curves in the middle of nowhere. It took years to fix that problem. Multiple times we drove from the shop being told that it was fixed and it wasn't. We would drive right back in after 15 min. It took over 3 years to get dodge and dealer to replace the transmission and all electrical issues. The other problem that we have had since buying this truck is the AC. Its been always a problem we are continuously trying to fix it and its been very hard. This entire summer my children have been suffering. We are driving in extreme heat with zero ac and Dodge Ram can not produce part for the dealership to fix it. What is really unfair that original dealer tried again to charge us for something that it waste the problem. We would have paid for it and would have been back within an hour. The new dealer Peterson Dodge understood the problem and was honest with us that there is a lot more then a filter. It was me who requested to get a second opinion and get a way from Larry H Miller Dodge.

Anti lock brake service light came on repeatedly and vehicle was taken to South County Ram dealer in St. Louis and they scheduled a service appt in July 2022 and they indicated an antilock module was required and did not have part due to manufacturer and did not know when part would be available. The vehicle again was taken to same dealer on July 10, 2023, and same story. This was reported to Chrysler Complaint line that same day and no response from manufacturer. How can an important safety part not be available? How can they continue to produce vehicles and not have replacement safety parts?

ABS System flashes on and off that it needs to be serviced, also cruis control doesn’t work. Took it to dealer to get it diagnosed. Dealer says the HCU needs to be replaced and the ABS pump needs to be replaced and also that cause the brakes and rotors to wear out and they need to be replaced too.

Ram 3500 Larime Crew Cab Deisel with 47,800 miles. We were driving home from our seasonal campsite, (about a 2 hour trip on highway) and it began to rain (about 15 minutes into the trip) it continued to rain very hard at times the whole trip home. Around 30 minutes into our trip the ABS warning light, Check Engine light, & Traction Control light came on. I pulled to the shoulder of the road and waited for a lull in the rain. I then opened the hood and inspected to see if something was shorting out electrically. I couldn't see or smell anything, so we decided to continue on our way. We exited the highway and took non-highway route home. I did not notice any issues while braking or driving that concerned me enough to have it towed. I pulled the truck into the garage (under our house) and unloaded our belongings from the weekend. I went down to the garage about 2 hours later (the key fob was upstairs) when I walked behind the truck, the cargo light and interior lights came on. This didn't make sense to me because the key fob was not anywhere near the truck. It was still raining so I decided to disconnect the batteries (2 batteries on the Cummins) rather than put the truck outside in the rain. Didn't want to take the chance of burning my house down. This was the first time this has happened (7-16-2023) I research to see if anyone else had similar issues and found a considerable number of owners with this similar complaint. The vehicle has not been taken to the dealer as of this writing. Having to pull to the side of the highway during heavy rain, put my family and others at risk. Given the number of complaints that I was able to read, I would say these issues should warrant a recall.

The contact stated while driving 65 MPH with the Forward Collision Avoidance: Adaptive Cruise Control activated, the traction control and ABS warning lights illuminated intermittently. 2018 RAM Display screen delaminates and behaves erratically. Car phones 911 and the call cannot be stopped. Switches driver controls erratically. All electronic systems are erratic because the screen thinks it is being touched when it is not. This failure is present on this 2018 RAM 3500 and Ive seen the same failure on multiple Ram 1500/2500/3500 vehicles from 2018.

Abs/hcu faulty, brake warning light, message, and alarm will sound on and off while driving. I have tried to buy the parts and they are not available through dodge with no estimated availability. This has been going on for a year.

In July 2022 our 2018 RAM 3500 Diesel 4 by 4 truck started having an intermittent alert. Service electronic brake system, ABS, traction control. Cruise control is disabled during this alert. May 2023 the vehicle was taken to local dealer for a diagnostic. They revealed no codes were revealed answer was to replace the ITBM at a cost of 921.00. And the diagnostic charge was 233.00. I tried to contact the dealer for further questions with no cooperation. I started investigating and purchased a code reader at my own cost. The code that showed was C0020-01 ABS Pump Motor Control-Electrical Failure. Much different than the ITBM I was told. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles put out a Case Number: S2005000004 Release Date 04/28/2020 Symptom/Vehicle Issue: C0020-01-ABS PUMP MOTOR CONTROL- GENERAL ELECTRICAL FAILURE Discussion: Basically says to replace HCU first and then ECU if code still active. So, the dealer is aware of the issue and outright lied to me. There is also an active Class Action Lawsuit for this very issue In California Plantiff James Neu. The fact that my vehicle is not in a safe working condition with this faulty part. The fact that the Dealer is lying about which part is defective and would have installed a different part than what they said the problem is. It is very disturbing that an automotive company is treating the safety of their customers so carelessly. The Fact that this is a common and widespread issue and nothing is being done to rectify, appalling. Thousands of vehicles on the road, no parts available. Action needs to be taken. Lives will be lost, severe injury, it can happen to innocent people. Please do something

Service ABS, traction control, ESP, ABS lights come on. Vehicle constantly beeps. RAM dealer says it needs a new HCU/ABS module (on national backorder) and/or ABS pump. Second time this has happened. Vehicle now at 77k miles and it happened all over again. If this is happening regularly then something must be defective with the parts they are putting on the truck.

While driving at any speed the abs and traction control lights start flashing and a chime goes constantly. also when this happens it causes the cruise control to disengage without any warning. Also leaving you without abs brakes. I am on my 3rd abs module and 2nd hydraulic control unit and needing a 3rd hydraulic control unit for this vehicle with less than 62,000 miles the first one went out around 16,000 miles and the second at 37,000 miles. This is also my second truck from this manufacturer to do the exact same thing that happened at 30,000 miles and had another one in the family that did it at 7,000 miles. As i research online I find that this a common occurrence and nothing has been done to resolve the issue other than just replacing the parts with new and wait for it to happen again. I am in need of a new hydraulic control unit and am being told that they are on some kind of hold until the earliest date of August and just to drive the truck with non-working safety equipment.

September-October 2022 --The Anti-Braking System module has quit working. (ABS). Requested replacement part from Dealership in October 2022. Dealership advises Mopar cancelled parts request to them. I have no anti braking working on vehicle. Dealership advises me to contact Mopar directly for help. I advised them that wasn't my job it was theirs' .

I have two warning messages appearing on my dash. Service Electronic Braking System and Service ABS System. Took it to my dealership Michiana Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram FIAT in Mishawaka Indiana. I was informed that it needed an HCU (hydraulic control unit) and that the part was unavailable because of engineering review until at least August 2023. The work order was closed and i was sent on my way and told to check back at a later date for availability. After a little reading i found that this issue is under investigation and i wanted add my truck to your list of reports.

Service Anti-lock brake and Service electronic braking errors come up on screen at random, sometimes the lights will stay one and cruise control is disabled. While braking they seem to shudder. Not safe for a Heavy duty truck that is able to tow 15k lbs.

My truck is a 2018 Ram 3500 with only 12,500 miles on it, and it is not driven in the winter. Recently it has been has intermittent activation of the ABS and traction lights. It has been on consistent for over a month now. I code scan showed C0020-01 ABS module general electrical failure. I search online and talking with the dealership revealed this is a fairly common issue on 2017 and 2018 trucks and the fix with either the HCU, ABS module or both. I see NHTSA has opened and investigation into the matter so I am just reporting mine as additional truck with issues. It has not been repaired yet. Thanks.

While reviewing NHTSA's website I noticed PE22-012 concerning Loss of Brake Performance on 2017-2018 Ram 2500 and 3500 trucks. My 2018 Ram 3500 recently started giving me an ABS, traction control and/or "Service Electronic Braking System" warnings. I first noticed the ABS light shortly after I most recently rotating the tires. The tires were rotated for the 3rd time on 14 Dec 2022 with 44,158 miles on the truck. I rotate all 5 tires (spare included in the rotation). I didn't think much of it at first as I was driving in PA on snow covered dirt roads the first time the ABS light came on. After that it became more frequent with the traction control light typically also illuminating. And now more recently a message on the dash information center appears after the lights come on. The lights don't always go out after a key cycle but will often turn off in the middle of a trip. I have not taken the truck to be inspected. Nor have I noticed a degradation of braking ability. I also have never had to brake hard enough to activate the ABS on this truck, nor have I tried it just to see.

"Service Electronic Braking System" intermittently flashes in the dashboard, along with the orange ABS and traction control lights. Seems to happen more on bumpy roads, goes away on smoother roads, then randomly comes back. 12/19/2022: While driving, brakes were not working properly. Depressed fully to floor or pumped to try to stop. Check engine lights coming on and off. PERFORM SERVICE, SERVICE DPF SYSTEM, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. Perform service light prior to failure and taken to dodge dealership. Vehicle was inspected by 2 Dodge Dealerships. Extended warranty company National AutoCare failed to show to inspect vehicle both times at Dodge Dealership. Problem was diagnosed by dodge but never fixed…. Safety is at risk when driving vehicle and is available upon request any help is appreciated!

Right before 36000 miles the ABs and Traction control lights come on and off intermittently. I took the truck to my local dealer and was told 2 components needed to be replaced. They informed me it was not covered under warranty and they did not have the parts nor knew when they might get them in. This has been 4 or more months now and the lights stay on more often than they are off. I can’t use cruise control and it will not pass inspection with the lights on.

A warning to have my electrical braking system checked continues to alert me while driving along with a abs warning. I notice no change in the system braking. When taken to a RAM dealer for repair the result is to wait months for an electric brake controller. Warning message disables the cruise control.

I had a warning message to service my DEF system. I had the truck checked at a RAM dealer who reported i need a new exhaust system. They had me wait a few days while they ordered parts. The message never reappeared and the truck is running fine. I dont understand why the dealer wanted me to replace my exhaust system when it apparently doesn't need one. The 2018 truck has only 18K miles on it.

Every time I plug in a trailer to the 7 point electrical plug in, it pops the fuse for trailer brakes. It has happened with 5 different trailers. Has also happened with other 2017/2018 Ram 2500/3500. Ram claims it’s the trailer.

"Service electronic braking system" and "service antilock brake system" are popping up on gauge cluster at highway speeds. This is a random event that started at about 35,000. The system shuts on and off constantly with chimes and alarms to “Service electronic braking system" and "service antilock brake system". I contacted the dealership by phone, and they said they know about this issue but there is no Recall yet and it’s not covered under powertrain warranty; they advised it needs to have the ABS pump and control module replaced. I have looked on the internet and see several thousand complaints for the exact same issue. To me this seems like a life/safety issue that is being ignored Stellantis / Ram.

HCU unit failing. Keeps throwing service abs, and service electronic brake controller. On off on off on off non stop constantly the whole time truck is almost undeliverable Part is unavailable due to supposedly back ordered. Been told part is known issue and that a recall should be done but it’s not. Hydraulic control unit. So driving a one ton truck with failing abs, traction control with no delivery date of a part that is junk.

HCU Issue: The ABS light coming on is the lightwill come on for two second and go off at times, through the diagnostics of the code C0020-01. It is a general electrical failureto the hydraulic control unit. The unit is replaced separate from the ABS moduel th HCU needs to be replacedfirst. In some cases, the ABS module that is bolted to the HCU needs to be replaced and programmed as well. The HCU needs replacement first. The total estimate is $1010.00 with labor. 2018 Ram 3500 - ABS system/Electronic braking system failure at 5583 miles. ABS/traction control and service electronic braking system display on dash, also audible chime with cruise control inactive. Took to dealership for diagnonis and code C0020-01 is active. Reccomended replacement of HCU which is common for these vehicles. Truck is out of warranty and estimate is $1080 for repair, which does not include the $301 I spent on diagnostics. There needs to be a recall on these Chrysler HCUs as they are a known issue and related to the braking system. Why do I see recalls on items such as malfunctioning tailgate latches but not braking systems?

ABS and Traction Control lights and DIC alarms came on while driving. They stayed on for a few minutes then went off. Also the service trailer brake system message came on. This has happened several times now turning off cruise control too. I reseated all fuses and went for two weeks before it started happening again. Happens sometimes as we go over expansion joints or hit potholes while driving at highway speeds. I notice several other reports of this here at NHTSA site and various RAM forums across various RAM years.

This is a random event that started at about 20,000 miles then went away for about 6,000 miles then came back at 29,000 miles whil on a 1,500 trip and is now not going away. The system shuts on and off constantly with chimes and alarms to "service ABS/EBS. I have the truck at the dealership and they advsied it needs to have the ABS pump and control module replaced. I have looked on the internet and see several hundred complaints for the same issue. The delaer says this is not a recall and is not covered by warrenty. To me this seems like a safety issue that is being ignroed by Chrysler corp / Ram. They are looking at the numbers and not enough people have been in accidents to justuify the cost of a recall. The ABS Anti lock lights came on and says check Electrical Brake System. Dealer said The ABS anti lock brake pump assembly was bad and it was on me to replace it. This is a big safety Issue to me. I got a 2018 3500 ram and paying big money for a truck and my safety, there should be a recall before some people get kill.

The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V798000 (Electrical System) however, neither the VIN nor the vehicle year was included. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 67,000.

ABS and Traction control pump system electrical failure. Went to a Dodge Dealer and had the system read due to light coming on and off. Originally started around 38,000 miles on the truck. A code came up C0020-01. ABS pump motor control electrical failure. Researched on the net. Seems to be a big issue from 2013 on up on trucks. Chaffing wires? Pump failure? Dealer said the ABS Pump could Possibly be bad. Wondering if there is a safety Recall or will have one. I have my truck scheduled for repair next week. Estimated cost of $700.00 according to service department.

The warning chirp occurred and the ABS and ESC lights came on the first two times. The incident happened so quickly I could not clearly determine which warning lights illuminated. On April 18 with just over 39,000 miles on the vehicle the chirping alarm and the ABS and ESC light illuminated. In addition two warnings appeared in the dash: "Service Antilock Brake System" and "Service Electronic Braking System." The warnings happened multiple times per minute in some cases. Other times the vehicle would go for many miles without the warning. Every time the warning chirp was heard the cruise control would disengage. I did not notice any problems with the brakes of the truck. In researching the issue I learned that many people are having this problem. I contacted Ram and they directed me to a dealer who diagnosed the C0020-01 fault code and that the hydraulic control unit (HCU) for the ABS system was defective. According the the TSB Ram has put out about the issue the ABS module could also be bad, but the first part of the repair it to replace the HCU and if the problem persists to then replace the ABS module. Ram apparently has an inconsistent level of support for owners experiencing this malfunction with some getting the repair done out of warranty, while others have to pay for the repair. Because it is brake related it seems this should be an item replaced as a safety issue, no matter what the mileage on the vehicle.

Uconnect screen delamination causes phantom button pushing while driving down the road. This causes random buttons to be selected and for things to start happening while driving. Driving distracted is dangerous driving. It will randomly call people, including using the SOS functionality. Making non-emergency calls to the emergency line is unacceptable. Once while driving, it turned the radio on and my volume was cranked up. I almost crashed into the car next to me because it scared me half to death. This is a known issue from what I've been reading on RAM forums and almost always shows up outside of warranty. The manufacturer should be held accountable for this to prevent future wrecks, distracted driving, and unnecessary SOS phone calls.

8.4" Uconnect display is now bad. It changes every mode of truck as a "ghost touch" and is a severe distraction while driving-climate, music volume, stations, cameras, sensors. It is a widely known problem involving the screen digitizer and nearly every FCA vehicle having the 8.4" screen fails-Ram, Dodge, Jeep, Chrysler.

UConnect 8.4 Screen Delamination - The integrated radio/communication/vehicle functions module screen is delaminating on a vast number of vehicles. The repair according to RAM dealerships is a complete replacement of the screen and the controller at a cost of nearly $2000 per vehicle. While initially most believe this to be a radio issue the systems are integrated to multiple functions of the vehicle including: front and rear cameras, front and rear parking sensors, ride height controls, HVAC controls, seating controls, and a number of other systems. It also includes access to a number of phone systems including emergency calling. Due to the integrated nature of this equipment a major recall should be conducted on affected systems and also a forced reimbursement to owners of vehicles that have had to pay out of pocket for repairs or diagnostics. In addition, the delamination seems to be causing a leaking substance to drip down into other controls such as the Exhaust Brake, Trailer Brake Controls, and other physical buttons. It is my belief this is becoming a safety issue as the delamination is causing phantom key presses on various systems including setting volume of audio at 100% randomly.

The 8.4 u Connect Radio is delaminating and randomly calling people and switch to things on the screen randomly it’s a safety issue because it’s a distraction for the driver and could cause other electrical damage I haven’t taken it to a dealer because I already know the answer it’s up to me to replace it until the company takes ownership of there problems

The uconnect 8.4 navigation screen is delaminating. This could become a safety issue if the screen continues to melt and drip glue on the traction control, trailer brake control, parking sensors, as well as can be distracting to the driver if the screen changes on its own. It can also cause the rear view camera to turn on and cause a motion picture to be displaying while the vehicle is in constant motion. The screen has been inspected by a third party and is in need of replacement which costs over $1000. The cause is a faulty part that is not made properly and causes it to prematurely separate from the lcd screen.

The contact owns a 2018 RAM 3500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle experienced random electrical failures related to the MY TOUCH home screen. The contact stated that the vehicle would independently call random phone numbers including the SOS help button, as well as the local police station’s number stored in the contact's phone. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed him that because his home screen had started to delaminate, this failure was a known result on several model vehicles. The contact also called the dealer and they acknowledged that the failure was a known issue and was given an estimate for the repair. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The abs system has failed on my truck and many more possibly by a dealer defect and no recall as of now. When the abs warning light comes on it also puts up a warning light for the electronic braking system and you aren’t allowed after that to set the cruise. Anytime you hit a bump or turn the wheels or just randomly at any given time the lights come up on the dash and it chimes which will drive anyone nuts. With the electronic braking system not functioning properly could potentially lock the brakes up on the truck in my opinion knowing how it functions. Which in my opinion is a safety hazard. Also I might add that taking my vehicle to my local dealership is a complete waste of time as the diesel mechanic up there is terrible at his job. He has misdiagnosed two of my trucks and I believe he had something to do with a transmission going out in one. He “fixed” it then 3000 miles later the transmission completely destroyed itself which made me have to trade the truck in. Also the traction control system does not function when the abs light is on. In doing research I have found many many people with this same problem.

8.4 inch Uconnect infotainment screen is delaminating. The digitizer screen is separating from the LCD screen from an apparent manufacturer defect. This screen controls backup camera, secondary heating and cooling defrost function. This is a safety issue as the screen becomes non responsive or ghost touch inputs start to randomly change settings in the vehicle.

THIS IS A KNOWN CAUSE BUT DEALER WILL NOT REPAIR BASED ON MILEAGE OF TRUCK WHICH IS 45K. THE COST IS OUTRAGEOUS TO HAVE REPAIRED AT DEALER.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO REAGLE DODGE (ROUTE 512 BANGOR, PA 18013, (610)-863-6900) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE EVAPORATOR COIL FAILED PREMATURELY AND CAUSED A CHALK LIKE DUST TO BLOW INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER FURTHER STATED THAT THE DASHBOARD AND CENTER CONSULE NEEDED TO BE REMOVED IN ORDER TO REMOVE THE EVAPORATOR COIL THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS EXERIENCED IN THE 2014 AND 2015 MODELS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 6,000.

THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE OPERATED AS INTENDED. THE CONTACT REQUESTED THAT THE MECHANIC PERFORM A VOLTAGE TEST ON THE INTEGRATED TRAILER BRAKE CONTROLLER. THE VOLTAGE READ 8.3 VOLTS INSTEAD OF 12.6 VOLTS, WHICH WAS NEEDED TO ACTIVATE THE INTEGRATED TRAILER BRAKE CONTROLLER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AN AFTERMARKET INTEGRATED TRAILER BRAKE CONTROL WAS INSTALLED AND THE BRAKING SYSTEM PERFORMED AS INTENDED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5,500.

AFTER 4 ATTEMPTS DODGE GAVE UP AND SAID THE ITBS WORKS AS DESIGNED. THE 5TH WHEEL WAS CERTIFIED THAT THE BRAKES WORK WITH OTHER TOW VEHICLES. NOT WITH OUR RAM 3500 WHICH IS RATED TO TOW 22000 POUNDS WHICH IS A SAFETY HAZARD. WE ARE UNABLE TO STOP THE TRAILER IN AN EMERGENCY OR UNER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS USING THE ITBS.
