2018 RAM 3500 Service Brakes Problems

My vehicle is included in safety recall 24V-896 for a defective HCU (Hydraulic Control Unit). I have contacted the dealership multiple times, but the replacement part is never available. This recall affects critical safety systems including ABS and Electronic Stability Control. Despite being a safety recall, there is no estimated timeline for repair due to part unavailability. I am concerned about driving a vehicle with an unresolved safety defect. The manufacturer has been unable to provide the recall repair for an extended period.

There is an open recall (C4B) for my Ram truck. The ABS light and "Service Brake System" light and message are currently displayed on the truck's dash. I contacted FCA about a year ago and told them I have an active issue. They said they placed me on a priority wait list but the remedy is not available yet. It is unacceptable for them to not have a remedy ready for an 8 year old truck when the issue was known about some time ago. I would appreciate if NHTSA or other government agencies would put pressure on FCA to repair this issue as owner's and other motorists lives are on the line if faulty equipment is forced to drive on public roadways. Recall C4B with known issue and known remedy but “no parts available.” Contacted RAM and with no parts they have no solution. You can rent an auto out of pocket and possibly be reimbursed. No option for buyback or solution. Recall came out 12/5/2024.

Since January 2023, my truck stability control system has been disabled related to CB4 NHTSA 24V-896 recall. TWO years! I can't sell the truck like this & I have no idea when it will result in an accident. Stellantis needs to be held accountable. Every contact with them results in a response of waiting for parts. I've had no choice but to drive another 18000 dangrous miles with this vehicle. This is unacceptable.

Traction control, stability control, and ABS all not working. Started at 8,700 miles, truck now has 9,800 miles on it. Received a recall end of 2024, part is still not available. This is taking far to long for a repair, we know someone who has an extended warranty who had their truck repaired. Something is fishy here. This truck is the same as new and was bought to tow a fifth wheel and haul tractor and track hoe. Not safe to do so. Ram should have issued a do not drive on this truck and the repair should have been done a long time ago. Either fix it or replace it, this time frame is unacceptable.

This recall has been open and unresolved for 12 months. Contacted both the dealership and the manufacturer. Both have stated parts are not available and unknown timeframe when the vehicle can be repaired. Currently, the vehicle is drivable, but indicator lights are not illuminated on the dashboard. Almost got into a wreck because my ABS failed. I was going down the interstate with my cruise control on and my abs and traction light came on. My cruise control.immediately stopped working and I was almost rear ended. I called the Ram dealership and they said they have no time frame of when they will have parts in to fix it under the recall. Does someone have to die before Ram will start fixing these abs units. The recall has been out since Nov 2024. They need to be held accountable or buy back all 2017 and 2018 rams affected by this.

No solution for the antilock breaking system,causing drivability issues and loss of traction control,abs and control on numerous occasions.

Recall C4B/NHTSA 24V-896 was issued November 2024. To this date, there is no remedy. I have spoken with both FCA and my local dealership. Both have communicated that FCA does not have a resolution and can not provide a date for parts availability for repair. As the recall states. " The loss of the ABS/ESC/Traction control may cause a vehicle related crash without prior warning". I have significant concerns with the potential mechanical failure which could lead to a vehicular accident. 12 months without resolution is not acceptable.

I had just merged onto the highway and was in the left lane that was ending ahead. As soon as I switched lanes traffic came to a stop. I slammed on the brakes and the truck came to a complete stop before impact. Then with my foot still on the brake pedal the truck lurched forward making impact with the vehicle in front of me. I believe that the defective brake HCU failure caused the ABS system to fail ultimately resulting in the accident. The only damage was to the front bumper. No airbags deployed and the accident was not reported. I would like Ram to replace my bumper since I have been driving with this problem for over a year and still no fix to the problem. It is a clear safety issue and had resulted in not being able to safely drive the truck.

Traction control and ABS work intermittently. Ram sent out this notification for recall concerning stated problems but state there is no fix at this time. They continue to state there is no fix. This is a safety issue and you are not forcing them to repair. They are dragging their feet hoping it goes away. DO SOMETHING!!!!

After stopping at the local dealer monthly concerning this safety recall I am told every time that the part is not available. I am left driving this truck in an unsafe state and am concerned for public safety as well as my own. No assistance is ever offered and there is no eta on when to expect the needed parts. This is a known issue that a safety recall has been issued for but RAM is taking no action to correct.

The Hydraulic brake control has been a recall with no replacement part available for over 2 years and this causes many safety functions to not work properly including trailer braking. They have made parts for a 2500 model but neglected to fix the 3500, 4500 and 5500 models. They will fix it with another faulty sensor and still expect owner to pay a 1700 repair bill even though it’s a recall. It’s ridiculous on the time this is taking.

I have had actual issues with this vehicle due to the recall CB4 with the HCU unit. My vehicle not only has the recall but is actually effected. This recall is over a year old and my braking (antilock braking, traction control, etc) changed how the vehicle was driving last October on my way back from a funeral so it’s nearly a year since I’ve been able to drive my truck. I can’t sell it because all the bells & whistles chime alerting to an electric braking issue. Shouldn’t RAM be forced to buy back vehicles they can’t fix after a year? At this level of a recall where safety limits the ability to drive it but I still have to pay insurance on it and can’t get another vehicle because I can’t sell this one? I called NHTSA late winter and FCA (x2) already and FCA second call didn’t keep a record of my 1st call which is dishonest. They said I’d be put on the list for early repairs but then didn’t log my first call. I’m not sure if they logged my 2nd call. I think they should have to start buying vehicles back.

24V-896. This recall is a safety issue known for years. There is still no action from the manufacturer! I was extremely lucky to avoid a serious collision. The only solution the manufacturer offers is to authorize a dealer to replace the parts with another secondary market provider part, but they won’t cover the cost or warrant the replacement. How many YEARS do I have to drive an unsafe vehicle?!!!

Hydraulic Control Uni Safety: The loss of abs/esc/traction control may cause a vehicle crash without prior warning. This voluntary recall still has not been remedied and no assistance has been provided.

The recall for this vehicle was announced on November 24 2024. To date, Chrysler has not been able to come up with a solution to this serious brake problem. I have had to rely on alternative transportation since last November, This is ridiculous to wait 9+ months to get my vehicle repaired.

My HCU has failed I had a car pull into my lane on the freeway and my truck and fifth wheel slid for a long period of time. After the close call I contacted the dealership and they said they have no parts to fix the recall. I also contacted the FCA customer care 1 800 853 1403. After many calls and lost calls the Indian man told me it was totally safe to drive my truck he has no clue what a fifth wheel trailer is. I now have a 12400 mile truck i only use to pull my trailer sitting in limbo waiting to be repaired. Seems like when the truck goes through all the chimes and flashing lights I lose my cruise control and trailer brake function how is this safe?

Stellantis is unable to provide a timey remedy for NHTSA Recall Number24V-896. The hydraulic control unit ("HCU") is susceptible to failure or malfunction which may result in a reduction or change of Anti-Lock Brake System ("ABS")/Electronic Stability Control ("ESC") /Traction Control performance. A failing HCU will initially result in the intermittent loss of ABS/Traction control progressing to permanent loss. The loss of ABS/ESC/Traction control may cause a vehicle crash without prior warning. Driving the vehicle is a safety risk to me and the public. The vehicle is garaged at an authorized dealership since 2/13/25 and has resulted in a loss of income totaling $40,000 as the truck was used for transporting heavy loads. Additionally, I have paid $9,000 towards the monthly truck note and insurance for a vehicle that I cannot drive. Stellantis has not provided an adequate solution, and they are ill-equipped to be a manufacturer of vehicles in the United States. Stellantis is actively misrepresenting safety information to the public without any regard for the public’s safety. Out of an abundance of caution, I filed Better Business Bureau complaint case #[XXX] on [XXX] with the Detroit and Eastern Michigan office after Stellantis advised me that the 2018 Ram 3500 was safe to drive even though the recall was not repaired. Stellantis’ response can be viewed by the public at the Better Business Bureau of Detroit and Eastern Michigan’s website. It reads as follows: “We issued this recall out of our commitment to your safety and recommend that you complete the repair as soon as the remedy becomes available. However, please rest assured that you can continue driving your vehicle safely in the meantime." They made 5.5 billion in profit in 2024 and they won't deal fairly regarding a rental vehicle. On 7/17 they told me they would reimburse up to $60 then 8 days later they said up to $50. When I submitted my rental receipts they said their system is down. I have an issue with my ABS and Traction Control systems malfunctioning. This manifests as as warning lights on my dashboard and stored message in my truck display for "Service Antilock Braking System and Service Electrical Braking System'. There are also diagnositc trouble codes associated with this fault. I know that some trucks of my model year are subject to a previous recall linked here: [XXX] However, I have been told by the dealer that my truck is not covered under this recall. Safety recall over 5 months ago on ram 3500 truck used solely for pulling 10k camper. NG hydraulic control valve with possible failure of ABS without warning. Contacted dealer in early jan. 2025. They are aware and said they would call when part came in. Called back today after no communication in 6 months. Told no part in stock and no part to order. Asked if it was safe to drive and was told it wasnt a dealer responsibility and it was my desision. Called chrysler recall number and told the same thing and they would not give mw anything in writing saying the truck was safe to drive. Looked online and that part number hydraulic valve is readily available on mopar.com parts site. The issue from what i understand is they refuse to divert those valves of oem assembly line needs for the recall. To say this is frustrating and concerning would be an understatement.

This recall notice, was first identified in September or October, with the Official Communication issued in November of 2024. How long am I, or anyone expected to endure the nuances of this recall. We are well beyond 6 months now with no remedy, and it does not appear as if RAM\Stellantis is concerned with a fix. They've sent a disclaimer notice, but what is the resolve to a vehicle I purchased and continue to make a monthly payment towards - but you are basically telling me don't drive. Alternatively, dealership service advisors call me every six weeks to come in for a diagnostic ( not free of course ) only to say well it is related to the HCU so there isn't anything we can do right now. When\If I drive my vehicle I have to listen to a buckle your seatbelt type of alarm the entire drive. Its not only mind numbing its traumatic. Will Stellantis or Ram be forced to compensate me money I've paid monthly for a vehicle I technically can't use or shouldn't use? My complaint is to determine when this problem will be fixed and what is the NHTSA is doing to ensure my rights are protected as a consumer and what they are doing to push this manufacturer to fix this safety related issue.

There is a recall for the brake HCU, but parts are not available. RAM won't fix. ABS warning light and traction control lights are on, and flash along with warning buzzer chime. Unacceptable. This has been going on for 4 months.

ABS PUMP Failed on 09/03/22. ABS light constantly coming on and off and dinging had it repaired on 10/21/22 had to wait for part, was charged 930.00 ABS FAILED 2ND TIME ABS Light constantly going on and off and dinging ON 1/31/25, Received recall C4B/NHTSA 24-896 on 01/13/25 in mail. Ferman Dodge of new port Richey refused to cover it, and their recall center refused to cover it or reimburse me. I had it replaced a second time on 4/11/25 had to wait for the part to come in. They are not honoring the recall which has been under investigation by NHTSA since 2021. So, I have been charged 2 time, another 957.00 and the second time the truck had not even been driven 30000 miles since last repair. So, every 30 to 40 thousand miles the abs pump fails possibly causing the brakes to malfunction. They are also saying that it was repaired on 12/05/25, Truck was not in for service on that date, see attachments,

The hydraulic control unit has been on recall since December 2024, I been to the dealer several times a they told me they do not have a remedy for the problem and they do not know if or when they will have a solution for the problem. Now I have a Check engine,ABS, and the eletronic stability control light on. The deler told the lights are on due to the HCU is bad. But they did give me a solution for the repairs

Related to the known HCU failure on these vehicles. My first submitted complaint was on Oct 22, 2022 and this issue is still not resolved. I received a letter in mail on January 21st of this year stating that a recall was finally underway. Now it's late March and everyone's standard response is "No Remedy Yet". The remedy is actually installing HCU part number 68143491AB which replaces the corrupt factory installed part 6814391AA. These parts are readily available online so why can't factory service centers begin replacing these failed HCU's. This complaint is filed due to my belief that this dangerous safety issue is not being resolved in a reasonable, timely manner. Not even close.

On March 3rd, This dealership replaced the stop sale safety recall on our Commercial vehicle (C4B) with a part that was not created for our truck. This resulted in hydraulic brake fluid spewing out of the HCU all over significant areas under the hood, including the ABS Module and wiring. Upon realizing the HCU was spewing hydraulic brake fluid, we brought the truck back on March 7th, and again, the dealership replaced the HCU with the incorrect part (but assuring us it was the actual part for this specific recall) and Sam (service advisor) told us they would also be replacing the ABS Module and the wiring associated, as the ABS module had also been recently replaced and was still covered under warranty. When we received the car back, Sam (service advisor) explained that they would like the truck back at a later date to replace the wiring - that they have already replaced the ABS module so we will still see the ABS light, but only because the wiring needs to be redone.  We picked up our truck on Friday March 8th, and when my fiancé began his route on [XXX] with his trailer attached, he made it about 20 miles before his truck completely shut down mid-drive while on a busy road- forcing him to have to coast over a 4 lane roadway and into a ditch avoiding collision of oncoming traffic with his trailer and equipment attached. We discovered that the mechanics had fraudulently replaced our HCU with another trucks HCU and had to force the recall through Mopar's reimbursement process, as it was rejected multiple times because the remedy is not currently available therefore unable to be completed. I filled a complaint on the HCU (brakes) on my 2018 Ram 3500 with NHTSA. FCA took forever to finally recall. By then i had already found a new RAM factorty OEM HCU from a RAM DEALER THAT ALSO SELLS ON EBAY, and installed myself. After getting the recall notice in the mail i contacted RAM as the part was already replaced to get reimbursed for same. I sent them the failure code from original incident, picture of the active light on my truck, ebay receipt from ebay with visa payment, and tracking showing it shipped to me. RAM Customer service replied the claim was denied because i showed no install. My email to them clearly stated i installed myself and have been in mechanical maintenance my entire carrer and was one of the first ASE Certified Mechanics in the 1980's. I believe they are not honoring the recall on my vehicle forced on them by NHTSA (thank you from all the RAM owners that they didnt care about) and i should be reimbursed for my cost and labor to install the known recalled failed part. On or about [XXX] my Ram 3500 showed a check engine light indicating to service the HCU/ABS system. After researching this I discovered there was a problem with the HCU/ABS in the Ram 3500. At the time there was no recall for the part. I found the part and replaced the part. On or about 1/25 I received a recall notice from the manufacturer. I proceeded to their website and submitted the required documents for reimbursement. I was promptly denied reimbursement: "Dear Mr. [XXX] , Good day! We understand that this was not the decision that you were hoping for, and we apologize for that, but that is the decision of the company based on the information provided. There is no installation cited and it is not eligible for reimbursement. We look forward to the chance to assist you in the future, and we thank you for being a Ram customer. Regards, Therie Ram Customer Care " I called and talked to several representatives, however, they still will not reimburse for the part. I explained to the representative that I did the work myself and indicated this on the reimbursement form (did the work myself was a selection). I explained this repair was a safety issue, dealers were charging $1500-$2000 to do the repair, and the time of this issue the replacement part was on a nationwide shortage. The dealer could give me no timeframe on when they could secure the part. Due to these reasons I kept looking until I finally found the part and did the repair myself. I provided proof of purchase from the dealer, credit card statement showing payment and offered to take a picture of the old part and installed part side by side as I still have the old part. They still denied reimbursement. Is there anything you can do? It doesn't seem fair that the manufacturer of a defective part gets to make the rules for reimbursement and can deny any disputes the consumer has with their decisions. I had the ABS recall repaired 3 years ago when Ram was refusing to acknowledge this as a defective product. I paid for this repair. Under the recall I'm elgiible for reimbursement but the company is refusing to reimburse me for the repair after I sent them an invoice showing proof of work and my payment. This can't stand. Please force them to issue a refund for the $100 I am owed.

Constant service electronic braking system and service ABS warning lights, loss of all traction control. It started as a intermittent loss of of these systems and now it is a total loss. There is nothing I can do to make it go away or function correctly. I took it to the dealer to talk about the recall and asked if I could go ahead and pay to have the replacement parts installed and they told me everything was unavailable. This problem has been going on for over two months. It is unsafe, now I don't have any ABS or traction control in the middle of the winter, this is the worst possible time this could happen. How can there not be a alternative solution? Someone is going to crash and get killed.

HI, My 2018 RAM 3500, had had a Anti-lock brake control module light on and off about a hundred times a day for the past year, I just spoke to the Ram Service manager at Leith Ram in Wendel NC and she told me that Ram has no fix for this part, and it has been on backorder for over 2.5 years, you can have total brake failure with this part being defective, how has the NTSB not stepped in and put some pressure on them to get this fixed, there are hundreds of thousands of trucks out there with this problem. Why is it being allowed to continue for years and years without a solution??

2018 Ram diesel 3500. 36,000 miles ABS and Traction Control lights illuminated on dash. Cru8ise control does not work. Dealer told me the HCU (hydraulic control unit) is defective, and thee are no parts available to repair it. I am leaving Indiana for Florida on 18 Jan 2025. That means a 1,000 mile trip one direction pulling a boat - without cruise control or antilock brakes. What can be done?

Continually gets abs stability error. Unit has been replaced once less than year ago. Comes on if vehicle sits or hits a bump. Lose of abs cruise and continual dinging.

The service electronic braking system and service abs system continues to ding and pop up on screen. Cruise control will not work either.

ABS & Traction Light and ding ding, then go away for a while then it all comes back. Truck is out of warranty, so any cost is mine. They want you to pay for diagnostic even there is a code. Quoted cost was around $800 to $1000. The first time this happened the code said to replace the 4wd shift motor. Done that problem went away for awhile then came back. I am retired and these cost don't fit in real good. We purchased the truck new. I have read that this problem is not new, just ongoing. When this is happening the 4wd and cruse doesn't work or shuts off. It appears that RAM isn't going to do anything until people start getting killed. Then are forced to fix it.

ABS C0020 pump motor control...only have 54000 miles on this truck..

ABS-Hydraulic Control Unit failure, pump motor control electrical failure. Confirmed/ Diagnosed by dealer. Messages on dash info screen: "service electronic braking system", "ABS failure", warning lights : Traction Control and ABS failure. Safety risk when warning message appears: ABS, Traction Control and Cruise Control are non- functional.

I had to have my ABS module replaced because ABS fault on my dash lit up. A few months later the ABS fault light is back on. The parts they put on is junk. I cant keep paying the ridiculous price of this repair when it doesn't fix the issue. Reading thru the forums it has been a issue for many many years. I cant use my cruse control when this alarm goes off and I would like for my ABS to work the way it was intended for.

My 2018 Ram 35000 with only 33,000 miles has recently been providing numerous ABS and Electronic Braking System warning lights. They are intermittently and can sound several times continually or they can go for several miles with no alarms. It appears that this is a well known issue with Ram trucks that I believe the manufacture should repair as it is a safety concern.

I was driving my truck when the Service Electronic Braking System warning came on. Then the service the Anti-lock Brake System warning came on. Both warnings were flashing on and off. I took the truck into my mechanic which is an independent service center, American Muffler, in Burlington WI, on 10/23/24. I was told that the truck needed an ABS module and the Hydraulic Control Unit, but the mechanic was having problems getting the ABS module from the dealer, Miller Motors, in Burlington. I was told that Miller Motors needed authorization to sell the part, and it was pending. American Motors continued to call Miller Motors for updates and was told it was still pending. I finally picked up my truck on 11/04/24, without it being fixed. I drove the truck to my hunting land (about 120 miles), on [XXX]. The warnings continued to flash on and off periodically, on the trip. I stopped at Petersen Dodge, in Waupaca WI, to see if I could buy the ABS module there. Petersen Dodge didn't have one in stock but located one at a dealer in Janesville WI. I put money down at Petersen Dodge for the part and the part was going to be shipped to Petersen Dodge, where I was to pick it up. I was called the next morning and told by Petersen Dodge that the Janesville dealer cancelled the order. On 11/09/24, I tried to find the ABS module at Mopar.com National estore. They routed me to the Janesville dealer where it showed one in stock. I purchased that one online. On 11/11/24, I received an email from Mopar.com asking me for my VIN. I responded with the VIN. On 11/12/24, I received an email and phone call from Mopar.com stating that they were cancelling the order. On 11/15/24, I drove back home. The ABS indicator light and the Traction Control light were on the whole trip. I'm not sure if the truck is safe to drive this way, but I can't find anyone to sell the ABS module. ABS warning light came on, and stay on , parking sensors shut off , electronic braking system failed, brakes locked up, vehicle is unsafe and undrive able as brakes and abs system aren’t functioning safely.

ABS warning light & Traction control warning lights coming on and off intermittently. Found problem to be a bad HCU assembly. There seems to be a reliability problem with this brake HCU assembly. Other Ram trucks have a recall for this same problem & this is the second time this HCU module has failed on my truck. The first failure was in March of 2022 when the truck had 46002 miles. The unit was replaced at that time and Chrysler paid for the replacement. This latest failure was the same HCU module and it failed in October of 2024 when the truck had 76563 miles.

The service antilock brake system is constantly going off and the dealer says there is nothing they can do and no parts are available. We took it in and they ran a diagnostic and said they didnt know why and will not help us.

I am getting a warning on my dash to "service electronic braking system". I took it to the dealer and they told me the ABS Module and HCU internal failure. My truck only has 31,245 miles on it and I do not believe this important safety system should be failing so soon.

Warning of Anti skid system needs service

My 2018 Ram 3500 DRW truck for no reason started throwing dash warning lights intermittently after 60,000 miles. The warning lights activated on the dash were for ABS and Traction Control, with an annoying ding when they appeared. The center dash light stated "Service Antilock Braking System. Additionally, when this occurred the cruise control did not work. The warning lights were intermittent and just occurred at any time and disappeared as quickly as they showed up. This would happen for miles and for no apparent reason just stopped for a period of time. I took the truck to the dealer who informed me that its a known issue with the ABS HCU and the truck would be safe to drive but I would not have ABS and cruise control would not work. They also said parts were not available and could be a six month wait. They also told me that there were no recalls on the problem. I received a quote for repair which was in excess of $1,500.

ABS and Electric Brake failure. Second time this has been fixed. Once at roughly 30,000 miles and now again at 48,000 miles. Paperwork from dealer on both failures is “Internal Pump Failure EL001, Replace HCU. Replace old part SKU with new version…68143491AB” I entered a similar claim with you on this the first time it failed. It seems Chrysler Dodge Ram knows there is an issue based on them using an updated part this time vs last time. Also lots of internet chat forums talking about this issue. Since this is ABS / electric brakes I would think it would be a relatively serious safety concern on their part and with NHTSA. Why is there no recall on this yet? Aside from the obvious of preventing potential fatalities the cost of these pump failures is over $1,000 each time it happens. Thanks in advance for your help

Service Electronic Braking Service and Service ABS/TRACTION CONTROL. This is intermittent. When it happens Cruise control, 4 wheel drive and abs doesn't work. Happens when I'm towing my camper or not. Trailer brakes won't work when this happens. Hundreds, maybe thousands of complaints about this on Ram forums. This problem occurs no matter what the speed is. It even happens while sitting still.

Hello, I have an issue with the ABS Braking system on my 2018 RAM 3500 with only 50K miles on it. The lights are constantly coming on and off telling me that my ABS system needs servicing. this has been going on for two weeks. I was able to troubleshoot the problem and it says that my ABS pump and Module needs replacing. I was going to replace myself and when I ordered the parts from MOPAR they told me it was a 2 month lead time which I thought was unacceptable being such critical components to a vehicle. This week I almost rear ended another vehicle because the brakes failed. I have been online reading about the stories of these same complaints from many RAM & JEEP owners. How this company is getting away with safety issue is beyond me as this is going back to 2023, how are there no safety recalls on this not issued yet and customers not being reimbursed for the repairs. The issue was diagnosed by my independent mechanic using his scanner. If you require further info on this please feel free to reach out to me.

1. The specified vehicle has intermittent ABS/ Brake Hydraulic Control module error. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. 2. Error causes ABS and Cruise Control to be disabled while in motion as per warning messages displayed on instrument cluser and audio annunciation. 3. Driver and passenger were endangered due to ABS malfunctioning intermittently **while in motion**. I have reproduced the problem by causing a wheel slippage on wet pavement. This will cause the otherwise intermittent problem to be asserted with corresponding error messages/notifications to be displayed on instrument cluster. 4. The specified vehicle has NOT been inspected at a Ram dealer; however, the problem seems to be well-known on 2017-18 Ram 2500's and 3500's given the amount of Youtube videos on the topic as well as the amount of discussion on online forums such as [XXX] . 5. This 2018 vehicle has approx 43000 miles on it. The described problem was not detected until about 3 months ago (approx 8/2024). Warning lights for the ABS and the Electronic Brake System illuminated while driving, stating the systems must be serviced. The Cruise Control would either turn off or become nonfunctional. The tone would sound and the warning lights would illuminate. I took the truck in to the dealership after it happened but the lights would not come on while I was there. The dealership told me they could do nothing about it. After that, the tone began to sound and the lights came on again. We finally made it to the dealership when they could see the warnings. The service technician inspected the ABS and found that the ABS HCU had shorted internally. Further inspection found the ABS Module also shorted internally. Two trips were made to the dealership because the dealership did not have the parts in stock. This occurred at the same time as the cyberattacks which affected parts delivery and we were not notified the parts were in for over a month. The cost of the these two visits were over $1,400.

The contact owns a 2018 Ram 3500 and towing a 17,500 lbs RV 5th Wheel. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 60 MPH, the ABS and ESC warnings were illuminated. The contact stated the cruise control was engaged but when the ABS warning light illuminated, the cruise control disengaged. The failure was intermittent but was also occurring when not towing. A dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed and was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.

ABS failure warning lights on and off constantly. Dealer replaced failed HVU and ABS module for 1181$. This is an open investigation.

2018 Ram 3500 Diesel truck with 70,000 miles. While driving the "service electronic braking system" alarm goes off and ABS lights come on and cruise control is disabled, along with electronic stability control. This happened while towing a 20,000 lb fifth wheel trailer and continues to happen with or without a trailer behind the vehicle. This is a known safety problem and there are several class action lawsuits but Ram has yet to authorize a recall on 2018 models. They knew there were defective parts and even put out technical service bulletins to their dealer's service departments. This is a VERY DANGEROUS condition associates with almost all these model trucks. It seems Ram does not care about loss of life but only their profit margins.

The Hydraulic Control Unit is malfunctioning, as determined by a RAM truck dealer. The ABS brakes don't work as they should and the cruise control intermittently shuts off.

Service abs/ service electronic brake system/ traction control alarm flashing on/off intermittently with no specific times or conditions. This first happened in may 2024 on a 6 hour road trip. Occasionally I can take it on a short trip and it may not flash the message during that trip and at other times it is constantly going on and off. I have not had this looked at by the dealer. I have read the codes using my personal scanner and it shows C0020-01 (Active) ABS Pump Motor Control- General Electrical Failure. I do not drive this vehicle daily and I can not relate it to wear and tear because the vehicle only has 23,900 miles on it.

Abs and traction control malfunction. Yes,it’s it available for inspection. I feel that it’s not safe for my wife and I to drive while doing this. I started getting an intermittent error code on my truck with only 36k miles on it. the traction control, abs and cruise control wont work when the service electronic braking system code is present. I have done a lot of reading and this seems to be a very common issue with the 2017 and 2018 ram trucks. It is so common that I called my local dealer and the part is on back order for months. I am getting very close to taking a long road trip with a 20ft trailer, which is the reason I purchased this truck. Now I cant even get a replacement part, that is a known issue and I was quoted $1100 for it. Braking system seems to be a safety issue, why isn't ram doing something about this issue!

On September 8, 2024, I started getting intermittent ABS and Traction Control light with “Service Electronic Braking System”. Code C0020. When the light is on I lose cruise control. There is no specific condition that will cause the light to come on; i.e. bumps in the road, a certain speed, or setting at idle. The first instance of the light coming on, I was turning around in a parking lot, less than 5 mph. This cannot be associated to normal wear and tear. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND MUST BE A RECALL!!!

The anit-lock breaks on my vehicle will go out at random. This seems to happen when you need them most. In my case I was towing an 8,000 lb trailer and had to stop short. The anti-lock break and traction control lights came on simultaneously and the right front tire locked up making it difficult to steer the vehicle. Since that event the light will come on at random when hitting a bump in the road or when breaking hard. A driver might think the ABS system is working until they hit the brakes and it fails. This appears to be related to NHTSA Action Number PE22012 and I would like to add my vehicle to the list of impacted units.55

On my 2018 RAM 3500 Duel rear wheel truck the ABS Pump Motor Control Unit is throwing a common code and warning lights intermittently that other year models have (C0020-01). This code has been confirmed by my dealer several times and this truck does not fall under any recalls for the ABS systems. I pull a 40 camper with this truck and with out the ABS and Traction control it could be very dangerous to myself and and others. I have spoken to FCA and they only told me that my VIN does not fall under any more recall then what has already been done. I do not know what needs to get done to have FCA fix this problem or release parts to get it fixed.

Intermittent chime and warning that anti lock brake needs servicing. Cruise control does not work when notice is displayed and chiming. warning comes and goes randomly After researching this problem it appears that this is a regular problem on this year ram truck I will report and take to the dealer if problem remains.

Failed abs module and/or hcu. Truck is available for inspection. Loss of abs and traction control causes loss of control of truck in wet conditions when stopping or cornering. Hcu was replaced by dealer 10/12/21 @ 20,109 miles due to code c0020. (Abs pump control motor general failure) Same issue/code @ occured again @ 47,000 miles. Have not been back to dealer as the truck is out of warranty and the cost is almost $2000 for the repair. Service Abs/traction control/ electronic brake warning lights constantly go on and off and eventually stay on. This causes abs and traction control to be unreliable and is extremely dangerous on wet roads and also dangerous to other vehicles on the road.

Antilock Braking System failure with my 2018 RAM 3500 Dually. The vehicle’s anti-lock brake system error, also causes the cruise control and traction control systems to become inoperable. The old HCU is currently on the vehicle for inspection by additional parties. This issue increases the risk to safety to vehicle occupants and public, for control of the vehicle, under wet or slick road conditions. As mitigation, while dealing with the defective part/system, drivers need to remember to operate vehicle differently in adverse conditions. Both a local shop and the Doge/RAM dealer confirmed the HCU needed to replaced. RAM MOPAR would not sell the HCU part to local shop for quick repair. Then I waited 5 weeks for service appointment at the local Dodge/RAM dealer, 1 week for estimate, 1 week for HCU part to arrive and schedule appointment, then finally 4 weeks to get appointment to (hopefully fix the problem, plaguing RAM owners due to the defect). I already had the unit replaced at 41K under warranty by the Dodge/RAM dealer, but unfortunately I am 1K miles out of warranty (75,000mi) on the second event, and estimated to cost me ~$750. The defective Hydraulic Control Unit, HCU, started to fail around July 1, 2024 sending service messages intermittently, and progressively got more as time went on. Both a local shop and the Doge/RAM dealer confirmed the HCU needed to replaced. The old HCU is currently on the vehicle for inspection by additional parties.

ABS/ HCU ISSUES- BLINKING LIGHTS, Hendrick Dodge service in Cary, NC has the 2018 Dodge Ram 3500 in for service to replace the draglink that was another recall for 2nd time to replace the draglink this time. I know there is class action lawsuit 2023 file against FCA on the ABS modules and HCU's for 2017 &2018 ram 2500 and 3500 trucks.

We purchased the vehicle as a back up for when my husbands every day work truck is in need of service. The truck is from 2018 and now has about 40,600 miles because it isn't used often. The truck would start flashing a light saying service anti-lock brake system sometimes during the time the light was flashing it felt like the brakes struggled a little. We have sent it in to get repaired and they quoted us over $1300 of repairs because it needs a an abs module and pump.

Intermittent issues with the cruise control system and the ABS electronic braking system. The lights will flash on and off and the beeping is constant. If beating on the side of steering wheel will allow you to turn cruise control, then the ABS system will be okay for unknown reasons it will start flashing again and cancel the cruise control and the system will start flashing check the ABS electronic braking systems.

Lights and chimes constantly signaling trouble with ABS/Traction Control system. OBD 2 indicates ABS Module failure but have read online it could also be HCU pump, a connection problem or a combination of issues. At this point the warning lights are on constantly while driving. No cruise control available. Talked to dealership and informed they are aware of the issue as it is wide spread with several models. Long back order and wait times for upgraded parts. Seems clear it is a safety issue.

My car keeps giving the warning that the ABS brakes need to be serviced.

We bought this truck from a dealer in March of 2023. We were never informed by the dealer that the truck had this issue. ABS light and traction control lights come on & stay on for periods of time. Sometimes lights come on & off repeatedly while driving along with chime on & off. When lights come on, there is no cruise control available to use. I took it to the dealer we purchased from over a year ago and was told there was no solution for the problem. They said it was under an engineering review. No parts were available for a fix. I have documentation from the previous owner that this was occurring when he owned it in April of 2022. Since we pull trailers with equipment and also a large fifth wheel camper, we feel very unsafe when the ABS braking system and the traction control goes out while driving this vehicle. It is available for inspection upon request. When will there be a repair for this?

A diagnostic code has been displayed for the Anti-Lock Brake System - C0020-01 —> ABS Pump Motor Control - General Electrical Failure. Going over a bump in the road will cause the ABS system to deactivate the cruise control. The diagnostic code can be cleared and the cruise control will resume. Reading on RAM / Cummins online sites, many say that either the HCU and / or ABS Module needed to be replaced and many submitted reports to the NHTSA to start an investigation. No damage has been evidenced at any of the wheel sensors. With the ABS illuminated, it appears that the unit wouldn’t function if needed. The clearing of codes has been done numerous times. First noticed in about January 2024.

HCU / ABS light lmaps started flickering and now stays on I only have 42k miles on this truck. When I researched come yo find out everyone is having the same problem with the 2017 and 2018 this is a safety problem that needs to be fixed. I was on a wet road went to stop abs light came om I slid alot scared me to death considering I was pulling a 10k lb trailer behind me. The ABS system failure and traction control lights came on and have been coming on intermittently. This failure has caused the vehicle not to retain cruise control and brake and stability control being reduced or potentially off could result in an accident. Upon research, this is a very common and costly issue not covered by warranty work, this seems to be something Ram should fix as it is a safety issue.

The component that failed was a brake module. It caused the loss of ABS and TCS. The part was claimed to be on backorder, and it took seven months for the part to be replaced. This forced me to drive an unsafe vehicle.

ABS and Electronic Braking control modules have not been working for 13+ months. Originally diagnosed by dealership July 2023. Been trying to get RAM / Stellantis to fix it. Been told parts are back ordered or not available due to re-engineering. Have heard there are hundreds of trucks impacted at each dealership. Why hasn’t there been a recall and why is RAM not helping me to get it resolved? Another call with them today 8/13/2024 and the dealership just needs the approval for cost for the HCU and RAM Customer Care is not responding and when they do, it takes days and no resolution.

HCU / ABS system failed at 34,000 miles resulting in the ABS system and speed control system not working as designed. It was a costly repair not covered under warranty however it needed to be repaired as not having the braking system working as designed was unsafe. This is a known issue with the 2017 and 2018 RAM heavy duty trucks. This unit was recalled on newer models however the the 2017 and 2018 models were not recalled resulting in an expensive required repair.

The ABS light intermittently comes on/off. It pops up while driving, but goes away. Sometimes it goes on/off several times on short drives. I need to know if this is going to lead to an all out failure of the braking system or something else. I confirmed with the dealer, where I purchased the truck, that it's a known issue and the part is on national backorder. The ABS warning system is constantly going off with dash warning lights and alarm, it turns off cruse control when this happens. The truck is unsafe with out the abs working and dangerous because it will turn off the cruse when the error is displayed causing unexpended deacceleration. This happens when ever the veh is driven over and over. I took it to the local ram dealership. They told me that they can not figure out what the issue is......They told me I have to leave the truck at the dealership for a week at my expense (gas and insurance and they would not be responsible for damage) so they could drive it around and "test" it they were very unhelpful, they said they never ran across this issue prior. They were very stubborn on the actual issue and would not answer questions In the mean time the dealer attempted to sell me an oil change and oil filter change for close to $1000.00 that they were very insistent on. (with less that 3000 miles on the current oil and filter change) so this was unneeded. They were using the fault to upsell service and no attempt to correct it.

Repeated, intermittent warning to service electronic braking system and service antilock braking system, both of which cause the cruise control to disengage. On multiple occasions, the disengagement of the cruise control has nearly caused me to be hit from the rear. Multiple forum posts indicate that this is a common problem.

We receive a ABS/ECS, electronic brake control warning intermittently. This also makes the cruise control shutoff. We had the ABS control module replaced once at roughly 12000 miles under warranty but it now is giving the same warnings and the truck currently has 22000 miles on it. My dealer stated this was a known issue and stated it’s fairly common on my model truck

I have a 2018 RAM 3500 with ONLY 20,000 miles on it. ABS and HUC critical parts are faulty, and I have no way to even purchase one until a recal is issued. Class Action Says 2017-2018 Ram 2500, 3500 Equipped with Defective Anti-Lock Braking Systems. No current part that resolves this issue. Ram 2500 and 3500 pickups are unsafe because they’re equipped with defective hydraulic control units (HCUs) and anti-lock braking systems (ABS). RAM knows about it and has ALL the modules on engineering hold. These parts have not been available for almost a year. No antilock brakes. No traction control. I can’t haul anything or use cruse control. Error lights keep popping up sporadically with dinging sounds, driving me crazy. It is "Service Electronic Brake System" with continuous ABS and STC fault warnings. This truck is dangerous to drive, a recall is a NO BRAINER!!!! I am writing for three reasons. 1. You need to get our dealer the parts now so we may have a safe vehicle, or 2. replace this truck with a new one if you cant repair ours ASAP, and 3. To make sure I have this all documented in case of any serious accident where you will have to assume all liability and responsibility if this occurs due to your lack of ability to repair this safety system.

Abs / hcu has malfunctioned again, has already been replaced once around 20,000 miles now I’m around 58,000 miles and having same issues. Abs and traction control not working. In a truck with this much torque it is a serious problem. This is a well documented issue with the system and FCA should make it right. I found a video on line that explains the issue is with the brushes on the motor being held in to tightly. Should be a simple solution and is obviously a design flaw. There should be a safety recall asap. I assume that this problem happens with most of the heavy duty trucks.

ABS braking system, electronic braking system warning light and signal is coming on every few seconds when driving. This renders the cruise control to shut off when it comes on. There are numerous safety issues with this coming on and off not to mention it is annoying as…..well let me just leave it there. Have talked to dealers (2) and have been told that dodge has a fix but the parts are still on back order. I have been having this issue for about 6 to 7 months and it is making the truck undrivable for any distance at all due to the nuisance alarm every mile or so.

The message “service electronic braking system” and service antilock brake system” periodically displays on the driver information screen. If I’m using cruise control when the message comes on the cruise control abruptly disengages causing a lurching slowdown. Often times it chimes and the message displays and disappears and comes back on and off numerous times.

It appears that Ram years 2017-2018 have a known problem with the ABS pump. I have my 3500 ram in the shop now with only 30,000 miles and they are telling me the ABS pump needs to be replaced at a cost of roughly $1200.00. It is my understanding that there is a class action lawsuit and wondering why these vehicle have not been re-called? Major safety issue!

Vehicle was purchased used in Feb 2024 with 77000 miles. As I was leaving the dealer (Carmax), gauge cluster lit-up with Service ABS System and chimes. Spoke with dealer and they said to take it to Ram Dealer for diagnosis. Unit was diagnosed as needing a new ABS electronic AND hydraulic control module. Dealer was unable to get parts due to issues with FCA and parts not being available. Parts were on backorder until June 204. Continued driving vehicle, with ABS light coming on/off and ABS intermittently working and not. In June 2024, spoke to Ram Dealer, and FCA is saying I have to get the Electronic module replaced first. Ram Dealer replaced this on Friday 6/21/24 and things seemed fine. About 50 miles after picking up the truck (Saturday the 22nd), while towing my 20000 pound trailer (with my wife/kid/dog inside) the vehicle started losing power while on the freeway. I was able to get the vehicle to the shoulder and the hydraulic brakes on the truck were fully locked up. I had to put the vehicle in 4-lo to overcome the brakes to get the truck separated from the trailer so it could be towed to the dealership. The dealer has 3 other 2018 ram trucks on their lot with the same issue.

The vehicle is displaying a "Service Electric Brake System" message indicating failure of the HCU and ABS system and possibly affecting stability control. There is a lengthy history of this issue with the 2500 and 3500 trucks but no fix, resolution or recall appears to be available for this issue.

Antilock brake warning light that says service antilock brake system comes on often if you hit any bump or rough spot. It continually dings and then the cruise won’t work. We have been told the part to fix it is unavailable. It is a horrible thing that cannot be repaired.

I have been receiving an error for my electronic braking systems and ABS since July of 2023. I have been to various dealerships to have it fixed and have been told it is on a "galactic back order" - words from Dodge to the service advisors. I have attempted several times to contact Customer Care at Dodge over many months. My cases have been closed without resolution and with false promises of management will reach out to assist me. All I need is the 2 parts to be replaced so that I can use my cruise control and not have the constant dinging of the warning for the ABS and EBS. It has been very annoying and if there is such a large back order with others having this same issue, how come there is not a recall? It is the braking system.

My anit lock brake warning keeps going on and off

ABS and traction light on dash. At 72,000 miles, I'm unable to drive my truck due to ABS module back ordered. Either I drive it and take a risk, or let it sit and rot. Purchased brand new in 2019. I have paid 965.00 monthly since 2019 and still owe 12,000 for a vehicle I do not feel safe in. I can't send a invoice, because the mechanic is not able to fix due to lack of parts.

Making a alert sound about every 3 seconds making distractive driving I am currently #28 in line for the part in a small town and it's been 2 months now. They need a recall on this. They are being negligent by not saying there is a problem.

1. "Service ABS soon" and Service Electronic System soon warning light and alarm occurs at random times. Failure code C0020-01. 2. Unsure if the braking system will actually work when needed. This vehicle is used to tow large heavy trailers and I just don't trust the breaks. 3. Took it to a repair shop since my warranty has expired. 4. No warning prior to failure. Failure occurred Jan 2024.

Bought from a dealership a couple months ago (JAN 2024). Immediately started blinking electronic ABS error. Took in to get serviced, and now maintenance department is stating a replacement HCU and additional service will cost around $3.5k on a vehicle that has around 68k miles.

The Anti-lock Braking System module and the Hydraulic Control Unit originally equipped on 2018 Dodge Ram 3500. Vehicle is available for inspection upon request. Problem has been identified in 2020 by dealership upon delivery when issue first presented itself, and fixed by dealership. Issue came back in January 2023. I took the vehicle to an independent mechanic and the module was sent to have fixed. When the part was sent back after repair, the problem wasn't fixed. There were no known issues prior to the failure.

The ABS warning light illuminates, and warning chimes continually go off as I drive. I've been literally waiting years for a fix (since 2020). The dealer says the parts are unavailable. In the meantime, I intermittently have no ABS, cruise control, or trailer brakes. This is concerning because I tow a heavy trailer. It is very easy to lose control if you're not careful.

The ABS systems constantly shuts down, causing the Traction Control system to shut down. When I recently went on a trip towing my trailer I needed to stop on a downhill wet incline. When I first applied the brakes the system was working properly but failed during my stop and it caused a significant steering issue as I had to now react differently. This is a safety concern and RAM knows about it. I am paying for a vehicle that is unsafe to drive in less than perfect conditions. Very dissatisfied with RAM

ABS failure light started coming on along with service electronic brake system. Dealer shows I believe code 0020 which is the ABS/HUC pump failure. Dealer says seeing it quite often, hard to get parts as each part is allocated and tested before leaving. So I either stop driving it and wait for parts which seems to be a known issue or keep driving and hope for the best while the engineers try to figure out what is going on. Currently it is sitting at the dealer as they try to get the part before we leave on a trip at the end of the month.

ABS light started flashing and cruse control quit working. Scanned for codes and found P0020-01 ABS control module. Searched online and found 1000's of cases of problems related to this.

ABS,brake system came on first time on or about july 8th or so,in bad weather, hard rain had to come to sudden stop and lost control wheels locked up. But no harm done just nerves Dealer said bad control unit antilock brake system and replaced hydraulic brake part at 18386 miles, all good since. now its back same thing now there is 32210 miles on truck and same thing now ,abs brake system. Trackion control They said internal failure of unit the first time . Now we have to start all over again with the risk of braking safety at 32210 miles on Ram

the following messages appear randomly and frequently resulting in a dash lamp/ chime and loss of cruise control electronic braking system fault. HCU electronic error (stored code) many reports of the same problem I've read about.

The hydraulic control unit (HCU) and the anti-lock braking system (ABS) module on our truck has been triggering the warning light and bell notification for almost a year & we have yet to be able to get this repaired as the part is supposedly back-ordered (for a year?!?!?) We pull a fifth wheel with this vehicle and any sort of braking component issue is a recipe for a potentially disastrous incident on the road. We try not to drive the vehicle, but sometimes that isn't always feasible or practical. We are at a loss at this point.

02/11/2021 - ABS module unit replaced under warranty 06/2023 - Intermittent dash warning lights and chiming alert occurring. Dodge dealership states it needs a new ABS module, however the part is "backordered" and not available. Truck is out of warranty. 09/2023 - Dodge dealership informed me that part cannot be ordered until January 2024 01/2024 - Dodge dealership states that part is still backordered and none are available. 05/02/2024 - Part is still unavailable. Warning lights and chiming has been occurring for a year and there is no other way to fix the problem. Why are so many of these vehicles experiencing the same problems with owners unable to replace the faulty part?

At 9,040 miles, display reads “Service Antilock Brake System” along with warning lights for abs and traction control and a loud dinging. It goes off, then back on multiple times until serviced when the dealership replaced the faulty HCU Sept. 2020 under warranty. Diagnostic code C0020-01 ABS pump motor general electrical failure 2023 the problem comes back but nothing done. 2024 after much research, found the newer replacement HCU had just been revised in April with a new part number. At 25,837 miles back to the dealership for another replacement, this time paying out of pocket, over $300 for part and over $600 for labor. It’s only been a short time but so far, no warning about a faulty abs. I do have the old part if inspection is necessary. There is an FCA service bulletin out #S2005000004; NHTSA #10181550 It says if the HCU doesn’t fix the problem, replace the ECU, but that is not available and no ETA. Lucky to get the HCU because that is a very limited part. This is a safety issue because not only does the ABS and traction control go out but you also lose cruise control and 4wd while driving. There should be a recall with all the complaints. Not sure what good a recall would do if parts aren’t available anyway. Telling someone who just spent a fortune on buying this truck not to drive it because of this, is not an option.

Electronic Braking System failure. ABS lights come on the dash, chimes constantly and disengages the cruise control. The vehicle looses ability to use ABS. Ability to control vehicle safely when ABS disengages is a critical failure. I'm told by the dealer that NO parts available from the manufacture to cure this issue. This is an unacceptable answer to a known issue for years. Many RAM owners have complained about this on RAM related forums and on YouTube. I am adding my vehicle to list of vehicles impacted by this catastrophic failure to create a safe vehicle to drive. Why has the NHTSA not fined RAM and forced a recall? How many people have to die from ABS braking failure to qualify for a recall? I don't want to be the last death before something is done to make my truck safe to drive.

The truck is getting constant ABS failure messages, such as (1) “Service electronic braking system”, and (2) “Service antilock brake system “. When either of these rear their ugly heads, there is multiple loud dinging sounds (which startles the driver), and the cruise control gets turned off. Why hasn’t there been a safety recall?!?! If you guys can’t see that a failed braking system is NOT a safety issue, then our country is way worse than I already thought it was!!!! BRAKES ARE A SAFETY ISSUE!!!! Not only are they a safety issue, but thousands and thousands of 2017 & 2018 RAM 2500 and RAM 3500 owners are having these exact issues in the United States!! While driving, the "service electronic brakes " and traction control light will come on periodically, then go away. The issue is random and not consistent or easy to predict. If the cruise control is active, the cruise control will disengage and the truck will start to slow down. The brakes seem to work the same even if the light is on or off.

I get a message on my dash to service antilock brake system. The lights come on as well as the check engine light and there is a bell that dings when this happens.

ABS brake module fails and the vehicle looses its ABS braking capability. Other functions are affected as well, anti skid and cruise control. Major safety issue! This vehicle is now in need of 3rd module in under 100,000 miles. This is unacceptable Stellantis/Chysler Corporation has full knowledge of this component weakness and has not improved or recalled this part. Thank you

Abs and traction control continues to fail. I bought all new sensors. Then replaced abs module and pump and lights went away, after a year they all came back on and it's a repeat process.

The alarm light and bell goes off. The 'Service Antilock Brake System' and 'Service Electronic Braking System' lights flash. This occurs intermittently while pulling a 5th wheel camper. The brakes work @ 30-40% strength. This is a safety issue. We thought it was an issue with the campers breaks, however, after connecting it to another trailer, the same thing happened. We had to take it to the dealership with a trailer to get it to repeat issue so that they could determine what the issue was. The Dealership ran a Diagnosis on the truck and the DTC, Diagnosis Trouble Code was C0020-01 ABS Pump General Failure. The dealership recommended replacing the HCU, Hydraulic Control Unit. They did not have the part and said it was on backorder. The unit costs $830.49. This doesn't include labor.

Originally had a warning light show on the dash that said electronic brake system failure and an ABS warning light. Spent over $800 to have this problem repaired and in less than a year the part failed again and same problem occurred. However, his time due to price increases the repair will cost over $1200. When this happens you lose your ABS brakes as well as the ability to operate the cruise control. This is a known safety issue with thousands of trucks affected and Ram refuses to address the problem other than to charge the consumer to replace a part which will knowingly fail again. Even worse, according to my dealer the part isn’t currently available and their recommendation is to not drive the truck until the problem is fixed because the ABS brake failure is a huge risk/liability. For over 3 months the ABS Brake warning, the anti skid control and the cruise has not worked in my truck. I have had it to two different dealers, and opened a case with Ram. Case#89336043. They told me part is not available and has not been for the past year. Just drive my truck like it is??? I dont really know what options i have at this point. Please help!

The warning light comes on and then the traction control goes off and the cruise control will disengage all at once. There is also no trailer brake assist. This has been verified by a dealer in Columbus, GA. It is constantly going off and on. The warning light and the warning bell are a constant distraction to the driver. The truck was bought and within 50K miles it started. No warning.

ABS/TRACTION CONTROL light comes on and goes off at random times while driving. Sometimes when I hit a bump, other times just going down a smooth street or even sitting at a stop light or just sitting at idle in a parking lot. When the lights are on I do not have use of cruise control, traction Control or ABS. I had the code read. It shows c2200-49 ABS internal electronic failure C0020-01 ABS pump motor control - general electrical failure. This has been a problem for about 2 years, and started around 85k miles. Sometimes it happens 30-40x in a 30min drive, other times I'll go weeks with the system working properly, then It starts acting up again. I just recently heard they were investigating the 2018 models for this issue.

The ABS HCU failed and sent a "service electronic brake" warning to the dash. The replacement part was in short supply by Stellantis because there are so many vehicles with this problem. The dealer is limited to one part replacement per week.

The rear lug nuts sheared off two different times hauling a camper, also was involved in a wreck where the truck hydro planed now the traction control lights are on also the low coolent light is on and there is plenty of fluid in the tanks

My electronic braking system and abs is malfunctioning with a light on in the dash, it started out intermittently and is now constant. Took it to local dealer and they ordered parts to repair it but told me they were on back order and then Chrysler canceled the order on them unbeknownst to me or the dealer. Contacted Chrysler and they have no idea when parts will be available. I can get no guarantee on weather or not my truck is safe to drive as is.

ABS, Cruise Control and Traction control warning lights constantly flash on dash informing me that they are disabled. Dealer is saying that Ram canceled their part order for the ABS module part number 68347098AC needed to do the repair with an estimated 1 year date before it is available. Truck is unsafe to drive due to ABS and traction control being inoperable and was warned I may be liable if I choose to drive it and an accident were to happen.

Abs/traction control light. Dealer says it needs a new abs module and pump. It’s too new to have these issues, dealer states that it is not a recall and I would have to pay out of pocket ($1600) for the repairs. This is not safe at all. Getting the "Service Electronic Brake System" alarm. Had this when it was under warranty and it was "Fixed". I am now getting this same error again. ABS, traction control and cruise control are all disabled when this warning occurs.

In May of 2023 while towing my boat I got warning bells and flashing lights, alerting me of the failure of the ABS brake system. In a few miles the warning went away. Then came back on, about 12 times in 20 miles. I also lost my cruise control and traction control. I took to the dealer, about 10 times before they were able to have the episode happen. It was intermittent at first but VERY annoying and Unsafe. The ABS system is almost always in failure mode and has been since about August. They order the parts in June, I'm still waiting. I use the truck to tow a car , a 34 foot 5th wheel and numerous other heavy loads. ABS is very important as is the cruise on my long trips. I'm still waiting, no help at all from Chrysler corporation!! Almost everyone I've talked to with a 3500 and larger truck, has had it fail. I'm tired of paying for a vehicle that is unsafe to drive. I want Chrysler to offer to buy it back, offer a good trade or repair. Please make them fix what they sell!!

i had my ABS system repaired at my local RAM dealership under the original ABS recall, it is now malfunctioning again abs/traction control and brake light on , i took it back to the dealership which has changed hands and they didn't seem interested in repairing it and they said it was on national backorder anyway , so i've had to remove the fuse so i can at least drive it without the warning bell dinging all the time , this needs to be recalled again because its very dangerous

As I'm sure you are aware of the ABS issues these vehicles have had over the last few years without any sort of correction it has been a nightmare. The ABS light and service electronic braking system has been beeping for over a year and the dealers and parts people have no resolve for this. We have recently been able to do what was RECOMMENDED by the dealers and found a used module to replace ours that is not working, but for a $1,650.55 repair getting a used part does not make me feel good about it, considering there's nothing to say this unit will not do the same thing in a few months. Again, we have been dealing with this for over a year and was told some point last year things were under review and waited 6 months for that review to be cleared and approved to only be told the review process was extended to try and find some resolve and still do not have any news from the Dealers or Manufacturers about this. To be such a huge safety component of the vehicle you would expect some sense of urgency on this matter, but that has not been the case for us or many others in this same situation.

Faulty abs and hcu module. They are defective units and discontinued for purchase. I contacted local dealer and parts are on back order for 5 months.

The lights will go off and then come back on own their own, even when the truck is sitting still with nothing hooked to it.

In 2020 my abs traction control warning light came on took truck to dealership. They replaced ABS motor. 1 1/2 year later the warning lights started to flash on which progressed into always on by April 2023. I had the truck at dealership for another recall and they tested and system. Dealership stated they would repair under warranty. I have been waiting 10 months for repair and they state they cannot order the part yet 3/2/2024 since they can only order so many per month and there is a long list in front of me. I have noticed a loss of braking power. And I am not able to use cruise control either

There is an ongoing issue on the 2018 model RAM 3500 trucks, with their braking system. This is the 4th time that my ABS brakes have failed. There should have been a recall a long time ago. This last time the ABS failed, I brought the truck to the Garber Dealership in Greencove Springs, FL 31 July 2024. They didn't have the part and stated that it wouldn't be available until Feb 2024. They received the part (Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU)) and I brought my truck in to have the repair conducted 13 Feb 2024. The dealership called me later that day and told me that they ran into an issue that the HCU was not communicating with the ABS Module and the technician was unable to bleed the brakes. She said that they needed to order the ABS Module. After not hearing any status following that, I called back the late afternoon of 15 Feb 2024 and was told that the part wouldn't be available until June. Prior to bringing in the truck, I had brakes, just not ABS which also cancels out cruise control and trailer brakes. Now it has NO brakes and it sits on their lot until June. I bought the truck new from this dealership and the following is the history of every time the HCU and ABS Module was replaced: 1st time, 12 Sep 2029, 5,374 miles; 2nd time, 11 Mar 2021, 13,136 miles; 3rd time, 19 Aug 2022, 20,607 miles; 4th and current time, 31 July 2023, 29,769 miles. The truck's ABS system becomes disabled after the ABS light intermittently comes on. Ram dealer diagnosis is a faulty abs pump and module. The parts are not available to fix the vehicle. ETA is June 30, 2024.

ABS Code C0020-01-ABS PUMP MOTOR CONTROL - GENERAL ELECTRICAL FAILURE

I purchased vehicle new June 2018. On [XXX]. I had a Fault code of ABS brakes system and took to Mountain Valley motors Blue Ridge, Georgia for repair and replacement of hydraulic control unit. At that time the mileage 22,140. [XXX] had the same failure again and the fault code reading service ABS brake system. Took the truck to Jim Brown Dade city Florida for Repair with the fault, code reading, and replaced again the same hydraulic control unit for the brake system. Second replacement of same part. Mileage 31,482. [XXX] had the same reoccurring fault code service antilock brake system when red same problem replace hydraulic control unit for the ABS brake system. Had that repair done again and mileage 37,290. At that time they had stated a new hydraulic control part was available with part number ending in AB. Part installed 68143491AB. After returning home, approximately 120 miles later, I am having fault flash on dash screen again, saying to service ABS brake system and then disappears. I took the truck to the dealership Jim Brown. They connected their computer and said there was no codes to be read. I again had the same message flash up every day. The first time I started the vehicle and would disappear. I took the vehicle back to Jim Brown dealership. They read the code again with an additional approximate 140 miles, and no code appeared on the computer. I was told, then to just let the part fail. Is that putting me and my family in jeopardy possibly fatally by a manufacturer refusing to repair vehicle which has been a known issue before 2017 based on ram TSB advisories that I have in my possession, addressing the issue of the faulty ABS braking system. I have exhausted, all avenues with ram cares and ram dealership to. Please advise where I can go with this issue. I was driving my family and the ABS light randomly popped on during a rain event and the vehicle had difficulty keeping traction. The vehicle was scanned and the code C002-01 was displayed meaning that the ABS module had issues. The vehicle has not been inspected, today, February 13th 2024 I reached out to Tacoma Dodge where the vehicle has previously been serviced to determine if this was a known issue since after a quick google it sounds like I am not the only one experiencing the issue. More digging pulled up a publication from Ram #S2005000004 which talks about the issue and parts being restricted. I also found an additional source that mentioned a class action lawsuit. I figured it was in my best interest and other owners who have experienced this issue to notify the NHTSA to assist with the investigation.

The truck will continually flash an ABS and Electronic Break System (EBS) service light with alert ding. I replaced the ABS pump and it went away for a while and now it is back with no parts to be ordered to fix. This has become a known problem on all 2017-2018 Ram 2500 and 3500 trucks. This issue is ongoing and there is no rhyme or reason as to why it is happening. The only option is to replace the ABS hydraulic pump.

ABS mogel is defective and needs to be replaced. ABS light and chimes come on constantly. Affecting braking and lose of cruise control ability. This is a know fact that it is a defective part on ram trucks.

Vehicle began flashing abs light and traction control light. Took vehicle in for repair. Was told this is a known issue and they are unable to aquire parts until june 2024 currently January 2024. Drove on 1-25-24 light was off used the breaks and abs light came on and breaks locked up and continued to skid on the ice almost causing me to go threw a stop sign into a ditch.

SERVICE ANTILOCK BRAKING SYSTEM

3 yrs ago, took to dealership for light for electronic brake module, was told that the part was on backorder. Picked up truck and was told that they would let us know when part came in, have called and spoken to at least 11 different service reps and a managers (Dodge as well) over the last 3 years. They close the tickets after a certain amount of time and you have to explain yourself over and over and get the same answer, the part is on national backorder. Our warranty expired 10/2023, there is still no recall on our truck but other truck have a recall. I have tried and called the 1-800 number to get help with this matter and still we have a vehicle that we may cause injury to us or others. Please help!

Abs brake service light is on and off while driving or when hitting bumps or parked and applying the brakes.it intermediate on then off . This is a low miles vehicle and is used basically to tow from time to time.After doing my research this is a problem with the abs system malfunctioning. Haven reported to a dealer yet but research say these parts are in back order for long waiting periods.

Continued intermittent ABS light and "service ABS System" message with annoying / distracting chime, Loss of ABS and traction control, I have had several instances when the braking of the truck has been affected and could have easily caused an accident. Between the braking issues and the constant distraction of the vehicle chiming and alerting of a system issue, this needs to be looked into. the number of complaints does not show the actual number of people that are having the same issues. I have talked with several other owners that have had the same issue and the dealership repaired them but not reporting anything.

The ABS system doesn't work when the lights are on and they come on alot. This I believe is a safety issue since it came with an ABS system to keep from locking up the brakes when having to brake hard to avoid a collision.

When I was returning from a trip across town my "service electronic brake system " came on with a chime and then went out. This was followed by check "service brake system" which also went out. They stayed off for a few days and then did it again. This condition got more and more frequent. I took it to the dealer and was told that it needed a ABS control module. I felt this was very early for an ABS failure with only 30762 miles on the unit. I now have 48845 miles and the ABS light is coming on and off ( with it's chime ) even when I sit at a traffic light not moving and going down the road it is almost constant. I have read in the Ram forums that this is a common issue. I believe this to be a safety issue. Why have ABS if it's not going to work.

While driving, my "service electronic brake system" and "service antilock brake system" would come on and go off repeatedly. Other times, nothing would happen. Then it would come back on and stay on. Next time, nothing would come on. Shop states that it was antilock brake pump. He said that these are known to be bad but the part is backordered with no timeline available.

Starting in May 2023 mu truck has experience intermittent ABS System errors and Service Electronic Braking System service messages. At many times the errors will repeatedly clear and reoccur, sometimes as frequently as once every second or two. Sometimes the error messages come on and remain so for long periods. When in an error state, the ABS system is not functional and the vehicle will not allow activation of cruise control. My RAM dealer has advised that, despite the fact that this issue has been ongoing with RAM trucks for over years, there are no parts available and ETA for a redesigned part has just been delayed 6 months to June 2024. This is a faulty safety system.

ABS light goes on and off. I took it to a dealer and was told it was a C0020-01 ABS pump motor control electrical failure. There is no fix at this time as Ram is looking into the problem and will not supply any fixes until further investigation. 2018 Ram 3500 has a code C0020-01 anti lock braking pump motor failure. Seems to be a common problem that Ram trucks has not recalled. this is a blatant safety issue that they seem to be ignoring. From what I understand these Ram Pickups have numerous problems with the ABS module and HCU unit going out and our truck has had the same problem we had to replace the HCU unit at only 10876 miles on November 4. 2020 and now we have had the ABS warning lights coming on and took to dealer on 10/11/23 with only 22287 miles and they say we need a ABS module, we are told this part 68347098AB is on back order and as of January we still have not received it and now dealer is telling us they came out with new part number. For ram not to be able to provide parts to fix their defective braking system parts is a safety issue and Ram should make this an urgent recall issue and pay for the replacement. You cannot find the part anywhere and Ram Truck owners are having to drive with dinging warning lights and unsafe braking issues.

Service Electronic Brake System Warning. This warning started coming on sporadically. When the warning appears in my dash, I will lose abs function, traction control, and cruise control. This appears to be a common problem with this year Ram truck. The fix is an abs module, and or, a hcu module.

The Anti-Lock Brake & Electronic Braking System error caused the internal Trailer Brake system to shut off trailer brakes just like it shuts off the cruise control when warnings come up on the dashboard. The incident happened Aug 28, 2023 while following my son and my wife in a vehicle ahead of me. I had to change lanes to try to avoid something that suddenly came across in front of my vehicle. I applied the brakes and then the trailer acted like it didn't have any brakes fell over & was totaled. If this was in traffic someone could have been killed. The "Check Anti-Lock Brake System" & "Check Electronic Brake System" warnings started coming up intermittently as I drove my RAM 3500 Diesel truck starting sometime around July 2023. I drove to the local RAM dealer and told them about the problem. They acted like they had never heard of this problem and proceeded to check the error code and then stated they had never heard of this error before. They said they would check with RAM engineering on what needed to be done. They then said there were other similar RAM trucks with the same issue & that the parts were on back order. I finally got an appointment for the dealer to check my truck after sending an email to the Service Supervisor. After they checked my truck on August 16, 2023 they said that my truck needed a new Anti-Lock Brake Control Module. I had seen that many others on the internet blogs had stated that both the Anti-Lock Brake Control Module and the Hydraulic Control Module (HCM) needed to be replaced. I was then told by the service person that the Anti-Lock Brake Control Module would not be available for months (until sometime in December) and the Hydraulic Control Module (HCU) had no date of availability. They also checked with the RAM technicians at the dealership about safety driving the truck and towing a trailer until the part came in. They told me that only the Anti-Lock Brakes may not work so it would be safe to continue to drive it and tow a trailer.

The HCU failed twice under warranty illuminating the ABS and TRAC lights disabling ABS functions (obviously fixed by a dealership). This is a safety hazard trying to stop a RAM 3500 without ABS, this in poor weather is beyond UNSAFE. Now, it has failed again not under warranty, same issue, same part. That is four units that have failed in my truck with only 27,000 miles in five years. The brushes in the electric motor start to fail so the ABS/TRAC light will flicker when hitting bumps, or in cold weather. The finally, they stay illuminated disabling crucial brake components and safety systems. I can have my vehicle looked at if necessary, I plan on replacing the HCU myself when the part arrives in a week (I work for a dealership).

In September 2023 I started getting a warning to service the ABS system. The warning and associated annoying tone would appear and than disappear at different times. I spoke with the service manager from Lithia Dodge where I purchased the truck. He told me that he was unable to service my truck because the ABS parts are not available. I was told that like a great number of Ram truck owners, I had to "hurry up and wait for a solution." This is unacceptable. To make matters worse, I am moving out of the country in February. I had a buyer for my truck and now it is un-sellable due to this ABS issue. I hope that a re-call will be issued soon so those of us with this common issue can get some relief. Thank you

Dealing with intermittent service brake system messages for over a year now. Light is constant now which means my ABS / anti skid/ and cruise control no longer function. Believe this is the ongoing HCU / ABS module known issue. Frustrating going into the winter months with such a heavy vehicle and loss of safety feature with no fix from Ram.

Traction control and abs lights have been coming on randomly while driving over the past several years. Seems worse and more frequent in cold temperatures. Scanner reads code C0020. I have a 2018 Ram 3500 with the Cummins 6.7 diesel engine. My ABS traction control lights constantly kick on and off. This is unknown problem as the ABS module needs to be replaced. When the lights kick on, I have no antilock brakes, no traction control and four-wheel-drive will not work. I think they replaced the HCU and control module in about 2020-21, but not sure. The lights continually flash again (starting at about 50K miles) and I'm assuming another HCU failure, but it's out of warranty and was told by dealer a year ago that it would be a expensive fix at my expense, and that they would have the truck for a while and may not be able to get parts. I was told that after getting it fixed, they could see if it would be eligible for any coverage, but their work was only guaranteed for 10k miles. I've researched it and discovered the original part was replaced by another part number, although the new part seems to fail as often, and it's usually the HCU and/or electric motor on HCU. I tried reporting this before, but got no confirmation or follow up from manufacturer of NHTSA, so I'm not sure it went thru. Truck currently has about 63k miles.

The Hydraulic Control Unit Chrysler part number 68143491AA failed and was replaced on my vehicle. I had the vehicle back to the dealer numerous times before they replaced this item. 14000 miles later the same problems are happening again. This causes the Anti-lock braking system and Traction control system to no longer function limiting function under wet or slippery conditions. This puts the driver and others at risk. The vehicle/component has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others. The warning lamps and messages will flicker on and off repeatedly and randomly while driving.

I purchased my Ram 3500 new, in 2018, at Nucar auto dealership in Tilton, New Hampshire. When I reached approximately 24,000 miles, my "Check ABS" and "Check Traction Control" lights activated on my dashboard and the message console. I was using cruise control at the time, which immediately deactivated. This could have caused an accident if I had been slower to react. The warning/failure was intermittent at first, but over the next few days became almost constant. The lights/warning would flash, the warning bell would ring, and then shut off for a minute. Over, and over, and over. I brought the truck to the dealer and they ran a diagnostic. They diagnosed the following: C0020-01 - ABS Pump Motor Control-General Electrical failure INTERNAL HCU OR ABS MODULE FAULT. WILL NEED TO REPLACE HCU AND RETEST The truck only had 24k miles on it, but since it was past the 3-year warranty period, they quoted a cost of almost $1,000 to do the repair, not counting the $155 they charged to run the diag. They also stated that the parts were on backorder, and wouldn't be available for some time. Since then, I have driven the truck as little as possible since it is a safety issue. Based on information in online forums, I know that this is a problem in thousands of 2017-2018 Ram 2500&3500 trucks. My next step is to join one of the several existing class-action lawsuits, create a new class-action suit for New Hampshire, or file an individual suit. Will Ram issue a recall for this?

The Hydraulic control unit has failed. It has been taken to a mechanic and diagnosed. The electronic part has been replaced per my warranty info and mechanic recommendation and it is still failed, meaning the main HCU is the issue. The cruise control will shut off automatically and the ABS and traction control do not work while in fault. While towing a trailer up an on ramp, the HCU went into fault causing the traction control to fail and the pick up lost traction and started sliding sideways...Luckily I was able to get it under control without crashing. This was all due to the HCU intermittent failure, causing the traction control to stop working. While this is faulted, the ABS also does not work.

Purchased this truck specifically to tow 14000 lb fifth wheel camper. Two months ago warning chime and “service electronic brake system, Service antilock brakes and Traction Control” caution lights repeatedly activate. I am concerned about towing in this condition if operating on rain slick roads and winter weather. Also the constant chime is a serious distraction. Truck is currently at the dealership for repair. 25000 on the odometer. Truck is out of warranty. For thousands of miles and almost 2 years, my ABS constantly warns, then resets, then warns that service is required. Dealers across the country scan my truck and find code C0020-01 ABS PUMP MOTOR GENERAL FAILURE. This part has not been available for over 18 months and every dealer has said they have dozens of customers needing the same part/repair. Nationwide forums show this to be an ongoing issue with faulty parts, yet Stellantis has not issued a recall, nor have they provided any sort of remediation. Several have "off the record" suggested pulling the ABS PUMP fuse to provide temporary relief from the constant alarming of a bad part.

I brought it to the dealer at the end of July when the lights had been on long enough for the dealer to plug a unit in to read the code. I believe they stated it needed a control unit/board. I made an appointment to fix it a week later. When I arrived they stated they did not have the part in stock and they would notify me when it came in. Later that day I received a call from the dealer stating that the part would not be available until February 2024 because engineers were working on a fix. I now have to wait at least 8 months for a fix. I have researched online forums and there have been complaints for several years on this problem. There also seems to be a class action suit over this in two states. To say this is a safety hazard is an understatement. At any time I can no longer have ABS/Traction Control. There is no reason for not demanding a recall to correct this dangerous safety issue.

Dealer said I'd have to pay a diagnostic fee, parts/labor, and computer re-program in the thousands. Dealer said because this is a common issue, and my truck was repaired once under warranty, that after the repairs they could file to see if the manufacturer would cover any of it. Even if I buy and replace the parts that have been back ordered, I'd have to pay thousands for the parts and to have the dealer program the parts to the truck. I have not repaired this yet, because I believe the parts are faulty and will need to be replaced every 25k miles. I've read about many people having these same issues with the brakes on these Ram trucks.

Truck gets a service electronic braking check engine light and disables traction control as well as the cruise control. The braking becomes disabled at random times. Taken the unit to the dealership just to be told the part has been backordered for over 2 years and that they cannot sell me the HBU to repair it. In August 22 I replace the hydraulic control unit on this truck to fix the intermittent abs and traction control message and ding on my evic and now in October 23 I am getting the same intermittent messages again. I paid and did the repair back in august myself but now seems to be a delay in getting the parts. I bought the truck in December 2017 so if you average the miles the second HCU only has approximately 8000 miles on it. These parts should last longer than that. The truck has only 47000 total miles on it.

All of the dealerships near me have the part on back order and have for well over 6 months. It’s not very fun to drive around with no reliable ABS and the possibility the brakes may fail. I do not drive my truck basically at all anymore. It is a 2018 with 44000 miles. There is no reason the ABS should have failed. At around 50,000 miles my truck began to turn off cruise control while driving, ding, and the ABS ,as well as, the traction control light came on. It goes on and off repeatedly while driving. This is incredibly distracting and quite possibly dangerous for braking and handling. The local dealership is aware and have stated that even though it is still under warranty, there is no available part to fix it.

On August 18th, 2022, my "Service ABS system" light starting blinking on and off constantly. I took it to the dealer. They replaced the HCU unit, part of the ABS system. It was not a cheap repair. Yesterday, it starting doing it again. I have read several places that this is a known issue and lots of people are having it. Shouldn't there be a recall by RAM for this? I tow a trailer with my truck. I'm sure this is a safety issue.

The ABS/ Traction control is intermittently failing. It is aviliable for inspection. When the light comes on I have no ABS or Traction control which may cause me to lose control under certain circumstances. The dealer has and the manufacturer has confirmed the problem. The dealership was able to reproduce the issue. The component was inspected by the dealership. There are the ABS/ Traction control light that comes on the dash sometimes. I have been told that the part that needs to be replace is backordered indefinitely and the manufacturer has no idea when they will get any new ones. From what reasearch I have done it looks like they need to reengineer the parts to make them work right. Also told that this is not covered by any recalls which I think is wrong as it is a safety issue that they knew about.

THE ABS BRAKING SYSTEM WAS REPAIRED ONCE 3 MONTH'S AGO AND NOW I TOOK IT BACK TO DEALER AGAIN FOR THE ABS BRAKING SYSTEM NEED REPAIR AGAIN WARNING KEEPS GOING OFF BUT DEALER SAID ITS SOMETHING DIFFERENT IN ABS BRAKING SYSTEM. THE TOLD ME NOW THEABS PUMP FAILING.HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT NEEDS REPLACED AND ITS ON BACK ORDERED TILL 2/21/24. I TOW A 32FT., RACE CAR TRAILER AND I NEED THE ABS BRAKES TO WORK. THESE TRUCKS ARE EXPENSIVE TO BUY THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE.

The ABS Brake control module malfunctioned causing several electrical issues. Fortunately the vehicle was able to function. RAM Service center noted a wait time of over 3 months. When I brought the vehicle to another Service center looking to see if the part was available, I was told to make an appointment and they charged me $90 to tell me what I told them. Uggg.

Hydraulic Control Unit controlling the anti-lock brake system failed under warranty. Replaced unit by Dealer. Unit failed again after warranty expired. Now a constant alert stating "service anti - lock brake system" is displayed on the dash. Due to the expense involved I cannot have this fixed. The truck has only 21,000 miles on it. Dealer should repair. No accidents involved but no anti-lock brakes. Truck is a 2018 model.

The brake Brake HCU pump failed at 33,489 miles and was replaced under warranty last year. Now with 45,000 miles I have the same problems occurring and will have to go to the dealer again. The traction control, ABS and cruise control all do not work and the service electronic brakes message flashes on and off. The problem is intermittent. I've read online that the replacement parts are unavailable from the dealer or on a 6-8 month lead time. It seems this is a fairly common failure in the 2018 3500 trucks and Ram needs to find a better fix than a part that lasts 12,000 miles after the original only lasted 33,000 miles.

ABS and traction control lights come on intermittently and a chime sound occurs. When this happens cruise control stops working. Getting a “Service Electronic Braking System” message and “Service Antilock Brake System” message. Had to wait three weeks to get an appointment for dealer to troubleshoot. Dealer said it has code C0020-01 logged. Dealer says the Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) has an internal failure that is shorting out the ABS pump control. Dealer stated that part will not be available until February or March of 2024 if not later for repairs. Dealer verbally said to either park the vehicle until part is available or drive it knowing that the ABS braking system may not work properly in case of emergency stop. Dealer said there is no recall for this problem but they are aware of many vehicles with it. I feel there needs to be an immediate recall issued for this problem as it is endangering the public.

My ABS and Traction control warning lights and Chime continue to come on and off while driving. Replaced the anti brake Hydraulic Brake Controller two years ago and now the same problem. I read that there are quite a few of the same model trucks having the same problem!

My 2018 3500 Dully with 34,000 miles started having an issue with the ABS, Traction Control and Eletronic Brack control systems. While driving the truck on a trip, the Traction Control, and ABS lights started coming on intermittently and the check Eletronic Brack control came on at the same time and it too flashed intermittently. Also, while this is happening, the cruise control does not work. Took the truck to the dealer, parts are not available until February of 2024. Five months from now. They recommend two parts be replaced, Anti-lock brake system, part number 68347098AB and Control Anti-Lock Brake System Part 68143491AB. I'm being told it will cost around $2,000 for the repairs. The 5-year 100,000 drive train is within the warranty period; however, this is not covered by RAM. For such an expensive truck, I find it disturbing that in the event of such failure It was advised to take the truck into the dealer as soon as possible because the truck with an ABS issue is not drivable and the dealer says its ok to drive it even though all the systems lights are flashing intermittently.

Warning light flashes ABS needs service. It intermittently goes on and off. When it does start to flash it shuts off the cruise control. The ECU also comes on/off. In 2020 Driving in the mountains when it was raining having the cruise control shutting off almost caused an accident. Braking in the rain is also dangerous if the ABS goes out. The truck now has 42,000 miles and we need to have it replaced again This makes this truck very dangerous to drive.

My 2018 truck since owning has had 4+ of the ABS Hydraulic Control Units replaced. None of them last more than 1 year, sometimes 2 years before the ABS HCU fails again. Dodge / RAM does not offer a solution of any kind. Other than it's a know issue and parts are back ordered. Considering the part never lasts there must be another issue, Dodge/RAM needs to fix this. I had my ABS module/HCU changed a few years ago, now I am getting the same issues and will need it replaced again. This malfunction also cause cruise control to be inoperable. This time on my dime. After research this has been an ongoing issue with ram trucks since atleast the 2018 model year. Why has a mandatory recall not been called?

At 6000 miles the hydraulic control unit and and ABS module went bad, at 15000 miles the same thing happened again

ABS and traction control warning, flashing and audible alarm sounding. ABS braking system disabled. Loss of cruise control. Dealer confirms that this is a known problem with 2017/18 2500/3500 Ram pickups. Stared at around 31800 miles. Problem is ongoing, and not resolved. Dealer said parts are on nationwide back up. And not covered under warranty. See a California Class Action lawsuit for this problem.

At 26075 miles 9/10/2020, got error saying service electronic braking system. Dealer diagnosis code C0020-1was HCU (hydraulic control unit) failed; replaced unit part number 68143491AA. Problem solved. At 34412 miles 5/31/22, got same error stating to service electronic braking system. Dealer diagnosed code C0020-1, HCU failed. They replaced part number 68143491AA, again problem solved. At 40,125 miles, 8/30/2023 same error message. I will be taking to dealer, but parts are not available until February 2024 or later. When this unit fails, ABS is disabled, as well as trailer braking and cruise control. This creates a serious danger as the truck is capable of towing a load in excess of 17000 lbs. using the same part that appears to have an issue is not the solution.

Only vechicle I have I. Self employed can not just park truck for 8-12 months and continue to make payments, there is no option to sell as someone will not buy with abs issues and traction control in-op. This is a wide know issue on rams fiat Chrysler has done nothing to ensure the safety of its drivers and owners. For them to simply say park it do not drive wait 8-12 months to be fixed is absolutely ridclious. A reca needs to be issued and part failures need to be handled. Quick search on line shows many trucks having same problem and same results at dealership.

ABS/HCU intermittent failure resulting in loss of traction control, ABS function, cruise control. The risk associated to myself and others is the loss of ABS and traction control, in bad weather (rain, snow sleet) conditions the drivability of the vehicle is severely compromised. I was made aware of the open class action suite regarding this flaw and have not left the truck for dealer service. Warning lights include ABS, traction control, and service electronic breaking.

ABS Light and Traction Control Light are both on. Loss of ABS functionality. The code displayed is C0020-01. The dealer has not looked at this vehicle yet but service will be scheduled with them.

ABS error code on truck approximately April 2023. Had tested at Dodge dealership in Marshall where they determined it was the ABS controller that was bad and had to be replaced. They informed me that this would not be available until August of 2023. This would mean that my anti lock braking system would not function properly for several months. I contacted two other Dodge dealerships in East Texas as well as an independent diesel mechanic who confirmed the same thing - this part would not be available until August 2023. I had Marshall dealership to put my name on list with others who had the same issue, and I had to continue driving the vehicle with the ABS system compromised, with the awareness and care knowing that this is a safety concern. August 2023, had not heard back from the dealership so I called and asked about the ABS controller issue. They told me they had been notified by Dodge that this part is not available in August and they had no expected date for it to be manufactured and available for these repairs. I Confirmed with other dealerships and two independent diesel mechanics. It is now mid September and I am having to continue driving with safety compromised due to the bad ABS controller and Dodge not doing anything to address this situation for me or what I understand are several others. No doubt, if they have not already happened, there will be accidents due to the extended time of ABS malfunction on RAM trucks. I am now reaching out to NHTSA as the urging of one of the independent diesel mechanics. I appreciate your time and attention and anything you can do to help Dodge address this widespread safety concern as soon as possible.

Abs and traction control lights are on. Cruise control will not work when lights are on. Lights go on and off with chime very annoying. Brakes will not function properly when lights are on. Contacted dealer no eta on parts. Almost 2 years now. Contacted dealer before warranty was out. Next time I went to ask I got another service rep and he said my warranty is out. This is not good.

Intermittent Anti Lock braking system failure messages. From my understanding this is a very widespread engineering/ components failure. This is a huge safety issue and a recall needs to be issues. RAM was allowed to build trucks for years that had major steering issues, now the brakes don’t work properly. The NHTSA needs to hold them accountable.

I am getting a warning on this dash telling me that I need to "service electronic braking system". When this message comes up I lose my ABS brakes, cruise control and I get a traction control warning light. Sometimes this will stay on for weeks and then go off for a day and start all over again. When the road is wet you have to be careful with the brakes. I went to the local dealer in Bryan, TX and showed him the warning lights and he told me that I had a bad sensor in the truck. The cost could be as high as $1500.00. The dealership told me that they repair on an average (2) two trucks a DAY foy this PROBLEM. I had the truck checked for any codes in the system and the tech told me that I did not have any codes but yet the tech could see both warning lights on my dash. ABS light and Traction control light.

When operating the vehicle the Service ABS/Traction control light starts flashing and cruise control becomes disabled while driving. ABS and traction control becomes disabled. Safety issue! Advised the part will not be available until Feb 2024 and to operate vehicle as is.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? On July 28, 2023, while travelling Northbound on Hwy 287 N, the engine brake automatically engaged without depressing the brake pedal or decelerating. Prior to this, there was no indication of any problem. No messages or warning lights appeared. I notified Karl Klement Dodge in Decatur Texas to inquire about braking problems or recalls affecting this model. I was told that I had no recalls, and they were unaware of any similar issues. On 9/11/23, after travelling approximately six miles, the ABS and traction control yellow warning indicator light illuminated and an audible warning ding initiated. These warning lights came on and off at recurring intervals, on multiple occasions. Eventually, the service ABS system warning initiated on the center control panel. At this point, I had driven no further than 8 miles. I proceeded to an independent service center in Bridgeport, Texas and spoke with a certified mechanic. He did a computerized diagnostic which indicated the HCU/ABS Module system was showing to be defective. The mechanic stated that they have had to replace this item on other vehicles recently. I again notified the Karl Klement Dodge dealership to inquire about my warranty or a recall or any other problems relating to the ABS or other braking system components. I was told that it would not be covered under warranty, and that there were no problems with the braking system on the particular model, nor recalls but that I could, "bring it in if [I] want to." The current mileage on this vehicle is only 24,314 miles as of 9/11/23. Due to the safety necessity of the braking system, it is a severe safety concern. Upon further research, I have found multiple parties with similar problems with the ABS system on this model.

ABS and Traction Control lights intermittently comes on and then will go off after a few minutes and "service electronic braking system" message appears. This may happen 25 times in a 5 mile trip and the next day not do it on a 30 mile trip. DTC C0020-01. Safety issue since ABS not working correctly and parts are very difficult to find. This is an on going problem, not a one time occurrence.

Already had hcu replaced once now its bad again this truck never goes off road the first time was at 9953 miles now the second time 30550 miles these parts are not even available there has to be something done there no excuse for this to happen. The "Service ABS" warning light randomly started coming on in the dashboard display. Sometimes it alerts every few seconds, other times it may not alert for days. When this happens I experience a loss of anti-lock brakes, traction control, and cruise control. This truck is used to pull heavy loads and the random loss of anti-lock brakes is not good. My local dealer says that parts are on on back order for many months. The potential loss of braking is scares me and is a danger to others around me. Yes, the vehicle is available for inspection.

Auto brake anti skid components failing creating unsafe brake operation while towing a 15,000 lb trailer. Dealer states parts won't be available for at least 18 months. This is a hard fault and can't be reset.Dealer states this is a high failure item on these trucks.

The Hydraulic Control Unit Chrysler part number 68143491AA failed and been replaced multiply times on my vehicle. I have the current failed part available for inspection upon request. This causes the Anti-lock braking system and Traction control system to no longer function limiting function under wet or slippery conditions. This puts the driver and others at risk. The problem has been reproduced by my local dealer twice both with the original part and its' replacements. The vehicle/component has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others. There were no Warning lamps/messaged before failure only after. These would be ABS lamp and traction control lamp plus a service ABS warning message.

The service ABS braking system warning flashes on with a chime frequently when driving. This started 3 weeks ago. According to the Ram Forums this is a common problem with 2018 trucks. My truck is a 2018 with 352623 miles on it and according to the Dick Hannah dealership a part that is out of warranty. There is no replacement part since the original inventory was all pulled back from the dealerships to the manufacturer due to the incidences of failure. This information was given to me by the Dick Hannah parts manager. He said a newer more reliable version of the brake module is being built but replacements are not expected for at least 4 months. Ram knows the part is and was defective, i am out of warranty and have a dangerous truck to drive for the next 4 to 5 months then a estimated $1500 repair bill. I want Ram to pay for this and to expedite the replacement parts and the NHTSA to do their job and serve us the consumer instead of the manufacturer. I am seeking legal recourse too. ABS failed during a panic stop causing the vehicle to skid. Received a notice on the dash to “Service Electronic Braking System” followed by the ABS and traction control lights coming on then off a number of times. It is my understanding that the Hydraulic Control Unit has failed, and FCA is aware of this issue. Failure of ABS in a large heavy pickup truck is dangerous, and FCA should issue a recall to repair the affected units.

The code C0020-01 ABS Pump Motor Control - General Electrical Failure popped up. This happened with 53172 miles on the odometer. Looking on the Cummins Forum, this happens often to the 2017 and 2018 Ram 2500 and 3500 pickups.

I purchased my 2018 Ram 3500 new, in July of 2019. Since then, the HCU/ABS Module has failed 3 times. The first occurrence was at 4391 miles, the second was at 24768 miles, and the third, was yesterday at approx. 45000 miles. The "Service ABS System" light goes on and off intermittingly, which shuts down cruise control and other electrical components. The brake pedal at times feels stiff when brakes applied. This repair is close to two thousand dollars. I've read the other complaints while researching this issue. Something needs to be done by RAM to correct this safety, and excessive cost to owner issue.

Anti lock brake service light came on repeatedly and vehicle was taken to South County Ram dealer in St. Louis and they scheduled a service appt in July 2022 and they indicated an antilock module was required and did not have part due to manufacturer and did not know when part would be available. The vehicle again was taken to same dealer on July 10, 2023, and same story. This was reported to Chrysler Complaint line that same day and no response from manufacturer. How can an important safety part not be available? How can they continue to produce vehicles and not have replacement safety parts?

When driving at Interstate speed of 65 MPH pulling my goose neck horse trailer the instrument panel started dinging and indicated "Service Electronic Brake System", "Service Antilock Brake System" and the Cruise Control stopped working. I slowed and continued home with warring alternation with "dings" every few seconds. I took vehicle to local Dodge Dealer (Blaise Alexander Lewisburg PA) on 08/10/23 who checked the truck and said I needed the HCU replaced. (Code: 0020-01) I had to wait a few days to get the part. Truck was returned to me on 08/15.23. Invoice Number CHCS26809. Total Cost: $843.75

C/S ABS Light on. General Electrical Failure of ABS Module, Hydraulic Control Module resulting in unsafe braking. Un useable traction and cruise control. This has been confirmed by Dealer with no replacement parts. An unsafe braking system experienced in wet conditions with sliding and skidding accrued. Indicator lights accrued intermittently at apr06252023ox 34000 miles. Now on constantly at 60000 mile beginning at 55980 miles.

I have a 2018 Dodge 3500 with 9800 miles on it.. The ABS light has come on reflecting a braking and control problem. This also shuts down the safety system within the brakes, shuts down the 4 wheel drive and cruise controls also. It is my understanding from the dealership, there is a problem with the parts within this system, and they can not get any parts released to them for repair. They also don't want to use the same parts, knowing they will only fail again. Which would fall back on them, as a repair faciality. Why hasn't the NHTSA ordered a recall on these vehicles. There are Law Suites also addressing the ABS failure and many complain on this safety failure. I see there is a recall regarding tailgates issue on some of the dodge products. Clearly the braking systems must a higher priority. We should not be required to pay for these repairs. I paid $ 70,000.00 plus for my truck!!! Now they cost in the mid $ 80 K I want feed back from the NHTSA regarding there actions, on the Dodge ABS failure. ABS and hydraulic module going bad. While driving down the road truck with say service ABS System and hydraulic brakes. Took truck to repair shop to have wheel speed sensors checked by a scanning machine and informed me that the ABS and hydraulic module is going bad.

My concern is I pull multiple heavy trailers as part of our business operations and having the ABS Warning light on eliminates the trailer brake function of the truck which could cause an accident in event of the need of heavy braking without functional trailer brakes. The Automatic Braking System (ABS) and Traction Control lights come on intermittently. They flash and and sound at random. A RAM dealer stated the lights must be on for them to get a proper code to determine the problem. This is an extreme safety problem that could occur at anytime ABS and traction control may be needed.

My Hydraulic Control Unit for my ABS has failed this is the second time in 24 months it has failed and needing service. The part is on backorder and it seems to be a major known issue by the manufacturer with repairs costing near 2k dollars to the consumer because Ram does not want to cover it under warranty.

Eight months ago I got a "Service Electronic Braking System" warning in the Instrument Cluster. After a brief Google search it was evident that this was a common issue on these RAM trucks. After some diagnostics I determined the ABS Module and/or the HCU to be faulty. After 3 months of calling Ram dealerships in nearly every state I was finally able to locate a new ABS Module, but the HCU has been on backorder country wide for over a year now. I was recently advised by a RAM dealer that the sale of new HCU has been halted until Feb 2024 while RAM performs an internal investigation into the cause of the faulty units. The ABS, Cruise Control and Traction Control features are disabled while this fault remains. While the main vehicle brakes still function properly, the lack of ABS and Traction Control can pose a risk while driving in lower friction environments (i.e. snow, ice, rain, etc), or while hauling a trailer. RAM is not covering these parts under warranty nor is there has any type of safety recall been issued by RAM. The consumers are having to come out of pocket for these repairs (when the parts are available).

While driving in heavy rain a car in front of me slammed on their brakes, in response I applied mine. Instead of the ABS engaging, the rear wheels locked up and started to slide, which caused the truck to start to slide sideways on the rain slick road. Fortunately, I had maintained sufficent distance between myself and the car in front of me and there was no accident. Also fortunate was the fact no other cars were around me when the vehicle started to skid. Once I got stopped I noticed the ABS and Traction Control lights were now illuminated on the dashboard. Later that day I had the codes downloaded and received a C0020 code. Which indicated an issue with the HCU and ABS. After reviewing this issue online, I discovered that this is a know issue to FCA and the NHTSA and that many complaints have been reported concerning this issues, including a document from FCA (Star Online Publication: Case #: S2005000004) which is also on the NHTSA own website. There is no system on a vehicle more important than the braking system! Knowing the number of occurrences of this issue and possible severity of injury or even death that could result from this issue, why has the NHTSA not issued a recall for the vehicles? The NHTSA knows of this issue as evidenced by the STAR publications (now at revision C) posted on your website! Please do what your agency was chartered to do, hold the manufacturer of these vehicles accountable for fixing an obvious safety issue! ABS and Traction control lights on/off intermitantly. ABS Code C0020-01 ABS pump motor general electrical failure. See you recently posted some information regarding 2017-18 Ram 2500 -3500 trucks. Lots of complaints on Ram Truck forums. Lots of problems with HCU and ABS Contollers. SHOULD BE A RECALL. No braking problems...(yet)

ABS System flashes on and off that it needs to be serviced, also cruis control doesn’t work. Took it to dealer to get it diagnosed. Dealer says the HCU needs to be replaced and the ABS pump needs to be replaced and also that cause the brakes and rotors to wear out and they need to be replaced too.

ABS/Electrical Break Control fault code C002001, a known issue with the 2018 Ram 3500, occurred at 26,000 miles rendering cruise control, traction control, and trailer brake controller inoperable. Repair parts are unavailable currently and is not covered under warranty due to age of vehicle.

Ram 3500 Larime Crew Cab Deisel with 47,800 miles. We were driving home from our seasonal campsite, (about a 2 hour trip on highway) and it began to rain (about 15 minutes into the trip) it continued to rain very hard at times the whole trip home. Around 30 minutes into our trip the ABS warning light, Check Engine light, & Traction Control light came on. I pulled to the shoulder of the road and waited for a lull in the rain. I then opened the hood and inspected to see if something was shorting out electrically. I couldn't see or smell anything, so we decided to continue on our way. We exited the highway and took non-highway route home. I did not notice any issues while braking or driving that concerned me enough to have it towed. I pulled the truck into the garage (under our house) and unloaded our belongings from the weekend. I went down to the garage about 2 hours later (the key fob was upstairs) when I walked behind the truck, the cargo light and interior lights came on. This didn't make sense to me because the key fob was not anywhere near the truck. It was still raining so I decided to disconnect the batteries (2 batteries on the Cummins) rather than put the truck outside in the rain. Didn't want to take the chance of burning my house down. This was the first time this has happened (7-16-2023) I research to see if anyone else had similar issues and found a considerable number of owners with this similar complaint. The vehicle has not been taken to the dealer as of this writing. Having to pull to the side of the highway during heavy rain, put my family and others at risk. Given the number of complaints that I was able to read, I would say these issues should warrant a recall.

ABS and traction control become inoperable. Intermittent warning on dashboard with alarm.

ABS and traction control warning lights were illuminated. The OBD reader says ABS pump motor control failure General electrical failure Code: C0020-01. The vehicle has not been repaired. . The approximate failure mileage was 45,000.

Truck has only 65, 000 miles on it, I’m the second buyer, has never haul anything or hitch a trailer, I’m having this electrical brake system failure ABS, this vehicle is to expensive and new to have early issues on it. ABS Motor Control- General Electric failure. I seem other similar problems reported with same year and same problems.

Repeated failure of the ABS system. Warning lights multiple times per drive. Dealer states replace HCU. Parts unavailable for over 8 months now. Dealer states known problem. Cost estimate over $1100, not covered even though known problem.

Abs/hcu faulty, brake warning light, message, and alarm will sound on and off while driving. I have tried to buy the parts and they are not available through dodge with no estimated availability. This has been going on for a year.

The ABS pump and module has failed for the 4th time. It had been repaired at the following intervals: 12 Sep 2019 - 5,374 miles; 11 Mar 2021 - 13,136 miles; 19 Aug 2022 - 20,607 miles and now 6 July 2023 at 28,944 miles, the longest it's ever made it. What's going on? It is, change the oil and replace the modules while you're at it? I never had any brake issues on any vehicle I've owned until this one. What's being done to fix this? It is unsafe, as when this failure occurs, besides having no ABS and no cruise control, I lose the trailer brakes. Having a heavy load and losing the trailer brakes should be a concern for everyone on the road. Please help.

Vehicle is presently throw an error for ABS HCU failures. There is not presently a recall but it is effecting all 2017-2018 RAM 2500-3500s. My has occurred and dealer confirmed but parts are not available for fixing. Vehicle is not safe to perform daily functions it was purchased for such as towing.

I recently purchased this 2018 Ram Dually for work on our farm. After 1 trip all the ABS/traction control/4wd and cruise control wont work. It seems that this a safety issue that ram will not address. I would like to file a complaint that if I had known about these issues, I would not have purchased this truck. It is unsafe driving and with no ABS and cruise control or traction control. I depend on the 4wd in our farming business and not having this has caused me lost income because I simply could not get the job done and had to give the job away to others.

I had a new Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) replaced with the new style that Ram expedited for me. This new unit gave me the ABS / TC Lights on my dash. Took it back to "2" different garages, they both confirmed that the pump was not being activated. Which means the 2nd HCU was a bad part! Ram / Fiat is fully aware of this problem! This needs to turn into a Class Action lawsuit! They are still putting out new RAM Truck for dealers, and they are not supporting their older Trucks! Very frustrating!!!!

ABS light is on and while driving a message appears on dash which indicates "service electronic brake system." It comes on and stays a few seconds and goes off and then comes back on. Mechanic has diagnosed and found code C0020-01 which indicates ABS pump motor control general electrical failure. This truck only has 16,000 miles on it.

Failure of the ABS Control Module. Warnings displayed on Dash "Service Electronic Braking System" "Service Traction Control." and ABS/Traction Control warning lights light intermittently While Driving. This happened the First time around 35,000 miles on a cross country highway trip, and has come back again for the last two weeks. around 76,000mi. Slight Research Has shown me this is a very common problem on 2017-2018 RAM 2500,- 5500 trucks.

On my 2018 RAM 3500 beginning on Memorial Day 2023, the instrument cluster began flashing with a loud door type chime. The cluster began cycling through messages including Service Electronic Braking System, ABS Failure, and illuminating alarms. Upon testing with a code reader I was presented with the following codes: C0020-01 ABS Pump Motor Control - General Electrical Failure and U0402-00 Implausible Data Received from TCM. Upon internet investigation, I discovered this is not an uncommon problem with several hundred reports available on ramforumz.com and other sites. According to several complainants, the repair for this will cost in excess of $2000 with one complainant stating this has had to be repaired twice as the replacement components are also faulty. This needs to be investigated and frankly needs to be a national recall on these vehicles, it is a lot more dangerous than a tailgate lock issue. I am concerned with the cost, but more concerned that replacing the noted components may not solve the issue in the long term resulting in additional costly repairs.

I purchased this vehicle new off the lot with only 11 miles. At approximately 10,000 miles the ABS system started to malfunction intermittently. System checks via OBDII scan tool indicated a hydraulic control unit failure. This part is impossible to obtain as all dealerships contacted in a 100 mi radius report a backorder with prices for repair inflated due to demand. Limited research has yielded mass complaints about this problem but no action on the part of RAM. This is my only vehicle and just like many others I cannot just park it or sell a defective vehicle without a substantial financial loss that I cannot afford. The HCU failure has caused my brakes to lock up when braking for an emergency stop. Without intervention from the NHTSA and other government agencies, I fear there will be several unnecessary injuries or deaths due to this known and documented common failure.

In July 2022 our 2018 RAM 3500 Diesel 4 by 4 truck started having an intermittent alert. Service electronic brake system, ABS, traction control. Cruise control is disabled during this alert. May 2023 the vehicle was taken to local dealer for a diagnostic. They revealed no codes were revealed answer was to replace the ITBM at a cost of 921.00. And the diagnostic charge was 233.00. I tried to contact the dealer for further questions with no cooperation. I started investigating and purchased a code reader at my own cost. The code that showed was C0020-01 ABS Pump Motor Control-Electrical Failure. Much different than the ITBM I was told. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles put out a Case Number: S2005000004 Release Date 04/28/2020 Symptom/Vehicle Issue: C0020-01-ABS PUMP MOTOR CONTROL- GENERAL ELECTRICAL FAILURE Discussion: Basically says to replace HCU first and then ECU if code still active. So, the dealer is aware of the issue and outright lied to me. There is also an active Class Action Lawsuit for this very issue In California Plantiff James Neu. The fact that my vehicle is not in a safe working condition with this faulty part. The fact that the Dealer is lying about which part is defective and would have installed a different part than what they said the problem is. It is very disturbing that an automotive company is treating the safety of their customers so carelessly. The Fact that this is a common and widespread issue and nothing is being done to rectify, appalling. Thousands of vehicles on the road, no parts available. Action needs to be taken. Lives will be lost, severe injury, it can happen to innocent people. Please do something

2018 Dodge 3500 ABS light came on and disabled cruise control functions. Took to dealer and another 3rd party, both said replacement of ABS module was only solution to fix. Fairly expensive fix. It first happened around 60,000 miles sometime in 2021 and now at 80,000 miles it no longer functions. No recall appears to exist but it is a problem.

Intermittent warning lights for ABS and traction control. Message to "Service Electeonic Brake System". Data scan indicated ABS pump failure. Research shows this is a known issue. Dealer can't get parts to repair.

The ABS pump set a code c0020-01 general electric failure. Upon Inspection by a Mopar technician it was found that the pump needs to replaced. Was advised not to drive the vehicle for it was not safe because of the pump failure the abs feature of the brake system might fail. There is only 15000 miles on the vehicle.

ABS and traction control warning lights come on sporadically.

ABS faulty. No solution from dealer to correct so chime continuously, lights on dash and ABS not functioning. Part on back order with no foreseeable stock date and new parts are not correcting problem anyway, according to dealer. Here are additional notes from web: 2018 Ram 2500 ABS/HCU problem. Code C0020-01. 10/2022 Class action law suit filed in Texas for 2017-2018 Ram 2500/3500. 12/2022 NHTSA open investigation into the 2017-2018 Ram 2500/3500 trucks. 4/28/2020 FCA issues “Diagnostics for this DTC are currently under review. When working on a vehicle with an active C0020-01 and testing leads to replacement of both the HCU and ABS Module, order and replace the HCU first. Do not order or replace the ECU. Follow Service Information to replace and bleed the HCU. Then perform a test drive. If the DTC C0020-01 did not reset- repair is complete. If the C0020-01 did return active, replace the ECU and return the parts to FCA.” However nobody at my dealer has heard of break issues on the 2018 Ram 2500. Common enough of a problem FCA sent out communication with the dealers on how to fix this issue.

"Service ABS"; ABS & Traction Control lights & chimes come on. This is random, sometimes for hours at a time and sometimes for days without. I've researched and have found this is very common with 2016-2018 Ram trucks.

Hydraulic Control Unit and ABS Module need to be replaced for the 2nd time.

ABS braking keeps flashing and brakes are intermittent. The module was replaced by Ford dealer a while back. Truck only has 118k miles on it but continues to be a problems. I have not contacted dealer yet due to the time they take to do anything.

Service ABS, traction control, ESP, ABS lights come on. Vehicle constantly beeps. RAM dealer says it needs a new HCU/ABS module (on national backorder) and/or ABS pump. Second time this has happened. Vehicle now at 77k miles and it happened all over again. If this is happening regularly then something must be defective with the parts they are putting on the truck.

Loss of brake performance NHTSA action no. PE22012. Intermittent random dash warning “service electronic braking system and ABS”. Loss of cruise control and 4x4 functionality when lit as well as trailer brake control. Started Nov 2022 and currently continues. Will go weeks without problems and then problem will restart. Many issues listed on Internet forums regarding same. This should be a recall before someone towing a large trailer (as these trucks were designed) loses brake functionality due to a known problem and causes severe injury and/or death. Vehicle currently has approx. 45,000 miles. Multiple forum responses on internet have had parts replaced multiple times in similar mileage

ABS lights come on with the traction control light. It also beeps each time you hit the brakes when lit. It has affected my cruise control as well. Sometimes the brake will skip when you hit a bump while braking. I have had the ABS Pump and Module replaced by a dealer on September 20, 2021. It is now doing the same thing and I had an independent repair shop inspect the truck and they found the ABS pump and module defective again. It has only been a little over a year and a half and only about 15000 miles. Dealers and the independent shop both say there are no replacement parts available at this time and it has been a big problem for Ram. I don't feel safe pulling my 41 foot fifth wheel let alone the truck itself if it malfunctions while braking. I am available for questions or inspection if needed.

Both my ABS module and HCU are out. The parts cannot even be ordered till late August 2023, my truck only as 17K miles on it. This is very much a safety issue, both of the units control the ABS system and the traction control.

Ram truck was taken to dealer December of 2022 with 7,000 miles due to ABS lights on dash. The dealer Larson Dodge ordered a new part and said they would not be able to complete it until March and to "drive it as it is". The vehicle doesn't have functioning anti lock brakes etc. Now they have told me it will likely be August due to Chrysler being the problem. This is obvious far too long and now I'm out of options.

This is the second time my ABS electronic braking module has failed in this truck. I hope I'm not one of the only owners to complain. I've read hundreds of complaints. This is May first and it's on backorder til August. It's not safe towing anything with the ABS inop.

While driving at any speed the abs and traction control lights start flashing and a chime goes constantly. also when this happens it causes the cruise control to disengage without any warning. Also leaving you without abs brakes. I am on my 3rd abs module and 2nd hydraulic control unit and needing a 3rd hydraulic control unit for this vehicle with less than 62,000 miles the first one went out around 16,000 miles and the second at 37,000 miles. This is also my second truck from this manufacturer to do the exact same thing that happened at 30,000 miles and had another one in the family that did it at 7,000 miles. As i research online I find that this a common occurrence and nothing has been done to resolve the issue other than just replacing the parts with new and wait for it to happen again. I am in need of a new hydraulic control unit and am being told that they are on some kind of hold until the earliest date of August and just to drive the truck with non-working safety equipment.

ABS and Traction control lights have been on/off for 60,000kms approximately, have had it to the dealer approx 8 times for this issue, still unresolved. Traction control acts extremely odd at times and break pedal feels "soft" at times. Lights on dash come and go intermittently and so does the "soft" break pedal feeling. Warranty is now up and dealer continues to want to replace random parts @ my expense.

The HCU and ABS module for 2018 and 2017 model years of the ram 3500 and 2500 are a known issue that should be recalled. There's some type of issue where the ABS and the traction control lights will turn on affecting the safety of the vehicle. Many people have the issue if you do a quick search on any RAM forum. From my understanding there was a design change on the replacement part. The easiest and probably most common fix is to remove the fuse for the ABS.

September-October 2022 --The Anti-Braking System module has quit working. (ABS). Requested replacement part from Dealership in October 2022. Dealership advises Mopar cancelled parts request to them. I have no anti braking working on vehicle. Dealership advises me to contact Mopar directly for help. I advised them that wasn't my job it was theirs' .

The service electronic brake light freq comes on. Dealer said it brake "module" needed changing and did. they also charged me $800 for it. Vehicle is still making the claim that the elctronic braking system still needs servicing almost imediately after repair.

ABS and HCU Warning lights come on and off. Looking around the internet this is a huge Problem. Took it to a local Ram dealer today and was told its a $1600.00 out of pocket cost seeing the truck is just out of warranty (of course) with 37,000 miles on it. Driving with the cruise control on it throws the warning lights on and off and cruise stops working. It seems the brakes are weak too. The dealer also informed us today they could not even get the parts to fix the problem until at least August! We also had to pile another $1500.00 in it a few months ago because the 4wd did not work either.

abs trac control going crazy dealer repaired under warranty about 15k drove approx 2k and same issue no longer under warranty tried to buy parts none available. truck doesn't start correctly when the lights are on and when driving there is a dinging as lights flash on and off.

Related to investigation PE 22-012, abs hyd control module failed truck only has 18,000 miles.

The ABS pump motor was replaced on 10/22/20 at 28,095 covered by warranty. The ABS/ ANTI SKID warning lights came back on at around 58,000 miles. The vehicle was taken to Firkins CDJR in Bradenton, FL for diagnoses confirmation and repair on 04/11/23. I was advised the ABS hydrolic control unit, part # 68143491-AA, needed to be replaced but was unavailable anywhere and it was not going to be available in the foreseeable future. Advised to call customer care who advised me to try a different dealership. I discovered that a replacement control unit, part # 68143491AB, is apparently available at Mopar parts for approximately $350. At this time I don't understand why a CDJR dealership says a part is unavailable that appears to be available on the internet. I pull a 5th wheel and at this time I apparently can't get the ABS system repaired in my 2018 RAM drw diesel with 59,000 miles on it. There was no incident or accident due to ABS system failure. Although the vehicle runs normal I consider this to be a potential safety risk.

The EVIC display showed Service Antilock Braking System and alternated to Service Electronic Brake System. It would constantly bing and display the ABS light and the Traction Control light. Unit failure of antilock braking system and traction control while driving. Problem is intermittent. Ram is aware of issue, but will not honor as warranty. Parts are BQ for months. Problem apprears to be wide spread.

I have two warning messages appearing on my dash. Service Electronic Braking System and Service ABS System. Took it to my dealership Michiana Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram FIAT in Mishawaka Indiana. I was informed that it needed an HCU (hydraulic control unit) and that the part was unavailable because of engineering review until at least August 2023. The work order was closed and i was sent on my way and told to check back at a later date for availability. After a little reading i found that this issue is under investigation and i wanted add my truck to your list of reports.

My vehicle has under 18,000 miles. Driving down the road, the Service Antilock Brake System error light came on and also the Service Electronic Brake System light - they both started coming on and the bell to the light rang. It did this for the next 6 hours of driving (we were on a long trip) - I did research, and it appears to me, this is an ongoing issue with the 2018 RAM 3500 and people have been replacing parts and it does not go away. The next time I drove it, I had nothing going off. The next time I drove it, a few miles in, it started again. I took it to a RAM dealer, they had nothing on the code reader. Based on all the research I have done on line, it appears that this should be a recall item. I wanted to make you aware. We aren't what the exact fix is (without just randomly replacing parts) and we are not sure if the vehicle is safe to drive.

The ABS and traction control lights came on. The code reader reads C0020-01 Hydraulic contrl unit/ ABS Called several Ram dealers, they said this has been a problem with the Hydraulic control unit and should be a factory recall. I'm looking into having it repaired and it looks like the dealers are the only one that can clear the codeonce repaired and are the only ones who can bleed the brakes after the repair.

ABS and traction control lights flash and ding on and off. Trouble shot it at dealership and wires were repaired hoping that would take care of it…. Nope, lights and dinging are back on. I tow a large gooseneck horse trailer up and down steep hills with sharp curves, across many state lines. We have the truck full of young children ready to show their horses - hence we have the crew cab. I’ll be towing within the month. I figure it must not be a safety issue - Parts are on back order until August??? We only have 40,000 miles on the truck. I can do without cruise control, but would like a safe braking vehicle - glad my husband got a stick shift to help control speed.

Rapid intermittent ABS warning light due to a diagnosed faulty ABS module. Module has been replace previously and now experienced second failure. Ram has no replacement parts available and now I am forced to drive with inoperable anti-lock brake system and a continuous warning chime.

FOR THE LAST 10000 MILES OF THE TOTAL 53K ON THE TRUCK, THE ABS AND ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL LIGHTS TURN ON INTERMITTENTLY AND THE WARNING CHIME SOUNDS. THIS SOMETIMES CONTINUES FOR 1 MILE, SOMETIMES FOR 20 MILES. SOMETIMES IT WILL NOT HAPPEN FOR 50 MILES. IT APPEARS TO HAPPEN MOSTLY ON ROUGH HIGHWAYS OR CITY ROADS. HAPPENS AT 3 MPH AND AT 75 MPH. WITH ABS AND ESC DISCONNECTED IT IS EXTREMELY HAZARDOUS TOWING MY NORMAL 16000 LB TRAILER, ESPECIALLY ON WET OR SNOWY ROADS. I HAVE NO OTHER VEHICLE. IF ABS IS REQUIRED ON US HIGHWAY VEHICLES FOR SAFETY REASONS, HOW CAN THIS NOT BE A SAFETY ISSUE? IF 2019-2022 RAM 3500 TRUCKS ARE UNDER A RECALL FOR THIS SAME ISSUE, WHY IS 2018 NOT? RAWLEY CDJR IN SIERRA VISTA AZ HAS VERIFIED THE ISSUE AND RECOMMENDED REPLACING THE HCU AND ABS MODULE, BUT IS NOT ABLE TO GET THE PARTS. THEY SAY POSSIBLY IN AUGUST. THEY HAVE OFFERED TO REFUND MY PAYMENT FOR THE PARTS THEY ORDERED AND TO DISABLE THE TRULY MADDENING CONSTANT WARNING CHIME TO SAVE MY SANITY. THEN MY TRUCK WILL NOT HAVE ABS OR ESC OR CRUISE CONTROL AT ANY TIME. IS THAT SAFE? THIS SAME ISSUE IS WELL DOCUMENTED AT NHTSA BY MANY OWNERS. IT APPEARS TO BE TIME TO START COMPLAINING TO OUR CONGRESSIONAL REPS.

The ABS system activates intermittently, causing random braking or unable to break. Took to the RAM dealership to be told the ABS hydraulic control unit 68143491AB needs to be replaced but it is on back order until August.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned? Intermittent failure of the electronic braking system. Audible Warning tone and indication ‘Service Electronic Braking System’ followed by ‘Service Antilock Braking System’ experienced intermittently. The multiple warnings automatically disabled the antilock brakes, stability control, and cruise control as well as producing annoying audible tone. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? I pull a Travel trailer loaded with our life's possessions and obviously my immediate family is with me. I cant trust or rely on my breaking system to stop my vehicle and trailer, Its a complete hazard to drive the vehicle on the road. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? I dropped my truck off today for a diagnostic to check the ABS issue and the dealer wants to charge me $199.00 + tax to verify this WELL KNOWN issue. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Not at this time 3/20/23 Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? There were no prior warning to the ABS failure, it simply started "dinging" and throwing the ABS failure warning on the IDC.

UNKNOWN - The ABS brake system warning light blinks on and off repeatedly. Then the warning will not occur for several days, but then starts blinking again. When this happens, the cruise control is abruptly disengaged. The code for this event is C0020-01(1/1)Active ABS Pump Motor Control-General Electrical Failure. I captured this with my own code reader as the event was occurring. When this event is occurring, the code clears itself after the warning light goes off and is not retained in the system for the dealer to see. The problem is chronic. It is the same problem that involved the NHTSA for the 2019-2022 Ram 2500/3500 trucks. I have also read that there had been a class lawsuit. I simply want Ram to repair and correct this issue

The ABS light is on and it has a code But dealer cant get the HCU part to fix it this is a common problem as i have researched this in the internet. I have had part on order for 11 months now. With the abs light on the cruise control and the trailer breaks will not work. The light comes on several times a day so working this truck is not possible. So i have a truck with 70,000 miles that i cant use but have to pay for. I see nothing for a recall and what good would it be when you cant get parts?????

Service Anti-lock brake and Service electronic braking errors come up on screen at random, sometimes the lights will stay one and cruise control is disabled. While braking they seem to shudder. Not safe for a Heavy duty truck that is able to tow 15k lbs.

Electronic Braking System and Antilock Braking System is defective, similar to being described in FCA Case Number S2005000004. This issue also effects the Speed Control System

ABS failure caused cruise control to disengage at 75 mph with another car close behind that almost rear ended m vehicle. Also, ABS failure cases skidding in wet road conditions resulting to near contact with highway barrier.

Experienced a failure of the ABS Control Module and Electronic Traction Control during a light snow storm in September of 2022. Dash warning lights come on and go off intermittently. When warning lights come on and cruise control is being used, cruise control is deactivated. Dealership confirmed ABS CPU failure on 11/17/2022. Still waiting on replacement parts and are projected to be in around 4/18/2023. Warning lights continue to come on and go off intermittently. Never know how long cruise control will work before deactivated by warning lights for ABS service light and Electronic Traction Control coming back on.

ABS & traction control lights go off and on, dealer wants $2600 to replace HCU and rotors. RAM forum has lots of complaints about this. Dodge knows it’s a problem and will not address it. Dealers can then take advantage of customers.

Online posts also verify that many other RAM owners are experiencing the same problem with their trucks. This most certainly needs to have a recall on it. Very dangerous. Manufacturer has great liability and litigation exposure if they do not act on this and accidents happen. They have been warned.

My truck is a 2018 Ram 3500 with only 12,500 miles on it, and it is not driven in the winter. Recently it has been has intermittent activation of the ABS and traction lights. It has been on consistent for over a month now. I code scan showed C0020-01 ABS module general electrical failure. I search online and talking with the dealership revealed this is a fairly common issue on 2017 and 2018 trucks and the fix with either the HCU, ABS module or both. I see NHTSA has opened and investigation into the matter so I am just reporting mine as additional truck with issues. It has not been repaired yet. Thanks.

While reviewing NHTSA's website I noticed PE22-012 concerning Loss of Brake Performance on 2017-2018 Ram 2500 and 3500 trucks. My 2018 Ram 3500 recently started giving me an ABS, traction control and/or "Service Electronic Braking System" warnings. I first noticed the ABS light shortly after I most recently rotating the tires. The tires were rotated for the 3rd time on 14 Dec 2022 with 44,158 miles on the truck. I rotate all 5 tires (spare included in the rotation). I didn't think much of it at first as I was driving in PA on snow covered dirt roads the first time the ABS light came on. After that it became more frequent with the traction control light typically also illuminating. And now more recently a message on the dash information center appears after the lights come on. The lights don't always go out after a key cycle but will often turn off in the middle of a trip. I have not taken the truck to be inspected. Nor have I noticed a degradation of braking ability. I also have never had to brake hard enough to activate the ABS on this truck, nor have I tried it just to see.

44,000 MILES, 2018 RAM 3500 DUALLY 4WD ABS Traction control unit failure and this disables traction control and cruise control. No safety braking is working and there are no solutions from RAM dealers. All they want to do is swap parts until they can find a solution and that's is if they can even get parts. If ABS is a mandatory government requirement on USA roads, why is RAM allowed to sell these trucks? There needs to be an investigation of fraud and the public being put at risk of death on our highways.

Constant ABS issues, most recently HCU has been diagnosed.

The hydraulic control unit is repeatedly having problems. 09-01-2020- Inspect Brake System. Serviced at Carlock Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in Tupelo, MS at 19,056 miles. No parts replaced that I can recall, but the warning light and dinging stopped. The warning that was emailed to me included this information- Your vehicle's ABS Warning Light recently indicated the Antilock portion of the braking system is not functioning. If the ABS Warning Light remains on or turns on while driving, the conventional brake system will continue to operate normally unless the Brake Warning Light is on. Have your vehicle serviced at your dealership immediately. This was at 18,302 miles. 1/13/23- It sent a report with the same issue again. The mileage at this time was 45,260. The light and warning had been going on and off since at least October every time I hit a bump in the road. I tried obtaining a replacement hydraulic control unit, but it was backordered. I have another vehicle to use so I only used this one when I absolutely have to. I have read on forums that this problem is widespread and I truly believe something needs done about it. Replacing a hydraulic control unit every 30,000 miles or so at the expense of $1200 plus dollars each time is not economically feasible. The first time it was checked, the truck was under warranty. I do believe mine is extremely low miles for it's age and should not be having this issue repeatedly. 2019-2022 Have a recall, however my 2018 is having the exact same problems.

ABS and traction control lights activate and error message states to service electronic braking system. No ABS functions as a result. Dealership diagnosed problem as the ABS HCU(hydraulic control unit). Issue can not be corrected due to unavailability of parts. This is a safety issue that should be recalled as it is a known problem by the manufacturer.

ABS and Traction Control lights stay on due to the HCU (Hydraulic Control Module) failure, a known problem reported from the garage. I've been waiting for a replacement part for 6 months. I was told to check back in the middle of March 2023.

While driving on a paved 4-lane road near Mount Rushmore National Memorial in dry conditions, the dash warning system began intermittently flashing "Service Electronic Braking System". The orange ABS and traction control lights also began flashing. The foregoing visual warnings were accompanied by an intermittently ringing audio warning. Retrieval of error codes from the ABS control system with a INNOVA 5610 scan tool showed: DTC CODE C-0020-01 - ABS PUMP MOTOR CONTROL - GENERAL ELECTRICAL FAILURE. This code relates to failure of the ABS Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) and indicates that repair requires replacing the failed HCU with part 68143491AB (replaces part 68143491AA HCU). (SEE Fiat-Chrysler Automobiles STAR Online Publication case number S2005000004. This STAR Online publication (released on 4/28/22020) further states that if replacing the HCU does not solve the failure, the ABS control module may require replacing as well.)

ABS and Traction Warning lights illuminate, and go out, repeatedly. Dealership diagnosis indicates that the ABS Hydraulic Control Unit needs to be replaced. ABS is not functioning. Initial estimate for repair was two months, but has been updated to four months as of today (January 27, 2023).

Abs hydrolic module out again for second time ealerships has no parts tells me not safe to drive. Told me they have 12 vehicles with same issue waiting for parts???? This needs to be a recall. These trucks cost to much h for ongoing issues over same parts.

Intermittent loss of breaking performance. Constant on off error saying service ABS and service electronic brake controller. This also effects traction control. This goes on and off several times per minute. When the warning comes on, it also disengages the cruise control if set. I carried it to the dealer, and they ran a scan, told me it was the hydraulic control unit (HCU) and the anti-lock braking system (ABS) module. They said the part was on backorder, so I guess I am stuck with driving a vehicle that is unsafe, as it has ABS and traction control issues, and no part in stock to fix it. This is wonderful news for such an expensive and robust vehicle. Nice to know that a very heavy truck pulling a trailer with a load on it no longer has working safety features for the brakes and traction control. There seriously needs to be a recall on this issue as safety is at the heart of the problem, and these trucks still have to work daily as they were designed to do. It appears there may be a recent class action lawsuit on point in the state of Texas only. It would be a much better solution if a recall was initiated heading off multiple state class action lawsuits that do not fix the problem but simply make the attorney's rich. These issues need fixed, not just a small check for compensation to the truck owner who will then likely never fix it. I feel time is of the essence.

It seems to be a very well known issue with the antilock brake control module and it affects the traction control, cruise control, and disables the trailer braking system which is extremely important, I tried to make an appointment with my local dealer and they knew exactly what I was concerned with and I was told that the part is back ordered and may take a month or two to get the part needed to make the repair. This should most definitely be a safety recall, I have several different trailers that I pull that if I had not known of the trailer braking issue with the module not working correctly it would have been a nightmare in certain circumstances

"Service Electronic Braking System" intermittently flashes in the dashboard, along with the orange ABS and traction control lights. Seems to happen more on bumpy roads, goes away on smoother roads, then randomly comes back. Over the span of a few weeks, the frequency of the error message has increased, and now the error lights stay on almost all the time. 47,500 miles and purchased new 3 years ago. Intermittent warnings to service ABS system and electronic Braking System. I have had this checked by an independent mechanic and all sensors checked good. He was told by the local dealer that the ABS module is on backorder with no estimate of availability. Truck is almost due for annual inspection and registration and I do not know of it will pass the inspection.

The hydraulic control unit has indicated through the dash a warning light telling the truck needs service. The service needed indicator is intermittent and is a common issue with this year truck. Ram has a technical bulletin regarding this issue indicating how to exact repairs. This issue seems to have impacted enough truck owners to cause a national backorder shortage of the hydraulic control unit and module. Repairs through a dealership range from $1000 - $1700, however, cannot be initiated due to the national shortage of the parts.

Dealer quoted $1700 for repairs and one part is on back-order indefinitely.

ABS light and service electronic braking system intermittently came on. By that happening it sounds like it disable those systems making the truck at risk when emergently braking. Took the truck to Ram dealership on 11-10-2022. Dealership stated the hydraulic control unit and the abs module need to be replaced. From what I've seen this is starting to become increasingly more of an issue with these trucks needing HCU/ABS replaced. I just got the truck back on 1-5-2023.

Intermittent "Service Electronic Braking System" and ABS lights during usage. Vehicle had the issue at 17500 miles. Dealer replaced ABS Hydraulic Pump. Now at 28000 miles, may need to replace Hydraulic Control Unit. Reviewing online forums, this is common occurrence among Ram Trucks. So common, that parts aren't available. Cost to repair is $2800. FCA knows there is an issue and allows 1000s of vehicle to operate without ABS or Traction control. FCA says it's safe to operate, however this vehicle was designed to tow 32000lbs, how is that safe without ABS or Traction Control? FCA should issue a recall for this known, dangerous, issue.

The Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) module that works in conjunction with the Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) is defected. My truck only has 29,000 miles on it, and this is an extreme error on Dodge Ram that needs to be cleared up. I was driving on the highway, and had to pull over since my brakes seemed like they failed when the ABS lights go on and off in the truck. I am at fear when I drive this truck now and the dealership quoted me $680 just for the HCU not even the ABS module. The dealership wants $1800 for a fix that should not happen through the company Dodge. The Dodge dealership said the ABS/HCU parts are on back order since it’s happening to a lot of other Dodge customers. I can’t even get into the truck without the ABS lights going on and off, and I’m worried that the brakes will fail.

Intermittent flashes saying service ABS system and Service electric braking system. Then goes away... Braking is affected by this. After 5 mins of research this seems to be a super common problem with these trucks. Why hasn't there been a safety recall done? It also appears that this form has been filled out several times for the same issue. I tow a lot and a truck with 37k miles should not be experiencing these safety issues. Called dealer and they said candidly they all are failing, it cost several thousand to fix and parts are on a 9 month backorder. I do have one question. What's the number of people to get hurt/killed to make this safety recall? I need an actual number. Screen shooting this form!

12/19/2022: While driving, brakes were not working properly. Depressed fully to floor or pumped to try to stop. Check engine lights coming on and off. PERFORM SERVICE, SERVICE DPF SYSTEM, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. Perform service light prior to failure and taken to dodge dealership. Vehicle was inspected by 2 Dodge Dealerships. Extended warranty company National AutoCare failed to show to inspect vehicle both times at Dodge Dealership. Problem was diagnosed by dodge but never fixed…. Safety is at risk when driving vehicle and is available upon request any help is appreciated!

Brake module failure. 1 Looking on the internet this seems to be a known problem with this model. The warning lights go off and on continuously. Dealership has been no help at all. The vehicle is inoperable.. 2 Vehicle only has 49,000 miles and all of the failures seem to happen after the 36,000 mile warranty has expired 3 Vehicle has been inspected by the dealership and brake module failure is the diagnosis. $2800.00 to repair defective module 4 Vehicle is erratic with the cruise

Right before 36000 miles the ABs and Traction control lights come on and off intermittently. I took the truck to my local dealer and was told 2 components needed to be replaced. They informed me it was not covered under warranty and they did not have the parts nor knew when they might get them in. This has been 4 or more months now and the lights stay on more often than they are off. I can’t use cruise control and it will not pass inspection with the lights on.

ABS Module Failure, This has been a re-occurring issue that nearly caused an accident. The abs and traction control lights come on intermittently and disables the ABS/traction control emergency braking system. The issue has existed for 2 months, the dealer tells me it needs a new control module which is not available till some time in 2023. There advise was watch my following distance and maintain lower speeds. Unfortunately yesterday the light came on and stayed on for 50 miles plus, due to an accident on the highway all traffic had to stop quickly, when i applied heavy braking my wheels locked up and the truck started to slide sideways, i was able manually get control by fluffing the brakes but had i panicked i would have had a collision. when i got the truck to a full stop i was inches from a small compact car. There's no way to fix this and its going to cost lives for this very widespread issue with the dodge ram 1 ton pick ups, where's the recall does this need to kill a few hundred or a few thousand people before its addressed.

A warning to have my electrical braking system checked continues to alert me while driving along with a abs warning. I notice no change in the system braking. When taken to a RAM dealer for repair the result is to wait months for an electric brake controller. Warning message disables the cruise control.

This episode occurred 8/10/2022, unable to get into shop until 8/23/2022 due dealership service appointment availabiity, milage 36,372. ram service dealer says different part needs fixed than previously but it appears the same part number? Both times when no ABS thenunable to use cruise control--long hauling trips not possible with this essentially new vehicle due to brake failure & no cruise control. At this time still no part available--date for availability keeps getting extended. Initiall told mid-Sept, then Nov, then before end of the year (2022), last check coupe weeks ago at 2-different dealershjps was not before 19 Jan 2023! Lumbar support on drivers seat does not funtion. Initially reported 8/23/2022 when truck taken in for ABS failure. Still inoperable. Ticket list item but no part # to indicate fixed & item closed. Still does not work, p.anwas to readdress when ABS parts in but still not available & unknown date of avaiability 4WD would not engage when first attempted 7/2019. Was taken to dealership & repaired under warrenty. Vehicle at that time had approx 5000, vehicle purchased Mar 2019 new. Appears to work at this time

Braking problems / ABS module failure. I never lost brakes but the ABS did fail and the ABS module and HCU had to be replaced @ 17400 miles at roughly 2 years old.

Service ABS message with loss of traction control and ABS performance required replacement of ABS and HCU modeles at dealer, Orr Ram in Russellville ,Arkansas, in April 2021 under warranty. Now 18 months later, the same issue has occured with ABS and Traction control loss. The service ABS message will appear, then disappear several times in a 40 mile trip. The vehicle had 28350 miles. Two ABS failures in less than 30,000 miles!

I was driving at highway speeds when the abs / traction control light came on. Notice cruise control was inoperative. The next day the warning lights were off. On the way home from work the system quit functioning again. After diagnosing found codes C0020-01 & U0403-00. ABS control module failure. I was told by the dealer this safety issue was not covered under warranty.

The service ABS warning intermittently would go off causing the brakes to function erratically and unsafely for both the truck and tow trailer. Replacing the HCU has resolved the issue.

"Service electronic braking system" and "service antilock brake system" are popping up on gauge cluster at highway speeds. This is a random event that started at about 35,000. The system shuts on and off constantly with chimes and alarms to “Service electronic braking system" and "service antilock brake system". I contacted the dealership by phone, and they said they know about this issue but there is no Recall yet and it’s not covered under powertrain warranty; they advised it needs to have the ABS pump and control module replaced. I have looked on the internet and see several thousand complaints for the exact same issue. To me this seems like a life/safety issue that is being ignored Stellantis / Ram.

HCU unit failing. Keeps throwing service abs, and service electronic brake controller. On off on off on off non stop constantly the whole time truck is almost undeliverable Part is unavailable due to supposedly back ordered. Been told part is known issue and that a recall should be done but it’s not. Hydraulic control unit. So driving a one ton truck with failing abs, traction control with no delivery date of a part that is junk.

Warning ding and dash indicates that the brake system of the car is failing. Actual message is Service Electronic Braking System After researching this it's clear that this is a massively widespread issue with all dodge ram heavy duty trucks. The repair requires changing out the ABS module from what I'm reading. My truck has only 20K miles on it and is near new condition, I can't afford to pay thousands to have the brake system repaired at my cost no a near brand new truck. This is impacting the ABS unit which would be a serious risk during slipper conditions when it is needed most.

HCU Issue: The ABS light coming on is the lightwill come on for two second and go off at times, through the diagnostics of the code C0020-01. It is a general electrical failureto the hydraulic control unit. The unit is replaced separate from the ABS moduel th HCU needs to be replacedfirst. In some cases, the ABS module that is bolted to the HCU needs to be replaced and programmed as well. The HCU needs replacement first. The total estimate is $1010.00 with labor. 2018 Ram 3500 4x4, driving down road hit bump service abs light and traction control light came on causing the ABS braking system to be inoperable. Took the truck to dealer where they diagnosed problem, ABS pump module needed to be replaced but was not under warranty they are trying to help me in this matter. Researched problem at home and looked up recalls, my truck was built in the time frame when a recall was issued but this truck was not included in recall. After reading many Ram truck forums this exact same problem has affected a lot of trucks exactly like this, I feel when a problem has affected thousands of trucks like this a recall is usually issued to resolve the faulty part especially being a major component as brakes are as well as a safety liability this is to the Dodge Ram corporation. Please answer the above questions as well as a solution to make my vehicle safe again.

2018 Ram 3500 - ABS system/Electronic braking system failure at 5583 miles. ABS/traction control and service electronic braking system display on dash, also audible chime with cruise control inactive. Took to dealership for diagnonis and code C0020-01 is active. Reccomended replacement of HCU which is common for these vehicles. Truck is out of warranty and estimate is $1080 for repair, which does not include the $301 I spent on diagnostics. There needs to be a recall on these Chrysler HCUs as they are a known issue and related to the braking system. Why do I see recalls on items such as malfunctioning tailgate latches but not braking systems?

ABS/HCU are defective and must be replaced. We have no ABS or Electric Brake System which has also caused the Cruise Control to not work. This is a known issue with 2018 2500/3500 models but recent recalls don't list this particular year within the scope fo the recall. Online research found a multitude of 2018 RAM trucks with the same issue - Recall Z20 should be modified to include 2018. My 3500 was purchased for towing as are most 2500/3500 models and this is not acceptable to not have ABS as well as Electric Brake Systems. Will be months to get the parts for repair due to nearly over 300,000 Rams and Durangos alone in the current Recall Z20 affected. (Incident was stopping to avoid hitting deer and no ABS. Next day when started up vehicle warning lights: Svc ABS and Svc EBS.)

ABS and Traction Control lights and DIC alarms came on while driving. They stayed on for a few minutes then went off. Also the service trailer brake system message came on. This has happened several times now turning off cruise control too. I reseated all fuses and went for two weeks before it started happening again. Happens sometimes as we go over expansion joints or hit potholes while driving at highway speeds. I notice several other reports of this here at NHTSA site and various RAM forums across various RAM years.

I am getting two errors: 1) Service anti-lock braking system with the ABS light on; 2) Service electronic brake system with the traction control light lit.

Abs and traction control system stopped working with only 33000 miles. Dealer states module and pump need replacement. No warranty as vehicle is 4 years old as no driving during covid. This has happen to 1000's of ram trucks. Repair is $1600. Will have to drive with out repair.

ABS and EBS sytem is shutting on and off on highway at speeds. This is a random event that started at about 20,000 miles then went away for about 6,000 miles then came back at 29,000 miles whil on a 1,500 trip and is now not going away. The system shuts on and off constantly with chimes and alarms to "service ABS/EBS. I have the truck at the dealership and they advsied it needs to have the ABS pump and control module replaced. I have looked on the internet and see several hundred complaints for the same issue. The delaer says this is not a recall and is not covered by warrenty. To me this seems like a safety issue that is being ignroed by Chrysler corp / Ram. They are looking at the numbers and not enough people have been in accidents to justuify the cost of a recall. I have a video of the issue system turning on and off constntly at about 62 MPH as I enetered the freeway from and on ramp to merge in trafic.

SERVICE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM DIAGNOSED USING OBD BY MIDAS: BOTH ABS MODULE AND PUMP ARE GOING OUT. VEHICLE IS NOT CONSIDERED SAFE TO DRIVE. AREA IS BACKLOGGED FOR THESE PARTS (1000). THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE AS I'M TOLD THIS IS A CRONIC PROBLEM. COST TO REPAIR IS EXCEEDING $1800 NOT INCLUDING THE DIAGNOSIS. CALLED OUR LOCAL DODGE/RAM DEALER AND THEY SAID IT IS NOT ON ANY RECALL. WHY NOT? ITS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT NHTSA INITIATES SAFETY RECALLS WHEN VEHICLES ARE IN PERIL OF CRASHING DUE TO A FAILURE. WE MADE IT HOME BUT IF IT WENT COMPLETELY OUT, WE WOULD NOT BE HAVING THIS DISCUSSION.

Truck has 22000 miles ABS and traction control lights constantly coming on and off along with service electronic braking system warning. Kicks the cruise control off every time it pops up. The cause is the abs module which apparently is a very common issue on these trucks and costs over $1000 to repair

The ABS Anti lock lights came on and says check Electrical Brake System. Dealer said The ABS anti lock brake pump assembly was bad and it was on me to replace it. This is a big safety Issue to me. I got a 2018 3500 ram and paying big money for a truck and my safety, there should be a recall before some people get kill.

ABS and Traction control pump system electrical failure. Went to a Dodge Dealer and had the system read due to light coming on and off. Originally started around 38,000 miles on the truck. A code came up C0020-01. ABS pump motor control electrical failure. Researched on the net. Seems to be a big issue from 2013 on up on trucks. Chaffing wires? Pump failure? Dealer said the ABS Pump could Possibly be bad. Wondering if there is a safety Recall or will have one. I have my truck scheduled for repair next week. Estimated cost of $700.00 according to service department.

The warning chirp occurred and the ABS and ESC lights came on the first two times. The incident happened so quickly I could not clearly determine which warning lights illuminated. On April 18 with just over 39,000 miles on the vehicle the chirping alarm and the ABS and ESC light illuminated. In addition two warnings appeared in the dash: "Service Antilock Brake System" and "Service Electronic Braking System." The warnings happened multiple times per minute in some cases. Other times the vehicle would go for many miles without the warning. Every time the warning chirp was heard the cruise control would disengage. I did not notice any problems with the brakes of the truck. In researching the issue I learned that many people are having this problem. I contacted Ram and they directed me to a dealer who diagnosed the C0020-01 fault code and that the hydraulic control unit (HCU) for the ABS system was defective. According the the TSB Ram has put out about the issue the ABS module could also be bad, but the first part of the repair it to replace the HCU and if the problem persists to then replace the ABS module. Ram apparently has an inconsistent level of support for owners experiencing this malfunction with some getting the repair done out of warranty, while others have to pay for the repair. Because it is brake related it seems this should be an item replaced as a safety issue, no matter what the mileage on the vehicle.

Service ABS light intermittent flashing and error code when checked. ABS is a safety issue that SHOULD not be defective at 40K miles. The ABS does NOT always work in inclement conditions such as rain, snow. When towing a 15K lb fifth wheel ram should FIX these issues as seen on many online communities

Service electronic brake system with the traction control light lit. Seems to be a common occurrence

Ram has issued a service bulletin to replace the ABS control module on 2018 Ram 2500 and 3500. This needs to be a recall as Ram is forcing customers to pay out of pocket or drive a vehicle without functioning ABS.

My ABS system has been experiencing intermittent failure, warning light comes on vehicle loses abs Also can’t align front end due to previous recall where dealership welded tie rod adjusting sleeve due to defect in lock nuts. Now vehicle eating front tires. How can a permanent fix remove a necessary adjustment. I understand welding as a temporary fix, until parts available to correct original factory defect. This is ridiculous

2008 RAM 3500 Laramie Longhorn with 20,000 miles flashing warning messages on front display repeatedly reading : "Service Antilock Breaking System" and "Service Electronic Break System". I am not sure why is doing this. I researched on the internet and it looks like its a common issue and several individuals had broght trucks in to replace parts and systems. I believe the parts replaced in those instances were: 68437098AB- Module Anti Lock Brake System, 68143491AA- Control Anti Lock Brake System. My truck still under full warranty.

ABS pump module failed with vehicle under 25K miles. Pump failed prematurely and failed while I was driving, disabling my ABS brakes. The ABS lights and check engine light did light up, it has since been replaced and there is no recall on this issue. Seems to be a common issue with FIAT Chrysler cars.

The abs system started malfunctioning after driving through heavy rain. Seems to be worse after the truck has warmed up. I have searched this problem and believe this should be a recall. How long before someone gets hurt or dies because of this problem?

At 40000 miles my service brake light has come on. This a bad HCU and according to multiple site is on thousands of HD trucks Cost to repair is 1500 fo a safety piece of equipment I ha replace 400 in sensors already and now unless our a Ram dealer you cannot buy he piece to replace

The abs system has failed on my truck and many more possibly by a dealer defect and no recall as of now. When the abs warning light comes on it also puts up a warning light for the electronic braking system and you aren’t allowed after that to set the cruise. Anytime you hit a bump or turn the wheels or just randomly at any given time the lights come up on the dash and it chimes which will drive anyone nuts. With the electronic braking system not functioning properly could potentially lock the brakes up on the truck in my opinion knowing how it functions. Which in my opinion is a safety hazard. Also I might add that taking my vehicle to my local dealership is a complete waste of time as the diesel mechanic up there is terrible at his job. He has misdiagnosed two of my trucks and I believe he had something to do with a transmission going out in one. He “fixed” it then 3000 miles later the transmission completely destroyed itself which made me have to trade the truck in. Also the traction control system does not function when the abs light is on. In doing research I have found many many people with this same problem.

The abs and tc lights came on and beeped. The message board said service abs. The brake pedal became spongy and unresponsive. I called a dealership and they stated they have changed a bunch of hydraulic brake pumps on the ram pickup especially this year model. I asked is this a safety problem? After hesitation he said yes. My other ram is doing the same thing and I know of another 2018 a friend had changed at 10,000 miles.

THE BRAKES ARE VERY SOFT AND THE TRUCK LEANS ON THE DRIVERS SIDE. DRIVERS SIDE REAR SITS 1 INCH LOWER AND THE FRONT DRIVERS SIDE IS 1/2 LOWER THIS LEANING ISSUE CAUSES THE TRUCK TO HANDLE DIFFERENT WHEN TURNING RIGHT WHILE DRIVING.

INTEGRATED BRAKE SYSTEM FOR TOWING TRAILERS (ITBS) DOES NOT WORK. SAFETY HAZARD AS THE TRUCK CAN NOT STOP THE 150000 POUND 29T ARCTIC FOX 5TH WHEEL. AFTER 4 ATTEMPTS DODGE GAVE UP AND SAID THE ITBS WORKS AS DESIGNED. THE 5TH WHEEL WAS CERTIFIED THAT THE BRAKES WORK WITH OTHER TOW VEHICLES. NOT WITH OUR RAM 3500 WHICH IS RATED TO TOW 22000 POUNDS WHICH IS A SAFETY HAZARD. WE ARE UNABLE TO STOP THE TRAILER IN AN EMERGENCY OR UNER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS USING THE ITBS.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2018 RAM 3500. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. IN ADDITION, THE HILL ASSIST WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO LANDER MCLARTY DODGE CHRYSLER JEEP RAM (6533 UNIVERSITY DR NW, HUNTSVILLE, AL) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS AN OPEN CIRCUIT IN THE BRAKE LAMP SWITCH THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5,000. *TT CONSUMER STATED THERE ARE NO MORE PROBLEMS. *JB
