The car turned off while driving on the highway. The car just recently within the last year or so started giving us electrical problems. The mechanic on August 14, 2025. Replaced the alternator, the second within 3 years. The battery replaced twice within 3 years, as well. Internal dashboard light flickers. The car fails to start several times a month. The driver & passenger seats is not stable, it shifts or moves. The battery's pos and neg poles are extremely hot. Steering wheel stiffened up hard to maneuver. The above problems are ongoing throughout the years. My wife hears a popping sound coming from under the hood.

Lost power steering while driving. The power steering warning came on. I pulled over and turned the car off. When I turned it back on the power steering returned. An inspection at the Zeigler Buick GMC of Lincolnwood in Chicago on 4/19/2025 confirmed that the power steering column needs replaced. I'm having it replaced, so the part will not be available for inspection. Thankfully, I was able to pull over right away after I lost power steering, so no damage was caused. This is the first issue I've ever had with my power steering in this car.

The contact's brother turned off, restarted the vehicle, and shook the steering wheel several times until the steering wheel became operable. The contact was able to drive the vehicle to the residence at slow speeds. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed. The mechanic determined that the electric power steering assist system had failed, and the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V153000 (Steering). The vehicle was not repaired. Wife has repeatedly mentioned loss of power steering and for a petite woman each incident was quite scary for her. I drove it for two days before it happened to me. It was much worse than simply a car with no power steering, which I've owned before. It seemed like something was actively working to prevent the steering wheel from turning. The force required was at my own limits to steer adequately. The next time the car was started it was fine. However, it goes out while driving; about 40 MPH, in my case, as I was merging onto the highway. As others have mentioned, my VIN is not included in the recall for the torque angle steering sensor. I also must advocate for the recall to be widened. Obviously GM purposely narrowed the recall, knowing the later vehicles had parts that were not substantially different.

While I was driving on the freeway my power steering failed and the car became impossible to maneuver safely. I had to take back roads home to minimize risks. I took it to an autoparts shop to see if they could help me find the power steering fluid resovior. This was when I found out my vehilce had an electric power assist and did not have a power steering pump. I drove home and the power assist would go in and out intermittenly. I looked online and found that my year of Saturn Auras had a recall associated with this exact problem. My complaint is that I have had the exact same issue present itself in my vehicle, but my VIN number states it did not have a recall. My question is why was it not recalled? It is an expensive repair and logically it seems that the recall should apply to my vehicle. It is the same make and model, but was not in recall according to VIN. I'm complaining that both GM and National Department of Transportation should have included my VIN in recall. I'm left with a car unsafe to drive. I could have a fatal accident when the power assist failed.

Power Steering has failed. Yes, it is available for inspection. Can not properly control the steering, difficult to go around a corner. Problem is constant - but not yet inspected. Warning lights for Traction control and Check Engine appear, and Service Power Steering appears on the Information Station, but not prior to the failure. Problem started around Dec 15, 2021 after parking it overnight. Started it the next morning and that is when the problem started. A Recall posted in May 2014 calls for repair of some 2007 & 2008 cars for this problem, but not for this particular car, built in April 2009. Seems as though all Saturn cars using these same parts should have been recalled. Thank you

The power steering completely failed while driving. This made the car very difficult to turn and because it happened at a high speed, if there had been an immediate need to swerve, it would not have been possible due to the power steering failure. It is not as if the steering became like a car with "manual steering", as I have driven one without power steering before. It was much worse. Similar to how a handicap access door is very difficult to open manually as it can also be opened with the push of a button. In addition, it should be noted that normal alerts made by the car are supposed to play a chime through the speakers. For this car, it seems to be played through the driver speaker, which also stopped working some time ago. In fact both the front speakers have failed and I've only been able to replace the passenger one thus far. Therefore, when you are driving, when the power steering fails randomly, the warning chime is not heard. The only way you would know it has failed is if you look down at the information center in the dash and catch the alert - or you try to make a turn. As you can imagine, finding out your steering has failed in the middle of a turn is incredibly terrifying and it is only by the grace of God that we have not had a wreck up to this point. We immediately stopped driving this car once this issue presented itself as it is not safe to drive. The dealer just made me aware that the failure was caused by the steering torque angle sensor. I had just recently had the power steering motor replaced because of the same exact problem. As it turns out, there is an outstanding product safety recall for the steering torque angle sensor: 14116B. However, my Saturn Aura was manufactured in 2009 making it ineligible for the safety recall. The recall only covers Auras (and other similar GM cars) manufactured through mid-2008. It is clear that this recall should be expanded to cover my vehicle for both of the aforementioned failures.

Wife reported power steering went out while in city traffic and she was not able to execute right hand turn. She had to gradually approach side of road, park, turned car off, turned on, jiggled steering wheel and assisted steering returned. She says at least one dashboard lit up, but doesn't remember which one.

THE ELECTRONIC STEERING ASSIST WILL LOSE POWER SO ESSENTIALLY WILL CAUSE THE POWER STEERING TO GO OUT AT ANY GIVEN TIME. THE CURRENT TEMPORARY REMEDY IS TO , TURN OFF THE KEY AND WAIT. RESTART THE VEHICLE AND THE POWER STEERING WILL RESUME. I DISCOVERED THIS DOING ONLINE RESEARCH FINDING THAT THIS WAS A COMMON RECALL FOR THIS VEHICLE IN 2008 AND 2009. BUT THE DATE OF MANUFACTURE FOR THIS VEHICLE. WAS IN 08/2008 MAKING IT A LITTLE OVER 1 MONTH FROM BEING ELIGIBLE FOR THE RECALL. I CONTACTED GM BUT WAS UNABLE TO TALK TO A LIVE PERSON AND 2 GM DEALERS ONE OF WHICH PREVIOUSLY SOLD THE CAR, AND GOT NO RESULTS. THIS STARTED OUT AS A VIBRATION AND WOBBLE IN THE STEERING WHEEL AND HAS PROGRESSIVELY GOTTEN WORSE. THE POWER STEERING SO FAR HAS GONE OUT UPON STARTING THE VEHICLE. MY ONLINE RESEARCH HAS NAMED THE RECALL ON THE SAME VEHICLE PART MALFUNCTION AS POWER STEERING ELECTRIC ASSIST.

I HAD A CONVERSATION WITH SATURN CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE CENTER AND THE RECALL WAS TURNED INTO A # 15356 SPECIAL COVERAGE ADJUSTMENT. I AM ON THE GM CORPORATE NEWSROOM SITE WHERE THEY STATE THAT IT IS A RECALL WITH MY YEAR VEHICLE. THEY ALSO MAKE A STATEMENT THAT BY THE V.P. JEFF BOYER IN A LOOKS LIKE A PRESS RELEASE TO NHTSA REGARDING THE RECALL. JEFF BOYER STATES" 'WITH THESE SAFETY RECALLS AND LIFETIME WARRANTIES, WE ARE GOING AFTER EVERY CAR THAT MIGHT HAVE THIS PROBLEM, AND WE ARE GOING TO MAKE IT RIGHT,' SAID JEFF BOYER, VICE PRESIDENT, GM GLOBAL VEHICLE SAFETY. 'WE HAVE RECALLED SOME OF THESE VEHICLES BEFORE FOR THE SAME ISSUE AND OFFERED EXTENDED WARRANTIES ON OTHERS, BUT WE DID NOT DO ENOUGH.' I PULLED INTO A DRIVEWAY AND WHEN I CAME OUT THE POWER STEERING WASN'T WORKING AT ALL. I HAD NO WARNING ABOUT THIS, IT JUST HAPPENED. NOW IT IS HAPPENING EVERY DAY AND SEVERAL TIMES A DAY. THE STEERING WHEEL SHAKES WHILE I'M IDLING AND SHAKES AND PULLS WHEN DRIVING. I HAD NO PROBLEM OR ANY KIND OF WARNING THAT THIS WAS GOING TO HAPPEN. I AM 58 YRS OLD AND MY MOTHER IS 85 YRS OLD AND WE SHARE THE CAR. I CAN BARELY STEER IT WHEN IT GOES OUT, THERE IS NO WAY MY MOM COULD TURN THE WHEEL.. IT FIRST HAPPENED WHEN I WAS PARKED, WHEN I CAME OUT AND STARTED THE CAR IT WAS NOT WORKING AT ALL. AN APPOINTMENT WAS SCHEDULE TO HAVE THE VEHICLE DIAGNOSED WHICH WAS STILL PENDING. THE MANUFACTURE WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 152,000.

IT'S AS IF THE STEERING WHEEL IS LOCKED. ONCE PULLED OVER, RESTARTING THE VEHICLE RESOLVES THE ISSUE, ALTHOUGH SOMETIMES IT TAKES SEVERAL RESTARTS. THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION THAT NOW HAPPENS DAILY. I WAS TOLD THAT MY 2009 SATURN AURA WAS NOT A PART OF THE 2014 RECALLS THAT ADDRESSED THIS ISSUE. I DID NOT OWN THE VEHICLE IN 2014, SO I CANNOT VERIFY IF THE PREVIOUS OWNER RECEIVED ANY RECALL NOTIFICATIONS. WHEN TURNING LEFT, YOU WOULD WIND UP ON THE RIGHT LANE AFTER COMPLETING THE TURN. YOU COULD NOT MAKE A TIGHT TURN WITH THE VEHICLE! SEVERAL CARS HAD TO SWERVE AROUND ME AS I WAS TURNING! THE DASHBOARD INDICATED THE FOLLOWING "POWER STEERING/SERVICE ESC" WHEN I GOT IT IN THE GARAGE AT HOME, I SHUT ENGINE OFF AND THEN RESTARTED. THE PROBLEM SEEMED TO GO AWAY. THIS IS A VERY SCARY SITUATION AND I HAVE READ THAT GM RECALLED CERTAIN 2009 SATURN AURAS FOR THIS PROBLEM. WHEN I CHECKED MY VIN, NO RECALLS WERE SEEN. SEPTEMBER 2017 WHEN I PURCHASED THE CAR UNTIL THAT DAY ON NOVEMBER 12, 2018, MY CAR HAD BEEN RUNNING GREAT AND HAD NO STEERING ISSUES OR CONCERNS. WHEN I SPOKE WITH A GMC DEALER I WAS MADE AWARE THAT THIS MAKE AND MODEL HAS MANY RECALLS INCLUDING A RECALL WITH THE SAME ISSUES MY CAR WAS HAVING BUT THAT WHEN LOOKING UP MY VIN # IT DOES NOT SHOW THAT MY CAR WAS PART OF THE RECALL TO BE FIXED. MY CAR IS HAVING THE SAME EXACT ISSUES AS THE EXACT SAME MAKE AND MODEL OF MY CAR AND I NEED SOME ASSISTANCE. PRIOR TO SETTING UP THE SERVICE APPOINTMENT WITH FELDMAN CHEVROLET, I WAS INFORMED BY A GM REPRESENTATIVE (NAMED CASEY) THAT IF MY VEHICLE ISSUES, AFTER BEING FORMERLY DIAGNOSED BY GM DEALER, WERE CONSISTENT WITH THE PROBLEMS COVERED UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY, MY VEHICLE MIGHT VERY WELL BE COVERED. I'M STILL AWAITING A CALL BACK FROM CASEY AFTER HAVING CALLED LAST WEEK. MY POWER STEERING PROBLEMS BEGAN IN APRIL 2015 WHEN I HAD APPROXIMATELY 135,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. AT THAT TIME THE POWER STEERING WOULD INTERMITTENTLY FAIL WHEN STARTING THE VEHICLE BUT I COULD ALWAYS FIX THE PROBLEM BY SIMPLY SHUTTING OFF THE ENGINE AND RESTARTING. THIS PROBLEM WOULD RE-OCCUR ABOUT ONCE EVERY OTHER MONTH OVER THE NEXT NINE MONTHS AND I WAS ALWAYS ABLE TO IMMEDIATELY RESOLVE THE PROBLEM BY TURNING THE POWER OFF AND RESTARTING. IT WAS AN INCONVENIENCE BUT NOT SIGNIFICANT ENOUGH TO CAUSE ME TO BE ALARMED OR TO CONSIDER A SERVICE CALL. IN EARLY FEBRUARY OF THIS YEAR MY POWER STEERING COMPLETELY FAILED AND I CAN NO LONGER FIX THE PROBLEM. IN ADDITION TO THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT THE ESC WARNING LIGHT IS CONSTANTLY ON. THE ADVISOR AT THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THE CONDITION WOULDN'T WORSEN SO I HAVE CONTINUED USING THE CAR. REGRETTABLY, I RECEIVED NO NOTIFICATION FROM GM ABOUT THIS ISSUE NOR WAS I OFFERED THE EXTENDED WARRY COVERAGE AT ANY TIME IN WRITING OR OTHERWISE. HAD I BEEN MADE AWARE OF THE EXTENDED WARRANTY, IN AUGUST 2015 WHEN IT WAS OFFERED, I WOULD HAVE QUALIFIED FOR THE EXTENDED WARRANTY COVERAGE AND WOULD HAVE HAD THE NECESSARY REPAIRS DONE.

THIS IS THE SECOND TIME IN THE LAST YEAR I LOST USE OF MY STEERING WHEEL. THE FIRST TIME, I WAS BACKING UP AND LOST ALL CONTROL OF MY STEERING. 2009 SATURN AURA XE, APPROXIMATELY 124,400 MILES. WHEN I STARTED THE CAR, THE DIC POWER STEERING LIGHT WAS ON. I WAS UNABLE TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL AT ALL. I GOT A RIDE HOME FROM WORK. THE NEXT DAY, A FRIEND CHANGED THE POWER STEERING FUSE. THE INDICATOR LIGHT WENT OUT AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR HOME. THIS DIDN'T FIX THE PROBLEM, THOUGH. I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP WHEN IT WENT OUT FOR GOOD. CODE: C0545-STEERING WHEEL TOGGLE SENSOR. THEY BLAMED THE POWER STEERING ISSUE ON HAVING THE BATTERY REPLACED. THEY DID SOME RESETTING OF CODES AND DID A RELEARN. THEY SAID THERE WERE NO RECALLS POSTED. MY SON PICKED UP THE CAR 3 DAYS LATER, WAS ABLE TO DRIVE 5 MILES BEFORE THE STEERING FROZE UP AGAIN. HE WAS STRONG ENOUGH TO BE ABLE TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL AND GET THE CAR BACK TO THE SHOP. THEY DETERMINED THE PROBLEM WAS WITH THE STEERING COLUMN AND THE ENTIRE THING HAD TO BE REPLACED, STATING THERE WERE NO SERVICEABLE PARTS. AFTER ANOTHER WEEK, I PICKED UP MY CAR. THIS ENTIRE EVENT COST ME $1300+ IN REPAIRS AND RENTAL CAR FEES. IF GM HAD POSTED A RECALL SOONER, THEY WOULD HAVE FIXED IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME. NOW, SATURN IS SAYING MY CAR ISN'T INCLUDED IN THE LATEST RECALL FOR POWER STEERING ASSIST AND THEY REFUSE TO REIMBURSE ME EVEN THOUGH MY CAR HAD A DEFECTIVE PART AND COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT HAD IT GONE OUT WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE. GM REFUSES TO FIX PROBLEM AND CONTINUES TO DELAY ANY ANSWERS FOR OVER 1 MONTH. I HAVE BEEN PROVIDED FALSE INFORMATION 3 TIMES FROM GM EXECUTIVE OFFICE ( CUSTOMER SERVICE) AND MY FAMILY CONTINUES TO BE FORCED TO DRIVE A VEHICLE THAT IS DEFECTIVE AND DANGEROUS. ON 12/06/2013 MY PREGNANT DAUGHTER, MY 15 YEAR OLD AND 2 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WERE DRIVING HOME IN OUR 2009 SATURN AURA. AS SHE BEGAN TO TURN INTO A BUSY HIGHWAY, THE ENGINE BEGAN TO SHAKE AND THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STOPPED MID TURN IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY INTERSECTION/HWY. PASSER DRIVERS PULLED OVER AND HELPED PUSH MY GIRLS TO SAFETY. AAA WAS CONTACTED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO MY HOME. I CONTACTED THE DEALER AND I WAS INFORMED THAT MY CAR WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY AND THAT I WOULD HAVE TO COVER THE COSTS OF SERVICING THE CAR. THE VEHICLE CONTINUES TO LOSE POWER AND TRY TO SHUT OFF AT CERTAIN SPEEDS. ABS AND TRACTION LIGHTS COME OFF AND ON, AND KEYS GET STUCK IN THE IGNITION. STEERING SOMETIMES PULLS LEFT OR RIGHT, LIKE YOUR ARE IN A RUT. IT CAN NOT BE CORRECTED BACK TO CENTER IT IN YOUR LANE. IT JUMPS TO THE OPPOSITE PULL. IT CAN DO THIS @ ANY SPEED INCLUDING ON THE INTERSTATE. THIS CAUSES YOU TO DRIFT BACK AND FORTH IN YOUR LANE FIGHTING TO CENTER THE CAR UNTIL THE STEERING RETURNS TO NORMAL. SOMETIMES IT LASTS ONLY A MINUTE, AND GOES AWAY, OTHER TIMES IT LASTS SEVERAL MINUTES AND JUST WHEN YOU THINK IT'S BACK TO NORMAL IT STARTS PULLING AGAIN. WHEN IT'S BEEN PULLING A LOT, THE STEERING WHEEL WILL ALSO SHAKE WHILE SITTING STILL SOMETIMES. THE DEALER CHECKED IT OUT AND FOUND NOTHING, BUT IT WENT AWAY FOR ABOUT 3 MONTHS.
