This vehicle has an electrical issue from time to time seemingly out of nowhere. There is no power steering it just shuts off sometimes it’ll stay off for an hour sometimes it’ll stay off for weeks and I can’t figure out how to fix it. It randomly fixes itself same can be said for the air conditioning And the driver side, headlight all of these electrical functions, seemingly turn themselves up or down for no apparent reason.

It says I have 0 I repaired recalls. I have had the powers steering fail 2x. More importantly, the ignition cylinder locks up and I can’t get my keys out. I have to wait most times after turning the car off - for 3-5 minutes through a series of clicking noises in the ignition before the key will release. It is concerning because sometimes I have to get out immediately and the keys don’t release. The car automatically locks itself and if I don’t roll the window down- I become locked out. It yesterday had a issue with ignition all together and I wonder if it’s related. I was made aware again there were many recalls on this issue and hoped to get it repaired. However it now states there are none unrepaired. I’m wondering if it is a ongoing problem with the vehicle, it’s repair parts etc and if it’s just not been addressed because it’s so old that so few are left on the road. Thank you. This is a increasing problem and a daily or every time I drive it issue now. I worry too the power steering will just go out in the interstate.

IT WAS FINE WHEN I BEGAN DRIVING . UPON RESTARTING THE CAR THE ERROR GOES AWAY. WHEN I PUT MY CAR IN PARK AND TRY TO TURN OFF MY IGNITION I HAVE TO PUT HE SHIFTIER IN PARK SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE I CAN REMOVE MY KEY. TODAY CAR RAN GREAT WHEN TRYING TO MOVE MY CAR AFTER STARTING MY CAR MY POWER STEERING WAS GONE. AGAIN UPON TURNING OFF MY CAR AND RESTARTING IT , THE POWER STEERING RETURNED. ABSOLUTELY ABYSMAL CUSTOMER SERVICE EXPERIENCE WITH ORANGE BUICK GMC ORLANDO. I HAD THEM DO TWO RECALLS ON MY '05 SATURN: THE IGNITION SWITCH (WHICH WAS GIVING ME PROBLEMS DUE TO THE PASSLOCK SYSTEM), AND THE ELECTRIC STEERING ASSIST (WHICH I'D HAD _ZERO_ PROBLEMS WITH PRIOR, IT WAS DONE AS A PRECAUTION). AFTER THE STEERING MOTOR WAS REPLACED, I STARTED HAVING INTERMITTENT POWER STEERING CODES ON STARTUP WITH NO ASSIST (TURNING THE CAR OFF THEN ON CLEARS IT). THEY REPLACED THE MOTOR AGAIN. PROBLEM STILL OCCURS. NOW THEY'RE SAYING THE STEERING COLUMN IS SUSPECT, IT'S NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL, AND THEY WON'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. HOW FUNNY THAT THE COLUMN WOULD HAVE BEEN TOUCHED BY THEIR TECHS FOR BOTH THE MOTOR AND IGNITION REPLACEMENTS.

WE DONT HAVE MONEY FOR AN ATTORNEY AND CHEVROLET AND SATURN REFUSES TO CORRECT THERE SREW UP. WE DROVE THE VEHICAL IN AND THEY WANT US TO TO PULL IT OUT WE DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO.

THE CAR DEALERSHIP STATED THE IGNITION AND POWER STEERING MOTOR WAS REPLACED,YET, I HAVE RECEIVED NO PAPERWORK STATING THIS WAS DONE. IGNITION WAS REPLACED. IF THE POWER STEERING MOTOR WAS REPLACED, IT WENT OUT AGAIN WHILE I WAS OUT OF TOWN, HAD A GARAGE REPLACE IT ALONG WITH THE MODULE BUT IT ALSO WENT OUT. TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AS PAPERWORK FROM GM STATED I SHOULD DO BUT THEY WOULDN'T HONOR IT BECAUSE IT WAS A USED PART. PREVIOUSLY, THE GAS LINES HAD TO BE REPLACED AS ONE COULD SMELL GAS EVERYWHERE AROUND THE VEHICLE. I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY A GM REP THAT THE CAR IS OLDER WITH A LOT OF MILEAGE AND PROBLEMS WILL HAPPEN BUT GM OFFICIALS KNEW ABOUT SOME OF THESE ISSUES WHEN THE CAR FIRST CAME OUT ... THEY DID NOTHING FOR 10 YEARS. THE POWER STEERING CONSTANTLY GOES OUT, SOMETIMES WITHOUT A WARNING OR SOMETIMES WITH CHIMES. I AM A 68-YEAR-OLD HEART PATIENT THAT HAS TO DRIVE A VEHICLE KNOWING AT ANY MOMENT THE POWER STEERING WILL GO OUT AND I COULD CRASH, YET, GM STATES PULL THE CAR OFF THE ROAD, TURN IT OFF AND BACK ON AND IT SHOULD BE OKAY. THIS IS NOT TRUE. I AM NOT ABLE TO STEER THIS VEHICLE WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSION EVEN THOUGH GM STATES, STEERING CONTROL CAN BE MAINTAINED, AS THE VEHICLE WILL REVERT TO A MANUAL STEERING MODE, BUT WOULD REQUIRE GREATER DRIVER EFFORT AT LOW VEHICLE SPEEDS, WHICH COULD RESULT IN AN INCREASED RISK OF A CRASH. " I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE LAST YEAR AND HAD NO CLUE ABOUT THE RECALLS. OR PERHAPS GM HAD NOT ADMITTED TO THEM YET. I HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE AS IS AS IT IS THE ONLY MODE OF TRANSPORTATION THAT I HAVE.

JOSH BAUGH STATED MY CAR WAS READY AND REPAIRED.CONFUSED, WENT TO GET MY CAR AND UPON ARRIVING AT MY HOME, THE KEY WOULDN'T COME OUT OF THE IGNITION AGAIN.CONTACTED JOSH BAUGH AGAIN AND HE SAID TO BRING THE CAR BY WHEN I GOT A CHANCE.RECEIVED A CALL FROM GM STATING THE PART FOR MY CAR WAS IN AND TO BRING THE CAR TO BE REPAIRED.WAS JUST TOLD BY THE WONDERFUL DEALERSHIP CAR WAS REPAIRED. TOOK MY CAR BACK AND NO REPAIRS HAD BEEN DONE.THEY LIED. I WAS DRIVING MY CAR AND A DEER RAN OUT IN FRONT OF ME, I WAS ABLE TO MISS THAT ONE BUT ANOTHER ONE CAME OUT AND I HIT IT. IT HIT SO HARD AND MY STEERING WAS HARD LIKE A CAR WITHOUT POWER STEERING AND THE BRAKES WERE LIKE THAT TOO. THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY NOR DID THE SAFETY BELTS CATCH ME AND MY GRANDDAUGHTER. IT DID $3500.00 WORTH OF DAMAGE TO MY CAR AND MY HEAD SLAMMED UP AGAINST THE DRIVER WINDOW, MY GRANDDAUGHTER WAS IN HER CARSEAT BUT I HAD IT IN THE FRONT SEAT SO IT RELEASED THE CARSEAT. SHE HAD BRUISES AND A BLACK EYE, AND NOW 3 YEARS LATER, THAT SAME EYE IS CAUSING HER PROBLEMS SEEING. EVERYDAY I FEEL SO BAD BECAUSE SHE WAS IN MY SATURN THAT NIGHT. PEOPLE ASKED ME OVER AND OVER WHAT ABOUT YOUR AIRBAGS, ETC. I NEVER KNEW WHAT TO SAY UNTIL I STARTED GETTING THE RECALLS AND REALIZED WHAT GM HAD KNOWN ALL ALONG ABOUT MY IGNITION. THIS YEAR MY CAR GOT STUCK IN THE RUN POSITION AND I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THEY WERE GONE FOR THE DAY. I UNHOOKED THE BATTERY CABLES AND THE CAR STILL WOULD NOT TURN OFF. FINALLY AFTER TOTAL DISGUST, ALL OF A SUDDEN THE ANTIFREEZE OVERFLOW TANK LID POPPED OFF AND SHOT ANTIFREEZE EVERYWHERE, IT JUST BARELY MISSED MY GRANDDAUGHTER AND MYSELF. THE DEALERSHIP COYLE CHEVROLET OF CLARSKVILLE IN CAME AND PICKED UP THE CAR, AND IN THE PROCESS RIPPED THE WIND SHIELD FOR THE SUNROOF OFF, AND CALLED ME TO TELL ME MY CAR NOW HAD A NOISE IN THE LOWER END OF THE ENGINE AND IT WOULD BE $600.00 AND UP. THEY TEST DROVE IT, AND TOLD ME THERE WAS NO ANTIFREEZE IN IT. I HAD ALREADY TOLD THEM WHAT HAPPENED. GM SENT A RECALL NOTICE FOR THE POWER STEERING MOTOR FAILING SO I TOOK THE CAR IN FOR SERVICE. ( 2005 SATURN ION 2 ) UP UNTIL REPLACING THE MOTOR WE HADN'T HAD ANY PROBLEMS. WITHIN THREE DAYS OF REPLACING THE MOTOR THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT WHILE DRIVING THROUGH A PARKING LOT. NOW THE GM DEALER WANTS $900 TO REPLACE THE MODULE IN THE STEERING COLUMN. KEY BECOMES STUCK IN THE ACCESSORY POSITION AFTER TURNING VEHICLE OFF, APPROXIMATELY 90% OF THE TIME I DRIVE IT. WHEN THIS OCCURS, I HAVE TWO OPTIONS: ALLOW THE BATTERY TO BE DRAINED AND JUMPSTART THE NEXT TIME I USE MY CAR, OR ATTEMPT TO LOCATE THE MANUAL RELEASE INSIDE THE STEERING COLUMN. BROUGHT THE CAR IN TO DEALER ON JULY 2013 AND THEY REPLACED THE POWER STEERING MOTOR PER THEIR "SPECIAL POLICY". THE CAR GOT WORST INSTEAD OF BETTER SINCE THEN. THE POWER STEERING LIGHT WOULD COME ON AN NOW THE WHOLE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM KEEP GOING CRAZY. THE MONITOR WOULD BLINK AND SHOW POWER STEERING WORDS, THE SIDE LIGHTS WOULD COME ON AN BLINKED BY ITSELF. HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH IGNITION AND ELECTRICAL SINCE 2006, BUT WAS "PUT OFF" BY LOCAL SATURN DEALERSHIP ON AT LEAST 6 OCCASIONS WHEN I QUESTIONED THEM ABOUT THE PROBLEM. FINALLY RECEIVED RECENT IGNITION RECALL, AND CONTACTED CHEVY DEALER TO FIX. DEALER PAID FOR RENTAL CAR UNTIL REPAIR WAS DONE (ABOUT 1 MONTH) AS INSTRUCTED BY GM CORPORATE. I ASKED DEALER ABOUT POWER STEERING RECALL AS CORPORATE HAD STATED MY VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN THAT RECALL AS WELL. DEALER FOUND NO HISTORY OF RECALL IN THEIR SYSTEM (CHECKED ON 2 OCCASIONS). I CALLED GM CORPORATE 3 TIMES AND WAS TOLD THE SAME STORY...MY CAR IS PART OF POWER STEERING RECALL (AS PER VIN), AND I WOULD RECEIVE MY RECALL LETTER SHORTLY. IT IS NOW JUNE, HAVE NOT RECEIVED RECALL LETTER FOR POWER STEERING. IGNITION WORKING OKAY NOW, BUT OTHER ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS STILL OCCURRING. I CALLED THE LOCAL GM DEALER AND HE ENTERED MY VIN# AND SAID THAT ALL HE COULD TAKE CARE OF IS THE IGNITION SWITCH THAT THERE IS NO RECALL FOR THE POWER STEERING. I HAD BEEN DRIVING APPROX. 2 HOURS OF A 11 HOUR TRIP WHEN I SAW A MESSAGE REPLACE THE ODOMETER ABOUT THE POWER STEERING. I LEFT I95 USING EXIT 98 AND PULLED OVER IN A GAS STATION. THE MANUAL STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING WAS ELECTRIC, SO NO STEERING FLUID TO CHECK. I RESTARTED THE CAR AND MAGICALLY THE PROBLEM WAS FIXED AND MY TRIP ODOMETER WAS MAGICALLY SET TO ZERO. I DROVE AROUND THE FRONTAGE ROAD AND EVERYTHING SEEMED FINE SO I CONTINUED ON MY WAY. 22 MILES LATER THE SAME THING HAPPENED. I TOOK THE NEXT EXIT, SHUT THE CAR OFF, RESTARTED IT AND MAGICALLY AGAIN IT WAS FIXED WITH NO RESET OF THE TRIP ODOMETER. WHILE DRIVING HOME IT HAPPENED TWO MORE TIMES, THEN ONCE MORE IN THE DRIVEWAY WHEN I WAS BACKING UP. SO A TOTAL OF 6 TIMES WITHIN A 5 HOUR PERIOD AND NO PRIOR HISTORY (SINCE I'VE OWNED IT) OF THIS PROBLEM. I PURCHASED THIS CAR USED FROM A DEALER MAY 28 2011 WITH APPROX. 46500 MILES. ON 11/15/11, THE SAME MESSAGE APPEARED AND COULD NOT STEER THE WHEEL. THIS IS AFTER SUPPOSEDLY THEY REPLACED THE PS MOTOR AND STEERING COLUMN. GOING BACK TODAY 11/16/11, TO SEE WHAT CRAP THEY ARE GOING TO TELL ME.WHY DOES THIS KEEP ON HAPPENING?? I HAVE A 2005 SATURN ION. MY WARRANTY RAN UP ON JUNE 11TH. JULY 1ST MY POWERSTEERING LIGHT CAME ON AND THE STEERING QUIT. TURN CAR OFF AND BACK ON IT WORKS AGAIN. NOW IT TURNS OFF AFTER 5 SECONDS SO BEEN DRIVING WITHOUT POWER STEERING FOR WEEKS NOW. I FEEL IT IS VERY DANGEROUS. TRIED REACHING SATURN DEALER KEPT GETTING TRANSFERRED TO VOICE MAIL FOR 2 WEEKS TO A JOHN. NO RESPONSE FROM THEM AFTER 2 WEEKS. WENT TO MY MECHANIC DID DIAGNOSTIC THE POWER STEERING MOTOR WENT BAD AT 42000 MILES. HE TOLD ME THAT ON LINE HE SAW THAT SATURN WAS HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THIS MOTOR. TOLD ME TO GOTO SATURN. THERE IS CURRENTLY AN ACTIVE RECALL OUT FOR THE 2005 ' 2010 CHEVROLET COBALT TO REPLACE THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING MOTOR. THE CHEVY COBALT AND THE SATURN ION ARE EXTREMELY SIMILAR VEHICLES AND HAVE THE SAME MOTOR. I HAVE HAD TO HAVE MINE REPLACED AT MY OWN COST. I APPROACHED SATURN CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY STATED THAT SINCE SATURN IS NO LONGER IN BUSINESS, GENERAL MOTORS WILL NOT BE DOING A RECALL. DEAR SIR/MADAM, THIS COMPLAINT IS ACTUALLY NOT ABOUT A REPAIR PER SE, BUT ABOUT THE WAY SATURN HANDLED MY CASE. - THE FAULT: POWER STEERING ASSIST MOTOR BROKE IN MID-DRIVE, LEAVING THE CAR ALMOST MANEUVERABLE - I CALLED SATURN'S CUSTOMER SERVICE TO ENQUIRE WHAT TO DO - SATURN TOLD ME THAT THEY ARE AWARE OF THIS ISSUE AND ACTUALLY HAVE A RECALL FOR THE SAME POWER STEERING ASSIST MOTOR FOR SEVERAL OTHER GM MODELS. - SATURN EXPLICITLY SAID OVER THE PHONE 'WE WILL TAKE CARE OF IT', AND THAT THEY WOULD PICK UP MOST OR ALL OF THE CHARGE - SATURN TOLD ME TO GET THE ISSUE REPAIRED AT STEWART AUTOMOTIVE GROUP IN COLMA, CA, WHICH I DID - THE REPAIR WAS $750 FOR A CAR THAT IS WORTH LESS THAN $5000! - A WEEK LATER SATURN CALLED AGAIN AND SAID THAT THEY WOULD NOT COVER THE REPAIR COST ANYMORE. - THEY REFUSED TO COMMENT ON THE PROMISE MADE BY SATURN THE WEEK BEFORE - I CALLED SEVERAL TIMES AND TRIED TO GET THEM TO PICK UP SOME OF THE CHARGE BECAUSE THIS IS LIKELY TO BE A MANUFACTURING DEFECT, BUT WAS UNSUCCESSFUL. - I AM NOW STUCK WITH THE CHARGE. I THEN PARKED THE CAR AFTER STRUGGLING WITH THE STEERING WHEEL TO TURN INTO A PARKING SPOT. I WENT SHOPPING, CAME BACK AND, WHEN THE CAR WAS RESTARTED, I HAD MY POWER STEERING. 2005 SATURN. CONSUMER STATES WHILE TRAVELING DOWN THE ROAD UNEXPECTEDLY THE POWER STEERING WOULD SHUT OFF. *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THE PROBLEM WAS WITH THE POWER STEERING ASSIST MOTOR AND THERE WAS A RECALL FOR OTHER MODELS. THE CONSUMER STATED HIS VEHICLE AND THE OTHER MODELS SHARE THE SAME PART NUMBER, WHICH WOULD EXPLAIN WHY EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM. THE CONSUMER STATED THE PROBLEM IS EXTREMELY SERIOUS, BECAUSE IT IS DIFFICULT TO STEER IN MANUAL MODE WITH NO POWER STEERING. *JB

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 SATURN ION. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 75 MPH, THE POWER STEERING LIGHT ILLUMINATED FOLLOWED BY A POWER STEERING FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO TURN BUT SHE WAS ABLE TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE. SHE TURNED IT OFF AND RESTARTED. UPON RESTARTING, THE POWER STEERING FUNCTIONED NORMALLY AGAIN. HOWEVER, A SHORT TIME LATER, THE POWER STEERING FAILED AGAIN BUT THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE HOME SAFELY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 33,000.

THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR ON AN INTERMITTENT BASIS. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP WHEN THE COMPLAINT WAS FILED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 99,800. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 100,500.

WE HAVE A 2005 SATURN ION THAT WE PURCHASE NEW. IT HAS BEEN LOSING IT'S POWER STEERING FOR A WHILE NOW. WE HAVE FOUND THAT WHEN THIS HAPPENS, WE CAN TURN THE CAR OFF AND RESTART IT, AND THIS SEENS TO TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE POWER STEERING SEEMS TO LAST FOR SHORTER PERIODS OF TIME, AND WE ARE NOT SURE WHAT TO DO. I FOUND THIS SITE AND DECIDED THAT WE ALSO NEED TO REPORT THE PROBLEM. HAVE HEARD DIFFERENT PRICES TO HAVE IT FIXED, BUT I THINK IT SHOULD BE COVERED IN THE GM RECALL (AS IT SEEMS TO BE THE SAME PART/PROBLEM THAT OTHER GM CARS ARE EXPERIENCING). VERY HARD TO CONTROL AND NOT SURE WHEN IT WILL BE WORKING FROM ONE MOMENT TO THE NEXT.

POWER STEERING HAS BEEN GOING OUT ON MY 2005 SATURN ION. AFTER SEARCHING ON THE INTERNET FOR CAUSES, I REALIZED MANY PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. IT WAS SAID THAT THE SYSTEM USED HAS BEEN RECALLED IN OTHER GM MODELS, BUT NOT THE SATURN ION LINE. IT WAS SUGGESTED BY THE OTHER OWNERS THAT WE SUBMIT THIS PROBLEM IN AN EFFORT FOR A RECALL. I WAS ADVISED AFTER CALLING SATURN A THIRD TIME THAT I FILE A COMPLAINT ON THIS WEBSITE TO GO TOWARD A RECALL OF MY ELECTRIC POWER STEERING MOTOR ON MY SATURN ION 2. 1. ONE NIGHT IN NOVEMBER 2009, WHILE MAKING A LONG DRIVE ON THE HIGHWAY, MY POWER STEERING WENT OUT WITHOUT WARNING. WHEN I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON, THE POWER STEERING CAME BACK ON. 2. HOWEVER, SINCE THEN, THE POWER STEERING STARTED TO GO OUT MORE AND MORE FREQUENTLY. FOR THE PAST TWO MONTHS, THE POWER STEERING GOES OUT AS SOON AS I START DRIVING THE CAR AND I DRIVE WITHOUT IT 99% OF THE TIME. I HAVE NO IDEA WHETHER I AM CAUSING ANY FURTHER DAMAGE TO THE CAR DRIVING IT LIKE THIS. THERE IS NO WARNING OF IT HAPPENING OTHER THAN THE BEEP THAT OCCURS AFTER IT GOES OUT. I WAS TOLD BY SATURN THAT IF I WENT TO ONE OF THE (FEW REMAINING) SATURN DEALERS TO HAVE A DIAGNOSTIC DONE, IT WOULD THEN CONTRIBUTE TO A RECALL. I DID GO HAVE THIS DONE, AND THE DEALER TOLD ME IT WAS "ONLY A MATTER OF TIME TILL A RECALL, SINCE WE SEE THIS PROBLEM EVERY DAY NOW". THEY EVEN STARTED CARRYING JUST THE MOTOR SINCE IT WAS SO EXPENSIVE FOR THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE TO HAVE TO REPLACE THE WHOLE STEERING COLUMN. THEY QUOTED ME A PRICE FOR REPAIR AND I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THE RECALL. IT IS VERY HARD TO SCRAPE UP $600 TO REPAIR A PART THAT THEY ALL KNOW IS DEFECTIVE. ON JAN 16 2010 MY 18 YEAR OLD SON WAS DRIVING OUR 2005 SATURN ION AND HE CALLED ME ON MY CELL TO TELL ME THE POWER STEERING SUDDENLY STOPPED WORKING. I TOLD HIM TO PULL OVER, (HE ALREADY DID) TURN THE CAR OFF, AND WAIT A FEW MINUTES. HE DID THAT AND CALLED ME BACK ABOUT 15 MINUTES LATER TO SAY HE DID MAKE IT HOME AND THE PS FAILED AGAIN RIGHT BEFORE HE GOT HOME. HE THEN TOLD ME HE NOTICED THE POWER STEERING LIGHT ON THE DASH WOULD COME ON IF THE RADIO WAS ON SO HE DID NOT HAVE THAT ON FOR THE REST OF THE WAY HOME. IT DID NOT MAKE ANY SENSE AT THE TIME UNTIL I WAS TOLD T THE CAR HAS ELECTRIC STEERING. THE NEXT DAY (SUNDAY), I DROVE THE CAR TO SEARS TO HAVE THE BATTERY TESTED THINKING THAT WAS THE PROBLEM AS I HAVE NEVER CHANGED OUT THE BATTERY SINCE THE PURCHASE OF THE CAR. SEARS SAID THE BATTERY WAS FINE AND THEY SAID MY PROBLEM WITH THE POWER STEERING WAS PROBABLY NOT RELATED TO THE BATTERY AND THEY RECOMMEND I TAKE IT TO THE DEALER. DURING THE DRIVE THAT DAY TO SEARS THE POWER STEERING WAS FINE BECAUSE I DID NOT TURN ON THE RADIO OR HEADLIGHTS (THE PS LIGHT ALSO CAME ON WHEN THE LIGHTS WERE TURNED ON). HOWEVER, ON THE WAY HOME THE PS AGAIN FAILED ANYWAY RIGHT BEFORE WE GOT HOME. THE CAR WAS NOT DRIVEN THE REST OF THE DAY. THE NEXT DAY, MONDAY THE 18TH, I DROVE THE CAR TO THE SATURN DEALER (SATURN OF TUCSON) AND THE STEERING WAS FINE THE WHOLE WAY OVER. THE DEALER REPLACED THE POWER STEERING MOTOR AND THEIR EXPLANATION WAS IT SHORTED OUT. I ASKED IF THIS WAS SOMETHING I CAUSED AND THEY SAID NO. THEY ALSO HAD NO EXPLANATION AS TO WHY THIS HAPPENED GIVEN THE CAR HAD ONLY 61,000 (APPROX) MILES AND IT WAS ONLY 4.5 YEARS OLD. THE REPAIR COST WAS $296.00. *TR

I OWN A 2005 SATURN ION WITH ABOUT 46,000 MILES ON IT. I LOVE MY LITTLE CAR AND HAD HOPES OF OWNING IT FOR YEARS TO COME. HOWEVER, MY HOPES OF BEING A HAPPY SATURN OWNER IS QUICKLY FADING AS I CONTINUALLY HAVE PROBLEMS WITH MY STEERING COLUMN. FIRST IT WAS THE IGNITION, WHICH I HAVE REPLACED TWICE, AND NOW THE POWER STEERING IS TURNING OFF WHILE I'M DRIVING. NEITHER GM NOR SATURN ARE WILLING TO WORK WITH ME. GM HAS SAID IT IS NOT A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. I HAVE A 2005 SATURN ION-3 WITH 87,639 MILES ON IT. LAST WEEK ON THE FREEWAY OUT OF NOW WHERE MY POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING. THIS PROBLEM CAUSED ME TO SWERVE ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. I THEN PULLED OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO RE-GROUP AND TRY TO FIGURE OUT WHAT WENT WRONG. AFTER A FEW MINUTES I STARTED THE CAR AND STARTED DRIVING, IT WAS AS IF NOTHING EVER HAPPENED. THIS HAPPENS ALMOST EVERY TIME I DRIVE IT NOW. IT OCCASIONALLY TRIPS THE POWER STEERING LIGHT, SO I TOOK IT TO MY LOCAL SATURN DEALER. THEY SCANNED THE CAR TO CHECK THE PROBLEM AND SAID THAT I NEED TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN DUE TO A FAILED POWER STEERING MODULE. THEY WANT $955.00 PLUS TAX TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING MY CAR. HOWEVER I HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO DEAL WITH IT FOR I HAVE NO OTHER MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION AND I HAVE TO BE ABLE TO MAKE IT BACK AND FORTH TO WORK TO SUPPORT THE FAMILY. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 SATURN ION. A MONTH AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE, THE POWER STEERING WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO TURN THE STEERING COLUMN, BUT WAS UNSUCCESSFUL. SHE TURNED OFF AND THEN RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND THE STEERING COLUMN RESUMED WORKING. SHE STATED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN LOCKED ON THREE OCCASIONS WHILE DRIVING. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE AND THEN REPAIRED THE VEHICLE. WHEN I SHUT OFF MY 2005 SATURN ION, THE KEY DOES NOT ALWAYS COME OUT OF THE IGNITION AS IT SHOULD. I HAVE TO WAIT A FEW MINUTES BEFORE THE KEY WILL COME OUT. THIS IS A RECURRING PROBLEM AND HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR OVER A YEAR. I AM ALSO HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY POWER STEERING. THE PWR STR COMES ON ALL THE TIME. WHEN I SHUT THE CAR OFF, IT RESETS, BUT AFTER A FEW MINUTES IT COMES BACK ON AGAIN. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR THE PAST TWO MONTHS. THE POWER STEERING ON MY 2005 SATURN ION COMPLETELY STOPPED WORKING RIGHT AT ABOUT 37000, RIGHT AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRED. I TRIED TO HAVE IT FIXED, BUT IT'S A NEW TECHNOLOGY SATURN IMPLEMENTED, (STATE OF THE ART ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING SYSTEM), AND IT WILL COST $1100 TO FIX IT. MY CAR IS FAIRLY NEW STILL, AND SATURN CORP. REFUSES TO MEET WITH ME IN THE MIDDLE ON THE COST. I SENT A LETTER TO GM IT WAS PASSED TO SATURN CORP. ONGOING PROBLEMS NEVER FIXED.STARTED AT 19000 MILES AND CONTINUE WITH MILEAGE AT 31000. 2 DIFFERENT SERVICE DEPTS. STILL HAVE THE PROBLEMS. BLOWN OFF BY SATURN CORP. BY RUDE CUSTOMER SERVICE. FIRST SERVICE VISIT AFTER SPECIFICALLY MAKING AN APPOINTMENT FOR THIS LEMON RESULTED IN A CAR WASH. THE NOISE TECH WAS NOT IN. I DROVE 40 MILES FOR A CAR WASH? NEVER WENT BACK. SATURN SENT A CUSTOMER SATISFACTION SURVEY AND I REPLIED; "CALL ME". THEY INSTRUCTED ME TO GO TO ANOTHER DEALER. I DID AND THE SERVICE ADVISOR TOLD ME IT WAS MY ROTORS MAKING THE NOISE. HE THEN TRIED TO CHARGE ME FOR THE REPAIR!!! THE VEHICLE IS UNDER WARRANTY. HE THEN SAID THAT THEY WILL DO IT AT NO CHARGE AFTER I PROTESTED. I RECEIVED THE CAR BACK, SAID THANK YOU AND LEFT. WHEN I GOT ABOUT A MILE FROM THE DEALERSHIP, THE PROBLEMS WERE STILL THERE (NOISE AND VIBRATION FROM THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE). I CALLED HIM FROM MY CELL PHONE AND TOLD HIM AND HE SAID ;"OK, WE WILL GET YOU IN SOMETIME DURING THE WEEK SO WE CAN SPEND MORE TIME WITH IT". COULD YOU IMAGINE HOW I WOULD HAVE FELT IF I HAD ACTUALLY AGREED TO PAY? I WAS VERY UPSET. SATURN CORP. CALLED ME AFTER ABOUT 2 WEEKS AND ASKED ME HOW IT WENT AND I TOLD THEM IT DID NOT GO WELL. THEY CONTACTED THE SERVICE MANAGER AND AFTER A WHILE, HE CALLED ME. I TOLD HIM THAT I WOULD COME BACK IN AFTER THE HOLIDAYS. I CALLED HIM TO SET AN APPOINTMENT JUST AFTER THE NEW YEAR. WE SET ONE UP ON A SATURDAY MORNING AT THE DEALERSHIP. I SHOWED UP, HE DID NOT. I WAS TAKEN CARE OF BY A SERVICE ADVISOR. AFTER CHECKING THE CAR OUT, HE SAID THAT THEY NEEDED TO CHANGE THE "RACK". SO, I HAD TO COME BACK AGAIN. I PICKED IT UP THE NEXT DAY. HERE IS THE BOTTOM LINE; NOW THE CAR DRIFTS, TO THE RIGHT TO BE EXACT, OH, AND MY VIBRATION IS STILL THERE ALONG WITH THE NOISE IN THE FRONT END. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE. I WAS ATTEMPTING TO CHANGE LINES ON MD I-97 NORTH BOUND FROM THE SLOW RIGHT LANE TO THE FAST LANE LEFT LANE. WHEN A CAR IN THE FAST LANE SPEED UP WHICH NEVER ALLOWED ME TO CHANGE LANES, I CONTINUED TO TRAVEL IN THE SAME SLOW RIGHT LANE. WITHIN 1 MINUTE AFTER THAT ACTION OF THE ATTEMPTED LANE CHANGE, I EXPERIENCED THE STEERING WHEEL SHAKING ERRATICALLY AND TRYING TO PULL TO THE RIGHT. ALTHOUGH THE CAR WAS GOING STRAIGHT, THE STEERING WHEEL KEPT PULLING TO THE RIGHT. EVENTUALLY, THE CAR STARTED FISHING TAILING OR SWERVING. WHEN I TRIED TO SLOW THE CAR DOWN, THE SENSITIVITY OF THE STEERING WHEEL OVER COMPENSATED FOR THE MINOR TURNING OF THE STEERING WHEEL AND BASICALLY TOOK OVER THE STEERING FROM ME. THIS ACTION OF THE CAR PLACED ME INTO A POSITION IN WHICH I COULD NOT FULLY RECOVER ON MY OWN AND MADE THE CAR SPIN OUT OF CONTROL FACING THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION AND SUBSEQUENTLY Y CAUSING AN HEAD-ON COLLISION. *NM
