Fuel and evap line rusted out inside heat wrap for exhaust pipe near rear drivers tire. Pumped out fuel onto street.
The year, make, and model of my car has a factory recall for the fuel pump failing. I went to the dealership and they informed me my Vin # wasn't included and their was nothing they could do about it. My vehicle started leaking fuel last week so I dropped the tank and removed the fuel pump. I have done my homework on this including watching several videos on YouTube concerning this issue and I'm 100% positive this fuel pump has failed in the exact location that all the other recalls have and yet my Vin number isn't on the recall according to this GMC service department manager. I am going to have to put a fuel pump in at my expense today because it's my transportation for work but I'm very upset about this situation and GMCs failure to have my vehicle included and having to replace their defected fuel pump. It's very frustrating knowing I'm putting my time and money towards it because I have my hands full trying to replace the house that Hurricane Ida destroyed about a month ago. We need help with this situation because our money is very tight and don't really have it to fix GMCs mistake. I will keep the fuel pump that came out of it along with the receipt for it so anyone can clearly see that I'm not only correct but being shafted on the recall. The car is leaking gas from the gas tank. I see recalls from this year, make and model from this vehicle yet when I put my VIN in it says 0 recalls.
THE RPMS JUMP AROUND AND THE A/C MAKES NOISE AND LIGHTS FLICKER AT TIMES. THE CAR WILL JUST STALL IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION OR WHEN I'M TURNING ONTO ANOTHER ROAD. IT'S QUITE SCARY WITH CHILDREN IN THE CAR. MY MAIN CONCERN IS A LARGE SUV PUT IT IN REVERSE AND HIT THE FRONT OF MY CAR BEFORE ENDING UP ON THE HOOD NEAR THE WINDSHIELD. I STARTED SMELLING GAS WHEN GETTING OUT OF CAR. THEN IT GOT PROGRESSIVELY STRONGER GAS SMELL THAT LINGERED ON STRONG AN HOUR AFTER THE CAR HAD BEEN SITTING. THE MANUFACTURER IS REFUSING TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM AND STATES THE CAR IS NOT COVER UNDER THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED BECAUSE THE DEALER DID NOT HAVE THE PARTS AND THE CONTACT WAS STILL REQUIRED TO MAKE A PARTIAL PAYMENT. THE CONTACT ASKED FOR A RENTAL VEHICLE, BUT HER REQUEST WAS DENIED. THE CONTACT HAD TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE HOME WITH IT LEAKING FUEL. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED FOR HER SAFETY. THE DEALER MENTIONED THAT THERE WAS SPECIAL COVERAGE FOR CERTAIN PARTS UNDER A WARRANTY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED, BUT DID NOT DISCLOSE A LOT OF INFORMATION DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE CONTACT WAS SPEAKING WITH HER ATTORNEY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. MY CAR IS THE SATURN ION 'REDLINE' FOR SOME REASON I CAN'T PULL UP MY CAR ONLY A REGULAR SATURN ION BUT MY CAR IS DIFFERENT. I COULD TELL THE GAS WAS COMING FROM THE TOP OF MY TANK. WHEN I DROPPED THE TANK I COULD SEE THAT THE FUEL LINES ON MY FUEL PUMP WERE BROKEN! THE LINES WERE BROKE RIGHT AT THE PUMP. ON THE SATURN AND REDLINE FORUM I SEE THAT MY CAR ISN'T THE ONLY REDLINE TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM MY CAR ONLY HAS APPROX 137000 MILES ON IT, THE FUEL PUMP SHOULD NOT HAVE BROKE LIKE THAT. THERE IS RECALLS ON SOME SATURN IONS IN CERTAIN STATES FOR THE FUEL PUMP LINES BREAKING JUST LIKE MINE DID. MY CAR WAS PUT TOGETHER IN TENNESSEE I BOUGHT IT BRAND NEW IN 2006 IN NEW JERSEY AND NOW I LIVE IN KENTUCKY. I DON'T BELIEVE I SHOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR A NEW FUEL PUMP WHEN THIS PROBLEM IS OBVIOUSLY NOT JUST LIMITED TO SATURN IONS IN ARIZONA AND NEVADA. MY KIDS AND MYSELF GOT SICK FROM THE GAS FUMES AND WE'RE LUCKY NOT TO OF HAD SOME SORT OF SPARK HIT THE PUDDLE OF GAS UNDER MY CAR.

LATER I FIND OUT THAT IS UNDER A SPECIAL COVERAGE RECALL AND IT COULD ONLY BE REPAIRED BY THE DEALERSHIP FOR THE REPAIRS TO BE COVERED. I CONTACTED CUSTOMER CARE AND WAS TOLD TO SUBMIT THE PAPERWORK AND THEY WOULD CHECK INTO IT . I SUBMITTED PAPERWORK IN JANUARY 2017 AND HAVE WAITED FOR RESPONSE , NOW IN MARCH 2017 I DECIDE TO CONTACT THEM BECAUSE I HAVE HAD NO NEED THEY TELL ME THAT MY REQUEST WAS DENIED BECAUSE THE REIMBURSEMENT CAMPAIGN ENDED IN 2014. I WAS TOLD THAT IF I HAVE THE PROBLEM AGAIN THEY WOULD BE HAPPY TO REPAIR IT AT THE DEALERSHIP. MY CAR IS 11 YEARS OLD AND 104,050 MILES ON IT. I WOLD HOPE THAT THE PUMP WOULD LAST LONGER THAN A FEW THOUSAND MILES BECAUSE FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND IT HAS A MILEAGE CAP. SO IN SHORT I AM OUT ALMOST $500.00 .

I DID RESEARCH AND FOUND OUT THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON SOME SATURNS THAT WERE SOLD IN DIFFERENT STATES, I CALLED GM, THEY TOLD ME I NEEDED TO GO TO A GM DEALER TO SEE IF IT WAS THE PART THAT WAS UNDER RECALL, IF IT WAS, THEY WOULD PAY TO REPLACE THE PART UNDER RECALL AND MY GAS LINES, YEAH RIGHT!! THE DEALERSHIP CHARGED ME $50 AND TOLD ME IT WASN'T THE RECALL PART. SO I HAD TO PAY TO GET NEW GAS LINES. AFTER IT WAS FIXED I COULD STILL SMELL GAS..I SHOULD'VE TAKEN IT BACK RIGHT AWAY BUT I DIDN'T. NOW, HERE I SIT AGAIN, NOT BEING ABLE TO DRIVE MY CAR BECAUSE OF THIS AGAIN! THE PROGRESSION OF THE LEAK WAS FAST - OVER 7 DAYS, AND ONLY ABOUT 70 MILES DRIVEN (I DRIVE <5,000 MI / YR). I WENT ONLINE TO RESEARCH THE PROBLEM, AND FOUND GM RECALL #090226 / NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID# 09V419000, WHICH PERFECTLY DESCRIBES WHAT'S HAPPENING. I'M PLANNING TO CALL GM TOMORROW ABOUT THIS, BUT I EXPECT TO BE DISAPPOINTED, SINCE MY CAR WAS NOT PURCHASED OR REGISTERED IN ANY OF THE STATES LISTED IN THE RECALL. IT SHOULDN'T MATTER WHERE I BOUGHT OR REGISTERED MY SATURN; IF MY CAR DEMONSTRATES THE SAME DEFECT, THE REPAIR SHOULD BE COVERED BY GM. I ALSO FOUND A SCARY NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS ON VARIOUS WEBSITES FROM OTHER SATURN OWNERS WHO ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEMS, BUT ARE ALSO NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. RE THE 2013 FUEL SYSTEM RECALL. PARTS CRACKED AND FUEL LEAKED. GM RECALLED AND PROMISED TO REPLACE SYSTEM. MY VEHICLE BEGAN LEADING IN MAY OF 2016. I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER WHERE IT HAS SAT FOR ONE MONTH. DEALER UNABLE TO GET FUEL FILLER ASSEMBLY PART 15918244 FROM GM AND GM MAKING NO PROMISES ABOUT FIXING IT OR GETTING THE PART. WHY WOULD CARS IN ALL 50 STATES NOT BE COVERED - IF IT HAS TO DO WITH HEAT, I WOULD THINK THAT YOU WOULD BE MORE CONCERNED FOR VEHICLES IN STATES THAT HAVE VARIABLE TEMPERATURES, SINCE THAT COULD CAUSE PLASTIC TO CRACK, TOO. I TOOK THE CAR TO CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE. THERE WAS A PUDDLE OF GASOLINE ABOUT THE SIZE OF A SOFTBALL WITHIN TWO MINUTES OF PARKING THE CAR IN THEIR PARKING LOT. THEY HAVE INFORMED ME THAT THE FUEL LINES HAVE RUSTED AND WILL COST IN EXCESS OF $700.00 TO REPAIR I FEEL THAT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE DUE THE CLOSE PRESENCE OF THE EXHAUST SYSTEM AND IS A DESIGN/PARTS FLAW IN THE DESIGN OF THE CAR.

THE PIPES ONLY ROTTED IN THE REAR ALONG THE FRAME WHERE THEY ARE COVERED BY HEAT SHIELD IN CLOSE PROXIMITY TO THE EXHAUST. THE REMAINING PARTS OF THESE FUEL PIPES ARE PERFECT. EVEN THE BRAKE LINES THAT RUN ALONG WITH THE FUEL LINES ARE PERFECT RIGHT THERE. EVERY BRAKE LINE LOOKS PERFECT MAYBE DO TO A FACT THAT THEY ARE COATED WITH A BLACK MATERIAL FROM THE FACTORY. THERE IS NO RECALL ON THESE PIPES BECAUSE IT ISN'T PART OF THE FUEL MODULE.

I HAVE A 2006 SATURN ION SEDAN AND THE SAME ISSUE HAPPENED TO MY CAR ON SEPTEMBER 28, 2012, ONE DAY BEFORE I WAS AWARE OF THE RECALL. THE PLASTIC PART CONNECTING THE FUEL LINE TO THE FUEL PUMP CRACKED, SPILLING GAS AROUND THE CAR AND UNDERNEATH. REPAIRS WERE $856 AND LUCKILY I HAD NO FIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSE THAT THE PLASTIC SUPPLY ON THE MODULAR RESERVOIR ASSEMBLY HAD CRACKED AND FUEL WAS LEAKING FROM THE AREA. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED OF RECALL NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 09V419000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL SINCE THE CONTACT DID NOT RESIDE IN ONE OF THE STATES SPECIFIED ON THE NOTICE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 40,000. MY 2006 SATURN ION KEY WOULD NOT TURN OFF. LEFT VEHICLE RUNNING UNTIL I COULD FIND A SERVICE SHOP OPEN AT 7PM. TOOK CARE TO NON-GM SHOP FOR FIXING THAT NIGHT, SHOP CLAIMED THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM. IGNITION TUMBLER WAS BROKEN. THEY REPLACED FOR AROUND $400. SATURN WOULD NOT EVEN CONSIDER COVERING THIS SINCE I DID NOT USE A GM DEALER. ALMOST 1 YEAR LATER THIS HAPPENED AGAIN. LUCKILY PARTS AND LABOR WERE COVERED WITHIN THE YEAR, HOWEVER, NOW THEY STATED THAT THE TUMBLER HOUSING IS ALSO WORN OUT AND ARE WANTING TO CHARGE AN ADDITIONAL $300 TO COVER THE NEW PARTS AND DIFFERENCE IN LABOR. FIRST INSTANCE WAS AT 63,000 MILES, SECOND INSTANCE AT 75,000 MILES. UNACCEPTABLE. *TR

RECENTLY, I HAVE NOTICED A STRONG ODOR OF GASOLINE IN AND AROUND THE CAR. I SEARCHED THE FUEL LINES TO SEE IF THERE WAS A LEAK AND THERE WAS NOT. I DID SOME RESEARCH ONLINE AND FOUND THE GM RECALL FOR THE FUEL PUMP OF THIS VEHICLE. THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER IS 09V419000. I CONTACTED GM AND GAVE THEM MY VIN TO SEE IF MY CAR WAS ONE OF THE AFFECTED. THEY TOLD ME IT WAS NOT. I SEE THAT THE RECALL INCLUDES 2006 SATURN IONS IN NORTH CAROLINA, BUT APPARENTLY MY CAR IS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. THE ISSUE WITH MY CAR IS EXACTLY THE SAME LISTED IN THE RECALL. I HAVE DONE MORE RESEARCH AND HAVE FOUND OVER 80 OTHER COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER SATURN ION OWNERS STATING THAT THEIR CARS ARE DOING EXACTLY THE SAME THING. HOWEVER, THEIR CARS ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL EITHER. I BELIEVE THIS ISSUE AFFECTS A MAJORITY OF THESE MODEL CARS, NOT JUST THE ONES LISTED IN THE RECALL SENT OUT BY GM. *TR

THE PROBLEM DESCRIBED IN THE RECALL DESCRIBES WHAT HAPPENED TO MY VEHICLE. EVERY TIME FUEL IS SLIGHTLY BELOW A QUARTER TANK THE ENGINE STALLS AS IF THE CAR IS RUNNING OUT OF GAS AND THE CARS DRASTICALLY REDUCES SPEED WITH MINIMUM POWER. ALSO, AFTER THE INCIDENT OCCURRED I WENT ONLINE TO RESEARCH THE PROBLEM AND FOUND OUT THAT THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN RECALLED FOR FUEL PUMP PROBLEMS AS WELL AS LIGHTING IRREGULARITIES. FURTHERMORE, AS I CONTINUED USING MY VEHICLE THE IGNITION SWITCH CYLINDER BROKE CAUSING THE KEY TO BE STUCK AND WAS UNABLE TO TURN OFF THE IGNITION OF THE CAR. LUCKILY, I HAVE A STICK SHIFT TRANSMISSION AND WAS ABLE TO TURN OFF THE CAR BY PUTTING IT INTO 4TH GEAR AND LETTING GO OF THE CLUTCH TO TURN OFF THE IGNITION. UNFORTUNATELY, THE CAR BATTERY REMAINS ON AND IN ORDER TO COMPLETELY TURN OFF THE CAR I HAVE TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY CABLE SO THE BATTER LIFE IS NOT DRAINED. *TR
