The contact's parents own a 2007 Saturn Ion. The contact stated that there was a fuel odor coming from the vehicle when the vehicle was started or turned off. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact's father inspected the vehicle but could not find a fuel leak. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 12V459000 (Fuel System, Gasoline) which she linked to the failure. The contact notified the manufacturer of the failure and was informed that the vehicle was not under recall. The dealer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.

The contact owns a 2007 Saturn Ion. The contact stated while starting the vehicle, there was an abnormal fuel odor entering the cabin of the vehicle. The contact then noticed fuel leaking from the vehicle. The vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed or repaired. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 12V459000 (Fuel System, Gasoline). The approximate failure mileage was 76,000.

The contact owns a 2007 Saturn Ion. The contact stated that while he was attempting to start the vehicle failed to start. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact stated he began to smell a fuel odor inside and outside the vehicle and also saw a fuel leak between the rear tires. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic and was informed that the fuel pump module needed to be replaced. The contact called and made the local dealer aware of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 12V459000 (Fuel system, Gasoline) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE MAIN FUEL LINE AND THE FUEL VAPOR LINE TO CANISTER RUSTED THROUGH AND THERE WERE HOLES ON THE FUEL LINES. IN ADDITION, A STRONG ODOR OF FUEL ENTERED THE CABIN OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL TANK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE SATURN ION 2007 THAT I OWN IS BLEEDING GAS. FUEL LINES ARE RUSTED NEAR THE PLASTIC RETAIN CLIP. FUEL PUMP PLASTIC IS CRACKED, FUEL TANK HAS RUSTED IN A SMALL BUT SIGNIFICANT SPOT. RECALL #09V419000 IS NOT BEING ADHERED TO BY GM. THIS IS THE MOST UNSAFE PROBLEM I HAVE EVER HEARD OF. I LIVE IN VIRGINA, VERY HUMID STATE. 100% HUMIDITY IS COMMON. I SHOULD HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM SINCE IT IS RECALLED. IF THIS HAS NOT CAUSED MULTIPLE FIRES AND FATALITIES IT WOULD BE A MIRACLE. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO FAULTY IGNITION SWITCH RECALL ISSUES. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED AFTER THE RECALL WAS PERFORMED, HE NOTICED THE REMOTE NO LONGER WORKED, WHICH WORKED PRIOR. THE NEXT PROBLEM, WAS THE KEY BEING DIFFICULT TO REMOVE FROM THE IGNITION AND SOMETIMES IT WAS DIFFICULT TO INSERT THE KEY INTO THE IGNITION. OCCASIONALLY, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT SHUT OFF. THE CONSUMER WOULD HAVE TO TURN THE KEY TO OFF AND THEN ON, WHICH WOULD REQUIRE SEVERAL ATTEMPTS, TO GET THE VEHICLE TO TURN OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHEY THE SHAVED THE KEYS AND SAID THAT SHOULD FIX THE PROBLEM. AS FOR THE REMOTE, THE DEALER COULDN'T REPROGRAM IT, AND THEY SUGGESTED, JUST BUYING A NEW ONE. THE CONSUMER SOON DISCOVERED, THE PROBLEM REMAINED THE SAME. ALSO, THE FUEL PUMP HAD TO REPLACED. THE PUMP WAS BUILT WITH PLASTIC FUEL LINES MOLDED INTO THE TOP OF THE PUMP. AT ABOUT 70,000, THE PLASTIC LINES CRACKED AT THE TOP OF THE PUMP, PROBABLY DUE TO VIBRATION. THE PROBLEM COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED, BY USING STEEL LINES CONNECTED TO THE PUMP, OR COMING OFF THE PUMP WITH A SHORT SECTION OF THE HOSE. THE FRACTURE LEAK WAS SMALL AT FIRST, BUT SMELL GAS WAS PRESENT, BUT A LEAK COULD NOT BE FOUND, UNTIL THE PRESSURE LINE CRACKED AT THE POINT IT MADE A PUDDLE UNDER THE VEHICLE. THE PUMP WAS REPLACED AT A COST OF $ 600. HOWEVER, THE NEW PUMP WAS BUILT EXACTLY LIKE THE FAILED PUMP. *JB

STARTED SMELLING GASOLINE AROUND THE CAR. UPON INSPECTION FOUND THAT THE GAS TANK WAS LEAKING AT THE SEAM WHERE THE FILLER TUBE GOES INTO THE TANK. THE LEAK WAS NOT JUST AT ONE POINT BUT PRACTICALLY ALL THE WAY AROUND. THE GAS WAS LITERALLY STREAMING OUT. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND ALL THEY SAID WAS THAT IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER ANY RECALL AND UNLESS THE FUEL PUMP ITSELF IS LEAKING THEY WOULD CHARGE ME $120 DIAGNOSIS FEE. I PATCHED IT AND GOT IT DOWN TO A SEEP. ABOUT 2 MONTHS LATER THE FUEL PUMP STARTED LEAKING. I TOOK IT TO A DIFFERENT DEALER AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD REPLACE THE PUMP BUT I HAD TO PAY FOR THE FUEL TANK ($831). LABOR WOULD BE FREE SINCE THE TANK IS OFF ANYWAY. MY COMPLAINT IS THAT THE FUEL TANK SHOULD NEVER START LEAKING. IT WAS LEAKING FAR MORE THAN THE PUMP AND IN MY OPINION WAS FAR MORE DANGEROUS. EVEN AT VERY LOW LEVELS IT WOULD LEAK A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT, ESPECIALLY IF PARKED ON A UPWARD INCLINE. *TR

I DON'T KNOW WHAT CAUSED IT, BUT I RECENTLY STARTED NOTICING A STRONG FUEL ODOR AROUND MY CAR WITHIN THE LAST MONTH. I CRAWLED UNDERNEATH THE CAR TO CHECK FOR LEAKS AND DETERMINED THAT THE FUEL TANK HAS CRACKED AT THE SEAM WHERE THE PLASTIC SPOUT WAS MATED/MOLDED TO THE MAIN PART OF THE PLASTIC FUEL TANK ON THE REAR SIDE OF THE TANK. FUEL CURRENTLY LEAKS FROM THE CRACK WHEN THE TANK IS APPROXIMATELY MORE THAN 3/4 FULL; ESPECIALLY WHEN ACCELERATING AND FUEL IS FORCED TO THE BACK OF THE TANK. THE ONLY REPLACEMENT PART (CURRENTLY PART NUMBER 20870462, WHICH REPLACED THE OLD PART NUMBER OF 25947829) IS AVAILABLE FROM A GM DEALERSHIP AND THE RETAIL PRICE IS $695. *TR

THE PORTION OF THE FUEL LINES NEAR THE FUEL PUMP, WHICH IS HIDDEN BY A FLEXIBLE COVER UNDERNEATH CAR, WAS DISCOVERED TO BE SEVERELY RUSTED NEARLY TO THE POINT OF LEAKING, REQUIRING FUEL LINE REPLACEMENT. IN CONTRAST, THE PORTION OF THE FUEL LINES EXPOSED UNDERNEATH CAR WAS STILL IN PRISTINE CONDITION. (CAR HAS BEEN GARAGED AT NIGHT SINCE DELIVERY.) ALTHOUGH GM HAS ISSUED A RECALL FOR FUEL PUMP LEAKS, THE PROBLEM OFTEN IS INSTEAD THE FUEL LINE HAS RUSTED THROUGH AND IS LEAKING. THIS PROBLEM WOULD NOT BE EXPECTED, AND THUS APPEARS TO BE DUE TO A SATURN DESIGN OR MANUFACTURING DEFECT. BECAUSE OF THE PREVALENCE AND SIGNIFICANT SAFETY ISSUE, THE SERVICE MANAGER EXPECTS GM WILL EVENTUALLY ISSUE A RECALL FOR THE FUEL LINE PROBLEM. BECAUSE THE PORTION OF THE FUEL LINE SUBJECT TO SEVERE RUSTING IS HIDDEN BEHIND THE FLEXIBLE COVER UNDERNEATH THE CAR AND NOT THE EXPOSED SECTION, IT IS LIKELY TO BE NOTICED ONLY AFTER LEAKING OCCURS, RESULTING IN A FIRE HAZARD. A RECALL APPEARS DESIRABLE TO INSPECT PARTICULARLY THE HIDDEN PORTION OF THE FUEL LINES NEAR THE FUEL PUMP AND REPLACE THEM IF NEEDED. ALTHOUGH A MANUFACTURER MUST PROVIDE A REMEDY TO SAFETY-RELATED DEFECT A NO COST TO THE OWNER, IN THIS INSTANCE GM REFUSES TO PAY FOR THE FUEL LINE REPLACEMENT UNLESS THE NHTSA COMPELS THEM TO ISSUE A RECALL. *TR

I WAS STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT. THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN AND I DEPRESSED THE GAS PEDAL. THE CAR STARTED TO MOVE AND IMMEDIATELY DIED. I TURNED THE KEY IN AN ATTEMPT TO RESTART THE CAR SEVERAL TIMES; THE CAR ENGINE WOULD TURN OVER BUT IMMEDIATELY DIE. I WAS STRANDED IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION. I CALLED 911 FOR HELP SO THAT I COULD GET OUT OF THE INTERSECTION AND NOT GET HIT BY ONCOMING CARS. POLICE RESPONDED AND MOVED MY CAR; I THEN WAITED FOR A TOW TRUCK, AND HAD CAR TOWED. AT THE REPAIR SHOP, THEY DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A BAD FUEL PUMP. UPON REPLACEMENT OF FUEL PUMP, CAR WOULD NOT START; ACCORDING TO INVOICE REPORT, THEY THEN REMOVED GAS TANK AND FOUND "NO POWER TO FUEL PUMP MODULE" AND THEN "INSPECTED HARNESS" AND FOUND "INTERNAL OPEN WIRES AT POWER SIDE" AND "NEED TO REPLACE UPPER FUEL PUMP" AS WELL. *TR

SHE KEPT SMELLING FUEL AND FOUND OUT THE SEARS DID NOT REPAIR THE CAR SO SEARS GAVE HER A FULL REFUND AFTER SHE COMPLAINED. SHE TOOK THE CAR TO A SERVICE STATION AND HAD THE FUEL LINE REPLACED BECAUSE SHE WAS TOLD IT COULD NOT BE REPAIRED....IT WAS CRACKED. THE LETTER GM SENT STATED THAT IF WE HAD ALREADY MADE REPAIRS FOR THE FUEL PROBLEM, THEY WOULD REIMBURSE. WHEN I GO TO THE GM WEBSITE NOW, IT STATES THAT THE 2007 SATURN ION HAS NOT BEEN RECALLED. 2 MONTHS AGO I RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER FROM GM STATING IF I SMELL GAS OR SEE A LEAK BRING THE CAR IN FOR REPAIR AT NO CHARGE. IT ALSO STATED IT WAS NOT NECESSARY TO BRING IT IN UNLESS I'M EXPERIENCING THESE ISSUES. SUNDAY AFTERNOON WHILE DRIVING I NOTICED A STRONG SMELL OF GAS AND I THOUGHT NOTHING OF IT. I HAVE A SENSITIVE NOSE. MONDAY I COULD VISIBLY SEE GAS DRIPPING FROM THE CAR AND THE SMELL WAS SO STRONG I GOT SICK. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK IT TO GM DEALER. THEY CLAIM THAT THE PARTS AROUND THE RECALLED PART ARE BROKEN AND NOT THE ITEM RECALLED ITSELF. THEY WANTED $974.00 TO FIX IT AND WOULD NOT ALLOW ME TO DRIVE AWAY AS IT WAS DANGEROUS. THEY WERE UNABLE T FIND A PROBLEM AS WELL. HE CONTINUED TO HAVE PROBLEMS PERIODICALLY WITH THE BRAKES. A YEAR LATER, THE POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING. THE CHIMES AND WARNING LIGHTS WOULD COME ON, AND THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD LOCK UP. IT WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO MAKE TURNS; ESPECIALLY PARKING. DRIVING DAUGHTER FROM BIRTH OF FIRST GRANDSON, PASSING DRIVER TOLD ME SOMETHING WAS POURING FROM UNDER OF MY CAR, CONTINUED TO DRIVE DAUGHTER/NEWBORN HOME, THEN MY HOME. CONTACTED MECHANIC FRIEND, TOLD THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE FUEL MODULE FOR 2006 IONS,THAT I SHOULD LET GM TAKE CARE OF IT. I CONTACTED THEM, GAVE VIN NUMBER, EXPLAINED WHAT I WAS TOLD BY MY MECHANIC. BUT SINCE I AM IN WEST VIRGINIA, VIN NOT INCLUDED. BOUGHT CAR USED JULY 2010, 19056 MILES, CASH $10,900. NOT TOLD BY DEALER A POSSIBLE PROBLEM WITH FUEL MODULE, RECALL HAD ALREADY BEEN ISSUED. HUSBAND HAS CANCER, ONLY USED TO GO TO DOCTOR'S APPOINTMENTS/CHEMOTHERAPY. TOLD BY GM TO SET UP APPOINTMENT WITH NEAREST DEALERSHIP, THEM DIAGNOSE IT, MAYBE THEY COULD GET AN EXCEPTION BECAUSE OF WV NOT BEING LISTED. CONTACTED NEAREST GM DEALERSHIP, TRIED TO SET UP APPOINTMENT TELLING THEM PROBLEM, STATING DIAGNOSIS TO BE PAID OUT OF POCKET, THEY WOULD CONTACT SOMEONE IF IT WAS RELATED TO THE RECALL, BUT IN THEIR EXPERIENCE THERE WAS NEVER AN EXCEPTION MADE. ALLINCLUDE ALL IONS WITH THIS PROBLEM, NO MATTER THE STATE OF ORIGIN. NOTICEABLE GAS SMELL AROUND THE AREA OF THE VEHICLE'S GAS TANK WHICH BECAME WORSE WHILE DRIVING. I BROUGHT MY CAR INTO A LOCAL SERVICE STATION TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT. EVENTUALLY, AFTER REMOVING THE FUEL TANK, THEY FOUND THE CAUSE OF THE LEAK TO BE A FAULTY FUEL PUMP MODULE. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH SATURN IONS AND THERE IS A RECALL IN EFFECT (09V419000), BUT IT ONLY APPLIES TO VEHICLES THAT ARE SOLD OR REGISTERED IN CERTAIN STATES. I FEEL LIMITING A RECALL TO A CERTAIN AREA IS WRONG. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM THAT COULD HAVE RESULTED IN MY VEHICLE CATCHING FIRE. I BELIEVE THAT SATURN (GM) SHOULD TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY VEHICLES THAT ARE AT RISK FOR THIS DEFECT AND SHOULD REIMBURSE THE OWNERS FOR ANY RELATED REPAIRS. MY PROBLEM IS THAT DUE TO THE LOCATION I AM AT ILLINOIS I AM NOT INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL TO BE REIMBURSED FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF THE FUEL PUMP. I READ THE RECALL AND IT IS ONLY INVOLVING THE STATES THAT ARE CONSIDERED HOT. (IT DOES GET INTO THE 90S-100 IN ILLINOIS ALSO. THE FUEL LINE WILL BE REPAIRED UNDER THE WARRANTY AND THE REPAIRS TO THE CLUSTER BOARD AT NO COST WERE BEING REVIEWED BY THE MANUFACTURER. SHE WAS AWAITING A CALL FROM THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER. 2007 SATURN ION. CONSUMER REQUEST THE REPLACEMENT OF A FUEL TANK *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED SHE PAID AN OUT OF POCKET EXPENSE OF $ 988.05 FOR THE PARTS AND LABOR TO REPLACE THE FUEL TANK. SHE BELIEVED THE LEAK FROM THE FUEL TANK WAS A DIRECT RESULT OF THE SERVICE PERFORMED WHEN SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR A SAFETY RECALL. SHE STATED SHE HAD NOT EXPERIENCED ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE PRIOR TO THE RECALL THAT SHE RECEIVED IN MARCH 2010. ON JUNE 2, 2010 THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. 2007 SATURN ION. CONSUMER REQUEST THE REPLACEMENT OF A FUEL TANK *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED SHE PAID AN OUT OF POCKET EXPENSE OF $ 988.05 FOR THE PARTS AND LABOR TO REPLACE THE FUEL TANK. SHE BELIEVED THE LEAK FROM THE FUEL TANK WAS A DIRECT RESULT OF THE SERVICE PERFORMED WHEN SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR A SAFETY RECALL. SHE STATED SHE HAD NOT EXPERIENCED ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE PRIOR TO THE RECALL THAT SHE RECEIVED IN MARCH 2010. ON JUNE 2, 2010 THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE REPAIR, SHE HAD DIFFICULTY STARTING THE VEHICLE AND THERE WAS A LOUD RUMBLING NOISE WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN. THE CONSUMER RETURNED TO THE DEALER AND THE FUEL PUMP MODULE WAS REPLACED FOR A SECOND TIME AND AN EXHAUST SHIELD WAS SHIFTED. THE CONSUMER THEN TOOK A TRIP. DURING THAT TIME, SHE SMELLED GASOLINE AT TIMES, BUT WAS UNSURE IF IT WAS COMING FROM HER VEHICLE. AFTER PARKING THE VEHICLE IN A SMALL GARAGE, THERE WAS A STRONG GASOLINE SMELL WITHIN AN HOUR. WHEN THE CONSUMER HAD HER OIL CHANGED, THE TECHNICIAN NOTED THE VEHICLE WAS LEAKING FUEL AT THE HOSE TO THE TANK AREA AND RECOMMENDED THAT SHE TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER IMMEDIATELY. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER THERE WAS A LEAK COMING FROM THE FILLER NECK LEADING TO THE FUEL TANK, AND THE ENTIRE FUEL TANK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE IN APRIL 2010 WHEN MY POWER STEERING WENT OUT ON MY 2007 SATURN ION 3 CAUSING ME TO ALMOST BE IN AN ACCIDENT. I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURNED THE CAR OFF THEN BACK ON AND THE POWER STEERING ACTED FINE. TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP ONLY TO FIND OUT THIS IS A "KNOWN PROBLEM" AND THEY FIXED IT. THEN IN JULY, 3 MONTHS LATER, I HAD A VERY STRONG ODOR OF GASOLINE AND WAS HAVING PROBLEMS STARTING THE CAR. UNFORTUNATELY I HAVE A 2007 SATURN ION WHICH SOUNDS LIKE IT IS GOING TO BREAK IN HALF OVER EVEN THE SLIGHTEST SMALL BUMPS IN THE ROAD. I HAVE A WARRANTY ON THE VEHICLE WHICH EXPIRED IN JUNE 2010. ALTHOUGH THE CAR ONLY HAS 29000 MILES ON IT~ SATURN WOULD NOT HONOR THE WARRANTY WHEN I BROUGHT MY CAR IN FOR A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT~ IT WAS THE PURGE SENSOR. THEY WANTED TO CHARGE ME OVER $300 TO REPAIR THIS ISSUE. I WENT ONLINE AND SAW MANY OTHER'S HAD REPORTED THE SAME PROBLEM. I ALSO SAW THE PART FOR ONLY $26.00 ~HOWEVER AT THE SATURN DEALERSHIP THEY CHARGED ME $51.00 FOR THE PART. I ENDED UP FIXING THE REPAIR MYSELF TO AVOID BEING ROBBED BY THE SATURN DEALERSHIP!! I AM VERY DISPLEASED WITH MY CAR~ NOW THE STRUTS AND CONTROL ARM BUSHINGS ARE MAKING SIGNIFICANT RUMBLE WHEN DRIVING OVER THE SLIGHTEST BUMPS IN THE ROAD. AT 29000 MILES THE CAR SHOULD NOT BE MAKING ANY NOISE!! I FEEL VERY UNSAFE AND SCARED IN MY SATURN!! I'VE SEEN MANY REPORTS OF OTHER OWNER'S WITH THE SAME VEHICLE THAT ARE SIMILAR. EVEN THE GM COBALT WHICH HAS THE EXACT SAME PLATFORM AND STEERING HAS THE SAME ISSUES AND FOR THAT CAR POWER STEERING ISSUES HAVE BEEN RECALLED BUT NOT FOR THE ION WHICH ~I REPEAT HAS THE SAME COMPONENTS. I BOUGHT MY CAR WHEN FUEL COSTS SOARED AND THOUGHT IT WOULD AT LEAST LAST ME 5 YEARS WITH OUT ISSUES. I THINK GM NEEDS TO ADDRESS THESE ISSUES ESPECIALLY SINCE SO MANY CONSUMERS ARE EXPERIENCING ISSUES AT SUCH LOW MILEAGE. THERE ARE ALSO ISSUES WITH THE REAR DEFROST, POWER WINDOWS, STEERING, AND TRANSMISSION. I'M FROM MN. AND IT'S TERRIBLE WHEN YOU HAVE A NEWER CAR THAT WON'T EVEN TAKE YOU 30,000 MILES WITHOUT BREAKING DOWN!! MY WIFE WAS DRIVING OUR 2007 SATURN ION TO VISIT FAMILY IN KY WHILE I AM IN THE MIDDLE EAST(MILITARY) WE LIVE IN VA SO THIS IS QUITE A DRIVE. MY WIFE WHILE DRIVING THE CAR NOTICED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND SHORTLY AFTER THE CAR JERKED VERY HARD WHILE TRAVELING AT LIKE 60MPH, MY WIFE STATED THAT IT FELT LIKE SHE WAS REARENDED BUT WAS NOT, CAUSING HER TO SWERVE SOME I AM GLAD NOTHING HAPPENED CAUSE MY 2 LITTLE BOYS WERE IN THE CAR AS WELL. SO MY WIFE TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP WE BOUGHT IT FROM, WHICH IS NO LONGER A SATURN DEALER BUT STILL A GM COMPANY. THEY SAID WE NEED TO REPLACE OUR FUEL PUMP, AND FUEL INJECTORS. I DID SOME RESEARCH ON PARTS AND CAME ACROSS THE RECALL ON THE FUEL PUMP AND CALLED THE 800 # LISTED AND THEY CALLED MY WIFE TO TALK TO HER AND THEY CALLED THE DEALERSHIP WHERE WE BOUGHT THE CAR. THE DEALERSHIP WE BOUGHT THE CAR FROM STATED THAT THE FUEL PUMP WHILE FAULTED IS NOT FAULTED DUE TO A DEFECT AND THAT THEY WILL NOT COVER THE COST AND THAT IF WE WANT IT FIXED IT WILL COST OVER 1000 DOLLARS. MY WIFE AND I FEEL THAT THIS IS TOO MUCH OF A COINCIDENCE TO BELIEVE THAT THIS IS THE CASE. IN LATE OCTOBER 2009, THERE WAS A STRONG SMELL OF GASOLINE WHILE DRIVING MY CAR. I TOOK MY CAR TO MY LOCAL SATURN DEALERSHIP, WHERE I HAD PURCHASED MY CAR. THE SERVICE MANAGER ADVISED ME THAT I MUST HAVE GONE OVER A SPEED BUMP TOO FAST BECAUSE THE FUEL PUMP HAD BEEN PUSHED INTO HE BOTTOM OF MY CAR CAUSING THE FUEL PUMP TO CRACK AND LEAK. I HAD NO RECOLLECTION OF THAT KIND OF IMPACT AND THERE WAS NO EXTERIOR DAMAGE TO MY CAR.
