I HAVE A WIRE THAT BURNED-OUT AND IT CONTROLS MY WINDOWS, SUNROOF,MY AC CONTROLS, AND THEN ALSO MY TRANSMISSION IS SHUTERING
While driving, the car will automatically shift into 1st gear. Steering will then be disabled to the point of crash. Transmission/computer issue. Major issue with Saturn Outlooks.
I just purchased this vehicle & on my way home with it the check engine light came on. I hooked up the diagnostic code scanner on the car and it threw several different codes PO700, PO752, PO420. There are specific transmission issues with this particular year, make, and model. My car has the exact same symptoms as the others that were recalled so why has mine not been recalled as well? It's malfunctioning just as the others described in the recall so clearly this is a common issue with these particular vehicles. I feel my car should be covered as part of the safety recall on the transmission and I need it repaired as soon as possible.
THE VEHICLES AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WAS NOT SHIFTING APPROPRIATELY WITH FLUCTUATING CHANGES OF SPEEDS, THEN THE CAR WOULD NOT MAINTAIN A SAFE SPEED TO EXIT THE FREEWAY. AFTER PARKING I CALLED A TOW TRUCK AND HAD IT DELIVERED TO THE CLOSEST DEALER WHERE THEY HAD PUT IN A REBUILT TRANSMISSION WHEN THE VEHICLE HAD 90,223 MILES BACK IN 2013. NOW, LESS THAN 50,000 MILES LATER THE DEALERSHIP IS TELLING ME THE VEHICLE NEEDS ANOTHER TRANSMISSION AT THE COST OF $5,500. IF A VEHICLE ONLY GETS 50,000 MILES OUT OF A TRANSMISSION SOMETHINGS NOT RIGHT! I HAVE MY RECEIPTS FROM THE FIRST TRANSMISSION THAT CLEARLY INDICATE THE MILEAGE.

LUCKILY NO ONE WAS BEHIND ME BECAUSE I COULDN'T DRIVE THE SPEED LIMIT AS REQUIRED BY LAW. I FEEL AS IF IT PUT MY LIFE AS WELL AS MY CHILDREN'S LIFE IN DANGER. THIS ISN'T ALL, MY RPM METER WAS GOING ALL OVER THE PLACE. THEN MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, AND OF COURSE I HAD TO TAKE IT TO SEE WHAT CODES IT PULLS UP. MY CERTIFIED MECHANIC REVIEWED AND TESTED THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE WHICH IS BAD. YES, THIS COULD'VE BEEN WORSE BUT GM HAS PUT MORE THAN MYSELF IN DANGER BUT ALSO ANYONE WHO'S DRIVING THESE VEHICLES AND THEY EITHER WON'T GO OR JUST SHUT OFF.

PLEASE ISSUE RECALL FOR THE WAVE PLATE. I WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED TODAY BECAUSE MY VEHICLE WOULD NOT GET UP TO SPEED. THIS IS GOING TO CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. I WILL NOT BUY ANOTHER GM VEHICLE. WAVE PLATE IS KNOWN TO BE FAULTY IN SATURN OUTLOOK, CHEVY TRAVERSE, AND GMC ACADIA. THIS CAUSES TRANSMISSION NOT TO SHIFT PROPERLY AND REV AT 4K RPMS. TRANSMISSION SOLONOID 1 GETS STUCK OPEN PER CODE PLEASE INFORM WHEN RECALL IS ISSUED. THIS HAPPENS PERIODICALLY WHETHER STOPPED OR IN MOTION. THIS HAS HAPPENED 20+ TIMES SINCE SEPTEMBER 2015.

THE VEHICLE WAS SHIFTED INTO DRIVE, BUT FAILED TO MOVE. WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, ALL OF THE WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED AND THE ENGINE STALLED. WHILE DRIVING DURING LOW TEMPERATURES, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, BUT THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS OIL IN THE ENGINE AIR FLOW. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 172,000.

I NOTICED THIS SOUND WHEN STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT AND THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN. AS I BEGAN TO ACCELERATE, I NOTICED THE VEHICLE WAS HAVING A TOUGH TIME GETTING OUT OF 1ST GEAR. THIS IS THE SECOND ISSUE WITH THE TRANSMISSION IN 22 MONTHS. BACK IN NOVEMBER OF 2013, I HAD THE WAV PLATE REPLACED AT A COST OF $2,600.00. THE DEALERSHIP NOW IS TELLING ME I NEED A WHOLE NEW TRANSMISSION AT A COST OF $4,000.00. GM DID REIMBURSE ME FOR MY FIRST TRANSMISSION ISSUE, BUT WITHOUT A REIMBURSEMENT, I WOULD BE LOOKING AT SPENDING NEARLY $6,600.00 OVER THE COURSE OF 22 MONTHS FOR TRANSMISSION-RELATED ISSUES. NO REASONABLE PERSON WOULD EXPECT TO PAY THAT MUCH MONEY IN SUCH SHORT OF A TIME PERIOD FOR (2) SEPARATE, TRANSMISSION RELATED ISSUES.

DEALER CONCLUDED THAT TIMING CHAIN IS INTACT AND SOME METAL PARTS BROKE. HE RECOMMENDED TO RPLACE THE ENGINE AT A COST OF $7700. GM HAD ADDITIONAL PROTECTION FOR TIMING CHAIN ISSUES FOR SATURN OUTLOOK XR 2007 MODEL UP TO 10YEARS FROM THE VEHICLE PLACED IN SERVICE OR 120,000 MILES. MY VEHICLE HAD ONLY 75654 MILES AND EIGHT YEARS IN SERVICE. GM DEALERSHIP DECLINED TO HONOR THE GM WARRANTY. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO ANOTHER MECHANIC, HE OPENED THE ENGINE AND SAW TIMING CHAIN WAS IN-FACT BROKE AND IT CAUSED FOR VEHICLE TO LOST COMPRESSION. I PAID $4700 FOR THE REPAIRS. AFTER SPEAKING TO THE OWNER OF THE TRANSMISSION SHOP AND DOING SOME ONLINE INVESTIGATING, IT APPEARS THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE WAVE PLATE IN THEIR SATURN OUTLOOK OR GM ACADIA. I FEEL THE WAVE PLATE IS DEFECTIVE AND THAT A RECALL SHOULD BE PUT IN PLACE SO NO ONE ELSE GETS HURT FROM THEIR TRANSMISSION GIVING OUT ON THEM. *JS

THE RECALL STATED: THIS LETTER IS INTENDED TO MAKE YOU AWARE THAT SOME 2007 MODEL YEAR SATURN OUTLOOK VEHICLES MAY DEVELOP A POWER STEERING PUMP WEAR CONDITION THAT CAN CAUSE AN INTERMITTENT DROP OF POWER STEERING HYDRAULIC PRESSURE THAT WILL CAUSE REDUCED OR LOSS OF STEERING ASSIST. THE VEHICLE MAY REVERT TO MANUAL STEERING WHICH REQUIRES GREATER DRIVER EFFORT, PARTICULARLY AT LOW VEHICLE SPEEDS. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP IN DECEMBER. THEY WERE UNABLE TO LOOK AT THE VEHICLE BECAUSE I DID NOT HAVE AN APPOINTMENT. I TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK YESTERDAY. AT FIRST THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE TRIED TO TELL ME THAT THE LETTER WAS MORE OF "IF YOU WANT TO BUY A WARRANTY". I INFORMED HIM THAT THE STEERING WHEEL HAS BEEN MAKING A 'WHIRRING' SOUND AND TO INSPECT IT. OF COURSE THEY CALLED WITHIN AN HOUR TO STATE THAT THE POWER STEERING PUMP WAS BAD. THE VEHICLE ALSO NEEDED TO HAVE THE RACK AND PINION REPLACED, FRONT STRUTS REPLACED, AND A WHEEL ALIGNMENT. THE COST TO ME WAS $1800. ALL OF THIS IS A RESULT OF A DEFECTIVE GM PRODUCT. THIS SHOULD BE COVERED BY THEM. SHAME ON GM. I AM AWARE THAT THERE IS A GM RECALL ON THE 2009 AND NEWER TRAVERSE, ACADIA, AND ENCLAVE MODELS. THE SATURN MODELS SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THIS TOO. *TR

WE TRIED SEVERAL TIMES TO RESTART. EACH TIME THE TRANSMISSION HELD UP UNTIL 30-35 MPH THEN SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL AND STOPPED. WE HAD THE OUTLOOK TOWED TO FNA TRANSMISSION IN WAKEFIELD, MA WHO CONFIRMED THAT THE WAVE PLATE FAILED AND SHREDDED THE REST OF THE TRANSMISSION...NOTHING COULD BE SAVED. WHILE I AM HAPPY NO ONE WAS HURT, A TRANSMISSION SHOULD LAST MORE THAN 104K MILES, WHICH IS OF COURSE OUT OF WARRANTY PERIOD. THE REPAIR COST $3000. WHY IS THERE NO RECALL ON THIS KNOWN ISSUE? CAR WAS USED FOR 20 MINUTE ROUND TRIP COMMUTE TO WORK, LOCAL SHOPPING. OCCASIONALLY A 4 HOUR ROUND TRIP RECREATIONAL GET AWAY. NO TOWING OR HAULING. LESS THAN AVERAGE DRIVING. AT THE TRANSMISSION SPECIALTY SHOP, SCAN CODE 0989 TRANSMISSION FLUID PRESSURE SWITCH, SHIFT SOLENOIDS STUCK ON. ADVISED WE NEED A NEW TRANNY, AS HE ALSO FOUND METAL PARTICLES IN TRANSMISSION FLUID. ADVISED 4 THOUSAND DOLLARS IS WHAT IT WOULD COST TO REPLACE TRANSMISSION. HERE WE GO AGAIN SAME PROBLEM THAT GM FIXED 2 YEARS AGO 22000 MILES AGO. THE DEALER WHO ORIGINALLY DID REPAIRS 2 YEARS AGO SAID OUT OF WARRANTY NOW YOU HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET. CALLED GM HEAD QUARTERS. THEY HAD CAR PICKED UP BY TOW TRUCK FROM TRANNY SPECIALIST SHOP, AND TOWED 30 MILES AWAY TO CHASE CHEVROLET 30 MINUTES AWAY. THEY HAVE HAD MY CAR ALMOST 2 WEEKS NOW. THEY FINALLY CALL ME DAY NUMBER 12 TO TELL ME THEY FOUND CODE 0989 AND WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE, AT A COST OF 800 DOLLARS TO ME AND GM WOULD PICK UP THE OTHER 400 DOLLARS, A 1200 DOLLAR REPAIR. THEY SAID IT WAS INHERENT WITH THIS TRANSMISSION AND SENT ME ON MY WAY. AS DANGEROUS AS THIS WAS TO SEND A CUSTOMER AWAY WITH A CAR THAT ROLLS BACKWARDS. TODAY THE TRANSMISSION FAILED WITHOUT NOTICE. I BACKED OUT OF A PARKING SPOT IN THE LOWES PARKING LOT AND THE CAR SHUTTERED VIOLENTLY. I MADE IT TO THE CORNER ABOUT A HALF MILE AWAY BEFORE THE CAR SIMPLY WOULD NOT MOVE. I HAD IT TOWED TO LUNGHAMER GMC AT 5825 HIGHLAND ROAD IN WATERFORD MICHIGAN. I PULLED THE ENGINE CODE MYSELF AND HAD P2723, P0700 I AM FINDING EVERYWHERE ON THE WEB THROUGH HUNDREDS OF FORUMS THAT THIS TRANSMISSION IS A REAL ISSUE DUE TO THE DEFECTIVE CHINA MADE WAVE PLATE. THIS IS A DEFECTIVE PART THAT IMPLODES INTERNALLY THEN TAKES OUT THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION. THIS IS AN EXPENSIVE $4000.00 REPAIR , REPLACEMENT. I WAITED APPROXIMATELY 30-45 MINUTES, TURNED ON THE CAR, PUT IT ON DRIVE AND NOTHING. I THEN PLACED IT IN NEUTRAL AND IT BEGAN TO DRIVE, I PLACED IT IN DRIVE AND IT BEGAN TO REVERSE. I WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT HOME AFTER ALMOST A 2 HOURS? DRIVE AT 25-30 MPH BECAUSE IT WOULD NOT GO ANY FASTER THAN THAT. DAYS AFTER, THE TRUCK SEEMED FINE. I TOOK IT AGAIN TO ED MORSE GMC IN TAMPA WHO INFORMED MANY CODES POPULATED (AGAIN) BUT WAS IN HISTORY. THE MECHANIC STATED TO COME BACK IN TWO WEEKS TO HAVE IT RETESTED. DOCUMENTS WERE PROVIDED TO ME. EVERY CODE WAS PART OF THE POWERTRAIN/ TRANSMISSION. I DIDN'T GET THE CHANCE TO BRING IT BACK AS SCHEDULED BECAUSE A FEW DAYS AFTER; FEB 22, I HEADED FOR DRILL (NATION GUARD) AND THE TRUCK STARTED TO SHUT DOWN WHERE A SEMI ALMOST REARED ME TO DEATH. AFTER THE SERVICE THE GAS MILEAGE WENT DOWN AND NOTICED THE CHANGE OIL CALCULATOR WENT DOWN FASTER. NOT A BIG DEAL I CHANGE MY OIL AT 5,000 MILES WITH SYNTHETIC BLEND. WIFE TOO CAR AND AFTER SHOPPING THE CAR WOULD NOT START. FOUND OUT THAT THE TIMING CHAIN SNAPPED AND BROKE NUMEROUS PIECES IN THE ENGINE. FOUND OUT AFTER TAKING TO THE MECHANIC THAT THE REPROGRAM ACTUAL ALLOWED MORE STRETCH IN THE TIMING CHAIN THEN THE FACTORY SETTING. WE THEN MADE A VERY SLOW DRIVE HOME. AFTER READING UP ON VARIOUS FORUMS I DISCOVERED THAT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE GM LAMBDA MODELS AND FORUMS AND THEY HAVE HAD A FIX OUT FOR IT FOR SOME TIME. WE PURCHASED THIS 2007 OUTLOOK BACK IN APRIL OF THIS YEAR. THE DEALERSHIP GAVE US A SHEET THAT PURPORTED TO INDICATE THAT THE VEHICLE HAD GONE THROUGH A FULL INSPECTION AND WAS CLEAN. WE LIVE IN NORTH FLORIDA AND HAVE HAD A LOT OF RAIN LATELY. EVERY TIME IT RAINS, WATER GETS INTO THE DOORS AND INTO THE VEHICLE ITSELF - WE CAN HEAR IT SLOSHING AROUND IN THE DOORS AND IN THE DASH OF THE VEHICLE - AND THERE WILL BE WATER, AS MUCH AS HALF AN INCH, ON THE FLOORBOARDS OF THE VEHICLE. THIS IS WREAKING HAVOC WITH THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, AND SOMETIMES THERE WILL BE THE SMELL OF SOMETHING BURNING. THE FANS, PARTICULARLY IN THE BACK OF THE VEHICLE, ARE RUNNING INTERMITTENTLY; THERE IS A CRACKLING NOISE THAT COMES THROUGH THE RADIO SPEAKERS EVEN WHEN THE RADIO SYSTEM IS TURNED OFF, AND THERE IS SO MUCH MOISTURE IN THE VEHICLE THAT THE WINDOWS FOG, MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO SEE, AND THE FOG IS DIFFICULT TO CLEAR EVEN WITH THE DEFROST SYSTEM BECAUSE IT'S NOT BEING CAUSED BY COOL TEMPERATURES BUT RATHER BY THE MOISTURE IN THE VEHICLE. YESTERDAY, I DROVE IT TO WALMART AND THEN HOME AFTER WORK WITH NO PROBLEMS, PARKED IT IN OUR DRIVEWAY, AND DIDN'T LEAVE THE HOUSE THE REST OF THE DAY; THIS MORNING, WE WENT OUTSIDE, AND WHEN MY HUSBAND PUT THE KEY IN THE IGNITION TO START THE CAR, IT WOULDN'T START AT ALL, AND THEN HE COULDN'T GET HIS KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION; WE HAD TO LOCK THE DOORS MANUALLY AND LEAVE IT THERE WITH THE KEYS IN IT. I JUST PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. I WENT OUT OF TOWN WITH THIS VEHICLE AND HAD TO STOP AT SOME PLACE I DIDN'T KNOW. THEY HOOKED THE VEHICLE AND FOUND OUT IT WAS A CYLINDER MISFIRE. WITHIN THE FIRST 2 WEEKS OF PURCHASING THE VEHICLE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. WHEN FOUND IT OUT WAS A CYLINDER MISFIRE I TRIED CALLING THE DEALERSHIP AND LETTING THEM KNOW WHAT HAPPENED WITH THE CAR. THE PLACE THAT CHECKED CLEARED THE SERVICE LIGHT. LESS THAN TWO WEEKS LATER WENT TO DEALERSHIP AND WAS INFORMED THAT THEY WOULD NOT CHECK IT BECAUSE THE LIGHT WASN'T ON. IN JULY, A FEW MONTHS OF HAVING THE VEHICLE THAN I HAD THE STABILITY TRACK COME ON AS WELL AS THE BRAKE LIGHT. WENT TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY CHECKED AND TOLD ME THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT BUT THE BRAKE FLUID WAS HALF EMPTY. THEY PUT SOME BRAKE FLUID IN VEHICLE AND TOLD ME TO GO TO GM. GM TOLD ME THAT IT WAS THE MASTER BOOSTER CYLINDER WITHOUT LOOKING AT THE VEHICLE AND TOLD ME IT WOULD BE LIKE ALMOST $700 TO FIX IT. SO LESS THAN TWO WEEKS GO BY AND I DROVE THE VEHICLE AND IT WAS HAVING A HARD TIME BEFORE THIS WITH THE CAR GETTING SOME GAS. BEGINNING OF AUG, I START DRIVING IT TO CHURCH AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAR WAS BARELY MOVING. IT WAS IN RPMS OF 4-5 AND I WAS ONLY GOING 60 MPH, TRYING TOO. I HAD MY NIECE AND NEPHEW IN THE CAR AND THEY NEW SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH THE CAR. THE CAR WOULD BARELY GO IN REVERSE AT THIS TIME. NOW THE CAR WILL NOT GO IN REVERSE AT ALL. THE RPMS WOULD INCREASE WITHOUT VEHICLE ACCELERATIONS AND SOMETIMES THE VEHICLE WOULD JERK WITH ACCELERATION. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO OPERATE AND MY WIFE WAS ABLE TO COMPLETE THE TRIP. THE PROBLEM WAS OBVIOUSLY RELATED TO THE TRANSMISSION. WHEN I DELIVERED THE VEHICLE TO THE TRANSMISSION CLINIC (COLORADO SPRINGS) THE TRANSMISSION GUY TOLD ME WHAT THE SYMPTOMS WERE AND THE PROBLEM. I DIDN'T HAVE TO SAY ANYTHING. HE EVEN QUOTED ME AN ACCURATE ESTIMATE OF THE REPAIR WITHOUT LOOKING AT ANYTHING YET. IT COST ME $3200 FOR A VEHICLE WITH 84,000 MILES ON IT. THAT DOESN'T INCLUDE THE LETTERS AND SERVICES FOR THE WINDSHIELD WASHER HEATER, THE AIR BAG SENSORS AND THE TIMING CHAIN ISSUE. *TR

THIS HAPPENED FRIDAY. MY WIFE FOLLOWED ME ON MONDAY AND WE DROPPED IT OFF AT THE MECHANICS. I DID DO SOME RESEARCH OVER THE WEEKEND AND FOUND THAT THE WAVE PLATE ON THE 2007 OUTLOOKS WAS A HUGE PROBLEM. SURE ENOUGH WHEN THE MECHANIC HOOKED IT UP TO THE MACHINE, THAT'S WHAT CODE CAME UP. ONCE I GOT THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP, I WAS INFORMED THIS WAS VERY COMMON FOR THIS VEHICLE. IT TURNED OUT TO BE THE WAVE PLATE HAD BUSTED CAUSING MULTIPLE OTHER TRANSMISSION DAMAGES. EVEN THOUGH MY VEHICLE WAS UNDER THE 100,000 MILE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY PROVIDED BY GM, I WAS OVER BY A FEW MONTHS TIME WISE. NOW IT IS JUNE 2013 AND I AM AT JUST A FEW MILES UNDER THE 12,000 MILE WARRANTY ON THE REPAIR WORK DONE LAST OCTOBER AND I ENCOUNTERED A VERY SIMILAR INCIDENT. I INCHED MY WAY DOWN THE REST OF THE VERY WINDY AND DANGEROUS HIGHWAY TO MY HOME AS IT WAS SATURDAY AND THE DEALERSHIP HAD CLOSED 20 MINUTES EARLIER. ONSTAR AGAIN GAVE ME THE SAME DIAGNOSTIC CODES AS BEFORE TOO. ON MONDAY, I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE MANAGER WHO SENT A TOW TRUCK TO PICK MY OUTLOOK UP. AFTER NOT HEARING FROM THEM, I CALLED THIS AFTERNOON (TUESDAY) TO SEE WHAT WAS GOING ON. I WAS INFORMED THIS TIME IT WAS DIFFERENT PARTS OF THE TRANSMISSION AND THEY WOULD NOT BE COVERING THE REPAIRS. SHE ALSO STATED THERE WOULD BE A CHARGE FOR THE TOWING! THESE ARE ALL ISSUES COMMON TO ALL OUTLOOK, ACADIA, AND TRAVERSE OWNERS. I FINALLY GOT A CALLBACK FROM GM 3 DAYS AFTER I FILED THE COMPLAINT AND THEY 'OFFERED' TO PAY FOR ROUGHLY 25% OF THE COST OF THE REPAIR WITH ME FOOTING THE REST. TOO LATE. WAS ABLE TO LIMP CAR DOWN OTHER SIDE OF HILL AND PARK IN MT. BRIGHTON PARKING LOT AND CALLED AAA TO TOW THE VEHICLE. NO FLAMES DETECTED. SINCE I WAS NOW STUCK IN THE DRIVEWAY, I CALLED FOR A TOW TRUCK, WHICH TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY DIAGNOSED THE WAVE PLATE (KNOWN ISSUE) OR THE TRANSMISSION (KNOWN ISSUE). THIS COULD HAVE BEEN AN ACCIDENT-CAUSING ISSUE IF I HAD BEEN ON THE HIGHWAY OR IF THE TRAFFIC CIRCLE HAD BEEN MUCH BUSIER. I USE THIS VEHICLE TO TRANSPORT MY CHILDREN. WE WERE PLANNING TO TAKE THIS VEHICLE ON A WEEKEND TRIP TO THE MOUNTAINS (4 HOUR DRIVE ONE WAY). HE TURNED AROUND AND CAME HOME TO GET HIS VEHICLE TO TAKE THE KIDS TO SCHOOL. WE DECIDED IT WAS NOT A GOOD IDEA TO TRY TAKING THE SATURN TO THE MOUNTAINS. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND WE WENT TO ADVANCED AUTO PARTS TO HAVE THEM CHECK IT. IT SAID THAT THE TRANSMISSION SHIFT SOLENOID WAS FAULTY. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT OFF ON THE FOLLOWING MONDAY. WE WERE HOPING IT WAS JUST A FLUKE. LESS THAN 2 WEEKS LATER, MARCH 20, 2013 I WAS DRIVING THE SATURN ON MY LUNCH BREAK AND WHEN I WENT TO ACCELERATE AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT (WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN) IT WOULD NOT SHIFT UP. AND WAS STUCK IN 1ST GEAR. LUCKILY I NAVIGATED ACROSS THE DOUBLE LANE TRAFFIC INTO A PARKING AREA AND TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF FOR A MINUTE AND STARTED IT BACK AND THEN IT DID FINE. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ALSO CAME ON AND WE CONTACTED A GM DEALER THAT HAD WORKED ON IT JUST MONTHS BEFORE FOR AN OIL LEAK AND THEY WANTED TO LOOK AT IT THE VERY NEXT DAY. ONCE THEY LOOKED AT IT THEY SAID THE TRANSMISSION SHIFT MODULE WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND THAT IT WOULD COST $1237.00. MY SATURN ONLY HAS 85,000 MILES ON IT. IT SHOULD NOT BE HAVING TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. THE WARRANTY JUST WENT OUT ON IT ON JULY 31, 2012, SO OF COURSE GM WILL NOT COVER THE REPAIR. I HAVE SEEN THAT THIS PROBLEM IS HAPPENING ALOT WITH THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE. IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE SOMEONE GETS SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED. THE PARTICULAR ISSUE WITH MY VEHICLE WHICH IS SOME SEAL ON THE BACK OF THE MODULE TO HOLD THE PRESSURE IS NO LONGER COVERED AND IT WILL BE A NEARLY $1300 REPAIR!!! ACCORDING TO THE DEALER THIS IS A RECALLED PART ON SEVERAL MODELS FROM THE GM BRAND BUT IT IS NOT RECALLED ON MY 2007 OUTLOOK! MY 2007 SATURN OUTLOOK SUFFERED COMPLETE TRANSMISSION FAILURE AT ONLY 59,700 MILES. THE INCIDENT OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING ACROSS TOWN AT A RATE OF 25 MPH. CAR HAS BEEN BABIED SINCE WE GOT IT. BASICALLY AN ALL-WHEEL DRIVE MINI-VAN. NO OFF-ROAD ACTIVITIES. DID NOT USE IT TO PULL ANY TRAILERS OR OTHER VEHICLES. WAS A GREAT CAR UNTIL THIS OCCURRED. WARRANTY EXPIRED IN SEPT. OF 2012. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO SAID THAT THE "WAVE PLATES" HAD BROKEN AND CAUSED THE TRANSMISSION TO FAIL. I AM NOT A MECHANIC AND DO NOT KNOW MUCH ABOUT CARS, BUT I CONTACTED GM AND WAS TOLD THAT I HAD TO HAVE THE VEHICLE INSPECTED BY A CERTIFIED GM REPAIR SPECIALIST. SO, I HAD IT TOWED AGAIN TO A GM REPAIR SHOP AND THEY CONFIRMED THAT IT WAS THE WAVE PLATES THAT HAD FAILED. THEY ALSO INFORMED ME THAT THE WAVE PLATES WERE A UNIVERSAL PROBLEM FOR THIS MAKE AND MODEL OF CAR - THEY HAD REPAIRED NUMEROUS VEHICLES WITH THE SAME ISSUE... ALL TRANSMISSION FAILURES AT OR BEFORE 75,000 MILES. IN THEIR OPINION THIS WAS A DEFECTIVE PART AND THEY THOUGHT GM SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL. NO CAR SHOULD HAVE A COMPLETED TRANSMISSION FAILURE ON A VEHICLE THAT EARLY! GM CONTACTED THE REPAIR SHOP I WAS WORKING WITH AND INFORMED THEM THAT BECAUSE MY WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED, THE BEST THEY COULD DO WAS TO OFFER ME A "CO-PAYMENT" OF $1500 TO "REPAIR" THE TRANSMISSION. IF I WANTED TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION I WOULD HAVE TO PAY THE FULL COST OF $4500 OUT OF POCKET. I OPTED TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION REPAIRED FOR $1500. I FELT IT WAS MY ONLY OPTION. CASH IS TIGHT AND $4500 OUT OF POCKET IS WAY TOO MUCH FOR WHAT IS OBVIOUSLY A DEFECTIVE PART. I DID NOT FEEL I SHOULD HAVE TO PAY ANYTHING AT ALL - GM BUILT A BAD VEHICLE. IN JUNE OF 2011 MY SATURN SUDDENLY STARTED STICKING IN 2ND GEAR ON AN INTERSTATE HIGHWAY. THERE WERE 37000 MILES N THIS VEHICLE. I WAS ABLE TO EXIT AND MAKE IT TO A GM DEALERSHIP WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A BROKEN 3-5WAVE PLATE WHICH WAS REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY. NOW 15 MONTHS LATER I WAS DRIVING AT 45 MILES PER HOUR AND THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY REVVED TO 5000RPM AND SLOWED TO ABOUT 10 MILES PER HOUR. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A GM DEALERSHIP AND THE CONTROL MODULE AND SOLENOID VALVE NEED REPLACEMENT. THERE ARE NOW 52500 MILES ON THIS VEHICLE. WHILE TRAVELING HOME FROM A VACATION, MADE A BRIEF STOP, ONCE THE CAR REACHED 35 MPH THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPED AND WE LOST ALL ABILITY TO ACCELERATE. ENGINE RPMS WOULD INCREASE WITH NO ACCELERATION, ENGINE TEMPERATURE SPIKED. COASTED TO A STOP ON SIDE OF ROAD AND CHECKED FLUID LEVELS.AFTER RESTARTING, HAD LOST 3RD, 5TH AND REVERSE. ISSUE BEGAN AS A JERKY MOVEMENT IN REVERSE. A FEW DAYS LATER, HIGH ENGINE RPMS WERE NOTICED DURING ACCELERATION WHICH EVENTUALLY LED TO THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT BEING LIT AND THE TRANSMISSION BEING DISENGAGED. WHILE DRIVING WITH MY FAMILY ON THE HIGHWAY, WE BEGAN TO EXPERIENCE UNUSUAL GEAR SHIFTING. IT FELT AS THOUGH THE VEHICLE DIDN'T KNOW WHICH GEAR TO BE IN. WE MADE IT HOME, AND THEN A FEW HOURS LATER I STARTED THE CAR AND THE TRANSMISSION WAS MAKING THE SOUND OF A FAN BEING SPUN WAY TOO FAST. WE STARTED TO DRIVE AND THE GEAR SHIFTING WAS AGAIN ERRATIC. AFTER STOPPING TO CHECK IT THEN GETTING BACK ON THE ROAD WE NO LONGER HAD THE FIRST 3 GEARS. I WOULD HAVE TO PRESS ON THE GAS PEDDLE ALMOST TO THE FLOOR TO GET THE CAR MOVING AGAIN. I CALLED GM AND THEY SAID TAKE IT TO A DEALERSHIP FOR A DIAGNOSES [OUR LOCAL DEALERSHIP IS HORRIBLE]. THEY SAID IF IT'S FOUND TO BE MANUFACTURER THEY "MAY" BE ABLE TO HELP US, BUT THAT OUR POWER-TRAIN WARRANTY EXPIRED THE MONTH BEFORE SO THERE WOULDN'T BE ANY GUARANTEES. I FOLLOWED MY GUT AND DECIDED TO REMAIN A PERSON AND NOT A NUMBER BY TAKING IT TO A LOCAL TRANSMISSION REPAIR SHOP WITH A GREAT REPUTATION. THEY CALLED THIS MORNING AND SAID I'LL BE NEEDING A NEW TRANSMISSION. A FEW MINUTES LATER THE GM REP CALLED AND SAID THEY WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO HELP ME OUT (HE LOOKED INTO IT FOR ME). ON 08/13/2011, I WAS TRAVELING ON NORTHBOUND I-95 WHEN A LOUD BOOM OCCURED AND THE CAR BEGAN LURCHING OUT OF CONTROL BRINGING THE TIRES OFF OF THE GROUND. I MANAGED TO GET THE VEHICLE UNDER CONTROL AND DISCOVERED THE BOLTS ON THE DRIVESHAFT HAD LOOSENED AND FELL OFF, RESULTING IN THE DRIVESHAFT STRIKING THE PAVEMENT "LIKE A CATAPULT" AND OBSERVED THE DRIVESHAFT LAYING UNDER THE CAR, DISABILING THE VEHICLE IN TRAFFIC WITH NO CONTROL. HAD MY INFANT AND TWO OTHER CHILDREN IN THE CAR AND THEY WERE FLUNG ABOUT DURING THE INCIDENT. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THE BOLTS ON THE DRIVESHAFT HAVE LOOSENED AND FALLEN OFF, RENDERING THE VEHICLE INOPERABALE AND CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO LOSE CONTROL WHEN THE DRIVESHAFT STRIKES THE PAVEMENT. THE LAST ONE (04/10) OCCURED AT A LOW SPEED BUT STILL CAUSED THE TIRES TO LEAVE THE GROUND. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOUR TIMES WHERE THE DEALER REPLACED THE CLUTCH PLATE AND OTHER DAMAGED PARTS. THE TRANSMISSION SEALS AND SENSOR WERE ALSO REPLACED DUE TO A LEAK. THE DEALER ALSO CLEANED METAL SHAVINGS FROM THE TRANSMISSION TWICE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AT THE MANUFACTURER EXPENSE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 88,475 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 95,972.

I HAVE EXPERIENCED ONLY ISSUES ALL YEAR WITH MY 2007 SATURN OUTLOOK. IT HAS 55,000 MILES AND IN JUNE 2010 THE WIRING SHORT CIRCUITED BEHIND THE STEERING WHEEL CAUSING THE THEFT SECURITY LOCK SYSTEM TO GO INTO EFFECT ASSUMING THE CAR WAS BEING HOT-WIRED. IT COST ME OVER $300 TO FIX AT THE DEALER AND HAD TO BE TOWED. THEN THE DEALER SAID MY INSIDE FUSE BOX WAS COMPLETELY CORRODED FROM WATER AND THEY WOULD NEED TO FIX THE LEAK MY SUNROOF WAS CAUSING. THE DEALER HAS MADE 6 ATTEMPTS TO FIX AND I JUST PICKED UP MY CAR THIS MORNING, HOPEFULLY AFTER THE FINAL ATTEMPT. NOW MY BREAKS ARE CAUSING ISSUES, THE BREAK PEDAL SOFTENS AND GOES DOWN TO ALMOST THE FLOOR WHEN PRESSED EVERY 4TH OR 5TH TIME AND IT IS DRINKING BRAKE FLUID, I NEED TO TAKE IT THIS WEEKEND TO CHECK FOR A LEAK. NOT TO MENTION MY POWER STEERING IS MAKING LOUD WHINING SOUNDS EVERY TIME THAT I MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL. OH, AND MY PASSENGER SIDE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT HAS GONE OUT A FEW TIMES AND MY HUSBAND HAS HAD TO ACCESS THE BACK OF IT TO REPLACE IT BUT IT CONTINUES TO GO OUT. THE VEHICLE IS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WOULD NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,600 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 50,000.

FURTHERMORE, A STRUT SPONTANEOUSLY BECAME BENT, WHICH CAUSED THE STEERING WHEEL TO JERK AT A 90 DEGREE ANGLE. THE DEALER REPAIRED THE STRUT. THE CONTACT SMELLED GASOLINE MULTIPLE TIMES COMING FROM HER VEHICLE. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO IDENTIFY THE ORIGIN OF THE SMELL AND COULD NOT ASSIST. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 26,500 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 854.

I OWN A 2007 SATURN OUTLOOK AND AM VERY DISAPPOINTED ON THE SHIFTING OF THE TRANSMISSION INTO HIGHER GEARS AT LOW SPEEDS. IF I AM TRAVELING AROUND 45 TO 50 MPH THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTED INTO 6TH GEAR, DROPPING THE TACHOMETER AROUND 1100 TO 1200 RPMS. THIS, IN TURN, PUT A STRAIN ON THE ENGINE, AND WHEN THE ACCELERATOR WAS STEPPED ON, THE CAR RUMBLED AND THE FLOORD BOARDS ACTUALLY VIBRATED. IT WAS ANNOYING, AND IT UPSET ME THAT THE MANUFACTURER WILL NOT CORRECT THE SHIFTING PROBLEM BECAUSE IT WILL CHANGE THE FUEL ECONOMY OF THE VEHICLE. *AK
