HVAC blower motor stopped working via the control knob. Through online forums & repair guides, I did some troubleshooting to determine which component I might need to order (i.e. fuse, relay, blower motor assembly, blower resistor, etc). During that research, many others noted that the blower resistor is known to become defective, and that melting of the resistor & the harness connector are common. This is exactly the situation I found, and it is not at all unreasonable to conclude that this could have easily resulted in a fire. These same parts are shared by the Pontiac Solstice and the Hummer H3 (for which, I believe, a recall was issued). The parts to fix this problem are not overly expensive & readily available -- and the replacement process is not difficult. What IS difficult is to think this is a known problem which can (& has) caused vehicle fires, and yet no recall or official notice has been issued to warn vehicle owners.

HVAC CONNECTOR WIRE FAILURE. GM PART 25797383. KNOWN ISSUE AND RECALL WITH HUMMER H3 AND REPORTED ISSUE WITH SATURN SKY AND PONTIAC SOLSTICE. 2007 SATURN SKY REDLINE PRESENTED WITH HVAC BLOWER FAILURE. UPON INSPECTION AN OVERHEATED, MELTED AND BLACKENED WIRING HARNESS DETECTOR WAS IDENTIFIED AS THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. RESEARCH CONFIRMED THAT THIS IS A FREQUENT PROBLEM WITH THIS CONNECTOR. GM HAS REPLACED THE PART WITH PART NUMBER 25949869. A RECALL FOR THE SATURN SKY OR PONTIAC SOLSTICE HAS NOT BEEN ISSUED.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 SATURN SKY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED PER AN UNKNOWN RECALL REGARDING THE IGNITION, BUT THE REPAIR WAS INSUFFICIENT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE KEY BECAME STUCK IN THE IGNITION. THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO PLACE THE VEHICLE IN REVERSE AND WAIT 45 MINUTES TO AN HOUR BEFORE THE KEY COULD BE REMOVED. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE BATTERY WAS DRAINED OF POWER. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE RECALL REPAIR WAS COMPLETED PRIOR TO THE CONTACT PURCHASING THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 148,000.

AFTER A GM IGNITION RECALL ON SATURN SKY--WE RECEIVED NOTICE AND TOOK OUR CAR TO THE GM SHOP TO DO THE WORK. HOWEVER NOW THE "AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT" STAYS ON---WE DID MUCH RESEARCH AND REPLACED THE PASSENGER SIDE SEAT CUSHION AND SENSOR-----THIS DID NOT RESULT IN THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT GOING OFF--WE TOOK IT TO THE GM DEALER TO DO A DIAGNOSTIC TO SEE WHY THE SEAT/SENSOR REPLACEMENT DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM AND THEY STATE THE SEAT IS PROPERLY INSTALLED AND IT IS NOT CAUSING THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT ISSUE---BUT THEY DID NOT TELL US WHAT WAS THE DIAGNOSED PROBLEM. MANY SATURN SKY OWNERS HAVE WRITTEN TO YOU AND ARE VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THEIR FAMILIES, THE FACT THEY CANNOT PASS STATE REQUIRED SAFETY INSPECTIONS; WHICH RENDERS THEIR GM PRODUCT COMPLETELY USELESS. GM HAS NEVER RESPONDED TO THESE ISSUES FOR SATURN SKY OWNERS OR FOR PONTIAC SOLSTICE OWNERS AND THE NHTSA LIKEWISE HAVE NOT RESPONDED TO THIS DANGEROUS ISSUE, DESPITE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS. EVERYTIME I START MY VEHICLE I GET THE FOLLOWING MESSAGES ON THE CONTROL PANEL. SERVICE AIRBAG, SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL, ESC OFF/DISABLED. THERE HAS BEEN NO ACCIDENTS ON THE VEHICLE BUT LACK OF ESC MAKES CONTROLLING THE RWD PERFORMANCE VEHICLE DIFFICULT, IN ADDITION THE SERVICE AIRBAG MESSAGE IS FURTHER REASON FOR CONCERN.

THE WIRING FOR THE HVAC BLOWER MOTOR MELTED AT THE CONNECTION TO THE RESISTOR PACK THAT CONTROLS THE BLOWER MOTOR SPEED. YOU COULD SMELL MELTING PLASTIC. LUCKILY THIS DID NOT START THE WIRING HARNESS ON FIRE AS THE FUSE FOR THE CIRCUIT DID NOT OPEN.
