The contact owns a 2008 Saturn Vue. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle lost power steering functionality. The contact heard an abnormal grinding sound coming from under the dashboard on the passenger’s side. The contact stated that the abnormal grinding sound was also heard while the gear shifter was in park(P). There was no warning light illuminated. The contact inspected the vehicle and noticed that there was power steering fluid leaking from the vehicle. The contact added power steering fluid to the vehicle; however, the power steering fluid was leaking while driving. The contact stated that the failure had been reoccurring increasingly. The contact stated that the power steering fluid leaked out entirely after driving for a short distance. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the power steering fluid was leaking. The contact stated that a clamp was added and the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

2008 Saturn vue AWD. Steering wheel is very difficult to turn while driving. There is a lot of resistance. No leaking fluid visible and no visible loss of fluid levels. Transmission was torn down/repaired in 2017 for metal bits present at 95,000 (approximate) miles. It is currently at 107,600 miles. Transmission gets stuck in lower gear and rpms Rev up without the vehicle gaining acceleration. The tear down/rebuild was due to bad 3 5 wave plate also and seems to be replicating the issue again. Check engine light comes on amd goes off intermittently and cannot get issue to replicate at the mechanics. Key has also gotten stuck in the barrel. Took almost 2 hours to try numerous ways to get it to release-also had to unlock manually on the door handle, none of the lights inside worked and when it was able to get started it was very slow and deliberate. Battery appeared to be dead but after jump starting and taking to have it checked, battery was found to be fine. These are serious concerns regarding the vehicle as 1 or all could cause serious damage to the driver and others on the road. It happened again today with the high rpms and low gear/not shifting to next gear.

While driving on the freeway, something weird happened with the steering wheel & my daughter lost control of her vehicle. She crashed into the brick wall on the freeway & totaled her vehicle. She was hospitalized & had to have surgery to repair a broken jaw (in two places), fractured bone under her left eye, & other various fractures in her face. Her teeth were also knocked out of alignment on the bottom.

The contact stated that while his cousin was driving 65 MPH, the power steering locked which caused the vehicle to veer off to the left side off the highway across three lanes of traffic. The contact's cousin was able to stop the vehicle on the shoulder of the highway. The contact stated that he was uncertain if any warning lights had illuminated prior to or during the failure. After some time, his cousin was able to restart the vehicle and the power steering returned with normal operation. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that there was no recall on the vehicle. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.
IT IS HARD TO TURN WHEN IT SIT IDLE, AND THE STEERING WHEEL ONLY LOOSENES UP WHEN I PRESS ON THE GAS PEDAL, WITCH MAKES IT HARD TO PARK OR TURN WHEN AT A GREEN LIGHT OR STOP SIGN AND WHEN I REVERSE OR NEED TO GO FORWARD AND TURN A LITTLE BIT IN SMALL SPACES TO ADJUST THE PLACEMENT OF WHICH MY VEHICLE IS IN ITS TO DANGEROUS BECAUSE IN ORDER TO MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL YOU HAVE TO PRESS ON THE GAS PEDAL AND THE VEHICLE HAS TO BE IN MOTION FOR THE STEERING WHEEL TO MOVE WITHOUT HAVING TO USE SO MUCH STRENGTH TO FORCE IT TO TURN.

FOR THE LAST YEAR, WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS, AND WHILE STOPPED WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING, THE ENGINE WILL SHUT OFF. IT WON'T RESTART FOR A FEW MINUTES, SOMETIMES IT WILL RESTART ON FIRST TRY. THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM (I'M GUESSING) MAKES A LOT OF CLICKING NOISES-FROM THE ENGINE AND INSIDE THE CAR-DASHBOARD LIGHTS WILL FLICKER, ELECTRIC DOOR AND WINDOW LIGHTS ON DRIVER SIDE DOOR WILL FLICKER, AIRBAGS, HAZARDS, RADIO LIGHTS WILL ALL FLICKER, AND WINDOWS WON'T GO UP OR DOWN, OR WILL SLIGHTLY, DOOR LOCKS WON'T OPERATE, ETC. ELECTRICAL ISSUES STARTED THE SAME NIGHT I PURCHASED IT SEPT. 2017 WHEN THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM WENT HAYWIRE AND THE ENGINE DIED AND ALL THE ELECTRICAL LIGHT FLICKERED. THE DEALER HAD IT HOOKED UP TO A BATTERY CHARGER THE NEXT DAY AND THE BATTERY DIED. IN ATTEMPTS TO START THE VEHICLE, WE OPEN AND SHUT DOORS, TRY TO USE ELECTRICAL FUNCTIONS (WINDOWS, DOOR LOCKS ETC.), AND THAT SEEMS TO HELP, AS AFTER A FEW MINUTES IT WILL START, SEEMINGLY FROM OPENING AND CLOSING DOORS AND THE HATCHBACK. THE DOORS WILL NOT LOCK VIA THE DOOR LOCK/UNLOCK BUTTON ON THE KEY FOB. WHEN DOORS ARE LOCKED AND ALARM IS SET VIA KEYFOB (LIGHTS WILL FLASH AND ALARM NOISE WILL GIVE NOISE TO CONFIRM IT), HOWEVER, THE DOORS WILL OPEN BY JUST PULLING ON THE HANDLE, AND ALARM WILL GO OFF. THE STEERING HAS A LEAK THAT LEAKS OUT ALL THE FLUID IN A DAY OR TWO, AS WELL.

THE CONTACT REFUSED TO CONTINUE REPAIRING THE POWER STEERING AT HER EXPENSE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND REFUSED TO REPLACE THE POWER STEERING. ON FRIDAY OCTOBER 26, 2018, MY BATTERY DIED. I HAD IT REPLACED AFTER THE TOW COMPANY DIAGNOSED IT. IT WAS LATER DISCOVERED THAT THE ALTERNATOR WAS MALFUNCTIONG. MY CAR ON A BUSY INTERSECTION JUST DIED WITH ON COMING HEAVY TRAFFIC. I COULD NOT MOVE OR PUT IT IN NUETURAL TO MOVE IT. IT HAD TO BE JUMPED IN ORDER TO CLEAR THE DANGEROUS SITUATION. MY CONCERN THAT THE CAR JUST LOCKED UP, NO POWER OR ABILITY TO MOVE. I COULD NOT USE MY HAZARD LIGHTS. A VERY UNSAFE SITUATION. THIS COULD LOCK UP THE STEERING WHEEL WHILE MAKING A SLOW RIGHT TURN, AS WHEN EXITING A FREEWAY. WHEN THE KEY SWITCH IS IN LOCK POSITION AND KEY IS REMOVED THE WARNING CHIME STILL OCCURS WHEN THE DOOR IS OPENED.

I DID RECEIVE A NOTICE A FEW YEARS AGO BUT SINCE MY VEHICLE WAS STILL OKAY AT THE TIME, I NEVER BROUGHT IT IN. THE 3 RECALLS ARE AS FOLLOWS: 1. LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES:DOORS:LATCH, 2. POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, 3. STEERING:HYDRAULIC POWER ASSIST:HOSE, PIPING, AND CONNECTIONS. MY VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT MIKE ANDERSON CHEVROLETT DUE TO THESE ISSUES BUT THE ONLY ITEM THAT'S APPEARING COVERED IS THE TRANSMISSION. I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW MY VIN HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE RECALL WHEN ALL THE 2008 SATURN VUE'S ARE MADE WITH THE SAME PARTS. I WOULD LIKE AN INVESTIGATION TO BE MADE DUE TO MY VEHICLE FALLING UNDER THE RECALL CATEGORY BUT NOT FALLING UNDER THE CORRECT VIN NUMBER CATEGORY. MY VEHICLE CURRENTLY WON'T ALLOW ME TO GO PASS 40MPH, MY STEERING WHEEL GETS LOCKED MAKING IT HARD FOR ME TO TURN AND THERE IS A LEAK, ALSO WHEN MY LOCKS ARE UNLOCKED THE HANDLES STILL WON'T OPEN AS IF IT'S STILL LOCKED. IMMEDIATE ATTENTION IS RESPECTFULLY REQUESTED.
2008 SATURN VUE LOSES POWER STEERING ASSIST WHEN ENGINE BELOW 1000 RPM. POWER STEERING FLUID LEVEL IS OK. THERE IS ALSO A WHINING NOISE THAT BECOMES LOUDER WHEN WHEEL IS TURNED IN ANY DIRECTION. NOISE IS SOMEWHAT DEPENDENT ON RPM, AS WELL.

FIRST WAS THE PARKING BRAKE, AFTER SHOPPING IN WILLIAMSBURG MALL WE GOT BACK IN THE CAR AND WOULD NOT MOVE, THE PARKING BRAKES GOT STUCK.TOWED TO MECHANIC AND THEY RELEASED THE BRAKE SO THAT WE COULD GO BACK HOME, RICHMOND. AND TOLD ME NOT TO ENGAGE THE PARKING BRAKE TILL A MECHANIC IN MY CITY WILL FIX THE PROBLEM. ANY IDEA WHAT IS, I HAVE TO MENTION THAT 5/6 MONTH AGO I HAD PROBLEM WITH THE ABS, ALL LIGHTS CONCERNING THE BRAKES CAME ON, TRACTION AND ABS AND OTHERS, IT COST ME AROUND $300.00 TO FIX THAT PROBLEM. I COULDNT REMOVE THE KEY, STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP, THIS HAPPENED TWICE NOW ? BOTH TIMES AFTER DRIVING IN ON SLIGHTLY BUMPY ROAD FWY. ?

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. I TRIED DRIVING AGAIN BUT HAD BARELY PULLED AWAY FROM THE CURB WHEN THE STEERING WENT OUT AGAIN. I WAS EXTREMELY LUCKY TO BE IN THE CITY AND HAVE THE ABILITY TO GET TO A SIDE STREET AS CONTROLLING AND TURNING THE WHEEL BECAME VERY DIFFICULT.

POWER STEERING WOULD CUT IN AND OUT WHILE DRIVING. CHECK LIGHTS WOULD COME ON. LET CAR SIT A BIT RESTART ENGINE THEN WOULD STEER CORRECTLY BUT NOT FOR TOO LONG THEN STEERING WOULD BECOME VERY HARD AND CHECK LIGHTS WOULD COME ON AGAIN. A FEW DAYS WOULD PASS WITHOUT INCIDENT THEN IT WOULD FAIL TO STEER PROPERLY,(WITHOUT POWER). THIS LAST TIME, I WAS JUST BARELY ABLE TO COMPLETE A SHARP ENOUGH RIGHT TURN TO STAY IN MY LANE. I HAD TO WAIT FOR THE VEHICLE EXITING THE STREET TO LEAVE, SO I KNEW I WOULD BE ABLE TO MAKE THE TURN AND PULL OVER SAFELY! I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE IN TO THE GM PLACE FOR SERVICE LAST MONTH (OCTOBER 2014) BECAUSE I AM CONCERNED I WILL HAVE COMPLETE LOSS OF STEERING SOMEWHERE. THEY SAID THEY TRIED BUT COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM, SO THEY SAY THEY ARE UNABLE TO FIX IT. THE ONLY FIX WAS COMPLETE REPLACEMENT OF THE FUSE BOX ASSEMBLY BECAUSE THE MAIN POSITIVE LUG TO THE FUSE BOX IS ONLY HELD ON BY PLASTIC. THE DESIGN OF THIS FUSE BOX IS DEFINITELY POOR CREATING THE POSSIBILITY OF A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. HAD I BEEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED WHEN THIS OCCURRED, THE OUTCOME COULD HAVE BEEN DISASTROUS CAUSING AN ACCIDENT AND POSSIBLE DEATH. HOWEVER, THE MOMENT THE VEHICLE IS STEERED EITHER LEFT OR RIGHT, IT BEGINS TO MAKE A LOUD ROARING LIKE SOUND. THE ROARING IS ESPECIALLY PREVALENT WHEN BEING STEERED TO THE LEFT. I SLOWED DOWN TO APPROXIMATELY 40MPH AND GOT OFF AT THE FIRST EXIT AFTER PASSING THE BRIDGE (ABOUT 10-15 MINUTES AFTER THIS STARTED) AND WENT TO A SAFE AREA WHERE I PROCEEDED TO TURN OFF MY ENGINE. WHEN I TURNED MY ENGINE BACK ON, THE PROBLEM WAS GONE. THIS IS THE THIRD TIME THIS HAPPENED SINCE I PURCHASED THE CAR IN 2008, BUT THE FIRST TIME SINCE THIS PROBLEM WAS REPAIRED AT MY SERVICE SHOP. THE FIRST TWO TIMES THIS HAPPENED OCCURRED IN THE LAST THREE YEARS AND THE SERVICE SHOP WAS ONLY ABLE TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT WHEN THE PROBLEM WAS TAKING PLACE AT THAT EXACT MOMENT. I HAVE DOCUMENTATION FOR THESE VISITS TO THE SERVICE SHOP. THIS TIME ON THE BRIDGE WAS ALSO THE MOST DANGEROUS TIME FOR THIS TO OCCUR. NOW THAT MY WARRANTY IS UP, THE NEXT TIME THIS HAPPENS, I WILL HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET TO REPAIR THIS PROBLEM (WHICH SHOULD HAVE ALREADY BEEN FIXED THE FIRST TIME). I PARKED MY SATURN AND WENT INTO RESTAURANT TO EAT AND COMING OUT BACK OUT OF PARKING SPACE AND HAD NO STEERING. I CALLED MY DAD HE RESEARCHED THE PROBLEM AND DISCOVERED THAT THERE HAVE BEEN PROBLEMS WITH THE ELECTRIC ASSIST STEERING IN THIS MODEL. WE TOOK A HAMMER AND HIT THE ASSIST MOTOR AND STEERING GEAR BOX AND IT STARTED WORKING. THE GARAGE INFORMED US (MY DAD AND ME) THAT THERE WERE RECALLS ON OTHER SIMILAR MODELS BUT NOT THIS MODEL. WHIRRING/WHOOSING AND SLIGHT GROANING/VIBRATION COMING FROM STEERING WHEEL WHEN TURNING FROM A STOPPED POSITION AND AT LOW SPEED. POWER STEERING FLUID WAS LOW AND FILLED AT THAT TIME. SYMPTOMS CONTINUED. VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED AND REPAIRED BY GM SERVICE. THE STEERING SHAFT BOOT WAS GREASED AND THE TECHNICIANS REPLACED THE STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLY RACK AND PINION. ADDITIONALLY, THE STEERING PUMP WAS FLUSHED AND FILLED AND A FRONT END ALIGNMENT WAS PERFORMED. ALTHOUGH WE WERE OUT OF WARRANTY, THE ORIGINAL ESTIMATE WAS HALF AND THE PARTS WERE NOTED AS "GOOD WILL PARTS ONLY/WARRANTY". WE APPRECIATED THIS GESTURE FROM GM; WE ABSORBED THE LABOR COSTS. SINCE THE REPAIR WE HAVE BEGUN TO NOTICE A SLIGHT GROANING/VIBRATION AGAIN WHEN TURNING AT START-UP. THIS SEEMS TO DISAPPEAR WHILE DRIVING. NOTE: HAVING DONE SOME RESEARCH, OUR ISSUE SEEM TO BE A PROBLEM WITH SOME 2008 VUE VEHICLES.

VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN APPROXIMATELY 1.5 MILES. I SPENT 30 MINUTES INSIDE AND THEN UPON RETURNING TO MY CAR DISCOVERED THAT THE POWER STEERING WAS NO LONGER WORKING. THE CAR WAS TURNED ON/OFF SEVERAL TIMES AND THE FAILURE LIGHT REMAINED AS WELL AS THE FAILURE. CAR WAS BARELY DRIVABLE TO GET HOME. GM WAS CALLED AND THEY STATED THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON SUCH A PART. CAR HAS LESS THAN 60K AND IS LESS THAN 3 YEARS OLD. AN ONLINE SEARCH INDICATED THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TO OTHER 2008 VUE XE OWNERS; THE CHEVY COBALT, WHICH HAS A SIMILAR SYSTEM AND ENGINE, SEEMS TO HAVE RECALLED THE PART. PARTS WERE REPLACED AND OLD PART IS AVAILABLE. *TR

THE DRIVER STATES THIS HAPPENS WHILE SLOWING DOWN UNDER 5MPH TO MAKE A TURN. THE VEHICLE WAS LOOKED AT BY THE DEALER AND THEY AGREED THAT THE STEERING RACK NEEDS REPLACING AND WOULD REPLACE IT FREE OF CHARGE. THE DRIVER STATES AFTER HAVING REPAIRS DONE AT 9,000 MILES HE DROVE THE VEHICLE AND IT WAS STILL HAVING PROBLEMS. DRIVER ALSO STATES HE HAD TO THEN DRIVE THE VEHICLE FOR 4 MONTHS UNTIL THE DEALER GOT NEW PARTS IN. THE VEHICLE IS WITH THE DEALER AGAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON DIFFERENT OCCASIONS TO BE REPAIRED WHICH CONSISTED OF REPLACING COMPONENTS SUCH AS; FLOOR SHIFT ASSEMBLY, ACCELERATION PEDAL ENGINE MOUNT, AND THE FRONT SUSPENSION DRIVE TRAIN MOTOR MOUNT. THE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT WAS ALSO TIGHTENED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE MALFUNCTIONS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 27,000.
