DOOR LOCKS WILL UNLOCK HALF WAY UNABLE TO EXIT CAR. DOOR LOCKS WILL CLICK OPEN AND CLOSE INDEPENDENTLY WHILE DRIVING AND WHEN PARKED, USING KEY REMOTE TO LOCK CAR AND WHILE WALKING AWAY I HEAR CAR LOCKS CLICK. I WALK BACK TO CAR TO FIND ALL DOORS UNLOCKED? REAR HATCH HANDLE ASSEMBLY VERY FLIMSY. IS NOT STRONG ENOUGH TO PULL DOOR OPEN. MINE CAME OFF IN MY HAND SQUEEZING THE RELEASE THEN PULLING IT OPEN! CANNOT OPEN FROM OUTSIDE WITHOUT IT OR IN AN EMERGENCY. ALSO WITHOUT THE HANDLE THERE IS NO ILLUMINATION OF THE LICENSE PLATE WHICH GETS YOU PULLED OVER AND GETS YOU A TICKET!

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SCION XB. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FUSE BOX UNDERNEATH THE STEERING WHEEL WAS MALFUNCTIONING AND THE WIRE WAS HOT, WHICH CREATED A POSSIBLE FIRE HAZARD. THE FAILURE ALSO CAUSED THE LIGHT SWITCH, MIRROR SWITCH, TRACTION CONTROL SWITCH, AIR BAGS, AND DOOR LOCKS NOT TO WORK AFTER THE FAILURE. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 174,000.

THE DOOR LOCKS FAILED TO OPERATE. I WAS TRAPPED INSIDE AND COULD NOT OPEN THE DOORS. THE KEY WAS ALSO PREVENTED FROM UNLOCKING THE DOORS. AFTER CONSIDERABLE EFFORT I WAS ABLE TO UNLOCK A REAR DOOR AND EXIT THERE. LATER I COULD NEITHER LOCK OR UNLOCK ANY OF THE DOORS. THE CAR WAS PARKED. IT DID NOT MATTER IF THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING OR NOT OR IF THE "KEY BOB" OR DOOR LOCK SWITCH OR MANUALLY PULLING/PUSHING THE LOCK LEVER; NOTHING WOULD ALTER THE LOCKED STATUS. GRATEFUL THERE WAS NOT AN EMERGENCY SUCH AS A FIRE.

I WAS DRIVING ALONG AND WANTED TO PUT MY REAR PASSENGER WINDOW DOWN SLIGHTLY TO LET AIR CIRCULATE. I NOTICED THAT IT DID NOT MOVE WHEN I HIT THE CONTROL FROM THE FRONT SEAT. LATER AFTER I STOPPED, I WENT AROUND AND OPENED THE DOOR AND TRIED THE SWITCH ON THE DOOR. THE WINDOW WOULD NOT OPEN. I CONTACTED SCION BY EMAIL AND THEY TOOK DOWN THE INFORMATION AND ASSIGNED ME CASE #150808054 AND TOLD ME TO CONTACT THEM BY PHONE. I DID AND SPOKE WITH LAUREN WHO WAS VERY GRACIOUS AND TOOK INFO FROM ME BUT HAD NO RESOLUTION FOR THE PROBLEM AND TOLD ME THE DEALERSHIP WOULD HAVE TO GIVE ME A PRICE ON REPAIRING IT. THE DEALERSHIP CONTACTED ME AND SAID IT WOULD BE BETWEEN $300 AND $500 DEPENDING ON WHAT WAS WRONG TO FIX IT. THE GENTLEMEN TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING MORE TO BE DONE IF SCION DIDN'T OFFER TO REPAIR IT FOR ME. I AM A SENIOR CITIZEN AND CANNOT AFFORD THIS TYPE OF COST TO REPAIR A WINDOW. THEREFORE I AM DRIVING WITH IT UNABLE TO OPEN. NOW AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. IF SOMEONE IS IN THE BACKSEAT AND FOR ANY REASON WOULD NEED TO GET THAT WINDOW DOWN AND COULDN'T IT COULD BE VERY SERIOUS. A WINDOW SHOULD WORK AS LONG AS THE CAR IS ON THE ROAD AND THERE IS NOTHING TO OVERRIDE THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM TO OPEN THE WINDOW. THIS LOOKS LIKE A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE TO ME. I WENT ONLINE AND FOUND THAT THERE ARE A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVING THIS ISSUE WITH THIS PARTICULAR CAR. SCION SEEMS TOTALLY UNCONCERNED AND OFFERED NO HELP. WHAT CAN BE DONE IF ANYTHING? YOU ARE MY LAST HOPE FOR RESOLVING THIS...IT MAKES ME EXTREMELY NERVOUS TO KNOW THAT WINDOW CANNOT BE OPENED FOR WHATEVER REASON IT MIGHT NEED TO BE. I WILL APPRECIATE ANY HELP YOU CAN GIVE ME ON THIS. THANK YOU.

MY 2008 SCION XB LOST POWER STEERING AS I WAS DRIVING IT. FORTUNATELY, I WAS ABLE TO PULL THE VEHICLE OVER WITHOUT ANY CREATING AN ACCIDENT. AFTER HAVING THE VEHICLE REPAIRED, I WAS INFORMED THAT THE ELECTRONIC STEERING CONTROL UNIT FAILED WITHOUT ANY NOTICE. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEEDS ATTENTION BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED! *TR

I HAVE A TOYOTA 2006 SCION XB THAT I PURCHASED NEW AND AM EXTREMELY FOND OF IT. IN MARCH OF 2014, THE IGNITION SWITCH STARTED SUSPICIOUSLY LOOSENING UP, MOVING AROUND WHEN THE KEY WAS INSERTED INTO THE IGNITION AND PROGRESSED IN LOOSENING UP TO THE POINT WHERE THE IGNITION KEY WAS ABLE TO BE COMPLETELY PULLED OUT/REMOVED AFTER INSERTED INTO THE IGNITION TO TURN THE CAR ON AND RUN THE ENGINE. THE SHOCKINGLY DANGEROUS THING WAS THAT THE ENGINE COULD CONTINUE TO RUN AND COULD BE DRIVEN. IT WAS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE DUE TO ENGINE BEING AT RISK OF SHUTTING OFF, LOSING THE ABILITY TO STEER OR ENGAGE THE BRAKES AND BEING OUT OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE ONE IS DRIVING. I CONTACTED THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND HAD MY SCION XB ASSESSED AND REPAIRED TO THE TUNE OF $463.00 AT THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP REPORTED NO RECALLS WERE ISSUED FOR THIS MALFUNCTION. I KNOW THAT GM HAD A BIG, INTENTIONALLY DELAYED RECALL, RELATED TO THIS IGNITION/IGNITION SWITCH MALFUNCTION OF SOME OF THEIR VEHICLES WHICH LED TO A NUMBER OF ACCIDENTS WITH SOME DEATHS RESULTING. THIS WAS REPORTEDLY DUE TO ACCIDENTS WHERE THE CAR IS BEING DRIVEN, THE IGNITION/IGNITION SWITCH MALFUNCTIONS AND THE ENGINE STOPS RUNNING. I WOULD LIKE TOYOTA AND OTHER SCION OWNERS TO KNOW THAT THIS HAS OCCURRED AND COULD BE POTENTIALLY LETHAL. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA SCION XB. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AS THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED, ALL OF THE WARNING LAMPS ILLUMINATED AND REMAINED ILLUMINATED UNTIL THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES BUT WOULD ONLY OCCUR IN COLDER TEMPERATURES DURING WINTER MONTHS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 85,000.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SCION XB. THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THEY REPAIRED IT. ONE WEEK LATER THE LIGHTS CAME BACK ON AND HE TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE BRAKE LIGHT FUSE WAS BLOWN AND THEY ALSO REPLACED THE COMPUTER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ONE YEAR LATER THE COMPUTER FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED HIM THAT HE WOULD REPLACE THE COMPUTER FOR $4,000. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA SCION XB. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS. THE VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL, TRAC OFF AND THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT INDICATORS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THERE WAS A STRONG ODOR OF FUEL OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE WARNING INDICATOR REMAINED ILLUMINATED UNTIL THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON FOUR TO FIVE SEPARATE OCCASIONS FOR THE IDENTICAL FAILURES. THERE WAS A RECOMMENDATION TO REPLACE THE FUEL CAP WHICH WAS REPLACED SIX TIMES. THE MALFUNCTION CONTINUED WHICH THERE WERE NO RESOLUTIONS. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA SCION XB. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 TO 50 MPH, THE HEADLIGHTS DIMMED AND VISIBILITY WAS REDUCED. THE LIGHTS WOULD ILLUMINATE AGAIN MOMENTS LATER. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH UPHILL, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED TO 60 MPH. THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED, BUT WOULD NOT FUNCTION UNLESS THEY WERE ENGAGED AT A RAPID PACE. OCCASIONALLY THE ENGINE SHUTS OFF, THE FRONT END SHAKES WHILE DRIVING 20-50 MPH, AND THE CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH FAILED TO ENGAGE. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO BURN AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF FUEL AFTER THE OIL WAS CHANGED AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE RADIO FAILED AND THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY WOULD REPLACE IT WHEN THE PARTS ARRIVE. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE BACK OF THE BUMPER WAS SPLIT, WHICH CAUSED IT TO FALL OFF OF THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER ALSO OFFERED HER $14,000 FOR THE VEHICLE ONLY IF SHE PAID THEM $5,000. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE; HOWEVER, THEY STATED THAT THE FAILURES WERE ELECTRICAL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 400 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 12,000. UPDATED 02-14-08. *KB
