The battery is draining so quick that the car doesnt start at all. The battery drained completely in 3 days and it’s happening more often.
I have a 2019 Subaru Ascent Limited model with 96,xxx miles as of January 2025. In 2023, there was a safety recall for the PTC heater ground bolt sent first class mail for multiple year Ascent models. This recall was completed by local subaru dealership on 3/27/2023 stating "WRL 22 completed. Removed ground bolts and cleaned threads. Found no signs of heat damage. Removed and replaced bolts." Move forward to Saturday, [XXX]. I remote started vehicle from inside the house while on vacation in Bristol Tennesee. Car was running for roughly 5 minutes, when fire alarms inside the house starting going off. Seemed odd considering nothing was going on inside. Walked inside to see large amounts of white smoke coming from the windows of the Ascent. I was able to jump into the car and turn the engine off. I opened all 4 doors to let the car air out. I checked the engine, nothing seemed off. I then turned my attention to the air cabin filter, everything seemed normal as well. After the engine cooled and aired out, there is smoke damage to the vehicle. I was able to transport the car safely to Wallace Subaru which was less than 0.25 mile from our airbnb. I was quickly notified by the service technician that the car is not safe to drive until it was fixed. After further investigation, it was found that the PTC ground bolt has failed again, and this time melting the wiring harness and bolt around it. This was right next to the carpet and put my life as well as my wife, who is [XXX] and my [XXX] daughter. Thankfully we weren't in the vehicle when this occurred. There was no warning. No check engine light, nothing. No other issues leading into the incident. Car is still parked in Bristol TN at the dealership and I am 5 hours away in Lexington KY. Subaru has been uncooperative with this situation and is avoiding talking to me or making this situation better. I literally have no answers. STARTED THE VEHICLE TO DRIVE 30 MILES FOR AN APPOINTMENT. WHILE DRIVING, ALL OF THE INTRUMENT CLUSTER LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE EYE SIGHT TURNED OFF, CRUISE CONTROL NO LONGER WORKED, PARKING BRAKE LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED, ABS LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. TPMS LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THIS HAS OCCURED 2 TIMES BEFORE. THE FIX FOR THE PREVIOUS ISSUES WAS TO CLEAN THE BATTERY TERMINALS.
We have had to replace battery twice and had to have auto club give us a jump start multiple times. We drive this vehicle once or twice a month, but something is causing battery to run down way to fast. Manufacturer claims we need to drive more often. I have always had one car, that burned to much fuel, and was used as an occasional vehicle, but never had this type of problem. Something needs to be provided so that battery does not leak power when it is a low use car. I don’t want the internal lights to turn on when I walk by, or for it to access the internet. I believe that this leaves us vulnerable to non-availability at a critical time. We are planning a multi-week trip and have no idea if car will start when we return. Nor is their a way to disconnect unneeded activity that is draining battery.
Over the course of 5 years, a lot has been mechanically wrong with our vehicle. Each service appointment yielded a 'cannot duplicate' response. Recently, my car has been in the service department a few times. My car had recall work performed on a ground bolt, and my husband advised them that the car had a 'rich fuel' smell when starting with the hood open. I've complained since 2021 of a smell when pulling up the mountain. The smell is what I described as a perm solution smell. Each time, the response was 'cannot duplicate.' In February, I took the car in to have the exhaust inspected because it was getting louder each passing day. I was advised that the entire exhaust needed to be replaced, and I would be responsible for costs. I brought my car home, unrepaired, and called Subaru of America to file a claim through them. I had repeatedly expressed concerns, and nothing was done, yet I'm expected to foot the bill now. Since February 12th, I have been back and forth with Subaru and just made the appointment to get the exhaust work completed, with a small contribution from Subaru. However, this past Saturday, [XXX] my vehicle caught on fire while driving. I am fine, but my vehicle has now been deemed a total loss. As I was descending the mountain, I smelled the same 'perm solution' smell, and shortly after, there was smoke coming from under the hood. The smoke entered the cabin as I pulled off the road. Upon exiting the vehicle, flames and smoke were visible from the hood. I grabbed my purse and ran, called 911, and watched my vehicle engulfed in flames. Car battery died in store parking lot. Low mileage (24,000). I do lots of short trips and this is a reported problem for 2019 Subaru Ascents. I had to wait 2 hours for someone to bring a charger to drive to auto parts store fire replacement battery.
Battery keeps dying.
Rear lift gate drains battery to the point where the vehicle won't start. The tailgate will beep three times, but will not open. Within 24 hours, the battery is insufficient to start it. You have to do a manual override to open the lift gate. The battery, starter and alternator were all tested and had no issues. I have to keep a jump pack in the car as the issue has become more frequent. The local Subaru dealership in Mequon, WI said they would replace the battery, but won't replace the module identified in a technical service bulletin for no charge: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2019/MC-10163522-0001.pdf This seems to be a very common problem with the MY19 Ascents.
The radio started turning on and off repeatedly and does not work. The back door will not open using any of the buttons.
Arrived at my car after traveling for the weekend, and arrived to my car to find out the battery was dead. Nothing on, lights were in Auto like normal. The last thing I did after getting out of my SUV was grabbed my suitcase from the trunk. I think it must not of latched correctly and it drained the battery. There is supposed to be a light delay to preserve the battery but it did not work in this case. I still can't open the trunk. This happened once before while camping with our dogs we left the tailgate up to unpack and pack the SUV. We loaded the dogs up to leave the campsite. When we went to start the SUV the battery was dead. Seems leaving the tailgate open drains the battery. The problem is even after we got our car jumped and the car was operating okay, we could not open the tailgate. It just makes a beeping sound like it wants to release but will not open. The manual handle should allow anyone to open the gate even if there is a electrical disturbance. This is a safety issue related to not being able to get our dogs out of the cargo compartment. Our dogs are over 100 lbs and their travel crates are large and need to be opened from the rear of the vehicle.
Car has been not able to roll up driver side window for a year randomly. Suddenly 3 years old and battery is draining and RAB and Eyesight and engine light on. Took in and saying can’t replicate window after they DID replicate it 3 months ago and did not solve issue. Did battery parasitic draw and numerous parts of car are draining battery. Cannot find source.
Car system drains battery for no reason. Opening a trunk or door for a 5-10min to load or unload vehicle is enough to drain a new full battery. This can leave people stranded in parks and remote areas. We have had the battery checked and verified it is good. This problem has happened multiple times on our Ascent.
Battery drains and goes dead at least once a month. Battery was replaced by dealer and still having battery drain issues.
I parked my Ascent rear facing inside of my garage to unload my groceries. When i opened my hatch at the front button, the hatch only opened halfway. The hatch would not close with the push of the button and had to be closed manually. Once I returned to my Ascent to go somewhere, the hatch sensor beeped repeatedly, while driving, until coming to a complete stop. Once driving continued, the sensor continued beeping. This occurred with two straight vehicle drives. The entire course of the drive. I parked the Ascent in my garage and returned to the car the next morning and the Ascent would not start. AAA came to do a jumpstart with no remedy. We replaced the battery with a new, borrowed battery and the car started immediately with no beeping. We charged the old battery and replaced the new battery and the Ascent had no other issues, including easy startup and no beeping. There were no warning lights for any of the issues including the hatch or the battery.
Battery went dead after leaving tailgate open for 1hr
My vehicle won’t stay charged. We replaced the battery and still every single time I go out to start it it’s completely dead and I have to get it jumped.

The VIN tool confirmed that the VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V907000 (Electrical System) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The local dealer was not notified of the issue. The manufacturer was notified of the issue and the contact was informed that she would be notified within 24 hours. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
Battery dead, once 6 months ago when rear gate opened and closed several times before staying open for a few hours before neighbor asked if I knew it was open. Battery dead after driving to 2 stops on 10/24/22 then dead again in airport parking on 10/28/22 when returning from trip. Took into dealership 10/29/22 and problem confirmed although not sure if it is the battery or charging the battery. No warning lamps. Have to wait by myself until I can get a jump start. Don’t know when or where it might not start, puts my safety at risk by not knowing where or at what time of day or night I might be stranded.
Battery drains fully from unknown reason. This has happened at least 3 times since purchasing the vehicle, brand new, in 2019. I have had to call roadside assistance within the first year and have purchased a 2 other new batteries. There were no light or other electrical items on which would have drained the battery. It’s starts slow where I need to jump start the vehicle about 5 times before the battery is completely dead. It puts me and my family at risk of being in an isolated or unsafe place when the battery dies and need to wait for roadside service. To my recollection there were no safety checks completed for this issue. I do have a scheduled appointment at a Subaru dealer on 10/27/22 where I will ask them to look at this. There were no warning signs or indications prior to the battery draining.
Vehicle has experienced total loss of power while driving under normal circumstances. This has occurred in a drive-thru, at 45 and 50mph, and also twice during 70mph highway driving. The entire vehicle shuts down and multiple dash board lights illuminate at the time of power loss. I first documented this on 4/7/22 and it randomly occurs every month, once it even happened twice in the same day. I had called the dealership (where I purchased the vehicle and have it serviced) multiple times throughout the spring and summer awaiting parts for the TCM recall with the assumption that this could be the issue. However , my vehicle passed the recall and even after the new TCM was placed on 8/19, I again had the same event on 10/1. Vehicle was taken in on 10/6 for diagnostics on this issue again and nothing found. I do not feel like the dealership has been accurately documenting my issues so I will need to be more persistent in getting someone to address the problem as this could be a serious safety issue.
2019 Subaru Ascent experience battery drain. Was able to start after jump and had 13 volts when returned home. Next morning it did start, barely, but was down to just above 12 volts. Appears to be the electrical system drain.
Subaru ascent issues with electrical system and battery. Engine cranks longer than it should before starting- anywhere from 5 to 25 seconds. Battery dead multiple times. Have taken to Subaru multiple times, they replaced the batter once but have ignored repeated requests to fix the issue of parasitic battery drain from faulty electrical system.

Electrical (dead battery) issues. On 4 or 5 different days during the last 3 years, I have attempted to start my car and found the battery completely drained. In March of 2022, I replaced the battery at my own expense ($235.30). I assumed this would surely cure the problem. However, another dead battery on 8-18-22. I learned (at that time) there are numerous 2019 Subaru Ascent owners with similar problems.
My battery continues to drain prematurely. It’s been replaced twice within the year, and I just took it in for a 3rd time and the Subaru service department cannot diagnose the problem claiming my batteries were bad. There has to be an electrical problem. I’ve never owned a car with this issue and it’s less than 3 years old. It’s left me stranded with my children.
Electrical system repeatedly malfunctions. Intermittent starting and shut-off issues, rear hatch will not properly operate, per dealer the radio was replaced, and periodic unexplained battery drain issues resulting in replacement of battery. Dash warnings are displayed for no apparent reason. When radio was replaced there were still issues and dealer said it "would take a few days for the issues to resolve." Even after battery and radio replacement periodic shutting off car and restarting is necessary for volume control and station change. Safety could be an issue if car will not start, or shut off as related in a timeline attachment. Dealer is unable to reproduce periodic/intermittent issues.

I am experiencing battery drain. I have replaced the battery and had the starter and alternator checked. Everything is fine, but the battery continues to drain inappropriately. Yes, the battery and electrical system are available for inspectioon. My son and I have been left stranded on multiple occasions, risking our safety. The vehicle was inspected and the problem confirmed by an independent service center, B & G Automotive, Eugene, OR. The vehicle or component has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? There were not any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure.
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Battery was drained completely when rear hatch is opened for the short period of time to unload stuffs from the car. Similar situation happened when the car was about a year old. When rear hatch was opened for less than an hour to sit at rear part of the car and watch an event, battery was completely drained and we had to call road side service to restart the car. My car is available for inspection. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Both of my cases did not caused safety issue. But it will be a serious safety issue if it happens at a remote location where there is no other car or cell phone signal to call for help. Our family do travel to remote location where there is no cell phone signal. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? I am very sure that problem can be reproduce by simply opening rear hatch for a while. When I took car to the dealer, the representative was aware of the issue but was not willing to provide free service to fix the issue because basic warranty was expired. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No. It first happened when the car was about a year old (12,000 miles).

My car battery went dead and I was unable to start the car. I was camping and fortunately the ranger had a battery jump box. There was nothing wrong with the battery. When I returned I asked the dealer about it and was told these new cars have so many things that need battery power and we must have opened the doors too many times. On 12/27/2021, I decided to purchase a new battery plus the portable jump box because I frequently hike and camp in places far from phone signal and didn't want this happening again. Next camping trip it happened twice. We made sure to keep the doors shut to keep interior lights off and turned the light off when the rear gate was open. The jump box was a life saver as again we needed to jump the car. Then next day as the car sat with all the doors closed, I started hearing beeping sounds almost like an SOS. Lights flashed. The car beeped more and more. We tried starting it to no avail. Luckily, we were able to charge the jump box and successfully start the engine again. This vehicle was made for an active outdoor life style. It is a safety factor to not be able to start your car.
The day I bought the car new I left the tailgate open all night the next day the battery was dead. This should not have happened to a brand new car. The next incident occurred this year on 3/18. I was sitting in the car waiting for my husband. I was there for about an hour. I was listening to the radio and talking on the phone. When I tried to start the car the battery was dead. The AAA person said the original battery was a piece of s**t. He recommended replacing it which I did.
Spent 5 hours at a tailgate/beach event with the rear lift gate open. I made sure that interior lights were off to avoid draining the battery with the lift gate open. When we were ready to leave, the car battery was dead. We were panicked because we have a 5mo old and had to track down another driver to borrow jumper cables. Once home, we discovered that the lift gate will always draw power from the battery unless you trick the hatch lock with an off-market device or carabiner clip.
2019 Subaru Ascent with a battery draining for no known reason. Found the lift gate open one evening in the garage when I had not driven the car recently, though had been in the garage and not noticed the issue. Replaced the battery and it was dead within a week. Spoke with a Subaru dealership who denies knowing anything about this issue and stated the diagnostic could take 10-20 hours at over $100.00/hr in certain cases. Really!!!
The Subaru Ascent I purchased in January 2019 failed to start on November 13th, 2021., with about 17100 miles! I contacted the dealer who asked me to Subaru roadside assistance to have the vehicle towed to the dealer. The dealer diagnosed the problem as a dead battery and replaced the battery. I had used the rear power liftgate the previous night to remove groceries. The premature failure of the Subaru Ascent battery represents a serious risk of leaving owners stranded away from home.
The vehicle keeps discharging my battery after multiple short trips. I have reported to dealer, they said it was a faulty tailgate sensor but after the repair, it still happens, with increased frequency over time.
My battery drains rapidly on many occasions, and as you can assume it is never a fun time being stranded. When you own a car this expensive, you expect it to work. We have replaced the battery twice already in our 2019. The car completely shuts down with the drained battery and leaves you stranded and begging for a battery jump. With two kids and being a women this leaves me vulnerable to many dangers. I would say including the time Subaru replaced the battery and the time my husband replaced it, we have lost total power due to this failure a dozen times or more. If I’m loading feed bags or recycling and the trunk is open for more then 30 minutes ,without the car being turned on burning fuel and releasing carbon dioxide into my face, the car will die. I am aware of it’s sensitive battery and try to avoid these situations, BUT it happened again on vacation this weekend prompting me to be quite angry with the car. It is a definite issue with the Subaru its-self and not an error on its humans part. The car battery drains completely because of wiring issues. The defect has cost me over $500 plus hours of stress and anxiety. I’d like to join the class action law suit against Subaru. After reading that they, Subaru corporation, claim no responsibility.
The battery drains prematurely. I have been stranded waiting for 3 + hours for roadside assistance due to dead batter 3 times in December 2021. The dealer told me that due to the number of computers in the 2019 Subaru Acsent that it had to be driven at least twice a week to avoid this problem. Rear lift-gate (power tailgate hatch) emits an audible constant tone, and will not open. The car can be in park, off, or driving and will not stop the audible tone and the lift gate remains locked closed. You can not unlock the lift-gate by using the door mounted unlock, the rear lift-gate button or by key fob. No matter what the lift-gate will remain in a locked and fixed state. The only (temporary) fix is to manually disconnect the battery terminals and "reset" the car. No warning lights are displayed, dealership is unable to "find" a trouble code or fix. This is an ongoing problem, occurring with intermittent frequency. This is certainly a safety issue, as a rear occupant can be trapped in case of an emergency.
Recently have had issues with the battery. I've had to jump the car 4 times in the last month. The car was purchased in August 2021. I believe the electrical system is draining the battery.
Sunday, car wouldn’t start. Even though lights and display came on, engine wouldn’t turn over until I got a jump. After car started, center console went black and all infotainment, Bluetooth and rear view camera ceased to work. Drove hour and a half on highway. Monday morning, battery completely dead. Had to jump again. Now, center screen working, but seems to be battery issue. We had similar car starting problems before and replaced battery less than a year ago February 2021!!!

Left tailgate open for ~5 hours and the parasitic draw of that action left our battery dead. We were stranded in the middle of nowhere and had to get the battery jumped. After getting jumped... our electronics, especially the safety systems were no longer operable.
I have reported to dealership in Edinburg Tx that the head lights dem at night. Dealership claims is normal for lights to dem. Now, the battery is dead. It won’t start. On 11-19 I arrived from Disney at the Airport only to experience that my 2029 Ascent didn’t start. I called road side assistance it it would take about an hour to come jumó start me. I went with a helper to get some cables and started my vehicle. I called the dealer and I was told to bring the Ascent until December 1. That’s the date that dealer could check my vehicle. I’m home and the and I can’t get an answer if my batter has warranty. I’ll keep calling. Bad service from dealership to Roadside service.
I have a 2019 Subaru Ascent and my battery has died 3 times now. The first time was on May 2019 and the car would not start. I had to get it jump started by AAA and drove to the dealer where they ended up replacing the battery. The liftgate had somehow been triggered while in my garage and did not fully close and drained the battery. At the time it was suspected I had accidentally hit the FOB to trigger the liftgate to open but that never happened before and has ever happened since. Then in April 2020 car wouldn't start again. Car was jumped by AAA but when I attempted to drive to dealership it died again and had to get a tow truck to bring car to dealer. Battery was tested but not replaced. Dealer said I was not driving car enough (not driving at all during the pandemic) and needed to get a battery maintainer for battery which I did. I used battery maintainer when I was not driving the car regularly and car was fine until Oct 14, 2021. We had been driving car regularly for month so we were not using the battery maintainer as we thought the battery would be charged through the regular driving. But on Oct 14 the car would not start and when I tried to start it, all the dashboard and exterior lights were flashing. Plugged in the maintainer and after several hours the liftgate started beeping and then the front of the car started beeping. I had car towed to dealer and they replace battery again and also changed the power liftgate module to stop the drain on battery if door is open for more than 20 minutes.
Battery drains and vehicle inoperable. First time had to have towed to dealer- Adventure Subaru- who said problem not identified. Happens repeatedly. Left stranded .
I chose electrical problem above, however to be specific, the issue is with the battery life. I’ve read numerous complaints online of other customers of Subaru outback and Ascent, and they are reporting the same issues that I am having. Premature battery drain. I am not misusing the car at all. This is happening with normal usage of the car. I have been left stranded in several places because of this issue. It’s gotten to the point where I had to purchase an electric charger to carry around with me. The last battery that was purchased for the car last year is now completely dead. It is ridiculous to have this amount a batteries replaced in such a short period on a newer model car. My car is only three years old. This is the third battery that I am replacing. I cannot count the number of times happen to me. So the date below will be the most current date when the battery died. The worst part is, Subaru knows about the issues, but they just keep giving me excuses for why it’s dying. Furthermore, they keep replacing it with the same type of battery. It’s not just me. These complaints are numerous throughout the Subaru ascent owners that I read online.
Battery recurrently dies
3 times in past 6 weeks car battery was found dead. Recharged 3 times with wall charger. Replaced battery today after 3rd time of being dead.
The battery is draining. This has happened multiple times. Most recently, the battery died when the car was not used for a 6 day period while I was out of town.
Have had to jump my battery start using a portable power supply at least 4 times. Various reasons, such as leaving the back hatch open for extended periods, leaving the accessories on for a little over 15 minutes etc. At times it appears to struggle to start as though the battery has not fully charged. These incidents has been happening shortly after the vehicle was purchased. They are happening less to date because I'm aware that i cant use ANY accessory for an extended period because of the risk of a dead battery.
Battery keeps dying.
We believe the battery is being drained by the CAN system because it is only 2 years old and is already completely dead leaving my vehicle inoperable and creating a potentially dangerous situation
In March of 2020, I took the car into the dealership due to the multiple times I had to charge the car, their answer was I wasn’t driving the car enough. They charged the battery and told me I needed to drive the car at least 20 minutes every couple of days at 50mph+ in order to keep the battery charged. In August of 2020 I had just loaded up the car to go on a vacation and when I went to leave the house the car would not start. After charging the battery for 30 minutes in the garage it then started. Fast forward to June of 2021, I have had to charge the battery 4 more times in order for it to start. The last time was when we were leaving a campground in May, 2021, and the car wouldn’t start due to the battery. Fortunately the campground had a charger and got us back on the road.
On numerous occasions (probably 12-18 times) over the last 18 months our new Ascent will not start because of a dead battery. I have discussed this numerous times with the dealer, they have even performed tests on it but claim that it passes all tests so there is nothing they can do. No doors are being left open or lights on, yet every few weeks this problem occurs. My wife cannot take the car to the store without worrying about it not starting properly and having to get a jump from someone.
We have had two batteries die since purchasing the car new in 2018. I saw an article about electric system failure in the ascent and it said to file a complaint.

AFTER THE SECOND TIME I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE BATTERY. THE TECHNICIAN TOLD ME TO LOCK THE CAR EVEN WHEN ITS IN THE GARAGE SO THAT THE SECURITY SYSTEM WOULD STOP EXCESSIVE BATTERY USE. IVE READ THAT OTHER SUBARU OWNERS HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AND THAT THERE SEEMS TO BE AN ISSUE WITH THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. THIS ISSUE OCCURRED APPROXIMATELY 2 YEARS AFTER I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. IF THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM I EXPECT I WILL CONTINUE TO HAVE ISSUES WITH THE BATTERY AND NEXT TIME THE VEHICLE MAY BE OUT OF WARRANTY AND I WILL BE REQUIRED TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR MYSELF.
I BOUGHT MY 2019 ASCENT BRAND NEW IN SUMMER OF 2018. I WAS DRIVING YESTERDAY AND HAD MY 3 YR OLD SON WITH ME. WE STOPPED TO GET ICE CREAM AND SAT IN CAR TO EAT IT. I CALLED AAA AND THE CAME AND TOLD MY MY BATTERY HEALTH WAS ONLY 30% AND HAD A ZERO CHARGE. HE CHANGED THE BATTERY FOR ME AND WE WERE ON OUR WAY BUT WE WERE LUCKY TO BE IN AN AREA WITH HELP. NOT ALWAYS THE CASE FOR PHONE RECEPTION IN SOME AREAS. THIS CAR IS NOT EVEN 3 YRS OLD. HAD IT BEEN SUMMER IT COULD HAVE GOTTEN EXTREMELY HOT AND VERY DANGEROUS FOR MY SELF AND MY SON. IT SHOULDN'T HAVE HAPPENED ESPECIALLY SINCE WE DID NOTHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY. AFTER RECEIVING THE NEW BATTERY, THESE ISSUES WERE MITIGATED UNTIL THE NEW BATTERY DIED TWO MONTHS LATER AND THE SAME BEHAVIOR IS HAPPENING AGAIN. THE FIRST TIME I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP ABOUT THIS ISSUE, THEY SAID THE BATTERY WAS FAULTY AND REPLACED IT WITH A NEW BATTERY UNDER WARRANTY. CHARGED BATTERY OVERNIGHT. SEARCHED ONLINE FOR SUBARU BATTERY PROBLEMS. READ THAT A CLASS-ACTION LAWSUIT WAS FILED AGAINST SUBARU OF AMERICA IN 2020 RELATING TO OUTBACK AND ASCENT BATTERY ISSUES. THESE MODELS ARE REPORTEDLY EQUIPPED WITH BATTERIES THAT DRAIN AND DIE. WAS FORTUNATE THAT OFFICER M ZAWIEROWSKI WAS DRIVING BY AND ABLE TO ASSIST AND CALLED FIRE DEPARTMENT. WHEN OFFICER STATED WENT BACK TO CAR NOTICED THAT CAR LOCKED UP ALL DOORS AND STATED HOW FORTUNATE YOU (WIFE) WERE ABLE TO ESCAPE. THIS HAS LEFT ME STRANDED MULTIPLE TIMES INCLUDING AT A FOREST CAMPGROUND WITHOUT CELL COVERAGE. I HAVE USED AAA ASSIST MULTIPLE TIMES, AND THE HELP OF STRANGERS. I HAVE ALSO HAD TO PURCHASE A JUMP START BATTERY TO KEEP IN MY CAR. I HAVE ASKED SUBARU TO FIX THE PROBLEM, AND BEEN TOLD SIMPLY THAT MY BATTERY AND ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS ARE WORKING NORMALLY.

AFTER POSTING THE PHOTOS OF THE FIRE ON FACEBOOK, WE RECEIVED MULTIPLE COMMENTS THAT OTHER PEOPLE'S SUBARU'S HAVE HAD BATTERY/ELECTRICAL ISSUES. THE INSURANCE COMPANY STATED THAT THEY WOULD HAVE A SPECIALIST EXAMINE THE VEHICLE TO HELP DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE.

VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY OVERNIGHT AND UNTIL THE 10 MIN DRIVE. DURING THIS TIME THE TAILGATE WOULD PERSISTENTLY BEEP, TRYING TO OPEN.

ON 4 OCCASSIONS THE LIFTGATE OF THIS SUV WAS LEFT UP FOR 45 MINUTES TO 1.5 HOURS WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF AND STATIONARY. ON EACH TIME THE BATTERY DISCHARGED TO A POINT THE CAR WOULD NOT START. FORTUNATELY WE HAD CELL SERVICE AND COULD SUMMOND HELP, BUT THIS COULD OCCUR WHERE THERE IS NO CELL SERVICE AND LEAVE US COMPLETELY STRANDED. AFTER THE FIRST 3 TIMNES WHICH HAPPENED IN RAPID SUCCESSION I TOOK THE SUBARU ASCENT TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THE BATTERY HAD A WEAK CELL AND THEY REPLACED IT WITHOUT CHARGE. THE REPAIR INVOICE IS ATTACHED. BUT THEY NEVER TOLD ME THAT LEAVING THE LIFTGATE UP MORE THAN 30 MINUTES WOULD CAUSE THIS PROBLEM AND LEAVE ME STRANDED. THEN WHEN THE PROBLE OCCURRED AGAIN I WENT ONLINE AND DISCOVERED THIS IS A WIDELY-KNOWN DEFECT IN THE SUBARU ASCENT AND OTHER SUBARU MODELS THAT HAS STRANDED THOUSANDS OF OWNERS. OWNERS TAKE THEIR SUVS ON CAMPING OR FISHING TRIPS AND TAILGATING AT EVENTS WHERE THEY LEAVE THE LIFTGATE UP WITHOUT REALIZING THE CAR IS UNLIKELY TO START WHEN THEY WANT TO LEAVE. BUT SUBARU IS REFUSING TO CONSIDER A FIX AND RECALL THESE SUVS. I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF ANOTHER VEHICLE WITH THIS DEFECT OR PROBLEM. MANY OWNERS ARE SPENDING $250 OR MORE FOR AFTER-MARKET BATTERIES THAT ARE MUCH STRONGER THAN THE WEAK BATTERIES THAT SUBARU PROVIDES. WHILE THIS DOES NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM AND SUCH OWNERS CAN STILL BE STRANDED, AT LEAST WITH A STRONGER BATTERY THE CHANCES IT WILL START ARE MUCH BETTER. SUPPOSEDLY THERE IS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT FILED IN NEW JERSEY AGAINST SUBARU OVER THIS ISSUE, BUT THAT WILL ONLY REWARD THE ATTORNEYS INVOLVED WITH MILLIONS OF DOLLARS AND PROBABLY NET ME $20 IN 5 YEARS. PLEASE CONSIDER FORCING SUBARU TO FIND A SOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM AND RECALL AND FIX ALL SUBARU ASCENTS STILL ON THE ROAD.

IN OCT 2020 WHEN I FOUND OUT THAT THE BATTERY WAS DEAD IN THE MORNING JUST ANOTHER TIME I GOT THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN. THAY TESTED EVERYTHING AND SAID THAT THE CAR AND THE BATTERY ARE OK. I FIND THE SITUATION UNACCEPTABLE. IT'S NOT A MINOR. JUST IMAGINE THAT YOU CAN FIND YOURSELF IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE WITH KIDS ON BOARD OUT OF REACH OF CELLULAR NETWORK IN A DEAD CAR. THE BATTERY WAS REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 11,000.

THE MOST RECENT TIME THIS HAPPENED, AFTER I JUMP STARTED THE CAR THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYED ON AS DID ALL WARNING LIGHTS FOR THE EYESIGHT SAFETY SYSTEMS THE X MODE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM, AND THE EYESIGHT SYSTEM DID NOT FUNCTION. IT HAS BEEN FORTUNATE THAT EVERY TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED I'VE BEEN AT HOME WHERE I COULD JUMP START THE CAR. IF THIS HAPPENS ON A TRIP WE WOULD BE STRANDED.

AFTER CHARGING UP THE BATTERY, ALL THE MAJOR SAFETY CAR FEATURES HAVE BEEN DISABLED AND THE ENGINE LIGHT IS ON WITH MANY OTHER LIGHTS SHOWING UP. THE CAR IS DRIVABLE BUT OBVIOUSLY DOESN'T FEEL RIGHT OR SAFE. I JUST CALLED SUBARU TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT. I EXPLAINED THE PROBLEM. THEY ORIGINALLY SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT FOR 2 WEEKS LATER BUT I MANAGED TO GET AN APPOINTMENT FOR NEXT DAY. I'M CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THE CAR ESPECIALLY WITH THE NUMBER OF OTHER OWNERS WITH ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS SPECIFICALLY RELATED TO THE TAILGATE.

TO LET IT DIE AGAIN AND TOW IT BACK TO THE DEALER. SO I DID! A WEEK AFTER MY BRAND NEW BATTERY HAD TESTED 'GOOD', IT HAD TO BE TOWED BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP. TODAY THEY CALLED ME STATING A CELL IN THE BATTERY TESTED BAD SO THEY ARE GOING TO REPLACE IT. HOW COULD THAT BE POSSIBLE? SOMETHING IS WITHDRAWING CHARGE OFF THE BATTERY AND THEY CANT FIGURE IT OUT. THEY ARE GOING TO KEEP THE CAR OVERNIGHT TO SEE IF THEY NOTICE ANY DISCHARGE FROM THE BATTERY. BUT COM'ON. I HAVE A 2019 SUBARU ASCENT. ON JULY 2, MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING ON A RURAL ROAD WHEN OUT OF NOWHERE THE CAR STARTED VIBRATING AND RATTLING AND HIS SPEED WENT FROM 60 MPH DOWN TO 30 MPH IN A MATTER OF SECONDS AND THE CAR STARTED FLASHING INFORMATION ON THE DASH. NOTHING AND NOBODY WAS AROUND AND HE HAD TO BEG THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER TO LET HIM AND OUR ELDERLY DOG RIDE TO THE NEAREST SUBARU DEALERSHIP WHICH WAS ABOUT 50 MILES AWAY. I WAS ALREADY AT THE BEACH AT EMERALD ISLE NC AND HAD TO GO PICK HIM UP AT PARKWAY SUBARU IN JACKSONVILLE NC. THIS WAS ON JULY 2,2020. TODAY, JULY 11, WE STILL DON'T HAVE MY CAR BACK. I AM THANKFUL THAT PARKWAY DEALERSHIP LOANED US A CAR TO GET BACK TO RALEIGH WHERE WE LIVE AND BOUT OUR CAR, AT SOUTHERN STATES SUBARU. PARKWAY HAS TOLD US VARIOUS THINGS THAT COULD BE THE PROBLEM. FOR FOR SEVERAL DAYS THEY HAD TO GUESS AS THE SUBARU HEADQUARTERS IT WAS 'DOWN'. AS OF NOW PARKWAY STILL HAS MY CAR AND I HAVE THEIR LOANER SUBARU OUTBACK. AFTER SUBARU REPLACED THE BATTERY, IT DIED AGAIN ON APRIL 4, 2020, ALSO AT HOME WHILE THE CAR WAS IN THE GARAGE. AT THAT TIME, THE DEALER SIMPLY RECHARGED THE BATTERY AND PERFORMED DEEP DIAGNOSTICS WHICH DID NOT INDICATE ANY SYSTEMIC ELECTRICAL ISSUE. I HAVE ATTACHED A LOG OF ISSUES WHICH POINT TO OTHER ELECTRICAL SYSTEM ISSUES THAT SUBARU HAS ACKNOWLEDGED ARE KNOWN ISSUES BUT SUBARU HAS NOT OR WILL NOT FIX THE ROOT ELECTRICAL CAUSES OF THESE ISSUES VIA A RECALL. THAT SOUND STOPPED SHORTLY LATER. I HAVE STARTED MY SUBARU DAILY OR EVERY DAY TO ENSURE IT WILL START. THEY PROVIDE THE SAME BATTERY TYPE. IN MARCH 2020 THE CAR WOULDN'T START. CONTACTED SUBARU ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE, JUMPED THE CAR. IN JUNE 2020 WHITE GETTING READY FOR A CAMPING TRIP, AFTER PACKING THE CAR, WHICH INVOLVE LEAVING THE REAR HATCH OPEN AND DOOR CONSTANTLY OPENS AND CLOSED THE CAR WOULDN'T START. USING A PORTABLE BACKUP BATTERY I WAS ABLE TO JUMP THE CAR AND GO ON MY TRIP. WHILE CAMPING I KEPT THE ENGINE RUNNING WHILE I WAS UNLOADING THE CAR. DID HE SAME WHEN I LOADED THE CAR BACK. *TR

IT WAS FINALLY TOWED TO THE DEALER ON 12/31/19 & THEY CHARGED THE BATTERY & TESTED & REPROGRAMMED IT.SINCE I WAS GOING AWAY FROM HOME FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD, I DIDN'T WANT TO TAKE A CHANCE THAT THE DISCHARGED BATTERY WOULD CAUSE FURTHER PROBLEMS, SO I PURCHASED A NEW BATTERY & HAD IT INSTALLED. AS I UNDERSTAND FROM THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN, A SENSOR ON THE TAILGATE DID NOT SHUT OFF THE CARGO LIGHT WHEN IT WAS LEFT OPEN FOR THE EXTENDED PERIOD, WHICH DISCHARGED THE BATTERY TO ALMOST NO ENERGY REMAINING. THIS EXTREMELY LOW ENERGY CAUSED THE BATTERY NOT TO BE ABLE TO BE JUMPED & FORCED IT TO BE TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO BE CHARGED. I UNDERSTAND THAT ALMOST COMPLETE DISCHARGING OF A BATTERY SIGNIFICANTLY SHORTENS ITS LIFE & RELIABILITY. I BELIEVE THAT THIS MODEL SUBARU HAS A DESIGNED DEFECT IN THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM THAT CAUSES THE BATTERY TO BE ALMOST COMPLETELY DISCHARGED BY HAVING THE TAILGATE OPEN FOR THE TIME IT TAKES TO PACK THE CAR. THIS BELIEF IS REINFORCED BY CHECKING THE INTERNET & LEARNING THAT OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAD SIMILAR EXPERIENCES & HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT IT TO THE CAR MANUFACTURER. THE CAR MANUFACTURER NEEDS TO BE FORCED TO INSTITUTE A RECALL & PROVIDE A SOFTWARE "PATCH" & WHATEVER ELSE NEEDS TO BE MODIFIED OR CHANGED TO PREVENT THE BATTERY FROM DISCHARGING IN THE FUTURE. IF PART OF THE ORIGINAL PROBLEM WAS THAT THE OEM BATTERY WAS INAPPROPRIATELY SIZED, THEN THEY SHOULD ALSO REIMBURSE ME FOR THE NEW BATTERY THAT WAS PURCHASED.

TODAY I FOUND THE CAR PARKED IN THE GARAGE AND THE TAILGATE WOULD NOT OPEN, THE CAR WOULD NOT START, AND THE BATTERY WAS DEAD AGAIN. I COULD FIND NO REASON FOR THE BATTERY TO BE DEAD AGAIN. THE CAR HAD BEEN DRIVEN NORMALLY AROUND TOWN FOR THE LAST FEW DAYS. IT WAS PARKED IN THE GARAGE. ALL THE DOORS WERE SHUT AND NO LIGHTS HAD BEEN LEFT ON. I PURCHASED VEHICLE IN DECEMBER 2018 FOR 2019 MODEL. THE ORIGINAL BATTERY ONLY LASTS SLIGHTLY OVER ONE YEAR. IT IS COMMON KNOWLEDGE THAT BATTERY OF A NEW VEHICLE NORMALLY LASTS FOR MORE THAN 5 YEARS. BATTERY RAN OUT IN LESS THAN 14 MONTHS IS VERY WEIRD AS I HAVE ONLY DRIVEN AROUND 2,500 MILES ONLY. I AM STRONGLY BELIEVE THAT THE BATTERY IS DEFECTIVE.
DRIVING NORMAL, 30 MPH ON A FLAT ROAD, WHEN ALL DASH LIGHTS LIT UP. RAB, BREAK, CHECK ENGINE, EVERY SINGLE DASH LIGHT AT THE SAME TIME. WE THEN LOST POWER STEERING, AND WHEN WE PULLED OVER COULDN'T GET THE CAR INTO PARK. EVENTUALLY AFTER FIGHTING WITH IT, CAR WENT INTO PARK. ATTEMPTED TO RESTART IT, AND IT DID RE-START BUT WITH THE SAME LIGHTS ON THE DASH. IT WAS UNABLE TO BE DRIVEN AND HAD LOST POWER IN A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS SITUATION. CAR WAS TOWED. DEALER HAS HAD IT SINCE THEN, NOW 01/21/20 AND THEY KNOW IT'S ELECTRICAL, IT HAS HAPPENED AGAIN WHILE THEY DROVE IT, BUT THEY CANNOT FIGURE OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM IS.

CAR WAS SHAKING WHILE IDLING/ SHIFTING HARD/ STUDDERING WHILE TRYING TO SHIFT AND NOT SHIFTING WHILE GOING UP AN INCLINE. THE TRANSMISSION WAS DAMAGED FROM THE SLACK IN THE CVT BELT AND NOW HAS TO BE COMPLETELY REPLACED. ALSO THE BATTERY DIED. NO DOORS WERE LEFT OPEN AND NO LIGHTS WERE LEFT ON. NO REASON TO HAVE A DEAD BATTERY OTHER THAN A LARGE PARASITIC DRAIN WHILE THE CAR IS OFF.

EVERY WEEK OR TWO THE CAR FAILS TO START. WHEN THE IGNITION BUTTON IS PUSHED, THE VEHICLE GAINS POWER BUT DOES NOT TURNOVER AND START. YOU NEED TO EXIT THE VEHICLE, LOCK THE VEHICLE AND UNLOCK THE VEHICLE AND GO THROUGH THIS PROCESS UP TO 7 TIMES BEFORE THE VEHICLE WILL START. VEHICLE HAS BEEN BROUGHT BACK TO SUBARU SERVICE DEPARTMENT 3 SEPARATE TIMES FOR UP TO 2 WEEKS AT A TIME AND THEY ARE UNABLE TO REPLICATE OR FIX THE PROBLEM.

AUTO ROADSIDE SERVICE JUMP STARTED AND SAID LEAVING DOORS OPEN DRAINED BATTERY BELOW 12V, PREVENTING IT FROM STARTING. SAID SUBARU BATTERIES ARE WAY UNDER POWERED AND DRAIN EASILY.

REAR HATCH DOES NOT FULLY CLOSE OCCASIONALLY. THIS IS ONLY NOTED BY THE HATCH APPEARING OPEN AND THE BATTERY BEING COMPLETELY DRAINED AND DEAD. ON TWO OCCASIONS I HAVE CLOSED THE HATCH WITH THE ON-DOOR BUTTON AND CAME BACK TO FIND THE HATCH SLIGHTLY AJAR AND THE BATTERY COMPLETELY DEAD.
ISSUE #1: TRANSMISSION. STARTING AROUND 8000 MILES, A LOUD SQUEALING SOUND WOULD OCCUR PERIODICALLY DURING AUTOMATIC SHIFTING. AT FIRST IT WAS ONLY WHILE OBTAINING HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND LATER IT WOULD HAPPEN AT CITY STREET SPEEDS. THE SQUEALING SOUND WOULD BE ACCOMPANIED BY A SHUTTERING FEELING AS WELL. WE LIVE 3 HOURS FROM THE DEALER AND WERE TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT THE CAR WAS JUST 'GETTING TO KNOW US'. AS THIS PROBLEM PERSISTED AND WORSENED, WE WERE FINALLY BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER AT 12,000 MILES AND THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM AND SAID WE NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION. THAT WAS ON 9/27/19. WE ARE AWAITING THE AVAILABILITY OF A NEW TRANSMISSION WHILE DRIVING A LOANER. ISSUE #2: ELECTRICAL ISSUE. TWICE ALL OF THE ENGINE WARNING/DASHBOARD LIGHTS CAME ON WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 20 MPH ON A DIRT ROAD. THE FIRST TIME WAS AROUND 9800 MILES. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR AND BROUGHT THE CAR TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP (SUBARU DEALER IS 150 MILES AWAY) AND HIS COMPUTER DIAGNOSED A POSSIBLE TRANSMISSION PROBLEM AND HE REBOOTED THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. ALL SEEMED OK WITH THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM FOR A WHILE. THIS HAPPENED AGAIN AROUND 11,000 MILES WHILE BEING DRIVEN AT CITY STREET SPEEDS AND THE NEXT MORNING THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM WAS BACK TO NORMAL. IN TALKING TO THE SUBARU DEALER BY PHONE, THEY SAID THERE WAS PROBABLY JUST A BUG IN THE SYSTEM AND IT CAN FIX ITSELF. AT THE 12,000 MILE APPT, NO ISSUES WERE DISCOVERED WITH THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM.

OUR ASCENT HAS BEEN DYING SINCE JUNE, WHICH WAS ALMOST A YEAR FROM THE DAY WE BOUGHT IT BRAND NEW (FIRST ASCENT SOLD BY OUR DEALER). IT HAS LOST TOTAL POWER ABOUT 7-8 TIMES NOW AND WE'VE HAD IT TOWED TO OUR SUBARU DEALER THREE TIMES. THE FIRST TIME THEY SAID IT WAS A DEFECTIVE BATTERY AND GAVE US A NEW BATTERY. THE SECOND TIME THE DEALER PERSON SAID THERE WAS NO PROBLEM AND BLAMED ME FOR LEAVING ONE OF THE INTERIOR LIGHTS ON OVERNIGHT THUS DRAINING THE BATTERY. THE THIRD TIME THEY KEPT THE CAR FOR ABOUT A WEEK AND AFTER THAT THEY SAID IT WAS SOME SORT OF A LOOSE CABLE AND THAT THEY HAD FIXED THE PROBLEM. SINCE THEN THE CAR HAS DIED TWO MORE TIMES. THE FIRST ONE WHEN MY HUSBAND WAS CAMPING WITH THE KIDS (WHICH HAS HAPPENED BEFORE WHILE CAMPING BECAUSE OF THE OPENING AND CLOSING OF DOORS) BUT LUCKILY HE HAD A "JUMP STARTER KIT" WHICH WE HAD ACQUIRED AFTER FEW TIMES AFTER OUR CAR DIED. AND, THAT I MUST ADD THAT IT IS A TOOL THAT SHOULD COME WITH EVERY ASCENT! THE LAST TIME WAS TODAY. PROBABLY BECAUSE THE KIDS LEFT ONE INTERIOR LIGHT ON AGAIN. THEY KEEP CLAIMING IT'S MY FAULT FOR LEAVING THE INTERIOR LIGHT ON OVERNIGHT, AND THAT THE SUBARU TECHNOLOGY REPORTING SYSTEM HAS NOTHING ABOUT THIS. ISN'T THIS AN ABSURD? UNACCEPTABLE THAT A SMALL LITTLE LIGHT CAN DRAIN THE ENTIRE BATTERY POWER ONLY OVERNIGHT. I AM NOT TALKING ABOUT HEADLIGHTS ON OVERNIGHT, IT'S ONLY ONE INTERIOR LIGHT... AND SOMETIMES NOT EVEN THAT, JUST THE FACT THAT WE OPENED AND CLOSED THE DOORS WAY TOO MANY TIMES (EG WHILE CAMPING). THIS IS VERY IRRITATING AND I THINK THEY SHOULD HAVE THIS FIXED.
MY NEW VEHICLE HAS EXPERIENCED COMPLETE ELECTRICAL MALFUNCTION WHILE DRIVING. VEHICLE UNEXPECTEDLY TURNS ON ALL WARNINGS AND DISABLED ALL SAFETY FEATURES TO INCLUDE COLLISION AND BLINDSIDE MONITORS. AS INDICATED BY MANY OTHER SUBARU OWNERS, THE PROBLEMS WERE DIAGNOSED BY SUBARU TO BE RELATED TO A LOOSE TRANSMISSION HARNESS. SO FAR SUBARU HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL TO INSPECT ALL 2019 AND 2020 SUBARU ASCENT TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY. WE ARE SUPER SCARE OF DRIVING THE VEHICLE WITH THE IDEA THAT IT CAN STALL IN MID DRIVING.

WE HAD A SERIOUS ELECTRICAL MALFUNCTION OF OUR NEW 2019 SUBARU ASCENT THAT HAPPENED ON JULY 27,2019 AT APPROXIMATELY 11 AM. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN OUR DRIVEWAY IN THE SUN. THE TEMPERATURE WAS APPROXIMATELY 95 DEGREES.WE LOADED OUR DOGS IN THE REAR OF THE SUBARU ASCENT IN METAL WIRE CRATES.WE THEN CLOSED THE HATCHBACK USING THE BUTTON AND THE MOTOR FUNCTIONED PROPERLY TO CLOSE THE HATCHBACK COMPLETELY. MY WIFE THEN GOT INTO THE DRIVER SEAT OF THE VEHICLE AND ATTEMPTED TO START THE CAR WITH THE PUSHBUTTON START. THE STARTER CLICKED ON AND THE ENGINE TURNED OVER ONCE BUT DID NOT START. SHE THEN PRESSED THE START BUTTON AGAIN WITH NO RESPONSE WHATSOEVER FROM THE VEHICLE. THE DASHBOARD WARNING LIGHTS STARTED FLASHING RANDOMLY. THE MAIN LCD SCREEN IN THE CENTER CONSOLE TURNED BLANK AND THEN REAPPEARED IN THE HOME SCREEN. NO OTHER ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS WERE FUNCTIONAL. SPECIFICALLY WE COULD NOT OPEN THE REAR HATCH NOW AS IT IS ELECTRICALLY MOTOR DRIVEN AND THERE IS NO WAY FROM THE OUTSIDE TO MECHANICALLY OPEN THE HATCH. THIS IS A NEW 2019 SUBARU ASCENT THAT WAS PURCHASED APPROXIMATELY 2 MONTHS PRIOR AND HAS ONLY 1500 MILES ON IT.MY WIFE ATTEMPTED TO USE THE STARLINK HELP BUTTON INSIDE THE VEHICLE BUT THAT DID NOT WORK.I DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY CABLES FROM THE BATTERY FOR A LITTLE OVER A MINUTE AND A HALF. I THEN TRIED RECONNECTING THE BATTERY CABLES AND RESTARTING THE CAR BUT NOTHING WORKED.THE CAR WOULD NOT START EVEN WITH JUMPER CABLES ATTACHED. NONE OF THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS WERE FUNCTIONAL WITH THE JUMPER CABLES ATTACHED.I HAD TO OBTAIN A BOLT CUTTER AND CUT THE CRATE APART TO BRING THE ANIMALS OUT. I NOTIFIED A MY SUBARU DEALER OF THIS PROBLEM. THEY HAD US BRING THE CAR INTO THEIR DEALERSHIP ON MONDAY JULY 29.THEY STATED THEY RAN DIAGNOSTICS AND ACTUALLY TALKED TO THE SUBARU SUPPORT FROM CORPORATE AND COULD NOT FIND ANY DEFECT IN THE VEHICLE. NO FIX WAS DONE

THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE WITH MY VEHICLE AND I HAVE HEARD REPORTS FROM OTHER ASCENT OWNERS EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUE. FROM WHAT I CAN TELL THE ISSUE IS CAUSED BY THE DOOR SENSORS REMAINING ON AS LONG AS THE DOOR IS OPEN EVEN IF THE ENGINE AND ACCESSORIES ARE TURNED OFF. VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY BOTH TIMES IT HAPPENED, PARKED IN GARAGE. ALL LIGHTS AND OTHER ELECTRONICS WERE TURNED OFF, ONLY DOOR WAS LEFT OPEN.

I ATTEMPTED TO START MY SUBARU ASCENT AND IT WOULD NOT START. I CONTACTED SUBARU'S TOWING AND THEY CAME AND JUMPSTARTED THE CAR. THE TOWING COMPANY INFORMED ME THAT SUBARU'S ASCENT BATTERIES ARE DEFECTIVE AND THAT THEY HAVE BEEN FORCED TO JUMP A NUMBER OF THEM. I DROVE TO WORK. THE NEXT MORNING, I WOKE TO THE SAME PROBLEM. I CALLED SUBARU'S TOWING SERVICE, AND THEY CAME OUT AGAIN. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY TESTED THE BATTERY, BUT THE BATTERY DID NOT EXHIBIT FAIL CODES. SUBARU WOULD NOT REPLACE THE BATTERY, DESPITE THE TWO FAILURES. SINCE THIS TIME, I'VE HAD MULTIPLE BATTERY FAILURES AND SUBARU CONTINUES TO DENY MY REQUEST FOR REPLACEMENT.

RETURNED TO DEALERSHIP , THEY SAID IT WAS NORMAL FEATHERING OF TIRES. WORRIED EYESIGHT AND ENGINE CAN BE AFFECTED WITH RAIN. ALSO AT A FEW HUNDRED MORE MILES WE NOW SMELL BURNING OIL ON AND OFF OUTSIDE OF CAR. WE HAVE ALSO EXPERIENCED HIGH REVVING MOTOR WITH NO FOOT ON GAS PEDAL.(STATIONARY WHEN SMELLING BURNT OIL SMELL AND MOTOR REVVING. ALSO ONCE HIGH REVVING WHILE MY 17 YEAR OLD WAS CITY DRIVING. LOVE TO DRIVE THE CAR, HOPE IT HOLDS UP!

I HAD TO CLIMB THROUGH THE REAR SEAT UNHOOK SEVERAL ANCHORS THAT HOLD THE CRATES DOWN, TRY TO MANEUVER ONE SIDE WAYS SO AS TO GET THE DOOR TO OPEN TO GET THE DOG OUT. IF IT WAS HOT OUT OR AN EMERGENCY, THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A SERIOUS ISSUE. IT TOOK ABOUT 20 MIN. TO GET THIS DONE. THERE IS NO OVERRIDE ON THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE. THE DEALER SAID ITS THE WAY IT IS. UNTIL THE BATTERY GETS JUMPED OR CHARGED, YOU CAN'T GET IN THE REAR HATCH.

THE BATTERY KEEPS DYING WHEN I HAVE THE TAILGATE (TG) OPENED FOR EXTENDED PERIODS OF TIME SUCH AS WHEN DOG TRAINING. THE FIRST TIME MY BATTERY DIED, I WAS THE LAST PERSON ON THE TRAINING GROUNDS. I CLOSED THE TG AND LIGHTS WERE FLASHING AND BEEPING FOR A FEW MINUTES. THE BATTERY DIED AND THE TG WAS SHUT AND WOULDN'T OPEN. I PANICKED B/C I COULD NOT GET MY DOGS OUT AND I WAS ALONE IN A VAST WOODED AREA. THIS IS A TERRIBLE SAFETY ISSUE B/C IF I DID NOT HAVE CELL PHONE COVERAGE THAT DAY, MY DOGS WOULD'VE BEEN TRAPPED IN THE CAR WITHOUT WATER AND I WOULD HAVE HAD TO WALK A VERY LONG WAY TO GET HELP SINCE THE SUBARU ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE WILL NOT WORK WITHOUT CELL COVERAGE. IN FEB., I WAS DOG TRAINING IN AREAS OF GEORGIA WHERE THERE IS NO CELL PHONE COVERAGE. THREE DAYS IN A ROW, MY BATTERY DIED. FORTUNATELY, ANOTHER MEMBER OF OUR GROUP JUMP STARTED THE CAR. THE LOCAL DEALER IN TALLAHASSEE WAS SHOCKED TO HEAR THAT LEAVING THE TAILGATE OPEN WOULD DRAIN THE BATTERY. SUBARU SAYS THIS IS HOW THE CAR WAS DESIGNED. IN ADDITION TO INSTALLING A NEW BATTERY, THEY INSTALLED A BATTERY DISCONNECT SWITCH, WHICH I PURCHASED TO PREVENT MY BATTERY FROM DYING. EVERY TIME YOU FLIP THE SWITCH TO CUT THE BATTERY OFF, ALL THE PRESETS GO BACK TO DEFAULT AND HAVE TO BE RESET. AND NOW RANDOMLY ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS NOW COME ON AND THE EYESIGHT SYSTEM FAILS B/C SUPPOSEDLY THE SYSTEM IS SENSING A DROP IN VOLTAGE WHEN THE BATTERY DISCONNECT SWITCH IS BEING USED. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT SUBARU DIDN'T THINK THIS THROUGH GIVEN THAT THEY MARKET TO THE OUTDOORSY TYPE OF PERSON, DOG OWNERS AND CAMPERS. THEY NEED SOME SORT OF FIX TO CORRECT THIS SAFETY ISSUE TO ALLOW OWNERS TO TURN OFF THE POWER TO THE TG WHEN NEEDED SO THEY ARE NOT LEFT STRANDED WHEN THEY ARE 'OFF THE GRID' AS THEIR COMMERCIALS TOUT. .

VEHICLE MOVED RELENTLESSLY SIDE TO SIDE MAKING A WHITE KNUCKLE EXPERIENCE. SIDE WINDOW LANE DEPARTURE LIGHTS WERE ALMOST ON CONSTANTLY. FELT LIKE THE WIND WAS LIFTING CAR FROM GROUND. HAD TO PULL INTO 2 REST STOPS AS STRESS OF TRYING TO CONTROL VEHICLE WAS UNPREDICTABLE AND STRESSFUL. AS FOR ELECTRONIC ISSUES DEALER REPLACED AMPLIFIERS AND PROBLEM STILL PERSISTS NEW RADIO/PHONE UNIT ORDERED BUT NOT INSTALLED DUE TO MY FILING LEMON LAW
