My vehicle smokes when starting it. A lot of white smoke that can fill a parking lot. The smoke has a strong chemical smell.
The Y pipe that connects the exhaust from the engine to the turbo charger, has cracks from poor welds. It happened 8-12 months ago we started to notice that during warm up our Ascent would sound real loud then quiet down once it warmed up. We didn’t know there was an issue as there were no lights that came on and we had no loss of power or MPG. The safety issue would be that we finally took the car in once we started to smell exhaust fumes coming from the car that we would start to smell from inside the car. We had to start to air out the car after warming up if we couldn’t immediately drive away once started. We contacted Subaru and they offered a partial credit for a repair but after researching I have seen they have had recalls in the past regarding similar cracked Exhaust manifolds on another model car.
During an inspection at the dealership in December 2023, the tech found the oil pan to be leaking. It was resealed during the same visit. Approximately 8 months later, the same problem was found again at the dealership. It was again resealed. Upon further research, this appears to be a recurring problem on similar vehicles.
Purchase the car two weeks ago the first night on the way home it was acting up just like it did when I test drove it and was told by the BMW dealership Aristocrat Motors in Topeka Kansas that they would fix anything that was wrong with it. On the way home I realized I didn't think it would make it back the 60 miles so I took it to Olathe Subaru they informed me that it had had transmission problems reported by the previous owners but their technician couldn't get it to do it again so the people just traded it in instead and then I got the car without them getting the transmission fixed or whatever was wrong. They are actually waiting on Subaru of America to respond to tell them what needs to be done to the car and in the process I have been two weeks with little information of what's going on. I feel the recall should have been done and the car is still a good car it just needs to be repaired correctly. Thank you for your response I look forward to hearing from you please help.
Over the course of 5 years, a lot has been mechanically wrong with our vehicle. Each service appointment yielded a 'cannot duplicate' response. Recently, my car has been in the service department a few times. My car had recall work performed on a ground bolt, and my husband advised them that the car had a 'rich fuel' smell when starting with the hood open. I've complained since 2021 of a smell when pulling up the mountain. The smell is what I described as a perm solution smell. Each time, the response was 'cannot duplicate.' In February, I took the car in to have the exhaust inspected because it was getting louder each passing day. I was advised that the entire exhaust needed to be replaced, and I would be responsible for costs. I brought my car home, unrepaired, and called Subaru of America to file a claim through them. I had repeatedly expressed concerns, and nothing was done, yet I'm expected to foot the bill now. Since February 12th, I have been back and forth with Subaru and just made the appointment to get the exhaust work completed, with a small contribution from Subaru. However, this past Saturday, [XXX] my vehicle caught on fire while driving. I am fine, but my vehicle has now been deemed a total loss. As I was descending the mountain, I smelled the same 'perm solution' smell, and shortly after, there was smoke coming from under the hood. The smoke entered the cabin as I pulled off the road. Upon exiting the vehicle, flames and smoke were visible from the hood. I grabbed my purse and ran, called 911, and watched my vehicle engulfed in flames. 2019 Subaru Ascent was taken to mechanic due to jolting between 1000RPM and 1500RPM. Car was not throwing any code. Mechanics then did other test and it was determined the transmission is failing. Car only has 70,000 miles on it. Also, when car is started at times, there is a very prominent cloud of smoke that comes from the exhaust.
Clouds of smoke at startup scince car was new.
Battery draining problem
Oily blue smoke from exhaust upon start
Car has been not able to roll up driver side window for a year randomly. Suddenly 3 years old and battery is draining and RAB and Eyesight and engine light on. Took in and saying can’t replicate window after they DID replicate it 3 months ago and did not solve issue. Did battery parasitic draw and numerous parts of car are draining battery. Cannot find source.
As I am going up a hill I will be pushing on the gas and the engine will rev up loudly and the rpm will increase but the vehicle speed won’t increase or it decreases as I’m trying to accelerate. This is dangerous because the people behind me are expecting me to be speeding up to go up the hill but my vehicle will be slowing down and won’t let me increase speed. It has been to the dealer multiple times and they say they can’t find nothing wrong. We drove the mechanic around and it did the exact same thing I explained and he still said they couldn’t find anything wrong with it. I know this isn’t normal because when we first bought it, it did not drive like this. I’ve also had multiple people tell me they are experiencing the same exact issues. This has been going on for about a year now. It also has been doing a few other things as well.
Vehicle has experienced total loss of power while driving under normal circumstances. This has occurred in a drive-thru, at 45 and 50mph, and also twice during 70mph highway driving. The entire vehicle shuts down and multiple dash board lights illuminate at the time of power loss. I first documented this on 4/7/22 and it randomly occurs every month, once it even happened twice in the same day. I had called the dealership (where I purchased the vehicle and have it serviced) multiple times throughout the spring and summer awaiting parts for the TCM recall with the assumption that this could be the issue. However , my vehicle passed the recall and even after the new TCM was placed on 8/19, I again had the same event on 10/1. Vehicle was taken in on 10/6 for diagnostics on this issue again and nothing found. I do not feel like the dealership has been accurately documenting my issues so I will need to be more persistent in getting someone to address the problem as this could be a serious safety issue.
When starting it blows blue smoke out of tail pipes that lingers in the air. I Bought used on 7/23/22 and previous owner just said it did the same with them. It was taking to Subura dealer to be fixed and they don’t know what to do to fix it.
They have not have remedy for a long time!
Transmission slipping especially while climbing an incline though it’s happened while on flat surface accelerating
The contact owns a 2019 Subaru Ascent. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle and shifting from PARK to DRIVE, the RPM abruptly went up from 1,200 to 4,000. The contact shifted the vehicle into NEUTRAL to check if the accelerator pedal was stuck but found no obstruction to the pedal. The contact restarted the vehicle and slowly drove the vehicle to his residence. The contact stated that the failure persisted. The contact called a local dealer but was unable to schedule a date to have the vehicle diagnosed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 47,915.

Trying to pass an 18-wheeler on PA Turnpike. Weather 68-degrees, sunny day, no precipitation. When accelerating, the vehicle began shaking. There was a stutter in engine, shaking the vehicle. Suddenly a loud bang jolted the car and the Crash avoidance system applied breaks (I was the left passing lane, at a speed of 70 mph, with more than a dozen vehicles close behind). Emergency collision warning, EyeSight warning, check engine, RAB, and numerous dash error alterts illuminated. The parking brake turned on and off without human intervention (it's computer-controlled). The engine shut off and a multiple car fishtail began behind me. Fortunately, no one was hurt. I put the car in Neutral, lurched to the side of the road, and called OnStar. Calls to the dealer have not been returned. I drive elementary children to scouts and sporting events. I can't imagine the horror had they been harmed or worse.
Huge plumes of smoke on startup. Complained to the service department on multiple occasions and even left the car with the dealer service department. They said they could not duplicate my complaint. They said I should take pictures. Can't take pictures when it happens three or four times a month. I think there is something wrong with the engine am afraid of fire or failure of the engine.
On Friday, June 28th, we were driving the Ascent, towing our 4100 lb. camper from Tehachapi, CA, headed north toward Las Vegas. When we stopped for gas in Tehachapi, we checked all fluids including the oil. Then at about 86 miles outside of Las Vegas coming up a steep grade in hot conditions, we hear a noise that sounded like it could be valve flutter. We drove for another minute (there was no shoulder), and noted that no warning lights were on. Then we heard a louder knocking sound and saw the oil temp indicator start moving quickly to hot, and immediately pulled off onto the shoulder. After our tow to the Las Vegas Subaru dealer, it became apparent that the battery was also dead (this was the second battery replaced under warranty, and we have had to jump both batteries at least monthly over the last 2 years). Last Monday, June 14, Subaru notified us by phone on a recorded line that the investigation had concluded. They determined towing excessive weight to be the cause of the engine failure (thrown rod). We verified the make and model and registration of our camper with Subaru, which at a dry weight of 4134 pounds, is 100 lbs. less than the Airstream used in Subaru's promotional materials. We disclosed to Subaru that the camper has few miles on it and we tow with empty tanks and less than 100 pounds of cargo (2 adults and one toddler). We also told them that on our two prior trips towing, the transmission has revved frequently and it sounds like it can't find the right gear. Subaru has not provided us a copy of either inspection report, and we have been without the vehicle for nearly a month. We are asking Subaru to repair the engine under warranty (39k miles). This sudden failure put our family's safety at risk. We were forced to stop the car in the middle of a high-speed highway without safely moving to an exit- we waited in excessive heat, barely off the road in deep sand without a shoulder for an hour- we were almost hit by a semi truck as we braked.
Driving from Tehachapi, CA toward Las Vegas towing our camper at about 45-50 mph, we started hearing a knocking that sounded like valve flutter. We drove for about 1 minute looking for a safe place to pull over, but then the knocking grew louder and the oil temp started to rise, so we immediately braked and pulled into the sand (no shoulder). There were no warning lights at any point until we actually pulled over (oil light). After the tow to Subaru Las Vegas, we noted that the battery was dead. On 6-14, Subaru of America told us on a recorded line that the two investigations had concluded and the cause was towing excessive weight. We shared our camper registration and specs with them, showing a dry weight of 4130 pounds, 100 less than the airstream used in Subaru's marketing materials (we tow with empty tanks and less than 100 lbs. of cargo. We also indicated to Subaru of Las Vegas and SOA that on our few previous trips with the camper, we noticed the Ascent revving hard on slight inclines and that it sounded like it struggled to find a gear towing. SOA has not shared a copy of either report. We are asking SOF to repair under the warranty (car has 39K miles). We will asked for the defective engine whenever we are able to pick up the vehicle. We spent over $1000 between towing, flights home from Vegas, renting a substitute vehicle, etc.. Most importantly, this sudden catastrophic failure could have killed us-the failure was so swift (the time from hearing the noise to being stationary was less than a minute and a half) and without warning that we didn't have time to react well and had to pull off into deep sand with no shoulder- a semi truck almost rear-ended us as we pulled over. Then we had to wait in the Mojave heat, arm's length away from traffic whizzing by with my toddler and puppy while the tow truck arrived. The Ascent is the vehicle we purchased to be able to evacuate our family from our wildfire-prone home, so every day we are without it poses risk.
Unknown. Electrical failures including eyesight, the dealers lie about the work they do, the latest was recent - they said sludge was everywhere which causes the timing to be off and said the entire engine needed to be replaced but refused to do so. I do not trust they were honest about the spot welds, as my VIN and contract were mysteriously changed after I took delivery. Battery dies, amp dies, head unit stops functioning for months at a time. Eyesight slams on brakes at last minute. I am told it’s normal to shut up and leave. For example the last time I took it in less than 30 days ago they said they changed the filters as well. They did not. According to them they owe me a new engine. I have Starlink and documents oil is changed by Subaru yet they claimed they had no record, and it is my fault so I need to replace engine.
ALL WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON LAST WEEK MAY 5TH 2021 WHILE I WAS DRIVINGTHECARHONE AFTER DROPPING MY DAUGHTERTOSCHOOL. I PULLED OVER AND CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS ADVISE TO TAKE THE CAR IN. AS I DROVE THE ENGINE STARTED TO LAG AND ICOULDNOTDRIVE MORE THAN 45MILES. TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND FOUND OUT THE TRANSMISSION WAS BAD. THIS CAR IS 2 1/2 YEARS OLD AND I'VE HAD SO MANY PROBLEMS WITH IT. WHEN THE CVT WAS REPLACED THE CAR NEVER RUN THE SAME, I'VE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALERSHIP SEVERAL TIMES AND LET THEM KNOW THAT THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. IT LAGS AND HESITATE DURIBG ACCELERATION. UNFORTUNATELY THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE ISSUE AND THAT IT WAS NORMAL. THEN THIS HAPPEN. I HAVE REPORTED THE ISSUE TO SUBARU OF AMERICA.

DARK GRAY-BLUE SMOKE FROM THE EXHAUST ON START-UP, LASTING FOR SEVERAL MINUTES. LARGE PLUMES WITH STRONG NOXIOUS ODOR. SMOKE AND FUMES HAVE TRIGGERED SEVERAL SEVERE ASTHMA ATTACKS. NOTED ON MOST DAYS, SINCE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED NEW IN APRIL 2019. FUEL EFFICIENCY IS FAR LOWER THAN THE 21-27 MPG CLAIMED BY SUBARU. ACTUAL AVERAGE IS 14 MPG.
Mileage: 10
SEVERAL TIMES OUR 2019 SUBARU ASCENT BATTERY HAS DRAINED DOWN TO LOW LEVELS REQUIRING JUMP STARTS. THIS LAST TIME WAS THIS WINTER AND -15 DEGREES OUTSIDE AND WAS VERY DANGEROUS FOR HER. THE ALTERNATOR DOES NOT SEEM ABLE TO KEEP UP WITH THE LOAD. I HAVE HEARD OF MANY OTHER PEOPLE HAVING THIS PROBLEM. IT SAT OVERNIGHT ON BOTH OCCASIONS.

CAR JUST DOESNT START AND NEEDS TO BE JUMPED RANDOMLY, YET DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPT COULD FIND NO PROBELMS. ALSO WIERD LAGS, NOISES OCCURING WHILE DRIVING. THIS CAR IS TOO NEW AND HAS 18,000 MILES ON IT, SHOULDNT BE HAVING THESE TYPES OF PROBLEMS. HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES SINCE PURCHASE 2019 AND 2020, MOST RECENT JAN 2021 BROUGHT INTO DEALERSHIP SERVICE LARRY MILLER SUBARU BOSIE ID.
THE ENGINE KEEPS STUTTERING WHEN DRIVING AND SLOWING DOWN TO STOP AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT. COUPLE OF TIMES, IT SHOULD SHUT DOWN AND I HAVE TO RESTART THE CAR. I DO ENSURE THE CAR IS WARMED UP TO A MINIMUM OF 7-10 MINUTES BEFORE STARTING. IT ONLY STARTED RECENTLY BUT I AM WORRIED THAT THIS WILL HAPPEN MORE AND SUDDENLY STOP WHEN DRIVING AND ME GETTING INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT.
Mileage: 22,000
AT ONLY 17.6K MILES, THE BATTERY IN MY 2019 SUBARU ASCENT WAS COMPLETELY DRAINED OVERNIGHT, FOR NO LOGICAL REASON. I CALLED SUBARU ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE TO GIVE ME A JUMP AND I LET IT RUN FOR 33 MINUTES THEN TOOK IT FOR A 10 MIN DRIVE. THE BATTERY WAS DEAD AGAIN THE NEXT MORNING. VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY OVERNIGHT AND UNTIL THE 10 MIN DRIVE. DURING THIS TIME THE TAILGATE WOULD PERSISTENTLY BEEP, TRYING TO OPEN.

MY FUEL PUMP WAS REPLACED (ACCORDING TO THE DEALER) BASED ON THE MOST RECENT RECALL. HOWEVER NOW IT IDLES AND RUNS ROUGH JUST A SHORT TIME AFTER THIS SERVICE. I RECENTLY READ THERE IS ANOTHER LAWSUIT OR ISSUE WITH THIS FUEL PUMP AND THE SYMPTOMS ARE THE SAME.

VEHICLE BLOWS OUT WHITE SMOKE UPON START UP, THIS IS A HIT AND MISS PROBLEM. THIS IS AFTER THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN PARKED OVER NIGHT, BUT HAS OCCURRED AFTER PARKED FOR A COUPLE OF HOURS, IT HAS BEEN SENT TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES

MY WIFE AND I PURCHASED A NEW SUBARU ASCENT IN FEBRUARY OF LAST YEAR. SINCE THEN INTERMITTENTLY THERE IS A LARGE BLUE/GRAY CLOUD OF SMOKE THAT COMES FROM THE EXHAUST WHEN THE CAR IS STARTED. HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO THE LOCAL DEALER FOR REPAIR 4 TIMES AND THEY REPLACED A PART THE FIRST TIME BUT SINCE THEN SAID THAT THEY ARE NOT ABLE TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. ACCORDING TO THE ASSISTANT SERVICE MANAGER AT THE DEALER THEY HAVE SEEN THIS PROBLEM BEFORE AND SUBARU AMERICA IS ALSO AWARE BUT HAVE SAID "(THAT THERE IS NO FIX FOR THIS PROBLEM)". AT THE SECOND AND THIRD VISITS THEY HAD SAID "(THEY WERE GOING TO CHANGE A PART IN THE CAR BUT THEN DECIDED NOT TO BECAUSE THE REPRESENTATIVE FROM SUBARU OF AMERICA SAID IT WOULD NOT HELP)". THE SERVICE REPORTS FOR THESE VISITS ONLY STATE THAT THEY ARE NOT ABLE TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE DEALER THEN SAID THAT ANY SOLUTIONS WOULD HAVE TO COME FROM SUBARU OF AMERICA. ACCORDING TO SUBARU OF AMERICA THEY HAVE NOT SEEN THIS PROBLEM BEFORE AND THEY OFFER NO REMEDY. FROM WHAT I HAVE LEARNED THIS PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE KNOWN TO SUBARU. I KNOW OF ONE PERSON THAT STATES HIS "ENGINE BLEW" ([email protected]) AFTER HE HAD HIS CAR EVALUATED BY SUBARU, AFTER MANY MONTHS THEY AGREED TO REPLACE HIS ENGINE. HERE ARE SOME COMMENTS FROM OTHERS EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM HTTPS://WWW.ASCENTFORUMS.COM/THREADS/NEW-ASCENT-UNEXPECTED-BLUE-SMOKE-FROM-EXHAUST-AT-START-UP-AND-ACCELERATION.8920/ HERE'S A LINK TO VIDEOS OF MY CAR: HTTPS://WWW.DROPBOX.COM/SH/FTDE39F4RSZ3V5E/AACLJXFUCHHFBRAB-JKSEFHIA?DL=0 AS WELL AS A LINK TO A YOUTUBE THREAD WITH OTHERS STATING A NEW ENGINE WAS NEEDED. HTTPS://WWW.YOUTUBE.COM/WATCH?V=E8CN3D4EJIC I BELIEVE THIS PROBLEM MIGHT POSE AN IMMINENT RISK TO ANY DRIVERS OF THIS VEHICLE AND WOULD WELCOME ANY HELP ENCOURAGING SUBARU TO TAKE THIS MATTER SERIOUSLY. THANKS
I HAVE A 2019 SUBARU ASCENT. ON JULY 2, MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING ON A RURAL ROAD WHEN OUT OF NOWHERE THE CAR STARTED VIBRATING AND RATTLING AND HIS SPEED WENT FROM 60 MPH DOWN TO 30 MPH IN A MATTER OF SECONDS AND THE CAR STARTED FLASHING INFORMATION ON THE DASH. AND THE CAR SHUT OFF. HE GOT OFF THE ROAD AND CALLED AAA. IT WAS AN HOUR AND A HALF BEFORE THEY GOT THERE. NOTHING AND NOBODY WAS AROUND AND HE HAD TO BEG THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER TO LET HIM AND OUR ELDERLY DOG RIDE TO THE NEAREST SUBARU DEALERSHIP WHICH WAS ABOUT 50 MILES AWAY. I WAS ALREADY AT THE BEACH AT EMERALD ISLE NC AND HAD TO GO PICK HIM UP AT PARKWAY SUBARU IN JACKSONVILLE NC. THIS WAS ON JULY 2,2020. TODAY, JULY 11, WE STILL DON'T HAVE MY CAR BACK. I AM THANKFUL THAT PARKWAY DEALERSHIP LOANED US A CAR TO GET BACK TO RALEIGH WHERE WE LIVE AND BOUT OUR CAR, AT SOUTHERN STATES SUBARU. PARKWAY HAS TOLD US VARIOUS THINGS THAT COULD BE THE PROBLEM. FOR FOR SEVERAL DAYS THEY HAD TO GUESS AS THE SUBARU HEADQUARTERS IT WAS 'DOWN'. AS OF NOW PARKWAY STILL HAS MY CAR AND I HAVE THEIR LOANER SUBARU OUTBACK. THIS WAS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AND COULD HAVE CAUSED A CRASHED AS WELL AS LEFT MY 65 YEAR OLD HUSBAND AND DOG STRANDED ON THE SIDE OF A VERY RURAL ROAD. THIS IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE AND WHAT I THOUGHT WAS A VERY RELIABLE SUBARU ASCENT HAS GREATLY DISAPPOINTED. PLEASE HELP!!

CAR SHAKES WHEN IT IS NOT IN MOTION. WHEN THE CAR IS STOPPED ON THE ROAD, OR BRAKES ARE ENGAGED THE CAR WILL VIOLENTLY SHAKE. WHEN THE CAR ENGINE IS STARTING THE CHECK ENGINE LIKE FLASHES.
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT - DIAGNOSIS ' VEHICLE LOSES POWER AFTER RAPID ACCELERATION ABOVE 45MPH. A WHOOSHING SOUND OCCURS AND THEN ACCELERATION IS LIMITED. ALL WARNING LIGHTS FLASH INCLUDING 'CHECK ENGINE.' THIS HAS OCCURRED ONCE ABOUT A MONTH AGO AND DIAGNOSED AS A POORLY REPLACED GAS CAP'ALTHOUGH IT WAS ACTUALLY ON SECURELY. IT OCCURRED 2 WEEKS LATER 3 MORE TIMES WITHIN TWO DAYS. I BROUGHT IT IN WITH THE LIGHTS ON AND ISSUE STILL OCCURRING TO SUBARU PACIFIC. THEY CLEARED CODES AND TRIED TO RECREATE ISSUE WITHOUT SUCCESS. THEY RELEASED THE CAR BACK TO ME AFTER CORPORATE DEFERRED TO THEM. UPON DRIVING OUT OF DEALERSHIP, THE SAME THING HAPPENED ONLY AFTER ACCELERATION ABOVE 18 MPH'ALL WARNING LIGHTS BACK ON AND SPUTTERING/JERKING/LOSS OF POWER. WHOOSHING SOUND. DEALER IS IN POSSESSION OF THE CAR AGAIN TO LOOK INTO IT. ALSO, THERE TENDS TO BE A GREY-BLUE HUE TO THE EXHAUST EACH TIME CAR STARTS.

AFTER HAVING DRIVEN THE ASCENT FOR 30 MINUTES OR MORE, TURNED OFF VEHICLE FOR ABOUT 15 MINUTES. AFTER RENDERING THE VEHICLE IT WOULD NOT START. THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED, COASTED VEHICLE DOWN SLIGHT GRADE TO SIDE OF ROAD, AND AFTER A FEW MINUTES IT STARTED AGAIN. THE SECOND TIME IT HAPPENED, IT WOULD NOT START AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS. CONTACTED SUBARU THOUGH IT'S STARLINK PROGRAM. THEY TOLD ME TO HOLD KEYLESS STARTER BUTTON FOR 30 SECONDS, THEN TRY TO START AGAIN. AFTER DOING THIS THE CAR STARTED.

FRESH FUEL SMELL FROM THE VEHICLE (ENTERING THE CABIN WHILE DRIVING AND UPON PARKING). UPON ARRIVING HOME YESTERDAY, THE SMELL WAS STILL VERY STRONG. I WENT A STEP FURTHER AND PULLED THE OIL DIPSTICK TO CHECK THE LEVEL AND TO SEE IF THAT'S WHERE IT WAS ORIGINATING FROM. SURE ENOUGH, THAT IS WHERE I AM SMELLING IT. I WENT SO FAR AS TO WIPE OFF THE DIPSTICK AND CHECK ONCE AGAIN WITH THE SAME RESULT. I ALSO NOTED THAT THE OIL LEVEL IS WELL ABOVE THE HIGH MARK. MY MAIN CONCERN IS THE RISK FOR DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE GIVEN THAT IT APPEARS THAT FUEL IS MIXING IN WITH THE OIL.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2019 SUBARU ASCENT. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 19V856000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) AND 19V855000 (POWER TRAIN). THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE GPS UNIT WAS INOPERABLE. FURTHERMORE, WHILE AT A STOP SIGN/LIGHT, THE VEHICLE WOULD ACCELERATE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL CLUNKING, SQUEAKING NOISE DETECTED FROM THE STEERING/SUSPENSION. ALSO, WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE SHUDDERED AND SHOOK FORWARD AND BACKWARDS, AND THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER DOORS MADE AN ABNORMAL BUZZING NOISE. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO PUENTE HILLS SUBARU (17801 E GALE AVE, CITY OF INDUSTRY, CA 91748, (626) 626-4800) MULTIPLE TIMES AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS WORKING AS DESIGNED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: SR#:1-50458273772. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,000.

THE CAR WILL EMIT WHITE HEAVY SMOKE ON START. THE WHITE SMOKE SMELLS LIKE BURNED PLASTIC/OIL. THE ISSUE WAS REPORTED TO SUBARU CORPORATE AND VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO SERVICE FOR INSPECTION. A VIDEO WAS RECORDED AND SENT TO BOTH DEALER AND CORPORATE BUT ISSUE COULD NOT BE REPLICATED. THE ISSUE STILL PERSISTS FOR MORE THAN 3 MONTHS AND SUBARU COULD NOT RESOLVE IT. THIS IS A CONCERN TO MY FAMILY SAFETY AND TO THE ENVIRONMENT. SECOND ISSUE WAS WITH SPRING ASSEMBLY BOTH FRONT AND BACK HAS TO BE REPLACED AS DEFECTIVE.

AT 16462 MILES ON ODOMETER, WHILE DRIVING ON HI WAY AT 65 MPH VEHICLE LOST POWER AND STARTED SMOKING SEVERELY FROM THE TAIL PIPES. PULLED OVER AND SHUT OFF. RESTARTED SEVERAL MINUTES LATER CONTINUED TO SMOKE AND WOULD NOT MOVE. TOWED TO DEALER, THEY STATED THE PCV VALVE BROKE APART, SUBARU WANTS THEM TO TEAR DOWN THE ENGINE TO SEE HOW MUCH DAMAGE WAS DONE. STILL WAITING FOR THEM TO DO ANYTHING, CAR IS SITTING OUTSIDE IN THE SERVICE AREA NOT BEING WORKED ON.

MY NEW VEHICLE HAS EXPERIENCED COMPLETE ELECTRICAL MALFUNCTION WHILE DRIVING. VEHICLE UNEXPECTEDLY TURNS ON ALL WARNINGS AND DISABLED ALL SAFETY FEATURES TO INCLUDE COLLISION AND BLINDSIDE MONITORS. AS INDICATED BY MANY OTHER SUBARU OWNERS, THE PROBLEMS WERE DIAGNOSED BY SUBARU TO BE RELATED TO A LOOSE TRANSMISSION HARNESS. SO FAR SUBARU HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL TO INSPECT ALL 2019 AND 2020 SUBARU ASCENT TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY. WE ARE SUPER SCARE OF DRIVING THE VEHICLE WITH THE IDEA THAT IT CAN STALL IN MID DRIVING.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2019 SUBARU ASCENT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL NOISE AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED AND FUNCTIONED AS INTENDED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO NAPLETON SUBARU DEALER (505 N PERRYVILLE RD, ROCKFORD, IL 61107 (877) 403-5984) ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS AND WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE OVERHEAD UNIT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS ALSO TAKEN TO BE DIAGNOSED AT JAMESVILLE SUBARU DEALER (3519 RYAN RD, JANESVILLE, WI 53545 (608) 743-9595) WHERE THEY DIAGNOSED THAT THE STABILIZER BAR NEEDED LUBRICATION. IT WAS UNKNOWN IF THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND TWO CASE NUMBERS WERE OPENED UNDER 144125212915 AND 1-459841535478. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,801.

ALMOST 9500 MILES, RAINING OUTSIDE WIFE DRIVING NORMAL SPEED (HIGHWAY DRIVING) AND EYESIGHT STOPPED WORKING AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. VEHICLE STILL RAN. SECONDLY TOOK TO LOCAL SUBRAU DEALERSHIP FOR 10,000 SERVICE THEY FOUND NOTHING WRONG AND DID SERVICE. WIFE LEFT DEALERSHIP AND NOTICED CAR PULLING TO LEFT AFTER TIRES ROTATED. RETURNED TO DEALERSHIP , THEY SAID IT WAS NORMAL FEATHERING OF TIRES. WORRIED EYESIGHT AND ENGINE CAN BE AFFECTED WITH RAIN. ALSO AT A FEW HUNDRED MORE MILES WE NOW SMELL BURNING OIL ON AND OFF OUTSIDE OF CAR. WE HAVE ALSO EXPERIENCED HIGH REVVING MOTOR WITH NO FOOT ON GAS PEDAL.(STATIONARY WHEN SMELLING BURNT OIL SMELL AND MOTOR REVVING. ALSO ONCE HIGH REVVING WHILE MY 17 YEAR OLD WAS CITY DRIVING. WITHIN MY FIRST TWO WEEKS (200-300 MILES) OF OWNING THE VEHICLE I WAS TOLD BY STEVENS CREEK SUBARU THAT THE CAR WAS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE AND HERE WE ARE AGAIN. ANOTHER FAILED STRUT. SO BY DEDUCTION, IT'S UNSAFE TO DRIVE BUT THAT HASN'T STOPPED SUBARU FROM PUTTING ME BACK IN IT, FULLY AWARE THAT THE STRUT HAS FAILED VERIFIED AT 20,000 MILES BUT PROBLEM STARTED 12,000 MILES AGO. IN MOTION THIS IS A PROBLEM EVERYWHERE. SAFETY ISSUE. SUBARU IS NOT MAKING ME DRIVE FOR ALMOST A MONTH WITH A FAILED STRUT, WAITING ON PARTS. LET'S TALK ABOUT BRAKES NEXT... SO THEY REPLACED THE FRONT PADS WITH "SPECIAL" BRAKES, HAND DELIVERED FROM JAPAN. WHY? WHAT ARE THESE "SPECIAL" PADS AND HOW ARE THEY DIFFERENT? I REALLY WANT TO KNOW WHAT'S DIFFERENT ABOUT THESE? ARE THEY SOFTER? WILL THEY WEAR OUT FASTER? I'M NOT HONESTLY THRILLED THAT THEY RESURFACED THE ROTORS. AGAIN... BRAND NEW CAR... BRAND NEW ROTORS... NOW THEY HAVE EXTRA "WEAR" AS A RESULT OF THE BAD BRAKES FROM THE FACTORY AND THEY WILL WEAR OUT FASTER. WOULD HAVE PREFERRED THEM TO BE REPLACED. THIS ONLY ADDS ADDITIONAL OUT OF WARRANTY COSTS TO ME IN THE END. ESPECIALLY IF THE NEW PADS ALSO WEAR QUICKER. SAFETY WE JUST BLINDLY APPLIED THE ECU FIRMWARE UPGRADE WITH NO PRE-DRIVE TEST TO VERIFY THE PROBLEM. WHICH WAS WHY THE CAR WAS LEFT OVERNIGHT IN THE FIRST PLACE INITIALLY. SO WE HAVE NO DOCUMENTATION OF THE ISSUE JUST THAT WE FLASHED THE FIRMWARE. FROM MY TESTS THE PAST TWO MORNINGS IT SEEMS BETTER AND POSSIBLY RESOLVED BUT AGAIN, THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN PROPERLY DOCUMENTED AND TESTED AND WAS NOT. THE SURGING ENGINE CONDITION / TRANSMISSION GEAR RATIO HUNTING PROBLEM WAS NEVER VERIFIED BY THE DEALER. THEY BLINDLY FLASHED THE FIRMWARE AND ALSO DIDN'T ROAD TEST AFTER THE FACT. THERE ALSO STILL AN UNDIAGNOSED TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. ADDITIONALLY THERE'S MANY MORE THINGS WRONG WITH MY CAR BUT YOUR FORM LIMITS ME TO THREE AT A TIME.

I WAS IN TRAFFIC AND THE DASH- STARTED FLASHING AND EVERYTHING AT ONCE STARTED SHUTTING OFF AND THEN BRAKE WAS APPLIED ON ITS OWN. VERY SCARY WHILE IN TRAFFIC- I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR A TOW TRUCK FOR OVER 3 HOURS. DIALS: AT OIL TEMP FLASHES, ALL ELECTRONIC THINGS IS ALL OFF AND LIT. TRANSMISSION AND BRAKING ISSUES- ALL AT ONCE. CITY STREET BRADDOCK RD AND I PULLED OFF AT KINGS PARK SHOPPING CENTER IN FRONT OF WELLS FARGO AND CVS, STATIONARY.

DRIVING ON FREEWAY CHECK ENGINE CAME ONLINE SUDDENLY. EYESIGHT TURNED OFF. CAR BECAME UNSTABLE, COULD NOT GO PAST 60 MPH. KIDS IN FREKING OUT. VERY UNSAFE. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP. THEY COULD NOT FIGURE OUT. I DID ONLINE RESEARCH AND FOLLOWED THESE FORUMS HTTPS://WWW.ASCENTFORUMS.COM/FORUM/137-SUBARU-ASCENT-COMPLAINTS-ISSUES-PROBLEMS/1981-CHECK-ENGINE-LIGHT-11.HTML APPARENTLY EARLY SUBARU MODELS HAD 2 BOLTS MISSING IN THE ENGINE AIRTIGHT COMPARTMENT. ATLEAST 2 OTHER PEOPLE HAVE COMPLAINED. I HAVE DRIVEN SO MANY MILES SUBARU AS NOT ISSUED A TSB AND A RECALL. I WAS PLANNING TO TAKE LEGAL ACTION AS THIS A UNSAFE THING TO DO. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS. I HOPE YOU COULD ENSURE ACCOUNTABILITY AND HONESTY W/ SUBARU. I AM EXTREMELY FRUSTRATED. DID SUBARU DELIBERATELY HID THIS FROM CONSUMERS? PLEASE CHECK THIS FORUM THREAD AGAIN HTTPS://WWW.ASCENTFORUMS.COM/FORUM/137-SUBARU-ASCENT-COMPLAINTS-ISSUES-PROBLEMS/1981-CHECK-ENGINE-LIGHT-11.HTML
