My HORN only works if car is stopped steering wheel turned to the left. Subaru Dealer says it’s in the steering column mechanism that affects airbag and cruise control also. Says it will cost over $600 to repair. If it preventsthe airbag working, wouldn’t it be a car defect and considered dangerous?

My sunroof glass just shattered spontaneously while I was driving. Thankfully the door was closed or me and my daughter would have been showered by glass while in the road. Nothing hit the car , I just heard a loud bang over my heard and when I stopped to see what happened my sunroof was in pieces!
A transmission that was replaced in July of 2023 went bad un December of 2024 and dealership won't give reasons why transmission went bad or what caused a almost brand new transmission with less than 50,000 miles on it went bad. They are demanding we pay $5000.00 dollars on a transmission that was replaced under the extended warranty on cvt transmission from subaru. Which also extends to the brand new transmission. They are demanding their loaner car back and refusing to honor extended warranty on new transmission which the gave us which is bad. They will not give us anything other than it is bad. No information what so ever is being given to my husband or I as to why, how or what happened. My car will not move unless it is pushed by someone. They are refusing to honor their recall warranty or provide a loaner while dealing with their corporate offices on this issue. This is after in the past 1 and a half years my car has been in their shop for well over 8 months and I am still making payments on this vehicle. They will not even provide paperwork on the issues with my vehicle.
The horn stopped working on my vehicle. This puts my safety and other driver's safety at risk since I can not alert them if they are coming into my lane. I contacted Subaru Customer Advocacy but they are not willing to fix this problem. I checked the online forums and this seems to be a common problem.
iNFOMATION UNIT STOPPED WORKING AND HAS MOISTURE FOG INSIDE OF IT. I WAS USING IT FOR THE MAP ROUTE IN AN AREA THAT I WAS NOT FAMILIAR WITH WHEN IT STOPPED WORKING. I DO NOT KNOW HOW MOISTURE COULD GET IN A SEALED UNIT BUT IT IS OVER $22,000. TO REPLACE IT. PERHAPS THIS DOES NOT QUALIFY AS A SAFETY ISSUE BUT IT WAS FOR ME SINCE I NEEDED DIRECTIONS AS TO HOW TO GET HOME.
The child safety lock on the passenger side will not disengage. Our child is old enough now to operate the door safely but she cannot open the door from the inside. I feel that this is a great safety concern and the dealer should take care of the cost. When we asked if it could be fixed the dealer expressed that it would be on us for all charges. This is a manufacturer defect and should be rectified immediately. Thank you.
On my drive in to work this morning, the sunroof on my outback shattered with a loud bang. Fortunately the inside sun shade was closed, otherwise I would have been showered with glass while driving 50mph on the expressway. How does this happen? There were no trees overhead, no cars or trucks near me, the temperature was not especially hot or cold. And, I would think the glass would have a film or something that would hold the pieces together in the unlikely event that it would break!
While driving on 55mph road, sunroof suddenly shattered for no apparent reason (no sudden impact from rock or other debris), producing a loud bang, startling driver. Driver momentarily swerved due to being startled by noise from next to head before correcting. No other cars were around on the road at the time and driver is sure no rocks or other objects fell onto sunroof (covered by rooftop cargo box, no trees near street to drop debris). Pieces of glass went upwards and ended up on roof of vehicle.
The car experienced sudden reverse acceleration when the gear was switched to reverse. I had to floor the brake pedal to have the car stop. I was fortunate behind me was enough of grassy area for the car to stop. Yes, I am sure I wasn't pushing gas because eventually after hard pressing the brakes the car stopped. Afterwards I tried pushing both and it was impossible to push both hard as the foot slips off the brake pedal.
Purchased this car in 2019 from dealer as a pre certified vehicle. Replaced original battery(dealer said it was)in 8/2021. As I had to have it jumped, battery drain. 6 years old. So I replaced. I have had numerous battery drain since, jumped numerous times. Dealer will say I left something on, NO I didn't. They check and can't find issues. So, I purchased a battery jumper pack. I'm 64yrs old female. Don't need this worry, is my cr going to start. Please help. As I've read numerous other 2015 outback owners are having same issues and Subaru won't address them.
The car regularly drains the battery. We are the original owners and have had to purchase 3 car batteries thus far. The car does not provide any warning messages or report any issues. Every time the battery has been drained it happens without explanation, over a dozen times since we’ve owned the car. We’ve always had the batteries inspected, and they’ve been in good contention with life left in them, just drained, needing a recharge. Unfortunately, the car counties to drain the battery, leaving me stranded, including at night away from home. The details for the incident I will be providing below will be for the most recent, this morning.
Outback 2015 Windshield cracked with no obvious reason even at about 30 mph.
I have had to have my battery replaced almost every year since I bought this car and there is always a large amount or corrosion no matter how often I clean it. I just read that this has been a known issue of Subaru. I literally just had the dealership in late November tell me at an oil change that I needed to replace my battery. When I informed them that I had just replaced it in February of of this year when I stopped for gas in the middle of the Texas winter storm and my car would not start back up (That battery was only about a year and a half old), they blamed the cold weather and suddenly backpedaled saying it just seemed low so I should keep an eye on it. Yesterday, my car took two tries to start so I am going to have the battery tested again but this means I haven't even gotten a full years worth out of it.
I previously wrote to you back in mid-Sept. 2021. It was a problem with battery drainage on my Outback and the fact that many other Subaru owners were having the same problem. #[XXX] was the case # that I was assigned. I proudly purchased my 2015 Subaru Outback, new, in April 2015. I currently have less than 18,000 miles on it. During the time I have owned my Outback, I have had to replace the battery 5 times, through no fault of my own. Subaru USA and my Subaru dealership say that I do not drive it enough. B/S. I have done some research online and have found many other Subaru owners who are constantly having battery problems and dead batteries. I understand some have filed a Class Action Suit. The problem appears to be that the battery drains down on a regular basis. Now when I put my car in my garage at night, I turn the headlights off completely, the radio off, the A/C off, and I do not set my parking brake for fear all of the above will drain my battery overnight. I am even afraid to set my car alarm. I have had to call AAA each time the battery has gone COMPLETELY DEAD. They are tired of seeing me. Fortunately for me, each time the battery has died, I was at home and my car in the garage. I am a senior citizen who is afraid my battery will die when I am not close to home. I purchased a Subaru because of its so-called reliability. I am tired of Subaru giving me the runaround and trying to make it look as though I am the problem. I, for the life of me, don't understand how this problem has been swept under the rug by Subaru for so LONG. When I chose the Outback, I had done my homework and went first to the LA Auto Show and the Outback, back then, appeared to be my dream car, which has turned into a nightmare for me. I had a Sienna for 15 years and only replaced the battery twice. PLEASE have your staff seriously look into this Subaru battery drainage problem. I am certainly not alone with this problem. Each time I go to start up my Outback, I have to hold my breath and keep my finger and toes crossed. Subaru USA has given me little or no answer to my problem. My dealership again tells me I have to drive more. The other Subaru owners must not drive enough!!!
This car has had 5 batteries. The charging system tests fine. It’s not safe.
Excessive battery drain from open back hatch while parked and engine off. Having my back liftgate open while my engine was off for a 30 minute period drained my battery so that I could not start my vehicle. Had not my friends been there to jump me I would have been without transportation miles from home. No warning light was given by the vehicle. Others with this vehicle have had similar issues and it is an easy issue to find complaints about. A service center has not been contacted yet but I plan on speaking with my dealership soon. This problem blindsided me completely.
Windshield randomly cracked on its own. Similar issue as other have reported in past. Begins on passenger side in wiper park near heated zone and continues up across windshield for 12 inches or so. Car was parked, nothing hit the windshield.

I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AND THE VEHICLE STOPPED, ROLLED TO A STOP, AND WOULDN'T START UP AGAIN. THIS RESULTED IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. I PUSHED THE HAZARD BUTTON BUT THE OTHER DRIVERS ACCOUNT OF THE ACCIDENT WAS THAT THE LIGHTS WERE OFF. THE CAR HAD ITS EPB REPROGRAMMED AND SUB RELAY REPLACEMENT DONE ACCORDING TO THE DEALERSHIP. I HAD NO PRIOR PROBLEM WITH THE CAR STOPPING UNEXPECTEDLY. I WAS KNOCKED OUT BY THE ACCIDENT, SO I DIDN'T HAVE MUCH TIME TO SURMISE WHAT THE PROBLEM MAY HAVE BEEN. IT MUST HAVE BEEN LIKE 30 SECONDS FROM THE TIME IT STOPPED UNTIL WE WERE HIT BY 3 CARS AT FREEWAY SPEEDS.

RAPID ACCELERATION - THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE TO OUR SUBARU. THE FIRST INCIDENT WAS ABOUT A YEAR AGO. MY WIFE WAS DRIVING AND I WAS THE PASSENGER. WE DROVE INTO OUR DRIVEWAY AND SAT THEIR TALKING WHILE THE GARAGE DOOR OPENED FOR A FEW MINUTES. HER FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE THE ENTIRE TIME. SUDDENLY THE OUTBACK SURGED FORWARD AT A RAPID SPEED. THANK GOD FOR SUBARU EMERGENCY ACCIDENT BRAKING SYSTEM THAT STOPPED THE VEHICLE WITHIN INCHES OF OUR BACK GARAGE WALL.I REMEMBER MY WIFE SAYING "WHAT JUST HAPPENED? I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING WE WERE JUST SITTING THEIR MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND IT JUST LUNGED AHEAD RAPIDLY. I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING TO STOP THE VEHICLE OTHER THAN STEP ON THE BRAKE. RAPID ACCELERATION #2 - THIS HAPPENED TWO WEEKS AGO AND I WAS DRIVING WITH NO PASSENGERS. I WAS PULLING INTO OUR GARAGE AND AGAIN THE OUTBACK RAPIDLY SURGED AHEAD. I STOOD ON THE BRAKES TO STOP AND HAD NO RESPONSE. THE EYE SIGHT EMERGENCY BRAKING SYSTEM KICKED IN AND STOPPED THE VEHICLE WITH A PANIC STOP. I AM POSITIVE IN BOTH CASES WE WERE BRAKING THE VEHICLE AND OUR FOOT WAS NOT ON THE ACCELERATOR. I FEEL UNSAFE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE. IF SOMEONE IS STANDING IN FRONT OF THIS VEHICLE WHEN IT RAPIDLY ACCELERATES THEY WILL BE INJURED OR KILLED AND I DON'T WANT TO EVER SEE THIS HAPPEN. THE ELECTRIC TAILGATE SOMETIMES MALFUNCTIONS AND GETS STUCK IN AN OPEN POSITION, AND CAN ONLY BE FORCED CLOSED MANUALLY BY A STRONG PERSON. MY GIRLFRIEND HAS TROUBLE CLOSING IT, AND WAS FORCED TO DRIVE HOME WITH THE TAILGATE OPEN. THIS IS UNSAFE - THE TAILGATE STICKS OUT PAST THE BACK OF THE CAR, FOLLOWING TRAFFIC CAN'T SEE HER TAIL LIGHTS, AND EXHAUST GAS CAN BE DRAWN INTO THE CAR. I'VE HAD A SIMILAR PROBLEM WITH MY FORESTER. CONTINUOUS VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (CVT). THE VEHICLE STOPPED WHILE MAKING A LEFT TURN SUDDENLY MOTIONLESS, ENGINE REVVED UP AT 3500 RPM BUT THE CVT REMAINED UNRESPONSIVE. PACED SHIFT GEAR TO PARK POSITION THEN TO DRIVE GEAR THEN THE VEHICLE MOVED-UP VERY SLOW THEN IT PULLED FORWARD TO A NORMAL DRIVEABLE CONDITION. THIS ISSUE HAPPENED IN 2017, 2018, 2019. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP 2X TESTED THE VEHICLE BUT, NO PROBLEM FOUND AND NO MANUFACTURER'S ISSUE WAS RELEASE. SEVERAL SUBARU OWNERS COMPLAINTS WITH THE SAME ISSUE, ON 2013 - 2015 OUTBACK MODELS.THE BATTERY ON 2015 OUTBACK MODEL LIKE MINE, HAD REPLACED IN 2017 WHILE UNDER WARRANTY UP TO 3 - YEARS. LATELY, THE BATTERY DIED SEVERAL TIMES, TOOK BACK TO THE DEALER FOR TEST AND REPLACEMENT BUT, THE 3 - YEARS WARRANTY WAS OVER FROM ITS ORIGINAL PURCHASED. THE WARRANTY SHOULD BE APPLIED ON THE SECOND BATTERY REPLACEMENT THAT RUNS FOR THE NEXT 36 - MONTHS. ANOTHER ISSUE IS THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER THE VEHICLE HAS, TOOK BACK TO THE DEALER LAST JULY 2020, A SRVICE ADVISOR ADMITTED THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM, THE VEHICLE DROVE FOR TESTING THEN CAME BACK WITH NOTHING WRONG ON THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER PER MECHANIC ASSESSMENT. THE FRONT EXHAUST PIPE WAS CRACKED AND IT WAS REPAIRED AS PART OF MANUFACTURER RECALLS. THERE ARE ISSUES ON THIS MODEL REFERRING TO THE CVT, BATTERY, INFOTAINMENT GOT FREEZED, NO DATA ON SCREEN, ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION TO FAST. THE MAIN ISSUE FOR ME IS THE "SAFETY ISSUE." WHICH IS THE TRANSMISSION. FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED WAS IN 2017, 2018, 2019.

VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH SUBARU'S "EYE SIGHT" SYSTEM, WHICH PROVIDES PRE-COLLISION BRAKING AND IS INVOLVED WITH LANE DEPARTURE WARNING. THE EYE SIGHT SYSTEM IN MY CAR IS INTERMITTENTLY INOPERATIVE WHILE THE CAR IS IN MOTION. SOMETIMES, THE SYSTEM BEGINS WORKING AGAIN, THEN TURNS OFF, TURNS ON, ETC. IF EYE SIGHT IS INOPERATIVE AS THE CAR COMES TO A FULL STOP, THE INOPERATIVE WARNING MESSAGE USUALLY DISAPPEARS, BUT THE MESSAGE RETURNS SHORTLY AFTER THE CAR BEGINS MOVING AGAIN. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING EVERY TIME THE CAR IS IN MOTION FOR THREE WEEKS.

RECEIVED SUBARU RECALL (WUJ-95) ON AUG,3.2020 PERTAINING TO EXHAUST PIPE BELLOW FAILURE. THE RECALL INCLUDES REPLACEMENT OF THE EXHAUST Y-PIPE THAT IS INSTALLED FROM ENGINE TO TALE PIPE. THIS EXHAUST PIPE IN MY UNDERSTANDING WAS INSTALLED UNDER A STRESS MANUFACTURING PROCESS WHERE THE PIPE AND FASTENER SYSTEM HAS TO BE FORCED IN TO INSTALL. THIS PUTS EXCESS STRESS ON THE BELLOWS AND CAUSED FAILURE. MY QUESTION IS WHY DID SUBARU WAIT FIVE YEARS TO NOTIFY THE CONSUMER AND ISSUE A RECALL. PLEASE RETURN MY REQUEST FOR A FULL EXPLANATION OF WHAT HAPPENED. 2ND. I WOULD LIKE TO ADDRESS THE CVT TRANSMISSION ISSUE. SUBARU EXTENDED THE TRANSMISSION FAILURE TIME LINE TO 10YR-100,000 MILE. CHILD LOCK ON BACK PASSENGER DOOR IS LOCKED DOWN SO YOU CAN'T GET OUT UNLESS SOMEONE FROM OUTSIDE OPENS. I NEVER USED THE CHILD LOCK AND HAVE NO IDEA HOW IT GOT DOWN. REAR GATE OPENING: IT HAS HAPPENED SO MANY TIMES. I HAVE COMPLAINED DIRECTLY TO SUBARU ABOUT THE SEAT AND GATE PROBLEM. NO RESULTS. THE REAR GATE HAS OPENED WHILE RAINING OUTSIDE DURING THE NIGHT. IT HAS OPENED WHILE IN THE GARAGE JAMMING THE OVERHEAD GARAGE DOOR. I AM AFRAID ON TRIPS TO HAVE STUFF STOLEN OUT OF MY CAR IS SUCH AN INCIDENT. HAPPENED ONCE. ALSO... THEY HAVE A CUTE PRESET SO YOU CAN SET THE MAX HEIGHT OF THE GATE OPENING. TWICE MY WIFE HAS WALKED INTO THE REAR GATE AND LITERALLY FLIPPED BACKWARDS TO THE PAVEMENT! SUBARU DENIES ANY PROBLEMS ABOUT THE GATE. FUNNY, ONE DAY I WAS HELPING A FRIEND AND HER MOM WAS THERE. AS THEY HELPED ME UNLOAD MY SUBARU WE DISCOVERED THAT MOM HAD ALSO A SIMILAR MODEL. I DID NOT NOTICE THIS CABIN EXHAUST SMELL IN THE SUMMER DUE TO USING THE AC ON RECIRCULATE. THE EXHAUST SMELL WAS ESPECIALLY NOTICEABLE WHEN I WAS IDLING WAITING TO PICK UP MY KIDS AND SITTING AT TRAFFIC STOPS. I BROUGHT MY VEHICLE IN TO A SUBARU DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT MY CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS CRACKED AND SHOULD BE REPLACED. THIS WAS WHEN MY CAR WAS AT 80,829 MILES AND THEY ACTUALLY HAD THE PART ON HAND. I AM ASSUMING THAT THIS HAPPENS TO THEM QUITE FREQUENTLY SINCE STOCKING A $1500 ON HAND WOULD NOT BE THE BEST USE OF INVENTORY. THE REPAIR COST $1940 SINCE MY EMISSION WARRANTY WAS BARELY OUT DUE TO THE 829 MILES. I EXPLAINED TO THEM THAT THIS WAS HAPPENING WAY BEFORE THE 80,000 MILES, BUT THEY REFUSED TO COVER IT UNDER WARRANTY. I FEEL THAT HAVING EXHAUST ENTERING THE CABIN SHOULD BE AN EXCEPTION TO THE WARRANTY, ESPECIALLY WHEN KIDS LIVES ARE INVOLVED. I HAVE OWNED ALOT OF CARS AND NEVER SEEN A WINDSHIELD THAT IS SO FRAGILE. I HAVE CHANGED MANY, MANY WIPER BLADES AND I KNOW WHAT A QUALITY WINDSHIELD IS. I SET THE WIPER BLADE HOLDER DOWN ON THE WINDSHIELD GENTLY AND IT CRACKED, THE CRACK GREW ACROSS THE WINDSHIELD IN A DAY OR SO. RIDICULOUS. THESE WINDSHIELDS RUN ABOUT 500 BUCKS AND SHOULD BE BETTER QUALITY. I ALSO HAVE ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS WHERE MY CAR CLOCK WILL NOT SET... CURRENTLY. SERVICE MANAGER ACTUALLY ARGUED WITH ME AND CLAIMED THAT YOU COULD FEEL A POINT OF IMPACT WHERE A ROCK "MUST HAVE HIT" AND BLAMED THAT FOR THE CRACK. I CAN FEEL NO POINT OF IMPACT AND WAS IN FACT DRIVING THE CAR WHEN THE CRACK HAPPENED AND KNOW THAT NOTHING HIT THE WINDSHIELD. DESPITE THE CLASS ACTION SUIT AGAINST THESE WINDSHIELDS, SUBARU IS STILL NOT WILLING TO REPLACE IT AFTER THEIR "CLOSE AND CAREFUL" INSPECTION THAT TOOK ABOUT 10 SECONDS. THEY TOLD ME THE WARRANTY WOULD NOT COVER IT. THEY CLEARLY KNOW THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THESE WINDSHIELDS AND ARE DOING NOTHING TO CORRECT IT, EVEN REFUSING TO REPLACE ONES THAT DO HAVE A PROBLEM. BESIDES BEING A BAD BUSINESS MOVE FOR SUBARU, THIS SEEMS LIKE A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE FOR CONSUMERS.

HOWEVER, SUBARU OF AMERICA REFUSED TO PAY THE FULL AMOUNT TO HAVE A NEW SHORT BLOCK INSTALLED AS EVEN THOUGH MY CAR WAS MAKE IN 2014 IT IS TECHNICALLY A 2015 THAT THE CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT ONLY PROTECTED CONSUMERS OF MODELS PRIOR TO 2015. ALSO, IN THE FALL OF 2018 THE INTERIOR OF THIS VEHICLE BEGAN TO HAVE A EXHAUST SMELL AND WAS MAKING ME FEEL SICK. IT ALL MOST MADE US SICK. LUCKILY I GOT IT CHECKED AT THE SERVICE CENTER AND THEY FIND THE LEAK. THIS IS POTENTIALLY A VERY RISKY THING FOR PEOPLE WHO DON'T NOTICE THE SMELL MIGHT GET SLOW POISONED WITH CARBON MONOXIDE OR OTHER ELEMENTS IN EXHAUST FUMES. THERE MAY BE DIRECT INJURY FROM THIS ISSUE BUT AS I SAID I WAS ALMOST GOT SICK BECAUSE OF FUMES. FOR PEOPLE WITH PZEV VEHICLE, THE EXHAUST SYSTEM IS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. PLEASE BRING THIS ISSUE WITH MANUFACTURING. AFTER I TALKED TO MY WIFE AND VERIFIED THAT SHE HAD RECEIVED NO DAMAGE FROM THE INCIDENT I CALLED THE GILLMAN SOUTHWEST HOUSTON SUBARU DEALERSHIP WHERE WE BOUGHT THE CAR ON MAY 30 2015 AND MADE A SERVICE APPOINTMENT FOR THE NEXT DAY. DURING THE SERVICE CHECK-IN ON FEBRUARY 2, 2016 TOGETHER WITH THE GILLMAN SERVICE CONSULTANT WE LOOKED AS THOROUGHLY AS IT WAS POSSIBLE THROUGH THE GLASS DEBRIS TO TRY TO FIND ANY FOREIGN OBJECT THAT MIGHT HAVE CAUSED THE DAMAGED BUT WE DID NOT FIND ANYTHING. I VERY SPECIFICALLY REQUESTED THAT WHEN THE SUNROOF WAS TAKEN OUT OF THE CAR FOR REPLACEMENT THAT THEY PERFORM ANOTHER SEARCH SINCE IT WOULD BE EASIER TO DO THE SEARCH WITH THE SUNROOF ASSEMBLY OUT ON THE FLOOR. WHEN THE CAR WAS REPAIRED AND RETURNED THE GILLMAN REPRESENTATIVE CONFIRMED THAT THEY HAD DONE ANOTHER SEARCH BUT FAILED TO FIND ANY FOREIGN OBJECT ON THE GLASS DEBRIS. BECAUSE THE DEALERSHIP DID NOT HAVE A SUNROOF ON STOCK I LEFT THE CAR ON THE DEALERSHIP UNTIL FEBRUARY 5, 2016 WHEN THE CAR WAS RETURNED. SUBARU DEALER SAID THAT THE CRACK MAY HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY AN IMPACT BUT AGAIN I DON'T RECOLLECT ANY IMPACT THAT COULD CAUSE THIS. THE SUBARU DEALER SAID HE DID HIS PEN POINT CHECK AND THE CRACK WAS NOT CAUSED BY SUBARU'S FAULT. WHAT THE SUBARU DEALER TOLD ME ABOUT THE PEN POINT CHECK MAKES NO SENSE TO ME ESPECIALLY AS THERE HAS BEEN NO IMPACT TO MY WINDSHIELD. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED THAT SUBARU AND THE DEALER ARE LYING ABOUT THE FAULTY WINDSHIELD AND ARE REFUSING TO REPLACE IT (WHICH I AM ASSUMING IS ALSO A FAULTY OEM PART). I HAVE OWNED SEVERAL CARS BEFORE AND I'VE NEVER HAD THIS ISSUE BEFORE. I REPEAT, NEVER BEFORE ON ANY CAR, ESPECIALLY A NEW CAR. I HAVE HAD IT IN TO THE DEALER 3 TIMES AND HE IS UNABLE TO FIX IT EVEN AFTER REPLACING BOTH BLIND SPOT SENSORS. THIS PROBLEM STARTED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS BRAND NEW AND CONTINUES TO DATE. WHEN THE TEMPERATURE DROPS BELOW 40 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT, THE POWER LIFT TAILGATE MAY NOT OPEN OR LOCK PROPERLY UNTIL THE CAR HAS ACHIEVED A STABLE INTERIOR CABIN TEMPERATURE OF 70 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT OR HIGHER. THIS PROBLEM STARTED IN OCTOBER OF 2015, NOT LONG AFTER THE VEHICLE HAD EYESIGHT SYSTEM RECALL SERVICE. A COUPLE OF WEEKS BEFORE THIS I WAS DRIVING AND HEARD A VERY LOUD POPPING NOISE. IT MADE ME JUMP AS I THOUGHT THE WINDSHIELD WAS GOING TO SHATTER BUT NOTHING HAPPENED. I HAD RECEIVED A LETTER FROM SUBARU ABOUT WINDSHIELD CRACKING PROBLEMS SO I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP. I TOOK IT IN SO THEY COULD TAKE A PICTURE. AT THAT TIME I ALSO REPORTED PROBLEMS WITH THE DEFROSTER NOT KEEPING THE WINDSHIELD CLEAR ESPECIALLY ON RAINY DAYS AND NIGHTS. DURING OUR DRIVE HOME I CALLED OUR INSURANCE, SUBARU (WHERE PURCHASED) AND GLASS COMPANY. I FOUND THAT GLASS ON MY OUTBACK WAS AT LEAST 6 WEEKS OUT. AFTER 6 WEEKS I WAS AGAIN TOLD THE GLASS REMAINS ON BACKORDER. IT WAS FINALLY REPLACED BY SAFELITE ON AUGUST 25TH. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS. I WASHED THE CAR ON TUESDAY 8/11/15 AND THERE WAS NO CRACK THEN. THE CRACK WAS FIRST NOTICED BY A PASSENGER ON 8/12/15. THE CRACK SEEMS TO BE GETTING LARGER. THE SUBARU DEALER WILL NOT COVER THE REPLACEMENT UNDER THE WARRANTY, BUT I KNOW NOTHING HIT MY WINDSHIELD. THE CAR IS ALWAYS KEPT IN MY GARAGE WHEN NOT IN USE.

MY FIRST THOUGHT WAS DEFECT IN THE GLASS SINCE THE TEMPERATURE THAT DAY WAS APPROX. 93 DEG. 7/29/15 - I WENT TO THE NEARBY DEALERSHIP AND UPON INSPECTION BY THE SERVICE DEPT. WAS TOLD "A ROCK HIT THE WINDSHIELD" WHICH CAUSED THE WINDSHIELD TO CRACK. MY RESPONSE, "HOW COULD A ROCK HIT UNDER THE WINDSHIELD WIPER WHERE THERE IS NO EVIDENCE OF A ROCK HITTING IT?" THE COST TO REPLACE THE WINDSHIELD IS OVER $700.00, NOT COVERED BY SUBARU WARRANTY AND THE WINDSHIELDS ARE BACKLOGGED BY 4-6 WEEKS SINCE THERE NONE IN STOCK. I RETURNED HOME DISCOURAGED AND IMMEDIATELY PULLED UP NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE 2015 WINDSHIELDS CRACKING. 7/30/15 - I WENT TO THE DEALER WHERE I PURCHASED MY CAR, ARMED WITH 19 PAGES OF WINDSHIELD COMPLAINTS. THE SERVICE DEPT REP INSPECTED THE WINDSHIELD AND ALSO SAID "A ROCK HIT THE WINDSHIELD" BUT SAID THIS IS COMMON OCCURRENCE, WINDSHIELDS WERE IN SCARCE SUPPLY AND NOT COVERED BY SUBARU WARRANTY. HOWEVER, HE WAS ABLE TO LOCATE THE LAST WINDSHIELD THEY HAD IN STOCK AND RESERVED IT SO I NOW HAVE A REPAIR DATE IN A WEEK. I AM STILL GOING TO HAVE TO PAY THE $700.00 WHETHER IT IS COVERED BY MY INSURANCE COMPANY AS COMPREHENSIVE OR CASH OUT OF POCKET. I QUESTIONED THE SERVICE REP ABOUT THIS OBVIOUS DEFECT, THICKNESS OF THE GLASS AND THE HEATING ELEMENT UNDER THE PASSENGER SIDE WIPER AND OTHER VEHICLES HIT BY SMALL PEBBLES WHERE "PITTING" WOULD OCCUR BUT NOT CRACKING WHEN HIT. AS A GOOD SERVICE REP, HIS ANSWERS WERE EVASIVE BUT EMPATHETIC, WHICH LED ME TO BELIEVE THIS ISSUE IS BEING IGNORED BY SUBARU. I SAW NO EVIDENCE OF A STONE HITTING THE WINDSHIELD AND THOUGHT THERE WAS A STRUCTURAL DEFECT. TOOK THE CAR TO OUR DEALER WHO DID A "PEN TEST" ON THE EXTERIOR OF THE WINDSHIELD. THE PEN TIP, INDEED, CAUGHT IN THE CRACK AND THE REPAIR PERSON SAID THAT INDICATED A ROCK HIT AND WE JUST HAD UNFORTUNATE LUCK. THE SYSTEM STARTS WORKING AGAIN IF THE CAR IS STOPPED, AND THE ENGINE IS TURNED OFF AND ON - UNTIL OF COURSE THE NEXT RANDOM FAILURE. THIS IS A CASE OF A "FALSE NEGATIVE" ERROR, BECAUSE THE THE SIDE BLIND-SPOT MIRRORS INDICATE THAT THE SIDES ARE CLEAR TO PASS, WHEN THEY MAY BE NOT. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN PREFERABLE WITH A "FALSE POSITIVE" ERROR, NAMELY THE SIDE BLIND-SPOT MIRRORS INDICATE THAT THE SIDES ARE NOT CLEAR TO PASS EVEN IF THEY ARE! WHAT IS TRULY ALARMING IS THAT THE DEALER WAS NOT ABLE TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM CODES EVEN AFTER KEEPING THE CAR OVERNIGHT FOR FURTHER TEST DRIVES. SINCE MY FAMILY HAS COME TO RELY ON THIS SAFETY SYSTEM IT IS POTENTIALLY A VERY SERIOUS HAZARD. ALSO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT KEPT THE CAR OVER NIGHT AND DROVE IT WITH NO PROBLEMS. AS THEY ALL HAVE TOLD ME IF NO PROBLEM HAPPENS WHEN THEY HAVE IT THEY CAN NOT FIX IT. I BELIEVE THE CHIP APPEARED AFTER THE CRACK FORMED, BUT CANNOT PROVE THIS (NOR CAN THE DEALER PROVE THE OPPOSITE). ONLINE RESEARCH SUGGESTS THERE IS A DESIGN DEFECT IN 2015 SUBARU OUTBACK WINDSHIELDS, WHICH FAIL AT REMARKABLE RATE.

WE TRIED TO GET A NEW WINDSHIELD IN SARASOTA, FL OUR FIRST DESTINATION. LOCAL AUTO GLASS COMPANY RECOMMENDED BY SARASOTA SUBARU DEALER ATTEMPTED TO ORDER ONE TO REPLACE DURING OUR WEEK IN TOWN. THEN CALLED TO ADVISE US IT WOULD BE AT LEAST ANOTHER WEEK. WE WERE INFORMED THERE WAS A NATIONWIDE BACK LOG OF OVER 600 WINDSHIELDS FOR THE 2015 SUBARU OUTBACK. ON 4/27/2015 CONTACTED THE SUBARU DEALER IN SILVER SPRING, MD. FOR POSSIBLE REPLACEMENT DURING OUR SECOND STOP OF TRIP. WE WERE AGAIN ADVISED OF A BACK LOG ON THAT WINDSHIELD. THEY SUGGESTED TO CONTACT THE DEALER NEAR MY HOME. ON 4/27/15 CONTACTED INTERNATIONAL SUBARU OF TINLEY PARK, IL AND ALL STAR GLASS AS RECOMMENDED BY DEALER. WINDSHIELD ORDERED 4/27/2015 AND WAS ADVISED AGAIN OF A NATIONWIDE BACK ORDER OF 2015 SUBARU OUTBACK WINDSHIELDS BY GLASS COMPANY AND MY DEALER. AS OF 5/14/15, NO WINDSHIELD AVAILABLE, CHECK BACK IN ANOTHER WEEK. SUBARU DEALER AT HOME THINKS IT WAS CAUSED BY A SMALL STONE. INDEPENDENT MECHANICS THINK THERE IS A PRESSURE POINT ON THE VEHICLE THAT AFFECTED THE WINDSHIELD. IF THERE IS NOT A CONTRIBUTING VEHICLE PROBLEM WITH THE WINDSHIELD THEN WHY THE VERY LONG BACK LOG FOR A NEW VEHICLE WINDSHIELD? REALLY THAT MANY 2015 SUBARU OUTBACKS WITH WINDSHIELD PROBLEMS? AND, 3 DIFFERENT DEALERS IN 3 DIFFERENT PARTS OF THE COUNTRY ARE HAVING DIFFICULTY GETTING THE PART. HE JUMPED ON THE SIDE AND SURVIVED BY AN INCH OR SO. WITHIN A FRACTION OF A SECOND, THE VEHICLE HIT THE CENTER SUPPORT WHICH SUPPORTS THE GARAGE DOORS, THEN THE SNOW BLOWER AND FURTHER STRUCK THE ITEMS KEPT AGAINST THE WALL BETWEEN THE HOUSE AND THE GARAGE, BEFORE COMING TO A STOP. IT APPEARS THAT, IN ADDITION TO THE BRAKE I APPLIED, EYESIGHT MAY HAVE HELPED STOP THE VEHICLE. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING IN THE US FOR OVER 18 YEARS WITHOUT A SINGLE INCIDENT.
