Driving on a flat dry road with cloudy conditions we heard what sounded like a shotgun. Pulled over and found our Moonroof exploded. I have dashcam video with audio of the explosion as well as photos and video of the damage immediately after
The key gets stuck in the ignition when turning off the ignition.
The design of the dashboard along with the dashboard screen has a very poor design that makes it nearly impossible to see when the sun is out. When the sun is out and especially when driving towards the sun during sunset and sunrise, the dashboard reflects back the light onto the windshield making it essentially impossible to see objects that may be on the side of the road. Even with polarized sunglasses, I often find myself having to reduce my speed on 50 mph zones by as much as 30 mph under the speed limit in order to give myself enough time to potentially see hazards that would be unseen at higher speeds do to the severe glare. Without sunglasses, even driving during the middle of the day, the dashboard reflects light off the windshield that can make it nearly impossible to see objects, especially objects that are only visible on the lower third of the windshield. This faulty design has almost caused me to hit cyclist and or joggers on the road even going substantially below the speed limit due to being blinded by the sun. The second issue I have is with the backup screen on the dashboard. Whenever any sun hits the dashboard screen, it is essentially useless as the sun almost completely makes it impossible to see where I'm backing into. The vehicle has not been inspected by anyone or any law enforcement, but I do feel this is a serious safety hazard and the design of the dashboard in that it reflects light right back into the windshield makes for an undue stressful experience and a very huge liability.
Subaru was not willing to cover the cost to replace their faulty gear shifter. My key gets stuck in the ignition. This problem has been confirmed by a dealership. No warnings happen, it gets stuck. This is a safety issue because I have to leave my keys in my car (unlocked) and come back for them when the car decides to recognize that it is in park. This is a know issue and Subaru wiped its hands of me and said deal with it by yourself.
Car was being driven on the highway in cruise control, when the cruise control turned off and the car began to decelerate. When the gas pedal was pressed, the RPMs shot up but there was no acceleration. The car was pulled over, turned off, and we were not able to turn it on again. The car was towed to a shop, where they were able to identify the engine wasn’t working but not the root cause, and also mentioned the possibility of there being a transmission problem. We then brought it to a Subaru dealer, and they said a similar thing without being able to diagnose anything more specific. This car is 8 years old and has had routine, consistent maintenance the entire time. The surprise of an engine failure with no warning is very alarming and dangerous.
We have a Subaru 2017 and have had to replace the windshield TWICE. In each instance a small rock flew up and cracked the windshield. I have owned different models of cars for years and have NEVER had to replace a windshield twice? Is there a manufacturing defect in these windhshields? Both times we have taken it to a Subaru dealer to have the windshield replaced and we ordered Subaru windshields NOT an after market product. I will upload the documents from the two dealers when I can but I just wanted to see if this is a common issue? Looking online it seems to be.
My windshield (which has had multiple class action lawsuits) cracked spontaneously sitting in my driveway. I contacted Subaru of America and they denied any responsibility and claimed there is no assistance they can provide. This crack has gone from about half of my windshield to nearly the entire windshield horizontally. This is clearly a defective product as numerous complaints have been made by owners of multiple Subaru models including the Outback. This is indeed a huge safety concern along with a very unfortunate lack of accountability by Subaru of America.
I drive 2.5miles to work, Tuesday [XXX], I was turning into the parking lot and my car just cut off. I couldn't use flashers, restart it, put it in park or anything else. I called my husband to come help. I thought maybe the battery cable might have come loose. It was dead. I couldn't get out, if I let my foot off the brake it would roll backwards, going into the road and I didn't want it to hurt anyone. It started smoking from the drivers front side of engine. I called my husband back and said please hurry. It took approximately 7 minutes for him to arrive. I was on the phone about the smoke when he drove up behind me. He told me to get out of the car it's on fire. He tapped my bumper to keep my car from rolling backwards. I jumped out, called 911.He had sandbags in the back of his truck. He put them under the back tires so it couldn't roll into the traffic. A lady stopped that had a fire extinguisher and [XXX] attempted to put the fire out. It was getting quite large. We couldn't open the hood, he could only spray it in the wheel area up front. He had to get back the fire was getting big. The car then exploded. It was so loud, fire and smoke. I went into work and asked to be let off for that day. I smelled like smoke and my lungs hurt. I inhaled so much smoke. My daughter got me a breathing treatment setup to help with breathing. The fire department came and put the fire out. They were so kind. No police showed up, so we only have a fire department report. The tow truck showed up and took my car away. When we got home we notified our insurance agent. :engine failed, if I had been on a busy street I would have been hit. The car just stopped where it was. Yes our insurance adjuster said it could be looked at by anyone. :Yes my safety and the ones around me were put at risk. My lungs are still suffering. :no it's not been reproduced by anyone I know of. :no, there was no indications that pointed at something being wrong. Horn stopped working. When I lock the car the horn makes noise notifying it is locked. I took it into the dealership they think it’s is the clock spring. Then I looked online and found this information. “The 2017 Subaru Outback was subject to a recall related to the steering column, specifically the clockspring. This recall (NHTSA Campaign #10V-283 / WVR-28) addressed potential issues with the electrical wiring in the steering column that could lead to steering wheel component malfunctions.” Why is my vehicle not included in the recall?
My battery continues to die leaving me stranded every winter for the past several years. It is a known issue I believe with the wiring/ fuse for the trunk hatch door. Subaru only offers a new battery - so every year I replace the battery and then end up stranded somewhere again.
While driving on main road sunroof spontaneously exploded! Speed 55 mph, temp mid 60s. This occurred 11-2-24 about 6pm. Clear weather, open road. I purchased the car new in 2017 and have never even opened the sunroof as I don't like them and car is always garaged when not in use. It has only 27,773 miles on it. No one was hurt but very scary. Will take it to dealership tomorrow, 11-4-24, as the entire center of sunroof is gone with only edges of glass remaining around the perimeter. I will have mechanic report tomorrow (today is Sunday
My Windshield was replaced on [XXX] for a spontaneous crack occurring behind the review mirror and where the eyesight is located. The crack was very long and serpentine-like. There was no history of "rock" damage. On [XXX] , 6,807 miles on city street driving early in the morning, another crack in the replacement windshield occurred spontaneously. I took the car to ONE Subaru of Hayward and they wanted $250 to tell me the window was cracked. Their first response was it is a result of a rock. This is the exact location and pattern of breakage as the window was replaced in [XXX]. I have 3 Subaru outbacks, and my daughter's 2015 broke in the exact location twice. My daughter's car was in the garage for two weeks while on vacation. Her Vin [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The key gets stuck in alt position, can’t turn completely off. Can’t get unstuck until I repeatedly turn the engine on, shift into drive, shift back into park and turn off again.
I experienced sudden acceleration in downtown and almost hit three cars, caused me to run three red lights and almost hit pedestrians. I had the car, 2017 outback Subaru towed to the dealer and was told there are no recalls, but saw many problems listed on the NHTSA website. It was terrifying and still shakes me up when I think what could have happened. Subaru told me this was the first they have seen this and that I do not have the extended warranty and I would be held for the cost. I am beyond upset. They tried to have me pick up the car after finding nothing. I told them they are to keep it until they find the issue. I have a loaner from them.
headlights large amount of water condensation. decreases amount of light and could cause to fail
Noticed rust bubble in the inner and outer paint of the driver front door pillar December 2021. Noticed it was getting substantially worse and reported it to Subaru July 2022. They said there was no pinhole in the rust and would not be covered. Showed it to Subaru again in 2023, and said it is not covered under their 5 year rust plan. It is now January 2024, and the paint as well as base metal is peeling from the door. It is clear there is damage to the base metal, and represents a weakened location in the door/frame/pillar structure should there be a rollover accident. Bought this car for its safety reputation. Online forums have noted that Subaru has replaced doors for this same premature failure of the door in the same location on multiple vehicles.
The eyesight system not functioning and at this point has not been repaired and is available for inspection. Warning notices were intermittent with warning sound’s coming on each time. Eventually the warnings came on nearly all the time. I was alone in the dark and very nervous. no other injury Yes the vehicle was taken to dealer, also I took photos as it continued to intermittently occur. Yes there were warning notices that alerted me. Note: dealer states non OEM windshield is cause , however windshield has been in vehicle fo nearly 2.5 years with no issue. Other electrical issue has occurred since eyesight issue.
I was in a parking lot. I stopped in order to pull into a spot. The vehicle suddenly accelerated and jumped forward. I pushed hard on the brake and put car into neutral. This could have resulted in a crash. Don't understand how this could occur. My foot was not on the gas pedal.
The automatic back hatch came down with out pushing button or key fob. The fob was in the ignition and nobody was around to push the button to make it go down. It caused damage to my spine and gave me a concussion. Capitol Subaru of Salem Oregon said it was a Glitch that happens sometimes when wires get crossed. After they inspected. Plus changed information on our documents without our knowledge. It did go to Subaru for almost a month the said they found nothing in the EDR report. So they feel I do not need to see it.
Windshield cracked for no reason. Started at the bottom beneath hood and continued to grow. This will be the 4th windshield replacement on this car.
Head unit fails to respond to commands, freezes up, and/or shuts off.
Ignition switch fails to revert to last forward position, so unable to remove key. So far have been able to start, stop, and generally go forward, reverse, keep manipulating key and ignition position until it works again.
Can not remove ignition key at times. Have tried all suggestions on line. It can take up to five minutes of various things to ge it out. It is never the same . Mary
Yesterday the windshield began to spontaneously crack. This is the THIRD windshield in this vehicle to do this. All three windshields cracked starting in an area below the hood line, so stone chips are highly improbable. We bought this vehicle new. That windshield we replaced in 2018. Then we put another new windshield in in 2020. I believe, as I did when I filed a previous complaint in 2020, that there's a structural issue with the car that causes this undue stress.
Secondary hood lock lever not functioning, spring is missing.
We have owned our previously owned Subaru Outback 2017 for 18 months and have replaced the battery 3 times. We are now on our 4th battery. That battery turnover seems rather excessive, doesn't it? My thoughts: 1. Phantom drain 2. Short (harness or wires cut by abrasion) 3. Programming (shut alternator off to increase mpg) 4. Faulty programming - see 3.
I experienced 2 incidences of sudden unexpected acceleration (SUA), the second one led to an explosive collision. Subaru asked that I sign the EDR release but refused to give me (rightful owner) a copy. With significant effort I obtained a copy of the EDR for myself. It is near impossible for the consumer to obtain their rightful copy, significant because it stinks of poor transparency for Subaru to investigate Subaru (see below). Once I obtained my copy, I released the EDR to Subaru and my vehicle was inspected by SOA at our local dealership. For some untold reason, the vehicle would "not to be released to me" at the end of the day but was held for additional time at the dealership. Later Customer "Advocacy" informed me that the results of the investigation was that the throttle was active 1.5 seconds prior to impact and that it was a case of "pedal misapplication". Because I also had the data I was acutely aware of how SOA cherry picked data to match their own narrative. I know for a fact what happened considering all the data, together with the actual facts of this potentially fatal accident. I was pulling straight into the parking spot, yet the EDR MISTAKENLY "thinks" that the car is turning sharply to the right the entire time (EDR shows this and why PBS not active). The electronic sensors are being fed ERRONEOUS information. With the steering wheel 'supposedly' at full lock, the power steering pump is told to spin faster to maintain pressure. The computer tries to pick up speed for this and sends an electronic message to open the throttle. The rpms suddenly surge and the vehicle explodes forward leaving only a fraction of a second to react before impact (at which point EDR confirms brake was on). Intermittent failures in electronic sensors do in fact happen as experts know. Incredibly, SOA refused to hear me. I am concerned for the safety of other Subaru drivers as well as those in the path of a Subaru SUA incidence. Ignoring this can have fatal consequences.
Windshield Cracked for no apparent reason. Parked the car in front of the house for a few hours. When I came out the windshield had a 6" crack (starting at the bottom of the windshield going up then towards the passenger side of the vehicle). by the next day it was more than 12".
front windshield cracked spontaneously during extreme cold while front defroster was running set on high. no overhead objects. no other cars or vehicles on the roadway. 15 mph. crack is in the windshield wiper resting area extending from the black edge to the center, in a horizontal crack, bilaterally.
2 yo 2017 Subaru Outback was left untouched for 2 weeks. When trying to start, it had a dead battery. 2 years later, 2017 Subaru Outback was left untouched for 1 week. When trying to start, it had a dead battery. 2017 Subaru Outback was left untouched for 2 days. When trying to start, it had a dead battery with a 1 - and 8 month old battery. Basically, when this 2017 Subaru Outback hasn't been started every day, it will have a dead battery.
Battery goes dead, known problem with unusual drain on battery due to electrical issue. If car sits unused for a few days, battery dies.
We have replaced the battery every 2 years.
Battery was defective.
Our car battery does not hold a charge. One year ago January we had Triple AAA replace the battery after several problems starting. This year we have had 3 calls to Triple AAA to charge the battery. It starts right up when they apply the charger--alternator tests as working properly, battery tests OK once charged--but the problem keeps happening. I am now afraid to take it anywhere where I might be stranded. Got a card about a class action lawsuit against Subaru regarding battery drainage issues. I mentioned this to the Triple A tech who mused, "You know, I have had a lot of dead battery calls in the last year for Subarus." Since AAA changed that battery a year and a half ago, he said if it happens again, they will replace the battery because it is under their warranty. The Subaru dealership has not sent us a recall notice. It seems they are not accepting responsibility for this defect. What is an owner to do?
1st battery failure within 3 years of purchase of vehicle. Jumped 3 times in 2 mths. Purchased new battery (interstate)10/7/2020 Today 09/12/2022 same issue began. Car shows no issues with battery failure. Drove on Sun. to church and around for a little drive, no issues. Left home Monday afternoon, gone couple of hours, not stop and go traffic. Turned off ignition. After about 30 min went to start car and nothing. Just complete nothing. 8:36 p.m. AAA .comes to jump battery - drove home. AAA man said the battery was totally dead and that I needed a new one
2017 Subaru Outback -- have nearly 50K miles on it. Suddenly the key is not removing from the ignition key slot. I looked this up and see this is a recurring problem in Subarus. I anticipated it can't cost a huge amount to take care of this problem. See people have quoted $500 / $600, or more, and that was a few years ago! Are you kidding? That's ridiculous and not in a cost range I can afford! It's obviously a Subaru flawed design.
I was pulling into a parking lot. The attendant told me to back our 2017 Outback into a spot running along a fence and row of trees. I pulled forward, put my foot on the brake to fully stop. I then moved from "drive" to "reverse". Immediately, the engine started to rev very loudly as if my foot was on the accelerator (it was not!). The accelerator seemingly went to the floor and within a few seconds our car was in reverse at high speed. The only thing that stopped us was a maple tree and fence that we hit - about 15-20 yards behind us. The backend of the car is pushed in, including into the cabin, the rear window shattered etc. The fence is destroyed and tree damaged. My spouse, in the passenger seat, experienced a minor concussion and we both ended up with severe whiplash. If it weren't for the tree we would have just kept going. We are waiting on State Farm claim adjustor to see the car. I did inform Subaru (where the car was towed) what happened; they didn't seem particularly interested. We did get a police report. Thankfully, no one was hit. There were no signs of any problem with the accelerator prior to this incident. I am now, however, aware of numerous complaints and suits in related cases.
I arrived at my destination. I turned the ignition OFF. The engine turned OFF. I opened the driver's door and the engine turned ON. I did not turn the ignition ON. I again turned the ignition OFF. This time the engine remained OFF.
Battery continually drains. I have had 2 replaced since May. I have contacted Subaru and they said I just have not driven it around enough after battery install. I have had them check for a drain, and they can’t find anything. There are no lights on or any other reason to drain the battery. This coincides with my key becoming stuck in the ignition. Waiting on a part to replace the ignition under warranty.
The battery of the car keep dying, leaving us stranded in what could possibly be unsafe situations. We have gotten the battery checked out numerous times at the dealership, plus got a battery replacement in October 2020 but it still keeps occurring. This is a 2017 Outback with less than 30,000 miles, so should not be happening.
2017 Subaru Outback windshield breaks when a small rock hits it. This is the 4th times happen to our Vehicle and a very expensive cost to replace it about $1000. We are very upset about it.
My windshield cracked for no apparent reason (no impact) - in the bottom quarter of the passenger side. The crack spread, requiring replacement of the windshield. I had Subaru replace the windshield. Exactly one week later, the new windshield cracked in exactly the same place. It, too will require replacement.
I started having battery issues with my car. I had my car at the mechanic for a regular state inspection. They told me that I had a bad battery that it had died numerous times. I was shocked because I had never jumpstarted my car in the past. I began to believe the dealership sold me the car with a bad battery. I knew this because I tried to drive the car out of the lot when I first purchased and the battery was dead. They told me to come back the next day and they would have a new battery in it. I guessed then that they never replaced the battery. So I then purchased a new battery from the mechanic. 6 months later my car wouldn't start. I had left nothing running in the car. The next day my car started. Then 2 months later, my husband drove my car to get food. He parked the car for 5 minutes and went in to get the food. When he came back, the car wouldn't start again. We had to jumpstart it. I believe something is wrong with the car overall, causing the battery to drain without the consumer's knowledge, this is a safety concern as it leaves the consumer stranded wherever they are. My husband was left sitting there with my daughter until I could come pick them up. The outback will just die without warning. I tried calling the dealer about it, they didn't return my call. I now scheduled an appointment to have them look at it. I will see what they say, however it seems like other consumers of this car are having the same issues.
A spontaneous crack began at the bottom, center of my windshield about a week ago and began inching up and over. It is continuing to grow while I try to figure out where and when to have it replaced. I live in the mountains and this is not an easy trip to the dealer. While searching for a dealer to replace the windshield, I found the problem with spontaneous cracks in other Outbacks.
On 2/13/22 I started my vehicle to move it back into the garage. Upon putting it into 'Drive' the engine unexpectedly started to ramp up the RPMs accelerating the vehicle forward. Fortunately I had my foot on the break slowing the progression and I was able to switch the gear to 'Neutral'. At that point the engine began to continue to ramp up the RPMs. I tried depressing and releasing the accelerator to see if the engine would respond and decrease the RPMS, it did not. I then switched off the engine to keep it from accelerating/increasing the RPMs. About five minutes after the initial incident I started the vehicle. Immediately upon startup the vehicle RPMs starting to ramp up. I tired depressing and releasing the accelerator to see if the engine would respond and decrease the RPMS, it did not. I then switched off the engine to keep it from accelerating/increasing the RPMs. After another five minutes I started the vehicle again. This time I let the car warmup for a minute before placing it into gear. During this time I did not experience another incident.
My parked Car, engine off, has not started six times in the last 9 months. Battery is dead. Parasitic battery drain with this model car. Battery and Alternator has been checked by mechanics 4 times, both are good. Also checked by Interstate battery. They took the battery out and checked it overnight. The battery is less than 18 months old, all say it is good, not the problem. Six times I have had to have my car jumped to start. Dangerous for a older person to be stranded. Nothing was left on, no lights or utilities . Car also will not start if not driven for several days. This model 2017 Subaru has a mechanical problem, it has a parasitic power drain.
https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/Discussion-t68632_ds1061822 I figured that out after reading all the previous threads on this site. Not happy! I will be getting back to them, and Subaru America as well. What doesn't seem to be clear from this thread is whether replacing the battery with a heftier one will make a difference if there is this parasitic draining going on. The dealer did the required software updates but that didn't make a difference. I understand that there may be some class action suits in progress.
I have a 2017 Subaru Outback. It rained hard Monday night into Tuesday. When I got in my car Tuesday am to take my kids to school, there a small crack, maybe 3 inches, there was no crack previously. As I drove my kids to school we watched the crack grow larger and larger. There was no debris or anything near the windshield when we got it. It seems to me that a windshield should be able to withstand a hard rain. I googled it and it seems that Subaru's have problem with their windshields and it doesn't seem right. Thank you
Subaru Outback 2018 windshield cracked & spread in one day. Lower left corner, spreads like a large “S”. Approximately 10” high & 10” in the curve of “S”. At driver’s eyesight.
Departed home and haven drive say 100 yards roughly, car came to a full stop. Car would idle, I could shift into park drive, reverse etc.. There was NO reaction to pressing accelerator. I was stuck. I was in a slow traffic area so I was not concerned. If i was in a a fast speed four lane highway I could have been rear ended and harmed or killed. After say 15 minutes of fiddling with ignition, shifting in various modes, the engine came to life and I proceeded to my destination. The problem happened again say one month later. A duplicate of first incident. I Immediately took vehicle to Gerald Jones Subaru in Martinez GA. Diagnostics and test drive found nothing wrong. Wrote to Subaru headquarters on 9/24/2021 with complaint. To date I have received no reply. This has to be a safety issue with Subaru. I note other folks on internet with same problem so its not just me. Lastly. I note that when i bought my Subaru I also bought same model for my wife. We are both senior citizens (I am 89) and fearful of driving these cars.
Windshield has cracked for the second time without any specific incident noted. Just started cracking from the bottom up.
My windshield has had a Crack in the lower left side to the lower middle for about 9 months and just recently the right lower side has a Crack about 10 inches. I have not been in any accidents since I have owned my car or have had any thing happen that would make a Crack on it. I cannot afford to replace it.
Driving home from church Sunday when I heard a loud cracking sound. Sounded like something on the roof, so opened up the cover to the sunroof and saw nothing. When I pulled off to look, I found a long crack in the windshield passenger side running from the bottom of the windshield up to the left just shy of the middle of the passenger seat. There was no one in front of me, so no rock got kicked up and no bird strike. Today the crack lengthened to about the half-way point on the windshield.
Our windshield has cracked three times in the past nine months, each time with no impact to it from rock or other object. The crack starts spontaneously and spreads across the windshield. After replacing it in November 2020, we just chalked it up to bad luck, then it happened again in June. Each time, we replaced it with Subaru factory glass and had the Eyesight safety technology calibrated by the certified technician. Now it's happened again (August 2021). I've read of MANY other Subaru owners with similar experiences, and the Subaru service manager in Athens, GA admitted he sees more cracked windshields with Subarus than other makes. Please advise on how we can resolve this issue and safely drive our vehicle. Thank you.
Placing car in park and attempt to remove key. Key remains locked in ignition. Car remains in the ON position with steering wheel NOT locked and radio/lights ON. I must re-start the car, put in drive, rock gear shift and slam back into Park. This procedure eeds to be repeated until the key can be removed. It is occurring with increasing frequency, at least once per day at this point.
The ignition key becomes stuck in the ignition upon stopping the vehicle and placing the gear shifter into "park" and turning the vehicle off. Intermittently the key is unable to be removed from the ignition even though the vehicle is in the "park" position and turned off. Usually after starting and stopping the vehicle and moving the gear shift a few times the key can be removed from the ignition. This problem does not occur every time the vehicle is driven, but lately it is happening more frequently.
The windshield cracked spontaneously needing replacement
The windshield was hit by a small rock while driving on a highway at 65 mph. The rock caused a crack less than a millimeter in diameter. After continuing to drive the vehicle on highways and paved streets for 4 more hours, the small crack expanded to be approximately a foot going across the windshield from the passenger side to the middle of the windshield.
The original battery completely died a year or two ago and the replacement battery completely died four months ago.
Battery issues, continued changing when the battery isnt drained
The key gets stuck in the ACC selection mode when trying to turn the car off. It will not turn all the way back to turn off the electrical or allow the key to be removed. this has been happening often for a few weeks.
We were driving along the highway when the windshield began to crack at the edge of the driver's side. We parked the car and went shopping for an hour. When we came back, the crack had doubled in length. I see, and know, there are issues with the windshield for this model year (a friend of mine had his replaced for free a couple of years ago). Need to get on that list.
I have had multiple issues over the years with the battery 2017 Subaru Outback keeping a charge and I have required a jump multiple times. My latest issue is over the last 3-4 months I have required a jump and while researching the issue, I came across Chimicles action lawsuit for the same problem I've been having. Please include my information in any database where information is being collected. Feel free to reach out to me if more information is needed.
REAR BACKUP CAMERA REMAINS ON AFTER SHIFTING FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE. SCREEN HAS SEVERE BURN IN WITH Z PATTERN ACROSS ENTIRE DISPLAY. MAKING IT UN-VIEWABLE.

BATTERY HAS FULLY DRAINED AT LEAST FIVE TIMES. TOOK IT TO DEALER AND THEY FOUND NOTHING. I HAVE PURCHASED A MOBI POWER CELL FOR JUMPING THIS OUTBACK.
Mileage: 3,000
MY NEW BATTERY WAS DRAINED TO A POINT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. I MESSAGED SOME BIBLE STUDY FRIENDS AND ONE WAS GOING TO COME OVER AND JUMP MY VEHICLE. WHILE WAITING I PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND PUSHED IT OUT OF MY GARAGE INTO THE DRIVEWAY. THE DRIVEWAY IS ON A STEEP SLOPE. ONCE IN THE DRIVEWAY I TRIED PUTTING THE CAR INTO PARK, IT WOULD NOT GO INTO PARK. IN FACT IT WOULD ONLY GO INTO DRIVE WHICH DID NOT STOP THE VEHICLE FROM ROLLING BACKWARDS. I TRIED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE BUT IT IS ELECTRICALLY OPERATED AND DID NOT WORK. THE BRAKES WERE VERY HARD TO HOLD SINCE THE HYDRAULICS WERE NOT KICKING IN, SAME WITH THE POWER STEERING. I AM A BIG STRONG GUY SO I WRESTLED THE CAR TO TURN IT DIAGONALLY IN THE DRIVEWAY AS IT ROLLED BACKWARDS, TRYING TO PREVENT IT FROM GOING INTO THE STREET AND FLYING INTO SOMEONE'S HOUSE OR VEHICLE. ONCE DIAGONAL IN THE DRIVEWAY I THREW A PADLOCK UNDER THE FRONT TIRE FROM THE DRIVERS SEAT WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE TO PREVENT IT FROM ROLLING BACK. AT THIS POINT IT WAS BARELY HELD BUT STATIONARY SO I GOT OUT, CHALKED THE WHEELS WITH 2X4'S UNTIL BY BIBLE STUDY FRIENDS CAME OVER AND JUMPED MY CAR. I DID NOT HAVE MY CELL PHONE AND NO ONE ELSE WAS AROUND TO HELP ME. I LITTERALLY THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO HAVE TO JUST LET MY CAR ROLL DOWN INTO THE STREET AND LET IT GO BECAUSE I HAD NO OTHER OPTIONS. I CALLED SUBARU OF AMERICA AND THEY DIRECTED ME TO A YOUTUBE VIDEO THAT SHOWS ONCE THE BATTERY COMPLETELY DIES, THERE IS A SPECIAL TOOL YOU NEED IN ORDER TO GET THE CAR IN AND OUT OF PARK. BUT IT DOESN'T TELL YOU THAT IF THE CAR WON'T START AND THERE IS ENOUGH POWER TO GET IT INTO REVERSE, DON'T DO IT WITHOUT THE TOOL. WHAT IF THIS HAPPENED IN THE MOUNTAINS OR SAN FRANCISCO OR ANY HILLY OR MOUNTAINOUS LOCATION? I BELIEVE THIS IS A HIGH POTENTIAL FOR LIFE THREATING INJURY OR LOSS OF PROPERTY. E-BRAKES SHOULD NOT BE ELECTRIC IN MY OPINION.
Mileage: 50,000
THE DATA CONTROL MODULE FAILED AFTER ONLY 30,000 MILES. IT'S A 2017 SUBARU OUTBACK AND BECAUSE OF NOT DRIVING LAST YEAR (2020), THE 3 YEAR WARRANTY WAS NO LONGER IN EFFECT. WE ARE PAYING $1500, FOR A FAILED PART (DATA CONTROL MODULE) THAT CAUSED TWO CONSECUTIVE BATTERIES TO DRAIN. THE CAR WILL NOT START WITHOUT JUMPING IT.
Mileage: 30,000
I BELIEVE ALL OF THE FOLLOWING CIRCUMSTANCES TO BE CAUSED BY AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM: DEC.31, 2020: CAR HESITATES TO START. IT NEVER TURNS OVER SO IT DOES NOT EVER START. WE INSTALL NEW BATTERY & CAR STARTS. MID-JAN.2021: CAR WON'T START FROM PUSH START, BUT DOES START WHEN I USE MY REMOTE START KEY FOB. AFTER THAT, CAR STARTS WITH PUSH START. FEB.-APRIL 2021: CAR HAS A SEVERAL TIMES WHEN IT HESTITATES TO START, BUT ULTIMATELY IT DOES START. MAY 1-3 2021: CAR HESITATES TO START, BUT ULTIMATELY STARTS. MAY 4-5 2021: CAR NOT ONLY HESITATES TO START, BUT NOW I HAVE ALL KINDS OF LIGHTS LIT UP ON MY DASH, INCLUDING CHECK ENGINE, EYESIGHT, X-MODE LIGHT IS FLASHING, AND SEVERAL OTHERS THAT I CANNOT GET TO TURN OFF. IN ALL INSTANCES, VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY AND TURNED OFF. I HAVE PHOTOS & VIDEO BUT CAN'T SEEM TO REDUCE FILE SIZE TO REQUIRED 5MB. SIDE NOTE: UNLESS I AM AT WORK OR RUNNING ERRANDS, MY CAR IS ALWAYS IN THE GARAGE.

THE BATTERY KEEPS FAILING. IT'S MY 4TH BATTERY CHANGE AND I CAN FEEL THAT I WILL NEED TO CHANGE THE 4TH ONE SOON.
Mileage: 41,000
2017 OUTBACK. UNABLE TO REMOVE THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION. ONCE IN PARK TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL BACK AND FORTH DOESN'T HELP TO RELEASE THE KEY. MOVED GEAR SHIFT MULTIPLE DIRECTIONS UNTIL EVENTUALLY THE KEY WAS REMOVED. THE KEY ISN'T PARTICULARLY WORN.
Mileage: 29,400
MY WINDSHIELD HAD TO BE REPLACED TWICE IN THREE MONTHS ONCE 2-20-19 AND 5-6-2019.
VEHICLE DESIGN SAFETY DEFECT: AFTER LOCKING DOORS WHILE SEATED IN VEHICLE MUST SELECT UNLOCK TO EXIT VEHICLE. IN AN EMERGENCY SAFETY DICTATES THAT PULLING DOOR OPEN LEVER WOULD OPEN DOOR IN ONE ACTION.
Mileage: 739
BATTERY KEEPS DRAINING EVEN AFTER BEING REPLACED KEY SENSOR ALSO ALWAYS GOES OFF THAT KEY IS NOT IN CAR WHEN DRIVING
Mileage: 40,000
I RECENTLY STARTED HAVING ISSUES WITH REMOVING MY KEY FROM THE IGNITION. I COULD REMOVE IT MOST OF THE TIME AFTER MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS AND MESSING WITH THE SHIFTER AND STEERING WHEEL ETC. BUT THERE WAS AT LEAST ONE TIME THAT I HAD AN APPOINTMENT AND COULD NOT AFTER 10 MINUTES, REMOVE THE KEY. I HAD TO LEAVE THE KEY IN THE IGNITION WITH THE CAR IN THE PARTIALLY "ON" SETTING. I TOOK THIS INTO SUBARU DEALERSHIP TO GET IT FIXED ON 25MAR2021. I DISCOVERED THAT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE, BUT THAT SUBARU DECIDED IT WASN'T A SAFETY ISSUE. I HAD TO PAY ABOUT $500 TO REPAIR THIS ISSUE. I BEG TO DIFFER THAT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. LEAVING THE KEYS IN THE IGNITION BECAUSE I COULD NOT REMOVE THEM IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE 1) AN UN-LICENSED DRIVER OR YOUNGSTER COULD HAVE GOTTEN IN THE CAR AND STARTED DRIVING IT; OR 2) A CRIMINAL COULD HAVE GOTTEN IN THE CAR AND WAITED FOR ME TO RETURN WITH MALICIOUS INTENTIONS AND 3) OR THE CAR COULD HAVE SIMPLY BEEN STOLEN. I ALSO CONTACTED MY INSURANCE REP AND FOUND OUT THAT IF A CAR IS STOLEN WITH THE KEY IN THE IGNITION, THAT THIS WOULD BE A NON COVERED CLAIM. EVEN IF IT WAS PHYSICALLY IMPOSSIBLE FOR ME TO REMOVE THE KEYS.

MY CAR WINDSHIELD ALL OF SUDDEN STARTED CRACKING 2 WEEKS AGO AROUND FEBRUARY 17TH.2021. MY CAR ALWAYS PARKED ON MY DRIVEWAY. CALLED LOCAL DEALER WAS TOLD IT'S GOING TO COST US $1200 TO GET IT REPLACED.
Mileage: 33,000
VEHICLE CHARGING SYSTEM SEEMS TO BE WORKING ONLY PART OF THE TIME . THE BATTERY HAS BEEN DRAINED MORE THAN ONCE AFTER DRIVING THE PREVIOUS DAY . IT'S ALMOST LIKE SOMETHING HAS BEEN LEFT ON ,DRAINING THE BATTERY WHEN I KNOW EVERY THING HAS TURNED OFF . IS THERE SOMETHING THAT STAYS ON AFTER YOU SHUT THE CAR OFF LONG ENOUGH TO DRAIN THE BATTERY ?
Mileage: 20,000
ON THE MORNING OF FEBRUARY 23, 2018 AND WENT OUT TO MY VEHICLE THAT WAS PARKED (STATIONARY) IN MY ENCLOSED COVERED GARAGE TO FIND A GIANT CRACK THROUGH MY WINDSHIELD WITH NO DISCERNABLE CAUSE.

VEHICLE WILL NOT START. BATTERY GOES DEAD. THIS HAS HAPPENED MORE THAN 20 TIMES SINCE PURCHASING THE CAR.
WINDSHIELD KEEPS BREAKING CRACKS COME UP FROM THE BOTTOM NOT FROM ROCK CHIP. THIS WILL BE THE SECOND TIME WE HAVE HAD TO REPLACE IT IN THE TWO YEARS WE HAVE OWNED IT.
SUDDEN BATTERY POWER LOSS MULTIPLE TIMES
BATTERY WON'T START FROM PARKING LOT, FOR A COUPLE OF TIMES NOW EVEN WHEN IT WAS ON IT'S FIRST YEAR. WE HAVE TO JUMP START AND ALSO REPLACED IT COUPLE OF TIMES NOW BUT THE PROBLEM PERSISTS.
Mileage: 69,000
I HAD TO REPLACE ORIGINAL BATTERY ON MY 2017 OUTBACK AT 12,079 MILES JAN 2019 AND THEN AGAIN ON 12/2020 AT 24,431 MILES. I WAS TOLD BATTERIES ONLY LAST 2 TO 4 YEARS IN ARIZONA. I RECENTLY READ OF THE BATTERY LAWSUIT REGARDING ELECTRICAL CHARGE ISSUES WITH 2017 OUTBACK'S.
THIS OCCURS WHILE THE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY. WHEN THE AT SELECT LEVER (SHIFT LEVER) IS PUT INTO PARK THE KEY ONLY ROTATES INTO ACC AND NOT INTO LOCK. THE KEY CANNOT BE REMOVED LIKE THIS. THE VEHICLE HAS 75,000 MILES ON IT.
Mileage: 75,000
CRACKED WINDSHIELD WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE. I DID NOT SEE OR HEAR THE WINDSHIELD BEING HIT BY ROCK, ETC. UPON INSPECTION IT APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN HIT BY A SMALL ROCK.

THE WINDSHIELD ON THE SUBARU OUTBACK 2017 WAS CRACKED 2 TIMES AND BOTH THE TIME I HAD TO PAY FROM MY POCKET TO GET IT REPLACED.
THE WINDSHIELD ON SUBARU OUTBACK 2017 WAS CRACKED ALL OF A SUDDEN.
MY CAR'S WINDSHIELD HAS GOT HAIRLINE CRACK OF ABOUT ONE AND HALF FEET. IT HAPPENED WHEN I PARKED THE VEHICLE IN THE PARKING LOT. THERE WAS NO STONE HIT. IT HAPPENED NATURALLY.
WINDSHIELD CRACKED FROM UNKNOWN ORIGIN IN FIRST YEAR OF OWNERSHIP. I HAD A $500 COMPREHENSIVE DEDUCTIBLE AND HAD TO PAY THAT IN FULL TO GET A NEW WINDSHIELD.

THE CAR BATTERY WAS FOUND TO BE DEAD AFTER SITTING FOR AT LEAST 2 DAYS, ON 3 DIFFERENT OCCASIONS BEFORE BEING REPLACED ON 1/8/2020. AFTER BEING REPLACED THE SAME PROBLEM KEPT HAPPENING. THE NEW BATTERY WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE PLACE OF PURCHASE WHERE IT WAS TESTED AND FOUND TO BE IN GOOD WORKING ORDER. SINCE BEING REPLACED THE SAME CONDITION KEEPS HAPPENING, AT LEAST 4 MORE TIME , MOST RECENT AS 11/3/2020. EACH TIME THE VEHICLE SAT IN OUR DRIVEWAY FOR 2 TO 3 DAYS NOT BEING USED
Mileage: 32,000
BATTERY ISSUES ARE NON STOP! BATTERY DIES ALL THE TIME. WE HAD A NEW 2016 OUTBACK PREVIOUSLY, THAT HAD TO BE TOWED BECAUSE IT WOULD JUST DIE. WE TRADED IT IN FOR A NEW 2017 OUTBACK AND IT'S EVEN WORSE. BATTERY HAS BEEN REPLACED (NOT SURE HOW MANY TIMES), AND ISSUE IS STILL THE SAME. LEAVES US STUCK/STRANDED IN RANDOM PLACES, AND BACK HATCH WILL SOMETIMES BEEP NON STOP EVEN THOUGH IT'S COMPLETELY CLOSED. WE HAVE TO KEEP AN EMERGENCY JUMP KIT WITH US CONSTANTLY. THE BACK HATCH WON'T OPEN WHEN BATTERY IS DEAD/LOW, WHICH IS CRAZY THAT THERE ISN'T SOME TYPE OF OVERRIDE TO THIS. I HAVE SEEN COUNTLESS BATTERY ISSUES FOR THIS VEHICLE AND I'M BEYOND SHOCKED THAT THIS HASN'T BEEN FIXED/ADDRESSED BY SUBARU. WE ARE FED UP WITH THE BATTERY DRAIN, AND DO EVERYTHING WE CAN SO WE CAN (HOPEFULLY) PROACTIVELY START OUR VEHICLE (HAVE ALL INTERIOR LIGHTS OFF, RADIO OFF, AIR OFF - ALL SYSTEMS POSSIBLE TURNED OFF). EVEN THAT DOESN'T ALWAYS WORK. WE SPEND EXTRA MONEY ON GAS JUST TO RECHARGE THE CAR BY DRIVING IT MORE MILES THAN WE WANT TO. I'M GONNA BE DONE WITH SUBARU AFTER THIS.
KEY NOT RELEASING FROM IGNITION AFTER PUTTING CAR INTO PARK. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM AS SUBARU PUT OUT SUBARU SERVICE BULLETIN 16-112-18R. SUBARU STATES "THE CAUSE IS CONTAMINATION OF THE PARK-RANGE SWITCH INTERNAL COMPONENTS." SO IT IS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT BUT SUBARU HAS NOT MADE A RECALL, COSTING OWNERS $400-$800 TO GET IT REPAIRED IF THE CAR IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY.
Mileage: 63,000
DEALERSHIP REPLACED BATTERY TWICE WITHIN 12,000. BATTERY CHECKED ON THREE OCCASIONS BEFORE REPLACED. SECOND BATTERY REPLACED AFTER 12,000 MILES.
WINDSHIELD CHIPS/CRACKS WITH NO KNOWN CAUSE.
WHEN PUTTING MY CAR INTO 'P' FOR PARK, AND TURNING MY CAR OFF WITH MY KEY, MY KEY WILL NOT TURN ALL THE WAY INTO THE OFF POSITION FOR ME TO TAKE MY KEY OUT. I HAVE TO TURN MY KEY INTO THE ON POSITION, SHIFT THE GEAR INTO EITHER 'N' OR 'D', THEN BACK INTO THE 'P' POSITION SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE I CAN GET MY KEY OUT. THIS IS SUCH A SAFETY HAZARD. THIS HAPPENS WHEN MY CAR IS STATIONARY AND PARKED, AND I AM ATTEMPTING TO LEAVE MY VEHICLE. APPARENTLY, MANY PEOPLE ARE HAVING THIS SAME ISSUE AND SUBARU DOESN'T CARE ENOUGH ABOUT THEIR CLIENTS TO REPAIR THIS PROBLEM. THEY ONLY CARE ABOUT THEIR $$$.
Mileage: 20,000
WINDSHIELD CRACKED WHILE DRIVING IN A HIGHWAY WITH LITTLE TO NO REASON OF PHYSICAL IMPACT FROM OUTSIDE. IT STARTED AS A 2 INCH LINE CRACK THAT GROW TO ALMOST A FOOT WHILE DRIVING. EVIDENCE AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST SUCH AS DASHCAM VIDEOS AND PHOTOS.
Mileage: 60,000
MUTIPLE TIMES WHEN THE CAR IS STOPPED AND PUT INTO PARK,REGARDLESS OF WHERE, THE KEY WILL NOT COME OUT OF THE IGNITION. THE SWITCH CAN BE TURNED OFF, BUT THE KEY WILL NOT COME OUT OF THE IGNITION. THE GEAR SHIFT HAS TO BE MANIPULATED MULTIPLE TIMES BETWEEN DRIVE AND PARK IN ORDER TO EVER REMOVE THE KEY. THIS MAKES IT QUITE DIFFICULT TO RUN ERRANDS OR TO TAKE A TRIP, NOT KNOWING IF THE ABILITY TO REMOVE THE KEY WILL BE POSSIBLE. AND, OF COURSE, IF THE KEY HAS TO BE LEFT IN, THE POSSIBILITY OF THEFT WOULD BE GREAT. CAR IS NOT RECOGNIZING THE GEAR SHIFT IS IN PARK. ON ONE OCCASION, I HAD TO LEAVE THE KEY IN THE CAR IN MY DRIVEWAY, BUT THIS RUNS THE BATTERY DOWN. DEALER WHERE I AM TAKING CAR TO BE REPAIRED AS WELL AS THE SUBARU OF AMERICA CONTACT, ADVISED ME THIS IS A REGULAR OCCURRENCE AND SUBARU IS WELL AWARE OF WHAT IS HAPPENING. I FEEL THIS SHOULD BE PUT ON THE RECALL STATUS! THIS HAS HAPPENED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS SINCE BUYING THE CAR ON JUNE 5, 2020. TODAY'S DATE IS 08/14/20. REPAIR WILL BE MADE MONDAY, 08/17/20.

SUNROOF EXPLODED WITH A FAIR SIZE HOLE IN IT! ALSO, THE WINDSHIELD GLASS HAS CRACKED LINES IN IT. STATED WITH A SMALL STONE DING AND NOW HAS EXPENDED TO A CRACK LINE HALD WAY ACROSS THE WINDSHIELD. TO ME, SUBARU HAS A GLASS ISSUE WITH MY 2017 SUBARU OUTBACK. THE AUTO HAS ALL OF THE SAFETY FEATURES, SO REPLACING THE WINDSHIELD IS NOT CHEAP, DUE TO THE SENSOR CAMERAS. THE ROOF BLOW OUT HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING IT. ALSO, THE SMALL STONE DING OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING IT AS WELL. ALL OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING THE SUBARU ON CITY STREETS. SUBARU DID REPLACE THE SUNROOF AT NO COST; THE OUTBACK WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. THE WINDSHIELD STARTED TO CRACK SHORTLY AFTER HAVING SAFE LITE REPAIR THE DING. THAT OCCURRED ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO.
Mileage: 8,500
WINDSHIELD SPONTANEOUSLY CRACKED WHILE PARKED OVERNIGHT ON THE DRIVEWAY.

WINDSHIELDS, PARTICULARLY THE EYESIGHT EQUIPPED MODELS, ARE EXTREMELY PRONE TO CRACKING, ARGUABLY DEFECTIVE. 5 MONTHS AFTER PURCHASING NEW, I GOT A ROCK CHIP WHILE DRIVING. WHEN GETTING IT REPAIRED IT SPIDERWEBBED, REQUIRING TOTAL REPLACEMENT OF THE WINDSHIELD. 2 WEEKS AFTER REPLACEMENT(AT THE PRICE OF $900), IT GOT ANOTHER ROCK CHIP WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. A YEAR LATER IT GOT ANOTHER ROCK CHIP WHILE HIGHWAY DRIVING, AND A CRACK HAS STARTED TO SPREAD DESPITE BEING REPAIRED. DEPENDING ON HOW FAR IT SPREADS, I'LL BE ON THE THIRD WINDSHIELD IN LESS THAN 50K MILES/3 YEARS OF OWNERSHIP. MY OTHER HIGH MILEAGE CARS(130K AND 225K) ARE BOTH STILL ON ORIGINAL FACTORY GLASS.
Mileage: 6,000
MY 2017 SUBARU OUTBACK HAS PARASITIC BATTERY DRAIN THAT KILLS THE BATTERY. THE CAR WON'T START MAKING THE VEHICLE UNRELIABLE. THIS IS A ROUTINE ISSUE WITH SUBARU AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED.
Mileage: 51,000
I PURCHASED A BRAND NEW 2017 SUBARU OUTBACK, IN NOV 2019, WINDSHIELD CRACK BY ITSELF WITHOUT ANY EXTERNAL INFLUENCE DURING NORMAL DRIVING @ 9200 MILES, GOT NEW ONE REPLACED ON 12/5/19, THEN AFTER 3 MONTHS DRIVING LESS 500 MILES, IT CRACKED AGAIN. MADE REPORT TO SUBARU OF AMERICA, THEY DENY THE DEFECTIVE OF THEIR WINDSHIELD AND REFUSE TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPLACEMENT COST..
Mileage: 9,700
WINDSHIELD LARGE CRACK DEVELOPED UNEXPECTEDLY FROM VERY SMALL CHIP WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY. WINDSHIELD HAD BEEN REPLACED WHEN PURCHASING THE CAR 4 MONTHS EARLIER.
Mileage: 41,000
WINDSHIELD CRACKED AND SPREAD AT MULTIPLE POINTS DURING MODERATE TEMPERATURE FLUCTUATION. CRACKED CONTINUED TO SPREAD OVER THE COURSE OF A WEEK. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED AT THE TIME THE CRACKS FORMED AND WAS PARKED WHEN THEY SPEAK. AMBIENT TEMPERATURE INSIDE THE VEHICLE WAS 75 DEGREES F WHILE DRIVING AND APPROX 40-55 F OUTSIDE.

TWO EPISODES OF SPONTANEOUS CHIPPING/CRACKING. FIRST CHIP HAPPENED IN THE LOWER RIGHT CORNER WHEN PARKED IN PARKING LOT. THIS HAPPENED BEFORE THE FIRST 3 MONTH CHECK-UP. WE CHOOSE NOT TO REPLACE IT AS THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE OF SPIDERING AND IT DID NOT AFFECT DRIVER VISION. SECOND CRACK HAPPENED TODAY, WHILE PARKED IN A GARAGE, AT AROUND 40K MILES. THIS IS A LARGE CRACK THAT IS ARISING FROM THE MEDIAL BOTTOM ASPECT OF THE WINDSHIELD.
Mileage: 40,000
WHILE I WAS IN MY PARKED CAR I TURNED ON MY WINDSHIELD DEFROSTER AND MY WINDSHIELD WIPERS. WHEN I DID THIS - THE WINDSHIELD SPONTANEOUSLY CRACKED.I WATCHED THE CRACK SPREAD ACROSS THE WINDSHIELD. THE CAR WAS STATIONARY AT THE TIME OF THE CRACK. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH 2017 - 2019 SUBARU OUTBACK, FORESTER AND CROSSTREK MODELS. BOTH THE DEALERSHIP (FLOW SUBARU OF WINSTON-SALEM)AND SUBARU OF AMERICA REFUSE TO FIX THIS KNOWN ISSUE.

I WAS WAITING ON MY WIFE AT THE GROCERY STORE AND THE WINDSHIELD STARTED TO CRACK A LITTLE AT A TIME. FIRST IT WAS ABOUT 1/2 CRACK AND NOT ITS ABOUT 10-11" CRACK RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE DRIVERS SEAT

UNABLE TO GET KEY OUT OF IGNITION WHEN VEHICLE IS IN PARK (IN GARAGE OR ANYWHERE ELSE). FOUND ISSUE ON FORUMS MANY TIMES. SEEMS TO BE RELATED TO GEAR ASSEMBLY. MESSING WITH SHIFTING, BACK INTO PARK, WIGGLING KEY EVENTUALLY GET IT OUT. SOMETIMES IT TAKES 5 MINUTES. HAPPENS AT LEAST 40% OF TIME.
Mileage: 67,500
WHEN GOING TO PARK, I SHIFT THE CAR INTO PARK AND TURN OFF THE ENGINE BUT THE KEY IS STUCK IN THE IGNITION. THIS HAS HAPPENED EVERY TIME I'VE DRIVEN FOR THE LAST THREE DAYS. THE ONLY WAY TO GET IT TO COME OUT IS TO TURN IT BACK ON AND TRYING SHIFTING INTO PARK AGAIN, OCCASIONALLY SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE IT RECOGNIZES THAT IT'S IN PARK AND WILL RELEASE THE KEY.
CANNOT REMOVE IGNITION KEY WHEN DONE DRIVING. NOT ALWAYS, BUT RANDOMLY.
Mileage: 34,000
THE WINDSHIELD ON THE CAR CRACKED. I DON'T THINK IT WAS HIT BY ANYTHING. IF IT WAS, IT MUST'VE BEEN A VERY SMALL OBJECT. I NOTICED IT WHEN I WENT OUT TO THE CAR ONE MORNING ON MY WAY TO WORK. I HAD SOMEONE COME OUT AND REPAIR IT AS BEST THEY COULD, SO THERE IS A MARK AT THE BOTTOM OF THE CRACK WHERE THEY DRILLED TO STOP IT FROM GETTING WORSE.
Mileage: 35,000
IN FEBRUARY 2019, A CRACK APPEARED STARTING AT THE BASE OF THE WINDSHIELD. THROUGHOUT THE DAY IT GREW TO GO ACROSS THE WINDSHIELD. SUBARU SAID I HAD TO FIX IT THERE DUE TO EYESIGHT. IN DECEMBER 2018, THE SAME THING HAPPENED. I NOTICED A SMALL CRACK WHEN I GOT INTO MY CAR. NOTHING HIT IT. THROUGHOUT THE DAY THE CRACK SPREAD ABOUT TWO FEET. THIS ALL HAPPENED IN LESS THAN A YEAR. I DO NOT THINK A CRACK OCCURRED FROM BEING HIT BY ANYTHING. I THINK IT'S A DEFECTIVE WINDSHIELD. THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY BOTH TIMES THAT I SAW THE INITIAL CRACK.
Mileage: 54,000
KEY GETS STUCK IN THE IGNITION. THE CAR DRIVES, TURNS OFF, AND TURNS ON LIKE NORMAL HOWEVER, WHEN THE CAR IS PUT INTO PARK, TURNED OFF, AND THE THE KEY IS ATTEMPTED TO BE REMOVED THE KEY DOES NOT COME OUT. IT ONLY COMES OUT AFTER SOMETIMES AN HOUR OR MORE OF PUTTING THE CAR INTO DRIVE AND THEN INTO PARK AGAIN. THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME I ATTEMPT TO REMOVE THE KEY.
Mileage: 35,000
KEYS GET LOCKED INTO IGNITION WHEN IN PARK AND READY TO LEAVE CAR AND ARE IMPOSSIBLE TO REMOVE.
Mileage: 38,000
WINDSHIELD CRACKED WHILE CAR WAS PARKED INSIDE GARAGE. CRACK WAS SIGNIFICANT AND APPEARED FOR NO REASON. WINDSHIELD WAS REPLACED ON 2/13/19 AND EYESIGHT HAD TO BE RECALIBRATED. IT IS OUR BELIEF THAT THIS IS CONSISTENT WITH THE LAWSUIT RE: 2017-19 OUTBACK WINDSHIELD CRACKS.
Mileage: 20,000
ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS (WHEN STARTING IN DRIVEWAY - STOPPED, WHILE DRIVING IN PARKING LOT - 5 MPH, DRIVING IN TOWN - 25 MPH, WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY - 60 MPH) ALL ADVANCED SAFETY FEATURES ARE DISABLED INCLUDING (BUT NOT LIMITED TO) EYE SIGHT (FAB - FORWARD AUTO BRAKE, ACC - ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL, LAS - LANE ASSIST STEERING), RAB - REAR AUTO BRAKE, REAR CROSS TRAFFIC ALERT, BLIND SPOT DETECTION, PARK BRAKE, ABS, TRACTION CONTROL, POWER STEERING. NOTE THAT THE FAILURE OF THESE SYSTEMS DOES NOT CAUSE A CHECK ENGINE CONDITION AND NO ERROR CODES ARE LOGGED. THE DEALER INDICATED THAT THE FIRST 4/5 FAILURES LEFT NO CODES. THE NEXT FAILURE WAS DELIVERED TO DEALER WHILE RUNNING IN A FAILED STATE. DEALER REPORTED NO CODES FOUND. SINCE THE DEALER DID NOT REPORT THIS TO SUBARU I WILL BE REPORTING THIS PROBLEM TO SUBARU.

RIGHT SIDE FRONT QUARTER GLASS SPONTANEOUSLY SHATTERED. THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY, NOT RUNNING, AND PARKED IN THE GARAGE WITH ALL GARAGE DOORS CLOSED. THE DATE WAS 09/02/2017. THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED NEW ON 07/19/17 WITH AN ODOMETER READING OF 18 MILES. CAUSE OF THE GLASS SHATTERING IS UNKNOWN.

THE WINDSHIELD DEVELOPED A CRACK FROM THE BOTTOM CORNER OF THE DRIVER'S SIDE FOR NO APPARENT REASON WHEN THE CAR WAS GARAGED. THERE WAS NO ROCK OR OTHER DAMAGE TO CAUSE IT. IT HAS SPREAD ACROSS THE WINDSHIELD. THE WINDSHIELD REPLACEMENT IS PROHIBITIVELY EXPENSIVE AND THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM TO SUBARU.
Mileage: 16,000
WINDSHIELD HAS BROKEN FOR THE 2ND TIME SINCE PURCHASE. BOTH TIMES SUBARU GLASS.

WITHIN A COUPLE WEEKS OF HAVING TO HAVE OUR WINDSHIELD FIXED, I WAS DRIVING STRAIGHT AHEAD ON A FREEWAY, APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH, WHEN A CRACK STREAKED ACROSS OUR WINDSHIELD. WE COULDN'T FIGURE OUT WHY, THINKING MAYBE A TINY ROCK HIT US. A FEW DAYS LATER WE ASKED SUBARU TO FIX IT, BUT THEY SAID THAT'S NOT WHAT THEY DO AND SENT US TO A LOCAL AUTO GLASS COMPANY. THEY SAID THESE NEW WINDSHIELDS WITH ALL THE TECHNOLOGY LIKE EYESIGHT, ETC. SEEM TO MAKE THE WINDSHIELDS MORE FRAGILE. ON JUNE 1ST, 2017 (OUR CAR WAS ONLY 6 MONTHS OLD), HAVING THE WINDSHIELD REPLACED, WE PICKED IT UP TO A TUNE OF $1,485.02. I WONDERED WHEN WE WOULD HAVE TO BE BACK IN FOR ANOTHER FIX. VERY CONCERNING.

WINDSHIELD CRACKING.

I OWN AND DRIVE A 2017 SUBARU OUTBACK PREMIUM. I LIKE THIS CAR AND ENJOY DRIVING IT. MY CAR HAS THE FULL EYESIGHT SAFETY SYSTEM. ON SEPTEMBER 27 2019 I WAS DRIVING SOUTHBOUND ON THE NORTHEAST EXTENSION OF THE PENNSYLVANIA TURNPIKE. I WAS A FEW MILES SOUTH OF THE LANSDALE EXIT IN THE MIDDLE LANE OF THREE. THE ROAD WAS DRY, THE WEATHER CLEAR AND TEMPERATURE ABOUT 80 DEGREES. I WAS DRIVING BETWEEN 65 AND 70 MPH. A CAR PASSED ME ON THE RIGHT AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED AND PULLED INTO MY LANE IN FRONT OF ME. MY SUBARU PRE-COLLISION BRAKING SYSTEM SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES AND BROUGHT ME TO AN ABRUPT STOP IN MY LANE. I HAD NO CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. MY WIFE WAS SCREAMING ' WHAT ARE YOU DOING ? WHAT ARE YOU DOING ? 'MY EYES WENT TO THE REAR VIEW MIRROR TO SEE WHO WAS GOING TO HIT ME. MY FOOT STAYED ON THE ACCELERATOR TRYING TO KEEP MOVING. THE PRE-COLLISION BRAKING SYSTEM FINALLY RELEASED THE CAR AND I WAS ABLE TO MOVE AGAIN. I MOVED TO THE RIGHT LANE AND PUT MY EMERGENCY FOUR WAY FLASHERS ON. IT HAPPENED TWO MORE TIMES IN THE NEXT MILE. I PULLED OVER AND CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY ADVISED HOW TO TURN OFF THE PRE-COLLISION BRAKING SYSTEM. ON OCTOBER 3RD I TOOK MY OUTBACK TO THE CIOCCA SUBARU DEALERSHIP IN ALLENTOWN PA. THEY KEPT THE CAR FOR A WEEK AND CLAIMED THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THEIR EYESIGHT SYSTEM. I DON'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS CAR.
Mileage: 53,000
THE WINDSHIELD ON MY 2017 SUBARU OUTBACK WITH 28,000 MI. HAS DEVELOPED A CRACK I SEE THAT A LOT OF OWNERS OF OUTBACKS ARE ALSO HAVING CRACKS DEVELOP. NOT SURE IF THERE IS A RECALL ON THE WINDSHIELD. THE CRACK SHOWED UP AS I PULLED THE CAR OUT OF THE GARAGE I WASN'T EVEN DRIVING ON THE ROAD. THE CRACK IS ON THE TOP OF THE WINDSHIELD NEAR THE CENTER.
Mileage: 28,000
THE IGNITION KEY CANNOT BE REMOVED FROM IGNITION. THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN EVERY TIME, BUT SEVERAL TIMES A WEEK. I HAVE READ MANY ONLINE COMPLAINTS WHERE THIS IS HAPPENING TO SEVERAL SUBARU OWNERS. THEY SAID SUBARU IS CHARGING THE CONSUMER ANYWHERE FROM $375 TO $800 TO FIX IT.
Mileage: 76,000
FAULTY WINDSHIELD, I AM ON MY THIRD WINDSHIELD WHICH HAS JUST CRACKED. THE CRACK ALWAYS BEGINS IN THE SAME PLACE, LOWER PASSENGER SIDE BELOW WINDSHIELD WIPER ASSEMBLY IN DEFROST PORTION OF GLASS. SUBARU HAS REPLACED THE GLASS TWICE AT NO COST AT 27,407 MILES AND 45,099 MILES. NOW AT APPROX. 63,000 MILES IT HAS HAPPENED AGAIN. SUBARU IS "UNAWARE" OF ANY PROBLEM WITH THE WINDSHIELDS IN 2017 OUTBACK MODELS. I AM UNAWARE OF ANY ROCK IMPACT TO THE GLASS. WHILE IN MOTION ON THE HIGHWAY, I HEAR A POP SOUND AND CRACK BEGINS TO FORM AND SPREAD QUICKLY.
Mileage: 63,000
THE GEAR SHIFTER DOES NOT GO IN TO PARK COMPLETELY ALLOWING FOR RELEASE OF THE KEY. THERE IS A 'RESET' YOU CAN DO IN THE CENTER CONSOLE OR THEY WILL REPLACE THE SHIFTER SOLVING THE PROBLEM.

MY OUTBACK HAS HORRIBLE WIND NOISE. ITS SO LOUD I CANT USE THE BLUETOOTH PHONE, NOR LISTEN TO THE RADIO. ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE AND WILL IMPACT MY NEXT PURCHASE.

POSSIBLE STRUCTURAL DESIGN ISSUE THAT CAUSES THE FRONT WINDSHIELD TO CRACK. OEM WINDSHIELD CRACKED SUDDENLY A YEAR AGO. THE CRACK STARTED AT THE VERY TOP OF THE WINDSHIELD IN THE CENTER. NO APPARENT STONE CHIPS OR OTHER DAMAGE TO ATTRIBUTE THIS TO. ABOUT 8 WEEKS AGO THE REPLACEMENT WINDSHIELD ALSO CRACKED, THIS TIME STARTING UNDER THE DRIVER SIDE HOOD AREA, AT THE VERY BOTTOM OF THE WINDSHIELD. THERE'S NO WAY FOR A ROCK OR OTHER OBJECT TO IMPACT THIS AREA, WHICH, GIVEN THE SUDDEN LARGE CRACKS THAT APPEARED, LEAD ME TO BELIEVE THERE'S A STRUCTURAL STRESS ISSUE COMING TO PLAY ON THE FRONT WINDSHIELD. AS THE FRONT WINDSHIELD IS A STRUCTURAL SAFETY COMPONENT OF THE VEHICLE, I BELIEVE THIS CAUSES A SAFETY ISSUE LONG TERM, NOT TO MENTION A SIZABLE ANNUAL EXPENSE BETWEEN THE WINDSHIELD AND HAVING THE EYESIGHT CAMERAS RECALIBRATED FOR THE NEW GLASS. VEHICLE HAS BEEN ON THE ROAD LESS THAN THREE YEARS. THE 'WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN' DATE SELECTED BASED ON THIS YEARS CRACKING. I DIDN'T TAKE PHOTOS OF LAST YEARS CRACKED WINDSHIELD. CURRENT CRACKED WINDSHIELD STILL IN THE VEHICLE.
Mileage: 48,000
HESITATES FOR 3 TO 4 SECONDS FROM A STOP WITHOUT WARNING. HAS BEEN OCCURRING SINCE WE BOUGHT IT NEW JAN. 2017. REPORTED TO SERVICE DEPT AT DEALERSHIP. TOLD IT IS THE WAY I DRIVE. REPORTED IT TO SUBARU CORPORATE OFFICES. THEY REFUSE TO CHECK INTO IT AND SAY IT IS NOT A PROBLEM. I AM VERY CAREFUL ABOUT PULLING INTO TRAFFIC AS I NEVER KNOW WHEN THIS WILL HAPPEN. IT ALSO HAS A ROUGH IDLE. I KNOW THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THESE VEHICLES IN THE THROTTLE ASSEMBLY.
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING ON I-80 IN NEBRASKA. WITH NO TRAFFIC AROUND, HER SUNROOF SPONTANEOUSLY EXPLODED WHILE DRIVING. THERE WERE NO WARNING SIGNS OR ANYTHING AHEAD FO THE EVENT. LUCKILY THE HEADLINER SHADE WAS CLOSED SO THE DIDN'T GET HIT BY GLASS AND WERE ABLE TO PULL OVER SAFELY.
Mileage: 25,000
REPEATED ISSUES WITH REAR LIFT GATE. INCLUDING NOT OPENING AND STICKING AN ANIMAL IN THE BACK AND NOT SHUTTING COMPLETING HOWEVER GIVING THE INDICATION OF SHUT. TODAY 7-25-19, I WAS DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 55 MILES AN HOUR AND THE LIFTGATE NOT SHUT LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON MY DASH DURING THE MORNING COMMUNICATE. THERE WAS NO SAFE PLACE TO PULL OVER UNTIL 10 MINUTES LATER. WHEN I GOT OUT OF THE CAR IT APPEARED TO BE SHUT HOWEVER I HAD TO PUSH ON THE BACK SEVERAL TIMES TO SHUT IT. LUCKILY MY DOG WAS NOT IN THE CAR AT THE TIME, BUT THIS CAN POSE A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE IF ACTUALLY CAME OPEN. I HAVE CALLED THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP SEVERAL TIMES ABOUT THE ISSUE BUT THEY SAID THEY CANNOT DO ANYTHING IF THEY CANNOT RECREATE IT THEY ONLY RESET THE SENSOR. THIS WAS THE FINAL DRAW FOR ME AND I BELIEVE THE VEHICLE IS UNSAFE. NOTE: PICTURE TAKEN WAS WHEN I WAS AT A STOP LIGHT.

ORIGINAL WINDSHIELD CRACKED BY ROCK (I THINK) HIT AT TOP NEAR EDGE AND CRACK INSTANTLY RAN DOWN AND ACROSS THE WINDSHIELD. TOOK TO DEALER FOR REPLACEMENT, TOOK ALL DAY BECAUSE THE FIRST WINDSHIELD THEY INSTALLED BROKE, SO THEY HAD TO PUT IN A SECOND. A WEEK LATER HEARD A LOUD POP, LIKE A ROCK HAD HIT THE WINDSHIELD AND WINDOW CRACKED FROM JUST ABOVE THE WIPER ON THE PASSENGER SIDE UP AND TO THE MIDDLE OF THE WINDSHIELD. IF IT WAS A ROCK IT COULDN'T HAVE CAME DIRECTLY IN BUT WOULD HAVE HAD BEEN LOBBED AS A STRAIGHT IN SHOT WOULD HAVE CLIPPED THE WIPER AND THE WIPER HAS NO DAMAGE. THERE IS A VERY SMALL DING IN THE WINDSHIELD, CERTAINLY NOT SIGNIFICANT ENOUGH TO CAUSE A CRACK THAT WOULD INSTANTLY RUN ACROSS THE WINDSHIELD. DEALER WILL NOT WARRANTY A 1000 WINDSHIELD THAT I HAD FOR A WEEK. I DON'T THINK THE INTEGRITY OF THE WINDSHIELD IS SOUND IF A SMALL ROCK DINGS THE WINDSHIELD AND CAUSES IT TO CRACK. IF SOMETHING OF SIZE WERE TO HIT IT I THINK IT WOULD LIKEY BREAK THROUGH AND COULD SERIOUSLY INJURE SOMEONE. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE, THE GLASS IS DEFECTIVE. WINDSHIELDS ARE BUILT TO WITHSTAND SERIOUS IMPACT WITHOUT CRACKING. SOME NEEDS TO LOOK INTO THIS. I'VE SEEN MANY PEOPLE REPORTING THIS ONLINE AND SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET HURT. SUBARU NEEDS TO RECALL ALL THE VEHICLES AND REPLACE WITH SAFE GLASS AND THEY NEED TO REIMBURSE ALL THOSE LIKE ME THAT HAVE INCURRED RIDICULOUS EXPENSE BECAUSE OF THIS DEFECT.

ON MARCH 24, 2019, MY HUSBAND AND I WERE DRIVING NORTH ON INTERSTATE 5 IN SOUTHERN OREGON, TRAVELING FROM OUR WINTER HOME IN NEVADA TO OUR SUMMER HOME IN ALASKA. SUDDENLY, WE HEARD A LOUD EXPLOSION ON THE ROOF OF OUR CAR. THE SUNROOF GLASS HAD SPONTANEOUSLY EXPLODED AND SHATTERED!! THERE WERE NO ROCKS OR DEBRIS ON THE ROAD. SINCE WE WERE TRAVELING, I WAS ABLE TO GET THE SUNROOF REPAIRED AT WALKERS RENTON SUBARU IN RENTON, WASHINGTON. EVEN THOUGH THE VEHICLE WAS STILL UNDER THE FULL BUMPER TO BUMPER 36,000 MILE WARRANTY (IT HAD 27,000 MILES ON IT), I WAS REQUIRED TO PAY THE $500 REPAIR BILL. THE SERVICE ADVISOR TOLD ME THAT THE BREAKAGE HAD TO HAVE BEEN DUE TO A ROCK, AND WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. I AM CONVINCED THAT THERE WAS NO ROCK OR ANYTHING ELSE THAT CAUSED THE SHATTERING OF THE SUNROOF GLASS. THERE ARE SCATTERED REPORTS OF SUNROOFS SPONTANEOUSLY EXPLODING, AND I AM CONVINCED THAT THAT IS WHAT HAPPENED TO ME.

NAVIGATION SCREEN CAN NOT SEE IN DAY TIME AND IGNITION KEY WILL NOT REMOVE SOMETIME WHEN PARK.
WINDSHIELD CRACK IN LOWER GLASS PORTION (ABOUT A FOOT LONG); ORIGINATED WITHOUT ANY ROCK STRIKE. NOTICED IT WHILE DRIVING ONE DAY LAST WEEK, ON A LONE STRETCH OF HIGHWAY IN NEVADA. HAVE SEEN ONLINE TONIGHT THAT THIS HAS BEEN A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH SEVERAL SUBARU MODELS AND YEARS. I SHOULD NOT NOR SHOULD MY INSURANCE COMPANY PAY FOR A KNOWN ISSUE THAT THESE MODELS HAVE.

FRONT RIGHT POWER WINDOW. POWER WINDOW ON PASSENGER SIDE GOES DOWN, WHEN PULL TO CLOSE, GOES UP THEN OPENS/COMES DOWN AGAIN. WON'T STAY UP.

AFTER PARKING, I FREQUENTLY CAN'T GET THE KEY OUT OF MY 2017 SUBARU OUTBACK, MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO LEAVE THE VEHICLE. IT CAN TAKE DOZENS OF RESTARTS, SWITCHING FROM DRIVE TO REVERSE TO PARK AND MOVING THE WHEEL TO BE ABLE TO RELEASE THE KEY. ALSO, FREQUENTLY, WHEN THE CAR IS PARKED, I AM ABLE TO INSERT THE KEY BUT CANNOT TURN IT TO START THE CAR. THIS STARTED WHEN THE CAR WAS UNDER WARRANTY BUT DID NOT BECOME AN OBVIOUS/FREQUENT PROBLEM UNTIL JUST AFTER THE WARRANTY ENDED. I HAVE READ ON LINE THAT THIS WAS A DESIGN FLAW AND THE PART HAS BEEN REDESIGNED BUT THEY DID NOT ISSUE A RECALL AND ARE NOW CHARGING ME FOR THE NEW PART. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE (BEING STUCK OUTSIDE IN MASSACHUSETTS IN WINTER WITHOUT BEING ABLE TO LEAVE OR SOMETIMES START MY CAR) THAT THEY SHOULD BE ADDRESSING. THIS HAPPENS MANY TIMES EACH WEEK, AND IS COMPLETELY UNPREDICTABLE.
Mileage: 38,000
I AM RANDOMLY UNABLE TO REMOVE THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION AFTER PLACING THE VEHICLE IN PARK. IT HAS TAKEN ME UP TO TEN MINUTES TO GET THE KEY OUT. SOMETIMES JUST WIGGLING THE SHIFTER IN THE PARK POSITION IS ENOUGH TO GET THE KEY TO RELEASE. OTHER TIMES I HAVE TO REPEATEDLY START AND STOP THE ENGINE, AND MOVE THE GEARSHIFT LEVER FROM PARK TO DRIVE AND BACK TO PARK TO GET IT TO RELEASE. THE KEY WILL TURN ALL THE WAY TO THE OFF POSITION IN THE IGNITION BUT SOMETHING IS PREVENTING IT FROM BEING PULLED OUT OF THE IGNITION SWITCH. SEARCHING GOOGLE FOR THIS PROBLEM REVEALS THAT MANY OTHERS ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM, AND THE DEALER'S SOLUTION IS TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE SHIFT ASSEMBLY AT YOUR EXPENSE IF YOU ARE OUT OF WARRANTY. THAT IS WHAT THEY TOLD ME, EVEN THOUGH THEY APPARENTLY HAVE A TSB ON THE PROBLEM.

THE CAR IS SQUIRLY ON SNOW AND ICE, FEELS LIKE THE STEERING WHEEL HAS PLAY IN IT AND BACK END KEEPS MOVING. FEELS LIKE IM TRYING TO KEEP IT ON THE ROAD AND ARMS GET TIRED. THIS IS GOING STRAIGHT DOWN THE HIGHWAY. ONLINE FORUMS THEY DESCRIBE IT AS GHOST WALKING. IT STARTED THE FIRST WINTER I GOT THE CAR AND I AM SCARED TO DRIVE IT NOW IN THE WINTER AND I EVEN HAVE STUDDED TIRES ON IT.

WHEN LANE KEEP ASSIST IS ON AT NIGHT (USES EYESIGHT TO KEEP YOU IN YOUR LANE) THE CAR STEERING WHEEL HAS ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS SUDDENLY JERKED TO THE RIGHT. THE FIRST TIME THERE HAD BEEN SOME ROAD REPAIRS WITH SOME PARTS OF THE ROAD HAVING NEW ASPHALT AT SOME NOT, AND THE ROAD WAS STILL WET FROM A PREVIOUS RAINSTORM. THE MOST RECENT TIME THE ROAD WAS DRY AND THIS HAPPENED WHEN THE CAR REACHED AND EXIT WHERE THE PAINTED STRIPE ON THE RIGHT SIDE OPENED AT THE ANGLE FOR CARS TO DEPART THE INTERSTATE TO ALLOW FOR THE EXIT. THE FIRST TIME THERE WERE TWO IMMEDIATE JERKS TO THE RIGHT. THE LAST TIME A SINGLE JERK. EACH TIME I HAD TO FORCIBLY JERK BACK THE CAR BACK TO THE MIDDLE OF THE LANE I WAS IN, OR WE WOULD HAVE LEFT THE ROAD AT 65 MPH. I HAVE STOPPED USING LANE KEEP ASSIST - THIS WAS VERY DANGEROUS. THE FIRST TIME I ASKED THE SALESMAN AT SUBARU OF CHAMPAIGN ABOUT THIS, AND HE DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT IT. AFTER THE SECOND OCCURRENCE I DECIDED IT WAS A DANGEROUS DEFECT AND HAD TO REPORT IT. THANK YOU.

ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS IN PAST 6 WEEKS, I HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO TURN KEY TO LOCK SO CAR IS TURNED OFF AND I CANNOT WITHDRAW THE KEY. ONLY BY EXCESSIVE "PLAYING AROUND" WITH GEAR SHIFT ETC. CAN I FINALLY GET KEY OUT. THIS COULD PRESENT SERIOUS PROBLEMS TO ANYONE. MY DEALER NOT PARTICULARLY HELPFUL-SAID IF NOT DOING IT WHEN BRING CAR IN-THEY CAN'T FIX. IF YOU GO ON INTERNET YOUR CAN SEE THAT HAS BEEN A RECURRING PROBLEM FOR SUBARU OWNERS OF VARIOUS MODELS. I CAN'T BELIEVE THERE HASN'T BEEN A RECALL. THANK YOU. BATTERY HAS FAILED THREE TIMES WITH NO REASON FOUND. CHARGED THEN DEAD NEXT MORN WITH NOTHING LEFT ON ETC. COLD TEMP WAS NOT A FACTOR. ONCE WAS POSSIBILITY CONNECTED TO THE REAR GATE MOTOR WHICH I COULD HEAR AT ONE POINT,BUT THEY FOUND NOTHING...THE CAR WAS IN THE GARAGE TWICE , AND IN DRIVEWAY OTHER TIMES.BELOW DATE IS THE LATEST, THE FIRST TIME BEING 12/17;MILAGE IS AT 11/1 ENCOUNTER

WE WERE TRAVELING WITH OUR MOON ROOF CLOSED BUT THE MOON ROOF COVER OPEN. WE HEAR AN EXPLOSION AND I THOUGHT SOMEONE HIT ME FROM BEHIND. NEXT THINK I KNOW GLASS IS FALLING ON MY HEAD AND ON MY WIFE AND DOG'S HEAD. ONE OF THE SCARIEST MOMENTS OF DRIVING I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED. WEATHER WAS CLOUDY NO RAIN, NO ROCKS NO OVERHEAD BRIDGES. THIS WAS TRULY A DEFECT IN THE MOON ROOF GLASS.

SIMILAR TO COMPLAIN DATED 12/09/2016 BY SOMEONE ELSE. ABOUT A YEAR AGO I WAS AT A LIGHT WAITING TO TURN LEFT, MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE WHEN SUDDENLY THE ENGINE REVVED UP AND I HAD TO SWITCH TO NEUTRAL TO RETURN TO IDLE SPEED. I NOTIFIED A SUBARU REPRESENTATIVE ON THE INTERNET. THIS MONTH I HAD 4 OCCASIONS THAT I HAD SIMILAR EXPERIENCE IN A SHOPPING MALL TRYING TO TURN RIGHT INTO A PARKING SPACE. THIS FRIDAY I TRIED TO PARK IN MY GARAGE AFTER 5 MILES DRIVE, AND MY WIFE WAS A PASSENGER, I TURNED THE WHEEL SLIGHTLY TO THE LEFT WHEN THE ENGINE REVVED UP FROM IDLE OF 600 TO 2000 RPM AND THEN WENT TO 4000 RPM. I WAS USING THE BRAKE AND I FELT A SKID OF A TIRE. SWITCHED TO NEUTRAL AND PARK AND TURNED OFF THE ENGINE. MY WIFE WAS SCARED AND WOULD NOT RIDE IN MY CAR. I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT WITH MY WAKEFIELD SUBARU DEALER ON 09/25/18, I DID NOT DRIVE MY CAR SINCE THE LAST EPISODE. MY ODOMETER IS 14241 MILES. I AM POSITIVE I DID NOT STEP ON THE GAS, ONLY THE BRAKE.

PARKING GEAR DISENGAGES INTO REVERSE, ENGINE RUNNING AND POWERED BACKWARDS. TWO INCIDENCES IN THE PAST 4 MONTHS, BOTH ON LEVEL SURFACE WITH ENGINE RUNNING. REQUIRED GETTING CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE UNEXPECTLY MOVING IN REVERSE. THE FIRST INCIDENT WAS ON A LEVEL PARKING STRIP AND CAUSED INJURY TO THE PASSENGER. THE SECOND INCIDENT WAS IN OUR GARAGE ON A LEVEL SURFACE, AND WE NARROWLY AVOIDED PROPERTY BY QUICKLY GAINING CONTROL OF THE CAR. A DIFFERENT DRIVER FOR EACH INCIDENT. WE ARE VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND THE SAFETY ISSUES WITH THE PARKING GEAR DISENGAGING INTO POWERED REVERSE GEAR. OUR DEALER WAS VERY RESPONSIVE BUT WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND OFFER A SOLUTION.

BOUGHT A 2017 SUBARU OUTBACK WAGON 2.5I PREMIUM WITH OPT PACKAGE 14 LAST FEB, 2017. THE OPTION PACKAGE WAS THE EYESIGHT DRIVER-ASSIST SYSTEM. TWICE SO FAR, WHILE DRIVING IN GOOD WEATHER, THE BRAKES HAVE SLAMMED ON FOR NO APPARENT REASON - LEAVING RUBBER ON THE ROAD AND THROWING MY WIFE AND I FORWARD. THEY APPLY FOR APPROX 2-3 SECONDS AND THEN - THE CAR CONTINUES. FORTUNATELY, THIS HAS HAPPENED ON ROADS THAT HAVE NOT BEEN BUSY AND NO ONE BEHIND US. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER WHEN THIS HAPPENED ON 3/8/2018 AND WAS INFORMED THEY WERE NOT AWARE OF ANY ISSUE THAT WOULD CAUSE THIS. THIS CONTRADICTED WHAT THE SERVICE REP TOLD ME ON 1/8/2018 WHEN I TOOK IT IN FOR THE 6,000 MILE SERVICE. HE TOLD ME A COMPUTER UPDATE HAD BEEN RUN TO CORRECT THIS. I REQUESTED THAT THEY DOWNLOAD THE ONBOARD COMPUTER AFTER THIS SECOND INCIDENT WHICH SHOULD SHOW SPEED, BRAKING, TURNING, ETC... WHEN I DROPPED IT OFF. ON PICK UP, WE WERE TOLD THAT THE CAR COMPUTER DOES NOT RECORD THIS INFORMATION, THEY TEST DROVE THE CAR AND COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE ISSUE AND NO DEFECT FOUND. I CONTACTED SUBARU OF AMERICA AND PROVIDED ALL OF THE INFORMATION TO THEM. THEY ADVISED THEY WOULD CONTACT THE DEALER AND GET ALL OF THE DETAILS. THEY LATER FOLLOWED UP WITH ME AND ADVISED THERE WERE NO STORED FAILED CODES AND NO ISSUES FOUND WITH THE EYESIGHT SYSTEM AND NO INFORMATION STORED ON THIS INCIDENT IN THE CAR. THEREFORE, NO ISSUE OR DEFECT WITH THE EYESIGHT SYSTEM AND THEY COULD NOT RECOMMEND ANY REPAIRS. THIS LACK OF COMPUTER STORED INFORMATION CONTRADICTS WHAT THEIR OWN MANUAL SAYS. IT STATES 'EYESIGHT RECORDS AND STORES THE FOLLOWING DATA WHEN THE PRE-COLLISION BRAKING SYSTEM IS OPERATED.' IT THEN LISTS - STEREO CAMERA IMAGE; DISTANCE FROM VEHICLE IN FRONT; VEHICLE SPEED; STEERING WHEEL TURNING; BRAKE PEDAL OPERATION'ETC. I NOW TURN EYESIGHT OFF WHEN DRIVING AS I HAVE NO TRUST/FAITH IN IT.

WAS TURNING LEFT INTO A DRIVEWAY AT RESURRECTION CEMETERY IN MONTEREY PARK CA WHEN I HEARD A LOUD POPPING SOUND AND THEN NOTICED THE FRONT WINDSHIELD WAS CRACKED. IT APPEARED NOTHING HAD HIT IT. THE CRACK IS LOCATED IN THE CENTER LOWER BOTTOM STARTING FROM THE EDGE AND CREATING AN "L" PATTERN. IT IS A SUBARU 2017 OUTBACK WITH 9,100 MILES.

THE SUBARU OUTBACK, 2017, 9000 MIS. SEEMED TO BE LOSING BATTERY POWER ON EACH START AND THEN NOTHING. BATTERY IS DEAD. JUMP STARTED IT..NO START EXCEPT EVERY DASH LIGHT CAME ON. HAD TO SHIFT GEAR WHILE NOT STARTED, PUT IN PARK AND HIT SHIFTER TO START. WHY IS THE BATTERY DEAD AND WILL NOT START ON A JUMP START? THANKFULLY, VEHICLE WAS PARKED AT HOME WHEN IT WOULD NOT START. SUBARU DEALER TOLD ME TO BRING IT IN TO SEE IF THEY CAN FIGURE THE PROBLEM. I BELIEVE IT MAY HAVE A FAULTY RELAY. THEY ARE THINKING IT IS THE SHIFTING LEVER. IF SO, WHY IS THE BATTERY TOTALLY DEAD?

ON THE HIGHWAY CRUISING AT 10:19AM IN OCT 13 2017, A NUMBER OF ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS ON MY SUBARU OUTBACK FROZE ABRUPTLY. SPECIFICALLY, MY ON-BOARD GPS NAVIGATION SCREEN FROZE, THE DIGITAL CLOCK FROZE (ON 10:19AM), AND THE HEADS UP DISPLAY OF NAVIGATION DIRECTIONS ON THE DRIVER'S HUB FROZE. WHO KNOWS WHAT OTHER SYSTEMS ALSO LOCKED UP, WHICH I COULDN'T OBSERVE. AFTER I STOPPED AND RESTARTED THE CAR, THOSE THINGS UNFROZE.

I HAVE A 2017 SABARU OUTBACK WITH THE EYESIGHT SYSTEM. IN LATE JULY 2017 I HAD TO REPLACE A WINDSHIELD WHEN I GUESS A PEBBLE HIT AND IT IMMEDIATELY SPREAD A LARGE CRACK THAT OVER NEXT FEW DAYS COVERED ENTIRE WINDSHIELD. $678.80 + HALF DAY OF WORK LOST. ON 9/27/17 AS I WAS GOING ABOUT 10 MPH ENTERING HIGHWAY I HEARD TWO POPCORN POPS - NOTHING HIT THE WINDSHIELD- LOOKED OVER, AND THE SAME TYPE CRACK APPEARED STARTING AT EDGE OF WINDOW. THIS HAS SPREAD OVER LAST FEW DAYS TO COVER MOST OF TEH WINDSHIELD. WHEN THE WINDSHIELD REPLACED IN JULY 2017, A LADY WAITING THERE TOLD ME THAT HER 2016 OUTBACK WINDSHIELD HAD BEEN REPLACED THREE (3) TIMES ALREADY. THIS IS AN EXPENSIVE CONSUMER DEFECT WHICH SABARU REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE, AND THEY WILL NOT COVER TEH WINDSHIELD UNDER THE VEHICLE WARRANTY.

SEPTEMBER 9TH 2017, OUR OUTBACK WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT ON A MIXED RESIDENTIAL/COMMERCIAL STREET INTERSECTION, WHEN IT WAS HIT ON THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL, HARD ENOUGH TO SPIN THE CAR SO THAT THE LEFT REAR CORNER MADE CONTACT WITH THE OTHER VEHICLE. THE IMPACT RESULTED IN SERIOUS INJURIES REQUIRING HOSPITALIZATION AND WEEKS OF RECOVERY. THE AIRBAGS & SEATBELT PRE-TENSIONERS DID NOT ACTIVATE. AFTER THE COLLISION, THE "SOS" BUTTON WAS PRESSED, BUT THERE WAS NO RESPONSE FROM STARLINK. SEVERAL DAYS LATER THE STARLINK CONCIERGE CALLED TO ADVISE US THAT THE LIGHTS WERE "ON" AND CHECKING ON OUR WELLBEING. THEY WERE UNAWARE THAT THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT SEVERAL DAYS PRIOR, NOR DID THEY HAVE ANY RECORD THAT THE "SOS" BUTTON HAD BEEN ACTIVATED. THE CAUSE OF THE NON-ACTIVATION IS STILL UNDER INVESTIGATION BY OUR INSURANCE AND SUBARU

WINDSHIELD HAD INTERNAL CRACKING DEVELOPED WHERE RIGHT UNDER REAR VIEW MIRROR MOUNTING AREA. NO PHYSICAL CONTACT BUT THE CAR WAS PARKED HOT OUTSIDE FOR 3 DAYS AND DEFECT HAPPENED. INITIALLY REAR VIEW MIRROR WAS STILL ON WINDSHIELD BUT AFTER SEVERAL DAYS DRIVE, IT FELL DOWN. IT IS DEFINITELY SAFETY RELATED DEFECT.

DOOR LOCKS DOORS DONT AUTOLOCK WHEN IN DRIVE. DOOR WOULD HAVE OPENED WHILE DRIVING.
Mileage: 4,500
FRONT DRIVER AND FRONT PASSENGER DOORS DO NOT LOCK AUTOMATICALLY AND REMAIN UNLOCK WHEN SHIFT IN DRIVE WHEN CAR IS STATIONARY AND ALSO WHEN CARE IN MOTION. NO VOICE, LIGHT OR ANY ALERTS THAT ALERT THE DRIVER TO LOCK THE DOORS MANUALLY EVERY TIME YOU DRIVE THE CAR. THIS A SAFETY ISSUE AS IF YOU FORGET TO LOCK THE DOORS MANUALLY AND BY ANY CHANCE SNAPS ON THE DOOR HANDLE, CAR DOOR WILL OPEN AND FATALITIES CAN OCCUR. SPOKE WITH SERVICE ADVISOR AT MY SUBARU DEALER AND HE STATED THAT THIS ISSUE IS REAL AND THERE IS NO WAY TO PROGRAM THE VEHICLE TO LOCK THE FRONT DOORS AUTOMATICALLY WHEN IT IS IN DRIVE OR AT CERTAIN SPEED. I AM NOT AWARE OF ANY OTHER CARS THAT HAVE SAME ISSUE, EVEN OLDER CARS 10 PLUS YEARS OLD CARS HAS THIS SAFETY FEATURE AS STANDARD. THIS ISSUE IS NOT MENTIONED ANYWHERE IN THE VEHICLE MANUAL AND SALES PERSONS DO NOT TALK ABOUT. IN MY OPINION THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND A KEY FACTOR WHEN CHOOSING TO BUY SUBARU OUTBACK.
I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO PURCHASE A NEW SUBARU OUTBACK, BUT THE FORWARD JUTTING HEADRESTS ("HEAD-RESTRAINING SYSTEM") IS WAY TOO UNCOMFORTABLE. WE ARE LEARNING ALL NEWER VEHICLES SEEM TO HAVE THESE REMARKABLY UNCOMFORTABLE AND POSTURE DAMAGING FORWARD TILTS DUE TO YOUR RECOMMENDATIONS/REQUIREMENTS. PLEASE RE-THINK YOUR CURRENT RECOMMENDATIONS AND DESIGN RECOMMENDED HEADRESTS WHICH ARE SAFE AND DO NOT SACRIFICE POSTURE AND COMFORT. YOUR CURRENT RECOMMENDATIONS ARE CERTAINLY LEADING TO WORSENING ARTHITIC SYMPTOMS AND PAIN FOR PEOPLE SUCH AS ME AND MAY BE CONTRIBUTING TO THE OPIOID EPIDEMIC.
