Nov 2, 2025 Fire

A fire started under the hood of my car while I was driving. There were no warning lights on in my car and the temperature gauge was in the middle where it usually is. Earlier in the day, I smelled gas, but I thought it was a different car as the smell of gas went away after a car that had a lot of exhaust coming out was no longer in sight.

Transmission is failing. Wheel bearing bad. This is a 5 year old car with regular maintenance. No warning lights.

Jul 27, 2025

No warning, or dash lights. A/C stopped working. It’s 98 degrees outside, to me that is dangerous! Wagner Subaru said it is the actuator doors ($900 in diagnosing) they said it would cost $3600. It’s a 2020. There is no reason there should be a cost that high for that new of a car.

[XXX] and I were driving to Sean’s for dinner on Friday night [XXX] when the sunroof glass exploded at approximately [XXX]. [XXX] was driving on the [XXX] . We heard a loud bang and thought we were in an accident. We noticed sounds from the sunroof so I slide the cover open slightly and saw a massive hole so immediately closed it again. We pulled off and used the emergency ramp to examine the damage and take pictures. We think the glass exploded for no reason as we did not see any debris in front of us and were not under an underpass. We did not find any debris or scratches on the car indicating an external object as the culprit. I dropped my car off with Subaru Carlsbad on June 17, 2025 and am waiting for an update. My service advisor was shocked by the occurrence as she had not seen something like this. I pointed out that the glass exploded outwards and asked her to check the cabin pressure vents as we found discussion pointing to those as a potential issue when researching online. We also heard complaints that Subaru has specifically excluded this piece of glass from the warranty so I let my advisor know that I hope / expect this to be covered under warranty. 2020 Subaru Outback rear auto liftgate randomly automatically closes after opening. It has hit me, the owner, in the head as I was attempting to place items in the rear. It has hit various store personnel as they were attempting to load products in the rear. I have reported this to my local Subaru dealer many times over the last five years, even leaving my vehicle for several days for inspection. Their responses have been - if we don't see it, we can't help OR no problem is detected. I have reported to Subaru Consumer Advocate twice with no resolution.

May 14, 2025

Vehicle accelerated without touching gas pedal, rpm’s kept increasing even while trying to brake.

May 8, 2025

I am on my third windshield in les than a year. The tiniest pebble will crack the windshield, or sudden changes to weather has now caused a stress crack. Seems to be poor weight distribution on the design. There is extensive customer complaints on line with the same issue. Insurance will only cover two a year. There were no warnings of this issue when the car was purchased. This is an expensive hazard to keep having issues with. They need to do a recall on a fix.

Dec 1, 2024

Defective windshields. The vehicle has been in my possession for 4 years. During these 4 years i've had 5 windshield replacements. 2 of which have been from rocks. 3 of which I have no idea what caused the damage, it seemingly happened out of nowhere while driving. This is well known (but not well dealt with) issue with Subaru vehicles with eyesight. People on multiple forums have the same issue, as do many people I know personally. Its a shame nothing has been done about this despite countless reports and complaints. This is a safety hazard.

Nov 11, 2024

Problem component: exterior mirror on driver side It was raining, I was driving, I heard what sounded like a loud explosion by my driver side window. After the initial shock, I thought a tire had blown out, but car drove ok and no tire warning light came on. It was a rural road with no shoulder, only deep stormwater ditch along the roadside, so there was no place to safely pull over in traffic to assess what may have happened. I drove about 2-3 miles before I could pull over at a safe spot. There I saw that the back side of my driver side mirror had completely disappeared. Wires were exposed. It appeared to have exploded off for no apparent reason. The body of the car was completely fine, the white exterior paint of the car was perfect, the actual housing of the mirror showed no marks, there are no dings or cracks in windows. No sign of any debris hitting the car. I reported it to Subaru general headquarters, and gave them all the info. I have an appt with local Subaru dealer this week. The mirror and housing are still on the car, minus the back, which is gone. My husband returned to the scene a few minutes later and searched for the piece that had propelled off the mirror or for any debris that could have caused the mirror to explode. There was nothing on the road, so wherever the back of the mirror went, it must have propelled far off the road. Safety issue: because an explosion like that nearly caused me to lose control of the car. And the piece that propelled off the mirror could have hit another car. Additional info. at the time of mirror exploding: my windshield wipers were on, it was a warm day so my air-conditioning was on, good chance my front dehumidifier was on. Car is equipped with heated mirrors, but heat was off.

This recall for Subaru outbacks has been in effect since March but there is no remedy available yet. I would like to have my car repaired as soon as possible because of safety concerns. Is there a timeline for when a remedy will be available?

Jul 25, 2024

The Thermal control valve went out in May while I was traveling though Texas, I took it to a dealership right away to see what the issue was and was told once again it was the thermal control valve. When it goes out you have the check engine light come on, the eyesite, and cameras all stop working along with all The warning lights staying on. They replaced it and I was told I should most likely get a refund for when I had the part first replace in July 2021. Which at that time my car was only 7 months old. I was told I would get a reimbursement for that part. However ever since Subaru warranty sent me an approval for reimbursement of this service ( letter dated May 21, 2024 for $1071. 00 that should happen in 30 -45 days, they are now stalling and stating it will be 90 days for checks to be mailed out. This is a faulty part they knew it 3 years ago and failed to handle, now more and more vehicle owners are having the issue, so they will replace the part ONLY if you have any issues. This is fraud on the part of Subaru to their customers.

Spontaneous windshield cracking

May 28, 2024

As my husband & I were traveling to Augusta, GA on Memorial Day weekend with our niece, we approached the [XXX] outside Chattanooga, Tennessee in heavy traffic and heavy rain on Saturday [XXX] 2024 at approximately [XXX] When we stopped for a small accident ahead of us, the “auto stop-start engine” feature stopped the car engine as normal. However, almost instantly, all of the electronics in the car appeared to fail and the car would not restart. The dashboard indicated that Eyesight and RAB were disabled and to "check the owner's manual." Normal traffic quickly resumed around us, but we were stranded in the #2 lane with several close calls of a rear-end collision--not to mention the cars at risk swerving to avoid us. My husband is a retired firefighter & our niece is a nurse in Los Angeles. Frankly, we were terrified! We were stranded on the interstate in the #2 lane for about 20 minutes before being pushed into the "gore zone" between [XXX] & [XXX] by a TDOT truck. We spent about 40 minutes in the gore zone where we were nearly hit twice by cars driving across the zone. We were finally towed to Crown Subaru in Chattanooga, TN and arrived there about 11:40 a.m. The general manager of the dealership, Keith Aviles, told us there was a sudden, massive failure of a battery cell controlling the electronics of the car, and the battery was replaced. We never had any indication or evidence prior to this incident that there were issues with the battery. Also, we have never received a notice from Subaru about battery problems. However, we are now aware that Subaru settled a class action lawsuit to avoid a recall of these batteries. I have notified six friends who own Subarus. Three have had issues with their batteries, but were also unaware of the class action lawsuit. This is absolutely shocking for a vehicle manufacturer that touts safety to sell vehicles. The windshield has cracked every year since I purchased the vehicle in May 2020. I fortunately bought the insurance but that only covers the windshield once a year. The windshield cracks within a month or two of replacing every single year. The cracks generally start from the edge of the windshield and there is no indication that it was hit be a rock as the start of the crack is clean. There have been two incidents where I heard a pop prior to the start of the crack. I am currently on my fourth windshield.

May 10, 2024

This vehicle is equipped with a driver monitoring system. This system will flash warnings and activate audible alarms directing the driver to keep his/her eyes on the road. At times this system malfunctions and blares warning after warning non-stop to keep eyes on the road when in fact the driver is absolutely looking straight ahead giving the road and traffic full attention. This erroneous non-stop alarm is distracting to the driver and will continue non-stop. Mostly the alarm can be ended by stopping the vehicle and shutting it off and then restarting the vehicle. The distracting nature to the driver is not the only issue. Is that false driver attention alarm being recorded to some black box to be recovered by any investigator, law enforcement or otherwise? If I should be in an accident while the vehicle erroneously has recorded that the driver was not attentive, then in fact I was, how could I prove otherwise? After all, the computer said otherwise. Once, the alarm begins, there is no way to safely stop the vehicle on the interstate, rush hour beltways and such. There is no way to safely stop the vehicle and turn off the ignition. My vehicle electronic system has been updated several times under the warranty period, yet this erroneous distracting safety alarm persists on an intermittent basis. I never know when. it is going to happen. There is reference in the manual to turning the system off, however I question whether just the alarm is turned off and the false data is till being recorded for anyone to find and place me in jeopardy should an accident occur. This is a known problem discussed in multiple forums and discussion groups. This has been and intermittent problem since 2020.

Spontaneous crack in windshield with no other signs of chips or damage. Car was sitting in the driveway when it occurred.

May 3, 2024

This was December2023Clicking noise when turning. "Rear swaybar bushing replaced (have gap in them when loaded)" also replaced 2 front Axle/CV Boots. Said they were worn. Additionally today, 5/3/2024 got in my car and there is a crack in my windshield that occurred overnight. Crack comes from bottom corning on drivers side up about 12 inches.

Mar 20, 2024

Later today I am getting my 4th windshield, maybe my 5th, I don’t remember. There is something wrong With these windshields. Nothing more than a small pebble has hit the windshield to cause the cracks and honestly that was only one incident. All the rest happened for no apparent reason. Again, my fourth or fifth windshield. This is ridiculous.

The automatic lifting of the rear trunk opens as it should, but then will start to close on you out of no where without pushing the close button. It is terrifying because it doesn’t sense a body there. The screen in the center console also will become inaccessible and black out making it impossible to use the touch screen. The usb ports/ connecting to iPhone will disconnect making Bluetooth unavailable. Extremely difficult when needing gps or on the freeway

Feb 19, 2024

Rear hatch opens while driving. It will not lock nor will it auto close. The dealer, Pine Belt Subaru, Lakewood, NJ, tried to fix it, but it happened again one week later. A very dangerous situation. A complete replacement of the hatch's lock may solve the problem .

Jan 29, 2024

- Driver and Passenger window stuck down (won't close) in extreme cold temperatures - I feel my safety is at risk because I had to drive my car miles in frigid temperatures with my window stuck open. - My dealership acknowledged the problem, but were not able to reproduce it as it was 59 degrees when I took it in. - My vehicle was not inspected by anyone other than the dealer - I had no warning of the problem I have a 2020 Subaru Outback Limited. Since I bought the car, there have been multiple incidents where the driver or passenger window got stuck open after being rolled down on very cold days. Several years ago ,shortly after I bought it, my Subaru dealer explained to me this was happening because Subaru changed the rubber content in the window gaskets to a harder rubber. Then, when there is dirt on the insides of the gasket, the gasket drags on the window and the actuator opens the window because it thinks it detected it was closing on something it was not supposed to close on. The fix to be able to close my window was to take a screwdriver and a T-shirt or thin towel to clean the insides of the gasket that touches the window. Subaru knows about this problem. As this is a safety hazard and dangerous in cold weather, I do not understand why there has not been a recall. I took my car to the dealer today. I was told that it should not happen again if I keep the gaskets clean. As a Subaru is supposed to be made for offroading and extreme weather conditions, I would think that something as basic as being able to open and CLOSE a window is not too much to ask. Do you really expect me to clean the inside of window gaskets to keep my windows from sticking? That is just trying to normalize a problem that should not be not be normalized. My passenger window got stuck a couple of weeks ago and I had to drive home 7 miles with it open when it was 0 degrees out. I tried to clean the gaskets using a screwdriver and a rag, but it would not work. Please recall!!!

I am reporting defective windshield. I’ve had windshield replaced 3 times when just the tiniest pebble tinged. My daughter also has a Subaru Outback and 3 windshields replaced. There must be a defect. Now that we have replaced the windshield several times, State Farm insurance has dropped us because of the number of claims. Most definitely a danger when a tiny people shatters the glass and pieces of the glass hit your face and eyes. If there is another agency I should report this, kindly let me know. I noticed when the weather is wet, closing the front windows is slow. This kept advancing and now it won't close at all. Today, 12/28/2023 it wouldn't even come up more than half an inch then goes back down. Done some online research, and lots of people are reporting this with several Subaru models and dealers only say it needs lubrication.

Windshield developed a crack for no apparent reason on the lower passenger side. Car was parked. Only unusual circumstance is that was a hot day.

Jul 24, 2023

The windshield in my 2020 Subaru Outback has cracked spontaneously twice. I had 75K Bumper to Bumper Warranty, which the dealer would not honor the first time the window broke. He said that it was warranted for repair, not replacement. I argued until he gave me a 50% discount. My windshield broke again today. I had just pulled out onto the street and was traveling about 10MPH. No rocks or stone touched the windshield. The sound of the crack startled me. I thought that there had to be an issue. Consequently as I looked online, I have discovered this is a design flaw or something as the problem is widespread. Two cracks in year is not right and it is expensive.

May 24, 2023

Over the course of the nearly three years I have owned my vehicle, the windshield has either spontaneously cracked or cracked from a very very small chip three times. Two of these occurred while I was driving, with no debris impact with the vehicle windshield. There have been several suits filed against Subaru for similar cases, including for the 2020 Outback model. This has been three times in about two and a half years, quadruple the amount for my previous vehicle. Not only is this a vision impairment while driving and a financial burden to fix, I also worry about more catastrophic failure should anything significant impact the windshield while driving. I have had the glass repaired twice, and both times the repair technicians could not understand how such a significant crack had occurred.

May 23, 2023

While driving on I-26, a small rock made an initially small crack in the windshield. Over time, while still driving, we watched the crack expand larger and larger, spreading with multiple new arms across the entire passenger side of the windshield. After parking at home in the garage and scheduling windshield replacement for the next day, we continued to notice the crack continuing to propagate further into the driver side. The incident happened on 5/21/23 and the windshield was replaced on 5/23/23.

Apr 2, 2023

Cracked windshield, very very small pebble hit the driver corner near the pillar, I heard a little “tick” followed by seeing a massive crack form. The crack has now gone straight across to the middle and is making its way up to obstruct the “eyesight” camera

Feb 10, 2023

I bought the Subaru Outback new Jan. 31, 2020. In those 3 years, I have had 3 windshield cracks from flying rocks resulting in 2-3 ft. long cracks extending across the windshield. The latest one happened Jan. 31, 2023, and the previous cracked windshield was replaced less than six weeks earlier on Dec. 22, 2022. While the first two incidents occurred on an interstate at high speed, the most recent incident occurred while sitting in stop-and-go, in-town driving at less than 15 MPH. Auto insurance will only cover one windshield claim per year. Subaru of Jacksonville (FL) and Subaru of America deny any known defects. The only other person I know who owns a newer Outback has experienced one windshield crack, and has owned the vehicle for less than 2 years. The auto glass company which performed the latest replacement told me last week that they get the most windshield damage claims from Outbacks, Mercedes and Range Rover. The most recent installer also said this is a problem with Outbacks and further said that the windshield containing the safety features are made of thinner glass than conventional windshields, and if I didn't want it to happen again, I would have to choose a thicker conventional windshield and lose the built-in safety features.

Jan 30, 2023

Moonroof without any warning broke out while driving on the freeway. This has happened two times within 6 months. When it breaks there is a very loud bang and glass fly's from the car, possibly hitting following vehicles. Both times we had the inside sun shade closed so the occupants of the car were not showered with glass. Happened on 7/11/22 & 1/28/23. We no longer trust driving the car and will trade it in.

Jan 18, 2023

I have had to replace my battery three times. Car drains battery without being used and I have had to be jumped on multiple occasions. The car is a 2020 and this seems unusual.

Jan 12, 2023

Windhsield cracked for the 2nd time. First, original windshield cracked in 2022 and replaced with OEM part. Now, 1/12/23, windshield again cracked w/o any reason.

Jan 12, 2023

For one, my windshield cracked out of nowhere, I didn’t know that windshields were having issues at the time, so I had to replace it on my own without contacting the dealership. Other issues include the front windows not going up all the way from time to time. The info system crashes and shuts down from time to time too, which leads to the Eyesight to shutdown temporarily too. And from time to time, the hatch buttons lag where I have to push on the buttons multiple times to get it to close

Dec 28, 2022

Windshield defective issues. The windshield in my subaru outback cracked twice in a 6-month period. Both incidents occurred while driving between 40-55 mph in San Diego. The first time (July 2022) the windshield cracked for no apparent reason. I took the car to the Subaru dealership for a windshield replacement. The second time (12/25/22) it appears that a small pebble hit the windshield on the bottom side of the windshield. I am really not even sure a pebble hit the windshield, I just heard the windshield crack. Subaru has been notified of this second incident and I am waiting for an appointment to replace the cracked windshield. This is appears to be a defect on the windshield. I've never had this issue with any other car. Its troubling to know that the windshield on my car can cracked so easily and it worries me for the safety of my family. Please investigate all the other complains that have been submitted related to subaru's windshield cracking.

Dec 8, 2022

Windshied cracks from small rock chip am having to replace my secound windshield in less than 7 mounths time because it cracks with in a few minutes after inpact from small rock chip the safety issue would be the glass from the crack could inpair vision. I had the first one replaced by the dealerwith dealer supplied glass.

Nov 29, 2022

This vehicle is equipped with an auto start/stop system. It is automatically enabled every time the car is turned on. While it can be turned off, it must be turned off manually every time the automobile is started. It is (candidly) both easy to forget to disable and also a nuisance to disable with every start. The incident occurred during fresh snow fall with ice coat, temperature around 24F. I was stopped at a traffic light and the auto stop turned the engine off. As I slowly started to accelerate with a green light, the auto on "kicked on" resulting in loss of control and the car fish tailing.

Nov 12, 2022

The vehicle does not start at unforeseen times. Battery has been replaced. Safety is a risk if car would not start in unsafe location. Dealership has been unable to fix problem or find drain on battery or electrical problems. Car has had to be towed to dealership and jump started by a professional many times in order to drive to dealership.

Nov 11, 2022

The front windshield has cracked twice now with no point of impact. This week marks the second of these spontaneous cracks in 6 weeks. Both times, the crack appeared first thing in the morning after not being driven all night.

Oct 27, 2022

My windshield has developed a crack for no apparent reason. The crack starts at the top of the windshield near the rear view mirror, goes straight down for about 6", then travels horizontally, creating an 'L' shape. Total length is approximately 12". The vehicle has not been involved in an accident, nor was it struck by a stone or other road debris. The crack just showed up.

Sep 8, 2022

I have had the battery be completely drained overnight for no apparent reason. Last year I took the car in 3 or more times for the dealer to diagnose. They gave me a new batter and said it was the parking break draining the battery. This year (almost a year later) the battery is again being drained. When the roadside assistance came to jump it he said the battery (after the jump) was only 3.9 volts which is much lower than anything like interior lights being left on would do. i'm worried that they haven't fixed this mysterious drain on the battery. And I see that there has already been a class action suit against Subaru of America (SOA) has been battling an issue with drained batteries on the Outback and Ascent SUVs. The original lawsuit from 2020 against SOA alleged the SUVs had defective electrical systems causing premature battery failure. A second lawsuit in 2021 against Subaru claimed defective electrical components in the Subaru Forester, Outback, Ascent, Legacy, and WRX vehicles.

Windshield has a known cracking issue

Jul 22, 2022

This is my fourth cracked windshield in less than 2 years! I’ve never cracked a windshield in ANY other car I’ve owned in the last 20 years! The windshields do not seem to be strong enough to accommodate the flex of the frame of the vehicle. I hear the car flex over rough roads or speed bumps. I’m assuming the torsion of the vehicle is weakening the glass, and any minor impact will cause the windshield to crack. I haven’t been abusing the car at all, this time around I parked the car, came back 3 hours later and the windshield was cracked, I assume from the speed bumps on the way into the park. I was calm at first, but now am outraged! I cannot afford a new windshield every six months, especially at $1,000 a piece! Please help!

Windshied spontaneously cracked

Jun 19, 2022

I was driving in a residential neighborhood at low speed, about 20 mph. I slowed down because I needed to park at the curb, and also I was approaching a large speed bump. This was one of the wide, flat ones. I pulled over to the right curb a couple of car lengths before the speed bump, preparing to park. I went over the bump, accelerating a tiny bit to get over the bump. I was going maybe 10 miles an hour. As I came down off the bump, or shortly after that, the accelerator pedal moved down away from my foot. I felt the pedal move down and away so that my foot was no longer touching it. At the same time, the engine speed surged (I heard it rev), and the car lurched forward for a second or two. I put my foot on the brake and also saw the obstacle detection on the instrument panel and saw the red lights and heard the beeping, and the car stopped moving. I don’t know whether I braked first or the car did. I was still about 2 car lengths away from a parked car in front of me when my vehicle stopped. I took my vehicle to a dealership the next day. They performed diagnostics but were unable to find anything wrong with it.

Jun 11, 2022

1.car accelerated on its own—very scary. (Took the car to Cochran Subaru of Monroeville, but they said nothing was found wrong.) 2. The very next day, the real door would not latch and car would not lock. I reported these two issues to 1-800-SUBARU3. My case # is: 220610-163479 3. we did a “software” update bc we received a recall notice—it was completed at Cochran Subaru of Monroeville sometime in the fall of 2021, in March of 2022 while on vacation in Fla, the radio BLARED on its own, then stopped working altogether for a week or so—then just started working again.

I am on second battery for my 2020 Outback and it now won't hold a charge. It drains overnight / without use. I can assure you that I am not leaving any lights on.

May 6, 2022

The moon roof glass exploded and shattered while driving the car on a highway under the speed limit. The car is available for inspection though a repair has been initiated. Multiple pictures and a video were taken. If the inside shade cover had not been closed, shattered glass fragments would have cut the driver and passengers possibly impeding the driver’s vision and causing a crash. The problem shattered moon roof was confirmed by the dealer and a repair shop. No one would confirm what caused the moon roof glass to explode. The dealer’s service department and the repair shop inspected the problem. There was no warning. The glass just exploded with a very loud bang like a gun went off inside or near the care.

Apr 30, 2022

That main concern I have is the windshield. My windshield has been replaced once already and it seems no matter what speed or road we are traveling if anything hits the windshield it cracks. I am not talking a chip or little crack either I am talking tiny rock 45 mph crack halfway through the entire windshield. It can’t be that safe of safety glass if a pea gravel smashes it at 45mph. First time it happened we were traveling through a blizzard at 30 mph rock crack the entire windshield….. the Subaru windshield is super expensive and can only be put in at specific places.

Apr 10, 2022 Fire

3 weeks ago the all of the warning lights came on. Had vehicle towed to dealership. Could not find out what was wrong. Saw there was a lot of carbon build up which was unusual since there is only 26,000 miles on vehicle. After a week a dealership a cleaning took it home. Went back the next day. They inspected and stated it was the spark plugs and needed new fuel injectors. Had replaced. Everything still covered. Picked vehicle up finally after 17 days of it being there. When picking it up the paper work stated the vehicle had cylinder 1 misfires 30-45 times in a 3 hour period. But was assured the vehicle was repaired and fully inspected and 100% safe. Within 24hrs of driving the vehicle. The next morning we drove to school and with after the second light we smelled smoothing rolled windows down and but was sure if it was us. Then had slowed down to turn at the next light to turn to pull over but didn’t get that opportunity before a boom and smoke and flame came and i rushed out of the car and took immediate action and got my 4 year old out of her car seat. Before the whole car was up in flames. I have heard that similar vehicles had similar issues but have had other repairs to deal with it.There was no lights that came on in the vehicle to warn us that something was wrong so thought the smell was from outside. Insurance and the auto maker are inspecting but i had to alert the automaker the dealership wasn’t going to. They stated that the insurance and automaker will just compare notes.

Windshield crack from a rock chip expanded across entire windshield. Another rock chip 5 months later caused another 8” crack.

Mar 1, 2022

Our windshield has easily chipped and cracked repeatedly. We are having our windshield replaced for the 3rd time since November 2021, and it is March 1, 2023, this does not include the two times we have had chips repaired. Each time was due to a small piece of gravel or rock hitting our windshield while driving. Twice was at 20 MPH passing someone at the same speed. Anything that hits our windshield causes a crack or fracture. It is more expensive because we have the eye assist package. We are terrified of something larger hitting our windshield and potentially going directly through it injuring someone in the car.

Feb 27, 2022

Windshield cracked while parked in a line waiting to go through a carwash. Nothing was above the car that could have dropped on the windshield to cause it to crack. I heard a "crack" looked up and could see the crack starting from the edge of the driver's side window - within minutes it was approx 8 - 10 long. Thankfully no safety for me or others but depending upon where the crack was it could (and if it keeps growing will) impair visibility for driving. Not inspected - this occured less than 1 hour ago. No warning sign that it was going to happen. This is my 2nd windshield on this car that just randomly cracked. Last time it started middle of the window, bottom under the hood of the car and went straight up.

Feb 24, 2022

In the last 11 months, we have had to replace the front windshield four times due to significant cracks that occurred after a rock hit the windshield (3 times) and one time following a hailstone hit. The cracks do not show up immediately, but about two hours after the incident. The "Eyesight" safety features don't work when this happens. Our driving is in town or on a freeway. We DO NOT do off-road driving or driving on gravel/dirt roads. The windshields have been replaced with Subaru factory windshields and re-calibrated each time. The auto glass repair shop we use believes this cracking problem is a design issue as the glass is steeply angled and the thickness of the glass is thinner. This is our fourth Subaru and we have never had this issue. In the past, a rock hit would just bounce off the windshield or leave a small "star burst" nick that could be filled. I emailed Subaru of America and asked them what, if anything, they were doing to address this issue. I have not received a response to my email, sent over a week ago.

Feb 23, 2022

Windshield was hit by two rocks leaving dime sized stars at the base of the windshield. They were low and not in sightline. Have had many cars with same damage on windshield with no issues and driven for years without any change in the glass. When I got home I parked car in garage. The next afternoon when I looked at the windshield, the small stars had cracked in 4 different directions, to a size larger than a basketball. Now I'm forced to replace a windshield that on any other car would be fine.

Feb 15, 2022

Windshield has cracked 4 times in 21 months, at least 3 times this did not appear to impact related. The crack quickly spreads along the entire width of windshield over a 2-3 day period. We have replaced 3 times, each time through Subaru Clearlake dealership.

Feb 11, 2022

Windshield cracked while using the defroster. This is a 2020 Outback. I had the same problem on a 2019 Outback that went through 3 windshields in less than a year. These windshields are defective.

Within 2 months of purchase 2020 Outback the car's Infotainment center has continually malfunctioned including times when the car's backup camera is displayed while the car is in drive and moving forward. Eye-sight constantly disabled as well is infotainment center constantly blacking out and then resetting itself while car is in motion. Constant beepind telling driver to look at road - all especially in inclement weather. Car is unsafe. I have multiple videos showing this but they are too big to upload here.

my subaru has 12,ooo miles on it and in the past week has died on me. When you try to start the car and depress the brake, the brake locks and you cannot push it anymore, in addition, the battery does not turn over. On the first occasion, we tried to jump start the car but the battery read as normal activity and the car would not start after that. The car just started up for no apparent reason the following day. thankfully we were at home when this happened and we have a 2nd car. The second time, same thing with the brake when we tried to start car and no turnover with the battery but and the car still will not start on the following day but this time it looks like the battery has died. Taking it in to Subaru dealership where supposedly the have never heard of these problems before!

Jan 21, 2022

Windshield: Mid December noticed crack along right lateral side of windshield when car parked in garage. No preceding incident noted. Garage temp 40 degrees. Had windshield replaced with original Subaru replacement windshield at Safelite on 12/31/21. On 1/20/22, while driving 60 mph on highway, 33 degrees, snowing, wipers and defroster on, heard noise like a rock hitting windshield, and noticed a crack from the bottom/ middle of the windshield. There were no cars within 300 feet of my car so I doubt a rock was kicked up to hit my windshield. I believe windshield is defective. Will have it replaced again. Although this repair is covered by my insurance, repeat claims like this will cause insurance rates to go up for all consumers.

Battery issue: 2020 Subaru Outback When I purchased the vehicle in April 2020 I drove it for 3 Months then the battery died. The Dealer told me it was a faulty battery and then replaced it. (Battery #2) For the last year and a half I've been experiencing Problems starting/Navigation & Display Screen not working correctly. Three days ago guess what happened? My Battery died again....Called the Dealer and they told me to bring it right down and they'll look at it. They charged the battery and said you're good to go! I told them that is not the answer because as soon as I leave the battery is going to die again! They looked at me and said OK we'll put it on the big diagnostic machine and sure enough it came back with a need a new battery report! So they replaced it! (Battery #3). On the way home from the dealership I turned to my wife and said this car is not safe. It's like driving a moving time bomb. You'll never know when it's going to die again. That's when I decided to look it up and there it was "Subaru Battery law suit". Could you please help me? Battery drains when car sits idle for more than a week. No lights were accidentally left on. Had to jump start the car four times in less than a week. Subaru dealership attempted to tell me the battery was fine but the service advisor noted it was starting up sluggishly. Service did a full charge. Subaru's own website recommends driving the car at least a couple times a month, which is what I've done, but the battery still drains within two weeks. The Subaru dealership further told me that the battery has a memory and "learned" my driving habits (I purchased the car prior to the pandemic) and that is why the battery is not keeping a charge since I'm not driving it as often as they think I should. They also told me that I should disconnect the battery if I have to leave the car at an airport, for example if I go on vacation. That is absurd. The service advisor further told me that the warranty would likely not cover the battery replacement because they believe I'm not driving the car enough. I am concerned that the battery not holding a strong and sufficient charge will cause the car to not be able to restart at a traffic stop if I have not remembered to disengage the fuel-saving feature. While I carry a jump starting kit, I would need to get out in the road and try to hurriedly jump the car. There are several reports online with a parasitic drain where the computer does not go into a sleep mode when the car is off.

Dec 4, 2021

Windshield has cracked in same area as those Subaru windscreens in the class action suit just settled.

Dec 1, 2021

Returned to vehicle and battery was dead. While at work, received notification through Subaru app that alarm was triggered. Same thing happened last week. Tailgate was making clicking sound like it was trying to open. Once battery was jumped, the tailgate continued clicking. Researched online and found that this is a known issue for Subaru Outback and Ascent vehicles of certain years.

While driving down interstate, windshield must have made contact with rock or other foreign object at mid/low left side of glass. I say must have because object too small to create any noticeable sound at impact. Within minutes, large linear crack appeared extending slightly farther than midline. This is the 2nd incident of this type creating damage to the windshield of this vehicle. Another previous incident occurred with front passenger window. In all 3 incidents, damage far exceeds what would be expected given size of initial impact area.

Oct 7, 2021

Noted to have large vertical crack in front passenger window while driving. Appears area of impact approximately size of #2 mechanical pencil lead point. No sound from impact noticeable. Resulting damage: large vertical crack extending the entire span of passenger window. Vehicle less than 1 year old at time. This vehicle has had 2 other grossly exaggerated glass incidents of this type (to the windshield). In all 3 incidents, damage far exceeds what would be expected given size of initial impact area.

Lane Departure feature malfunction at higher speeds: will reactivate a few seconds after physically deactivating the control; spontaneously activates and inactivates or activates on one side only - pulls aggressively to one side or the other, even though vehicle is centered in highway. Will not stay inactivated but fluctuates on/off. It is dangerous and causes fatigue in wrestling with the steering.

Sep 9, 2021

On Saturday 09/04/2021, when I got into my car to drive I noticed that my windshield had a huge crack in it. I could not see any visible rock cracks and my car was parked overnight. This windshield needs to be replaced soon because the crack is getting bigger every day even though I’m not even driving. I looked up what the problem could be and noticed there was a lawsuit against Subaru for their windshields that just cracks with no reason. I was then referred to report my car as well.

I went to drive on August 20, 2021 and I haven’t driven since August 15, 2021. When I went to drive my car on the 20th I noticed a huge crack in my windshield with no place of impact that something hit the windshield. There was no crack on the windshield on the 15th. Every time I drive it, it keeps growing.

Aug 14, 2021

A Small rock hit my windshield and the windshield instantly cracked. Subaru said the windshield was not covered under standard warranty and recommended a local glass company. The windshield was replaced with another Subaru windshield that cracked 3 days later while the car was parked inside my closed garage. The second windshield never got hit by anything - it just cracked for no reason. The glass company said it was a stress fracture. The initial fracture was right across my line of sight, making it difficult to see. The fracture continued to spread and new cracks were developing. I now have a third windshield on a car that is one year old.

My 2020 Outback has suddenly stalled three times. Two of the three times was at about 55 mph. The check engine light came on each time and eventually cleared itself, before I could take the car to a Subaru service Department. I did take the car to a Subaru service Department and each time they said there was no current problem and didn't make a repair. I called Subaru of America several times.

Aug 3, 2021

I was trying to open the trunk with the button in the car, it didn’t work, so I pulled the car forward thinking it was the problem, but it wasn’t. I got out of the left the door open and attempted to open it, but it would not. With the keys in my hand, I shut the driver’s side door, and attempted to push the button on the back, but that still didn’t work, even using the key fob. I went back to the driver’s side, only to find that the doors somehow became locked with the car on and the keys in my hands. The doors would not unlock even though I touched the driver’s front and the passenger’s front doors. Using the key fob did not work. Luckily this car has the key in the fob and that’s what I had to use to enter the car. Actually, this is two incidents in one, the trunk would not open and the doors locked with the car running and the keys in my hand. The trunk oddly just spontaneously started to work again after the analogue key was used on the door. Of note, the monitor and Apple CarPlay had been on the fritz all morning and continued. I’m not sure if the electronics caused a problem with trunk opening and the car doors locking while the car was running.

I was hit by a very small pebble in the freeway which left a small crack smaller than the diameter of a nickel. My insurance sent safelite to repair the small crack. The technician started work on the small crack and immediately popped and turned into a 10-12 inch crack which meant the windshield had to be replaced. I did not have to pay the cost of the replacement windshield as safelite said it was still under warranty.

The main control module goes completely blank while driving, eventually rebooting itself. Just recently I have documented blanking on April 9th, May 1, May 9, May 30, and June 13. One instance of the voice for navigation going silent on May 14 also occurred. The module was replaced today and on the way home from the dealership, it went blank again.

Along with the ongoing class action lawsuits about the Subaru Outback lower windshields, we have had a crack in our lower windshield that popped up ~30 seconds after the smallest stone hit the windshield. We've had the same small stones hit our windshield on our other cars for decades and never had a crack (around 9-12 inches in length) come up like this.

Jun 11, 2021

Windshield developed a crack from no apparent external cause and crack has spread across windshield from driver's side to vmcenter if vehicle obscuring driver view of roadway. I live in MT where cracked windshields are very common, usually occuring due to rock or pebble striking glass and then spreading from a "bullseye" to a crack. This incident occured with no apparent external object striking vehicle, not was the crack preceded by the common bullseye normally created by flying gravel or rock.

Cracked Windshield

May 20, 2021

UNKNOWN - I was pulling away from my parking spot at work and heard a "pop" sound. I looked up and the windshield cracked right at the top in the middle where the rear view mirror is located. I am familiar with this issue as it also happened to my 2012 Subaru Outback. It is quite unsettling because you don't know when/if it will spread even further. Everything about Subaru's are great except for the cheap windshield.

After taking my car to dealer for WRI20 RECALL on 03/10/21, I have experienced intermittent issues with the touch screen and steering wheel controls. My touch screen will go black, act as if rebooting, radio button non responsive, “No audio” message across top of screen which affects radio and phone (safety issue) and contacts from phone appear and disappear. On my dash, the message ‘keep your eyes on the road” would continue repeatedly with my eyes staring straight at the road (irritating and safety issue)- voice control would not respond at all or it would ask if I wanted to set it up (already done). I drive over the Sierra (Donner Pass) quite frequently and need the security of a working navigation system (blank screen - no navigation) and an operational phone. I brought my car in for service initially 04/01/21 but it was returned 04/02/21 with no issues being replicated and car in “normal” working order. My car has now been sitting at the dealership since 04/25/21 with the same issues as before and I am driving a loaner. I have been in touch with Subaru and a case has been opened. I was supposed to hear from them today but no contact locally or from corporate. The only thing I have been told is - if they can not replicate the problem they can not do anything. I have provided photos of some of the issues (when I could safely take pic) but still been told nothing can be done under warranty if they can’t replicate it. I am so frustrated that Subaru wants to return a car to me that I DO NOT feel safe driving.

I HAVE A 2020 SUBARU OUTBACK. THE WINDSHIELDS KEEP BREAKING. I JUST HAD THE THIRD (3RD) WINDSHIELD INSTALLED IN THIS 2020 VEHICLE AND IT WAS CRACKED BEFORE IT WAS TWO WEEKS OLD. THE LAST WINDSHIELD I HAD WAS SPIDER WEBS OF CRACKS - I DROVE IT LIKE THAT FOR MONTHS WAITING ON SUBARU TO FIX THE GLASS ISSUE. IT IS NOT FIXED. I HAVE DRIVEN CARS IN THIS AREA FOR TWO DECADES AND I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS. THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE NEW SUBARU WINDSHIELDS. SMALL DEBRIS WILL HIT THE CAR ON HWY/INTERSTATE THAT WOULD NOT USUALLY CRACK GLASS AND IT CRACKS. IT CHIPS VERY EASY AND THEN CRACKS TO A LENGTH THAT IS NOT ABLE TO BE REPAIRED. I THINK SOME OF THE CRACKS JUST APPEAR. BIZARRE. A FAMILY MEMBER HAS 2021 ASCENT AND JUST HAD TO REPLACE HER WINDSHIELD ALSO.

I'M CURIOUS TO KNOW IF ANYONE ELSE HAS HAD THE PROBLEM THAT I'VE BEEN HAVING WITH MY CAR. THE CAR'S CCM WOULD OCCASIONALLY FREEZE; SAY APPLE CARPLAY IS UNAVAILABLE AND RESTART; THE CCM WOULD GO BLANK, BUT STILL BACKLIT; OR JUST FREEZE ATTEMPT TO RESTART, BUT NOT TURN BACK ON RENDERING ITEMS IN THE CAR USELESS, LIKE VOICE CONTROL AND JUST EVERYTHING!! SUBARU CLAIMS THAT THERE'S NOTHING WRONG AND I JUST HAVE A GRIEVANCE. I'M NOT SURE HOW THAT'S THE CASE, WHEN THERE'S VIDEO EVIDENCE. I HAVE A LOANER CAR FROM THE DEALERSHIP, AND TURNED OFF THE DISPLAY (I DIDN'T KNOW THAT COULD BE DONE), BUT THE VOICE CONTROL WORKED IN THE LOANER THAT WAS NOT HAVING A PROBLEM AS OPPOSED TO MINE. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF ANYONE ELSE HAS WRITTEN IN WITH THAT COMPLAINT. OF NOTE, I'VE BEEN GOING INTO THE DEALERSHIP FOR THIS PROBLEM SINCE OCTOBER 2020, AND I'VE ONLY OWNED THE CAR SINCE JUL 2020. I HAD IT CHECKED IN VIRGINIA AND OKLAHOMA CITY. I RECEIVED A LOANER CAR ON THURSDAY, 8 APR 2020, FOR THE PROBLEM ONLY AFTER I NOTIFIED THE DEALERSHIP THAT I CONTACTED SUBARU ABOUT THE PROBLEM. I RECEIVED A TEXT STATING THAT THE CAR WAS READY, BUT NO RESPONSE AS TO WHAT WAS DONE. AGAIN, I RECEIVED THE 'SOFTWARE IS UP TO DATE'. BE AWARE THAT WHEN THE SCREEN GOES BLANK, YOU HAVE NO CONTROL OVER ANYTHING, NOT EVEN VOICE CONTROL. I DID TEST THAT WHILE MY CAR WAS MALFUNCTIONING A D ALSO DISPLAYING THAT EYESIGHT AND REAR ASSIST BRAKING WERE ALSO NOT FUNCTIONAL. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD, BECAUSE I WAS UTILIZING NAVIGATION SINCE I DIDN'T KNOW WHERE I WAS GOING AT THE TIME. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME DURING NAVIGATION THAT THIS HAS OCCURRED. ALTHOUGH I RECEIVED AN ERROR MESSAGE FROM THE CAR VIA TEXT ON EASTER SUNDAY, THE MY SUBARU APP SENT AN 'ALL SYSTEMS FUNCTIONAL' FOR 30 DAYS, BUT I JUST HAD ERRORS A FEW DAYS PRIOR. IT'S LIKE THE HEALTH REPORT IS ONLY FOR THAT MOMENT IN TIME AND NOT REALLY FOR 30 DAYS.

NOW WITH 10 MONTHS OF OWNERSHIP AND UNDER 6,000 MILES, I HAVE TO JUMP IT EVERY DAY. WHEN I TOOK IT IN, DEALERSHIP SAID BATTERY AND ALTERNATOR WERE FINE. IF BATTERY IS FINE, MUST BE ELECTRICAL. EITHER WAY, VERY UNHAPPY WITH THIS DEFECT IN MY NEW CAR.

THE LEFT-MOST DASH VENT RATTLES INTERMITTENTLY, MOST OFTEN ON ROUGH ROAD SURFACE. VEHICLE PURCHASED IN DECEMBER 2019, AND RATTLE STARTED IN APRIL 2020. MY LOCAL DEALER REPLACED THE VENT, BUT THE RATTLE CONTINUES AND APPEARS TO COME FROM BEHIND THE VENT. BECAUSE IT'S INTERMITTENT AND CAN'T BE REPRODUCED ON DEMAND I'VE THOROUGHLY DOCUMENTED IT WITH AUDIO/VIDEO RECORDINGS. ESCALATING WITH SUBARU OF AMERICA TO GET IT RESOLVED.

MY 2020 SUBARU IS 9 MONTHS OLD AND THIS WILL BE THE 2ND WINDSHIELD I WILL BE REPLACING IN THE CAR. THE FIRST TIME THE CAR WAS IN MOTION BUT NOT STRUCK BY DEBRIS. THE SECOND TIME THERE WAS DEBRIS THAT HIT THE WINDSHIELD AND THE CRACK MOVED QUICKLY ACROSS THE WINDSHIELD WITHOUT STOPPING. THERE WAS A CLASS ACTION SUIT ABOUT THE FAULTY WINDSHIELDS WITH MANY SUBARU OWNERS INVOLVED AND RECENTLY THE SUIT WAS DISMISSED BY THE COURT. I UNDERSTAND OUTBACKS AND FORESTERS HAVE DEFECTIVE WINDSHIELDS GOING BACK AS FAR AS 2016 AND SUBARU HAS NOT ADDRESSED THE PROBLEM. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THE WINDSHIELD IS THINNER THAN MOST TO ACCOMMODATE THE SENSORS. THE COST TO REPLACE A WINDSHIELD IS $900+ EACH TIME DUE TO THE NEED FOR ONLY A SUBARU WINDSHIELD AND THE CALIBRATION OF THE SENSORS NEEDED.

CLASSIC SUBARU WEAK WINDSHIELD GLASS ISSUE. WHILE TRAVELING ON A SMALL SIDE STREET ABOUT 40MPH, SOMETHING THAT WAS INAUDIBLE HIT MY FRONT GLASS LAST NIGHT WHILE GOING TO THE STORE. WE SAW WHAT APPEARED TO BE A VERY SMALL CHIP. ON THE WAY HOME FROM THE STORE THE SMALL CHIP TURNED INTO A STREAKING SPIDERWEB JUST FROM HITTING PAVEMENT DIVISIONS ON THE HIGHWAY. THIS CAR HAS LESS THAN 600 MILES ON IT. THE SUBARU SALESMEN WERE VERY PUSHY ABOUT BUYING THEIR DING, DENT, GLASS PROTECTION STATING THAT THEY KNOW THE GLASS IS ABOUT 900 DOLLARS TO FIX. I THINK THEY KNOW THE GLASS IS WEAK. NOW I AM OUT THE COSTS OF A WINDSHIELD PLUS THE TINT TO HAVE IT RE-TINTED. SO WE ARE TALKING WELL OVER 1K IF I HAVE THE DEALERSHIP INSTALL THE GLASS AND RE-CALIBRATE THE EYESIGHT PROGRAM TO THE WINDSHIELD.

I HAVE OWNED MY 2020 SUBARU OUTBACK FOR ONLY 2 MONTHS. MY CAR WILL NOW NOT START. AFTER JUMPING THE VEHICLE/ CHARGING THE BATTERY, IT WILL START AGAIN AND THEN SHUT BACK OFF. THERE APPEARS TO BE AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE THAT IS CAUSING MY BATTERY TO DRAIN VERY RAPIDLY. CHANGING THE BATTERY DOES NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. FIXING THE ELECTRICAL ISSUE IS THE ONLY SOLUTION. SUBARU HAS THIS PROBLEM WITH OUTBACKS AND ASCENTS FROM 2017 TO 2020 AND NEEDS TO ISSUE A RECALL.

JULY 2, 2020: THE FRONT WINDSHIELD CRACKED SEEMINGLY WITHOUT CAUSE WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE. AFTER STOPPING, IT APPEARED TO HAVE A TINY CHIP NEAR THE REAR-VIEW MIRROR AND A CRACK ABOUT 3 FEET LONG EXTENDING FROM IT. THIS WINDSHIELD WAS REPLACED ON JULY 8, 2020. JULY 19, 2020: THE NEW WINDSHIELD RECEIVED A TINY ROCK CHIP WHILE DRIVING. THE ROCK CHIP WAS LESS THAN 1 INCH IN SIZE SO A REPAIR WAS TO BE ATTEMPTED. THE REPAIR WAS UNSUCCESSFUL AS THE ROCK CHIP IMMEDIATELY SPREAD WHEN SUCTION WAS APPLIED TO THE SURFACE.

WHILE DRIVING ALONG ROUTE 81 SOUTH OF CARLISLE PA. AN AUDIBLE POP WAS HEARD. I NOTED NOTHING AT THE TIME. LATER IN THE DAY, THIS 2 FOOT CRACK APPEARED IN THE WINDSHIELD. I DON'T BELIEVE THE CRACK IS THE RESULT OF AN OBJECT AS THERE IS NO APPARENT POINT OF IMPACT AND ONLY THE THE VERY SMALL AREA ADJOINING THE FRAME IS AT ALL DISTURBED ASIDE FROM THE OBVIOUS CLEAN CRACK.

WE PURCHASED A 2020 OUTBACK LIMITED 4/28/2020. THE SALESMAN, [XXX], DELIVERED THE CAR TO OUR HOME ON 5/1/2020. THE SECOND TIME WE DROVE THE VEHICLE, 5/6/2020, A CRACK SUDDENLY APPEARED ON THE LOWER PASSENGER SIDE OF THE FRONT WINDSHIELD AS WE WERE DRIVING ON AN INTERSTATE HIGHWAY. (MY HUSBAND IS AN ATK AMPUTEE AND WANTED TO PRACTICE DRIVING THE CAR WITH HIS PROSTHETIC LEG BEFORE DRIVING 30+ MILES TO A DOCTOR APPOINTMENT.) THERE WAS NO APPARENT REASON FOR THE CRACK AS THERE WERE NO AUTOMOBILES AROUND US. WE ALREADY HAD AN APPT TO RETURN THE CAR TO THE DEALER THAT WEEK TO INSTALL OPTIONS WE HAD PURCHASED AT SALE. AT THAT TIME WE LEARNED THE WINDSHIELD WAS NOT PART OF THE WARRANTY AGREEMENT WE HAD SIGNED AND THE FINANCE AGENT IN NO WAY ENCOURAGED US TO SIGN THAT PORTION OF THE AGREEMENT. NOR DID HE INFORM US OF THE HIGH COST OF WINDSHIELD REPLACEMENT AND ELECTRONICS RE-CALIBRATION. WE PAID $1143.34 TO REPLACE THE FRONT WINDSHIELD AND RE-CALIBRATE THE ELECTRONICS. OUR INSURANCE WAS A $1000 DEDUCTIBLE WOULD WOULD NOT ALLOW FILINGS FROM DEALERSHIPS AS THEY ARE NOT APPROVED REPAIR SITES. AT THAT TIME WE ALSO PAID AN ADDITIONAL $500 TO PURCHASE THE WINDSHIELD WARRANTY. INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

SUBARU EYESIGHT LANE CENTERING FAILURE. DATE: 27APR 2020, TIME: ABOUT 9:45AM, LOCATION: I-75 SOUTH BOUND BETWEEN DAYTON AND CINCINNATE OHIO, ABOUT MILE MARKER 29.8. ROAD CONDITIONS: DRY, SUNNY AND BRIGHT.: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL ON, LANE CENTERING ON. VECHILE MILAGE ABOUT 7700 MILES. WHILE PASSING A SEMI ON THE LEFT, AT THE REAR CORNER OF THE SEMI THE STEERING WHEEL TRIED TO MAKE A HARD SHARP RIGHT TURN.AS IF THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE LANE HAD MOVED WAY TO THE RIGHT. I HAD A HARD GRIP ON THE STEERING WHEEL WHICH WAS THE ONLY THING THAT KEPT ME FROM CRASHING INTO THE LEFT REAR OF THE SEMI TRAILER.. I HAVE NOTICED IN THE PAST THAT THE LANE CENTERING HAS A TENDANCY TO STEER CLOSE TO SEMI'S WHILE PASSING EITHER ON THE RIGHT OR THE LEFT. FOR THIS REASON I TEND TO WATCH CLOSELY WHEN PASSING BUT THIS SUPRISED ME AT HOW HARD THE STEERING TRIED TO EXECUTE A LANE CHANGE, IT WAS ALMOST LIKE SOMEONE JERKED THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE RIGHT. AFTER BRINGING IT BACK ON COARSE THE LANE CENTERING STAYED IN THE PROPER LANE ABET, WANTING TO STAY TOWARDS THE RIGHT SIDE WHILE FINISHING PASSING. LANE CENTERING FUNCTIONED PROPERLY FOR THE NEXT FEW MILES AT WHICH TIME I TURNED IT OFF DUE TO APPROACHING SEVERAL SEMI'S. I DON'T BELIEVE THE SUBARA'S EYESIGHT LANE CENTERING FUNCTION IS RELIABLE. THIS IS ALSO THE SECOND TIME THE LANE CENTERING HAS TRIED TO EXECUTE A LANE CHANGE SINCE OWNING THE VEHICLE.

THE LOW BEAM'S ANGLE ON THE SELF-LEVELING HEADLIGHT UNITS IS TOO FLAT BLINDING ONCOMING TRAFFIC (EVERY OTHER CAR AND THIRD TRUCK FLASHES THEIR HIGH BEAMS AT ME). THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE HANDSFREE BLUETOOTH PROTOCOL IS INADEQUATE AS INCOMING CALL VOLUME IS TOO LOW (EVEN AFTER INCREASING SPEAKER VOLUME TO MAXIMUM). IT MAKES HANDSFREE OPERATION OF YOUR MOBILE PHONE ALL BUT WORTHLESS WHILE HANDSFREE OPERATION IS REQUIRED BY LAW IN MY STATE. BOTH ISSUES ARE SAFETY ISSUES AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED.

WINDSHIELD CRACKED FROM THE BOTTOM WHEN THE HEATER AND DEFROSTER WERE USED TO PREHEAT THE CAR ON COLD MORNING IN THE DRIVEWAY. THERMAL SHOCK FROM THE OUTSIDE VS INSIDE TEMPERATURE CAUSED THE WINDSHIELD TO CRACK UPWARDS AND THEN SPLIT IN BOTH LATERAL DIRECTIONS. COINCIDENTALLY, THE CAR IS NEW AND WAS MAKING A CREAKING NOISE WHEN I TURNED TO THE RIGHT WHICH I COULD NOT SOURCE. NOW THE WINDOW IS CRACKED AND THE NOISE IS GONE. TELLS ME THE WINDSHIELD WAS TOO TIGHT AND UNDER STRESS.

THE WINDSHIELD IS TOO FRAGILE. I'VE OWNED THIS CAR FOR LESS THAN 4 MONTHS, HAVE ALREADY HAD MY WINDSHIELD REPLACED ONCE. LITERALLY 2 WEEKS AFTER REPLACEMENT, ANOTHER CRACK. I DIDN'T EVEN HEAR A ROCK HIT THE WINDSHIELD. I WAS DRIVING OFF THE EXIT OF A FREEWAY, NO ONE IN FRONT OF ME, I HEARD A SMALL CRACKING NOISE. I NOTICED A BULLSEYE CRACK ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. IF THE GLASS CAN'T EVEN SUSTAIN A SMALL ROCK HITTING IT (SO SMALL THAT I DIDNT EVEN HEAR IT HIT THE WINDSHIELD) HOW DOES THIS GLASS HOLD UP IN ACCIDENTS?

I EXPERIENCED TWO INCIDENTS WITH THE LIFT GATE ON MY 2020 OUTBACK LIMITED XT WHICH I BELIEVE TO BE SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERNS. THEY BOTH HAPPENED ON 11/23/2019. FIRST INCIDENT: THE CAR WAS IN AN INDOOR PARKING GARAGE, BACKED UP TO THE WALL WITH ABOUT 4 FT OF CLEARANCE BETWEEN THE CLOSED LIFT GATE AND THE WALL. I HAD JUST PUT MY 2-YEAR-OLD GRANDSON INTO HIS STROLLER, AND WE WERE BETWEEN THE REAR OF THE CAR AND THE WALL. AS I WAS WHEELING THE STROLLER AWAY FROM THE CAR, THE LIFT GATE AUTOMATICALLY OPENED AND PINNED THE STROLLER AGAINST THE WALL! I WAS NOT TOUCHING THE KEY FOB IN ANY WAY. THE GATE DID NOT IMMEDIATELY SENSE THE OBSTRUCTION, AND IT CONTINUED TO FORCE ITSELF AGAINST THE STROLLER. I HAD TO PUSH FORCEFULLY AGAINST THE LIFT GATE IN ORDER TO FREE MY GRANDSON AND ME. SECOND INCIDENT: AFTER RETURNING TO THE CAR WHICH WAS PARKED AS DESCRIBED IN THE FIRST INCIDENT, THE LIFT GATE FORCEFULLY HIT MY WIFE ON THE HEAD! I HAD RAISED THE GATE, AND AFTER THE GATE WAS ALL THE WAY UP, MY WIFE BENT DOWN TO PUT AN ITEM IN. THE LIFT GATE CAME DOWN ON HER HEAD. SHE WAS IN EXCRUCIATING PAIN! IT HAS BEEN ABOUT 24 HOURS SINCE THIS OCCURRED, AND SHE IS STILL EXPERIENCING HEADACHE, NAUSEA AND BLURRED VISION. WE ARE NOW SEEKING MEDICAL ATTENTION. LATER THAT AFTERNOON I EXPERIMENTED WITH THE GATE, AND IT MALFUNCTIONED THE SAME WAY (2ND INCIDENT) 2 MORE TIMES! AFTER IT WENT UP ALL THE WAY, THE GATE IMMEDIATELY CAME DOWN AUTOMATICALLY! (WITHOUT THE KEY FOB BEING PHYSICALLY CONTACTED IN ANY WAY)

ALL FOUR FRONT VENTS IN DASH BOARD RATTLE WHEN GOING ABOUT 40 MPH ON SLIGHTLY ROUGH SURFACE. ALSO LOUD SOUND THAT SOUNDS LIKE POPCORN POPPING ON PASSENGER SIDE THAT SEEMS TO BE COMING FROM THE PASSENGER CORNER OF THE FRONT WINDSHIELD OR DASH BOARD. THE POPCORN SOUND STARTS WHEN DRIVING AT 65 TO 70 MPH.
