This Problem Across All Years
All Visibility/wiper Complaints (313)
I am on my third windshield in les than a year. The tiniest pebble will crack the windshield, or sudden changes to weather has now caused a stress crack. Seems to be poor weight distribution on the design. There is extensive customer complaints on line with the same issue. Insurance will only cover two a year. There were no warnings of this issue when the car was purchased. This is an expensive hazard to keep having issues with. They need to do a recall on a fix.
Windshield cracked from a rock chip. Within 1 day, the crack had expanded to 12 inches across the windshield.
Problem component: exterior mirror on driver side It was raining, I was driving, I heard what sounded like a loud explosion by my driver side window. After the initial shock, I thought a tire had blown out, but car drove ok and no tire warning light came on. It was a rural road with no shoulder, only deep stormwater ditch along the roadside, so there was no place to safely pull over in traffic to assess what may have happened. I drove about 2-3 miles before I could pull over at a safe spot. There I saw that the back side of my driver side mirror had completely disappeared. Wires were exposed. It appeared to have exploded off for no apparent reason. The body of the car was completely fine, the white exterior paint of the car was perfect, the actual housing of the mirror showed no marks, there are no dings or cracks in windows. No sign of any debris hitting the car. I reported it to Subaru general headquarters, and gave them all the info. I have an appt with local Subaru dealer this week. The mirror and housing are still on the car, minus the back, which is gone. My husband returned to the scene a few minutes later and searched for the piece that had propelled off the mirror or for any debris that could have caused the mirror to explode. There was nothing on the road, so wherever the back of the mirror went, it must have propelled far off the road. Safety issue: because an explosion like that nearly caused me to lose control of the car. And the piece that propelled off the mirror could have hit another car. Additional info. at the time of mirror exploding: my windshield wipers were on, it was a warm day so my air-conditioning was on, good chance my front dehumidifier was on. Car is equipped with heated mirrors, but heat was off.
I have 2020 Subaru Outback and have had 14 windshield replacements/repairs. The windshield has spider cracked out of nowhere and has been unable to take the smallest impact without cracking in multiple locations. I have submitted multiple complaints to Subaru and was informed the issue is unique to my vehicle, but the car has never been inspected by Subaru, regardless of countless requests to do so. All but one windshield replacement has been submitted through my insurance, Subaru has covered one replacement. The last time I spoke with a Subaru representative I was informed it was not Subarus issue. No one was hurt during any windshield incidents but the quality and safety of the windshield is dangerous. Subaru has refused to thoroughly inspect my windshield and the safety of my vehicle.
We are on our 3rd broken windshield in 3 years. We do not drive the car very often or drive any extreme ways. This is more broken windshields than I have had in my whole life in just a few years having this car. There must be something wrong with the way it’s made.
This is a safety issue regarding the durability of windshields. I have had 2 incidents now with my 2020 subaru outback having a cracked windshield. Both times it came on suddenly with at least a foot long crack or more the first time and an 18 inch crack the second time just recently. I reported the incident to the service manager this time and he put me in touch with customer advocacy at subaru who is waiting for a report from the diagnosis on Monday, July 22. The first crack was in March 2024. Prior to the crack happening, I noticed a drip of dried substance running down the inside of my windshield from the top of the windshield. I thought it must be sealant and was going to contact subaru. However, without warning, I pulled out of my garage one morning to find a crack across the driver side of the windshield at least a foot or longer. There had been no incident of any rock hitting my windshield that I noticed and there was no damage to the paint on frame close to where the crack started which was on the outer edge of the windshield. The crack grew larger and crossed over the driver's visibility. I asked if there had been a recall since I thought this was odd and spontaneous but there was none. The service repair person said if a rock chip occurs in the defroster area in the perimeter of the windshield, the windshield will sustain a long crack. So I believed that something like that must have happened in my lack of knowledge of prior issues with subaru windshields. I had a $1000 deductible on my insurance and the repair was over that. Subaru refused to negotiate with State Farm to reduce the price so I paid the entire amount out of pocket. The second crack occurred while I was driving in the rain. I turned off my wipers to find an 18 inch long crack on the passenger side of the windshield starting at outer edge of glass. No incident of a rock chip, no damage to paint on frame.
I am on my 4th windshield on a 2020 Subaru Outback
Windshield Cracked on vehicle, this is the 2nd incident and second full windshield replacement In 2 years, noth OEM.
A small horizontal crack recently appeared on my Outback's front windshield while it was sitting in a garage overnight. The crack started from the passenger side and has now crept over to the middle of the windshield. Previous to this incident, the car had been sitting unused for over a month, so there was no opportunity for rocks or other debris from the road to cause the crack. This is the second time that the windshield has developed a crack out of thin air. I have replaced the windshield at least five times since owning the vehicle, in addition to having small chips from rocks repaired twice. These incidents are potentially dangerous and could possible interfere with the vehicle's automated systems such as collision detection and cameras.
Windshield developed crack without impact. Crack runs from the bottom of windshield in front of steering wheel up to the middle of the windshield, impairing visibility. This is the fourth failed windshield on this vehicle within 4 years and 60,000 miles. Average lifespan of windshield on this car is less than 12 months. Previous windshields cracked with minor hits from pebbles at highway speeds. Windshield has not been inspected by manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives, but is available for inspection.
Have had to replace front windshield 4 times in less than two (2) years due to windshield being cracked by small debris from other vehicles passing by. These have been very minor rocks that have hit the windshield with three of the times it occurred at less than 40 mph. One occurred when I was driving in a residential area at 20 mph. One event occurred spontaneously overnight with the car sitting inside an enclosed garage. Took a picture of the latest event. Concerned that if the window cracks that easy, what would happen if I am in an accident. Subaru is aware of the problem. Windshields have not been inspected by others. No warning lamps, messages, et cetera are related to these events. Review of web comments reveal that it is not an isolated event. Seems to be a design issue and how their Eyesight system affects the windshield design.
On 2/20, a crack appeared across the drivers side of my windshield while my car was parked. The crack is approximately 15" long extending from the lower side of the windshield, curving up toward the middle of the windshield. The crack is significant enough that it will require replacement.
Heated windshield area where the windshield wipers are shorted out and caused the windshield to crack
The windshield is ridiculously susceptible to cracks. I’m on my third windshield in 4 years. I had the windshield last replaced in October and had a new crack within a month. I didn’t even notice anything hitting the windshield with this last crack.
When in reverse, the view behind the vehicle when using the rear camera display is poor when there is a shadow behind the vehicle making it difficult to see a person, especially a child. The rear view camera in my 2016 subaru Outback did not have this problem with shadows.
Windshield developed a crack for no apparent reason on the lower passenger side. Car was parked. Only unusual circumstance is that was a hot day.
The windshield in my 2020 Subaru Outback has cracked spontaneously twice. I had 75K Bumper to Bumper Warranty, which the dealer would not honor the first time the window broke. He said that it was warranted for repair, not replacement. I argued until he gave me a 50% discount. My windshield broke again today. I had just pulled out onto the street and was traveling about 10MPH. No rocks or stone touched the windshield. The sound of the crack startled me. I thought that there had to be an issue. Consequently as I looked online, I have discovered this is a design flaw or something as the problem is widespread. Two cracks in year is not right and it is expensive.
I am replacing 3rd windshield since September 2022. This was definitely caused by a rock chip but had been resin repaired. With defroster blowing on a cool morning the windshield cracked across the lower portion. The replacement windshield cracked for no reason other than it was cold during a December night and was replaced in April. That windshield cracked spontaneously while driving in the rain one month after install. A Subaru dealer took photos or I have sent photos to them of all incidents for submission to my Subaru insurance. I have now met the maximum allowed for windshield replacement. All windshields were replaced at an authorized Subaru dealer.
Over the course of the nearly three years I have owned my vehicle, the windshield has either spontaneously cracked or cracked from a very very small chip three times. Two of these occurred while I was driving, with no debris impact with the vehicle windshield. There have been several suits filed against Subaru for similar cases, including for the 2020 Outback model. This has been three times in about two and a half years, quadruple the amount for my previous vehicle. Not only is this a vision impairment while driving and a financial burden to fix, I also worry about more catastrophic failure should anything significant impact the windshield while driving. I have had the glass repaired twice, and both times the repair technicians could not understand how such a significant crack had occurred.
While driving on I-26, a small rock made an initially small crack in the windshield. Over time, while still driving, we watched the crack expand larger and larger, spreading with multiple new arms across the entire passenger side of the windshield. After parking at home in the garage and scheduling windshield replacement for the next day, we continued to notice the crack continuing to propagate further into the driver side. The incident happened on 5/21/23 and the windshield was replaced on 5/23/23.
-The windshield has cracked in the same place for no apparent reason. -The cracked windshield can affect the use of the safety systems built into the windshield. -I'm not sure how this can be "reproduced" as we are talking about a broken windshield although the windshield has been fixed already once and now, the second break has occurred. -Not inspected but replaced once. It is currently broken and can be inspected again if need be. -The first one appeared in August 2022, the second in May 2023
On May 3, 2023 (~12:30pm local time) I was driving on the highway at approximately 60mph and there was a 'pop' sound. I looked at my windshield and an L-shaped crack appeared from the base of the windshield near the wipers up to half-way on the windshield. There was no damage to the windshield to indicate a rock had hit it or the car in any way. Given the poor quality OEM windshields that Subaru has installed in past models (2015-2016) that also have had this problem, I would like to notify the NHTSA so that Subaru can be notified. When I called my dealer directly, there was not much help on the cause.
A crack has spontaneously appeared at the base of my windshield after no apparent damage. The crack is spreading across my windshield and will affect my adaptive cruse control and automatic emergency breaking if it interferes with the Subaru eye-sight system at the top of my windshield. I have not taken the vehicle in for service but I did see this was an issue that lead to recalls on previous outback models but not currently a recall for the 2020 Subaru Outback. I do not have any current warning lamps or messages.
I'm currently on my third windshield for this vehicle. The first windshield was replaced by Subaru due to a random crack that developed on the passenger side and traveled to the driver side. No visible damage caused this to occur. The second windshield was hit by a tiny stone driving down city streets. 3 days later the same type of crack, like the first windshield, developed and moved from from passenger to driver side. We'll see how long this third windshield lasts. I've had numerous cars without this problem. Stone chips were easily repaired without major cracking occurring. There is something very odd about how fragile the windshields on Subaru vehicles are. This is not a cheap replacement due to their driver assist technology. Subaru will not replace this once they see and sign of a stone impact.
Purchased my 2020 Outback only about two months ago. Just this last week two separate cracks started from the edge of the window on the left and lower sides. Cracks appeared out of nowhere while parked with no contact from rocks or other debris. Over the course of the last few days has spread so much that it obstructs my vision while driving. This is a common problem with this model and is a safety hazard that needs to be recalled/fixed. Have an appointment with my dealer to see if this qualifies as a manufacturer defect. However the fact is this will most likely happen again if it’s the same glass being used.
While driving in light rain, with no visible strike, a crack appeared on the passenger side windshield; starting below the wiper and extending upwards in an arc towards the center. This is the 3rd time a crack of significance has appeared. Coincidentally, this crack appeared less than 2 weeks after having the windshield replaced by a Subaru dealership.
The windshield has developed a crack spontaneously and is spreading across the entire windshield. It started near the bottom of the window near the wipers and moving it's way up towards the top and spidered out towards the driver's side now. It continues to grow while I wait for an appointment to get it replaced.
Windshield spotaneous cracking: Going to work in the morning, absolutely nothing wrong 8:05-8:15am .parked car in parking lot. industrial warehouse. No people traffic, clear weather 30-45 degrees. Then as soon as i get in the car for my break. 11:15-11:30. I notice a very long crack that appears to originate UNDERNEATH the plastic window trim at the base of the windshield. Multiple pictures and videos have been taken. ABSOLUTELY no impacts of anything. I come to discover shortly after researching THERE is a lawsuit on the this outback windshield for random large cracks. NEED recall!
Cracked windshield, very very small pebble hit the driver corner near the pillar, I heard a little “tick” followed by seeing a massive crack form. The crack has now gone straight across to the middle and is making its way up to obstruct the “eyesight” camera
Received a couple of rock chips on the windshield while driving on the highway. Two days later, two large cracks appeared (one on the driver’s side, one on the passenger side). Both cracks are longer than six inches.
On March 2, 2023, I discovered a big crack in my windshield. The crack was not there in the morning. The crack was discovered at 2pm that afternoon. The crack started under the lower windshield trim and part way up windshield on the passenger side. The crack has a raise when you run your fingertip over it. The windshield was not struck by a rock. The crack randomly appeared while sitting in the parking lot at my work.
On Friday February 10, 2023 I came out of work and saw a 12 inch crack in my front windshield. When I left for work there wasn’t any crack. There is a very small pit in the windshield how or when it happened I do not know. February 11, 2023 the crack is now about 20 inches. I can’t believe how fast it is cracking.
Windshield developed excessive pitting at 16,500 miles with little highway driving. When driving into any light source there are thousands of tiny pits that light up across the entire windshield. Needed to get it replaced because of the distraction.
A crack appeared on the front windshield. The crack starts at the side of the window. The crack has tripled in size in one day.
For one, my windshield cracked out of nowhere, I didn’t know that windshields were having issues at the time, so I had to replace it on my own without contacting the dealership. Other issues include the front windows not going up all the way from time to time. The info system crashes and shuts down from time to time too, which leads to the Eyesight to shutdown temporarily too. And from time to time, the hatch buttons lag where I have to push on the buttons multiple times to get it to close
24000 miles, parked in covered garage for three days. on the fourth day I noticed a crack in the passenger side window. I had read YEARS AGO about a windshield problem. I did some internet research and read about many who had similar experiences and multiple experiences of the same problem. I was told it is out of warranty coverage. I will take it to a Subaru dealership to have it evaluated. If it is not covered, I will have to pay my deductible and I did nothing to cause the problem. I hope you can look into this problem
Multiple issues are with the electric system. The power windows will stop working up or down, the headunit/defroster/safety features will all lose power while driving before starting up again, the rear gate will sometimes not function. Some issues have occurred where some of the added safety features don't seem to always function as well. In the last month both passenger side windows have cracked. The front is cracked vertically and the rear is cracked horizontally, nearly the length of the window. Living in Alaska, cold weather is not foreign and all care is taken to ensure the integrity of the glass is preserved. I am not sure how/why these windows cracked, it was during a period of cold around December 14, 2022. I did a little Googling and this doesn't seem to be a totally unheard of problem. Losing your window definitely compromises safety, as well as the fact that if it is -40F and you lose a window.
The contact owns a 2020 Subaru Outback. The contact stated that after coming outside to start the vehicle, it was discovered that the front glass windshield had cracked. The crack was located on the passenger side of the front windshield and extended between 11 to 15 inches long. The cause of the crack was not determined. The contact indicated that no object had made contact with the windshield to cause the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 19,000.
Mileage: 19,000
Windshield defective issues. The windshield in my subaru outback cracked twice in a 6-month period. Both incidents occurred while driving between 40-55 mph in San Diego. The first time (July 2022) the windshield cracked for no apparent reason. I took the car to the Subaru dealership for a windshield replacement. The second time (12/25/22) it appears that a small pebble hit the windshield on the bottom side of the windshield. I am really not even sure a pebble hit the windshield, I just heard the windshield crack. Subaru has been notified of this second incident and I am waiting for an appointment to replace the cracked windshield. This is appears to be a defect on the windshield. I've never had this issue with any other car. Its troubling to know that the windshield on my car can cracked so easily and it worries me for the safety of my family. Please investigate all the other complains that have been submitted related to subaru's windshield cracking.
The windshield has a crack. There is mo evidence any object striking the windshield. The crack starts at the top just to left of the rear view mirror and then loos down to the left like a fishhook.
The front windshield/ window cracked while parked in driveway,
We have had our 2020 Subaru outback for almost 2 years. Within these years, we have had 3 cracked windshields. The first time a rock hit the windshield causing a crack that moved quickly. The second time, we got a small ding from a rock. It did not cause the windshield to crack. However, I barely touched it with my fingertip and the ding turned into a crack that went halfway across our windshield. This last time, there was no apparent cause. We never heard anything hit the windshield, it just cracked. We have less than 29,000 miles on this car. I have never had a vehicle needing a windshield replaced this often if ever!!!!
My windshield cracked for no apparent reason. I parked my car in my garage and left for a 6-week long vacation. When I returned, I noticed a small crack at the passenger side of the windshield which grew and has moved almost past midway horizontally. There are no impact sites or something else to suggest that something has happened to the windshield. I have contacted my insurance company which has suggested to change the windshield and is not covered. I came to the Subaru Dealership to fix a recall that is currently ongoing. I have been told by the dealer's customer rep that it's over $1000 to fix. As I tried to shop around, I have come across multiple complaints online that other people are experiencing similar issues with cars similar to mine. Hence, I am filing this complaint.
My outback has 22500 miles on it. The wind shield had not visible cracks or chips. I got to work on 10/06 and when I cam back to my car there was a large 2-3 foot crack starting in the black area around the glass. the crack there was large enough to fit a piece of paper into it. It appears to have just cracked and spread apart from strain or stress on the glass. The crack runs directly across my view as the driver. The windshield had always been loud and you could hear wind moving around it.
Windshield continously cracks. The windshield is prone to cracking. Within two years I've had two windshield cracks
The windshield was pitted by something no larger than a grain of sand. Needed to use a magnifying glass to see it. Within 24 hours of no driving a 6" long crack developed.
The windshield cracked without anything hitting the windshield. This is the fourth (4th) time this has happened to this vehicle. 3/6/21, 7/13/21, 12/6/21. And now, today, 9/12/22. The dealer has all the records. We need the support of your organization to help us deal with this. We can't fight this by ourselves. Please help us!
Blind spot warning does not turn on when there is actually a vehicle truly in the blind spot. Visibility in new cars via windows is blocked and insufficient, and the blind spot warning does not activate at the right time. Drivers could easily cut someone off with less than a foot in front of the car in the blind spot, because there is no proper warning. Warning only turns on when vehicle could hit another car when switching lanes. Not before when visibility is limited by vehicle structure and mirrors. Also, touch screens are a huge hazard in cars. Having to look at a touch screen in order to control air or other items is a huge safety hazard. Tactile controls and buttons are much safer. Not to mention touch screens and screens do not work during heatwaves. Car sitting in temperatures above 80 degrees, have major issues with computer screens working. Forward collision and driver monitor warning is also a hazard. Forward collision warning occasionally turns on when there is fog or smoke. Additional warnings distract drivers from actually looking at the road. Driver monitor warning turns on when looking through turns, causing drivers to be distracted and look at why the vehicle is beeping at them instead of paying attention to where they are driving.
We notice on the morning of 8/14 /2022 that our Subaru Outback 2020 had a substantial crack in the windshield .The car was parked overnight in the garage. We called the Burlington Subaru dealer( as per advice from Subaru Consumer line) The dealer spokesperson(Erika) took our information and said a pre - approval person from the dealer ship will call us to discuss if the windshield would be covered under the warranty;3 years / 36000 miles. As the local dealer does not repair windshields ,all repairs are performed by a second party. We are awaiting a resolution from Subaru. In the meantime we would like to add our names to the complaints of many Subaru owners. Thanks , The Kayser’s.
My windshield cracked and I got it repaired on 7/7/22. The tech said it was a caused by a stress fracture. I got the windshield replaced and within a month on 8/4/22, I got another crack. I thought it must be an installation problem but Safelite told me it was another stress fracture. That same week I got another crack in the windshield, said to be another stress fracture. It seemed strange to me that the windshield would crack that easily. I then found this article: https://www.torquenews.com/1084/new-ruling-subaru-cracked-windshield-lawsuit-now-adds-25m-cars I paid a $500 deductible to Progressive (my insurance) for each windshield replacement. The car is available for inspection upon request. This vehicle is putting mine and other people's safety at risk because it easily cracks and makes it hard to see out of the windshield. The vehicle has been inspected by insurance representatives at Safelite in Ann Arbor, MI and Toledo, OH.
Front windshield spontaneously cracked windshield on drivers side midway to 1/3 across windshield. Had not driven in 2 days. Sitting in driveway. Was excessively hot day (upper 90 degrees). No prior windshield (or car) issues. Awaiting repair guidance from dealer and insurance.
Very small rock hit the windshield and bounced off creating an immediate 3 inch crack that grew to reach almost the other side of the windshield in the next 2 days. This is the second windshield that needed to be replaced in under 2 years. It definitely cracks easier than any other vehicles we have owned and considering the lawsuit for the Subaru glass being prone to this, It is not cool they continue without correcting the issue, especially considering the expense. It does count against you for insurance claims.
The windshield started getting scratches & dings on it within 2 weeks of it being purchased for no apparent reason
Some kind of debris hit windshield on passenger side above bottom corner. The glass is not chipped, but the crack started developing quickly and reached to the middle of the windshield. The windshield itself was as new @12,000 miles only. It is noticeable that the crack is widened like the windshield glass is pulling itself apart. The crack is growing in length every day and following some random path. I visited the Mile One dealership and stated the issue that windshield should not crack like this without glass being noticeable chipped and it's a major safety and quality concern. They refused to even look at and said I am on my own because Subaru does provide any warranty for their windshields.
Windshield cracks Third time to replace
Windshield cracked without outside impact (e.g., rock, debris). Retailer refusing to cover under warranty. Car was parked when the windshield cracked.
Windshield was cracked and spread across the windshield. I wasn’t aware that it was broken until my sister got in the car and asked me if I knew it was broken! I don’t know when it happened or the mileage.
The car experienced an unexplained spontaneous front windshield crack. It started small on the drivers side near the wiper and has continued to spread. No foreign body or rock has hit the windshield. I took the vehicle to O'Steen's Subaru in Valdosta and they refused to repair it.
Apply getting in my car on June 20th I noticed a 8" Crack starting at the edge of the windshield on the right side about a quarter of the way up from the bottom pfrom the bottom. This is since propagated significantly. The interesting thing is that I just replaced the windshield 4 months ago for a failure that was remarkably similar no associated rock strikeThe crack starting at the right edge. This clearly suggests a design or manufacturing flaw. Note that the 1st one was repaired through the insurance company.. I'm taking it now to the dealer.
The front windshield cracked in the lower middle section of the windshield. There was no apparent strike from an object while driving (the driver saw no objects strike and the sound did not sound like a typical object strike). The crack appeared suddenly and stretched about 2+ inches to the bottom of the windshield up approximately 2-3 more inches and then horizontal toward the middle of the windshield about 2 inches. Shortly after (within 1 hour) the crack extended another 2ish inches horizontal toward the middle of the windshield. The crakc shows a star like pattern, with six arms radiating off from the center with the two vertical arms on top and bottom extending out as described above. There is also no obvious chip from outside the windshield that would indicate an object strike.
At the beginning of 05/2020 while I was driving, for no apparent reason, my front windshield cracked. The crack began from the upper edge of the windshield in the area of rear view mirror. As stated, the crack started with no apparent reason as there was no impact of any object to the windshield at the time the crack first occurred. No police report was made. I made an insurance claim to replace the windshield and to recalibrate the eyesight system. The windshield was replaced at Subaru dealership in Skokie IL, on 05/30/2020.
In mid 10/2021 while I was driving, my front windshield cracked with no apparent reason. The crack appeared on the passenger side, at the side edge of the windshield. As stated the crack appeared with no apparent reason as there was no imppact of any object to the windshield. No police report was made. I did not make a claim with my insurance. The winshield was replaced and eyesight syste,m was recalibrated at the Subaru dealership in Skokie IL.
My windshield spontaneously cracked while driving through town and I feel I have a defective windshield. It started very small that evening, and the next morning it was cracked out in two different placed from that, I was not even able to contact the dealership in that timeframe as it occurred during after hours and had already cracked out before open business hours the next morning. When I contacted the dealership that day, I received no help, stating that my warranty does not cover cracks over "dollar bill size" even with my added "windshield protection" coverage. I have since read that this has been a known issue for several years as the windshields on these models are reportedly thinner than normal so that the "eyesight" technology can function appropriately, and it concerns me that this spontaneous cracking is a safety issue yet no recalls have been made. I am afraid to drive my car further as the crack enlarges day by day. I am still waiting to get this sorted out to get it replaced.
Parked car windshield cracked for no reason
Cracked for no apparent reason on Monday 5/9/2022
A crack developed in the windshield spontaneously with no outside forces causing it. It is available for inspection. This is the SECOND time this has happened to this vehicle since we have purchased it. The windshield was replaced in May, 2021 because of the SAME ISSUE. These spontaneous cracks can put our safety and the safety of others at risk by obscuring vision. This just happened (May 1, 2022) and it has not been inspected yet by a dealer or insurance representative.
Windshield cracked for no apparent reason. Car was in garage. No impact to windshield observed.
My windshield cracked from top center, with no impacts, it happened on a cold snowy evening, just cracked……
Driving at speed on 75 S in Dallas and noticed a line crawling up my windshield from the seal near the hood. Didn't hear anything hit the glass. The line keeps getting bigger. It will become harder to see and I fear the glass with shatter at some point. Just had the car inspected a few weeks previous.
0N03/31/22 2 CRACKS WERE DISCOVERED IN THE WINDSHIELD ON THE DRIVERS DIES OF THE VEHICLE. ONE WAS 9 INCHES IN LENGTH THE OTHER WAS 12 INCHES IN LENGTH. BOTH STARTED AT THE BASE OF THE WINDSHIELD AND WENT UPWARD. ON 0330/22 THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN AT THE DEALER FOR AN IL CHANGE AND OVERALL INSPECTION. NO DEFECTS WERE FOUND. VEHICLE WAS HOUSED IN GARAGE OVERNIGHT. CRACKS WERE FOUND THE NEXT MORNING. NO EVIDENCE ANYTHING HAD IMPACTED THE WINDSHIELD OVERNIGHT. CONTACTED INSURANCE COMPANY FOR CLAIM FOR REPLACEMENT AND RECALIBRATION OF EYE VISION SAFETY FEATURE. THERE IS A CURRENT LAWSUIT PENDING AGAINST SUBARU FOR WINDSHIELD CRACKS THE COVERS THIS MAKE,MODEL AND YEAR
The front lights are extremely bright for other drivers on the road. It is so bad that I took it into the dealership/service department to get them checked out. I was told that there is no issue with the lights and other drivers are not use to the led lights being installed into newer vehicles. I can see three blocks in front of me as far up into the trees. I rarely drive at night, because I am constantly getting hi beamed by other drivers. I noticed on other public forums that it is an issue with the lights and other models as well.
Unknown - noticed crack in windshield randomly over the weekend. No known damage to vehicle.
The windshield cracked for no reason. I was driving around 50mph and didn’t notice anything hitting it.
Cracked windshield for no apparent reason. Rapidly spreading.
While driving on the highway, there must have been some road debris that hit the windshield and caused a long crack to form on the right lower quadrant of the windshield. Due to the development of the crack, the integrity of the windshield is lowered in the event another foreign object strikes it. Searching Outback windshield crack on Google or any other search engine will produce many reports in which other owners are experiencing the same issue. There is a subreddit titled subaruoutback in which there are over 50 reports from other Outback owners experiencing crack development for the first time in all their years of driving. I will be getting my windshield replaced by Safelite as to not place my passengers at risk. There have been previous lawsuits regarding Outback and Legacy models regarding defective windshield, which have since settled, although the year models are from 2015-2016, it would be interesting if they continue to persist for newer models such as 2020, 2021, 2022 since there are still many complaints and cracked windshields being reported. In the event that investigation proves that there are still windshield defective issues, hopefully Subaru can be encouraged to further research and provide safe windshield replacements for all parties involved.
I went to my car and saw a 6”+ crack on it. The car was parked in a parking lot.
The windshield developed a spontaneous crack on its top middle, around the the rear view mirror. The crack was noticed when I came entered the car as it was parked in my driveway. The crack is approximately 10 inches long. There is no obvious cause for the crack--- no chips or dings on the windshield; mild temperatures, not running the AC or heat. The crack appears to have occurred while the vehicle was stationary. The crack somewhat impedes visibility and reduces the integrity of the windshield, reducing overall safety of the vehicle. Vehicle had routine 18,000 mile maintenance/inspection at the Subaru dealer approximately 1 week prior with no abnormal findings reported. The Subaru dealer has refused to replace the windshield. I am the first owner of this vehicle, and have had it for approx. 16 months.
Heard a pop, Spontaneous crack to the windshield
Windshield was hit by two rocks leaving dime sized stars at the base of the windshield. They were low and not in sightline. Have had many cars with same damage on windshield with no issues and driven for years without any change in the glass. When I got home I parked car in garage. The next afternoon when I looked at the windshield, the small stars had cracked in 4 different directions, to a size larger than a basketball. Now I'm forced to replace a windshield that on any other car would be fine.
The windshield cracked with no reason and the hairline crack has been spreading in a matter of hours. The car was parked inside the garage and I drove it to work at 6:20am. The car was in the parking lot until 2:20pm. Upon arriving I noticed a crack (half the length of what it shows in the picture). By 3:30 the crack doubled in length.
Cracked windshield for the 2nd time.
02/08/2022, at 8:20am, I noticed a crack on the windshield on the passenger side. No explanation how it got there and there is NO chip. The crack comes from the edge of the windshield, out about 5 inches then curves up another 2-3 inches and then curves again towards the driver side another 3-4 inches. Within 12 hours it has grown. This crack will eventually impact my ability to fully see ahead while driving ( light glare and disruptive to the driver). Bob Rhorman Subaru (my local Subaru dealership) will be inspecting the windshield on 02/14/2022. There was no warning signs to this happening. I know Subaru of America has a history of defective windshields and my 2020 Subaru Outback does follow under the windshield lawsuit against Subaru of America.
Within 2 months of purchase 2020 Outback the car's Infotainment center has continually malfunctioned including times when the car's backup camera is displayed while the car is in drive and moving forward. Eye-sight constantly disabled as well is infotainment center constantly blacking out and then resetting itself while car is in motion. Constant beepind telling driver to look at road - all especially in inclement weather. Car is unsafe. I have multiple videos showing this but they are too big to upload here.
The windshield on my 2020 Subaru Outback spontaneously cracked shortly after I started the car on a hot summer day (06/28/2021). Roughly a minute after starting the vehicle and turning on the air conditioning, I drove a distance of about 100 ft and heard a really loud snap, but initially didn't see the cause of the sound. About 2 seconds later, a crack quickly spread horizontally from the driver's side edge at mid height of the windshield until reaching the center of the windshield. After continuing to drive the vehicle, the crack began to spread vertically for about 6 inches, and then spread further horizontally to the right by another 6 inches, forming an S-shape. No damage or chips were known to have been previously inflicted on the windshield and the glass was visibly intact prior the cracking event. Because the crack was positioned almost exactly at eye level, visibility was noticeably distorted. If the crack and associated snapping sound had occurred while the car was being driven in actual traffic on a road or freeway, the startling nature of the event and loud volume of the snapping sound would likely put someone driving the vehicle at risk of reacting in a hazardous fashion and result in a crash. Furthermore, since the Subaru Outback's forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, and lane keeping assistance all operate through a camera-based system that requires a clear view through the windshield, the crack posed a risk of malfunction of these systems. The windshield was inspected by a professional automotive glass installation shop and was determined to have been damaged beyond repair, requiring total replacement.
The windshield on my 2020 Subaru Outback spontaneously cracked while I was driving the vehicle on a cold morning (01/20/2021). This crack is the second such spontaneous crack that has occurred with this same vehicle. The first crack occurred in the original windshield in June 2021, after which the original windshield was replaced with an OEM windshield. This second cracking event occurred with the OEM replacement windshield. About 30 minutes into driving the vehicle at freeway speeds (65 mph), a crack with a total length of about 10 inches (5 inches vertical, 5 inches horizontal) formed spontaneously mid-length on the windshield beginning from the bottom edge of the glass. The formation of the crack occurred quickly and was associated with a loud snapping sound. The path of the crack traveled through the location of a small (2mm x 2mm) chip in the glass located approximately 2 inches from the bottom edge of the glass. This chip in the glass occurred at least 2 months prior to the cracking event and was the result of an impact from a small rock (about 1cm x 1cm). No additional damage or impact force had occurred on the chipped location between the creation of the chip and the cracking event. If the crack had been larger and the associated snapping sound louder, the startling nature of the event and loud volume of the snapping sound would likely put someone driving the vehicle at risk of reacting in a hazardous fashion and result in a crash. Furthermore, since the Subaru Outback's forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, and lane keeping assistance all operate through a camera-based system that requires a clear view through the windshield, the crack posed a risk of impacting these systems.
Purchased my outback in January of 2020, Sometime in that same month I noticed a small crack in the windshield, down at the bottom on the passenger side. No idea how it cracked. by the next day the crack had grown to over 8 inches. I called subaru dealership and they stated that wasnt covered under warrantee and that they didnt deal with insurance companies directly so I would have to get it fixed by them, pay up front and get my insurance company to reimburse me directly. Called my insurance company and they said to just go to safelight. I explained it was a brand new car and I wanted original factory glass and they said ok. work was done, safety eyesight recalibrated and car was brand new again. Fast forward to today (jan 5 2022), about exactly 2 years from the first time. Driving down the road, heard a pop, didnt see a rock or debris hit me, look at the windshield and see a small crack in the uper driverside windshield. Knowing how fast the last crack grew I immediately headed to safelight. By the time I arrived there, the small crack (about 1/4 inch) had grown to over 12".
The windshield cracked with no apparent impact from an object. While driving, a loud pop sound was heard and a 10" long curving crack appeared on the left side of the windshield.
1.) Headlights. They are extremely bright to oncoming traffic and oncoming traffic is always flashing or beaming you with their high beams as they think your brights are on when they are not. This is dangerous. Also LED lights do not put off enough heat and the headlamp body itself freezes over in cold rain or snowy conditions severely reducing your ability to see during low light situations. Wipers. The windshield wipers do not last. They should be silicone and they are rubber which is terrible for longevity.
Windshield developed spontaneous crack on bottom edge of driver side extending 12-18” in line of sight of driver. There was no impact or stone hitting the windshield. Drove car for 30 minutes and parked car to go shopping. 5 minutes later the crack developed while still parked. Vehicle to be inspected by local dealer on December 29, 2021.
windshield cracks for no reason
Windshield seems to have cracked for no good reason
Vehicle was started remotely (which turned on windshield deicer) and when I entered the vehicle as I prepared to drive there was a popping sound. I noticed that the windshield had cracked in the center bottom of the windshield where the deicer is locate. The crack ran about 4 inches long. Notified Subaru and was told to have dealer inspect vehicle. Waiting for reply from Subaru
The front windshield cracked spontaneously overnight while parked in my garage. There had been no previous chips or cracks. The crack started on both sides near the wiper area and radiated upward toward the eyesight camera.
Was driving SB on route 41 south of Oskosh, Wi at a certain point I noticed a crack forming on the windshield spreading from the lower right side over to the lower left side and continue upward. No rock hit or impact was heard.
Second spontaneous windshield crack
Random crack started on windshield from bottom middle lower area and quickly spread to drivers side. No rock chip or cause
windshield developed enlarging cracks; was worried the windshield would implode; independent service center examined and replaced; drove down ~1/4 mile winding dirt road to church meeting site in wooded area; after arrival I lowered driver front side window slightly to allow fresh air in car on warm day; did not notice any crack/breakage in windshield; upon starting the car when ready to return (~5 hours later) immediately noticed 2 cracks in windshield on driver side both about 6-8 inches above bottom; another smaller crack on far left side looked like impact; got out and could find nothing on car or ground around that would account for the breakage; both non-impact cracks grew an inch or two wider as I drove home
Drove vehicle over a small bump in the road while driving less than 5 mph and a crack appeared on right center edge of windshield of approximately 3 inches ... Within 15 minutes the crack extended to across almost half the windshield. Vehicle has 11500 miles. When we notified Subaru, they stated it would not be covered under warranty.
We purchased a 2020 Subaru Outback on August 20, 2021. On September 20, 2021, the car was driven to work, there was no crack in the windshield, the car sat in a parking lot for approximately 8 hours; upon getting in the car after work a crack was noted on the lower portion of the windshield and was going across the middle of the windshield (approximately 3 inches up from the bottom and approximately 14 inches horizontal). There was no apparent reason for this crack.
Got into the car on Thursday, September 16th and there was a spiderwebbing crack in the lower center of the windshield. The car was parked the previous night with no crack and no incident of anything striking the windshield the previous day
Windshield cracked for no apparent reason. Crack initiated at the top of the windshield and formed a curve to turn horizontal. Total length of crack approx. 18 inches.
I heard a pebble tap the windshield and I immediately saw a crack from the passenger side to the middle of the windshield. I just had the windshield replaced on 6 Aug 2021. It costs $600 just to calibrate the cameras. Then the cost of replacing the windshield. This isn't right. I've had plenty of vehicles and this is the worst windshield I have seen. The windshield didn't last 1600 miles. And this is the first time I have been back on the interstate since getting the windshield replaced in August. I am not happy and I think this is a safety hazard.
Windshield crack
Crack windshield The windshield just crack during driving on the freeway.
The car has had 3 windshields already replaced and the current windshield is broken and will need to be replaced. The car only had 9,800 miles on it. Afraid the visibility is greatly impacted. Several dealers have indicated that there are problems with the strength of the windshield on this auto/model. And the manufacturer has also implied that there may be issues. I am getting the dealership to inspect the windshield tomorrow (9/11/2021). I have not received any prior notification of windshield issues prior to current breakage. I first discovered the defective nature of the windshield on 9/9/2021. I have contacted independent repair shops to verify that this is not a sole incident and has occurred many times same makes and model.
Before driving I noticed a thin crack in the driver side lower part of windshield without hitting anything. - This is presumed to occur spontaneously. Consumer stated it is not a crack but a hard to remove substance and would like to remove the report.*JB
Windshield developed crack from lower edge 10 inches long with no indication of any damage.
Rearview mirror broke off of the windshield during normal use. At no time did I pull on the rearview mirror with excessive force.
Windshield has a Crack line from the center bottom edge of the Windshield going up towards the center to the right then left as it expands. It was parked and appeared the next morning with no sign of impact.
On 04/09/2020 the windshield spontaneously cracked across the lower right side while sitting in our garage. There was a very small etch that could have been caused by a small rock however we were never aware of a rock hitting the windshield. The first indication was the large crack after sitting in the garage over night. This windshield was replaced with new. On 07/26/2021 the windshield spontaneously cracked again, while driving, starting at the lower center and then immediately spreading across to the left side. There was no indication of a rock hitting the windshield though there is a small etch at the crack start point. I have had several windshields hit by rock which always only left at most a small crack at the hit point and never broke across the whole windshield like these two incidents. Both incidents resulted in distorted vision making driving dangerous.
Was driving on freeway and heard a pop and windshield developed a hairline crack from bottom and extended up as we continue driving. Not even a chip but immediately a crack. Windshield is too brittle.
A Small rock hit my windshield and the windshield instantly cracked. Subaru said the windshield was not covered under standard warranty and recommended a local glass company. The windshield was replaced with another Subaru windshield that cracked 3 days later while the car was parked inside my closed garage. The second windshield never got hit by anything - it just cracked for no reason. The glass company said it was a stress fracture. The initial fracture was right across my line of sight, making it difficult to see. The fracture continued to spread and new cracks were developing. I now have a third windshield on a car that is one year old.
My vehicle is about 15 months old. It has lots of tiny chips in the windshield. No cracks yet, but I've read about many other Subaru Outback owners with this problem.
While driving along the freeway, I heard a "pop" and noticed a crack along the windshield. It was along the passenger side, about 10"-12" above the dashboard, and went all the way to the passenger side edge of the windshield. There was a vehicle ahead of me, maybe 1/4 mile ahead. As I kept driving, it grew a little more towards the middle of the windshield. This is the third time this has happened to this vehicle, as the previous owner had to get the windshield replaced twice in the past 6 months.
Windshield cracked after a slight impact to the glass from something off the road. Car was purchased new in April 2020, first windshield was replaced in February 2021 and second windshield was replaced in July 2021. Three windshields in 15 months
Windhshield spontaneously broke in linear pattern, approximately 2ft in length, across passenger side, without spidering/inpact. Car was parked in open sun parking lot for apprimately 5 hours. Taken to Safelite autoglass for repair when they stated that they see 2-3 newer subaru’s a day for similar issues.
Driving north on the interstate with no other vehicles on the road. Windshield spontaneously cracked from passenger side defrost to middle of windshield. Took the car into the dealer, and they claimed a rock hit it because they could run their fingernail into the crack. I strongly disagree with Subaru’s maintenance division as I was there when it happened and there is no chip or star shaped damage from an impact of any object. The crack quickly spread across the entire length of the windshield.
Purchased new and front windshield spontaneously cracked in multiple directions overnight. No impact evidence at the center of the crack. Noticed online that many Outback owners are reporting this same problem. Not sure if it’s a defective windshield or body flex which caused windshield to flex and crack. I expect the windshield to be replaced by Subaru at no charge.
Today, 7/11/2021 my 3rd OEM Subaru windshield cracked spontaneously, while driving. All windshields were replaced at Beardmore Subaru, in Belleville, NE using Subaru replacement windshields. In all instances the windshield has cracked spontaneously without impact on either the passenger side or at the bottom of the windshield, near the middle. The cracks continue to propagate quickly while driving or when parked overnight, until the crack terminates on the side opposite the crack. This spontaneous cracking, is a safety hazard in that it not only compromises the integrity of the glass, but also can affect the Subaru EyeSight safety vision system, by impairing camera view thru the windshield if a crack propagates through the cameras field of view. This new instance means that in less than 10,000 miles I have had 4 windshields in this car. I have never had this occur on any vehicle I have owned previously, nor to our 2017 Outback. This appears to be a defect in Subaru OEM glass or the specifications Subaru has engineered for the 2020 and up Outback global platform.
2020 Subaru Outback purchased in January 2020 has had to have windshield replaced twice. I have owned dozens of vehicles and never had to replace a windshield more than once even on vehicles I owned for 10 - 15 years. The windshields clearly are defective as evidenced by the many complaints regarding windshields for multiple Subaru models over several years.
Windshield cracked without any incident. The crack is approximately 12 inches long and located on the drivers side of the vehicle. With no incident causing this crack, I am concerned that this crack may cause severe injuries and is an obvious safety concern.
On 4/01/2021 the windshield cracked while the car was parked inside my garage for some unknown reason. I scheduled and paid for a new windshield and eyesight calibration, which was installed by dealer (Briggs Subaru Topeka, Ks). Windshield cracked again two months later on 6/23/2021 for an unknown reason. The crack occurred while I was parked at work. There is no sign of a rock chip or other object cracking the windshield. I scheduled my car for an inspection on 7/01/2021 at the same dealership.
I was driving down the interstate with no cars around and my outback windshield cracked. I was far enough away from cars and I didn’t see anything hit the window. I heard a loud pop. A soft but quick pop, not like the sound of a rock hitting but different. Then I drove on down the road and saw a large crack forming from the bottom of the passenger side of the window. And there’s no dimple anywhere in the crack.
The front windshield cracked unexpectedly today while driving. There were no visible rock chips where the crack emanated from but I have noticed other chips in the glass. I only have 15,000 miles on this vehicle. There was a loud pop and a large crack appeared on my windshield.
Went to drive vehicle and found windshield cracked down the middle from top to bottom. No chips and no prior damage of any kind to windshield. Windshield spontaneously cracked for no reason whatsoever.
The front windshield of our 2020 Subaru Outback spontaneously cracked, impairing the ability to see outside. I drove the car yesterday with my wife in the passenger side (June 11, 2021), returning about 1500, and parked the car. We went out today, at about 1400 to go on an errand, not having driven the car since the previous day, and found a crack in the windshield. Compared to other cracks we've experienced in other cars, there is no impact area (and we didn't hear one when driving the previous day). See picture attached. There are no other drivers of this car in our home.
Windshield cracked while sitting in driveway, nothing hit the windshield.
I purchased a 2020 Subaru Outback XT in March 2020 (approximately 14 months of driving at the time of this submission). The vehicle currently has almost 15k miles on it. I recently had my fourth (4th!) windshield installed. The first replacement windshield was installed after a pebble the size of a grain of rice (I saw kicked up by a truck in front of me) hit the windshield and caused a large lateral crack the propagated. The vehicle had approximately 1500 miles at the point. The first replacement (OEM) cracked after hitting another pebble on the highway. I did not see the size this time because it was on the part of the windshield obstructed by the side posts on the outside of the windshield. The crack propagated horizontally across the entire windshield. This occurred at approximately 8K miles. The second replacement (aftermarket made to OEM specs) cracked after hitting a bug! A picture taken immediately after bug impact is attached below. The crack propagated in a Y-formation and needed replacement. Although cicadas have recently begun coming out, this was not an overly large bug. It was approximately the size of a lightning bug, as I saw it hit. I also drive a VW Golf with 50k miles (over 5 years) and have never had a windshield issue.
Windshield cracked while on the freeway. I don't think anything hit it, we were driving at 75 MPH when we heard a crack, and instantly a crack went from the bottom left side of the windshield in an upward direction almost all the way across the center of the glass. The glass at the bottom left side where the crack started is broken deeply into the glass and may be all the way through. We are concerned that if a large rock hit the windshield it would break apart and fall into the car. I brought the car to the Subaru dealer we purchased the car from. The service manager looked at it and instantly said, rock hit, not covered and wouldn't talk to us after that. The car has less than 10,000 miles.
On one of my first times driving my new car to work on my morning commute I was traveling at a normal rate of speed and with a lot of distance from the car in front of me I heard a crack and saw the windshield beginning to show signs of a straight crack. That was December 15, 2020. Now on May 19, 2021 I have a crack from the far right side of the windshield and runs to the initial location, about 70% across my windshield.
Large, long windshield crack. No rocks or debris, nothing hit the windshield. I went out to my car one morning and there is a long crack in my windshield starting at the middle edge.
I AM ON MY 4TH WINDSHIELD. MY WINDSHIELDS KEEP CRACKING FROM CHIPS,, WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAYS.

WINDSHIELD SPONTANEOUSLY CRACKED OVERNIGHT WHILE NOT IN USE WITHIN 6 WEEKS OF PURCHASING NEW 2020 OUTBACK. CRACK HAS PROGRESSED TO SPAN ENTIRE WINDSHIELD.
Mileage: 1,000
WINDSHIELD FORMED A LARGE CRACK AT 2495 MILES (APPROX. 2/15/20) FROM LEFT BOTTOM CORNER TO CENTER ABOVE DRIVER POSITION. ONLY INDICATED CAUSE A 1/8 INCH SHALLOW SCRATCH. WINDSHIELD AGAIN CRACKED, ALMOST IDENTICAL SIZE AND POSITION AT 8934 MILES (APPROX.4/20/21), ONLY INDICATED DAMAGE A SMALL PIT AT LEFT BOTTOM. CRACKS ONLY APPEARED AFTER SITTING OVERNIGHT IN GARAGE---NOTHING NOTICED PRIOR. EMAIL WITH GM AT DEALER PRODUCED NO RESPONSE. TOTAL COST OF REPLACEMENTS $979.10. NO DAMAGE TO WINDSHIELDS OF 2 OTHER VEHICLES DRIVEN ON THE SAME ROUTES. IN MY OPINION, BOTH WINDSHIELD MARKS WERE EXTREMELY MINOR AND SHOULD NOT HAVE PRODUCED WINDSHIELD FAILURE.
VEHICLE WAS PARKED WHEN WINDSHIELD CRACKED. THERE WAS NO PREVIOUS DAMAGE TO THE WINDSHIELD BEFORE CRACKING. CRACK BEGAIN ON THE DRIVERS SIDE LOWER PORTION WHERE THE WINDSHIELD WAS PAINTED. ONGOING ISSUE WITH 2020 SUBARU OUTBACK WINDSHIELDS.
Mileage: 14,000
MY WINDSHIELD DEVELOPED A MASSIVE CRACK (ABOUT 6 IN VERTICAL AND 8 IN ACROSS) SPONTANEOUSLY. MY FIANCEE AND I WERE OUT RUNNING ERRANDS AND STOPPED INTO A SHOP. DURING THE DRIVE TO THE SHOP, WE DID NOT HEAR OR SEE ANY ROAD DEBRIS HIT THE WINDSHIELD. WHEN WE PARKED, THE WINDSHIELD WAS INTACT AND COMPLETELY NORMAL. ONCE WE COMPLETED OUR SHOPPING (ABOUT 30 MINUTES FROM THE TIME THAT WE PARKED), WE RETURNED AND FOUND OUR VEHICLE HAD THIS LONG, RIDICULOUS CRACK. TO REITERATE. MY CAR WAS AT A COMPLETE STOP AND PARKED. I WAS IN A PARKING LOT AND WAS AT LEAST 200 YARDS AWAY FROM THE NEAREST ROAD. NOW, I HAVE TO GET MY WINDSHIELD COMPLETELY REPLACED IN ORDER TO SEE CLEARLY. INCREDIBLY EXPENSIVE. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THE VEHICLE, AND THIS OUTBACK HAS NEVER BEEN INVOLVED IN ANY ACCIDENTS OR WRECKS. MY FIANCEE AND I ARE THE ONLY DRIVERS OF THE VEHICLE.
Mileage: 15,600
WHEN DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD WINDSHIELD JUST STARTED CRACKING ON PASSENGER SIDE FROM BELOW THE WINDSHIELD WIPER BELOW THE WINDOW TRIM. WITHIN MINUTES IT WENT FROM A 3-4 INCH CRACK TO ENCOMPASSING THE MAJORITY OF THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE WINDOW. THIS IS THE SECOND INCIDENT WITH THIS WINDSHIELD. IN DECEMBER A SMALL PEBBLE BARELY TAPPED THIS DRIVER'S SIDE AND CAUSED AN INSTANT GOUGE.

THE WINDSHIELD ON MY OUTBACK CRACKED WITH NO WARNING OR IMPACT. I HAD PULLED OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY AND WAS JUST BEGINNING TO MOVE FORWARD ON MY STREET WHEN I HEARD A SOUND IN THE CABIN. I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT IT WAS BUT LOOKED AROUND AS I REACHED A NEARBY STOP SIGN. THERE IS A LARGE Y-SHAPED CRACK FROM THE TOP OF MY WINDSHIELD, PARTIALLY HIDDEN BY THE REAR VIEW MIRROR.

ON 9/27/2021 I BOUGHT A NEW 2020 SUBURU OUTBACK FROM CAMELBACK SUBURU IN PHOENIX AZ. WE HAVE NOW HAD TWO WINDSHIELDS CRACK STARTING FROM THE LEFT A PILLAR AND CONTINUE ACROSS THE REST OF THE WINDSHIELD IN SHORT ORDER. BOTH WINDSHIELDS CRACKED FROM THE SAME SPOT WITHOUT ANY CAUSE, IE ROCKS ETC. THE DEALERSHIP IS CLAIMING IT IS FROM ROCKS. ABSOLUTELY NOT. I BELIEVE THEY KNOW EXACTLY WHAT IS GOING ON AND ARE DEFRAUDING ME OUT OF A LEGITIMATE MANUFACTURERS WARRANTY CLAIM. I HAVE TALKED WITH MY INSURANCE AGENT AND THIS WILL BE AN ISSUE WITH THEM WITH TWO CLAIMS IIN SUCH A SHORT TIME.

WHILE DRIVING NORTH ON A STRAIGHT STRETCH OF I-15 IN MONTANA ON A SUNDAY AFTERNOON AROUND 6:30PM THE FRONT WINDSHIELD OF MY 2020 SUBARU OUTBACK RANDOMLY CRACKED FROM LOW ON THE PASSENGER SIDE TO THE MIDDLE OF THE WINDSHIELD BELOW THE REAR VIEW MIRROR. THERE WERE NO OTHER CARS ON THE ROAD AND THERE WAS NO NOTICEABLE IMPACT TO THE WINDSHIELD. ROAD CONDITIONS SEEMED SMOOTH AT THE TIME OF THE CRACK AND THE WEATHER WAS CLEAR AROUND MID 40 DEGREES F. THE CAR HAD BEEN RUNNING FOR SEVERAL HOURS SO THE INSIDE TEMPERATURE SHOULD HAVE BEEN STABLE WITH NO WILD TEMPERATURE SWINGS. INSPECTION OF THE WINDSHIELD AFTER THE EVENT SHOWS NO SIGNS OF CHIPS OR IMPACTS NEAR THE CRACK. THE CAR HAS APPROXIMATELY 6,000 MILES ON IT WITH NO OTHER MECHANICAL ISSUES NOTED.
Mileage: 6,000
THE WINDSHIELD ON OUR 2020 SUBARU OUTBACK WAS NOT CRACKED WHEN I PARKED IT IN THE GARAGE ONE NIGHT. THE NEXT AFTERNOON WHEN WE GOT IN TO DRIVE TO THE GROCERY STORE, THE WINDSHIELD HAD AN UNEXPECTED CRACK APPROXIMATELY 14 INCHES LONG, ON THE PASSENGER SIDE, ABOUT 1/3 OF THE WAY DOWN FROM THE TOP, GOING HORIZONTALLY ACROSS THE WINDSHIELD. THIS CRACK CAME SEEMINGLY OUT OF NOWHERE. THE VEHICLE SEEMS TO HAVE BEEN STATIONARY WHEN THIS OCCURRED. WE HAVE HAD THE CAR FOR ABOUT SIX MONTHS. THIS CRACK APPEARED ON SUNDAY AND IS HUGE, WE WILL NEED THE WINDSHIELD REPLACED.
Mileage: 8,691
BOUGHT THE VEHICLE BRAND NEW AND WOKE UP THE NEXT DAY TO IT NOT STARTING. THE CAR WAS SOLD TO US WITH A BAD BATTERY AND MISSING PARTS ACCORDING TO THE DEALERSHIP. ALMOST EXACTLY A YEAR LATER OUR TRANSMISSION BLEW FOR NO APPARENT REASON WHILE GETTING OFF THE HIGHWAY AND COMPLETELY STOPPED RUNNING. NOW THE VEHICLE HAS A CRACKED WINDSHIELD WHEN NO ROCKS OR ANYTHING HAS HIT IT.

WINDSHIELD CRACKED FROM THE LOWER CENTER WHILE PARKING IN THE GARAGE. NO KNOWN IMPACT HAPPENED.
WINDSHIELD HAS CHIPPED 3 TIMES IN THE LAST MONTH AS OF 4/7/21 ON OUR 2020 OUTBACK, FROM EXTREMELY LIGHT AND TINY ROAD DEBRIS/ROCK STRIKES. NOW HAS A 4TH, LARGER CHIP NEAR THE BASE OF THE WINDSHIELD WITH A 18" CRACK THAT GREW OVER THE COURSE OF A FEW HOURS. ALL OCCURRED WHILE IN MOTION ON HIGHWAYS. ALL DURING MILD WEATHER. ALL WERE FROM ROCKS ALMOST TOO SMALL TO SEE. THE SAME THING HAPPENED WITH OUR 2018 SUBARU. SUBARU NOW OFFERS WINDSHIELD COVERAGE AT ADDITIONAL CHARGE. SALESMAN NOTED THAT IT WAS "BECAUSE THEY USE THINNER GLASS DUE TO THE EYESIGHT SYSTEM". THIS WOULD SUGGEST SUBARU KNOWS THERE IS A PROBLEM.
Mileage: 16,000
WINDSHIELD HAS CRACKED TWICE WITHIN 15 MONTHS. BOTH CRACKS STARTED AS SMALL CHIPS AND QUICKLY (WITHIN HOURS) TURNED INTO LARGE CRACKS SPANNING THE MAJORITY OF THE WINDSHIELD. BOTH CHIPS OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY.

THE FRONT WINDOW CRACKED FOR NO APPARENT REASON. THE CRACK STARTED ABOUT A THIRD OF THE WAY UP THE WINDOW, IN A J SHAPE FASHION. VERY NARROW CRACK. THE CAR WAS IN MY GARAGE WHEN I WENT OUT TO START IT I SAW THE CRACK. HAD NOT BEEN THERE BEFORE BUT THE EYE SIGHT SYSTEM WAS MALFUNCTIONING THE DAY BEFORE WHEN DRIVING THE CAR.

MY 2020 SUBARU TOURING OUTBACK'S WINDSHIELD CRACKED AS IT WAS PARKED AT HOME IN MY DRIVEWAY. THIS OCCURRED ON MARCH 6TH 2021. THE CRACK IN GOES ABOUT HALF WAY ACROSS THE WINDSHIELD IN THE LINE OF SIGHT AS I DRIVE IT. IT HAD NOT BEEN ON THE ROAD AT ALL THAT DAY. I DROVE IT THE DAY BEFORE AND THERE WAS NO CRACK OR CHIP PRESENT. I BELIEVE THIS TO BE THE RESULT OF A DEFECTIVE WINDSHIELD AND A HAZARD WHILE I AM DRIVING AS IT IMPAIRED MY LINE OF SIGHT. THE REPAIR WAS OVER $1000, BUT MY DEDUCTIBLE WAS $50 FROM GEICO.
Mileage: 6,350
2 OEM WINDSHIELDS IN A ROW - THE ONE THAT CAME WITH THE CAR AND A REPLACEMENT, HAVE BOTH HAD CRACKS OF OVER 24 INCHES WITH MULTIPLE FRACTURE LINES ALL STEMMING FROM ONE TINY ROCK HITTING THE WINDSHIELD AND LEAVING A PIT. THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION ON THE INTERSTATE BOTH TIMES THE SMALL ROCKS STRUCK THE WINDSHIELD AND CREATED THE PITS THAT LATER TURNED INTO THE LARGE CRACKS.
Mileage: 8,000
A FEW MINUTES INTO A DRIVE THROUGH OUR NEIGHBORHOOD (AFTER 9PM) WE NOTICED A SMALL CRACK APPEAR IN THE MIDDLE BOTTOM OF THE WINDSHIELD. RIGHT BEFORE OUR EYES WE WATCHED IT GROW FROM A COUPLE OF INCHES TO ABOUT 10 INCHES IN LENGTH. IT ONLY TOOK A MINUTE OR TWO FOR THIS TO HAPPEN. WE NEVER DROVE OVER 25 MPH. THERE WERE NO OTHER CARS ON THE STREETS. THERE WAS NORTHING AROUND THAT COULD HAVE HIT OUR WINDSHIELD. IT HAPPENED ALL BY ITSELF. 32 YEARS OF DRIVING MANY VEHICLES AND I NEVER HAD THIS HAPPEN BEFORE. THE PICTURE WAS TAKEN AT NIGHT RIGHT AFTER AS WE WENT STRAIGHT HOME. HARD TO SEE THE ENTIRE LENGTH BECAUSE OF THE NIGHT PICTURE. NOT SURE HOW MUCH BIGGER THE CRACK COULD HAVE GOTTEN. LUCKILY WE WERE CLOSE TO HOME AND NOT DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT A HIGHER SPEED.
Mileage: 3,600
WINDSHIELD CRACKED FROM THE BOTTOM OF WINDSHIELD. I HAD COMPLAINED TO THE THE DEALER. THEY WON'T HELP ME AND SAID IT IS ROCK CHIP. IT WAS IN THE PARKING MODE WHEN IT START TO CRACK ITSELF.
VEHICLE PARKED AT CHARLOTTE DOUGLAS AIRPORT FROM 2/27/21-3/5/21 DEVELOPED WINDSHIELD CRACK IN STATIONARY CONDITION WITH NO OBSERVABLE EXTERNAL DAMAGE TO WINDSHIELD OR CAR. LUCKILY THE CRACK IS MINOR AND DID NOT IMPAIR DRIVING BUT A FULL REPLACEMENT WAS NECESSARY. SEEMS LIKE THIS SHOULDN'T HAPPEN TO AN ALMOST NEW PARKED CAR WITH NO NOTICEABLE DAMAGE TO WINDSHIELD.
Mileage: 13,260
WHILE DRIVING MY SUBARU OUTBACK TODAY ON A CLEAN, CLEAR INTERSTATE HIGHWAY WITH VERY FEW OTHER VEHICLES ON THE ROAD THE FRONT WINDSHIELD CRACKED, MAKING A VERY LOUD NOISE. THE CRACK ORIGINATED AT THE BASE OF THE WINDSHIELD TO THE RIGHT OF CENTER AND TRAVELLED UP AND TO THE LEFT.
Mileage: 5,300
MY 2020 SUBARU OUTBACK HAS HAD A 2ND INCIDENT WITH A WINDSHIELD CRACK THAT DRAMATICALLY SPREAD MORE THAN A FOOT LONG ACROSS THE WINDSHIELD, STARTING FROM A PIN-NEEDLE-SIZED HOLE NEAR THE BOTTOM LEFT CORNER, I.E., ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD. I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AROUND SPEED LIMIT WHEN A PEBBLE HIT IT, CAUSING THE TINY HOLE, WHICH ONLY ERUPTED INTO A HUGE CRACK AFTER I PARKED IT. I'VE ONLY HAD THE CAR FOR EXACTLY 1 YEAR WHEN IT HAPPENED AND IT'S ONLY BEEN DRIVEN FOR LESS THAN 6,000 MILES. THE WINDSHIELD SEEMS THIN AND NOT DURABLE.
Mileage: 5,700
THE WINDSHIELD CRACKED. THE CAR WAS PARKED IN THE GARAGE AT MY RESIDENCE. I GOT SOMETHING OUT OF MY GLOVE BOX AND IT WAS FINE. I WENT BACK AN HOUR LATER TO PUT THE ITEM BACK AND NOTICED THE WINDSHIELD HAD A LARGE CRACK IN IT.
Mileage: 5,800
WINDSHIELD CRACKED FOR NO APPARENT OR OBVIOUS REASON. WAS NOT STRUCK BY ANY OBJECT. THE VEHICLE WAS MOVING.
Mileage: 22,000
LAST SUNDAY MORNING I DISCOVERED A CRACKED WINDSHIELD AS I GOT INTO THE CAR. CRACK APPEARED FOR NO APPARENT REASON AND WAS NOT THERE THE DAY BEFORE WHEN CAR WAS LAST DRIVEN. CAR WAS PARKED IN THE GARAGE OVERNIGHT.
Mileage: 7,232
WINDSHIELD DEVELOPED A PROGRESSIVE CRACK FROM EDGE ON PASSENGER SIDE FOR NO APPARENT REASON. THE CRACK WAS NOT THERE ON FRIDAY, 2/26/2021 AT THE END OF THE DAY. HOWEVER, WHEN I WENT TO DRIVE IT ON SATURDAY MORNING, 2/27/2021 THERE WAS A 6-8 INCH CRACK. THE CRACK HAS CONTINUED TO SPREAD ACROSS THE WINDSHIELD. I DID NOT HIT ANYTHING NOR DID ANYTHING HIT THE WINDSHIELD.
Mileage: 7,216
WINDSHIELD CRACKED DOWN THE MIDDLE WHILE DRIVING ON A CLEAR DAY AND NOTHING SEEMED TO HAVE HIT THE WINDOW

WITHIN 12 HOURS OF HAVING THE CAR, THE WINDSHIELD CRACKED FOR SEEMINGLY NO REASON. NO ROCK HIT THE WINDSHIELD NOR WAS I USING AIR CONDITIONING OR THE HEATER. OUTSIDE TEMP WAS ABOUT 65F. I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT 65 MPH.
Mileage: 300
DROVE CAR ON WEDNESDAY (2/17/21) AND PARKED IN MY GARAGE. WENT TO DRIVE CAR ON FRIDAY AND SAW I HAD AN L SHAPED CRACK IN THE WINDSHIELD FROM PASSENGER PILLAR ACROSS AND DOWN THE WINDSHIELD. NO DING IS FELT ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD.
Mileage: 13,900
WINDSHIELD STARTED CRACKING FROM BELOW THE WIPE TRIM AND KEEPS CRACKING. WAS DRIVING UP DONNER SUMMIT HWY 80. TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH. TEMPERATURE IN 20'S ELEVATION GAIN TO NEAR 6500 FEET. SOME SLEET SNOW WIPERS IN USE. NOTICED CRACK AFTER STORM CLEARED. CRACK HAPPENED FROM NO KNOWN IMPACT. DIDN'T HEAR ANY ROCK IMPACT.
Mileage: 3,900
WINDSHIELD HAD A CRACK, THAT I THOUGHT WAS WEIRD AS I DIDN'T HEAR A ROCK, BUT A CRACK. I SAW THAT 2020 SUBARU OUTBACKS HAD A LAWSUIT FOR DEFECT. I FOUND OUT WEEKS AFTER I MADE AN INSURANCE CLAIM TO HAVE MY WINDSHIELD FIXED. I WAS DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY WHEN THIS HAPPENED.
Mileage: 15,500
MY WINDSHIELD CRACKED FOR NO APPARENT REASON WHILE DRIVING.
Mileage: 10,583
MY HUSBAND AND I WERE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY FOR APPROXIMATELY 20 MINUTES, WHEN WE STARTED TO HEAR A CRACKLING SOUND. SOON AFTER, WE WATCHED THE WINDSHIELD START TO CRACK ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. THE CRACK CONTINUED TO SPREAD, AND BY THE TIME WE RETURNED HOME, THE CRACK EXTENDED FURTHER. WE WERE DRIVING STRAIGHT AT 61 MPH WHEN THE CRACK STARTED, NO TURNS OR BUMPS IN THE ROAD AT THE TIME THE CRACK APPEARED. THIS HAPPENED ON OUR 2020 OUTBACK TOURING WITH 2,300 MILES, THAT WE PURCHASED OCTOBER 2020.
Mileage: 2,300
MY CAR WAS PARKED AND I DISCOVERED ABOUT A FOOT LONG CRACK IN MY WINDSHIELD. THERE DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE A REASON FOR CAUSE, NO CHIPS IN MY WINDSHIELD OR ACCIDENTS WITH THE CAR. IT'S MOSTLY GARAGE KEPT AND HAS LESS THAN 12000 MILES OVER 14 MONTHS OF OWNERSHIP.
Mileage: 11,917
THE FRONT WINDSHIELD CRACKED FOR NO APPARENT REASON.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2020 SUBARU OUTBACK. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER PARKING THE VEHICLE, THE NEXT MORNING IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE FRONT GLASS WINDSHIELD HAD CRACKED. THE CAUSE OF THE CRACK WAS UNDETERMINED. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT NO OBJECT HAD MADE CONTACT WITH THE WINDSHIELD TO CAUSE THE FAILURE. THE LOCAL DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT YET CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 31,000.

CRACK IN FRONT OF MY EYES DRIVING ON INTERSTATE 10, NO CARS IN FRONT OF ME AT THE TIME
I HAD ALMOST THE EXACT SAME EXPERIENCE WITH MY WINDSHIELD AS ANOTHER COMPLAINT I SAW FILED. MY 2020 SUBARU OUTBACK HAD ITS WINDSHIELD CRACKED WHILE TRAVELING SOUTHBOUND ON A HIGHWAY IN SC ON DEC 22, 2020. THE CRACK STARTED SMALL AND GREW QUICKLY OVER THE COURSE OF MY TRAVEL TO ABOUT 16 - 18 INCHES. THE WINDSHIELD HAD TO BE REPLACED AND THE EYESIGHT SAFETY SYSTEM NEEDED TO BE RECALIBRATED WHICH WAS BOTH TIME CONSUMING AND EXPENSIVE. I HAVE TRAVELED A LOT IN MY LIFE WITH MULTIPLE CARS BUT NEVER EXPERIENCED A CRACKED WINDSHIELD THAT SPREADED LIKE IT DID WITH MY NEW OUTBACK. IT IS DISAPPOINTING AND CONCERNING AFTER READING MORE ABOUT THE PENDING LAWSUIT ON DEFECTIVE WINDSHIELDS.
Mileage: 4,500
MY 2020 SUBARU OUTBACK HAD ITS WINDSHIELD CRACKED WHILE TRAVELING ON A TEXAS HIGHWAY (SOUTH PADRE - AUSTIN) ON DEC 27, 2020. THE CRACK STARTED SMALL AND GREW QUICKLY OVER THE COURSE OF THE TRAVEL TO ALMOST 20 INCHES. THE WINDSHIELD HAD TO BE REPLACED, WHICH WAS EXPENSIVE, CONSIDERING THE EYESIGHT SAFETY SYSTEMS NEEDED TO BE RECALIBRATED. I HAVE TRAVELED OVER 200K MILES IN THE US IN MULTIPLE CARS BUT NEVER EXPERIENCED A CRACKED WINDSHIELD THAT HAPPENED SO QUICKLY AND SPONTANEOUSLY AS IT HAPPENED ON THE SUBARU OUTBACK. I UNDERSTAND THAT THIS COULD BE A ONE-OFF EXPERIENCE BUT READING MORE ABOUT THE PENDING LAWSUIT ON DEFECTIVE WINDSHIELDS MADE ME SUBMIT THIS COMPLAINT.
A 12-INCH LING CRACK DEVELOPED SPONTANEOUSLY IN THE WINDSHIELD WHILE THE CAR WAS PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY OVERNIGHT. ONLY ~3,470 MILES ON THE CAR. THE CRACK STARTED AT THE BOTTOM-MIDDLE AND WENT UPWARD AND TOWARD THE PASSENGER SIDE IN A J SHAPE. THERE WERE NO SIGNS OF AN IMPACT TO ME, BUT THE DEALER SAID THEY WAS SIGNS OF IMPACT SO IT WOULD NOT BE REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY.
Mileage: 3,470
DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE (64) AND GOT A SMALL CHIP (ABOUT THE SIZE OF MY PINKY NAIL) FROM A ROCK/ PEBBLE IN LOWER LEFT AREA OF WINDSHIELD. PARKED THE CAR AT HOME. CHIP WAS STABLE. THE NEXT MORNING THE CHIP NOW HAS A CRACK ACROSS THE WINDSHIELD HORIZONTALLY ABOUT TWO THIRDS OF THE WAY. THE DEALERSHIP (CASEY SUBARU) HAS REPLACED THE WINDSHIELD. IT HAS COST ME $730 OUT OF POCKET WHICH IS TO BE REFUNDED TO ME FROM BOTH MY INSURANCE COMPANY ($230) AND THE DEALERSHIP ($500). I PURCHASED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FROM CASEY. I WAS TOLD THAT CHIPS NO MORE THAN ONE HALF INCH ARE COVERED. BUT NOT CRACKS. THANK YOU, SCOTT.
Mileage: 700
I HAVE HAD 4 CRACKED WINDSHIELDS THAT HAVE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED IN ONE YEARS TIME. NO WINDSHILED HAS MADE IT LONGER THAN 5 MONTHS, TWO ONLY LASTED ABOUT 6 WEEKS. I HAVE REPLACED ALL WITH OEM GLASS. LAST THREE INCIDENCE WERE FOR UNKNOWN CAUSE TO ME. I PURCHASED MY CAR 10/12/19 . FIRST WINDSHIELD WAS REPLACED 12/19, SECOND 5/20, THEN 7/20, AND AGAIN 12/20

MY WIFE AND I WERE SITTING IN OUR CAR AT A RED LIGHT STATIONARY AND THE WINDSHIELD CRACKED FROM THE BASE UP ABOUT 10 IN LONG FOR NO APPARENT REASON. THERE WAS NO DAMAGE PRIOR TO THE EVENT.
Mileage: 6,500
THIS IS THE SECOND CRACKED WINDSHIELD I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE WITH THIS CAR IN A LITTLE OVER A YEAR OF OWNERSHIP AND 18K MILES. IT STARTED AS A TINY ROCK CHIP BELOW THE WINDSHIELD WIPER AND TURNED INTO A 12+ INCH CRACK WITHIN A DAY. I DON'T REMEMBER WHEN THE TINY ROCK HIT MY WINDSHIELD, BUT THE FACT THAT I AM NOW ON MY 3RD. WINDSHIELD SHOULD POINT TO SOME SORT OF ISSUE WITH THE MANUFACTURER. THE WINDSHIELD REPLACEMENT AND REPROGRAMING OF THE SAFETY COMPONENTS TOTALS $1,400 AND CAN ONLY BE DONE BY THE DEALER.
Mileage: 18,000
I PURCHASED A NEW 2020 OUTBACK ON NOVEMBER 23RD.ON DECEMBER 30TH IT DEVELOPED A CRACK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE WINDSHIELD STARTING AT THE BOTTOM ABOUT TWO INCHES. EACH DAY IT HAS GROWN. NOW IT IS ABOUT 10 INCHES LONG AND IS SPLITTING TO EACH SIDE. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY INFORMED ME I WOULD HAVE TO TURN IT IN ON MY INSURANCE. THE CAR HAS 842 MILES ON IT..FROM ALL THE REPORTS I HAVE READ AN THIS ISSUE SUBARU SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL AND FIX THIS WINDSHIELD ISSUE. I HAD HOPED THIS CAR COULD LAST FOR YEARS BUT IT IS NOT LOOKING THAT WAY SO FAR.WHEN THE CRACK DEVELOPED IT WAS PARKED UNDER THE CARPORT AND HAD NOT HAD ANY IMPACT.
Mileage: 852
REAR CAMERA POOR IMAGE QUALITY. THE BACK-UP CAMERA IS THAT IT GETS FAIRLY GRAINY IN LIGHT RAIN AND/OR AT NIGHT. NOT VERY CLEAR AND I DON'T SEE ANY SETTINGS ANYWHERE. IT LOOKS LIKE A VERY OLD CAMERA LACKING LIGHTING AND YOU ALSO SEE THE "GRAIN" OF THE IMAGE.
Mileage: 100
THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED A ~12" CRACK VERTICAL CRACK IN THE WINDSHIELD. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND STATIONARY WHEN THE WINDSHIELD CRACKED. NO KNOWN PEBBLE, ROCK, OR DEBRIS WAS KNOWN TO HAVE STUCK THE WINDSHIELD. THERE WAS A RELATIVELY LOUD "POP" SOUND AND THE CRACK APPEARED IN THE WINDSHIELD. THE CRACK EXTENDS FROM ABOUT HALFWAY UP THE WINDSHIELD DOWN TO THE BOTTOM OF THE BLACK SECTION OF GLASS THAT SUPPORTS THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS (VISIBLE BUT LESS OBVIOUS IN THE PHOTO THAN THE CRACK THROUGH THE TRANSPARENT SECTION OF THE GLASS). THE VEHICLE WAS ~4 MONTHS OLD (PURCHASED NEW) AT THE TIME THE WINDSHIELD CRACKED. OUTDOOR TEMPERATURES RANGED FROM ~15 TO 35 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT AT THE TIME THE WINDSHIELD CRACKED.
Mileage: 7,000
WINDSHIELD CRACKED IN A RELATIVELY NEW (1-YEAR-OLD) VEHICLE. I DISCOVERED THE CRACK IN THE MORNING WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY. I BELIEVE IT WASN'T THERE YESTERDAY WHEN I LAST PARKED THE CAR.
Mileage: 15,000
WINDSHIELD SPONTANEOUSLY CRACKED OVERNIGHT. NO MARKING OF ROCK OR ANY DAMAGE.
Mileage: 10,500
AFTER A 650 MILE DRIVE WITH NO IMPACTS TO WINDSHIELD OR PERCEPTIBLE CRACKS, PARKED THE CAR OVERNIGHT. IN THE MORNING, A CRACK HAD DEVELOPED FROM THE LOWER DRIVER SIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD MOVING UP AND TO THE PASSENGER SIDE. WITH NO FURTHER DRIVING, THE CRACK CONTINUED TO GROW TOWARD THE PASSENGER SIDE, SPLITTING INTO TWO CRACKS. THE SPONTANEOUS CRACK IS IN THE EYELINE. THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY WHEN THE CRACK FORMED AND HAS BEEN STATIONARY AS THE CRACK HAS GROWN. SEE PICTURES. ONE PHOTO IS WHEN FIRST DEVELOPED, (DECEMBER 14, 2020) SECOND IN ON DECEMBER 30, 2020 AFTER NO DRIVING AND THE CAR REMAINING STATIONARY FROM THE 14TH)..

TODAY (26 DECEMBER 2020) AS I PARKED MY 2020 SUBARU OUTBACK IN A BUSINESS PARKING LOT, FOR THE THIRD TIME IN JUST FOUR MONTHS I NOTICED MY WINDSHIELD STARTING TO CRACK FOR NO APPARENT REASON. THERE WERE NO VEHICLES, ROAD DEBRIS , OR WINDS TO CAUSE THIS. THIS IS THE THIRD CRACKED WINDSHIELD ON MY NEW SUBARU IN FOUR MONTHS FOR NO APPARENT REASON. SUBARU HAS A PROBLEM! I HAVE DRIVEN OVER 1.5 MILLION MILES IN FORTY-PLUS PLUS YEARS, AND NEVER IN ALL THE DIFFERENT MANUFACTURERS AND MODELS OF VEHICLES HAVE I EVER HAD ISSUES LIKE THIS!
Mileage: 26,677
MY VEHICLE HAD BEEN PARKED, IN A SAFE PLACE, AT MY RESIDENCE FOR APPROXIMATELY 3 DAYS. ONE MORNING, I DISCOVERED A CRACK IN THE WINDSHIELD WHICH BEGAN ON THE PASSENGER SIDE, RUNS IN A SMOOTH LINE, MAKING A TURN UPWARD AND CONTINUES ACROSS THE WINDSHIELD AND STOPS CLOSE TO THE CENTER. THE CAR HAD NOT BEEN STRUCK BY A PROJECTILE OR ANYTHING THE LAST TIME I HAD DRIVEN IT. THERE IS NO "SPIDER-WEBBING" OR MARKS THAT WOULD BE CONSISTENT WITH IT GETTING HIT.
Mileage: 3,500
WINDSHIELD SPONTANEOUSLY CRACKED. ABOUT A 12 - 14 INCH CRACK AROUND THE WINDSHIELD TOP-CENTER. THERE WAS NO IMPACT. THIS HAPPENED OVERNIGHT WHILE SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY.
Mileage: 27,871
MY 2ND SUBARU OUTBACK IN 3.5 YEARS, AND IT IS THE 3RD TIME I HAVE TO REPLACE A WINDSHIELD (?!) THIS TIME IT IS ONLY IN 4 MONTHS OLD CAR, 2020 MODEL. I WAS NOT EVEN DRIVING WHEN I NOTICED THE WINDSHIELD CRACK POPPING UP - I WAS PARKED IN FRONT OF MY HOME, JUST STARTED THE CAR TO WARM IT UP. LOWER SECTION IN FRONT OF THE DRIVER'S SEAT, SLIGHTLY TOWARDS THE CENTER. I INSPECTED THE AREA ON THE BOTTOM OF THE WINDSHIELD WHERE IT APPEARED THE FIRST - NO APPARENT IMPACT OF THE ROCK OR SOME OTHER FLYING OBJECT. IT SEEMS LIKE THE GAP ON THE CRACK IS ABOUT 1/2 MM WIDE - LIKE THE PRESSURE FROM THE INSIDE IS TO BLAME FOR THE CRACK? (SEE THE PICTURES). OTHER PEOPLE I KNOW THAT OWN (OR HAVE OWNED) OUTBACKS ALSO HAD THEIR WINDSHIELD CRACKING. I GOOGLED IT ' I SEE THE INFORMATION ABOUT CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT ON THE WEB. HTTPS://WWW.TORQUENEWS.COM/1084/NEW-RULING-SUBARU-CRACKED-WINDSHIELD-LAWSUIT-NOW-ADDS-25M-CARS SOMETHING IS JUST NOT RIGHT HERE. SUBARU NEEDS TO STEP UP AND OWN IT, BEFORE SOMETHING HAPPENS TO ONE OF THEIR CUSTOMERS.
Mileage: 2,030
VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION ON THE HIGHWAY AND A LARGE CRACK, APPROXIMATELY 12 INCHES IN LENGTH, APPEARED FOLLOWING IMPACT WITH A VERY, VERY SMALL PIECE OF DEBRIS, 1 CM MAX DIAMETER. NEAR IMMEDIATELY A SECOND PIECE OF DEBRIS, ALSO 1 CM MAX DIAMETER, CAUSED AN 8 INCH CRACK IN LENGTH ON IMPACT WEATHER WAS WARMER THAN USUAL THAT WEEK, COMPARED TO PRECEDING DAYS. THE VEHICLE WAS CHANGING LANES WHEN THIS HAPPENED. NEVER HAD AN ISSUE LIKE THIS WITH ANY OTHER VEHICLE.
Mileage: 7,500
OUR WINDSHIELD CRACKED AND THE CRACK RAN IN A MATTER OF MINUTES. I EXPECT A BROKEN WINDSHIELD FROM TIME TO TIME BUT THIS SEEMED VERY ABNORMAL. THE WINDSHIELD WAS LESS THAN 6 MONTHS OLD AND THE SMALL CHIP OCCURRED AFTER A TINY, TINY ROCK HIT THE WINDSHIELD. THIS WAS WEIRD BECAUSE AFTER YEARS OF DRIVING IN COLORADO SMALL DEBRI HIT OUR WINDOWS ALL THE TIME BUT NEVER CAUSE ANY DAMAGE. THEN THE CHIP RAN ALL THE WAY ACROSS THE WINDOW IN A MATTER OF HOURS. IT WASN'T EVEN COLD OR HOT, IT JUST FREAKISHLY RAN ACROSS THE WINDOW. SOMETHING JUST DOESN'T SEEM RIGHT FOR A NEW WINDOW TO FRACTURE LIKE THIS SO QUICKLY.
Mileage: 15,000
YESTERDAY MORNING (CAR IS PARKED), I DISCOVERED A CRACK THAT IS ABOUT 4 INCHES LONG ON MY WINDSHIELD AND HAVE GOTTEN LONGER THROUGHOUT THE DAY AND TODAY. CURRENTLY, IT IS ABOUT 26 INCHES ACROSS THE MIDDLE. I LIVE IN AN APARTMENT AND HAVE PERSONAL PARKING WHERE ARE THERE OPEN PARKING AND NOT PARKED UNDER A TREE OR ANYTHING THAT WOULD HAVE FALLEN ON THE WINDSHIELD. THERE ARE NO SPIDERWEB CRACK OR SIGNS (LIKE A ROCK BEING THROWN..ETC) THAT WOULD INDICATE THE WINDSHIELD TO CRACK. I CALLED MY DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY NOR WAS IT RECALLED; EVEN THOUGH THERE ARE NUMEROUS CASES I'VE FOUND ONLINE THAT MANY 2020 OUTBACK OWNERS (AND OTHER SUBARU OWNERS) HAVE EXPERIENCED CRACKED WINDSHIELD FOR NO APPARENT REASON. I JUST BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE ON 29FEB2020; THERE IS NO WAY THAT A WINDSHIELD WOULD CRACK SO SUDDENLY UNLESS IT WAS NOT INSTALLED CORRECTLY OR DEFECTIVE/DUE TO HEATING ELEMENT.
Mileage: 16,000
WINDSHIELD CRACKED WITHOUT A REASON. CAR PARKED AT NIGHT. NEXT MORNING WINDSHIELD CRACKED WITHOUT ANY SIGN OF AN IMPACT

TODAY 12-3-20 WE WERE DRIVING ON I-95 IN FLORIDA TO SEE MY SON FOR THE 1ST TIME IN OVER A YEAR (AIR FORCE). SMALL ROAD PARTICLES WERE STIRRED UP FROM THE ROAD, (NOT ANYTHING LARGE, YOU BARELY HEARD IT HIT THE WINDSHIELD, ALMOST LIKE SAND) AND THEN WE HEARD A CRACKING SOUND, LOOKED AT OUR WINDSHIELD AND THERE IS ABOUT A 9 INCH CRACK ALL OF THE WAY TO THE BOTTOM TOWARD WIPERS, UP TOWARDS THE TOP. I'M 40 YEARS OLD AND HAVE NEVER HAD A WINDSHIELD CRACK, MUST LESS LIKE THIS OVER SUCH ROAD SMALL PARTICLES. ABOUT 3 MONTHS AGO, I WAS DRIVING ON I85 TO WORK, AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED BUT I CHALKED IT UP TO MAYBE THE DEBRIS WAS LARGER THAN I THOUGHT. TODAY MY HUSBAND, SON, AND NIECE WERE SIN THE CAR WITH ME...AND FRANKLY I AM CONCERNED THAT IF ANYTHING LARGE EVER HITS THIS WINDSHIELD, IT WILL SHATTER, OR THE ITEM WILL COME THROUGH THE WINDSHIELD. SO I DO. IT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THE VEHICLE FOR THIS VERY REASON. A WINDSHIELD IS SUPPOSED TO PROTECT AND I AM NOT CONFIDENT OR CONVINCED AT THIS POINT AT ALL THAT THIS ONE ON MY 2020 OUTBACK WOULD STAND A CHANCE AT ANY MIDSIZE ROAD HAZARD. BEFORE UPGRADING TO THE OUTBACK, I HAD A 2016 CROSSTREK AND HAD A 'LARGE ROCK' HIT MY WINDSHIELD, WHEN IT DID IT SCARED ME IT HIT SO HARD....ALL THAT WAS LEFT AFTER THAT MASSIVE RICK HIT WAS A SMALL HALF MOON SHAPED CHIP. THIS 2020 OUTBACK COULD IN NO WAY TAKE AN IMPACT LIKE THAT ONE. IT COULD SEVERELY HURT ME OR WHOMEVER IS DRIVING, INCLUDING MY 16 YEAR OLD SON IF THE WINDSHIELD WERE TO SHATTER IF IT IS HIT AGAIN. THIS NEEDS TO BE RECALLED AND REPLACED. FOR SUBARU, ALL ABOUT SAFETY, IT IS A SERIOUS ISSUE THAT AS A LOYAL SUBARU OWNER HAS ME QUESTIONING THE MISSION STATEMENTS AND HEARTFELT COMMERCIALS THAT WE SEE DAILY. MAKE IT RIGHT SUBARU. FIX IT!!
Mileage: 14,000
CAME OUTSIDE TO GET INTO THE VEHICLE AND SAW THAT WINDSHIELD WAS CRACKED. HAD NOT DRIVEN IT THE PREVIOUS DAY, THE NEAREST HOUSE IS OVER AN ACRE AWAY. WE HAVE NO CHILDREN. NO IDEA WHY IT WOULD CRACK BECAUSE WE WEREN'T DRIVING IT AND THERE WAS NO ONE AROUND TO DAMAGE IT AND IT HAD BEEN SITTING FOR OVER 36 HOURS.
Mileage: 5,000
I WAS DRIVING DOWN A PAVED ROAD WHEN I HEARD A NOISE AND REALIZED I HAD A CHIP IN MY WINDSHIELD. THERE WERE NOT CARS AROUND ME AND DIDN'T SEE ANYTHING FLY AT MY WINDSHIELD. THE ROAD IS IN A RESIDENTIAL/BUSINESS NEIGHBORHOOD. THE CHIP HAS NOT GROWN SINCE THEN. I DON'T REMEMBER THE EXACT DATE I'VE ALSO NOTICED AFTER GOING THROUGH A CAR WASH MY WINDSHIELD WILL LOOK CLEAN FOR BUT BY THE END OF THE DAY IT'S LOOKS DIRTY WITH LITTLE SPECKS ALL OVER IT AGAIN. IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT THE WEATHER IS.
Mileage: 1,000
THE WINDSHIELD CRACKED WITHOUT A REASON WHILE I WAS DRIVING. THE CRACK STARTS AT THE TOP, APPROXIMATELY AT THE CENTER. IT STARTED TO EXPAND DOWN AND IN A FEW HOURS HAS REACHED HALF OF THE HEIGHT. I CHECKED WITH FEW REPAIR SHOPS AND THE VERDICT IS THE WINDSHIELD NEEDS A REPLACEMENT. AFTER THE CRACK APPEARED MY ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL HAS STARTED TO TURN OFF BY ITSELF FOR SHORT PERIOD (SO FAR IT HAPPENED TWICE).
WINDSHIELD GLASS CRACKED SUDDENLY WITHOUT ANY APPARENT CAUSE. THE CRACK APPEARED DURING DRIVING ON OCTOBER 30, 2020. THE SIZE OF THE CRACK IS ABOUT 1/2", AND IT HAS BEEN TEMPORARILY REPAIRED.
Mileage: 12,500
CRACKED WINDSHIELD WHICH WE HAD REPAIRED ON 10/1/2020 FOR $821.71. CRACK APPEARED SEEMINGLY FROM NOWHERE ON THE MORNING OF 9/22/20.

600 MILES ON A BRAND NEW 2020 OUTBACK AND I HEARD A POP WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AND MY WINDSHIELD CRACKED FROM THE EDGE PROB 8 INCHES IN. I DID NOT SEE A ROCK AND IT DIDN'T SOUND LIKE A ROCK. IT'S A STRAIGHT LINE. NO BREAK LIKE SOMETHING HIT IT OR ANYTHING. SPONTANEOUS WHILE DRIVING.
Mileage: 650
SPONTANEOUS CRACKING OF WINDSHIELD WHILE VEHICLE WAS PARKED. STARTED AT BOTTOM OF WINDSHIELD APPROX. MIDWAY. APPROX. 9 INCHES IN LENGTH VERTICALLY THEN CRACK WENT TO PASSENGER SIDE APPROX. 5 INCHES.

NEW 2020 SUBARU OUTBACK WITH 3K MILES. WAS DRIVING HOME AT ~50MPH ON FREEWAY, A SMALL (1 CM) ROCK HIT UPPER WINDSHIELD AND MADE A SMALL CHIP. THE CHIP THEN SUDDENLY PROPAGATED TO A FOOT-LONG CRACK RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE DRIVER. HAVE OWNED MANY VEHICLES OVER THE PAST 30 YEARS AND HAVE NEVER HAD A WINDSHIELD SHATTER. PROPERLY MANUFACTURED WINDSHIELD SHOULD CHIP, NOT SHATTER.
Mileage: 3,000
MY WINDSHIELD RECEIVED TWO VERY MINOR CHIPS AT THE TOP OF DRIVER'S SIDE WINDSHIELD. WITHIN HOURS A CRACK APPEARED FROM ABOVE AND BELOW THE CHIPS, WHICH MEASURES AT LEAST 17' ACROSS THE WINDSHIELD FROM TOP TO MIDDLE. THE CRACK APPEARED WHILE DRIVING ON I 25 IN NM IN LIGHT TRAFFIC.
Mileage: 9,700
WE DISCOVERED A CRACK IN OUR SUBARU OUTBACK WINDSHIELD. THERE IS NO SIGN OF A CHIP FROM A ROCK HITTING THE WINDSHIELD, JUST A CRACK. THE VEHICLE HAD LESS THAN 4,00 MILES ON IT. THE OUTBACK WAS IN THE GARAGE WHEN DISCOVERED. WE HAD IT REPAIRED ON OCTOBER 28 2020. WHILE GATHERING INFORMATION ABOUT THE CRACKED WINDSHIELD I CAME ACROSS SEVERAL SITES DISCUSSING SUBARU CRACKED WINDSHIELDS AND A CLASS ACTION SUIT AGAINST SUBARU FOR THIS PARTICULAR PROBLEM.
Mileage: 3,500
DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND MY WINDSHIELD SPONTANEOUSLY CRACKED ABOUT 10 INCHES ON THE DRIVERS SIDE. NOTHING HIT THE WINDSHIELD WHEN IT HAPPENED.
Mileage: 11,400
I WENT OUT TO MY GARAGE AND FOUND A 8 INCH CRACK IN MY WINDSHIELD. THERE IS NO APPARENT IMPACT POINT TO THE CRACK. THE DAY BEFORE, I WENT GROCERY SHOPPING AND PARKED IT IN THE GARAGE WHEN I GOT HOME. THERE WAS NO CRACK. THE CAR IS 5 MONTHS OLD. I CONTACTED MY LOCAL DEALER FOR HELP, AND THEY SAID THEY HAVE NO KNOWLEDGE OF A WINDSHIELD PROBLEM.
Mileage: 11,500
FOR THE THIRD TIME, THE OEM AND OEM REPLACEMENT WINDSHIELDS CRACKED STARTING FROM THE EDGE AND QUICKLY PROPAGATED. NO FOREIGN OBJECT DEBRIS WAS NOTED HITTING THE WINDSHIELD TO CAUSE A CRACK.
Mileage: 16,000
I PURCHASED 2020 SUBARU OUTBACK LAST YEAR DECEMBER. IT IS JUST LESS THAN A YEAR. RECENTLY, WINDSHIELD CRACKED WHILE I WAS DRIVING FREEWAY TO WORK. I TRIED TO FIND WHY IT WAS HAPPENED BUT I COULD NOT FIND APPARENT REASON. SUBARU DEALERSHIP REFUSED TO FIX IT UNDER WARRANTY.
Mileage: 8,000
WHILE DRIVING ON ROUTE 76 IN AKRON OHIO, THE FRONT WINDSHIELD SPONTANEOUSLY CRACKED.WE HEARD A LOUD SOUND--LIKE A GUN SHOT--BUT NO EVIDENCE OF THE WINDOW BEING HIT BY A PROJECTILE. THE CRACK RUNS FROM BELOW THE WIPER BLADE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE FOR APPROXIMATELY 19 INCHES TOWARD THE CENTER OF THE WINDSHIELD. THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING THROUGH A CONSTRUCTION ZONE AT APPROXIMATELY 45 MILES PER HOUR. I HAVE PHOTOS OF THE DAMAGE BUT WAS NOT ABLE TO DOWNLOAD TO THE SITE.
Mileage: 10,000
THE WINDSHIELD CRACKED WHILE IN MOTION - IT SEEMS LIKE SOMETHING TINY MIGHT'VE HIT THE CAR BUT I WAS GOING SLOWLY AT LESS THAN 40MPH AND IT WAS NOT ANYTHING LARGE. THERE WAS A TINY SPOT BUT THIS QUICKLY CRACKED INTO A LARGE LINE ONLY A FEW MINUTES LATER.
Mileage: 2,000
WINDSHIELD CRACKED FOR NO APPARENT REASON WHILE DRIVING
Mileage: 4,000
SUBARU WINDSHIELD CONTINUES TO CRACK UNDER SUSPECT CONDITIONS. I AM NOW ON MY THIRD WINDSHIELD IN THE FIRST 5,000 MILES OF OWNERSHIP. THE FIRST WINDSHIELD CRACKED SPONTANEOUSLY WHILE DRIVING WITH NO OTHER CARS AROUND. THE SECOND WINDSHIELD CRACKED WHEN A MINISCULE ROCK HIT IT WHILE DRIVING. IT IS DANGEROUS TO HAVE SUCH WEAK GLASS IN A MODERN CAR. THERE IS NO REASON THAT WINDSHIELDS SHOULD BE CRACKING THIS FREQUENTLY.
Mileage: 5,000
THE WINDSHIELD CRACKED WITHOUT IMPACT, WHILE IN PARK POSITION IN A PARKING LOT. THE CRACK IS IN A "U" SHAPE WITH THE TOP OF THE U AT THE TOP OF THE WINDSHIELD. THE CRACK IS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE.
Mileage: 11,500
WINDSHIELD CRACKED WHILE DRIVING DOWN HIGHWAY. NO OTHER VEHICLES ON THE ROAD
Mileage: 1,000
A CRACK DEVELOPED IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW FOR NO KNOWN REASON. OVER THE A SINGLE DAY IT HAD INCREASED TO A CRACK RUNNING ALL THE WAY FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE WINDOW TO THE TOP. THE CRACK WAS FIRST NOTICED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND THEN INCREASED TO COVER THE HEIGHT OF THE WINDOW WITHIN 10 MINUTES OF DRIVING ON A SMOOTH ROAD.
Mileage: 12,000
THE WINDSHIELD IN MY 2020 SUBARU OUTBACK CRACKS FOR NO REASON. I'M ON MY THIRD WINDSHIELD IN A MONTH. THE WINDSHIELD CRACKS IMPAIR MY VISION AND IS MAKING THE CARD DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. SUBARU REFUSES TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE ISSUE.
Mileage: 8,000
GOT INTO MY VEHICLE AND NOTICED A LARGE CRACK IN THE WINDSHIELD. IT HAD BEEN SITTING UNUSED PARKED IN FRONT OF OUR HOME WHEN I NOTICED THE CRACK. IT WASN'T AFTER A COLLISION OR FROM SOMETHING HITTING IT WHILE I WAS DRIVING.
Mileage: 9,660
MY WINDSHIELD SPONTANEOUSLY CRACKED. NO OBJECT HIT IT. STARTED AS ONE INCH LINE. BY THE TIME I LEFT WORK IT WAS A FOOT AND A HALF IN LENGTH. DEALER SAID THERE WAS OBVIOUS ROCK IMPACT. I DID NOT TAKE A PICTURE WHEN I GOT TO WORK BECAUSE I WAS LATE. FIGURED I COULD DO IT AFTER WORK THEN IT HAD GROWN. I REFUSE TO BUY ANOTHER SUBARU WINDSHIELD. THIS HAPPENED WITH LESS THAN 5000 MILES
Mileage: 5,000
SITTING STATIONARY IN THE DRIVEWAY, A LARGE CRACK SPONTANEOUSLY BEGAN AND EXTENDED ACROSS THE WINDSHIELD. THE DAMAGE AND CIRCUMSTANCES ARE CONSISTENT WITH CURRENT CLASS ACTION LEGAL FILINGS FROM MANY, MANY VEHICLE OWNERS WHO HAVE HAD SIMILAR EXPERIENCES WITH RECENT SUBARU WINDSHIELDS.
Mileage: 3,000
WHILE DRIVING AT 30 MPH THE WINDSCREEN CRACKED FOR NO APPARENT REASON. AN OBJECT DID NOT HIT THE WINDSCREEN. I HAVE SINCE REPLACED THE WINDSCREEN AT SAFELITE WITH AN OEM SUBARU WINDSCREEN AND RECALIBRATED THE ADVANCED DRIVER SAFETY SYSTEM COSTING MORE THAN $1,000. THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL REPORTS OF FAULTS IN SUBARU OUTBACK 2020 WINDSCREENS WITH A PENDING CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT. I WANT TO REPORT MY EXPERIENCE

I PURCHASED MY 2020 SUBARU OUTBACK YESTERDAY, 8/24/2020, FROM MAITA SUBARU IN SACRAMENTO CA. WHILE DRIVING MY CAR ON THE HIGHWAY LATER THAT AFTERNOON, AN VERY SMALL OBJECT FLEW UP FROM THE ROAD CRACK THE WINDSHIELD. THE CRACK HAS GROWN ABOUT 2X IN SIZE IN LESS THAN 24 HOURS AND THE REPAIR BILL IS ESTIMATED TO BE $880. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE FOR A BRAND NEW CAR.

TOOK THE VEHICLE TO SATELLITE SHOP TO REPAIR THE APPROXIMATELY 1 INCH CRACK ON THE WINDSHIELD AFTER REPAIR DROVE VEHICLE APPROXIMATELY 5 MILES AND CRACK EXTENDED APPROXIMATELY 5 INCHES. SINCE SATURDAY AUGUST 22 WITH VEHICLE STATIONARY ON RESIDENCE DRIVEWAY THE CRACK HAS EXTENDED PAST THE CENTER OF THE VEHICLE IN ONE DIRECTION AND THE BOTTOM OF THE WINDSHIELD IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION. *LN *DL

WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 60 MPH, OUR WINDSHIELD ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE EXPERIENCED A "BULLSEYE" DEFECT WITHOUT ANY SOUND OF A PROJECTILE HITTING THE WINDSHIELD. WHILE CONTINUING TO DRIVE WITHIN 10 MINUTES, THIS DEFECT THEN "CRACKED" FURTHER EXTENDING IN OPPOSITE DIRECTIONS COVERING ROUGHLY A 15 INCH SPAN. OUR DEALER, NORTH COUNTRY IMPORTS, 616 QUAKER ROAD, QUEENSBURY, NY, WAS CONTACTED. THEY STATED THEY WERE NOT AWARE OF ANY HISTORY OF THE 2020 SUBARU OUTBACK HAVING A WINDSHIELD ISSUE. ONLINE WE WERE ABLE TO FIND THAT THERE HAS BEEN A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT REGARDING THIS. WE PURCHASED THE CAR 2 WEEKS PRIOR THIS INCIDENT. AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE WE WERE NOT TOLD OF ANY POTENTIAL ISSUES WITH THE WINDSHIELD AND WERE NOT ASKED TO SIGN ANY WAIVER CONCERNING THE LAWSUIT. ALTHOUGH THE DEALER HAS COVERAGE FOR WINDSHIELD REPAIR, "SUBARU EQUITY SHIELD OPTIMUM VEHICLE PROTECTION", WE WERE NOT OFFERED THIS PROTECTION AT THE TIME OF SALE. WHEN WE CALLED THE DEALER WE WERE DEALT WITH IN A HOSTILE MANNER BY THE MANAGER WHO WOULD NOT DISCLOSE HIS NAME BEFORE HANGING UP ON US. PRIOR TO TERMINATING THE CALL HE REITERATED THAT HE WAS NOT AWARE OF ANY KNOWN DEFECT IN THE WINDSHIELDS AND REFERRED US TO OUR INSURANCE COMPANY.

WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH IN MY NEW 2020 SUBARU OUTBACK WITH ABOUT 2200 MILES ON A FRESHLY SLURRY-COATED ROAD I SAW A SMALL PEBBLE SIZED OBJECT TOSSED IN THE AIR BY THE ONCOMING TRAFFIC AND LAND JUST INSIDE THE EDGE OF THE DRIVER SIDE WINDSHIELD. THERE WAS A SHARP POP - LIKE A .22 - AND A 4 INCH CRACK APPEARED. I CONTINUED TO DRIVE HOME AND THE CRACK APPEARED TO BE STABLE. I PARKED THE CAR AND GOT SOME REST. 9 HOURS LATER I WENT OUTSIDE AND FOUND THE CRACK HAD PROGRESSED TO THE CENTER OF MY WINDSHIELD. WHEN I CAME UPON THIS SITE I DECIDED TO DOCUMENT THE INCIDENT IN AN EFFORT TO WARN OTHERS THAT THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED INCIDENT AND SUBARU SHOULD BE TAKING THIS SERIOUSLY.

A TINY ROCK CHIP TURNED INTO A LARGE CRACK IN MY WINDSHIELD. THE CHIP HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY ANY HIGHWAY SPEEDS BUT WAS VERY MINOR. WHILE DRIVING THE SAME DAYS, SAME TRIP A LARGE CRACK DEVELOPED WITH THE FOLLOWING HOUR AND CONTINUES TO GROW. ALL WHILE DRIVING. THIS IS NEWER CAR WITH ONLY 11K MILES. I HAVE NEVER HAD A TINY CHIP ON WINDSHIELD END UP BEING A HUGE CRACK THAT KEEPS GROWING ALL WITHIN A FEW HOURS OF DRIVING ON THE SAME DAY/TRIP.
Mileage: 11,120
SPONTANEOUS CRACK OF THE WINDSHIELD. HIGHWAY DRIVING, HOT DAY AND A SMALL CRACK APPEARED (THERE WAS NO PEBBLE OR DEBRIS THAT HIT THE WINDSHIELD). YOU KNOW WHAT HAPPENS NEXT... THE CRACK GREW AND GREW AND GREW. I SEE THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM WITH OTHERS AND WANTED TO REPORT MY EXPERIENCE.

I WAS ON A FOUR LANE ROAD (UNIVERSITY AVENUE IN EVANSVILLE, IN - NORTHBOUND) AND MY WINDSHIELD JUST POPPED AND CRACK ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK THIS MORNING. I WAS MORE THAN 10 CAR LENGTHS FROM THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME AND I DID NOT SEE ANYTHING HIT MY WINDSHIELD OR ANYTHING COME FROM THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME.
Mileage: 10,600
THERE WAS A TINY ROCK CHIP THAT WAS ABOUT 7 INCHES FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE WINDSHIELD IN THE CENTER. I WAS AT A COMPLETE STOP AND IT CRACKED. ABOUT 14 INCHES FROM THAT CHIP ACROSS THEN DOWN. IT ALSO SPIDERED UP ABOUT 7 INCHES. SO NOW MY WHOLE WINDSHIELD WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED. THERE IS NO WAY THAT LITTLE OF A CRACK COULD SPIDER CRACK LIKE THAT. MIND YOU, I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT TOMORROW MORNING TO GET THE CHIP FILLED. I WAS PLANNING ON TAKING CARE OF IT BUT NOW I WILL NEED A WHOLE NEW ONE.

SINGLE ROCK CHIP TO WINDSHIELD OF 2020 SUBARU OUTBACK LIMITED XT WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY RESULTED NOT JUST IN CHIP BUT IMMEDIATE MULTIPLE EXTENDING CRACKS SPANNING MOST OF LENGTH OF THE WINDSHIELD. HAVE NOTED ONGOING CLASS-ACTION LAWSUIT OVER THIS ISSUE.

TINY CHIP IN CORNER OF WINDSHIELD, PROGRESSED WITHIN 2 HRS. TO A CRACK 1/3 SIZE 24 IN +/-) AROUND ON PASSENGER SIDE OF WINDOW. NOTICED ON A STOP, BUT WAS ON HIGHWAY, NO NOISE WAS HEARD PRECEDING THE CHIP.

PURCHASE 2020 SUBARU ON 12/30/19 AND AS 7/15/20 THE WINDSHIELD HAD TO BE REPLACED THREE TIMES DO TO CRACKING. FIRST TIME IT CHIPS AND CRACK APPEARED AND SPREAD THE WINDSHIELD. SECOND TIME, CAR WAS IN THE GARAGE AND CAME OUT AND FOUND A CRACKED ACROSS THE LOWER PART OF IT. THIRD TIME ON JULY 15 DRIVING ON A SECONDARY ROAD DRIVE OVER A SPEED BUMP AND A CRACK APPEARED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. THE GARAGE IS ALWAYS PARKED IN THE GARAGE. YESTERDAY, JULY 22, WALKED OUT TO THE CAR AND NOW THERE ARE NEW CRACKS ON THE DRIVER SIDE. HAVE NOT GOTTEN THE WINDSHIELD FIXED YET. CAN YOU HELP?

THE WINDSHIELD CRACKED FOR NO REASON I NEVER SAW ANYTHING HIT IT OR NEVER HEARD ANYTHING HIT IT. IT LOOKS LIKE IT STARTED AT THE EDGE OF THE GLASS. THEN THE CRACK BEGAN TO SPREAD OVER NIGHT WHILE CAR WAS SITTING, BECAUSE I WOKE UP THE NEXT MORNING IN THE CRACK WAS WAY LONGER.

TWO OEM WINDSHIELDS CRACKED (INCLUDING THE ORIGINAL) WITHIN 1 WEEK OF EITHER BUYING THE CAR OR REPLACING THEM. BOTH WINDSHIELDS' CRACK STARTED FROM THE MIDDLE OF EITHER THE SUPPORTING LEFT OR RIGHT BARS, GO IN FOR ABOUT 6 INCHES, AND THEN CURVED DOWNWARD. VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION, NO CAR IN FRONT OF US TO KICK UP GRAVEL, NO IMPACT POINT ON GLASS.

A CRACK SPONTANEOUSLY APPEARED ON MY WINDSHIELD A FEW DAYS AGO..IT LOOKS LIKE AN EDGE CRACK THAT JUST FORMED WHILE IT WAS STATIONARY ON MY DRIVEWAY AND DOESN'T APPEAR TO BE FORMED BY CONTACT WITH ANY OBJECT. THIS CAR IS JUST 4 MONTHS OLD AND HAS NOT BEEN DRIVEN MUCH. I BELIEVE THIS IS A DEFECT IN THE GLASS! *TR
I WAS SITTING IN MY CAR, WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO BRING OUT SOMETHING. THE CAR ONLY HAD JUST OVER 100 MILES ON IT, AND I'D ONLY DRIVEN IT 3 TIMES (INCLUDING THIS ONE) WHEN SUDDENLY THERE WAS A CRACK SOUND AND A LARGE (1'-1.5') CURVED CRACK APPEARED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD. I CALLED MY DEALERSHIP (THE CAR WAS A WEEK IN MY POSSESSION THE DAY THIS HAPPENED) AND TOLD THEM WHAT HAD HAPPENED. IMMEDIATELY THEY BEGAN TELLING ME THAT I MUST HAVE BEEN HIT BY A ROCK. I TOLD THEM THAT I WASN'T MOVING AND THEY SAID TO BRING IT IN. WHEN I ARRIVED THE WOMAN WHO 'HANDLES ALL THEIR GLASS CLAIMS' TOLD ME THAT A ROCK HAD HIT MY WINDSHIELD. I TOLD HER AGAIN THAT IT HAD NOT, THAT I HAD NOT BEEN MOVING, AND THAT THE ONLY TIME THE CAR WAS NOT BEING DRIVEN BY ME, WAS WHEN THE DEALERSHIP HAD IT, AND THAT AT NO TIME THAT IT WAS IN MY POSSESSION DID A ROCK HIT IT. SHE INSISTED THAT THE CRACKS DON'T JUST HAPPEN ON THEIR OWN AND THAT A ROCK MUST HAVE HIT IT. *TR

WE WERE DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY AND NOTICED THAT THE WINDOW HAD A SMALL CRACK WITHOUT HEARING A ROCK OR PEBBLE HIT THE WINDOW. OVER NEXT FEW DAYS THE CRACK WENT ACROSS THE WINDOW. IT SEEMS LIKE THE WINDOWS ARE TOO PRONE TO CRACKS AND CRACK MORE EASILY THAN THEY SHOULD. SUBARU REPLACED THE WINDSHIELD AT NO COST TO US WHICH WE WERE HAPPY ABOUT, BUT WANTED TO DOCUMENT THAT IT SEEMS THEY HAVE MORE FRAGILE WINDSHIELDS IN CASE THIS HAPPENS AGAIN.

DRIVING ON INTERSTATE AT HIGHWAYS SPEEDS, SMALL PEBBLE (MOST LIKELY) STRUCK WINDSHIELD, COULD NOT SEE THE PEBBLE, WAS NOT VERY LOUD. SEEMED INSIGNIFICANT BUT WHEN I ARRIVED AT MY DESTINATION 10 MINUTES LATER CRACKS HAD STARTED EMANATING FROM THE SPOT WHERE THE PEBBLE STRUCK. I'VE NEVER SEEN A WINDSHIELD BREAK SO EASILY, STUFF GETS KICKED UP ALL THE TIME ON THIS INTERSTATE. *TR

VEHICLE WAS BOUGHT IN NOV. 2019. IT HAS SINCE HAD IT'S WINDSHIELD REPLACED THREE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS ON THE FREEWAY EACH TIME AND THE WINDSHIELD WAS HIT BY A ROCK. NOW I KNOW ROCKS BREAK GLASS, BUT I HAVE NEVER OWNED A VEHICLE WITH SUCH A FRAGILE WINDSHIELD. I'VE OWNED MANY MANY CARS AND NONE HAVE EVER NEEDED THEIR WINDSHIELD REPLACED EVEN AFTER BEING HIT BY A ROCK. CHIPPED YES, BUT NEVER CRACKED ALL THE WAY ACROSS LIKE THIS VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE ALSO HAS A POPPING NOISE THAT COMES FROM THE LEFT FRONT, WHEN TURNING LEFT. THE DEALER CAN'T FIGURE OUT WHAT THE NOISE IS.
Mileage: 4,500
TRAVELING ON THE FREEWAY ON A SLOW RAINY DAY (~45MPH), A PEBBLE? HIT MY WINDSHIELD WHICH CRACKED AN AREA AS LARGE AS A PENNY NEAR THE WIPERS. RIGHT AWAY, THE CRACK STARTED TO PROPAGATE TOWARDS THE TOP OF THE WINDSHIELD, MAKING LARGE CRACKLING NOISES. LATER I FOUND OUT THAT IT HAS ALSO EXTENDED TO THE AREA BELOW THE WINDSHIELD SEAL (BY THE HOOD). I HAVE HAD A FEW CARS BEFORE AND ALL HAVE HAD ROCKS HIT THEIR WINDSHIELD. NEVER HAD I SEEN SUCH EASY YIELD IN WINDSHIELD GLASS TO SUCH LIGHT IMPACT. *TR

I HAVE A 2020 OUTBACK LIMITED AND THE FRONT WINDSHIELD HAS CRACKED TWICE ON IT WHILE DRIVING ON I-75 IN TN. BOTH TIMES A SMALL STONE KICKED UP BY A PASSING CAR HIT THE WINDSHIELD AND BEFORE I COULD GET IT CHECKED OUT BY SAFELITE; IT CRACKED HORIZONTALLY. I HAD THE WINDSHIELD REPLACED AND PAID $1035 TO HAVE IT REPLACED BY A SUBARU DEALER AND LESS THAN TWO WEEKS LATER, ANOTHER SMALL STONE KICKED UP BY A CRV PASSING ME HIT THE NEW SUBARU WINDSHIELD. AGAIN, IT IMMEDIATELY CRACKED HORIZONTALLY AND NOW I WILL HAVE IT REPLACED A SECOND TIME. THERE IS APPEARS TO BE SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE QUALITY OF THE GLASS: TOO THIN? DUE TO THE EYESIGHT SYSTEM NEEDING A VERY OPTICALLY PURE GLASS; PERHAPS THE GLASS IS TOO THIN. BUT THE QUALITY OF THE SUBARU FRONT WINDSHIELD GLASS NEEDS TO BE LOOKED INTO. (I WAS DRIVING AT 70 MPH IN VERY LIGHT TRAFFIC. NO TRUCKS IN AREA. *TR

I LEASED MY 2020 OUTBACK 5 MONTHS AGO AND THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THE WINDSHIELD EASILY CRACKS AFTER A SMALL OBJECT HIT THE GLASS AND MADE A LOW SUBTLE NOISE. I HAVE ENCOUNTERED SCENARIOS AS SUCH PREVIOUSLY WITH OTHER NON-SUBARU BRAND CARS AND NONE OF THE WINDSHIELDS CRACKED. CLEARLY THE QUALITY OF THE GLASS IS TERRIBLE AND DEFECTIVE. THERE EVEN SEEMS TO BE A BIG CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT REGARDING SUBARU WINDSHIELDS.
Mileage: 5,000
THERE IS A CRACK IN THE WINDSHIELD THAT BASICALLY APPEARED OVER NIGHT. IT WASN'T THERE WHEN WE PARKED IT IN THE GARAGE IN THE EVENING AND THEN I NOTICED IT THE NEXT DAY WHEN I GOT OUT. IT STARTS FROM THE EDGE OF THE GLASS AND THERE ARE EVEN SHARDS OF GLASS COMING OUT IN ONE SPOT. WE WOULD HAVE REMEMBERED A ROCK HITTING US AS OUR CAR IS ONLY A COUPLE OF MONTHS OLD...MY FIRST BRAND NEW PURCHASE. THE CRACK NOW GOES COMPLETELY ACROSS THE WINDSHIELD.
Mileage: 5,000
THE MORNING OF APRIL 28 I NOTICED A CRACK DEVELOPING ON THE WINDSHIELD OF MY 2020 SUBARU OUTBACK. IT STARTED ON THE PASSENGER'S SIDE BELOW THE WIPER AND IS HEADING UPWARD. THE PREVIOUS EVENING, I HEARD A SMALL ROCK HIT THE WINDSHIELD WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, HOWEVER THERE WAS NO CRACK EVIDENT AT THE TIME. THE NEXT DAY THE CRACK APPEARED AND THERE IS A VERY SMALL PIT AT THE ROCK IMPACT SITE. THE SIZE OF THE ROCK STRIKE DOES NOT SEEM LIKE IT SHOULD HAVE CAUSED THE ENTIRE WINDSHIELD TO CRACK. THIS IS THE SECOND CRACKED WINDSHIELD ON THIS 3-MONTH OLD CAR.
Mileage: 5,200
THE MORNING OF MARCH 26 I NOTICED AN APPROXIMATELY 8-INCH-LONG CRACK ON THE PASSENGER'S SIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD. BY THE END OF THE DAY THE CRACK HAD SPREAD TO ALMOST THE ENTIRE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD. THE CAR HAD BEEN SITTING IN THE DRIVEWAY THE PREVIOUS DAY AND THERE WAS NO NOTICEABLE ROCK IMPACT. AT THE TIME THE CAR HAD 3600 MILES ON IT AND HAD BEEN OWNED FOR 2.5 MONTHS. LOCAL DEALER (HERB GORDON SUBARU IN SILVER SPRING, MD) GRACIOUSLY COVERED THE REPLACEMENT AND RECALIBRATION OF EYE-SIGHT CAMERAS.

WIDSHIELD APPEARS TO HAVE SPONTANEOUSLY CRACKED FROM LOWER LEFT HAND EDGE TO A LENGTH OF NEARLY 12' IN FRONT OF DRIVER. VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN OUR HOME GARAGE WITH NO CRACK EVIDENT WHEN PARKED AND CRACK WAS DISCOVERED BEFORE BEING DRIVEN THE FOLLOWING DAY. CRACK APPEARED JUST A DAY AFTER VEHICLE WAS IN DEALER SERVICE FOR AN ECU REPROGRAMMING RECALL.

CAR HASN'T BEEN DRIVEN IN WEEKS AND HAS BEEN SAFELY STORED ON MY PROPERTY. GOT THE CAR OUT TO WASH IT AND I NOTICED A CHIP DEVELOPED IN THE WINDSHIELD. NOT ONLY THAT, BUT AN INCREDIBLY UNUSUAL SWIRL DEVELOPED IN THE GLASS THAT CANNOT BE CLEANED FROM INSIDE OR OUT. PHOTO ATTACHED. LOOKS LIKE SOMETHING BETWEEN THE LAYERS OF GLASS. FILED A CLAIM AND MY INSURANCE SENT OUT SAFELITE TO FILL THE CHIP. SWIRL IS STILL THERE. SEEMS UNSAFE. *TR

I GOT IN MY CAR ONE MORNING AND NOTICED A CRACK ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD. THE CRACK WAS ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND ORIGINATED FROM THE VERY BOTTOM OF THE GLASS. IT HAS BEEN A WEEK OR SO, AND THE CRACK CONTINUES TO GROW EVERYDAY.
Mileage: 3,500
A LARGE CRACK FORMED ON THE DRIVER SIDE AT EYE LEVEL. I'VE NEVER SEEN A WINDSHIELD BREAK SO SUDDENLY AND ABRUPTLY WHILE DRIVING. IT DISTRACTED ME FOR ABOUT 10 SECONDS AS I WAS WATCHING THE CRACK GET LARGER. I WAS DRIVING AT 50 MILES PER HOUR ON THE ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL. THE CRUISE CONTROL LOST VISIBILITY AND TURNED OFF IMMEDIATELY. FROM MY UNDERSTANDING THE WINDSHIELDS ARE MADE TO MEET THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO SAVE COSTS. SUBARU DOES NOT COVER WINDSHIELDS AND THE EYE SIGHT CALIBRATION IS WAY TOO EXPENSIVE FOR ME TO TAKE ON PERSONALLY. A COMPANY WHOSE REPUTATION IS BUILT ON SAFETY SHOULD NOT BE CUTTING CORNERS ON THE WINDSHIELDS.
FRONT WINDSHIELD CRACKED HALFWAY ACROSS THE GLASS AFTER A PEBBLE KICKED UP WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. THE CRACK SPIDERED OUT ON ITS OWN ACROSS THE ENTIRE FRONT WINDSHIELD WITHIN FIVE HOURS. CAMERA ON WINDSHIELD NOW HAS TO BE RECALIBRATED OTHERWISE WILL NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY.
Mileage: 2,200
FRONT WINDSHIELD HAS MULTIPLE PITS ON IT AFTER ONLY A FEW HUNDRED MILES OF OWNING THE VEHICLE. THERE HAVE BEEN NO ROCKS HITTING IT. THE VEHICLE IS GARAGE KEPT AND BARELY DRIVEN. THE CONCERN IS THAT THE WINDSHIELD WILL EVENTUALLY CRACK.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2020 SUBARU OUTBACK. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 4 MPH DURING A RAIN STORM, THE FRONT WINDSHIELD CRACKED AFTER BEING STRUCK BY A SMALL ROCK. THE CRACK EXTENDED APPROXIMATELY 3 FEET. THE LOCAL DEALER AUTO NATION SUBARU SCOTTSDALE LOCATED AT (15678 N. NORTHSIGHT BLVD, SCOTTSDALE AZ) AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE, BUT NO ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,800.

WINDSHIELD CRACKED AT LESS THAN 1800 MILES WHILE TRAVELLING DOWN HIGHWAY. AT LESS THAN 3,000 MILES, ANOTHER CRACK HAD DEVELOPED. BOTH CRACKS STARTED ON THE BOTTOM RIGHT (PASSENGER SIDE) OF THE WINDSHIELD AND ARE TRAVELLING UP AND TO THE LEFT OF THE WINDSHIELD IN FRONT OF THE DRIVER'S LINE OF SIGHT.

CAR HAD AROUND 6,000 MILES WHEN MY WINDSHIELD CRACKED WHILE MY CAR WAS SITTING IN MY HEATED GARAGE. NO HITS OR IMPACTS, JUST CRACKED. TOOK SUBARU AROUND A MONTH TO HELP ME AND THEN THEY INSTALLED IT IMPROPERLY AND I NEEDED TO WAIT ANOTHER WEEK TO HAVE IT COMPLETED PROPERLY.
Mileage: 6,000
MY 2020 SUBARU OUTBACK HAD SMALL WINDSHIELD CRACK FOR NO REASON JUST AFTER 2 MONTHS OF PURCHASING. IT WAS NOT USING FOR SOME DAYS AND WAS IN MY APARTMENT PARKING LOT. THE DEALERSHIP HAS FIXED THE PROBLEM FOR NO COST BUT IT LOOKS LIKE LOW QUALITY WINDSHIELD FITS ON THE CAR FROM FACTORY.
Mileage: 900
WINDSHIELD IN MY 2020 SUBARU OUTBACK SEEMS TO BE MADE OF FAKE GLASS, SOFT OR THIN GLASS THAT IS EXTREMELY SUSCEPTIBLE TO ROCK CHIPS AND GLASS BREAKAGE. HAVE HAD THE NEW SUBARU A LITTLE OVER A MONTH (2600 MILES) AND ALREADY HAVE HAD 3 ROCK CHIPS ON THE WINDSHIELD. IT SEEMS LIKE EVEN THE SMALLEST PIECE OF ROCK CAUSES THE GLASS TO CHIP. COMPARED TO MY OTHER 3 VEHICLES THESE ROCK CHIPS OCCUR MUCH MORE FREQUENTLY. IT HAPPENS WHEN FOLLOWING OR MEETING OTHER VEHICLES WHEN THE TIRES OF THOSE VEHICLES THROW UP SMALL ROCK PIECES. ALL 3 OCCURRENCES WERE WHILE DRIVING ON PAVED, 2 LANE HIGHWAYS. IT'S NOT JUST A CASE OF BAD LUCK AS MY 2016 SUBARU ALSO HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. IT'S FAKE GLASS. IT OBSTRUCTS VISION UNTIL YOU CAN GET THE ROCK CHIPS REPAIRED OR THE WINDSHIELD REPLACED.
Mileage: 2,400
WITHIN A WEEK OF PURCHASING MY 2020 SUBARU OUTBACK A CRACK APPEARED ACROSS THE WINDSHIELD, FOR NO APPARENT REASON. IT STRETCHES FROM ONE SIDE HALF WAY ACROSS THE WINDSHIELD, RIGHT IN THE FIELD OF VIEW. IT APPEARED OVERNIGHT, WHILE CAR WAS SITTING IN MY GARAGE. NO ROCK PECKS.
Mileage: 578
WINDSHIELD CRACK. HAVE OWNED THE VEHICLE FOR LESS THAN 3 WEEKS AND 250 MILES. STARTED THE CAR WITH REMOTE, AND AFTER ENTERING THE VEHICLE, NOTICED A CRACK AT THE BASE OF THE WINDSHIELD ABOUT 12" IN LENGTH. UPON INSPECTION, SAW AN AREA OF SMALL REFLECTIONS JUST BENEATH THE DRIVER'S SIDE WIPER WHERE THE IN-GLASS DEFROSTING ELEMENTS ARE LOCATED, THE CRACK EXTENDS FROM THIS POINT IN TWO DIRECTIONS; ONE DOWN TO THE BASE OF THE GLASS, THE OTHER DIAGONALLY UPWARD. FURTHER INSPECTION REVEALS NO CHIPPING OR ROUGHNESS ON THE EXTERIOR, THOUGH THE OUTER LAMINATION IS THE LAYER THAT IS CRACKED. THERE SEEMS TO BE A FLAW INTERNALLY FROM WHICH THE BREAK EMANATES. AS STATED EARLIER, THIS SIMPLY APPEARED UPON ENTERING THE VEHICLE FIRST THING IN THE MORNING. THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE WAS BELOW FREEZING AND THE CAR HAD BEEN STARTED WITH THE HEATER/DEFROSTER ON TO PRE-WARM THE INTERIOR. THERE WAS NO IMPACT TO THE WINDSHIELD FROM A ROCK OR OTHER DEBRIS; IN FACT THE POINT WHERE THERE IS THE VISIBLE FLAW IS EXACTLY BENEATH THE WIPER IN THE RESTING POSITION; NO OBJECT COULD HAVE STRUCK THE GLASS THERE AS IT IS COVERED BY THE WIPER BLADE. PHOTOS SHOW THE OVERALL WINDSHIELD WITH THE WIPER RETRACTED AND A CLOSEUP THAT SHOWS THE POINT OF ORIGIN AND HORIZONTAL DEFROSTER ELEMENTS. WHEN REPORTED TO THE SELLING DEALER, THE SERVICE PERSON SAID THERE IS NO COVERAGE FOR GLASS, IN SPITE OF THE STATED 36 MONTH/30K MILE 'BUMPER-TO-BUMPER' WARRANTY. WE EXPLAINED AND SHOWED DEALER REPRESENTATIVES THAT THIS INSTANCE WAS CLEARLY NOT CAUSED BY A ROAD HAZARD BUT A SPONTANEOUS BREAK. THE CRACK HAS CONTINUED TO LENGTHEN WHILE WE WAIT FOR APPEALS TO REGIONAL SUBARU REPRESENTATIVES.
Mileage: 220
IN THE MORNING WE DISCOVERED A 10-INCH LONG CRACK IN OUR WINDSHIELD. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN PARKED IN OUR GARAGE OVER 10 HOURS. WE FILED AN INSURANCE CLAIM PRESUMING A ROCK HAD HIT THE WINDSHIELD BUT NEITHER DRIVER RECALLED SUCH AN OCCURRENCE.
Mileage: 1,400
I BOUGHT CAR HOME ON JAN 2. ON JAN 4TH I WOKE UP AND DISCOVERED THE WINDSHIELD HAD CRACKED OVER NIGHT FOR NO REASON THAT WE COULD FIND. THE CAR HAD BEEN PARKED ALL NIGHT IN A DRIVE WAY AND NO OTHER DAMAGE OR ANYTHING WAS APPARENT. IT JUST GOT ABOUT 10 DEGREE COLDER DURING THE NIGHT THEN NORMAL.
Mileage: 200

I WOKE UP ON FRIDAY, MARCH 6TH TO SEE MY CAR'S WINDSHIELD HAD CRACKED OVERNIGHT WHILE IT WAS SITTING IN THE GARAGE. THIS CRACK WAS NOT THERE WHEN I PARKED IT THE NIGHT BEFORE. MY DEALERSHIP DOES NOT BELIEVE ME AND SAYS A STONE HIT IT BUT NO STONE HIT THE WINDSHIELD SINCE I DROVE IT OFF THE CAR LOT ON MONDAY, MARCH 2ND. I HAD THE DEFROSTERS ON FOR ABOUT 2 HOURS THURSDAY, MARCH 5TH. THIS IS A BRAND NEW LEASE WITH ONLY 200 MILES ON IT AS OF FRIDAY, MARCH 6TH WHEN THE CRACK WAS NOTICED.
Mileage: 200
WINDSHIELD CRACKED FOR NO APPARENT REASON. SUBARU DEALER WILL NOT COVER IT AND BECAME VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. THE CRACK BECAME MUCH LARGER OVER A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME AND THE CRACK GOES ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE BOTTOM OF THE WINDSHIELD ON THE DRIVER SIDE MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO SEE.
Mileage: 650
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2020 SUBARU OUTBACK. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE WINDSHIELD STARTED TO CRACK. THE CRACK STARTED FROM THE LOWER SECTION OF THE WINDSHIELD. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AT A GLASS REPAIR FACILITY. THE LOCAL DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,000.
Mileage: 3,000
THE WINDSHIELD DEVELOPED A CRACK SITTING IN THE GARAGE AFTER RETURNING FROM A 10 MILE DRIVE. TWO HOURS AFTER HAVING PARKED THE CAR WITHOUT ANY VISIBLE DAMAGE, A 10 INCH CRACK WAS VISIBLE ORIGINATING FROM THE UPPER LEFT CORNER. THE CRACK HAS GROWN TO ABOUT 24 INCHES OVER THE NEXT DAY.
Mileage: 1,350
THE WINDSHIELD CRACKED JUST A FEW HOURS AFTER APPLYING CRYSTAL FUSION TO PROTECT THE WINDSHIELD. IT STARTED RAINING AFTER IT WAS APPLIED. WE WENT TO DINNER, AND WHEN WE CAME BACK TO THE PARKED VEHICLE, THERE WAS AN APPROXIMATE 6" CRACK, ON THE LEFT, DRIVER'S SIDE, FROM THE EDGE OF THE WINDSHIELD.

FOUR WEEKS AFTER PURCHASING THE NEW VEHICLE, I NOTICED A SMALL CRACK APPEARED IN THE BOTTOM OF THE WINDSHIELD ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. IT CONTINUED TO CRACK FOR ABOUT 6 MORE INCHES. I HAVE NOW ORDERED A NEW WINDSHIELD TO REPLACE THE BROKEN ONE. THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY WHEN I NOTICED THE CRACK INITIALLY.
Mileage: 2,500

I PURCHASED A 2020 SUBARU OUTBACK ONE WEEK AGO (JAN 30, 2020) TODAY I HAVE 700 MILES AND AFTER HEARING OF CHARGES AGAINST SUBARU FOR PRODUCING DEFECTIVE WINDSHIELDS I INSPECTED MINE AND I NOTICED A 2' LONG WINDSHIELD CRACK ON LOWER DRIVERS SIDE. I'M CONCERNED THAT IT MAY SPREAD LATER TO IMPEDE MY VISION, BUT WANTED TO GO ON RECORD THAT THIS DEFECT EXISTS.
Mileage: 700
CRACKED WINDSHIELD FOR NO APPARENT REASON. PARKED THE CAR IN THE GARAGE WITH NO CRACK IN THE WINDOW CAME OUT IN THE MORNING AND WINDSHIELD WAS CRACKED. DEALERSHIP WILL NOT COVERUNDER WARRANTY.

CAR HAS ~1000 MILES. THE WINDSHIELD SPONTANEOUSLY CRACKED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. NO CHIPS OR IMPACT. CAR WAS NOT IN MOTION. JUST WOKE UP ONE MORNING AND NOTICED IT WAS CRACKED. THIS APPEARS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH SUBARU CARS. MULTIPLE REPORTS AND CLASS ACTION LAWSUITS.
Mileage: 1,000
THE WINDSHIELD SPONTANEOUSLY CRACKED FOR NO REASON. WHEN RETURNING HOME, NOTICED A 15 INCH CRACK RISING FROM THE LOWER PASSENGER-SIDE EDGE OF THE WINDSHIELD, RISING UNDER THE WIPERS AND TOWARDS THE CENTER OF THE WINDSHIELD. THE CAR HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN PARKED OUTDOORS UNDER OVERCAST SKIES (NOT HOT), AND THERE WAS NO IMPACT TO THE WINDSHIELD WHILE DRIVING. (NOR DO I RECALL ANY WINDSHIELD IMPACTS AT ANY TIME SINCE PURCHASING THE CAR) THE CRACK SIMPLY APPEARED. IT WAS NOT PRESENT 10 MINUTES PRIOR WHEN MY SON GOT INTO THE CAR.
Mileage: 5,900
WINDSHIELD CRACKED ON PASSENGER SIDE FROM BENEATH THE WIPER BLADE UP ABOUT 12-15 INCHES. VERY SMALL CHIP ABOUT 2 INCHES FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE WINDSHIELD ALONG THE CRACK. DO NOT REMEMBER BEING HIT BY DEBRIS. EVEN SO IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A VERY SMALL PEBBLE AND I BELIEVE IT SHOULD NOT HAVE CAUSED THE WINDSHIELD TO CRACK. SEEMS EXTREMELY WEAK. NOT SURE IF THE NEW 2020 OUTBACKS HAVE THE SAME WINDSHIELD ISSUE AS THE 2017-2019 BUT IT SEEMS TO HAVE A LOT OF SIMILARITIES WITH MANY OTHER CONSUMERS AND THE CLASS ACTION LAWSUITS AGAINST SUBARU FOR THIS REASON.
Mileage: 5,400
WINDSHIELD SPONTANEOUSLY CRACKED. ON 12/30/2020 MY WIFE AND I DROVE UP INTO MOUNTAINS TO SPEND NEW YEARS EVE CAMPING. ASCENT WAS 6000+ FEET WITH A SHARP TEMPERATURE CHANGE. TWO CRACKS APPEARED BELOW THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS, THEN JOINED INTO ONE AND SPREAD FURTHER UP THE WINDSHIELD. THE CRACK SEEMED TO OCCUR SHORTLY AFTER TURNING ON THE DEFROST FUNCTION. WE NOTICED THE CRACK WHILE STOPPED. NOTHING HIT THE WINDSHIELD. I TOOK THE CAR TO OUR DEALER, BOB BAKER SUBARY IN CARLSBAD, CA, BUT THEY DENIED ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE CRACK.
