The contact's fiancé owns a 2004 Suzuki Verona. The contact stated that on multiple occasions after starting the vehicle, the engine was lagging and then revved inadvertently. The contact also stated that while driving at various speeds and coming to a stop at a red light or stop sign, the vehicle stalled and lost motive power on multiple occasions. The vehicle was able to be restarted. Additionally, the contact stated that the driver's seat belt failed to latch, and the front passenger’s side seat belt locked without movement. The check engine, air bag, seat belt, and oil warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the timing chain and lifters needed to be replaced. The mechanic was unable to duplicate the additional failures. The vehicle was then taken to another independent mechanic, where a diagnostic tool retrieved various failure codes for unknown sensors and failure with the engine. The contact made a local dealer aware of the failures and the dealer confirmed there was no related recalls for the VIN. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 180,500.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 SUZUKI VERONA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ALL THREE REAR SEATS BELTS ON THE VEHICLE FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED TO REPLACE THE SEAT BELTS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 200,000.
THE SEAT BELTS IN THE BACK SEAT WILL NOT WORK PROPERLY. I HAVE 2 OUT OF THE 3 TO LOCK UP AND NOT WORK. I HAVE A 4YR OLD AND NOW SHE MUST RIDE BY THE DOOR DUE TO THE MALFUNCTION OF THE OTHER TWO SEATBELTS. I HAVE HAD SO MUCH TROUBLE OUT OF THIS CAR AND IT WAS BOUGHT NEW. IT SURGES AND HAS ALMOST GOT ME AND MY CHILD KILLED. I HAD IT IN THE SHOP FOR OVER A MONTH AND STILL HAVE ISSUES. THEY SAY IT DOESN'T HAPPEN WHEN THEY DRIVE IT. LIKE IT IS IN MY HEAD. 2004 SUZUKI VERONA EX DEVELOPED PROBLEMS WITH THE SEAT BELT EQUIPMENT.*MR THE REAR SEAT BELTS WOULD BECOME TOO TIGHT TO WITHSTAND AROUND ONE'S NECK. THE DEALER STATED WHEN THE SEAT BELTS WERE PULLED ALL THE WAY OUT, THEY WOULD ENTER THE RATCHET. *JB
I PURCHASED A NEW 2004 SUZUKI VERONA IN DEC OF 2004. I HAVE A 6 YEAR OLD WHO BY LAW MUST BE IN A BELT POSITIONING BOOSTER SEAT IN THE REAR SEAT. THIS VEHICLE IS COMPLETELY INCOMPATIBLE WITH EVERY BOOSTER SEAT ON THE MARKET. THE REAR "SEAT BITE" IS TOO NARROW AND THE SEAT BELT (RECEIVING END) IS TOO SHORT. I BROUGHT THIS SERIOUS PROBLEM TO THE ATTENTION OF THE DEALERSHIP (HUNTINGTON KIA/SUZUKI ON LONG ISLAND, NY)THEY WERE OF ABSOLUTELY NO ASSISTANCE. IN FACT THEIR ADVICE WAS COMPLETELY CONTRARY TO ALL MANUFACURER'S INSTRUCTIONS. I THEN CONTACTED SUZUKI CORP. AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS NO REMEDY TO MY PROBLEM. THEY DO NOT MANUFACTURE SEAT BELT EXTENDERS FOR THE REAR SEAT BELTS (WHICH MAY OR MAY NOT BE A SOLUTION???) I HAVE SENT A COMPLAINT TO THE NTSB WHO REFERRED ME TO THE NHTSA THIS IS MY 2ND CORRESPONDANCE WITH YOU.
CONSUMER STATED THE SEAT BELT LOCKED IN THE RETRACTOR. CAN'T WEAR THE SEAT BELT WHEN RIDING IN THE BACK SEAT. CONSUMER TO THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOUR TIMES. HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM RECURRED. *AK
BOTH PASSENGER AND DRIVER REAR SEAT BELTS LOCK UP. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND THE MECHANIC WAS ABLE COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. *AK WHEN THE REAR PASSENGER MOVED THE SEAT BELT BECAME TIGHTER AND TIGHTER TO THE POINT WHERE THE PASSENGER COULD BARELY BREATH. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CALLED TWICE BUT THEY DIDN'T PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. *NM
CONSUMER STATED THAT WHEN DRIVING, THE VEHICLE JUST SHUTDOWN. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY HAD IT FOR OVER A WEEK AND THE CONSUMER WAS AFRAID TO GET BACK INTO IT BECAUSE SHE THOUGHT SHE MAY GET KILLED. *AK THE ELECTRONIC KEY WOULD NOT OPEN THE VEHICLE AND IT WOULD RELOCK ITSELF CONTINUOUSLY AT LEAST THREE TIMES BEFORE THE CONSUMER COULD ENTER, THE SEAT BELT WOULD DISENGAGE ITSELF, THERE WAS A STALLING PROBLEM, THE DEALER SUGGESTED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD ADJUST ITSELF WHILE IN MOTION, AND THE A/C WOULD CHOKE. *SC *JB PE04062_CAT
