November 20, 2025 To the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Office of Defects Investigation Subject: Safety Defect Complaint – Tesla Model S I am submitting this complaint regarding a serious and dangerous safety defect involving my Tesla Model S. Safety Defect Summary: • After the high-voltage battery failed, the vehicle would not enter Neutral. • I had to use Tow Mode in the middle of a street on a hill to avoid blocking traffic. • Once in Tow Mode, the car could not enter Park and the emergency/parking brake would not engage. • The car became completely free-rolling, posing danger to myself, other drivers, and pedestrians. • When Tesla returned the car to my home, their technicians also could not get the vehicle into Park or activate any emergency braking system. • The car is currently stuck in Tow Mode in my driveway with physical objects placed behind the wheels to prevent it from rolling. Why This Is a Safety Hazard: A vehicle that cannot shift into Park, cannot use its emergency brake, and remains free-moving after a failure represents a serious safety defect. This occurred without warning and left the vehicle unsafe to operate or even store. Request: I respectfully request that NHTSA investigate this as a potential safety defect affecting the Tesla Model S when the high-voltage battery fails. A car should never lose all ability to secure itself.

Premature HV Battery BMS Failure After Tesla Replacement – Safety Risk of Fire and Sudden Power Loss
Tesla instrument cluster screens are leaking fluid and eventually failing. The instrument cluster is the only place I can see my speed, thus my car is now unsafe as I can not tell what speed I am driving at.
I am writing to express my serious concerns regarding two critical component failures in my 2013 Tesla Model S within the past 12 months, both of which occurred shortly after the manufacturer's warranty had expired. These issues have not only been financially burdensome but also raise questions about the reliability and longevity of Tesla vehicles. Motor Replacement: In Sept 2022, I was compelled to replace the motor in my Tesla Model S at a cost of $6,304.89. This occurred despite my vehicle maintaining a clean record and having only around 70k miles on it at the time. The timing of this failure, immediately after the expiration of the manufacturer's warranty, is concerning and suggests a potential design or manufacturing flaw. Battery Replacement: Most recently, I have been informed that the battery in my Tesla Model S requires replacement at an estimated cost of $15,545.97. Like the motor failure, this comes as a substantial financial burden, and again, it has happened just after the warranty period has ended. I find these consecutive, high-cost component failures within a short timeframe to be unacceptable and have led me to question the overall reliability of Tesla vehicles. As a responsible and safety-conscious consumer, I believe it is vital to report these issues to the NHTSA to ensure the safety and protection of all Tesla owners and the general public. I respectfully request that the NHTSA investigates these repeated component failures in Tesla vehicles, particularly the motor and battery, and assesses whether there may be any systemic issues that warrant further action or recalls. It is crucial for the NHTSA to uphold and enforce safety standards in the automotive industry to prevent similar situations from occurring in the future. On August 23, 2023 I was driving my 2013 Tesla Model S on the Van Wyck Expressway when suddenly the steering wheel became very stiff making the car hard to steer. I experience a loss of electronic power in steering the car. I called Tesla Road Service they dispatched a tow truck one of their tow provider and I was charged $475.00 dollars. It was towed to: Tesla Service Center @ 160 Van Brunt Street Brooklyn, NY 11231. I mentioned to Tesla Service Center per information I reviewed online this is a recall SB-22-00-014 per the year of my vehicle 2013 Tesla Model S. Tesla Service Center charged me $500.84 cents for a diagnosis they said the Electric Power Steering Gear Rack & Pinion is the issue and refused to acknowledge the recall per the model of my 2013 Model S Tesla. They quote me an amount of $4, 500.00 dollars before tax to fix the issue. When I declined the repairs per this expensive price I was informed by Tesla Service Center @ 160 Van Brunt Street to come and pickup the car. I arrived on Friday, August 25, 2023 to pickup the car with a tow truck the service department could not locate my keys. It took them 3 hours to find my key and then they put the car on service mode not allowing the car to go on park or drive only staying on neutral. They claimed that happened because the car reset itself. When I insist by a manager for them to fix that problem since the car did not come in with that issue only a stiff steering problem they refused. After several discussion with different staff and managers they had one of their mechanic to fix the issue and the car was able to go on Drive & Park again so I can have it towed to my location which took 3 tow trucks since Tesla wasn't cooperative in the beginning. I had the car towed to my location with the stiff steering the failed Electric Power Steering Gear Rack & Pinion Tesla refused to repair the problem per the Recall safety issue on this car. They want to charge me $4,500.00 plus tax out of pocket.
The contact owns a 2013 Tesla Model S. The contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle, the message “unable to drive, voltage supply” and “vehicle may not restart” was displayed. The vehicle failed to start. The vehicle was towed to the local service center who diagnosed that the drive unit was faulty and needed to be replaced, due to water ingress coming from the rear of the vehicle. The vehicle was not yet repaired. In addition, while operating the vehicle, a warning alert was displayed regarding the battery system and that the battery would no longer recharge. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who diagnosed that the HV battery pack had failed due to corrosion caused by condensation from the HVAC system. The HV battery was replaced, and the vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 95,000.

Center LCD SCREEN bubbling and leaking fluid from panel into car.
My main center computer touch screen has been leaking a sticky toxic glue for over 5 years. This toxic sticky glue continues to leak all over the interior of my vehicle which regularly needs to be cleaned. This saftey issue has been reported to Tesla several times and Tesla refuses to take responsibility for this saftey issue. The sticky toxic glue leaks severly worse when exposed to higher temperatures and definitely is related to heat/thermal heat exposure. Tesla did not utilize an automotive grade computer screen on earlier production vehicles and has since changed the type of computer screens utilized in their current production vehicles. This is an ongoing problems with thousands of earlier production vehicles. Tesla is aware of this problem and refuses take responsibility to issue a recall which affects thousands of customers who are experiencing this same saftey issue. Tesla WILL NOT help or do anything to resolve this problem saying my vehicle is out of warranty. I had to take the interior of my vehicle apart to constantly clean this leaking toxic sticky glue. This glue has been leaking on other interior electrical components which is a serious saftey issue!
Screen in front of the driver froze. Speedometer did not change, odometer did not change, map and directions did not change, gearshift indicator did not change, clock was frozen.
Explained to Tesla service center immediately upon purchasing vehicle while it was still under warranty that the vehicle range was unacceptable using TESLA's warranty guideline for requirements for a battery replacement while under warranty. TELSA refused to changed the battery even though I took the vehicle to TESLA several times while the Battery was still under warranty. A month after the warranty expired the motor died, it had been showing signs wear but TESLA failed to property inform me of the issue and charged me over $6000 for the repair due to my lack of knowledge on what the symptoms are for a failing motor. Shortly after the warning for "Charging - Maximum battery charge level reduced" has come on and TESLA is trying to charge me about $21,000 for a replacement battery.
At random the Steering assist reduce, traction control disabled, stability, control, disable, regenerative breaking reduced. Wipers are affected during these error messages. The car is trying to get me killed!! On different days, all those errors are gone and the car drives normal. Suspect this is a software defect and can be very dangerous. Seems like something got reset after the car is turned off. All software are up to date on the car and on the phone app. Once no more errors from the car, it would drive normal until it randomly disable traction control, stability control and wipers becomes very slow, get stuck at times.
1. 2nd row seat behind driver malfunction for years. (Mean can not insert) 2. On Dec. 5th, 2022, Drive off the Tesla model S off highway to local road and car just die. Tow to Tesla service station in Bellevue, WA. I was told drive unit was water damaged a day later. This drive unit was put in on June, 2018 to replace original drive unit, which broken in June, 2018 at 76k miles. 4.5 years later, and under 45k miles driving splashed water from road cause damage of drive unit. Unbelievable. If car died on the 520 bridge before I got off it really can be a serious car crash. This is really a safety issues.
Last week, my vehicle could no longer charge fast and I am unable to charge past 107 miles. The following message appears: BMS_u029 / "Maximum battery charge level reduced" After researching the issue, I found that hundreds of other Tesla drivers have experienced this problem (see: https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/forums/model-s-battery-charging.109/). Some were unable to charge after receiving this message, and some were capped at 30-50 miles, making the vehicles practically unusable. Tesla charges $15,000 (remanufactured battery pack) to $25,000 (new) to fix the problem. But many drivers are reporting that the defect is caused by a Tesla design, where the AC condensation drips onto the battery pack and create rust and corrosion, which then cause the batteries to malfunction.
My 2013 Tesla Model S 60 KW didn’t drive on July 2022 and I got a warning on the screen that all electrical systems are shutting down . The car had to be towed to Tesla Service . Tesla service told me the battery pack has to be replaced for 13k. I went down to Tesla Service and told them I want to see the battery pack but I was told that I couldn’t see it and was shown a piece of the corroded fuse box cover. I was told I couldn’t take a picture of it even though this was my car and own the battery pack . I was told only then that there was corrosion on the fuse box cover to the battery pack and the battery pack has to be replaced for 13k. I paid 13k and Tesla replaced the battery pack 6 weeks later. I have learned since then that many Teslas Model S year 2012-15 have this problem. The problem is that the air conditioner hose leaks on to the fuse box cover and corrodes it. Tesla knows about this problem and refuses to do anything and just says that the entire battery pack has to be replaced. This is a defect in the battery pack that fuse box is located under the air conditioner hose. I asked Tesla before paying for the replacement battery pack if this would occur with the replacement battery and was told that the replacement battery has the fuse box at the other side of the battery pack .not like the old battery. Apparently Tesla knows about this problem and redesigned the battery pack. This a defective battery pack and the car could stop driving suddenly and crash into other cars. This very dangerous and Tesla knew about this for years and didn’t do anything. I was under warranty from 2013 till 2021 for the battery pack and Tesla should have repaired the battery pack or replaced it. I want to reimbursed for my 13k that I spent on the replaced battery pack. Tesla knowingly knows this problem and deceived me and said just the fuse box got corroded. This happened in July 2022 in the heat when I had the air conditioner on and water leaked on to the battery pack.
The touchscreen failed and I need it replaced, but Tesla says it’s not part of what the NTSB negotiated with Tesla to do regarding these screens. 2014 model S. It’s not fair to me to have to replace what I believe is a defect. Also, I believe this car was salvaged in another state and then brought to CA and resold to me. There was a salvage record on Bumper and now it disappeared. There’s also a code on my car that reads that acceleration may be reduced and Tesla wants to replace connectors but I keep getting more and more parts added to the quote. They say this is a “preemptive” repair. They made a new firmware/software rollout which took away my Sirius XM capability and they say they know about it, but won’t reinstall my software. I believe their software/firmware has taken away attributes on my car. Tesla won’t give me the repair history to the car and I fear they are hiding all the recalls saying they’ve been done when in reality they haven’t. I’m worried about driving the car.
As I was driving the vehicle home one night on the highway, the vehicle had a 13% charge and told me to pull over safely as it was shutting down. I had it towed to a charging station and the issue seemed to be resolved. Then after a couple weeks, I was driving on the highway and revived another warning, “maximum battery charge level reduced- ok to drive- schedule service.” I brought it to the nearest supercharger and it only charges to 24% charge and it charges extremely slow. I took it in for service and the told me I need to replace the high voltage battery and quoted me at $19,414. I have seen reports of investigations taking place currently in Canada for the same issue. Apparently, these older Teslas have an A/C condensor unit that dumps water onto the battery and causes battery problems. Please look into this for me as I believe a recall is warranted. Battery packs on older Model S are dying WHILE driving. Puts the car non responsive and limp mode. No choice but to try and pull over. No acceleration and car dies. First occurrence warning happened, however went away upon charging the vehicle. Drove to a Tesla service center under its own power, left service center under its own power with no warning messages. Tesla is aware of the issue with older battery packs, demands 20k or to scrap your car, or they require a legal release pertaining to the battery pack. I was locked out of my vehicle and it was held without a mechanics lein. This legal release absolves them of all responsibility over the vehicle especially if you bring it to another shop. Owners have no right to repair their vehicles at shops with certified technicians. The second time this happened, luckily the vehicle was parked and died in a driveway. No warning messages prior. Tesla says it gave warnings however I was not aware. Car was towed by AAA to a service center where it currently sits. Main LCD screen has cracked. This screen controls all aspects of the car. I was told by Tesla repair that the crack will start to discharge toxic fluid and the car will cease to function.

The recall I have on this vehicle says I am ok to drive in the app
2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 Prior 2022 I shared with Tesla several times about my tires constant notification on the dashboard for low air. Tires were constantly being checked due to the dashboard display. I was told by Tesla it was covered, but no repair was done. When Tesla mobile or service only air was placed into the tires. Then I was told by Tesla mobile & calling 1800 when service, then when recall was performed it should fix the problem. Vehicle was not driven often due to black screen and tire issues/dashboard display. 2022 eMMC is finally replaced but now the warning on the dashboard reads 'Tire pressure monitoring system fault. Pressure sensor fault 'MAY' CLEAR NEXT DRIVE. This is negligent for Tesla to say IT MAY CLEAR NEXT DRIVE (see pic). Tesla service had the vehicle in shop several times and refused to repair/correct this SAFETY issue. I have complained and Tesla has blocked me from messaging Tesla. What if there is a blow out, low pressure, faulty system and an accident occurs causing hurt, harm, or death?

DATE: 24 MAY 2022 INCIDENT: Racial Profiling, Tesla customer service told the owner that he MUST PROVIDE THE 'PINK SLIP' (NOT THE REGISTRATION SLIP) FOR THE VEHICLE IN ORDER FOR ANY REPAIR OR SERVICE WOULD BE PROVIDED OR PERMITTED. This is racism, and not the first time.
Bubbles are developing on the instrument cluster screen that may pose a safety concern by obscuring sight of important vehicle information, including speed and battery charge status. This is getting worse (more bubbles developing and becoming larger in size) by the day. This is a known problem that has been reported by other owners. I brought in the car to be parked as part of NHTSA Recall No. 21V-035. The "fix" provided has led to my center console in the Model S to shutdown completely. I contacted Tesla to inform them that their fix as part of the recall has actually led to more problems.
I was just getting off the freeway, into a business area, and all of a sudden car stopped without any warning, with a quick "power reduced flash on the screen, unable to move at all. I was in the middle of busy area, blocking the street and cars parked on each side. The rear wheel drive locked, even in neutral position, and also tow mode. 4 people tried to push the car into a safe area without success. Had to wait for a tow truck to take the car to tesla facility. Was told there was an internal failure of the inverter and the unit its self, which would coast over 6k. Very scary and a stressful situation I suffered and it needs to be addressed of the danger.
Main screen is black, subject to current recall. Also, vehicle takes about 15mn to start. Tesla is trying to make us pay $1500 for the repair. Tesla non compliance reported on December 22 2021 to NHTSA by email and only now we are directed to file the complaint here.
Tesla, Please assist me in the following: 1. I have LIFE Time charging, explain the $305.00 fee for a brand new battery Tesla charged/bill me and installed. 2. Tesla has a suggested billing of $100.00 to put air into a (1) tire. Or $100.00 to bring all tires to federal standards. Basically, no tire repair just air into tires. Please explain the charge. 3. Tesla called me at 9:21 A.M. inform me that my 27 March appointment was canceled (I had no say so). Then, I was instructed to have Tesla Roadside Assistance to tow my vehicle to your kearny mesa service station for $386.00 (Aaron - 1-877-798-3752). 4. I was instructed that Tesla Roadside assistance memberships was not an option to me. 5. I have an appointment but was told parts for my vehicle might be available or might not be available for a 2021 Federal Recall, but today date is 22 March 2022. I've waited 1 year not months for Tesla to contact me when my vehicle parts were available in regards to the recall. It feels like a scam: $630.00 Tesla $386.00 Tesla Roadside Assistance. 6. Also, an Uber credit would be grant. Please explain why my vehicle that has an appointment for air in four tires, supercharged, recall and software update, is not a priority when I have an appointment. 7. In 2021, I was made to believe and instructed to purchase a 12 volt battery to repair Recall. 8. In 2022, Tesla again instructed me that my brand new battery to be replaced

On September 30th, 2021 I brought my car in to Tesla Carlsbad for an issue with the navigation. The Tesla rep also included the eMMC recall. In doing so my car is not slower to wake up and drive when I get in, the center display works intermittently which is a safety issue that the back up camera is disabled. Additionally as a result my walk away locking was disabled and and I had items stolen in the middle of the night (Feb 10, 2022). When brought to Tesla's attention they suggested a $1500-2000 fix to upgrade the chip from MCU1 to MCU2. Not only is this a safety issue but its fraud.
The following recall is active on my 2013 Tesla Model S: NHTSA Recall Number21V035. Yesterday I had a booked date to fix this recall on my car and other small items. The Tesla dealership completely refused to do this work! They sttated that my vehicle was too old and that the warranty period had expired. They are completely wrong, of course, since the recall has nothing to do with the warranty nor the age of the car. Please help! Greetings, Franz
Mobile charger will not charge. Green light but will not charge. Failure may leave driver stranded in a remote location without ability to charge and parasitic drain will permanently damage the battery pack and vehicle
There is a current recall on my Tesla. It is my 3rd time returning the car after Tesla performed a recall with eMMC . My screen continues to go black and signal won’t work. I have to pull over and reset my car. Only way to resolve the issue is an MCU2 upgrade that I don’t want to pay. I need help please. It happens every other day. I have numerous of photos with date and time as proof.
"Center Display Unavailabe" message on dashboard. The center display screen that is critical for operating the vehicle controls and camera etc. was blank.
Screen went totally blank and I can’t control anything. No access to heating, backup camera, navigation, etc.
The contact owns a 2013 Tesla Model S. The contact stated that while driving at 70 MPH, the vehicle inadvertently lost motive and electrical power. A warning message stating that the vehicle was about to shut off was illuminated. The contact swerved to the right, attempting to veer to the side of the road on the right lane; however, the vehicle stopped midway and a semi-truck almost crashed into the rear passenger’s side of the vehicle. The contact pushed the vehicle into a nearby parking lot with assistance. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who diagnosed that the battery had failed and needed to be replaced. The dealer advised the contact that they had replaced the battery with a new battery; however, the failure reoccurred, and the battery was replaced for a second time. The Department of Auto Motor Repair of California investigated and informed the contact that the dealer had kept his original battery and the third battery that the dealer installed in the vehicle was not new. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer who replaced the third battery with the original one; however, the failure reoccurred. The dealer replaced the original battery with an upgraded battery. The contact also stated that the hood would not close securely. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but was not repaired. The vehicle was towed to a second dealer; Tesla (7077 W Sahara Ave, Las Vegas, NV 89117) who repaired the vehicle. The contact stated that the rear passenger’s side door would fail to close. The vehicle was towed twice to the second dealer and was finally repaired. The contact stated that the center display of the vehicle would inadvertently turn off while driving. The contact stated that the failure had prevented him from using the rearview camera or have control of the door switches and some features of the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 45,000.

The contact owns a 2013 Tesla Model S. The contact stated while driving at an unknown speed, the media control unit turned off and was unable to operate the windows or the Air Conditioner in the vehicle. The contact stated that the temperature inside the vehicle began to rise and had to park the vehicle for 30 minutes. The contact stated she was able to restart the vehicle and was able to access the windows and the Air Conditioner and some other features. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer where it was diagnosed with needing to replace the old hardware to access the new updates. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated she had experienced the failure on multiple occasions. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

The rear view camera did not deploy when I was backing out of a driveway and I was struck by another vehicle. The police determined it was a no-fault accident. My insurance company deemed me primarily responsible. I was unable to see any oncoming traffic because the camera was not working and there were obstacles to seeing oncoming traffic. The car was deemed totaled by the mechanic and my insurance company. The car battery died soon after the accident and the vehicle remains in my garage and is immovable. I sustained minor head, neck and back injuries.
Car was charging in the garage on Dec 30, 2020 when at 5:25 AM a message was sent to my phone that the charging had been interrupted but not completed. 12 minutes later at 5:37 AM a message was sent that the Alarm on the vehicle had been activated. 2 minutes later the second Tesla in the garage sent a message that the alarm had been activated. None of these messages were seen at the time since we were asleep in the back of the house, but the car alarm did wake us up. Hearing the alarm woke us and soon after we heard smoke alarms from teh garage and throughout the house. When we walked to the front of the house, we could see flames from the garage to the top of the second story. We immediately exited the house. Tesla never came to the house to inspect the car that started the fire. To date it has not been examined and Tesla takes no responsibility for the damage. They advertise that the battery is warranted and that they will cover any damage caused by a faulty battery, but have refused to do anything.
I had a failure on my main computer. The MCU failed and the screen would not turn on. Tesla replaced a chip in my MCU but it did not fix all of my issues. I have to reboot my computer 95% of the time I am driving. Here are the issues: 1) 3g/GPS not activating. Leads to not being able to use GPS navigation. 2) Computer freezes. Usually while sleeping, computer does not wake up or the central screen does not respond leading to failures in many systems including: blinker, AC, radio, rear view for backing up, garage control, creep mode, etc. One time I left my computer in 'camp mode' so that it would keep cool on a hot day. While I was away from car, I checked on my mobile app to see the status of the car. The app could not connect to my car. When I came back, the computer had frozen up which meant that the AC was no longer working. This caused a unsafe level of temperature in my car of 100 degrees +. Luckily there was no dog or child in the car but I hate to think if there was. When I leave the car in 'dog mode' or 'camp mode', I expect it to do what it states it is going to do and keep my car cool. This could be very dangerous, especially on a hot day. In conclusion, even though Tesla did the fix for my MCU and my screen does turn on, it is not fixed 100% leading to constant reboots due to 3g failures and computer freezes. This happens almost every day.
Tesla has had a mandatory recall for the MCU and the screen. I went to get my car repaired, and they only fixed the MCU. They said my screen was not under the recall, but the whole point of the recall was to fix it. Now, with the screen not working, I am unable to control 95% of the functions of the car, including safety features like seeing the rear camera. TESLA SERVICE TELLS ME THE ONLY WAY TO MAKE THE CAR FUNCTIONAL AGAIN IS TO PAY OVER $1300 ON A NEW MCU. AS A SOFTWARE DEVELOPER, THIS FEELS SOMETHING TESLA CAUSED THROUGH OVERUSE OF THEIR MEMORY STORAGE SYSTEM AND/OR A PROGRAM BUG ASSOCIATED WITH SAVED NAVIGATION LOCATIONS.

I OWN A TESLA MODEL S AND I REPORTING ISSUES WITH MY TOUCH SCREEN MCUS. IT HAS COMPLETELY FAILED AFTER 7,000 MILES. PRESENTLY I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO CONTROL OF MY HEATING,, AIR CONDITIONING, FAN, SAFETY CAMERAS, GARAGE DOOR OPENER, OR ELECTRONIC CONTROLS ON ANY TOUGH SCREEN PORTIONS OF THE CAR. THIS IS A HUGE PUBLIC SAFETY CONCERN THAT IMPACTS ME AND THE PUBLIC AS WELL. I LIVE IN A MOUNTAINSIDE AREA AND WE DEPEND ON THE BACK UP CAMERA TO AVOID ACCIDENTS AS OUR GARAGE BACKS UP INTO A VERY NARROW LANE. AND I CAN NOT SEE THE CHILDREN AND ANIMALS THAT ARE IN BACK OF MY CAR WHEN I EXIT MY GARAGE. NOR CAN I USE ANY OF THE GPS FEATURES FOR GUIDANCE AS WELL. THE TOUCH SCREEN HAS COMPLETE FAILURE IN THE MCU UNIT. I CONTACTED TELSA RE THIS ISSUE AND INFORMED THEM THAT THIS IS A LIABILITY TO ME AND THE BRAND BASED ON THE HUGE SAFETY ISSUES THIS PRESENTS. I TOLD THEM I WAS GLAD THAT THE CALL WAS BEING RECORDED AS I DID WANT THIS ISSUE TO BE UNREPORTED. AND I INFORMED TESLA THAT THIS PROBLEM IS EXIGENT AS WE LIVE IN SOUTHEN CALIFORNIA AND THE TEMPERATE IS NOW OVER 120 DEGREES. THIS COULD CAUSE HEAT STROKE AND ALSO KILL OUR ANIMALS AS WELL. TESLA REPLIED THAT THIS MY MY PROBLEM AND NOT THEIRS. SOME OWNERS BELIEVE THAT IT IS A PROBLEM WITH THE EMBEDDED MULTI-MEDIA-CARD MEMORY (EMMC) IN THE MCU AND THAT IT IS BEING OVERWRITTEN TO THE POINT OF FAILURE. II KNOW NOW THAT IS A RECOGNIZED DEFECT KNOWN AS THE 'EMMC FAILURE' PROBLEM. I UNDERSTAND THAT TESLA NOW HAS INTRODUCED A NEW MCU IN 2018 THAT DOESN'T HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM, BUT OWNERS OF OLDER VEHICLES ARE STILL EXPERIENCING THE PROBLEM IN HAVING TO REPLACE THE UNIT OUT OF WARRANTY, DESPITE SEEING TESLA'S MISTAKE AS THE SOURCE OF THE PROBLEM INSTEAD OF A NORMAL ISSUE THAT OCCURS OVER TIME. I NEED RESOURCES AND REMEDIES TO CORRECT THIS MANUFACTURE INDUCED MALAISE.
IN EARLY JUNE 2019, THE TOUCHSCREEN IN MY 2013 MODEL S P95+ STARTED TO MALFUNCTION. IT WAS UNRESPONSIVE, GOES BLACK ETC. THEN ONE DAY, A GOOEY SUBSTANCE STARTED TO LEAK FROM INSIDE AND ONTO THE CENTER CONSOLE OF THE VEHICLE. I TOOK IT TO THE DANIA BEACH, FLORIDA DEALERSHIP. I WAS INFORMED THAT THE DISPLAY ADHESIVE WAS LEAKING DUE TO HEAT. THEY REPLACED THE ENTIRE MCU UNIT AT A COST OF $1,200. THIS IS APPARENTLY A KNOWN ISSUE RELATED TO THE SCREEN. LESS THAN A YEAR LATER, THIS PAST 08/31/2020, THE SAME THING STARTED TO HAPPEN TO THE MAIN INSTRUMENT PANEL. BOTH OF THESE ISSUES ARE APPARENTLY KNOWN PROBLEMS AND RENDER THE CAR UNSAFE TO DRIVE.

THE MCU ON THESE CARS ARE A KNOWN ISSUE FOR ALL TESLA'S WITH MCU VERSION 1. THE MCU IS AN INTEGRAL PART OF OPERATION, DRIVING ALL NECESSARY CHANGES ON THE CAR SUCH AS: ADJUSTING DRIVING LIGHTS, ADJUSTING TRACTION CONTROL SETTINGS, ACCESSING THE SAFETY & SECURITY FEATURES (REQUIRED FOR SAFELY JACKING THE CAR, ETC) AS WELL AS PLACING THE CAR IN TOW MODE TO SAFETY TOW THE CAR. THE MCU IS ALSO THE MAIN DRIVING COMPUTER FOR THE SECONDARY DISPLAY WHICH SHOWS DRIVING SPEED. FOLLOWING AN ISSUE WITH MY MCU, THE CAR WAS NOT ABLE TO BE PROPERLY DRIVEN AND WAS NOT ABLE TO ACCESS THE TESLA NETWORK TO RECEIVE SOFTWARE UPDATES, THE NAVIGATION AND MAPS DID NOT WORK AND THE RADIO WAS DISABLED. THE CLIMATE CONTROL WAS ALSO NON-FUNCTIONAL DUE TO THE FAILURE.

WE WERE FORCED TO REPLACE THE MAIN COMPUTER (MCU1). WE WERE GIVEN A CHOICE OF ANOTHER MCU1 (WHICH WE WERE TOLD MAY HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM EVENTUALLY) OR AN MCU2 WHICH WOULD NOT. WE CHOSE THE MCU2.

THEY REPLACED IT WITH THE SAME EXACT VERSION, BASICALLY SAYING ITS A KNOWN ISSUE AND THAT THIS WILL FAIL AGAIN EVENTUALLY. THIS ALSO ENCOURAGES PEOPLE *NOT* TO UPDATE THEIR SOFTWARE ANYMORE, AS ANY WRITES TO THAT EMMC MODULE IS JUST ONE STEP CLOSER TO FAILURE AGAIN.

BUT THEY WERE OVERLY EXCITED TO PITCH SELLING ME THE UPGRADES SCREEN AND COMPUTER FOR $2500 ..THEN BOASTED THAT IT LOADS FASTER LIKE YOUR CELL PHONE. THEY CONTINUED WITH SAYING I WOULD HAVE 4G OR 4G LTE ..WHEN I UPGRADE. OF COURSE I REPLIED.. HOW ABOUT TESLA JUST MAKING THE SYSTEM THE CAR WAS BUILT WITH JUST WORK PROPERLY. UNDER THE SAME CONDITIONS TRAVELING THE SAME ROUTE BY THE SAME PERSON. NOW, THE FULL CHARGE OF CAR LASTS APPROXIMATELY 100 MILES TRAVELED. TOTAL SUPER CHARGED BATTERY MILES DO NOT GO BEYOND 150 MILES EVEN AFTER WAITING MORE THAN 2 HRS. USING 220 AMPFOR 7 HRS, THE FULL BATTERY CHARGE GOES UP TO 160 MILES BUT EVEN THEN THE ODOMETER TRAVEL COVERED IS LESS THE 110 MILES UNDER SIMILAR CONDITIONS OF THE ORIGINAL 200 MILES TRAVELED. WE HAVE PAID FOR UNLIMITED USE OF SUPERCHARGER BUT WE ARE TOLD BY TESLA NOT TO USE SUPERCHARGER BECAUSE IT IS BAD FOR THE BATTERY. THAT IS TRUE. COMPLETELY BLINDSIDED BY THIS MALFUNCTION, THE NEXT DAY THE CAR WOULD NOT UNLOCK IN THE TYPICAL FASHION BY KEY DETECTION. IT ALSO WOULDN'T CONNECT TO THE APP TO UNLOCK. I AGAIN CALLED TESLA AND THEY ATTEMPTED A REMOTE UNLOCK WHICH WAS UNSUCCESSFUL. THEY SUGGESTED HAVING THE CAR TOWED TO TESLA FOR A FEW. THE CENTER MEDIA TOUCHSCREEN (MCU) IN MY VEHICLE STOPPED FUNCTIONING AND SEVERAL FUNCTIONS CEASED WORKING. INITIALLY I RECEIVED A "TOUCHSCREEN UNRESPONSIVE" MESSAGE WHILE DRIVING SO WHEN I STOPPED AT A STOPLIGHT I ATTEMPTED TO REBOOT THE MCU USING THE STEERING WHEEL CONTROLS. THE SCREEN STARTED THE REBOOT PROCESS BUT EVERYTHING THAT WAS ON INCLUDING HVAC AND RADIO TURNED OFF FOR THE REMAINDER OF MY DRIVE AND WERE INOPERABLE UNTIL AFTER THE SCREEN WAS REPLACED. THE TOUCHSCREEN NEVER TURNED BACK ON. MANY FUNCTIONS DID NOT WORK WHEN THE MCU DIED WITH THE ODDEST ONE OF ALL BEING THAT I HAD NO TURN SIGNAL SOUNDS WHICH I THINK ARE CREATED BY THE CARS AUDIO SYSTEM AND THE MCU. WITH THE LOSS OF THE MCU, I LOST THE USE OF MY BACKUP CAMERA AND MY HVAC WHICH WAS STUCK IN AN OFF STATE SO I HAD TO ROLL DOWN MY WINDOWS IN ORDER TO HAVE ANY AIRFLOW IN THE CABIN. THANKFULLY I DID NOT NEED THE FORWARD OR REAR DEFROSTER BETWEEN WHEN MY SCREEN STOPPED WORKING AND IT WAS REPLACED AS BOTH ARE CONTROLLED VIA THE MCU AND WERE UNAVAILABLE. CHARGING AT HOME WAS EXTREMELY LIMITED AND MAXED OUT AT VERY LOW AMPERAGE AND I WAS UNABLE TO CHANGE THE CHARGING AMPERAGE DUE TO THE INACCESSIBLE TOUCHSCREEN. I DID NOT TRY A DC FAST CHARGER. MOBILE APP CONTROL WAS UNAVAILABLE SO I WAS NOT ABLE TO USE IT TO ADJUST MY HVAC OR CHARGING SETTINGS. WHEN TOUCHSCREEN FAILED I LOST HVAC, STEREO, REAR VIEW CAMERA, NAVIGATION AND POTENTIALLY TURN SIGNALS (WHEN TURN SIGNAL STALK WAS HIT THE DASH DID NOT INDICATE TURN SIGNAL WAS ON, BUT WHEN HAZARD BUTTON WAS PRESSED THE DASH SHOWED THE TURN SIGNAL WAS ON). THE TOUCHSCREEN FAILED WHILE THE CAR WAS PARKED AND I WAS NOT IN IT. I GOT INTO CAR ONE MORNING AND THE TOUCHSCREEN NO LONGER WORKED. THIS SAME TOUCHSCREEN ALSO HAD ANOTHER ISSUE WHERE THE ADHESIVE ON THE SCREEN HAD MELTED AND LEAKED UNDER TOUCHSCREEN. THIS MELTED ADHESIVE CAUSED WHAT LOOKED LIKE A BUBBLE AROUND ~70% OF THE SCREEN. TESLA REPLACED THE TOUCHSCREEN WITH A REMANUFACTURED UNIT (THIS MUST OCCUR AT A HIGH ENOUGH RATE THAT REMAN UNITS ARE AVAILABLE) WHICH COST $1900 TO REPLACE. A NEW TOUCHSCREEN WOULD HAVE COST ME $2400. WHEN I PUSHED THE TESLA SERVICE FACILITY TO COVER THIS FAILURE UNDER WARRANTY THEY WOULD HEAR NOTHING OF IT, EVEN THOUGH BOTH FAILURES WERE KNOWN ISSUES. THE ENTIRE BOTTOM OF MY CAR WAS DAMAGED FROM GOING OVER THE CEMENT BLOCK AND MY WHOLE LEFT SIDE WAS DAMAGED FROM SCRAPING ALONG THE FRONT BUMPER OF CAR PARKED TO THE LEFT OF ME. IN THE PAST YEAR, MY CAR HAS LOST A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF RANGE, AND HAS EXPERIENCED SLOWER CHARGING SPEEDS. AFTER CALLING THIS TO THE ATTENTION OF A TESLA SERVICE CENTER, I WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH MY BATTERY AND THAT THE REPORTS OF A SOFTWARE UPDATE THAT LOWERED RANGE WERE RUMORS. I EXPERIENCED A 6% DECREASE IN RANGE IN A FEW MONTHS. MY CAR WAS 6 YEARS OLD AND ONLY AND 9% BATTERY DEGREDATION OVER THAT PERIOD. IN THE PAST 6 MONTHS IT HAS LOST AN ADDITIONAL 6% RANGE NOW TOTALING 15%, AND THAT ADDITIONAL RANGE REDUCTION SEEMS TO BE LINKED TO A SOFTWARE UPDATE FROM TESLA. IF THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE BATTERY THAT MAY CAUSE A FIRE, AND THAT IS THE REASON THAT TESLA DID INDEED ROLL OUT A SOFTWARE UPDATE TO INCREASE SAFETY, TESLA SHOULD REPLACE THE BATTERIES INSTEAD OF REDUCING THE RAGE . THE MOST SAFE THING TO DO IS REPLACE THE BATTERIES. I LOVE MY CAR, AND I AM A BIG FAN OF TESLA. UPON ENTERING MY PARKED CAR ON JUNE 24, I DISCOVERED THAT TESLA "CAPPED" THE BATTERY SUCH THAT EACH CELL WOULD ONLY CHARGE TO APPROXIMATELY 4.09 VOLTS, RESULTING IN A RATED RANGE OF 215 MILES AT A 100% SOC, OR A RATED RANGE LOSS OF 41 MILES. IN ADDITION, AFTER CRAWLING IN THROUGH THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR, I DISCOVERED THAT THE WINDOWS NO LONGER OPENED EITHER. IN ADDITION TO BEING A NUISANCE, THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE FOR SEVERAL REASONS. FIRST, IF THE CAR IS IN AN ACCIDENT, EMERGENCY FIRST RESPONDERS WILL NOT BE ABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR. SECOND, IF A DRIVER IS APPROACHED BY LAW ENFORCEMENT OR ANOTHER PERSON, HE/SHE CANNOT OPEN THE WINDOW TO COMMUNICATE. IN FACT, EARLIER THIS YEAR, A DRIVER PERISHED IN A FIERY TESLA CRASH. THE TESLA OWNER'S FORUM AND TESLAMOTORSCLUB.COM OWNERS SAY THEY'VE REPLACED ONLY THE STEERING MOTOR AND THAT 1 PART FIXES THE POWER STEERING FAULT. THE ELECTRICAL CHARGING PORT FAILED BECAUSE OF ELECTRICAL FAULTS. THE 12-VOLT BATTERY HAS FAILED TWICE DURING THE LAST YEAR. 5 DOOR REGULATORS HAVE BEEN REPLACED IN THE FRONT 2 SEATS DUE TO ELECTRICAL FAULTS. 3 WINDOW REGULATORS HAVE BEEN REPLACED DUE TO ELECTRICAL FAULTS. THE POWER STEERING FAILED DUE TO AN ELECTRICAL FAULT. I'VE PAID $6,500 FOR ELECTRICAL FAULTS DURING THE LAST YEAR. THE TIRES I BUY ARE RATED TO 55,000 MILES, BUT THEY KEEP WEARING OUT UNEVENLY, AND OFTEN BLOWING OUT, AT LESS THAN 30,000 MILES. THE SERVICE CENTER CANNOT TELL ME WHY THE TIRES ARE CONTINUALLY BLOWING OUT AND WEARING OUT UNEVENLY AFTER MINIMAL USE. I WENT TO A TESLA SERVICE CENTER FOR HELP RESETTING MY TOUCHSCREEN AND INSTALLING A FIRMWARE UPDATE WHEN I WAS THOUSANDS OF MILES FROM HOME. THE SERVICE CENTER FORCED ME TO GET NEARLY $2,000 OF NEW REGULATORS. PARTS WERE INCORRECTLY REPLACED THAT WERE NOT MALFUNCTIONING. PARTS THAT MALFUNCTIONED ONCE OR TWICE WERE REPLACED. PARTS THAT WERE REPLACED THE PREVIOUS MONTH, AND WERE COVERED UNDER THE TESLA PARTS WARRANTY, WERE REPLACED AGAIN. CRASHED HEAD ON AND AIRBAG DIDN'T EVEN DEPLOY. SAT FOR A MOMENT TO CATCH MY BREATH AND TRY TO PROCESS WHAT HAPPENED. SENT "BUG REPORT" ON TO TESLA CENTRAL FROM THE CAR. THE DASHBOARD HAD PRND LIT UP IN RED AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT GO INTO DRIVE OR REVERSE. ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS COMPLETELY LIMP. ZERO RESISTANCE. THANKFULLY, NO OTHER CAR WAS AROUND ME. CALLED TESLA SERVICE AND THEY TOLD US TO REBOOT THE CAR. WE DID, BUT ACCELERATOR PEDAL REMAINED COMPLETELY UNRESPONSIVE. HAD TO PUSH OUT OF THE 5 STORY GARAGE AND TOW IT TO AN AUTOBODY SHOP. FILED POLICE REPORT. REPORTED TO LOCAL TESLA SERVICE CENTER IMMEDIATELY. A FEW DAYS LATER, WE HEARD BACK FROM THE TESLA REP THAT SAID THAT REPORT SHOWED NO MALFUNCTION. ACCORDING TO TESLA ACCELERATOR WENT FROM 0% TO 88% SUDDENLY, IMPLYING "DRIVER ERROR." YET THEY ALSO SAID THE BRAKE WAS TAPPED AND THEN RELEASED PRIOR TO IMPACT. THIS DOES NOT JIVE, WHY WE A PERSON ACCELERATE, TAP THE BRAKE THEN RELEASE? SKID MARKS FROM REAR TIRES LEFT ON GARAGE FLOOR. TESLA WON'T RELEASE DATA. WE DO NOT WANT TO ACCEPT THIS REPORT AND THIS IS NOT WHAT HAPPENED DURING THE CRASH. TODAY THE AUTO BODY SHOP INFORMED US THAT THEY WERE CURIOUS WHY THE CAR IS NOT DRIVEABLE. INSTEAD OF STOPPING, THE CAR LURCHED FORWARD OVER A CURB AND A BERM, STOPPING WHEN IT HIT A FIRE HYDRANT, PROPELLING IT OFF OF ITS BOLTS, GENERATING A HUGE GEYSER OF WATER. BECAUSE OF THE TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF WATER GUSHING OVER MY CAR, I HAD NO VISIBILITY AND ELECTED TO STAY IN THE CAR WHILE ATTEMPTING TO DIAL 911. MOMENTS LATER, A MAN WHO HAD BEEN SITTING IN THE CAR NEXT TO THE SPACE WHERE I WAS ATTEMPTING TO PARK, OPENED THE BACK DOOR TO ASK ABOUT MY CONDITION. I THEN EXITED THE CAR. I WAS NOT INJURED AND THANK GOODNESS THE CAR HAD NOT HIT ANOTHER PERSON OR ANOTHER CAR. IT TOOK A TOW TRUCK ABOUT 15 MINUTES TO ARRIVE AT THE SCENE. ALL THE WHILE THE TORRENTIAL WATER SURGED AROUND, UNDER AND OVER MY CAR AND NOW FLOODED THE INTERIOR. AFTER THE THIRD TESLA BATTERY FIRE ON NOVEMBER 19, 2013: ON DECEMBER 23, 2013 TESLA MOTORS CLAIMED "TESLA VEHICLE IS OVER FIVE TIMES LESS LIKELY TO EXPERIENCE A FIRE THAN THE AVERAGE GASOLINE CAR" I THINK TESLA MOTORS IS YET AGAIN USING FUNKY STATISTICS TO MISREPRESENT AND OVERSTATE THE SAFETY WORTHINESS OF ITS VEHICLES. AFTER THE THIRD TESLA BATTERY FIRE, TESLA WAS AND IS STILL USING STATISTICS THAT SEEMINGLY ONLY FIGURED ON ONE TESLA BATTERY FIRE, RATHER THAN ALL THREE. *TR
AN INDIVIDUAL CLAIMS THAT WHEN HE CHARGES AT A LOWER RATE, THAT IF THE NEW SOFTWARE DETECTS A PROBLEM IT INCREASES THE CHARGE RATE RATHER THAN REDUCING IT. IF IT IS TRUE, UNDER SOME CIRCUMSTANCES THE UPDATE CAN INCREASE THE CHANCE OF AN OVERLOAD AND FIRE. IT SEEMS IN SOME CASES THAT THE TESLA SAFETY SOFTWARE UPDATE SAFETY "FIX" MAY BE CREATING FIRE HAZARDS. THERE MAY BE A GLITCH, BAD PROGRAMMING IN THE TESLA SOFTWARE UPDATE. PART OF THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V006000 RECALL, HAS A SOFTWARE UPDATE THAT BY AN ALLEGATION MIGHT INCREASE CURRENT WHEN THE SOFTWARE DETECTS A PROBLEM WHEN IT IS CHARGING AT A LOWER CHARGE RATE. ALLEGEDLY: A TESLA OWNER AWOKE TO THE SMELL OF BURNING ELECTRICAL. SHE CALLED 911. A FIRE FIGHTER WAS INJURED RESPONDING TO THE GARAGE FIRE. FIRE INVESTIGATORS SUSPECT THAT THE ORIGIN OF THE FIRE WAS THE WALL SOCKET OR THE TESLA UNIVERSAL MOBILE CONNECTOR FROM THE TESLA CHARGING SYSTEM PLUGGED INTO THE WALL OUTLET. I'VE SEEN EVIDENCE OF MANY OF TESLA'S CHARGING CONNECTIONS FAIL. EVEN IF THE CONNECTION FAILED AT THE WALL SOCKET, I WOULDN'T RULE OUT THE TESLA DESIGN AS A CAUSE OR A CONTRIBUTING FACTOR. THE DESIGN OF THE TYPICAL TESLA CHARGING CONFIGURATION PUTS UNDUE STRESS ON THE WALL SOCKET, WHICH COULD CONTRIBUTE TO A FAILURE OF A WALL SOCKET. IN MY OPINION SOME OF THE TESLA CHARGING CONNECTIONS ARE NOT ROBUST ENOUGH FOR THE POTENTIAL CURRENTS INVOLVED. MANY OF TESLA'S CHARGE CONNECTIONS ARE KNOWN FOR PRODUCING EXCESSIVE HEAT. *TR
MANY TESLA OWNERS HAVE ALLEGED HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THEIR TESLA POWER PLUGS AND OR ADAPTERS FOR THEIR CHARGERS. HERE IS ANOTHER EXAMPLE. QUOTE: "HAD A VERY DISTURBING INCIDENT LAST NIGHT. MY MODEL S WAS CHARGING IN MY GARAGE WHEN MY SMOKE DETECTOR WENT OFF. I RAN TO THE GARAGE AND SAW PLUMES OF SMOKE COMING FROM THE TESLA NEMA 14-50 ADAPTER. THE CAR WAS STILL CHARGING! I UNPLUGGED THE CHARGER FROM THE CAR AND YANKED THE CHARGER ADAPTER PLUG FROM THE OUTLET. THE NEMA 14-50 ADAPTER FUSED TO CORD. THE ADAPTER HAD A HOLE ON ONE SIDE WHERE IT WAS MELTING. I CALLED TESLA AND THEY SENT OUT SOMEONE WITH A NEW MOBILE CHARGER AND NEMA 14-50 ADAPTER. I AM NOT SURE HOW I FEEL ABOUT USING THIS ADAPTER AGAIN. THE BREAKER NEVER TRIPPED NOR DID THE CAR GENERATE ANY ERROR OR SHUT OFF CHARGING. I HAD THE ELECTRICIAN COME OUT AND INSPECT THE OUTLET. IT SHOWED NO SIGNS OF CHARRING AND TESTED OUT FINE FOR CONSTANT VOLTAGE WITHIN SPECS. NOT SURE HOW I FEEL ABOUT TESLA'S RESPONSE AT THIS POINT. I PLAN ON CALLING THEM IN THE MORNING." *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 TESLA MODEL S. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHARGING CORD BECAME EXTREMELY HOT AND THE CONTACT WAS BURNED AFTER MAKING CONTACT WITH THE CORD. THE PLASTIC PART OF THE CORD HAD ALSO MELTED. THE CHARGING CORD WAS DISCONNECTED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE, WHO ADVISED THE CONTACT TO CALL THE FIRE DEPARTMENT. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT FOUND THE CHARGING CORD TO BE DEFECTIVE. THE CONTACT FILED A COMPLAINT WITH THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5,500.

ALLEGEDLY A TESLA OWNER HAD A CHARGE PLUG AND ADAPTER OVERHEAT AND MELT, THAT COULD HAVE CAUSED A FULL BLOWN FIRE. I FIND THIS CONCERNING, ESPECIALLY IN LIGHT OF A RECENT TESLA GARAGE FIRE, THAT THE FIRE DEPARTMENT RULED THE TESLA CHARGING CIRCUIT AS A POSSIBLE SOURCE. MELTED CHARGING ADAPTER/CORD LAST EVENING MY WIFE AND I NOTICED WHAT SMELLED LIKE MELTING PLASTIC. AFTER A THOROUGH INVESTIGATION WE DETERMINED THAT THE ODOR WAS COMING FROM THE CHARGING PLUG AND CORDSET. AFTER BURNING MY HANDS AND ARM REMOVING THE PLUG I PULLED THE ADAPTER OFF THE CORDSET AND SURE ENOUGH THE INNERDS HAD MELTED DOWN.' I TOOK DELIVERY OF MY MODEL S ON MONDAY, JULY 1, 2013. I TOOK THE CAR FOR A FAST DRIVE AND I SMELLED SOMETHING BURNING. IT WAS COMING THROUGH THE VENTS. THE SMELL MADE ME DIZZY ALONG WITH MY FAMILY MEMBERS TO A POINT WHERE WE HAD TO STOP AND GET OUT OF THE CAR FOR AIR AND WALK IT OFF. WHY HASN'T THE GOVERNMENT ISSUED A RECALL ON THE TESLA MODEL S.
