My 2015 tesla model with less than 55000 mi had the front suspension broke on [XXX] when i pull out of the driveway. I heard a hard noise from passenger front tire that is scraping on the fender liner.The car was not drivable and had to be towed to a tesla dealership in cherry hill NJ > Quoted bill is $1800 to replace. With the low mileage , I never expected the suspension to brake unless there is a defect on the cars manufacturer front suspension fore link. I read on the NSHTSA that there was an investigation for the several complain for the 2015 - 2017 tesla model S . The service car representative took a picture of the broken suspension fore link that is holding the suspension front tires. While driving approximately 45mph on a smooth dry road, the drivers side front lower ball joint broke in half. This caused the wheel to separate from the lower control arm and get lodged between the fender well and the front subframe. This caused the inner tie rod to bend and the cv joint to separate from the inner connection. The rubber brake line was torn in half and undercarriage damage due to it slamming to the pavement. I notified Tesla and scheduled an appointment. This happened on 02/26/2025 at approximately 7am. The vehicle did not drive abnormal or give any warning before the incident. All maintenance and services were up to date.

Failure part was drivers side front wheel "Fore Link Assembly" which broke at the wheel connection on our driveway while turning left in reverse. I heard a loud thunk but hadn't run over anything and nothing irregular outside so I continued but now I could hear something scrapping. Turns out it was the front tire now rubbing the wheel well liner when turning left. pulled the tire off and you could easily see where the fore link fractured. Fortunately this part didn't fail on the road as the outcome might have been bad considering the possible loss of control. Our car, 1985 purchased new with 68,450 miles was towed via required flatbed to a Tesla Service Center and repaired. I have all replaced parts including the fractured section that fell on our driveway. Outside of the repair personnel and myself no one has looked at the part but you can clearly see what used to be a circular opening was elongated and ,about a 90 degree section, missing.

Drove out of my driveway and 2 minutes later I hear a metal clink and my steering wheel pulled to the left. I was going 15-20 mph. Pull over and see the right rear wheel angled inwards. And see a metal piece broke off. Turns out the rear control arm broke for no apparent reason. Many others reported same issue and there was a recall on this for 2013-2014 SB-19-31-001 [XXX] but not years going forward even though many of the newer Tesla’s have same issue. Luckily I was going g slow but it seems it is just a matter of time before this happens to someone on the highway or at faster speeds to cause some serious damage and injuries. Backing out of a parking spot, my car made a loud "thunk" and stopped. I put the car in park and got out, looking all around and under the car. I did not see anything. I backed out of the spot and circled the lot to see if there was anything in the parking spot I may have run over. Nothing. When exiting the parking lot, the car made the same "thunk" and again ground to a halt. I again exited the car and looked all around. This time, I could see that the front driver's side tire was not in the correct position. It was shifted toward the back of the wheel well. I knew something had physically broken. I had the car towed to a service center. They checked the car and said a suspension fore link had broken. They recommended replacing all of them, not just the one that broke. They blamed the age of the car (95,000 miles). I was incredibly lucky that this occurred in a parking lot given that the vehicle came to an immediate stop. There were no prior warning signs. The car last had a scheduled inspection at 87,500 miles.

Ive been notified that my front upper, lower arms, and bushings on my suspension are damaged. Tesla has sent me an massive bill to replace the parts on the car that I am not able to provide. As a looked up and talked to other Tesla S owners, this apparently is a major issues with all of them and very common. So common that China issued a recall requiring Tesla to fix this manufacture defect of wreaked and poorly manufacture parts. Why is the US not forcing this yet? They should be held liable for their fault mechanic engineer of the vehicle that is costing us THOUSANDS of dollars to repair and replace even at very low mileage Invoice attached. This was the cost AFTER they gave me discount for replacing a part I did not authorize. This was an issue with the dealership still.

This is the 3rd time a control arm on the car has cracked. I see tons of people online complaining about the same issue with the fault aluminum control arms. I have no damage and no rust and it just cracked on its on as i was backing out of a parking spot. I could have been seriously injured or my daughter had this happened on the highway. My dad is an issurance adjuster for 30 years and has never heard of any cars control arms cracking on their own. Please help as this is a huge safety issue and it seems Tesla has been putting the blame on the drivers. There was a grinding noise in reverse and the wheel was tilted inward. Multiple control arms have cracked in the car. A car that has no damage or accidents. This car is less than 10 years old and this doesn't happen with any other cars. It's a fault control arm part made out of cheap aluminum.

Rear suspension cannot be adjust which results in uneven tire wear that is hard to see which has lead to 3 tire blowouts in less than a 12 month period on the rear tire.

Tesla front right hand lower forward link failed at the ball joint (aluminum casting spilt open) Part #1041575-00-A, FRT FORE AWD LCA RH, Made in Canada. This happened while backing up on flat pavement without warning. The car has been well cared for, garaged, never damaged or abused and has less than 52K miles. It could have caused a life threatening accident if it would have happened at speed.

In 2016, approximately 18 months after purchasing my Tesla Model S, I was driving to work and brushed a curb on a tight city street. Upon arriving at my office parking garage, as I was parking and turning the steering wheel sharply to park in a space, my front right wheel fell off and the axle completely sheared off. Tesla blamed the incident on my curbing the wheel, which only caused light damage. However, more and more reports have come out recently (including this article: [XXX] ) which suggests that Tesla has known defects they are denying and blaming on customers. Not only did this cost me money out of pocket (more than just my deductible), but my insurer had to pay the full amount. Tesla admitted no fault and made me & insurance pay the full amount. FOR THE SECOND TIME IN 1 YEAR BOTH MY FRONT SUSPENSION HAVE BROKEN OFF WHILE BACKING UP.LAST YEAR WAS MY PASSENGER SIDE TIRE JUST THIS WEEK MY DRIVERS SIDETIRE JUST FALLING OFF FROM BALL JOINTS. TESLA CONTINUES EMPHAZING IIMPACTED WITH SOMETHING AND THEY WOULD NOT FIX THE BROKEN JOINT, THEY HAVE REFERRED ME TO A BODY SHOP THAT I DISAGREE DUE TO THE FACT THAT IT DOES NOT HAVE ANY BODY NOR STRUCTURAL DAMAGE JUST THE POOR SUSPENSION AND BALL JOINTS THAT ARE ISTALLED IN TESLAS. Tesla Model S began making clunking/grinding noise when reversing out of a driveway with the wheel fully turned. It turned out that the front left and right fore links have failed prematurely and caused the front wheels to rub on the wheel arch/fender. No potholes were ever hit to cause the damage. Car needed replacement parts totaling $979. A wheel alignment was also needed. Car only has 97,000 miles.

I had driven to a shopping center for buy a new backpack for my daughter who was starting school. After shopping, as I reversed my car, I felt as if I had gone over a bump. I came out to see if there was a bump or something else in the parking lot but found nothing that my car could have gone over. I got back in the car and started my drive and immediately, started hearing loud and griding noises. The noise would get worse as I would turn the steering wheel and the car would also seem as it is going over bumps. I immediately came out and look around and found nothing; I then looked at the wheel well and the surrounding area and didn't detect anything out of ordinary. I was able to drive the car home (roughly 1.5 miles) at speed no faster than 3-5 miles/hour without continuous loud and griding noise. I contacted Tesla who gave me an appointment for a week later. Inspection found fore-link broken. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Left fore-link connected to the front suspension of the car. Part is available for inspection. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? The breakage of the part made the wheel get disconnected from the suspension. Had I been driving on a highway or other roadways at higher speed, my car would have certainly gotten out of control and endangered my life and the lives of others. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? This is a known issue that has been reported by many Tesla Model S owners. There is also a recall in China for the similar parts. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Yes, it was inspected by Tesla service center. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? There were no warnings or other symptoms prior to the failure of the fore-link.

The control arm that holds my tire in place completely broke apart. It looks like the ball joint severed from the rest of the unit. I didn’t hit anything - not even a pot hole. I was driving in a residential area going 25 mph. I thought my tire went flat so I checked the car and didn’t see anything. I continued to drive the car and turned on the main road and my car almost veered me into oncoming traffic almost causing a crash. Luckily with sheer strength I was able to pull the car barely over to the side. Had I not been driving where I was, this could have been a scary situation. Tesla admitted to me this is a known safety issue but then said because my car isn’t under warranty, I was responsible. I asked for the defective part and have it in my possession.

This is the second time that a wheel becomes "lopsided" and no longer perpendicular to the axle. On 4/13/22 I was driving to work and suddenly I heard noises coming from the back wheel and I felt the car dragging. I found that the passenger rear tire was lopsided and almost falling out of the car. Then this year on 2/4/23 as I was going to work I found the driver rear tire also lopsided. Both times I had to pay for towing and $4000+ get the tire back on securely mounted to the axle. Both times the REAR UPPER CONTROL ARMS - FORWARD and REARWARD - need to be replaced. Last time we took it to a local repair shop, this time we took it to Tesla. This time, the following parts also needed to be replaced: REAR UPPER LINK SUSPENSION ASSEMBLY HALFSHAFT - REAR DRIVE UNIT - LH SUSPENSION - REAR UPPER - LH TOE LINK ASSEMBLY - REAR - LH INTEGRAL LINK - REAR - LH DROP LINK - SWAY BAR - REAR - LH SPRING and DAMPER ASSEMBLY - REAR - LH This is a unsafe car to drive - I understand that it's a low car and there are pot holes on NYC streets. But this car is still unreliable if it happens within 12 months that I cannot get to where I need to go because the car is undrivable.

Driving slowly, in reverse, in a smooth parking lot, the front right suspension made a big thudding noise and both steering and any braking made horrible metal and other screeching noises. This was at a very low speed. The suspension part, the forward link (lower control arm) had split open and no longer held the ball joint in place. This happened without any warning of any sort, and with no (I've owned the car for about 45,000 miles and 3.5 years) known abuse of the front suspension (no hard potholes, no curb, no rough or dirt roads, only smooth well-kept roads). If this failure had happened at highway speeds or even city street speeds, losing the ability to brake and steer properly could have been disastrous and is a safety issue. Part may be available after Tesla provides service - car is under a pre-owned certified warranty. From first inspection metal "bushing" on forelink appears to be completely cracked open.

Driving at highway speed, swerved slightly (in lane) to avoid road debris, front aft suspension snapped suddenly and separated from ball joint causing wheel to collapse in, disabling vehicle and causing temporary loss of control in rainy conditions. There was no warning, noises, looseness or other symptoms present prior to this event, vehicle had to be towed. Pictures were taken as well as a police report. I have the broken part in my possession.

I was driving my car around town and heard a slight knocking sound. It didn't seem to be a significant issue. Within a few hours, the knocking turned into a grinding sound. It seemed like the wheel was getting stuck in the wheel well. It didn't appear to be a significant issue, so I drove the car home. There were also no warning lights or indicators. As I drove home, the problem got worse and worse to the point where I was concerned about not being safe, but also didn't want to tow my car for a short distance. When I got home, I removed the tire and discovered that the fore beam on the right side had broken and was no longer connected to the wheel. Further research has shown that this is a known issue and there was a recall for the same issue in China. Tesla states that this happens due to driver abuse and bad roads. I can assure you that this isn't the issue in this case. When I brought it to the shop, Tesla insisted on replacing both sides, which indicates a concern for this to happen again. I have requested the broken part to be returned to me so I can inspect what happened.

Heard a pop sound as I backed from my garage. Started moving forward and heard a rubbing noise from tire. Moved car back into garage to inspect. When car was jacked up I found front following control arm broken at ball joint and completely separated. I've contacted manufacturer about repair but this could have caused severe driving hazard and lose of control if it occurred at speed. I've sent pictures manufacturer and have not heard back about repair. There was no warning of failure other than popping noise then failure.

I was backing out of a parking space while turning the steering wheel to the right. It sounded like I was running over a plastic milk jug or something like that. I stopped the car, inspected, there was no object under the car or in the wheel wells. I looked to see if any of the wheels were rubbing on the wheel well and did not see that. I then asked a friend to watch as I backed up, moved forward, and turned the wheel. He observed that the front wheel was rubbing on the wheel well, so I had the car towed to Tesla Service SODO. The next morning I found a portion of the aluminum bearing that is part of the right fore-link assembly. I drive the car for commuting and there were no incidences of impact that could cause this.

When driving above 45 MPH, there is a shuddering sound that comes from the front left of the car. After taking the car in for service, I was told that "the front AFT and Fore links are bad on the car" and need replacement.

I was driving on a street and needed to stop fast to avoid rear ending a stopped car. The control arm of my car broke. There was no debris on the road and I didn't hit anything. My car was towed to a Tesla Service center and they replaced both control arms (per the service person) and charged me only $200.

While I was backing out from my car garage and turn the steering wheel, I heard a squeaking sound while applying a brake on the passenger front tire area. I stopped the car and went out to check, the front passenger tire pretty much pushed all the way back touching the wheel arch liner (see photo). I called tesla and they sent a tow truck to towed it to their service center near by. I didn't realize how wide spread the issue was until I research the problem online. I filed this complaint to solidify with other people which have the same problem.

Suspension keeps making noises such as knocking roughly in both front wheels. Feels week and in high speeds it might get broken causing loss of control. Took it to service they will charge me even with the repair bulletin I found in NHTSA. I own a 2015 Model S - 85D / Mileage 42967 purchased September 2015. On July 11, 2021, I visited family in IL and returned to my residence. I was heading to the grocery store and backing the car out of the driveway by the garage door going 5-10 mph. As I turned to the left to back out, I immediately heard a squeaky grinding noise by the front left driver-side of the tire area. I moved forward and backwards to straighten the car and heard the grinding noise again. I also felt the left front driver tire rubbing into the wheel well liner around the tire and a little wobbly. I very felt uncomfortable and decided not to drive the vehicle and parked it in the garage until it was towed. I was without my vehicle and drove an alternate vehicle with gas. I called Tesla on 7/12/21 to inquire and was inform I may need a wheel alignment and scheduled appointment for 8/2/2021. There was the risk and danger of having a severe accident as I did not feel safe hearing the grinding noise. On Sunday, 8/1/2021, as I pulled the Tesla out of the garage to be towed this friend noticed the left tire moving from side to side. I updated my Tesla appointment and informed them of this issue. I received a call on 8/3/2021 from the Tesla Repair technician stating the problem was a broken suspension joint with the Front Driver Front Fore Link. My thought was – “What if this had occurred and broke while on the highway driving 65-70 mph?" I immediately went online to google and found the article that Tesla posted a 2017 service bulletin about the fore link suspension. I informed the Tesla repair center about the article and asked if Tesla would cover the repair expense since my vehicle problem has the exact issued addressed by Elon Musk. I had to pay $978.36 repair bill. There was no inspection except the Tesla repair center. There was no warning indication, alert or message for this critical failed nor correspondence from Tesla regarding the critical suspension problem

Was driving on freeway at approx. 55 mph. Had to brake rapidly (but not emergency type braking) for accident ahead. Passenger side front wheel locked up and could only drive vehicle to exit freeway. A piece of metal from the suspension had broken and was caught between wheel and brake. Car was towed to Tesla where they indicated the front lower fore link had failed.

I was driving at 30 mph on an empty, flat, straight road when the front passenger wheel popped and the car started wobbling and became uncontrollable. I pulled over and this wheel was tilted sideways off-axis. The car needed to be towed. I was told by Tesla that the front passenger wheel’s “control arm” broke. This happened without warning and without any impact or accident on the vehicle. Had there been traffic, or had I been driving at high speed, the vehicle would certainly have collided with other vehicles.

While backing out of the driveway I heard a loud crack and grinding noise when turning the wheel to pull out into the street. Upon stopping a checking where the noise was coming I found that the left lower fore link completely sheared/ cracked off and the wheel was up against the back of the wheel well. ***The area where the wheel was backed up against (Completely tore the liner) has the cooling tubing (now leaking) & a high voltage wireline. This could've resulted in serious issues if we were traveling at higher speeds. Tesla has failed to reach out and call back regarding the issue and the vehicle is rendered completely useless/ undrivable. I've owned many vehicles and this is most certainly NOT NORMAL WARE AND TARE! This is a big safety issue and needs to be addressed ASAP. Thank god my family wasn't on the highway or any road above 5MPH when this happened. The damage would've been catastrophic.

The information that is being provided should be added to a previous submission that was incomplete. - What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Yes, the vehicle is available for inspection. See attached estimate from TESLA for repairs. At slow speeds, when making a left turn out of the driveway or into a parking space, I noticed something is wobbling in the right front tire suspension. It was not tight. It resembles a loose ball in socket wobble. It was first felt with approximately 98,000 miles on the vehicle. The vehicle was taken in for the last checkup prior to the end of the extended warranty, but the problem was not discovered. I did not understand what was wrong with the vehicle until I took it in to TESLA to have a nail removed from the left rear. There is no excessive wear on my tires. I was informed that the vehicle needs $3660 in repairs to replace the suspension on all four wheels at 106,640 miles. Many of the miles on the vehicle are from interstate driving. The elevated rack inspection also revealed that the rear driver side wheel wobbles back and forth. Now I question the condition of the springs and struts. - Your safety or the safety of others put at risk? A failure in a joint such as a tie rod end or a ball joint, or one of the solid parts, a vehicle with a broken steering linkage part cannot be relied on to turn when you want it to. Experts say, "Suspensions are composed of too many different parts to list, but almost everyone is necessary for safe driving; any broken suspension part will have some negative effect on a car’s handling, steering, or braking, and a car with a broken suspension piece not listed above should not be driven lest you endanger yourself and others. Vehicle does not give any warnings that these parts are failing. I am currently on my 3rd set of tires, Michelin, Goodyear, Michelin all OEM. You would expect all parts designed for a TESLA be of the highest quality.

ISSUE 1). EVER SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR I NOTICED THE DRIVERS SEAT FELT COOKED CAUSING LOW BACK PAIN. I NOTED A CLUNKING NOISE ON THE DRIVER SIDE WHEEL AREA WHILE DRIVING. I ASK FOR HELP FROM SERVICE, BUT EVERYTHING IS AUTOMATED AND THEY MADE AN APPOINTMENT FOR A MONTH LATER. A FEW WEEKS AFTER REPORTING THE NOISE, I WAS BREAKING WHEN MY DRIVER SIDE FRONT WHEEL SEEM TO GIVE WAY AND THE CAR STARTED TO SKID. THE AFFECTED WHEELS SEEM TO BE SCRAPING THE WHEEL WELL. NOT MUCH HELP FROM THE SERVICE APP AND SUGGESTED I GET IT TOWED 200 MILES AWAY AT $1100 SO THEY COULD EVALUATE. MY LOCAL TIRE GUY SAW THE BROKEN LEFT LOWER CONTROL ARM AND SAID THIS WAS ALL OVER THE INTERNET AND CLASS ACTION SUIT HAD JUST BEEN FILED. AFTER DRIVING ABOUT A MILE FURTHER, WHEN TURNING TO PARK ELSEWHERE, THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE BEGAN RUBBING THE REAR SIDE OF ITS CAVITY (THE WHEEL LINER), AND BECAME UNSTABLE. WE HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED FROM THAT LOCATION 48 MILES, TO THE TESLA SERVICE CENTER IN CLARKSTON, MI (COVERED LARGELY BY OUR INSURANCE). TESLA DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A FAILED RIGHT FRONT FORE LINK ON MONDAY, JUNE 1ST, AND FIXED THE VEHICLE ON THE SAME DAY--(REPLACING BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT FRONT FORE LINKS). I WAS CHARGED $323.75 FOR LABOR, BUT DID NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR THE FORE LINK PARTS (2 X $205 = $410). FOR SOME UNKNOWN REASON, THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL LINER WAS NOT REPLACED AS PART OF THIS REPAIR. I CALLED TESLA CLARKSTON ABOUT THIS WHEN I NOTICED IT AND SCHEDULED A ROAD SERVICE REPAIR FOR JUNE 15TH. I WAS CHARGED AN ADDITIONAL $167.00 (PARTS, LABOR, AND $4.50 TAX) FOR THAT SERVICE.

FORTUNATELY, I WAS ONLY ABOUT A MILE FROM THE LOCAL TESLA SERVICE CENTER SO I DROVE THE CAR DIRECTLY THERE. ALTHOUGH THE CAR DID TURN, IT WAS NOT TURNING AS SHARPLY AS IT SHOULD. BUT IT WAS ENOUGH TO GET ME THERE AND INTO THE PARKING LOT SAFELY. AT THAT POINT, THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE LOOKED LIKE IT WAS PUSHED BACK AGAINST THE REAR OF THE TIREWELL. WE LOOKED UNDER THE CAR AND SAW A DETACHED CONTROL ARM ON THE RIGHT SIDE. THEY FIXED THE PART AND RETURNED THE CAR TO ME THE FOLLOWING WEEK.

TWO DAYS BEFORE THE CHINA RECALL ON SUSPENSION FOR TESLA, I HAD A QUOTE TO FIX FRONT AFT LINK AND REAR UPPER LINK ON BOTH SIDES. IT:'S A 2000$ JOB IN PART BECAUSE OF EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE PARTS FROM TESLA. IT IS EXACTLY WHAT WAS RECALLED IN CHINA. THE GUY ALSO ADMITTED THAT FIRST VERSIONS OF THE LINKS LIKE MINE WERE NOT GOOD AND THAT THE SECOND VERSION WAS WAY MORE RESISTANT. ON MANY CARS, THIS WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY IN THE FIRST FOUR YEARS BUT I HAVE LOW MILEAGE ON MY CAR WITH 47K MILES. I THOUGHT THAT IF CHINA FORCES TESLA TO ADMIT THE FAILURE, WE SHOULD HAVE THE EQUIVALENT HERE IN AMERICA.

THIS VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTURED IN FREMONT, CA IN 08/2015, WITH THE OTHER VEHICLES SOLD TO CHINA, WHICH ARE NOW BEING RECALLED FOR THE SAME REASON.

THE AIR SUSPENSION CONTROLS WOULD NOT ALLOW ME TO MOVE THE HEIGHT OF THE VEHICLE AND INSTEAD WERE LOCKED AT "VERY HIGH".

WE DROVE THE CAR TO THE MOUNTAINS AT SPEEDS UP TO 55MPH. AS WE STARTED TO DRIVE HOME WE HEARD MORE SOUNDS LIKE SOMETHING WAS LOOSE IN THE SUSPENSION. WE CALLED TESLA EMERGENCY ROAD SERVICE AND ASKED IF THERE WAS A HISTORY WITH SUSPENSION ISSUES. WE ALSO ASKED IF IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE HOME. THE TECH SAID THERE WAS NO SERVICE BULLETIN ON THE SUSPENSION. HE WAS UNSURE IF IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE. WE DID DRIVE THE VEHICLE SOME DISTANCE OUT OF THE MOUNTAINS WITHOUT INCIDENT. WE STOPPED TO VISIT A RESTAURANT AND WE HEARD FURTHER SOUNDS FROM THE SUSPENSION ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. INSPECTION SHOWED THAT THE LEFT FRONT DRIVERS WHEEL HAD MOVED BACK OUT OF CENTER IN THE WHEEL WELL AND HAD RUBBED THE WHEEL WELL LINER. FROM THIS POINT THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE TESLA SERVICE CENTER. WE LATER LEARNED FROM AN INTERNET SEARCH THAT EVEN AT LOW SPEEDS WITHOUT ANY SHOCK TO THE SUSPENSION, TESLA MODEL S CONTROL ARM/FORE LINK ASSEMBLIES FAILED IN 2015 VEHICLES. THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION AND COULD BE CATASTROPHIC IF THE FAILURE OCCURRED AT HIGH SPEED. WE SHOULD HAVE BEEN INFORMED THAT THERE WAS A HISTORY OF FAILURES AND IT WAS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. WE FEEL THAT BOTH THE FRONT AND REAR SUSPENSION OF THE 2015 ARE PRONE TO FAILURE AND SHOULD BE RECALLED FOR SAFETY REASONS. ALTHOUGH THE TESLA IS ALMOST 5 YEARS OLD THE VEHICLE HAS JUST 23,170 MILES. SUSPENSION FAILURES SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING AT THIS POINT. TESLA MODEL S HAD BEEN SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY FOR 2 YEARS, SUE TO A MEDICAL CONDITION I HAD. AT NEAR THE END OF 2 YEARS I WALKED DOWN TO EXAMINE THE CAR, NOTICED THE CAR HAD SETTLED DOWN ONTO THE TIRES. I HAD IT CHARGING CONTINUOUSLY, BUT APPARENTLY THE CHARGING OPERATION HAD FAULTED, AND THE CAR WAS DEAD. I CHARGED THE 12V COMPUTER BATTERY, THEN CHARGED THE 400 VOLT TRACTION BATTERY. I TURNED IT ON BUT COULD NOT MOVE FAR BECAUSE THERE WAS SOME INTERFERENCE BETWEEN TIRES AND INSIDE THE FENDERS, WHEN I WOULD HIT A BUMP. I WAITED FOR THE AIR SUSPENSION TO BE PUMPED UP, AND DROVE THE CAR TO HEAD FOR A TESLA SUPERCHARGER STATION. THE TRIP THERE FELT SQUIRRELY AND ASSUMED IT WAS MY STUDDED SNOW TIRES. AT THE SUPERCHARGER THE STEERING GOT VERY DIFFICULT, AND WHEN I LEFT I HAQD TO DRIVE CAREFULLY TO FEEL COMFORTABLE TO MY HOME. I RESEARCHED ONLINE, FOUND THE ELECTRIFIED GARAGE IN SEABROOK, NH AND SET UP A SERVICE APPOINTMENT. THEY DISCOVERED I NEEDED REPLACEMENT REAR AIR SHOCKS AND A NEW STEERING BOX. THEY EXPLAINED THAT BECAUSE THE SHOCKS WERE NOT MOVING FOR 2 YEARS, THEY DEVELOPED A CORROSION BETWEEN DISSIMILAR METALS (STEEL AND ALUMINUM) ON THE SHOCKS. THAT RESULTED IN CORROSION ON THE STEEL, AND CORROSION ON THE ALUMINUM, ALLOWING LARGE O-RINGS TO EXPAND AND LEAK AIR. THE REPAIR SHOP SAID THEY ONLY SEE THAT WITH TESLAS THAT SIT UNUSED FOR A TIME. I PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE AND THE SCREEN WAS BLACK. ALL THE CONTROLS WERE STUCK...FAN/AC...BACK UP CAMERA DID NOT WORK. MY TURNING SIGNALS DID NOT WORK. TESLA SERVICE CENTER WAS CLOSED SO ALL THE AC DID NOT TURN OFF AND DRAINED THE BATTERY ALL THE WAY TO 0 RANGE. TOOK A LOT OF TROUBLE TO GET TO THE SERVICE CENTER THE NEXT DAY. THEY CONCLUDED THE MCU WAS DEAD AND HAD TO BE REPLACED CLAIMING THAT IT WAS WEAR AND TEAR. WITHOUT ANY WARNING, THE MCU CRASHED AND COMPRISED SAFETY OF THE CAR WITH THE TURNING SIGNALS, SUSPENSION AND REAR BACK UP CAMERA NOT WORKING AMONGST OTHERS SINCE THE MCU CONTROLS EVERYTHING. WE BELIEVED TESLA KNEW OF THE PROBLEM AND PUT IT ON OWNERS TO REPLACE AT THEIR OWN EXPENSE IF OUT OF WARRANTY EVEN THOUGH IT SEEMS TO HAPPEN AROUND WHEN THE WARRANTY ENDS. WE HAVE 2 TESLAS AND BOTH THE MCUS DIED A LITTLE OVER 50K. IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN A SAFETY RECALL AND THE MCUS REPLACED AT NO COST. TERRIBLE BUSINESS PRACTICE AND SERVICE FOR SUCH EXPENSIVE CARS. AFTER THE 12V BATTERY ON OUR CAR DIED, IT WAS REPLACED BY TESLA SERVICE. AFTER THE BATTERY WAS REPLACED, THE CENTER SCREEN (MCU) WOULD NOT COME ON. THIS SCREEN CONTROLS ALMOST EVERYTHING IN THE CAR, INCLUDING BACKUP CAMERA, PARK DISTANCE CONTROLS, AUTO-PILOT, DOOR LOCKS, SUSPENSION, ADJUSTING BRAKING AND COLLISION WARNINGS, OPENING AND CLOSING SUNROOF, CHARGING (IT'S AN ELECTRIC CAR - NONFUNCTIONAL IF WE CAN'T ADJUST CHARGING), CLIMATE CONTROL, REMOTE COMMUNICATION, SOFTWARE UPDATES, ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM, ETC. WE CONTACTED TESLA, AND THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD US THESE SCREENS REGULARLY FAIL AT AROUND 4 YEARS (OUR VEHICLE IS 4-1/2 YEARS OLD). IN ADDITION, FAILURE IS APPARENTLY ACCELERATED BY THE FAILURE OF THE 12V BATTERY. AFTER WAITING MANY WEEKS FOR A "REPLACEMENT PART," WE WERE CONTACTED AND TOLD THEY HAD ACCIDENTALLY ORDERED A COMPLETE REPLACEMENT, WHICH WOULD COST $2,700 (WE HAD BEEN QUOTED $1,300). THE CAR HAS BEEN UNDRIVEABLE FOR MONTHS. IN ADDITION, IF THIS IS A PART THAT REGULARLY FAILS, IT SEEMS LIKE TESLA SHOULD COVER THE REPLACEMENT. NEXT DAY I PLANNED TO TAKE IT TO THE SERVICE CENTER TO HAVE IT CHECKED, BUT WHILE BACKING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY, TURNING THE WHEEL TO THE RIGHT TO JOIN THE STREET, IT MADE AN OMINOUS CRUNCHING SOUND AND SHUT OFF. FINALLY, THE CAR REBOOTED AND I SLOWLY MOVED UP THE DRIVEWAY AND STOPPED. WHEN I TURNED THE WHEEL TO THE RIGHT, I COULD SEE THE TIRE HITTING THE REAR OF THE WHEEL WELL - THE CAR AGAIN SHUT ITSELF OFF. I CALLED TESLA ROADSIDE SERVICE, A FLATBED CAME, THE CAR REBOOTED LONG ENOUGH TO STRAIGHTEN THE WHEELS AND GET THE CAR ON THE TRUCK. THE TRUCK DRIVER SAID HE HAD SEEN THIS BEFORE, AND THAT WHOLE WHEEL WELLS HAD DISINTEGRATED. THEY REPLACED BOTH FORELINKS WITH "IMPROVED" PARTS. I BRAKED TO ALLOW A CAR TO PULL OUT OF A PARKING SPOT AND MY CAR MADE A LOUD NOISE. I TRIED TO CONTINUE DRIVING BUT THE NOISE CONTINUED SO I PULLED INTO THE PARKING SPOT THAT HAD BEEN VACATED BY THE OTHER DRIVER TO SEE WHAT HAPPENED. THERE WAS WINDSHIELD WIPER FLUID LEAKING FROM THE FRONT WHEEL WELL AND A VISIBLY BROKEN CONTROL ARM AT THE FRONT LEFT WHEEL. I THINK THAT IS WHAT THE PART IS CALLED BUT I AM NOT CERTAIN. THERE IS A PICTURE OF THE BROKEN PART ATTACHED. THE WHEEL WELL WAS DAMAGED AND THE TRIM AT THE BOTTOM OF THE DOOR WAS LOOSE. THERE APPEARS TO BE NO CAUSE FOR THIS FAILURE AS THERE WAS NOTHING IN THE ROAD, NO POT HOLES, NO OBJECTS, NO BUMPS. THE CAR WAS DRIVING FINE BEFORE THIS OCCURRED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ABOUT 3 MINUTES AFTER I STARTED THE TRIP. SPEED WAS LOW THE ENTIRE TRIP AS I WAS LEAVING A RESTAURANT IN A DOWNTOWN AREA FULL OF PEDESTRIANS, STOP SIGNS AND PARKING SPACES. THE CAR WAS NOT DRIVE-ABLE FOLLOWING THIS FAILURE SINCE THE FRONT WHEEL WAS NO LONGER SUPPORTED. TESLA SENT A TOW TRUCK TO TAKE THE CAR TO THEIR NEAREST SERVICE CENTER.

I LOOKED UNDER FROM THE FRONT BUMPER AND SAW THAT I HAD A CRACKED FORE LINK AND A PIECE OF THE FORE LINK WAS LAYING IN MY DRIVEWAY. I STILL HAVE THAT BROKEN PIECE. TESLA SENT A FLAT BED TRUCK TO GET THE CAR AND REPLACED THE FORE LINK. THIS FAILURE SURE LOOKS LIKE IT COULD CAUSE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. IT IS HIGHLY IMPROBABLE THAT COLLISION DAMAGE WAS THE CAUSE OF THE BROKEN SUSPENSION ARM SINCE THE TIRE WOULD HAVE ABSORBED MOST OF THE IMPACT. FROM THE CRASH TESTING VIDEOS IT IS EVIDENT THAT THE TESLA WHEELS ARE VERY FRAGILE AND OUGHT TO HAVE BROKEN BEFORE THE SUSPENSION DID. FRONT LEFT CONTROL ARM SUFFERED A FAILURE CAUSING IT TO BREAK LOOSE FROM THE BALL JOINT AND CAUSING THE WHEEL TO PUSH BACK INTO THE BODY OF THE CAR. THE FAILURE CAUSED THE CAR TO LIFT UP AND COME TO A DEAD STOP. THIS WAS AT ~5MPH AFTER AFTER BACKING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY OF OUR HOUSE ON A RESIDENTIAL PAVED STREET AND STARTING TO DRIVE FORWARD. THERE WERE NO NOISES OR WARNINGS UNTIL THE FAILURE OF THE CONTROL ARE OCCURRED. THE PHOTO OF THE WHEEL SHOWS IT PUSHED BACK ALL THE WAY TO MAKE FRAME CONTACT. THE OTHER PHOTOS SHOW THE CONTROL ARM COMPLETELY DISCONNECTED FROM ITS MOUNTING POINT. THERE WAS SOME DAMAGE TO THE WHEEL WELL LINER AND LIP OF THE FENDER THANKS TO THE SLOW SPEED THAT IT OCCURRED. THE CAR HAD TO BE DRIVEN BACKWARDS ONTO A FLATBED TRAILER AND THEN DOLLY'S PUT UNDER THE FRONT WHEELS IN ORDER TO GET THE CAR TO ROLL FORWARD INTO THE REPAIR SHOP. IT COULD NOT BE DRIVEN FORWARD AT ALL. THIS FAILURE IS VERY CONCERNING AND HAD IT OCCURRED AT HIGH SPEED COULD HAVE RESULTED IN INJURY.

IT LOOKS FAR MORE LIKE IT WAS CAUSED BY THE SUSPENSION COLLAPSE FORCING THE WHEEL UP AGAINST THE BODYWORK. THERE IS A RIDICULOUS NUMBER OF TESLAS SHOWING UP AS SALVAGE WRECKS. THE INSURERS WOULD PROBABLY PLACE THE BLAME ON TESLA HAVING A MECHANICAL DEFECT. IT IS MY BELIEF THAT TESLA IS MAKING DEALS WITH THE INSURERS AND OWNERS TO COVER UP THESE PROBLEMS. THE FIRE HAS BEEN HOT ENOUGH TO MELT METAL SO IT IS ALMOST CERTAIN THAT THE LITHIUM BATTERIES WERE THE SOURCE OF THE FIRE. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THE PROBLEMS WITH TESLA SUSPENSIONS AND ALSO THE ISSUE OF BATTERY FIRES. LITHIUM BATTERY FIRES BURN BURN EXTREMELY HOT, EMIT TOXIC FUMES, AND ARE DIFFICULT TO EXTINGUISH. I WAS DRIVING MY CAR TO WORK AND ACCIDENTALLY SCRAPED THE FRONT RIGHT WHEEL ON A CURB NEAR A ROUNDABOUT ON AN OLD/NARROW SEATTLE STREET (THERE WAS ONCOMING TRAFFIC AND PARKED CARS SO I HAD VERY LITTLE ROOM ON MY RIGHT AND MIS-JUDGED). THE PAINT ON THE WHEEL WAS PRETTY BADLY SCRAPED UP BUT OTHERWISE THE CAR WAS FINE (NO BODY DAMAGE) AND THE WHEEL HAD NO VISUAL STRUCTURAL DAMAGE (THE CAR'S ALIGNMENT WAS NOT AFFECTED). I CONTINUED DRIVING TO WORK WITHOUT ISSUE, INCLUDING 5-6 MILES ON THE HIGHWAY AT 60MPH. WHEN PARKING IN THE UNDERGROUND GARAGE AT MY OFFICE 20 MINUTES AFTER THE CURB INCIDENT, I TURNED THE WHEEL TO THE LEFT TO ADJUST MY CAR IN THE PARKING SPOT AND HEARD/FELT A RUBBING SOUND, FOLLOWED BY A LOUD CLUNK. THE FRONT RIGHT OF THE CAR DROPPED AND THE WHEEL FELL OFF THE SUSPENSION AND WAS WEDGED UNDER THE FRONT OF THE CAR. THE CAR WAS DISABLED AND HAD TO BE TOWED TO TESLA. GIVEN THE AMOUNT OF FORCE APPLIED TO THE WHEEL BY THE CURB AND THE LACK OF OTHER SYMPTOMS, IT SEEMS UNLIKELY THAT ANY NORMAL, STOCK SUSPENSION SHOULD FAIL AS IT DID WITH THIS CAR. IT APPEARS A BOLT ON THE LOWER CONTROL ARM SHEARED OFF COMPLETELY WHEN I WAS PARKING (AND HAD PROBABLY BEEN FATIGUED BY THE CURBING INCIDENT).

THE TESLA DEALER REFUSES TO DISCUSS THE MATTER - SIMPLY SAYING THAT THIS IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND INSISTING I FILE AN INSURANCE CLAIM. I HAVE ASKED TO SPEAK TO A SUPERVISOR - AND CAN NOT GET A REPLY FROM THEM. HERE IS A MODEL S IN THE JUNKYARD. THE AIR SUSPENSION HAS COLLAPSED AND THE BODY HAS SLUMPED SO LOW THAT THE WHEELS ARE JAMMED UP IN THE WHEEL WELLS. THE FRONT RH TIRE AND RIM HAVE BEEN DAMAGED. THE FACT THAT THIS IS A 2015 CAR SHOWS THAT THE DESIGN/MANUFACTURING DEFECT HAS NOT BEEN RECTIFIED. THE WHEEL AND TIRE ARE RELATIVELY UNDAMAGED. THE PATTERN OF FAILURE POINTS TO THIS WEAKNESS BEING THE CAUSE OF CRASHES AND NOT DAMAGE THAT OCCURRED AS A RESULT OF THE CRASH. FAILURE OF THIS PART UNDER BRAKING LOAD WOULD CAUSE THE CASTOR ANGLE TO GO BADLY WRONG AND CAUSE THE WHEEL TO VIOLENTLY SWING TO ONE SIDE. THE STEERING ROD IS FRACTURED IN MANY CASES AND IT IS LIKELY THAT THE SHARP END OF THE BROKEN ROD SPEARING INTO THE WHEEL RIM IS THE CAUSE OF SO MANY SLICED WHEELS AS SHOWN IN FLICKR ALBUMS. THERE IS ZERO DAMAGE IN THAT AREA OF THE CAR AND NO REASON FOR THE WHEEL TO BE SKEWED LIKE THAT. AN INVESTIGATOR THAT WAS UNAWARE OF THE STRING OF SIMILAR EVENTS MAY HAVE OVERLOOKED THE SKEWED WHEEL AND ASSUMED IT WAS JUST ANOTHER TAIL-ENDER ACCIDENT. A POSSIBLE SCENARIO IS THAT THE WHEEL SKEWED SIDEWAY AND CAUSED A SUDDEN STOP WITHOUT BRAKE LIGHTS COMING ON. THE FRONT STEEL SAFETY GIRDER IS UNDAMAGED SO THE SUSPENSION COULD NOT HAVE BEEN DAMAGED BY HITTING AN OBJECT. THE RIM AND SPOKES OF THE WHEEL ARE INTACT ALSO. THE CRASH(?) CAUSED A FIRE IN THE BATTERY PACK. I BELIEVE THESE CARS POSE A SERIOUS RISK TO THE DRIVER AND OTHER ROAD USERS.

PLEASE NOTE: I HAVE SUPPLIED THE VIN OF A DIFFERENT CAR IN ORDER TO BE ABLE TO FILE THIS REPORT. I HAVE ALSO SUPPLIED A MADE UP ADDRESS BUT ONLY BECAUSE I NEEDED TO SO AS TO COMPLY WITH THE WEBSITE REQUIREMENTS. I HAVE REPORTED PREVIOUSLY THAT THE SUSPENSIONS OF THE TESLA MODEL S HAVE A DESIGN WEAKNESS. HERE IS FURTHER PROOF. THIS REPORT WAS POSTED ON THE TESLA MOTOR FORUM TODAY AND SHOWS A PHOTOGRAPH OF A CAR WHOSE SUSPENSION HAS COLLAPSED AFTER RUNNING OVER A POTHOLE. THIS POTHOLE WAS NOT BAD ENOUGH TO DAMAGE THE CAR, THE WHEEL OR THE TIRE BUT THE SUSPENSION HAS COLLAPSED AND CANTED OVER AT A SEVERE ANGLE. (I'VE SAVED A COPY) POTHOLE IN VIDOR TEXAS TOOK THE P85 DOWN THIS WAS GOING TO BE AN AWESOME ROAD TRIP NOTE, BUT UNFORTUNATELY INSTEAD IT'S A TALE OF CAUTION. ON MILE ~800 OF THE TRIP, WE FOLLOWED THE GPS DIRECTIONS TO GET OFF THE HIGHWAY TO SKIP SOME TRAFFIC. UNFORTUNATELY THE EXPECTED ON RAMP WAS CLOSED, SO WE ENDED UP ON A POORLY MAINTAINED STRETCH OF FEEDER ROAD JUST OUTSIDE VIDOR. RIGHT AFTER THE FORCED U-TURN SO WE DIDN'T END UP IN THE NECHES RIVER, I AVOIDED A POTHOLE ONLY TO HIT ANOTHER... AND THIS ONE WAS BAD. SO BAD, IN FACT, THAT WE BECAME ONE OF THREE CARS WITH OUR HAZARDS ON RIGHT AFTER IT DUE TO DAMAGE TO THE CARS. I THOUGHT I HAD POPPED A TIRE, BUT WHEN I GOT OUT, IT WAS MUCH WORSE. MY REAR PASSENGER TIRE IS NOW AT SUCH A STRONG CAMBER THAT IT IS RUBBING THE WHEEL WELL.
