Tesla designed a combined headlight with no serviceable parts. This includes headlights, high beams, and namely daytime running lights. All of these components are on an LED strip that apparently has a tendency to overheat and fail prematurely. For example, the replacement cost for a portion of the daytime running light (on one side) is over $1,000. This is apparently a known weak point and should be addressed.

Unknown. Both left and right daytime running lights are failing. Problem started about two months ago. The bright LED lights are slowly turning an amber color. Daytime running lights are part of the assembly of the headlight so all headlight and daytime running light would have to be replaced just to fix the daytime running light problem. I use daytime running lights for safety reasons while driving.

Some owners have reported as little as 3 months of life before failing. The daytime running lights are essential for safety. The repair is a big cost to car owners with no recourse to fix the headlights themselves at a fraction of the cost the manufacturer charges to replace at their service center. This is a serious safety issue for drivers.

The tail light flooded during rain and the tail light would not turn on. I was notified of this issue after an officer pulled me over and gave me a notice. There were no warning signs. In search of the issue online, it appears that it is a very common issue with the Model S tail lights.

My Tesla is under a recall for bad memory. My Tesla constantly reboots. I often have to wait several minutes from when I get in the car until it is ready to drive with all functions. I sometimes am forced to drive with the center screen not working. This takes away my backup camera. A required safety feature. Tesla says the part is not available. I request a reliable loaner until they get the part repaired under recall.

The eMMC failure of Tesla Model S/X manufactured from 2012 to mid 2018 has forced Tesla to issue a recall to replace the aforementioned eMMC chip. A failure in that chip means the AC controls stop working, as well as some lightning signals and the rear camera. I experienced the failure before Tesla issued a recall, when my vehicle had ~29000mi. Since the vehicle was not safe to drive, I did the repair myself: I bought an eMMC chip, I took out the Tegra daughterboard from the vehicle and brought it to an specialized electronics shop, they replaced the eMMC chip and I copied the contents of the old memory chip into the new one. Once Tesla offered the recall, they also offered a reimbursement for those who had paid out-of-pocket for this repair through an online form. I filled the online form, uploading invoices for the eMMC chip and the electronics repair shop work, but they denied my reimbursement. Because of that, I feel that Tesla has NOT honored the recall in my case.

This automobile has had the Tesla recall completed, replacing the 8GB with the 64GB. However, this fix is temporary and after a few months the control and information screens are malfunctioning and with ever-increasing frequency. I understand Tesla’s recent update ensures basic driving functions will continue to be operational during a screen blackout but it’s at best distracting and at worst plain dangerous depending on how lights/HVAC are set prior to the screen freeze, not to mention distractions associated with a sudden loss of navigation and an inability to control other components. As a frequent highway driver this is dangerous, even after experiencing various versions of this event. Per Service Dept., the only existing actual (non-temporary) repair for this is replacement with the newer version of the MCU, yet Tesla insists on using language as a loophole, calling the MCU2 an upgrade- which it was, but now as the sole remedy to restore previously existing functionality and safe operation of the effected vehicles, this should not be categorized as an option or an upgrade. Owners should have a better course of action than having to pay for an unwanted “upgrade” to regain original functionality.

I AM SURE YOU ARE AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM WHICH WAS JUST ANNOUNCED FOR RECALL - CENTRAL MCU UNIT CAUSES BLACK SCREEN WHICH STOPS MAJORITY OF CAR FUNCTIONS TO OPERATE. HOWEVER - HERE IS A NEW TWIST! MY UNIT WAS REPLACED 2 WEEKS AGO AND WITHIN 48 HOURS THE PROBLEMS ONGOING BLACK SCREEN PROBLEMS RE-APPEARED TWICE (PLEASE, SEE ATTACHED IMAGE). BROUGHT BACK THE VEHICLE TO TESLA REPAIR CENTER AND AFTER A WEEK TESLA'S RESPONSE - "WE RESET ERRORS AND YOU ARE ALL SET". THESE ORIGINAL MCU1 UNITS ARE FLAWED AND ARE A DANGER TO DRIVERS BECAUSE PROBLEMS CAN HAPPEN ANY TIME - WHILE YOU ARE DRIVING, BACKING-UP, PARKING OR CHARGING. THESE ISSUES CANNOT BE RECTIFIED ON THE ROAD AND ARE A TOTAL HAZARD. REPLACING ONE DEAD MCU1 WITH ANOTHER ONE IS SIMPLY DELAYING THE INEVITABLE. EACH TIME, I LOST CONTROL OF THE TOUCH SCREEN, WHICH CAUSED THE LOSS OF REAR CAMERA VIEW, AC, LIGHT AND DRIVE CONTROL, ETC., ESPECIALLY THE FOGGED UP ON WINDSHIELD. THIS IS A DANGEROUS ISSUE. I SENT MY CAR TO TESLA SERVICE CENTER (TSC) IN MATTHEWS, NC ON 1/16/21 AND THEY REFUSED TO REPAIR MY EMMC AS MY CAR'S INSTRUMENT SCREEN COULD RESTART UP AND WAS NOT COMPLETELY DEAD. ANDY AT TSC TOLD ME THAT I'D HAVE TO WAIT FOR MY CAR TO DIE COMPLETELY AND TOUCH SCREEN BECOMES DEAD AND CANNOT BE RESTARTED IN ORDER FOR THEM TO SERVICE IT UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTEE. I'VE BEEN HAVING ONGOING ISSUES WITH THE MCU/ TOUCH SCREEN. I WAS DRIVING EARLY MORNING ONE DAY WHEN IT WAS STILL DARK OUTSIDE. I WENT TO TURN ON FOG LIGHTS AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE HEADLIGHTS TURNED OFF AND THE TOUCH SCREEN FROZE ON ME. I HAD NO WAY OF TURNING THE HEADLIGHTS BACK ON AND HAD TO DRIVE IN THE DARK WITHOUT KNOWING WHAT IS AHEAD OF ME UNTIL I STOPPED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THEY DID REPLACE THE MCU, HOWEVER I'VE STILL BEEN HAVING ISSUES WITH THE TOUCH SCREEN. I DON'T HAVE FULL CONFIDENCE IN THE SYSTEM. HOW DO I KNOW THIS WON'T HAPPEN AGAIN?

IN SEPTEMBER OF 2018 I NOTICED ONE OF THE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS STARTED TO GO OUT. I TOOK THE CAR TO TESLA AND THEY REPLACED THE HEADLIGHT. SHORTLY AFTER THE OTHER SIDE DID THE SAME THING. AGAIN THEY REPLACED THE HEADLIGHT. THEN IN JUNE OF 2019 ONE OF THE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS WENT OUT AGAIN. IT WAS REPLACED AGAIN. NOW I AM OUT OF WARRANTY AND BOTH DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS ARE GOING OUT AGAIN. THERE IS SOME DEFECT THAT CAUSES THEM TO BURN OUT. I FELT IT WAS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE THE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS ARE SUPPOSED TO DECREASE ACCIDENTS.

IT IS EMBARRASSING AND NOT A GOOD REFLECTION ON TESLA PRODUCTS TO HAVE TO WAIT 5 MINUTES TO MOVE YOUR CAR. SOMETHING IS WRONG. 10/2/2020 WHILE DRIVING ON I 40 NOTED THERE WAS A LACK OF TURN SIGNAL SOUNDS. NOTED NAVIGATION DID NOT SEEM TO BE UPDATING TO CURRENT POSITION. WHILE ON AUTOPILOT THE CAR STARTED TO DRIFT TOWARD AN EXIT. THE AUTOPILOT HAD DISENGAGED WITH NO WARNING SOUND' NOTHING. CONTINUED TO STEER MANUALLY. SCREEN WENT BLACK. AC STOPPED. AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES THE SCREEN REBOOTED. HAD TO RE-INPUT DESTINATION. 10/3/2020. WENT TO ASHLAND NC SUPERCHARGER TO TOP OFF BEFORE GETTING ON THE BLUE RIDGE PARKWAY. WAS ONLY GETTING 4 KW TO START FINALLY GIVING UP AFTER 30 MINUTES ACHIEVING A MAXIMUM OF 10KW. WHEN I UNPLUGGED I GOT A WARNING "REDUCED POWER, SYSTEMS SHUTTING DOWN. SERVICE REQUIRED. VEHICLE MAY NOT START". THE SCREEN WENT BLACK AND AFTER TIME FINALLY RESTARTED AND I WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE. LATER IN CHEROKEE NC THE SCREEN AGAIN REBOOTED AFTER CHARGING AT A J1772 STATION. 10/4/2020. WHILE DRIVING WITH ON I95 NEAR ST AUGUSTINE I NOTED THE LOSS OF TURN SIGNAL SOUND AGAIN. THE NAVIGATION WAS FROZEN AGAIN. AGAIN THERE WAS NO SOUND OR WARNING DISENGAGING OR ENGAGING AUTOPILOT. THE SCREEN WENT BLACK. THE AC WENT OFF. I OBSERVED THE TESLA T COME UP THEN THE SCREEN WENT BLACK AGAIN. THEN THE TESLA T CAME UP A SECOND TIME AND AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES THE CONTROLS STARTED WORKING AGAIN. AGAIN AT NOV 19@ 7:03 PM: DRIVING WEST IN I-4 STANFORD, FL. SAME AS ON 10/2. NO RESPONSE TO RADIO SELECTIONS. 10 MINS LATER THE RADIO CAME ON AT A VERY LOUD VOLUME, BUT UNABLE TO REDUCE OR MUTE VOLUME. VOLUME MUTED AFTER 10 MINS. I REBOOTED THE DRIVER'S SCREEN, THEN THE CENTER SCREEN BEGAN TO REBOOT. THE TESLA SYMBOL APPEARED AND DISAPPEARED 4 TIMES OVER 5 MINUTES BEFORE THE CENTER SCREEN CAME ON. CAR UNABLE TO CONNECT TO CELL SERVICES FOR SEVERAL DAYS. 26NOV2020 DRIVING, ALL SYSTEMS APPEAR TO BE NORMAL ACCEPT THERE'S NO VOLUME, AND NO TURN SIGNALS. CENTER SCREEN WENT BLACK. CANNOT STOP VENTILATION. 4 HOURS AFTER PARKING CAR THE VENTILATION IS STILL ON, BUT THE DRIVER SCREEN SHOWS THAT THE VENTILATION IS OFF. CENTER SCREEN DOES NOT RESPOND TO REBOOT ATTEMPTS. BATTERY POWER GETTING LOW. FINALLY RECOVERED CENTER SCREEN AFTER 36 HOURS. 02DEC2020 CENTER SCREEN WENT BLACK AND DID NOT COME BACK ON. REQUEST FOR APPOINTMENT WITH TESLA MADE. EARLIEST APPOINTMENT IS 21DEC2020. HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO REBOOT CENTER SCREEN AFTER MANY ATTEMPTS. 12 DAYS LATER AND SCREEN IS STILL NOT RECOVERABLE. VEHICLE MAIN COMPUTER LAGS, REBOOTS, AND COMES UP WITH A BLACK OR GARBLED SCREEN REGULARLY, INCLUDING WHILE DRIVING, ESPECIALLY WHEN A USB STICK IS INSERTED AND/OR THE DASHCAM FUNCTIONALITY IS IN USE. TESLA SERVICE INSISTS IT IS A SOFTWARE ISSUE (FOR OVER 1 YEAR NOW) AND HAS TO DATE REFUSED TO REPLACE ANY HARDWARE DESPITE SPENDING SEVERAL WEEKS OF TIME ATTEMPTING TO FIX THE ISSUES. THE CAR HAS HAD 25 OVER THE AIR FIRMWARE UPDATES AND HAS UNDERGONE TWO SEPARATE COMPLETE FACTORY RESETS SINCE MY INITIAL COMPLAINT TO TESLA IN JULY 2019. SYMPTOMS PREVENT AUDIO FOR TURN SIGNALS AND AUTOPILOT FROM WORKING PROPERLY. PREVENT BACKUP CAMERA FROM OPENING OR DISPLAYING PROPERLY. MAKE USING THE BUILT IN NAVIGATION SYSTEM AND ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEMS DIFFICULT AND OFTEN DANGEROUS, CAUSING DRIVER DISTRACTION. WHEN THE MCU REBOOTS WHILE DRIVING IT TAKES NEARLY 15 MINUTES FOR THE NAV SYSTEM TO RESTART. MY TEGRA BASED MCU'S EMMC SHOWS ROUGHLY 2400 / 3000 AVG BLOCK ERASES, AND 81 RESERVED BLOCKS, NOT MEETING THE NEW THRESHOLDS SET BY TESLA ENGINEERING FOR REPLACEMENT (WHICH, FOR MY H8G2D APPRENTLY REQUIRE LESS THAN 65 RESVERED BLOCKS REMAINING). THE SYSTEM HAS REGULARLY SHOWN SQUASHFS ERRORS DUE TO CORRUPTED MEMORY.

THE CENTER SCREEN (INFOTAINMENT CENTER) WENT BLANK ON ME AND I COULD NOT CONTROL MAIN FEATURES. I COULDN'T CONTROL MY SUNROOF WHICH WAS LEFT OPEN TO VENT. I COULDN'T USE MY REAR VIEW CAMERA. ALL SENSORS WERE NOT WORKING. THE AIR CONDITIONING AND HEATER WAS MY WORKING AND I COULD NOT CONTROL THEM. DEFROSTER AND RADIO WERE NOT WORKING AS WELL. I COULD NOT CONTROL THE HEADLIGHTS AND CERTAIN DRIVING MODES.

THE MCU FAILED EARLY WHICH CAUSES THE ENTIRE CAR TO BE UNDRIVABLE. THE CAR WILL NOT UNLOCK AND THE DRIVER DOES HAS ACCESS TO THE VEHICLE. APPARENTLY THIS WAS KNOWN FLAW BY TESLA AND INSTEAD OF FIXING IT UNDER WARRANTY, THEY ARE CHARGING THE OWNERS $2000-$5000 TO REPAIR.

DRIVETRAIN, BRAKES AND STEERING SEEM UNAFFECTED. AT TESLA SERVICE THEY TRIED TO DIAGNOSE, AND ONE OF THE RESETS DISABLED TURN SIGNALS, WHICH IS A LEGAL ISSUE IN ADDITION TO SAFETY.
