I am reporting multiple safety-related defects on my 2017 Tesla Model S (VIN [XXX] ) that were present at the time of purchase but not disclosed by the selling dealer (Starling Ford, Titusville, FL). A certified independent EV repair facility (The Electrified Garage) inspected the vehicle on 11/17/2025 and documented the following safety defects: • failing/worn suspension components (control arms, thrust arms, cracked bushings) • torn sway-bar link boots • inoperative right-rear window regulator • driver window contacting internal wiring harness • moisture in the rear inner tail lamp • previous A/C drain blockage causing interior water intrusion These issues pose risks related to steering stability, electrical safety, visibility, and structural integrity. All of these conditions existed prior to the sale and were not disclosed. I am requesting NHTSA to log this complaint for federal safety review as these defects involve suspension, electrical moisture intrusion, and visibility issues that may impact the safe operation of the vehicle. Upon purchasing the vehicle, I discovered multiple critical safety defects that were not disclosed at the time of sale and were confirmed by an independent EV specialist (Electrified Garage). These defects include worn and failing front and rear suspension components (control arms, thrust arms, and cracked/damaged bushings), a failing sway bar link boot, and a malfunctioning window that makes contact with the internal wiring harness. The suspension defects create instability over bumps and uneven roads, producing clunks, shifting, and vibration that affect steering control and overall stability. These issues present a risk of suspension failure while driving, which could cause loss of control. The window/wiring contact also poses a potential electrical hazard if the harness becomes damaged. The independent inspection documented that these defects existed before I took possession of the vehicle. The dealer did not disclose any of these issues, and the defects were not visible during a standard test drive. I am reporting this because the suspension defects directly affect vehicle handling, safety, and crash-avoidance capability. I want NHTSA to be aware in case similar defects appear in other vehicles of the same model/year.

Car rattles when driven and makes loud sounds when going over bumps. Took to Tesla with 50k miles on it and they said it needs new air spring modules on front left and right. Did not do repair as it was over $3000. My car was built in the Fremont factory, the same as the cars in china that were recalled for the same reason. My car was a Tesla fleet car when I purchased it May of this year. Tesla had to know there was a problem and that’s why they wholesaled it to a different car dealership to be sold.

When getting into my vehicle for work, my vehicle appeared to be lopsided with the passenger side of the vehicle being considerably lower than the driver’s side. Luckily I noticed this right away and was able to back up safely into my parking spot. I brought it into the Tesla service center and they confirmed that the rear Suspension system/Air compressor/Air Spring Module on both sides are faulty and need to be replaced. They also stated that this was a “non-passenger facing alert” that they don’t believe was a new issue because I believe they stated the alert was visible 30 days prior when I had the vehicle in the service center for a different non-safety issue. After many days of research I see that this exact suspension issue thousands of Tesla owners more specifically Tesla owners of Model S/X years 2013-2018 see very frequently and in the state of California there was even a class action lawsuit due to this safety issue but for some reason there still has not been a recall? I believe that this on going suspension issue that Tesla has is a safety issue especially if traveling at higher speeds. This needs to be addressed sooner rather than later as it could lead to significant major safety issues if unaddressed.

In February 2022, I struck a downed tree limb which caused damage to my vehicle. The vehicle was repaired at a Tesla Service Center and the entire front suspension was replaced and paid for by my insurance. The car seemed to drive fine after this incident. In December 2023, I took the car in to a Tesla Service Center for an unrelated issue (the coolant level was low). After completing the service, I received a call from the service center stating that the service technician noticed that the vehicle was "swaying heavily to the right" and that it was not safe to drive. The service center performed diagnostic work and told me that the left fore link had detached from the ball assembly and that both the left and right fore links showed excessive wear. The service center initially told me that I would need to pay for this repair. Had them verify that the same components had been replaced recently and that only 6600 miles had been driven on the new suspension. After I told them that I would contact my insurance company, the service center quickly changed their tune, said they would cover the repair, and completed the repair within hours. Assuming their diagnosis was not fraudulent, and that the suspension was correctly replaced the first time, I find it deeply concerning that a key component of the suspension would fail after 6600 miles. I have copies of both service invoices and my chat history with the service center that I am happy to provide to substantiate this report. I was not able to attach them to this form so please contact me if you would like to obtain copies.

Left lower rear control arm is broken. Luckily it happened as I entered the garage. Could have been catastrophic on highway driving. There was no warning message of light.

As I was backing up out of a parking spot, I was turning the wheel when I heard a pop and a ugly grinding noise coming from my front driver side wheel well. Initially, I thought I ran over something, but did not observe and debris under the vehicle. I proceeded to slowly pull forward and continued to hear grinding, but not as bad. When I turned, the grinding continued. I got out again to observe that my wheel had caught the back half of my wheel well cover and ripped it off, sitting in the wheel well still. A firm tug pulled the cover from the well and I could see the wheel was not situated in the center of the wheel well. After contacting the manufacturer, they towed the vehicle and I learned that the control arm had snapped and they would need to replace the whole front suspension. They also noted a couple knicks under my carriage and very minor scrapes on my bumper and said that the failure was due to outside influence and, thus, would not be covered by my active warranty. They said I was in an accident which is completely false. After research, I presented numerous instances of control arm failure for the same year/model as my car at very low mileages, including recall for the same parts in China, but they still refused to cover the faulty part. There is an open class action lawsuit for the exact same parts because the manufacturer refuses to acknowledge the problem. I had to pay to upgrade the suspension system which they now use in the car as they obviously don't use the old faulty components when repairing. If this failure was at full speed on the freeway, I might have lost control of the vehicle and been killed and nobody would be the wiser after the disastrous accident. As there is only a recall in China for this part, I am forced to pursue legal action through court to recover the costs.

I was driving at low speed when I suddenly felt a very loud pop and snap. I thought I had a flat tire. The car pulled to the left. I had trouble pulling over and thought I was going to hit someone. I was able to come to a stop abruptly. I checked for a flat and had none. I called Tesla after limping the car home because I could not see a flat. The car had a broken control arm and had completely pulled the left wheel against the frame. Almost like I got something really hard but I hadn't. I had just pulled away from a stop sign when the snap took place. I was put at risk as well as my child. I couldn't control my vehicle. There were no warning messages. The vehicle was repaired by tesla and they didn't even call me to tell me what was wrong with it. I found out it was the control arm from the documents i was given.

On January 6, 2023 I was backing out of a parking space and turning slightly. There was a deafening squeal. The car did not initially make noise when driven forward, but the noise did return with braking, and then also with turning while in Drive. The Tesla service facility has advised that the car needs new lower control arm(s) and fore -links therefore also an alignment because of the new parts. Apparently they stock these parts, and this may be a bad sign. The car is currently being repaired at the Tesla service facility in Henrietta, NY. The car was built in January 2017 and we are the original owners. It currently has 59,883 miles.

The contact owns a 2017 Tesla Model S. The contact stated while driving approximately 45 MPH, the contact felt like the vehicle had fallen into a pothole; however, the rear passenger’s side wheel had detached. Due to the failure, the vehicle swerved to the left and then right. The contact then stated that he was able to navigate the vehicle off the road into a parking lot. The contact stated that the vehicle was towed to his residence and then towed to the dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the rear suspension failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 74,000.

While parking, i heard some noises underneath the front wheel area and turns out the tires are rubbing against the wheel well liner and the pins that were holding the wheel well in place were popping off. When driving off, i noticed the alignment was off and felt the car shifting around in a weird way so i pulled over into a parking lot and can see the liner nearly ripped off. Took it to the tesla service center and turns out the fore links on driver side is broken and also recommended the passenger side be replaced add it is starting to Crack. The car had 60k miles.

While reversing into a parking spot, like I have over 1000 times in this car, I heard a loud crack and scrape. When the tow driver got the car up we were able to see it was a Lower A-arm failure in outward loaded bearing stress. This seems like a common problem with these cars as a simple google search found many other drivers with similar issues.

The car was left parked for 12h in a parking lot were I work. Whilst driving there and upon exiting the car, nothing out of the ordinary was observed. Getting back in the vehicule, the car seemed ok. Upon backing up the car, a loud sound plus weird wheel camber on the rear driver's side wheel were observed. Upon verification, it looks like a tie rod broke. Given the condition (no excessive load on the car, car parked, not significant impact that we are aware of, the sudden break), it tends to point to a fatigue fracture.

The left fore link broke while backing out of a parking spot. It's not available for inspection. If it had broken at a higher speed it could cause a loss of control. This is a known issue. The broken fore link has been replaced by a non-Tesla repair shop. There was no warning this would happen.

When backing up at a low rate of speed (<10 miles per hour), I heard a loud grinding noise. When I got out of the car, I noticed that my driver's side wheel was out of proper position. Forward driving caused grinding or rubbing noises. When I took the vehicle in for service, I was quoted a repair for front fore links (lower control arms) for driver's and passenger side. Q: What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? A: Driver's side fore link. I'll ask for the replaced part to be returned. Q: How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? A: Minimal risk was observed as I was completing a parking maneuver in my own driveway. A failure at a higher rate of speed might have caused loss of control. Q: Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? A: Yes - by dealer Q: Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Vehicle was handling normally. I pulled into the parking lot of my bank, put vehicle in Park, and exited the vehicle to use the ATM. Within five minutes I returned to the vehicle, put it in reverse, and immediately heard a loud scraping noise like a plastic water bottle perhaps having become wedged between a tire and the wheel well. I stopped the car and looked underneath but all appeared normal. I continued backing up another three feet, again with the horrible rubbing noise. I exited the vehicle and more closely observed the right front wheel and tire, which the entire wheel/tire assembly appeared to be offset toward the rear of the car with the tire jammed up against the wheel well liner. I pulled forward into another parking space about ten feet away and called for a tow truck. After about ten minutes I observed brake fluid puddling around the tire. I Googled the symptoms and it said this was most likely failure of the suspension fore-link. This was confirmed by the dealer, who replaced the right and left front lower fore links, the wheel well liner and some other parts. Vehicle acted normally until the fore-link failed with no warning. Had this happened while driving on the freeway it would have likely shredded the tire and/or resulted in an accident. Vehicle had about 54,700 miles on it. I have NEVER had any suspension failure like this on any vehicle I have ever owned and several of my vehicles have been high mileage vehicles with over 200-300,000 miles on them.

while pulling out of our garage, the aluminum left hand fore assembly cracked and a piece fell on the driveway. The left front tire then rubbed up against the wheel well, which made the car undriveable.

Front driver’s side suspension fore link snapped while traveling at low speed(possibly while turning). Wheel slid back and hit rear wheel arch during braking, compromising braking & controllability of the vehicle. The car was inspected and repaired by Tesla. The car only has 60K miles, but I was charged nearly $700 to replace. No warning lights indicated a problem.

With no prior warnings while driving onto a main road with my wife and daughter I heard a thud in the rear of car at which time the car suddenly stopped. The driver's screen flashed "Suspension Failure". I could not drive the car to a safe location. I called local police who arrived and blocked traffic and my car was towed to nearby Tesla Service. The car has been at Tesla Service for past 11 days with no "diagnosis" and I received texts that they are awaiting parts and expect completion of repairs by evening of 7/26/2022.

The left front fore link assembly broke while I was driving approximately 30mph. See photo. The car made a bad vibration noise when braking or driving over a bump. I was barely able to drive it back home. The car did not have braking ability. I had to have it towed to the nearest Tesla Service Center (80 miles from my home). If this failure had happened at high speed, I imagine this could have resulted in an accident. I had the car repaired, and Tesla had a replacement part different from the original part, and also replaced the right side. It seems they are very aware of this part’s failure. Between the towing and repair, the total cost was approximately $1725.

Las Vegas,NV approximately 9:00AM an unknown motorist cut me off on surface streets. I had to apply brakes hard manually not in driving assist mode in an hard panic stop to avoid collision. When I resumed driving I heard crunching and scraping sounds coming from driver side front wheel. I pulled over and inspected an noticed tire was close to wheel well. I the drove carefully to nearby Tesla dealership. Problem was diagnosed as a fore link failure. It is important to note there was no impact whatsoever. I don’t think suspension components should fail after hard braking at approximately 40 mph.

The fore link on the front left wheel (driver side) seems to have snapped. It got disconnected from the wheel when parking the car. Steering became impossible with the wheel wobbling and causing strong grinding noises. I had heard strange noises and weird snaps before when turning the wheel to get out of my garage a couple of times over the past few months but the car seemed to drive fine so I didn't get worried further. When I went for brunch on Sunday (02/06/22) and pulled into the parking lot of the restaurant I heard strong noises and received shocks through the steering column and I knew something was _very_ wrong. I took a couple of photos (see attached) and noticed what seemed to be the problem (wheel control arm - fore link). I called a tow truck and was glad I didn't run into the issue while on the highway... Tesla is now has the car and is asking for $1,500 for 2 Fore Link assemblies... The car only has 36,000 miles and has been exclusively driven in Northern California (no rust or corrosion from the dry climate)

I backed out of my driveway and heard something loose from the front part of the car. It wasn’t concerning enough to stop, thought it might be something moving around in the frunk. I drove to an appointment 3 miles away, parked, took out the tow bar from the frunk. After the appointment, I backed out, once the wheel was turned fully, I heard a snap. I got out and looked at passenger front tire. It was in contact with the rear wheel well. I straightened the steering wheel to pull the car back into the spot, but the tire was still rubbing on the wheel well. It had to be towed to tesla service center. It was diagnosed as a broken suspension forelink. I believe this could have been very unsafe if I had been driving at higher speeds. I also wonder about my drivers side forelink as well, since that wasn’t replaced.

Reversing from my driveway it appears links or bolts on the steering and wheel suspension system failed. The wheels came into contact with the wheel cavity liner causing the steering to lock, the frame to protrude through the wheel cavity casing and the car to shut off or lock. The car is no longer safe to drive. The car is in my driveway, is available for inspection before I bring it back into Tesla for repair. Having just completed a highway drive, I dread to think what could have happened had this failure occurred on that journey at higher speeds. My car only has 40,000 miles and this issue or critical part failure appears to be premature. I have taken Video of the wheel moving independently to the car chassis structure. There was no warning in advance of the failure. I welcome an NHTSA or secondary inspection prior to repair by Tesla. I intend to deliver the car back to Tesla on 1/5/22.

While backing out of a parking space turning the steering I felt the car lurch and then heard a grinding noise from the left front tire area. Car was un-driveable and the front wheel moved forward and backward in the wheel well causing the tire to rub.

The contact owns a 2017 Tesla Model S. The contact state that while driving at slow speeds over minor bumps in the road, an abnormal clunking noise would emit from the vehicle. He also stated that as the failure was intermittent and that no warning light would appear on the instrument panel during the failure. The contact had taken the vehicle to a service center where a service manager requested to ride along with the contact to evaluate the failure. The service manager was able to diagnose the failure and the service center replaced the fore link assembly on the driver’s side as well as other parts on the suspension. The contact questioned why the passenger’s side fore link assembly was not repaired. The contact was informed that the passenger’s side had no visible damage. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle had been repaired. The failure mileage was 13,224.

I was parallel parking and as I was turning the steering wheel I heard a loud think. Without thinking too much about it, I continued to try to park and get my car out of the way. There began to feel pressure on the front tire so I got out to evaluate the issue. I saw that the tire was attached to the arch liner of the vehicle. I quickly ran back into the car to straighten out the wheel. I then noticed the car was able to drive but when applying the break, the tire would touch/move onto the arch liner. I called roadside assistance and when they arrived, we evaluated that the force link in the suspension snapped. He asked if I hit anything but there was absolutely no impact, contact, potholes associated with this break. It seems to be faulty mechanics. Thankfully I was parking and not driving on a highway.

Backing up into a parking space I heard a loud pop, soon after driving back home I noticed something felt loose on the LH side , come to find out my left fore link had snapped , my vehicle has low miles not even 25k and it snapped ! What if this would have happens at higher speeds! Supper scary! There needs to be a remedy to this!! RECALL!!

Reversing out of my driveway and front driver side suspension control arm broke. Wheel smashed into wheel well crumpling in some sections and damaging other car paneling. Car was unable to drive and partially blocked street until towed. No warning lights or errors were present before or after the incident. Vehicle has not been inspected by anyone yet. Safety was not greatly compromised aside, but had failure had occurred on busier street or higher speeds could have been catastrophic.

2017 Model S 75D, Suspension Defect. Pulling out of my garage, I heard a snap when I turned the steering wheel. I drove about 1 mile and could hear clicking. Did not receive an error message from the car, but I came back home and made an appointment with Tesla Repair. I tried to drive it to the appointment, but the entire front end of the car dropped and scraped as I pulled it out of my garage. I called Tesla Roadside assistance and had it towed to the Tesla repair shop. I never received any warning or messages from the car system.

The upper control arm was replaced by Tesla outside of warranty because, as mentioned by technician, "the upper control arm ball joint was rubbing metal on metal and will fail eventually". I initially noticed this when the wheels were squeaking loudly while turning the wheel. According to the technician, this has been a common issue on the car. I realize Tesla did a recall in China but not in US so I'm submitting this info in case the data is helpful for any potential recall in the future. Please contact me for videos.

My car with nearly 17,621 miles only had a part come off the suspension system off drivers side. Appeared to be an aluminum part that cracked in half while pulling from the garage. This car never was in a wreck. The suspension failed and my tire backed into the plastic casing which eroded the tires causing extensive damage. If this had occurred on the highway, this would have certainly caused a fatality to myself, family and other cars on the road. It appears this has happened to many prior owners of this vehicle, mainly model X and S around this time frame. I do not want to become a statistic before a recall is reached. As a physician, I am very concerned for my family and others that may be driving a dangerous vehicle.

FELT LIKE I HAD RUN OVER A NAIL WHERE THE FRONT OF THE CAR LIFTED UP SLIGHTLY, POPPED, SOUNDED LIKE A TIRE POP, BUT THEN WOULD CONTINUE TO DRIVE. I DROVE IT HOME, BUT COULD FEEL THE CAR WASN'T RIGHT. APPROXIMATELY ONE MONTH LATER, THE REAR SUSPENSION EXPERIENCED THE SAME FAILURE AND THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BY THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. I UNDERSTAND THERE ARE ATTEMPTS AT SOME LEGAL CLASS ACTION SUITS GOING ON. THEY REMOVED AND REPLACED BOTH FRONT LOWER FORE LINKS WITH UPDATED PARTS AND REPLACED DAMAGED LEFT FRONT WHEEL ARCH LINER AND SAID THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO 'METAL FATIGUE, MOST LIKELY ONSET BY THE SUDDEN BRAKING MANEUVER'. THE CHARGE WAS INITIALLY OVER $1,300, BUT AS SOON AS I MENTIONED MY KNOWLEDGE OF THE AFOREMENTIONED SUSPENSION PROBLEMS,TESLA IMMEDIATELY SAID THE ENTIRE COST WOULD BE COVERED AS 'GOODWILLL SERVICE'.

THE DEFECTIVE MCU WENT DOWN AND WHAT IS NOT BEING PROPERLY REPORTED, ESPECIALLY IN THIS PANDEMIC WORLD WE NOW LIVE IN, IS THAT BESIDES THE ENTERTAINMENT, THE AIR CONDITIONING (AND VIRAL HEPA FILTER), THE SUSPENSION HEIGHT, THE STEERING AND ACCELERATION PROPERTIES, NEARLY EVERYTHING IS NO LONGER ACCESSIBLE WHEN THE MCU FAILS BECAUSE TO THE DRIVER, THESE THINGS CAN ONLY BE ACCESSED AND MANIPULATED THROUGH THE CENTER CONSOLE, WHICH IS IN PERMANENT SHUT DOWN MODE. LOOK, I PERFORM FMEA ANALYSIS FOR A LIVING. THIS IS A SINGLE POINT FAILURE BEING CAUSED BY THE POOR DECISION TO SELECT AN MCU CHIP THAT HAS A LIMITED NUMBER OF DATA WRITES TO THE MEMORY, AND THAT CANNOT BE CLEARED OUT BY ANY SYSTEM DESIGNED INTO THE CAR. THIS IS COMPLETELY INSANE AND IS WITHOUT A DOUBT A SAFETY ISSUE, AS IT WAS 90 DEGREES THE DAY MY MCU FAILED AND DANGEROUSLY HOT INSIDE MY CAR, EVEN WITH ALL WINDOWS DOWN, WHICH ONLY GOT WORSE BECAUSE THERE IS SO MUCH THERMAL LOADS CREATED BY THE BATTERY, NORMALLY PROTECTED BY THE OVERHEAT SENSORS & FANS, THAT ARE NOW NOT OPERATING PROPERLY THANKS TO THE MCU FAILURE. IT ALSO IMPORTANT THAT YOU UNDERSTAND THE MOST OF THE NEED TO WRITE TO THE FINITE MCU & EMMU MEMORY IS CAUSED BY TESLA DURING THEIR FREQUENT SOFTWARE UPDATES. I JUST BOUGHT THE 2017 90D A MONTH AND HALF AGO AT 59K MILES NOW AT 65K MILES AND HEARD A POP AS I WAS PULLING AWAY FROM THE CURB AT 3-5 MPH. THERE IS A NOTATION ON THE REPAIR INVOICE THAT "FOUND BOTH FORE LINKS REVISION A'S. REPLACED BOTH FORE LINKS WITH REVISION B'S." I STRONGLY FEEL THAT THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN A RECALL, AS I FIND MANY BLOG ENTRIES WHERE THE SAME PART HAS FAILED OVER THE PAST FEW YEARS AND TESLA REPLACED THE ONE THAT HAD NOT FAILED WITH THE NEW REVISION.

I LOOKED AND SAW THAT THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL LINER WAS BROKEN AND COLLAPSED AND THE TIRE WAS RUBBING ON THE WHEEL WELL. I PUSHED THE LINER INTO PLACE AND DROVE DIRECTLY TO TESLA SERVICE (3 MILES AWAY) NOTICING MY BRAKES WHERE SLIPPING WHEN APPLIED. ON ARRIVAL THE TECHNICIAN INFORMED ME MY LEFT FRONT CONTROL ARM WAS BROKEN AND ASKED ME IF I HAD BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT. I TOLD HIM NO, AND HE SAID THEY WOULD NEED TO ELEVATE THE CAR TO LOOK AT EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED. THE LEFT CONTROL ARM FORE LINK HAD SPONTANEOUSLY FAILED. TESLA FIXED BOTH THE FAILED LEFT AND THE INTACT RIGHT UNDER WARRANTY ALONG WITH THE WHEEL LINER, ALIGNED THE CAR AND IT IS NOW RUNNING NORMAL. I HAVE SEEN MANY COMPLAINTS OF THE PREMATURE FAILURE OF THE FORE LINK ASSEMBLY IN THE MODEL S AND BELIEVE THIS IS A SYSTEMIC PROBLEM.

AS I DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL, THERE WAS A LOUD GRINDING NOISE EMITTING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. I PULLED THE VEHICLE OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND CALLED TESLA ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE. I ADVISED THEM OF MY OBSERVATIONS AND WAS ISSUED A PRELIMINARY DIAGNOSIS OF DEBRIS IN THE BRAKE CALIPER. I PROCEEDED TO DRIVE MY CAR TO A HIGH-PRESSURE WASHING STATION TO REMOVE THE DEBRIS. WHILE PARKING AT MY DESTINATION, I NOTICED MY STEERING WHEEL REQUIRED A BIT MORE FORCE TO DURN THE WHEEL; AS I WAS ENCOUNTERING MORE RESISTANCE THAN USUAL WHILE STEERING THE VEHICLE. I GOT OUT AND LOOKED AT THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE WHEEL WHILE THE STEERING WHEEL WAS TURNED ALL THE WAY TO THE LEFT. I NOTICED A HOLE APPROXIMATELY 2' TALL AND 1' WIDE HAD BEEN WORN THROUGH THE WHEEL WELL LINER BEHIND THE REAR OF THE TIRE. THROUGH THE HOLE, I SAW SOME WIRE COVERINGS AND A PIECE OF THE VEHICLE'S ALUMINUM FRAME. I ALSO OBSERVED THE WHEEL WOULD RUB UP AGAINST THE EXPOSED METAL FRAME WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL WAS TURNED. I CALLED TESLA ROADSIDE AGAIN AND UPDATED THEM OF MY FINDINGS. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE SERVICE CENTER AND SUBSEQUENTLY DIAGNOSED WITH A BROKEN FORE-LINK ON THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE SUSPENSION. THE FORE-LINKS ON BOTH SIDES OF THE VEHICLE WERE REPLACED, AS WELL AS THE WHEEL WELL LINER.

THE FRONT LH SUSPENSION HAS COLLAPSED COMPLETELY WITH THE WHEEL JAMMED RIGHT UP IN THE WHEEL WELL. EVEN THOUGH THE REAR LH OF THE CAR HAS BEEN HIT THE LH REAR WHEEL IS ALMOST UNDAMAGED. IT SEEMS UNLIKELY THAT THE WHEEL COULD HAVE WITHSTOOD AN IMPACT HARD ENOUGH TO CAUSE THE SUSPENSION TO BE DAMAGED SUFFICIENTLY TO SKEW THE WHEEL SIDEWAYS IN THE MANNER SHOWN IN THE PHOTOGRAPHS. IT SEEMS HIGHLY LIKELY THAT IT WAS THE COLLAPSE OF THE SUSPENSION AT THE FRONT AND REAR WHICH CAUSED THE TESLA TO SUDDENLY SLOW DOWN AND THEN GET HIT BY A FOLLOWING VEHICLE. THERE HAVE BEEN DOZENS OF CASES IN WHICH THE TESLA SUSPENSION HAS COLLAPSED CAUSING UNEXPECTED SUDDEN DECELERATION AND LOSS OF CONTROL. IT SEEMS HIGHLY PROBABLE THAT THIS CRASH WAS ALSO CAUSED BY A SUSPENSION FAILURE. THE DESIGN OF THE TESLA SUSPENSION IS SUCH THAT IT LACKS LIMIT STOPS. A TESLA OWNER IN ENGLAND HAS JUST POSTED ON THE TESLA MOTORS CLUB FORUM THAT THE BOLTS SNAPPED ON HIS FRONT SUSPENSION AND THE CAR FELL TO THE GROUND. THE THREAD HAS NOW BEEN DELETED FROM THE FORUM BUT I HAVE RECOVERED IT FROM GOOGLE CACHE. SNAPSHOTS OF THE THREAD AND IMAGES OF THE BROKEN BOLTS ARE ATTACHED. IT IS A CERTAINTY THAT THERE IS A BAD BATCH OF SUSPENSION BOLTS THAT ARE SNAPPING WITHOUT ANY GOOD REASON. THE ALLOY SUSPENSION PARTS AND/OR THE ALLOY WHEEL WOULD BE EXPECTED TO FAIL BEFORE A CRITICAL STEEL BOLT DOES. IN A NORMAL CAR IT IS POSSIBLE TO SPIN 360 DEGREES EVEN ON A DRY ROAD AND TO CAUSE THE TIRES TO SMOKE. THIS WOULD NOT CAUSE THE SUSPENSION OF ANY MODERN CAR TO SNAP. IN THE EVENT OF A TESLA HAVING TO SWERVE AND/OR BRAKE HARD THE FORCE ON ANY OF THE WHEELS COULD EASILY BE IN EXCESS OF 1 TON. TO PROVIDE A REASONABLE MARGIN OF SAFETY THE SUSPENSIONS SHOULD BE CAPABLE OF WITHSTANDING AT LEAST A 2 TON FORCE. LOOKING AT THE FLIMSY CAST ALLOY PARTS AND THE BRITTLE FRAGILE BOLTS IT IS BLINDINGLY OBVIOUS THAT THERE IS INSUFFICIENT FACTOR OF SAFETY. ON MONDAY MORNING(29.01.18) MY TESLA BROKE DOWN. THE DRIVER'S SIDE REAR TYRE DISLODGED FROM THE SUSPENSION WHILE I WAS REVERSING INTO MY BAY. THE ISSUES BEGAN FROM THIS POINT 1 AT ONLY 4526 MILES AND 122 DAYS OF AGE, ENDING UP WITH 3 WHEELS IS SIMPLY UNACCEPTABLE. 2 THEN ENSUED THE CONFUSION: I HAD TAKEN BREAKDOWN COVER FROM MY INSURANCE COMPANY INCLUSIVE OF COURTESY CAR. THIS WAS DESPITE THE SALES PITCH RECOMMENDING TESLA ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE. THE MOMENT I CALLED TESLA IT WAS A CASE OF FIGHTING WITH THEM REGARDING WHOSE FAULT IT WAS RATHER THAN WHAT HAPPENS NEXT. I DIDN'T FEEL SUPPORTED AT ALL. TESLA SERVICE AND ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE WERE CONFIDENT THAT THIS WAS A CASE FOR THE INSURERS 3 SO I CALLED MY INSURANCE COMPANY . THEY QUICKLY PICKED UP THE CAR AND HAVE DELIVERED THE SAME TOTESLA MANCHESTER SOUTH, WHERE I HAD PURCHASED IT. WITH A PARTING SHOT THAT IF THIS RECURS IN THE NEXT 28 DAYS THEY WILL NOT HELP. 4 HENCE AS I AM SURE YOU WILL UNDERSTAND, I HAVE BEEN LEFT BY TESLA ON THE WAYSIDE, QUITE LITERALLY AND FIGURATIVELY. IT HAS BIO-HAZARD STICKERS WHICH MEANS THAT OCCUPANTS HAVE BEEN INJURED. THE CAR IS BADLY DAMAGED AND I HAVE NO KNOWLEDGE OF THE CIRCUMSTANCES OF THE CRASH. HOWEVER, GIVEN THE MANY OTHER CASES OF SUSPENSION FAILURES IN THE TESLAS IT IS A LEAST A POSSIBILITY THAT A SUSPENSION FAILURE DID CAUSE A LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. VEHICLE CRASHES ARE AN EVERYDAY EVENT AND IT IS LIKELY THAT THE INVESTIGATORS AT THE SCENE WERE UNAWARE THAT THERE HAVE BEEN SO MANY CASES OF TESLA SUSPENSION FAILURES AND THAT SHOULD LOOK VERY CLOSELY AT THE CIRCUMSTANCES OF THIS CRASH TO SEE IF THIS MAY HAVE BEEN A FACTOR.
