The electronic power steering (EPS) is struggling, requiring increased driver effort to steer. This seems to be dangerous when driving. The Full Self Driving (FSD) capability also stops abruptly when the steering locks up. Again, this is very risky and can cause serious accidents. I see that several owners have posted on social media about this same issue. Note, that there were recalls issued related to corroded steering bolts for Tesla Model X built up till November 2016. My car is built in 2017.

Power Steering Assist stopped working while on the road. A couple days later, power steering stopped working completely.

Jun 17, 2025

The Monitor Screen in the middle of the car is not malfunction. It's not working. All the panels on the steering are also not work. the honk is not working. Nothing is working. It could be due to the internet connection.

I own a Tesla Model X, and for the past two summers I’ve experienced a repeating safety-critical issue during hot weather. After driving for a period in the heat, multiple systems begin to fail. The car displays numerous warnings including: •“Parking brake requires service” •“Traction control disabled” •“Stability control disabled” •“Steering assist reduced” •“Automatic Emergency Braking unavailable” •“Regenerative braking unavailable” •“Lane Departure Avoidance unavailable” When this happens, the steering wheel becomes very stiff and hard to turn, which severely affects my ability to drive and control the vehicle. I’ve brought the vehicle to Tesla service twice. The first time (when it was still under warranty), they said they couldn’t replicate the issue. The second time, I brought it in while the warnings were still active. Tesla only cleaned some sensors and returned the car, but the issue returned again recently with all the same symptoms. This only happens in hot weather. Once the car cools down, the errors disappear. This intermittent issue is difficult for the service center to replicate, but it presents a serious safety risk, especially because steering and braking functions are compromised. I believe this is a deeper electrical or software issue affecting multiple safety systems under thermal stress. The issue has not been resolved, and the vehicle remains dangerous to drive in high temperatures.

The power steering failed sporadically and it could return to normal state after power off/reset or the errors could be latch on for days. When the power steering reduced errors message occur, the steering wheel is too heavy for any turn, we lost steering and went over to the opposite lanes (fortunately there was no on coming traffic). The car needed a tow to the service centre.

Aug 15, 2024

When I started my car this morning it was very hard to return the wheel to center after full turns. The wheel is sticking in turn position and requires a lot of muscle to turn. It is unsafe to drive and power steering didn’t return after reboot.

Tesla has failed to update the software on the car as per the recall notice. Tesla is requesting me to pay 2500$ to upgrade the hardware so they can update the recall hardware. I had reached out to Tesla more than three different times and been waiting for more than 4 months for Tesla to provide the resolution for recall which Tesla has failed to provide as yet t no cost. This is a major safely concerns and due to this I am afraid to drive this car.

This year Tesla has a known "acceleration shutter" due to the front CV joints' angle being too sharp causing premature wear. I have been dealing with this issue since the vehicle was new. Tesla has replaced my CV joints 5-7 times and during the repairs they have left bolts out of the vehicle, left bolts loose and damaged the front drive unit so much by bad repair jobs they have had to replace the front drive unit twice. In the most recent episode, the motor mount has cracked and was making a loud banging noise under acceleration and declaration. Most concerning is the fact I found some brake lines not in their keepers and they were rubbing on this mount. (I have photos). I have had my vehicle at 3 different Tesla service centers and at least two are inadequate. My concern, especially with the loose and missing bolts, is the sense of bad workmanship which could lead to a real problem in the future. I have, myself, fixed the brake line issue and tightened the motor mount bolt and the car is fine but don't know what else is not done properly, so I will be asking a service center (over , 100 miles away) to please check to make sure there isn't anything else loose due to the front drive unit being replaced. I also have another bad half shaft which was replaced about 10,000 miles ago back in October of 23'. I have pictures of all this nonsense if you are interested. But again, my concern is what if they leave something important loose that can kill someone. I've had many episodes of shoddy workmanship from two different service centers. Hundreds of miles apart. It appears to be either a training or culture issue. The jury is still out on the 3d service center, but it's not looking good at the moment.

The steering as getting harder and harder to turn. I checked the steering rack and it was clean but the U joint had completely rusted. I lubricated it and the steering improved. After around a year, it happened again and I repeated it. They have an upgraded replacement part but are not recalling the defective original. Can you help?

Apr 22, 2024

The universal joint is stiff and turning vehicle is more difficult than normal

Apr 10, 2024

The steering has squeaking noise and cause the car every hard to turn. when trying to turning the car, the steering wheel will cause the car go another direction. This issue seems on tesla forums. I replaced control arms in august 2022 and I replaced again in April 2024.

Power steering issue

Mar 16, 2024

My steering feels as though it suddenly loses power steering for some portions of wheel turn. It was really dangerous when my wife was driving, since she had a really hard time turning the steering wheel. She called me and I drove it home and eventually determined the issue. The U Joint that is part of the steering mechanism open to the elements and has collected gunk and rusted. Tesla has re-engineered this part to be protected, presumably due to this issue. The suddenness in which this occurred is what makes this dangerous. One day the steering worked perfectly fine and the next it was very challenging to steer.

This part was recalled on older tesla model x. This seems to be an issue on my 2017 model as well and should be part of an extended model year recall. The Lower Steering Column I-Shaft is corroded resulting in extremely difficult to steer which could result in a severe accident and fatalities. This was recognized in a previous recall of older model years and this recall should be extended to newer model years. SB-20-32-004 Page 1 of 3 _ Tesla, Inc. This is regarding two Tesla recalls: - NHTSA Recall Number: 23V-838; TC2023-657 - NHTSA Recall Number: 24V-051 As noted in both recalls, they are to be delivered via software updates. My car is currently running version 2022.8.10.16 7477b4ff8e78 which is clearly lower than the version required for both recalls. I have taken my car to service as my software version is not updating. Tesla has refused to comply with the recall and update the software version on my car. It should be noted, although irrelevant for the recalls, that my car is still under manufacturer's extended warranty, which we purchased along with the car when buying it new from Tesla.

Front Suspension Lower Fore Links, yes it is available for inspection. The incident occur while driving the vehicle; which is ground for significant safety risk. The vehicle is in the process of getting towed. Vehicle has not yet been inspected. No warning signs, the vehicle just came out of Tesla Service Center.

Nov 4, 2023 Crash

The steering wheel was dysfunctional; the wheel was locked in the middle of the highway, and the car started to change lanes, causing a massive accident. There was a significant accident between my car and a truck; both cars were totaled. My airbags didn't open as well. I got a massive concussion, and I do not know about the condition of the other driver. There was a recall about the steering wheel, and we brought our car to the dealership, and supposedly they fixed the issue. There was no warning or message before the accident. The message appeared on my Tesla screen for the first time less than a few minutes before the accident.

Control arm and both front struts failed

Jun 1, 2023

The intermediate shaft - steering column is a design defect on these cars. A service bulletin has been issued (https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2020/MC-10177030-9999.pdf) but that is insufficient. This is a critical safety issue which could lead the driver to lose control of the vehicle. It felt like losing power steering and it required a lot of force to maintain steering control. Other owners have experienced this issue and posted their experience here: https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/threads/steering-u-joint-lower-shaft-issue-and-my-solution-so-far.212604/. Tesla has since redesigned this part with a CV boot to prevent corrosion and degradation of this critical joint. It is clear that the original design was flawed and all should be replaced immediately.

The contact owns a 2017 Tesla Model X. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed and attempting to make a left or right turn, the steering wheel became difficult to maneuver. The contact stated that the steering wheel intermittently performed as designed while driving straight. No warning lights were illuminated. The dealer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the VIN was not included in a recall. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 31,881.

When exiting an on-ramp on a freeway, the car suddenly veered to the left on its own, almost colliding into another vehicle. There was no dangerous activity nor any stopped cars anywhere around the car.

Oct 22, 2022

Without warning, my steering became extremely rigid. I did not receive any indicators on the dash to suggest there was a mechanical/electrical issue prior to this incident occurring and only found out while trying to make a turn at a T-intersection. Turning my vehicle at low speeds requires two hands - it's so difficult my wife will not drive the Tesla after almost crashing into a ditch. I've researched the issue and found that Tesla recalled 2016 and earlier Model X vehicles for steering issues. I've requested a diagnosis and repair from Tesla given this extremely unsafe steering failure. Unfortunately Tesla does not offer priority to safety related failures and my appointment was set out about three weeks. As of today's date, I still have a vehicle in my garage that is unsafe to drive due to this steering component failure and my appointment with Tesla in Raleigh isn't until November 3, 2022 at 8:15 am. My current mileage is 57,637. I'm willing to make the vehicle available for inspection, if needed, but it will have to be before the scheduled appointment as I need this vehicle fixed due to it being a primary family vehicle. I do have message between myself and Tesla but cannot upload them here. Thank you.

Sep 23, 2022

Starting on May 5, 2022, my car has been plagued with numerous errors messages that stated multiple features of my car were malfunctioning/disabled, both while I first got into the car, and also occurring suddenly without any warning while the car was IN MOTION on the road. This included loss of power steering, traction control, stability control, parking brake, automatic emergency braking, and lane departure avoidance . The same problem(loss of all these vital features) has recurred many times on May 22nd, May 31st, July 8th, and most recently, September 14th. Each time I brought the car in to the Tesla service center, they would have absolutely no idea what was causing the same exact issues. At the very first visit, they stated the incorrect-sized tires were likely the culprit. Even after the correct sized tires were put on, the same problems returned weeks later. Another time they replaced the MCU, but again the problem returned. Every time I brought the car in, they would basically return the car with no definitive repairs done as by the time they started working on my car, all the errors had disappeared, and they would declare the car as being "fixed". After 5 visits for the SAME EXACT problem over the past 5 months, it is extremely clear that Tesla has no idea what is wrong with the car, and keeps returning the car to me without permanently solving the problem. At this point, I feel this car should not be on the road as I could lose vital controls(power steering, brakes, etc) all of a sudden with no warning, exposing the passengers inside, and all vehicles and pedestrians around it to serious, life-threatening danger. Despite this grave risk, Tesla has refused to buy the car back even though it still has an active factory warranty, claiming that it is past the two-year buy-back window, and the fact that it already has a lemon title(for a completely different issue) from 2019. It is just a matter of time before a serious accident happens.

Jul 19, 2022

The car had no identifiable steering issues prior to this incident. On Saturday 7/16/2022 during a short, low-speed drive, steering effort suddenly became much higher during a turn, resulting in a near-miss. The steering would no longer self-center after a turn, and the vehicle was quite difficult to control in turns, requiring large turning force and with limited precision due to the force required to overcome the stiffness. Straight line driving was still relatively easy. Tesla repaired the vehicle three days later and retained the parts. The problem was described on the work order as 'Technician diagnosed the lower intermediate steering shaft joint was seized causing intermittent stiffness at certain degree of turn. Technician replaced the lower intermediate shaft and verified steering wheel is turning normally again.' The vehicle is now steering normally again after the part replacement. There are several threads on the Tesla Motors Club forum about others experiencing similar issues with the same part. The replaced part has a -A suffix indicating it has been revised. Others may yet experience this same dangerous failure of the original part if it has a design fault that Tesla corrected.

Jun 16, 2022

The steering, over three days has rapidly deteriorated. Working the steering wheel between +/- 15 degrees is fine. At 45 and 90 degrees there is significant resistance to turning. I believe the 2017 model is also prone to intermediate shaft U-joint failure.

Apr 15, 2022

We were experiencing very difficult turning at low speeds. No vehicle warnings occurred. We took the vehicle in to Tesla service for evaluation. We were told the vehicle was unsafe to drive and they would not allow us to take the vehicle home. They have had the vehicle for 3 weeks and have replaced the "steering column" or "Left-Hand Steering Gear" on service estimate, but in the process have not fixed the problem and are now on week 4 of the repair. In investigating steering issues with Tesla, there appears to be a recall issued for 2015 and 2016 model years involving the steering column. We believe the same issue is affecting our 2017 Model and is in need of a recall as well.

Model X 100D makes noise during driving whenever I turned the steering wheel. Took it at Tesla service center for service and concurred the my concern and replaced front upper Arm. The suspension contributed to brand new tires to wear out quickly in less than a year. Driver and passengers windows fails to close after opening regularly, Map navigation and live traffic data does not work properly. During car in reverse, rear view camera blanks out. Tesla service center could duplicate my concern.

Mar 15, 2022

While driving my model X on highway, making quick turns on the power steering wheel felt too stiff in order to avoid car or objects. I took it to Tesla service center for inspection and confirmed the issue with the suspension. The replaced Front suspension, lower -Aft-LH/RH. Parts they replaced, Washer cam, Bolt H cam, Washer, Nordlock, Front suspension AFT link, Nut CLN HEX, NUT HF & adjusted camber caster toe. MCU unit continuous crashes or freezing & slow response, web browser, map and slow response to access A/C, I had to pay to replace MCU unit.

Mar 15, 2022

Driving the model X has been difficult lately since the steering is extremely stiff. Tesla service scheduled me to replace intermediate 1st generation Shaft, steering column, lower dual motor. They will replace lower shaft on left hand drive & replaced steering I-shaft link upper.

Steering suddenly becomes challangeing, when operating on winding roads the steering wheel fails to easily return to normal and must apply more force than normal to bring back to straight direction. Generally balky at times.

The contact owns a 2017 Tesla Model X. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number 21V035000(Back Over Prevention, Visibility, Exterior Lighting) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The local dealer was contacted, and it was confirmed that the part was not available. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had experienced the failure and while operating the vehicle the display screen which included the backup camera would randomly malfunction causing the screen to freeze or turn black. Additionally, while operating the vehicle the power steering assist had malfunctioned causing the steering wheel to become difficult to turn in either direction. The cause of the failure was not determined. The failure mileage was 60,000.

Whenever I turn the steering wheel, the squeaking noise appear. I contacted the service center, without seeing my car, they know that I have to replace the both side front upper control arms which made me believe there is a well-known defect with it. The control arms plays very important role in steering the car, if there is a defect and Tesla won't recall it then it might kill someone after the driver can't control the car due to the defected upper arm.

The contact owns a 2017 Tesla Model X. The contact stated while exiting the driveway and attempting to make a turn, the steering wheel became difficult to maneuver. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The contact stated that the failure had been reoccurring and the steering wheel would continually go from difficult to maneuver to loose while driving. The dealer was not made aware of the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the dealer. The vehicle was repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 45,000.

The specific issue happen while I was I was pulling out of my driveway. The front passenger side suddenly started squeaking. After getting on the highway and accelerating, the car started shaking, and making louder and louder noises. Inspecting the assembly next to the front passenger side tire, I saw that the control arm assembly was making metal on metal contact and the wheel was not horizontally in place (it wiggles on steering). I took the car to the service center. They confirmed that the control arm assembly is corroded and that the issue could cause an accident if it happens while driving as I could lose steering control.

I'M NOT FROM THE US, BUT WANT TO LET YOU KNOW THAT THERE ARE ALSO SAFETY PROBLEMS WITH MODEL X CARS IN EUROPE. MY CAR, A TESLA X FROM APRIL 2017 WITH 93.682 KILOMETERS DRIVEN BROKE DOWN WITH A BROKEN SUSPENSION PART. THE WHEEL WAS MOVING FOR- AND BACKWARDS COMPARED TO THE VEHICLE. TESLA CALS THE PART FORE LINK ASSY LH (1041570-00-B). WHEN PARKING THE CAR IN REVERSE, THE FRONT A THE CAR CAME UP FOR 5 CENTIMETERS. IT HAPPENED ALSO DRIVING SLOWLY FORWARD. THE BIG RING ON THE END OF THIS PART (THE SITE THAT IS CONNECTED CLOSE TO THE WHEEL) WAS COMPLETELY TORN OPEN. TESLA ALSO HAD TO REPLACE THE LEFT AND RIGHT FR SUSP AFT LINK ASSY BECAUSE OF "WEAR AND TEAR". UPPER CONTROL ARM WERE ALREADY REPLACED IN JUNE 2020. REAR MOTOR REPLACED JANUARI 2018, ELECTRONICS FOR OPENING FRONT DOORS REPLACED IN MARCH 2020, NEW POWER STEERING APRIL 2020. I LIKE YOU TO INVITE THE ALSO LOOK AT SUSPENSION SAFETY ISSUES IN EUROPE WITH THE MODEL X AND S. THESE ISSUES HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH ROAD CONDITIONS, WE HAVE VERY NICE SMOOTH ROADS HERE IN THE NETHERLANDS. I MADE A VIDEO OF THE MOVEMENT OF THE FRONT LEFT WHEEL.

IN JUNE OF 2020, THE LOWER U-JOINT NEAR THE STEERING RACK ENCOUNTERED A FAILED BEARING MAKING THE CAR EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO TURN FOR 90 DEGREES OF STEERING WHEEL MOVEMENT, FREE FOR 90 DEGREES, HARD FOR 90 DEGREES, AND FREE FOR 90 DEGREES. THIS OCCURED AT APPROXIMATELY 68,000 MILES AND 2.5 YEARS OF OWNERSHIP. BEFORE THIS WAS DIAGNOSED, IT MADE THE CAR DANGEROUS TO DRIVE AND ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT WHEN MY WIFE WAS DRIVING WHEN IT FIRST OCCURED.

WE HAVE 2 MODEL X VEHICLES. THE 2017 X100D DEVELOPED SERIOUS BUMPING AND GRINDING ISSUES IN ITS LEFT FRONT STEERING RACK ASSEMBLY DURING SLOW TURNS. IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THERE WAS ZERO INDICATION OF DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE OR IMPACT TO THE VEHICLE FROM OUTSIDE FORCES. THERE WAS A LESS-THAN-PIN SIZED PUNCTURE TO THE RUBBER BOOT, VISIBLE ONLY BY SEVERELY STRETCHING THE RUBBER APART, AND THE LUBRICATING OIL WAS GONE. TESLA SERVICE CLAIMED THE PINHOLE SIZED DAMAGE TO THE STEERING RACK'S RUBBER BOOT WAS CAUSED BY OUTSIDE FORCES. I WAS CHARGED $1,600.00. GIVEN TESLA'S MODEL S RECALL FOR THE SAME ISSUES, I RETAINED THE MALFUNCTIONING STEERING RACK AND HAD IT INSPECTED BY 2 INDEPENDENT AUTO REPAIR SHOPS: WHEELWORKS AND AAMCO. IN BOTH CASES, WITHOUT REMOVING THE BOOT, THE OPINION OF BOTH AUTO REPAIR SHOPS WAS THAT THE PIN HOLE DAMAGE TO THE BOOT COULD DEFINITELY NOT HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY EXTERNAL FORCES. THE DAMAGE COULD ONLY HAVE RESULTED FROM INTERNAL DAMAGE TO THE STEERING COLUMN JOINT SPINNING OUT A SHARD OF STEEL, AND SUBSEQUENT EXTREMELY SLOW DRAINAGE OF THE LUBRICATING OIL. THIS TESLA HAD ITS 2 YEAR SERVICE PERFORMED ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO. TWO DAYS AFTER THIS STEERING ASSEMBLY REPAIR ISSUE, THE TESLA WAS AGAIN BACK IN THE REPAIR SHOP BECAUSE OF A LOUD CREAKING NOISE COMING FROM THE RIGHT FRONT END. TESLA MECHANICS ORIGINALLY THOUGHT IT WAS A CREAKING SEAT, AND THEN THOUGHT IT WAS A CREAKING SUSPENSION. IT WAS ULTIMATELY DETERMINED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS THE RIGHT FRONT UPPER BALL JOINT. THERE WAS NO LUBRICATING OIL IN THE PROTECTIVE BOOT, AND NO DAMAGE TO THE BOOT. THE BALL JOINT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THIS BALL JOINT WAS REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY, YET TESLA PERSISTS IN REFUSING TO REIMBURSE FOR THE $1,600.00 STEERING ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT NECESSITATED BY THE SAME ABSENCE OF LUBRICATING OIL, SIMILAR AGAIN TO THE MODEL S RECALL.

I HAVE BEEN ADVISED THAT IT IS PREFERABLE THAT OWNERS FILE THEIR OWN COMPLAINTS OF DEFECTS. UNFORTUNATELY THE OWNER OF THIS TESLA HAS NOT RESPONDED TO MY REQUEST THAT HE DOES FILE A COMPLAINT. THIS IS PROBABLY BECAUSE HE KNOWS THAT IF HE DOES COMPLAIN HIS TESLA MAY BE DEVALUED AND HE RISKS BEING BLACKLISTED BY THE COMPANY. THE ATTACHED PHOTOGRAPHS SHOW YET ANOTHER FRACTURED SUSPENSION ARM. THE OWNER IS IDENTIFIABLE FROM THE PHOTOGRAPHS AND IT WOULD BE VERY EASY FOR NHTSA TO CONTACT HIM AND OBTAIN THE BROKEN PART FOR INSPECTION. IT WOULD ALSO BE VERY EASY TO TRACE THE TESLA SERVICE CENTER RECORDS. HERE IS THE TEXT OF THE COMPLAINT THAT THE OWNER HAS POSTED ON TWITTER. HIS PHOTOGRAPHS OF THE FRACTURED PARTS ARE INCLUDED WITH THIS SUBMISSION. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS. IT IS NOT AN ISOLATED INCIDENT. HERE IS A COMPLAINT POSTED ON THE TESLA FORUM ABOUT A TOTAL LOSS OF POWER STEERING: HTTPS://FORUMS.TESLA.COM/FORUM/FORUMS/BROKEN-POWER-STEERING SNIP** MY WIFE CALLED TODAY TO TELL ME HER NEW TESLA X HAD AN ERROR LIGHT THAT SAID SERVICE AND POWER STEERING ASSIST MAY BE LIMITED. I CALLED MY LOCAL CENTER TO INQUIRE AS TO WHAT TO DO NEXT. I ASKED IF THE CAR WAS DRIVEABLE, AS AT THAT TIME THE STEERING SEEMED TO BE WORKING FINE. THEY SAID GO FOR IT, THEY'D LOOK AT THE LOGS AND GET BACK TO ME. SURE ENOUGH ON MY WAY HOME FROM AN ERRAND WITH MY 3 KIDS IN THE CAR, THE STEERING STOPPED WORKING. THANK GOD IT WAS ME DRIVING, AS THERE WOULD BE NO WAY MY WIFE WOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO TURN THE WHEEL AT ALL. I DROVE HOME CAREFULLY. AFTER SOME RESEARCH IT SEEMS THIS IS AN ISSUE SEVERAL OTHERS HAVE GONE THROUGH. MANY HAVE NOTED A LOOSE GROUND OR OTHER POWER CONNECTION ISSUE. I FIND IT UNBELIEVABLE THAT I COULD FIND THIS OUT IN A FEW MOMENTS ON GOOGLE, BUT WHEN CALLING TESLA SERVICE, THEY TOLD ME TO GO AHEAD AND DRIVE THE CAR. WHEN I CALLED THEM BACK, AND LET THEM KNOW THEIR ADVICE COULD HAVE KILLED ME OR AT LEAST GOTTEN ME INTO AN ACCIDENT, I DID NOT GET MUCH IN THE WAY OF A RESPONSE.** THIS SAME FAILURE IS BEING DISCUSSED ON MANY OF THE TESLA FORUMS. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLY DANGEROUS. PLEASE TAKE URGENT ACTION TO PROTECT LIVES. THANK YOU. CONCERNED CITIZEN.

THIS IS A COMPLAINT ABOUT THE TESLA AUTOPILOT. HERE IS A CREDIBLE AND EASILY VERIFIED REPORT BY A TESLA OWNER IN UK WHO HAS HAD A NEAR DEATH EXPERIENCE WHILE ON AUTOPILOT: HTTPS://TESLAMOTORSCLUB.COM/TMC/THREADS/AT-WHAT-POINT-DO-I-SAY-ENOUGH-IS-ENOUGH.100508/ ** A FEW WEEKS AGO, THE CAR WHILST IN AUTO PILOT SUDDENLY SWERVED ACROSS THE MOTORWAY INTO THE MIDDLE LANE. I CAUGHT IT HALF WAY ACROSS. THE MOTORWAY WAS PERFECT. (INTERESTINGLY AT A SUPERCHARGER, I ASKED THE GUY NEXT TO ME IF THIS HAD EVER HAPPENED TO HIM, AND HE SAID 'FUNNILY ENOUGH, IT HAD AND JUST THAT VERY DAY FOR THE FIRST TIME' (THAT'S NOT A COINCIDENCE SURELY) THIS WAS THE FINAL STRAW SO I SENT IT OFF. SAT NAV, AUTO PILOT, WONT LOCK, RETURNING TO CAR WITH DOOR OPEN, DOESN'T PRESENT DOORS SOME OF THE TIME, DOORS DON'T CLOSE SOME OF THE TIME, SCREEN GOES BLACK, ETC ETC ETC. IT ACTS WITH THE CONSISTENCY OF A SMALL CHILD, YET ITS SUPPOSED TO BE SOFTWARE DRIVEN. THE AUTOPILOT ISSUE IS MY BIGGEST CONCERN. THE GUY I SPOKE TO WHO SAID HIS HAD DONE THE SAME THAT DAY, SAID HIS DROVE TOWARDS A LORRY. I THOUGHT IT WASN'T SUPPOSED TO DO THAT AS IT HAS SENSORS? IT WAS VERY WINDY THAT DAY SO I WONDER IF THAT WAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH IT, EITHER WAY TESLA WERE SO CONCERNED ABOUT IT, THEY DIDN'T EVEN BOTHER TO TAKE THE DETAILS OF THIS GUY WHEN I RAISED THIS ISSUE TO THEM.** EVEN IF THE OWNER HAS HIS HANDS LIGHTLY ON THE WHEEL THE POWER STEERING HAS SUFFICIENT POWER TO WRENCH IT OUT OF HIS HANDS. THIS AUTOPILOT IS HALF-BAKED AND GLITCHY AND THE CONSTANT SOFTWARE TWEAKS ARE MAKING IT EVEN MORE DANGEROUS. NO OTHER CAR-MAKER WOULD BE ALLOWED TO CONDUCT SUCH A RECKLESS EXPERIMENT. PLEASE TAKE ACTION BEFORE MORE LIVES ARE LOST. THANK YOU. CONCERNED CITIZEN ETC.

THIS IS A COMPLAINT ABOUT THE TESLA AUTOPILOT. HERE IS A FRESHLY UPLOADED VIDEO: HTTPS://WWW.YOUTUBE.COM/WATCH?V=0JLLUPSVGJ4 THE OWNER DRIVES HANDS FREE ON AN UNDIVIDED ROAD WHILST USING BOTH HANDS TO EAT A BURGER. THIS IS NOT MERELY A CASE OF STUPIDITY IT IS A DIRECT CONSEQUENCE OF THE MARKETING OF AUTOPILOT BY TESLA. THE VERY NAME AUTOPILOT IS DANGEROUSLY MISLEADING, OTHER MAKERS CALL THEIR SYSTEMS "DRIVER ASSIST" OR "LANE-KEEPING ASSIST" THE WIDELY PUBLICISED CLAIM THAT TESLA AUTOPILOT IS 40% SAFER THAN A HUMAN DRIVER IS FURTHER ENCOURAGEMENT FOR OWNERS TO USE THIS IN A DANGEROUS FASHION. DURING THIS VIDEO THE CAR TAKES A SUDDEN SWERVE OVER THE CENTRE-LINE JUST AFTER THE OWNER HAS FINISHED EATING HIS BURGER. THE OWNER THINKS THAT THIS IS ALL A GREAT JOKE. I AGREE, TESLA AUTOPILOT IS A JOKE, BUT NOT IN A GOOD WAY. PLEASE STOP THIS DANGEROUS EXPERIMENT BEFORE MORE LIVES ARE LOST. I HAVE ATTACHED A PHOTOGRAPH OF A FATAL CRASH THAT HAS JUST HAPPENED IN CHINA. HTTPS://WWW.REDDIT.COM/R/TESLAMOTORS/COMMENTS/6RAUD3/ANOTHER_ACCIDENT_IN_CHINA_INVOLVING_AN_TESLA/?ST=J5Z9ZTCW&SH=61E3B47D IT IS POSSIBLE THAT THIS FATAL CRASH WAS CAUSED BY AUTOPILOT. PLEASE ASK TESLA TO PROVIDE FURTHER DETAILS AND ASK THEM TO PROVE BEYOND ANY DISPUTE THAT THE CRASH WAS NOT CAUSED BY AUTOPILOT. IT SEEMS THAT AFTER EVERY CRASH TESLA CLAIM THAT THE AUTOPILOT WAS DISENGAGED AT THE ACTUAL MOMENT OF IMPACT. WELL, THEY WOULD SAY THAT WOULDN'T THEY? PLEASE NOTE THAT I AM NOT THE OWNER OF THIS VEHICLE JUST A CONCERNED CITIZEN. DATES OF INCIDENTS ARE AN APPROXIMATION. DETAILS OF FATALITIES ARE AN ESTIMATE BASED UPON THE BLOOD AND BRAINS SPLATTERED OVER THE TESLA.

ON 4TH, JUNE, 2017, I WAS DRIVING THIS 2-MONTH-OLD TESLA MODEL X. WHILE I WAS MAKING A TURN AT ONE OF THE DOWNWARD PASSAGE IN A CARPARK, THE STEERING WHEEL COULD NOT MOVE ALL OF A SUDDEN, AND A WARNING POPPED UP SAYING CAR NEED SERVICE/STEERING ASSIST REDUCED. THEN A WHILE LATER THE STEERING WHEEL COULD MOVE AGAIN ALLOW ME TO FINISH THE TURN, BUT THEN STOPPED WORKING AGAIN LEAVING ME STUCK IN THE CAR PARK. THEIR TECHNICIAN REPLIED THAT THIS HAD HAPPENED TO A NUMBER OF MODEL X CARS BUT ONLY WHILE PARKED AND NOT DURING DRIVING. AFTER INSPECTION, THE TECHNICIAN REPLIED THAT THE POWER WIRE FOR THE ASSIST STEERING WHEEL HAS HAD BAD ELECTRICAL CONTACT. THIS WAS DUE TO A LOOSEN SCREW WHICH FIX THE POSITION OF THAT POWER WIRE. THE CAUSE COULD BE THAT THE SCREW IS NOT TIGHT BEFORE DELIVERY, OR DUE TO VIBRATION WHEN DRIVING ON THE ROAD. THEN THEY TOLD US THE SCREW IS NOW TIGHTENED AND THE CAR IS READY FOR PICKUP. I THINK THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS LIFE-THREATENING PROBLEM. IMAGINE IF YOU DRIVE ON A HIGHWAY AND THE WHEEL SUDDENLY STOP WHEN YOU MAKE A TURN! WE TOLD THEM THAT THIS CAR MODEL IS UNSAFE AND COULD CAUSE DANGER TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC, WHAT IF THIS PROBLEM CAUSE ANY ACCIDENT. THEY ONLY REPLIED THE CAR IS UNDER WARRANTY. AND THEY OFFER NO REFUND, NO EXCHANGE MOREOVER, GIVEN THIS IS A NEW CAR, THERE SHOULD BE NOT ANY WEAR OUT PROBLEM. HOWEVER, THERE WAS A METAL BAR UNDER THE CAR SEAT WHICH WAS RUSTED (FILE IN A SEPARATE COMPLAIN). THEIR TECHNICIAN REPLIED THAT IT IS DUE TO THE HUMIDITY. COULD THAT HAPPEN TO OTHER METAL PARTS OF THE CAR, SUCH AS SCREW? ACCORDING TO OTHER CAR TECHNICIANS, OTHER VEHICLES DO NOT HAVE SUCH WEAKNESS (REQUIRING A SCREW FOR POWERING THE STEERING WHEEL). COULD THAT BE A DESIGN PROBLEM? NOTE: ALTHOUGH THIS CAR IS PURCHASE OUTSIDE OF THE AMERICA, THE SAME MODEL CAR IN THE U.S. MAY HAVE THE SAME SAFETY PROBLEM. I AM JUST NOTIFYING.

MY ONLY COMPLAINT IS THE 'AUTOSTEER' FEATURE. IT'S UNCLEAR WHY THIS IS CONSIDERED AN OPTION AND IT CERTAINLY DOES NOT FUNCTION AS DESCRIBED WHEN I CHECKED IT OFF AS A 5000.00 OPTION UNDER 'ENHANCED AUTOPILOT' WHEN ORDERING MY TESLA. THE SYSTEM IS DANGEROUS, NOT READY FOR BETA TESTING AND CERTAINLY SHOULDN'T BE USED ON PUBLIC ROADWAYS OR WITH ANYONE YOU VALUE IN THE CAR. I CAN SEE IT BEING TESTING ON CLOSED ROADWAYS BY SKILLED PROFESSIONAL DRIVERS BUT OUTSIDE OF THAT IT IS DANGEROUS TO ENGAGE AT ANY SPEED. ON SURFACE STREETS IT CROSSES OVER INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC, DRIVES LIKE A DRUNK, IS APT TO PICK UP THE LEFT TURN LANES, IS CONFUSED BY SIMPLE INTERSECTIONS, FAILS TO SEE OTHER CARS CUTTING DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF IT, ATTEMPTS TO FOLLOW PARKED CARS, CANNOT STAY IN ITS OWN LANE AND FAILS TO PICK UP PEDESTRIANS AND MOTORCYCLISTS. AT FREEWAY SPEEDS IT SLAMS ON BRAKES FOR SHADOWS, MAKES A DECISION TO VIOLENTLY ABORT LANE CHANGES FOR NO APPARENT REASON AND COMES SO CLOSE TO SIDESWIPING OTHER CARS THAT THE OTHER DRIVERS FREQUENTLY HONK. OF COURSE I KEEP MY HANDS ON THE WHEEL AND I'M A MORE VIGILANT DRIVER WHILE USING THIS FEATURE. I STOPPED USING IT WITH MY 6 YEAR OLD SON IN THE CAR AND I'VE NOW DECIDED TO STOP USING IT EVEN WHEN I'M DRIVING ALONE. I GAVE IT A CHANCE TO IMPROVE WITH TIME (OVER 3K MILES ON THE CAR) AND THE RECENT UPDATES AND HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER TWICE BUT THIS HAS NOT IMPROVED THE FUNCTIONING. AGAIN, ALL OF THIS IS FINE FOR TESTING ON A CLOSED TRACK BUT THE PRECIOUS SECONDS SPENT CORRECTING THIS FEATURE AND THE DANGEROUS SITUATIONS IT PUTS US IN ARE A REAL HINDRANCE TO OPERATING THIS VEHICLE SAFELY. I'M DISAPPOINTED BY THIS FEATURE AND I FIRMLY BELIEVE THIS SHOULD BE PULLED FROM THE FLEET AND REINTRODUCED ONLY WHEN IT'S PROPERLY TESTED AND SAFE. MONIES SPENT ON THIS OPTION SHOULD BE REFUNDED UNTIL IT ACTUALLY WORKS.
