I noticed the windshield washer nozzle on the passenger side isn't either working or not there. I reached out to Tesla, and also stopped by a Local Dealership and they told me that it would cost me out of pocket, since it's out of warranty. Secondly, the left side driver repeater camera has a Glare when turned at night time only. which is quite dangerous due to very less visibility due to the Glare of the Turn signal light that causes the repeater camera to function properly. this is a on going known problem. I have reached out to Tesla for this matter. and I was advised that it would not be covered since it's not under warranty. This issue should be a recall that Tesla should fix. this isn't an issue caused by normal wear and tear it's a manufacturer defect.
Picked up car from tesla service on 12/30/2025. On [XXX] at around [XXX] I had pressed the car break and suddenly accelerated and lead to crashing into the pole. I am concerned about the safety and if it is drivable. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
In May 2025, Tesla pushed an over-the-air (OTA) software update overnight while the vehicle was parked. When the vehicle was started the following morning, the update had failed mid-process and stalled at approximately 50%. Immediately upon startup, the backup camera and navigation/maps stopped functioning. The vehicle has been unable to complete subsequent software updates since. Tesla service later inspected the vehicle and indicated that the main computer/ECU was stuck in a loop and required replacement. The backup camera and navigation loss occurred immediately following the OTA update and persisted for several months despite multiple service attempts. Due to the vehicle’s rear design and limited rear window visibility, operating the vehicle in reverse without a functioning backup camera significantly impairs visibility. Even when using mirrors or physically turning to look backward, rearward visibility is restricted. As a result, the loss of backup camera functionality presents an ongoing, daily safety hazard during normal vehicle operation.
Tesla's Full Self Driving (FSD) stopped my car on trolley tracks today, and would have stayed on the tracks for a minute if I hadn't taken control and driven off the tracks. This occurred in downtown San Diego, where the trolley (light rail) has many level street crossings. They are well marked. You are not supposed to enter the zone around the tracks until the vehicle ahead of you has moved far enough for you to be able to cross the tracks and get safely past them. I was using FSD. It drove my Tesla onto the tracks before the car ahead of me had given me room to get off the tracks. The line of traffic was stopped for a red light. I would not have been able to drive forward until the light changed, perhaps over a minute. So, I took over and manually drove the car into the adjacent lane, which luckily was empty, and off the tracks. If a train had come while FSD was still in control, this would have killed me, and perhaps other nearby people. There was no warning message or other indicator.
I dropped my kids to school and started reversing the car without seatbelts. Thinking that I will get out of the parking lot and then put the seatbelt on. Car will stop and goes into park mode. Somehow I came out of the parking lot and about to put and drive again same thing. Car will go into park mode. Somehow I started coming out of the parking lot and took a pause. Same thing again car stops and goes into park mode. It was almost the car behind me about to hit. I guess this is a bug of the “Hold” mode.
I am reporting a safety issue involving my 2021 Tesla Model Y. The vehicle recently displayed a “Parking brake function degraded” warning. The car has only 91,000 miles and is approximately four years old, which is far too soon for a failure of a critical safety component such as the electronic parking brake. Please investigate whether this issue is part of a wider defect affecting Tesla Model Y vehicles. This should not occur on a relatively new car with moderate mileage.
Rear cameras and side cameras suddenly failed resulting in low visibility and severe blind spots increasing the chances of collision with other vehicles, people, etc. It is reproducible at the dealer and they are trying to fix the problem by replacing the computer. It can be inspected until dealer repairs the issue. The vehicle has only been inspected by the dealer. There was a warning on the screen starting that cameras are temporarily unavailable but camera function did not return after a week and brought to the dealer for repair.
🚨 Immediate Escalation: Safety-Related HV Drive-System Concern / Diagnostic Fee Dispute / No Loaner – Urgent Review Needed VIN [XXX] I am requesting immediate escalation of a safety-related concern involving my 2021 Model Y (approx. 90,000 miles) currently assigned to the Tesla Wilmington Service Center. The advisors (Shelly & Amanda) has stated the diagnostic fee will not be covered until after inspection, but the earliest inspection is October 22, and I’m being asked to drop off the vehicle now with no loaner or transportation support. This is a High-Voltage Drive-System concern that may fall under the Drive Unit Limited Warranty (valid through Feb 2029). The local team refuses to classify the case under warranty review or confirm transportation support, leaving me without safe mobility for weeks. Please escalate this to a Corporate Service Manager or HV Warranty Specialist today and confirm: 1. That the diagnostic will be covered pending warranty review, and 2. That loaner or transportation support will be provided. I’ve been going back and forth with the Wilmington team for a week, and this matter has not been resolved. Despite this being a SAFETY concern and issue . I was told that that O would have to wait weeks to get this issue resolved. After 4 years of ownership, the HV battery has failed. This has put the car at risk it stopped charging and without charging the car was no longer drivable. The battery was overheating the car was very hot the AC stopped working. This put the car at risk when drive the battery dropped significantly while driving. Yes we got it inspected they said that the battery is failing and needs to be replaced. I have a quote about the replacment parts. There was a message at the end that the battery was unable to charge.
I was driving on the highway with my 2021 Model Y Tesla when control arm detached from the frame. Tesla said they could not confirm if it was covered on the warranty over the phone.
The main vehicle computer (MCU) failed. The problem first appeared in May 2024 with intermittent rear camera malfunctions. It has since worsened. Most recently (08/28/25), the center display went completely black and the vehicle became inoperable — I could not start or move it. This left me stranded in a dangerous neighborhood late at night and required the car to be towed. When the display fails, I lose access to the rear camera, climate controls (including defrost), and turn signal indicators. These are safety-critical systems, and in this case the failure also disabled the ability to drive the vehicle entirely. The problem has been reported to Tesla. They inspected the vehicle but claimed the earlier camera malfunction was unrelated to the current computer failure. No independent mechanic has inspected it. The failures are ongoing and reproducible. No warning lights or alerts appeared before the system shut down. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. Being that this issue originally arose back in May, 2024- it should fall under Tesla’s warranty which expired in December 2024.
Brake line failed at the left rear tire. Corroded line. The line is corroded on the right rear also. These are my observations. The brakes failed when driving locally at lower speeds so the car was able to eventually stop due to the regenerative braking. Will be towed to the dealer for inspection/repair. Inspection/repair will occur on Sept.15, 2025. No warning until after the failure.
There is a latch sensor open kept Coming on. I have been to the Tesla dealership twice and nothing has been resolved.
Vehicle: 2021 Tesla Model Y VIN: [XXX] Date of Incident: [XXX] On the afternoon of Sunday [XXX], while my Tesla Model Y was parked at home and charged to approximately 80%, both my wife and I attempted to enter the vehicle to attend an important appointment. Upon approach, we found the car completely unresponsive — no power, no screen activity, and we were unable to start the vehicle or release the charging cable. Despite this, both front doors could still be manually opened. However, the frameless windows did not automatically lower as they normally would when opening and closing the doors, As a result, when we attempted to close the doors, both front door windows shattered, as the glass was unable to lower and collided with the door frame. This incident clearly resulted from a critical system failure that disabled essential safety and design functions. The vehicle was not damaged prior to this event, and there was no impact or external force involved. This malfunction rendered the vehicle inoperable and directly caused costly damage. I am requesting the following: A full investigation into the root cause of the power system failure Immediate replacement of both shattered front windows at no cost A written explanation of what caused the vehicle to become unresponsive This issue raises serious concerns about vehicle safety and reliability, especially when essential functions like glass auto-drop are disabled without any warning, leaving the glass vulnerable to breakage. The bolts connecting the front upper control arm and steering knuckle may not have been tightened properly, potentially leading to detachment. This causes the car to have squeaky, leaking noises when going over bumps and making turns.
I was driving slowly at a parking lot of a supermarket and preparing to park on my right. When I saw a car on my left front backing up, I pressed on the brake pedal immediately and turned the wheel slightly to the right. All of a sudden, the Tesla accelerated on its own with a very strong force and high speed, with the wheel turned sharply on its own toward the right. The Tesla then run through the steel fence of the parking lot, flying past the sidewalk, and finally settled on top of a big rock on the ground (which is placed there to protect the supermarket building). All of these happened so fast with such a strong force and all in an unintended manner. I was not injured and luckily no other persons or vehicles were involved. However, the vehicle was totalled and there were damage of the supermarket property.
Tesla refuses to clear this recall, despite the software having been rolled out via over-the-air updates years ago. I now have to sell my vehicle because I'm unable to import it to Canada.
The heat pump stopped working twice, which requires a trip to the service center and the repair to restore function is a minimum of $3,000. The vehical has no heat at all, no defrost, no cabin heat nothing! This defect happens in the coldest parts of winter and leaves the owner stranded wherever this occurs. The first time was at 52,000 miles. It wouldn't turn on. The heat pump seized. The second time was on a trip, it blow out all the freon and stopped working in Waterloo, Iowa. I was 4 hours from home and it was -4F outside. The car had 136,000 miles. Many others have had heat pumps go out in the same situation...dead of winter. The repair is $3,000 to get heat back into the car. The heat pumpscare clearly defective or not big enough and are destroying themselves every other winter in Minnesota. This is 1. Dangerous because you can't defrost your windshield. 2. You cold freeze to death in very cold conditions. 3. A very expensive repair pn a part that should last mire than a 1 or 2 years. Home heat pumpsvlast 10- 24 years!!
The pedestrian warning system and horn are speakers in newer Tesla's. The speaker is in the front right ahead of the wheel facing down towards the road. When it is raining or snowing, rain or snow get lodged into the speaker and it is completely inaudible. I stood 4 feet away from my vehicle and had someone honk the horn and couldn't hear anything at all. This is very dangerous. The pedestrian warning system is complexly inaudible also. Issue persists for approx. 2 days after rain. If it continues to rain for several days, the horn does not work the entire time. I have contacted Tesla support and they state there is nothing they can do to fix it since it is how it was designed.
After a snowstorm, I shoveled my driveway in front of the car which was facing toward the road (the driveway is on an incline, not steep), cleared the snow off the car and then pulled the car forward/put it in park so that I could shovel the rest of the snow. It took me and my 15 year old son 10 or so minutes to clear the snow behind the car. Then I started to salt the driveway behind the car and a snowplow driving by started honking. I looked up and the car was sliding down the driveway towards the road. Luckily it slowed and stopped, only slightly into the road and did not hit the snowplow, or anything else and I was able to get in and move it. I have a video clip of it which I am unable to upload here - the front tires were rotating while the back tires were locked in place.
Summoned my car in parking lot. Vehicle showed on app that it planned to go straight then turn left but instead cut to a left and thus colliding with the car that was parked next to me. I have the footage if needed. Car should have stopped instead, or followed planned route. I was staring at the car the whole time and it looked that it was going straight, even after colliding, it looked like it was aimed to go forward. The car created a log of what happened if needed.
Suspension noise, front suspension or steering squeak or groaning while turning. Tesla service identified LH half Shaft was damaged and blaming it's due to outside influence because impact to the undershiled. This car should be still under 4 years and 50K warranty but Tesla service refused warranty on the parts.
This morning when operating on FSD trail version, at tye stop sign I had to make left. This is at intersection of Rueslane and Old bridge Turnpike of East Brunswick, NJ. My car started to make a left when there was an incoming car from the left, and they do.not have to stop. Thank fully the car on the left applied instant brakes and avoided tye accident. FsD failed to make right judgement if left turn was possible or not. Fsd version is v12.3.6
The issue appears to be an acceleration malfunction and brake failure in my 2021 Tesla Model Y. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. On [XXX] at [XXX], while waiting for the garage door to open, the car experienced an unknown unintended acceleration malfunction, surging forward uncontrollably. It didn't wait for the garage to open, crashed through the garage into the family room, causing significant structural damage to the framing and door. The City of Eastvale declared the house unsafe, sealing it off. I am now homeless and staying with friends temporarily. During the crash, the airbags did not deploy, and the ABS system failed, preventing an emergency stop. The car stopped 4-5 feet away from my wife, who was on the sofa, posing a critical life-threatening situation. Thankfully, [XXX] and I survived, but this incident caused severe mental trauma for my family. We have not reported the incident to Tesla. The dashcam footage appears deleted during the crash and the car seemed to have only recorded footage before the crash and after. This issue has not been reproduced or confirmed by any dealer or service center, but further investigation needs to be done. The vehicle has not been inspected by Tesla or any service center. However, the police and insurance representatives have been involved. We are coordinating further inspections to find the cause of the acceleration and brake failure. We aim to invoke the Tesla Event Data Recorder (EDR) tool to investigate what exactly went wrong with the car. There were no warning lamps, messages, or symptoms before the incident. NHTSA Recall No: 22V-702, in 2022, was where there was supposedly an OTA update to stop the windows from increasing force in some situations when an object was stuck in the gap between the window and the frame. My 2021 Tesla received that update at the time, and I didn't think much of it...until January 2024 when it actually happened to me. I shut the door with my hand on the window, and at the moment it closed, the window went up to close the small gap. My finger was in there and as I tried to pull it out, the window was still trying to close, not allowing me to do so. Component that failed -- the window, supposedly fixed in 2022 Available for inspection upon request -- returned the leased car in September 2024 How was safety put at risk -- could not remove finger from gap between window and frame since window was continuously trying to close Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center -- I was ignored by Tesla HQ, and by my closest dealer. The Tesla dealer from which I leased the car (a different one) told me to make a service appointment. Has the component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others -- no Were there any warnings or symptoms -- no. No reason to think it would ever happen, then it did in January 2024.
My wife was driving the car on our downsloping driveway when the car suddenly accelerated without her pressing the accelerator pedal. She slammed on the brakes and was able to bring the car to a stop before colliding with the garage door.
Tesla Model Y's windshield is terribly and soft. A small stone fallen on the windshield it cracks right away. I had to replace my windshield every year or so.
Car was summoned and turned a sharp right directly hitting the car parked next to it while pulling out. The location was the parking lot of [XXX] on [XXX] . I have a full video of this which shows the car pulling forward then taking a sharp right impacting the vehicle parked next to it. Full self driving is not recognizing traffic signals. This results in the vehicle proceeding through red lights, and stopping at green lights. Without properly seeing/processing traffic signals, it approaches every intersection as if there are no traffic lights. Service center has had the car twice, without being able to remedy the problem. The 3rd appointment was cancelled by Tesla. I have called the corporate office and spoken with a service rep. He was unable to help provide resolution, saying only that my local rep would reach out. I have not been contacted. I've tried every other possible solution. Tesla doesn't want to fix it, or even acknowledge the problem, even though they've done a test drive with me and seen the issue with their own eyes.
Yes, available for inspection Broken glass injury potential Not reproduced Not inspected yet No warning Spontaneous breakage. On the morning of the 9th, went to garage to leave for work and fracture was present. This was not present when arriving home the previous evening. I work 1.4 miles from home and travel surface streets with speed limit of 45MPH
Lane departure warnings activate briefly when driving straight ahead. Sometimes results in disablement of lane departure assistance feature. Tesla has attempted several repair attempts but issue persists: Calibrate radar Replace steering rack Correct steering angle

Vehicle not acting safely, speeding up to pass stopped school bus with stop sign out and yellow lights flashing. This is a generic VIN as it applies to the current software on all FSD cars.
I am writing to file a formal complaint against Tesla, regarding a significant issue with my Tesla Model Y 2021, which I purchased in December last year. This matter pertains to false advertising and a failure to uphold the promised capabilities of the vehicle. Despite Tesla's advertising and product descriptions promising a range of 330 miles on a full charge, my car has consistently achieved at least 40% less than this advertised range. This drastic shortfall has severely impacted the vehicle's usability and the value I derive from it. I scheduled a service appointment with Tesla. The resolution proposed by the service team was both shocking and unacceptable. They suggested that to achieve the advertised range, I would need to disable the vehicle's cameras. This advice is not only impractical but also negates one of the key safety features of the car. There was no disclosure at the point of sale that the use of standard vehicle features, such as the cameras, would so drastically reduce the car's range. To suggest disabling a critical feature to achieve the advertised performance is misleading and diminishes the value and functionality of the vehicle. Feeling deceived by Tesla, as the product delivered does not meet the specifications and capabilities that were advertised, I am seeking a resolution to this matter. I propose the following options: 1-A technical fix to the car that allows it to achieve the advertised 330-mile range without disabling any safety or standard features. 2-Complimentary access to Tesla's Supercharger network 3-A full refund for the vehicle, allowing me to return the car.
The horn placement on my car VIN [XXX] ) 2023 Tesla Model S Plaid is difficult to find when in an emergent situation. The horn is a small button on the right side of the steering wheel rather than the center of the steering wheel. Twice in the past week, I have failed to alert another car that they were about to hit me. I reflexively hit the middle of the steering wheel to alert the other vehicle. Given the horn doesn't reside in the middle of the steering wheel, I failed to get the drivers attention and had to swerve erratically to avoid an accident. The horn placement is dangerous, non functional and needs to be addressed by Tesla and NHTSA immediately. Tesla drivers who drive an updated steering wheel are essentially driving with no horn. Vehicle screen has phantom touches. Extremely unsafe as the vehicle will turn volume to max, turn heat/air up and down, and make other changes on its own and while driving. Almost caused several accidents. Tesla had made me wait for a month before they will fix.
After the latest recall (campaign #23V-838), the automated warnings while using autosteer becomes so frequently that it becomes distractingly dangerous. Even when i briefly avert my eyes while driving on an empty highway results in the warnings
Water collects in the rear bottom trunk compartment. This flooding has resulted in moId. It appears as though the rear trunk is not properly installed and I have seen this reported on forums by other Tesla owners. Here is an example: [XXX] I have sent my Tesla for repair but it’s out of warranty. Tesla is also really poor when it comes to service times etc so I want to file a formal complaint to see if this helps other Tesla owners. After Tesla software update 2023.44.30.2, the rear back up camera no longer works. It’s just a black screen. Failure first occurred on 12/20/2023. Also, Tesla “Auto pilot” no longer works (cruise control and lane assist). Support team could not fix both issues. Have a service appointment scheduled on 12/27/2023. Thank you and happy holidays.
My vehicle loss it’s autopilot mode. I called Tesla repair center multiple times but they keep on saying that the engineering department still looking into it and they don’t have any timeframe to when will it be fix.
The bolt holding my control arm bushing came completely out dropping my front passenger side of the car on to my tire. In research and talking to mechanics this is a known problem Tesla is refusing to help me or acknowledge it is an issue
The LTE system for navigation stops working during normal commuting, the system helps with directions when in a town that this unfamiliar. I'm an insurance adjuster who counts on these systems working correctly. I have reviewed several sites and thousands of people are having the same problem. This become a safety issue if the car fails during normal commuting and the drive then becomes lost and is looking down to fix the problem or turns off the road because this system fails. This system is also connected to other system which create a since of failure within the vehicle its self. If you could please look into this issue. thank you
Main console computer spontaneously rebooted mid-drive. Ability to know vehicle speed is not possible during reboot. After reboot, the vehicle turn indicators would not activate and when I attempted to enter “park,”, the vehicle continued to indicate that it was in “drive.” It did not respond to the accelerator pedal after it was attempted to be set to “park,” so the vehicle state and the indicator remained inconsistent. Vehicle appears to have returned to normal operation after manual reboot.
On Wednesday, our 2021 Tesla Y - which we have LOVED driving for the last 3 years - took off on its own while I was sitting in traffic - where traffic was at a standstill, and the max speed was probably 4 MPH. Construction ahead had closed a lane, so there was a massive back-up and cars were creeping along each time the traffic light ahead turned green.) As any Tesla owner will tell you, the best way to slow down is to remove your foot from the gas pedal, and the car will slow down and come to a stop on its own. That had always been the case for our vehicle until Wednesday. Shockingly, for no reason at all, the car massively accelerated. I slammed on the brakes, but the brakes did not slow or stop the car. Luckily, the car in front of me was only 2 - 3 car lengths away, so my Tesla which was rapidly gaining speed stopped only when it crashed into that car. I have relatively minor injuries, but I am sure I would have been killed and/or killed others if not for the vehicle in front of me forcing my car to stop. After the crash, we flat-bedded the car to a Tesla-approved auto body shop. Our insurance adjuster will be inspecting the car on Monday. We will make the vehicle available for inspection. I am still shaken from this traumatic experience. I have never had a car accident (but for a fender bender over 40 years ago). Moreover, I have spent my life working in public service (govt, elected officials and nonprofits). I am determined to make sure that this safety problem is fully investigated and repaired - as our roads are not safe until it is fixed.
Model Y Battery Problem. The battery died while my baby was inside the car. Phone app, remote control, key card, etc. did not work. We live in Las Vegas & August is very hot. Today is Sunday and nobody in Las Vegas was able to help. Customer Service took over 30 minutes just to connect, and was no help. I got transferred around numerous times because they have no solution. The frustrating part was that tesla employee wasn't willing to help. I understand that they might not be able to do anything, but their attitude and the unwillingness to help was just shocking. One of them even told me that there's nothing they can do and I need to contact someone in Las Vegas. Other employee who had no knowledge of the car told me to jump start the car. He gave me an attitude when I told him I cannot open the frunk. He told me to read the manual to manually open the frunk. I replied stating I already did read the manual already and do not have the tool to pop open the side frunk. I'm just disappointed with being transferred around and the waste of time while my child was stuck inside the car. Currently, there's no manual door unlock from the outside! There's no manual frunk or trunk unlock either from the outside. All Japanese cars, including hybrid and electric has emergency door lock built into their car. I believe this needs to change for Tesla, as it is putting kids and babies in danger. Thank you for listening to my concern.
During raining multiple teslas including my tesla last week experienced hydroplaning lead to close ti fatal accidents I believe the car inappropriately used emergency breaking that lead to accident, i am not if that was due to the car seeing water/reflection ln the ground I was driving the speed limit and all cars were driving at the same speed 70-75 mile per hour) I suddenly started spinning with no warnings It is impossible that multiple teslas experienced the same thing more than other cars I am trying to get the data from tesla to confirm this, but it is not easy to make them get us what exactly happened I am seeking third party analysis hopefully once i get the data, but it would be best done from NHTSA The damage to my car was due to hitting the road and my car went to the middle due to hight difference No other cars or objects were hit If i hit anything, it could have been fatal
The speaker volume will turn up to max constantly while driving randomly without user touching the screen. The display screen will constantly flash random map and zooming in and out of random places. The screen also flash the auto control constantly. It like a ghost in the screen.
I was driving on 270 North from Washington to Frederick at around 70 MPH on cruise control. There were no cars in front of me. Then, all of a sudden, my Tesla Y braked hard (phantom braking) for no reason, to around 40 MPH, I panicked and had to override the cruise control to continue driving. There was a red car behind me; fortunately, he wasn't tailgating so he swerved in time to avoid crashing into the rear of my car. This is unacceptable!
While driving on highway, my Tesla all of a sudden accelerated unintentionally and violently swiveled, not letting me take control of the steering wheel. My car spun 180 degrees and I had to drive to the grass on the side to stop the car. Autopilot was not on, cruise control was not on, I was driving normally. My entire family was in the car and they witnessed the situation. This was extremely scary and could have caused injuries or even death. This is the second time it happened to my Tesla (similar situation, my wife was driving that time).
My mother was involved in a fatal crash on August 30, 2022. We believe there was something unusual that occurred with the Tesla Model Y as it was on a quiet residential street and the car seems to have accelerated suddenly and she hit a pole. We are still waiting on the California Highway Patrol report.
1.What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? After closing the passenger side door, The 12v battery that controls the Tesla cabin died without any prior warning or car notification that it needed to be replaced, as a result the car instantly powered down , disabling the a/c, windows and door locks and we were unable to open the doors to access the car. 2. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? At the time of the event no, just our personal belongings were trapped inside the car but as a parent of a small child I usually put my child in her car seat first and close the door then get in my seat, if this had occurred with my child being in the car , my only option would be to smash in the window to get her out as the car has no back up system to open the car doors if the 12v battery dies. 3. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes , the tesla had to be towed to the service center we’re they had to run system test and replace the 12v battery. 4. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Yes by Tesla , they ran test and determined that the 12v battery was the issue. 5. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No warnings or notifications were given prior , teslas are suppose to receive a notification to alert the owner the battery needs to be replaced as their cars have a lot of 12v battery drain.
Tesla full self driving drove off highway curb and dropped 10 feet down, vehicle was total loss, airbags popped. There was a car trying to change to Tesla lane, Tesla overacted and took over control, and driver was unable to take back the control while in full self driving mode, no warning sign whatsoever during the accident, Tesla just drove off high way curb by itself. No collision between Tesla and other car. As experienced driver for over 30 years, I have never had accidents at fault, never made such silly mistake to drive off high way.
The plugs and door latches on both rear doors have repeatedly failed, endangering the safety of my family and other occupants of the vehicle. I am concerned about the safety of drivers and passengers and believe that this issue requires your immediate attention. The plugs and door latches on both rear doors of my Tesla Model Y have failed repeatedly. The failure of the door latches and plugs has repeatedly endangered the safety of the occupants, particularly children who may be unable to exit the car in an emergency situation. The door trim falls out of place, locking the occupants in the back of the car. This problem has been reproduced and confirmed by the dealer, as evidenced by my car's multiple visits to the service center for the same issue. Attached are the documents, they are all for the same issue - though tesla classified them inconsistently. The vehicle has been inspected by the service center, but the problem has persisted despite their attempts to fix it. There were no warning indicators prior to the failure, making the problem even more dangerous as it can occur without the driver's knowledge. I am deeply concerned about this safety issue, particularly given that the 2021 Tesla Model Y is a popular vehicle that is widely used by consumers across the United States. It is vital that action is taken to address this issue and ensure that all affected vehicles are recalled and repaired. I strongly urge the NHTSA to investigate this issue and require a recall of all affected vehicles. The safety of drivers and passengers must be the top priority in the design and manufacture of all vehicles, and it is clear that the Tesla Model Y's rear door latches and plugs are failing to meet necessary standards of safety.
Right side passenger door doesn’t open. Since I purchased the car Tesla has fixed the problem but it keeps reappearing. My concern is that if I get in to an accident passengers in the rear seat can get stuck as the door doesn’t open either from inside or outside.
It seems like this is a common problem if you search "tesla phantom braking," which very obviously needs a solution. I commonly experience the phantom braking when there is a shadow like passing under a bridge. The car will slam on the brakes thinking the shadow is another car, which is obviously extremely dangerous especially on the highway. A simple solution would be to add a legacy cruise control option, while fixing the phantom braking. This would cause a lot less wrecks and deaths.
The vehicle heating/defrost system is not functioning in cold weather. It only functions in my heated garage. In cold weather it cannot defrost causing visibility issues, driver distraction (trying to get the heat/defrost to work while driving) and a reduction in blood flow to the extremities. The heating system blows freezing cold air into the cabin when on. I have written a lemon law letter to Tesla, demanding the vehicle be replaced under Alaska law, and they have not done so after 80+ days. The vehicle’s supermanifold was damaged the day we took delivery. Tesla has not honored Alaska law and I’ll be filing paperwork with the state’s attorney general’s office. Tesla should not be allowed to operate in the State of Alaska due to committing an unfair trade act in the State of Alaska and endangering the lives of their customers.
On February 20, 2023, my infotainment system console and screen completely failed as I was backing up to a Supercharger. This started with the typical lag I have filed service complaints for before, the camera occlusions, and then nearly caused an accident with the barrier pole in front of the Supercharger. This is the eighth near miss in over a year of ownership and the 27th occurrence of issues related to the infotainment system console and screen. Often, it is burning hot, other times it is woefully underpowered to accomplish anything in a timely manner (if at all) when these incidents occur. I have been to the Tesla service center twice about this very issue. Each time, I was told software update would be issued that would fix the problem(s). That has never been the case. With everything so reliant upon that center-mount display and its associated computer in this model of vehicle, it HAS to be considered a must-not-fail component to the extent humanly possible. I am taking this vehicle in for a third time for this and multiple other issues that seem to some degrees associated with the issue. After badgering the Tesla helpdesk personnel with demands to replace or fix the issue, they have told me on February 23, 2023 that they will be replacing the computer next week (whether this is to evaluate the device for issues or to hide evidence to their culpability in an incompetent design flaw, I cannot be sure).
While driving the all functionality was lost and the screen went black
I was in 2 accidents with this car within a span of less than a year all with the same problem. I had not been in any accident over 40 plus years until this car. First incident was at a drive through when creeping up to the next window the car took off hyperaccelerating. I was able to avoid the truck in front of me from back ending her however scraped her tailpipe causing extensive damage to my car. She then hit the car in front of her. Second incident was approaching my home in my 20-30 mph neighborhood and went to go from 20-30 when car accelerated at a fast speed and was unable to control it being it happened so fast. Hit a tree. All the airbags went off. I could have been seriously injured as anyone who had been on bikes or walking .
Heatpump failed which caused a lack of cabin heat and in warmer weather would have caused charging issues due to lack of cooling possibly leaving me stranded. This had a warning on screen about loss of cabin conditioning. This happened over a mountain pass and caused the cabin temp to drop to 25F with two kids in car seats. This could be a really bad situation, luckily we had blankets and such to keep warm for the last few hours of the drive. I believe this was caused by an earlier TSB with sensor replacements and a software change done earlier in the life of my car for heatpump issues. This most likely caused wear on the pump and caused it to fail prematurely just out of warranty. The system was replaced by Tesla at significant cost and confirmed metal shavings in the system from the heatpump. I requested to keep the parts and still have them if further investigation is necessary.
The driver side window doesn’t roll all the way up when trying to close it automatically with one button push. It goes partially up the side and then will automatically roll down.
Autobraking works sometimes and it doesn't many a times consistently. Also, there is a bad smell that keeps coming regularly. Not sure where that is coming from.
I was using the new version of the full self driving on surface streets. It was my second time using the system (yesterday was the first on the freeway and it seemed odd). Today it sped up and veered towards a car parked in the middle lane. I grabbed the wheel and thought it might have been an innocent error. Then a few minutes later the car took control again and tried to turn (quickly) into the side of a FedEx truck. At that point I knew the first miss wasn’t made up in my mind. I’m so glad I was paying attention, both would have been serious car damage - though not likely to be deadly because they were at low enough speeds.
In a rainy day I drove Tesla Model Y (AWD) on highway 1 in the Raleigh NC area. The highway 1 is under construction. There are only two lanes open with cement barriers on both sides. While I was driving on the left lane, the car suddenly lost control and slide to the right. I tried to hit break and turn left to avoid the SUV on the right lane, but my car end up turning 180 degree and driver side rear-end hit the cement barrier. Fortunately no injury and no other vehicles involved in the collation. It was raining but not hard. I don't understand why the AWD Tesla would suddenly lost control and slide to right. I can't remember if autopilot was on or off. I tried to request data from Tesla but was denied. Their email indicates only California registrant can request data. I believe the Teals driving and EDR data can really help to confirm if it was a weather issue or not. I have dashcam video ready to upload.
Regarding a Tesla Y, 2021with 10,000 miles; Durging a recent cold spell, winter driving conditions, the A/C Compressor/Heat Pump failed causing the windshield defrost to cease functioning, causing the visiblity to become poor to none at all, requiring that the vehicle not be driven on the roads until the weather cleared and even then, the driver or pasenger (if avalailbe) has to wipe down the wet windshield from inside to acceptable visibility standards. We did not get in an accident as we quickly abandoned the Tesla Model Y and obtained a ride from another vehicle that had a working windshield defroster. We understand that this has been a problem in Canada and is the subject of a Canadian recall. We contacted Tesla, sent them the computer code "VC front-a447 Cabin Climate Control Issues-requires service" and were advised that they were familiar with this problem and scheduled a repair which included the removal and replacement of the A/C Compressor/Heat Pump and the 'Supermanifold' at a cost of $1,993.55. We were advised that no 'Recall' was associated with this pariticular VIN and nor was there any warranty but this would be a 'customer pay' repair. After exhausting all efforts at writing and calling in an attempt to have a clear defect leading to a safety violation addressed voluntarily by the manufacturer we feel we are left with no alternative but to ask the Goverment to look into this issue for the safety of others who may drive a Tesla with a heat pump in cold weather and very dependant on the proper operation of a windshield defroster (which the heat pump does) for safe visiblity, crucial to proper operations of a motor vehicle, on the public highways. Thanks in advance for looking into this.
No clearing of recall once OTA / Software update was completed
The contact owns a 2021 Tesla Model Y. The contact stated while at a complete stop with the brake pedal depressed, the vehicle rolled backwards. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the failure had been reoccurring intermittently while at a complete stop. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
I was in a stop and go traffic (car wash line), a sudden unintentional acceleration happened and resulted in a high impact accident
On November 5'2022 (12.30pm PST), we went to visit local bank. We parked the car and locked it. After locking the car ,we have started go towards bank and suddenly we noticed all four windows automatically started to open (eventually all windows were open and rain water started to go inside). We were lucky that this has happened with stationery car. I am worried if this will happen when car is moving at fast speed , this might cause serious issue .
Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No 118. Power operated window, partition, and roof panel system
Windows on certain model year 2021-2022 Model S and Model X vehicles, model year 2017-2022 Model 3 vehicles and model year 2019-2022 Model Y vehicles to correct performance of automatic window reversal systems to comply with regulatory standards
I was going on I-95 North (Palm Beach County) on Autopilot (and I had Full Self Driving enabled in my car). It was raining, and I was at moderate speed, I would say 45-50 mph. The car started spinning uncontrollably. By miracle nodoby hit me, the card corrected after what I believe were 2 spins and continue on the same direction as traffic. I believe, with the nerves of the moment, that about 45 to 60 seconds later, I put auto pilot again, not knowing what hapened. And the car, out of nothing, started spininng again. 3 times, and I hit the opposite wall of the highway. By another miracle, nobody hit me (rush hour, I-95 north, 820am)
I have an ongoing problem with the dashcam recording, which for me is a safety issue. The dashcam constantly records from several cameras what is happening around the vehicle. The dashcam icon will show a red “x,” indicating that the dashcam is not working. Probably 80% of the time I get in the car, the red x is there. The solution involves opening the glove box and pulling the drive, waiting for up to 20 seconds, then replacing it. If that doesn’t work, the usb drive needs to be formatted and all previous clips are lost, but probably 95% of the time the reformat fails. It was recommended by Tesla service that I purchase another usb drive ($45?), but that did not solve the problem. I’ve had my car into Tesla service for this issue or reported it through the app multiple times. For months, I’ve been told it will be addressed with a firmware update, but it has not happened. Other Tesla owners are also having this issue, but it was addressed with a firmware update and the problem was fixed. The owners who have the Full Self Driving Beta have NOT had a firmware update to address the issue. We are the owners who paid $10-15,000 extra for the full self driving feature. I have not been able to get any information from Tesla about an expected timeframe for this update. I ask, but I’m always told it will be a “future update.” I have asked if anyone is working on this issue, and they won’t answer that question either. I would like to know the status. I’ve been very patient, but since there is aggression in the areas where I drive against EV drivers, and Teslas in particular, I need this feature to be working. I have been harassed, had large pickup drivers tailgate or try to run me off the road, and I’ve been coal rolled. I’ve already used data from the dashcam to report aggressive drivers to the police.
The car suddenly stops responding with the entire system seems to be shut down. I cannot access any controls including lights, brakes and any other safety features. I reached out to tesla regarding this and even sent them a video showing the same. They are not responsive at all and seem to not care about this. The car had sidetracked due to no visibility (Wouldn't consider a crash but almost one)This happened multiple times and is really a big safety concern. We were in the middle of woods when this happened and my wife was alone the other time. I would really appreciate if you expedite this issue and get us a solution. The image below is taken when the lights were on but eventually they were gone.
I had the Tesla on autopilot on interstate I-80, it was raining. The car was in the middle lane. It suddenly started to slide to the right and hit a truck in the right lane. I tried to regain control of the vehicle and hit the brake hard, but it did not seem to work. Tesla clipped the truck and continued to slide off into the guard rail.
2021 Tesla's rear-view camera and collision warning systems did not activate when backing out of a parking spot. Tesla screen showed the navigation map instead of the rear-view camera while I was backing out at low speed ~2 mph. A 2003 Honda Pilot directly behind me was also backing up at the same time resulting in a collision. After the crash, I confirmed that all safety features were enabled and I have always installed all regularly scheduled updates. After searching online forums, I found many customers reporting problems with their on-screen camera not activating. I have noticed that the camera did not consistently activate in the past. Sometimes it would, other times I would have to manually press the Camera button on-screen in order to view behind me. There were no on-screen notifications of problems before the event. However, there was one notable change I made to re-enable Sentry Mode (security) after being disabled for some time. Prior to the event, I was notified that two Sentry Camera events were available to watch but they would not load when I touched on screen. After the crash, I discovered after the crash that both Sentry and Dash Cam were not working so there was no footage at all of the crash! Nor were these Sentry events visible. This leads me to believe there is a bug with the camera system.
Driving on highway at 65 mph suddenly drive speed to 30 miles as if emergency brakes were applied.
Due to the NHTSA demanding the removal of the boombox feature while driving I have had SEVERAL issues which were previously avoidable. The vehicle does not make a sound when driving and often times pedestrians cannot hear the vehicle. The horn without custom sounds is aggressive and could incite road rage from pedestrians or other vehicles when previously being able to play music via the outside speakers via boombox alerted pedestrians and in extreme cases a funny sound accompanied with the horn would cause the pedestrian or other vehicles to notice but not incite road rage. I am imploring NHTSA to allow Tesla to bring back the boombox while driving and the custom horn sounds before more people get hurt! This is an NHTSA demand issue and not a Tesla issue. This is a daily issue when driving in parking lots or through neighborhoods!! NHTSA's original demand being that the PWS was not able to be audibly heard while boombox was engaged is garbage, boombox enabled an audible warning to pedestrians in conjunction with the PWS. Now with the lack of boombox while in drive or custom horn sounds there are many instances personally witnessed, told to me, and experienced where road rage has occurred and pedestrians are in the roadway unaware of a vehicle approaching. I propose the solution of returning to allow custom horn sounds and boombox while driving but when in reverse to mute the boombox and allow the PWS to be heard loudly. This will appease all sides and allow pedestrians a warning signal that the vehicle is in reverse while also not inciting road rage from a gentle or funny custom horn and alerting pedestrians and other vehicles a moving vehicle is nearby when in drive. Again, I implore you to make the right decision and allow Tesla to enable custom horns and boombox while driving to save lives!!
The roof glass cracked with no impact and no accident. No chip or missing pieces of glass. Everything is in tack but has cracked
On multiple occasions the rear hatch has opened while the vehicle was in drive stopped at traffic lights. During each event the only two users were present and neither were interacting with the phone app or the vehicle touch screen. The rear hatch should not open when the vehicle is in drive or reverse under any circumstance and it does. To close it in this situation you must place the car in park and wait for the screen that allows you to close it while sitting at a red light.
I was about to park the car in my garage and stopped midway down my driveway to take a phone call. After the phone call, I changed it from park to to drive by stepping on the brake and lightly stepped on the accelerator to ease it into the garage. It quickly accelerated. I stepped on the brake to stop it but it failed to stop. It crashed into my refrigerator in the garage. A video is available for you to view
Recently while pulling into my children's school, my car has started deciding that the entrance to the parking garage is a large truck stopped diagonally in front of me and slams on the brakes scaring me and causing everything in the car to go flying. Luckily no one has been behind me while this has happened. I am always entering very slowly, maybe 5 mph at the very fastest.
While driving along on an interstate highway at night, the frame rate for the display system including speedometer and other vehicle information drastically dropped. This resulted in limited situational awareness of what the car was doing. Updates for lane changing, blind spot detection, and lane departure warnings were delayed/lagged as a result of the reduced frame rate. This did not impact how the vehicle drove, or activation of turn signals, and the lower frame rate did not result in any flickering of the display. A display reset was required while driving at highway speeds to regain full situational awareness.
I was stopping at the parking lot of my church St. Thomas Syro-Malabar Catholic Forane Church (508 Elizabeth Ave, Somerset, NJ 08873) to drop my daughter. I applied the break but the vehicle kept moving and hit the gas line of the church. The gasline broke and car front got damaged. There was no auto break and warning of the obstacle.
I started having issues with my heat pump and described to the service center that on multiple occasions it has malfunctioned or improperly heated the cabin on both negative temperature and 40° days. I mentioned it also makes a weird noise. Because I mentioned a noise they refused to look at it under warranty and will not look at it unless I pay 87.50. They have a known ongoing issue with what pumps for our model and this should be a priority for them to take care of. It seems like incredibly irresponsible business. This has happened on multiple occasions with tesla they refuse to look at many safety concerns unless I pay. There are also numerous other safety issues with my car they refuse to fix.
Cabin climate control failure, no heat
Sometimes randomly but often in the spot, when in autopilot, the car will randomly brake hard when there is no car or obsticle in front of me. This has occured when I'm on the highway and I've noticed a pattern that it happens when I go under and overpass. Its usually very sunny and there is a strong shadow in front of the car. I think with the camera vision autopilot it thinks the shadow is an obstacle in the road but I'm not sure. This happens very suddenly and luckily has not happened when a car is following close behind me. But if it did this could definitely cause a rear collision at high speeds.
These issues occur w/ no warning, occur randomly, in all conditions. Issue 1. Vehicle randomly slams on the brakes with no obstructions or vehicles in front. This occurs at highway speeds as well as neighborhood speeds. I'm worried about being rear-ended. This occurs daily. Issue 2. Vehicle thinks oncoming traffic is in same lane and attempts to emergency stop. Issue 3. Upon changing lanes, using auto lane change, vehicle serves back I to lane for no reason.
Phantom braking has occurred multiple times randomly when autopilot and cruise control are activated.
I am aware that NHTSA is investigating Tesla over the emergency braking issue when using its advanced features. When I have read articles about this they always reference auto pilot or full self driving. I wanted to make sure you knew that this issue also impacted adaptive cruise control. When I brought my Model Y home in August of last year I quickly learned I could not safely use the adaptive cruise control. I live in rural NE Iowa, and mainly drive on two lane roads. If I was on a downhill slope and meeting a vehicle with any kind of height to it the car would activate emergency braking, even though the other vehicle was completely in its own lane. It appears to me this issue has gotten better as updates have been issued the last six months and I have started to gingerly use cruise control again. It is common in the winter here to have tall piles of snow in parking lots. I also noticed on a sunny day I could drive right up to one of these piles when parking. It was striking that that huge pile of snow was invisible to the vehicle. Any other time I approach a barrier (e.g. pulling in to my garage) it gives all manner of warnings and a visual indication of how far you are from the wall. This issue would be much more dangerous if an analogous situation occurred using Autopilot or FSD. It is my understanding that for the 2021 Y Tesla went to just a camera based system (dropped LIDAR). I don’t know if that is what caused these problems or not. The car is a joy to drive. BUT, Tesla’s habit of releasing updates and features to the masses before they are fully tested is dangerous in my opinion. There are more Tesla’s on the roads these days, at some point the accidents are going to add up. The ability to update systems that control how a car is operated/functions is relatively new. I would offer that the processes around how these updates are managed should be the subject of a separate investigation.
I DO NOT DRIVE THIS CAR OFTEN, BUT WHEN I WENT ON A ROAD TRIP FOR TWO WEEKS OVER CHRISTMAS I NOTICED THAT THE CAR WHEN IT WAS IN CRUISE CONTROL WOULD PICK UP VEHICLES COMING TOWARD ME ON A TWO LANE ROAD AND SUDDENLY SLOW DOWN. IT GOT MUCH WORSE COMING HOME WHEN I WAS IN NEW MEXICO ON I25 GOING NORTH. IT WOULD SUDDENLY SLOW DOWN COMING UP TO A CREST OF A HILL WITH NO OTHER VEHICLE AROUND ME. IT ALSO PICKED UP SEMIS GOING SOUTH THAT WERE HUNDREDS OF YARDS AWAY FROM ME. IT HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES AND SCARED MY WIFE. WHEN I WAS HOME I SET UP AN APPOINTMENT WITH TESLA SERVICE. THEY LATER CANCELLED IT AS THEY DID NOT SEE IT AS A PROBLEM.
Phantom braking when using Tesla autopilot
First, the car was not in auto pilot mode or cruise control. The car was driven into the garage, 22 inches from the landing and put in park. The “P” was lit so it was in park when it suddenly lurched forward and hit the landing and the four way flasher came on. Damage has been repaired but was $2500. Per Tesla, the car was not at fault and the car functioned as intended but it was driver error. With all the safety features that this car has, why did it not sound a warning or apply brakes to prevent this from happening. I have read about hundreds of thousand’s of incidents of sudden unintentional acceleration but yet nothing has been done about it. There is another problem with phantom braking when the car suddenly stops if you use the cruise control. I do not use cruise control because of this problem. Tesla continues to add games and other nonsense but have done nothing to fix these problems. I reported this to the Minnesota Attorney Generals office and they suggested that I contact the nhtsa. Their response from Tesla was also that it was driver error and it was not, the car was in park.
Since the v11 upgrade, my backup camera has dropped frames and lags while backing up to the point that I have almost hit bollards while backing up. If a child walked behind the car, I would not know it.
While driving on the freeway at 70 mph with cruise control activated, the Tesla suddenly braked hard. There was no emergency or vehicle entering my lane. This occurs on a regular basis, more so when passing a semi or large vehicle. Vehicles behind me have to brake or swerve to avoid hitting me. I have notified Tesla Service about the issue and their response was they know about the issue. I was told to keep my hands on the steering wheel and pay attention....UNACCEPTABLE!
The manufacturer updated the vehicle software in January 2022. This caused the rear camera to malfunction. The malfunction is that the view of the camera inside the vehicle pauses for periods. The driver is becomes unaware of the true distance between the vehicle and objects behind it. This is worsened as the driver is unaware of the issue. This is a safety issue for any object behind the vehicle when it moves in reverse - including People. It could also easily result in damage to the rear of the vehicle being driven.
Saw this article today in the Washington Post: https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2022/02/02/tesla-phantom-braking/ We have a 2021 Tesla Y. It does not have the Lidar technology. We have experienced this phantom braking when driving west and east across I-94 through MN and North Dakota and Montana. Sometimes it seems like it happens when we cross over a small bridge on the interstate and sometimes it happens randomly. We can't figure out what set it off. Anyway, I told my husband we should never use the auto pilot as that is when it occurs. So, we have quit using it. It is super scary when it happens!
I was traveling in -5 degree (Fahrenheit) weather and the cabin heater stopped working (a notice appeared on the screen explaining that it was malfunctioning). Windshield began to fog up, so turned on fan and outside air in order to remove the fog. Ended up driving 8 hours in -5 degree weather with outside air coming in the car. Seat heaters and steering wheel heater continued to work. My passengers and I had to wear coats, boots, gloves, and a hat and still got numb hands and feet. I felt this was a dangerous situation, unable to keep warm while driving or when pulled over. Manufacturer looked at the issue and said the refrigerant was slightly low and replenished it. I don't feel confident that this was an actual fix.
The heat pump that supplies all heated air to the cabin stopped working completely. Safety was impacted because my windshield fogged up, making it impossible to see clearly out of my windshield or other windows. It was 11°F outside with no heating. I am not sure if a service center has been able to reproduce the issue, but I have images of the fogging and the error message. Nobody has inspected the issue yet. I received an error message "VCFRONT_a447" and "Cabin Climate Control System Requires Service" I have received this error message in two separate occasions now, both when it was lower than 15°F outside.
The heater of the vehicle just stop working, due to MN cold weather and since there is no heat and just cold air blowing. It freezes the windshield and frost would build up with out any way to melt it since there’s no heat. It also fogs up the interior in the car since you can’t open the windows due MN minus windchill weathers. It’s hard to see and keep warm in a cold climate state. Tesla doesn’t see this is an emergency and it’s very concerning
There is no heat in car. The Climate Control Failed. Cabin Climate Control System requires service is the error message. Its a known problem with Tesla Model 3 and Model y The temperature in the car was in the single digits. The window would not defrost and had a hard time seeing. Tesla expected me to drive the car in a snow storm to bring in for service. I canceled the appt with the next available appt 10 days later. Service scheduled for Jan 27th 2022. the 1st time it failed was Jan 15th 8:00am.
Received Error code: VCFRONT_447 indicating a cabin heat issue, and a complete loss of heat within the interior of the vehicle. It appears this also is preventing the battery from fully warming up causing severe vehicle power reduction and lack of regen braking. It being sub-zero and frost bite within minutes this poses a safety risk when traveling. The problem has been reported by other vehicle owners. It has not been inspected at this time. There were no other alerts prior to the issue starting on 1/20/2022 at ~6am CST.
Started driving the car in cold weather and received message climate control needs service. The heater would not warm up. Tried shutting the car off and on and it still would not provide heat. It was under 20 degrees and had no heat or defrost.
Last year Tesla switched to a heat pump system for heating the interior of the car. Since that change the 2021 models are regularly loosing heat when the temperature gets below zero. Sometimes restarting the car will bring it back but not always. This can lead to drivers being stranded with no heat in potential dangerous temperatures. Tesla was aware of the issue last winter and it has still not been addressed and the issue is persisting in newly built cars.
Heat did not work in -15F temperatures.
The heat stops working when the ambient temperature reaches 0 degrees. This is a safety risk in cold temperatures, especially for young children that can’t wear coats in the car due to car seats. This has happened in newer models that have a heat pump as the heating system, per social media accounts. The service center is inspecting tomorrow. A warning message appears when the heat stops working on the car screen. There is also an error on the phone app when preconditioning cannot start (preconditioning is supposed to mitigate the error, but it gets too cold to precondition).
Multiple occasions of the vehicle's heat/ac system failing in cold weather.
I was driving from Bend Or to Boise Id on January 1st 2022. The temperature was about 7 degrees out that evening and the heater stopped working. We bundled up and kept the blower on the windshield so that we could see, but by the time we reached Boise it was 22 degrees inside the car. We were very cold. Due to the remote area we were in we did not want to stop.
I was driving on interstate 285 Atlanta in rain. All of a sudden the screen froze. Wipers won’t work. Had poor visibility. Could not even put on emergency lights. Had to do hard reset and pull over. Before I could get them to work again. This was extremely dangerous in the middle of the road. Similar issue happened with my wife in a brand new model 3 a few weeks ago and we were told it was a software issue and resolved with an over the air update. I have the UpToDate software in my model y. Feel Tesla softwares should be approved by NHTSA before being sent to customers.
Tesla recently overhauled the firmware to their vehicles, however the newest update removes much of the ease and functionality. They have removed defogger buttons into the background, and other settings as well, causing the user to have to use multiple touches to work something that previously was quick. I believe this to be a safety issue. Drivers are now unaware where certain settings are and causes drivers to become distracted from the road to a degree that is unsafe while driving.
A recent vehicle software update now has a speed limit alert stuck right in the middle of the touch screen display. It's unnecessary, annoying and intrusive. Tesla service said to get rid of the alert I need to TURN OFF the speed limit setting!!! Discouraging us from using the safety features is not an improvement. I recommend the NHTSA reqiure Tesla to locate the alert in another area of the display that will be visable but not distracting and annoying.
Two issues: 1) alarming clunking noise coming from suspension. 2) center command screen froze and then crashed completely (black screen) while driving, which resulted in a loss of controls like turn signals and speed indicator.
In Feb. 2021 I purchased a new 2021 Tesla Model Y. In August I noticed a crack in the glass ceiling originating from the front edge of glass. We made an appt for 10/19 to have it replaced at the S. Seattle Tesla Service Ctr, assuming the repair would be covered under warranty. We brought the car in on Oct 19. The service rep inspected the crack and very quickly determined that the crack was a result of something hitting the ceiling such as a small rock. The rep's eagerness with her response suggested that she was familiar with this issue and was ready to deny warranty coverage. She told us we should make a claim against our auto insurance policy. We countered that we didn't believe anything had hit the ceiling, and even if it had, the glass should not have cracked that easily. Also, we also pointed out that in all the other cars we've owned we have never experienced rocks being spun up from the road hitting the ceiling. The rep still declined. We went ahead with the repair. We searched the internet for other Tesla owners whose ceiling glass had also cracked and found a number of postings on several forums of customers who had the same disappointing experience we had. It is evident that there is some kind of design flaw that results in the ceiling glass cracking easily. We inquired with a class action law firm who informed us that there is a provision in Tesla's standard warranty in which the consumer agrees not to enter into any class action lawsuits against Tesla and requires arbitration to settle disputes. We wanted to bring this issue to your attention attention because we believe Tesla is well aware of a design flaw that results in the cracking of their glass ceilings and is concealing their knowledge of the frequency of this problem.
Tesla has dog mode, camping mode, and climate on mode, which shows the interior temperature on the screen and in the app. The Telsa was in "dog mode" and displayed on the screen and app that the interior of the car was 66 degrees, but A/C was clearly not on and the interior of the car measured near 100 degrees. If I had not checked on the dogs in the car immediately, they would have died.
I was using the smart summon function to reverse my car parked under a parking roof held on pillars. When using the summon, the Tesla wheels rotated before it had reversed enough to be away from the pillar and scratched the side wall against it. Tesla refused to cover it under warranty even though there was no way I could have prevented it because it happened as soon as the car started reversing.
There is no mechanical release for the rear doors. If the vehicle loses power you cannot exit through the back doors. In a crash where the Model Y completely loses power, rear seat occupants cannot get out on their own.
On 5/5/2021 my wife was driving in the Tesla Y taking her two grandkids to school and was stopped at a traffic light. The car was in Hold mode with a car in front of her and a car behind her. The car does not have Auto Pilot. All of a sudden the car started moving forward in an accelerated mode. My wife did not push the accelerator. The Tesla hit the car in front and then went into reverse and hit the car behind. Substantial damage to all three cars. My wife and my grandkids were terrified and everyone started screaming. My wife couldn’t release her seatbelt because it tightened during the crashes. She had to call for help. This happened at 7:30am. The San Jose police took a report 21-125-0191.
I RECEIVED DELIVERY OF MY 2021 MODEL Y ON MONDAY, MARCH 29TH. AFTER 12 DAYS OF OWNERSHIP AND DRIVING APPROX. 400 MILES, ON SATURDAY, APRIL 10TH, THE VEHICLE SHUT DOWN WHILE DRIVING, LEAVING ME STRANDED IN A LANE OF TRAFFIC AT NIGHT. THE FOLLOWING ERROR MESSAGE APPEARED ON THE MONITOR: 'VEHICLE SHUTTING DOWN ' PULL OVER SAFELY'. I WAS NOT SUCCESSFUL IN COMPLETELY PULLING OVER, SINCE I HAD VERY LITTLE TIME (APPROX. 5 SECONDS) TO RESPOND BEFORE THE CAR SHOOK AND STOPPED ENTIRELY. I HAD NO ABILITY TO PLACE IT IN NEUTRAL TO MOVE IT TO A SAFER LOCATION. I WAS ABLE TO PUT MY HAZARD LIGHTS ON. AN HOUR LATER, THE CAR WAS TOWED. ACCORDING TO TESLA, IT REQUIRED A NEW REAR MOTOR AND NEW 12 VOLT BATTERY. AS A RESULT OF THE REAR MOTOR SHUTTING DOWN, AFTER 12 DAYS OF USE, THE CAR FORCE STOPPED ITSELF WITHOUT ANY OPTION TO PLACE INTO NEUTRAL LEAVING A DRIVER STRANDED AND ESSENTIALLY A "SITTING DUCK" IN THE MOST DANGEROUS SITUATIONS A DRIVER CAN BE PUT IN. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT SHOULD BE ADDRESSED - AT LEAST PROVIDE THE DRIVER LONGER THAN 5 SECONDS TO REACT &/OR PROVIDE OPTION TO PLACE VEHICLE INTO NEUTRAL TO MOVE TO SAFETY.

MY BRAND NEW 2021 TESLA MODEL Y HAS HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE TOUCHSCREEN (THE MAIN CONTROL CENTER OF THE CAR) SINCE DAY 1. IT FLICKERS OFF AND ON SPORADICALLY WHILE DRIVING (DIFFERENT SPEEDS, ROADS AND WEATHER CONDITIONS EACH TIME) AND ONCE (AFTER BEING PARKED) WOULDN'T TURN ON AT ALL UNTIL I PUT IT IN REVERSE AS ONE OF THE MANY THINGS I TRIED. THEN A GLITCHY SCREEN FULL OF STATIC APPEARED AND EVENTUALLY THE SCREEN CAME BACK ON. THERE ARE NUMEROUS ONLINE POSTS ABOUT HOW TO FIX THIS BUT NONE HAVE WORKED. THIS OCCURS WHILE DRIVING, WHICH MEANS I CAN'T SEE WARNINGS OR EVEN THE SPEED I AM TRAVELING! I HAVE TO WAIT ANOTHER WEEK, THEN DRIVE ABOUT AN HOUR TO GET TO THE REPAIR LOCATION. THEN WHO KNOWS WHAT WILL HAPPEN OR HOW LONG IT WILL TAKE. SEEMS YOU SHOULD BE LOOKING INTO ALL TESLA TOUCHSCREENS, NOT JUST THE X AND S. JUST "GOOGLE" THIS ISSUE AND YOU'LL FIND PLENTY OF COMPLAINTS. THIS IS CLEARLY NOT JUST ME.

WE PICKED UP OUT NEW MODEL Y ON 2/13/2021 FROM MINNEAPOLIS, DUE TO LIVING IN IOWA AND THAT BEING THE CLOSEST STORE. AFTER LEAVING MINNEAPOLIS, THE INTERIOR HEAT QUIT WORKING. WE MESSED WITH THE CONTROLS ALL WE COULD AND IT WOULD NOT START AGAIN. THE EXTERIOR TEMPERATURE WAS IN THE NEGATIVE TEENS. AT ONE POINT ON THE 2 HOUR 45 MINUTE DRIVE HOME THE INTERIOR CABIN TEMPERATURE WAS IN THE SINGLE DIDGETS. IT CONTINUES TO NOT WORK CORRECTLY FROM THE INTERIOR CONTROLS. I WAS UNABLE TO GET AHOLD OF ANYONE AT TESLA TO FIND A BETTER SOLUTION OTHER THAN JUST GETTING HOME. ONLINE RESEARCH SAYS THAT THIS IS AN ISSUE MANY PEOPLE HAVE COME ACROSS THAT I WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF. THE WINDOWS OF THE VEHICLE WERE BEGINNING TO FROST OVER DURING OUR DRIVE HOME. WE RESTARTED THE VEHICLE MULTIPLE TIMES, AND HAVE BEEN ABLE TO GET THE CAR TO WARM BY USING THE TESLA APP ON OUR PHONES, BUT ONCE WE START DRIVING THE HEATER STOPS WORKING. I FEEL IT IS UNACCEPTABLE TO HAVE RECEIVED A NEW VEHICLE WITH 6 MILES ON THE ODOMETER IN THE UPPER MIDWEST WITH A HEATER THAT DOES NOT WORK AS INTENDED.

MY CAR'S INTERIOR HEATING STOPPED SUDDENLY WHILE DRIVING FROM KADOKA, SD TO BIG SKY, MT ON A ROAD TRIP. AS TEMPERATURES OUTSIDE WERE SUBZERO, INTERIOR WINDOWS FROSTED OVER, PREVENTING VISIBILITY AND CABIN TEMP FELL TO ZERO. MY WIFE AND I HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO DRIVE TO NEAREST HOTEL IN GILLETTE, WY TO STAY. BY THE TIME WE ARRIVED WE HAD SYMPTOMS OF FROSTBITE AND HYPOTHERMIA AND DRIVING A CAR WITH NO VISIBILITY ON ICY ROADS WAS EXTREMELY UNSAFE. THIS HEATING ISSUE IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH NEW MODEL Y TESLAS AND HAS BEEN DOCUMENTED EXTENSIVELY IN ONLINE FORUMS: HTTPS://TESLAMOTORSCLUB.COM/TMC/THREADS/MODEL-Y-HEAT-STOPPED-WORKING.212992/ HTTPS://INSIDEEVS.COM/NEWS/464084/TESLA-MODEL-3-MODEL-Y-HEATER-PROBLEM/ HTTPS://FORUMS.TESLA.COM/DISCUSSION/179743/MODEL-Y-HEAT-PUMP-MANIFOLD-FAILURE HTTPS://FORUMS.TESLA.COM/DISCUSSION/178224/MODEL-Y-WILL-NOT-HEAT-THE-CABIN HTTPS://FORUMS.TESLA.COM/DISCUSSION/177562/CABIN-HEATER-NO-HEAT TESLA SHOULD BE ISSUING A RECALL FOR THIS AS IT IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE.
