My motorhome was part of the following recall: NHTSA #22V-273. We had that recall work performed during the summer of 2023. The problem that the recall was supposed to address (the hydraulic slide system "creeping out" on it's own) has now re-appeared. Clearly, the fix for this recall is not working. This issue needs to be re-escalated as it's not safe to drive the motorhome with the slides coming out on their own

Our unit was recalled previously under recall 22V273000 for the slide creeping out. The RV was supposedly repaired prior to leaving the factory. However, over the summer it began to creep out dangerously while driving. Again it was sent in for repairs and "fixed" Again the slide is moving out 5 or so inches while parked and when driving down the road. I am not sure how far out it would extend if I did not pull over and retract it. It also seems to be happening more frequently and moves out faster.

Purchased Dec 2021. Immediate Hydraulic leak, repaired at dealer. Jan 2022- hydraulic slides creeping out 6-8 inches. March 2022- serviced at Tiffin in Red Bay. No solution for creepy slide. July 2022- received recall for creepy slide. Nov. 2022- Feb 2023. Picked up RV on Feb 9 at service center, completed recall for creepy slide. Before leaving service center, hydraulic pump went out and had to be replaced. In April 2023, I notified service center creepy slide issue continued. From that point, made several phone calls and sent numerous emails to Lippert (slide manufacturer) and Tiffin and Connecticut Motor cars and coaches, the service center I use to search for solution. After months, Sept 26, 2023- Lippert Tech came to my house to work on problem. Following that visit on Oct 10- sent picture to Lippert, creepy slide continues. Nov 30, 2023, which is tomorrow is next visit for Lippert Tech. Cautiously optimistic since the solution is replace same cylinders from recall that this will finally fix the problem. I was told by an Tiffin rep on the phone that Lippert’s solution is to replace the cylinders that were replaced during the recall and the Tiffin rep indicated they are still seeing the same creepy slide issues after the second cylinder are replaced. Everyday I have to go out and retract the slides so there is less wear and tear on rubber seals and to protect the slide from weather, especially freezing rain or snow. And driving down road, have to worry that slides are not going to start to extend. I have had to pull over at a rest stop to retract the slides more than once. There is a webpage dedicated to creepy slide issues that other Tiffin RV owners have written about the same same problem. Tiffin needs to recall and switch, at their cost, from Lippert slides to a more functional, safe slide manufacturer so that RVer’s feel safe and do not cause harm or injury to themselves or others. Thank you.

The contact owns a 2022 Tiffin Allegro Open Road RV. The contact stated that while driving 60 MPH on the interstate, all four of the RV sliders detached. The RV was taken to a dealer where the front sliders were repaired; however, the rear sliders were not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000. The VIN was not available.

The living compartments/slides, surge out on their own, at any time, parked or while moving. Unknown how far the slides may surge out, but I've talked to one owner, who said his slide came out 8 inches. Mine has come out about 4 inches, while parked and 2+ inches, while traveling/in-motion. A wiring harness, from the engine compartment is routed over the catalytic-converter, without a heatshield. Mine has been inspected and has this problem. One owner had his wiring catch fire and had to be towed off the highway. My unit lost power, on a warm day. I was driving up some small grades, on Hwy 101, along the CA coast and my engine produced only enough power to get me up to 43 mph, at an elevation of 600 ft. I took my RV to a Ford dealer, who told me that the sparkplug wires were in too weak and that they overheat, causing misfiring and a loss of power. This was unexpected and had I been traveling in the high speed lane, as I often do, with the sudden loss of power, it could have caused a pile up / rear-end collision, because it was almost like slamming on my brakes!

Both the passenger side and drivers side "Slide" creep out about 3" to 6". This happens when RV is parked as well as traveling. On our way back from Hilton Head Island, SC to Williamsburg, VA I had to stop 4 times to pull the slides back in. they creeped out at least 6"! I have taken our Tiffin to the selling dealer several times so they can repair this issue. I am told that both Tiffin and Lippert (who makes the hydraulic system) are aware of the issue but there is not fix at this time. Our selling dealer has replaced (under warranty) the hydraulic pump, the solenoid valves, and hydraulic rams but issue is still present.

Several times over the last 10 months (since I’ve owned this), the drivers side slide creeps out on its own, pushing and bending the drivers seat. This is a common problem on most 2022 Ans some 2021 RVs withe the lippert hydraulic system.

The 2022 Open Road RV has hydraulic slides and jacks manufactured by Lippert (owned by LCI). Since taking delivery of the RV in August 2021 we have had issues with the hydraulic slide "creeping out". This means that when the slide is closed, it should stay closed until you extend it. The slide extends on its own - even while driving down the highway. We are at the Tiffin RV Service Center to have the problem resolved. I was told by the Tiffin technician that there is currently no fix for the problem and that the Lippert engineers are working on it. I called Lippert customer service and they gave me a case number and told me to have the service technician call them. They offered no solution to the problem. The slides opening on their own while driving down the road is hazardous to us and other vehicles on the road.

THE LIPPERT HYDRAULIC SLIDES ON THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE WILL OPEN WHILE GOING DOWN THE ROAD AND/OR EXPRESSWAY. WE HAVE HAD IT LOOKED AND NUMBERIOUS TIMES AT TIFFIN MOTOR HOMES IN RED BAY, ALABAMA AND NORTH TRAIL RV IN FORT MEYERES, FLORIDA. ALSO LIPPERT COMPONENTS , CHRISTOPHER PONTIUS AT LIPPERT HAS REVIEW MY CASE # 308-5947. WE BOUGHT OUR RV IN OCTOBER OF 2021 THEY HAVE NOT COME UP WITH A FIX AS OF YET. IN A BLOG THIS ISSUE HAS BECOME A SAFETY CONCERN WHICH COULD CAUSE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT AND LEAD TO DEATH WHILE TRAVELING.

The Lippert slides which are normally expanded for use when the vehicle is parked for camping and then retracted when driving, move out and expand on their own while the motorhome is being driven down the road and when it is just parked in storage. Our motorhome has been in the Tiffin repair shop to address the defective slide in February. We were told it was repaired and the issue continued after coming to pick up the vehicle on March 20 with the slide expanding outward about 6 inches in just a few hours. This presents a safety issue when the vehicle is driven as the slide will expand on its own with the driver having no way to control the expansion and keep the slide from moving outward on its own. Our greatest concern is for the safety of the motorhome passengers with unstable parts and the cars/vehicles in the lanes next to the motorhome when the slides expand randomly while traveling. There is no warning light and no way to know how far the slide may expand. We have read 100s of posts online from owners of 2022 Tiffin motorhomes who have the same issue and have yet to be given a permanent solution to the slides expanding on their own. Lippert needs to provide a permanent and safe solution to the defective slides for the safety of all considered. The attached pictures include before and after pictures to show how much the slide moved in just a couple of hours while parked.
