TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA CAMRY SOLARA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DASHBOARD WAS CRACKING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO GETTEL TOYOTA OF CHARLOTTE COUNTY (1801 TAMIAMI TRAIL, PUNTA GORDA, FL 33950) WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS UNABLE TO BE REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED DUE TO THE REPAIR COST. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 63,390.

ON MARCH 26,2020 I WENT TO DRIVE MY CAR. THE DASHBOARD WAS CRACKED, STICKY, AND MELTED THROUGHOUT. THE NEXT DAY I CALLED PRIORITY TOYOTA AND WAS TOLD (JOHN SERVICE MANAGER) THAT THEY WOULD NOT FIX IT DUE TO THE WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT NOTIFICATION-ZE6 WHICH ENDED MAY 31, 2017. ALSO, I HAD OWNED THE CAR FOR MORE THAN 10 YEARS. HE WOULD REPLACE IT AT MY COST OF APPROX. $2200 BUT HE WOULD PROVIDE AN EXACT AMOUNT WHEN I DECIDED TO FIX IT. THEN I EXPLORED THE INTERNET TO SEE THE SCOPE OF THE PROBLEM. IT CAN LEAD TO VISIBILITY PROBLEMS (GLARE) AND PROBLEMS WITH THE DASHBOARD AIRBAGS. YESTERDAY, APRIL 7, 2020 I CALLED THE TOYOTA CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE CENTER 1-888-2709371 AND SPOKE TO RANDALL WHO REPEATED WHAT JOHN HAD SAID, BUT ADDED THAT MY CAR WAS OLD AND NOT WORTH MUCH AND I HAD GOTTEN MY MONIES WORTH OUT OF IT. I ASKED WHO I COULD CALL NEXT AND HE SAID HE WAS THE END OF THE LINE. I WAS ASSIGNED A CASE #[XXX] BUT CAN'T SEE TO READ IT FOR MYSELF. THE CAR HAS REMAINED IN MY GARAGE SINCE I SAW THE PROBLEM ON MARCH 26. IT IS GETTING WORSE. IT WAS LAST DRIVEN ON MARCH 5 WITH NO PROBLEMS. YESTERDAY, JULY 26, 2015, I RECEIVED IN THE MAIL A SECOND LETTER FROM TOYOTA MOTOR SALES CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE DEPARTMENT REGARDING THE WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM - ZE6 CONCERNING THE REPLACEMENT OF THE STICKY DASHBOARD OF SOME MAKE AND MODEL. MINE IS A 2006 TOYOTA SOLARA. IT'S RIDICULOUS WHY THE WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT IS ONLY FOR THE STICKY DASHBOARD WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL AND INSIDE DOOR PANELS ARE MADE OF THE EXACT SAME MATERIAL. THESE PARTS MUST BE COVERED AS WELL ESPECIALLY WE TOUCH THESE PARTS EVERY SINGLE TIME WE USE THE VEHICLE. ON MINE, I NOTICED THE DISINTEGRATION OF THE MATERIAL SINCE LAST YEAR WHEN I WAS WIPE CLEANING THE INTERIOR OF MY SOLARA. THIS WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT MUST BE EXTENDED TO FIX THE MATERIAL ON THE STEERING WHEEL AND DOOR PANELS. I KNOW I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE EXPERIENCING THIS BECAUSE I READ BLOGS AND THERE ARE OTHERS EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUE EVEN ON LEXUS 2006. YOU SHOULD LOOK INTO THIS BECAUSE WE PAY A LOT IN PURCHASING OUR VEHICLES AND WE DESERVE OUR MONEY'S WORTH.

I'VE CONTACTED TOYOTA MAIN HEADQUARTERS COMPLAINT DEPARTMENT SEVERAL TIMES AND THEIR RESPONSE WAS THAT SINCE THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY THEY WILL NOT FIX IT AND IT IS MY RESPONSIBILITY TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM AT MY EXPENSE, I HAVE HEARD AND SEEN MANY REPORTS THAT THIS IS A SYSTEMIC PROBLEM DUE TO USE OF INFERIOR PARTS USED BY TOYOTA AND OTHER MANUFACTURERS. THE GLARE FROM THE SHINY, STICKY SURFACE CAUSES A GLARE ON THE INSIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD THAT MAKES THE CAR DANGEROUS TO DRIVE...AND A GREATER CONCERN ARE THE AIRBAGS IN THE DASH AFFECTED BY THIS SURFACE DETERIORATION. I TOOK THE CAR TO TWO LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIPS SEEKING RESOLUTION AND WAS TOLD THEY HAVE SEEM NUMEROUS INSTANCES OF THIS AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO SHORT OF MY PAYING APPROX. $1,500 TO REPLACE THE PART. CONTACT WITH TOYOTA CUSTOMER CARE HAD THEM TELLING ME I HAD DONE SOMETHING TO CAUSE THE SITUATION. TO-DATE THE CAR (MY WIFE'S VEHICLE) SITS INSIDE, UNDER A CUSTOM CAR COVER AND HAS LESS THAN 11,000 MILES...WE CONSIDER THE CAR UNSAFE TO DRIVE. *TR

STRUCK FROM REAR BY ANOTHER DRIVER AT HIGH RATE OF SPEED; WAS THROWN FORWARD INTO DRIVER SIDE INTERIOR DOOR PANEL AND DRIVER'S HEAD STRUCK THE CONVERTIBLE TOP METAL TOP-FOLDING STRUCTURE. BELIEVE THE SEAT BELT TENSIONER DEVICE FAILED TO FUNCTION PROPERLY AND THE AIR BAG FAILED TO DEPLOY, AS WELL. THE CONVERTIBLE TOP FOR THIS MODEL WAS IN THE UP POSITION AT IMPACT. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AND THE SEAT BELT CAUSED BOTH THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER TO LURCH FORWARD, CAUSING SERIOUS BODILY DAMAGE TO BOTH PARTIES. DRIVER SUSTAINED BRAIN INJURY AND SPINAL INJURY AND IS STILL RECEIVING TREATMENT AND SURGERY FOR HIS INJURIES. PASSENGER IS ALSO RECEIVING ON-GOING TREATMENT FOR SPINAL AND KNEE INJURY SUSTAINED AS THE RESULT OF THE SEAT BELT TENSIONER AND AIR BAG FAILURE, AS WELL. *TR

NO HELP WHATSOEVER. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT MANY LEXUS AUTOMOBILES HAVE A SIMILAR PROBLEM AND NOW LEARN THAT THERE ARE 73 COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SOLARA. INSPECTED THE DAMAGED AREAS, COMPLETED NO PAPER WORK AND STATED "THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR SOME TOYOTA AND LEXUS MODELS AND THERE IS NOTHINGS THAT CAN BE DONE SHORT OF THE CUSTOMER PAYING FOR A NEW DASH PAD ASSEMBLY AND IT'S INSTALLATION". MY WIFE IS AFRAID TO DRIVE HER CAR, AND WE ARE AFRAID TO SELL THE CAR FOR FEAR OF LIABILITY THAT THE AIR BAGS MIGHT NOT DEPLOY WHEN NEEDED OR DEPLOY IN AN UNINTENDED MANNER. I HAVE A TOYOTA CAMRY SOLARA 2006, WHEN I GOT MY CAR, I FEEL IN LOVE WITH IT, AND IT MADE ME SO HAPPY, I ALSO LOVE CONVERTIBLES, AND I LOVED THE WAY IT FELT, AND I COULD SIT UP HIGH INSTEAD OF LOW, CAUSE I HAVE BACK PROBLEMS. THE OTHER DAY I SAW A CRACK IN THE DASH, WHICH BROKE MY HEART, AND THE NEXT FEW DAY'S, I SAW MORE CRACKS OVER MY STEERING WHEEL .MY CAR IS KEPT UNDER A GARAGE. I WANTED TO KEEP THIS CARE FOREVER, CAUSE IT WAS SO PERFECT FOR ME, NOW THIS HAS REALLY UPSET ME, CAUSE MY BEAUTIFUL CAR HAS CRACKS IN IT NOW, AND I WONDER WHAT ELSE IS GOING TO HAPPEN. 2006 SOLARA HAS DEVELOPED CRACKS IN THE VINYL COVERING OF THE DASH PAD....INCLUDING AREAS AROUND THE AIR BAGS MOUNTED IN THE DASH. CAR HAS 11,000 MILES, STORED INSIDE AND UNDER A CUSTOM COVER. IN ADDITION TO THE CRACKS, THE VINYL COVERING IS VERY STICKY TO THE TOUCH AND EMITS A STRONG ODOR. TOYOTA DECLINED TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEM ON TWO OCCASIONS WHILE UNDER WARRANTY AND HAS NOW WASHED THEIR HANDS OF THE ISSUE DUE TO A LAPSED WARRANTY. THE PROBLEM IS AFFECTING HUNDREDS OF OWNERS OF BOTH TOYOTA AND LEXUS MODELS YET TOYOTA ASSERTS THE PROBLEMS ARE COSMETIC. I WAS TRAVELING NORTH ON RTE. 209, PASSING THE GREEN LIGHT. WHEN A FORD FOCUS TRAVELING SOUTH ON RTE. 209 MADE A LEFT TURN, CAUSING A COLLISION WITH MY CAR. I IMPACTED HIS CAR IN REAR SECTION AROUND THE TIRE, BENDING HIS TIRE.THE AIR BAGS IN THE TOYOTA DID NOT DEPLOY WHICH I BELIEVE CAUSED MORE DAMAGE TO MY BACK.THE OTHER DRIVER WAS WRITTEN A CITATION (VR3322) IN THE PA VIOLATIONS SECTION. MY WIFE WAS ABLE TO DRIVE CAR TO OUR HOUSE 3-4 MILES AWAY.I WAS TRANSPORTED TO POCONO MEDICAL CENTER. THEIR EXAM WAS A JOKE. I AM GOING TO SEE AN ORTHOPEDIC DOCTOR ON 11/12/2013. THE PAIN HAS INCREASED A LOT SINCE ACCIDENT. I BELIEVE IF THE AIR BAGS HAD DEPLOYED I MIGHT HAVE BEEN SPARED MORE PAIN. I AM INSISTING ON A CAT SCAN, MRI, & XRAYS ON MY BACK TO COMPARE TO PREVIOUS TESTS DONE IN 2009. I FEEL TOYOTA SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR DEFECTIVE AIR BAGS. NEW TOYOTA SOLARA. VEHICLE PURCHASED MAY 30 2006. FRONT BUMPER FELL OFF THE CAR ON JULY 7, 2006. DEALER NOTICED A VERY SMALL DEPRESSION NEAR WHEEL WELL, AND SAYS THAT SOMEONE MAY HAVE BUMPED THE CAR IN A PARKING LOT. REFERRED ME TO PRIVATE BODY SHOP WHERE I WAS CHARGED $586.00. DIRECTOR OF LOCAL AAA INSPECTED CAR. THEY BELIEVE THAT THERE IS NO WAY THAT THE BUMPER SHOULD HAVE DETACHED. I WAS FORTUNATE THAT IT FELL OFF IN MY DRIVEWAY AND NOT ON THE FWY. AAA REQUESTED THAT I FILE NTSB REPORT, AND INSURANCE ADJUSTER IS EXAMINING THE CAR AND PHOTOGRAPHING THE BUMPER, WHICH WAS HELD TOGETHER BY TWO LITTLE PLASTIC BRACKETS. BODY SHOP SAYS THAT SOME OF THE NEW TOYOTAS HAVE BODY DEFECTS - THINGS THAT COME LOOSE. HE IS WONDERING IF THERE IS A PACKAGING AND SHIPPING PROBLEM THAT CAUSES THE BUMPERS TO GET LOOSE. HE ADDED 6 CLIPS AND BRACKETS TO THE BUMPER. THE NEW FRONT BUMPER IS NOW MUCH MORE STABLE THAN THE ORIGINAL BACK BUMPER. *JB

THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE GAUGE BECAME STUCK. THE LCD GAUGES CAN'T BE SEEN WHEN DRIVING IN BRIGHT SUNLIGHT.*JB
