I, ROBERT, WAS SITTING IN THE CAR WHEN MY WIFE CAME OUT OF THE STORE AND GOT INTO IT. I PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND STARTED THE CAR. IT TOOK OFF AT A VERY HIGH RATE OF SPEED. THE CAR LUNGED AHEAD AND STEADILY PICKED UP SPEED. THE CAR HIT A LADY WALKING WITH HER GROCERIES, THEN HIT A PARKED VEHICLE AND PUSHED IT INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE AIR BAG NEVER DEPLOYED. THE BRAKES WOULD NOT WORK. THE ONLY THING THAT MADE IT STOP WAS THAT IT HIT A LARGE SUV. MY WIFE DID NOT HAVE TIME TO FASTEN HER SEAT BELT, THUS SUSTAINING INJURIES. IT ALL HAPPENED IN A MATTER OF SECONDS. THERE WAS A POLICE REPORT FILED. I WAS NOT CHARGED WITH THE ACCIDENT. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE ON MAY 24, 2017 AT A PUBLIC AUCTION IN WASHINGTON, DC. THAT MEANS THAT THESE VEHICLES ARE STILL BEING SOLD AS IF THERE IS NOT A PROBLEM WITH THEM. THE VEHICLE HAD ABOUT 240,000 MILES WHEN I PURCHASED IT. WHEN WE CHECKED THE INTERNET, WE FOUND THAT THERE WERE HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS. BEWARE!!!

BOUGHT CAMRY 05 NEW AND HAD INTERMITTENT VIBRATION IN THE FRONT . HAVE HAD ALL MOST ALL FRONT END REPLACED, MOTOR AND TRAN MOUNTS, CV DRIVE LINES .BEARING,ETC . I HAD THE CAR DOWN AT THE TOYOTA DEALER MANY TIME OVER THE YEARS THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY THING BAD ... I MY SELF CHECKED OUT FOR LOSE PARTS FOUND NOTHING TILL I MOVED LEFT SIDE CV DRIVE LINE AND I COULD MOVE THE DRIVE LINE UP AND DOWN AND AROUND THAT GOES INTO THE TRANSFER-CASE. I MADE A APPOINTMENT AGAIN TO THE TOYOTA DEALER AND HAD THE SHOP FOREMAN LOOK A THIS MOVEMENT..HE SAID THIS WAS NORMAL AND MOVES LESS THEN MOST 05 CAMRYS. THIS VIBRATION HAPPEN AT 40 AND UP.

THE CONTACT HAD TO CRASH THE VEHICLE AGAINST THE SIDEWALK AND THE ONLY THING THAT STOPPED THE VEHICLE WAS THAT THE RIM HAD NO TIRE. THE POLICE DEPARTMENT WAS PRESENT, BUT NO POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE INSURANCE COMPANY WAS NOTIFIED OF THE CRASH. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER SENT A THIRD PARTY COMPANY TO INVESTIGATE THE CRASH AND THEY FOUND NO EVIDENCE OF MANUFACTURING DEFECT. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE SAME FAILURE OCCURRED SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.

THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME AFTER THE DIAGNOSIS, THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDS TO BE REPLACED DUE TO IT BEING "FAULTY" AND CLOGS UP DUE TO MOISTURE GETTING INTO THE VALVES. THE TOTAL COST FOR THE PART ITSELF + LABOR AND TAXES TOTALED 1155.99! UP UNTIL NOW, I HAVEN'T HAD ANY ISSUE WITH THE CAR EXCEPT THIS. THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE IF IT DOES NOT GET RESOLVED. MAY 23, CALLED TOYOTA TO FILE A COMPLAINT AND HOPEFULLY GET ASSISTANCE. WE WERE DENIED ASSISTANCE SINCE OUR WE DO NOT MAINTAIN SERVICE THROUGH A TOYOTA DEALER AND THE CAR IS 10,000 MILES OUT OF POWER TRAIN WARRANTY. FOWLER TOYOTA CHARGED US $1061.00 TO DIAGNOSE, AND REPAIR THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL SYSTEM. OUR CAR IS A 2005, TOYOTA CAMRY. VIN[XXX]. RIGHT SIDE MIRROR WAS RIPPED FROM CAR. REQUIRED APPROX. 10 FEET TO STOP. ENGINE DID NOT REMAIN AT HIGH RPM. (A/C MAY HAVE BEEN "ON". ENGINE WAS "COLD" - I.E., 1ST TIME STARTED THAT DAY; HOWEVER AMBIENT TEMPERATURE WAS IN MID-UPPER 70'S.) LATER THAT SAME MORNING, THE ENGINE AGAIN WENT TO HIGH RPM SHORTLY AFTER SHIFTING INTO REVERSE TO BACK OUT OF PARKING SPACE. DRIVER WAS PREPARED AND ABLE TO IMMEDIATELY STOP CAR. AIR CONDITIONING WAS NOT ENGAGED THIS TIME. TOOK CAR TO ORIGINAL DEALER SAME DAY. DEALER STATES NO FAULT CODES IN COMPUTER. "SOME" CARBON BUILD UP ON THROTTLE BODY. PERFORMED SAFETY CHECK INSPECTION. SERVICED/CLEANED THROTTLE BODY, FUEL INJECTORS, REPLACED TRANSMISSION FLUID, AND CLEANED/ADJUSTED REAR BRAKES. IN THE 3 DAYS SINCE THE ORIGINAL INCIDENTS AND SERVICE, PHENOMENON HAS NOT REPEATED. CAR HAS APPROX. 62KMILES AND HAS RECEIVED ALL WARRANTY AND REGULAR, PRESCRIBED SERVICE AT ORIGINAL DEALER ON SCHEDULE. CAR HAS HAD NO MAJOR REPAIRS DURING ITS HISTORY. *TR

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 55,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 60,000.

MY 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY XLE V6 CAR HAS SERIOUS TRANSMISSION ISSUES. IT HESITATES AND TAKES SEVERAL SECONDS AT SLOW SPEEDS TO FIND A GEAR TO SHIFT INTO. THE ENGINE REVS AND THE RPMS INCREASE BUT THE TRANSMISSION DOES NOT ENGAGE. THIS IS ESPECIALLY TROUBLESOME WHEN MAKING TURNS AND MAKES ME VULNERABLE TO BEING REAR ENDED IN RIGHT HAND TURNS, BUT EXPOSES ME TO BEING BROADSIDED IN LEFT HAND TURNS. JUST LAST WEEK DURING A LEFT TURN MY CAR WOULD NOT ENGAGE AND I WAS EXTREMELY CLOSE TO HAVING THE PASSENGER SIDE WHERE MY CHILD SITS HIT! THIS CAR ALSO BUCKS SEVERAL TIMES WHEN ATTEMPTING TO SHIFT AT SPEEDS BETWEEN 25-35 MPH. THIS CAR HAS TROUBLE CLIMBING SMALL HILLS AND ALSO JERKS AND DOWNSHIFTS WHEN GOING DOWN HILLS, EVEN AT SLOW SPEEDS WHEN MY FOOT NEVER LETS PRESSURE OFF THE GAS PEDAL. AS I SAID THE MOST TROUBLESOME ISSUE IS WHEN IT HAS DIFFICULTY SELECTING A GEAR AT LOWER SPEEDS. MORE THAN JUST AN ANNOYANCE, IT IS INDEED A SAFETY ISSUE AND I AM NOW AFRAID THAT I MAY BE HIT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE DURING LEFT HAND TURNS. THIS HAPPENS EVERY DAY THAT I DRIVE MY CAMRY. WHEN TELLING THE DEALER THE FIRST TIME OF THESE ISSUES HE BASICALLY SAID GET USED TO IT. THE NEXT TIME I TOOK MY CAMRY IN FOR SERVICE AND COMPLAINED AGAIN ABOUT THE ISSUE THEY SAID THERE WAS A SERVICE BULLETIN PUT OUT BY TOYOTA ABOUT RESETTING THE COMPUTER AND THEY THEN PERFORMED THIS MAINTENANCE. FORTUNATELY I DID NOT PAY FOR THIS SERVICE AS IT DID NOTHING TO HELP REMEDY THE SITUATION. I WILL BE TAKING IT IN FOR ANOTHER OIL CHANGE SOON AND COMPLAINING YET AGAIN ABOUT THIS ISSUE! *TR

DRIVING ON SNOW PACKED ROADS TO SALT LAKE CITY. AT AROUND 65 MILES OF DRIVING THE TRANSMISSION WENT OUT IN MY TOYOTA CAMRY. WE HAD NO WARNING AT ALL, UNTIL THE CAR WOUD NO LONGER DRIVE AND THE INSIDE WAS FILLING UP WITH SMOKE. WE HAD TO HAVE THE CAMRY TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP AND THEN TOWED BACK TO VERNAL UT. WE TOOK IT TO A TRANSMISSION REPIAR SHOP AND THEY TOLD US, THAT A ROD HAD COME OUT OF THE TRANSMISSION AND THE ONLY WAY IT WOULD DO THAT, IS TO GO FROM A WET ROAD TO A DRY ROAD. WE WERE ON SNOWY ROADS THE WHOLE TIME. WE HAVE NOT REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION, SINCE IT WILL COST US NEARLY $5,0000. WE DON'T HAVE THAT KIND OF MONEY AND IT IS NOT OUR FAULT. WE FEEL THAT THIS IS A MANUFACTOR DEFECT ON THE TRANSMISSION. NOW I HAVE A 2005 CAMRY, THAT I CAN NOT DRIVE AND AM STILL PAYING FOR. I WAS IN A MULTI-STOREY CAR PARK AND I SPOTTED A FREE SPACE 20 YARDS AHEAD. I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR, AND THE VEHICLE BEGUN TO LOSE SPEED NORMALLY. I APPLIED THE BRAKE GENTLY TO TURN RIGHT INTO AN EMPTY SPOT. I WAS BRAKING TO A HALT AT AN APPROPRIATE DISTANCE FROM A RETAINING WALL WHEN SUDDENLY, WITH NO WARNING, THE TOYOTA LURCHED FORWARD AT AN INCREDIBLE RATE OF ACCELERATION, STRUCK THE WALL THEN BOUNCED BACK SEVERAL FEET AND THE ENGINE CUT OUT. I SUFFERED SEVERE NECK TRAUMA, DUE FIRST TO THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION AND THEN THE IMPACT. THE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY DESPITE THE FACT THAT THE DAMAGE TO THE FRONT OF THE CAR WAS ACCORDING TO AN EXPERT CONSISTENT WITH AN IMPACT SPEED OF 30 TO 35 MPH. EARLIER IN THE SAME TRIP, I WAS STOPPED AT TRAFFIC LIGHTS WITH THE CAR IN DRIVE AND MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. SUDDENLY THE CAR VIBRATED AND LURCHED AGAINST THE BRAKE, TRYING TO MOVE AHEAD. I HAD TO BRAKE HARD TO PREVENT IT FROM DOING SO. THE LIGHTS CHANGED AND I PROCEEDED TOWARDS THE PARKING GARAGE WHERE THE ACCIDENT DESCRIBED ABOVE SUBSEQUENTLY OCCURRED. THE DAMAGE TO THE FRONT OF THE CAR HAS NOT YET BEEN FIXED AND THE CAR HAS NOT BEEN USED SINCE THE ACCIDENT. I REPORTED THIS ACCIDENT TO TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE WHO ARRANGED FOR SOMEONE FROM THEIR LOCAL SERVICE COMPANY TO EXAMINE THE VEHICLE AT THE BODY SHOP WHERE IT WAS LOCATED. THE MAIN CONCLUSION OF THEIR EXAMINATION WAS THAT THEY FOUND NO PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES. IN FACT, MY COMPLAINT WAS NOT ABOUT THE BRAKES, WHICH HAD ALWAYS WORKED PERFECTLY NORMALLY. I HAVE BEEN A LOYAL TOYOTA OWNER FOR 20 YEARS AND I WOULD LIKE TO TELL YOU ABOUT MY LATEST EXPERIENCE WITH MY 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY. AFTER 91,000 MILES, I NEEDED TO GET A NEW TRANSMISSION. I TYPICALLY DROVE MY TOYOTA TO 150,000 MILES AND NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE POWER TRAIN. I CONTACTED TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE, THEY INITIALLY SAID THEY MIGHT BE ABLE TO HELP ME BUT NEVER FOLLOWED UP. I TRIED TO CONTACT CUSTOMER SERVICE, BUT COULD NOT GET THROUGH. I RECENTLY HAD MY CAR REPAIRED FOR $3300 AT AAMCO TO GET IT DRIVABLE. THEY HAD TO FIX THE TRANSMISSION AND THE WIRING TO GET THE CAR WORKING AGAIN. SEVERAL ELECTRICAL CONNECTIVITY ISSUES EXISTING; AND STILL REMAIN. THE ONLY GOOD NEWS WAS THE ECM WAS OPERATING CORRECTLY. NOW THAT AAMCO FIXED MY CAR, I'VE NOTICED THAT MY CARS ABOUT 400 - 600 RPM LOWER THAN BEFORE. OTHER PROBLEM WITH THE CAR INCLUDE DASH LIGHTS GOING OUT AFTER 4 YEARS. CLEARLY THIS IS NOT A GOOD SITUATION WHEN IT TAKES SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLARS OF LABOR TO REPLACE A $2 LIGHT BULB. HAVE SPOKEN WITH TOYOTA SERVICE MANAGERS IN HENDERSON, NV, SANTA MONICA AND THOUSAND OAKS, CA RE: THE TRANSMISSION AND THEY ALL HAVE SIMILAR RESPONSES... I PURCHASED A 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY XLE- 6 CYLINDER, NEW IN FALL OF 2004. AT PRESENT I HAVE UNDER 22,000 MILES ON IT. DURING MY LIMITED DRIVING OF THIS VEHICLE I HAVE EXPERIENCED AT LEAST 5 EPISODES OF UNINTENDED ACCELERATION. I RECENTLY DISCOVERED THAT ANOTHER FAMILY MEMBER HAD A SIMILAR EXPERIENCE WHILE DRIVING MY CAR. THE LAST EXPERIENCE HAPPENED ON 12/16/09. I HAD A PASSENGER IN THE CAR WITH ME AT THE TIME. I HAVE A 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY SE V6 3.3L . 31,000 MILES. PURCHASED NEW. SINCE NEW THIS VEHICLE HAS HAD AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTING. IT SEEMS TO GET CONFUSED ON WHAT GEAR TO SHIFT INTO WHEN YOU LET OFF THE ACCELERATOR AT SPEEDS BETWEEN 20 AND 45. YOU CAN FEEL THE TRANSMISSION JUMP BACK AND FORTH BETWEEN GEARS. IT IS NOT SUTTLE AT ALL. IT FEELS LIKE THE TRANS IS ON ITS WAY OUT. I KNOW QUITE A BIT ABOUT CARS, ENOUGH TO KNOW EVENTUALLY THIS TRANS WILL FAIL IF IT CONTINUES TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM. WHENEVER I APPLIED THE BRAKE PEDAL AT LOW SPEEDS BETWEEN 1-30 MPH AS APPROACHING AN INTERSECTION, A STOP SIGN OR AN IMMEDIATE BRAKE THE TRANSMISSION SWITCHES GEARS, AND THE RPMS INCREASED. SINCE THE FIRST MONTH I PURCHASED MY 2005 4-CYLINDER CAMRY THE ACCELERATION PEDAL DOES NOT IMMEDIATELY ENGAGE AND THE TRANSMISSION OCCASIONALLY SLIPS THEN MAKES CONTACT FOR ACCELERATION. ESPECIALLY TROUBLESOME IN TIGHT AREAS SUCH AS PARKING LOTS WHERE I HAVE HAD CLOSE CALLS WITH OTHER VEHICLES CLOSE TO HITTING ME DUE TO THIS HESITATION. MY TOYOTA DEALER AFTER ABOUT 4 - 5 VISITS HAVE STATED THAT SINCE OTHER CAMRY'S IN PARKING LOT DO THE SAME, IT IS O.K. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE SINCE THERE HAVE BEEN TIMES ON TURNING LEFT OR RIGHT THAT TRANSMISSION HAS SLIPPED MAKING IT HARD TO MOVE ALONG. THE DEALERSHIP DID REPLACE A SOLENOID VALVE AFTER CONTINUALLY BADGERING THEM AND THAT DIDN'T HELP. THEY SAY PROBLEM COULD BE IN COMPUTER BOX TO TRANSMISSION (THAT CANNOT BE ACCESSED BY TECHNICIANS) IS SET AT FACTORY AND CANNOT BE ADJUSTED. ALL THIS COMPUTERIZED HAS MADE IT DIFFICULT TO MAKE ANY CORRECTIONS THAT A CUSTOMER COMPLAINS ABOUT. THE OTHER ISSUE IS THE THUMPING NOISE ON DRIVER AND PASSENGER WINDOWS MAKE WHEN GOING DOWN. I AM CURRENTLY THE OWNER OF A 2007 LE 4 CYLINDER CAMRY. AT APPROXIMATELY 76K MILES MY TRANS STARTED ACTING FUNNY AS IF IT DID NOT WANT TO PULL AND WAS LEAKING TRANS FLUID. I BOUGHT A BRAND NEW 2005 4-CYLINDER CAMRY IN 2004 AFTER OWING A 1988 WITH 256,000 MILES AND BEING EXTREMELY HAPPY WITH IT. HOWEVER, I WAS DISSATISFIED WITH MY NEW CAMRY ONLY AFTER HAVING IT FOR A WEEK WHEN I STARTED NOTICING HOW IT WOULD HESITATE FROM TAKING OFF FROM A DEAD STOP AND WHEN TURNING CORNERS. WHEN FIRST CONTACTING HIM, HE TOO MADE IT SOUND LIKE IT WAS VERY IMPORTANT AND HE WOULD IMMEDIATELY TAKE CARE OF THIS ISSUE AND GET BACK WITH US. MY WIFE AND I PURCHASED A 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY XLE V6 5SP AUTO IN NOV 2004. SHORTLY AFTER TAKING DELIVERY, WE STARTED TO NOTICE HESITATION IN THE TRANSMISSION WHILE TRYING TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOP AND AFTER SLOWING DOWN IN TRAFFIC. I ALSO CONTACTED 800 NUMBER FOR TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY WERE NO HELP. THEY DID MENTION THAT THERE WAS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN FOR SAME PROBLEM ON THE CAMRY V-6. IT SEEMS THAT THE 4-CYLINDER HAS SAME PROBLEM BUT NOT ENOUGH COMPLAINTS TO WARRANT A TECHNICAL BULLETIN.

DEALER REPORTED NOTHING COULD BE DONE. TOYOTA REPORTED THEY WERE LOOKING AT THE PROBLEM AND WILL REPORT ANY DEVELOPMENTS.*AK

CONTACT WITH THE DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN FRUITLESS AS FAR AS RESOLVING THE PROBLEM. I WAS TOLD THAT THEY ARE AWARE OF COMPLAINTS, BUT TRY THE COMPANY LINE THAT IT WAS ENGINEERED TO PERFORM THIS WAY. BASICALLY, THE TRANSMISSION WILL NOT GEAR DOWN SATISFACTORILY, UNTIL IT COMES TO A COMPLETE STOP. A SLOW TURN AND THEN ACCELERATION WILL 'ALWAYS' RESULT IN 'LAGGING' OF GEAR CHANGES, THEN IT WILL FINALLY GEAR DOWN AND LURCH INTO THE LOWER GEAR. IT'S AGGRAVATING AND CAN BE DOWNRIGHT DANGEROUS IN TIGHT CROWDED FREEWAY DRIVING CONDITIONS WHERE IT'S NOT UNUSUAL TO HAVE TO SLOW DOWN AND THEN SPEED UP WITHOUT GETTING REAR-ENDED.

1. WE PURCHASED A NEW 2004 TOYOTA CAMRY XLE FROM BEAVERTON TOYOTA (BEAVERTON, OREGON) 2. HERE ARE THE THREE PROBLEMS: A. WHEN GOING DOWN A HILL, ON DRY PAVEMENT, WITH THE BRAKES BEING "FEATHERED", WITH NO ADDITIONAL FOOT PEDAL PRESSURE, THE BRAKES SUDDENLY ENGAGE AND THE BRAKE PEDAL PUSHES BACK ON THE DRIVERS FOOT. B. AFTER BRAKING AND THEN ACCELERATING, THE BRAKES DO NOT RELEASE AFTER THE BRAKE PEDAL HAS BEEN RELEASED. THIS CAUSES THE ENGINE TO HESITATE UNTIL THE BRAKES RELEASE. THIS HAPPENS ESPECIALLY IN HEAVY STOP AND GO TRAFFIC. C. WITH VERY LITTLE PRESSURE ON THE ACCELERATOR, THE ENGINE HESITATES WHICH CAUSES THE TRANSMISSION TO DOWNSHIFT MULTIPLE TIMES RUNNING THE RPMS UP TO THE REDLINE. 3. I HAVE REPORTED THESE PROBLEMS TO BEAVERTON TOYOTA SERVICE DEPARTMENT MULTIPLE TIMES AND THE HILLSBORO (OREGON) TOYOTA SERVICE DEPARTMENT ONE TIME. THEY ADMIT THERE ARE PROBLEMS, BUT SINCE TOYOTA HAS NOT ISSUED A "SERVICE BULLETIN" THEY CAN DO NOTHING TO FIX THE PROBLEMS. I HAVE DRIVEN ANOTHER 2004 CAMRY AT THE HILLSBORO TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND NONE OF THE PROBLEMS LISTED ABOVE OCCURRED.
