Passenger air bags light is ALWAYS ON whether someone sitting in the spot or not. Alerts with light to identify a problem. 2. Paint is peeling 0ff of vehicle all over. In addition, leather seats are also peeling in the front and back seats.
Car flipped 3 times, it is a mangled mess and not one airbag deployed. This caused injuries to the driver, if any passengers would have been in the vehicle they would have been killed.

THE TOYOTA OWNER'S MANUAL STATES THAT THE "AIR BAG OFF" INDICATOR MEANS THAT THE PASSENGER AIR BAG SYSTEM IS DISABLED. I CHECKED ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND THAT THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM BUT I DID NOT SEE THAT TOYOTA HAS TAKEN ANY ACTION. OBVIOUSLY, THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE THAT SHOULD BE ADDRESSED BEFORE SOMEONE GET INJURED OR KILLED. IF THERE IS A RECALL NOW OR IN THE FUTURE, PLEASE LET ME KNOW.

I TOLD HIM IT WAS NOT ON WHEN I BROUGHT THE CAR IN AND NOW IT IS ON. I ONLY HAVE APPROX., 48,000 ON THIS CAR AND I PURCHASED IT NEW IN NOV. 2005. HE DID NOT FIX IT AND I AM CONCERNED THAT IF I GET INTO A ACCIDENT THE AIRBAG SYSTEM WILL NOT WORK. I DO NOT HAVE THE $700.00 TO GET IT FIXED. AGAIN, NO CONTROL OF ANY ASPECT OF CAR - COULD NOT PUT IN NEUTRAL, GEAR SHIFT JUST "FLOATED" OVER ALL GEARS WHEN TRYING TO USE! WOULD LIKE FOR NHTSA TO INSPECT GAS PEDAL FOR "WHISKERS" OR OTHER PROBLEMS THAT LED TO THIS. THE DEALER WROTE (REPORT IS IN THE COMPUTER HOLDINGS OF TOYOTA MOTOR SALES, U.S.A.): "FOUND THE SEAT TRACK FLOOR COVERING HAS COME LOOSE WHICH ONCE THE SEAT HAS MOVED IT CAUSED THE COVER TO [BE] PUSHED AGAINST THE AIRBAG CONNECTOR UNDERNEATH THE SEAT. THIS CAUSES THE LIGHT TO COME ON DUE TO NO COMMUNICATION AT THE DRIVERS SIDE AIRBAG SQUIB CONNECTOR. (CODE B1821)" THE DEALER REPAIRED THE WIRING. IT IS EVIDENT NOW THAT EACH TIME MY WIFE OR I MOVED THE DRIVER'S SEAT THERE WAS A POSSIBILITY OF DISRUPTION OF THE AIRBAG ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT. THE SEAT IS DRIVEN BY AN ELECTRIC MOTOR, SO THERE WAS NO CHANCE WE DISRUPTED THE WIRING AS MIGHT HAPPEN WITH A MANUALLY READJUSTED SEAT. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY DEFECT CAUSED BY POOR ENGINEERING DESIGN AND NOT A "WEAR AND TEAR" ISSUE. THE AIRBAG ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT SHOULD HAVE BEEN DESIGNED SO AS TO HAVE BEEN SAFE FROM DISRUPTION BY MOVEMENT OF THE DRIVER'S-SIDE SEAT. ON APRIL 9, 2014, TOYOTA ANNOUNCED A RECALL FOR AN AIRBAG ELECTRICAL CONNECTION DESIGN DEFECT--IN THE STEERING COLUMN RATHER THAN UNDER THE SEAT--SIMILAR TO WHAT WE EXPERIENCED. AFTER DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 800 MILES NOTICED A LITTLE BODY MISALIGNMENT AND ON THE 18TH OF OCTOBER I DROVE TO THE BODY SHOP TO HAVE THEM LOOK AT THE ALIGNMENT PROBLEM AND CHECK THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT. THEY ARE WORKING ON THE BODY ISSUE, WHICH I COULD CARE LESS ABOUT, HOWEVER, AFTER DOING A SCAN OF THE CAR SYSTEMS, WITH THE HAND HELD SCANNER, THE AIR BAG WARNING IS NOT A SENSOR ISSUE DUE TO THE COLLISION WITH THE DEER, BUT IT IS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT SENSOR/WIRING WHICH SHOULD BE A TOYOTA ISSUE. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS AND THERE ARE SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ONLINE, BUT I HAVE NOT SEEN A RE-CALL FROM TOYOTA, THE FIX FOR THIS SITUATION IS TO REPLACE THE PASSENGER SEAT AT A COST OF ABOUT $3400.00. I BOUGHT A TOYOTA CAMRY 2006 FROM MAPLE HILL AUTO GROUP IN KALAMAZOO, MI IN MARCH OF 2011. THE CAR HAD 49,202 MILES ON IT AT THE TIME. WHEN I TEST DROVE IT, I NOTICED THE AIRBAG LIGHT WAS ON. I EXPRESSED CONCERN TO THE SALESMAN WHO INDICATED "OH, THAT'S JUST A SENSOR ISSUE, THAT CAN BE FIXED QUICKLY." I PURCHASED THE CAR WITH SOME RESERVATION ABOUT THE LIGHT. WHEN I PICKED UP THE CAR, THE LIGHT WAS OFF (THEY HAD TAKEN IT TO THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP TO FIX). EVERYTHING WAS FINE FOR ABOUT 5 MONTHS IN AUGUST WHEN THE LIGHT CAME BACK ON AGAIN. I RETURNED IT TO MAPLE HILL AUTO AND WAS TOLD BY THE SALESMAN THAT "THE AIRBAG LIGHT WAS NOT PART OF POWERTRAIN WARRANTY AND THEREFORE WOULD NOT BE FIXED. I THEN TOOK IT TO THE TOYOTA DEALER WHO INFORMED ME THAT THEY COULD "TWEAK"IT AGAIN BUT IN EVIDENTLY THE ENTIRE FRONT SEAT MAY HAVE TO BE REMOVED AT A COST OF ABOUT $3000, WHICH OF COURSE I DON'T HAVE. SO THEY "TWEAKED" IT AGAIN AND IT WAS OKAY FOR A WHILE. NOW, JULY 2012, IT HAS COME BACK ON AGAIN. ON MY SALES AGREEMENT WITH MAPLE HILL AUTO IT STATES "DEALER WILL REPAIR AIR BAG LIGHT ISSUE." OBVIOUSLY, THIS HAS NOT HAPPENED. THE CAR ONLY HAD 49,000 MILES ON IT WHEN THE LIGHT WAS ON ORIGINALLY. THE ORIGINAL WARRANTY FOR CAMRYS IS SUPPOSED TO BE 60,0000 MILES FOR THIS ISSUE. I FEEL THAT I HAVE BEEN SCAMMED AND LIED TO BY THE DEALER WHO ONLY TOOK IT TO TOYOTA TO GET THE LIGHT TEMPORARILY OFF SO I WOULD BUY THE CAR. I BELIEVE THEY KNEW IT WAS A MORE SERIOUS ISSUE BECAUSE I BELIEVE TOYOTA TOLD THEM IT WOULD BE A RECURRING PROBLEM. NOW I FEEL STUCK AS I CANNOT AFFORD TO REPLACE A SEAT AND I DON'T FEEL A 2006 CAMRY I PAID $12,350 FOR SHOULD HAVE THIS ISSUE. AREN'T THEY SUPPOSED TO BE ABOUT SAFETY? THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THEY WOULD NOT COVER THE COST OF THE SENSOR REPLACEMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 6 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 90,060. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

BY LOOKING AT THE SCENE ANYBODY CAN COME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT SOME KIND OF MALFUNCTIONING OF THE ACCELERATION MECHANISM HAS HAPPENED. IN BOTH OF THESE MAJOR ACCIDENTS, NONE OF THE AIR-BAGS DEPLOYED. THE SAME CAR HAD ANOTHER SIMILAR INCIDENT BUT NO PROPERTY WAS DAMAGED AND THEREFORE, THAT INCIDENT WAS NOT REPORTED TO POLICE BUT A CO-WORKER DROVE THE VEHICLE OUT OF THE RETAINING POND. THERE IS A SHORT IN THE FLOOR WIRING. TOTAL WILL COST $3450. THE DRIVERS SEAT HAS TO BE REPLACED ALONG WITH THE WIRING. IF NOT REPLACED THE AIRBAG WILL NOT GO OFF. *TR

2006 CAMRY....WHILE INCHING MY CAR FORWARD IN MY DRIVEWAY TO POSITION THE CAR TO BACK IT UP, I WAS APPLYING THE BRAKE AND MOVING AT A SPEED OF NO MORE THAN 2-3 MPH. THE CAR STARTED TO ACCELERATE WHICH KEPT INCREASING. I WAS TAKEN BY SURPRISE, DIDN'T KNOW WHAT WAS HAPPENING. I LOOKED DOWN AT THE ACCELERATOR TO MAKE SURE IT WASN'T ME. MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE. BEFORE I KNEW IT, I HIT HEAD ON THE VERY LARGE TREE AT THE END OF MY DRIVEWAY. I WAS APPROXIMATELY 4 FT FROM THE TREE WHEN THE ENGINE STARTED REVVING. I HAD MY SEAT BELT ON, WHICH SAVED ME FROM SMACKING MY FACE ON THE STEERING WHEEL. MY HEAD JERKED FORWARD AND I HAD A TREMENDOUS HEADACHE AFTERWARDS WITH PAIN IN MY NECK. THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. I PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND MY HUSBAND REACHED IN THE WINDOW AND TURNED THE ENGINE OFF. WHEN I STARTED IT UP AGAIN, THERE WAS NO PROBLEM AND I CAREFULLY MOVED IT AWAY FROM THE TREE. THE FORCE WITH WHICH I HIT THE TREE PUSHED IN MY FRONT END AND ALSO DID SOME DAMAGE UNDER THE HOOD SINCE THE POWER STEERING FLUID WAS LEAKING. I AM CURRENTLY WAITING FOR THE INSURANCE ADJUSTOR TO CHECK THIS OUT. HE DID SAY THAT IF HE DOESN'T EXPERIENCE THE SAME PROBLEM, HE DOESN'T KNOW WHAT CAN BE DONE BY TOYOTA. NEEDLESS TO SAY, I AM ANXIOUS FOR THE RESULTS AND WILL NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING MY CAR. *JB
TL* - THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED UNEXPECTEDLY WHILE DRIVING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT MOST OF THE INCIDENTS OCCURRED WHILE THE HE WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE. THE CONTACT STATED THE HE HAD FOUR MINOR CRASHES DUE TO THE VEHICLE ACCELERATING. IN THE LATEST INCIDENT THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED ACROSS A FIVE LANE HIGHWAY AND CRASHED INTO A UTILITY POLE. THE WEATHER CONDITIONS WERE DRY, AND WAS NOT AWARE OF THE VEHICLE'S SPEED. THE DRIVER WAS INJURED, AND TAKEN IN AN AMBULANCE TO THE HOSPITAL. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED BURNS FROM THE SEAT BELTS. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE HAD PREVIOUSLY TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. THE AIRBAGS ON MY TOYOTA-CAMRY- LE 2006 DID NOT DEPLOY DURING AN ACCIDENT. I HAVE PHOTOS OF THE VEHICLE FROM THE INCIDENT SITE IF REQUIRED. MY WIFE WAS INJURED. I BELIEVE IF THE AIR BAG WOULD HAVE DEPLOYED, THE INJURY MAY HAVE BEEN PREVENTED. *JB

CONSUMER WOULD LIKE INFORMATION REGARDING 2006 TOYOTA CAMRY PASSENGER SEAT AIRBAG SYSTEM. *KB THE CONSUMER STATED WHEN HIS WIFE SITS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT, MOST OF THE TIME THE LIGHT INDICATES THE PASSENGER AIR BAG IS OFF. IF SHE RAISES HER FEET OFF THE FLOOR WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STARTED, ABOUT 3/4 OF THE TIME THE PASSENGER AIR BAG LIGHT WILL BE ON. THE CONSUMER STATED IT IS HIS BELIEF THAT THE PASSENGER AIR BAG SHOULD BE ON WITHOUT TAKING SPECIAL MEASURES. *JB
