We took ownership of the vehicle in March 2025. It wasn’t until then when we finally attempted driving it that I realized the dashboard had begun melting. It is shiny and sticky. The Camry was owned by my wife’s elderly parents. Her father was disabled and had stopped driving the car before passing and her mother has dementia. Neither of them were aware of the dashboard recall program or the warranty extension that ended in 2017. Had her father and mother notified us of the problem we would have had it taken care of under the time limit, but they didn't. They purchased it new and the vehicle was mostly garaged, with only 37,000 miles to date most of which were in the first 2 years they owned it. The melting dashboard creates dangerous glare reflecting onto the windshield making it difficult to see. This poses a significant safety hazard when driving on a sunny day, not only to us but to those driving near us, risking a multi-car accident. We have had several close calls while driving this car. This situation has placed us in a difficult position. I am [XXX] and [XXX], we rely on this vehicle for regular transportation to [XXX] and medical appointments. We live on a fixed income and are unable to afford the cost of dashboard replacement. Given these circumstances and the fact that we only recently became aware of the issue we want Toyota to do the right thing and replace the dashboard as they committed to do. ABS/VSC actuator pump failure and with the abs alarm on causing constant drain to the system needing jump every time or to disconnect 12v every time parked. Dealer diagnosed wrong last year stating 12v battery needed replacement. I did the $500. It did NOT fix the problem. Now dealer states actuator pump failure - replace/fix price approx $4,000. I asked for diagnostic readouts to prove to me that they have it right this time. (I'm over 50 hours into this ABS failure) he refused and would not agree to refund my money if I would go ahead with their advised repair. My car has only 116,000 miles on it! I've checked around & it seems that my model should be part of recall/repair. I've gotten nothing written from Toyota when I have inquired in writing. Extremely dangerous, this failure!

Visors fall out and will not stay secured, allowing for sun to grt into eyes while driving. This is compounded by the fact that the dashboard is melting and very shiny. Common problems with this year and model. Recommend Toyota replace.

2008 Toyota Camry dashboard melting Toyota advised CSP letter sent 2011. I did not receive letter. Toyota advised CSP extended until 2017. I was not advised by dealership. 2021 dashboard started getting sticky. I was advised that Toyota cannot replace as after the CSP. If my dashboard would have melted between 2011 and 2017, I would have contacted Toyota. I am not able to pay the 2600 for a new dashboard. Toyota should have not put a dashboard into a vehicle that melts and causes a glare and noxious odor. I am looking for any assistance to help get this fixed by Toyota at no cost to myself. Texas has 103 to 110 degree heat this year. Thank you

I have a very sticky dashboard which reflects a strong glare and blind my drive view very bad sometimes. I have encountered several cases in which I almost missed traffic lights and stop sign. It puts my in very dangerous driving. I called my Toyota dealer and was told that it will cost over $1500 to replace it. I wonder why Toyota didn't issue a recall on this issue.

My dash on my Toyota Camry has become sticky and shiny with a chemical smell. The visibility is blinding from a glare in bright days and also night driving makes visibility difficult. The chemical cannot be cleaned off and nothing helps with the glare the dash is causing

my vehicle dashpad has suddenly begun to slowly melt and has become very sticky and shinny, the shininess causes a constant glare on the windshield, making it difficult and dangerous to drive especially during daylight hrs. I learned that there was a recall for this issues and contacted Toyota on 5/24/2021, and was told the recall for this issue expired in 2017, and there is nothing they will do for it now. I like to express that i purchased my vehicle in April of 2016, and was never notified of the recall, Toyota never sent me a letter informing me of the issue and i have taken my vehicle several time to the Dealer for other repair/maintenance prior to 2017 and was not informed of the recall by by them during that time. My case # with Toyota is 210524000564. i have searched the internet and also found that is a concerned issued with many other Toyota car owners. My vehicle is a 2008 Toyota Camry Hybrid.

I DELIVERED THE FORM LETTER FROM TOYOTA REPORTING THAT I SHOULD HAVE MY DASHBOARD REPLACED, I TOOK THE LETTER TO TOYOTA OF RICHARDSON AND WAS TOLD THE PART WOULD BE ORDERED AND I WOULD BE CALLED. I HAVE LEFT MESSAGES FOR SERVICE DEPT, SERVICE MANAGERS, AND GM OVER THE YEARS WITHOUT ANY CALL BACK

CAR HAS ALWAYS BEEN GARAGE KEPT AND USE WINDSHIELD COVER WHEN LOCATED OUTSIDE. NOTICED THE DASH WAS VERY STICKY AND SHINY AFTER THE CAR HAD BEEN SITTING OUTSIDE. CALLED THE DEALER TO ASK ABOUT THE PROBLEM. THEY SAID THAT THEY KNEW OF THE PROBLEM BUT THAT MY CAR WAS NO LONGER COVERED BY WARRANTY OR BY THE WARRANTY EXTENSION. THEY RECOMMENDED THAT I FILE A COMPLAINT WITH TOYOTA CORPORATE. I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH TOYOTA WHO SAID THEY WOULD INVESTIGATE. I GOT A CALL TODAY STATING THAT THEY WOULD NOT COVER THE VEHICLE. DON'Y KNOW WHY THEY WON'T FIX IT SINCE IT IS A KNOWN MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT. THEY GLARE OFF THE DASH IS SO BAD THAT IT IS DIFFICULT TO SEE WHEN DRIVING. IT'S A REAL SAFETY CONCERN.

VEHICLE NOTED TO BURN A TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF OIL DRIVING LESS THAN 1,200 MILES. CONTACTED TOYOTA WHO INDICATED THEY DID DO AN EXTENSION TO FIX THE ISSUE BUT I WAS TOO LATE. I NEVER RECEIVED THE NOTIFICATION TO LEARN THEY HAD AN OLD ADDRESS FOR ME. I AM NOW HAVING TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE CANNOT AFFORD A NEW ONE AND HAVING TO PUT OIL IN EVERY 7-10 DAYS.

THE CAR WAS PARKED OUTSIDE ON THE DRIVE WAY AND AT 4AM ON 12/4/19 WHEN I WAS ABOUT TO GO TO WORK I REALIZED THE DASHBOARD HAD EXPLODED. NO SIGNS OF A BREAK IN BECAUSE THE CAR WAS LOCKED. I AM NOT SURE WHAT HAPPENED BUT I HAVE NEVER HAD ANY ISSUES SINCE I GOT THIS CAR AND OUT OF A SUDDEN THE DASHBOARD JUST EXPLODES. WHAT IF THIS HAPPENED WHEN I WAS DRIVING? THE MELTED DASHBOARD, DUST, DEBRIS, AND INSECTS REFLECT ON THE WINDSHIELD AND CREATE GLARE MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO SEE THE ROAD. TOYOTA RESPONSE WAS THAT AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR THE MELTING DASHBOARD EXPIRED IN 2017 AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO ABOUT THE MELTING DASHBOARD. WE PROTECTED OUR DASHBOARD FROM SUN WITH A WINDSHIELD SUN SCREEN ALWAYS, SO THE PROBLEM TOOK LONGER TO OCCUR. THE SUN VISORS PLASTIC COMPONENTS MELTED AND SUN VISOR FELL OFF THE METAL SUPPORT. UNDER SUN AND GLARE HAVE TO USE HAND TO BLOCK UNMAKING IT DIFFICULT TO STEER CAR OR SEE ROAD. TOYOTA'S RESPONSE WAS TO BUY NEW SUN VISORS.

I NOW HAVE TO ADD MORE OIL TO MY CAR TODAY, WHEN ONLY 17 DAYS AGO 5 QUARTS WAS ADDED. I A AFRAID THAT I MAY NOT CATCH IT IN TIME TO ADD OIL, AND THE ENGINE WOULD LOCK UP. THE OIL IS REALLY BURNING TOO FAST.

THIS SUMMER WAS EVEN HOTTER AND THE FINISH ON THE DASHBOARD BEGAN PEELING, CRACKING, BECOMING SHINEY, AND VERY VERY STICKY TO TOUCH. SO I DID A GOOGLE SEARCH. I TYPED IN "HOW TO CLEAN A STICKY DASHBOARD" AND GUESS WHAT POPPED UP, TOYOTA CAMRY'S PROBLEMS WITH A DEFECTIVE DASHBOARD. THEY DIDN'T RECALL IT EVEN THOUGH IT COVERED SEVERAL YEARS, INSTEAD THEY EXTENDED THE WARRANTY. I BOUGHT MY CAR USED. I CHECK WITH A LOCAL DEALER, AND I WAS TOLD NO ISSUES. I CALLED TOYOTA TODAY, AND, I'M SOL AS THE WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED AS OF 11/2017. IF I HAD KNOWN I COULD HAVE GOTTEN IT REPLACED. I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO MENTION THE DEFECTIVE VISORS, WHICH I REPLACED AT MY COST AS THE EXTENDED WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. THE FALL DOWN W/O WARNING AND COULD HAVE CAUSED A CRASH. WITHIN THE LAST MONTH I AND OTHER SUCH AS MECHANIC, BODY SHOP OPERATORS HAVE NOTICED STICKY AND GOOEY DASHBOARD, MELTING AND VERY SOFT, ESPECIALLY IN THE HOT AND HUMID WEATHER. HAVE ALSO NOTICED A GLARE ON DASHBOARD WHILE DRIVING. YOU CAN ALSO PUT YOUR FINGERNAIL THOROUGH PARTS OF THE DASHBOARD, VERY STICKY AND SOFT. CONTACTED TOYOTA AT 800.331.4331 AND WAS TOLD THAT THE WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT EXPIRED MARCH 2018 AND THAT THEY COULD NOT DO ANYTHING SINCE THE WARRANTY WAS EXPIRED . I HAVE NOT EXPERIENCED ISSUES WITH THE DASHBOARD TILL THIS LAST MONTH AND WAS NOT AWARE OF ANY ISSUES CONCERNING THIS PART OF THE CAR. NOR DID I RECEIVE ANYTHING WHICH STATED THERE WAS ANYTHING GOING ON WITH THE DASHBOARD FOR THIS MAKE OR MODEL.

DASHBOARDS CAN BECOME CRACKED AND/OR STICKY/MELTED OVER TIME. TOYOTA ISSUED A WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT NOTIFICATION ON THIS ISSUE WHICH EXPIRED JANUARY 2, 2018. MY 2008 CAMRY DID NOT EXPERIENCE THIS PROBLEM UNTIL MAY 2018. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY HAZARD AS THE STICKY/MELTED DASH ACTS AS A MIRROR REFLECTING ANY LIGHT INTO THE DRIVERS FACE. IT IS ESPECIALLY HAZARDOUS IN NIGHT DRIVING WHEN STREET LIGHTS AND HEADLIGHTS GLARE INTO THE DRIVERS FACE REDUCING VISIBILITY CONSIDERABLY. IF THERE ARE BOTH STREET LIGHTS AND ONCOMING HEADLIGHTS THERE IS NO VISIBILITY. IT ACTS LIKE A MIRROR ON THE DASHBOARD. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL, NOT JUST A WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT.

I HAVE A MELTING DASHBOARD THAT INTERFERES WITH MY VISION ON THE ROAD. MY DASHBOARD IS STICKY AND IT'S CRACKING AND IT MAKES THE CAR LESS ATTRACTIVE. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THIS CAR AND ITS RIDICULOUS THAT I HAVE TO PAY TO FIX A DEFECT THAT IS NO FAULT OF MY OWN, BUT IS THE FAULT OF THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE ONLY APPARENT AFTER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY OR 10 YEARS EXPIRED IN OCT 2017. THE REFLECTION OF THE DASHBOARD UPPER SURFACE ON WINDOW IS HIGHLY DISTRACTING AND SIGNIFICANTLY OBSCURES VISION OF THE ROAD.

I WAS GETTING ON THE FREEWAY EXIT ROAD, THE POSTED SPEED WAS 65MPH AND HAD NO TIME TO AVOID THE ACCIDENT. AFTER MAKING CONTACT WITH THE JEEP MY CAR THEN WENT INTO A FENCE. THE AIR BAGS IN MY CAMRY NEVER DEPLOYED. AND I HAVE SUFFERED FROM INJURIES AND SIGNIFICANT MEDIAL BILLS AS A RESULT OF THE AIR BAGS FAILURE TO DEPLOY.

YOU DON'T THINK ABOUT HOW USEFUL A SUN VISOR TRULY IS, UNTIL YOU ARE NO LONGER ABLE TO USE IT. IT'S INSTALLED FOR A REASON, NOT TO BE SOMETHING FANCY IN A CAR. I CAN'T TELL YOU HOW MANY TIMES, THE SUN HAS PLAYED A MAJOR ROLE IN ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT DUE TO FAILURE TO SEE ONCOMING TRAFFIC, TRAFFIC LIGHTS, ETC. CLEARLY, TOYOTA RECALLED THIS DUE TO THE MANY FAILURES IT HAD ALREADY RECEIVED. IF, I WAS AWARE THAT THE $500-$600 PART WAS GOING TO BREAK A MONTH AFTER IT'S RECALL DATE. I MOST LIKELY WOULD OF TRIED TO GET IT REPLACED SOMEHOW? OF, COURSE THEY WON'T FIX IT UNTIL IT'S BROKEN. I DID NOT HAVE AN ACCIDENT. I JUST WANTED TO VENT MY FEELING ON THE PROBLEM. TOYOTA ISSUED A WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT NOTICE CONCERNING THE SUN VISOR ASSEMBLY. THE NOTICE GAVE YOU 7 YEARS FROM THE DATE OF PURCHASE WHICH SEEM LIKE A LONG TIME. THEY STATED ONLY TO BRING IT IN IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM. I DID NOT HAVE A PROBLEM UNTIL 9 MONTHS PASS THE 7 YEARS. THIS COULD BE A SAFETY ISSUE AS THE VISOR FELL DOWN BLOCKING MY VIEW. I HAD TO REMOVE IT IN ORDER TO SEE THE ROAD. MY QUESTION IS WHY WAS THIS ISSUED AS A WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT NOTICE INSTEAD OF A RECALL. THEY MUST KNOW THAT CUSTOMERS HAVE A PROBLEM WITH IT SINCE THEY ISSUED THE WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT NOTICE.

THE SUN VISOR BECAME WEAK AND HAS BROKEN COMPLETELY. I WOULD VENTURE TO SAY THE VISOR HAS LESS THAN THE AVERAGE AMOUNT OF NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. THE VISOR ITSELF WILL NOT STAY UP IN THE PROPER POSITION NOR STAY DOWN/BACK (MORE FLATLY ADJACENT TO THE WINDSHIELD). THIS CAUSES DECREASED/AWKWARD VISIBILITY WHEN DRIVING IN GENERAL AND OFFERS NO RELIEF WHEN NEEDED FROM DRIVING INTO THE SUN'S PATH. IT IS ALSO VERY DISTRACTING (EVEN FRUSTRATING) WHEN OPERATING THE VEHICLE.

WHILE DRIVING, THE DRIVER SIDE SUN VISOR BEGAN TO SLOWLY DROP DOWN AND EVENTUALLY FELL COMPLETELY OFF FALLING INTO MY FACE AND ONTO MY LAP. THE VISOR APPEARS TO HAVE BROKEN OFF AT THE POINT WHERE IT IS HELD TO THE CAR ITSELF. THERE WAS NO WARNING IT WAS ABOUT TO BREAK COMPLETELY OFF AND FALL ON MY FACE. WHEN TOYOTA WAS CALLED TO CHECK TO SEE IF IT IS A KNOW ISSUE, TOYOTA'S RESPONSE WAS THERE IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH MY VEHICLE. APPARENTLY THE SUN VISORS ARE DROOPING AND BREAKING ON SELECT MODELS, CAUSING THEN TO FALL OFF. THEY ADVISED MY VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN THIS VISOR ISSUE. HOWEVER, THERE IS NOT A RECALL. I ADVISED TOYOTA THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. I DRIVE TO AND FROM WORK OFTEN DRIVING IN THE DIRECTION OF DIRECT SUN. NOT HAVING A VISOR IS A SAFETY ISSUE. I NOW AM CONCERNED ABVOUT THIS ISSUE. TOYOTA'S RESPONSE WAS THIS IS NO LONGER COVERED UNDER THE VEHICLE WARRANTY AND THEY WILL NOT COVER THE REPAIR COST. TOYOTA ADVISED IF I WANTED TO HAVE THE ISSUE FIXED, I WOULD NEED TO PURCHASE A NEW ONE AT MY COST. THIS ISSUE IS MORE AROUND SAFETY AND SUPPORTING THE "KNOWN ISSUE." I NOW AM AT RISK OF AN ACCIDENT WITHOUT A WORKING VISOR DUE TO THIS KNOWN ISSUE WHICH TOYOTA THEMSELVES IDENTIFIED.

ON MAY 22, 2015, WHEN I GOT INTO MY CAR, THE SUN VISOR WAS DOWN. I TRIED TO PUT IT BACK INTO ITS PROPER PLACE, BUT IT WOULD NOT STAY UP. NO MATTER WHAT I TRIED, IT KEPT FLOPPING DOWN, OBSTRUCTING THE VIEW WHEN DRIVING. IF I PUSH IT FORWARD TOWARD THE FRONT WINDOW, I CAN SEE BETTER, BUT STILL I DON'T HAVE MAXIMUM VISIBILITY. IT FLOPS BACK DOWN AT TIMES, TOTALLY BLOCKING MY VIEW OF THE ROAD AND THE REVIEW MIRROR. THIS IS A DEFINITELY SAFETY HAZARD AND IF AUTHORITIES WERE AWARE, I WOULD PROBABLY BE GIVEN A CITATION FOR DRIVING AN UNSAFE CAR. WHEN IT FLOPS DOWN AND OBSTRUCTS VIEW OF THE REAR VIEW MIRROR, THE ONLY WAY I CAN SEE WHAT IS BEHIND ME IS BY USING THE SIDE VIEW MIRRORS WHICH TAKES LONGER AND, THEREFORE, COULD EASILY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. I FIND THAT MANY OTHERS HAVE FILED COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SUN VISOR PROBLEM, YET TOYOTA CONTINUES TO DENY RESPONSIBILITY. IF THIS IS THE WAY TOYOTA STANDS BEHIND THEIR CARS, I NEED TO RETURN TO NISSAN FOR MY NEXT CAR.

AFTER READING SEVERAL COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER CAMRY DRIVERS, I KNOW I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE. THIS SEEMS TO BE A "RECALL" ISSUE WITH TOYOTA AND THEY NEED TO FIX IT! I'VE SEEN THE ESTIMATES OTHER DRIVERS HAVE RECEIVED AFTER SPEAKING WITH TOYOTA AND THEY SEEM TO CHARGE AROUND $2500 FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF THE DASHBOARD; AND IT'S NOT EVEN THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE DRIVER!
