On 2/18/23 I took my car into the repair shop to investigate a clunking sound upon braking. The control arm was broken and the level of corrosion is extensive. I am the original and only owner and the car has never been out of Florida or on the beach or immersed in water. Toyota of North America in Plano, TX said they could not receive my pictures and that there was no one at Toyota that I could send documents to. They said if there was a recall I would be notified.

The contact owns a 2012 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that the front driver’s side door handle was fractured, and she was unable to access the vehicle through the driver’s side door. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the driver’s side door handle was repaired; however, the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who advised the contact that the door handle was easily fractured due to the plastic-based material. The contact stated that the independent mechanic replaced the door handle; however, the failure reoccurred. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 10,000.

I WAS BRAKING ON TURNING INTO A PARKING SPOT? BUT INSTEAD OF BRAKING IT WAS LIKE I HAD HIT THE ACCELERATOR. I KEPT STOMPING THE BREAK BUT IT WOULD NOT SLOW DOWN ONLY ACCELERATED. THE CAR WENT UP OVER THE CURB INTO A METAL FENCE AND ALMOST HIT A BRICK WALL. I EXPERIENCED A SUDDEN UNINTENDED ACCELERATION OF MY CAMRY AS I WAS ATTEMPTING TO PARK THE CAR ON THE THIRD LEVEL OF A PARKING GARAGE. THE CAR HAD BEEN OPERATING NORMALLY UNTIL I RELEASED MY FOOT FROM THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL TO PULL INTO THE PARKING SPACE. SUDDENLY THE CAMRY STARTED ACCELERATING ON ITS OWN. I APPLIED THE BRAKES, BUT THE CAR DID NOT SLOW DOWN OR STOP. SINCE I DID NOT WANT TO CRASH INTO ONGOING CARS OR GO OVER THE EDGE UNTO THE STREET BELOW, I CHOSE TO CRASH INTO THE PARKING SPACE. THE CAR WENT OVER THE ABUTMENT INTO THE CINDERBLOCK WALL. THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. A GENTLEMAN TRIED TO REMOVE THE CAR FROM THE ABUTMENT BUT SAID THE BRAKES WERE NOT WORKING NOR COULD HE GET THE CAR TO MOVE. HE WAS ABLE TO TURN OFF THE ENGINE. TWO HOURS LATER THE TOW TRUCK OPERATOR COULD REMOVE THE CAR FROM ITS SPOT WITH THE BRAKES WORKING. THE BODY SHOP CONFIRMED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE BRAKES OR ACCELERATOR PEDAL. CORPORATE TOYOTA HAD AN EDR RUN. THE MANUFACTURER CONCLUDED: "AFTER ROAD TESTING YOUR VEHICLE AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, CONDUCTING ACCELERATION AND BRAKING TESTS, WE FOUND NO ISSUES." TOYOTA DID NOT ADDRESS THE FACT THAT THE PROBLEM COULD HAVE BEEN IN THE SOFTWARE PROGRAM THAT MALFUNCTIONS INTERMITTENTLY. I FEEL THAT THE CAR IS DANGEROUS SINCE IT GIVES NO WARNING OF AN ACCELERATION PROBLEM; THEREFORE, I DONATED THE CAR TO AN INSTITUTION WITH THE STIPULATION THAT IT COULD NOT BE DRIVEN ON PUBLIC ROADS. THE CAR WAS UNDER WARRANTY AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT. AND WHEN I BOUGHT MY CAR, I ALSO HAD PURCHASED THE PLATINUM VEHICLE SERVICE AGREEMENT THAT HAD A 0 DEDUCTIBLE AND AN EXPIRATION OF 75,000 MILES. I THOUGHT WE HAD LEMON LAWS IN PLACE FOR THESE TYPES OF PROBLEMS. ULTIMATELY I HAVE HAD TO ASSUME THE FINANCIAL BURDEN CAUSED BY WHAT IS REALLY A TOYOTA PROBLEM.

I WAS WONDERING IF THIS IS A PROBLEM FOR CAMRY. I HAD A 1997 CAMRY FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS AND NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM. TOYOTA SAID THAT MY CAR EXCEEDED THE 36000, 36 MONTH WARRANTY. SUDDENLY, I HEARD THIS LOUD CRASH, WHEN I LOOKED TO MY LEFT, I SAW MY DRIVER'S SIDE MIRROR BEING PUSHED INTO MY DOOR, THEN I SAW THE TRUCK. MY CAR DID NOT STOP. I WAS GOING APPRX 15 TO 25 MILES PER HOUR MAYBE, AND AGAIN I WAS TRAVELING SLIGHTLY DOWNHILL AND WOULD HAVE BEEN MAKING A TURN. I THINK MY CAR WAS CONTINUING TO MOVE FORWARD IN THE SECONDS BEFORE IMPACT. ONCE I WAS HIT, MY CAR CONTINUED TO MOVE, SEEMINGLY FASTER. AT THAT POINT I WAS VERY MUCH AWARE THAT MY CAR WAS NOT STOPPING AND THE BREAKS WERE NOT WORKING. AMAZINGLY, I WAS ABLE TO NAVIGATE THE CORNER (WITHOUT BEING HIT BY ANYONE COMING FROM THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION) AND TURN THE CAR INTO A PARKING LOT (WITH NO CONTROL OF THE BREAKS). IN FRONT OF ME IN THE PARKING LOT, WHICH IS NOT A BIG LOT, MY CAR CONTINUED HEADING IN THE DIRECTION OF A BUILDING THERE. I COULD NOT STOP THE CAR AND WAS FORCED TO PUT IT INTO PARK, HOPING THAT WOULD STOP THE CAR. IT DID. HOWEVER, THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE POLICE WERE CALLED, A TICKET WAS ISSUED TO ME STATING THAT I DROVE WITHOUT DUE CARE AND CAUTION. MY INSURANCE AND TOYOTA HOTLINE HAVE BEEN CONTACTED. THE PROCESS IS JUST BEGINNING AND I WILL NOT KNOW THE FULL EXTENT OF THE DAMAGES UNTIL THE "BLACK BOX" IS INSPECTED. ON APRIL 2ND I WAS DRIVING FROM MY HOME TO MY OFFICE WHEN MY DOOR UNEXPECTEDLY FLEW OPEN AGAIN WHILE GOING AROUND A TURN. THIS WAS AFTER 5+ MINUTES OF DRIVING AND GOING AROUND A TURN PRIOR TO IT OPENING. THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED WHERE THE DOOR FLEW OPEN, THE DASH ALERT AND CHIME CAME ON. NOW A YEAR LATER ON 3/3/14, THE NOISE HAS RETURNED AND TOOK IT IN AGAIN FOR REPAIR. WAS TOLD THAT PLASTIC SHIMS HAD TO BE ORDERED AND THAT THEY WOULD CALL WHEN THEY COME IN. TL* THE CONTACT RENTED A 2012 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT WAS LIFTING A WALKER FROM THE TRUNK WHEN THE TRUNK DOOR ABRUPTLY FELL AND STRUCK THE CONTACT ON THE HEAD. THE FAILURE CAUSED AN INTENSE, SEVERE PAIN TO THE CONTACT. THREE DAYS LATER, THE CONTACT BEGAN SEEING INK SPOTS IN HER VISION, SHOOTING LIGHTS, AND VERY TINY LIGHT SPOTS. THE CONTACT WAS SEEN BY A RETINA SPECIALIST AND WAS IMMEDIATELY REFERRED TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM. THE CONTACT WAS THEN SEEN BY A MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL AND WAS ADVISED THAT SHE WAS IN NEED OF EMERGENCY SURGERY TO CORRECT A TORN RETINA AND BLOOD CLOTS IN THE EYE, CAUSED BY THE IMPACT OF THE TRUNK STRIKING THE CONTACT ON THE HEAD. THE CONSUMER ALSO HAD A PARTIALLY TORN ROTATOR CUP IN THE SHOULDER. THE RENTAL COMPANY WAS ADVISED OF THE FAILURE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO THE MANUFACTURER. ON 02-18-2014, I WAS DRIVING ON INTERSTATE 55 AND THE SUNROOF/MOONROOF ON MY 2012 TOYOTA CAMRY SUDDENLY, AND WITHOUT APPARENT REASON, IMPLODED. BECAUSE I HAD THE SUNROOF SHADE OPEN, GLASS FLEW INTO THE CABIN OF THE CAR. FORTUNATELY, ALTHOUGH I COULD FEEL GLASS STICKING IN MY FOREARM AND PALM, I WAS NOT CUT AND THERE WERE NO OTHER PASSENGERS IN THE CAR. ALSO, TRAFFIC WAS LIGHT AND I DID NOT CRASH AS A RESULT OF IT. WHEN THE GLASS BROKE, THERE WAS A LOUD NOISE THAT SOUNDED LIKE AN EXPLOSION. THE SITUATION COULD HAVE EASILY CAUSED A MAJOR ACCIDENT. I HAVE SEARCHED IN AND AROUND MY CAR BUT HAVE NOT FOUND ANY OBJECT THAT COULD HAVE CAUSED THIS TO HAPPEN. I BELIEVE THAT THIS IS DUE TO A DEFECT IN EITHER THE SUNROOF OR THE GLASS. THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE FIRST PAYMENT HAS NOT BEEN MADE AND ALREADY THERE IS A DEFECT. THE CAR WAS BOUGHT IN WILSON, NC AT HUBERT VESTER TOYOTA ON 8 DEC 2012. I AM TOTALLY DISPLEASE WITH THE IRRITATING AND ANNOYING NOISE. MY WIFE CONTINUES TO DRIVE THE CAR DUE TO SWITCHING OUT CARS TO HAVE MAINTENANCE PERFORMED. SHE STATES THAT THE CAR IS MAKING THE NOISE WHILE DRIVING, I WANT TO JUST RETURN THE CAR AND WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THAT CAN BE DONE PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT BEING INVESTIGATED. IT IS A SHAME FOR THE CUSTOMER TO HAVE TO PAY OVER $30K TO HERE A THUMBING NOISE. THE CAR IS A V6, CAMRY SE, 2012. I'VE SPENT OVER 160K ON TOYOTA'S IN THE LAST 14 YEARS. I WAS MERGING ON TO THE INTERSTATE WHEN I HEARD A LOUD CRASH. I THEN HEARD A RUSHING WIND SOUND AND GLASS BREAKING. I SLIDE OPEN THE INTERIOR SUN VISOR ON MY SUN ROOF JUST SLIGHTLY AND SAW BROKEN GLASS AND A LARGE HOLE IN THE SUN ROOF. I REALIZED THAT THE GLASS ON THE SUN ROOF HAD SUDDENLY BROKEN. I DID NOT PASS UNDER AN OVERPASS AND DID NOT SEE ANY OBJECTS THAT WOULD HAVE CAUSE THE BREAKAGE. THERE WERE NO TRUCKS NEAR ME THAT COULD HAVE DROPPED ANYTHING THAT COULD CAUSE THE DAMAGE. IF I WOULD HAVE HAD THE SUN VISOR ON THE SUN ROOF OPEN AT THE TIME OF THE EVENT, I WOULD HAVE HAD THE BROKEN GLASS COME DOWN ON ME WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE WHICH COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A SEVERE ACCIDENT. I RECENTLY PURCHASE A NEW TOYOTA CAMRY XLE. I WISH TO REPORT A CONDITION THAT EXISTS IN THE DESIGN OF THE MECHANISM WHICH HOLDS THE TRUNK LID IN THE UPRIGHT POSITION WHILE UNLOADING OR LOADING ARTICLES INTO OR OUTOF THE TRUNK MY EXPERIENCE IS AS FOLLOWS: I HAVE PUT ITEMS INTO THE TRUNK ON OCCASION (ITS A NEW CAR), AND IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN ON A LEVEL SURFACE. ONCE WHILE I HAD RAISED THE TRUNK LID IN MY GARAGE IT DROPPED DONE AND I WAS ABLE TO STOP IT AND PUT IT BACK UP. THERE IS A FULL UPRIGHT POSITION FOR THE TRUNK LID WHICH I WOULD ASSUME THAT IS THE MOST SECURE POSITION. HOWEVER IT IS A POSITION THAT IS RATHER HIGH TO REACH (I AM 5' 11" TALL.) IT IS A STRETCH FOR ME. I WOULD ASSUME THAT A PERSON OF A SMALLER HEIGHT OR A CHILD WOULD BE NOT ABLE TO REACH THIS POSITION FOR SAFETY. I RECENTLY CAME BACK FROM THE STORE AND PARKED IN FRONT MY HOME ON A SLIGHT INCLINED DRIVEWAY AND OPENED THE TRUNK LID TO WHAT I WAS USE TO IN MY GARAGE WHICH WAS LEVEL. W\HEN I REACHED IN TO REMOVE THE GROCERIES THE TRUNK LID FELL DOWN WITH GREAT AMOUNT OF SPEED AND HIT THE BRIDGE OF MY DOSE. IT MISSED MY GLASSES BY AN EIGHTH OF AN INCH BUT KNOCKED THEM OFF. I PUT MY HAND TO MY NOSE AND IT WAS BLEEDING AND SPENT THE NEXT HOUR TRYING TO STOPPED THE BLEEDING SINCE I AM ON ASPIRIN THERAPY. WE ENDED UP GOING TO THE EMG. ROOM TO SEE IF I NEEDED STITCHES. IT ENDED UP BEING A DEEP ABRASION SO THEY PUT SOME COLLIOD MATERIAL ON RAISE UP THE SCAB TO HAVE LESS SCARING. HAD MY GLASSES SHATTERED I WOULD PROBABLY RECEIVED MORE SEVERE INJURIES. THEY WANTED TO DO AN MRI EXAM TO SEE IF I HAD OTHER INJURIES WHICH I DECLINED BECAUSE OF MY MEDICAL WORK EXPERIENCE, L DID NOT FEEL THE EXTRA COST FOR THE MRI WAS JUSTIFIED, BUT WOULD HAVE BEEN AN EXTRA EXPENSE FOR SOMEONE WHO WOULD NOT KNOW THE WHAT VALUE OF THE TEST IN A SIMILAR SITUATION. WHILE DRIVING UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS THE PAINT ON THE LOWER PLASTIC BUMPER HAS BEEN HIT WITH ROAD DEBRIS AND IS CAUSING SMALL CHIPPING IN THE PAINT. IT SEEMS THE PAINT ON THE PLASTIC PARTS IS VERY SUSCEPTIBLE TO CHIPPING. NO CHIPPING HAS OCCURRED ON THE METAL HOOD OR BODY. *JS

A SHORT TIME AFTER I TOOK DELIVERY OF THE CAR AND I PARKED IT ON MY DRIVEWAY WHICH HAS A SMALL CLIMB TO THE GARAGE. THE CAR WAS PARKED WITH THE REAR END LOWER THAN THE FRONT. WHEN I OPENED THE TRUNK TO UNLOAD IT AND RELEASED THE TRUNK LID IT CAME DOWN AND HIT ME IN THE HEAD. IT HAPPENS EVERY TIME WHEN THE TRUNK IS OPENED UNDER THE SAME CONDITIONS AND SOMETIMES WHEN THE CAR IS LEVEL. OBVIOUSLY THE TRUNK LID NEEDS A TIGHTER SPRING. *TR

THIS IS A RENTAL VEHICLE PROVIDED BY LIA TOYOTA NORTHAMPTON, MA. I HAD BEEN SHOPPING AND OPENED AND CLOSE THE TRUNK LID SEVERAL TIMES. WHEN I RETURNED HOME I PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY WHICH HAS AN UPWARD SLANT TO IT. I OPENED THE TRUNK LID AND REMOVED THREE BAGS OF GROCERIES FROM THE TRUNK BEFORE THE TRUNK LID CLOSED ON ITS OWN ACCORD STRIKING ME IN THE FACE JUST ABOVE MY NOSE WITH ENOUGH FORCE TO CAUSE FACIAL BLEEDING AND A PROLONGED HEADACHE. A SLIGHT DIFFERENCE IN WHERE I WAS STANDING COULD HAVE RESULTED IN MY PASSING OUT OR MORE DAMAGE TO MY PERSON. IT APPEARS THAT THE PNEUMATICS DO NOT HAVE ENOUGH STRENGTH TO HOLD UP THE TRUNK LID ON OTHER THAN A FLAT SURFACE. A CHILD COULD LOSE FINGERS OR A LIMB IF THE TRUNK LID CLOSED IN THIS MANNER ON THEM. *KB
