While driving at speed over 45 mph or going up a steep hill car starts to shutdown and shudder causing a serious safety concern. I could have been killed. I understand this is related to oil consumption problem that toyota has failed to address in the 2014 model. What can be done? This is criminal!

The contact owns a 2014 Toyota Camry. The contact stated while driving 40 MPH, there was an abnormal rattling sound coming from the vehicle. The contact was turned off and the vehicle. The had been taken to the dealer in 2017 and was diagnosed with a leaking timing chain cover caused by an oil leak. The timing chain assembly was resealed. The vehicle was taken back to the same local dealer for repair in February of 2021, where it was diagnosed that there was an oil pan gasket leak. The vehicle was repaired. The contact became aware of an oil leak on the garage floor. The vehicle was taken back to the same local dealer again on December 23, 2024, and was diagnosed with oil leaking on the timing cover. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, but no additional assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 24,889.

The vehicle has a shudder problem related to the transmission. This problem was fixed back in 2015 and has persisted since I have owned the vehicle. During acceleration of 1200-1800 rpms, the transmission begins to shudder. I have asked the dealership to fix it due to the current recall but have stated that the transmission was already fixed.

I bought this car 2 weeks ago and now I'm learning of this Torque Converter problem. The used car dealership claimed that the car did not have any mechanical issues and upon test driving the issue wasn't apparent. However, no sooner than driving off the lot I notice the shutter. All of these dealerships kick the can down the road and does not fix this issue. There should be a recall on these models 2012 - 2014 to fix this issue as it is very expensive for the average driver. Toyota knew about this issue from 2012 and did not fix the problem. They will only fix it when they are forced.

I own a 2014 Toyota Camry there is a known issue with the 2012-2014 Toyota Camry models for the torque converters failing. In December of 2023 I noticed my vehicle not changing gears as smoothly as it normally does so I took my vehicle to my local Toyota dealership and was told that I needed by torque converter replaced and it would be $2800. Upon my research I found out that this is a known issue for this make and model and Toyota had a warranty enhancement program for this to be fixed but it ended in 2022. I was never informed of this program and if this is a known issues and they can verify that I haven't had this repaired before then my vehicle should be fixed at the expense of Toyota. I paid the $2800 because I was told not replacing it could cause transmission problems down the road. I called Toyota and sent them proof of ownership, proof of payment for the repair and they refuse to reimburse me in any way. Can someone please look into this for me?

For about a year now my car kept shuddering when I would excellerate from 20 to 40 mph and I was taking it to mechanics and they didn’t know what the problem was until one day I took it to pep boys and one of the workers had the exact same car as me and told me there was a recall because I was complaining to him about that problem and he had the same problem so they fixed his car then I took it to Toyota and they told me they couldn’t fix it because there was no recall so I did a lot of research and the recall expired in July 2022 and I was still paying for my car all the way until 2023 of august. I also called customer service and was told the car recall was expired and if I want to get it fixed it would be out of pocket. It’s very dangerous to drive because my car pulls back while I’m driving and at anytime a car can hit me from behind.

The vehicle has a shudder at accelerating that will prevent proper acceleration. I had a few incidents where I needed to get out of a traffic situation that out me in danger and the vehicle almost stalled. I read about this shudder, Toyota das a warranty engagement notification-ZE5. However it was for 8 years and under 150000 miles. I am well under 150000 but just over 8 years.

When accelerating from a stop the vehicle will sometimes move about 10 feet and then hesitate for about 1 to 2 seconds. It will then accelerate normally. One time the vehicle accelerated to about 20 mph and then the engine rpm returned to idle. The accelerator was pushed to the floor and the rpm remained at idle. The accelerator was released and pushed down again. The vehicle accelerated normally. This happened only one time. The intermittent hesitation is very dangerous when trying to cross a busy intersection when the cross traffic is uncontrolled. The vehicle was taken to the dealership for the problem. The technician could not duplicate the condition. The U760E torque converter shudder recall upgrade was performed. This did not fix the problem. The service advisor said that the technician said that some transmission hesitation was normal. The service advisor also said there had been other complaints about this condition. This condition is dangerous and not normal.

I have experienced issues with my vehicle when shifting since 2017 withal minor “shudder” after shifting into a higher gear. Now, my vehicle has begun to have trouble shifting from first gear to second. When shifting, the vehicle will abruptly stop before catching in second gear and continuing. It has become a concern as I am not confident to pull out onto busy roads.

I HAD MY BREAKS CHANGED BACK IN JULY, BEFORE I LEFT ON MILITARY ORDERS. WHEN I CAME BACK HOME, I NOTICED MY CAR WASN'T WORKING PROPERLY. I WOULD HAVE TO PRESS REALLY HARD FOR THEM TO WORK. OR THEY WOULD STILL BE ENGAGED LIKE, MAKING IT HARDER FOR ME TO DRIVE. AS WELL MY CAR WOULD REV UP, IN PARK MODE. OR WHILE I'M WAITING AT A RED LIGHT OR STOP SIGN. I'VE NOTICED A POPPING SOUND ON LEFT SIDE OF MY CAR AS WELL. MY ELECTRIC SYSTEM WILL SOMETIMES CUT OFF EVERYTHING IN MY CAR. I WILL HAVE TO TURN CAR OFF WAIT A FEW MINS AND TURN IT BACK ON. I HAVE HAD CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS COME ON, I TOOK IT TO BODY SHOP. THEY RAN A TEST ON IT. AND STATED EVERYTHING WAS FINE, AND REST CODES. I USE THIS CAR TO AND FROM WORK. I GET FREQUENTLY MAINTENANCE CHECKS. THE ONLY THING I'VE HAD DONE TO CARE WAS REPLACEMENT OF HEAD LIGHT FROM A DEER HITTING ME. I'VE NOTICED MALFUNCTION PRIOR TO DEER HITTING ME. THE ENGINE HAS ALWAYS RUN A BIT ROUGH AND WE HAD IT CHECKED BY BAXTERS SERVICE DEPARTMENT SEVERAL TIMES AND WERE TOLD THAT "THAT WAS NORMAL FOR THAT PARTICULAR YEAR, HOWEVER, WITH THE 2020 RECALL ON THE FUEL PUMP ISSUE IT SOUNDS LIKE WE MAY HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AND WOULD APPRECIATE IF WE COULD AT LEAST HAVE OUR FUEL PUMP CHECK OUT IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE RECALL.

THE DEALER WON'T GIVE ME A COPY OF THE REPAIR.

I REALIZED THAT IT MAY BE DUE TO THE HEATING/COOLING VENTS, AND A QUICK SEARCH REVEALED THAT THIS PROBLEM WAS PART OF A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT ON BEHALF OF TOYOTA CAMRY DRIVERS. I FEAR MY VEHICLE HAS THE SAME FAULTY SYSTEM. I REPLACED THE CABIN AIR FILTER AND SPRAYED OZIUM CLEANER INTO THE INTAKE, BUT THIS ONLY SOLVED THE PROBLEM FOR A FEW DAYS.

I JUST STOPPED TOUCHING THE BRAKE AND DID NOT HAVE THE PROBLEM AGAIN. TRY EXCELLERATING THEN TOUCH THE BRAKE PEDAL SLIGHTLY WHILE STILL EXCELLERATING AND SEE IF THIS SLOWS THE CAR FROM EXCELLERATING. THAT MIGHT SOLVE YOUR PROBLEM.

OUTSIDE AIR TEMPERATURE APPROXIMATELY 80F. DRIVING 30MPH APPROACHING AN INTERSECTION. WE HAVE THE RED LIGHT. BRAKES APPLIED. BRAKE PEDAL GOES TO THE FLOOR - NO BRAKES AT ALL. IMMEDIATELY THE ENGINE REVS UP TO VERY HIGH RPM AND UNINTENTIONAL, OUT-OF-CONTROL ACCELERATION TAKES PLACE. THE CAR GOES THROUGH THE INTERSECTION AGAINST THE RED LIGHT. NO CROSS-TRAFFIC OR OTHERWISE THERE COULD HAVE BEEN A SERIOUS CRASH. THE CAR IS ACCELERATING ON ITS OWN. THE TRANSMISSION IS AGGRESSIVELY MOVED INTO THE "PARK" POSITION. THE CAR STOPS. BRAKING ACTION RETURNS. THE ENGINE CONTINUES TO RUN HOWEVER THE RPM RETURNS TO NORMAL. THE CAR IS CAUTIOUSLY DRIVEN AT 35 - 40MPH TO LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER - TOYOTA OF DENTON, TEXAS. IF THE CAR APPROACHES 50MPH THE ENGINE BEGINS TO REV UP TO HIGH RPM HOWEVER BRAKING ACTION REMAINS NORMAL. THIS INCIDENT HAS LEFT THE OWNERS WITH NO CONFIDENCE IN TOYOTA. THE CAR IS NOT TRUSTWORTHY. COMPLAINED TO TOYOTA DEALER THREE TIMES BUT THEY NEVER FOUND ANYTHING WRONG. THIS WEEK TOOK IT TO INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO LOOKED IT UP ONLINE AND DISCOVERED HUNDREDS OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS; HE TOLD ME THAT THERE IS AN AFTERMARKET FIX FOR THIS (APEXI P/N 417-A021 FOR $65 AT WWW.APEXI-USA.COM) AND SUGGESTED I NOTIFY NHTSA AND TAKE THIS INFORMATION TO MY TOYOTA DEALER AND DEMAND REPAIR. THIS IS NOT MY IMAGINATION; THIS IS KNOWN DEFECT, REPORTED BY MANY OWNERS, DANGEROUS, AND REPAIRABLE.

OFTEN, AFTER AN IMMEDIATE SHUT-OFF AND RESTART, THE ENGINE PRODUCES THE SAME NOISE FOR COUPLE SECONDS THEN IT STOPS. IT'S EASY TO MISS THE NOISE IF THE RADIO IS ON OR THE SURROUNDING IS NOISY.

THE VEHICLE INTERMITTENTLY HESITATES (STALLS) AT STARTS AND AT OTHER TIMES AS WELL. WE HAVE NOTIFIED TOYOTA OF THIS SITUATION TWICE. AT FIRST THIS WAS JUST A NUISANCE (SHORTER HESITATIONS), BUT NOW IT IS HAPPENING MORE FREQUENTLY AND THE HESITATIONS ARE LONGER LEAVING US IN MORE PRECARIOUS SITUATIONS. WHEN WE ARRIVED TODAY I EXPLAINED THE HESITATION PROBLEM. SOME OF XXX STATEMENTS WERE RATHER TROUBLING TO ME: (1) "THIS IS A NEW SYSTEM. THERE IS NO LONGER A WIRE AND THROTTLE. YOU NEED TO LEARN TO RE-DRIVE WITH IT." (2) "THOUGH WE HAVE EQUIPPED ALL TOYOTAS WITH THIS NEW SYSTEM, THIS HESITATION PROBLEM IS PREDOMINATELY IN CAMRYS." (3) "I HAVE A 15 TOYOTA AVALON AND I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR IT TO HAPPEN TO ME. IT HAS NOT HAPPENED YET." (4) "IF THE COMPUTER ENGINE LIGHT IS NOT ON, THEN YOUR CAR IS OPERATING WITHIN SPEC. THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH YOUR SYSTEM." (5) "NEW CAMRYS HAVE A LOT COMPUTERS AND YOU NEED TO ALLOW ALL THE INTERFACES OF THE ALL THE COMPUTERS IN THE VEHICLE TO COMMUNICATE WITH ONE ANOTHER. THIS CAUSES SOME DELAY." THESE STATEMENTS WERE STATED BEFORE (1, 2, 4) AND AFTER (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) THE CAR WAS INSPECTED. I TOLD XXX REPEATEDLY THAT THIS WAS OUR SECOND VISIT TO GERMAIN TO REPORT THE PROBLEM AND THAT THIS HESITATION MAY CAUSE US TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT. XXX KEPT INSISTING THAT IT WAS NOT TOYOTA'S / COMPUTER'S FAULT, THAT WE JUST NEEDED TO LEARN TO RE-DRIVE THE CAR. I DISAGREE THAT "IF THE COMPUTER ENGINE LIGHT IS NOT ON, THEN YOUR CAR IS OPERATING WITHIN SPECS." TOYOTA NEEDS TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT COMPUTERS CAN BREAK, BE LOADED WITH IMPROPER INFORMATION, BE SET UP INCORRECTLY, ETC. SOMETHING IS CAUSING THIS HESITATION "PRIMARILY" IN CAMRYS! IN OUR OPINION, ALL TOYOTA CAMRYS WITH THIS "NEW SYSTEM" SHOULD BE RECALLED AND THIS SITUATION ADDRESSED IMMEDIATELY. WE ARE HOPING THAT TOYOTA WILL DO THE RIGHT THING FOR ALL CAMRY OWNERS.

IN JUNE 2014 I BOUGHT A 2014.5 CAMRY BRAND NEW. DURING THE FIRST WEEK I DROVE IT THE ACCELERATOR WOULD NOT SPEED UP AFTER PRESSING DOWN & HESITATED AS WELL TRYING TO CATCH UP. I REPORTED THIS TO TOYOTA OF ORLANDO & WAS INFORMED IT WAS LEARNING MY DRIVING TECHNIQUES AFTER A TEST DRIVE. THE REPORT WAS NEVER DOCUMENTED BY THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT & I HAD TO IDENTIFY WHO DROVE ME FOR THE PROBLEM I REPORTED TO PROVE I ACTUALLY REPORTED IT. IT WAS STATED HE JUST FORGOT. THIS KEPT HAPPENING VERY FREQUENTLY & AFTER ANOTHER DRIVER RANDOMLY DROVE MY CAR & ASKED WHAT WAS WRONG I IMMEDIATELY TOOK IT IN AGAIN NOV 27,2014. THEY DID NOTHING. I WAS REFUSED TO BE SEEN AFTER SCHEDULING AN APPOINTMENT WITH TOYOTA OF CLERMONT, FL & THEY HEARD OF MY PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. DECEMBER 28, 2014 AS I WAS DRIVING WITH PEOPLE IN MY CAR, THE ENGINE CUT OFF AT 55 MPH. I PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR ALL THE WAY DOWN & IT CONTINUED TO DECLINE. THIS WAS REPORTED THE NEXT MORNING. I WAS TOLD TO PARK MY CAR BECAUSE EVERYONE WAS ON VACATION & NOT TO DRIVE IT. THEY WOULD NOT RENT A CAR FOR ME IN THE MEANTIME. ONCE I WAS ABLE TO BE SEEN IT COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. THIS HAPPENED AGAIN WITH MY CHILDREN IN JANUARY 2015 & WAS ALSO RECORDED BY A PASSENGER RIDING WITH ME. AFTER THAT OCCASION EVERY SIGNAL LIGHT CAME ON. I TOOK IT BACK TO A DIFFERENT TOYOTA OF CENTRAL FLORIDA DEALER & REPORTED THE PROBLEM & THE MECHANIC STATED NOBODY FROM TOYOTA ORLANDO ATTEMPTED TO CONTACT OR CALL THE SERVICE TECH LINE TO FIND THE PROBLEM. THEY ADDED A CODE TO FIX IT AND I LEFT. AFTER 1000 MILES OF DRIVING THE HESITATION STARTED AGAIN & ALSO THE GEARS COULD BE FELT CHANGING BY THE MECHANIC WHO TEST DROVE IT WITH ME. THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AT CENTRAL FLORIDA GAVE ME A REPAIR ORDER & THEN A TOTALLY DIFFERENT REPAIR ORDER TO CORPORATE. I'VE WRITTEN THE MANUFACTURER DEMANDING MY MONEY BACK & THEY CONSTANTLY GIVE ME FALSE INFORMATION. MY JOB WAS LOST DUE TO NO RELIABLE TRANSPORTATION AND I'M STILL WAITING TO GO TO A LEMON LAW HEARING THAT WILL HOPEFULLY BE SCHEDULED SOON.

I WAS TRAVELING ON A FREEWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH. THE VEHICLE ABRUPTLY LOST POWER WHEN I "STEPPED ON THE ACCELERATOR" TO COMPENSATE FOR A SLIGHT UPGRADE ON THE FREEWAY, AND SUBSEQUENTLY SLOWED TO APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH, FORCING ME TO PULL ONTO THE SHOULDER AND STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE IDLED NORMALLY WHILE PARKED ON THE SHOULDER; HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE HAD NO POWER, WOULD NOT ACCELERATE ABOVE 20-25 MPH, AND FORCED SLOW TRAVEL ON THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD IN AN ATTEMPT TO REACH THE NEAREST OFF-RAMP.. I WAS FORCED TO TRAVEL ALONG THE SHOULDER OF THE FREEWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH FOR TWO OR THREE MILES. EACH TIME I ATTEMPTED TO "STEP ON THE GAS" WHILE TRAVELING OF THE SHOULDER OF THE FREEWAY, THE ENGINE WOULD "STUMBLE", APPEAR TO LOSE POWER, AND FORCE ME TO LET UP ON THE "GAS." AFTER TRAVELING ON THE SHOULDER OF THE FREEWAY FOR TWO TO THREE MILES, THE VEHICLE ABRUPTLY REGAINED POWER AND ALLOWED ME TO RESUME FREEWAY TRAVEL AT 55-60 MPH.
