While driving at speed over 45 mph or going up a steep hill car starts to shutdown and shudder causing a serious safety concern. I could have been killed. I understand this is related to oil consumption problem that toyota has failed to address in the 2014 model. What can be done? This is criminal!
When leaving from a stop as I accelerate between 20-30 mph it hesitates and will not go. I have to take my foot off and put it back on to go.
The vehicle has a shudder at accelerating that will prevent proper acceleration. I had a few incidents where I needed to get out of a traffic situation that out me in danger and the vehicle almost stalled. I read about this shudder, Toyota das a warranty engagement notification-ZE5. However it was for 8 years and under 150000 miles. I am well under 150000 but just over 8 years.
The vehicle shudders when switching from 2nd gear to 3rd gear at average acceleration and light load. It is an ongoing issue. Upon researching I found TSB SB0034-14R2 which appears to describe my issue. I took it to the dealer and they said I had to change the entire transmission, the torque converter and update the ECM software. When I called Toyota HQ customer service, they said the previous owner was notified of the issue and they didn't bring it in. They were willing to fix it for free up to May 2022 and I bought it after that. What I don't understand is why they aren't willing to at least provide a free ECM software update since this is likely an issue that existed in the software from the time it was manufactured. Software updates don't require a large amount of labor or a change of parts and it could remediate this safety issue. The shudder could cause me to get in an accident and get injured.
I was slowly pulling into a parking space at the Nordstrom store in Dunwoody, Georgia, when the car suddenly self-accelerated, jumped the curb and hit a concrete pillar. The pillar was about 15 feet from the parking area curb. Pressing the brake did not slow the car.
While stopped at a red light with my foot on the brake pedal only, the power switched from the battery of this hybrid vehicle to gas and started racing, causing the vehicle to accelerate and move through the crosswalk and into the intersection.? Had there been pedestrians in the crosswalk or traffic at the intersection, the outcome could have been tragic. I applied pressure to the brake which did not readily stop the vehicle until it had crossed into the intersection. Once the engine stopped racing and the car has come to a halt, I pulled the vehicle to the side of the road and tested it to determine if I could still drive it. I reported the problem to the dealer and they kept the vehicle for 2 days. I could feel the difference in the way the loaner vehicle performed. They indicated the problem was fixed although no other information was disclosed. Without reading the receipt, I drove the vehicle again, constantly alert to the problem and when the engine started racing and the vehicle started moving forward. I lifted my foot off the brake and kept slamming it against the brake pedal to stop the vehicle. I was recovering from an ulcer on the bottom of the second toe of my right foot which started bleeding leaving a wide hole on the underside of my toe. I reported this to my podiatrist who scheduled me for an emergency appointment. The phalanges in that toe were had been demolished by the force applied. The tendons had separated and the toe could not be salvaged. I was sent to the hospital to have the toe amputated and to see if the metatarsals could be spared. I went back to the dealership and the only work they did during the course of the week was to tint the windows that I begged them not to do. I have been unable to drive the vehicle.
The contact owns a 2014 Toyota Camry Hybrid. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle experienced unintended acceleration. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. On July 6, 2022 I was told by Walser Toyota in Bloomington, MN that they would not repair a known defective torque convertor part that was evidently under an extended warranty until March 21, 2022. The issue with the torque converter mimicked driving over a bumpy road until recently when it would stop my ability to accelerate while driving. In one incident it caused me to press the gas much harder than necessary in order to keep the car moving and nearly caused an accident. I was also pulled over and ticketed for speeding in a separate incident due to the unexpected acceleration caused by trying to overcome the effects of the defective part. I looked online and saw that thousands of other Toyota Camry owners between the years of 2012-2014 are experiencing the same unsafe driving as a result of thedefectivd torque convertor/transmission issue. However, Toyota failed to disclose this issue. They are stating they didn't feel it was necessary because it was not officially labeled a recall. I plan to seek assistance by any escalation means necessary. Toyota needs to be held responsible before any more people are injured or property is damaged.
May 8 2022 The vehicle was parked when I took it out of park it accelerated even when I repeatedly slammed on the brakes it continued to accelerate. It caused me to hit another vehicle and almost into a house. Airbags didn't deploy either....Prior to the incident a check hybrid system was the only warning i guess the vehicle had given. Which we had a appointment to get checked tomorrow. May 9th 2022.
When my car takes off it hesitate to move and when it does it take off. Something In the tires pop when you drive
I have experienced issues with my vehicle when shifting since 2017 withal minor “shudder” after shifting into a higher gear. Now, my vehicle has begun to have trouble shifting from first gear to second. When shifting, the vehicle will abruptly stop before catching in second gear and continuing. It has become a concern as I am not confident to pull out onto busy roads.

THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN BECAUSE THE EXPECTATION WHEN ON A HIGHWAY ON-RAMP IS THAT ACCELERATION IS GOING TO OCCUR, TRAFFIC BEHIND ME COULD NOT ONLY BE IRATETHATIAM NOT ACCELERATING(STARTINGAROAD RAGE INCIDENT)BUT IT COULD ALSO CAUSE AN ACCIDENT FROM THE INDIVIDUAL BEHIND ME NOT EXPECTING A SLOW DOWN ON THE RAMP. TOYOTA MADE ME PAY FOR THE REPAIR EVEN THOUGH I HAVE AND AM STILL COVERED BY THE PURCHASED EXTENDED WARRANTY AND THIS WAS A SAFETY CONCERN THAT WAS CAUSED BY A DEFAULT IN MANUFACTURING PROCESS AND NOTHING I COULD HAVE DONE TO THE VEHICLE TO CAUSE THE PROBLEM. THEY CHANGED THE TORQUE CONVERTER PART; ON 1/05/2019 I WENT TO THE DEALER TO PICK UP THE CAR AND AFTER DRIVING FOR FEW MINUTES, I NOTICED THE SAME PROBLEM. I RETOOK THE CAR TO THE TOYOTA DEALER FOR THE SAME PROBLEM, AND THE SAME TECHNICIAN TOOK FOR THE TEST DRIVE, AND THIS TIME HE SAID IT HAS INTERNAL DELAY ON SECOND GEAR. I AM NOT SURE WHAT'S THE PROBLEM, BUT THEY ADVISED I NEED TO CHANGE THE TRANSMISSION. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH I FOUND THE FOLLOWING ONLINE. "CARS EQUIPPED WITH AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION MIGHT EXPERIENCE A HESITATION WHEN ACCELERATING. REVISED SOFTWARE FOR THE ON BOARD COMPUTER IS AVAILABLE WHICH MAY CORRECT THIS PROBLEM. SOFTWARE REVISIONS ARE COMMONLY MOST HELPFUL ON NEWER VEHICLES. ONCE THE MILEAGE BUILDS UP A WORN COMPONENT COULD CAUSE SIMILAR PROBLEMS. THE SERVICE ADVISOR SAID THAT THE TECHNICIAN SAID THAT SOME TRANSMISSION HESITATION WAS NORMAL. THE SERVICE ADVISOR ALSO SAID THERE HAD BEEN OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS CONDITION. THIS CONDITION IS DANGEROUS AND NOT NORMAL.

STARTED VEHICLE AND IT SUDDENLY WITHOUT WARNING ACCELERATED AND CRASHED OVER TWO RETAINING WALLS AND HIT A PARKED CAR, FORCING THAT HIT VEHICLE INTO ANOTHER PARKED VEHICLE. WE SIGNED A CONSENT FORM AND THEY QUARANTINED THE VEHICLE UNTIL A PRIVATE CONTRACTOR COULD RETRIEVE THE DATA. THIS TOOK OVER 10 WEEKS THAT WE HAD NO USE OF THE VEHICLE. TOYOTA FINALLY RELEASED THE VEHICLE BACK TO US. TOYOTA SENT US AN EMAIL STATING THEY DISCOVERED NOTHING WRONG. WE HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED BACK TO COOKS COLLISION OF DAVIS CA. WHICH WAS A REPAIR SHOP RECOMMENDED BY OUR INSURANCE LIBERTY MUTUAL INSURANCE CO. THE INSURANCE CLAIM #PD000-034712120-01. COOKS COLLISION INSPECTED THE DAMAGES AND DETERMINED THAT THE CAR WAS TOO DAMAGED TO REPAIR AND LIBERTY MUTUAL OPTED TO TOTAL THE CAR. THIS CAR WAS A TOTAL WRECK, HOWEVER, NOT ONE AIRBAG DEPLOYED. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM.

THE THIRD EVENT OCCURRED OCCURRED A FEW WEEKS BEFORE THE FINAL EVENT, WHILE BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPOT. UNINTENDED ACCELERATION SIMILAR TO THE OTHER TWO INCIDENTS LIKEWISE OCCURRED. AFTER THE FINAL INCIDENT, THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP WHERE ASSURANCES FROM THEIR ENGINEERS THAT THE CAR WAS " SAFE TO DRIVE" RANG HOLLOW, GIVEN THAT A NUMBER OF DEATHS CAUSED BY UNINTENDED TOYOTA ACCELERATION HAD BEEN REPORTED IN RECENT PREVIOUS YEARS. ALTHOUGH I DIDN'T RECORD SPECIFIC DATES WHEN THE INCIDENTS HAPPENED, THE FINAL ONE OCCURRED IN THE FALL OF '15 AND THE CAR HAS NOT BEEN ON THE ROAD SINCE FOR FEAR OF INJURY TO MYSELF, FAMILY OR OTHERS. AS THE CAR LEASE CONCLUDES ( THE MONTHLY PAYMENTS HAVE BEEN DUTIFULLY PAID SINCE THE FINAL INCIDENT) I WRITE THIS TO HAVE IT ON RECORD THAT I CONSIDER THE CAR TO BE UNSAFE AND THAT I WANT TOYOTA (GIVEN THEIR SEEMING LACK OF CONCERN ABOUT THE ORIGINAL COMPLAINT) TO BE HELD RESPONSIBLE SHOULD THE CAR BE SIMPLY PASSED ON TO A NEW OWNER OR LESSEE AND ANOTHER UNINTENDED ACCELERATION OCCUR, CAUSING INJURY.

I STARTED NOTICING THE PROBLEM A COUPLE MONTHS AFTER I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE, IT HESITATES AND SHAKES HARD UPON ACCELERATION. THE CAR WAS RECALLED FOR TORQUE INVERTER REPAIR. BRAKING ACTION RETURNS. THE ENGINE CONTINUES TO RUN HOWEVER THE RPM RETURNS TO NORMAL. THE CAR IS CAUTIOUSLY DRIVEN AT 35 - 40MPH TO LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER - TOYOTA OF DENTON, TEXAS. IF THE CAR APPROACHES 50MPH THE ENGINE BEGINS TO REV UP TO HIGH RPM HOWEVER BRAKING ACTION REMAINS NORMAL. THIS INCIDENT HAS LEFT THE OWNERS WITH NO CONFIDENCE IN TOYOTA. THE CAR IS NOT TRUSTWORTHY. THIS HAS OCCURRED SINCE THE FIRST DAY THE CAR WAS PURCHASED SO IT IS NOT A WEAR ISSUE. I HAVE BEEN IN MANY, MANY NEAR MISS SITUATIONS. THEY ADDED A CODE TO FIX IT AND I LEFT. AFTER 1000 MILES OF DRIVING THE HESITATION STARTED AGAIN & ALSO THE GEARS COULD BE FELT CHANGING BY THE MECHANIC WHO TEST DROVE IT WITH ME. THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AT CENTRAL FLORIDA GAVE ME A REPAIR ORDER & THEN A TOTALLY DIFFERENT REPAIR ORDER TO CORPORATE. I'VE WRITTEN THE MANUFACTURER DEMANDING MY MONEY BACK & THEY CONSTANTLY GIVE ME FALSE INFORMATION. MY JOB WAS LOST DUE TO NO RELIABLE TRANSPORTATION AND I'M STILL WAITING TO GO TO A LEMON LAW HEARING THAT WILL HOPEFULLY BE SCHEDULED SOON.

SHE WAS DRIVING IN THE PARKING LOT AND MADE A RIGHT TURN INTO THE PARKING STALL. AS SHE APPROACHED THE CONCRETE STOP AT THE END OF THE STALL, HER CAR WENT FULL THROTTLE AND STARTED GOING FORWARD. MY WIFE STEPPED ON THE BRAKES BUT THE CAR STILL CONTINUED GOING FORWARD. IT WENT OVER THE CONCRETE STOP, WENT ANOTHER 6 FEET PASS THE STOP, AND WENT OVER ANOTHER CONCRETE STRIP. THE 2 CONCRETE STOPS HELPED SLOW THE CAR DOWN, BUT STEPPING ON THE BRAKES DID NOT HELP. THE CAR STOPPED ABOUT 5 FEET FROM A BUILDING SO DAMAGE WAS JUST TO THE FRONT BUMPER AND SPLASH GUARD UNDER THE ENGINE. TOYOTA HAD THE VEHICLE INSPECTED BUT THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR SO IS NOT TAKING RESPONSIBILITY. SINCE THIS OCCURRED AT A SCHOOL, I WAS ABLE TO OBTAIN VIDEOS OF THE CAR FROM THE SCHOOL. IT SHOWS THE CAR ENTERING THE PARKING LOT FROM THE STREET, GOING THROUGH THE PARKING LOT, AND TURNING INTO THE PARKING STALL. THE VIDEO SHOWS THE BRAKE LIGHTS ON GOING INTO THE PARKING STALL, BUT THERE IS NO FOOTAGE OF THE CAR WHILE IT WAS GOING OVER THE CONCRETE STOPS. I'M HOPING NHTSA INVESTIGATES THE 2014 CAMRY AS THERE WERE OTHERS ON THIS SITE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. JUST BECAUSE TOYOTA CAN'T FIND THE CAUSE DOESN'T MEAN THERE IS NO PROBLEM WITH THE CAR. I DO NOT KNOW IF IT IS A POWER TRAIN, ENGINE, TRANSMISSION OR ACCELERATOR PEDAL THAT TIS CAUSING THE PROBLEM. THIS PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT, THAT IS, IT DOESN'T HAPPENED ALL THE TIME. I SAW AN OPPORTUNITY TO GET INTO TRAFFIC AND PRESSED ON THE ACCELERATOR AND NOTHING HAPPENED THE CAR JUST DIDN'T MOVE. THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN IT TOOK OFF SPINNING ITS WHEELS AND I ALMOST LOST CONTROL. THE NEXT TIME IT HAPPENED WAS ON A VERY COLD DAY AND AGAIN I WAS AT A STOP SIGN AND PRESSED ON THE ACCELERATOR TO GO AHEAD AND ... NOTHING. THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN IT JUST TOOK OFF. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO THE SERVICE CENTER AND THEY DROVE IT FOR 20 MINUTES AND AFTER A CHARGE OF $24.00 THEY SAID THAT NOTHING IS WRONG. I DID TELL THEM IT WAS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM. THIS IS VERY SCARY BECAUSE OF THE LAPSE OF RESPONSE AND THEN A SUDDEN RESPONSE CAN LEAVE THE DRIVER IN A DANGEROUS SITUATION.
