The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact became aware that the electronic power steering was not functioning properly, requiring the steering wheel be manually returned to center upon completing a turn. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the steering sensor. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V144000 (Steering), but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 174,000.

I have the same issue described in a recall notice for my year make and model. My EPS light is coming on and I'm losing power to the vehicle. My VIN was not included in the recall. Steering: Electric power assist system Recall date 2015-03-12 Recall no.15V144000. This is very concerning as it could cause an accident resulting in injuries or death. I would like to have my vehicle checked for the recall.

Intermittent EPS warning light illuminates during highway driving with steering wheel lock-up subsequently followed by a reset of certain electrically powered items associated with but not necessarily limited to the following systems: 1. Stability Control System warning indication 2. TPMS light 3. Radio power cycles 4. Check engine light. After turning the car off and then back on again these issues clear initially, but will intermittently happen at random durations of time anywhere from an additional 1 to 3 hours of driving. I've been discussing with Toyota Customer Service, who has known issues with the 2015 Toyota Camry under NHTSA Campaign ID: 15V144000, but they are trying to tell me that it only applies to V6 and Hybrid 2015 Camry's. I feel that this is also applicable to my vehicle VIN: [XXX] . I feel Toyota is refusing to acknowledge this critical safety issue affecting more 2015 Toyota Camry vehicles. I've never had an issue like this with 5 other previously owned vehicles. When asked if I could pay for the fix myself they informed me that it is not possible without a recall! To the esteemed officials of the US Department of Transportation, My name is [XXX] and I am the owner of a 2015 Toyota Camry SE. I recently had my car repaired for a completely separate issue and while I addressed a problem with the steering, my mechanic made me aware of a 2015 recall for the Electrical Power Steering electronic control unit. I was provided with information regarding it. While my VIN number was not listed as an automobile affected by this issue, it is evident that this is what's occurring. My days have been spent on the phone with the manufacturer and was told numerous times that my VIN number was not identified in said recall. As a result, I was told not to drive my car due to it being a safety concern, meaning I could lose overall control of the car, and I am now lacking transportation. Please advise on how to proceed, I would like to get this matter resolved in a reasonable time. The contact owns a 2015 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 60 MPH, the vehicle inadvertently decelerated, and the RPM’s decreased to 0 and the vehicle jerked. The check engine warning light, electronic stability control, and traction control warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that she was able to veer the vehicle off the road. The vehicle was taken to a transmission specialist where the contact was informed that the electrical had failed and the EPS and ECU needed to be replaced. The contact referenced NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V1440000 (Steering). The dealer was contacted, and an appointment was scheduled. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was provided a case number and advised to contact the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 83,000.

Over this past year my power steering light flickered on and off randomly and my radio/lights will turn off completely while driving. Over the last 30 days it has been difficult to turn my car , especially in slow or tight turns and the car make a loud humming/grinding sound in turns.

The car start having a small sound like something is loose, and over time the sound is more aggressive Steering column problem was been confirmed by a independent service center And the call was made to one of the Toyota centers asking for any recalls for that problem the car is having , and a prize for the part, they give the information that lately they already repair a hundred cars with the same problem !! When traveling down the road, the car veers to the left and I must keep turning the steering wheel to the right to correct the pulling. Usually happens when the engine is cold, but is intermittent. Happens two-three time per month. I once brought to dealer while happening, but they found no issues. They kept the vehicle overnight but couldn’t repeat the problem. A week later it started pulling to the left again. I asked dealer if others had the same problem, they knew of none.

The steering wheel veers hard to the right and is very loose, uncontrollable, and inconsistent. In a situation that would require rapid response, this malfunction would make it dangerous because you lose the precise and responsive steering functions necessary to maneuver accurately. This has happened about six different times and seems random. It will disappear when I turn off the car. The vehicle has not been inspected for the problem. There were no warning lamps or other indicators.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE TURNING, THE STEERING WHEEL FELT LOSS, AND THE CHECK AIR PRESSURE FOR TIRES WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE TECHNICIAN INSPECTS THE TIRES AND AIR WAS ADDED IN THE TIRES. ONCE THE CONTACT LEFT THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC DRIVING AT 45 MPH IN THE RAIN, BOTH PASSENGER AND DRIVER REAR TIRES SHIFTED TO THE RIGHT. THE CONTACT LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, AND TRIED TO REGAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE STEERING WHEEL WHICH FAILED TO OPERATED CORRECTLY. THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL WHICH FAILED, CAUSING THE CONTACT TO CRASHED INTO A TELEPHONE POLE. ALL AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED BRUISING TO THE LEFT SIDE OF HER BODY. THE LEFT FOOT SEVERELY SPRUNG. MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS CONTACTED AND HAD TAKEN THE CONTACT TO THE HOSPITAL WHERE THE CONTACT WAS TREATED FOR HER INJURIES. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. RECENTLY WE HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING A SOFT STEERING RESPONSE, AND THE VEHICLE VIOLENTLY VEERS TO THE RIGHT (AT ANY SPEED). WEIRDLY THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN ALL THE TIME BUT HAS BEEN SPORADIC, BUT MORE AND MORE FREQUENT. THE MOST RECENT WAS ON 1/19/21. SURPRISINGLY AFTER THE CAR WAS TURNED OFF, AND THEN ON AGAIN, THE ISSUE DISAPPEARED COMPLETELY. OUR BIGGEST FEAR IS IF THIS ERRATIC STEERING ISSUE WERE TO SUDDENLY START ACTING UP AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. OUR CAMRY WAS PURCHASED IN DEC'14, AND WE HAVE NOTICED THERE WERE A RECALL FOR SOME CAMRYS' OF THAT YEAR. COULD OUR CAMRY BATCH HAVE SIMILAR ISSUES, HOWEVER THE PROBLEMS NOT AS APPARENT AS THOSE ALREADY RECALLED? PLEASE INVESTIGATE AS STEERING ISSUES SEEM TO BE THE TOP PROBLEM FOR THE 2015 CAMRY ON CARPROBLEMZOO.COM, AND MANY PEOPLE ARE ALSO NOTING THE SAME DEFECT BUT THEIR CAR'S VIN IS NOT ON ANY RECALL LIST. THE NEXT DAY I TOOK THE CAR OUT AND IT PERFORMED NORMALLY. I DROVE IT FOR TWO MORE DAYS WITHOUT A PROBLEM. ON THE THIRD DAY AS I WAS DRIVING I TOOK A LEFT TURN AND THE CAR WANTED TO CONTINUE TURNING LEFT. FOR THE NEXT SEVERAL MILES THE CAR CONTINUED PULLING LEFT. I CALLED MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER AND ASKED IF THEY HAD ANY IDEA WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. THEY SUGGESTED THE NORMAL THINGS TIRE PRESSURE, ALIGNMENT, ETC. HOWEVER A CHECK OF THOSE PROVED NOT TO BE THE CAUSE. THEY SAID THEY HAD NO IDEA WHAT CAUSED THIS INTERMITTENT PROBLEM. I SEARCHED THE INTERNET AND FOUND THAT OTHER 2015 CAMRY OWNERS HAD SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH THE ELECTRONIC STEERING. I ALSO LEARNED THAT THERE WAS A LIMITED RECALL ON THE ELECTRONIC STEERING COMPONENT HOWEVER MY VEHICLE WAS NOT ON THE RECALL LIST. TODAY I DROVE THE VEHICLE AND IT WAS NORMAL. IN THE LAST WEEK I HAVE EXPERIENCED THREE INSTANCES OF THE VEHICLE PULLING SHARPLY TO THE LEFT AND CONTINUED PULLING TO THE LEFT FOR SEVERAL MILES BEFORE IT RETURNED TO NORMAL OPERATION. THIS ALL HAPPENED DURING CITY DRIVING WITH SPEEDS BELOW 45 MPH. THIS VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A MINOR FRONT END COLLISION FOUR MONTH AGO. THE DAMAGE WAS COSMETIC INCLUDING THE FRONT BUMPER GRILL AND HOOD. THERE WAS NO MECHANICAL DAMAGE AND THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED IN A BODY SHOP AND I HAVE BEEN DRIVING IT WITHOUT PROBLEMS UNTIL LAST WEEKS INCIDENT WITH THE STEERING.

I CAN TURN THE CAR, BUT THE STEERING SEEMS LESS RESPONSIVE THAN NORMAL. PULLING OVER WITH THE FRONT TIRES FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD, SHUTTING OFF THE CAR AND THEN RESTARTING THE CAR SEEMS TO RESET SOMETHING IN THE STEERING AND THE STEERING WILL WORK NORMALLY. THIS HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES. THERE IS SOMETHING REALLY WRONG WITH THE STEERING ON THIS CAR. I CHECKED AND MY VIN IS NOT PART OF ANY RECALL. I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE THE DEALERSHIP LOOK AT, BUT IT'S CLEAR FROM READING OTHER REPORTS ONLINE THAT THIS IS A COMMON AND UNSOLVED PROBLEM WITH THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE.

I HAVE RESEARCHED, AND FOUND THAT THE YEAR/MAKE/MODEL OF MY CAR HAS A RECALL FOR FAILED "ELECTRONIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM". UNFORTUNATELY THOUGH, THE RECALL ONLY APPLIES TO A LIMITED AMOUNT OF VEHICLES. I HAVE ALSO NOTICED THAT THERE ARE SEVERAL OTHERS LOGGING THE SAME COMPLAINT REGARDING THE SAME MAKE/MODEL/YEAR VEHICLE, WHICH LEADS ME TO BELIEVE THAT THIS ISSUE MAY VERY WELL STRETCH FAR BEYOND THE VEHICLES FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO HAVE BEEN INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND AFTER GETTING THE CAR TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM, THEY RAN A DIAGNOSTIC AND DETERMINED 'TORQUE SENSOR FOR STEERING OUT OF WHACK NEEDS BOTH GEAR, COLUMN, AND ECM COMPUTER.' THE 2015 CAMRY HAS A RECALL ON THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING BUT I AM TOLD MY CAR IS NOT PART OF THIS RECALL. THIS COULD BE A DANGEROUS DEFECT IF THE PROBLEM OCCURRED UNEXPECTEDLY IN HEAVY TRAFFIC.

I HAD NEARLY SPENT OVER $1000 IN SEVERAL OCCASIONS- THE FEES DO NOT INCLUDE TOWING FEES. I WAS VERY FORTUNATE THIS OCCURRED THE EXIT OF THE DIRECTION.

WHEN THE COLCHESTER POLICE CAME THEY DID NOT FILE AN ACCIDENT REPORT SINCE IT WAS THEIR BELIEF THAT SOMETHING ON THE CAR HAD BROKEN. THE OFFICER TOLD ME I WAS LUCKY TO ONLY BE GOING 35 AND NOT ON THE INTERSTATE DOING 65. WHEN THE WRECKER CAME HE SAID HE HAD NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS ON A CAMRY. I DID NOT HIT A POTHOLE OR CURB OR ANYTHING ELSE. NOW TOYOTA (HERITAGE TOYOTA, SOUTH BURLINGTON VT. IS NOT CONVINCED THAT IT WAS A DEFECT. THEY ARE WAITING FOR THEIR REGIONAL OFFICE TO MAKE A DETERMINATION. JUST TALKED TO HERITAGE TOYOTA AND THEY SAID IT WAS NOT A DEFECT. HOWEVER THEY DID NOT SAY WHAT WAS WRONG WITH IT. THEY ARE ACTING LIKE THIS IS AN EVERY DAY OCCURRENCE. I JUST WANT TO MAKE YOU AWARE OF THIS IN CASE ANYONE ELSE HAD THE SAME ISSUE.

DURING AUG 2016 I WENT TO GET SOME LUNCH AND WHEN I TURNED OFF THE PARKING RAMP THE CAR WAS FINE. ONCE I ENTERED ON TO THE FWY AND APPROACHED THE SPEED OF 50 MY STEERING WHEEL FROZE AND WOULD NOT TURN EITHER WAY. I COULD NOT SLOW DOWN ON THE FWY FOR FEAR OF BEING HIT, SO I JUST STAYED IN MY LANE AND BEGIN TO EXIT COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET BECAUSE I COULD NOT TURN THE WHEEL ONCE I CAME TO A STOP I HAD HELP GETTING THE CAR TO MY HOUSE AND CALLED AAA TO TOW THE CAR TO A REPAIR SHOP BY MY JOB AND FOUND OUT THE POWER STEERING UNIT JUST STOPPED. HE SAID HE HAD NEVER SEEN THAT. I ALSO HAD TO REPLACE THE RACKNPENION. THE LIGHT WHERE YOU SHIFT GEARS WENT OUT, SO CAN'T SEE AT NIGHT WHAT GEAR I'M IN. DRIVE OR REVERSE.
