Vehicle has a safety issue involving the vehicles electric water pump. The water pump failed causing the vehicle to be unusuable until the electric motor is replaced. No warning when it failed, left consumer in the road blocking traffic.

Car stalled while driving and needed to be towed to dealership. Dealership confirmed that there was coolant intrusion into the engine that clogged the fuel injector causing the car to stall while driving. Dealership informed us that car will need a new engine and transmission because of the coolant intrusion. The car stalled while driving and could have led to an accident or loss of life depending on where the car stalled and when. This coolant intrusion has been confirmed by the dealership and shown to us via video they took. The vehicle has only been inspected by the dealership and we called Toyota corp to have then review this as a safety issue. They informed us the call stalling was not a safety issue. UNKNOWN on confirmed symptoms prior.

The vehicle illuminated the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) and stored DTC P26CB71 – Electric Water Pump Speed Stuck. The dealer confirmed the electric coolant pump actuator is mechanically stuck and requires replacement at a quoted cost of $1,257.81. Toyota official TSB-0323-17 (published December 8, 2017) explicitly states that this exact repair for DTC P26CB71 is covered under the Toyota Federal Emission Warranty for 96 months or 80,000 miles from the vehicle’s in-service date. Despite the vehicle being well within both time and mileage limits, the dealer and EPA both refuse to honor Toyota’s own published 8-year Federal Emissions Warranty, violating 40 CFR §85.2107(a) which mandates that the manufacturer “shall repair or replace” any covered failed emission-related part at no cost to the owner. The failed electric water pump is an emission-related component because its malfunction triggers an OBD-II emissions DTC and can cause elevated emissions due to improper engine temperature control. The part remains installed in the vehicle and is available for inspection. No warning symptoms appeared prior to the MIL illumination.

I paid off my var in June. By the ed of august my cars engine started going bad out of no where. started with oil and coolant mixing into the engine and then transmission started whining. Long story short I had to get both replaced. Oh yea my car only has 56k miles. Can you guys explain or give me any ideas on how this happened?

2018 TOYOTA CAMRY at times vehicle engine will run under engine Temperature, and other times, Vehicle will overheat. This is intermittent issue and is Not all the time. When vehicle is shut down. For 5, 10 minutes, It seems to work fine again for a week or two, and then starts to act up again. Toyota is aware of this issue with a defective Electronic water valve part that control the flow of water into the engine. Toyota did send notice out should this issue happen they will do a free Voluntary repair to replace that defective Electronic water valve even after the original initial warranty expires. Bringing to dealer to check and I will update after the fix was made that is suppose to fix this over heating issue with engine code reading P26cb. If you have same issue with vehicle years in question with code P26cb you might want to contact Toyota. This is a safety issue should engine start to overheat while driving.

As I was exiting a highway, and my foot was on the brake, the engine increased from about 15 MPH to about 30 MPH. I had to put the car in park. I almost hit the car in front of me. The engine increasing like this happens when I slow down for A red light or stop sign.

I gave yesterday a complaint (9/24/25 complaint #11689593). Today at the same location, exit ramp of the AZ 101, going west, the same thing happened. Today, 9/25/25, as I was approaching the car that was waiting to enter 56th street my engine increased from about 5 MPH to about 35 MPH. Instead of hitting the car in front of me I turned into the lane on my left. A car hit my car on the left side. MY CAR ISN'T SAFE TO DRIVE!! 2018 Camry with very low mileage (appx 38,000) and had all its required services done, suddenly had a check engine light. Less than a minute after that, "Coolant Temp High - Stop where it's safe" message popped up. Service center indicated it was a failed water pump (diagnostic codes P26CB71, U0073, U016387, U0163, P26CB). Coolant was gone. I keep getting error code P0304 which says its cylinder 4 misfire the engine starts shaking a bit and most of the warning lights in my dashboard turn on and it disables the parking brake , I took it to a shop and they took out the fuel injectors to visualy inspect them and moved injector 4 to a different cylinder but the same error keeps coming back cylinder 4 misfire , I keep having to spend money and still have the same issue. It only does it on a cold start .

I am reporting a brake failure issue that matches the symptoms described in NHTSA Campaign Number 19V-544 (Toyota recall for brake booster vacuum pump failure). My 2018 Camry has experienced loss of brake assist, making it difficult to stop safely and requiring excessive pedal pressure. Despite these symptoms and the known recall for this issue, my VIN is not currently included. This raises concerns that the recall scope was too limited and that my vehicle should be included. I have contacted both the dealer and Toyota corporate, and I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this defect further and consider expanding the recall. This is a serious safety issue.

Intermittently, when leaving from a stop the car will have just enough power to pull forward about a car length before losing all drive power. The engine revs, but behaves as if it were in neutral. This happened a couple times when making a left turn from a stop sign leaving the car in cross traffic, powerless, with cars coming from the drivers side for a second or two before it had power again. It seems to happen in hot weather. It is intermittent. The dealership could not reproduce the problem. There were no warning lamps. I could make the vehicle available for inspection upon request. The first appearance was last summer. It did not do it over the winter. It happened again yesterday. When it happens it tends to happen for a few minutes before driving normally again. It may happen at start up or after the car has been driven for some time.

Only when it rains the forward collision warning light comes on. The last time it came on the engine light also came on with code P01280. Diagnostic at Toyota said the Thermostat needs to be replaced. I decided to look into this as the thermostat should not be bad at 54500 miles. Weeks later and the neither light has come on again.

Replaced car battery , vehicle constantly jerking pressing the accelerator. It took almost a month to stop with harsh jerking . Going on 3 months and still transmission slips or jerks when entering traffic or accelerating sporadically. Feels as car either loses power or can’t find gears while driving. Very dangerous.

Check engine light came on one day. Ignored it. The next morning was driving on the highway and noticed the car had some trouble accelerating, tried to switch lanes at ~40-60mph (don’t remember) and the car started to kick back and almost felt like it was coming to a complete stop. I was so scared the car would just stop in the middle of the highway because i couldn’t even change lanes without it kicking back/not accelerating enough. There was not a lot of traffic around so i was lucky enough to get the car into the far right lane and coast. An alert came on, almost immediately after, on the dash and was told to pull over due to the engine overheating. Looked at the heat gauge and noticed it was all the way to HOT. Got off the highway and tried to take local roads back home, the car started to kick back almost like it was about to come to a complete stop but was able to keep going local roads, didn’t pull over (was close enough to home that I didn’t want to leave my car on the side of the road if it didn’t start back up again) and the engine eventually cooled down. Got back home to put in more coolant (there was ZERO coolant, never noticed a leak) Car ran fine for about a week, then check engine light came back on. Took it to autozone for a scan, code came out as P26CB. Took it to Toyota for diagnostic and repair, the code they found was P26CB71. Was told by the service advisor that the car should’ve turned off automatically and I shouldn’t have been able to drive it so far with the engine over heating like that. Also was told that the engine was very close to “blowing up”.

The transmission has completely malfunctioned. The car started stalling in traffic. It then stopped registering gears and stopped pulling. The car was taken to a shop who stated transmissions issues along with a brake assist failure. The torque converter has not been released by Toyota. My car has 139000 miles. I have researched this issue and many others have reported the same problem!

About a month ago my daughter left the toyota dealership in Bradenton fl. after an oil change. She drove several hundred feet, the car stalled and she couldn't start it. The mechanic crew had to push it back into the service area, after been there for 2 days they found no problem, Just last Monday [XXX] she filled the car up at a gas station, as she was leaving the car stalled again and she couldn't start it, the car was towed back to same dealership, they could find a problem after being there another 2 days. The Shifting solenoid malfunctioned, burned up transmission and created a hazard on the roadway in high traffic areas. Vehicle stalled creating a backup in traffic and myself almost got rear ended. The Red McCombs Toyota did confirm it was a solenoid malfunction through a phone call and video. They concluded that the car is not operable. The problem has been inspected and was advised to pay a hefty fee of nearly $10,000. Prior to the failure no lights or warnings were provided by the car’s electrical system not until I parked and restarted the car that the lamps turned on after the failure.

Upon leaving my home the “check engine” light turned on suddenly after only less than 2 minutes of driving . The “ICS malfunction” light also turned on. The car pulled and stalled when pushing the gas and velocity stalled. Engine light turned said something similar to “engine overheating park in a safe place” . Not sure exact words. I was able drive less then one mile to get the car to Toyota Penske of Downey. I had the diagnostic done and the service provider stated the car needed an electrician water pump replacement. My car has very little mileage and was not running for long for it to over heat.

The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed and attempting to stop the vehicle, the brake pedal depressed all the way to the floorboard and the vehicle failed to come to a complete stop. The ABS and check engine warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer nor an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V890000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). Water Pump, Toyota Camry 2018 LE, 2.5. In the last maintenance carried out at Courtesy Toyota, Brandon, I informed the Dealer that the Check Engine Light was on, I told them that I had visited 3 different places on the same day to detect the fault and it told me that the problem was the code P26CB, Water Pump. They told me that they had to diagnose the car one more time and that the cost was $200.00 (this is a scam when the problem was already detected). Additionally, I understood that the water pump of my vehicle model had a recall, because it came out with a factory defect and a new car is practically not one for the water pump to be broken in such a short time. The Dealer did not want to solve this problem in the warranty of this claim, who informed me that I had to pay $1400.00 for this repair ($500 for the part and 900 Labor) (another bigger scam) so I had to buy the part from Toyota OnLine to solve it. It is unfair that in such a short time a part of the vehicle is damaged due to a manufacturing problem and the Dealers (who we all know that their main objective is to obtain profits rather than solutions for their clients) abuse and do not assume the brand's responsibility to solve problems and projecting a negative image towards them. The warning lights were on the vehicle's dashboard indicating to stop and visit the Dealer, but no solution was possible on their part. Many people have complained about this damaged part of the vehicle in these models due to the electric water pump that does not have the required duration.

Releasing the TSB in April 2023, after the warranty periods for many affected vehicles have expired, is unfair to owners. A 2018 Camry HV's warranty period of 36 months/36,000 miles ended in 2021. This situation raises significant concerns as it burdens owners with the financial responsibility of repairs for an issue that was not their fault, potentially compromising safety if repairs are not promptly carried out. Toyota's inadequate efforts to ensure all affected owners have access to necessary repairs are disheartening. I urgently appeal for a thorough investigation and decisive action to ensure that regardless of warranty status, all owners of affected Camry HV vehicles can obtain essential repairs. I purchased a brand new 2018 toyota camry le with nothing but problems from the beginning. The brakes have been bad from day 1. The make noise when braking and they supposedly fixed it. I was driving on the freeway down a hill and when I went to press on the brakes they did not do anything and I had the pedal all the way down. I had to pump the brakes putting me and my passengers in danger. The engine hesitates when accelerating. I took it in twice already and they don't know what the issue is. Once it finally decides to go it accelerates excessively putting the driver in danger. This has been going in for years.

The a25a-fks engine fails to idle properly and will stall at times due to a cylinder imbalance. ICS malfunction light comes on as well. This puts other people at risk because a vehicle stalling or malfunction of the Toyota Safety Sense system can lead to car accident. Vehicle was taken to two independent mechanics and couldn’t find the root of the problem. Was told to go to a Toyota Dealership. A Toyota dealership inspected the vehicle, done several tests, swapped computer modules and couldn’t find the cause. The dealership replaced fuel injectors, fuel pump and had done a cleaning on the intake and the vehicle still had the trouble code. 4K worth of work and the vehicle still persisted with the issue. What I first noticed from the car was an odd knocking noise when starting the car, followed by excessive white smoke at idle, parking sensors not working, the car improperly starting for the first time followed by a ICS Malfunction, blinking parking sensor icon and check engine light. Code: P219C. The dealership wants to charge me 10K to take the engine apart to either replace a faulty part (within the engine) or putting in a new engine all together. Several recalls for Toyota Camrys from 2018 and 2020 have sighted defects with the engine blocks causing white smoke and stalling. These recalls should be extended to more manufacturing months as this is a noticeable flaw.

The contact stated the "See Dealer Immediately" warning light was illuminated. The driver was able to drive at 10 mph to their residence. The contact took the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed with "bad fuel". The contact stated they continued to experience a failure. The contact took the vehicle back to the local dealer, but they were unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact experienced the failure for the third time and took the vehicle back to the local dealer. The dealer diagnosed the failure with needing an ignition coil to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the wife experienced the failure for the fourth time. The driver took the vehicle back to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing all the ignition coils to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 48,000.

I bought my Camry with 5 miles on it. It’s a 2.5L 8 speed Camry SE. immediately I felt something not right when it would shift between 3/4 gear. It would rock back and forth in a jerking motion. The car has trouble shifting in automatic. When putting it into sport mode it automatically starts at 4th geer. It’s as if the gear shifters are not able to communicate with the engine. It’s stall on me when making a turn and I was almost t-boned June of 2018! Finally a recall on the fuel pump. I go take it in immediately to have the recall fix. Upon doing so the mechanic informed me that my vacuum pump seems to be bigger than the one that standard for my car. He said there’s no recall for my vin number but for other cars during that same year there is. So there was nothing I could do but wait for my vin number to be on the recall list. Then In June 2021 I was backing out of a parking spot and there was a truck in my rear cross traffic that was approaching, my Camry sensed the vehicle with it sonar sensor the alert went off and my braking assistance worked accordingly but the system failed to get the Communication clearly to the engine which in return did not slow down the acceleration of the throttle. So I backed into a truck and my son and myself were in the vehicle. No airbags were dispensed. No injuries but damages to my trunk lid, tail light, brake light and number were damaged. My car now has airbag malfunction and the steering assistance is working correctly.

Auto stalls at lower speeds(10 to 30 mph) when accelerating from a stop. After slowing as when entering a parking lot or making a turn, and then attempting to accelerate it stalls temporarily, maybe half a minute or so then accelerates like mad. Danger of cars behind me expecting me to proceed and I am unable to do so. Have requested toyoto dealer to check and as this is infrequent he can not confirm or fix. Same problem has been fixed by Toyota on other 2018 Camry by recall. My car has not been recalled.

At complete stops the engine stalls and after you give it some gas it takes off like a jet. I have two kids and I believe this is the most dangerous car I’ve ever brought definitely something wrong with the engines in these cars someone dropped the ball. This occurs often and we almost crashed once when the car took off after a stall

My car started to have issues while driving, especially when I slow down. It wants to die while I’m driving or waiting for traffic so I can turn or entering roundabouts. I recently waited for traffic and found myself turning in front of a semi. I had plenty of time, but through my turn realized that if my car had died that semi would have hit me at 45 mph. There are 2 lights on, check engine and master warning light. I have tried to have the issue fixed twice already and it was better for about 20 miles and then I have the same issue. These issues seem identical to the ones as described in the recalls for the same year make and model of my vehicle, but my specific vin is not part of the recall. I am concerned it is also part of the same issue. (It seems to have the same symptoms as the recall for the fuel pump issue or the incorrect sized pistons)

The longer I have this car, the more issues arise yearly. When this car was first bought as new I noticed that the car battery would die whenever I didn't drive for a single day. As the years pass the situation just gets worse. Today I was about to drive to work and found to my dismay that the car refuses to start. I couldn't even unlock my car with the key fob buttons, I had to use the key itself to unlock the car door to get in. The trunk refused to open even with the button inside the car, so I had to ONCE AGAIN use my key in the key slot to open. No lights came on when I tried to start the car, usually you can hear the engine struggle to start but not this time. After I had it jumpstarted the engine made a truly weird and strange sound, like rattling but much more higher pitched. Engine also sounded very weak too, much higher pitched than usual, almost like it was going to fade out of power. I have not changed the battery for a bit over 4 years. I don't drive much at all, I have 16K miles accumulated in the 4.5 years I've had this vehicle. I really want to love this car and own it until 100K but with problems like this I don't think this car will even last another 5 years. I'm thinking of selling this after a few years and getting a Lexus SUV instead. Apparently this battery issue is common in modern Toyotas, particularly sedans. I have other relatives with new Toyotas and they all had to have battery replacement in less than 2 years of ownership. It's a bummer that Toyota QC is going down and they are focusing instead on more technology in the cabin. I can only hope and pray that my car won't quit on me in a dark and empty lot one day.

The car hesitates while driving different speeds and kicks in almost like the transmission is slipping I have taken it in to the local dealership and they continue to tell me that everything is fine, they have done what they call a software update stating that it should fix it but it has not, there are no open recalls for the vin number but its an on going issue.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2018 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE HER HUSBAND WAS DRIVING 10 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED BUT FAILED TO STOP THE VEHICLE AS NEEDED. THE PARKING BRAKE WAS ACTIVATED WHILE USING THE BRAKE PEDAL TO SLOW THE VEHICLE TO A STOP. HER HUSBAND WAITED FOR A WHILE BEFORE CONTINUING TO DRIVE TO THE RESIDENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THERE WAS NO AIR ENTERING THE VACUUM PUMP. THE CONTACT'S HUSBAND ORDER THE VACUUM PUMP AND REPLACED IT HIMSELF. THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO ANOTHER INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE CAMSHAFT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT YET REPAIRED. I WAS ABLE TO FIX THE ISSUE OF THE VEHICLE NOT RESPONDING WELL TO BURSTS OF SPEED, SIMPLY TURN OFF ECO MODE, AND REFILL VEHICLE WITH BETTER GAS (DO NOT USE THE CHEAPEST TIER OF GAS AVAILABLE AT THE GAS STATION, GO THE NEXT TIER UP FROM THAT). I HAVE OWNED THIS VEHICLE FOR 3 YEARS NOW WITH UNDER 13,800 MI AT TIME OF WRITING. THERE ARE STEERING ISSUES WHEN TRAVELING AT HIGH SPEEDS. I SHARE THIS VEHICLE WITH OTHER INDIVIDUALS AND ALL OF THEM COMPLAIN OF THE VEHICLE SHAKING SEVERELY WHEN TRAVELING AT HIGH SPEEDS. THE RECALL THAT IS CURRENTLY IN PLACE, 20V682, HAS BEEN EFFECTIVE SINCE LATE OCTOBER 2020 AND AS OF NOW THERE IS NO REMEDY AVAILABLE. I SPOKE TO A TOYOTA REP EARLY FEBRUARY AND THEY WERE ANTICIPATING A REMEDY TO BE AVAILABLE BY THE END OF THE MONTH BUT THERE IS NO REMEDY AVAILABLE. TRIED CALLING AGAIN AND THIS TIME THEY WERE UNABLE TO GIVE ME AN EXACT DATE FOR THE REMEDY TO BE READY. MEANWHILE I AM READING MORE AND MORE COMPLAINTS OF OTHER DRIVERS WITH THE SAME VEHICLE STALLING WHILE IN MOTION, ENDANGERING NOT JUST THEIR OWN LIVES BUT THE LIVES OF OTHER DRIVERS AND PASSENGERS AS WELL. AN EMERGENCY MESSAGE CAME ON TELLING ME MY BRAKES WERE LOSING POWER BAND I NEEDED TO PULL OVER TO A SAFE AREA. I WAS ON THE FREEWAY! I COULD NOT PUSH DOWN. I HAD TO USE THE PARKING BREAK AND GO INTO A LOWER GEAR TO GET TO THE SHOULDER THEN MY CAR CAME TO A STOP IN THE CROSSWALK OF THE FREEWAY EXIT. VACUUM PUMP STOPPED WORKING. WENT IN TO REPLACE IT AND THE BACKSIDE IS DECENTIGRATED INTO THE MOTOR. REPORTED TO DEALER NOTHING FOUND COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. 3. STARTED AROUND 25K MILES - CAR IS VERY SLUGGISH, AND JERKY ON SLOW GRADUAL ACCELERATION FEELS LIKE A BAD PLUG OR FUEL DELIVERY PROBLEM, CAN BE DRIVING DOWN FLAT STRAIGHT INTERSTATE HIGHWAY CAR WILL HICCUP SPIT AND SPUTTER FOR A SECOND OR TWO THEN RESUMES SPEED. REPORTED TO DEALER DURING ROUTINE SERVICE COMPUTER DIDN'T THROW A CODE SO NOTHING COULD BE DONE OBSERVED 0.1 MPG DECREASE IN FUEL MILEAGE. 4. 28K-30K MILES STARTED CAR FOR WORK IDLED AND SHOOK HORRIBLY FOR 20-30 SECONDS JUST AS I REACHED FOR THE KEY TO SHUT IT OFF AND DRIVE MY SPARE CAR IT SMOOTHED OUT AND RAN FINE. CAR NOW AT 38K MILES FUEL MILEAGE HAS GRADUALLY DECREASED FROM MAX OF 37 MPG WHEN NEW NOW DOWN TO 35.8 MPG WITHOUT ANY CHANGE IN DRIVING HABITS OR ROUTE. VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED IN OCTOBER 2017,WITHIN THE FIRST WEEK THE BECAME NOTICEABLY LOUDER. INITIALLY WE THOUGHT THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED TO BE WARNED UP. HOWEVER THE VEHICLE REMAINS IN HIGH IDLE MODE FOR LONG PERIOD OF TIME AS THOUGH THE THROTTLE IS STICKING. WHEN VEHICLE IS NOT IN USE, IF RESTARTED WITHIN 5-10 MINUTES THE RESPONDS THE SAME AS BEFORE VERY HIGH IDLING AND SOUNDS AS THOUGH IT HAS NO OIL GETTING TO THE ENGINE(VALVETRAIN). CAR TAKES SEVERAL MOMENTS TO ACCELERATE WHILE THE PEDAL IS VERY STIFF AND THE RPM'S DOES NOT MATCH THE ACCELERATION TIME. FEELS LIKE THE BRAKES STICK WHEN YOU COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. THIS CAUSES THE DRIVER TO THINK HE/SHE ARE CLEAR TO TURN TO THE LEFT LANE IN THE CITY AND HIGHWAY AND IT CAN CAUSE THE DRIVER TO HIT ANOTHER CAR AND POTENTIALLY CRASHING. CAR ENGINE KNOCKS AFTER WARMING UP. KNOCKS GOES AWAY AND COMES BACK. LOSS OF POWER AND NOISY DRIVING. OCCASIONALLY ENGINE SHAKES AT STARTUP. MY WIFE DRIVES THIS CAR ALL THE TIMES AND SHE COMPLAINT ME SEVERAL TIMES IN HER WORDS THAT CAR IS NOT SMOOTH AND I KEEP IGNORING. I HAVE STARTED DRIVING THIS CAR AFTER HER COMPLAINT TO MAKE SURE NOTHING IS WRONG OR CAR IS SAFE. I HAVE RECORDED SEVERAL VIDEOS OF ENGINE KNOCKING HAVING CAR PARKED IN MY GARAGE. IT MAKES A LOUD REVVING NOISE LIKE A SPORTS CAR WHEN I PUT MY FOOT ON THE GAS, AND THE CAR DOES NOT TAKE OFF WHEN PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL . IT IS A MAJOR DELAY .ITS VERY SLOW, AND YOU BARELY MOVE WHILE THE CAR IS MAKING A TREMENDOUS AND EMBARRASSING AMOUNT OF LOUD NOISE. IN ORDER TO TRY AND AVOID BEING HIT BY ONCOMING TRAFFIC, I PRESS THE GAS PEDAL TO THE FLOOR, AND AT THIS TIME I DON'T KNOW WHAT WILL HAPPEN. ITS TOTALLY RANDOM . I COULD TAKE OFF OUT OF SYNC WITH PRESSING THE GAS TOO QUICKLY , OR BARELY MOVE AT ALL. THIS IS HAZARDOUS. FROM THE FIRST WEEK OF DRIVING, THERE BECAME A TERRIBLE AND ANNOYING HESITATION OF 3-5 SECONDS WHEN ACCELERATING. SINCE THIS IS A V6, IT ACCELERATES GREAT, BUT I REALIZED AFTER DECELERATION AND THEN ACCELERATING AGAIN, THERE WAS A LONG DELAY BEFORE THE ENGINE WOULD 'CATCH UP' WITH THE IDEA THAT WE WANTED TO GO AGAIN. UPON COMPLAINING TO SERVICE, THEY SAID IT TAKES SEVERAL HUNDRED MILES FOR THE COMPUTER TO LEARN HOW EACH INDIVIDUAL DRIVES. AGAIN, AFTER SEVERAL HUNDRED MILES, THE SAME OCCURRENCE, AND IT SEEMED TO EVEN GET WORSE AS I SOMETIMES SPIN THE FRONT TIRES (ON ICE AND SNOW AND WET ROADS) ONCE THE CAR'S COMPUTER ACTUALLY ACCELERATED. ONCE THE DEALER ACTUALLY 'RESET' THE COMPUTER WHICH MADE THINGS WORSE BECAUSE THE 'LEARNING' MODE STARTED OVER. SEVERAL TIMES I COMPLAINED AND FINALLY ONE OF THE MASTER TECHS ADMITTED THIS IS BECAUSE OF THE DRIVE-BY-WIRE SYSTEM THAT REPLACED THE MECHANICAL FOOT-PEDAL DIRECT ACCELERATION. HE SAID IT'S ALSO COMPLICATED BY THE 8-SPEED TRANSMISSION, THAT WHEN DECELERATING, THE TRANS UPSHIFTS TO MAYBE 6TH OR 8TH GEAR, AND ONCE THE DRIVER ACCELERATES AGAIN, THE DRIVE-BY-WORE SYSTEM , WHICH IS ALREADY DELAYING ACCELERATION FROM THE DRIVERS FOOT PRESSURE, HAS TO THEN UP SHIFT SEVERAL GEARS 'IMMEDIATELY', THIS CAUSING A LURCHING (AND SOMETIMES TIRE SPIN). TOYOTA ACKNOWLEDGES THE 'PROBLEM', BUT SAYS SINCE OTHER SIMILAR CARS DO THE SAME THING, THAT IT'S 'NORMAL'. I DISAGREE. IT'S IS A FAULT, A DESIGN DEFECT, AND IT SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED AND REPAIRED. TOYOTA HAS BECOME SERVICE-LAZY IN RECENT YEARS AND REFUSES TO FIX DESIGN FLAWS, FORCING THEIR CUSTOMERS TO DEAL WITH FAULTY CARS.

THE CAR EVENTUALLY ACCELERATED, GETTING ME OUT OF THE WAY, IN A HARRIED AND FRUSTRATED HUFF AT THE POOR PERFORMANCE OF THIS NEW CAR. THE TRANSMISSION DOES NOT MIS-PERFORM UPON EVERY SINGLE SHIFT OF THE GEARS, BUT THERE WILL BE MIS-PERFORMANCE OCCURRING ON EVERY SINGLE TRIP TAKEN IN THE CAR.

THE SECOND INCIDENT OCCURRED WHILE I WAS MAKING A RIGHT TURN IN TRAFFIC AND THE CAR ISSUED A MASTER WARNING LIGHT, A WARNING BUZZER, AND A MESSAGE ON THE MULTI-INFORMATION DISPLAY THAT QUICKLY DISAPPEARED. SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THE ACCELERATOR CONTROL SYSTEM OR PEDAL ITSELF. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION IS PROVIDED TO HELP DIAGNOSE AND FIX THE PROBLEM. ON THE FOURTH INCIDENT, I HAVE A VIDEO THAT CLEARLY SHOWS THERE IS AN ACCELERATOR PROBLEM. IN THREE OF THE FOUR INCIDENTS, I WAS BACKING UP IN "R" AND NOTICED THERE WAS NO ACCELERATOR PEDAL, PLACED CAR IN "D" AND STILL NO ACCELERATOR PEDAL THAN IT WOULD JUST GO. IF THE CAR IS UNABLE TO ACCELERATE EITHER IN A TURN OR IN ANY SITUATION, THAN AN ACCIDENT OR DEATH COULD OCCUR. CURRENTLY CAR IS AT A TOYOTA DEALER. TOYOTA DID NOTHING ON THE FIRST TWO VISITS, AS THERE WERE "NO CODES" AND WOULD DO NOTHING UNLESS A CODE WAS PRESENT. I PROVIDED THEM WITH A VIDEO OF THE FOURTH INCIDENT AND IT SEEMS THEY MIGHT BE A BIT MORE INTERESTED.

ON MY FIRST 10000 MILES MAINTENANCE , I TOLD THE DEALER THAT WHEN I DRIVE, CAR JERKING/BREAKING THE SPEED OR SAY HESITATION AFTER DRIVE FEW MILES. I FEEL SUDDENLY THE SPEED START IS JERKING/BREAKING THE SPEED FOR FEW SECONDS AND THEN COME BACK IN REGULAR SPEED. EVEN MY LEG IS AT THE ACCELERATE CONTINUES. ON MY COMPLAINT, THE DEALER TECHNIC DROVE THE CAR AND HE REPORTED THAT AT PRESENT TIME HE DID NOT FIND ANY PROBLEM. I THINK, HE LIED. I DID REPORTED TO TOYOTA AND THEY OPEN THE CASE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2018 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED UNINTENDED ACCELERATION, EVEN WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS NOT DEPRESSED. THERE WAS ALSO A LACK OF ACCELERATION WHEN ATTEMPTING TO MERGE, ABNORMAL SHIFTING, AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. IN ADDITION, THE ODOR OF ANTI-FREEZE FILLED UP THE CABIN. THE FAILURES OCCURRED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO TOYOTA GRAND RAPIDS (LOCATED AT 2555 28TH ST SE, GRAND RAPIDS, MI) WHERE THE FAILURES WERE CONFIRMED, BUT COULD NOT BE REMEDIED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 250.

THE VEHICLE THEN DECELERATED AND THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO A COMPLETE STOP. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE STALLED AS THE MOTOR REVVED. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO TOYOTA OF GRAND RAPIDS (2555 28TH ST SE, GRAND RAPIDS, MI 49512, (877) 703-5930) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT A NEW SOFTWARE PROGRAM UPDATE WAS NEEDED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 275.

I'VE HAD THIS 2018 TOYOTA CAMRY SINCE MAY 23, 2018 & I NOTICED NOT EVEN A WEEK LATER THAT THIS CAR HAS A PROBLEM ACCELERATING. I CONTACTED THE SALESMAN, THE SERVICE MANAGER, & THE SALES MANAGER & THEY ALL BEEN GIVING ME THE RUN AROUND. THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME MY CAR WAS SLUGGISH, BUT TOLD THE CUSTOMER SERVICE REP THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WHEN THEY PUT THE CAR ON THE MACHINE WHICH IS A LIE. I LITERALLY HAVE TO MASH THE GAS DOWN HARD AND PRAY IT GOES. THERE'S DEFINITELY SOMETHING WRONG WITH THIS TRANSMISSION & THEY WAY IT ACCELERATES. AT THIS MOMENT IT SEEMS AS IF THEY DON'T CARE. I'M REALLY STRESSED & DISSATISFIED ABOUT HOW THEY ARE HANDLING THIS.

4-CYLINDER XSE HAS SIGNIFICANT ACCELERATION DELAY AFTER DEPRESSING THE PEDAL; THIS IS ESPECIALLY APPARENT WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A ROLLING STOP AT APPROXIMATELY 15-25 MPH. OCCASIONALLY, THE GEAR WILL ALSO SHIFT ABRUPTLY WHEN ACCELERATING FROM 15-25 MPH, CAUSING THE CAR TO LURCH FORWARD SUDDENLY. THIS IS DANGEROUS; IF THERE IS A CAR IN FRONT OF YOU, THERE IS A HIGH CHANCE OF CAUSING A REAR END ACCIDENT.

WHEN THE CAR IN THE LOW SPEED AROUND 20 MILES/HOUR AND THE ENGINE AROUND 2000RPM, THE TRANSMISSION IS WIRED TRYING TO FIND SPECIFIED GEAR, MAKE THE CAR SPEED INCREASED AND DECREASED, IT LIKE JERK THE CAR. ANOTHER PROBLEM IS WHEN YOU TRYING TO SPEED UP CATCH UP CARS SPEED FROM LOWER SPEED ON HIGHWAY, PRESS THE GAS PEDAL, THE CAR JUST LIKE THINKING THE LIFE PHILOSOPHY THE RPM REACH 4000 THE CAR SUDDENLY SPEED UP.

THE 2018 TOYOTA CAMRY IS HAVING A PROBLEM SHIFTING AND ALLOWING THE CAR TO INCREASE SPEED. THE CAR CONSTANTLY JERKS WHEN YOU TRY TO MOVE AND SOMETIMES WHEN YOU'RE SITTING IT STILL JERKS. IT'S LIKE THE TRANSMISSION IS MISSING A SHIFT OR SOMETHING.

CAR IS HESITATING/SLUGGISH WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP/ROLLING STOP. TAKES FOREVER TO GET TO HIGHWAY SPEEDS, WHICH IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. WHEN THERE IS TRAFFIC ON A HIGHWAY, CHANGING LANES INTO A LANE IN WHICH TRAFFIC IS GOING FASTER IS EXTREMELY HARD DUE TO FEAR BEING REAR-ENDED. CAR STRUGGLES TO GET FROM 0-45 AND WILL ONLY DO SO WHEN THE ACCELERATOR IS STEPPED DOWN ALL THE WAY. TRANSMISSION SHIFTS ARE VERY JERKY. SEEMS LIKE THE TRANSMISSION DOESN'T KNOW WHAT GEAR TO BE IN 90% OF THE TIME. ALL THESE SYMPTOMS APPEAR TO BE IN ONLY THE 4 CYLINDER MODEL OF THE 2018 CAMRYS.

ALSO, WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, THE VEHICLE STARTED SHAKING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DARCARS 355 TOYOTA ROCKVILLE (15625 FREDERICK RD, ROCKVILLE, MD 20855 (301) 340-0900) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT RODENTS CHEWED THROUGH THE INSULATION AND WIRING, WHICH NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE CONTACT RESEARCHED THE FAILURE ONLINE AND FOUND THAT A SOY-BASED PRODUCT WAS USED IN MAKING THE INSULATION AND WIRING, WHICH COULD ATTRACT RODENTS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 700.
