The vehicle illuminated the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) and stored DTC P26CB71 – Electric Water Pump Speed Stuck. The dealer confirmed the electric coolant pump actuator is mechanically stuck and requires replacement at a quoted cost of $1,257.81. Toyota official TSB-0323-17 (published December 8, 2017) explicitly states that this exact repair for DTC P26CB71 is covered under the Toyota Federal Emission Warranty for 96 months or 80,000 miles from the vehicle’s in-service date. Despite the vehicle being well within both time and mileage limits, the dealer and EPA both refuse to honor Toyota’s own published 8-year Federal Emissions Warranty, violating 40 CFR §85.2107(a) which mandates that the manufacturer “shall repair or replace” any covered failed emission-related part at no cost to the owner. The failed electric water pump is an emission-related component because its malfunction triggers an OBD-II emissions DTC and can cause elevated emissions due to improper engine temperature control. The part remains installed in the vehicle and is available for inspection. No warning symptoms appeared prior to the MIL illumination.

I paid off my var in June. By the ed of august my cars engine started going bad out of no where. started with oil and coolant mixing into the engine and then transmission started whining. Long story short I had to get both replaced. Oh yea my car only has 56k miles. Can you guys explain or give me any ideas on how this happened?

I was unaware that there was anything wrong with my vehicle. No warnings, no nothing, and as i pulled out into traffic, all of a sudden my car would not go anywhere. I was unable to go in forward or reverse. I was almost hit by multiple other vehicles. I was stuck in the middle of a busy intersection with traffic coming at me in both directions. I ended up having to get a tow truck to have my car towed. Come to find out my transmission went out. No warning no nothing leading up to this. Not only did it pose a risk to my life, but i now have vehicle that i still make payments on that no longer runs without having the transmission replaced.

Intermittently, when leaving from a stop the car will have just enough power to pull forward about a car length before losing all drive power. The engine revs, but behaves as if it were in neutral. This happened a couple times when making a left turn from a stop sign leaving the car in cross traffic, powerless, with cars coming from the drivers side for a second or two before it had power again. It seems to happen in hot weather. It is intermittent. The dealership could not reproduce the problem. There were no warning lamps. I could make the vehicle available for inspection upon request. The first appearance was last summer. It did not do it over the winter. It happened again yesterday. When it happens it tends to happen for a few minutes before driving normally again. It may happen at start up or after the car has been driven for some time.

Shifted the operating car from park to drive when the car suddenly and unexpectedly took off even though I was not touching the accelerator. The car accelerated across the street and slammed into a parked car. The airbags did not deploy which would indicate a low-speed but the pre-collision system did not stop the car which would indicate higher- speed. My car was written off as a complete loss by my insurance carrier and the damage to the parked car that was hit was extensive.

Received while driving notification on driving panel car needed to be taken to the dealership immediately. I returned vehicle to service department of where I purchased the car. I also had an engineer from the bureau of automotive repair evaluate my car. The engineer attested the issue was a result of a design flaw. The service department did not comment but instead reported I would have a $3000.00 repair. I never saw my car again even though while it was at the dealership I made TWO MORE CAR PAYMENTS.

Vehicle should have automatic emergency braking safety feature when vehicle is driving in “Reverse”. I made a very careless and dangerous mistake because I was in a rush and placed my vehicle in “Reverse” instead of “Park”, immediately after parking on the street in front of my friend’s house. Not realizing the vehicle was in reverse, I quickly opened the driver’s side door and placed my left foot on the street as I was getting out. Suddenly, the moving vehicle and opened driver’s side door knocked me down on the street and continued to drive in reverse crushing my body. The vehicle should have stopped the moment it hit something or before it hit something. Instead, the vehicle smashed me against the pavement, rolled right over me, and then continued in reverse at a rapid speed. At the same time, my friend was getting out of the front passenger side and was almost pinned against a telephone pole that the opened passenger side door hit, but thankfully she got out of the way just in time. The car, however, continued running in reverse. Another friend had to run down the street and literally jump in the driver’s side to quickly place his foot on the brakes. I was still laying injured on the street in agony, and sustained multiple injuries.

The xle Camry 2018 models moonroof/sunroof, stops working and there is no safety close option for the moonroof. It gets stuck open and the only option to get it to close is a $10,000 repair. I have extended warranty that will cover this plus 14 days of a car rental, but the dealership cannot guarantee when the parts will be in, so I have approximately more than 30 days for my car to be repaired. So I still have to pay more than $1600 for fees plus car rental and no assistance from Toyota. (this is including there is more than 3 cars at the dealership with the same issue).

I am writing this letter because, on August 1, 2023, my wife, and I, were involved in an accident with our 2018 Toyota Camry, which may have been due to SUDDEN UNINTENDED ACCELERATION, a defect which affected Camry owners for over 10 years, and is still happening. Most of these accidents occurred when the driver was pulling slowly into a parking space and their car suddenly accelerated strongly and couldn’t be stopped by hitting the brakes. The car only stopped when it hit a solid object. This often resulted in serious injuries, even death. On August 1, my wife was driving the Camry (I was in the front passenger seat) and she was in the process of slowly pulling into a parking space at Parkside Town Commons in Cary, with her foot on the brake. Without warning, the car suddenly accelerated and she was unable to stop it by hard braking. The car jumped the curb in front of it and climbed a landscaped incline, only stopping when it crashed into a wrought iron fence in front if it. There were no vehicle warning messages prior to the accident. Fortunately, no one was injured, but the Camry had over $6,000 in damages and the fence was bent badly where the car hit it. We called the Cary Police and a Police Report was made. No tickets were issued by the Cary Police. Our Toyota dealer referred us to a higher level Toyota office that deals with special vehicle problems, which we called. We reported the accident, they said it would be reviewed. We have had no response from theToyota higher level office since. Though the damage was repaired, we are very worried that if our Camry has a SUDDEN UNINTENDED ACCELERATION defect, we could suffer another such accident anytime. It is very critical to have our vehicle inspected for such a flaw, whether in electronics, the throttle, brakes, or anything else. As this problem is an important safety issue, we feel the need to have it checked out. Would appreciate your assistance.

The fuel door release mechanical system has not been working since the car was purchased. The fuel door release mechanical system has very flimsy parts. I believe that this model and year also had a recall on the fuel pump because of a flimsy part as well.

Car does not accelerate from stop at a traffic light intermittently. THis poses a risk/hazard as the car behind it closes on it and expects the car to move forward . The vehicle was recalled a year ago for a fuel pump that was supposed to cause the same issue. Its been replaced and the issue has shown up again and now cannot be reproduced by the manufacturer.

My instrument panel went black. I can no longer tell how fast I'm going I can no longer tell if my safety features are on or off. I can no longer see if my tire pressure is good or bad. I've checked the fuses and there is no blown fuse. Also my odometer reading is on this screen and I'm not able to see it.

The car’s dashboard will light up and all systems started failing with no warning while driving. The car will not accelerate, brake, or steer properly. It happened twice and the Toyota mechanics couldn’t figure out what was happening and just tried changing something out on the engine. A few months later the same thing happened again (today). This is very dangerous as I have no control when it happens and I can’t control the car. In all instances, I was driving on a busy road, the entire dash lit up, I couldn’t accelerate despite pushing it all the way down with my foot, and I couldn’t steer the car. Luckily, I was able to get off the road before I was in an accident.

That gas damper strut on the trunk lid failed, allowing the trunk lid to sprint open dangerously fast. I have been hit in the face with it and also on the top of my head when it rebounds. The car is available for inspection. We will have the car serviced soon and have them confirm the failure. The car/failure has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance or others.

When opening the trunk the trunk lid opens very fast and makes contact with the rear window. This has a very high potential to break the rear glass making it unable to see out off.

The hood doesn't stay open. The hood uses two gas struts to be opened and they failed causing the hood to slam into my head and neck. The hood doesn't have a prop up bar which can keep the hood propped open. My car is a 2018 Toyota Camry Hybrid with 70,000 miles on it. The hood was opened all the way for 5 minutes before it slammed shut on me.

Fuel\propulsion system, There was no power given to the engine when I turned a corner with an exorbitant amount of time. There was a car at least 100 yards away. When I put my foot on the gas pedal there was no power. It felt like the car did not switch gears for the fuel pump or Pistons just were not working correctly. The car almost rear-ended me and caused a major accident. This has happened multiple times.

Backup camera suddenly stopped showing video feed to the vehicle screen. No warning lamps were ever produced. The screen works intermittently and will fail for entire ignition cycles once it stops working. I had to dig through diagnostic menus that are hidden to the customer. The screen works as intended when the vehicle is not in reverse. Safety concern is that no check engine lamp was lit when the backup camera circuit failed.

Vehicle was involved in a rear-end collision. Vehicle did not brake before impact manually neither did the brake assist activate. There were no signs of braking assist malfunctioning. Vehicle caught fire upon impact and not available for inspection. Vehicle given to insurance company and settled. Injury to driver of vehicle in question. Driver of vehicle hit and went to ER by ambulance. There is a report filed of accident.

I bought a 2018 Toyota Camry from auction but when I went for vin number verification by California Highway Patrol, CHP it was discovered that the original tinted windshield does not have space for public view of vin number, which is Toyota original windshield with Toyota logo and stamp. This is factory defect, which I have tried to contact Toyota USA, but it seems Toyota is not responding positively to have the windshield replaced since it does not meet U.S standard. I have case number opened with Toyota case [XXX]. As a result of this I have not been able to register my vehicle. California Highway Patrol, CHP has asked me to go back to Toyota to get this fixed before my vehicle vin could be verified. WENT IN TO REPLACE IT AND THE BACKSIDE IS DECENTIGRATED INTO THE MOTOR. NEEDS CAMSHAFT ASSEMBLY/EXHAUST REPLACED, INVESTIGATE THE MOTOR TO LOOK FOR PIECES SO THEY DON'T DAMAGE THE MOTOR, NO GEAR AT THE END OF THE VACUUM PUMP, IT HAS GONE DOWN NOT THE MOTOR

I WAS SO EXCITED ABOUT THIS CAR, UNTIL I GOT THIS CAR. WE HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS SINCE SIGNING OUT CONTRACT. THE UNDER SHIELD OF THE CAR IS FALLING/DROPPING WHICH IS CONSTANTLY BREAKING OFF AND FALLING OUT BEHIND US WHICH IS POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS TO OTHERS AS WELL. WHEN ATTEMPTING TO START, CAR ACTED AS IF THE BATTERY WAS VERY LOW IT TURNED OVER, DASH WENT BLACK FOR ABOUT 3 SECONDS AND CAR STARTED VERY FORCEFULLY. CAR HAD BEEN PARKED UNDER CARPORT FOR ABOUT 16 HOURS. THE DAY BEFORE CAR WAS IN THE SAME CONDITIONS AND STARTED RIGHT UP NO PROBLEMS.

AFTER A FEW MINUTES IT FINALLY TURNED ON AND THE CAR STARTED TO SHAKE. THE ENGINE ALSO HAD A FUNNY RATTLING NOISE AND A MASTER LIGHT CAME ON MY DASHBOARD. AFTER DRIVING FOR A ABOUT 12 MINUTES AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH THE CAR STALLED AND I ALMOST GOT INTO AN ACCIDENT. I HAVE OWNED THIS VEHICLE FOR LESS THAN ONE YEAR AND ALL MAINTENANCE HAS BEEN DONE ACCORDINGLY TO SCHEDULE. I EVEN HAD TO PAY TOYOTA FOR A FULL DIAGNOSTIC CHECK UP ON JULY 08TH 2020. I HAD BEEN DRIVING MY CAR ON THE TURNPIKE FOR ABOUT 3.5 S WHEN SMOKE STARTED COMING OUT OF THE AREA AGAINST THE WINDSHIELD WHERE THE REAR VIEW MIRROR IS ATTACHED INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. A FIRE THEN SPONTANEOUSLY STARTED. I PULLED OVER AND PUT OUT THE FIRE BY THROWING WATER ONTO THE AREA FROM A BOTTLE OF WATER I HAD IN MY CAR CAUSING MY WINDSHIELD TO CRACK. AS A RESULT OF THE FIRE MY ANTI-COLLISION SYSTEM AND OTHER SYSTEMS(AUTOMATIC HEADLIGHTS) NO LONGER WORK. I CONTACTED TOYOTA TO NOTIFY THEM OF THE ISSUE. THEY SENT AN INSPECTOR TO MEET ME AT A DEALERSHIP AND TOLD ME THAT IS WAS DUE TO MY WINDSHIELD BEING REPLACED 18 MONTHS PRIOR BY SAFELITE AND I DIDN'T USE TOYOTA WINDSHIELD (LETTER ATTACHED). TOYOTA RETURNED MY CAR AND THE AREA STILL HEATED UP AND SMOKED. I TOOK IT UPON MYSELF TO REMOVE THE HOUSING BEHIND THE REAR VIEW MIRROR AND FOUND THAT THE METAL CAMERA WAS OVER HEATING AND CAUSING THE PLASTIC HOUSING TO MELT (PICTURES ATTACHED). I UNPLUGGED THE CAMERA AND THE SAFETY ISSUE IS RESOLVED. HOWEVER, THAT CAMERA CONTROLS THE ANTI-COLLISION SYSTEM AND MY AUTOMATIC HEADLIGHTS.

AFTER DOING ALL BRAINSTORMING THE LAST SOLUTION CAME TO ME WAS MAKE A HOLE BEHIND NUMBER PLATE TO OPEN THE TRUNK LATCH. A GOOD MAN AGREED TO COME TO THE PARK AND OPEN THE TRUNK BY DRILLING THE HOLE. I WAS ABLE TO MAKE MY FAMILY SAFE. AFTER REACHING DALLAS (MY HOME) I SENT AN EMAIL TO TOYOTA NORTH AMERICA CEO JAMES ABOUT THE WHOLE INCIDENT AND HIS OFFICE CALLED ME AFTER THE EMAIL BUT NOT ACCEPTING THIS AS A DEFECT AND DENIED TO HELP ME TO FIX MY HOLEY CAR. THE 6 HRS I SPENT WITH FAMILY TO JUST OPEN THE TRUNK IS A SERIOUS DEFECT IN THE 2018 CAMRY. THIS IS VERY COMMON TO LOSE KEYS WHILE TAKING STUFF OUT OF THE TRUNK. WHEN ONE STARTS THE CAR BY PUSHING THE START BOTTOM, THE CAR WILL START TO SHAKE AND SOON A VERY LOAD CRACKING AND RATTLING NOISE WILL BEGAN COMING FROM THE ENGINE. ENGINE LIGHT WILL COME ON WHILE DRIVING IN THE CITY AND THEN TURNS OFF CAUSING THE DRIVER TO BE AWARE OF SOME ISSUE. ONCE THE CONCERNING NOISE GOES AWAY THE CAR CONTINUES TO SHAKE BUT EVENTUALLY STOPS AFTER A WHILE. THIS COULD MAKE THE CAR TO STALL AND CAUSING A POTENTIAL CRASH. THE VEHICLE LEFT BLIND SIDE DETECTOR DOES NOT RESPOND 100%, IT ONLY WORKS ABOUT 60% OF THE TIME. THIS CAUSES THE DRIVER TO THINK HE/SHE ARE CLEAR TO TURN TO THE LEFT LANE IN THE CITY AND HIGHWAY AND IT CAN CAUSE THE DRIVER TO HIT ANOTHER CAR AND POTENTIALLY CRASHING. THE SCREEN PANEL GLITCHES FROM TIME TO TIME WHILE DRIVING IN THE HIGHWAY CAUSING THE DRIVER TO NOT BE ABLE TO SEE AND LOCATE RADIO STATIONS OR MANIPULATE THE PANEL.

THE CAR STALLED, WHILE I DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR, CAUSING A MILD PANIC, AS I WAS CONFRONTED WITH AN 18 WHEELER ATTEMPTING TO TURN INTO MY LANE. THE CAR EVENTUALLY ACCELERATED, GETTING ME OUT OF THE WAY, IN A HARRIED AND FRUSTRATED HUFF AT THE POOR PERFORMANCE OF THIS NEW CAR. THE TRANSMISSION DOES NOT MIS-PERFORM UPON EVERY SINGLE SHIFT OF THE GEARS, BUT THERE WILL BE MIS-PERFORMANCE OCCURRING ON EVERY SINGLE TRIP TAKEN IN THE CAR.

THIS IS A SW BUG IN THE MAP NAVIGATION SETUP THAT IS DANGEROUS. THIS CAMRY HAS A FREEWAY MAP MODE SETUP WHERE THE SCREEN CAN BE SET FOR 50% MAP + 50% FREEWAY EXITS. THE MODE CAN ALSO BE SETUP FOR 100% MAP IF THAT IS PREFERRED. THIS SETTING CAN ONLY BE SET IN THE CONTEXT OF DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY. THE DEFAULT SETTING IS THE 50-50 MAP MODE. THE REAL PROBLEM IS THAT THE SETTING ALWAY REVERTS BACK TO THE DEFAULT SETTING THROUGH TURNING THE CAR OFF AND ON. THE SETTING DOES NOT GET STORED IN NON-VOLATILE MEMORY. THE DRIVER MUST RESET THE MAP-MODE EVERY TIME, AND THEY MUST DO IT WHILE DRIVING AT FREEWAY SPEEDS. THIS IS DANGERIOUS!

ON DECEMBER 6, 2018, I PURCHASED A 2018 CAMRY WITH 65 MILES. I AM WRITING TO YOU REGARDING MY ACCELERATOR PEDAL PROBLEM. THIS LETTER ALSO DOCUMENTS THE SECOND INCIDENT WITH THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE SECOND INCIDENT OCCURRED WHILE I WAS MAKING A RIGHT TURN IN TRAFFIC AND THE CAR ISSUED A MASTER WARNING LIGHT, A WARNING BUZZER, AND A MESSAGE ON THE MULTI-INFORMATION DISPLAY THAT QUICKLY DISAPPEARED. SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THE ACCELERATOR CONTROL SYSTEM OR PEDAL ITSELF. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION IS PROVIDED TO HELP DIAGNOSE AND FIX THE PROBLEM. ON THE FOURTH INCIDENT, I HAVE A VIDEO THAT CLEARLY SHOWS THERE IS AN ACCELERATOR PROBLEM. IN THREE OF THE FOUR INCIDENTS, I WAS BACKING UP IN "R" AND NOTICED THERE WAS NO ACCELERATOR PEDAL, PLACED CAR IN "D" AND STILL NO ACCELERATOR PEDAL THAN IT WOULD JUST GO. IF THE CAR IS UNABLE TO ACCELERATE EITHER IN A TURN OR IN ANY SITUATION, THAN AN ACCIDENT OR DEATH COULD OCCUR. CURRENTLY CAR IS AT A TOYOTA DEALER. TOYOTA DID NOTHING ON THE FIRST TWO VISITS, AS THERE WERE "NO CODES" AND WOULD DO NOTHING UNLESS A CODE WAS PRESENT. I BOUGHT A 2018 TOYOYA CAMRY SE IN APRIL AND I HAVE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS EVER SINCE. THE ETUNE RADIO SYSTEM DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY WITH MY PHONE. I HAVE TO RECONNECT MY PHONE TO THE CAR WHILE I'M DRIVING TO GET MY MUSIC TO PLAY AFTER A PHONE CALL. THE AIR CONDITIONING DOESN'T COOL PROPERLY, AT TIMES I HAVE TO SET IT ON "LOW" IN ORDER TO GET IT TO COOL. OTHER TIMES, I CAN HAVE IT SET ON 80 AND IT COOLS. WHEN I PARK MY CAR AND GET OUT, I CAN SMELL RADIATOR FLUID. THE ACCELERATION DOESN'T' WORK PROPERLY. SOME TIMES I PRESS THE GAS AND THE CAR TAKES OFF SMOOTH, OTHER TIMES IT DOESN'T. COLLISION DETECTION ENGAGES WHEN NO ONE CLOSE TO FRONT OF VEHICLE AT HIGH SPEED. OUR 2018 CAMRY ENGAGED THE COLLISION DETECTION AT ABOUT 65 MPH ON I-85 IN ATLANTA AND ABOUT WRECKED US. NO ONE WAS EVEN CLOSE TO THE FRONT THE VEHICLE OR STOPPING OR STOPPED AND IT LOCKED THE BRAKES UP SOLID FOR LIKE 5-10 SECONDS. THE VEHICLES BEHIND US ALMOST REAR ENDED US FROM IT ENGAGING WITHOUT WARNING. IT SCARED THE LIVING PISS OUT MY WIFE AND I. WE WONT EVEN DRIVE IT ON THE INTERSTATE ANY MORE OR CLOSELY FOLLOW SOMEONE. I OVERALL LOVE MY NEW CAMRY XSE EXCEPT FOR TWO THINGS: 1-THE FEEDBACK ON THE HANDS FREE PHONE IS SO BAD NO ONE WILL TALK TO ME HANDS FREE EXCEPT MY FAMILY. THERE IS A HORRIBLE ECHO THAT MAKES IT EXTREMELY DIFFICULT FOR THE PERSON CALLING ME TO HEAR ME. THEY STATE ALL THEY CAN HEAR PRIMARILY IS THE ECHO OF THEIR OWN VOICE. WHEN AN ISSUE IS SO BAD THAT THE HANDS FREE SYSTEM-WHICH IS MEANT TO IMPROVE SAFETY WHILE DRIVING-THAT YOU NEVER USE IT, IT SEEMS LIKE A SAFETY ISSUE TO ME. I SEE MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS FROM ALMOST EVERYONE REGARDING THIS SAME ISSUE. 2-ABOUT 1 OUT OF 20 TIMES I GET A CALL, IT COMES THROUGH WITH A VERY STRANGE RINGING SOUND THAT WILL NOT STOP UNTIL I STOP THE CAR & TURN IT OFF THEN ON AGAIN. I HAVE VIDEO OF THIS HAPPENING (I DON'T BELIEVE I CAN ATTACH A VIDEO HERE BUT I DO HAVE IT) AND I ALSO CANNOT ANSWER THE CALL AT ALL-IT WILL RING NONSTOP FOR OVER 30 MINUTES IF I DON'T PULL OVER AND STOP/RESTART MY CAR. WHILE DRIVING MY 2018 TOYOTA CAMRY ON MAY 15, 2018, MY DASH DISPLAYED A MESSAGE OF "PRE-COLLISION SYSTEM MALFUNCTION" AS WELL AS A WARNING LIGHT, A LIGHT DEPICTING TWO VEHICLES COLLIDING AND THE MESSAGE "VISIT YOUR DEALER". I UNDERSTAND TOYOTA HAD A RECALL ON 2015 MODEL TOYOTAS FOR THIS EXACT ISSUE HOWEVER, HAS ANYONE ELSE EXPERIENCED THIS WITH THEIR 2018 TOYOTAS OR HAS A RECALL BEEN RELEASED FOR THIS ISSUE? THIS VEHICLE IS 6 MONTHS OLD, PURCHASING IT IN OCTOBER LAST YEAR, AND I HAVE ALREADY HAD ONE RECALL FOR THE FUEL DELIVERY SYSTEM AND NOW THE PRE-COLLISION SYSTEM HAS APPARENTLY MALFUNCTIONED. MY TOYOTA DEALER REFUSES TO ISSUE ME A LOANER VEHICLE SO I DO NOT HAVE TO CONTINUOUSLY TAKE OFF OF WORK TO BRING THE VEHICLE INTO HAVE IT DIAGNOSED, WHICH THEY HAVE REQUESTED I ALLOW AN HOUR AND A HALF TO CONDUCT. I PURCHASED A NEW VEHICLE UNDER WARRANTY SO I WOULD NOT HAVE THE PROBLEMS A USED CAR COULD CREATE HOWEVER I AM CURRENTLY REGRETTING THE DECISION OF PURCHASING A TOYOTA AS IT WILL NOW HAVE BEEN IN THE SHOP TWICE FOR ISSUES BEYOND MY DOING OR CONTROL BUT CONTINUES TO CREATE AN INCONVENIENCE TO ME FINANCIALLY AS IT REQUIRES ME TO TAKE TIME OFF WORK FOR DIAGNOSTICS AND REPAIRS.

I WAS DRIVING MY CAR ON A SECONDARY ROAD AND WARNING LIGHTS STARTED GOING OFF AT THE SAME TIME(ABS,PRECOLLISION WARNING, ENGINE LIGHT,ETC.) MY HUSBAND DROVE IT TO THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. THE TOYOTA SERVICE REP ADVISES ME THAT THE ENGINE WIRES HAVE BEEN CHEWED BY RODENTS. HE ALSO ADVISES ME THAT THIS IS NOT A TOYOTA PROBLEM SO MY BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY WOULD NOT COVER IT. HE ADVISED MY AUTO INSURANCE WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR IT. THE PROBLEM IS A TOYOTA PROBLEM. THEY HAVE STARTED USING PLANT-BASED MATERIAL TO COVER THE WIRING WHICH ATTRACTS RODENTS. THERE IS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT, BUT NOT FOR MY MODEL OF CAR. ALSO, THIS IS GOING TO GET SOMEONE KILLED, BECAUSE YOU CAN'T HARDLY KEEP THE CAR ON THE ROAD AFTER IT HAPPENS. I DON'T HAVE ANY PAPERWORK YET, BECAUSE MY CAR IS STILL AT THE DEALERSHIP.

THE FENDER IN THE ENGINE BAY IS NOT COMPLETELY SEALED. WATER IS WELLING FROM THE FRONT WHEELS INTO THE ENGINE BAY THROUGH THE OPENING OF THE FENDER. THE TOP COVER OF FRONT SHOCK ABSORBERS IN THE ENGINE BAY IS NOT SEALED EITHER. EVIDENT WATER IS WELLING THROUGH THERE, TOO. I'M NOT DRIVING ON ANY DIRTY ROAD. JUST REALLY COMMON HIGHWAY TO AND BACK FROM WORK, 20 MINUTES' DRIVE. YES IT RAINS, BUT NEVER CAUSE ANY PROBLEM ON THE ROAD. IT'S MAKING THE ENGINE BAY DIRTY. ALSO, IT COULD DAMAGE THE ENGINE, OR SHORTCUT ANY WIRE. IT COULD BE NORMAL TO GET DIRTY, BUT THIS POOR DESIGN IS NO GOOD. THE FENDER SHOULD BE SEALED TO RESIST WATER. THAT'S WHY IT'S CALLED FENDER. DYNAMIC RADAR CRUISE CONTROL & PRE-COLLISION SYSTEM FAILURE DURING RAIN. ON APRIL 7TH, 2018 WHILE DRIVING IN LIGHT RAIN ON I95-S IN SOUTH CAROLINA @ 65-70MPH MY CRUISE CONTROL AND PRE-COLLISION SYSTEMS STOPPED WORKING, 2 LIGHTS CAME ON ON THE LEFT SIDE DRIVING CONSOLE AND AN ERROR MESSAGE READING "CLEAN SENSOR" DYNAMIC CRUISE FAILURE. I PULLED INTO THE NEXT REST AREA AND TURNED OFF CAR, "GOOGLED" WHERE THE SENSOR IS, BEHIND THE TOYOTA EMBLEM ON FROM OF CAR. INSPECTED IT, IT WAS CLEAN ON THE OUTSIDE OTHER THAN BEING WET FROM RAIN. I "POPPED" THE HOOD, I COULD NOT SEE ANY DIRTINESS EITHER. I THEN STARTED DRIVING AGAIN AND AS SOON AS I WAS UP TO HIGHWAY SPEED AND IT WAS STILL LIGHTLY RAINING THE SAME THING HAPPENED. I HAD TO DRIVE OVER 250 MILES WITH NO CRUISE CONTROL NOR PRE-COLLISION SYSTEM. WHEN IT STOPPED RAINING SEVERAL HOURS LATER AND THE NEXT DAY THERE WAS NO RAIN AS WELL IN HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC THE PROBLEM NEVER REOCCURRED.

I LEASED A LOW END CAMRY 6 MONTHS AGO. SINCE THEN I HAVE EXPERIENCED THE FOLLOWING PROBLEM ABOUT 20 TIMES. WHEN SLOWING TO A STOP USUALLY ON A SLIGHT UPGRADE THE ENGINE RPMS INCREASE FROM THE 600 VALUE AT IDLE TO ABOUT 2200. THIS OCCURS IN A SPEED RANGE OF 0 TO 5 MPH. FORTUNATELY I HAVE MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE WHEN IT HAS HAPPENED AND GENERALLY AM NOT CLOSE TO THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME SO I AM ABLE TO HOLD THE CAR WITH THE FOOT BRAKE BUT GENERALLY NEED TO SHUT DOWN THE ENGINE TO ELIMINATE THE HIGH RPM AND WHEN RESTARTING ALL IS BACK TO NORMAL. I HAVE HAD THE CAR AT THE DEALERS 3 TIMES AND ALL IS "WELL" BASED ON THE COMPUTER DIAGNOSTICS. I SUSPECT A SOFTWARE PROBLEM IN THE COMPUTER BUT THAT FALLS ON DEAF EARS.

THE CAR HAS ACCELERATION/SPEED PROBLEMS. THE CAR HAS ONLY 200 MILES, TOOK IT IN TE HIGHWAY AND TAKES TOO LONG TO REACH HIGHWAY SPEED. IT RARELY REACHES AND STAYS AT LOWER SPEED. LIKE OTHERS IT SEEMS THIS CAMRY WILL HAVE A LOT REAR-END ACCIDENTS DUE TO THE LACK OF SPEED PERFORMANCE. I FEEL SCARE TO DRIVE THIS CAR, TOO DIFFICULT TO CHANGE LANES, TOO DIFFICULT TO KEEP UP WITH TRAFFIC. IF CARS ARE APPROACHING AT HIGHWAY SPEED AND YOU ARE CHANGING LINES YOU MORE THAN LIKELY WILL END UP REAR- END. IT TOOK ME TWO AND A HALF HOURS TO COMPLETE A 1 HOUR TRIP DUE TO LACK OF SPEED, CAR NOT RESPONDING AND FEAR OF GETTING REAR-END BY OTHER CARS WHO WERE HURNING BECAUSE CAR WOULDN'T SPEED UP. CAR IS TOO UNSAFE. I DON'T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED TO TOYOTA. WORST CAR EVER.
