These 3 things may be related to each other because they all are connected to the steering wheel. My car can be scheduled for an inspection regarding these safety problems. 1. The Airbag warning light is sometimes on when I drive the car. I'm worried it won't work if I'm in a wreck. 2. The horn doesn't work when I press on the part of the steering wheel that should make it work. It does make a loud sound when I press the panic button on my key fob, but only when the car is turned off. I had to stick my head out of the window and yell at a driver who was getting close to hitting my car in a parking lot. I was parked, and they were backing out of their parking stall. They stopped inches away from my car. 3. The cruise control does not work in the car. I think by using this feature, and maintaining a steady speed, it reduces the chances of accidents. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? See answers #1, 2 and 3 above. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed? #1. No. A dealer told me it would cost me $100 to have them check the airbag light. #2. The horn was checked by an independent service center. #3. No. Has it been inspected? #1. This car has been serviced two different times for recalls for the airbag not working correctly. I wonder if the horn and cruise control wires were damaged, or not put back together correctly, when the recall work was being done, while owned by my sister-in-law. #2. No. #3. No. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? #1. The warning lamp for the airbag started coming on around August 15, 2024. #2. No. It didn't work on February 11, 2023 - when I bought the car. #3. No. It didn't work on February 11, 2023.

May 31, 2023 Crash

The contact's client owned a 2005 Toyota Matrix. The contact stated that while her client was driving at approximately 35 MPH, he crashed into another vehicle that had merged into his lane of traffic. The air bags deployed upon impact. Her client claimed that shrapnel was released from one of the air bags upon deployment; however, the claim had yet to be verified by the contact. Upon investigation, the contact discovered that the vehicle was currently under NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V025000(Air Bags) which she linked to the failure. The contact sought medical treatment at the hospital for a severe burn to an arm (arm unknown) as a result of the air bag deployment. He was also treated for pain to his neck, back and both knees. The whereabouts of the other driver were unknown. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed from the scene to an unknown facility. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had been destroyed as a result of the crash. The failure mileage was unknown.

I took my vehicle for the airbag recall. When the technician gave me my car back I noticed the airbag warning light was still on. The technician said the warning airbag light is something else but he could not say what. Please add additional recalls to fix passenger airbag. But he said “the light was on before the recall” and I would have to pay to find out what the warning is for. I waited 2 hours for the recall work to be finished and when I entered my car the warning light was still on. This vehicle has not been in an accident. This situation I read in the reviews online is happening to this car and many complaints. I feel unsafe and I think all possible recalls should be put in place for this to be taken care of by Toyota. It is dangerous and it is a liability. Please help me get this resolved with AutoNation Toyota in Winter Park. RECEIVED RECALL NOTICE FROM TOYOTA. CALLED LOCAL DEALERSHIP WHERE PURCHASED - THEY TOOK INFO AND STATED THEY WOULD GET PARTS AND CALL TO SCHEDULE. THEY NEVER CALLED BACK. WE CALLED TOYOTA CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE CENTER TO INFORM WE WERE NOT GETTING OUR RECALL SERVICE. THEY STATED THEY WOULD CONTACT THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THEM CALL WITHIN ONE BUSINESS DAY TO INITIATE SERVICE. NO ONE CALLED. I CALLED TOYOTA AGAIN, THEY PUT ME ON HOLD AND AFTER 12 MINUTES ON HOLD I GAVE UP. TOYOTA IS NOT FOLLOWING THROUGH ON THIS RECALL SERVICE WHICH IS A DEADLY CONDITION.

BUT, WHEN I HAVE GONE AS PER THE APPOINTMENTS, THE DEALER TOLD ME THE PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE. IN GENERAL, THE COMPANY UNABLE TO DO THE RECALL REMEDY.

TAKATA RECALL ELMORE TOYOTA IN WESTMINSTER, CA. FLAT OUT LIED TO ME ABOUT MY AIRBAG REPLACEMENT. ELMORE TOYOTA IS USING DECEITFUL TACTICS, AND POSSIBLY, UNLAWFUL PRACTICES. I TOOK MY CAR TO ELMORE ON 08/19/2015 FOR THE TAKATA AIRBAG RECALL. AT THAT TIME, I TOLD THE SERVICE GUY TO CHECK THE MOLDING AROUND MY WINDOWS, IT'S STARTING TO COME OUT, AND NEEDS TO BE TUCKED BACK IN A FEW SPOTS. AND I ASKED HIM TO GIVE ME AN OIL CHANGE WHILE IT WAS THERE. THEY DIDN'T HAVE REPLACEMENT PARTS ON HAND, SO THEY GAVE ME A RENTAL CAR, AND TOLD ME, WHEN THE REPLACEMENT PARTS ARRIVE, THEY'LL LET ME KNOW. I CALL A COUPLE TIMES A WEEK TO CHECK ON MY CAR, NOT A SINGLE RETURNED CALL FROM ELMORE. THREE FULL MONTHS GO BY, AND I GET A VOICE MESSAGE FROM ELMORE TELLING ME THAT MY CAR WAS READY, HE SAID TO COME PICK IT UP, AND THAT THEY WON'T PAY ANYMORE DAYS ON THE RENTAL. IT'S MONDAY 11/23/15, I WASH, WAX, AND GAS UP THE RENTAL, AND TAKE IT TO ELMORE. NOBODY CAN FIND MY CAR. NOBODY CAN FIND THE GUY WHO CALLED ME ABOUT IT BEING READY FOR PICK UP. IT WASN'T IN THE COMPUTER. I WAIT, AND WAIT. 45 MINUTES LATER, A SERVICE GUY PULLS UP IN MY CAR, AND IT'S COVERED WITH BIRD CRAP, AND A (3) MONTH LAYER OF DIRT. MY CAR IS WASHED, AND WAXED, ONCE A WEEK. IT WAS IMMACULATE WHEN I TOOK IT TO ELMORE. OBVIOUSLY, MY CAR SAT OUTSIDE ON THEIR LOT FOR (3) MONTHS. I LOOK AND SEE THAT NOTHING WAS DONE WITH THE MOLDING, SO I ASK IF THE OIL WAS CHANGED, HE DIDN'T KNOW. HE SAID, "ALL I KNOW IS, THEY FIXED THE AIRBAG". I ASKED HIM FOR THE PAPERWORK ON MY CAR, THAT SHOWS WHAT WORK WAS REQUESTED, AND WHAT WORK WAS DONE. THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T FIND ANY AFTER I WAITED A OTHER 30 MIN. I WENT HOME AND IMMEDIATELY CALLED THE GUY AT ELMORE AND LEFT SEVERAL MESSAGES, AND EMAILS, EXPLAINING THAT THEY DIDN'T DO THE MOLDING, OR OIL, MY CAR WAS FILTHY, AND NO PAPERWORK. AIRBAG RECALL AND THE "AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT REMAINS ILLUMINATED" STARTED. MY VEHICLE WAS NOT RECALLED IN THE 2003 ' 2008 TOYOTA COROLLA AIRBAG CLOCK SPRING REPLACEMENT RECALL. IT WAS RECALLED FOR THE DRIVERS SIDE AIRBAG REPLACEMENT AND DURING THAT TIME THE PALO ALTO TOYOTA MECHANIC TRIED TO FIX THE LIGHT BUT COULD NOT FIND THE APPROPRIATE SOLUTION. IN MAY 2016 MY DAUGHTER RECEIVED A LETTER ALSO FOR THE TAKATA RECALL ON HER YARIS WITH A LETTER SAYING NOT TO LET ANYONE RIDE IN HER FRONT SEAT. SERIOUSLY? I WAS NOT TOLD THIS. I COULD HAVE KILLED SOMEONE OR SERIOUSLY INJURED THEM. (MY DAUGHTER NEEDS A RENTAL BTW BECAUSE I DOINT WANT HER DRIVING HER CAR TILL IT IS SAFE) WHEN MY DAD FOUND OUT HE WENT TO TOYOTA AND GUESS WHAT? TAKATA RECALL. IN REGARDS TO MY RECALL AIRBAG REPAIR, WHY IS IT THAT MY 2004 TOYOTA COROLLA ALREADY HAD THE REPAIR PERFORMED? SEEMS I GET A DIFFERENT ANSWER EVERYTIME I ASK THAT QUESTION. NOW MY 2005 COROLLA MATRIX WHICH IS CURRENTLY 11 YEARS OLD IS FINALLY HAVING THIS REPAIR PERFORMED. AND TOYOTA'S RECOMMENDATION IS THAT I DO NOT OPERATE THE VEHICLE WITH AN OCCUPANT IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. WHAT ABOUT THE PREVIOUS 11 YEARS THAT RODE IN THAT SEAT WITH THE SAME DEFECT? IF TOYOTA TRULY CARED ABOUT MY SAFETY, THEY SHOULD HAVE MADE THAT SUGGESTION WHEN THEY FIRST KNEW OF IT. BUT THEY PROBABLY WOULDN'T HAVE SOLD VERY MANY 4 PASSENGER COROLLAS SET-UP WITH 3 PEOPLE IN THE BACK SEAT AND ONLY THE DRIVER SITTING IN FRONT. HECK, TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF THEIR CUSTOMERS THEY SHOULD HAVE REMOVED THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT OR REMOVED THE BACK OF THAT SEAT ALONG WITH THE SEAT-BELT TO GUARANTEE NOBODY RIDES IN THAT SEAT. THAT PUTS A STRAIN ON OUR FAMILY...WE CAN'T DRIVE THE CAR WITH 5 PEOPLE AND WE THINK TOYOTA SHOULD DO SOMETHING TO ALLOW US TO USE OUR CAR IN A NORMAL WAY. I HAVE ASKED MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER WHEN THIS WILL BE REPAIRED AND HAVE ONLY BEEN TOLD THAT I WILL GET ANOTHER NOTICE WHEN PARTS ARE AVAILABLE. IT IS EXTREMELY INCONVENIENT TO HAVE PASSENGERS RIDE IN THE BACK SEAT ALL THE TIME SINCE TOYOTA HAS ADVISED AGAINST ALLOWING PASSENGERS IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. ACCORDING TO THE STATEMENT, IT HAS TO DO WITH THE AIR BAG INFLATORS AND, DEPENDING ON CIRCUMSTANCE, COULD RUPTURE AND CAUSE METAL FRAGMENTS TO PASS THROUGH THE AIR BAG CUSHIONED MATERIAL RESULTING IN INJURY OR DEATH. WE WERE TOLD THAT UNTIL A REMEDY BECAUSE AVAILABLE IN OUR LOCATION TO HAVE NO ONE RIDE IN THE PASSENGER FRONT SEAT. THAT WAS THREE MONTHS AGO. I JUST LOOKED UP THE STATUS AND THERE IS STILL NO REMEDY AVAILABLE IN OUR AREA. THIS IS NOT A MINOR ISSUE. IT'S CAUSED UNDUE STRESS AND INCONVENIENCE THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE SUMMER. WE HAVE A BABY ON THE WAY AND ARE CONCERNED THAT THERE IS STILL NO REMEDY IN PLACE, AND WE FEEL A SOLUTION HAS NOT BEEN PROVIDED IN A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME. WE PLAN ON CALLING TOYOTA DURING NORMAL BUSINESS HOURS TO SEE IF THERE IS ANY WAY WE CAN FIX THE ISSUE OURSELVES AND THEN SUBMIT FOR A REIMBURSEMENT. SIMPLY TELLING CUSTOMERS TO HAVE NO ONE RIDE IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT AND NOT PROVIDE ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION--SUCH AS WHEN WE CAN EXPECT PARTS TO BECOME AVAILABLE--IS POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. PLUS, IF WE HAVE TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE OURSELVES, IT WILL CAUSE UNNECESSARY STRAIN ON OUR ALREADY TIGHT BUDGET.

TOYOTA WILL NOT LET DEALERSHIPS DISABLE THESE DEFECTIVE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAGS. HONDA RECENTLY WENT THROUGH THE SAME THING AND THEY DID DISABLE THE AIRBAGS UNTIL THE PARTS WERE AVAILABLE TO FIX THEM. I GOT A COMPLETE RUN AROUND FROM TOYOTA'S CUSTOMER SERVICE WHEN I CALLED THEM AND WAS TOLD "IT HAD TO GO THROUGH THE STATE." RIDICULOUS. IF IT HAS TO BE COORDINATED THROUGH THE STATE THEN TOYOTA SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THAT. WHY SHOULD I BE DRIVING AROUND IN A CAR THAT CAN HAVE SHRAPNEL FLYING AROUND IN IT? "DON'T LET ANYBODY SIT RIGHT IN FRONT OF IT" IS NOT AN ACCEPTABLE SOLUTION. NOT TO MENTION THEY HAVE NO IDEA HOW LONG IT WILL BE TIL THE PARTS ARE AVAILABLE - AND THIS RECALL WENT OUT IN JUNE BUT I AM ONLY JUST NOW BEING NOTIFIED. SO 2 MOS. PASSENGERS HAVE BEEN SITTING ON THE DEADLY SIDE. THEY SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO GET AWAY WITH THIS AS A BUSINESS PRACTICE - TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE TO PUT PEOPLE AT RISK THIS WAY. PLEASE DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS.

THE AIR BAG LIGHT IS ON AND WILL NOT GO OFF. THE MEDIA SAYS THAT MY MODEL YEAR IS IN THE TAKATA RECALL AND MY MODEL IS IN THE TOYOTA RECALL BUT ONLY IN THE "HIGH HUMIDITY REGION". I CONTACTED A DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T DO ANYTHING UNTIL TOYOTA CAUGHT UP ENTERING IN THE VIN NUMBERS FOR THE MODEL YEARS THAT WERE ADDED TO THE RECALL. THIS IS NOT SAFE, THIS IS A MALFUNCTIONING PART AND THIS NEEDS TO BE REMEDIED.

THERE IS A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN. *TR HAVING DONE JUST A QUICK SEARCH OF THE INTERNET, IT APPEARS THAT THIS PARTICULAR PROBLEM IS VERY COMMON, YET THERE IS NO RECALL. IT SEEMS MOST OF THE ISSUES CAUSING THIS PROBLEM ARE RELATED TO EITHER THE SPIRAL AIRBAG CABLE OR THE VEHICLE CLOCK. PLEASE CONSIDER THE URGENCY OF THIS, AS I HAVE READ OF FOLKS HAVING HIGH SPEED HEAD ON COLLISIONS WHILE THE LIGHT WAS ON, AND THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY.

SOME HAVE TAKEN THE CAR IN FOR SERVICES INCLUDING COMPLETE REPLACEMENT OF THE AIRBAG SYSTEM AND CLOCK (WHICH HAPPENS TO HAVE FAULTY CIRCUIT THAT CAN RESULT IN THE WARNING LIGHT COMING ON AND OFF INTERMITTENTLY.) SOME HAVE PAID OVER $1K IN SERVICE FEES. I CONTACTED TOYOTA ABOUT IT. THEY ARE NOT LOOKING TO OWN UP TO THIS QUALITY DEFECT. IT'S NOT A WEAR AND TEAR (VEHICLE AGE) ISSUE. THE CULPRIT APPEARS TO BE A COMPONENT THAT CRACKS OFF THE PCB ON THE CLOCK. SOMEONE HAS REPORTED HAVING RE-SOLDERED THIS COMPONENT TO ELIMINATE THE INTERMITTENT AIRBAG LIGHT ISSUE. OUR DRIVER SIDE SRS AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT HAS BEEN INTERMITTENTLY ON FOR OVER A YEAR. SOMETIMES IT DOESN'T GO OUT WHEN THE CAR IS STARTED AND STAYS ON WHILE DRIVING; OTHER TIMES IT GOES OUT LIKE NORMAL A FEW SECONDS AFTER THE CAR IS STARTED, BUT SPONTANEOUSLY COMES ON AND STAYS ON LATER WHILE DRIVING. ONCE IT'S ON, I HAVE TO PULL OVER AND TURN THE IGNITION OFF, WAIT A FEW SECONDS, AND THEN RESTART THE CAR TO GET IT TO TURN OFF. THIS IS NOT ALWAYS SUCCESSFUL. THE TOYOTA DEALER WAS NO HELP AT ALL - COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG, AND SAID THAT I'D NEED TO BRING THE CAR BACK WHEN THE LIGHT WAS ACTUALLY ON.
