TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 08V162000 (VISIBILITY), 15V286000 (AIR BAGS), AND 15V043000 (AIR BAGS). THE PARTS NEEDED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE WERE UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
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

KARIN KNAN, UNDER TOYOTA CASE # 1011110634, WHO INSTRUCTED HE WOULD BE CONTACT YOU WITH MY ISSUE; THE PARTS WERE UNDER WARRANTY FOR 3 YEARS/36K. I JUST RECEIVED A CALL FROM MY SERVICE MANAGER, WHO STATED THAT THE REPAIR AND INVESTIGATION INVOLVED REMOVING THE DOOR PANEL AND VIEWING THE WINDOW REGULATOR AND BOLTS. REQUEST YOUR CONSIDERATION OF MY VEHICLE ISSUE, SIMILAR TO THE RECALL OF DEFECT INVESTIGATION EA08-004.

BEFORE TAKING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER THE CONTACT STATED BOTH WINDOW HAD MALFUNCTIONED. THE DEALER PERFORMED THE RECALL REPAIR TO THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE WINDOW BUT NOT THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW DUE TO EXTENSIVE DAMAGE THAT CAN NOT BE REPAIRED UNDER THE RECALL. THAT CONTACT STATED THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW WILL NOT STAY CLOSED. THE CONTACT STATED THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW WAS CLOSED UPON ARRIVING TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER STATED TO THE CONTACT THE REGULATOR NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT STATED THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIRS SINCE THIS IS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT. THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THAT THE WINDOW WAS UNBALANCE AND THE PLASTIC STRIPPING WAS BEGINNING TO FRACTURE FROM THE WINDOW. THE CONTACT LATER RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 08V162000 (VISIBILITY: GLASS, SIDE/REAR) BUT WAS ADVISED BY THE DEALER THAT THE FAILURE WAS NOT IDENTICAL TO THE FAILURE LISTED IN THE RECALL. THE DEALER REFUSED REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
FOR THE RECALL SSC # 80A 2003-2004 FRONT DOOR GLASS BOLTS SAFETY RECALL. BECAUSE OF THE GLASS BOLTS DEFECT, THE WINDOW IS OFF TRACK AND LEAVE A GAP AT THE UPPER PORTION. IT MAKES THE RUBBER AROUND A WINDOW LOOSE AND SHRINK BECAUSE A WINDOW DOES NOT LINE UP IN THE RIGHT POSITION. THE WINDOW MOVES TO THE OUTER SIDE OF RUBBER WHICH MAKES NOISE AND SHATTER ALL THE TIME. IT ALSO AFFECT THE WEATHER STRIPPING GOES IN THE BAD SHAPE BECAUSE THE WINDOW IS NOT AT A RIGHT POSITION BETWEEN UPPER PORTION OF WINDOWS. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE WINDOW WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. APPROXIMATELY ONE YEAR LATER THE FAILURE RECURRED AND THE CONTACT HAD THE WINDOW REPLACED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. APPROXIMATELY FOUR YEARS LATER THE FAILURE RECURRED BUT THE WINDOW WAS STUCK IN THE OPEN POSITION INSIDE OF THE DOOR PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE REGULATOR FAILED. THE DEALER COULD NOT REPAIR THE VEHICLE UNDER THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 08V162000, VISIBILITY:GLASS, SIDE/REAR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 82,000.

I CONTACTED TOYOTA DIRECTLY AND THE TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD OR WOULD TO ABOUT IT BECAUSE MY CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. I HAD THE GLASS REPLACED BY A AUTO GLASS CO., BUT IT WAS NOT OPERATING RIGHT. WENT TO TOY. DEALERSHIP THEY SAID REGULATOR WAS BENT BY NOT USING TOY.GLASS. I EXPLAINED THAT REGULATOR FELT LIKE IT WAS COMING THROUGH THE DOOR WHEN WINDOW BROKE. GOT RECALL NOTICE AND BOLTS WERE PUT IN BUT WINDOW ON DRIVER SIDE STILL DOES NOT LINE UP RIGHT. IT IS STARTING TO WARE AWAY MY WEATHER STRIPPING AND ALOT OF WIND NOISE COMES THROUGH. TOYOTA STILL DOES NOT WANT TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. *TR

JUNE 24 I TOOK MY 2004 TOYOTA COROLLA -- VIN [XXX] --- IN FOR THE RECALL SSC # 80A 03-04 FRONT DOOR GLASS BOLTS SAFETY RECALL. THE WINDOW APPEARED TO BE IN WORKING ORDER, WHEN I PICKED IT UP. THE WINDOW CAME TO A TIGHT SEAL AT THE UPPER PART OF THE WINDOW. JUNE 25, THE WINDOW IS OFF TRACK AGAIN LEAVING A GAP AT THE UPPER PORTION WHEN THE WINDOW ROLLS UP! TOYOTA SAID THEY WILL NOT REPLACE THE WEATHER STRIPPING. THE WINDOW BECAUSE IT WENT OFF TRACK BECAUSE OF A DEFECT AT THE FACTORY, MADE THE RUBBER AROUND THE WINDOW ALL LOOSE AND MAYBE AFFECTING THE WINDOW NOW. I CAN SEE HOW THE STRIPPING HAS FORMED IN A WAY THAT IT MIGHT PUSH THE WINDOW AWAY FROM THE INNER TRACK -- WHEN WINDOW GOES UP, THE STRIPPING IS LOOSE AND THE WINDOW MOVES AS GOING UP. I PERSONALLY THINK TOYOTA IS GETTING THE EASY WAY OUT OF THIS. ON A SIDE NOTE.. I ALREADY HAD TO REPLACE THE WINDOW CAUSE IT SHATTERED ON ME, THANK GOD I HAD TINT ON THE WINDOW. I WAS DRIVING A TOYOTA 2004 COROLLA ON THE HIGHWAY @ 60 MPH. ALL THE CAR WINDOWS WERE OPEN. THERE WERE NO OTHER CARS/TRUCKS NEAR THE CAR. I PUSHED THE BUTTON TO CLOSE THE WINDOWS. THE DRIVER SIDE WINDOW WENT UP TO APPROX. 6" FROM THE TOP OF THE WINDOW AND STOPPED. I PUSHED THE BUTTON TO TURN IT DOWN. THE WINDOW RETURNED DOWN. I AGAIN PUSHED THE BUTTON TO CLOSE THE WINDOW. AS THE WINDOW WAS RAISED TO APPRROX 6" FROM THE TOP, THE GLASS EXPLODED. I DROVE DIRECTLY TO THE TOYOTA DEALER WHO SAID SOMETIMES THIS HAPPENS AND WAS NOT ABLE TO GIVE A REASON FOR THE OCCURRENCE. THE WINDOW WAS REPLACED. I AM AFRAID TO TOUCH THE WINDOW AS WHEN THE GLASS EXPLODED, MY HAND WAS CUT, SOME OF THE GLASS WAS IN MY LAP. I WAS WEARING SUNGLASSES WHICH I THINK PROVIDED SOME PROTECTION. WHEN I SAW THE BACK OF THE CAR THERE WAS GLASS ON THE FLOOR AND BACK SEAT. FORTUNATELY, I DIDN'T PANIC WHEN THE GLASS EXPLODED. I AM FRIGHTENED TO THINK OF THE SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES IF I DID. DT: WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE AT 50 MPH ON SMOOTH ROAD THERE WAS A HISSING COMING FROM THE SUN ROOF. THE GLASS FROM THE SUN ROOF FLEW OFF, AND THE CONSUMER SAW THE GLASS BEHIND THE CAR IN THE REARVIEW MIRROR.T HE SUN ROOF WAS CLOSED AT THE TIME WHEN IT FLEW OFF. THE GLASS CAME OFF IN ONE PIECE AND THEN BROKE ON THE GROUND. THEN, THE OWNER PULLED OVER AND LOOKED AT THE SUN ROOF. HE TOOK THE CAR HOME, THEN TO THE CAR TO DEALER . THE CONSUMER WAS UNSURE WHAT CAUSED IT, AND THE DEALERSHIP HASN'T TOLD THE CONSUMER THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE DEALERSHIP WILL REPLACE THE SUN ROOF. THE CONSUMER HAS NOT HAD OTHER PROBLEMS WITH CAR BUT WAS UPSET WITH DEALERSHIP FOR CHARGING FOR A RENTAL CAR.*AK
WINDSHIELD IS VERY SUSCEPTABLE TO CRACKS. ORIGINAL WINDSHIELD WAS HIT WITH A VERY SMALL PEBBLE WHILE DRIVING AT RELATIVELY LOW SPEEDS (40-45MPH). IMMEDIATELY A CRACK TRAVELED ACROSS THE ENTIRE LENGTH OF THE WINDSHIELD. ONE WEEK LATER, THE SAME INSTANCE OCCURRED AND A SMALL PEBBLE CREATED A SPIDER WEB-LIKE CRACK.

SUN VISOR ON DRIVER SIDE INTERFERES WITH REAR VIEW MIRROR. WHEN VISOR IS PULLED DOWN, IT HITS THE REAR VIEW MIRROR, CAUSING THE MIRROR TO MOVE UP OR DOWN. ON SUNNY DAYS WHEN CONSTANTLY MOVING VISOR, THE REAR VIEW MIRROR IS A CONTINUAL PROBLEM NEEDING READJUSTMENT AND CAUSING DRIVER TO TAKE EYES OFF THE ROAD.*AK
